Goblin Market Sisterhood Essay
On the other hand, in the essay, The Potential of Sisterhood: Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market a

been known for a long time for the significance of sisterhood in the poem. Feminist readings of the
poem were focused on the theme of sisterhood as an attempt to argued that Rossetti has created a
world that excludes men. Casey argues that there is more meaning to the terms of sisterhood in the
quote, For these critics, the term sisterhood marks a reaffirmation of the potentialities of women for
independence and productivity.... In reducing the concept of sisterhood to a single unwavering level of

Nfl Case Study Abroad
I respectfully request that you seriously consider adding a team in England. This expansion has the
potential to add the International revenue that the owner s and business people alike are seeking. Mark
Waller, the executive vice president in charge of the NFL s international initiatives, has repeatedly said
that he truly believes that within the next 5 10 years we could have a team up and running in England.
The world has changed drastically over the last decade, and reaching beyond the borders of the United
States would financially outweigh the negative problems that I will outline below.
Prior to 2005, the NFL s primary method of promoting its game abroad was through the American

How do we convince existing NFL fans to switch allegiance to a new London based team? I don t
think you can accomplish this with the time zone and the deep roots fans have for their home town
teams. The Logistics of such a move would definitely hinder somethings. Money aside, an NFL
season is 16 games long over a 17 week period. That s eight games at Wembley, and it s not only the
fans that would have to put in the mileage, it s the players too. Now, London is some distance from the
US: 3,459 miles. While travelling from America s East Coast would provide minimal problems,
travelling from the West Coast back to England would take two days out of an already hectic week.
This would definitely create a competitive disadvantage for a team that had to travel from the west
coast for this game. Lastly, there is the issue having no team that would make this move at this time.
The closes team in the thought process would be the Jacksonville Jaguars, and that is solely because of
the owner and the dwindling fan base. They are scheduled to play one game their each of the next four
years, a test to see if the fan base can be created and sustained in a country known for what they call

Analysis Of The New Jim Crow
Stories that go untold are often never heard and forgotten through time. The author of The New Jim
Crow, Michelle Alexander, by writing her book understandingly so went out of her way to document
the stories and pain of millions of minorities, whom in the land of the free are instead forced into
undoubtful imprisonment. Alexander has spent most of her life fighting racial injustice and teaching
about civil rights. A graduate from Stanford Law School and Vanderbilt University, Michelle
Alexander became a civil rights lawyer and legal scholar. She has dedicated her life to fighting the
racial bias in the criminal justice system and ending mass incarceration, devoting much of her time to
writing about and spreading the awareness of the racial caste system that we are currently in. In
addition, Alexander has spent several years as the director of the Racial Justice Project at the ACLU of
Northern California, which also lead a national campaign against racial profiling by law enforcement
(NewJimCrow.com). In her work, The New Jim crow, Alexander cautiously argues that from the
beginning of the United States all the way to its first foundations, can one find that the foundations
were layered upon a racial caste system to which just like the United States Constitution, can
essentially adapt overtime and exploit the original undercaste of minorities that were its earliest
victims; while her book is well supported through her informative use of historical facts and events,

inclusion criteria. The thirty six children were randomly placed into one of three groups: Modified
Adeli Suit therapy, Adeli Suit therapy, and Neurodevelopmental therapy, and each child received their
assigned therapy for two hours a day, five days a week for four weeks (Mahani, Karmiloo, Amirsalari,
2011). The AST group received one hour of prep work, and the second hour was spent wearing the
suit where they completed vigorous exercises. In the NDT group, the children spent the entire two
hours performing passive and active movements. Lastly, the MSAT group conducted movements
similar to the NDT group, during the first hour, and spent the second hour in the suit, where they
performed fun and meaningful goal based activities. The Gross Motor Function Measure was used at
zero, four, and sixteen weeks to compare the effectiveness of each treatment. The results show that the
MSAT was the most effective treatment, and there was no significant difference in outcomes between
the AST and NDT groups (Mahani, Karmiloo, Amirsalari, 2011). However, any of the three intense
therapies produced positive improvements. The experimenters believe that the shortened amount of
time spent on each movement and the goal based activities correlated with the positive outcomes in

Hey Jude Analysis
Is an imitation of an already existing artwork a separate artwork in itself? Some philosophers consider
would consider saying yes to this question such as Davies from the theory of multiple artworks while
others may say no such as Collingwood in his differentiation of a true artwork as contrasted with a
craft. There are many instances of artwork that are only imitations but the credit for its appreciation
are given to different people. For example, would a cover for Hey Jude by the Beatles in Youtube be
considered an instance of the musical work Hey Jude or would it be considered an entirely separate
artwork? The title of the song that is being sung remains Hey Jude but the appreciation of the
performance now belongs to the one who made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, a man singing Yellow by Coldplay would be a co author of his own performance along
with Coldplay but only if they intended to imitate the song in its original form. Even without all the
instruments present, if the intent is there to imitate the song Yellow with the best of his abilities, then
they would be in a joint authorship. However, if the intent is for there to be a change to the original,
then the imitation artist would be comparable to a ready made artist such as Duchamp. Joint
authorship according to Livingston requires that the authors share the aim for contributing to the
making of a single... work and in this case, the aim of the imitation author would not be sharing the
same aim in contributing to that work as the original artist intended. In the case of Duchamp s
L.H.O.O.Q. , he did not intend for the work to be regarded in the same manner as Da Vinci s Mona
Lisa . In the same way that the Fountain does not give credit to the creator of the urinal itself in the
role of being an artwork as it is to be regarded in a different manner than of a normal urinal, Duchamp
s L.H.O.O.Q. only gives proper credit to the creator, Duchamp and not Da Vinci. This can be applied

The Period Of The Ottoman Empire And The Ming Dynasty
During their time period the Ottoman Empire and the Ming dynasty were two powerful states, they
both had a view of itself and its place in the world. Although they were both significantly powerful the
Ottoman Empire was superior compared to the Ming Dynasty. Important aspects of their states such as
religion and trade played a role in both States, but in a long run had a greater impact the Ottoman
Empire, for they were much more powerful than the Ming Dynasty. During the 1300 s each empire
during this time had a religion that was significant to their state and impacted them, this includes the
Ottomans and the Ming. During the time period of the Ming dynasty, they based their states religion of
Neo Confucianism or new Confucianism . Neo Confucianism incorporates aspects of Buddhism and
Taoism into tradition Confucian beliefs. Their religion had a significant impact on their State. After
the Mongols conquered and ruled China, as a result China disunited. One of the main reasons the
Ming Dynasty lasted long as an empire, was for the reason the restored and recenter China after the
destruction of the Mongols. And their religion benefited them, for it helped unite china. Having one
common religion upon an empire, would eventually cause the areas within the empire to unite. In

