Fluid Balance Essay
Case 1
1. The first way in which this patient s fluid balance is altered is by the presence of vomiting
noted by the emergency department. Vomiting can cause a significant loss of electrolytes as well.
The patient also has a fever of 102.3, which has probably caused some heat release by sweating
leading to fluid loss. The doctor notes the patient is breathing quickly which indicates he may be
losing fluid through hyperventilation. The large quantity of alcohol consumed by this patient also
contributes to the alteration of fluid balance by inhibiting the pituitary gland from secreting anti
diuretic hormone (ADH) which acts directly on the kidneys to reabsorb water. When ADH levels
are reduced, the kidneys produce more urine resulting in an increased ... Show more content on

8. The clinician repeated the chemistry panel and ethanol level when the serum osmolality was
obtained so that the osmolal gap could be calculated from that particular blood sample. In order to
calculate the osmolal gap, concentrations of BUN, glucose, serum osmolality, and ethanol level are
needed.
9. Based on laboratory results, this patient has co ingested a toxic alcohol i.e. methanol, eythlene
glycol, isopropyl alcohol. Other lab tests that could be ordered to confirm diagnosis include
measuring blood levels for methanol or ethylene glycol. Urine can also be obtained to see if
calcium oxalate crystals are present to confirm diagnosis of ethylene glycol ingestion. I could also

Theme Of Fate In Macbeth
The play Macbeth is a brilliant story told by William Shakespeare. There are a lot of themes in the
play that goes on and teaches about the ambition, the guilt, the fate versus free will concept and
how things are not what they seem. Therefore, all of those factor into how Macbeth is a very
interesting and very captivating story.
Shortly after Macbeth hears the prophecies of him becoming the Thane of Cawdor and the King
of Scotland, and after becoming the Thane of Cawdor a few moments later, he writes a letter to
Lady Macbeth about what he is thinking, which at the time is how he wants to do away with
King Duncan. ... the fatal entrance of Duncan under my battlements. Come, you spirits that tend
on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, and fill me from the crown to the toe tap full of direst
cruelty (I. v. 40 44). Lady Macbeth says to herself after hearing of Duncans arrival to Inverness.
Lady Macbeth then wants to have the strength to kill him by making her strong like a man. Later
on, when Macduff flees to England to find Malcolm to raise an army to take back the throne of
Scotland from a tyrant, Macduff says to Malcolm after Malcolm says he is very greedy and unfit
to be king; Scotland has enough treasures to satisfy you out of your own royal coffers (IV. iii. 90
91). Macduff tries to win over Malcolm by tempting him to come back. Furthermore, he then tries
to convince him to fight Macbeth because of his love for Scotland and his ambition to take back
the crown.

(Yahoo Finance, 2013). Figure 1 Figure 2 (Parker, 2013) (D Angelo, 2013) 3 Threat of New
Entrants The three dominant players have taken the early mover advantage to grow their
businesses. High level of adoption and efficient production are essential in this industry because
consoles are traditionally sold at a loss and revenues are made up by licensing games to
developers. This makes it very a difficult industry for new entrants. New technology incurs high cost
of capital in research and development (R D) and low product differentiation requires advertising
and marketing. Their brand establishment, together with their capabilities to make high investments
in required fields have helped the three firms to gain industry specific expertise, fast paced
technological capability, and strong brand loyalty which keep the threat of new entrants moderately
low (Wingfield, 2013). Power of Suppliers Each firm generates revenues from the profit margins on
hardware (gaming consoles) and software (game) sales, both suppliers are therefore integral.
Suppliers of the main hardware components, such as AMD and Foxconn, supply to all three
companies but also to other industries e.g. for personal computers and smartphones. While not
solely dependent on the industry, gaming currently represent the majority of

TECHNOLOGY PLANS Technology plan is expected for an organization. Technology Plan will
present the accurate management of resources according to the main concern. Creating something
new can be termed as innovation. There are different kinds of innovation models. Innovation
models are very important as these plays a major part in the growth of technology plan. Innovation
will profile the process. The technology push and need pull are the two necessary words of
Innovation Process. In technology push, new opportunity is coming out from research works. Need
pull is the mother of innovation. It means that market will request the need of something new. In a
fact state both the technology push and need pull should be the same. The relations of both the
variables should be equal. Innovation is a difficult process. Most innovation starts with some
problems like confused, false starts, problem with the recycling of steps and so on. There are three
types of Innovations. First of all Disruptive Innovation, the second open Innovation and third is

Sustainable Economic Growth And The New Zealand Economy Essay
An introduction that describes what sustainable economic growth is and why it is desirable for
households, firms and Government
Sustainable economic growth can be seen an improvement of the economy to optimise New
Zealand s quality of life for citizens by maintaining price stability (inflation) within the range of 1
3% with a focus on 2% and to reduce unemployment in New Zealand, with resources (land, labour,
entrepreneurial and capital) used to their fullest capacity to produce goods and services.
Sustainable economic growth as defined by Economics Online UK suggests Sustainable economic
growth means a rate of growth which can be maintained without creating other significant
economic problems, especially for future generations. There is clearly a trade off between rapid
economic growth today, and growth in the future , there is also a trade off between the
materialistic standard of living and environmental and resource depletion in the future as some non
renewable resources may be used up in the process of producing a greater quantity of goods that
has been demanded when growth occurs in the New Zealand economy.
Sustainable economic growth is desirable for Households of New Zealand as it generally means
that unemployment levels would decrease from the current rate of 5.6%, resulting in a higher
disposable income for New Zealand Households as their incomes would increase from receiving a
larger portion of income, resulting in an increase in aggregate demand of goods and

Drunk Driving Family
August 7th 2012, a day I will never forget, I heard the news that would alter my life and my
family s lives forever. My uncle was in a devastating car accident that almost took his life. We
were worried sick; It took what felt like forever for my family and I to see him after the accident,
the doctor told us that he was lucky to survive because the chances of him making it were very
slim. The cause of this accident was drunk driving, a man hit my uncle out of nowhere. The man
who was driving did not get hurt and left the scene right after he hit my uncle. Many drunk
drivers are careless and do not realize the damage that they can cause to many people s lives. My
uncle was lucky enough to survive an accident from drunk driving while many people are not as
fortunate. Even though my uncle did not die he was still severely injured and it made my whole
family aware of the pain of these accidents. These accidents can happen to anybody.
From that day forward, I decided that I had to educate myself on the harms of drunk driving and
educate others about how drinking and driving is not something that should be taken lightly. I am
an advocate against drunk driving not only because my uncle was a victim in an accident but
because of all the innocent lives that are lost to people who should not be on the road ... Show more

to make a difference so there are less deaths from drunk driving and less drunk drivers out there on

The Industrial Revolution Had A Great And Long Term Effect...
The Industrial Revolution had a great, and long term effect on our world. We the people have
profited from it in numerous ways. The Industrial revolution has formed the way we live today in
countless more ways than you can envision, yet it occurred so long ago. The revolution started in
the United Kingdom, then binged throughout Western Europe, North America and ultimately the
rest of the world. The Industrial revolutionhas also impacted the way us creatures live and act.
Even if we don t recall the event it has assuredly wedged us in many ways like in our cultures and
in our self being. Before the Industrial Revolution started we were alive in a time where
possessions were hand made. Where we required to pick the resources to make things ourselves.
The individuals of that era existed in small settlements where agriculture was very shared and
general. It was the basis for money and also the basis for food. People completed and sold things
that were grown or made, gradually and prudently. All was well, but there was also a want for
upgrading to make life easier. We desired cooler ways to carry materials, and we also had a want
for inexpensive and quicker production. This is why we were in necessity of development in the
industrial industry.
Before the creation of the steam engine, people used the power was provided by animals, wind and

Taxes In America Essay
Taxes are accumulated from the people for two main purposes in today s world. First, they are
used to provide for a number of public goods, such as infrastructure and public education. Second,
these taxes are used to redistribute income from the economically successful to the less successful.
Taxes are a massive component for any country; they are used to help grow and provide for a
number of sufficient facilities to its numerous citizens. Without taxes in our country, it is extremely
hard to fund the systems that are a necessity for society to operate as it should. Taxrates depend
upon a country s economic and social goals. In the following paragraphs, the views of America s
liberals, conservatives, and then my personal views on this topic will be shown.
American liberals prefer higher taxes; mostly focusing on taxing the wealthy people in our country.
Their belief is that higher taxes and a larger government are absolutely necessary to address
economic inequality and economic injustice in today s society. Their ideology states that higher
taxes would enable the government to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They believe in lower taxes and a smaller government with very restricted power. If the
government is taxing its people less, these people will have more of the money that they earned
themselves. Therefore, this can create more of an incentive for people to save money, work, invest,
and engage in new business opportunities. Stefan Folster in his essay regarding the subject says, A
second reason why lower taxes may affect self employment is that lower taxes often imply lower
expenditure on unemployment benefits, early retirement benefits, and other subsides to non work.
To the extent that unemployment benefits are reduced, unemployed people who are constrained on
the labor market have greater incentives to become self employed. (2) Conservatives main belief,
at its core, is that money is best spent by those who truly earn

