The Impermanence of Knowledge
That which is accepted as knowledge today is sometimes discarded tomorrow. Consider knowledge
issues raised by this statement in two areas of knowledge.
Knowledge is defined as justified true belief . The concept of justified true belief states that in order to
know that a given proposition is true, one must not only believe the relevant true proposition, but one
must also have justification for doing so . New knowledge is based on the credible theories,
generalisations, which in turn are based on the observations and evidence. Theory observation are
inherently intertwined. However, there is no perfect perception. Everything we see and hear is
coloured by what we believe about the things and events we see and hear. Hence, new knowledge
depends on the evidence and the perception of the observer based on what he sees hears which are
again dependent on the observers beliefs and values and also on the bias of the individual / society in
deciphering the same. To what extent is the discarding of the existing knowledge justified by an
individual/ society? While we see that the new knowledge is important, discarding of the existing
knowledge depends on the bias of the individual or firm or society at large. We shall consider the
above knowledge issue in ethics natural science by studying the new knowledge received on
Marijuana, change in generalisations for a child and paradigm shifts in astrophysics through emotion,
perception and reason.

Human Resources Management (HRM) terms had widely replace personnel management (PM) as in

Well, it is said that human resources management is an organization s most valuable asset.
Organization thinks that human resources department plays a huge role in terms of staffing, training

The Interpersonal Relationship Between Sherlock Holmes and...
This paper will explore the relationship between Sherlock Holmes and his companion and friend Dr.
John Watson. What is the relationship between Holmes and Watson? Are they compatible or are their
differences to great for them to overcome. Looking at how they work together will also be a key factor
in how well the relationship works between the two of them. Do their own interests and abilities get in
the way? Does the time period in which they live factor into the environment of their communication
styles? There are several types of relational messages found in the film. For instance if your compare

Coulson, 2004). Sherlock is a part of the upper class while Watson is seen as a middle class citizen
while he is respected but he isn t on the same level as Holmes. He is also respected for his work as a
doctor and is known for being hard working. Sherlock is portrayed as a troubled but brilliant detective
who is often troubled and socially awkward with people. He also deals with psychological noise with
the fact that he sees everything he call it both a gift and a curse at the same time. Holmes and Watson
both have different degrees of perceived self and presenting self. In Watson case his is more concerned
with his presenting self than Sherlock is (C. M. Shaw R. Edwards, 1997). This can be seen in several
cases in the movie when Watson is going to meet his Fiancee s parents for teat he is both concerned
and worried with how they will perceive him. He is also concerned with how Mary , who is Watson
Fiancee, will perceive Sherlock and his relationship with him. While Sherlock isn t concerned with
how the world around him perceives him nor does he try to change or alter his appearance to suit
others. In his case he has constructed several different identities these can be seen in several scenes
within the movies. When Sherlock interacts with Watson he is friendly, open ,and engaged he has
about the same type of identity with Irene Adler though he is open and often flirtatious though he is
very careful about what information he shares

Genghis Khan Genghis Kahn Genghis Khan was born in Mongolia around 1162. He married his first
wife at just age 16, but had many more during his lifetime. When he was 20, he had started to make a
plan to conquer individual tribes in Asia and have them be under his authority. Genghis Kahn s empire
became what was known as Mongolia, and was the largest empire in the world before the British
Empire. His empire continued even after his death in 1227 and was one of the largest
accomplishments in history. Genghis Kahn was born in northern Mongolia around 1162. Genghis

After a series of raids, the Mongols launched a major attack in 1209 that brought them to Yinchuan,
the Xi Xia capital. Although their plan to flood the city with troops failed, the emperor surrendered
and paid tribute to Genghis Kahn. Next he invaded the Jin dynasty in China. The Mongols ravaged the
country side creating a scarcity of food and sending peasants flooding into the cities. The emperor had
agreed to hand over a large amount of luxuries, but instead had his political court flee from Zhongdu,
now Beijing, to the city of Kaifeng. Genghis Kahn took this as a break in their agreement and sacked
Zhongdu to the ground. In 1219, Genghis Khan went to war against the Khwarezm Empire in present
day Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Iran. The sultan had agreed to a peace treaty, but
when the first Mongolian caravan arrived it was raided and its merchants killed. When Genghis Kahn
heard this, he invaded the empire and swiftly conquered it with ease. When Genghis Kahn got back he
didn t wait to invade the remaining section of the Xi Xia kingdom. In early 1227, Genghis Khan s
horse threw him to the ground, causing internal injuries. He continued throughout the campaign, but
he never fully recovered. He died on August 18, 1227, just before the Xi Xia were

Senkaku Islands Controversy
Every day the world is dealing with issues that come and go or issues that have existed and was never
properly dealt with. The information we obtain is always presented to us through a plethora of sources
on a daily basis. Sometimes the source of our information is biased and other times it is neutral. What
is more important is how the knowledge is relayed to us and how we consume it. The media may
influence how we consume information based on how they word the topic at hand. In light of recent
controversies there is an issue in the Pacific over claims of the Senkaku Islands or as the Chinese refer

Literature Review On Child Aggression
S. Lee, J. Manganello, J. Rice, C. Taylor (2010) preformed a study to understand childhood
aggression. The journal article of Mothers Spanking of 3 Year Old Children and Subsequent Risk of
Children s Aggressive Behavior starts by saying that they are not the first to perform this research and
many of studies have displayed connection between corporal punishment with children and child
aggression. They are testing their research with new controlling factors, which have not been
controlled together before. (Lee et al., 2010) The main goal of the article is to determine the
association between the use of corporal punishment against 3 year old children and recognize later
aggressive behavior among those children.
Taylor et al wanted to learn the relationship between of CP on 3 year old and the outcome of being
more aggressive at the age of 5. They hypothesized that if they linked other significant maternal
parenting risk factors and demographic features that the aggressiveness increase. (Lee et al., 2010)
This observational study has integrated more than one study design, which includes longitudinal, cross
sectional, survey, retrospective. The longitudinal design has been displayed because it collects data
about children over a long period of time. It was utilized in this study by starting from mothers
spanking their child at the age of 3 and observing those children s behavior at the age of 5. Cross
sectional is exhibited because it investigates and compare the different