Familial Alzheimer s Disease (FAD)
Familial Alzheimer s Disease (FAD) is a form of mental deterioration characterized by the formation
of amyloid plaques around neurons in the brain. While there appears to be multiple ways general
Alzheimer s Disease (AD) can develop, FAD is a rare type of AD that can be acquired hereditarily. Of
all general Alzheimer s cases, around 1 5% are FAD specific, which translates to about 50,000 to
250,000 people (Strobel). Children of people who have acquired certain genetic mutations linked with
FAD have been shown the potential of inheriting these mutations and developing FAD as a result.
Mutations in the presenilin proteins (PSEN1; PSEN2) or in the amyloid precursor protein (APP) have
been shown to be linked with FAD. PSEN1 is most prominently ... Show more content on

However, due to the rapid change of scientific knowledge and medical technology, an argument can be
made against this by saying diseases are more easily avoided if treated at early formative stages in life.
For example, today there is Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeat (CRISPR)
technology which is a genetic engineering tool used to target cells and change DNA sequences by
cutting and replacing nucleotides. At this point in time, it can be difficult to target specific cells so this
technology is still developing and improving. FAD affects brain cells, and so in order to treat this
disease with CRISPR, a virus like technology would need to be created to specifically target brain
cells, and be sure to reach all of them. This being said, it would be much easier to reach every brain
cell in a child as opposed to a fully developed adult brain. In this case, predictive screenings should be
available to children once technology such as CRISPR allows for a way to prevent and treat genetic
diseases.
A combination of predictive screening and genetic engineering technology would allow for
descendants of FAD affected adults to be diagnosed way before symptoms develop and remove the
malignant mutations from the genome completely. Rapid technological advancement has allowed for
FAD to be detected, and hopefully with further advancement,

center of thought that attempts to counter the pleasures of the sensual life (Jacobus 866). Plato has
entered minds throughout nations, displaying a question of enlightenment based off one s senses and
how one s perceive them.
To add on, Plato s cave is seen in many forms of depictions. Individuals have given many definitions
to what his allegory is portraying. In short, it is man in a cave with no view of the outside light and is
set to have his life perceived by mere shadows. Morris explains, The shadows are what the prisoners
deem to be real, so they must stand for what we deem to be real (418). Plato classifys the cave s world
as the Lower World , meaning no act of wisdom is inside for all man knows is one place. Plato also
classify s the outside world as the Upper World as being the world of wisdom or enlightenment. As his
allegory precedes, the man finds his way out and sees the Upper World first hand. When viewing what
he does not know leads him to find that this is the truth and everyone in that cave should hear of it.

Psychological Torture and the Fairness of Poverty in “The...
Psychological Torture and the Fairness of Poverty The Lesson , by Toni Cade Bambara, is a first
person narration of a young girl named Sylvia who through the teachings of Miss Moore learns about
the socioeconomic gap between the wealthy and poor. White Torture , by Farnoosh Moshiri, is a short
story told in third person of a woman enduring the psychological pain of torture which results in the
audience questioning the morality of the subject at hand. While both stories differ greatly in tone and
theme, they both demonstrate the potential of short stories when utilized properly. Bambara s use of
Sylvia as the protagonist of the narrative gives the story a somewhat playful tone while tackling a
subject that is far from it. While in the taxi Sylvia thinks to herself, So we heading down the street and
she s boring us silly about what things cost and what our parents make and how much goes for rent
and how money ain t divided up right in this country (Bambara 1143). This quote shows that by using
Sylvia s first person take with the story, Bambara gives us a humorous approach of a child that must
slowly come to the terms with the reality of wealth in the country. Moshiri s story White Torture, goes
with a third person approach when telling her story. The woman who is the focal point of the story is

Analysis Of Amy Chua s Battle Hymn Of The Tiger Mother
The Tiger Mother Way
Amy Chua s book Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother brings up much room for debate and controversy
for arguments whether Chinese parents do a better job than their Western counterparts. Chua s
parenting methods are most commonly described as stereotypical way every Chinese child is raised.
She explains in further detail how she raised her two daughters Sophia and Louisa and why she
believed in the tiger mother way. Although Chua s children became successful adults, she made both
good and bad parenting decisions. She was unfairly harsh and critical; however, she is a successful
parent in the aspect that she did teach her children many useful life skills such as not giving up easily
and how to excel academically.
Amy Chua was very harsh on her daughters. Chua not only once refused to let her daughter Louisa eat
but also to take a bathroom break(PC) during their music recitals (Chua 62). This is most certainly by
far one of the most overbearing(voc) and extreme parenting techniques Chua practices on her children,
Chua has very little tolerance for mediocracy and would turn away a home made birthday card her
very own daughter made for her if she thought they had not put enough effort into it. This shows that
she has a cold and very bold stance against weaknesses and lackluster effort. Amy Chua by nature is a
competitive person and everything is compared to or ranked. She was raised by

Representation Of Cleopatra
Cleopatra V11, the last ruler of the Ptolemaic Dynasty of Egypt, reigned from 51BCE to 30BCE.
Historians face a number of challenges in building an accurate representation of Cleopatra due to the
minimal surviving Hellenistic sources that are outnumbered by Roman and Greek sources. She was
discredited by many Roman writers under Octavian s influence as she posed a threat to the Roman
empire due to her connections with Rome s most powerful men. Cleopatra manipulated her physical
representation to suit different beliefs and values to gain respect in Egypt and abroad. This suggests
Cleopatra s representation was primarily formed in response to her own ambitions and those of others.
Octavian and Roman writers under his influence created a negative representation of Cleopatra
because she was a threat to the Roman empire due to her connections with the great Roman general,
Mark Antony. Octavian understood to garner the fealty of the Romans, it was important to slander
Cleopatra s name by shaping her image to go against cultural Roman beliefs and values. Ancient

their place in this world. The twentieth century brought political and organizational innovations to
support indigenous peoples attempts to recover and insure access to resources. Chase uses the example
of Brazil, the Andean Amazon and parts of Central America, in which, the Indigenous peoples
demands now focus on state recognition of their collective rights to a territory, which includes subsoil
and surface resources. Smith emphasized that Latin American republics has usually limited the
recognition of territorial rights for Indigenous peoples to those populations that are defined by law as
indigenous. This often leaves out and marginalizes large Indigenous populations catalogued as peasant
or as mestizo . According to Smith, this idea leaves out two important outcomes of those debates that
go hand in hand. One being that all human beings have the right to define for themselves

The Harlem Renaissance Of The 1920s
Hues are properties of light by which colors of objects are classified in reference to the spectrum. As
people, we decide what hue is intriguing, how it makes us feel, and unfortunately how it makes us
different. We are calmed by the blueness of water, and we are awakened by the yellowness of the sun.
It was not until the evil intentions of slavery crossed mankind s thoughts that hue became our
downfall, our separator. White supremacy eroded the idea of equality, and darker hues began to
symbolize worthlessness, inferiority, and ugliness. The Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s evoked the
idea of black consciousness and pride. It was a movement established to express black literature, art,
music, and culture. Blacks began to wear their dark hue like a badge of honor. Art, literature, and
music became the centerpieces of black expression and culture. Blacks began to see themselves as
equals in their quest for status, fame, and acceptance from Whites. However, racism was still
abundant, lynches still occurred, and Blacks were still just as inferior as before. To make matters
worse, segregation still existed, but the color line was not only a separation of black and white; it
became a separation of black and black. Artist associated with the Harlem Renaissance, such as Zora
Neale Hurston, James Weldon Johnson, Claude McKay, and Jessie Fauset, often told stories of the
other with the purpose of gaining the attention of white Americans. Their works expose the racial