In the Black Hills of South Dakota, there is a monument that is dedicated to four of the most
influential figures in American history. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln,
and Theodore Roosevelt are names that still to this day trigger thoughts of greatness and awe
inspiring men. All four of these men were presidents of the United States. They each had a
signature style or brought a particular ideal the American forefront. George Washington was known

And just as Gutzon set out to build a great feat, so will this paper and its interpretation and story
telling of the past. The history behind this monument, the artistry that is and was displayed, and the
basic skills of location, environment, and factors that influence geography will also be discussed
here. This work by Gutzon was not just mere sensationalism or commercialism, as has normally
been the angle of reporters, but instead this will take on the historic aspect as it was originally
intended to bring out.
HISTORY
History: The Beginning
It started as an idea to draw sightseers, but in 1923 state historian Doane Robinson suggested
carving some giant statues in South Dakota s Black Hills. Robinson was not the first American to
think that a big country demanded big art. As early as 1849, Missouri Senator Thomas Hart Benton
proposed a super scale Christopher Columbus in the Rocky Mountains (1). In 1886 the 150 foot
Statue of Liberty was unveiled. In the 1920 s, an unconventional sculptor named Gutzon Borglum
was carving a Confederate memorial on Stone Mountain in Georgia. Robinson wanted his
sculptures to stand at the gateway to the west, where the Black Hills rise from the plains as a
geographical prelude to the Rocky Mountains. Here, the granite outcropping resist erosion to form
the Needles, a cluster of tall, needle like peaks reminiscent of the spires on a Gothic cathedral.

Emancipationawassone Of The American Civil War
Emancipationawassone of the most profound consequences of the American Civil War.
During and after the war, about four million enslaved African Americans in the United
States became free persons. This generation had a significant influence on American history, an
influence that has yet to be fully recognized. During this remarkable period of transition, former
slaves stabilized their family lives, sought to control their work environments, established their
own schools and churches, and participated in public life as citizens. While these goals may
appear straightforward to us today, they were anything but simple to achieve at the time. The
transition from slavery to freedom was as extraordinary as it was complex. Newly freed African
Americans experienced both boundless joy and excruciating disappointment as they established
themselves as free persons. Freed people frequently encountered violent resistance to their efforts to
become paid workers and active citizens. Many white southerners refused to accept former slaves
as free persons.
The state of Tennessee provides a particularly rich case study of the transition from slavery to
freedom during the Civil War and Reconstruction. Second only to Virginia in the number of
skirmishes and battles on its soil, Tennessee was at the heart of the conflict between North and
South. The chaos of war visited many Tennessee communities and served to break down the bonds
that kept 275,000 individuals enslaved. Most Tennessee

In the course of developing an Army leadership competency framework focused on the Future
Force (up to year 2025), the authors examined several existing U.S. military and civilian leadership
competency frameworks. We attempt to link the core constructs across the frameworks and identify
similarities and differences in terms of their content and structures. We conclude that leadership

Employees want information about what they are required to do (or confirmation of what they
think they are supposed to do) in their jobs or positions. The operative word here is do . They
typically do not want to know what they are supposed to be . This simple representation of
leadership requirements helps us establish a context for evaluating leadership competencies and
frameworks/models. Those that are stated only as traits, characteristics, or in attribute terms are, in
our estimation, less valuable than those that are stated in task, function, and behavioral terms.
However, models that address both aspects of leadership may prove to be more valuable to more
individuals.
The purpose in establishing competencies for leaders should be to better define what functions
leaders must perform to make themselves and others in their organizations effective. Many
competency definitions include reference to clusters of knowledges, skills, abilities, and traits that
lead to successful performance (Newsome, Catano, Day, 2003). Yet competency labels are
typically expressed in either process or functional terms. This can lead to confusion as to what
competencies actually represent for leadership and organizations. Competency frameworks or
models should serve as the roadmap to individual and organizational leader success. The value of
competencies

It Starts With Little Annoyances
It starts with little annoyances, such as loud stomping from upstairs and the occasional sounds of
loud banging. Jungkook knew that having neighbors was difficult, and he prepared himself for the

Jeon Jungkook, your average sophomore in university, with barely sufficient grades and a ton of
snarky remarks, had been living in an apartment for nearly two years. The apartment just above
his was always empty, and he had wished to keep it that way Hoseok had told him a ton of stories

collect the drops, but when he comes back, the room is flooded up to his knees and he panics.
Jumping onto the kitchen counter, he crawls all the way to the refridgerator, and grabs his
umbrella, opening it to try to shield himself from the indoor storm.
Someone! he screams helplessly. He thinks of his papers on his desk that he worked so hard on,
probably destroyed, and cries. Help!
The front door suddenly slams open, and someone rushes into the kitchen.
Hi, I m Taehyung! I like the number ten, and you can call me TaeTae, why are you screaming the
stranger freezes at the doorway, staring at the scene.
If Jungkook wasn t so distressed, he would ve taken time and admire the handsome stranger. If he

apartment to witness him crouched on his kitchen counter holding an umbrella, screaming at the
water coming out of his ceiling and crying because he had no idea what the fuck was going on.

Brazil Power In South America
Although, Brazil has not fully attained the international power that its leaders covet, Brazil s
diplomatic capabilities through foreign policy, immense territorial size, and increasing economic
power has allowed them to establish their current position as a rising international power.
The foundation of Brazil s acquisition of dominance in the international community began during
the 1990 s when President Fernando Henrique Cardoso opted to shift their foreign policy from
autonomy through distance to autonomy through participation (Vigevani and Cepaluni, 2007, p.
1311). As a result of this, Brazil s prior hesitation to participate in international affairs started to
dissipate. Another reason this shift in foreign policy was important is because the historical

often overshadowed by the U.S. Though their overall relationship remains positive, at times, this
creates hemispherical tension between the two nations. One of the most notable cause of tension
stemmed from Brazil s desire to obtain a permanent seat on the United Nation Security Council
being undermined from the U.S. s lack of support (Snow, 2014, p. 218). This served as a reminder
that similarly to China, who was hesitant on having two Asian rivals, India and Japan, have a

Using Cloud Based Project Management Software Essay
Introduction Keeping track of various tasks, timelines, resources and risks while managing a
project can be very difficult. This can however be easier to manage in projects by using cloud
based Project Management Software (PMS) tools, which can help project managers and their
team manage those tasks in IT projects. For this WIKI, two PMS tools are to be described to
help assist final year Research and Development students in choosing the best PMS tool for their
project. The criterion used in selecting the PMS tools is that it shall have at least one key
feature that can help manage the project for each of the process groups of Initiating, Planning,
Executing, Monitoring and Controlling, and Closing project. The PMS tool must also be
provided by using the Software as a Service (SaaS) approach. This means that the product is
provided by an Application Service Providers (ASP) and made available through the Internet.
The PMS tools that we have decided to do are WRIKE and Teamwork, which we feel are the two
suitable tools from the many that have been researched. Wrike Background Wrike is a cloud
based PMS tool that was founded in 2006 Andrew Filev. It is a popular PMS tool used by many
large companies such as, Party Rockers records. Wrike focuses on collaboration and task
managements allowing users to share documents, discuss tasks with group members and
collaborate. We feel Wrike is a quality PMS tool as it has many of the features that quality PMS
tools should have such as

Every corporation must start somewhere meaning they must research where they want to be
located. To find an appropriate location, research is necessary because they cannot just build their
business wherever they want because that can be considered acts of aggression if they do not ask
the community for them to be in that area. So, to avoid confrontation corporations can ask the
community and give them their intent and how they are going to improve their community. With
them taking the extra step of asking for help from the community, then the businesswill run more

is suitable to each service user. (Aldworth et al., p16, 2010).
Proper Planning. Accordingly, it is often proffered that failure to plan is synonymous with planning
to fail. Planning is very important in ensuring good planning. Through planning, managers can
evaluate the future and make arrangements that is plan for the attainment of the organisational
goals and objectives. Planning is regarded as the primary management function or first among
equals because it initiates and provides the framework for the other functions. It also avoids errors,
waste, or delays in executing organisational activities. It allows managers the ability to adjust their
organisations to the environment instead of merely reacting to it. Good planning is critical to the
success of any organisation. Developing a strategic plan takes discipline, foresight, and a lot of
honesty, regardless how well you prepare, you are bound to encounter challenges along the way.

In this essay I am going to discuss Vincent Van Gogh and post Impressionism. Vincent Willem
van Gogh (March 1853 29 July 1890) was a Dutch post Impressionist painter whose work, notable
for its rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold color, had a far reaching influence on 20th
century art. After years of painful anxiety and frequent bouts of mental illness, he died aged 37
from a gunshot wound, generally accepted to be self inflicted (although no gun was ever found).
His work was then known to only a handful of people and appreciated by fewer still.

Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh has risen to the peak of artistic achievements. Although Van
Gogh sold only one painting in his life, the aftermath of his work is enormous. Starry Night is one
of the most well known images in modern culture as well as being one of the most replicated and
sought after prints.
One may begin to ask what features within the painting are responsible for its ever growing
popularity. There are actually several main aspects that intrigue those. Firstly here is the night
sky filled with swirling clouds, stars ablaze with their own luminescence, and a bright crescent
moon. Although the features are exaggerated, this is a scene we can all relate to, and also one
that most individuals feel comfortable and at ease with. This sky keeps the viewer s eyes
moving about the painting, following the curves and creating a visual dot to dot with the stars.
This movement keeps the onlooker involved in the painting while the other factors take
hold.Secondly below the rolling hills of the horizon lies a small town. There is a peaceful essence
flowing from the structures. Perhaps the cool dark colors and the fiery windows spark memories
of our own warm childhood years filled with imagination of what exists in the night and dark starry
skies. The center point of the town is the tall steeple of the church, reigning

Procrastination In High School
I can easily say that procrastination was something I struggled with throughout my high school
career. It was so easy for me to choose a football game or a night out with friends over studying or
doing homework. Even though school work is obviously more important than hanging out with
friends, I prioritized my social status. I thought it was the biggest worry in my life, but now that I
am in college, I know that my social life must come second to school work. I spent so much time
trying to impress people that I haven t spoken a word to since graduation. It is embarrassing to
think about how I portrayed myself in high schooland how I thought being the top dog was the
key to success. Looking back, I wish all the time I wasted thinking about how others viewed me
had been spent studying and focusing on school work. Once during my sophomore year of high
school, we had our first major project due in biology, a good old fashioned leaf project. It was
due in the middle of September, and fall was in full bloom. Which means the leaves were
changing, dying and falling off the tree. For the assignment we were required to collect thirty
two different types of leaves. The leaves had to be in pristine condition, labeled, pressed, and in a
scrapbook for the project to be complete. I spent all my time going to football games, soccer
games, and involved myself in to many events. I had play practice everyday, got home late and
then went straight to bed. I never made time or pushed aside

how it relates to the Lopez Family. It will also discuss the access to social services, client
wellbeing, and the issues of human rights regarding the Lopez Family.

The Lopez family has several macro issues; they suffer from legalization status, financial
problems, and lack of services; which all qualify to be conflict theory. Mr. Lopez, Tomas, and
Gabriela do not have their legal resident card that allows them to stay legally in the United
States. This would prevent them from getting several services in the United States. This can also
prevent the family from trying to get any services for the fear of being deported back to
Guatemala. Especially since Mrs. Lopez family was recently deported to Mexico. Do to their
legal status in the United States, the family has to deal with oppression. In the United States,
there are several services that are only provided to people who are legal, but others do not
request a legal status. The family could possibly fear deportation if they request any type of
services. As for Mr. Lopez legal status, he cannot apply for a better paying job. As stated in the
family assessment, Mr. Lopez job its only seasonal, there are several months where he does not
bring any income to the family, and Mrs. Lopez is responsible for all the bills during those
months. Because of Mr. Lopez legal status, he cannot apply for unemployment, and help Mrs.
Lopez in those months that he does not work. On the assessment done on the family, it not
specified the residency of the family. Some rural areas do not have many services for migrating
families. The assessment stated that everyone in the family spoke English and Spanish; the
concern will be how influence is Mr. Lopez on English, or is the family would rather have all
services in Spanish since its everyone s first language. Conflict theory will see this as an inequality
of distribution of services. The Lopez family might not feel comfortable looking for professional

Lauren Potter Down Syndrome Essay
Lauren Potter was diagnosed with Down syndrome at birth. It is a disease that she is proud to
have. Lauren Potter said, It is important to me that people with intellectual disabilities are
represented and treated fairly and are given the same opportunities as every other American (
Lauren Potter, Actress ). She fights for people like her who have been bullied.
Down syndrome is a disability where a person has more than two of the chromosome 21 (Routh
6). There are three different types of Down syndrome, Standard Trisomy 21, Translocation, and
Mosaic Down syndrome. Standard trisomy is the most common type of Down syndrome, and it
appears in ninety five percent of all Down syndrome cases. Translocation is when a patient has
an extra piece broken off the original chromosome 21. It sticks onto another chromosome. It
sometimes can be inherited. The final type is Mosaic, which has an extra chromosome 21 in
some cells, but not all. With Mosaic, the harshness of some effects depends on the number of
cells that have an extra chromosome 21 and where they are located (14). Overall about 4,000
people are affected by Down syndrome. Boys are more likely to be affected than girls(18), and the
older the mother is when pregnant, the higher the risk(44).
Down syndrome affects many people, including Lauren Potter, and has a lot of effects on people
who has this disease. She was born on May 10, 1990 ( Lauren Potter Actress ), in the Inland

Essay about The Digital Millennium Copyright Act
The Digital Millennium Copyright Act
Signed into law by President Clinton on October 28, 1998, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
(DMCA) was the foundation of an effort by Congress to implement United States treaty obligations
and to move the nation s copyright law into the digital age. ( Executive Summary DMCA Report )
While this seems a valid description of the law, perhaps a more accurate interpretation lies in the
following statement: The DMCA is a piece of legislation rushed through Congress by the
entertainment industry lobbyists to protect its monopoly on commercially developed digital
content, cartels, price fixing, and to maintain its status quo as the single entity that can direct what
should be popular or used by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the DMCA is often used by copyright holders to successfully fight Napster like
services and protect their anticopying technology . (Thibodeau 41) While it may seem logical that
copyright holders want to protect their technology and interests, the truth is that the law impinges
on the right of consumers to copy content. (Thibodeau 41) Obviously there is a conflict of interests
at issue and a consensus is needed to protect both consumers as well as copyright holders.
However, violating the founding principles of the nation, and citizen s rights to freedom of speech
is not the answer.
Further, in court rulings related to the DMCA, the courts have imposed liability and enjoined
conduct for what in other contexts would be considered fair use or freedom of the press. In addition,
the DMCA has been used to stifle academic research, and to arrest and indict a Russian programmer
who had come to the United States to present a paper at a conference. These cases and actions raise
questions as to whether Congress has changed the established rules, rather than just modernizing
them, for the digital era. (Ottaviani C1) This conduct demonstrates the great abuse of the DMCA in
relation to the First Amendment; freedom of speech is the most important freedom granted to
United States citizens and it must be protected.
Before the DMCA was enacted, manufacturers of devices that permitted one to copy works
generally considered themselves protected by the fair use

The Greatest Strength By Jim Collins Essay
Greatness is often sought but rarely had. Jim Collins, like many of his readers, has, however,
achieved greatness in his writing of Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap and
Others Don t. Good to Great is less of an examination of how good companies become great but
more of an analysis of leadershipand social skills embraced by society s most successful through
the lens of the business world. This is the book s greatest strength; by delivering concise
information that can be utilized on the personal level, Collins is able to broadcast what would
normally be considered mundane business talk by most in a fashion that is both interesting and
actionable to the book s more than 4,000,000 buyers. Achieving best seller status, Good to Great
aims to help individuals with a background in business, politics and other leadership backgrounds
become best sellers, themselves, in their respective fields. By breaking down informational content
into its simplest forms, providing ample evidence, repeatedly engaging in repetition, and by tag
lining the most important themes and ideas, Collins hits the mark. Good to Great is methodical in
its approach of conveying its information. Each chapter has a prevailing theme that focuses in on a
key area such as the hedgehog concept which Collins suggests businesses use to determine the
model under which they will operate. Additionally, each chapter seems distinct, yet related to the
preceding and succeeding one, lacing the book together

The Queer Reading Of Nick Gatsby
As insane as this sounds, I ve done the research. It s plausible. The idea isn t original; it was first
proposed by Carlyle Thompson, a professor of African American and American literature at
Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York. There s actually quite a bit of evidence
to support it, just as there is to support the queer reading of Nick.
Gatsby is described by Nick, his tanned skin and short hair look as though it were trimmed every
day (Fitzgerald 50). The short hair and the appearance of daily trimmings could definitely refer to
the grooming habits of African Americanmen.
Gatsby s West Egg mansion is on more than 40 acres of lawn and garden (Fitzgerald 5), which is
specifically interesting, because freed slaves were to be given 40 acres and a mule by decree of
Sherman s Special Field Orders, No. 15. More than is stated, but instead of giving us that exact
number it could be 41 acres or 400 but we re given 40. It should be noted that 40 acres and a
mule was oft promised, but a promise not always kept and inconsistently applied (Oubre 79).
There s an obvious metaphor for a man who feels deserving of something he doesn t get, i.e., Daisy.
Gatsby would be unlikely to achieve the level of success he did in the roaring 20s if he were black,
and some of the upper crust white folk would be likely to notice or take issue with his race, so it s
only a plausible theory if he were able to pass himself off as white. There is evidence for this,

