Theme Of Love Story
The book I read is Love Story , by Erich Segal, who is an accredited screenwriter, author of
scholarly books, and was hailed the most important new writer of the 1970 s for this tragic tale. The
book is published by Harper Row and is a short 130 pages. Portions of this book first appeared in
The Ladies Home Journal and was officially published as a novelin 1970. This book was
recommended to me by my father and the New York Times #1 best sellers list.
The two main characters in this book are Oliver Barrett IV and Jenny Cavilleri. Oliver is a child
of privilege, the son of a family of importance dating back many generations. He is top of his
class at Harvard and plays for their hockey team. He also finds it hard to overcome his father s
accomplishments and feels he constantly falls short. Jennifer is the only child of a widowed
baker, as opposite from Oliver as one person can be. She comes from humble beginnings and has a
close relationship with her father, unlike Oliver.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oliver Barrett senior is a competitive reputation driven man. Throughout the novel, Segal
characterizes a constant back and forth power struggle between father and son which leads to their
eventual falling out when Oliver Barrett III cuts off his son financially. Oliver s mother, Alison, is
portrayed as a very ostentatious character who only talks to feel important given college dropout
status. Phil Cavilleri is the father of Jenny and the stark opposite of Oliver Barrett III. Phil is a
family man and enjoys being apart of Jenny and Oliver s

INTERNET SEARCHING
AUGUST 2012
Preface
Online search / internet searching has become an essential for students and scholars. What
typically took place in libraries, by phone calls or visits to experts in the field is being changed
because of the Internet. Experts can sometimes be contacted by email and information, whether it
is addresses, phone numbers, or detailed specifics on a certain subject, can be accessed on the
World Wide Web
. Search Engines have become the most important tools in locating this
information, so it is important to know how to use them effectively. Search skills can be developed
through practice in using the search engines and by reading the help pages provided by the ... Show

The appeal of the Internet to these bodies was obvious, as it allowed disparate institutions to connect
to each others computing systems and databases, as well as share data via E mail. The nature of the
Internet changed abruptly in 1992, when the U.S. government began pulling out of network
management, and commercial entities offered Internet access to the general public for the first
time. This change in focus marked the beginning of the Internet s astonishing expansion. In addition
to text documents, the Internet makes available graphics files (digitized photographs and artwork),
and even files that contain digitized sound and video. Through the Internet, you can download
software, participate in interactive forums where users post and respond to public messages, and
even join chats, in which you and other users type (and, in some cases, speak) messages that are
received by the chat participants instantly. Obviously, the Internet can bring you a whole host of
capabilities. But how can they be put to practical use? Among the ways that users take advantage of
the Internet are: Sharing research and business data among colleagues and like minded individuals.
Communicating with others and transmitting files via E mail. Requesting and providing assistance
with problems and questions. Marketing and publicizing products and services. Gathering valuable
feedback and suggestions from customers and business

Themes Of Death Of The Moth
Throughout The Death of the Moth, the main theme is derived from the observation and
recognition. By observing the moth s little movement to revive, Woolf recognizes the connection
between life and death, and the receptive attitude towards the death. As a human, we usually do not
really care or learn a lesson from a moth s behavior. We usually think a moth is a little, insignificant
creature. However, as if our thoughts are wrong, Woolf highly values the moth s endless tries to
avoid the death and through that, she conveys the moral of the essay. He flew vigorously to one
corner of his compartment, and, after waiting there for a second, few across to the other (Woolf,
125). This sentencedescribes how the moth flies around the window with his trivial movement.
That trivial movement becomes a base of Woolf s realization of the value of the death. Woolf
discusses her observation of moth s movements and the death in details, using many adjectives that
illustrate moth s eternal tries. In that sense, a question is raised: Why the writer describes her
observations of the moth in details, rather writes about the moral and purpose more in focus? The
above question can be answered by the purpose of this essay. As the story of the moth progresses in
a consecutive order, Woolf s attitude towards the moth also changes. There was something
marvelous as well as pathetic about him (Woolf, 126). This sentence clearly indicates the change of
her attitude towards the moth. At the

Comparison Between Plato And Plato
Over centuries theorists and philosophers and have been creating new ideas in order to help form
society. The philosophers help determine why we obey, what morality is, how to create justice
inside and outside society, the state of nature, equality, and the state of war. They distinguish how
the people and government help create a well oiled society. Comparing Platoto Rousseau, the
beginning of philosophy to a more modern perspective. In Crito by Plato, Socrates continues a
speech of the Laws of Athens by appealing to a social contract that exists between the Laws and
the citizens. By living in Athens, one must abide by the Laws of Athens. Since Socrates is in
prison, if he were to try to escape he would be breaking the Law. Socrates lived in Athens
following the Athenian Law up to this point. Socrates dismissed the possibility of exile, saying
he would rather die than live outside of Athens. Though they offered the exile freely, to flee
Athens when the Law no longer permitted him to do so. There is no reason or will for Socrates
to break to Law now when he always agreed to follow them. The problem with this is that Socrates
accusers have unjustly sentenced him by usig the Laws. The accusers viewed the Laws in their
own perspective. By writing Crito, Plato hoped to distinguish them as a separate entity, making
them something human toward which Socrates might be able to act unjustly. However, it may be
hard to deem that the laws of a state from which the people who apply

Brown V Board Of Education 1954
Brown v. Board of Education is a landmark case that was decided on by the U.S. Supreme Court
on May 17, 1954. The decision changed the way black citizens were to be treated by eliminating
segregation of students into all white and all black schools (Brown v. Board of Education, 1954).
Before this ruling, Plessy v. Ferguson allowed for segregation stating it was alright as long as the
students were treated equally (Plessy v. Ferguson, 1896). The problem with this, is that they were
not. Black students were forced to ride buses to schools that were far away from where they lived
and lacked funds for needed supplies to give a quality education. This demonstrated that while

How To Transform Australian Food Culture
Since the early years of European settlement, Australia has developed as a diverse multicultural
society. Today, 23 percent of Australians were born in another country and just over 25 percent of
the population have at least one parent born overseas. All these people have brought their food
habits to Australia, which has resulted in the expansion of the diet of all Australians. As people
migrated here, they brought their traditional foodhabits, preparation techniques and cooking
methods with them. They then had to adapt these to the foods available within Australia.

James Agee and Walker Evans Essay
James Agee and Walker Evans
Fortune Magazine, in July and August of 1936, sent James Agee and Walker Evans to research a
story on sharecropping. In the preface of Let Us Now Praise Famous Men, Agee describes it as a
curious piece of work. They were to produce an article on cotton tenantry in the United States, in
the form of a photographic and verbal record of the daily living and environment of an average
white family of tenant farmers, (IX). James Agee and WalkerEvans set out to write and photograph
an article for a magazine, and ended up experimenting with the form of the novel itself.
James Agee was born in 1909 in Knoxville, Tennessee, but was in the urban middle class, so he had
no experience with cotton farming. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Agee and Evans set out to publish an article in Fortune Magazine, but when they brought back
their work to the editors, they were rebuked. The article was over 400 pages of controversial
writing and even various book editors refused to publish it as a novel. Finally in 1941 it was
published by Mifflin in Massachusetts after the author was forced to take out a few outlawed
words in the state. They failed in their original mission to produce an article, but undoubtedly
presented a photographic and verbal record of the average white southern tenant farmer families. By
living with three different families for four weeks, Evans depicted their innermost sorrows through
his photographs, and Agee portrayed and emboldened their spirit by his written words. The novel
itself was an experiment in form, with Evans photos all placed in the front without captions, rather
than dispersed throughout the novel. Even in the text, Agee continually stops himself mid
description and enters into a stream of consciousness describing the difficulties of articulating
accurately the tenant families true expressions. For these reasons, it was considered a failure when
it was published, but also for the same reasons it was considered an amazing success twenty years
later in the 1960s.
In the Preface, Agee conveys that this is a book only by necessity. More seriously, it is an effort in
human actuality, in which the reader is no less centrally involved than the

