John Stewart Daily Show Analysis
Not a Laughing Matter: The Negative Effects of Satirical News When Jon Stewart announced his
retirement from The Daily Show in 2015, headlines lamented the end of reason in the news. A New
Yorker article declared that The last hope for bringing some rationality to the 2016 Presidential field
died (Sorkin). In other instances, Jon Stewart has been compared to Walter Cronkite and Edward
Murrow, who are famed for not only their voices that reached out to the nation but also their
journalism that changed the tide of the politics of their time. One may ask how a professional
comedian ended up in the ranks of such well respected names in reporting, or how he came to be the
most trusted man in America in the first place. Jon Stewart began on The Daily Show, the satirical
news show, in 1999, using comedy to break down the nightly news to its audience. Stewart started his

Following the 2016 presidential election, this political action took the form of protest and marching.
The Women s March could be seen as an example of people motivated by fear and anger to go out on
the streets in millions to voice their disapproval of the other side . Reporting by satirical news shows
not only may have played a role in prompting the negative feelings but also explicitly encouraged the
protest. In The Daily Show episode following Trump s inauguration and the Women s March, Trevor
Noah celebrated the protest, saying, the one silver lining of a Donald Trump presidency; unity.
Everyone is teaming up against him . Words like these can have a strong influence on the millions of
viewers. They imply that not only should one be strongly against Donald Trump, but the best way to
voice this disapproval is not through productive discourse with the opposing side, but by teaming up

The Verbal Incongruity In Shakespeare s Othello
Shakespeare s plays depend to a great extent on incongruity. There are three sorts of incongruity
introduced in this novel. They are: situational, verbal, and sensational. Incongruity assumes an
imperative part in Othello. It makes anticipation, also adds enthusiasm to the story.
There are numerous cases of situational incongruity in this play. Cassio was the one Iago needed dead
or out of his position. Toward the end of the play, Cassio was the stand out that did not bite the dust
and Othello really advanced him to a higher position. At last Iago never finishes what he began to do
to give just desserts to Othello and take Cassio s spot. Both Othello and Iago treat their wives

Othello frequently said things that were really the inverse of Iago: O, thou craftsmanship insightful!
and Tis certain (Act IV, Scene I), Fair Iago . . . (Act V, Scene II), (Act II, Scene, III) and (Act I, Scene,
III), I know, Iago, Thy genuineness and adoration doth mince this matter (Act II, Scene III). These
lines are simply a couple of the humorous that Othello says to Iago. They demonstrate the trust that
Othello erroneously puts in his closest companion. Most things Iago says are humorous and he s
continually lying. Othello still thought of him as his closest companion yet Iago was the one and only
Othello trusted in spite of the fact that he was continually lying. He says, My ruler, you know I cherish
you (Act III, Scene II). This is an obtrusive untruth Iago does also would do anything to make his lord
s life hopeless. He doesn t love Othello. One line that Iago says is exceptionally humorous in a few
ways. He says, O, be careful, my master, of desire! It is the green looked at creature, which doth mock
the meat it encourages on (Act III, Scene III). This line covers numerous things in light of the fact that
desire is the reason Iago is selling out Othello and demolishing other people s lives in any case.
Additionally, desire is the thing that causes Othello to in the end execute his wife. Simply a short side

This article is about a custom made Louboutin shoe made to celebrate Disney s re release of the
famous story Cinderella on DVD and Blu ray in the autumn of 2012. The shoe is embellished with
crystal butterflies and has a sheer lace design with the iconic Louboutin red sole.
I had the idea of a custom shoe for my version of Cinderella. The glass slipper in Perrault s version
was one of a kind and that s the reason that we had a happily ever after. I would like to preserve that in

Computer Security and Data Encryption
DRM is a technology that protects digital content via encryption and the access control mechanisms
that allow a user to view the digital content. In general, to control what we can and can t do with the
media and hardware we ve purchased. 1. Historical perspective of DRM The practices of copyright
protection and DRM have been around since decades ago. In fact, when the Altair BASIC was first
introduced in 1975, the Homebrew Computer Club (a computer hobbyists club) member made
unauthorized copies of Altair basic software and distributed them at the club meeting. At that time,
MITS Company licensed the software from Micro soft (now Microsoft). Although MITS has been
selling thousand computers a month, Micro Soft wasn t getting much royalty fees since basic copies
have been distributed illegally. This led to the famous open letter open letter to hobbyists by Bill Gates
which he expressed his frustrations towards the hobbyists. In the letter, he said As the majority of
hobbyists must be aware, most of you steal your software. Hardware must be paid for, but software is
something to share. Who cares if the people who worked on it get paid? Is this fair? But the first
implementation of DRM only came about in 1983 by Japanese Engineer Ryoichi Mori and it was
implemented in Software Service System (SSS) which is later redefined as Superdistribution. The
main focus of SSS was to protect the unauthorized copying by encryption. The SSS would include a

Female Character Objectification Essay
If you were to ask a number of individuals what an empowered female character should be like,
chances are you won t get the same answer. As quoted by Amelia Richards, In this wave of feminism,
you re as likely to run into women who defend, enjoy, and create pornography as you are to come
across feminists who see pornography as the ultimate oppressor , meaning that in this day and age our
image of strong females has become expansive (Body Image p.197). Although there is no set
definition for what makes a female character empowering, I believe intelligence, compassion, and
durability are all qualities we like to see in strong female characters. Lately, I ve noticed video games
being criticized for encouraging gender stereotyping and female objectification.

The Venetian Laggon and Overfishing
In recent years, the Venetian lagoon has been under the threat of devastating over fishing. This tragic
exploitation of a resource is largely promoted by the fact that property rights in the lagoon are not well
defined (Rossetto, 2000; Nunes, Silvestri, Pellizzato, Boatto, 2008; Longo, 2003). This paper will
investigate the failure of current policies in the Venetian lagoon to promote a sustainable yield, and
aims to discover what variables of a successful common property regime are missing from the
Venetian case. The issue of common property regimes in Italy has been approached previously by
multiple economists. Casari and Plott (2003), and McKean and Ostrom (1995) have investigated
common property in the context of the unique case of the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme, a forestry
operation in northern Italy and successful common property regime which despite being a different
resource is faced with many of the same risks and struggles as those faced by regulators of the lagoon.
Conversely, Longo (2003) and Rossetto (2000) have addressed the failures of the current system in the
lagoon. To add to the analysis, this paper will synthesize this research to define what makes common
property regimes such as the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme capable of sustainably producing, while
the regime in the Venetian Lagoon ultimately results in devastating overfishing. In order to uncover
the conditions which allow for the exploitation of fish in the lagoon, I will examine the issue with a

Diet Soda Research Paper
For those of you who think switching from the real thing to diet soda will help in losing weight; you
are in for a rude awakening. More and more research is showing that not only will it not help but there
is evidence that artificially sweetened diet beverages could actually cause you to gain weight.
Researchers at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Medicine did a
ten year study of people who drank diet soda. They studied approximately 500 people and they found
that people who drank two or more diet sodas a day saw their waist line grow 70% more than those
who didn t drink diet soda.
As to why the drinkers of diet soda gain more weight needs additional research before the exact causes
are definitively determined. However, speculation as to the cause focuses on the effects of artificial
sweeteners and how the mind and body reacts to them.

