Axis of Symmetry Axis of symmetry is a line going through a graph that separates
the parabola into two.
The axis of symmetry ia a vertical line through the vertex of the functions graph. The
quadratic function has the axis of symmetry x=h
Example
Every parabola has an axis of symmetry, the line that runs down its center. The line
divides the graph into two perfect halves. In the picture the axis of symmetry is line
x=1 Vertex
If a parabola opens upward, it has a lowest point. If a parabola opens downward, it
has a highest point. This lowest or highest point is called the Vertex of a parabola
The standard equation of a parabola is
But the equation for a parabola can also be written in vertex form
Example:
Find the vertex of the parabola.
y = 3x2 + 12x 12
So, the x coordinate of the vertex is:
a = 3 and b = 12.
Substituting in the original equation to get the y coordinate, we get:
y = 3( 2)2 + 12( 2) 12 = 24
So, the vertex of the parabola is at ( 2, 24).

Gender in Requiem for a Beast Essay Notes
Picture books through descriptive language and symbolic illustrations can convey
many meanings. In requiem for a beast the bull metaphorically represents many
issues. On one level it represent anger, violence and hatred. On another level it
conveys a road to redemption. The beast also embodies the boys fathers demons
from his past mistakes and can illustrate a theme of memories and how they can help
us deal with our demons.
In the graphic novel the beast is more than just a bull in the sense that it represents
many other characteristics, but it is still a beast because it embodies the aggression,
violence and fear shown in the boy and also in all of us as individuals. The hostility
of the beast is shown through the physical killing ... Show more content on

The boy s physical journey helped him in his emotionally journey as it lead him
into forgetting all the bad things in his life, because there isn t time to think when
your out on the horse droving the cattle. As the boy pursued the bull it became less
of beast but more of a guide that would lead to an escape to freedom and composure
in his life.
Our memories, thoughts and stories are what define us, and in the graphic novel
the bull is depicted as leading us into a reminiscing state. A narrative quote about
the boy is, he was lead by the bull into a world of remembering . The boy wanting
to make his own stories and have his own adventures illustrates this quote and
theme of remembering throughout the book. The boy does not think about where
it is leading him only that the more he remembers the more he is able to grasp the
situation he is in and comprehended what he needs to do. The novel follows two
stories. One is the aboriginal woman and the other is of the boy. They are two very
different stories but together they lead in to a reminiscing journey and then unite
when the boy decides to make contact with the family that has lived for years with a
tragedy that involved for them an unsolved mystery, a mystery for which he has the
answer. The boy grows to love and respect the bull even though he knows he must
destroy it. As he follows the
Realism In Marcel Carne s Les Enfants Du Paradis
Carolina Alvarez Les Enfants du Paradis
The disillusionment of the Germans after World War 1 led to the rise of the racist
Nazi Party. They put the blame on innocent Jewish people as the cause of all their
problems. The Nuremburg laws were the beginning of the harsh treatment of the
scapegoats. Hitler planned to invade Europe to create his perfect society of blonde
haired, blue eyed Aryans. As Germany was invading France in 1940, the lives of
the French would change in every aspect of their lives. In Marcel Carne s Les
Enfants du Paradis, one can see that it fits into other movies that were made during
the German invasion of France. It follows the restrictions that were put on by Nazi
Party but also broke some rules to keep their artistic integrity and used it as a
means of escapism for the people of France. Les Enfants du Paradis tells the story
in a poetic realist way that was a very popular movie in 1945. Poetic realism centers
around working class characters and the theme of doomed love, the blending of
comedy and tragedy, the use of long shots and long takes, and narratives that
function as critiques of society (Glover). The movie revolves around 4 male
characters and their doomed love for a woman who choices affect everyone. Rotten
Tomatoes describes it as:
Even in 1945, Marcel Carne s Children of Paradise was regarded as an old fashioned
film. Set in the Parisian theatrical world of the 1840s, Jacques Prevert s screenplay

BCA Application on Being a Doctor
Being a doctor is in my family blood. Before my mother immigrated to the US, she
was a gynecologist in China. I could tell from her vivid talking and the gleam in
her eyes that there is nothing more precious than the joy of watching a new baby
being brought into the world. She would always talk about how much she missed
the time spent at the hospital. Every day, she would work for more than twelve
hours, but all her tiredness would be forgotten once she heard the first cry of a baby.
It was as if being the doctormade all the stress disappear into her eyes, and all the
happiness would wash over her face. My grandma did not receive any college
education due to the culture revolution of China at that time. However, she was hard
working, and she was self taught to become an expert in alternative medicine. During
her first trip to the US, she instantly became popular in our local Senior Center. All
the elderly going there loved her Chinese massage.
When I was a little kid, visiting the hospital was not unusual for me because I was
always sick. I frequently noticed that the waiting lines at the hospital were very
long. I often had to wait hours before I could receive any treatment. Seeing myself
and all of the other patients suffering in the waiting queue, I asked myself, why
could not I become a doctor and help myself and all those in need? Since then,
becoming a doctor is part of my dream. Around the age of ten, I discovered the

A Brief Note On Oxycontin Pills Essay
One day, I came home from the local pharmacy with Dusty s medication,
specifically oxycontin pills. Just after I closed the front door, I saw Vinyl put a
blanket over him, then tucking an icepack beneath it to help keep his temperate
cooler. Hey, I said. How d he doing?
He s holding in there, Vinyl said, mustering a smile.
I walked over to her, kissed her on the cheek. I have his medication, I said, placing
the white paper bag on the coffee table. How are you doing, Vinyl? You haven t been
to bed in days. Maybe you should get some rest with me tonight.
Dusty dragged his head off his pillow. I ve been telling her that for the past few days
now, but she won t move an inch.
I looked at Vinyl, smiled. It s okay. Take as much time as you need with him, Vinyl.
I understand. You know where to find me if you ever need me. I caressed her cheek
and kissed her afterwards. Then I left the room.