The Searchers By John Ford
John Ford s 1956 film, The Searchers, is a classic Western tale set in the staked plains, post Civil
War era. Like most of John Ford s Western films, The Searchers is also filmed in Monument
Valley, Arizona/Utah. John Ford first introduces Ethan Edwards (John Wayne) returning on
horseback to his brother, Aaron Edwards s (Walter Coy) house three years after the Civil War.
Ethan is introduced to Martin Pawley (Jeffery Hunter), the adopted son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwards.
The film moves forward when Rev. Captain Clayton (Ward Bond) volunteers Ethan, Marty, and a
group of men to search for the Jorgensen s missing cattle. The search turns its tracks when the men
realize that the Edwards family have been killed by the Comanche Indians, and Debbie (Natalie
Wood) and Lucy (Pippa Scott) are taken by Scar. Although Ethan is the anti hero, him and Marty
are the protagonists of The Searchers. Both Ethan and Marty s lives are flipped upside down and
are now on a journey to save Debbie and Lucy. The antagonist, Scar, is possibly considered Ethan
s alter ego because they share several similarities. Throughout the film, Ethan and Marty face many
challenges accepting their background and issues. The overall meaning of the film is to let go of
the past and accept what the future has to offer; John Fords use of paradigm, style, and themes
drives the overall meaning throughout the film.
Notably, John Ford s paradigm moves the overall meaning of the film by the structure of the events

Questions On Options And Options
в‘ў Options
Options are traded both on exchanges and in the over the counter market. There are two types of
option which are call option, giving the holder the right to buy the underlying asset by a certain
date for a certain price, and put option, giving the holder the right to sell the underlying asset by a
certain date for a certain price, while both the counter parties only have obligations (usually the
speculators). Apart from that, depending on the expiration date, American options can be exercised
at any time up to the expiration date while European options can be exercised only on the maturity
itself. Because of the right that options provide to the holder to decide whether or not to exercise
the contract, there is a cost to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

в‘Ј Swaps
Swaps now occupy a position of central importance in over the counter derivatives market. The
statistics produced by the Bank for International Settlements show that about 58.5% of all over
the counter derivatives are interest rate swaps and a further 4% are currency swaps. A swap is
an over the counter agreement between two parties to exchange cash flows in the future. The
agreement defines the dates when the cash flows are to be paid and the way in which they are to
be calculated. Usually the calculation of the cash flows involves the future value of an interest
rate, an exchange rate, or other market variable. The most popular (plain vanilla) interest rate
swap is one where LIBOR is exchanged for a floating rate of interest. In this swap, one party
agrees to pay the other party interest at a fixed rate on a notional principal for a number of years.
In return, it receives interest at a floating rate on the same notional principal for the same period of
time. Principal amounts are not usually exchanged in the interest rate swap.
Take another popular swap as an interpretation for hedging and speculation, which is currency swap.
In its simplest form, this involves paying interest on a principal amount in one currency and
receiving interest on a principal in another currency.

Can presidential systems work effectively in deeply divided societies? [Make reference to at least
two cases of your choosing.]
Thesis Statement
Presidentialism is a system of government in which the president is elected both chief executives
and as head of government (Ogelsby SuГЎrez, 1968) and is the main system of democratic
government apart from parliamentary systems. Presidential systems tend to centralise priorities of
the government to stabilise society. Normally, they are classed into separate regions of power;
where the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government are dependent on one
another and cannot work effectively in deeply divided societies. This argument is ruled by the
fact that they are 1) divisive, causing isolation between ethnoreligious groups. Elites are
prioritised over minority working class groups and 2) inherently majoritarian, as only a single
position is given causing proportionality to become impossible. In places such as Latin America
and Northern Ireland, we see the ways in which these theories have proven ineffectiveness.
However, presidential systems aim to separate powers in order to protect citizens rights and deter
abuse of power for good governance overall. Through this presidential systems, however, have
quick decisiveness in resolving societal issues. Without effective separation; executive, legislative
and judicial powers,

Informative Speech About Transgender
Save it for me, Jesus! Don t let me die, Lord. Don t let me die! The old woman prompted up on

Oh, help me, Jesus. Whooo, help me, Lord! Out of breath, the old woman rolled onto her back
and huffed and puffed while looking at the ceiling. The fight continued on without her. Have
mercy, Jesus. Knowing she needed the syringe to walk out of that room alive, she tried to get
back into the fierce fight, reciting scriptures to build her strength. Help me get up, Lord. I m

Someone kicked her in the mouth and brought her words to a stinging shut up. She tumbled over
on her back where she stayed and gave up the physical fight, but she kept belting out scriptures
one after the other. The transgender moved as fast as he could, but others were ahead of him.
He stood and took a deep dive over the others, landing next to the businessman and rushed past
him to get under the table. The businessman reached for his shirt, but grabbed his hair and
pulled, his wig came off. He freaked out, threw the wig to the side and grabbed hold of the
transgender s shirt. He turned on his back and started kicking his oppressor. The others
continued fighting, they could see the syringe, some could even feel it with the tips of their
fingers. They reached for it, but arms were snatched, pulled, held, bent and slapped away. The
syringe was quickly swooped up, but a present danger awaited the college student who made it to
it first. She rolled over and looked back to see everyone s eyes staring at her and instantly felt the
intimidation of being the first one to make it to the syringe. In jeopardy, the rush to get from
under the table was paramount. But even making it to her feet did not stop the pursuit of the
others. In fact, it made it easier for them to attack her. In a panic, she knew she had to hold them
off. Hold on, hold on. Wait, wait, wait! This is not the way to do this. Everyone was out of breath;
they struggled to get up. The old woman

against the opinion many Americans have about them filling in jobs they do not want such as
hard working labor in the fields. However, many Americans don t realize that these Mexican
workers are usually paid less than an American would be paid. In the beginning of the poem Baca
addresses the American stereotype of Mexicans taking jobs from Americans in a very sarcastic
manner. He continues by saying that Mexicans are not taking their jobs, and explains how
Mexicans come to America to try to make a living for their family, which they are not able to get in
Mexico. The poem is full of symbolism to illustrate the misinterpretation Americans have towards...

that in fact Americans are talking and saying Mexicans are taking jobs from them. Then in line 18
he describes how he has not been able to find those Mexicans that are trying to take jobs from
Americans. He says, I ve gone about trying to find them .
He continues to say, where the hell are these fighters (19), the ones he has not been able to find, and
then points the insincerity and irony of Americans that he finds instead. Baca describes American

The Cost Of Eating Healthy
The Cost of Eating Healthy Wouldn t it be reasonable to consider that people just might eat
healthier if they simply had the money to do so? It would be interesting to consider that the
people who usually have bad eating habits, are the ones who actually can t afford to eat healthy.
America has the highest obesity rate in the world, but who knows where we could be if the
healthy food was more affordable and the junk food wasn t reasonably cheap. Illnesses and
diseases have become common too in people, many that come from just unhealthy eating that has
taken a negative toll on the body. Not to mention, people living in low income areas where in
those areas, the main thing around them are fast food restaurants. The promotion of healthier
eating and a healthier lifestyle, though, isn t completely hidden from the public, though more
ads about tasty junk food are on televisions, billboards, and so on, more than food that will
benefit your body and general health. These things are all played into the fact that people already
have a terrible diet, and the prices of foods that can make someone s diet healthier are too high for
most to even include them in their diet regularly. Healthier foods should cost less because it can
help lower the high obesity rate in America, it will promote a healthier lifestyle to people to do
things like exercise more, and it can help prevent life threatening illnesses caused by unhealthy
eating. Low income areas have the biggest influence on

My Experience In New York City
Looking around, I had seen diversity like I d never seen before. I was in another world. Even
though New York City can be a dangerous place, I felt comfortable there. My view of Kansas is
now forever changed. On that trip, I found out what I wanted to do during my adult life. My

moseying their way to a seat or hurrying to their gate. Just a few hours ago, I was at school,

appointment she had forgot about. We shuffled across the tile floor to the office. I studied the
orange fish in the tank by the secretary s desk, waiting for my sister. When she arrived, my mom
took out her phone and held it up like she was going to take a picture. I raised an eyebrow in
confusion. My mom handed us each a tiny envelope with a list of things we needed to pack. My
confusion quickly transformed into delight when I read the bottom of the page. It said that we