Analysis of the Movie Out of the Past
The movie Out of the Past directed by Jacques Tourneur fits within the traditions of film noir
because it has some similar themes associated with it, such as doomed love. Robert Mitchum
plays the doomed, double crossed , ex private eye as Jeff Markham. The femme fatale is played
by Jane Greer as Kathie Moffat, who is trying to escape her future. Kirk Douglas as Whit Sterling
plays the ruthless gangster czar in the film. The formal cinematic elements in the movie are used
to vividly describe the movie. You can see that the lighting is very shadowy and dark. The
composition of the film leaves the audience feeling trapped within Jeff s problems. For example,
when Jeff starts his journey from Mexico to San Francisco we the audience start to... Show more

Also, throughout the film shadow s are splashed over Jeff like a deadly visual benediction,
showing doomed fate. Flashback Analysis Throughout the movie Jeff tells us the story through
the flashback. He is telling his flashback to Ann, a girl he s in love with. The time period is set
three years back and is narrated by Jeff. The flashback is the backbone of the movie because it
shows the audience how the whole situation started and ended. Over half the movie is told
through the flashback which is important because it shows that the character chooses to focus on
the past instead of the present. The flashback is told because Jeff is going to Lake Tahoe to
handle some unfinished business and he decides to let Ann in on the truth. Jeff was working for
Whit and was assigned to find the girl who stole Whit s money. The flashback goes into great
detail throughout the whole situation. The theme passion is shown when Jeff meets up with
Kathie. Soon enough he forgets all about getting the forty grand and returning Kathie to Whit. Jeff
fell for Kathie so they ran away to San Francisco. The characters in the flashback are shown to be
a litte edgy. Fore example, when Kathie first meets Jeff, she plays hard to get, pretending she is
uninterested in him. On the other hand, Jeff plays it smooth and doesn t let it faze him. The whole
flashback sets us up for the ending and

The General Behavior Model Is Developed By Ludwig Brenner...
GEBMO or the General Behavior Model was developed by Ludwig Brenner as a way to predict
hazards before they happened. Brenner devised a system of scenarios that could occur with
multiple factors for each element. The system is basically designed on a cause effect relationship.
One thing happens because of another which leads to a result (Haight, 2012). This model was used
to develop an emergency action plan for a small community surrounding a gas station.
The first step to any emergency action plan is to conduct a hazard assessment and the best way
conduct to do that is to conduct a walk through of the facility or area (Haight, 2012). In this
scenario, our facility is a service station with fuel holding tanks and convenience store items
which is located in close proximity to the center of town, a housing development, an elementary
school, playground, baseball field, and wooded area. The nature of the business makes it a hazard,
the location of it makes it a hazard to the community. Using the General Behavior Model, possible
hazards and their reactions, as well as ways to prevent them are discussed.
When working with fuels such as gasoline and diesel, physical hazards to humans are possible.
Gasoline is highly explosive and flammable, while diesel is flammable. The use of GEBMO is to
prevent or reduce the number of fires and explosions. GEBMO is broken down into seven steps.
The first step is to predict a stressing event such as a fire when a tanker is

Compare The Ways Gone And A Long Way Gone By Ishmael Beah
In the memoir, A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah, and the film The Inevitable Defeat of Mister
and Pete, there is a lot to do with poverty, loss of family and independence. Only in different
ways. Ishmael is on his own and has to find his own food, water and shelter along with a few
friends. The boys are all young but were thrown into the real world very quickly and
unexpectedly. Mister and Pete have their mothers, but it does not matter as of the mothers do not
seem to care for their children as much as they should. Mister and Pete come home to rarely any
food at all, no money and are scared of one day, no shelter. Mister has to take charge in his home
as a result of his motherbeing a drug addict and does not try to help, just like Ishmael had to be
his own person by reason of the believed loss of his family. In the film, police came to search the
apartment. Mister and Pete hid as they do not want to depart to Riverview, the children s home.
Every day, the two boys are avoiding the police or running from them. They must buy their own
food, take care of their home and one another. Mister steps up and tries his best to provide and
care for Pete, although being thirteen years of age, he cannot yet acquire a job. In the memoir,
Ishmael and his friends are driven to do everything they can to avoid the rebels or they could be in
danger, possibly killed. They end up only going out at night so that they will not get seen as easy
and be as quiet as possible. Ishmael is a leader,

The essay I wrote about was based on the experiences of Women in Islam which is consist of a

their Muslim identities and the negative effects that comes with being a Muslim in America.
The main reason why I decided to study this group of students and use them as my ethnography

mere fact of being a Muslim. This subculture is something I am very passionate about, because it

Religion Is No Doubt A Popular Essay
College of Charleston
Zoroastrianism:
A Discussion
Christopher M. Kountz
REL 105 (05) 9:25 a.m. 10:40 a.m.
Spring 2015
In today s society, religion is no doubt a popular, if widely contested, topic. The vast array of
belief systems that exists worldwide has a significant influence on the opposing viewpoints of
many current hot button issues, and despite the intended separation of church and state here in
the United States; religion is both a social and political force. A person s spiritual beliefs often
provide the basis for his or her entire lifestyle, including physical appearance, dietary choices, and
perhaps most importantly, decisions that directly involve one s perspective of right and wrong.
Even those who do not identify with any one particular religion typically have some knowledge of
the world s major religions, such as Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, or Islam, simply because of
their enormous numbers in terms of followers which continue to rapidly expand.
However, beyond these theological giants exists a multitude of smaller, but no less meaningful,
other religions. Zoroastrianism, for example, is one of today s smallest religions, with an estimated
200,000 followers (Hartz, p. 8). As a comparison, the Islam religion boasts over one billion
followers (Sonn, p. 185). Yet even though modern day Zoroastrianism is not nearly as widespread
as its more prominent counterparts, it is nonetheless an important cultural constituent, both due to its

King Asok Not More Than A Myth Essay
For a long time, King Asoka was thought to be nothing more than a myth. With several writings
concerning him, they all relayed too fantastical an image to be convincing as truthful, keeping
him in a legendary status. This all changed in 1837, well over a thousand years after his death,
when a scholar James Prinsep managed to translate writings on a stone pillar in Delhi. After
several other scholars raced to translate similar writings all over the Indian landscape, it was
revealed that this King Piyadasi was the same as King Asoka. Even with his history pieced
together, Asoka s history is still legendary. He started as a lowly person shunned by his own
father and grew to be a ruler of a kingdom that had never seen complete unity. But indeed, despite
the face of caring compassion he attempted to convey to the Indian people, and despite the reforms
he made to various sectors of his kingdom, it is clear Asoka was only using Buddhismas a way to
unite the people and, more importantly, keep them under his control. It is rumored that Asoka s
grandmother was a Greek princess, with his lineage being traced back to the Seleucus kingship,
and that his Asoka s grandmother would have told him stories of Alexander the Great and other
Greek warriors, inspiring Asoka and gearing him towards being the warrior he would become in
the Kalinga Wars. Asoka s mother is supposed to be the daughter of a Brahman, a Hindu priest. She
eventually married the King of India, one of the first of the

How Did Buddy Holly Influence Popular Music
Even Though Bob Dylan and Buddy Holly are both singer/song writers, their journeys have taken
them down completely different paths. One has had a long career in the industry and the other has
unfortunately has had a short career. Both have had wonderful and successful lives and are still
well known for what they accomplished with their music. Buddy Hollyplayed rock n roll for a few
short year but the music he recorded in that time has made a major and forever lasting impact on
popular music. Not only did he write his own music, but he was also the first to exploit advanced
studio techniques such as double tracking, (rockhall.com). Bob Dylanon the other hand is a
recognized poet laureate of the rock n roll era and the pre eminent singer/songwriter of modern
times. No matter if he is singing topical folk songs, exploring rootsy rock and blues, or delivering
one of his abstract, allegorical compositions, he is always demonstrating a rare ability to reach
listeners with his lyrics, (rockhall.com).
Buddy Holly was born on September 7th, 1936 in Lubbock, Texas. His birth name was Charles
Hardin Holley, he is the youngest out of four children. He got the name Buddy from his mother,
who felt his birth name was too big for a young boy. Holly learned to play the piano and the fiddle
when he was pretty young, and his brothers taught him how to play the guitar. After Buddy
graduated High School, he formed a band that played country and western songs on the radio. He

