The document summarizes the sliding filament theory of muscle contraction in 3 chapters: 1) Acetylcholine is released from a motor neuron, causing calcium ions to be released which allow actin and myosin filaments to bind. 2) Myosin uses ATP to pull actin inward, shortening the muscle fiber. 3) When calcium levels drop, actin and myosin detach, relaxing the muscle through the action of tropomyosin.