Artificial Intelligence Dangers
What are the dangers and possible benefits of Artificial Intelligence? Throughout the course of
history, technological advances have proven to not only influence, but significantly impact one s
quality of life. Within society, there are those who strongly believe that these advancements have
saved lives and benefitted future generations, while others argue against it, firmly articulating that
the progression of technology will prove to work against the overall betterment of humanity.
Despite this, one cannot deny society s obsession and thirst for the next big technological
advancement. Human s, never content with what they have, are extremely vulnerable and
susceptible to consumeristic tendencies. Regardless of what is actually attainable, we always focus
on the technology of the future. Perhaps the definition of futuristic advancement can be best
understood as Artificial Intelligence? Surprisingly the days of Artificial Intelligence are
approaching; however, with this revelation come challenging questions. What can be gained
through Artificial Intelligence how will humanity be impacted by this technology? Are there
potential dangers associated with it? Will Artificial Intelligence be a universal advancement? Only
through further exploration and analysis of these questions will one be able to fully grasp the
notion of Artificial Intelligence Studies have demonstrated that there are many diverse ways that
Artificial Intelligence can make one s

THE ROLE OF AMERICAN SOLDIERS
The Role of American Soldiers during and after the Second Battle of Marne
In the beginning, World War Iwas considered to be The European War
During the beginning of the war, Americans had decided to remain neutral. Many Americans felt
that it was not the United States war to fight. Things quickly turned around when America s ability
to trade was compromised (Schultz, 2011). Another situation leading to the US joining the war was

The two main gases that used were Chlorine gas and mustard gas. These gases caused the enemy
to drown in their own bodily fluid once exposed. Using poisonous gases came with positives and
negatives. The major positive was is caused major problems to the enemy. One of the major
negatives was that some of the troops would be caught in gas that was meant for the enemy (Bull,
2002).
Trench mortars were used to have a safe place to be protected while attacking or resisting an attack
from the other side. Although it was not an actual weapon itself, it was essential in survival of
many troops on both sides.
Army tanks were first introduced during World War I (Bull, 2002). It was used to provide mobility
and protection. Many of the tanks were equipped with machine guns. The tanks were also used in
order to extract injured soldiers from the battle zone.
The living conditions of World War I was horrible for soldiers. There were many different things
that affected the troops. One of the major concerns was the rats that were in the trenches. There
were millions of rats located in the trenches with the soldiers (Duffy, 2009). The rats caused
infection and contaminated lots of the scarce food that the soldiers had (Duffy, 2009).

What Is D-Day In Canada
Juno was the landing area for the 3rd Canadian Division. The division was to assault the coast
through a line of small resort towns from Graye Sur Mer to St Aubin (Neillands Norman, 232).
There were different names for different sectors of the invasion. There was Mike Red and Mike
Green to the west side, and Nan Red , Nan Green , and Nan White to the east (Neillands Norman,
233). Landing on the beach there was the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, the Regina Rifle Regiment, the
Canadian Scottish Regiment, the Queen s Own Rifles of Canada, the French Canadian Regiment
de la Chaudiere and the North Shore (Chartwell, 52). Now D Day, or some call it Juno Beach, is a
defining moment and played a big role for Canadians in the development of their future in military
affairs. What makes it a defining moment is that Canada succeeded in their objectives, Canada
supported the mother country and alliesin this battle, and Canada fought the most in D Day. But for
Canada that was no problem.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Canadian landings on the beach were a great success and progressed farther inland than any unit
of their allies. The Americans and the British did manage to get ashore too, but with a varying

1030 hours (10:30 am) Juno Beach Commander, Major General R.F. Keller, felt confident enough
to send a message to General Crerar (Douglas, 65). A troop of 1st Hussars tanks also helped
Canada succeed in their objectives by advancing 15km from the beach. They gained the reputation

The Issue Of Cyber Crimes Essay
Jurisdiction is one of the main issues on account of cyber crimes because of the extremely inclusive
nature of the cyber crimes. With the constantly developing arm of the internet the territorial concept
appears to vanish. New Methods for resolution of dispute should offer route to the traditional
techniques. Accordingly, the Information Technology Act, 2000 is quiet on these issues.
In spite of the fact that S. 75 accommodates extra territorial operations of this law, yet they could be
significant just when supported with provisions which recognizes orders and warrants for
Information issued by capable authorities outside their purview and measure for cooperation s for
trade of material and evidences of cyber violations between law implementation organizations.
Normally the jurisdiction of a court is identified with the place where the offense is committed. This
depends on the English common law position that all crimes committed are local and ought to be
tried just by the courts which have the jurisdiction over the matter and where the crime has been
committed. When there is a confusion with regards to the local area which any crime took place,
the courts, inside whose purview even a part of the offense was submitted, is given the jurisdiction
to try the matter.

In August 1990, a great threat was before the United States as Saddam Hussein was rallying his

The Standard American Business Suit Essay
It s happened to all of us. You re standing in front of your closet, staring into the deep abyss of
clothing in front of you. In a frantic search to find a suitable outfit for the day, you shuffle through
the myriad amounts of color options in front of you. Mystical teals, burnt oranges and chocolaty
browns fill your gaze. You just cannot seem to find anything that you would feel comfortable
wearing for the day. In terms of style, coloris the cornerstone. Many, however, lack the ability to
color coordinate. The color of what we wear can exude an impact much greater than we could
even define. The topic of the unspoken language of color will allow those who are less
fashionable to gain an understanding of the silent essence their clothing gives off. The unspoken
social language of color is one that relays who we are. It can emit our emotions, our personality
and allow us to relive eras of our humanity. The standard American business suit is an example.
Following a basic formula, it involves a grey suit, white shirt, deep toned tie, and white pocket
square with either black shoes. The dark tones are closely tied with authority and leadership. There
are a handful of ways to play around with this, but if you wish to convey the message that you re
there for business, you ll stick to the basic formula. Substitute the white shirt out for light blue, and
suddenly the suit means something completely different. Drop the white pocket square for a greenor

Analysis Of The Poem Nothing Gold Can Stay
The poem Nothing Gold Can Stay was written by Robert Frost in 1927. He married his wife Elinor
in 1895, though she died in 1938. He had 5 kids with her, Elliot, Carol, Irma, Marjorie, and
Elinor. Elliot and Elinor died as small children, Carol and Marjorie who died at the ages of 38 and
in the late 20s. Whereas Irma the last child suffered from mental illness.
Although Nothing Gold Can Stay is short, it is a narrative because it is telling a story.
The title of the poem, Nothing Gold Can Stay, has multiple meanings and can mean whatever you
perceive it as. It talks about Nature s renewal every spring and how it s hard for Mother Nature to
hold on to spring. Whereas during the time period he wrote the poem World War 2 was happening
and so he was talking about how he thought the world was going to end and lose everything
beautiful about it.
Although there is no steady repetition the word gold is used throughout the poem, and gold is
referring to everything beautiful in the world and how no matter what we do we can t stop time
from taking its beauty from it.
In the poem, it is talking about when spring comes and goes, or about how nothing that has
beauty can stay forever . For example, it says But only so an hour as referring to how short your
childhood can go by. So dawn goes down to day this could also mean how fast it goes by because
dawn can disappear very fast.
There is two characters, and one is Mother Nature and she is the one that is trying to get spring to
stay

From the beginning of my internship to the end, my plans for the future have become even clearer
as I have completed my internship and the program. I came into this internship with a general idea
of what I wanted my future to look like, such as getting my masters, joining the military, and
working for federal law enforcement. However, now after completing my internship and The

after I graduate college. I plan to apply to as numerous agencies as possible in the fall and if I get
hired on, I will join the reserves. If I do not get hired, I will join active duty, and as I become
more experienced I will continue to apply to agencies until I am able to get a job in a federal
agency. I feel more equipped for a job in law enforcement after I have expanded my knowledge

The Revolution Of The 1960 S
The Young in the 1960 s
Many people believe the 1960s, were the golden age but, contrary, by the end of the decade, it
seemed like the The United States was falling apart. That could be one of the reason why
different groups were growing with new ideas, demands and of course many reforms. Student
activists became more and more radical. They protested over colleges, massive antiwar
demonstrations and occupied various public places to make their revolutionary ideas visible and
to be heard. In 1960s, the new radicalism took place. New groups of students became to gather,
such as the Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) and Students for a Democratic Society (SDS)
two years later. Both groups were viewed as the leading edge of a new radicalism. These group
believed they had a new route to greater freedom. The students documented and summarized their
beliefs and what some called the New Left. They believed the participatory democracy was the real
social change. By the mid 1960s, facing growing opposition among the young to the war in
Vietnam, they were viewed as a rebellion force. They became more militant and active in social
issues and politics. Some demonstrations were violent and even people died. The young group
became a strong force in The United Stated and, also other countries. Also, changed their physical
appearance by growing their hair, used drugs and, practice free love. In the beginning of the 1960 s