The Death Of An Ancient Greek Philosopher
Many individuals fear the thought of death given that they feel the uneasiness of not knowing what
happens when one is dead. For example, some fear things like a continuation of their sense perception
post death allowing the possibility of being punished for all the bad actions in their lifetime. Epicurus,
an ancient Greek philosopher of the Hellenistic period of 323 31 BCE, believed that death is the end
of our existence and thus argued that the act of fearing death is irrational (Letter to Menoeceus, 10.124
125). The Epicurean argument I will discuss in this paper is in support of him claiming the fear of
death is irrational is better titled as the privation of experience argument. In his own words Epicurus
claimed that death is nothing to us in his Letter to Menoeceus (10.124). It is important to clarify that in
the privation of experience argument Epicurus speaks on the state of being dead and not the process of
death. So, for the purpose of this essay, like Epicurus, I will accept the notion that death is the end of
our existence. In this essay I will present the privation of experience argument in my own words based
on my interpretation of his argument. I will also explain how this Epicurean argument is valid given
that one can live a happy comfortable life simply by having the right attitude about the state of being
dead.
Before I present my interpretation of Epicurus privation of experience argument I will state that
Epicurus held a hedonistic point of view

Teen Drug Usage Could you imagine coming home and your child not being there? Or getting a call

teenagers freak out when they see someone tweaking from an overdose and they run leaving their
friend to die. The only thing teens are worried about is getting caught. If it means they will get in

How Narrative Medicine Can Improve The Physician Patient...
Synthesis #1: Describe how Narrative Medicine can improve the Physician Patient relationship?
This past s week s articles and video s has shown me the differences between two models of care one
being the biomedical model versus the biopsychosocial model (Soupis, 2016). Both of these models
have value however, distinctively different in their theoretical frameworks of how they deliver patient
care within the underlying roles that exist in the patient physician relationship. As I watched all the
video presentations; after having read all the articles already being moved by the writings of Dr. Rita
Charon, her video further demonstrated what type of impact a physician can have on their patients
when delivering this type of care as she aptly named narrative medicine (Charon,2009, p.119). This
week s lesson on narrative medicine struck a nerve into the depth of my inner being, totally awed me,
this developing field rather evolving branch of medicine.
Narrative Medicine is reestablishing the role and methods for physicians by teaching them empathic
witnessing. (DasGupta, Charon, 2004 p. 354). The premise philosophy believes in treating the whole
person, all dimensional sides of the patient, not just the parts of the patient. This interdisciplinary field
was created as an answer for patients, due to the failure of their physician s inability to hear, see, or
understand, their patient s pain that would have ultimately lead them to their diagnosis (Charon, 2004,
p.119). It seems

Essay On Hester Prynne
In The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne describes the life of Hester Prynne as a struggle with
society, forced to wear a scarlet A as a public reminder and shaming of the adultery she has
committed. However, her lover, Arthur Dimmesdale, must only live with the guilt of the deed, rather
than being shamed by the Puritan world. Indeed, the novel demonstrates the strength of the oppressed
against the weakness of the privileged when both are plagued with shame or guilt.
At the beginning, the town assembles as Hester Prynne displays her wicked scarlet A, representing the
unholy deed of adultery she has committed. The town scrutinizes her, feeling she deserved worse, that
they should have put the brand of a hot iron on Hester Prynne s forehead ... Show more content on

The members of Puritan society all pressure the wickedness of Hester s deed, and their condescending
manner puts Hester in an oppressed position, both as an adulterer, and as a woman. As the woman in
the adultery, she must take the public shame and care for the daughter, Pearl, who is in her arms as she
stands on the scaffold, a thousand unrelenting eyes, all fastened upon her, and concentered at her
bosom (Hawthorne 10). But despite the prejudice Hester must endure from society, rises much
stronger and utilizes the scarlet letter to increase her worth. The book alludes to Anne Hutchinson,
who led a group of religious dissenters and this allusion even anticipates the scarlet letter that she
wears (Themes). Hester starts to wear the A with pride, making it her own, and turned her problems
into solutions. Even the members of Puritan society were astonished, and even startled, to perceive
how her beauty shone out and made a halo of the misfortune and ignominy in which she was
enveloped (Hawthorne 7). She wore misfortune as a badge, and used the A in her own terms. Sally
Buckner explains that despite Hester s isolation from Puritan society and the normal people, she has

Hot peppers Jalapeno, capsaicin, and serrano are active ingredients contained in cayenne and other hot
chills which can have the same effect as the anti inflammatory drugs. Capsaicin has the ability to
inhibit the COX 2 enzyme, which is considered as the major reason of inflammation in arthritis.
Apples and onions They have quercetin in their content which is a natural histamine inhibitor. It will
help in relieving different allergies that are caused by inflammation.
Dark Leafy Green Vegetables They have a rich content of alpha linoleic acid and omega 3, similar as
the omega 3 found in fish. Make sure to consume plenty of these vegetables.
Pineapple This fruit has powerful anti inflammatory properties due to its rich content of bromelain
which contains enzymes which can minimize swelling, thus relieving inflammation and pain in the
body.

Essay on Women s Rights in Canadian History
A Women s Rights to Equality in Canada
Every woman has the right to moral, legal and political choice. As we look to the past, women fought
for the right to be treated the same as men and fundamentally to have the same rights as men. Prior to
the turn of the century, women had little to no rights. World War I and II gave way to change, allowing
women to work and eventually allowing them to vote. The feminist movement has made drastic
progress since the war. Today women are seen as equal and have the right not only to vote, but to be
educated. In 1977 the Canadian Human Rights Act ensured that women could no longer be
discriminated based on their sex, race, religion or sexuality. The act specified that there must be equal

Women were also allowed to get educations and go into teaching and nursing positions. The Person s
Case was another highlight which demonstrates the advancements of women s right in Canadian
history. This case included five women who ultimately help transform the way women were seen.
Emily Murphy played a significant role in establishing women s rights which led to women being
called persons in matters of rights and privileges. Furthermore, another female Canadian named Nellie
McClung helped in getting the right to vote for women. Ultimately resulting in the May 24th, 1918
Act allowing all women 21 years of age or more in Canada the official right to vote even if they did
not have the provincial license. The war brought many changes to Canada and around the world.
Women were finally being recognized for their efforts and perseverance and acquiring new freedoms
and improved rights for themselves. During the 1920 s, women became more involved in society and
continued to participate in the work force. Women continued to make half the earning men were
making at that time but by 1929 women made up about 20% of the workforce. The Women s Labour
League worked to defend women workers and the labour movement. They exposed shortfalls in the
minimum wage laws and fought for equal pay, maternity care and a women right for birth control.
Women were finally making their mark in government. By 1939,