Researchers divided the mice into two groups. Group A ate food laced with the sweetener aspartame.
After three months the aspartame group had higher levels of blood sugar than the mice that ate normal
food. There is also speculation that same is true of other artificial sweeteners even ones made from
sugar derivates or from the Stevia genus of plants.
Besides artificial sweeteners, it is further theorized that high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) has similar
effects on weight gain as artificial sweeteners. HFCS is preferred to cane sugar by food and beverage
manufacturers because it tastes similar to sugar, mixes well and is cheaper than sugar.
As ironic as it is, more and more mounting evidence is proving that sugar may be the more beneficial
sweetener when trying to lose weight. However, weight loss still comes down to consuming fewer
calories than you burn. As we all know sugar is dense in calories so if you absolutely have to have a
sweetener you may very well want to consider using sugar, but use it

Life presents questions to every person that experiences it. Many of these question will forever remain
unanswered. The social and psychological problems and questions that life throws at it attendants are
stressed by one of the mid to late 1800 s best problem play authors, Henrik Ibsen. Ibsen spend most of
his writing career exploring the human mind. He had a passion for the truth, and due to this he
conveyed his thoughts through writing. His time period offered many scenarios for him to write about
which still apply to today s society. One of these scenarios is the societal roles that given to people.

Society is forcing these brothers to work against each other, ironically for one main shared purpose.
Both of these stories show the affect that society has on communities and individuals, alike. The need
for specific people, such as Torvald and the Stockman brothers, to be what society wants them to be
creates conflicts that are larger than themselves. It creates problems with others. This is the result of
human doing what they do best, make mistakes. The human race evolves over time, both mentally and
physically. With these changes come new responsibilities and decisions. When people fail to fulfill
their responsibilities, conflicts arise. That is seen in these stories. This is a similar pattern as that of the
gender role throughout history. Women were seen as the more submissive gender. This is because
human beings made it this way. All of these conflicts and problems that are still to this day present are
because of humans. As a race, humans create problems between each other because they feel some
sort of unearned privilege to be better than others. Henrik Ibsen understood this concept; he loved to
explore the minds of humans. That is what made his writing so

Gary Paulsen s Nightjohn
In 1993, Gary Paulsen wrote the book Nightjohn. Nightjohn is a book set in the 1850s, during slavery.
It shows the thoughts and views of a twelve year old girl named Sarny. Sarny is a black slave girl, who
is uneducated, malnourished, and living life the best she can. Suddenly, a man by the name of
Nightjohn is brought to the plantation. Sarny traded tobacco for learning the alphabet from Nightjohn.
Nightjohn ran away one night, and was thought to never return, but actually he created a hidden,
underground school. Nightjohn could have been inspired by two interviews, Uncle Billy McCrea s and
Walter Calloway s. Nightjohn was influenced by real slave interviews. One of the interviews in the
archive is an interview from Uncle Billy McCrea. McCrea said, ...they d take them, hang them up by

practice religion on Sundays, something that Cel Waller would never allow. Calloway even thought it
wasn t that bad by saying, Dey treated us purty good. Calloway s recall of his slave times were similar
,yet different to Nightjohn.
Slave interviews helped Paulsen describe the cruelty of slavery. His uses of descriptive words and
phrases help readers visualize the torture the slaves had to endure. By choosing a young girl, he did
not only tell the tale of a young girl, but adults through her vision. It showed how human beings with a
different skin color can be treated like animals. Nightjohn put into words the struggle of America s

A Reflective Paper On Integration
Reflective Paper: Integration
There will come a day when facing a person who is suffering guilt or shame and their confession will
then require a process for helping. The Spirit of Truth must be central in that decision and thus the use
of Christian Psychology is my current integrative position.
Historic Foundation
Understanding human beings according to historic Christianity is a foundation of this view (Johnson,
2010 p. 155). There is evidence of psychology embedded in the wisdom of Scripture, as in Jesus
Sermon on the Mount and throughout the New Testament for Jesus dealing with sin and restoration.
The woman at the well, the woman caught in the act of adultery, and Saul/Paul are just a few
examples. In addition, our foundation is set upon an older model than modern psychology or even
classical philosophy.
Integrative Advantages
According to McMinn (2010), one of the advantages is the reflection of diversity and its implications
for counselors as we look through two lenses simultaneously (p. 4), those of tradition validity and
employment in advance of, but not to the exclusion of, empirical science and applied practice
(Johnson, 2010 p. 174). A second advantage is in that of the counselor who demonstrates the Spirit of
Truth, biblical traits of stewardship, shepherding and servanthood and acknowledges the importance
of their faith to their work. Third, as a relational model, the Christian Psychologist will interact with a
variety of other worldviews and operating

Case Mw Petroleum
3. Differences between APV and option valuation
Valuing MW Acquisition by using APV method assumes in practice that exploiting of all MW s
reserves is certain and happens right after the acquisition. In other words, the APV method excludes
the flexibility in future decision making. In this case, Apache has both an option to defer the exploiting
of reserves into future and Apache may also choose not to exploit the MW reserves at all.
As some of MW s reserves are actually real options, the APV valuation method actually
underestimates the real value of MW acquisition. If Apache defers the exploiting of the reserves, there
exists a possibility for the future cash flows becoming even more valuable. For example, Apache
could have more precise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is important to remember that the APV valuation and the option valuation calculations in
Exhibit 1 and 3 aren t straight forward comparable, since APV assumes financing the acquisition with
new $300 million debt and real option valuation is calculated assuming total equity financing. If the
tax rate remains constant, the real option valuation could be performed by taking the present value of
the tax shields into account. In this case the values obtained by real option valuation would be even
higher than the ones presented in the table.
As discounted cash flow method assumes all equity financed acquisition, it presents more comparable
value for the real option values shown. The value of Apache s possibility to decide whether to exploit
the reserves equals the difference between DCF value and the real option value.
4. Option valuation method
The future cash flows of MW s reserves contain a great amount of risk and have many possible future
outcomes. The real option valuation method takes into account the flexibility rising from this
uncertainty. Real options often are valued using financial option pricing techniques. However, there
are several things to be considered when treating reserves as options by using more specific Black
amp; Scholes model.
Firstly, there are some simplifications to be done to get all the necessary inputs for the Black amp;
Scholes model. One approximation to be made is the estimation of the

Introduction. The Bible Is One Of The Bestselling Books
INTRODUCTION
The Bible is one of the bestselling books in the world, for this reason it is incredibly important for
Christians and non Christians alike to examine the reliability of the text. Because the nature of this
paper is rather short, the historical evidence outlined will be brief and not all inclusive. This paper will
examine the writings and thoughts of many great people including Joshua McDowell, J. Walter
Wallace and William Craig. For the purpose of clarity when discussing the Bible or Scriptures this
paper is referring to the Christian Bible which totals of 66 Books. Additionally, the goal of this paper
is not to prove the Bible is the Word of God, a message from God, or inerrant, meaning without error,