Two months after the wedding unfolded, Houser and Starlee came over for dinner
one night. Vinyl and I made a daisy salad, green beans, and some white rice to go
with it. After we ate, we sipped freshly brewed black tea and played crazy eights in
groups of four. Vinyl and I were teamed up, competing against Houser and Starlee,
and Dusty was lying on the couch watching us play intensely; he would sometimes
give off a suppressed peal of laughter when he saw Vinyl nudging me to the side for
losing a match; I witnessed that smile of his again, the one he d always given me

five focus points of which they feel are the strongest and most important issues to
focus on. These topics include: Earth, Immigration, Racism, Women, and
Nonviolence. While all five topics are important, the Sisters of Mercy work
towards ending violence. The Sisters of Mercy focus on the violence of the
community as well as how it surrounds school settings. Every day, a person is put
into danger because of the place they live in. Starting from a young age and being in

neighborhoods are and have been experiencing persistent and disproportionately
high levels of violence. It ripples through families and communities and should be
a matter of concern to every Chicago resident (Chicago Sun Times). These people
live their lives with an unknown fear today. Everyday they question their safety as
they live in the city. As this connects to schools, students should feel safe at school.
The classroom is meant to be a safe environment where they can learn about the

Queen Victoria Influence On Society

The Code Of Hammurabi Code
In 1750 B.C. a new king of babylonia arose by the name of Hammurabi. He
continued his reign up until 1792 B.C. but most importantly his reign did not go
unforgotten. During his reign he was in charge of giving punishments to the
wrongdoings of his citizens. As he conquered other cities and his empire grew he
saw the need to unify groups he controlled, he was concerned about keeping order
in his kingdom. In order to achieve this goal, he needed one universal set of laws for
all the people he conquered thus he created the Hammurabi code.
The code of Hammurabi is the most remarkable and complete code of ancient law
that we have. The code can be found on a stele, a stone slab usually to
commemorate military victories in the ancient world. His code, a collection of 282
laws and standards, stipulated rules for commercial interactions and set fines and
punishments to meet the requirements of justice. Most punishments resulting of
death or loss of limb if a law was broken. The edicts ranged from family law to
professional contracts and administrative law, often outlining different standards of
justice for the three classes of Babylonian society. The Hammurabi Code was issued
on the three classes of Babylonian Society, property owners, freemen and slaves. It
was important as it organized the most civilized empire at that times , and
Hammurabi made many copies of it and distributed them in the most important cities
of the empire , so it represented a great progress to the human
Case Study Of Pneumonia And Chronic Pulmonary Disease
Case Study for Pneumonia Our nose and airway filters germs out of the air that we
breathe in order to prevent our lungs from becoming infected. However, when
germs does enters our lungs, it may cause infections such as Pneumonia which
inflames the air sacs of the lungs, which can range from mild case to severe cases.
The air sac may be filled with fluid or pus causing cough that associates with phlegm,
fever, chills and difficulty breathing. The causes of pneumonia are extrinsic and
intrinsic. The extrinsic factors include exposure to pulmonary irritants or pulmonary
injury such as those who works in construction or agriculture. Inhaling dusk,
chemicals and air pollution or toxic fumes can damage your lungs and make them
more vulnerable for infection. Intrinsic factors are related to the host such as stroke,
endotracheal intubation, diabetes, chronic pulmonary disease, human
immunodeficiency or emphysema. Smoking and alcohol abuse could also be a
factor because it damages the cilia in the lungs that help remove bacteria and germs.
Alcohol abuse can put you at risk of aspiration pneumonia especially when you
vomit and the small particles enter your lungs. In addition, alcohol interferes with
the white blood cell production which us responsible in fighting infection in our
body. Types of Pneumonia and Risk Factors There are several types pneumonia and
each are named on how an individual is infected or for the germs that causes it.

The Different Lives of Jake Barnes and Brett Ashley in...
In the novel The Sun Also Rises we read about two characters that seem to depend
on each other. Ernest Hemingway writes this story ingeniously to show how these
two characters are intertwined with one another. One character can t get away from
the other because of the friendship they share. We have to look at the lives of Jake
Barnes and Brett Ashley from both points of view to understand how they are
complicated.
Brett Ashley was a different type of lady. She drinks all the time and enjoys the
company of men. When she feels unhappy she drinks more. Hemingway s character