Sex Trafficking In Texas
One of the growing issues in our society is sex trafficking. Sex Trafficking is a hidden crime because
victims rarely come forward to seek help due to language barriers, fear of the traffickers, and they do
not know where or who to turn too. These young girls are lured into prostitution by force, fraud, or
promises of a better life. Sex Trafficking is a serious crime that often goes overlooked because people
are uncomfortable with the issue, and are not sure how to fight it. This issue can be found even at our
own back door. The same interstate many Lamar Orange students use is the same one sex traffickers

Public Safety issued statistics that approximately 100,000 children are estimated to be in the sex trade

incoming tips totaled 2,236 calls, emails, and tip forms. As of June 2015 there has been 833 calls and

Understanding Cashflow Essay
Understanding Cashflow
Within an organisation, money comes in and flows out. This is called the organisation s cashflow.
From time to time, business managers may pose questions such as:
* Can we afford to buy x?
* Are we going to be able to pay that bill?
* Wouldn t it be nice if we could develop y?
To answer such questions, they will often have to carry out some form of financial planning, and often
to seek additional finance from outside the company. The key issues are:
* What is the finance for?
* How long will it be needed?
* Is it affordable, i.e. can the firm keep up with the repayments?

Businesses often depend on customers paying bills promptly. Given that customers like Ron Rust may
delay payment as long as possible, an overdraft can be a useful form of short term business finance.
Factoring
Trade debts mean that money can often be tied up for as much as sic months. For a business requiring
cash quickly this can be a real problem. A factoring company may offer immediate payment of part of
the amount owed to a business normally around 80% with the balance being paid when the debt is
settled. This provided an immediate way for a business to improve its cashflow. In return, the
factoring company will charge a fee which includes interest and administration charges.
Leasing and hire purchase
There are many different ways for customers to receive goods and make payments over time.
Goods on hire purchase remain the property of the finance company until the customer has made all
the payments. Other credit purchasing schemes enable the goods to belong to the customer from the
first payment. With leasing, the lessee uses the asset while making regular payments to the lessee, who
owns it. An operating lease is for a small amount, and a capital or finance lease is for a large item over
an extended period.
Loans
Most businesses need to borrow in order to trade successfully. The charge for

Beriberi Research Paper
Introduction: I am going to discuss beriberi. Beriberi is a disease brought on by a Vitamin B 1
(thiamine) deficiency. There are two types of the disease: wet beriberi and dry beriberi. Wet beriberi
can effect heart function and, in the most extreme cases, heart failure. Dry beriberi damages the nerves
and can lead to a loss of muscle strength and, eventually, muscle paralysis. If left unchecked and
untreated, it can cause death.
Symptoms: The symptoms of this disease vary depending on the type, wet or dry. The following are
symptoms of wet beriberi:
shortness of breath during physical activity
rapid heart rate
swollen lower legs
waking up short of breath
decreased muscle function, particularly in the lower legs

Rapid heartbeats, lower leg swelling, and/or difficulty breathing are all possible signs for beriberi.
During a neurological exam, doctors look for signs like difficulty of walking, lack of coordination,
droopy eyelids, and impaired reflexes. Later stages of beriberi will show memory loss, confusion, or
delusions.
Causes: The cause for this disease is a diet low in Vitamin B 1. Dynamics can contribute:
Abusing alcohol can make it difficult for your body to absorb and store Vitamin B 1.
Genetic beriberi is a rare condition that prevents the body from absorbing Vitamin B 1.
Pregnant women with hyperthyroidism (over active thyroid gland) need extra vitamin B 1.
Prolonged diarrhea makes it difficult for your body to absorb Vitamin B 1. Treatments: The treatment
for this disease is with thiamine supplements. Your physician might prescribe a thiamine pill or shot.
Monitoring and keeping up with your progress is usually done with follow up blood tests that show
how well your body is absorbing the

statistical numbers and graphs. He then questions how this money is being spent and for what exact

key details about how the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is causing more harm than good, going as far as
arguing against funding ALS and research for it. Salmon claims that the best solution is to fund other

The 21st century has seen a dramatic increase in the challenges facing cultural institutions, particularly
museums. One of the most pressing issues currently facing museums worldwide is the diminishing
level of government support. Despite reductions in government funding, the sustained maintenance of
museum collections and facilities continues to require substantial resources. In the face of such
difficulties, a growing number of museums have turned to innovative programming, specifically
exhibitions, as a way to ensure financial viability through increased attendance. Given the growing
competition for consumer leisure time in today s society, attention has shifted away from traditional
scholarly collection based exhibitions, towards the populist exhibition format offered by blockbuster
exhibitions. Through a discussion of Harry Potterâ„¢: The Exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum and
the First Emperor: China s Entombed Warriors at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, this essay will

although exhibitions reflecting popular culture are becoming increasingly more common, there are
institutions that manage to reflect popular taste in ways that continue to advance scholarship and
create opportunities for lifelong learning.

How Is Henry David Thoreau A Transcendentalism

Being unique has always been valued in modern American Culture. Especially in the age of
smartphones and social media, people are encouraged to take the untrodden path. In the 1800s, being
unique was not as popular as it is today. People with different views than the majority, were seen as
not ideal. Henry David Thoreau s writing and abolitionist views pushed the boundaries that
surrounded the ways of protesting, writing, and thinking during his time. He was a Transcendentalist
that took different approaches on ways he looked at nature and society. His works and actions inspired

The Crucifixion Of Jesus Christ
Through Matthew 27:11 66 it is evident that the governor Pontius Pilate plays a crucial role in the
crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Scholars throughout history have provided support to see Pilate as
positive, negative, or neutral role in the retelling of the crucifixion. Warren Carter is one of the many
scholars who have taken note of Pilate s role in history and within the source Pontius Pilate. Portraits
of a Roman Governor Carter argues that Pilate is a negative character. He goes as far to claim that
Pilate was one to actively seek conflict. While Carter argues that Pilate s role is one of negativity, I
would argue, that through a socio culture view, that Pilate is not a negative figure, but an ambivalent
one, due to his lack to enforce. In order to fully understand the story of the crucifixion it is crucial that
we take a step into the story. We should view it as a doorway and it is important that we go through it
in our imagination, in order to actually understand what is happening. We must ask our self what info
is needed to make the story authentic? This is crucial for us to ask so that we can fully dive into the
story and truly understand everything it has to teach us.
Stepping into the passage the first verse that reveals Pilate as an ambivalent role is in Matthew 27:14.
Pilate was amazed that Jesus didn t defend himself. He recognized the obvious plot against Jesus and
wanted to let him go, but Pilate was under pressure from Rome to keep peace in his territory.

