Improving food safety and quality standards has become an absolute precondition for African agriculture to be competitive in the global food market. And yet, aflatoxin contamination continues to be amongst the critical food-safety threats facing African countries, with enormous economic and health impacts. Today, there are proven
solutions that can contribute to control aflatoxin contamination. However, the organisations and groups behind these solutions face challenges in successfully scaling up their innovations for real impact and lasting sustainability.
Challenges include lack of enforcement of appropriate policies and regulations – a major impediment for the uptake of these tested-and-proven innovations.
OBJECTIVES
• Understand the policy challenges affecting the scaling up of the Aflasafe technology
• Highlight the opportunities to improve existing policies
• Highlight the role of governments in creating an enabling environment
• Share experiences and best practice in engaging national governments to improve food-safety policies
and regulations.

IT governance helps customers and providers talk about value, costs, and risks–three key components in the definition of an IT service.
IT service management can support IT governance by making IT more transparent, by adding control points for governance, and by better connecting what IT does to what the institution most needs. Conversely, IT governance can support IT service management by advocating for IT services and by providing a high-level decision-making framework, firm commitments, policies, and architectural standards.
We’ll briefly review what IT governance is, and then talk about the role of specific IT service management processes in supporting IT governance–processes such as IT service portfolio management, IT financial management, IT supplier management, IT change management, and IT continual service improvement. We’ll also briefly introduce how COBIT 5 can help ITIL practitioners connect service management capabilities to IT governance.
Green-ict is proud to take the opportunity of the next "Get Together" event to share its vision on how governance approach may complement technical approach in helping ITers to positively impact the environment.
Tanguy has described to the audience why there would be a need for croporate environmental governance of IT. A lot a questions and thoughts have been exchanged during this 1h30 workshop. Although the workshop was didn't intend to bring final answer on "to go green or not to go green", the bunch of IT decision makers present that night went back to work with a better awareness of the two facets of Green-IT and where it may head to. Ahead of the main benefits they may get from such initiatives, attendees also understood the numerous side-effects sustainable projects may have in a IT department ... and beyond ...
IT Governance can seem like a daunting challenge especially in today's complex environment with many applications migrating to the cloud. But it doesn’t have to be!
Organizations are increasingly turning to Cloud-based options in order to deliver services to the business. While you may have outsourced the delivery of these services to the cloud, the IT organization still is responsible for overall service delivery. So how do you get your arms around something so "nebulous" as the Cloud?
Initiating IT Governance Strategy to Identify Business NeedsPECB
Implementation of IT Governance, or indeed any IT best practice, should be consistent with organization’s management style and the way organization deals with risk management and delivery of IT value. The biggest risk and concern to top management today is failing to align IT to real business needs, therefore implementing IT Governance based on best practices is needed.
Main points that have been covered are:
• Introducing IT Governance
• Business needs for Governance of IT
• Identifying the business performance and conformance needs
Presenter:
Rohit Banerjee has 14+ years overall, with 10+ years in IT hands-on progressive experience across programme, project & team management leading full SDLC life cycle for complex, cross-functional, multi-site initiatives. He is ISO/IEC 38500 Lead IT Governance Manager.

Inclusive and Efficient Value Chains: Innovations, Scaling, and Way ForwardIFPRI-PIM
In the CGIAR Research Program on Policies, Institutions, and Markets (PIM), market and related aspects have been mostly addressed by PIM Flagship 3: Inclusive and Efficient Value Chains. The team has been focusing on the evolving international, regional, and local contexts for agricultural markets, and investigating how value chains (VC) can be strengthened to generate more benefits for smallholders and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), with differentiated opportunities for women, men, and youth. In this webinar on 22 November 2021, the team presented key findings from the Flagship’s work in 2017-2021 in three areas: 1) value chain innovations, 2) use of value chains for scaling CGIAR solutions, and 3) interactions between research and practice for value chain development.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

4. STEP 1: Case Studies
• Building up methodology (WP1-WP4)
– The GI system is “the set of actors who are effectively engaged
in creating value and improving the strategic marketing position
of the GI product by spontaneous individual or organized
collective action,
and those who are engaged in the activation and reproduction
of those local resources (natural resources, knowledge, social
capital) which make the GI product specific”
– Several dimensions of GI systems: the market structure, the supply
chain organisation, the stakeholders and policies supports, the
system management and governance, the technology and product
qualification procedure…

9. STEP2: Forecast Methodology : GI future
• To contrast different aspects and trends according tothe
new international trade regime, we consider three
scenarios.
• These scenarios concern the position of origin (GI) as a
marketing tool in a complex global market universe in
which private and public standards play an important role
in the dynamics of markets:
– CONVERGENCE on GI visions and “origin” as integrator for
different quality attributes (organic, fair trade…)
– DIVERGENCE on GI visions and “origin” weakening as market
sign
– PLURALITY of GI visions and of quality schemes and forums
10. STEP3: Comparative Analysis Methodology
• Types of geopolitical contexts
– Diversity of the protection schemes and support
policies
• Types of GI systems/markets
– Diversity of economic trajectories of the GI systems
(success/failure)
• Variability of the impacts according to
– the scenarios
– the contexts
– the GI systems
