SCIENCE TODAY – BIOPOL
Biopol is an environment friendly bio degradable plastic made
naturally in plants from starch and
glucose, used by them as an energy
reserve. Biopol is actually the brand
name for a group of bio polymers called
PHAs and PHBs (alcaligens).they are
made for injections moulds, water based
latex products, water-resisting
coatings,fiber,and film .They are insoluble
in water so this means they are great at
resisting water that’s why they are used
as water resisting courts as such.
BIO-PLASTIC
 Bio-plastics is a form of plastic derived from plant
sources such as sweet potatoes , sugarcane , corn
starch , pea starch , soy bean oil , etc.
 Bio-plastics are environmentally friendly because ,
compared with traditional plastics , their production
results in the emission of carbon dioxide , which is
thought to cause global warming.
 They are also biodegradable .
USES OF BIO-PLASTICS
 Bio-plastics are used in many ways. A few are:
 Packaging: shopping bags , trays and
containers for meat , fruits , eggs , bottles and
dairy products . Blisters for fruits and
vegetables .
 Catering products: disposable crockery and
cutlery , bowls , pack foils , straws , etc.
 Agriculture: plant pots for flowering and
vegetable plants.
 Medicine: to produce artificial heart valves ,
tooth reconstruction , bone fracture plates and
artificial skin.
HOW TO MAKE BIO-PLASTIC
 Materials required: 1) starch powder , 2) glycerine ,
3)vinegar , 4)water.
 Method:
 1)Take a non stick vessel and add 2 table spoon of
starch powder and 4 spoons of water in it . Stir it with a
spatula and add one spoon of glycerine , 1 spoons of
vinegar. After that mix them thoroughly and heat it
slowly on a stove.
 2)At first a paste like substance forms. Then , it turns
into a jelly like substance. When it becomes bubble less
and clear , stop heating it. Pour it in a hard plastic tray
and spread it. It takes about a day to dry . Hence you
can get bio-plastic.
ADVANTAGES OF BIO-PLASTICS

DISADVANTAGES OF BIO-PLASTIC
 The main disadvantage oil-based bio-plastic is that when
they break down , carbon dioxide is released in the
process and contributes global warming.
 Another disadvantage of bio-plastic is that degradation
will happen very slowly underground , if it even
disintegrate at all.
 Also , bio-plastic when mixed with normal plastic would
reduce the worth of the plastic itself if it is recycled and
make the recycled plastic useless .
GLOBAL WARMING
Global warming is the rise in the
average temperature of the earth’s
atmosphere and oceans since the late
19th century and its projected
continuation.
GREEN HOUSE AFFECT
 The green house affect is when the temperature
rises because the sun’s heat and light is trapped in
the earth’s atmosphere.

GREEN HOUSE GASSES:
Green house gasses are gasses present in the earth’s
atmosphere that collect heat and light from the sun .
With too many green house gasses in the air the
earth’s atmosphere will trap too much of heat and the
earth will get hot too . A result plants , animal , people
would die because the heat would be too strong.