The Constitution Of The Texas Constitution
Bigger is not always better, in the case of the Texas Constitution having the second longest state
Constitution and the fourth most amended Constitution in the United States, makes it a difficult and
complicated document. The Texas Constitution has been rewritten a total of six times since becoming
independent from Mexico. The most recent being the Constitution of 1876, which is excessively
detailed and exact due to the framers fear of a strong state government. The framers of the constitution
placed strategically in the body of the Constitution rules restricting the government s power. Making it
inconvenient and difficult to reform the current Texas Constitution.
There are four key functions of a Constitution. One function is stating the source of power and
authority for legitimate state political institutions. Also in a state Constitution is the delegation of
power, which explains how powers are granted and used by institutions and individuals. Another
function is to prevent the concentration of political power, by supplying political mechanism such as
checks and balances. Lastly, a Constitution explains the limits of political power.
The general basic of a state constitution is somewhat reflected in the current Texas Constitution. The
framers of the Constitution of 1876 called for a strong popular control of the state government, public
officials would be elected by the people. When it comes to the limits of political power the Texas

For myself and most people in Canadian society, education is a major part of our lives. Most people
will spend at least a quarter of their lives in the educational system. Using the school system as an
example, in my experience knowing people that have failed a subject, it was due to the fact they didn t
study or do the work which put them at a disadvantage compared to the other students in the grade,
but there could be social, economic, or historical reasons which lead to you doing those things. If you
come from a poor family, for example, you might need to spend so much time working that you do not
have time to study. A societal issue of this would involve in the whole grade failing this course. If this
happens, then the solution would not be an individual one, rather the solution would be the school
system taking a look into this and making any required changes to the course. A reason for this many
students failing could be that the students were not given the resources necessary to succeed.
Potentially the school did not have the funding to teach a course properly. This societal issue could
result in many students not move further in their education which puts them at a disadvantage. This
then can cause long lasting historical problems as it becomes a vicious cycle. A person comes from a
poor family and goes to a bad school, they then do badly in school and either don t complete it or

Personal Narrative-Defining Me
When I was young, I was naive, and also pretty arrogant, as was everyone I presume. But, on the other
hand, I also had two sides to define me: the first was this quiet, curious, and almost peculiar being
who was engaged and would absorb everything (quite literally too.) The other being this reckless, yet
selfless child who cared about others well being more than his own. For as long as I can remember, I
ve always been this way. Good or bad, that s me. Unlike most children my age, instead of playing
outside with friends in the neighborhood, I d be inside or alone in solitude with my thoughts. I ve
actually come to enjoy my own company a lot, there s plenty of positives that come with it: no
disagreements, full support, and free reign over what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was left in a trance, dazed by what he was saying. And so, we talked until sunrise about those various
topics and then some. It was perplexing; before that night of endless learning, I had been so numb,
arrogant, and naive. When I arose the next morning, I had a completely different mindset than before.
I had wanted to know more about space, the stars, formation of planets and our galaxy; our very
universe. I wanted to get to the bottom of it and solve all of the mysteries I had burrowed within. I
have never been interested in the stereotypical ideas of a career; I didn t want to be a soccer player, nor
did I want to become a firefighter, what I wanted was to become a scientist in hopes of studying space
more. Not knowing what that career was called until a few years ago, I had continued on with my life,
only talking about that topic in detail with my older brother. As for my cousin, he s probably
completely oblivious as to what he s done for me in my life. That night is one I will never forget. It
became apparent that, while as young as I was, I would never be able to look at life the same

Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Poetry
Elizabeth Barrett Browning s poetry was particularly prevalent while she was alive. Sonnets from the
Portuguese proved to be her most popular work. Browning was born Elizabeth Barrett on March 6,
1806; she was the firstborn of 11 siblings. Her life was closely guided by her father, Edward Moulton
Barrett. Browning was a talented reader, though she never attended any formal education, and the
young woman began writing poetry very early. At the age of thirteen, her father had her epic the Battle
of Marathon published. At the age of fifteen, Browning contracted a nervous disorder, causing
headaches, weakness and fainting spells, which lasted for the rest of the poet s life. Elizabeth Barrett s
relationship with poet Robert Browning yielded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For her, however, no confusion exists: God is Love, and Robert Browning s love brought concrete
form to the concept: in a Platonic sense, it gave form to the formless. She concludes that, in Barrett
Browning s understanding, the flame of love is divine in origin; it burns through lovers; its fire distills
all lesser metal out; what remains is the pure essence. Radley places such emphasis on the comparison
of divine and impure love because Browning asserted that all love is purified in

The Intelligent Civil Rights Activist By Frederick Douglass
The intelligent civil rights activist Frederick Douglass was born into slavery in Maryland on February
1818. His born given name, Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey, seemed to be a fairytale name to
an unusual life because his father was a white planation owner who was most likely Douglass s first
slave master, named Captain Anthony. Possibly it was Harriet Bailey who gave her son Frederick such
a distinguished name wishing that his life would be superior than hers. His mother couldn t imagine
that her son s life would continue to be a foundation of awareness and motivation for all abolitionists.
It would be hard to find anyone who symbolizes the Black History Month theme, like Frederick
Douglass when he fled the terrors of slavery to relish a life of liberty and freedom, but his exceptional
personal ambition to attain justice and freedom for slaves and all Africans led him to dedicate his life
to the abolition of slavery and the crusade for civil rights. His outrageous oratory skills and
unexpected achievements shaped a legacy that leads his inspiration across the centuries, making
Frederick Douglass a role model for the rest of eternity, especially to those who saw him as savior like
figure. When it comes to slave history in America, Frederick Douglass should be the first name to pop
into your head. One reason Douglass s story remains to prosper is that his life symbolizes the
American dream of overcoming difficulties and reaching greatness. At a young age he

The Theory Of Moral Development By Lawrence Kohlberg
The reason people in the society are often good than bad lies in the overall process of socialization.
Most of the individuals brought up in an environment of strict morality and teachings of fairness,
kindness and respect to others have good morals. In my opinion, all these factors should be
intertwined to enhance moral development in the society as a whole. Teachings should discourage
violence, dishonesty and selfishness and encourage a sense of fairness, cooperative tendencies and
restraint for other humans. Nevertheless, it is my belief that a strict moral code should be instilled in
the individuals through religion. The process of socialization in religion can have good effects if it
does not focus on religious extremism. The focus on human togetherness and oneness through religion
can enhance tolerance between humans in the society.
The study used the theory of moral development by Lawrence Kohlberg to articulate its views on the
process of human socialization. This theory gives three levels of moral development in the human
beings that include the pre conventional morality, conventional morality and post conventional
morality (Murphey 367). The process of socialization of children following this theory has good
results in the society. Children get to learn ways of handling things and situation from their elders.
This theory provides a consequential way through which individuals can socialize with others in the
society without causing tension or harm. The universal

The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism
Essay No.1 Weber has been considered as an expert on origination of capitalism. His most famous
work is The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism. Weber thesis regarding capitalism is rather
considered as an argument counter to Marxist thesis (which was regarding primacy of base over
superstructure). Weber discussed in his book that capitalism was resulted by Protestantism which was
a religious movement or more specifically speaking Calvinism. However any Calvinist who has gone
through catechism would have known that seeking a sign of selection by God in economic success, is
not a right thing to do; therefore it is a travesty to Weber s thesis (Kilcullen, 1996). One expects Weber
to Capitalism is a result of Protestantism or to be more specific, Calvinism. Calvinism believes God
has granted few with salvation whereas others have to go through damnation. This virtue isn t
dependent on their good or bad actions/ deeds but because God wanted it in a certain way. This belief
made believers of Calvinism worried about their salvation and made them invest more efforts into
economic success. This, in turn, made them believe that they were the chosen favourites of God.
Furthermore, the profits made by Calvanists were re invested into the business for further profits
rather than self indulgence. Hence, the concept of Protestant ethic came into place which generally
refers to desire of having enormous economic success and will of working hard. This concept of work