Reflection Paper On A Community
LOCAL EXEGESIS PAPER
A. Describe
Since my faith community, The House LA Church, is located in the same area where we did the
LA Urban Exegesis project, I chose to reflect on the cultural and social aspects of Santa Monica, a
beachfront city in the western Los Angeles County. Even though the city has more than 900 of the
homeless population (City of Santa Monica, 2017), it is considered to be an affluent urban dwelling
due to the diversified economy that includes media production, tourism, finance, and other
industries.
Upon exegeting the city, I walked through three main areas of Santa Monica, the Third Street
Promenade, the Main Street, and the Montana Avenue. Then, I visited an Anglican Church located
in Santa Monica, the Vintage Church LA. I was curious to uncover how this faith community
meets the spiritual and social needs of people of Santa Monica; hence I managed to have a
meeting with one of its pastors. At the end of this exercise, I attended an Alpha Course session; the
program ran by this church, which aims to create a safe and welcoming space for spiritual seekers
from all backgrounds to discuss spirituality and Christianity in particular.

coexistence of culturally different groups of people: locals and International tourists, reach and

Good art allows me to flee the realms of reality. In my mind s limitless consciousness, I can

Languages form an essential part of every human experience. To express oneself is one of the
simplest joys we can experience. English and Music are two such languages in my life, that
indirectly relate to, have a profound impact on mine. My interests in Music, just as in Literature,
extend to a wide array of genres, whether it be Bob Dylan or Tchaikovsky. After relentless
perseverance at the age of 16, My father bought me a black dreadnought. I spent hours upon
hours practicing by watching instructional videos and my favorite guitar players play. In no time
I was playing shows, from winning school competitions to performing at live music theatre
events. I had soon established a name for myself as a singer songwriter by being a supporting act
for many bands. I soon began recording my rendition of songs on my laptop, eventually writing
my own music and now working on my album. This has proved to be a huge learning curve, in
enabling me to understand the dynamics of a composition, Thereby continually improving myself.
In my spare time, I have been teaching English to Arab students. It has been a remarkably
challenging experience. I have learned far more teaching than I had as a student, in trying to
articulate my thoughts in words they could understand. This has been a humbling and rewarding
experience. I realize there remains a vast ocean of knowledge I am still unaware of, which
empowers me to thrive and work hard in an undergraduate environment.

Cultural Issues and the Psychological Framework
Cultural Issues and the Psychological Framework Some of the many cultural issues faced by human
resource managers are communication including communicating company culture, language
barriers, understanding the business etiquette in other countries, the concept of face that is
recognized in many cultures, and that employees may have some amount of fear when they are
immersed in the new culture. Geert Hofstedecreated a cultural framework based on five dimensions
of psychology to offer some understanding of different cultural issues (Ahlstrom Bruton, 2010, p.
47).
Applying the Cultural Framework Hofstede based his framework on five basic dimensions power
distance, individualism collectivism, uncertainty avoidance, production orientation, and Confucian
dynamism (Ahlstrom Bruton, 2010, p. 47). Some of these dimensions can be used to analyze some
of the different cultural issues that affect HRM and explain why issues exist between cultures.
Power Distance Power Distance represents the measurement by which less powerful employees
acknowledge the power exerted by those with more power (Clearly Cultural, 2014, para. 1). This
index explains why certain cultures may have issues with communication. Those countries which
have a very high power distance, such as Malaysia, would have a culture where lower level
employees would not question instructions given by management. An expatriate working in
Malaysia would need to understand this concept in order to communicate properly

The Aging Population Of America
Introduction
The aging population in America is growing quickly and is projected to double by the year 2050.
The current growth in the number and proportion of older adults in the United States is
unprecedented in our nation s history. By 2050, it is anticipated that Americans aged 65 or older
will number nearly 89 million people (The State of Aging and Health in America, 2013). Along
with this increase in the aging population, it is estimated that by the year 2020, 157 million
Americans will have some form of chronic illness (Taking Care: Ethical Caregiving in Our
Society, 2005). With advances in medicine, people are able to live longer lives with chronic
illnesses that in the past resulted in a decreased life expectancy.
In addition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To compensate for this, many are looking towards helping older adults stay in their home for as
long as possible, even if they experience functional or cognitive impairments. This idea is known as
aging in place. In the USA, 95% of adults over the age of 75 want to age in place. There are
benefits and challenges to aging in place. The benefits of aging in place are that it improves
perceived quality of life and is cost effective, whereas the challenges include declines in cognitive
and functional abilities of older adults, as well as time pressures on formal and informal caregivers
who must visit older adults in their homes throughout the community (Connelly, Laghari, Mokhtari,
Falk, 2014).
Fortunately, there are technologies that can assist with aging in place. These technologies produce
better health outcomes, lower caregiver burden, and save money over the life of the individual.
There are several types of technologies which will be discussed in this paper, which include
technologies that provide education and support social networking, technologies that support
monitoring and management of health and well being, and chronic conditions, and finally
technologies that support interactions with the healthcare system (Marchibroda, 2015). This
research paper will show that the use of technology will greatly benefit the elderly population in
helping them to age in place.

Social Relationships Within The Media Industry Essay
The way advertisers from the 1960s onwards responded to the causes of demassification of
consumers began when the media industry was restructuring itself into smaller independent
operating entities. The shift during this time formed large operating industry s into smaller lines of
production meant that advertisers would have to change their focus from a mass audience into
smaller groups of well targeted consumers. Leiss, Kline, Jhally, and Botterill refer to this process of
identifying smaller target markets as one of demassification (309). Fletcher suggests, over the past
four decades, this has led to a more diverse representation within advertisingas different groups have
been identified as disposable income (129). Therefore, the process of demassification has uniquely
caused social relationships within the consumer cultureduring the 1960s onwards.
The 1960s marked a shift of consumer culture that became the process of demassifying , ... as
social relations rooted in class, family and work were challenged by the fashioning of individual
lifestyles in the expanded domain of consumer culture (Leiss et al. 295) Demassification during that
particular time was increasing ad costs, but it also made advertisers look at what they get for their
media expenditures. As Caffery suggested, demassification was building, so was the bill. When you
combine smaller audiences with higher costs, alarm systems start to ring (13). These transformations

Wernicke s Aphasia
Background
Aphasia can be defined as a disorder that is caused by damage to parts of the brain that are
responsible for language ( Aphasia n.p.). Wernicke s aphasia is a type of fluent aphasia (with the
other type being nonfluent). It is named after Carl Wernickewho described the disorder as an
amnesiac disorder characterized by fluent but disordered speech, with a similar disorder in writing,
and impaired understanding of oral speech and reading ( Wernicke s n.p.). Wernicke s aphasiacan

Because Wernicke s aphasia is most often brought on by a stroke, this disorder is mostly
prevalent in the elderly, however it can be found among children. Men and women are equally
affected by Wernicke s aphasia. About 80,000 people get aphasia each year as a result of strokes,
and it is believed that about one million people in the United States currently suffer from aphasia (
aphasia n.p.).
Prognosis
Wernicke s aphasia results not in a loss of speech, but in a loss of speech content. Someone with
a less severe form of Wernicke s aphasia may only insert a few incorrect or nonexistent words into
their speech, while someone with a severe form may ramble on, using only jargon, meaningless or
irrelevant speech with typical intonational patterns. The rate, intonation, articulation, and stress of
speech remain normal and unaffected ( Types n.p.). Comprehension and expression of speech tend
to be impaired equally. If one ignores the content, the speech of a patient with Wernicke s aphasia
would seem normal. They speak in long, well formed sentences, however they contain little to no
real meaning (McCaffrey n.p.) Speech often includes verbal, literal, and neologistic paraphasias.
Verbal paraphasias include substituting words that can be related to each other, for example, knife
for fork. Literal paraphasias include made up words that have similar sounding syllables, for
example, bife for knife.