The Importance Of Miranda Warnings
Juveniles, particularly younger juveniles, are unable to comprehend the Miranda warning, and, by
extension, exercise their Miranda rights, for biological reasons, specifically their developmental
immaturity. According to Rogers et al. s study (Rogers, Blackwood, Fidducia, Steadham, Drogin,
Rogstad 2012), Miranda warnings are inherently incomprehensible to juveniles because they
demand an advanced level of reading comprehension most often not yet attained by the juveniles.
The study consolidated a sum of 293 juvenile Miranda warnings issued in 238 counties in 38 states
and used the Flesch Kincaid, a commonly accepted estimate of grade level used in other Miranda
related research and that corresponds with standardized reading tests, to gauge grade level
estimates. Rogers et al. found that 2.2% of Miranda waivers were written at a college graduate
level, 5.2% necessitated some college preparation, and 52.1% of Miranda warnings necessitated at
least an eighth grade education, which poses a significant threat to particularly underserved preteen
suspects. Only 7.3% of juvenile warnings were marked as easily comprehensible or at below a fifth
grade education level, which would optimize juvenile comprehension. It s significant to note that
juveniles cannot then intelligently waive their Miranda rights if the language exceeds their reading
comprehension level. Grisso et al. demonstrate this understanding of juveniles developmental
immaturity in their comprehensive study concerning

changed significantly concerning economic growth, development, and social welfare parameters.
Over the years, few countries have emerged as prominent players in the global economy and have

which, concerning the scenario in Canada, can be elaborated as follows:
Chronic Homelessness This type of homelessness refers to the problem of long term lack of
shelter, which accounts for homelessness of nearly 4000 to 8000 people in the country.
Episodic Homelessness The residents in the country who move in and out of the shelters in the

medications can cause a worse effect on the mental status thus leading to possible suicide.
According to the American Foundation For Suicide Prevention, there is only one medication that is
approved by the FDA for suicide risk reduction in people that have schizophrenia and that is
clozapine ( Treatment AFSP. ). There should be more medications out there for the ones that need
the medication for their disorder. To treat depression, there is about 22 medications that are
currently approved by the FDA, one of the most common one is an antidepressant which takes
about 4 12 weeks to start feeling the affects, but within the first couple weeks you can see a

Trojan War Essay
In the book The Trojan War, by Bernard Evslin, Ulysses and Agamemnon both contribute to the
Greek s victory. Many considered Ulysses to be the real brains behind the Greek forces. Although
Agamemnon was the leader of the Greeks, many would say he was not a good one. Even though
Agamemnon did some good deeds during the war, many of his actions caused problems, and
Ulysses often had to come to his rescue.
With Ulysses on the Greeks side they had amazing intelligence and bravery. Many great things
happened because of Ulysses leadership. One example is when Ulysses dressed as a peddler, found
where Achilles was hiding, and brought him back to fight in the war. Ulysses knew he had to ...

His stupidity and arrogance made him unfit for leadership. An example of him being selfish is
when he sacrificed his own daughter, Iphegehia, to the gods so he would have good luck and a
safe journey to and from Troy. When Agamemnon returned home from the war his wife killed
him for sacrificing their lovely daughter. A time showing Agamemnon as ignorant was when he
almost lost all of the troops. He told them it was time to leave the war and head home. He was only
trying to weed out the cowards, but it turned out everyone ran for the ships. Thirdly, he refused to
give back Cressida, his slave girl, when he was supposed to. As a result, Apollo shot arrows of
pestilence at the Greeks. Many Greeks ended up being killed. Lastly, he was selfish and took
Achilles slave girl when his had to be returned. He said, It is my duty to take someone else s slave
to repay me for the loss of the lovely Cressida, for a king deprived is a half a king, and half a king
means defeat in warfare (p 29).
As you can see Ulysses is a brave, smart man who helped lead the Greeks to a tremendous victory.
On the other hand, Agamemnon caused suffering and pain for not only individuals but for all the
men fighting. Some believe that if the Greek troops had not been led by Agamemnon the war
would not have lasted as long. Maybe that statement would be true, maybe not, but we

The Definition of an Educated Person
Our team likes this definition of an educated person. We understand that if you go to school, you
will learn a subject well. But we also understand that many of us will see career paths that are not
traditional, or linear in nature. We will work in fields that are not what we studied. If all we
learned was basic skills and knowledge, we would cease to be educated the minute we stepped
away from our chosen field of study. What the Michigan State University is trying to say is that
educationis more than just learninga few things to get a degree. Education being an educated
person really does mean being able to continuously learn. To have knowledge and to know how to
use it are both components of being educated.
We feel, therefore, that the definition of an educated person put forth by Michigan State
University is very accurate. The statement is succinct, so that we might not want to add anything
to the definition. It implies that the process of becoming an educated person is something that
will deliver a lifetime of value, rather than simply a skill that can be used to get a job. This
lifetime value is one of the reasons why an education usually pays for itself manifold down the
road, as students who become educated people are more adaptable, more successful and better able
to succeed when placed in difficult situations. Adversity is not discussed in the definition, but is
definitely something that could be mentioned in a discussion of what it means to be an educated

The Pros And Cons Of DDT
Summary of Issue:
DDT has been used since WW2 as an insecticide to control the outbreak of malaria and typhus
among troops and civilians. This is because malaria is spread by mosquitos and DDT was
considered to be a powerful in eliminating these populations, thus decreasing the infection rate for
malaria. Since it was first discovered as an insecticide, worldwide it was used in very large amounts
because nobody knew any better and it was considered to be revolutionary. It wasn t until 1962,
when biologist Rachel Carson first outlined the potential harm DDT has on the environment,
believing it caused cancer in humans and harmed bird wildlife. This led to the United Stated ban of
DDT use in 1972, and later, a worldwide ban under the Stockholm

Western Religion
The main Western religions are Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. The common core of these three
religions is faith or belief in one God. Mysticism is a constellation of distinctive practices,
discourses texts, institutions, traditions, and experiences aimed at human transformation, variously
defined in different traditions. Spirituality is a process of re formation which aims to recover the
original shape of man, the image of God. Western Christianityconsists of the Latin Church,
Catholic Church, and a variety of Protestant denominations. Some of the central beliefs of
Christianity are that Jesus is the son of God. The Trinity, which is the Father, the Son and the Holy
Spirit. The Holy Spirit allows God to be alive on this earth. Jesus s... Show more content on

They believe in only one God and that Muhammad is the last prophet of Allah and that he is the
seal of the prophets. In Islam they believe that Jesus is one of the 28 prophets. Muslims go by
the Qur an and that those are the words from Allah to Muhammad and the middle man was The
Angel Gabriel. Muslims believe that god knows how your life is already going to be, kind of
like Christianity. Also another thing that Islam and Christianity have in common is that when
you die you will be going to heaven if you were a good Christian or Muslim or if you were not, you
would be sent to hell. Another core belief Islam have are that angels are like a middle man with
God and The Prophets. Spirituality in the Islam religion is just like your everyday life if you are a
Muslim. Everything is spiritual because all of the things you do must be okay with God s
pleasure. Spirituality in Islam is a daily check with God and making sure everything you do is okay
with God s pleasure. Islam mysticism is called Sufis and their way to life is

Informative Speech On Hypnosis
My dad had taken my best friend, his brother, and me to a hypnosis show. At the time I thought
that hypnotism couldn t be real, and that he pays people to say as he does. He asks for volunteers,
and of course my dad s brother volunteers and is chosen. He then starts following the commands,
tapping, snoring, and dancing. Watching a six foot tall, 200 pound man dance in front of hundreds
of people may have changed my mind, and unless he was on payroll, hypnosishad to be real. So
what is hypnosis, what are common misconceptions and myths, and what are different types of
hypnosis? Today I will be answering these three questions.
Hypnosis is one to the most controversial and misunderstood way of psychological healing. It gives
you the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the hypnotist isn t picking at random he s searching for the easiest, and most willing
volunteers, because his or her job is to put on a show. Also the way the hypnotist presents them
self is key. If they were to say they were a part time actor and will pretend to be a hypnotist it is
going to be nearly impossible to hypnotize anyone. But if they say they are a famous hypnotist,
who has traveled the world changing lives, and who can hypnotize the audience in 1 minute,
almost 90% of the people will already be in hypnosis, according to self hypnosis. The last type of
hypnosis I will be talking about, which to me is the most intriguing form of hypnotherapy, is
past life regression. This technique helps practitioners uncover memories of their past lives. By
uncovering these memories, you are able to find out why you are the way you are. If you are
having trouble in your current life that has no direct cause, the goal is to find out the root cause of
the issue from your past life or incarnation. Whether you are strictly religious or not, past life
regression helps you gain an awareness that you are more than just a physical body.
Now that you are aware of what hypnosis is and the different forms of it, let s talk about common
myths and misconceptions people have about hypnosis. Number one, the hypnotist can make you
do something against your will. This is completely wrong, hypnotist only guide you to places, and
if there is somewhere you don t want to go you