Summary Of The Monsorri Method By Montessori
In The Montessori Method, Maria Montessori proposes that teachers should teach according to what
they have learned about the student. This method can be applied by careful observation of the way in
which children pursue their own learning (573). Montessori s argument is that students can only retain
knowledge to their fullest capacity when teachers choose to teach directly to the students as
individuals instead of as a whole. Not every student is the same because all students have different life
experiences and life struggles. For this reason, Montessori questions why educational information is
taught to all students the same way. Instead, students should have the opportunity to express their
personality while teachers work towards developing engaging material that matches each child s
learning style, but this adaptation in teaching can only occur if the education system allows the
students and teachers more freedom in educational course.
Students should not be repressed in the spontaneous expression of their personality because this limits
their learning aptitudes. Montessori uses a metaphor about butterflies being pinned down to be
observed by students in order to symbolize children being pinned in their seats in the classroom; the
intention of this metaphor is to explain the effect of immobility of the child and his or her repression
(573). Butterflies being pinned is mentioned many times in Montessori s article, but one of the best
demonstrations is when

Billy Elliot Into the World Essay
Billy Elliot Into the World
There are a variety of pathways and elements, which enables individual transition into a New World.
Into the World is about people choosing the next pathway into their life by their own determination,
experiences and support which enables them to go beyond their original location and narrow view of
the world. Billy Elliot relates to the elective Into the World as the film is about new possibilities
opening up, determination, family support and individual growth. Two related texts that show other
kinds of transitions into new worlds include an article on the Queensland School of Excellence titled
Pas de deux from the Australian Educator on the 03/05/04 and a documentary by a Youth Program
called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of doors is a reoccuring symbol representing new worlds or barriers between worlds and used
throughout the film. Billy s initial glimpse of the ballet class through the door, and the way he enters
the class hesitantly symbolises a new world opening up to Billy. Billy s determination is one the key
elements involved in his eventual transition into a different world. Realising that his father would not
allow him to pursue ballet, he attends lessons in secret and practices extensively in his bedroom, the
bathroom and wherever else he can have some privacy. The door motif is again prominent with Billy s
father physically holding Billy back from pursing his pathway into a new world. Many of the doors
are shut and he must fight to break these barriers down. For Billy, dance becomes a means of escape
from his surroundings, a refuge, a form of self expression and, ultimately, a way out of his closed
community and into the larger world. The limited use of colour reminds us that the family world is
collapsing just as new horizons are opening up for Billy. Billy is determined to go against the rules
and traditions of his family and forge his way into a new world. Determination is also used through
persuasive and emotional language in the article Pas de deux . The Queensland Dance School of
Excellence is an education program offered in partnership with Ballet. It provides the opportunities for
talented dance students to continue their dance training in the upper