Rulers That Followed the Prince by Machiavelli
Niccolò Machiavelli suggested in The Prince that a ruler should behave as both a fox and a lion, being
both loved and feared. There are clever rulers who were strategic, courageous rulers who were
effective, and successful rulers who possessed both qualities. Elizabeth I of England and Henery IV of
France were two great rulers from Europe that were able to personify Machiavelli s advice. Elizabeth I
of England was able to act as a fox by preventing England from being torn apart over matters of
religion. By repealing The Catholic Legislation of Mary Tudor s reign, she was able to make the New
Act of Supremacy which dsignated her as the supreme govenor of spritual and temporal affairs. Also
she restored the church service of the Book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Elizabeth showed much leadership and strength in defeating the Spanish. She heeded Machiavelli s
advice and was able to drive England towards a prosporous Golden Age of wealth and power. Henry
IV of France was able to act as a fox by evaluating what mattered more to him. When Henry
converted to Catholosism out of being a Hugenot during the Saint Bartholomew s Day Massacre, it
was clear that he valued his own life over religion. Even when he coverted back to Calvinism
afterwards, he soon relized his valued of being in power over religion would cause him to convert,
once again, back into Catholism. Paris is worth a Mass, he said as he gave into the Roman Catholic
Church for the leadership of France. This value of state over religion made him a politique, believing
that no religious truth was worth the ravages of cicil war. He kept France from futher civil war by
issuing the Edict of Nantes which acknowledged Catholicism as th official religion of France but
guaranteed the Hugenots the rights to worship. He was wise to recognize that tolerance can help
establish peace in his nation and also to convert to Cathalosism because of their bigger population in
France. Along with being able to weigh out which decisions would help maintain a peaceful France,
he was also able to roll in more power for himself. Appionting The Duke of Sully as his finance

Benefits Of The Minimum Legal Driving Age
Minimum legal driving age should not increase to age 18, due to accidents caused by teens. Rising the
driving age will not help decrease the rate of teen accidents. The foremost reason for their high
accident rate is because of lack of experience. Second are the distractions. This paper will present why
the minimum legal driving age should not increase and the benefits for teens to begin driving at age
16. Reasons why increasing the driving age will not reduce accident rate among teens or new drivers
is because they will still be in the stage of learning and maturing into responsible adults and will lack
the hands on driving experience from parents.
According to the Nation Teen Driving Statistics, a total of 2,823 teenagers ages 13 19 died in motor
vehicle crashes in 2012. In 2012, 60 percent of deaths among passenger vehicle occupants ages 16 19
were drivers (RMIIA, 2015). Increasing the driving age due to immaturity would cause mass
punishment for the age group of 15 18 young drivers. What needs to happen is to address the cause of
most motor vehicle accidents and address the issue. Parents are responsible for signing documentation
that gives their consent of their child being able to drive. Many people believe the reason for teen
accidents is because they are immature but, the reason may be due to distractions. Distractions are the
leading cause of accidents for young teens. Allowing teens to start driving will give them a little
responsibility as a young teenager.

The Importance Of Social And Personal Identity
Everyone has an identity. A person s characters are the combination of their memories, thoughts,
feelings, and personal experiences. If you are meeting someone new for the first time, what do you
see? Their difficult childhood? Their struggles to get where they are? People can only see other s outer
identity and not their character because the components that are the core of one s character is covered
up by their external identity, the labels. The labels shape a person s social and personal identity in
society and the environment they grew up in, conforming them to the norm and dispossesses the
identities of those who are different.
The human mind seeks order in chaos. It attempts to organize information provided to it. The human
mind doesn t like the unknown, so it will find similarities that the unknown has with something it
knows. When meeting someone new, the brain assigns a label to them, categorizing that person s
characteristics and traits and group them with others with similar characteristics. A tag is created to
differentiate people who differ from the norm. In society, people are labeled based on their race,
culture, gender, etc. If you tagged a person as Irish, using that label, when you are describing that
person to someone else, they would have an idea of what the person you are describing is like since
they would associate the person s traits with similar traits with the same label. Categorizing the
complex nature of human identities is impossible. These

The rise of the Safavids in the 15th century led to the reestablishment of a unified Iranian state and
national identity,[4] which followed the country s conversion to Shia Islam, marking a turning point in
Iranian and Muslim history.[5][23] By the 18th century, under Nader Shah, Iran briefly possessed
what was arguably the most powerful empire at the time.[24] The 19th century conflicts with the
Russian Empire led to significant territorial losses.[25][26] Popular unrest culminated in the
Constitutional Revolution of 1906, which established a constitutional monarchy and the country s first

Diomedes Poetry Analysis
Then, when the Achaeans start loosing, Athena and Hera harness Heras chariot and put on their armor.
When they get Zeus approval to aid the Acheans, they fly to the battlefield, and Hera gives courage to
the Achaean forces.Athena flies to Diomedes to remind him that she will protect him and that there
should be no reason to be afraid, in fact, she criticizes him. Diomedes replies that Ares is dominating
the battle resulting Athena to get into Diomedes chariot to attack Ares. With Athena s help, Diomedes
spears Ares; In a panic, Ares flies away. The gods constantly intervene in the war, and to some extent,
the tides of war can be measured by a gods intervention. Usually, when a god arrives, it changes the
outcome on the battlefield, as soldiers will are given new courage. With Athena s help, Diomedes
glory reaches its peak as he spears the god of war himself. The passage is interesting because it
suggests the relationship between free will and divinity in the poem. Diomedes deemed a strong
fighter, and yet he s dependent upon the gods for support. He not a free agent: instead, he needs the
help of gods and goddesses. In this way, the passage reinforces why religion and divine worship are so
important in the poem: without the gods maneuvering them, the characters couldn t accomplish much.
Finally, the gods intervention is a reinforcement that the battle between Achaea and Troy is a battle
between groups of gods in conflict. At the beginning of book four, the

Volumnia s Triumph in Shakespeare s Coriolanus Essay
Because Coriolanus is largely a stage of competing self interests, it seems wholly unnecessary to
acknowledge their centrality in the play. Most of these interests are ephemeral or situational, and are
thus without true devotion. Thus however enraged particular interests are, they are rarely triumphant.
However, Volumnia s self interest warrants noting, as she is consistently resolute and passionately
advocates her opinions. Her self interest ultimately triumphs over Coriolanus psychologically, and in
consequence leaves him vulnerable to be triumphed over physically. Assumingly on account of the
marginalized status of and opportunities for Roman women, Volumnia uses her son Coriolanus to
satisfy her otherwise unrealizable longing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Sicinius remarks, Being moved, he will not spare to gird the gods. (1.1.254) Coriolanus assumes
that he deserves unrequited honor and consequently treats any and all who contradict his intentions
with the utmost disrespect. He is relentless and debasing in interactions with the plebeians, treats them
as if they are animals, and considers them unworthy of respect. What s the matter, you dissentious
rogues,/ That, rubbing the poor itch of your opinion,/ Make yourselves scabs? (1.1.161 163) Nearly
every word in this statement contributes to its abusiveness. He calls the people dissentious (though not
in their opposition to him), rogues (although the plebeians are the one s being denied rations, rights,
and respect), their opinions itches (because they irritate him) to be scratched, and culminates by
calling them scabs! Attitude is learned, and Volumnia has been Coriolanus most influential teacher.
While she insists that he be diplomatic and even fake when necessary, Coriolanus shows that he
cannot selectively curb his attitude. It is difficult to say whether or not Coriolanus seeks fame on his
own behalf is or does so on account of his mother s insistence. The latter suggestion is quite plausible,
as Volumnia continuously references the importance of fame and honor. She insists that Coriolanus