He served in war and lost his ability to physically pleasure women. He tries to enjoy

is an author and works his office in Paris. Fishing and watching bull fights are his
hobbies. In Pamplona, Jake and his guests were allowed to stay at the Hotel Montoya
because Jake was considered an aficionado.
Aficion means passion. An aficionado is one who is passionate about
the bull fights. All the good bull fighters stayed at Montoya s hotel;
that is, those with aficion stayed there. The commercial bull fighters
stayed once, perhaps, and then did not come back. (136)
Jake loses his aficionado status when he introduces Brett to Pedro. Jake s biggest
fault is his love for Brett because she will only love him as a good dependable friend.
Jake and Brett s relationship with one another is ridiculous. Brett goes out with
other men and gets drunk. Jake loves and hates Brett for the actions she takes. Brett
tells Jake that she loves him and talks about the other men she has been with. Jake
tells her that she is being drunk and to shut up about it. Brett leaves the men she has

Mcgee Cake Co Essay example
Minicase The McGee Cake Company
1.What are the advantages and disadvantages of changing the company organization
from a sole proprietorship to a LLC?
The McGee Cake Company, currently operating as a sole proprietorship, may
benefit from forming a limited liability company (LLC). An LLC is a comparatively
new type of business entity. With an LLC there are reduced legal formalities in
comparison to setting up a corporation. In addition, unlike a corporation, the
McGees could set up an LLC yet remain the sole owners of the company. Another
advantage as the owners of an LLC, the McGees are taxable only for personal
income and not for the income of your LLC. Therefore, they would not pay double
income tax. An LLC also has a long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a corporation, the McGees may be able to find new sources of funds for
business development. Many people, including shareholders, could invest in the
corporation. Finally, the corporation is the most reliable and trusted form of
business entity. A possible downside to incorporation, the McGees may have to put
up some of their private assets as a guarantee for the repayment of funds to
financial institutions, if they are not found eligible for payment of money.
Incorporation is not a small ordeal; it involves many legal formalities, laws,
agreement documents, etc. It is necessary to prepare and revue all these
documents carefully. Additionally, setting up the corporation will be an expensive
task. There are good and bad aspects to a corporation in reference to taxes. With a
corporation, the McGees will be taxable for self income, as well as for the
corporation s revenue. However they will enjoy personal tax credits as with the sole
proprietorship.
3.Ultimately, what action would you recommend the company undertake? Why?
After reviewing the pros and cons to LLC and corporation business structures, as
well as the business strategy of the McGee Cake Company, I would recommend to
Doc and Lyn that they form a corporation to move the company forward. Although
initial set of a corporation up may be complicated and have some cost, the potential
for the company is great. The scope of the possibility is what makes the corporation

Margaret Sanger Biography Essay
Margaret Sanger was one of the most influential women of the progressive era.
While both a suffragist and an avid women s rights advocate, she worked tirelessly
on her goal to create a safe and effective birth control method, though many people
thought her work to be evil and sacrilegious. But despite her opposition, she was in
the end successful and inspired countless others in the process through her selfless
work and her desire to help others.
Sanger grew up in a large family and while working as a nurse, she saw first the
many problems that overpopulation was causing and had the potential to cause

She believed it was her duty to place motherhood on a higher level than
enslavement and accident (Sanger) and in doing so, make motherhood an option.
Up to this point in history, that was considered a woman s duty to have and raise
children, but Sanger saw things differently. Sanger saw the desperation of the
women who had more children than they could handle and wanted to make a
difference. Sanger collected 250,000 letters from women and published them in a
book called Motherhood in Bondage, which contained messages from these
women. One particularly moving one reads I have two small children twenty
months apart, the baby now seven weeks old and am twenty one years myself. You
might know what this means to me to care for two babies at this age when it
simply stopped my being with my friends who can still be free to go, although I
would do anything for my two children to help them go through a decent life. I am
constantly living in fear of becoming pregnant again so soon (I am a prisoner). This
seems to be an accurate account of motherhood in this time period and shows the
great need for birth control which Sanger responded to with her continuous work. By
creating the ability to control the number of children a woman had, Sanger enabled
families to escape the financial and health troubles that often
Heaven And Hell In Macbeth Essay
According to dictionary.com, hell is defined as the place or state of punishment of
the wicked after death; the abode of evil and condemned spirits. And Heaven is
defined as the place or state of existence of the blessed after the mortal life. In the
tragic play, Macbeth by William Shakespeare the comparison between heavenand hell
is truly emphasized. William Shakespeare depicts a character, Macbeth with honor
and loyalty that turns evil because of his ambitions and interpretations of the witches
prophecies. Macbeth s first dark act, the killing of Duncan leads him to continue
having drastic approaches in accomplishing his goals. As the tragedy develops,
Macbeth s moral decline is heightened through the comparison of heaven and hell.

marriage, she had three children, Candace, Mellissa, and Phineas. Once she got
divorced, she remarried to Lawrence Fletcher, who was the father of Ferb. The
reason we never see Mellissa with her family, is that Linda and her first husband
have worked out and agreement to allow Mellissa to visit with her father during
the summer. But if this is true, how come Mellissa s last name is Chase, and not
Flynn? I think she goes by Chase, because she doesn t want to be immediately
associated with Phineas and Ferb. We ve already seen throughout the Phineas and
Ferb series that Phineas and Ferb are known all throughout town as the coolest kids
ever. I think Melissa uses her former last name as a way to not be immediately
associated as just Phineas and Ferb s older sister.
Argument 2: Why would there be any reason to assume that the two are sisters?
Well, if you look at their pictures, you ll see what I mean.