Old Testament scribes copied each manuscript meticulously, counting every letter and comparing it
with the original (McDowell 1992, 50 51). If there was even a single error the copy was discarded and
they began anew. Not only were these manuscripts incredibly accurate they also were numerous. The
New Testament has over 24,000 manuscripts with the earliest copy dating about twenty five years
after the original (McDowell 1992, 52). In comparison, Homer s Iliad, one of the most historically
accepted manuscripts, has only 642 manuscripts with a 500 year gap between the original and the first
surviving copy. Since Homer s Iliad is considered reliable it seems the New Testament should also be
considered a reliable copy of the original.
SUPPORTING EVIDENCE #2
The reliability of the Bible as a historical document is the first form of evidence which points to the
reliability of the Bible as a whole. The most trustworthy records of history are eyewitness accounts,
writings of those who had a trustworthy source (such as an eyewitness), and archeological findings
(Bowman 1965, 15). The Bible has all three of these evidences present. For instance, Exodus,
Jeremiah, and Matthew are all examples of accounts written by firsthand eye witnesses. Luke and Acts
were written by Luke who was a friend of many eyewitnesses. Furthermore, even eyewitnesses who
were antagonistic towards Christians, such as Josephus, affirmed the truth

Analysis Of The Book The Fear And Loathing
Hunter S. Thompson s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas portrays the American political landscape as
one that is plagued by savagery and excess. The novel paints capitalism as something that emphasizes
and brings to light a potentially inherent ugliness in mankind, depicted through the simultaneous
contrived and organic nature of such a dominating system. The book s reaction to this system is a push
and pull, two way reflection, mankind and the system influencing one another and sharing similar
likenesses whether organic or socialized, culminating in Raoul Duke s very reactionary response to the
bleak and manipulatory nature of capitalism. The novel is full of various parallels, system and
individual behaving similarly and almost attempting to outdo one another but just culminating in a
circle of madness which Raoul Duke and his attorney attempt to yet can t reject outright or at all.
Raoul and his attorney exist in a political landscape that is vast, savage, and dominating, and through
their attempt to protest and compensate for such a painful system through the use of drugs and
excessive indulgence, turn out to instead be pained and flawed culminations of the system they are
trying to protest.
The whole plot of the novel begins with our protagonist sitting in a hotel lounge in Beverly Hills. He
receives a call from someone from a sports magazine offering him a job the logistics involve a

The Divine Comedy vs. Paradise Lost
Full Circle – from Sin to Salvation
Great works of literature have been written throughout history. However, The Divine Comedy and
Paradise Lost have the inept ability to stir the soul and cause a person to examine and re examine their
life. The brilliant descriptions, use of imagery, metaphor and simile give a person a vivid picture of the
creation of man and the possibilities for life in the hereafter. This is done, as a person is able to see,
full circle, from the beginning of time to the end of time, the consequences of turning away from God.
The ability to see a life full circle is apparent through the examination of both of these poems.

After a short hike, they arrive at ante purgatory, which was the area designated for those who died

American people. There were many advancements during this time because each country was trying to
determine which country was superior to one another. The medical and environmental achievements
were some of the most significant improvements in technology and they helped America prosper then,

After the war, the health of the children improved tremendously. Vaccines against polio, measles, and
rubella were developed. Polio is a crippling and potentially deadly disease that killed many people and
children. The first polio vaccine was developed by Jonas Stalk and came into use in 1955. The oral
polio vaccine was developed by Albert Sabin and people started using it in 1961. Measles is an
infectious disease causing fever and a red rash on the skin. The introduction to the vaccine occured in
1963. The vaccine helped eliminate hundreds and thousands of cases of measles every year. Rubella is
a contagious viral disease with symptoms like measles. It can cause fetal malformation if it is
contracted early in pregnancy. The rubella vaccine became available in 1963 and an improved one
came out in 1968. Measles, rubella, and mumps were all combined into one vaccine in 1971 called
MMR. By 1930, the life expectancy had risen to sixty years old, and heart disease had become the
number one cause of death. There is a range of conditions that affect your heart. Heart disease usually
refers to conditions that involve narrowed or blocked blood vessels that can lead to heart attacks.
Children obtained heart disease mostly by illnesses or genetic syndromes. There is a multitude of
treatments for heart disease: heart bypass surgery, cardioversion, pacemakers, heart transplant,

Aerospace Engineering
While the field of engineering is immensely broad, mechanical engineering is known to be one of the
most fundamental engineering disciplines as well as one of the oldest. Mechanical engineering
involves the design and study of objects or machinery and their motion. It includes the details of the
materials used to build these objects and the processes involved in the building. The discipline itself is
also a very broad area of study because within mechanical engineering are more specific studies such
as aerospace engineering, biomechanical engineering, mechatronics, acoustic engineering and thermal
engineering to name only a few. Each of the areas of mechanical engineering have contributed almost
limitlessly to every aspect of life although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mechanical engineering is the foundation for this area because it involves aspects such as propulsion
and dynamics (Long). Aerospace engineering consists of two main areas, aeronautical engineering and
astronautical engineering which focuses on the space aspect of the branch. The first major step in
aerospace engineering took place at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina in 1903 when the Wright brothers
flew the first powered aircraft paving the way for the advancements that came to be in such a short
period of time. Within a little over one hundred years, the aviation industry has gone from the first
flight lasting about 12 seconds at approximately 6 knots to having thousands of flights daily lasting
hours at a time at speeds in excess of 300 knots (thewrightbrothers.org). Aerospace engineering has
also allowed mankind to explore above and beyond our world. Thanks to space travel, scientists with
agencies such as NASA have been able to study more about our solar system and other galaxies with
spacecraft such as the space shuttles and telescopes such as the Hubble Telescope. Within the same
one hundred years, all of these accomplishments have been made. Therefore aerospace engineering is
an important branch of mechanical

Simvastatin
Simvastatin
Introduction
Simvastatin is used to lower the cholesterol level in the blood such as the low density lipoprotein
(LDL) and triglycerides and to raise the high density lipoprotein (HDL), It decreases the risk of heart
diseases and helps to prevent the heart attacks and strokes by reducing the amount of cholesterol that
is made by the liver (Raleys.com, 2015). Chemical structure and functional groups
Simvastatin is one of the statins derivatives that is synthesised from a fermentation product of
Aspergillus terreus. The simvastatin is an inactive lactone which is hydrolysed to the β hydroxyacid
form when it is taken orally. β hydroxyacid form is an inhibitor of 3 hydroxy 3 methylglutaryl
coenzyme A(HMG CoA) reductase. This enzyme ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mode of action
Statins are competitive inhibitors HMG CoA reductase, it has been considered as a first line for the
treatment of hypercholesterolemia. Their mode of action is by mimicking the substrate molecule
HMG CoA and competes for binding to the HMGCR enzyme. It works by slowing the production rate
of mevalonate which responsible for the production of cholesterol molecule.
Most of the cholesterol synthesis in the body is done by internal mechanism through the liver cells
particularly at night during fasting; it is taken at night to inhibit the cholesterol production. It
maximizes its inhibitory effect and the data shows a significant fall in the LDL and a fall in the total
cholesterol level in the blood.
Simvastatin can have different pharmacological effects from other statins groups due to different ring
structures and chemical side groups such as different affinity toward the receptors, different rates of
connection to liver cells from non liver cells, different bioavailability and biochemical metabolism and
execration. All these factors affect its half life which is short (Anon, 2015).
Statins are selective towards the hepatic cells because of their lipophilic properties. It passes through
the membrane towards the cell

