Abstract:
We love our children’s holding pencils, pens and making their first drawings. They start making their first drawing lines, circles, zigzags, before they write, so they feel happy about their first drawing and how they are amazed to express themselves before event joining schools.
Young learners once at school quickly learn that success at school is measured by how well you can read and write, not by how good your drawings are.
Writing is combination of process and product , the process refers to gathering ideas and thoughts and working on them to be readable for the reads .
However, learners who draw their first graphics before they tackle writing tasks produce better writing. It is likely this is because the act of drawing concentrates the mind on the topic at hand, and provides an avenue for rehearsal before writing.
Many questions are raised to reach such goal:
Why is writing important for young learners ?
What are the initiation steps to teach spelling and writing ?
How to make very young learners write fluently ?
All these questions I will be very pleased to tackle them with you in my conference meeting and see how to help young learners teachers benefit from this presentation to help their learners once in class .
Methodology :
Workshop objective: By the end of this presentation and workshop, the audience will be able to importance of writing for your learners and how to proceed in that.
Workshop format : The workshop is a variety of tasks , where the audience will be invited to work in pair , groups in a room with round tables for interaction and theatre or classroom style while being invited to power point presentation
Diversity :
Well 1h is not enough for such important topic , but I will try to manage that by allocating not more than the required timing for each task in order to cover all the topic
I will try to proceed as follows :
Set Ground Rules
Before I start the workshop, I have to establish ground rules to make the environment in which everyone feels comfortable ( phones in silent mode, respect each others while interacting, help each others while working in round table made class……
Use Ice Breakers to Build Bridges
For example, when the speakers introduces himself he may invite , everyone to share their feeling taking part in ELT conference(s).
How to Wrap Up
By the end of the workshop, the attendees are invited to share what they have learned. I have to make them complete an evaluation paper, so I can gauge what worked best about the workshop and what improvements need to be made
Thank you

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

1. Skill of Using the
Blackboard
Dr. Vikramjit Singh
SXCE,Patna
श्यामपट्ट लेखन कौशल
2. Blackboard; word comes from its black color. It has flat surface feature and
can be a board made of wood or fiber, however the term today has started
changing and is called the chalkboard so long as chalks are being used..
According to Geoffrey-
“A blackboard is defined as a flat surface feature, it can be a board made
of wood, fiber or sometime made plastered on the wall of the class. The board
is painted black to reflect the white chalks used to write on it”
The blackboard was invented by James Pillans(1778-1864); headmaster of
Royal High school Edinburgh Scotland. There are also the evidence of first
use of chalkboard in Indian schools in the 11th century.
3. Benefits of Use of Blackboard
I. A good blackboard work brings about clarity in the
understanding of the concepts being taught through clear
visual presentation.
II. When the ideas are presented clearly without any
ambiguity or irrelevance on the blackboard, it reinforces
the matter which is being verbally conveyed by the
teacher.
III. If the blackboard is used throughout for developing a
lesson, a good work on it gives a holistic picture of the
lesson.
IV. A skilfully used blackboard work adds variety to the
lesson and draws attention of the pupils.
4. Components of the skill of using the Blackboard:
I. Legibility of handwriting
(ललखावट कक स्पष्टता)
II. Neatness in the blackboard work, and
(ललखावट में सफ़ाई/ पररशुद्धता )
III. Appropriateness of written work on the
blackboard
(श्यामपट्ट पर ललखी लवषयवस्तु की उपयुक्तता)
5. I. Legibility of Handwriting
a) Every letter should be distinct.
b) There should be adequate spacing between two
letters.
c) The slantness of each letter should be closest to
vertical.
d) The size of the letters should be large enough to
be read from far end of the room.
6. I. Legibility of Handwriting
e) The size of the capital letters should be bigger
than the small letters but not exaggerated to
form as an obstacle to reading.
f) All capital letters should be of same size and all
small letters should be of same size.
g) The thickness of the lines should be of same
width.
7. II. Neatness in the Blackboard work
a) Straightness of the lines- The written work has to be
horizontal parallel to the base of the blackboard.
b) There should be adequate spacing between the lines.
c) There should be no overwriting that makes blackboard
work untidy.
d) Relevant matter which is under focus of classroom
discussion should be retained on the black board.
8. III. Appropriateness of the work on the blackboard
a) Continuity in the points.
b) Brevity and Simplicity
c) Drawing attention and focusing. (Underline only
the main points and use colored chalks in drawing
and in writing to make the things distinctive. Avoid
unnecessary details.)
9. Points to be taken care of while using Blackboard.
i. Check the condition of the BB for its usability, like smoothness.
ii.Check the lighting(Not too bright, nor too dim)
iii.Check whether the BB is clean or not both before and after use.
iv.Keep required amount of white and coloured chalk before the class
begins.
v.Stand on one side of the BB and don’t come in between the students
and the BB written part.
vi.Use pointer if needed to explain the points especially the diagrams.
vii.Avoid squeaking noise of the chalk while writing on BB.
10. Points to be taken care of while using Blackboard.
viii.Press the chalk hard enough so as your writing is bright and visible
but not so hard that it strains your fingers.
ix. Clean the BB using duster and avoid too much of dust. It is suggested
to move your hands downwards and upwards to clean the matter on
the BB.
x. Avoid committing mistakes while writing on the BB.
xi. Keep on checking the students’ attention while you write on BB.
Stand at 45◦ while writing and keep on speaking the matter to keep
check on the students as well as to assist them in writing.
xii. Use it for summarization of the chapter too, and while summarising
use the points with brevity and simplicity.
