Close ups show a character's face or shoulders to display emotion without "floating head syndrome". Extreme close ups focus on a specific body part and give intimacy but should be used sparingly. Medium shots contain the subject from the waist up and are good for dialogue but lack detail. Establishing shots provide context of the environment while point of view shots see through a character's eyes to increase identification. Camera angles that look down make subjects seem less important while looking up enhances their importance.