The Cask Of Amontillado Analysis Essay
Analysis of The Cask of Amontillado In Edgar Allan Poe s The Cask of Amontillado , Wolfgang Iser s
theory can be used as a reader analyzes the way Poe depicts the narrator in the story. Iser s theory
states we [the reader] must suspend the ideas and attitudes that shape our own personality before we
can experience the unfamiliar world of the literary text (291) in one of his works called The Implied
Reader, meaning the reader approaching the text can only use the text to figure out the meaning it
gives out and must not bring in their own erudition. The narrator in the story says, The thousand
injuries of Fortunato I had borne as best I could; but when he ventured upon insult, I vowed revenge,
(Poe 3). The narrator does not describe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With that being said, the reader can put the text together by filling in the gaps left by the text itself,
(Iser 280) and conclude that the narrator is Montresor. A reader may use Stanley Fish s theory from
Why No One s Afraid of Wolfgang Iser to analyze the disposition that Poe inscribes Fortunato to hold
in the story. Fish s theory is different to Iser s theory and claims, There is no distinction between what
the text gives and what the reader supplies; he [the reader] supplies everything, (7), meaning that the
reader can add their own interpretation of the text from prior knowledge to find the meaning of the
text with evidence. The reader may be informed about Poe and how most of his writings were Gothic,
which had themes related to death and premature burial. The reader could predict that this story will
end with a character dying and make connections throughout the story. Fortunato is described by the
narrator as A man to be respected and even feared. He prided himself in his connoisseurship in wine,
(Poe 3). The reader gets an idea of the type of person that Fortunato is along with his personal
interests, and how that may affect the way Montresor gets revenge on him.

Not Belonging In Shakespeare s As You Like It
To belong is to have an affinity to a place or person. In this way, not belonging may be even more
important than belonging as often individuals must be alienated in order to truly accept and understand
their own identity. Such a notion is explored within the Shakespearean play, As you Like it, written in
1603. The text clearly illustrates the way in which not belonging to people, place and society is even
more important that belonging as it allows an individual to gain a heightened understanding of the
value of belonging and identity. Not belonging to people can lead individuals to gain a deeper
understanding of the value of belonging. As seen in As You Like it, several characters are forced to
experience alienation in order to understand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This idea is evident in the play as several characters who are isolated from The Court are able to
deepen their understanding of identity. Shakespeare uses the character of Duke Senior to illustrate
such an idea. The Duke is banished from the court by his younger brother and placed into exile in the
Forest of Arden. It is through this displacement into the natural world and his experiences in tongues
in trees, sermons in stones, books in running brooks and good in everything , that the Duke is able to
truly develop his identity. The personification of nature as the teacher implies that the Duke has been
taught about a new sense of identity. This demonstrates that the Duke s alienation from the court has
allowed him to become a part of the natural world and in turn enrich his own identity and sense of
self. In a similar way, the character of Jaques is able to deepen his understanding about the values of
belonging through his alienation from the court. However, this alienation is by choice not force. As the
rest of the group prepare for marriage with dance and food, Jaques chooses not to return to the court
believing he is for other than for dancing measures . This juxtaposition of behaviour illustrates to the
audience the deeper meaning Jaques is determined to find not only in himself but in a world away
from the court. Not belonging has allowed Jaques to understand the truth about the court of painted
pomp . The use of the alliteration highlights to the audience the realisation that Jaques has come to
about the artificial nature of the court. Shakespeare uses this melancholy character to demonstrate that
not belonging to a place allows an individual to gain a better perspective of the world and their
purpose on it. It is through the alienation from the court that the Duke is able to develop his identity as
part of the natural world and Jaques is able to gain a better

Analysis Of The Book Portrait Of The Artist
Ovid s Metamorphoses, having no set plot may at first confuse some readers, though it starts with
creation, it moves on the practices involving Gods and mortals and the changes they incur. The stories
seem to follow each other in time, but there are flashback s that show Ovid is not concerned with the
nebulas of time, instead he is showing the transformation s the characters go through. Passage of time
is not Ovid s point, but as he put in the mouth of Pythagoras, the only constant in the universe is
change. Ovid s character s changes are usually immediate, Athena changed Talos to a partridge,
Daphne was transformed into a laurel tree, and Echo, well was turned into an echo. There is often a
discontinuity of time, we know Echo wasted away, but how long that took is not important the theme
is, the often lack of the restraints of time is what makes mythology so easy to relate for any era. James
Joyce in his novel, Portrait of the Artist as A Young Man, ties his story with the semblances of
mythology from the story of Daedalus and Icarus, fusing the ideas that discovery, sacrifice and
rebellion is a process needed to be an artist. Though Daedalus and Icarus are from a mythical time and
Stephen is living in a specific time during Dublin s history, all characters are faced with the struggles
of existence, self discovery, and learning how to deal with one s own need for artistic freedom and the
disadvantages such gifts may pose. The path that each undergo, either by

Essay about Leslie Marmon Silko, “Lullaby”
American Mosaic, July 2011 FOCUS: Leslie Marmon Silko, Lullaby Lullaby is a short story that first
appeared in a book entitled Storyteller in 1981. This was a book written by Leslie M. Silko that uses
short stories, memories, poetry, family pictures, and songs to present her message. The book is
concerned, in general, with the tradition of story telling as it pertains to the Native American culture.
Lullaby seems to be a story of tradition, change, death, loss and the tensions fostered as a result of

the story there are quite a few conflicts. Some are internal between Ayah and herself and others are

Knights and Samurai are Far More Alike than They are Different Europe and Japan are 5,313 miles

two started out by both empires falling and then they both developed feudalism. I think it s crazy that
they two empires so far apart can be so similar, not only their empires but those who protect them. In
this essay I will discuss the feudal system, military similarities, and their feelings about death. The
knights in Europe and the samurai in Japan are extremely similar. The Samurai and Knights have
similar ways in their feudal systems. Document A shows us that the warriors are the fourth ones down
on the social pyramid. It also says that they both have the same jobs in their society. Both of the
empires developed a feudal system of ruling and gave their warriors the same job. Document B further

Immigration And Immigration Reform
Imagine that you are a senior in high school. You are nervous and excited to start the process of
getting a job and attending college. You obtain a couple of job applications and a Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to fill out. Naturally, as you fill out these forms you ask your parents for
your social security number, however, this is the moment you find out that you are undocumented.
Shocked and in disbelief, you can t help to see all your hopes and dreams go down the drain.
Nevertheless, like many other undocumented students, you discover there is still hope for your
situation. For instance, your research leads you to former President Barack Obama s Deferred Action
for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which protects minors who were brought to this country
illegally as children. Created through executive action in June of 2012, DACA gives young
undocumented immigrants: protection from deportation and a work permit. Subsequently, on
September 5th, 2017, the Trump administration rescinds the DACA policy, and approximately
800,000 young immigrants will become eligible for deportation at the end of six months. Therefore,
the only way to update our immigration system is for Congress to pass immigration reform, which
offers a pathway to citizenship, plus, acknowledge that the 14th Amendment applies to homosexual
conduct and illegal aliens.
Comprehensive immigration reform would have significant economic benefits for DACA recipients
and American citizens. In