The Feminist Movement
The feminist movement has been developing its method of solving social and economical issues in
three consecutive waves, from the end of the 19th century till present. Each stage had its benchmarks
and significant shifts in the treatment of women from viewing them as objects and commodity to
perceiving them as citizens in full rights and creators of their own destiny. Gradually, together with the
growth of self consciousness and demand for more rights and freedoms, suffragists and later feminists
managed to secure more legal precedents and norms manifesting and consolidating their
achievements, including the right to vote, to own property and participate in public life. As the number
of these precedents accumulated and their visibility in the legal field became clearer, as their practical
application turned from the exception to a norm, then the issue raised: is the system which needs such
significant amendments viable and whose interest does it represent? As one of the most prominent
spokespersons on the issue, Catharine A. MacKinnon, described it, the existing system of justice and
the power itself attained the male shape; and lack of power and inability to influence the happening
got the female shape. The overall message broadcasted by the society as a whole and the legal field in
particular was that the established state of affairs was normal and universally accepted, and women
should be contended with it, as everyone else was. Everyone else in this case meant the

Persuasive Speech On Horse Slaughter
Every little girl dreams of having a horse, but what do you do with that horse when he is too old to be
rode and he struggles to come in and eat his grain? Most likely you don t have the heart to put him

is one more option, that is horse slaughter. Don t be afraid of it just because you hear the word
slaughter, the horses are treated well and they are put down humanely. Horse slaughter is a big
controversy in the United States, and there are many people that are against it, but I m here to tell you
why everyone should be for horse slaughter. Horse slaughter is something that is needed and not
something that is evil. Today I m going to tell you about why everyone should be for horse slaughter
and how it can help to control the horse population, help stimulate the economy and help feed people
that are starving. First, horse slaughter can help control the horse population. By taking horses to
slaughter then people can sell their unwanted, dangerous, and old horses. Now there are many of you
that might say they could also just be euthanized, but this would cost the owners a fortune. If they sell
their horse to a slaughter house, then the owner no longer has the dangerous horse and he also made
money instead of losing money. Since the United States Banned horse slaughter then abandonment
and neglect have in increased by 50% according to Alison Rowe attorney at law s office. The

Oil drove the industrial revolution and brought civilization a step forward, but so much money should

civilization towards greatness, developed countries, and even brought them back from the brink of
poverty. Society has lived off of fossil fuels for the past hundred years powering cities and driving it
forward towards great innovations. Such as the car engine, electricity, the power of flight, and the

The House Of Spirits By Isabel Allende
The House full of Fighting Spirit The House of Spirits by Isabel Allende is a bewitching novel that
captivates the reader from start to end. Allende uses various forms of literary techniques to capture
important themes within the storyline. In the text, Allende expresses the way men dominate women as
the female characters of the story are limited to make graver decisions past relying on their men.
Though these women naturally seek approval from men this does not handicap them from stepping
outside their shadow as powerful women with the willingness to endure many obstacles. This essay
will focus on the use of literary devices such as foreshadowing, magical realism in conjunction with
the theme of feminism and female bond within the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The form in which Allende wrote this novel surprises the reader with its every turn, especially when it
s known who s really narrating the story, none other than Alba. Magical Realism in the novel The
author tackles very realistic themes in the novel although there are still fictional elements surrounding
the storyline and its characters. There is something very real and very supernatural in Allende s novel.
Allende portrays the world in which the everyday and the supernatural coexist. expresses Stephen H.
Hart in his article. The House of Spirits can be categorized as magical realism in literature, but
Stephen M. Hart refers to it as subalternised supernatural and argues that Subaltern Studies makes
visible is precisely the fissured character of the national narrative itself, the way it is intersected by
other histories, other modes of production, other values and identities the author of the article suggests
that while the story touches base with real history with its women s rights movements, the evident
social class struggles but never detaches from the storyline nor the characters, the novel never lends
itself to prolong outside of the characters for too long. The feministic theme

Materialism In Alexander Pope And Pope s Rape Of The Lock
The views of women have altered over time, but have always had objectifying tendencies. During the
18th century, cosmetic alteration to natural beauty peaked and materialism heightened throughout
societal views. Authors such as Alexander Pope and Jonathan Swift vividly spew these views
throughout their writings. Pope s Rape of the Lock exposes the materialism used in objectifying
women, mainly in the upper class societal levels. The whole plot of the story centers around a
cosmetic appearance creating an objectified view, as since the lock of hair was cut from a woman s
head, the missing lock became, so called, evidence of a man s sexual conquest. Other sexual
conquests, forced or not, are spoken with anything but love and only those of ... Show more content on

This elevation highly represents the overall theme that materialism plays an almost biblical role in
society. The other way to analyze the list is that the Bibles are brought down to the very materialistic
level of the other listed cosmetics. Another aspect to note is that Bibles is plainly listed, not the first or
last mentioned item, but somewhere in the middle. Both ways conclude that the cosmetic, material
items compare at the same level as the Bible s paired along with them. Another list comes with a
comparison of paired items that contradict each other s importance; ... Or stain her honor, or her new
brocade,/ forget her prayers, or miss a masquerade,/ Or lose her heart, or necklace, at a ball;... (Pope II
106 107). The first description used in each line is something of importance, as staining honor,
forgetting prayers or losing her heart all have serious implications and consequences. But then those
more serious actions are paired with trivial material ones; staining a new brocade, missing a
masquerade or losing a necklace at a ball. The material actions paired with important ones really unify
them as being on the same level of importance. The contradiction is removed and materialism is
elevated.
Objectification of women goes hand and hand with materialism. When Pope speaks of the sexual
conquests in The Rape of the Lock, he only focuses on the material aspects that result

Upon research, the statistics below show the impact illegal border crossing has on Arizona. a) Over
the past few years, many families have been faced with unemployment, while struggling to find steady
work. In 2011 8.7% of Arizonans were officially unemployed, but in the prior year, 9.3% of illegal
aliens made up the workforce. That s 262,587 Arizonans left without jobs and 278,460 illegal aliens
with jobs. b) 37% of Arizona s uninsured population contained is illegal aliens, which was costing
Arizona $320 million annually. c) New reports show that tens of thousand illegal children will be
attending public schools all over Arizona, funded by taxpayers. This will cost Arizona 1.3 billion per
year, which weighs down Arizona s already struggling education system. Water Shortage As rainfall
levels continue to drop below normal for Arizona, the drought continues to raise concerns. Although
rainfall isn t necessarily a type of water source, most of the rain Phoenix gets comes from the
Colorado River, which in turn is also one of Arizona s main sources of water and used for Arizona s
water reservoirs, Lake Mead and Lake Powell. Here are some concerning facts listed below: a) Lake
Mead currently has 45% of its capacity level filled, putting it at 1,085 feet above sea level. Lake Mead