First of all, they have a very similar red shade of hair. While this doesn t seem to be
very compelling evidence, have you ever noticed that both Phineas and his mom are

Pressure On Homework Essay
I think that parents put a lot of pressure on homework, but then if they need
something done. They want us to drop what we are doing and do it. My mom does
this a lot. She will want us to work on our homework, but then she will want us to
do the dishes or sweep the floor. If don t do it the way they want it done, we get
yelled at. We don t even win. It starts to get stressful after a while. They always
think that even though we seem to not be doing our homework. They can just put
other tasks on top of our homework. I know I ve went to my room multiple times to
just cried, because it is so stressful or I will go for a walk to clear my mind. This
much stress is not good because it leads to other health problems like depression.
Sometimes I blow up on my parents. It s not good to do but it lets me tellmy parents
how I feel about the subject. It s not easy yelling at my parents but if that s the only
way they are going to listen to me, I have to do something about it. It s not easy to
get along with the people at my house all the time but I either try to or I go off to
somewhere there is nobody. Some ways I think this could be resolved is that no
matter what it seems like, check if we are done with our homework before telling us
to do something around the house. I know for a fact that my familyyells a lot. If we
just talk about it, then there wouldn t be yelling fights. Sometimes yelling might
seem to fix it, but it really doesn t. It actually just makes it worst then it was
Cold War Proxy War Essay
Due to how many countries in Africa were used in Cold War proxy wars, an
important question is, Which of the superpowers had a larger influence on Africa?
And while the U.S.A. certainly did have significant sway in Asia, mainly Korea and
Vietnam, and in the Middle East in Afghanistan, relatively, not much was spent, both
financially and in a militaristic sense, in Africa. Similarly, the U.S.S.R. was also
spending the majority of their resources in Europeand Asia.
However, when examining where Cuba stood in Africa s proxy wars, one can see
that a large majority of communist and socialist factions in Africa were given aid by
Cuba. Therefore, was Cuba the most influential power in Africa during the Cold War?

MPLA troops became operatives and guerillas in Namibia, aiding in the eventual
separation of Namibia from South African control.
Additionally, in the Congo, Cuba gave support to anti capitalist and colonialist
factions in the four years Congo Civil War or Congo Crisis. During the period, Che
Guevara travelled to the Congo as a military advisor, and trained Congolese guerillas
to fight against the ruling forces of Joseph Mobutu.
Smaller expeditions were sent out by Cuba. In Ethiopia, Cuba followed the Soviet
Union and other communist powers in support of the Derg government in the
Ogaden War between Somalia and Ethiopia. One thousand five hundred Cuban
troops were deployed to Israel in the Yom Kippur War in support of Arab forces.
Importantly, much of the support Cuba sent to Africa during the Cold War was
humanitarian aid. Engineers were sent to build hospitals and schools, where Cuban
teachers and doctors were sent. Roughly thirty thousand African students travelled to
Cuba to study at Cuban universities. Therefore, Cuba became seen not only as a
military benefactor in Africa, but also an altruistic supporter of African
Adultery In The Scarlet Letter
1.
Because Hester had committed adultery, she had to carry the letter A on her chest
for the rest of her life. The letter A stands for Adultery. This letter has signed her for
the rest of her life. Hester s life will be completely different, because adultery is an
absolutely no go in the Puritan community.
But the point which drew alle eyes, and, as it were, transfigured the weather, so that
both men and women, who had been familiarly acquainted with Hester Prynne, weren
ow impressed as if they beheld her for the first time, was that SCARLET LETTER,
so fantastically embroidered and illuminated upon her bosom. It had the effect of a
spell, taking her out of the ordinary relations with humanity, and inclosing here in a
sphere by herself.
But Hester Prynne, with a mind of native courage and activity, and for so long a
period not merely estranged, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In reality, Chillingworth was a cold and evil man who was spending the remainder of
his life enacting revenge. The town thought of him as good hearted and kind, he had

He was lodged in the prsion, not as suspected of any offence, but as the most
convenient and suitable mode of disposing of him, until the magistrates should have

2. The title of the book is The Scarlet Letter . The Scarlet letter refers to the letter,
that the main character Hester Prynne, has to bear on her chest for the rest of her

Contemporary Business Leaders
I identify Richard Branson as one of the most distinct and famous leaders among the
contemporary business leaders for this paper. There may be more famous, wealthy,
and renown business leaders around or may be leading with many different leadership
styles of those who are CEO s and founders, but I chose Richard Branson and I would
like to analyze and evaluate his unique leadership approach and his natural gifted
/talents of leading people to grow and become successful.
Born July 18, 1950 in England, Richard Branson, the son of Barrister Edward
James Branson and Eve Branson was educated at Scaitcliffe School; he suffered
Dyslexia and had poor academic performance as a student at a young age. He
married twice. Kristen Tomassi his first wife and his second wife Joan Templeman

DEFINITION OF TERMS:
Agrarian reform is defined to mean the redistribution of lands, regardless of crops
or fruits produced, to farmers and regular farm workers who are landless,
irrespective of tenurial arrangement, to include the totally of factors and support
services designed to lift the economic status of the beneficiaries and all other
arrangements alternative to the physical redistribution of lands, such as production or
profit sharing, labor administration, and the distribution of shares of stocks, which
will allow beneficiaries to receive a just share of the fruits of the lands they work.
ARC Connectivity is a new strategy wherein development in the ARCs will radiate to