Marriage Without Love in Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House
In his play, A Doll?s House, Henrik Ibsen shows a marriage built only on appearances, and not love.
Both Nora the wife, and Torvald the husband, pretend they are in love throughout the story. However,
love should be patient and kind, and their love is anything but that. Nora treats her husband as a father
figure. Her feelings towards Torvald are more about dependence than love. Torvald treats Nora like a
child or a pet. He gets very angry and frustrated with Nora, and he does not truly love her. True love is

took out the loan to save his life. Torvald just wants to order Nora around. His love is not true, but it is
an angry petty obsession.
Several critics also saw Torvald as controlling and obsessive. Each critic noticed the change in
Torvald?s personality when something was not perfect in his home. Clement Scott said, ?Helmer is
very angry indeed. He forgets all his affection and endearment; he can only think of his personality
injury? (222). Scott also said, ?Helmer?s attitude towards his child wife is natural but unreasonable?
(222). Besides being angry towards Nora, Torvald is also controlling. Forbidding Nora from eating
candy reveals Torvald?s controlling side. Edmund Gosse said, ? Her doctor and her husband have told
her not to give way to her passion for ?candy? in any of its seductive forms?? (220). He forbids Nora
from eating candy because he does not want her teeth to become rotten. This shows how shallow he is.
Torvald is so obsessed with Nora being perfect, that he really is not in love with her. ? Helmer only
sees the attractiveness of this love which lies intoxicatingly over her silent farewell?(Salome 229).
Torvald is mean, shallow, and does not truly love his wife.

Jack London To Build A Fire Analysis
Fire burns red hot, it s a source of warmth and in some cases comfort. In the story To Build a Fire by
Jack London, fire brings new feelings to a numb man every time he makes one. The man starts out
calm and uncaring to his surroundings and the cold, but be the time of the last fire he built, he was
panicking and distraught. As the fire thawed out the man s fingers and toes it also thawed out his heart
and made the man feel more than he ever wanted to. At the beginning of the man s journey before he
made a fire, he was undeterred by the cold, But all this the mysterious, far reaching hairline trail, the
absence of sub from the sky, the tremendous cold, and the strangeness and weirdness of it all made no
impression on the man (London 302). The man was just as cold on the inside as he was on the outside.
He kept his mind clear by staying focused and observant, Empty as the man s mind was of thoughts,
he was keenly observant, and he noticed the changes in the creeks, the curves and bends and timber
jams, and always he sharply noted where he placed his feet (London 304). By staying focused and

Revolution and Power Essay
What is a revolution? Is it a country declaring its independence or the falling of the bourgeois? Is it
brother fighting brother or the story of a nation emerging from its own ashes? Or is it neither?
Revolution is the story of change: changing of power, changing of governments, changing of minds.
Power has become an increasingly hard term to define, especially when it is so intertwined with some
of civilization s most dynamic aspects, people and technology. Technology changes power. It is
common knowledge to never bring a knife to a gunfight, or a gun to a bomb fight. In either scenario,
one would not wish to be on the losing end, and technology is setting the bar higher each day. But, as
stated before, power is intertwined with both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the adoption of the gun in warfare, kingdoms that either chose not to adopt the technology, or
simply could not afford it, did not fare well in combat against those kingdoms that did, making guns a
wartime necessity. But guns cost money, and the common people had the resources. Thus a majority
of Europe entered the age of debtors and the commodity of wealth. Guns were a large commodity
because of their high demand and the skill required in their construction. Kings became indebted to
their own people in their purchase of guns and, as a result, the dynamic of power shifted. As stated by
Adam Smith in his book Wealth of Nations , the wealth of a nation did not depend upon the amount of
gold in the king s treasury, but on the product of its citizens. With this redistribution of wealth came a
redistribution of power and the emergence of a new public sphere; one that was increasingly interested
in the political, economic, and social workings of their surroundings. Guns were not the only
technological revolution that changed the workings of power. The printing press was arguably the
greatest technological innovation ever created within the confines of historical media. Gutenberg and
his printing press made possible the concept of mass consumption. Word of mouth was always a
popular option for spreading knowledge and information but it was limited both by memory and
locality. Word could only travel so far before becoming incomprehensible, and

Similarities Between Ancient Greece And China Essay
1. Using three civilizations as examples, describe the concept of the Axial Age The concept of axial
age was introduced into the sphere of philosophical knowledge by German existentialist philosopher
Karl Jaspers for characterizing the period of ancient history during about the 8th to the 3rd century
BC. In this period of time we have developed a fundamentally new religious beliefs and doctrines that
promoted human and cultural values of the era. Jaspers described the Axial Age as an interregnum
between two ages of great empire, a pause for liberty, a deep breath bringing the most lucid
consciousness. Jaspers argued that during the Axial Age, the spiritual foundations of humanity were
laid simultaneously and independently in China, India, Persia, Judea and Greece. And these are the
foundations upon which humanity still subsists today. Consider, for example Greece, India and China.
Ancient Greece up to the 6th century BC was on a par with other civilizations by the level of spiritual
development. Hellenic culture range was one of those, whose coordinate system covers the problems
of family, God, nature and Eros. As a general rule, the mentality of this culture consisted the two
vectors Apollonian and Dionysian. Dionysian beginning was aimed at the satisfaction of the
instinctual needs, as opposed to the Apollonian, whose essence consisted of creative and scientific
elements. The widespread fall of the monarchy and the actualization role of the nation brought

Physics Of The Jsx 3222 Analyzer
The JSX 3222 analyzer is an energy dispersive fluorescent X ray spectrometer developed to analyze
cadmium (Cd) included in plastic and the electric wire film material, etc. promptly. The elements
range that can be measured is from sodium (Na) to uranium (U). Liquid nitrogen cooling for the high
performance detector is needed only during the analyzing time. The vacuum and atmosphere are
switched to the measurement atmosphere by the one button operation. When X rays (primary X rays)
are illuminated from the X ray tube to the specimen, fluorescence X rays having wavelengths
(energies) peculiar to the constituent elements of the specimen are produced from the elements.
There are two methods to investigate the energies. The first method is Qualitative analysis which can
be made by investigating the wavelengths of the fluorescence X rays and the other method is
quantitative analysis by investigating the X ray dose. One is for optical separation to them and the
other is to use the energy separation characteristic of the X ray detector. The former is called the
wavelength dispersive method an: the latter the energy dispersive method. The element analyzer
employs the latter method. As seen from the figure, since the energy dispersive X ray spectrometer has
no moving parts uses a simple optical system, its structure is simple and compact. And since the

How Has Christianity Impacted My Life
Ultimately, it was through the work of the early Church, Christianity had been able to have its
magnitude. It makes one wonder, what did they bring up that brought multitudes to Christ? Well, it
was a very simple tool that it is in the hand of every believer today the testimony. Their testimony and
our testimony centers around the Resurrection and the transformative power of Christ. Yet, what
makes each testimony unique is God s unique plan for everyone s life. Our lives and how God
intervened in them provides an avenue for us to relate to the struggles of others showing them that
God can change their life too. All my blessings and struggles have been beautifully woven into a