The Moon Watching Blind Man Summary
Joseph Yamaguchi
Ancient Comedies

The Moon viewing Blind Man, Easter and Western Thought
Are humans animalistic savages or have we evolved long enough to have shed our animalistic
nature? Has society created separation between individuals so great that we have resorted to our
animalistic nature of fending for ourselves or has it always been there? Questions that make us
rethink our stance on who we really are. In philosophy, the animalist doctrine states that humans are
animals in their essential identity and are persons only through their contingent properties. This
idea affects man and makes us question our own existence and progress in our daily lives. This
duality of man, animal and human aspect such as compassion and thought. can be further extended
to Nietzsche idea of the Apollonian and Dionysian sides of man and the influence this idea had on
the development of modern philosophy pertaining to existentialism. This dichotomy of the multiple
sides of man would appear in the philosophical movement of Edo Neo Confucianism, one of the
main philosophy of the later Azuchi Momoyama period through the Edo period, as well as showing
a connection in both eastern and western philosophy. This idea of the dualism of man is shown in
the Kyogen The Moon viewing Blind Man where the playwright displays this idea of man s
internal struggle between the Apollonian side in contrast to one s Dionysian side and how one can
digress to a primitive state when the eyes of

  • 2. Fluid Balance Essay Case 1 1. The first way in which this patient s fluid balance is altered is by the presence of vomiting noted by the emergency department. Vomiting can cause a significant loss of electrolytes as well. The patient also has a fever of 102.3, which has probably caused some heat release by sweating leading to fluid loss. The doctor notes the patient is breathing quickly which indicates he may be losing fluid through hyperventilation. The large quantity of alcohol consumed by this patient also contributes to the alteration of fluid balance by inhibiting the pituitary gland from secreting anti diuretic hormone (ADH) which acts directly on the kidneys to reabsorb water. There are a lot of themes in the play that goes on and teaches about the ambition, the guilt, the fate versus free will concept and how things are not what they seem. Therefore, all of those factor into how Macbeth is a very interesting and very captivating story. Shortly after Macbeth hears the prophecies of him becoming the Thane of Cawdor and the King of Scotland, and after becoming the Thane of Cawdor a few moments later, he writes a letter to Lady Macbeth about what he is thinking, which at the time is how he wants to do away with King Duncan. ... the fatal entrance of Duncan under my battlements. Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, and fill me from the crown to the toe tap full of direst cruelty (I. v. 40 44). Lady Macbeth says to herself after hearing of Duncans arrival to Inverness. Lady Macbeth then wants to have the strength to kill him by making her strong like a man. Later on, when Macduff flees to England to find Malcolm to raise an army to take back the throne of Scotland from a tyrant, Macduff says to Malcolm after Malcolm says he is very greedy and unfit to be king; Scotland has enough treasures to satisfy you out of your own royal coffers (IV. iii. 90 91). Figure 1 Figure 2 (Parker, 2013) (D Angelo, 2013) 3 Threat of New Entrants The three dominant players have taken the early mover advantage to grow their businesses. High level of adoption and efficient production are essential in this industry because consoles are traditionally sold at a loss and revenues are made up by licensing games to developers. This makes it very a difficult industry for new entrants. New technology incurs high cost of capital in research and development (R D) and low product differentiation requires advertising and marketing. Their brand establishment, together with their capabilities to make high investments in required fields have helped the three firms to gain industry specific expertise, fast paced technological capability, and strong brand loyalty which keep the threat of new entrants moderately low (Wingfield, 2013). Power of Suppliers Each firm generates revenues from the profit margins on hardware (gaming consoles) and software (game) sales, both suppliers are therefore integral. • 6. Sustainable Economic Growth And The New Zealand Economy Essay An introduction that describes what sustainable economic growth is and why it is desirable for households, firms and Government Sustainable economic growth can be seen an improvement of the economy to optimise New Zealand s quality of life for citizens by maintaining price stability (inflation) within the range of 1 3% with a focus on 2% and to reduce unemployment in New Zealand, with resources (land, labour, entrepreneurial and capital) used to their fullest capacity to produce goods and services. Sustainable economic growth as defined by Economics Online UK suggests Sustainable economic growth means a rate of growth which can be maintained without creating other significant economic problems, especially for future generations. There is clearly a trade off between rapid economic growth today, and growth in the future , there is also a trade off between the materialistic standard of living and environmental and resource depletion in the future as some non renewable resources may be used up in the process of producing a greater quantity of goods that has been demanded when growth occurs in the New Zealand economy. Sustainable economic growth is desirable for Households of New Zealand as it generally means that unemployment levels would decrease from the current rate of 5.6%, resulting in a higher disposable income for New Zealand Households as their incomes would increase from receiving a larger portion of income, resulting in an increase in aggregate demand of goods and ... Many drunk drivers are careless and do not realize the damage that they can cause to many people s lives. Even though my uncle did not die he was still severely injured and it made my whole family aware of the pain of these accidents. These accidents can happen to anybody. The Industrial revolution has formed the way we live today in countless more ways than you can envision, yet it occurred so long ago. The revolution started in the United Kingdom, then binged throughout Western Europe, North America and ultimately the rest of the world. The Industrial revolutionhas also impacted the way us creatures live and act. Even if we don t recall the event it has assuredly wedged us in many ways like in our cultures and in our self being. Before the Industrial Revolution started we were alive in a time where possessions were hand made. Where we required to pick the resources to make things ourselves. The individuals of that era existed in small settlements where agriculture was very shared and general. It was the basis for money and also the basis for food. People completed and sold things that were grown or made, gradually and prudently. All was well, but there was also a want for upgrading to make life easier. We desired cooler ways to carry materials, and we also had a want for inexpensive and quicker production. This is why we were in necessity of development in the industrial industry. • 9. Taxes In America Essay Taxes are accumulated from the people for two main purposes in today s world. First, they are used to provide for a number of public goods, such as infrastructure and public education. Second, these taxes are used to redistribute income from the economically successful to the less successful. Taxes are a massive component for any country; they are used to help grow and provide for a number of sufficient facilities to its numerous citizens. Without taxes in our country, it is extremely hard to fund the systems that are a necessity for society to operate as it should. Taxrates depend upon a country s economic and social goals. In the following paragraphs, the views of America s liberals, conservatives, and then my personal views on this topic will be shown. This work by Gutzon was not just mere sensationalism or commercialism, as has normally been the angle of reporters, but instead this will take on the historic aspect as it was originally intended to bring out. HISTORY History: The Beginning It started as an idea to draw sightseers, but in 1923 state historian Doane Robinson suggested carving some giant statues in South Dakota s Black Hills. Robinson was not the first American to think that a big country demanded big art. As early as 1849, Missouri Senator Thomas Hart Benton proposed a super scale Christopher Columbus in the Rocky Mountains (1). In 1886 the 150 foot Statue of Liberty was unveiled. In the 1920 s, an unconventional sculptor named Gutzon Borglum was carving a Confederate memorial on Stone Mountain in Georgia. Robinson wanted his sculptures to stand at the gateway to the west, where the Black Hills rise from the plains as a geographical prelude to the Rocky Mountains. • 11. Emancipationawassone Of The American Civil War Emancipationawassone of the most profound consequences of the American Civil War. During and after the war, about four million enslaved African Americans in the United States became free persons. This generation had a significant influence on American history, an influence that has yet to be fully recognized. During this remarkable period of transition, former slaves stabilized their family lives, sought to control their work environments, established their own schools and churches, and participated in public life as citizens. While these goals may appear straightforward to us today, they were anything but simple to achieve at the time. The transition from slavery to freedom was as extraordinary as it was complex. Newly freed African Americans experienced both boundless joy and excruciating disappointment as they established themselves as free persons. Freed people frequently encountered violent resistance to their efforts to become paid workers and active citizens. Many white southerners refused to accept former slaves as free persons. The state of Tennessee provides a particularly rich case study of the transition from slavery to freedom during the Civil War and Reconstruction. Second only to Virginia in the number of skirmishes and battles on its soil, Tennessee was at the heart of the conflict between North and South. The chaos of war visited many Tennessee communities and served to break down the bonds that kept 275,000 individuals enslaved. Most Tennessee ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Employees want information about what they are required to do (or confirmation of what they think they are supposed to do) in their jobs or positions. The operative word here is do . They typically do not want to know what they are supposed to be . This simple representation of leadership requirements helps us establish a context for evaluating leadership competencies and frameworks/models. Those that are stated only as traits, characteristics, or in attribute terms are, in our estimation, less valuable than those that are stated in task, function, and behavioral terms. However, models that address both aspects of leadership may prove to be more valuable to more individuals. The purpose in establishing competencies for leaders should be to better define what functions leaders must perform to make themselves and others in their organizations effective. Many competency definitions include reference to clusters of knowledges, skills, abilities, and traits that lead to successful performance (Newsome, Catano, Day, 2003). Yet competency labels are typically expressed in either process or functional terms. This can lead to confusion as to what competencies actually represent for leadership and organizations. Competency frameworks or models should serve as the roadmap to individual and organizational leader success. The value of competencies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Brazil Power In South America