Introducing Object Oriented Programming to Engineering Technology students with
an App Development Tool Abstract: Object oriented programming concepts are
frequently a difficult topic for Engineering Technology educators to teach to students
that have no previous object oriented programming experience. With the recent rise of
mobile computing, a powerful and robust tool is now available to easily develop
software for the Android mobile device operating system. Through App development
with a highly interactive interface and real time device feedback, difficult
programming concepts are conveyed in a highly visual and tactile learning
environment. Introduction The need for OOP and a better way to teach it.
Introducing object oriented computer programming (OOP) to Engineering
Technology students who have never programmed is often difficult. Even those
students who have programmed before in other non object based languages are often
apprehensive or completely lost when introduced to Java and related OOP languages.
This apprehension inhibits the learning process and has shown a need for a more
inviting development environment aside from the blank text document with which
the student is presented. A modern mobile platform application (app) development
tool offers an innovative and exciting approach to the introduction of many basic
programming skills. This free software development tool called MIT App Inventor

Mogen Company Financial Analysis
MoGen On January 10, 2006 the managing director of Merrill Lynch s Equity
Linked Capital markets Group, Dar Maanavi, was reviewing the final drafts of a
proposal for a convertible debt offering by MoGen, Inc. As a leading biotechnology
company in the United States, MoGen had become an important client for Merrill

$5billion, it would represent Merrill Lynch s third financing for MoGen in four
years with proceeds raised totaling $10 billion. Moreover, this convert would be the
largest such single offering in history. The proceeds were earmarked to fund a

Over the years, the industry had made progress in shortening the approval time and
improving the predictability of the approval process. At the same time, industry R
D expenditures had increased 12.6% over 2003 in the continuing race to find the
next big breakthrough product. Like all biotech companies, MoGen faced
uncertainty regarding new product creating as well as challenges involved with
sustaining a pipeline of future products. Now a competitive threat of follow on
biologics or biosimilars began emerging. As drugs neared the end of their patent
protection, competitors would produce similar drugs as substitutes. Competitors
could not produce the drug exactly, because they did not have access to the original
manufacturer s molecular clone or purification process. Thus, biosimilars required
their own approval to ensure they performed as safely as the original drugs. For
MoGen, this threat was particularly significant in Europe, where several patents were
approaching expiration. Funding Needs MoGen needed to ensure a consistent supply
of cash to fund R D and to maintain financial flexibility in the face of uncertain
challenges an opportunities. MoGen had cited several key areas that would require
approximately $10 billion in funding for 2006: 1. Expanding manufacturing and
information, and fill and finish capacity: Recently, the company had not been able to

The public probably has a better understanding of how contracts work, as the
concept is the same whether it s be tween private private partnerships, or private

in the contract must still be clearly defined and is not easy to change once it s been
created. Universities indirect effect on markets makes them more difficult to

and the budget does not have any re quirements on it. However, as previously

markets should behave and who should have influence. Most people are familiar
with antitrust laws but not specifically how they work. They are not easily
monitored but can carry sig nificant weight in getting corporations to agree to correct
behavior that is deemed to be in violation. The three monitoring agencies have
different responsibilities, but the goal of each is the same, to limit the effect of
deficits on the economy (market) to the extent possible. Each report to different
levels of government, but are aware of the responsibilities of the others. They may
not work in conjunction with each other well, which can create gridlock in Congress,
limiting funds available for critical programs. Most people are familiar with the

History Of Gum Disease
Gum disease is an infection of the tissues that surround and support the teeth. It starts
with inflammation of gums (gingivitis) which when left untreated may proceed to
cause bone loss (periodontitis). As the support of the tooth is lost, gum diseases lead
to lose teeth.
Cause: The primary cause of gum diseases is plaque, the sticky bio film of bacteria
that is constantly forming on our teeth. But there are following factors which increase
the risk of developing it:
Poor oral hygiene
Smoking or chewing tobacco
Genetics and family history of gum diseases
Crooked teeth that are hard to keep clean
Pregnancy, hormonal changes
Other diseases like diabetes, cancer, HIV
Medications like steroids, anti epilepsy drugs, cancer therapy drugs, some ... Show

Other studies showed that women with gum disease were more likely to deliver
preterm, low birth weight babies.
Treatment options: The goal of treatment is to reduce swelling, the depth of pockets
and stop disease progression. Treatment options depend on the stage of disease, past
history of gum disease, response to earlier treatment and overall health.
Gingivitis, an early stage of the gum disease is still reversible as the disease is still
only isolated to gums and hasn t yet spread to the bone. It can be easily treated with
simple non invasive professional cleaning by the dentist, followed by daily brushing,
flossing and mouthwash rinses. Periodontitis, an advanced gum disease has spread to
the bone and requires surgical treatment.
Scaling of teeth The first and foremost treatment is cleaning of the teeth by a dentist
to remove the plaque and tartar/calculus (hardened bacterial film). This removes the
bacteria and thus controls
Cleveland Browns Case Study
The Cleveland Browns preseason has come to a conclusion so here s a look back
on what happened. Despite losing three of four contests, the Browns played well.
The quarterback play was respectable and offered some pleasant surprises. Josh
McCown supplied Clevelanders with some of these moments. The veteran appeared
more mobile than previously anticipated. His most memorable highlight came
against the Washington Redskins. As the pocket collapsed, McCown escaped
pressure and found an open receiver in the end zone. He started three games and
finished the preseason completing over 76% of his passes for 207 yards and
accounting for three touchdowns. Johnny Manziel appeared in two games, looking
far more comfortable than expected. He stayed within... Show more content on