They clean up spills and messes. It is important that you have a good quality paper towel so you can

Paper towels were invented by a man by the name of Arthur Scott. He lived in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania at the time he was inventing it. He invented paper towels in 1931. Arthur Scott invented
it because he wanted to prevent the spread of illnesses and germs since back in the days they use to
have 1 cloth in public restroom which everyone would use. While I was researching on the internet
looking at commercials I have found that in other people s tests is that bounty is the most absorbent
paper towel. The fibers in paper towel make them to be absorbent. The thicker and more woven the
paper towel is the more liquid it will absorb and trap. All paper towels have air pockets and that is

  • 2. John Stewart Daily Show Analysis Not a Laughing Matter: The Negative Effects of Satirical News When Jon Stewart announced his retirement from The Daily Show in 2015, headlines lamented the end of reason in the news. A New Yorker article declared that The last hope for bringing some rationality to the 2016 Presidential field died (Sorkin). In other instances, Jon Stewart has been compared to Walter Cronkite and Edward Murrow, who are famed for not only their voices that reached out to the nation but also their journalism that changed the tide of the politics of their time. One may ask how a professional comedian ended up in the ranks of such well respected names in reporting, or how he came to be the most trusted man in America in the first place. Jon Stewart began on The Daily Show, the satirical news show, in 1999, using comedy to break down the nightly news to its audience. Stewart started his first year ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Following the 2016 presidential election, this political action took the form of protest and marching. The Women s March could be seen as an example of people motivated by fear and anger to go out on the streets in millions to voice their disapproval of the other side . Reporting by satirical news shows not only may have played a role in prompting the negative feelings but also explicitly encouraged the protest. In The Daily Show episode following Trump s inauguration and the Women s March, Trevor Noah celebrated the protest, saying, the one silver lining of a Donald Trump presidency; unity. Everyone is teaming up against him . Words like these can have a strong influence on the millions of viewers. They imply that not only should one be strongly against Donald Trump, but the best way to voice this disapproval is not through productive discourse with the opposing side, but by teaming up against ... • 3. The Verbal Incongruity In Shakespeare s Othello Shakespeare s plays depend to a great extent on incongruity. There are three sorts of incongruity introduced in this novel. They are: situational, verbal, and sensational. Incongruity assumes an imperative part in Othello. It makes anticipation, also adds enthusiasm to the story. There are numerous cases of situational incongruity in this play. Cassio was the one Iago needed dead or out of his position. Toward the end of the play, Cassio was the stand out that did not bite the dust and Othello really advanced him to a higher position. At last Iago never finishes what he began to do to give just desserts to Othello and take Cassio s spot. Both Othello and Iago treat their wives horrendously. Both slaughtered their wives even through their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Othello frequently said things that were really the inverse of Iago: O, thou craftsmanship insightful! and Tis certain (Act IV, Scene I), Fair Iago . . . (Act V, Scene II), (Act II, Scene, III) and (Act I, Scene, III), I know, Iago, Thy genuineness and adoration doth mince this matter (Act II, Scene III). These lines are simply a couple of the humorous that Othello says to Iago. They demonstrate the trust that Othello erroneously puts in his closest companion. Most things Iago says are humorous and he s continually lying. Othello still thought of him as his closest companion yet Iago was the one and only Othello trusted in spite of the fact that he was continually lying. He says, My ruler, you know I cherish you (Act III, Scene II). This is an obtrusive untruth Iago does also would do anything to make his lord s life hopeless. He doesn t love Othello. One line that Iago says is exceptionally humorous in a few ways. He says, O, be careful, my master, of desire! It is the green looked at creature, which doth mock the meat it encourages on (Act III, Scene III). This line covers numerous things in light of the fact that desire is the reason Iago is selling out Othello and demolishing other people s lives in any case. Additionally, desire is the thing that causes Othello to in the end execute his wife. Simply a short side note, the illustration ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This article is about a custom made Louboutin shoe made to celebrate Disney s re release of the famous story Cinderella on DVD and Blu ray in the autumn of 2012. • 5. Computer Security and Data Encryption DRM is a technology that protects digital content via encryption and the access control mechanisms that allow a user to view the digital content. In general, to control what we can and can t do with the media and hardware we ve purchased. 1. Historical perspective of DRM The practices of copyright protection and DRM have been around since decades ago. In fact, when the Altair BASIC was first introduced in 1975, the Homebrew Computer Club (a computer hobbyists club) member made unauthorized copies of Altair basic software and distributed them at the club meeting. At that time, MITS Company licensed the software from Micro soft (now Microsoft). Although MITS has been selling thousand computers a month, Micro Soft wasn t getting much royalty fees since basic copies have been distributed illegally. This led to the famous open letter open letter to hobbyists by Bill Gates which he expressed his frustrations towards the hobbyists. In the letter, he said As the majority of hobbyists must be aware, most of you steal your software. Hardware must be paid for, but software is something to share. Who cares if the people who worked on it get paid? Is this fair? But the first implementation of DRM only came about in 1983 by Japanese Engineer Ryoichi Mori and it was implemented in Software Service System (SSS) which is later redefined as Superdistribution. The main focus of SSS was to protect the unauthorized copying by encryption. The SSS would include a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As quoted by Amelia Richards, In this wave of feminism, you re as likely to run into women who defend, enjoy, and create pornography as you are to come across feminists who see pornography as the ultimate oppressor , meaning that in this day and age our image of strong females has become expansive (Body Image p.197). Although there is no set definition for what makes a female character empowering, I believe intelligence, compassion, and durability are all qualities we like to see in strong female characters. Lately, I ve noticed video games being criticized for encouraging gender stereotyping and female objectification. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Venetian Laggon and Overfishing In recent years, the Venetian lagoon has been under the threat of devastating over fishing. This tragic exploitation of a resource is largely promoted by the fact that property rights in the lagoon are not well defined (Rossetto, 2000; Nunes, Silvestri, Pellizzato, Boatto, 2008; Longo, 2003). This paper will investigate the failure of current policies in the Venetian lagoon to promote a sustainable yield, and aims to discover what variables of a successful common property regime are missing from the Venetian case. The issue of common property regimes in Italy has been approached previously by multiple economists. Casari and Plott (2003), and McKean and Ostrom (1995) have investigated common property in the context of the unique case of the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme, a forestry operation in northern Italy and successful common property regime which despite being a different resource is faced with many of the same risks and struggles as those faced by regulators of the lagoon. Conversely, Longo (2003) and Rossetto (2000) have addressed the failures of the current system in the lagoon. To add to the analysis, this paper will synthesize this research to define what makes common property regimes such as the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme capable of sustainably producing, while the regime in the Venetian Lagoon ultimately results in devastating overfishing. In order to uncover the conditions which allow for the exploitation of fish in the lagoon, I will examine the issue with a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