Cultural Variants in Health and Happiness Essay example
As people, we tend to be products of our culture. This is very much the case for me. I have been
shaped and molded by the outside influences that surround me. I have recently noticed that my
American cultural views are very different from other cultures and that perhaps my view may not be
the best. In fact, there may not be a best culture or view in life.
This semester we have heard multiple lectures which centered on the Chinese or Daoist cultures,
which have multiple similarities and are in many facets built on each other. In the lecture about
Daoism, Dr. Ronnie Littlejohn, spoke of transcendent bodies and concentrated mainly on qi
(Littlejohn). While Dr. Yuan ling Chao s lecture about Chinese medicine was about maintaining ...

American culture, despite the beauty of such diversity, has some draw backs. As nation, we are
amongst the least healthy in the world with an alarmingly high percentage of obesity. This could very
well be a byproduct of our culture. As for other aspects of our culture, American s tend to be very
motivated in life with goals that are often success and wealth oriented. These goals are focused on the
individual person; however, Chinese people tend to be focused on the community and family. They
look to each other for support throughout their lives and this is where the achievements that Chinese
people strive for is oriented around (Lu and Gilmour).
Despite the differences, each culture has its own way for people to strive to find happiness. Each way
must also have some basis because neither country is void of happy and healthy people. This brings
the question to mind, how can people find happiness in both ways? While I may not be able to give a
perfect answer that can be backed by facts and endless amounts of evidence, I can give my opinion on
how this is possible.
I believe that happiness is not the same for everyone. We all have different experiences and these
experiences shape us into the person we are. These experiences could be absolutely horrible and
prevent a person from every being happy again. They could also cause a person to grow and know his

A Report On Energy Efficiency
Abstract: Energy efficiency (EE) is an important objective in uplink wireless communications due to
the limited capacity of batteries in user equipment (UE). Consider the scenario in which the access
point (AP) serves a subset of UEs when available resources cannot support all of the UEs quality of
service (QoS) requirements. In this project, propose a scheduling metric to balance the tradeoff
between EE and fairness. Based on the scheduling metric, propose a suboptimal joint scheduling and
resource allocation algorithm and a power allocation algorithm that maximizes the system EE.
Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve a good tradeoff between the system
EE and fairness.
I.INTRODUCTION The booming demand for wireless applications and the relatively low battery
capacity in UE puts a premium on achieving high EE. With the growing popularity of green
communications, EE is becoming increasingly important. Previous work on energy efficient resource
allocation in OFDMA systems has mainly focused on downlink scenarios. Due to constraints on
individual UEs and the discrete nature of sub channel assignment uplink energy efficient resource
allocation is less tractable. In an uplink allocation algorithm is described to maximize the minimum
EE among all users.
In order to maximize the total EE of all UEs under individual power and rate constraints for the UEs
an efficient suboptimal algorithms are proposed.

Riley V. California Case
Riley v. California is a Supreme Court case that pertains to the Fourth Amendment; specifically, the
privacy clause. This case was decided by the Court in 2014 with a unanimous decision for Riley. It
came to the Court after the petitioner, Riley, was stopped for a traffic violation and then arrested on a
weapons charge. The arresting officer proceeded to search Riley and removed a cell phone from his
pocket. After accessing the phone the officer found evidence of gang related activity. The officer took
Riley back to the station and a detective that specialized in gang related crime went through the phone
and found multiple pictures and videos pertaining to a shooting a few weeks prior. They sought to
enhance the charges due to the evidence found on his phone that connected him to the gangs. Riley
moved to suppress the evidence that was discovered on his phone; the trial court denied the motion
and the Court of Appeals affirmed. A number of interests groups appeared as amici in this case
including: EPIC, American Civil Liberties Union, Cato Institute, DKT Liberty Project, Constitutional
Accountability Center amongst others submitted briefs in support of the petitioner. Two groups
submitted briefs in support of the respondent and those include Association of State Criminal
Investigative Agencies and Arizona et al. The Supreme Court held that without a warrant the police

Why Football Is The Greatest Sport
Why Football is the Greatest Sport in America
Every country has a sport that they find most interesting. Due to the nationwide involvement, this
sport will result in a great amount of revenue, and a common form of entertainment. In America, it is
evident that this sport is football. No other sport pulls in the same amount of revenue, media and
nationwide attention than football does. It is popular in all age groups, and is the staple of sporting
events to attend while students are in high school and college. Football is the greatest sport in America
because of the business it has created, and the national draw that has developed from it.
The National Football League (NFL) is an example of the incredibly successful industry generated by
the sport. This business has been, and continues to be, the highest earning sports league in the United
States. Average revenue that a franchise earns in the NFL is 286 million dollars, with the closest
industry trailing behind being Major League Baseball (MLB) averaging almost 50 million dollars less
(Gaines). Another aspect to observe with this comparison is putting in proportion how much more is
made per game since football has significantly fewer games. The NFL creates its leading revenue in
only a 16 game regular season, whereas the MLB falls short after playing 162 entire games. Putting
this into perspective, an NFL team generates an average 17.8 million dollars a game, but an MLB
team generates only 1.4 million dollars a game. Revenue

Climate Analysis On Climate Archives
There is significant evidence from studies based on climate archives that the Earth s climate about 10
000 years ago was very different from the present climate; it has changed a lot since the last glacial
period which ended about 10 000 12 000 years ago (Chappell, 1998). Hence, about 10 000 years ago
the Earth was buried under ice sheets and it was much cooler than present temperatures (see Figure 1,
Appendix) (Chappell, 1998). The Earth that has been cycling between cold and warm climates for
ages and is currently in the interglacial period where it has slowly become warmer along with a rise in
sea level (Watts, 2009). There are many climate archives which can help scientists study past climates
and their development over time. Climate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Corals were first discovered about 200 million years, however most have grown over the last 10 000
years. Therefore, corals are great climate archives to use in order to study the climate from the last 10
000 years. Corals also have a wide array of climatic history stored within them (Introduction: Coral
Reefs, 2015). They have a long lifetime and rapid growth which makes them ideal climate archives for
studying the past climate (Ocean Circulation and Climate Dynamics, 2015). Along with the corals
there is the foraminifera; also referred to as sea floor fossils. These sea floor fossils are often found in
sediment cores and can reveal a variety of things about the past climate through ocean currents,
temperature and oxygen ratios. Also these fossils are the most common source of paleoceanographic
proxies, making them easily available (Kucera, 2007). Hence, foraminifera or sea floor fossils are an
ideal climate archives for studying the past climate from about 10 000 years ago alongside corals.
Information about the past climate can not only help us understand our present climate but can also
help predict our future climate trends.
Corals, which are one of the climate archives been discussed, are living organisms who produce a
calcium carbonate skeleton to make themselves look like rocks. The calcium carbonate bands found in
corals help form permanent records of seasonal and annual climate changes. Corals are a type of biotic