As for the running back position, Isaiah Crowell seems to have a grip on the
starting job. He saw limited reps throughout preseason and even sat out of the final
exhibition. Last year, Crowell appeared more explosive and productive (eight
touchdowns) than Terrence West, who saw more reps in the backfield. This
offseason West received majority of the touches and led the Browns in rushing.
There were numerous questions about the second year back, but now it s no
longer Cleveland s concern. Rumors placed the Towson product on the trading
block and a suitor was found. The Browns will receive a conditional 2016 draft
pick from the Tennessee Titans. This opens the door for rookie Duke Johnson,
who missed an excess of time due to injuries. When he did return to the field, it
wasn t for long as he suffered a concussion. Unfortunately with limited data fans
don t know what to expect out of him, but his potential can t be ignored. Speaking
of potential, that s what I see in the group of receivers the Browns obtained.
Currently, there are seven wide outs on the 53 man roster and any Clevelander
knows what Andrew Hawkins, Taylor Gabriel, and Marlon Moore will bring to the
table. Additionally, we re aware of Travis Benjamin s abilities, but after three years
in the league, he is looking like a decent pass
Was Otto Von Bismarck A Planner Analysis

Otto Von Bismarck was a Planner
During the 19th century, Nationalism was a big player when it came to unity in
Europe. The man who played the main role in unification in Germany was Otto von
Bismarck. He made progression through three wars. The question people still ask
today is, did Otto von Bismarck plan to unify Germany, or did he just take
advantage of the opportunities that fell into his lap. Otto Von Bismarck was most
definitely a planner as shown through countless actions and statements shown threw
his time of power during the three wars. The first war was the Danish war were
Germany with the help of Austria took control of the provinces of Schleswig and
Holstein. The second war was the Austrian Prussian war, where there was a
disagreement over administrations of Schleswig. The third and final war was the
Franco Prussian war, were France was determined to prevent German Unification.
The first war lead by Otto von Bismarck was the Danish Prussian war in 1864. It
started with Denmark wanting to invade North German States, Schleswig and
Holstein. Prussian power wasn t going to let this happen because they wanted control
of those North German States. They Proceeded to have a war with Denmark over
these states and Prussia had the help of Austria. In the end, Prussia and Austria did
end up winning the war and they gained control of the German States, Schleswig and
Holstein. With The Treaty of Gastein , Austria got
Essay on Thomas Malthus Section Summary
Thomas Malthus Section Summary Malthus work, Essay on the Principle of
Population, is often cited, first by Darwin himself, to have influenced Darwin s
conception of the theory of natural selection. His work, though unpopular, and often
proven to be off the mark, did in fact bring to the forefront many socio economic
issues that are still being debated today: populationcontrol, foodproduction and
concerns over uncontrollable diseases arising from the effects of over population. In
this passage it is stated that Malthus was proven wrong: ...Malthus dire predictions

In this sense, Malthus did not correctly identify the growth in family size as a
reflexive response to economic necessity.
Question Two The argument that Malthus set growth rates of food in relation to
population ignored the role of food prices is accurate. In fact, by using set rates only
in relation to each other, he ignored much more than food prices. In an artificial
economy established in an economic lab such set ratios can be accurately predictive.
However, in the natural environment, there are many external factors that would
affect change on his model, and did affect change. Prices are a key oversight in his
theory. While the basic premise that population growthmay outstrip the growth in
food productivity was true based on the circumstances within which he operated, he
didn t account for the economics of food productivity to drive an increase in
production worldwide that offset any local market conditions and shortages in
supply. In yet another respect, the role of food prices may depress population growth
in that if food
Essay about Emory Healthcare s New System to Reduce
Errors
During the 1980 s and 90 s there were many studies done that showed that medical
errors were occurring in inpatient and outpatient settings at a very high rate.
Computer Provider Order Entry (CPOE) systems were designed to reduce or
eliminate mistakes made by using hand written orders. The CPOE system allows
users to directly enter their orders into the system on computers which are then sent
directly to the healthcare providers that will be implementing the orders. Previously
orders were placed by writing on order sheets on patient charts. This was sometimes
done by the doctoror by a nurse acting on behalf of the doctor. Order sheets were then
signed by the doctor and then the information was input into the patient s record. This

