This paper proposes maximum boost control for 7-level z-source cascaded h-bridge inverter and their affiliation between voltage boost gain and modulation index. Z-source network avoids the usage of external dc-dc boost converter and improves output voltage with minimised harmonic content. Z-source network utilises distinctive LC impedance combination with 7-level cascaded inverter and it conquers the conventional voltage source inverter. The maximum boost controller furnishes voltage boost and maintain constant voltage stress across power switches, which provides better output voltage with variation of duty cycles. Single phase 7-level z-source cascaded inverter simulated using matlab/simulink.
Power Quality Improvement Using Cascaded H-Bridge Multilevel Inverter Based D...IJERA Editor
Cascaded multilevel configuration of the inverter has the advantage of its simplicity and modularity over the
configurations of the diode-clamped and flying capacitor multilevel inverters. This paper presents a threephase,
five-level and seven level cascaded multilevel voltage source inverter based active filter for power line
conditioning to improve power quality in the distribution network. The DSTATCOM helps to improve the
power factor and eliminate the Total Harmonics Distortion (THD) drawn from a Non-Liner Diode Rectifier
Load (NLDRL). The compensation process is based on concept of p-q theory. A CHB Inverter is considered for
shunt compensation of a 11 kV distribution system. Finally a level shifted PWM (LSPWM) and phase shifted
PWM (PSPWM) techniques are adopted to investigate the performance of CHB Inverter. The results are
obtained through Matlab/Simulink software package.

This paper presents an analysis of virtual-flux direct power control (VFDPC) technique for the three-phase pulse width modulation (PWM) ac-dc converter. The proposed VFDPC is developed by assuming the grid voltage and converter line filters quantities are related to a virtual three-phase ac motor. The controller works with less number of sensors by eliminating the voltage sensors used for measuring the three-phase grid voltage. The grid virtual flux which is proportional to the grid voltage will be estimated from the information of converter switching states, line current, and dc-link output voltage. Several analyses are performed in order to study the steady state and dynamic performance of the converter, particularly during the load and DC voltage output reference variations. The proportional integral (PI) controller at the outer voltage control loop of VFDPC is tuned properly and the entire PWM ac-dc converter system is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink to ensure the dc output voltage follow the desired output voltage under steady state and dynamic conditions. Ac-dc converter utilizing the proposed VFDPC is able to generate three-phase input current waveforms that are almost sinusoidal with low harmonics contents which is less than 5% and near unity power factor (pf) operation.

This paper proposes the use of Embedded EZ-source
inverter system (EZSI) as a single stage power conversion
concept for adjustable speed drives (ASD) in photovoltaic
applications. Open loop and closed loop control strategy of
EZSI system are proposed. EZSI produces the same voltage
gain as Z-source inverter (ZSI) but due to the DC sources
embedded within the X- shaped impedance network, it has
the added advantage of inherent source filtering capability
and also reduced capacitor sizing. This is attained without
any extra passive filters. By controlling the shoot-through
duty ratio and modulation index, EZSI system can produce
any desired AC output voltage even greater than DC rail
voltage and it also provides ride-through capability under
voltage sag. These advantages are more significant for
adjustable speed drive (ASD) applications in order to regulate
the speed. The operational analysis, control strategy and
simulation results exemplify that an EZSI is the most
promising technique for renewable energy applications in
order to reduce the overall system complexity and thereby
improving the inverter efficiency.
A Novel Hybrid Dstatcom Topology for Load Compensation with Non-Stiff SourceIJERA Editor
The distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) is a shunt active filter, which injects currents into the point
of common coupling (PCC) (the common point where load, source, and DSTATCOM are connected) such that
the harmonic filtering, power factor correction, and load balancing can be achieved. The distribution static
compensator (DSTATCOM) is used for load compensation in power distribution network. A new topology for
DSTATCOM applications with non-stiff source is proposed. The proposed topology enables DSTATCOM to
have a reduced dc-link voltage without compromising the compensation capability. It uses a series capacitor
along with the interfacing inductor and a shunt filter capacitor. With the reduction in dc-link voltage, the
average switching frequency of the insulated gate bipolar transistor switches of the D-STATCOM is also
reduced. Consequently, the switching losses in the inverter are reduced. Detailed design aspects of the series and
shunt capacitors are discussed in this paper. A simulation study of the proposed topology has been carried out
using MATLAB environment and the results analyzed.