The Strategies The Meiji Government Used to Achieve Economic Development?
The Meiji government during the 1880 s created both an institutional and constitution structure that
allowed Japan in the coming decades to be a stabile and industrializing country. Two major policies
and strategies that reinforced stability and economic modernization in Japan were the creation of a
national public education system and the ratification of the Meiji constitution.
Both these aided in stability and thus economic growth.
The creation of a national education system aided in creating stability because it indoctrinated
youth in the ideas of loyalty, patriotism, and obedience. Japan s education system at first stressed

1887 and signed into law in 1889 helped create a stable constitutional order in
Japan. The constitution was a gift of the emperor to the people and was made up of a complicated
set of checks and balances between the emperor, his cabinet, and the Diet. The constitution although
it granted voting rights to only one percent of the population in Japan was well received by the
people and played a critical role in lending legitimacy to the oligarchy (Genro) who ran the
government. Before the constitution the Genro had little basis in theory for their continued rule
other then they spoke for the emperor. But the constitution with its elections and bicameral diet
lender legitimacy to the rule of the oligarchy. The constitution also brought Japan at least in the

The Potential And Its Effects On Cancer Cells
Limitless replicative potential is an acquired capability of many cancer cells, and it was listed as
one of the original hallmarks of cancer [1]. It is mostly achieved by upregulation of telomerase, a
reverse transcriptase DNA synthesis enzyme that maintains the telomeres length. Most tumor cells
have a high level of telomerase activity but short telomeres due to prior divisions before achieving
telomerase activating malignancies [2]. In contrast, normal progenitor cells and stem cells have
relatively long telomeres and lower mitotic/telomerase activity, and in normal differentiated somatic
cells telomerase expression is repressed. Thus, telomerase inhibition provides an attractive
therapeutic opportunity because of its universality, criticality and specificity for cancercells [3].
Numerous strategies have been proposed for silencing this enzyme [reviewed in 2 3], but due to
heterogeneity and complexity of cancers, as well as polymorphisms in human genomes, the search
for effective and precise treatments for polymerase inhibition is still active.
Nanotechnology is the latest evolving field, and its applications in cancer therapeutics have
demonstrated great potential. Specifically, nanomedicine utilizes the advantages of nanodelivery
systems [4]. The nanocarrier system is a new system for transporting biological molecules that has
the advantages of being highly efficient, non immunogenic, safe, inexpensive, biodegradable, and
stable [4].
As a result, some previously

The Battle Of The Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase was a territory at first that stretched from New Orleans to the British
Columbia and from the New Spaniards eastern border to the Ohio river. The land was 909,000
square miles but 4 cents an acre. The area was first owned by France then moved from France to
Spain around 1762 and finally after 40 years back to France, then sold to us.The reason it was so
important too many people was the Mississippi river s entrance to the Gulf of Mexico.
After France showed they were selling this territory, an opening showed up for America. While
Thomas Jefferson was president at the time; he wanted to make a presidential move and buy this
important land. But there was a problem with this; Jefferson didn t know if this purchase could be
constitutional since there was nothing about it. So after talking to congress they decided to come
up with the 1803 Treaty of the Louisiana Purchase. After purchasing this land the United States
doubled in size but also lost $15 million dollars. The purchase was made May 2nd but the land
wasn t possessed until December 20, 1803. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But he would need an exploration of the west. So Jefferson hired a acquaintance of his secretary
a U.S army member Meriwether Lewis to do this; who later hired William Clark to be a co captain
of the trip. After the trip they gathered maps of the land, climate observations, food vegetation in
the area, and Indians and other people. After learning of the Louisiana Purchase it was Pike s dream
too set off on such an adventure. Pike covered 5,000 miles in 9 months gathering information on
Spanish territories and army locations, British activity going against the John Jay treaty, and finally
Indian treaties like the Friendship

The Myers Briggs Profile Is Bases
The Neo Freudian theorist on which on which the Myers Briggs profile is bases is Carl Gustav
Jung. Born in 1875 he was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychotherapist who founded analytical
psychology, of which Jung decided the central concept to be individualism. He thought that there
were four basic principal functions by which we see the world, sensation, intuition, feeling, and
thinking. He claimed that we use one of those senses is what we use most of the time. Each of
the eight letters stand for different things in the Myers Briggs profile. The letter E represents
Extraversion. Which are basically extraverts, people that are go getters in life, life working in
large groups, have lots of friends, and are easily excited by being around other people. The letter I
stands for Introversion. Which are introverts, people who are calm, reserved, take the time to reflect
on ideas that explain the outside world. The letter N represents Intuition. Intuitive type may be
concerned with what is new and doing new and different things. They see the big picture of things
and are constantly brain storming ideas. They would also rather gain understanding through insight
than through hands on experiences. The Letter S stand for sensing. People that are sensing are
really concerned with what they can actually see in front of them and approach situations with their
eyes open to the facts. The letter F represents Feeling, they are people that wear their hearts on their
sleeves. They

The heart is divided in to four different chambers, the Atria is the upper chambers of the heart,

The heart is divided into four chambers that are connected together by the valves of the heart, the
lower two chambers in the heart are called ventricles and are separated by a septum into the left and

The Lost Generation In The Lost Generation
Individuals of Generation X those born between 1963 and 1981 have seen the world around them
change in a variety of ways during their lifetime, from the fall of the Soviet Union to the dawn of
the personal computer. Some of these advancements directly affected their lives, while others
influenced their attitudes, opinions, and outlooks. Generation Xshould not be reflected as the lost
generation, but the generation that introduced technology embraced innovation and observed
tragedies that implanted fear across the entire nation.
I remember sitting in my fifth grade history class watching the live broadcast of the Challenger
liftoff and the devastating explosion claiming the lives of seven astronauts. We had previously
discussed the importance of the mission as teacher, Christa McAuliffe, earned her spot on the
mission for NASA s program Teachers in Space (History.com, 2010). I sat there trying to process
and understand what happened and we were not provided an explanation, it was more confusing
than shocking, Looking back if this happened today, I suspect schools would have dismissed for
the remainder of the day. At this time, it was an undeniably historical event for my generation. It
was supposed to be a moment of joy but quickly turned into one of the most defining tragedies of
this decade. This became the first national trauma for children, and America struggled with
providing an appropriate explanation for all the children who witness the horrific event on

Comparing Christian Bible And The Sky World Creation Story
There are several different theories as to how the earth came to be, there are similarities and
differences with some of them. It is very clear that there are indeed differences in the stories,
along with similarities. Many people are familiar with the Christian Bible version; the earth was
created in seven days, Adam was created then Eve from his rib. However, not nearly as many
people have heard of the Sky Worldcreation story. Both stories have a tree with something
forbidden about it. In the Christian story the character may not eat the fruit which grows from the
tree; in the Sky World story the character may eat all the fruit she wish, however, you may not
touch the roots or do anything to harm the tree. In both stories there is someone who rebels and
does what they were not supposed to with the trees. The woman in Sky World dug to find the
roots of the tree and she fell through the bottom of sky world; in the Bible story the fruit was eaten.
In both stories, the people were punished in some way. In the sky world story, the Skywoman along
with the animals created the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the sky world story, the woman goes to a new world and creates a beautiful, luscious land for
her children and descendants to grow up in. It is easy to see that the all powerful god in the
Christian creation story is a ruthless and unforgiving leader, whereas the creator of earth in the sky
world story was a loving mother and caring person. There isn t much realism in either story,
however, there are morals and it is easy to see the differences in morals. The sky world story
teaches forgiveness, patience, kindness, nurturing, and many other things that are valuable for
people to learn. In the Bible story, however, it is taught that if you make a mistake or are tempted
you should be punished horribly, it also teaches fear and that you should do as you re told because
you are afraid, not because you are a good

A Long Day s Journey Into Night And Birdman
Virtuous Ignorance? A Comparison of A Long Day s Journey Into Night and Birdman In the art
of storytelling, the artist tends to rely on a specific pattern of story development. This pattern, as
we have seen in the numerous literary examples that we have read so far, naturally conforms to a
rigid framework one that we, as humans, repeatedly desire. This framework was described by Dan
Harmon as the story circle , and mirrors the cyclical nature of our conscious perceptive capabilities,
as well as our understanding of the universe surrounding us. The story circle identifies (from the
perspective of the character or characters we primarily identify with) a submersion and re
emergence in some manner, whether journeying physically or... Show more content on