Some doctors believed that the CPOE system did not improve the quality of care as
you needed to be computer literate in order to use it.
The change from the manual system to the CPOE system was met with mixed
reactions.
Classes were held to train employees with the system and Emory used Application
Content Experts, healthcare workers that had received special training in the CPOE
system, as assistants to those needing help, and a special hotline was set up to help
with any questions.
In my opinion it was a good decision for Emory to implement the CPOE system as
it will limit the number of errors occurring and in the end save costs and lives. It
was also a good decision to roll out system out in one of their smaller units as an
initial trial run. They were able to work out some of the bugs in the system by doing
so. They also did a good job with their training and the ACE assistants and
implementing the hot line.
Although all of those steps were positive, they should have offered additional
training and they should make extra training available for those that request it. In
order for Emory to have a smooth roll out when they introduce the CPOE system at
EUHM they will need to more clearly define the roles of the users of the system in
order to reduce redundancies in the orders and clarifying the responsibilities of the
Globalization And Its Impact On Globalization
Since the term globalization became a prominent feature of global interactions during
the 1980s, different changes have taken place within the global political, economic,
and social spheres which has in turn resulted in a judiciously interdependent world
compared to previous eras (Christopherson, Garretsen, Martin, 2008). Globalizationis
mainly influenced by two overriding factors liberation of global markets/economies
coupled with the increasing development of new technologies. The latter
nonetheless (technology) plays the function of a principle driving dynamism as
well as an enabler of the process particularly in regards to global interconnectedness.
Towards this end, Technology allowed globalization to produce fresh opportunities
frontiers relating to diverse nations as well as organizations on one side while
portending different challenges presented by entry barriers as noted by Bauernfeind,
(20). Towards this end, technological advancement is universally advanced as the
primary driver of globalization. While technology is indeed a critical aspect
contributing to globalization as crucial determinant of global interactions, it is
obviously not the only one but its role is most critical. This essay will therefore
critically examine the role of technology in driving globalization with a view to
understanding the present conceptualization as well as application of the
phenomenon in global affairs.

The History and Importance of Cotton
As early as the 1700s, cotton began to make its mark. The United States, in the
1800s, adopted cotton as its leading export and it was one of the world s largest
suppliers of the plant. Cotton allowed for the United States economy to drastically
boom, for most of the world s supply of cotton came from the American Southern
soil. The cotton industry, powered by the extensive and tedious labor of the African
American slaves, generated enormous sums of money for the United States. In many
respects, cotton s financial and political influence in the 19th century can be
compared to that of the oil industry in the early 21st century (Dattel, Web). Although
it was considered a cash crop, cotton was also a nebulous form on destruction that
unknowingly influenced the country to turn to Civil War. It influenced the country in
three major ways: the South to rely on cotton plantations for its profits, to stand by
slavery and its benefits, and to secede from the Union.
Cotton became King in the South in the 18th century. Being the largest exporter of
this benevolent cash crop, it truly ameliorated the country s economy and financial
status. Cotton was indeed the South s economic backbone (Dattel, Web). It supplied
over 75% of the world s cotton need and gave the country about $200 million a year
in profit. Later on, the southern states who decided to secede from the Union to form
the Confederate States of America in 1861, used cotton to provide revenue for its

Nuclear Power Plants In The United States
Nuclear power plants or renewable energy power plants? Dirty plants or clean power
plants ? Harmful power plants or secure power plants? All these things should come
to Americans minds when they are trying to decide on what path they should go on to
get there energy from. Although Americans could choose nuclear powerplants, I
believe they shouldn t because they are expensive and not time efficient, harmful to
people and the environment, and they re susceptible to accidents.
As a matter of fact, there is lot s of chemistry behind the use of nuclear plants. In the
United States there are two types of reactor nuclear power plants, boiling water

According to the article At U.S. Nuclear Sites, Preparing for the Unlikely they say
The fact that the odds of a nuclear accident are unknowable and the risks hard to
measure make it in some ways more frightening than the known and greater risks
of driving without a seat belt or breathing the fumes from a coal burning power
plant. (11) This emphasizes the fact that when using nuclear power you will never
be aware of when an accident or explosion can happen. For example, in the article
Nuclear Power Safety Concerns they mention the explosion at Chernobyl in
northern Ukraine. The Chernobyl accident in 1986 was the result of a flawed
reactor design that was operated with inadequately trained personnel. Furthermore,
the resulting steam explosion and fires released at least 5% of the radioactive
reactor core into the atmosphere and downwind and two Chernobyl plant workers
died on the night of the accident, and a further 28 people died within a few weeks
as a result of acute radiation poisoning. This exemplifies how an accidental
explosion of a nuclear power plant was unplanned, killed people, and left over
radiation on to the site till this day which people had died
Essay On Simone De Beauvoir
Simone De Beauvoir was known not only as a great philosopher, but an activist,
novelist, and intellectual. Although she was all these things she would rather be
remembered as a writer, as she felt this would bring her closer to eternity. She
would grow up through most of her childhood happy and God fearing, but would
later lose her faith and begin a new path. This path would take her to meet her lover
Jean Paul Sartre, and he would go on to influence her greatest written works.
Simone De Beauvoir was born January 9, 1908 in Paris, France to her loving farther
Georges Bertrand de Beauvoir and mother Françoise de Beauvoir. Simone s
mother, a Catholic, righteous, and morally rigid woman was quite the contrast to
her father s individualism and pagan ethical standards (Cottrell 5). Even with two
very different parenting styles a young De Beauvoir flourished in all that she did
as a child. At the age of two De Beauvoir became a big sister a new role that she
was obliged to take on (Ascher 13). As she progressed in life De Beauvoir was the
most content with life as she would ever be. She was blessed to have the people
she loved most by her. At this moment, she understood what love was, as she felt
how it was to be touched by an outside phenomenon (Ascher 13). At this stage in her
life De Beauvoir could not imagine life without her baby sister, mother and farther by
her side. When she reached the age to which she could receive schooling De Beauvoir
attended the Desir Institute