Comparative Evaluation of Three Phase Three Level Neutral Point Clamped Z-So...NAGARAJARAOS
The Z-impedance network coThree-level Z-source inverters are recent single-stage topological solutions
proposed for buck-boost energy conversion with all favorable advantages of
three-level switching retained. Despite their effectiveness in achieving voltage
buck-boost conversion, existing three-level Z-source inverters use two
impedance networks and two isolated dc sources, which can significantly
increase the overall system cost and require a more complex modulator for
balancing the network inductive voltage boosting. Offering a number of less
costly alternatives, this paper presents the design and control of two threelevel Z-source inverters, whose output voltage can be stepped down or up
using only a single impedance network connected between the dc input source
and either a neutral-point-clamped (NPC) or dc-link cascaded inverter
circuitry.
This paper investigates the carrier based modulation schemes (SPWM and
Modified SVPWM) of three-level three phase Z-source inverters with either
two Z-source networks or single Z-source network connected between the dc
sources and inverter circuitry. With the proper offset added for achieving both
optimized harmonic performance and fundamental output voltage, the
proposed modulation schemes of three-level Z-source inverters can satisfy the
expected boost operation under unbalanced modulation conditions. The
Simulation has been performed through Matlab/Simulink and relative
simulation results with conventional method have been presented to validate
the proposed methodnsists of L and C components connected in an X fashion.
The firing control of the Z-source inverter includes the shoot through states. The Zsource inverter advantageously utilizes the shoot-through state to boost the DC bus
voltage by gating on both the upper and lower switches of a phase leg. Three-level
neutral-point-clamped (NPC) inverters, having many inherent advantages, are
commonly used as the preferred topology for medium voltage ac drives [1], and have
recently been explored for other low-voltage applications including grid-interfacing
power converters and high-speed drive converters [2], [3]. Despite their generally
favorable output performance, NPC inverters are constrained by their ability to
perform only voltage-buck operation with buck-boost energy conversion, usually
achieved by connecting various dc-dc boost converters to the front ends of the dc-ac
inverters. These two-stage solutions are usually more costly and can be harder to
control, since they involve more active and passive components. Offering a singlestage solution, [4], [5] propose the buck-boost Z-source NPC inverter, whose
topology is illustrated in Fig. 1 (can be viewed as an extension from the two-level Zsource inverter proposed in [6]).
Comparative Evaluation of Generalized Multicell Impedance Source Inverter for...IJPEDS-IAES
Voltage-Source Inverter is limited by its only voltage step-down operation. In adding with extra boosting the flexibility is kept active for the number of semiconductors which is unchanged, voltage-type Z-source inverter was earlier proposed. This new class of inverter is generally less sensitive to electromagnetic noises. However, their boosting capabilities are anyhow less with high component stresses and poorer spectral performances caused by low modulation index ratios. Their boosting gains are, therefore, restricted in practice. To overcome these we use the generalized switched-inductor Z- source inverter is proposed, By comparing with PWM technique and SPWM technique, whose extra boosting abilities and other advantages have been verified in simulation analysis and experiment.
This paper presents combinations of level shifted pulse-width modulation algorithm with conventional discontinuous pulse-width modulation methods for cascaded multilevel inverters. In the proposed DPWM a zero sequence signal is injected in sinusoidal reference signal to generate various modulators with easier implementation. The analysis four various control strategies namely Common Carrier (CC), Inverted Carrier (IC), Phase Shifted (PS) and Inverted Phase Shift (IPS) for cascaded multilevel inverter fed induction motor drive has been illustrated. To validate the proposed work experimental tests has been carried out using dSPACE controller. Experimental study proves that using proposed algorithms reduction in common-mode voltage with fewer harmonics along with reduced switching loss for a cascaded multilevel inverter fed motor drive has been achieved.