The United States And The Declaration Of Independence Essay
To continue Jefferson shows these same qualities of independence in the declaration of independence.
He wanted the United States to have the freedom to govern itself. According to the author, I set out on
this ground which I suppose to be self evident, that the earth belongs in usufruct to the living... We
seem not to perceive that, by the law of nature, one generation is to another as one independent nation
is to another... The earth belongs always to the living generations, (Jefferson 5). What this quote form
the text is saying is that this world set up so that people can be self evident. He feels that nations
should be independent and that the earth belongs to the living generations. According to the author,
not to find out new principles, or new arguments, never before thought of... but to place before
mankind the common sense of the subject, in terms so plain and firm as to command their assent, and
to justify ourselves in the independent stand we are compelled to take, (Jefferson 10). To continue,
what Jefferson is saying is that mankind has a compelling sense to take an independent stand. This is
something that is and should be common sense to Americans. This is how we justify ourselves. Lastly,
Whitman shows his identity through his self pride. Self pride is when an individual shows pride in
oneself. It could be through things like goals and accomplishments, or even your looks or the way you
go about things. People should also show pride in their opinions and

both maxillary and mandibular arches, as well as extraction of #7, 8, 9, and 10 (all permanent

support from neighboring ones during which time periodontal treatment and surgery can be

Doing the periodontal therapy would insure that the patient is going to achieve her optimal oral health
status again. If the patient did not follow the proposed treatment plan, her periodontal health would
only continue to be compromised and deteriorate further with time. Furthermore, if such progression
continued, it would not be appropriate to do crowns on the patient. In a jeopardized periodontal
situation, any crowns Mrs. Perdaris would receive are bound to fail. She will end up in a worse oral
health status than she started out.
The next principle to discuss is the principle of autonomy. Not only is this one of the core values in the
hierarchy model, but also one of the five principles mentioned in ADA s Code of Ethics. According to
the ADA, patient autonomy matters just as much as the dentist s patterns of practice. However, Dr.
Decker should focus on what is going to be best for the patent in long term. In the Dental Ethics at
Chairside textbook, the dentist is mentioned to be the expert in dental treatment. The patient has every
right to dictate their treatment under the principle of autonomy, but ultimately the patient lacks the
knowledge what all entails each dental treatment plan option. This idea is expressed in the Guild
Model which idealizes the foundation of placing the decision making in the sole hands of the dentist.

The Detrimental Effect of War on People Essay example
War has a detrimental effect on the individual as the idea of killing another could be horrific to
anyone; though in the context of war, it was expected that soldiers were to kill another to defend and
honour their country. War can affect the individual mentally, physically and emotionally, causing
major distress and discomfort with, not only how they see themselves, but how they see war.
Regeneration was written by Pat Barker in 1991 and was inspired by her grandfather who had been
bayoneted in the war; she was able to see the scars he had when he washed in the sink. His war
experiences had affected her understanding of the war in a more immediate and personal way. Unlike

Both the novel and the play look at this idea, with two very different views. In Regeneration, several
characters are affected by the war in this way; for example Anderson has a dream which makes him
feel emasculated, in which [his] father in law came towards [him], waving a big stick. It had a snake
wound round it. and A pair of lady s corsets. [orderlies and his father in law] fastened them round [his]
arms and tied the laces . Barker suggests that Anderson s unconscious mind is revealing a fear of no
longer being seen as a man, perhaps a result of allowing his emotions to get the better of him causing
him to have a breakdown. There was a strong belief in the early 1900 s, that men should not display
emotions as this was considered to be a feminine trait. In Victorian times, masculinity was seen as a
male being: courageous; enduring; protecting of the weak; fit and well developed physically. A
stereotypical assumption was that men had to develop their body to be able to educate their minds,
though the only thing they weren t developing, according to E.M. Forster, was an undeveloped heart
not a cold one . It is likely that this caused the stigma that the men had at the time of the war, men
being afraid to put across their feelings and emotions because it was seen as wrong by them from a
young age. This is supported by what Forster also wrote For it is not that the Englishman can t feel it

Diuretics Research Paper
Diuretics
Enhancement drugs have been used by athletes for a very long time. There are numerous types of
drugs used by athletes, including steroids, androstenedione, gonatrophin, diuretics, etc. One of the
most common is diuretics. I am going to talk about the cause and effects of this drug on athletes that
choose to use this form of enhancement. Diuretics are a drug that changes or alters a body s natural
balance of fluids and salts. This in turn can lead to dehydration which can decrease and athlete s
weight which is helpful to athletes who prefer to compete in a lower weight class. Because of this drug

This can cause many problems within an athlete s body. Arrhythmia can lead to fatigue, dizziness,

possible side effect, constant monitoring and tests should be run during and before drug use. These
precautions include blood tests, and monitoring of potassium, sodium, or kidney function before drug
use. When these warnings are ignored, it puts the athlete s body or even their life at risk. In 1992, a

Persuasive Essay On Older Adults
In today s society, the older adults are often left behind and forgotten about. Society is often less
concerned about this population when they should be more concerned. As discussed above, as some
transition into later life, it is almost like they are entering a new world that they must readjust to. They
have to get comfortable in their new living environment, sometimes without their spouse and with
fewer friends and family members around. As a society, if we don t start monitoring this population,
the high rates will continue to rise and more older adults will continue to self harm which will lead to
a huge social justice matter. In order to advocate for this population, we must first educate those who
are not aware. I think it would be beneficial to start small programs or fairs throughout different
communities where families can be educated on exactly what to look for and how they can care more
for their older adult family members. In order to make this possible, resources are need. Educators,
physicians and social workers can all come together to provide the necessary curriculum to those
being educated. Certain policies should also be in place that will prevent the misuse of prescription
drugs. Instead of quickly responding to chronic pain with medicine, maybe other things should be in
place such as physical therapy or natural herbs, to help those individuals work through their pain. As
older adults visit health care more often, physicians should take time for screening

Strategic Dissection Paper on “Microsoft Corporation”
Abstract
This paper defines and exemplifies some of the strategies presented by David (2008) that are currently
being used by the Microsoft organization. This work presents different levels of strategy (corporate
and functional), some of integration and intensive strategies.
Levels of strategy
The corporate level of management consists of the chief executive officer (CEO), other senior
executives, and corporate staff. The main role of corporate level managers is to observe the
development of strategies for the whole organization. This role includes defining the goals of the
organization, determining what businesses it should be in, allocating resources among the different
businesses, formulating and implementing strategies that span ... Show more content on