Hitler planned to invade Europe to create his perfect society of blonde haired, blue eyed Aryans. As Germany was invading France in 1940, the lives of the French would change in every aspect of their lives. In Marcel Carne s Les Enfants du Paradis, one can see that it fits into other movies that were made during the German invasion of France. It follows the restrictions that were put on by Nazi Party but also broke some rules to keep their artistic integrity and used it as a means of escapism for the people of France. Les Enfants du Paradis tells the story in a poetic realist way that was a very popular movie in 1945. Poetic realism centers around working class characters and the theme of doomed love, the blending of comedy and tragedy, the use of long shots and long takes, and narratives that function as critiques of society (Glover). She would always talk about how much she missed the time spent at the hospital. Every day, she would work for more than twelve hours, but all her tiredness would be forgotten once she heard the first cry of a baby. It was as if being the doctormade all the stress disappear into her eyes, and all the happiness would wash over her face. My grandma did not receive any college education due to the culture revolution of China at that time. However, she was hard working, and she was self taught to become an expert in alternative medicine. During her first trip to the US, she instantly became popular in our local Senior Center. Seeing myself and all of the other patients suffering in the waiting queue, I asked myself, why could not I become a doctor and help myself and all those in need? Since then, becoming a doctor is part of my dream. Around the age of ten, I discovered the Bergen County Academies through many references

Introducing Object Oriented Programming to Engineering Technology students with an App Development Tool Abstract: Object oriented programming concepts are frequently a difficult topic for Engineering Technology educators to teach to students that have no previous object oriented programming experience. With the recent rise of mobile computing, a powerful and robust tool is now available to easily develop software for the Android mobile device operating system. Through App development with a highly interactive interface and real time device feedback, difficult programming concepts are conveyed in a highly visual and tactile learning environment. Introduction The need for OOP and a better way to teach it. Introducing object oriented computer programming (OOP) to Engineering Technology students who have never programmed is often difficult. Even those students who have programmed before in other non object based languages are often apprehensive or completely lost when introduced to Java and related OOP languages. This apprehension inhibits the learning process and has shown a need for a more inviting development environment aside from the blank text document with which the student is presented. A modern mobile platform application (app) development tool offers an innovative and exciting approach to the introduction of many basic programming skills. This free software development tool called MIT App Inventor (Abelson, 2011) or simply AppInventor provides an inviting

Thus, biosimilars required their own approval to ensure they performed as safely as the original drugs. For MoGen, this threat was particularly significant in Europe, where several patents were approaching expiration. This offseason West received majority of the touches and led the Browns in rushing. There were numerous questions about the second year back, but now it s no longer Cleveland s concern. In this sense, Malthus did not correctly identify the growth in family size as a reflexive response to economic necessity. Question Two The argument that Malthus set growth rates of food in relation to population ignored the role of food prices is accurate. In fact, by using set rates only in relation to each other, he ignored much more than food prices. In an artificial economy established in an economic lab such set ratios can be accurately predictive. However, in the natural environment, there are many external factors that would affect change on his model, and did affect change. Prices are a key oversight in his theory. While the basic premise that population growthmay outstrip the growth in food productivity was true based on the circumstances within which he operated, he didn t account for the economics of food productivity to drive an increase in production worldwide that offset any local market conditions and shortages in supply. In yet another respect, the role of food prices may depress population growth in that if food

The CPOE system allows users to directly enter their orders into the system on computers which are then sent directly to the healthcare providers that will be implementing the orders. In my opinion it was a good decision for Emory to implement the CPOE system as it will limit the number of errors occurring and in the end save costs and lives. It was also a good decision to roll out system out in one of their smaller units as an initial trial run. They were able to work out some of the bugs in the system by doing so. Globalizationis mainly influenced by two overriding factors liberation of global markets/economies coupled with the increasing development of new technologies. The latter nonetheless (technology) plays the function of a principle driving dynamism as well as an enabler of the process particularly in regards to global interconnectedness. Towards this end, Technology allowed globalization to produce fresh opportunities frontiers relating to diverse nations as well as organizations on one side while portending different challenges presented by entry barriers as noted by Bauernfeind, (20). Towards this end, technological advancement is universally advanced as the primary driver of globalization. While technology is indeed a critical aspect contributing to globalization as crucial determinant of global interactions, it is obviously not the only one but its role is most critical. This essay will therefore critically examine the role of technology in driving globalization with a view to understanding the present conceptualization as well as application of the phenomenon in global affairs. Cotton allowed for the United States economy to drastically boom, for most of the world s supply of cotton came from the American Southern soil. The cotton industry, powered by the extensive and tedious labor of the African American slaves, generated enormous sums of money for the United States. In many respects, cotton s financial and political influence in the 19th century can be compared to that of the oil industry in the early 21st century (Dattel, Web). Although it was considered a cash crop, cotton was also a nebulous form on destruction that unknowingly influenced the country to turn to Civil War. It influenced the country in three major ways: the South to rely on cotton plantations for its profits, to stand by slavery and its benefits, and to secede from the Union. Cotton became King in the South in the 18th century. Being the largest exporter of this benevolent cash crop, it truly ameliorated the country s economy and financial status. Cotton was indeed the South s economic backbone (Dattel, Web). It supplied over 75% of the world s cotton need and gave the country about $200 million a year in profit. Later on, the southern states who decided to secede from the Union to form the Confederate States of America in 1861, used cotton to provide revenue for its government, arms and