In the play A Long Day s Journey Into Night, the crossing of the threshold takes place as the
family strives to be whole. The pursuit of harmony captivates and empowers each member of
the Tyrone family, and the hope of true happiness drives them. Whether through the use of
forced optimism, blissful ignorance, or denial, the words and actions of the family are intended
to lift the fog of a broken past and enter into a new era of trust, support, and overall positivity.
Evidence of a broken, almost irredeemable past is made readily available to the reader, and one
gets the sense that despite all reason to doubt the intentions of the other, each of the Tyrones has
completely crossed into an attempted realm of newfound hope. As their past continually rears its
powerful and conspicuous head, a philosophical battle between existentialism and nihilism
continually fuels the crossing. James bashes his eldest son for his growing doubt of the success
of this new covenant, stating By God, how you can live with a mind that sees nothing but the
worst motives behind everything is beyond me! (O Neil 39). Likewise, Mary, in denial of the
severity of her youngest boy s illness, and Edmund, maintaining ignorance so as to maintain the
illusion of the possibility of wholeness, display their desperation in the following: You mustn t
cough like that. It s bad for your throat. You don t want to get a sore throat on top of your cold...his

The Problem Of Fraud And Its Effects On Society
Enlightenment thinker Giacomo Leopardi claims that [t]he combative spirit...derives from the folly
of human beings who will not accept the circumstances of life (Leopardi). In a society where
people value success over dignity, this lack of acceptance leads to the callous deception that causes
so much suffering today. This deception, found in contract fraud, means that the one soliciting a
contract benefits more than the one who signs it when the terms of the agreement are manipulated.
Fraud has become one of the top three causes of bankruptcy in America, along with medical bills
and job loss ( Top ). In fact, a 2015 study by the Federal Trade Commission found that 25.6 million
people had agreed to a fraudulent contract that year because they were not clearly given all of the
terms (Ramirez). The manipulation of contracts to gain an advantage in society implements
precaution that undermines trust and ultimately leads to increasingly apathetic individuals.
People exploit contract fraud to gain an advantage over others in our competitive society. People
who commit contract fraud consent to do whatever it takes to become their definition of
successful , regardless of the innocent people that suffer as a consequence. This could also come
in the form of a misrepresentation of services. An anonymous survey conducted by Harvard
University found that 52% of people surveyed lied on their resume to gain their desired job
(Badaracco and Useem). A resume is like a promise that one

The Threat Of The Tropical Cyclone
Introduction
Throughout the nation, natural, technological, and man made disasters jeopardizes communities as
a whole. Many people rely on their local communities emergency preparedness plans, while they
should be utilizing their knowledge, information provided for them, and using their capabilities to
ready themselves and their families. The outcome that can come from any disastrous event mainly
relies on how you respond to the specific threat, and the steps one takes to minimize the risks of
such a scenario. Being from Florida, I have been subject to several types, and forms, of disasters;
but the most common and the one that can pose one of the greatest threats is the tropical cyclone,
also known as the hurricane. When concerning this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many times, these choices can be based on their previous experience and their knowledge of
tropical cyclones. Many families, including my own, that has been a resident of Florida for a
multitude of years has experienced numerous storms and aware of their capabilities. Over the past
quarter decade alone, there have been severe landings that have stricken the Florida Coast line, such
as Hurricane Andrew in 1992, Hurricane Irene in 1999, and the four storms that landed in 2004,
Hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne.
All of these landings have convinced many people to seek further knowledge and to conduct better
preparation standards in the inevitability of another landing. In fact, Chris Landsea, through the
National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration Hurricane Research Division states, For
the U.S., the locations that have the highest chances are the following: Miami, Florida 48% (
2014). This means that every year Florida, Miami more specifically, has a forty eight percent
chance of being hit by a hurricane. With the high percentage of Florida possibly being struck each
year, many residents have possibly become disillusioned about the possible catastrophic damage
these storms can truly cause.
In addition to the residential firsthand knowledge, and reoccurrence of these natural disasters,
another aspect that can affect the decisions

Five Birthday Secrets
5 Birthday Secrets On our way from the professor s office, it was so dark in the streets I almost
tripped on the end of the sidewalk. Then I remembered that it was our Birthday today. I was so
excited because all of our family was there. Our house was all decorated with sports stuff, like
banners, streamers, and balloons all over. We both turned around and said HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
then JINKS. We had cake, ice cream, and all that stuff [even a soccer ball piГ±ata.] it was all so
fun. After the party while we were cleaning up uncle Dave reminded me about the Book [when
me and Hunter where about seven. My Mom and Dad, told us that when we tuned twelve we
would open The Book of Secrets] she ran into our bedroom, in the closet she found a box, in the
box was a lot of tissue paper and packing peanuts, she through that stuff aside and she took out the
box that held the book and brought it back to the living room. We opened it together, and there it
was that book that had cased all that commotion. Hunter opened it and papers after papers fell
out. We each took one, my paper said......Dear Asher sorry about the trouble, but you and Hunter
both have powers, yours are Invisible, shipshape into anything, stop time, go forward in time, go
back in time, super speed, super strong, teleport, go though anything, use fire, water, and air balls,
and control the weak minded. LOVE, Dad and it said BE SAFE all over. WOW! We went to bed
feeling confused, and powerful if you know what I mean. 6

Symmetric and Asymmetric Encryption

1. Introduction
When it comes to information and about this concept related to the digital medium, particularly in
the use of public computer networks like the Internet, various services relevant to human s
credibility in computing systems are performed. In fact, they are really important in the
fundamentals of security information that are defined by the availability, integrity, confidentiality,

Thus, it is essential that computational techniques are performed so that the requirements of
information protection are met. In this scenario are presented the two basic types of encryption,
symmetric or private key and public key or asymmetric.
2. Symmetric or Private Key Encryption
The oldest cryptography model, where the key,the element that gives access to the hidden message
exchanged between sender and recipient is equal (symmetric) for both of them and should remain
secret (private). Typically, this key is represented by a password, used by both the sender to encrypt
the message and the recipient to decrypt it.
Essentially, when the sender encrypts a message, it uses a cipher algorithm to convert the plain text
of the message into cipher text. When the destination deciphers a message, it uses the
corresponding deciphering algorithm to convert the cipher text back into a clear message. If an
intruder knows the cipher algorithm, s/he could just decipher an encrypted message as easily as the
destination. The solution in the use of private key encryption proposes that when the sender
encrypts a message,