Modified T-type topology of three-phase multi-level inverter for photovoltaic...IJECEIAES
In this article, a three-phase multilevel neutral-point-clamped inverter with a modified t-type structure of switches is proposed. A pulse width modulation (PWM) scheme of the proposed inverter is also developed. The proposed topology of the multilevel inverter has the advantage of being simple, on the one hand since it does contain only semiconductors in reduced number (corresponding to the number of required voltage levels), and no other components such as switching or flying capacitors, and on the other hand, the control scheme is much simpler and more suitable for variable frequency and voltage control. The performances of this inverter are analyzed through simulations carried out in the MATLAB/Simulink environment on a threephase inverter with 9 levels. In all simulations, the proposed topology is connected with R-load or RL-load without any output filter.

Filter Based Solar Power Generation System with a Seven Level InverterIJMTST Journal
This paper proposes a new solar power generation system, which is composed of a DC/DC power converter and a new seven-level inverter. The DC/DC power converter integrates a DC-DC boost converter and a transformer to convert the output voltage of the solar cell array into two independent voltage sources with multiple relationships. This new seven-level inverter is configured using a capacitor selection circuit and a full-bridge power converter, connected in cascade. The capacitor selection circuit converts the two output voltage sources of DC-DC power converter into a three-level DC voltage and the full- bridge power converter further converts this three- level DC voltage into a seven-level AC voltage. In this way, the proposed solar power generation system generates a sinusoidal output current that is in phase with the utility voltage and is fed into the utility. The salient features of the proposed seven-level inverter are that only six power electronic switches are used and only one power electronic switch is switched at high frequency at any time. A prototype is developed and tested to verify the performance of this proposed solar power generation system.

Abstract
Three-phase thyristor rectifiers have been used in industries for obtaining a variable dc voltage, but they have a problem of including
large lower-order harmonics in the input currents. For high-power applications, a 12-pulse configuration is useful for reducing the
harmonics, but it still includes the (12m ± 1) th (m: integer) harmonics. In order to further reduce the harmonics, this paper proposes
to supply a ramp wave voltage at the input of a 12-pulse phase-controlled rectifier. Theoretical investigation to reduce harmonics is
presented, and a strategy to control the regulated voltage and unity power factor at input side based on 12 pulse modulation
technique.
This paper discuss the impact of using 3-phase and 12-pulse rectifier circuit commonly found in unity power factor at input ac mains
and regulate output voltage. The 12-pulse topology is known to be more expensive, but produce the least input current harmonics.
However, the latter statement is completely true under balanced line conditions. In practice, the lines are inherently unbalanced.
Hence, the question of whether the 12-pulse rectifier will indeed perform better in terms of the harmonics injected to the line is still
under on-going discussions. This presents the modelling and simulation of both rectifier topologies to compare their input current and
regulated output voltage harmonics. The rectifiers are modelled using the MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation model and several
common cases conditions will be simulated to compare their harmonic levels.