Although, Brazil has not fully attained the international power that its leaders covet, Brazil s diplomatic capabilities through foreign policy, immense territorial size, and increasing economic power has allowed them to establish their current position as a rising international power. The foundation of Brazil s acquisition of dominance in the international community began during the 1990 s when President Fernando Henrique Cardoso opted to shift their foreign policy from autonomy through distance to autonomy through participation (Vigevani and Cepaluni, 2007, p. 1311). One of the most notable cause of tension stemmed from Brazil s desire to obtain a permanent seat on the United Nation Security Council being undermined from the U.S. s lack of support (Snow, 2014, p. 218). • 19. Van Gogh Essay Van Gogh Essay In this essay I am going to discuss Vincent Van Gogh and post Impressionism. Vincent Willem van Gogh (March 1853 29 July 1890) was a Dutch post Impressionist painter whose work, notable for its rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold color, had a far reaching influence on 20th century art. After years of painful anxiety and frequent bouts of mental illness, he died aged 37 from a gunshot wound, generally accepted to be self inflicted (although no gun was ever found). His work was then known to only a handful of people and appreciated by fewer still. France in the late 19th century was in the rule of the ambitious Napoleon III. Prussian prime minister, Otto von Bismarck waged war on France, capturing Paris and claiming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh has risen to the peak of artistic achievements. Although Van Gogh sold only one painting in his life, the aftermath of his work is enormous. Starry Night is one of the most well known images in modern culture as well as being one of the most replicated and sought after prints. One may begin to ask what features within the painting are responsible for its ever growing popularity. There are actually several main aspects that intrigue those. Firstly here is the night sky filled with swirling clouds, stars ablaze with their own luminescence, and a bright crescent moon. Although the features are exaggerated, this is a scene we can all relate to, and also one that most individuals feel comfortable and at ease with. This sky keeps the viewer s eyes moving about the painting, following the curves and creating a visual dot to dot with the stars. This movement keeps the onlooker involved in the painting while the other factors take hold.Secondly below the rolling hills of the horizon lies a small town. There is a peaceful essence flowing from the structures. Perhaps the cool dark colors and the fiery windows spark memories of our own warm childhood years filled with imagination of what exists in the night and dark starry skies. The center point of the town is the tall steeple of the church, reigning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Procrastination In High School I can easily say that procrastination was something I struggled with throughout my high school career. It was so easy for me to choose a football game or a night out with friends over studying or doing homework. Even though school work is obviously more important than hanging out with friends, I prioritized my social status. I thought it was the biggest worry in my life, but now that I am in college, I know that my social life must come second to school work. I spent so much time trying to impress people that I haven t spoken a word to since graduation. It is embarrassing to think about how I portrayed myself in high schooland how I thought being the top dog was the key to success. Looking back, I wish all the time I wasted thinking about how others viewed me had been spent studying and focusing on school work. Once during my sophomore year of high school, we had our first major project due in biology, a good old fashioned leaf project. It was due in the middle of September, and fall was in full bloom. Which means the leaves were changing, dying and falling off the tree. For the assignment we were required to collect thirty two different types of leaves. The leaves had to be in pristine condition, labeled, pressed, and in a scrapbook for the project to be complete. I spent all my time going to football games, soccer games, and involved myself in to many events. I had play practice everyday, got home late and then went straight to bed. This can also prevent the family from trying to get any services for the fear of being deported back to Guatemala. Especially since Mrs. Lopez family was recently deported to Mexico. Do to their legal status in the United States, the family has to deal with oppression. In the United States, there are several services that are only provided to people who are legal, but others do not request a legal status. The family could possibly fear deportation if they request any type of services. As for Mr. Lopez legal status, he cannot apply for a better paying job. She fights for people like her who have been bullied. Down syndrome is a disability where a person has more than two of the chromosome 21 (Routh 6). There are three different types of Down syndrome, Standard Trisomy 21, Translocation, and Mosaic Down syndrome. Standard trisomy is the most common type of Down syndrome, and it appears in ninety five percent of all Down syndrome cases. Translocation is when a patient has an extra piece broken off the original chromosome 21. It sticks onto another chromosome. It sometimes can be inherited. The final type is Mosaic, which has an extra chromosome 21 in some cells, but not all. With Mosaic, the harshness of some effects depends on the number of cells that have an extra chromosome 21 and where they are located (14). Overall about 4,000 people are affected by Down syndrome. • 24. Essay about The Digital Millennium Copyright Act The Digital Millennium Copyright Act Signed into law by President Clinton on October 28, 1998, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) was the foundation of an effort by Congress to implement United States treaty obligations and to move the nation s copyright law into the digital age. ( Executive Summary DMCA Report ) While this seems a valid description of the law, perhaps a more accurate interpretation lies in the following statement: The DMCA is a piece of legislation rushed through Congress by the entertainment industry lobbyists to protect its monopoly on commercially developed digital content, cartels, price fixing, and to maintain its status quo as the single entity that can direct what should be popular or used by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the DMCA is often used by copyright holders to successfully fight Napster like services and protect their anticopying technology . (Thibodeau 41) While it may seem logical that copyright holders want to protect their technology and interests, the truth is that the law impinges on the right of consumers to copy content. (Thibodeau 41) Obviously there is a conflict of interests at issue and a consensus is needed to protect both consumers as well as copyright holders. However, violating the founding principles of the nation, and citizen s rights to freedom of speech is not the answer. Further, in court rulings related to the DMCA, the courts have imposed liability and enjoined conduct for what in other contexts would be considered fair use or freedom of the press. In addition, the DMCA has been used to stifle academic research, and to arrest and indict a Russian programmer who had come to the United States to present a paper at a conference. These cases and actions raise questions as to whether Congress has changed the established rules, rather than just modernizing them, for the digital era. (Ottaviani C1) This conduct demonstrates the great abuse of the DMCA in relation to the First Amendment; freedom of speech is the most important freedom granted to United States citizens and it must be protected. Before the DMCA was enacted, manufacturers of devices that permitted one to copy works generally considered themselves protected by the fair use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. The Greatest Strength By Jim Collins Essay Greatness is often sought but rarely had. Jim Collins, like many of his readers, has, however, achieved greatness in his writing of Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap and Others Don t. Good to Great is less of an examination of how good companies become great but more of an analysis of leadershipand social skills embraced by society s most successful through the lens of the business world. This is the book s greatest strength; by delivering concise information that can be utilized on the personal level, Collins is able to broadcast what would normally be considered mundane business talk by most in a fashion that is both interesting and actionable to the book s more than 4,000,000 buyers. Achieving best seller status, Good to Great aims to help individuals with a background in business, politics and other leadership backgrounds become best sellers, themselves, in their respective fields. By breaking down informational content into its simplest forms, providing ample evidence, repeatedly engaging in repetition, and by tag lining the most important themes and ideas, Collins hits the mark. Good to Great is methodical in its approach of conveying its information. Each chapter has a prevailing theme that focuses in on a key area such as the hedgehog concept which Collins suggests businesses use to determine the model under which they will operate. Additionally, each chapter seems distinct, yet related to the preceding and succeeding one, lacing the book together ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. The Queer Reading Of Nick Gatsby As insane as this sounds, I ve done the research. It s plausible. The idea isn t original; it was first proposed by Carlyle Thompson, a professor of African American and American literature at Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York. There s actually quite a bit of evidence to support it, just as there is to support the queer reading of Nick. Gatsby is described by Nick, his tanned skin and short hair look as though it were trimmed every day (Fitzgerald 50). The short hair and the appearance of daily trimmings could definitely refer to the grooming habits of African Americanmen. Gatsby s West Egg mansion is on more than 40 acres of lawn and garden (Fitzgerald 5), which is specifically interesting, because freed slaves were to be given 40 acres and a mule by decree of Sherman s Special Field Orders, No. 15. More than is stated, but instead of giving us that exact number it could be 41 acres or 400 but we re given 40. It should be noted that 40 acres and a mule was oft promised, but a promise not always kept and inconsistently applied (Oubre 79). There s an obvious metaphor for a man who feels deserving of something he doesn t get, i.e., Daisy. Gatsby would be unlikely to achieve the level of success he did in the roaring 20s if he were black, and some of the upper crust white folk would be likely to notice or take issue with his race, so it s only a plausible theory if he were able to pass himself off as white. There is evidence for this, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Kirk Douglas as Whit Sterling plays the ruthless gangster czar in the film. The formal cinematic elements in the movie are used to vividly describe the movie. He is telling his flashback to Ann, a girl he s in love with. The time period is set three years back and is narrated by Jeff. The flashback is the backbone of the movie because it shows the audience how the whole situation started and ended. Over half the movie is told through the flashback which is important because it shows that the character chooses to focus on the past instead of the present. The flashback is told because Jeff is going to Lake Tahoe to handle some unfinished business and he decides to let Ann in on the truth. Jeff was working for Whit and was assigned to find the girl who stole Whit s money. The flashback