Not only that, engineers typically get paid more than businesspeople (Kirkpatrick, 2008).
In early 1994, Gates received e mails from two young employees, Jay Allard and Steve Sinofsky, who
argued that Microsoft s current strategy was misguided and ignored the rapidly emerging Web. In
companies with a more hierarchical culture, such action might have been ignored, but in Microsoft,
which operates as a meritocracy in which good ideas trump hierarchical position, it produced a very
different response. Gates convened a meeting of senior executives in April 1994 and then wrote a
memo to senior executives arguing that the Internet represented a sea change in computing and that
Microsoft had to respond.
Integration strategies
Microsoft is using a forward integration strategy, which usually involves gaining ownership or
increased control over distributors or retailers. (David, 2010) Microsoft s forward integration includes
opening its own retail stores. Microsoft wants to learn firsthand about what consumers want and how
they buy. Intensive Strategies
A market penetration strategy seeks to increase market share for present products or services in
present markets through greater marketing efforts. Market penetration includes increasing the number
of salespersons, increasing advertising expenditures, offering extensive sales promotion items, or

Analysis Of Albert Camus BookThe Plague
Shaver 1
I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die to find out there isn t, than live as if there isn t
and to die to find out that there is.
Albert Camus, The Fall
In Albert Camus novel The Plague, the author employs three main characters the narrator, Tarrou, and
Father Paneloux to represent extremist views on religion and science in culture. The narrator, Rieux,
most closely resembles Camus own perspective while Tarrou and Father Paneloux represent the
radical views of the two opposite sides. Tarrou lives a life strictly reliant on science and throws faith to
the void; Father Paneloux being the man of religion has no consideration for the world of science.
Rieux often finds himself leaning more towards Tarrou, but with a fuller understanding of Camus
philosophy one can surmise that Rieux is not entirely opposed to the faith culture, and thus excluding
Camus from a full blown postmodernist view (Brizee Oct, 2017). The character of Father Paneloux is
introduced as a stalwart champion of Christian doctrine, (Camus 92) thus leaving the reader with no
curiosity about the qualification of this man from a religious point of view. It is this character s
challenges and responses to hardship that reveal his loyalty to the faith based world that is so
commonly overlooked in Camus novel. The sermons of Father Paneloux are perhaps to be considered
the strongest example of his faith in the face of the plague. The nature of the first sermon is blunt and

Virginia State Trooper Research Paper
A recent current event that is shown in media is the shooting of a Virginia State Trooper at a
Greyhound bus station. This tragedy occurred Thursday, March 31, in the afternoon around three p.m.
A Virginia state trooper was said to be talking to another individual, the suspect, and then the suspect

suspect shot the trooper other State Troopers began firing their weapons on the suspect. This tragedy
ended with the suspect dead, Virginia State Trooper with serious injuries, then later died and two
female civilians with not so serious injuries from the gun shots. Virginia state police do not know why
the suspect pulled out his gun on the trooper and why in a bus station where many are surrounding and
can get injured. Police also found out that the suspect has a long history of crime and gun use.

Many stories are written in a positive or negative way to make a event seem in a negative or a positive
way. Each news source has a way of tell how an event happened whether it is true or false
information. Most of the time a news station hears about an event occurring and tries to be apart of it
by telling the story but the source does not always have all the details so it is not credible. Usually by
the day after the event occurs is when the media is a little more accurate with the details, but not one
hundred percent yet. If one does not check different news sources for the same event to check the
informations, the source can mislead the person and give false information. A news station like Fox
News believes in personal responsibility and limited government, where ABC News believes in
government actions for equal opportunity. With having different view neither source will be exactly
the same because both have different ways of writ ring and