1. INTRODUCTION
Power electronics equipments become more widely used.
Unfortunately, the standard diode bridge rectifiers at the input
side cause several problems as: Low input power factor, high
values of harmonic distortion of ac line currents, and harmonic
pollution on the grid. In recent years, the research interest in
the area of PWM rectifiers has grown rapidly [1] [2]. The
PWM rectifier offers several advantages such as: control of
DC bus voltage, bi-directional power flow, unity power factor,
and sinusoidal line current. Many pulse-width modulation
(PWM) techniques have been adopted for these rectification
devices to improve the input power factor [9]. The phase and
amplitude control (PAC) seems to be the simplest structure
and provides a good switching pattern. The current regulating
fashion in synchronous frame has the advantages of fast
dynamic current response, good accuracy, fixed switching
frequency and less sensitive to parameter variations. Several
strategies [10]–[14] were proposed for 12-pulse diode
rectifiers to further reduce the (12m ±1) th harmonics.
When a three-phase input is available, rectifiers can come in a
variety of pulses such as the 6-pulse and 12-pulse. As the
number of pulses increases, the input characteristic improves.
This results from a greater number of pulses in a given period
which is due to the larger number of devices used [4] [5] [6]
[7] [8]. This, in turn, makes the 12-pulse rectifier more costly.
However, the analysis commonly done to exhibit the
advantage of lower input harmonics, control of DC bus
voltage, bi-directional power flow, unity power factor, and
sinusoidal line current for the 12-pulse is done [4][5][6]. For
high-power applications, a 12-pulse configuration is useful for
reducing the harmonics, but it still includes the (12m ± 1) th
(m: integer) harmonics. In order to further reduce the
harmonics, this paper proposes to supply a ramp wave voltage
at the input of a 12-pulse phase-controlled rectifier.
2. PROBLEM FORMULATION
2.1 Current control and balance of the neutral point
at the DC-side:
It is possible to separately control the input current shape in
each branch of the bridge by inserting a bidirectional switch
into the node. The switch controls the current by controlling
the magnetization of the inductor. Switching charges the
inductor which drives the current through the bidirectional
switch. Deactivating the switch increases the current to bypass
the switch [3]. This results in a negative voltage across the
inductor and drains it. This demonstrates the ability of the
topology to control the current in phase with the mains voltage
(PFC capability).

2.2 Maintaining regulated output voltage:
To draw input current for longer periods boost-type switching
regulators are used [9]. If the output voltage is too high, the
regulation element will normally be commanded to produce a
lower voltage.
Ripple factor is the variation of the amplitude of DC (Direct
current) due to improper filtering of AC power supply which
can be improved by increasing the number of
pulses.RF=vrms/vdc.
Harmonics must be mitigated on the secondary side of the
transformer to provide proper input to the rectifier. A better
Transformer utilization factor is obtained using three phase 12
pulse rectifier.

Resistive load
Ideal devices(no device losses)
Series connection for high voltage is also possible, as shown
in the full wave rectifier of circuit. With this arrangement, it
can be seen that the three common cathode valves generate a
positive voltage respect to the neutral, and the three common
anode valves produce a negative voltage. The result is a dc
voltage twice the value of the half wave rectifier. Each half of
the bridge is a three-pulse converter group. This bridge
connection is a two-way connection, and alternating currents
flow in the valve-side transformer windings during both half
periods, avoiding DC components into the windings, and
saturation in the transformer magnetic core. These
characteristics made them also called Graetz Bridge the most
widely used line commutated thyristor rectifier. The
configuration does not need any special transformer, and
works as a six-pulse rectifier. The series characteristic of this
rectifier produces a DC voltage twice the value of the half-
wave rectifier. The load average voltage is given by:

5. SIMULATION RESULTS
At t=200 ms, a 10-kW load is switched-in. We can see that the
dynamic response of the DC regulator to this sudden load
variation (10 kW to 20 kW) is satisfactory. The DC voltage is
back to 500 V within 1.5 cycles and the unity power factor on
the AC side is maintained.

Simulation results show that the DC-Link voltage is little
affected and the ripple is very weak, which indicates that the
controller can achieve DC voltage constant.

is near 1 and the currents are also sinusoidal, which means the
controller achieves harmonic suppression. (b) Shows that the

CONCLUSIONS
This paper specifies the MATLAB/SIMULATION model.
Comparison of performance for 3 pulse and 12 pulse PWM
rectifiers is done. Best result of ripple factor, efficiency, and
unity input power factor at input mains, harmonics reduction
and regulated output voltage is obtained using twelve pulse
PWM rectifier. As the number of pulses increases harmonic
reduction will be better and hence a better DC link output
voltage is achieved. This idea can be extended by using
different control strategies like z-converters.
