This document provides an introduction and background for a research project exploring how language is used differently to represent celebrity status in high-end fashion magazines versus gossip magazines. Specifically, it will compare interviews of one celebrity in Vogue UK and OK! magazine. The research aims to explore language and gender as well as language and power theories. It seeks to discover how language use differs for females in different magazine types. The goal is to compare how magazine status affects celebrity representation through a synchronic analysis of language exemplification in one-time interviews.
