SET INDUCTION SKILL

Set Induction
 Set Induction is also called anticipatory set.
 Steps taken by a teacher to begin a lesson or other
classroom activity.
 To introduce topic and get students focused and
interested in the days lesson.
 When the learners are set, they are ready to learn.
 It is about getting ready and induced into the right
frame or mind-set to learn.
 Concerned with the ways of introducing the teaching and
learning process.
Why Set Induction?
 To arrest or gain the attention of the learners and prepare them
into a state of readiness.
 To motivate the learners and get them interested in the lesson.
 To get students focused or think on what is to be learned.
 To establish a link between what students had known before and
what is introduced, moving from old to new materials and linking
of the two.

 To establish a framework to assess the impact and effectiveness
of a lessons.
 To give meaning to a new concept or principle, such as giving
examples.
Skills Needed in Set Induction
 The Skill of Introducing a lesson involves-

Set induction skill

  • 1. SET INDUCTION SKILL Dr. Sampark Acharya Asst. Professor Rajasthan Shiksha Mahavidyalaya Jaipur- 302002
  • 2. Set Induction  Set Induction is also called anticipatory set.  Steps taken by a teacher to begin a lesson or other classroom activity.  To introduce topic and get students focused and interested in the days lesson.  When the learners are set, they are ready to learn.  It is about getting ready and induced into the right frame or mind-set to learn.  Concerned with the ways of introducing the teaching and learning process.
  • 3. Why Set Induction?  To arrest or gain the attention of the learners and prepare them into a state of readiness.  To motivate the learners and get them interested in the lesson.  To get students focused or think on what is to be learned.  To establish a link between what students had known before and what is introduced, moving from old to new materials and linking of the two.   To establish a framework to assess the impact and effectiveness of a lessons.  To give meaning to a new concept or principle, such as giving examples.
  • 4. Skills Needed in Set Induction  The Skill of Introducing a lesson involves-  Rapport Establishing with the learner.  Capturing attention.  Exposing Essential Content.

  • 6. Capturing Attention 1. Perform or do something 2. Do nothing 3. Start talking in low tone 4. Eyes focus on students with disruptive behavior
  • 7. Exposing Essential Content 1. Ask questions related to assess previous knowledge 2. Review previous lessons and link them to what is to be learnt in class 3. Ask perplexing Questions 4. Show/demonstrate TLM 5. Link with new content
  • 8. Components  Preliminary Attention Gaining  Use of Previous Knowledge  Use of Appropriate Device  Link with New Topic
  • 9. Modes of Introduction  Questioning  Narration  Demonstration  Poetry  Blended (Mixture/Fusion)
  • 10. Example  Previous Knowledge- “Students have knowledge about Bullying”
  • 11. 1. What is needed to become successful in life? (Simple Example/preliminary attention gaining) 2. Where do you go to study? (Use of Previous Knowledge) 3. How many types of children come to school? (--) 4. what bad students do with others? (Perplexing) 5. What are the effects of bullying?