How do we convince existing NFL fans to switch allegiance to a new London based team? I don t think you can accomplish this with the time zone and the deep roots fans have for their home town teams. The Logistics of such a move would definitely hinder somethings. Money aside, an NFL season is 16 games long over a 17 week period. That s eight games at Wembley, and it s not only the fans that would have to put in the mileage, it s the players too. Now, London is some distance from the US: 3,459 miles. While travelling from America s East Coast would provide minimal problems, travelling from the West Coast back to England would take two days out of an already hectic week. This would definitely create a competitive disadvantage for a team that had to travel from the west coast for this game. Lastly, there is the issue having no team that would make this move at this time. The closes team in the thought process would be the Jacksonville Jaguars, and that is solely because of the owner and the dwindling fan base. Alexander has spent most of her life fighting racial injustice and teaching about civil rights. The thirty six children were randomly placed into one of three groups: Modified Adeli Suit therapy, Adeli Suit therapy, and Neurodevelopmental therapy, and each child received their assigned therapy for two hours a day, five days a week for four weeks (Mahani, Karmiloo, Amirsalari, 2011). The AST group received one hour of prep work, and the second hour was spent wearing the suit where they completed vigorous exercises. In the NDT group, the children spent the entire two hours performing passive and active movements. Lastly, the MSAT group conducted movements similar to the NDT group, during the first hour, and spent the second hour in the suit, where they performed fun and meaningful goal based activities. The Gross Motor Function Measure was used at zero, four, and sixteen weeks to compare the effectiveness of each treatment. The results show that the MSAT was the most effective treatment, and there was no significant difference in outcomes between the AST and NDT groups (Mahani, Karmiloo, Amirsalari, 2011). Of all general Alzheimer s cases, around 1 5% are FAD specific, which translates to about 50,000 to 250,000 people (Strobel). Children of people who have acquired certain genetic mutations linked with FAD have been shown the potential of inheriting these mutations and developing FAD as a result. However, due to the rapid change of scientific knowledge and medical technology, an argument can be made against this by saying diseases are more easily avoided if treated at early formative stages in life. For example, today there is Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeat (CRISPR) technology which is a genetic engineering tool used to target cells and change DNA sequences by cutting and replacing nucleotides. At this point in time, it can be difficult to target specific cells so this technology is still developing and improving. FAD affects brain cells, and so in order to treat this disease with CRISPR, a virus like technology would need to be created to specifically target brain cells, and be sure to reach all of them. This being said, it would be much easier to reach every brain cell in a child as opposed to a fully developed adult brain. In this case, predictive screenings should be available to children once technology such as CRISPR allows for a way to prevent and treat genetic diseases. A combination of predictive screening and genetic engineering technology would allow for descendants of FAD affected adults to be diagnosed way before symptoms develop and remove the malignant mutations from the genome completely. Plato has entered minds throughout nations, displaying a question of enlightenment based off one s senses and how one s perceive them. To add on, Plato s cave is seen in many forms of depictions. Psychological Torture and the Fairness of Poverty The Lesson , by Toni Cade Bambara, is a first person narration of a young girl named Sylvia who through the teachings of Miss Moore learns about the socioeconomic gap between the wealthy and poor. White Torture , by Farnoosh Moshiri, is a short story told in third person of a woman enduring the psychological pain of torture which results in the audience questioning the morality of the subject at hand. While both stories differ greatly in tone and theme, they both demonstrate the potential of short stories when utilized properly. Bambara s use of Sylvia as the protagonist of the narrative gives the story a somewhat playful tone while tackling a subject that is far from it. While in the taxi Sylvia thinks to herself, So we heading down the street and she s boring us silly about what things cost and what our parents make and how much goes for rent and how money ain t divided up right in this country (Bambara 1143). Analysis Of Amy Chua s Battle Hymn Of The Tiger Mother The Tiger Mother Way Amy Chua s book Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother brings up much room for debate and controversy for arguments whether Chinese parents do a better job than their Western counterparts. Chua s parenting methods are most commonly described as stereotypical way every Chinese child is raised. She explains in further detail how she raised her two daughters Sophia and Louisa and why she believed in the tiger mother way. Although Chua s children became successful adults, she made both good and bad parenting decisions. She was unfairly harsh and critical; however, she is a successful parent in the aspect that she did teach her children many useful life skills such as not giving up easily and how to excel academically. Amy Chua was very harsh on her daughters. Chua not only once refused to let her daughter Louisa eat but also to take a bathroom break(PC) during their music recitals (Chua 62). This is most certainly by far one of the most overbearing(voc) and extreme parenting techniques Chua practices on her children, Chua has very little tolerance for mediocracy and would turn away a home made birthday card her very own daughter made for her if she thought they had not put enough effort into it. Historians face a number of challenges in building an accurate representation of Cleopatra due to the minimal surviving Hellenistic sources that are outnumbered by Roman and Greek sources. She was discredited by many Roman writers under Octavian s influence as she posed a threat to the Roman empire due to her connections with Rome s most powerful men. Cleopatra manipulated her physical representation to suit different beliefs and values to gain respect in Egypt and abroad. This suggests Cleopatra s representation was primarily formed in response to her own ambitions and those of others. Octavian and Roman writers under his influence created a negative representation of Cleopatra because she was a threat to the Roman empire due to her connections with the great Roman general, Mark Antony. • 22. Challenges Facing Indigenous Latin Americans Smith discusses how important advances have been made over the past four decades in improving both the living and the political conditions for many of Latin America s indigenous peoples. Chase Smith discusses five major challenges facing Indigenous Latin Americans. Three of which will be discussed in this report. Firstly, there are many challenges regarding territory and resources. Smith states that since the beginning of European colonial domination in the Americas, that Indigenous peoples have suffered and protested the continual loss of access to their land and resources in order to their place in this world. The twentieth century brought political and organizational innovations to support indigenous peoples attempts to recover and insure access to resources. Chase uses the example of Brazil, the Andean Amazon and parts of Central America, in which, the Indigenous peoples demands now focus on state recognition of their collective rights to a territory, which includes subsoil and surface resources. Smith emphasized that Latin American republics has usually limited the recognition of territorial rights for Indigenous peoples to those populations that are defined by law as indigenous. This often leaves out and marginalizes large Indigenous populations catalogued as peasant or as mestizo . According to Smith, this idea leaves out two important outcomes of those debates that go hand in hand. One being that all human beings have the right to define for themselves ... As people, we decide what hue is intriguing, how it makes us feel, and unfortunately how it makes us different. We are calmed by the blueness of water, and we are awakened by the yellowness of the sun. It was not until the evil intentions of slavery crossed mankind s thoughts that hue became our downfall, our separator. White supremacy eroded the idea of equality, and darker hues began to symbolize worthlessness, inferiority, and ugliness. The Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s evoked the idea of black consciousness and pride. It was a movement established to express black literature, art, music, and culture. Blacks began to wear their dark hue like a badge of honor. Art, literature, and music became the centerpieces of black expression and culture. Blacks began to see themselves as equals in their quest for status, fame, and acceptance from Whites. However, racism was still abundant, lynches still occurred, and Blacks were still just as inferior as before. To make matters worse, segregation still existed, but the color line was not only a separation of black and white; it became a separation of black and black. For example, some fear things like a continuation of their sense perception post death allowing the possibility of being punished for all the bad actions in their lifetime. Epicurus, an ancient Greek philosopher of the Hellenistic period of 323 31 BCE, believed that death is the end of our existence and thus argued that the act of fearing death is irrational (Letter to Menoeceus, 10.124 125). The Epicurean argument I will discuss in this paper is in support of him claiming the fear of death is irrational is better titled as the privation of experience argument. In his own words Epicurus claimed that death is nothing to us in his Letter to Menoeceus (10.124). It is important to clarify that in the privation of experience argument Epicurus speaks on the state of being dead and not the process of death. So, for the purpose of this essay, like Epicurus, I will accept the notion that death is the end of our existence. In this essay I will present the privation of experience argument in my own words based on my interpretation of his argument. I will also explain how this Epicurean argument is valid given that one can live a happy comfortable life simply by having the right attitude about the state of being dead. Before I present my interpretation of Epicurus privation of experience argument I will state that Epicurus held a hedonistic point of view ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. How Narrative Medicine Can Improve The Physician Patient... Synthesis #1: Describe how Narrative Medicine can improve the Physician Patient relationship? This past s week s articles and video s has shown me the differences between two models of care one being the biomedical model versus the biopsychosocial model (Soupis, 2016). Both of these models have value however, distinctively different in their theoretical frameworks of how they deliver patient care within the underlying roles that exist in the patient physician relationship. As I watched all the video presentations; after having read all the articles already being moved by the writings of Dr. Rita Charon, her video further demonstrated what type of impact a physician can have on their patients when delivering this type of care as she aptly named narrative medicine (Charon,2009, p.119). This week s lesson on narrative medicine struck a nerve into the depth of my inner being, totally awed me, this developing field rather evolving branch of medicine. Narrative Medicine is reestablishing the role and methods for physicians by teaching them empathic witnessing. (DasGupta, Charon, 2004 p. 354). The premise philosophy believes in treating the whole person, all dimensional sides of the patient, not just the parts of the patient. This interdisciplinary field was created as an answer for patients, due to the failure of their physician s inability