More and more research is showing that not only will it not help but there is evidence that artificially sweetened diet beverages could actually cause you to gain weight. Researchers at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Medicine did a ten year study of people who drank diet soda. They studied approximately 500 people and they found that people who drank two or more diet sodas a day saw their waist line grow 70% more than those who didn t drink diet soda. As to why the drinkers of diet soda gain more weight needs additional research before the exact causes are definitively determined. Researchers divided the mice into two groups. Group A ate food laced with the sweetener aspartame. After three months the aspartame group had higher levels of blood sugar than the mice that ate normal food. There is also speculation that same is true of other artificial sweeteners even ones made from sugar derivates or from the Stevia genus of plants. Besides artificial sweeteners, it is further theorized that high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) has similar effects on weight gain as artificial sweeteners. HFCS is preferred to cane sugar by food and beverage manufacturers because it tastes similar to sugar, mixes well and is cheaper than sugar. As ironic as it is, more and more mounting evidence is proving that sugar may be the more beneficial sweetener when trying to lose weight. These are all that I d heard about New Orleans before I came to this city. A month has passed since I arrived to New Orleans, and I experienced more than I d knew. But still, although I was aware of the fact that what I had experienced until now are not everything about New Orleans, I was surprised when I learned about the new aspects of New Orleans through the service work, class, and the lecture of guest speaker. What primarily provoked me was the ambivalent situation in New Orleans. Even before I came to Tulane, while looking around several places in New Orleans with my mother, I found that there is a huge discrepancy between the areas. Many of these question will forever remain unanswered. The social and psychological problems and questions that life throws at it attendants are stressed by one of the mid to late 1800 s best problem play authors, Henrik Ibsen. Ibsen spend most of his writing career exploring the human mind. He had a passion for the truth, and due to this he conveyed his thoughts through writing. (An Enemy of the People, p. 30).The majority follows what Peter has to say, seeing as how society has placed him in a leadership role. The minority follow the doctor. Now, both aspects of the conflict are in full blast. Society is forcing these brothers to work against each other, ironically for one main shared purpose. Both of these stories show the affect that society has on communities and individuals, alike. The need for specific people, such as Torvald and the Stockman brothers, to be what society wants them to be creates conflicts that are larger than themselves. It creates problems with others. This is the result of human doing what they do best, make mistakes. The human race evolves over time, both mentally and physically. With these changes come new responsibilities and decisions. When people fail to fulfill their responsibilities, conflicts arise. That is seen in these stories. This is a similar pattern as that of the gender role throughout history. Women were seen as the more submissive gender. This is because human beings made it this way. All of these conflicts and problems that are still to this day present are because of humans. As a race, humans create problems between each other because they feel some sort of unearned privilege to be better than others. • 13. Gary Paulsen s Nightjohn In 1993, Gary Paulsen wrote the book Nightjohn. Nightjohn is a book set in the 1850s, during slavery. It shows the thoughts and views of a twelve year old girl named Sarny. Sarny is a black slave girl, who is uneducated, malnourished, and living life the best she can. Suddenly, a man by the name of Nightjohn is brought to the plantation. Sarny traded tobacco for learning the alphabet from Nightjohn. Nightjohn ran away one night, and was thought to never return, but actually he created a hidden, underground school. Nightjohn could have been inspired by two interviews, Uncle Billy McCrea s and Walter Calloway s. Nightjohn was influenced by real slave interviews. • 14. A Reflective Paper On Integration Reflective Paper: Integration There will come a day when facing a person who is suffering guilt or shame and their confession will then require a process for helping. The Spirit of Truth must be central in that decision and thus the use of Christian Psychology is my current integrative position. Historic Foundation Understanding human beings according to historic Christianity is a foundation of this view (Johnson, 2010 p. 155). There is evidence of psychology embedded in the wisdom of Scripture, as in Jesus Sermon on the Mount and throughout the New Testament for Jesus dealing with sin and restoration. The woman at the well, the woman caught in the act of adultery, and Saul/Paul are just a few examples. In addition, our foundation is set upon an older model than modern psychology or even classical philosophy. Integrative Advantages According to McMinn (2010), one of the advantages is the reflection of diversity and its implications for counselors as we look through two lenses simultaneously (p. 4), those of tradition validity and employment in advance of, but not to the exclusion of, empirical science and applied practice (Johnson, 2010 p. 174). A second advantage is in that of the counselor who demonstrates the Spirit of Truth, biblical traits of stewardship, shepherding and servanthood and acknowledges the importance of their faith to their work. Third, as a relational model, the Christian Psychologist will interact with a variety of other worldviews and operating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As some of MW s reserves are actually real options, the APV valuation method actually underestimates the real value of MW acquisition. If Apache defers the exploiting of the reserves, there exists a possibility for the future cash flows becoming even more valuable. For example, Apache could have more precise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it is important to remember that the APV valuation and the option valuation calculations in Exhibit 1 and 3 aren t straight forward comparable, since APV assumes financing the acquisition with new $300 million debt and real option valuation is calculated assuming total equity financing. If the tax rate remains constant, the real option valuation could be performed by taking the present value of the tax shields into account. In this case the values obtained by real option valuation would be even higher than the ones presented in the table. As discounted cash flow method assumes all equity financed acquisition, it presents more comparable value for the real option values shown. The value of Apache s possibility to decide whether to exploit the reserves equals the difference between DCF value and the real option value. 4. Option valuation method The future cash flows of MW s reserves contain a great amount of risk and have many possible future outcomes. The real option valuation method takes into account the flexibility rising from this uncertainty. Real options often are valued using financial option pricing techniques. However, there are several things to be considered when treating reserves as options by using more specific Black amp; Scholes model. The Bible Is One Of The Bestselling Books INTRODUCTION The Bible is one of the bestselling books in the world, for this reason it is incredibly important for Christians and non Christians alike to examine the reliability of the text. Because the nature of this paper is rather short, the historical evidence outlined will be brief and not all inclusive. This paper will examine the writings and thoughts of many great people including Joshua McDowell, J. Walter Wallace and William Craig. For the purpose of clarity when discussing the Bible or Scriptures this paper is referring to the Christian Bible which totals of 66 Books. If there was even a single error the copy was discarded and they began anew. Not only were these manuscripts incredibly accurate they also were numerous. The New Testament has over 24,000 manuscripts with the earliest copy dating about twenty five years after the original (McDowell 1992, 52). In comparison, Homer s Iliad, one of the most historically accepted manuscripts, has only 642 manuscripts with a 500 year gap between the original and the first surviving copy. Since Homer s Iliad is considered reliable it seems the New Testament should also be considered a reliable copy of the original. SUPPORTING EVIDENCE #2 The reliability of the Bible as a historical document is the first form of evidence which points to the reliability of the Bible as a whole. The most trustworthy records of history are eyewitness accounts, writings of those who had a trustworthy source (such as an eyewitness), and archeological findings (Bowman 1965, 15). The Bible has all three of these evidences present. For instance, Exodus, Jeremiah, and Matthew are all examples of accounts written by firsthand eye witnesses. Luke and Acts were written by Luke who was a friend of many eyewitnesses. Furthermore, even eyewitnesses who were antagonistic towards Christians, such as Josephus, affirmed