The appeal of the Internet to these bodies was obvious, as it allowed disparate institutions to connect to each others computing systems and databases, as well as share data via E mail. The nature of the Internet changed abruptly in 1992, when the U.S. government began pulling out of network management, and commercial entities offered Internet access to the general public for the first time. This change in focus marked the beginning of the Internet s astonishing expansion. In addition to text documents, the Internet makes available graphics files (digitized photographs and artwork), and even files that contain digitized sound and video. • 5. Themes Of Death Of The Moth Throughout The Death of the Moth, the main theme is derived from the observation and recognition. By observing the moth s little movement to revive, Woolf recognizes the connection between life and death, and the receptive attitude towards the death. As a human, we usually do not really care or learn a lesson from a moth s behavior. We usually think a moth is a little, insignificant creature. However, as if our thoughts are wrong, Woolf highly values the moth s endless tries to avoid the death and through that, she conveys the moral of the essay. He flew vigorously to one corner of his compartment, and, after waiting there for a second, few across to the other (Woolf, 125). This sentencedescribes how the moth flies around the window with his trivial movement. That trivial movement becomes a base of Woolf s realization of the value of the death. Woolf discusses her observation of moth s movements and the death in details, using many adjectives that illustrate moth s eternal tries. In that sense, a question is raised: Why the writer describes her observations of the moth in details, rather writes about the moral and purpose more in focus? The above question can be answered by the purpose of this essay. As the story of the moth progresses in a consecutive order, Woolf s attitude towards the moth also changes. There was something marvelous as well as pathetic about him (Woolf, 126). This sentence clearly indicates the change of her attitude towards the moth. At the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Comparison Between Plato And Plato Over centuries theorists and philosophers and have been creating new ideas in order to help form society. The philosophers help determine why we obey, what morality is, how to create justice inside and outside society, the state of nature, equality, and the state of war. They distinguish how the people and government help create a well oiled society. Comparing Platoto Rousseau, the beginning of philosophy to a more modern perspective. In Crito by Plato, Socrates continues a speech of the Laws of Athens by appealing to a social contract that exists between the Laws and the citizens. By living in Athens, one must abide by the Laws of Athens. Since Socrates is in prison, if he were to try to escape he would be breaking the Law. Socrates lived in Athens following the Athenian Law up to this point. Socrates dismissed the possibility of exile, saying he would rather die than live outside of Athens. Though they offered the exile freely, to flee Athens when the Law no longer permitted him to do so. There is no reason or will for Socrates to break to Law now when he always agreed to follow them. The problem with this is that Socrates accusers have unjustly sentenced him by usig the Laws. The accusers viewed the Laws in their own perspective. By writing Crito, Plato hoped to distinguish them as a separate entity, making them something human toward which Socrates might be able to act unjustly. However, it may be hard to deem that the laws of a state from which the people who apply ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the preface of Let Us Now Praise Famous Men, Agee describes it as a curious piece of work. They were to produce an article on cotton tenantry in the United States, in the form of a photographic and verbal record of the daily living and environment of an average white family of tenant farmers, (IX). James Agee and WalkerEvans set out to write and photograph an article for a magazine, and ended up experimenting with the form of the novel itself. Agee and Evans set out to publish an article in Fortune Magazine, but when they brought back their work to the editors, they were rebuked. The article was over 400 pages of controversial writing and even various book editors refused to publish it as a novel. Finally in 1941 it was published by Mifflin in Massachusetts after the author was forced to take out a few outlawed words in the state. They failed in their original mission to produce an article, but undoubtedly presented a photographic and verbal record of the average white southern tenant farmer families. By living with three different families for four weeks, Evans depicted their innermost sorrows through his photographs, and Agee portrayed and emboldened their spirit by his written words. The novel itself was an experiment in form, with Evans photos all placed in the front without captions, rather than dispersed throughout the novel. Even in the text, Agee continually stops himself mid description and enters into a stream of consciousness describing the difficulties of articulating accurately the tenant families true expressions. For these reasons, it was considered a failure when it was published, but also for the same reasons it was considered an amazing success twenty years later in the 1960s. In the Preface, Agee conveys that this is a book only by necessity. More seriously, it is an effort in human actuality, in which the reader is no less centrally involved than the ... • 14. The Searchers By John Ford John Ford s 1956 film, The Searchers, is a classic Western tale set in the staked plains, post Civil War era. Like most of John Ford s Western films, The Searchers is also filmed in Monument Valley, Arizona/Utah. John Ford first introduces Ethan Edwards (John Wayne) returning on horseback to his brother, Aaron Edwards s (Walter Coy) house three years after the Civil War. Ethan is introduced to Martin Pawley (Jeffery Hunter), the adopted son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwards. The film moves forward when Rev. Captain Clayton (Ward Bond) volunteers Ethan, Marty, and a group of men to search for the Jorgensen s missing cattle. The search turns its tracks when the men realize that the Edwards family have been killed by the Comanche Indians, and Debbie (Natalie Wood) and Lucy (Pippa Scott) are taken by Scar. Although Ethan is the anti hero, him and Marty are the protagonists of The Searchers. Both Ethan and Marty s lives are flipped upside down and are now on a journey to save Debbie and Lucy. The antagonist, Scar, is possibly considered Ethan s alter ego because they share several similarities. Throughout the film, Ethan and Marty face many challenges accepting their background and issues. The overall meaning of the film is to let go of the past and accept what the future has to offer; John Fords use of paradigm, style, and themes drives the overall meaning throughout the film. Notably, John Ford s paradigm moves the overall meaning of the film by the structure of the events which take ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The statistics produced by the Bank for International Settlements show that about 58.5% of all over the counter derivatives are interest rate swaps and a further 4% are currency swaps. A swap is an over the counter agreement between two parties to exchange cash flows in the future. The agreement defines the dates when the cash flows are to be paid and the way in which they are to be calculated. Usually the calculation of the cash flows involves the future value of an interest rate, an exchange rate, or other market variable. The most popular (plain vanilla) interest rate swap is one where LIBOR is exchanged for a floating rate of interest. In this swap, one party agrees to pay the other party interest at a fixed rate on a notional principal for a number of years. In return, it receives interest at a floating rate on the same notional principal for the same period of time. Principal amounts are not usually exchanged in the interest rate swap. Take another popular swap as an interpretation for hedging and speculation, which is currency swap. In its simplest form, this involves paying interest on a principal amount in one currency and receiving interest on a principal in another currency. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Can Presidential Systems Work Effectively Within Deeply... Name: Amanda Raizis ID: 300306546 Tutor: Tim Webster Tutorial Time: Thursday 11.00 11.50pm Can presidential systems work effectively in deeply divided societies? [Make reference to at least two cases of your choosing.] Thesis Statement Presidentialism is a system of government in which the president is elected both chief executives and as head of government (Ogelsby SuГЎrez, 1968) and is the main system of democratic government apart from parliamentary systems. Presidential systems tend to centralise priorities of the government to stabilise society. Normally, they are classed into separate regions of power; where the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government are dependent on one another and cannot work effectively in deeply divided societies. This argument is ruled by the fact that they are 1) divisive, causing isolation between ethnoreligious groups. Elites are prioritised over minority working class groups and 2) inherently majoritarian, as only a single position is given causing proportionality to become impossible. In places such as Latin America and Northern Ireland, we see the ways in which these theories have proven ineffectiveness. However, presidential systems aim to separate powers in order to protect citizens rights and deter abuse of power for good governance overall. Through this presidential systems, however, have quick decisiveness in resolving societal issues. Without effective separation; executive, legislative and judicial powers, ... The old woman prompted up on her elbows and scooted as fast as she could towards the table, but the transgender rushed past her. Oh, help me, Jesus. Whooo, help me, Lord! Out of breath, the old woman rolled onto her back and huffed and puffed while looking at the ceiling. The fight continued on without her. Have mercy, Jesus. Knowing she needed the syringe to walk out of that room alive, she tried to get back into the fierce fight, reciting scriptures to build her strength. Help me get up, Lord. I m more than a conqueror. God, you have given me the authority to tread on these serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt me... All things are pos Someone kicked her in the mouth and brought her words to a stinging shut up. The transgender moved as fast as he could, but others were ahead of him. He stood and took a deep dive over the others, landing next to the businessman and rushed past him to get under the table. The businessman reached for his shirt, but grabbed his hair and pulled, his wig came off. He freaked out, threw the wig to the side and grabbed hold of the transgender s shirt. He turned on his back and started kicking his oppressor. The others continued fighting, they could see the syringe, some could even feel it with the tips of their fingers. They reached for it, but arms were snatched, pulled, held, bent and slapped away. The syringe was quickly swooped up, but a present danger awaited the college student who made it to it first. She rolled over and looked back to see everyone s eyes staring at her and instantly felt the intimidation of being the first one to make it to the syringe. In jeopardy, the rush to get from under the table was paramount. But even making it to her feet did not stop the pursuit of the others. In fact, it made it easier for them to attack her. It would be interesting to consider that the people who usually have bad eating habits, are the ones who actually can t afford to eat healthy. America has the highest obesity rate in the world, but who knows where we could be if the healthy food was more affordable and the junk food wasn t reasonably cheap. Even though New York City can be a dangerous place, I felt comfortable there. My view of Kansas is now forever changed. On that trip, I found out what I wanted to do during my adult life. My back was sore from waiting in the stiff airport chair. I sat there staring at all the travelers moseying their way to a