to hear, see, or understand, their patient s pain that would have ultimately lead them to their diagnosis (Charon, 2004, p.119). For myself and most people in Canadian society, education is a major part of our lives. Most people will spend at least a quarter of their lives in the educational system. Using the school system as an example, in my experience knowing people that have failed a subject, it was due to the fact they didn t study or do the work which put them at a disadvantage compared to the other students in the grade, but there could be social, economic, or historical reasons which lead to you doing those things. If you come from a poor family, for example, you might need to spend so much time working that you do not have time to study. A societal issue of this would involve in the whole grade failing this course. If this happens, then the solution would not be an individual one, rather the solution would be the school system taking a look into this and making any required changes to the course. A reason for this many students failing could be that the students were not given the resources necessary to succeed. Potentially the school did not have the funding to teach a course properly. This societal issue could result in many students not move further in their education which puts them at a disadvantage. This then can cause long lasting historical problems as it becomes a vicious cycle. • 44. Personal Narrative-Defining Me When I was young, I was naive, and also pretty arrogant, as was everyone I presume. But, on the other hand, I also had two sides to define me: the first was this quiet, curious, and almost peculiar being who was engaged and would absorb everything (quite literally too.) The other being this reckless, yet selfless child who cared about others well being more than his own. For as long as I can remember, I ve always been this way. Good or bad, that s me. Unlike most children my age, instead of playing outside with friends in the neighborhood, I d be inside or alone in solitude with my thoughts. I ve actually come to enjoy my own company a lot, there s plenty of positives that come with it: no disagreements, full support, and free reign over what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was left in a trance, dazed by what he was saying. And so, we talked until sunrise about those various topics and then some. It was perplexing; before that night of endless learning, I had been so numb, arrogant, and naive. When I arose the next morning, I had a completely different mindset than before. I had wanted to know more about space, the stars, formation of planets and our galaxy; our very universe. I wanted to get to the bottom of it and solve all of the mysteries I had burrowed within. I have never been interested in the stereotypical ideas of a career; I didn t want to be a soccer player, nor did I want to become a firefighter, what I wanted was to become a scientist in hopes of studying space more. Not knowing what that career was called until a few years ago, I had continued on with my life, only talking about that topic in detail with my older brother. As for my cousin, he s probably completely oblivious as to what he s done for me in my life. That night is one I will never forget. It became apparent that, while as young as I was, I would never be able to look at life the same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Poetry Elizabeth Barrett Browning s poetry was particularly prevalent while she was alive. Sonnets from the Portuguese proved to be her most popular work. Browning was born Elizabeth Barrett on March 6, 1806; she was the firstborn of 11 siblings. Her life was closely guided by her father, Edward Moulton Barrett. Browning was a talented reader, though she never attended any formal education, and the young woman began writing poetry very early. At the age of thirteen, her father had her epic the Battle of Marathon published. At the age of fifteen, Browning contracted a nervous disorder, causing headaches, weakness and fainting spells, which lasted for the rest of the poet s life. For her, however, no confusion exists: God is Love, and Robert Browning s love brought concrete form to the concept: in a Platonic sense, it gave form to the formless. She concludes that, in Barrett Browning s understanding, the flame of love is divine in origin; it burns through lovers; its fire distills all lesser metal out; what remains is the pure essence. Radley places such emphasis on the comparison of divine and impure love because Browning asserted that all love is purified in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Intelligent Civil Rights Activist By Frederick Douglass The intelligent civil rights activist Frederick Douglass was born into slavery in Maryland on February 1818. His born given name, Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey, seemed to be a fairytale name to an unusual life because his father was a white planation owner who was most likely Douglass s first slave master, named Captain Anthony. Possibly it was Harriet Bailey who gave her son Frederick such a distinguished name wishing that his life would be superior than hers. His mother couldn t imagine that her son s life would continue to be a foundation of awareness and motivation for all abolitionists. It would be hard to find anyone who symbolizes the Black History Month theme, like Frederick Douglass when he fled the terrors of slavery to relish a life of liberty and freedom, but his exceptional personal ambition to attain justice and freedom for slaves and all Africans led him to dedicate his life to the abolition of slavery and the crusade for civil rights. His outrageous oratory skills and unexpected achievements shaped a legacy that leads his inspiration across the centuries, making Frederick Douglass a role model for the rest of eternity, especially to those who saw him as savior like figure. When it comes to slave history in America, Frederick Douglass should be the first name to pop into your head. One reason Douglass s story remains to prosper is that his life symbolizes the American dream of overcoming difficulties and reaching greatness. At a young age he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Theory Of Moral Development By Lawrence Kohlberg The reason people in the society are often good than bad lies in the overall process of socialization. Most of the individuals brought up in an environment of strict morality and teachings of fairness, kindness and respect to others have good morals. In my opinion, all these factors should be intertwined to enhance moral development in the society as a whole. Teachings should discourage violence, dishonesty and selfishness and encourage a sense of fairness, cooperative tendencies and restraint for other humans. Nevertheless, it is my belief that a strict moral code should be instilled in the individuals through religion. The process of socialization in religion can have good effects if it does not focus on religious extremism. The focus on human togetherness and oneness through religion can enhance tolerance between humans in the society. The study used the theory of moral development by Lawrence Kohlberg to articulate its views on the process of human socialization. This theory gives three levels of moral development in the human beings that include the pre conventional morality, conventional morality and post conventional morality (Murphey 367). The process of socialization of children following this theory has good results in the society. Children get to learn ways of handling things and situation from their elders. This theory provides a consequential way through which individuals can socialize with others in the society without causing tension or harm. The universal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism Essay No.1 Weber has been considered as an expert on origination of capitalism. His most famous work is The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism. Weber thesis regarding capitalism is rather considered as an argument counter to Marxist thesis (which was regarding primacy of base over superstructure). Weber discussed in his book that capitalism was resulted by Protestantism which was a religious movement or more specifically speaking Calvinism. However any Calvinist who has gone through catechism would have known that seeking a sign of selection by God in economic success, is not a right thing to do; therefore it is a travesty to Weber s thesis (Kilcullen, 1996). One expects Weber to Capitalism is a result of Protestantism or to be more specific, Calvinism. Calvinism believes God has granted few with salvation whereas others have to go through damnation. This virtue isn t dependent on their good or bad actions/ deeds but because God wanted it in a certain way. This belief made believers of Calvinism worried about their salvation and made them invest more efforts into economic success. This, in turn, made them believe that they were the chosen favourites of God. Furthermore, the profits made by Calvanists were re invested into the business for further profits rather than self indulgence. Hence, the concept of Protestant ethic came into place which generally refers to desire of having enormous economic success and will of working hard. This concept of work ethic ... • 49. Summary Of The Monsorri Method By Montessori In The Montessori Method, Maria Montessori proposes that teachers should teach according to what they have learned about the student. This method can be applied by careful observation of the way in which children pursue their own learning (573). Montessori s argument is that students can only retain knowledge to their fullest capacity when teachers choose to teach directly to the students as individuals instead of as a whole. Not every student is the same because all students have different life experiences and life struggles. For this reason, Montessori questions why educational information is taught to all students the same way. Instead, students should have the opportunity to express their personality while teachers work towards developing engaging material that matches each child s learning style, but this adaptation in teaching can only occur if the education system allows the students and teachers more freedom in educational course. Students should not be repressed in the spontaneous expression of their personality because this limits their learning aptitudes. Montessori uses a metaphor about butterflies being pinned down to be observed by students in order to symbolize children being pinned in their seats in the classroom; the intention of this metaphor is to explain the effect of immobility of the child and his or her repression (573). Butterflies being pinned is mentioned many times in Montessori s article, but one of the best demonstrations is when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The use of doors is a reoccuring symbol representing new worlds or barriers between worlds and used throughout the film. Billy s initial glimpse of the ballet class through the door, and the way he enters the class hesitantly symbolises a new world opening up to Billy. Billy s determination is one the key elements involved in his eventual transition into a different world. Realising that his father would not allow him to pursue ballet, he attends lessons in secret and practices extensively in his bedroom, the bathroom and wherever else he can have some privacy. The door motif is again prominent with Billy s father physically holding Billy back from pursing his pathway into a new world. Many of the doors are shut and he must fight to break these barriers down. For Billy, dance becomes a means of escape from his surroundings, a refuge, a form of self expression and, ultimately, a way out of his closed community and into the larger world. The limited use of colour reminds us that the family world is collapsing just as new horizons are opening up for Billy. Billy is determined to go against the rules and traditions of his family and forge his way into a new world. Determination is also used through persuasive and emotional language in the article Pas de deux . The Queensland Dance School of Excellence is an education program offered in partnership with Ballet. It provides the opportunities for talented dance students to continue their dance training in the upper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