  • 4. The Impermanence of Knowledge That which is accepted as knowledge today is sometimes discarded tomorrow. Consider knowledge issues raised by this statement in two areas of knowledge. Knowledge is defined as justified true belief . The concept of justified true belief states that in order to know that a given proposition is true, one must not only believe the relevant true proposition, but one must also have justification for doing so . New knowledge is based on the credible theories, generalisations, which in turn are based on the observations and evidence. Theory observation are inherently intertwined. However, there is no perfect perception. Everything we see and hear is coloured by what we believe about the things and events we see and hear. Hence, new knowledge depends on the evidence and the perception of the observer based on what he sees hears which are again dependent on the observers beliefs and values and also on the bias of the individual / society in deciphering the same. To what extent is the discarding of the existing knowledge justified by an individual/ society? While we see that the new knowledge is important, discarding of the existing knowledge depends on the bias of the individual or firm or society at large. We shall consider the above knowledge issue in ethics natural science by studying the new knowledge received on Marijuana, change in generalisations for a child and paradigm shifts in astrophysics through emotion, perception and reason. • 13. The Importance Of Social And Personal Identity Everyone has an identity. A person s characters are the combination of their memories, thoughts, feelings, and personal experiences. If you are meeting someone new for the first time, what do you see? Their difficult childhood? Their struggles to get where they are? People can only see other s outer identity and not their character because the components that are the core of one s character is covered up by their external identity, the labels. The labels shape a person s social and personal identity in society and the environment they grew up in, conforming them to the norm and dispossesses the identities of those who are different. The human mind seeks order in chaos. It attempts to organize information provided to it. The human mind doesn t like the unknown, so it will find similarities that the unknown has with something it knows. When meeting someone new, the brain assigns a label to them, categorizing that person s characteristics and traits and group them with others with similar characteristics. A tag is created to differentiate people who differ from the norm. In society, people are labeled based on their race, culture, gender, etc. If you tagged a person as Irish, using that label, when you are describing that person to someone else, they would have an idea of what the person you are describing is like since they would associate the person s traits with similar traits with the same label. • 18. The Feminist Movement The feminist movement has been developing its method of solving social and economical issues in three consecutive waves, from the end of the 19th century till present. Each stage had its benchmarks and significant shifts in the treatment of women from viewing them as objects and commodity to perceiving them as citizens in full rights and creators of their own destiny. Gradually, together with the growth of self consciousness and demand for more rights and freedoms, suffragists and later feminists managed to secure more legal precedents and norms manifesting and consolidating their achievements, including the right to vote, to own property and participate in public life. As the number of these precedents accumulated and their visibility in the legal field became clearer, as their practical application turned from the exception to a norm, then the issue raised: is the system which needs such significant amendments viable and whose interest does it represent? Both ways conclude that the cosmetic, material items compare at the same level as the Bible s paired along with them. Another list comes with a comparison of paired items that contradict each other s importance; ... The first description used in each line is something of importance, as staining honor, forgetting prayers or losing her heart all have serious implications and consequences. But then those more serious actions are paired with trivial material ones; staining a new brocade, missing a masquerade or losing a necklace at a ball. The material actions paired with important ones really unify them as being on the same level of importance. The contradiction is removed and materialism is elevated. Upon research, the statistics below show the impact illegal border crossing has on Arizona. a) Over the past few years, many families have been faced with unemployment, while struggling to find steady work. In 2011 8.7% of Arizonans were officially unemployed, but in the prior year, 9.3% of illegal aliens made up the workforce. That s 262,587 Arizonans left without jobs and 278,460 illegal aliens with jobs. b) 37% of Arizona s uninsured population contained is illegal aliens, which was costing Arizona $320 million annually. c) New reports show that tens of thousand illegal children will be attending public schools all over Arizona, funded by taxpayers. This will cost Arizona 1.3 billion per year, which weighs down Arizona s already struggling education system. Water Shortage As rainfall levels continue to drop below normal for Arizona, the drought continues to raise concerns. Although rainfall isn t necessarily a type of water source, most of the rain Phoenix gets comes from the Colorado River, which in turn is also one of Arizona s main sources of water and used for Arizona s water reservoirs, Lake Mead and Lake Powell. Here are some concerning facts listed below: a) Lake Mead currently has 45% of its capacity level filled, putting it at 1,085 feet above sea level. Lake Mead is already at the lowest level since the 1930s and if the drought continues, it s expected to drop to 1,000 feet by 2020. Phoenix currently gets half its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Cultural Variants in Health and Happiness Essay example As people, we tend to be products of our culture. This is very much the case for me. I have been shaped and molded by the outside influences that surround me. I have recently noticed that my American cultural views are very different from other cultures and that perhaps my view may not be the best. In fact, there may not be a best culture or view in life. This semester we have heard multiple lectures which centered on the Chinese or Daoist cultures, which have multiple similarities and are in many facets built on each other. In the lecture about Daoism, Dr. Ronnie Littlejohn, spoke of transcendent bodies and concentrated mainly on qi (Littlejohn). While Dr. Yuan ling Chao s lecture about Chinese medicine was about maintaining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... American culture, despite the beauty of such diversity, has some draw backs. As nation, we are amongst the least healthy in the world with an alarmingly high percentage of obesity. This could very well be a byproduct of our culture. As for other aspects of our culture, American s tend to be very motivated in life with goals that are often success and wealth oriented. These goals are focused on the individual person; however, Chinese people tend to be focused on the community and family. They look to each other for support throughout their lives and this is where the achievements that Chinese people strive for is oriented around (Lu and Gilmour). Despite the differences, each culture has its own way for people to strive to find happiness. Each way must also have some basis because neither country is void of happy and healthy people. This brings the question to mind, how can people find happiness in both ways? While I may not be able to give a perfect answer that can be backed by facts and endless amounts of evidence, I can give my opinion on how this is possible. I believe that happiness is not the same for everyone. We all have different experiences and these experiences shape us into the person we are. These experiences could be absolutely horrible and prevent a person from every being happy again. They could also cause a person to grow and know his or herself better. This could enable a person to see what will make his or her happy in life. Life is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. A Report On Energy Efficiency Abstract: Energy efficiency (EE) is an important objective in uplink wireless communications due to the limited capacity of batteries in user equipment (UE). Consider the scenario in which the access point (AP) serves a subset of UEs when available resources cannot support all of the UEs quality of service (QoS) requirements. In this project, propose a scheduling metric to balance the tradeoff between EE and fairness. Based on the scheduling metric, propose a suboptimal joint scheduling and resource allocation algorithm and a power allocation algorithm that maximizes the system EE. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve a good tradeoff between the system EE and fairness. I.INTRODUCTION The booming demand for wireless applications and the relatively low battery capacity in UE puts a premium on achieving high EE. With the growing popularity of green communications, EE is becoming increasingly important. Previous work on energy efficient resource allocation in OFDMA systems has mainly focused on downlink scenarios. Due to constraints on individual UEs and the discrete nature of sub channel assignment uplink energy efficient resource allocation is less tractable. In an uplink allocation algorithm is described to maximize the minimum EE among all users. In order to maximize the total EE of all UEs under individual power and rate constraints for the UEs an efficient suboptimal algorithms are proposed. The proposed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Riley V. California Case Riley v. California is a Supreme Court case that pertains to the Fourth Amendment; specifically, the privacy clause. This case was decided by the Court in 2014 with a unanimous decision for Riley. It came to the Court after the petitioner, Riley, was stopped for a traffic violation and then arrested on a weapons charge. The arresting officer proceeded to search Riley and removed a cell phone from his pocket. After accessing the phone the officer found evidence of gang related activity. The officer took Riley back to the station and a detective that specialized in gang related crime went through the phone and found multiple pictures and videos pertaining to a shooting a few weeks prior. They sought to enhance the charges due to the evidence found on his phone that connected him to the gangs. Riley moved to suppress the evidence that was discovered on his phone; the trial court denied the motion and the Court of Appeals affirmed. A number of interests groups appeared as amici in this case including: EPIC, American Civil Liberties Union, Cato Institute, DKT