goes into great detail throughout the whole situation. The theme passion is shown when Jeff meets up with Kathie. Soon enough he forgets all about getting the forty grand and returning Kathie to Whit. Jeff fell for Kathie so they ran away to San Francisco. The characters in the flashback are shown to be a litte edgy. • 28. The General Behavior Model Is Developed By Ludwig Brenner... GEBMO or the General Behavior Model was developed by Ludwig Brenner as a way to predict hazards before they happened. Brenner devised a system of scenarios that could occur with multiple factors for each element. The system is basically designed on a cause effect relationship. One thing happens because of another which leads to a result (Haight, 2012). This model was used to develop an emergency action plan for a small community surrounding a gas station. The first step to any emergency action plan is to conduct a hazard assessment and the best way conduct to do that is to conduct a walk through of the facility or area (Haight, 2012). In this scenario, our facility is a service station with fuel holding tanks and convenience store items which is located in close proximity to the center of town, a housing development, an elementary school, playground, baseball field, and wooded area. The nature of the business makes it a hazard, the location of it makes it a hazard to the community. Using the General Behavior Model, possible hazards and their reactions, as well as ways to prevent them are discussed. When working with fuels such as gasoline and diesel, physical hazards to humans are possible. Gasoline is highly explosive and flammable, while diesel is flammable. The use of GEBMO is to prevent or reduce the number of fires and explosions. GEBMO is broken down into seven steps. The first step is to predict a stressing event such as a fire when a tanker is ... Kountz REL 105 (05) 9:25 a.m. 10:40 a.m. Spring 2015 In today s society, religion is no doubt a popular, if widely contested, topic. The vast array of belief systems that exists worldwide has a significant influence on the opposing viewpoints of many current hot button issues, and despite the intended separation of church and state here in the United States; religion is both a social and political force. A person s spiritual beliefs often provide the basis for his or her entire lifestyle, including physical appearance, dietary choices, and perhaps most importantly, decisions that directly involve one s perspective of right and wrong. Even those who do not identify with any one particular religion typically have some knowledge of the world s major religions, such as Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, or Islam, simply because of their enormous numbers in terms of followers which continue to rapidly expand. However, beyond these theological giants exists a multitude of smaller, but no less meaningful, other religions. Zoroastrianism, for example, is one of today s smallest religions, with an estimated 200,000 followers (Hartz, p. 8). As a comparison, the Islam religion boasts over one billion followers (Sonn, p. 185). Yet even though modern day Zoroastrianism is not nearly as widespread as its more prominent counterparts, it is nonetheless an important cultural constituent, both due to its ... With several writings concerning him, they all relayed too fantastical an image to be convincing as truthful, keeping him in a legendary status. After several other scholars raced to translate similar writings all over the Indian landscape, it was revealed that this King Piyadasi was the same as King Asoka. Even with his history pieced together, Asoka s history is still legendary. The Importance Of Miranda Warnings Juveniles, particularly younger juveniles, are unable to comprehend the Miranda warning, and, by extension, exercise their Miranda rights, for biological reasons, specifically their developmental immaturity. According to Rogers et al. s study (Rogers, Blackwood, Fidducia, Steadham, Drogin, Rogstad 2012), Miranda warnings are inherently incomprehensible to juveniles because they demand an advanced level of reading comprehension most often not yet attained by the juveniles. The study consolidated a sum of 293 juvenile Miranda warnings issued in 238 counties in 38 states and used the Flesch Kincaid, a commonly accepted estimate of grade level used in other Miranda related research and that corresponds with standardized reading tests, to gauge grade level estimates. Rogers et al. found that 2.2% of Miranda waivers were written at a college graduate level, 5.2% necessitated some college preparation, and 52.1% of Miranda warnings necessitated at least an eighth grade education, which poses a significant threat to particularly underserved preteen suspects. Only 7.3% of juvenile warnings were marked as easily comprehensible or at below a fifth grade education level, which would optimize juvenile comprehension. It s significant to note that juveniles cannot then intelligently waive their Miranda rights if the language exceeds their reading comprehension level. • 42. Trojan War Essay In the book The Trojan War, by Bernard Evslin, Ulysses and Agamemnon both contribute to the Greek s victory. Many considered Ulysses to be the real brains behind the Greek forces. Although Agamemnon was the leader of the Greeks, many would say he was not a good one. Even though Agamemnon did some good deeds during the war, many of his actions caused problems, and Ulysses often had to come to his rescue. With Ulysses on the Greeks side they had amazing intelligence and bravery. Many great things happened because of Ulysses leadership. One example is when Ulysses dressed as a peddler, found where Achilles was hiding, and brought him back to fight in the war. Ulysses knew he had to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His stupidity and arrogance made him unfit for leadership. An example of him being selfish is when he sacrificed his own daughter, Iphegehia, to the gods so he would have good luck and a safe journey to and from Troy. When Agamemnon returned home from the war his wife killed him for sacrificing their lovely daughter. A time showing Agamemnon as ignorant was when he almost lost all of the troops. He told them it was time to leave the war and head home. He was only trying to weed out the cowards, but it turned out everyone ran for the ships. Thirdly, he refused to give back Cressida, his slave girl, when he was supposed to. As a result, Apollo shot arrows of pestilence at the Greeks. Many Greeks ended up being killed. Lastly, he was selfish and took Achilles slave girl when his had to be returned. He said, It is my duty to take someone else s slave to repay me for the loss of the lovely Cressida, for a king deprived is a half a king, and half a king means defeat in warfare (p 29). As you can see Ulysses is a brave, smart man who helped lead the Greeks to a tremendous victory. On the other hand, Agamemnon caused suffering and pain for not only individuals but for all the men fighting. Some believe that if the Greek troops had not been led by Agamemnon the war would not have lasted as long. Maybe that statement would be true, maybe not, but we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Definition of an Educated Person Our team likes this definition of an educated person. We understand that if you go to school, you will learn a subject well. But we also understand that many of us will see career paths that are not traditional, or linear in nature. We will work in fields that are not what we studied. If all we learned was basic skills and knowledge, we would cease to be educated the minute we stepped away from our chosen field of study. What the Michigan State University is trying to say is that educationis more than just learninga few things to get a degree. Education being an educated person really does mean being able to continuously learn. To have knowledge and to know how to use it are both components of being educated. We feel, therefore, that the definition of an educated person put forth by Michigan State University is very accurate. The statement is succinct, so that we might not want to add anything to the definition. It implies that the process of becoming an educated person is something that will deliver a lifetime of value, rather than simply a skill that can be used to get a job. This lifetime value is one of the reasons why an education usually pays for itself manifold down the road, as students who become educated people are more adaptable, more successful and better able to succeed when placed in difficult situations. Adversity is not discussed in the definition, but is definitely something that could be mentioned in a discussion of what it means to be an educated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Informative Speech On Hypnosis My dad had taken my best friend, his brother, and me to a hypnosis show. At the time I thought that hypnotism couldn t be real, and that he pays people to say as he does. He asks for volunteers, and of course my dad s brother volunteers and is chosen. He then starts following the commands, tapping, snoring, and dancing. Watching a six foot tall, 200 pound man dance in front of hundreds of people may have changed my mind, and unless he was on payroll, hypnosishad to be real. So what is hypnosis, what are common misconceptions and myths, and what are different types of hypnosis? Today I will be answering these three questions. Also the way the hypnotist presents them self is key. If they were to say they were a part time actor and will pretend to be a hypnotist it is going to be nearly impossible to hypnotize anyone. But if they say they are a famous hypnotist, who has traveled the world changing lives, and who can hypnotize the audience in 1 minute, almost 90% of the people will already be in hypnosis, according to self hypnosis. The last type of hypnosis I will be talking about, which to me is the most intriguing form of hypnotherapy, is past life regression. This technique helps practitioners uncover memories of their past lives. By uncovering these memories, you are able to find out why you are the way you are. If you are having trouble in your current life that has no direct cause, the goal is to find out the root cause of the issue from your past life or incarnation. Whether you are strictly religious or not, past life regression helps you gain an awareness that you are more than just a physical body. Now that you are aware of what hypnosis is and the different forms of it, let s talk about common myths and misconceptions people have about hypnosis. • 47. The Moon Watching Blind Man Summary Joseph Yamaguchi Ancient Comedies 11/18/17 The Moon viewing Blind Man, Easter and Western Thought Are humans animalistic savages or have we evolved long enough to have shed our animalistic nature? Has society created separation between individuals so great that we have resorted to our animalistic nature of fending for ourselves or has it always been there? Questions that make us rethink our stance on who we really are. In philosophy, the animalist doctrine states that humans are animals in their essential identity and are persons only through their contingent properties. This idea affects man and makes us question our own existence and progress in our daily lives. This duality of man, animal and human aspect such as compassion and thought. can be further extended to Nietzsche idea of the Apollonian and Dionysian sides of man and the influence this idea had on the development of modern philosophy pertaining to existentialism. This dichotomy of the multiple sides of man would appear in the philosophical movement of Edo Neo Confucianism, one of the main philosophy of the later Azuchi Momoyama period through the Edo period, as well as showing a connection in both eastern and western philosophy. This idea of the dualism of man is shown in the Kyogen The Moon viewing Blind Man where the playwright displays this idea of man s internal struggle between the Apollonian side in contrast to one s Dionysian side and how one can digress to a primitive state when the eyes of ...