seat or hurrying to their gate. Just a few hours ago, I was at school, eating lunch with my fifth grade class. Then all of a sudden, my mom was there saying I had an appointment she had forgot about. We shuffled across the tile floor to the office. I studied the orange fish in the tank by the secretary s desk, waiting for my sister. When she arrived, my mom took out her phone and held it up like she was going to take a picture. I raised an eyebrow in confusion. Geert Hofstedecreated a cultural framework based on five dimensions of psychology to offer some understanding of different cultural issues (Ahlstrom Bruton, 2010, p. 47). Applying the Cultural Framework Hofstede based his framework on five basic dimensions power distance, individualism collectivism, uncertainty avoidance, production orientation, and Confucian dynamism (Ahlstrom Bruton, 2010, p. 47). Some of these dimensions can be used to analyze some of the different cultural issues that affect HRM and explain why issues exist between cultures. • 39. Social Relationships Within The Media Industry Essay The way advertisers from the 1960s onwards responded to the causes of demassification of consumers began when the media industry was restructuring itself into smaller independent operating entities. The shift during this time formed large operating industry s into smaller lines of production meant that advertisers would have to change their focus from a mass audience into smaller groups of well targeted consumers. Leiss, Kline, Jhally, and Botterill refer to this process of identifying smaller target markets as one of demassification (309). Fletcher suggests, over the past four decades, this has led to a more diverse representation within advertisingas different groups have been identified as disposable income (129). Therefore, the process of demassification has uniquely caused social relationships within the consumer cultureduring the 1960s onwards. The 1960s marked a shift of consumer culture that became the process of demassifying , ... as social relations rooted in class, family and work were challenged by the fashioning of individual lifestyles in the expanded domain of consumer culture (Leiss et al. 295) Demassification during that particular time was increasing ad costs, but it also made advertisers look at what they get for their media expenditures. As Caffery suggested, demassification was building, so was the bill. When you combine smaller audiences with higher costs, alarm systems start to ring (13). These transformations ... The Japanese education system following the Rescript on Education served primarily to teach people what to think and not how to think; and as Edwin Reischauer stated, quot;Japan pioneered in the modern totalitarian technique of using the educational system for indoctrination and was in fact decades ahead of countries like Germany in perfecting these techniques. quot; Japan s education system was a tool in creating for Japan a reliable citizenry who respected the government and had the knowledge to act as quot;technically efficient clogs quot; in the new industries and administration that an industrializing state created. The ratification of the Meiji constitution drafted in the summer of 1887 and signed into law in 1889 helped create a stable constitutional order in Japan. The constitution was a gift of the emperor to the people and was made up of a complicated set of checks and balances between the emperor, his cabinet, and the Diet. The constitution although it granted voting rights to only one percent of the population in Japan was well received by the people and played a critical role in lending legitimacy to the oligarchy (Genro) who ran the government. Before the constitution the Genro had little basis in theory for their continued rule other then they spoke for the emperor. But the constitution with its elections and bicameral diet lender legitimacy to the rule of the oligarchy. The constitution also brought Japan at least in the minds of the oligarchy ... • 44. The Potential And Its Effects On Cancer Cells Limitless replicative potential is an acquired capability of many cancer cells, and it was listed as one of the original hallmarks of cancer [1]. It is mostly achieved by upregulation of telomerase, a reverse transcriptase DNA synthesis enzyme that maintains the telomeres length. Most tumor cells have a high level of telomerase activity but short telomeres due to prior divisions before achieving telomerase activating malignancies [2]. In contrast, normal progenitor cells and stem cells have relatively long telomeres and lower mitotic/telomerase activity, and in normal differentiated somatic cells telomerase expression is repressed. Thus, telomerase inhibition provides an attractive therapeutic opportunity because of its universality, criticality and specificity for cancercells [3]. Numerous strategies have been proposed for silencing this enzyme [reviewed in 2 3], but due to heterogeneity and complexity of cancers, as well as polymorphisms in human genomes, the search for effective and precise treatments for polymerase inhibition is still active. Nanotechnology is the latest evolving field, and its applications in cancer therapeutics have demonstrated great potential. Specifically, nanomedicine utilizes the advantages of nanodelivery systems [4]. The nanocarrier system is a new system for transporting biological molecules that has the advantages of being highly efficient, non immunogenic, safe, inexpensive, biodegradable, and stable [4]. After France showed they were selling this territory, an opening showed up for America. While Thomas Jefferson was president at the time; he wanted to make a presidential move and buy this important land. But there was a problem with this; Jefferson didn t know if this purchase could be constitutional since there was nothing about it. So after talking to congress they decided to come up with the 1803 Treaty of the Louisiana Purchase. After purchasing this land the United States doubled in size but also lost $15 million dollars. Born in 1875 he was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychotherapist who founded analytical psychology, of which Jung decided the central concept to be individualism. He thought that there were four basic principal functions by which we see the world, sensation, intuition, feeling, and thinking. He claimed that we use one of those senses is what we use most of the time. Each of the eight letters stand for different things in the Myers Briggs profile. The letter E represents Extraversion. The Lost Generation In The Lost Generation Individuals of Generation X those born between 1963 and 1981 have seen the world around them change in a variety of ways during their lifetime, from the fall of the Soviet Union to the dawn of the personal computer. Some of these advancements directly affected their lives, while others influenced their attitudes, opinions, and outlooks. Generation Xshould not be reflected as the lost generation, but the generation that introduced technology embraced innovation and observed tragedies that implanted fear across the entire nation. I remember sitting in my fifth grade history class watching the live broadcast of the Challenger liftoff and the devastating explosion claiming the lives of seven astronauts. We had previously discussed the importance of the mission as teacher, Christa McAuliffe, earned her spot on the mission for NASA s program Teachers in Space (History.com, 2010). I sat there trying to process and understand what happened and we were not provided an explanation, it was more confusing than shocking, Looking back if this happened today, I suspect schools would have dismissed for the remainder of the day. At this time, it was an undeniably historical event for my generation. It was supposed to be a moment of joy but quickly turned into one of the most defining tragedies of this decade. This became the first national trauma for children, and America struggled with providing an appropriate explanation for all the children who witness the horrific event on ... It is very clear that there are indeed differences in the stories, along with similarities. Many people are familiar with the Christian Bible version; the earth was created in seven days, Adam was created then Eve from his rib. However, not nearly as many people have heard of the Sky Worldcreation story. Both stories have a tree with something forbidden about it. In the Christian story the character may not eat the fruit which grows from the tree; in the Sky World story the character may eat all the fruit she wish, however, you may not touch the roots or do anything to harm the tree. In both stories there is someone who rebels and does what they were not supposed to with the trees. A Comparison of A Long Day s Journey Into Night and Birdman In the art of storytelling, the artist tends to rely on a specific pattern of story development. This pattern, as we have seen in the numerous literary examples that we have read so far, naturally conforms to a rigid framework one that we, as humans, repeatedly desire. This framework was described by Dan Harmon as the story circle , and mirrors the cyclical nature of our conscious perceptive capabilities, as well as our understanding of the universe surrounding us. The pursuit of harmony captivates and empowers each member of the Tyrone family, and the hope of true happiness drives them. Whether through the use of forced optimism, blissful ignorance, or denial, the words and actions of the family are intended to lift the fog of a broken past and enter into a new era of trust, support, and overall positivity. Evidence of a broken, almost irredeemable past is made readily available to the reader, and one gets the sense that despite all reason to doubt the intentions of the other, each of the Tyrones has completely crossed into an attempted realm of newfound hope. As their past continually rears its powerful and conspicuous head, a philosophical battle between existentialism and nihilism continually fuels the crossing. • 53. The Problem Of Fraud And Its Effects On Society Enlightenment thinker Giacomo Leopardi claims that [t]he combative spirit...derives from the folly of human beings who will not accept the circumstances of life (Leopardi). In a society where people value success over dignity, this lack of acceptance leads to the callous deception that causes so much suffering today. This deception, found in contract fraud, means that the one soliciting a contract benefits more than the one who signs it when the terms of the agreement are manipulated. Fraud has become one of the top three causes of bankruptcy in America, along with medical bills and job loss ( Top ). In fact, a 2015 study by the Federal Trade Commission found that 25.6 million people had agreed to a fraudulent contract that year because they were not clearly given all of the terms (Ramirez). The manipulation of contracts to gain an advantage in society implements precaution that undermines trust and ultimately leads to increasingly apathetic individuals. People exploit contract fraud to gain an advantage over others in our competitive society. People who commit contract fraud consent to do whatever it takes to become their definition of successful , regardless of the innocent people that suffer as a consequence. This could also come in the form of a misrepresentation of services. An anonymous survey conducted by Harvard University found that 52% of people surveyed lied on their resume to gain their desired job (Badaracco and Useem). A resume is like a promise that one ... Symmetric or Private Key Encryption The oldest cryptography model, where the key,the element that gives access to the hidden message exchanged between sender and recipient is equal (symmetric) for both of them and should remain secret (private). Typically, this key is represented by a password, used by both the sender to encrypt the message and the recipient to decrypt it. Essentially, when the sender encrypts a message, it uses a cipher algorithm to convert the plain text of the message into cipher text. When the destination deciphers a message, it uses the corresponding deciphering algorithm to convert the cipher text back into a clear message. If an intruder knows the cipher algorithm, s/he could just decipher an encrypted message as easily as the destination. The solution in the use of private key encryption proposes that when the sender encrypts a message, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