Liberty Project, Constitutional Accountability Center amongst others submitted briefs in support of the petitioner. Two groups submitted briefs in support of the respondent and those include Association of State Criminal Investigative Agencies and Arizona et al. The Supreme Court held that without a warrant the police may not search a cell phone seized from an individual who has been arrested. A warrantless search is only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Why Football Is The Greatest Sport Why Football is the Greatest Sport in America Every country has a sport that they find most interesting. Due to the nationwide involvement, this sport will result in a great amount of revenue, and a common form of entertainment. In America, it is evident that this sport is football. No other sport pulls in the same amount of revenue, media and nationwide attention than football does. It is popular in all age groups, and is the staple of sporting events to attend while students are in high school and college. Football is the greatest sport in America because of the business it has created, and the national draw that has developed from it. The National Football League (NFL) is an example of the incredibly successful industry generated by the sport. This business has been, and continues to be, the highest earning sports league in the United States. Average revenue that a franchise earns in the NFL is 286 million dollars, with the closest industry trailing behind being Major League Baseball (MLB) averaging almost 50 million dollars less (Gaines). Another aspect to observe with this comparison is putting in proportion how much more is made per game since football has significantly fewer games. The NFL creates its leading revenue in only a 16 game regular season, whereas the MLB falls short after playing 162 entire games. Putting this into perspective, an NFL team generates an average 17.8 million dollars a game, but an MLB team generates only 1.4 million dollars a game. Revenue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Climate Analysis On Climate Archives There is significant evidence from studies based on climate archives that the Earth s climate about 10 000 years ago was very different from the present climate; it has changed a lot since the last glacial period which ended about 10 000 12 000 years ago (Chappell, 1998). Hence, about 10 000 years ago the Earth was buried under ice sheets and it was much cooler than present temperatures (see Figure 1, Appendix) (Chappell, 1998). The Earth that has been cycling between cold and warm climates for ages and is currently in the interglacial period where it has slowly become warmer along with a rise in sea level (Watts, 2009). Therefore, corals are great climate archives to use in order to study the climate from the last 10 000 years. Corals also have a wide array of climatic history stored within them (Introduction: Coral Reefs, 2015). They have a long lifetime and rapid growth which makes them ideal climate archives for studying the past climate (Ocean Circulation and Climate Dynamics, 2015). Along with the corals there is the foraminifera; also referred to as sea floor fossils. These sea floor fossils are often found in sediment cores and can reveal a variety of things about the past climate through ocean currents, temperature and oxygen ratios. Also these fossils are the most common source of paleoceanographic proxies, making them easily available (Kucera, 2007). Hence, foraminifera or sea floor fossils are an ideal climate archives for studying the past climate from about 10 000 years ago alongside corals. Information about the past climate can not only help us understand our present climate but can also help predict our future climate trends. Corals, which are one of the climate archives been discussed, are living organisms who produce a calcium carbonate skeleton to make themselves look like rocks. The calcium carbonate bands found in corals help form permanent records of seasonal and annual climate changes. Corals are a type of biotic proxy; which are proxies based on the ... He wanted the United States to have the freedom to govern itself. According to the author, I set out on this ground which I suppose to be self evident, that the earth belongs in usufruct to the living... We seem not to perceive that, by the law of nature, one generation is to another as one independent nation is to another... The earth belongs always to the living generations, (Jefferson 5). What this quote form the text is saying is that this world set up so that people can be self evident. He feels that nations should be independent and that the earth belongs to the living generations. According to the author, not to find out new principles, or new arguments, never before thought of... but to place before mankind the common sense of the subject, in terms so plain and firm as to command their assent, and to justify ourselves in the independent stand we are compelled to take, (Jefferson 10). To continue, what Jefferson is saying is that mankind has a compelling sense to take an independent stand. This is something that is and should be common sense to Americans. This is how we justify ourselves. Lastly, Whitman shows his identity through his self pride. Self pride is when an individual shows pride in oneself. Doing the periodontal therapy would insure that the patient is going to achieve her optimal oral health status again. If the patient did not follow the proposed treatment plan, her periodontal health would only continue to be compromised and deteriorate further with time. She will end up in a worse oral health status than she started out. The next principle to discuss is the principle of autonomy. Not only is this one of the core values in the hierarchy model, but also one of the five principles mentioned in ADA s Code of Ethics. According to the ADA, patient autonomy matters just as much as the dentist s patterns of practice. However, Dr. Decker should focus on what is going to be best for the patent in long term. In the Dental Ethics at Chairside textbook, the dentist is mentioned to be the expert in dental treatment. The patient has every right to dictate their treatment under the principle of autonomy, but ultimately the patient lacks the knowledge what all entails each dental treatment plan option. • 33. The Detrimental Effect of War on People Essay example War has a detrimental effect on the individual as the idea of killing another could be horrific to anyone; though in the context of war, it was expected that soldiers were to kill another to defend and honour their country. War can affect the individual mentally, physically and emotionally, causing major distress and discomfort with, not only how they see themselves, but how they see war. Regeneration was written by Pat Barker in 1991 and was inspired by her grandfather who had been bayoneted in the war; she was able to see the scars he had when he washed in the sink. His war experiences had affected her understanding of the war in a more immediate and personal way. Unlike Barker, R C Sherriff (a play writer and an ex officer in the East ... It had a snake wound round it. and A pair of lady s corsets. [orderlies and his father in law] fastened them round [his] arms and tied the laces . Barker suggests that Anderson s unconscious mind is revealing a fear of no longer being seen as a man, perhaps a result of allowing his emotions to get the better of him causing him to have a breakdown. There was a strong belief in the early 1900 s, that men should not display emotions as this was considered to be a feminine trait. In Victorian times, masculinity was seen as a male being: courageous; enduring; protecting of the weak; fit and well developed physically. A stereotypical assumption was that men had to develop their body to be able to educate their minds, though the only thing they weren t developing, according to E.M. Forster, was an undeveloped heart not a cold one . It is likely that this caused the stigma that the men had at the time of the war, men being afraid to put across their feelings and emotions because it was seen as wrong by them from a young age. • 37. Persuasive Essay On Older Adults In today s society, the older adults are often left behind and forgotten about. Society is often less concerned about this population when they should be more concerned. As discussed above, as some transition into later life, it is almost like they are entering a new world that they must readjust to. They have to get comfortable in their new living environment, sometimes without their spouse and with fewer friends and family members around. As a society, if we don t start monitoring this population, the high rates will continue to rise and more older adults will continue to self harm which will lead to a huge social justice matter. In order to advocate for this population, we must first educate those who are not aware. I think it would be beneficial to start small programs or fairs throughout different communities where families can be educated on exactly what to look for and how they can care more for their older adult family members. In order to make this possible, resources are need. Educators, physicians and social workers can all come together to provide the necessary curriculum to those being educated. Certain policies should also be in place that will prevent the misuse of prescription drugs. Instead of quickly responding to chronic pain with medicine, maybe other things should be in place such as physical therapy or natural herbs, to help those individuals work through their pain. Analysis Of Albert Camus BookThe Plague Shaver 1 I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die to find out there isn t, than live as if there isn t and to die to find out that there is. Albert Camus, The Fall In Albert Camus novel The Plague, the author employs three main characters the narrator, Tarrou, and Father Paneloux to represent extremist views on religion and science in culture. The narrator, Rieux, most closely resembles Camus own perspective while Tarrou and Father Paneloux represent the radical views of the two opposite sides. Tarrou lives a life strictly reliant on science and throws faith to the void; Father Paneloux being the man of religion has no consideration for the world of science. Rieux often finds himself leaning more towards Tarrou, but with a fuller understanding of Camus philosophy one can surmise that Rieux is not entirely opposed to the faith culture, and thus excluding Camus from a full blown postmodernist view (Brizee Oct, 2017). The character of Father Paneloux is introduced as a stalwart champion of Christian doctrine, (Camus 92) thus leaving the reader with no curiosity about the qualification of this man from a religious point of view. It is this character s challenges and responses to hardship that reveal his loyalty to the faith based world that is so commonly overlooked in Camus novel. The sermons of Father Paneloux are perhaps to be considered the strongest example of his faith in the face of the plague. The nature of the first sermon is blunt and ...