the truth ... The novel paints capitalism as something that emphasizes and brings to light a potentially inherent ugliness in mankind, depicted through the simultaneous contrived and organic nature of such a dominating system. The book s reaction to this system is a push and pull, two way reflection, mankind and the system influencing one another and sharing similar likenesses whether organic or socialized, culminating in Raoul Duke s very reactionary response to the bleak and manipulatory nature of capitalism. The novel is full of various parallels, system and individual behaving similarly and almost attempting to outdo one another but just culminating in a circle of madness which Raoul Duke and his attorney attempt to yet can t reject outright or at all. In this way, not belonging may be even more important than belonging as often individuals must be alienated in order to truly accept and understand their own identity. Such a notion is explored within the Shakespearean play, As you Like it, written in 1603. The text clearly illustrates the way in which not belonging to people, place and society is even more important that belonging as it allows an individual to gain a heightened understanding of the value of belonging and identity. Not belonging to people can lead individuals to gain a deeper understanding of the value of belonging. This idea is evident in the play as several characters who are isolated from The Court are able to deepen their understanding of identity. Shakespeare uses the character of Duke Senior to illustrate such an idea. The Duke is banished from the court by his younger brother and placed into exile in the Forest of Arden. It is through this displacement into the natural world and his experiences in tongues in trees, sermons in stones, books in running brooks and good in everything , that the Duke is able to truly develop his identity. The personification of nature as the teacher implies that the Duke has been taught about a new sense of identity. This demonstrates that the Duke s alienation from the court has allowed him to become a part of the natural world and in turn enrich his own identity and sense of self. In a similar way, the character of Jaques is able to deepen his understanding about the values of belonging through his alienation from the court. However, this alienation is by choice not force. As the rest of the group prepare for marriage with dance and food, Jaques chooses not to return to the court believing he is for other than for dancing measures . This juxtaposition of behaviour illustrates to the audience the deeper meaning Jaques is determined to find not only in himself but in a world away from the court. Not belonging has allowed Jaques to understand the truth about the court of painted pomp . The use of the alliteration highlights to the audience the realisation that Jaques has come to about the artificial nature of the court. Shakespeare uses this melancholy character to demonstrate that not belonging to a place allows an individual to gain a better perspective of the world and their purpose on it. The stories seem to follow each other in time, but there are flashback s that show Ovid is not concerned with the nebulas of time, instead he is showing the transformation s the characters go through. Passage of time is not Ovid s point, but as he put in the mouth of Pythagoras, the only constant in the universe is change. Ovid s character s changes are usually immediate, Athena changed Talos to a partridge, Daphne was transformed into a laurel tree, and Echo, well was turned into an echo. There is often a discontinuity of time, we know Echo wasted away, but how long that took is not important the theme is, the often lack of the restraints of time is what makes mythology so easy to relate for any era. James Joyce in his novel, Portrait of the Artist as A Young Man, ties his story with the semblances of mythology from the story of Daedalus and Icarus, fusing the ideas that discovery, sacrifice and rebellion is a process needed to be an artist. Though Daedalus and Icarus are from a mythical time and Stephen is living in a specific time during Dublin s history, all characters are faced with the struggles of existence, self discovery, and learning how to deal with one s own need for artistic freedom and the disadvantages such gifts may pose. • 34. Similarities Between Ancient Greece And China Essay 1. Using three civilizations as examples, describe the concept of the Axial Age The concept of axial age was introduced into the sphere of philosophical knowledge by German existentialist philosopher Karl Jaspers for characterizing the period of ancient history during about the 8th to the 3rd century BC. In this period of time we have developed a fundamentally new religious beliefs and doctrines that promoted human and cultural values of the era. Jaspers described the Axial Age as an interregnum between two ages of great empire, a pause for liberty, a deep breath bringing the most lucid consciousness. Jaspers argued that during the Axial Age, the spiritual foundations of humanity were laid simultaneously and independently in China, India, Persia, Judea and Greece. And these are the foundations upon which humanity still subsists today. Consider, for example Greece, India and China. Ancient Greece up to the 6th century BC was on a par with other civilizations by the level of spiritual development. Hellenic culture range was one of those, whose coordinate system covers the problems of family, God, nature and Eros. As a general rule, the mentality of this culture consisted the two vectors Apollonian and Dionysian. Dionysian beginning was aimed at the satisfaction of the instinctual needs, as opposed to the Apollonian, whose essence consisted of creative and scientific elements. The widespread fall of the monarchy and the actualization role of the nation brought Hellenic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Physics Of The Jsx 3222 Analyzer The JSX 3222 analyzer is an energy dispersive fluorescent X ray spectrometer developed to analyze cadmium (Cd) included in plastic and the electric wire film material, etc. promptly. The elements range that can be measured is from sodium (Na) to uranium (U). Liquid nitrogen cooling for the high performance detector is needed only during the analyzing time. The vacuum and atmosphere are switched to the measurement atmosphere by the one button operation. When X rays (primary X rays) are illuminated from the X ray tube to the specimen, fluorescence X rays having wavelengths (energies) peculiar to the constituent elements of the specimen are produced from the elements. There are two methods to investigate the energies. The first method is Qualitative analysis which can be made by investigating the wavelengths of the fluorescence X rays and the other method is quantitative analysis by investigating the X ray dose. One is for optical separation to them and the other is to use the energy separation characteristic of the X ray detector. The former is called the wavelength dispersive method an: the latter the energy dispersive method. The element analyzer employs the latter method. As seen from the figure, since the energy dispersive X ray spectrometer has no moving parts uses a simple optical system, its structure is simple and compact. And since the detector can be installed the specimen, the X ray solid angle of collection can be made large, thus presenting many features such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. How Has Christianity Impacted My Life Ultimately, it was through the work of the early Church, Christianity had been able to have its magnitude. It makes one wonder, what did they bring up that brought multitudes to Christ? Well, it was a very simple tool that it is in the hand of every believer today the testimony. Their testimony and our testimony centers around the Resurrection and the transformative power of Christ. Yet, what makes each testimony unique is God s unique plan for everyone s life. Our lives and how God intervened in them provides an avenue for us to relate to the struggles of others showing them that God can change their life too. All my blessings and struggles have been beautifully woven into a testimony that I can share with those that need to hear the Gospel, yet there wouldn t be a testimony if God didn t save my life. ... Yet, I was still able to have exposure to Christ from my God fearing parents and my Catholic school. Eventually, due to the conviction in my parents hearts, we found a church home. From there on, I could receive the Word in a church setting regularly. As time went on, I matured in my faith and became fond of the things of God. I wanted to discover him and understand why I believed in Him. In my early high school years, I talked about Him with my friends for I had a passion for Him. Arthur Scott invented it because he wanted to prevent the spread of illnesses and germs since back in the days they use to have 1 cloth in public restroom which everyone would use. While I was researching on the internet looking at commercials I have found that in other people s tests is that bounty is the most absorbent paper towel. The fibers in paper towel make them to be absorbent. The thicker and more woven the paper towel is the more liquid it will absorb and trap. All paper towels have air pockets and that is where the liquid will go in order to be absorbed. Air pockets get formed when factories stamp shapes in the paper towel to give it a quilted look. ...
