The Capital Structure Decision Of Firms With Powerful Ceos
Methodology This study looks for evidence that the capital structure decision of firms with powerful
CEOs has a negative effect of corporate performance. Ho: CEO power and Leverage have no effect on
performance. Ha: CEO power and Leverage have an effect on performance. In order to test this
hypothesis, an OLS regression model is used, where the dependent variable is performance and the
independent variables include: (1) the existence of powerful CEOs, (2) leverage, (3) the relationship
between these two and (4) some control variables. Table 1 summarises all variables included in the
regression function and the rationale behind the selection of each one of them. Dependent Variables
Empirical researchers use a variety of performance measurements among which stands out the
accounting ratio of ROA. Additionally, as the firms objective is increasing value in benefit of its
owners, the Tobin s Q ratio is also used as a measure of market value of the firm, following the
approach of Morck, Shleifer and Vishny (1988) and Gompers, Ishii and Metrick (2003). Independent
Variables Leverage is measured by the ratio of total debt to total asset, and the CEO dominance is
accounted by a proxy which is a binary variable that takes the value of 1 when the CEO was also the
chairman of the board in of the 7 years from 2008 and 2014 and 0 otherwise. Power under this settings
comes from the fact that there would be little to no oversight of the CEO s management, hence,

Analysis Of Charles Dickens s Dickens
Does One s Environment Have the Ability to Blacken the Soul?
With difficulty, on her knees, drew from her bosom a white handkerchief Rose May lie s own and
holding it up, in her folded hands, as high towards Heaven as her feeble strength would allow,
breathed one [last] prayer for mercy towards her Maker (Oliver Twist, Dickens 302 revised).
Throughout Oliver Twist, Charles Dickens uses his characters and props to symbolize purity, even
though the environment would seem to denote everything and everyone. Incontro vertibly, some
certainly conform to their environment; for example, as part of the lower class, Fagin and Sikes turn to
thieving, lying, and even murder, instead of earning an honest living. Throughout the first half of the
book, Dickens leads one to believe Nancy follows the same pat tern. However, as the plot develops,
the reader s theories and opinions transform. Continuing on, the reader will find the answer to the
dispute Dickens constantly toys with; does one s environ ment have the ability to blacken the soul and
affect one s choices?
Charles Dickens was born in Portsmouth, on the Southern coast of England. He was brought up in a
poor household so indebted that his father, John Dickens, was sent to jail. In 1827, at the age of 15,
Dickens was working, attending the theater, and taking acting lessons. In 1836 (age 24), Dickens
published his very first book entitled Sketches by Boz. This was the be ginning. Dickens flourished in
his new writing career

To Read or Not To Read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a novel published by Samuel
Langhorne Clemens, better known by his pen name as Mark Twain, in 1884. The story is more than
just a story however as many adults, parents, and educators believe that this book is unfit for a
classroom setting. What they are unable or (unwilling) to see are the benefits of reading and analyzing
this story. It allows students to understand history in context as well as understanding the vernacular of
the time, it also allows opportunities for discussing conflicting views and controversial issues in a safe
and controlled environment. History can be a vague concept to study and understand. ... Show more

(Leigh, Punchnels) While that is alright for a school to do that, and they have every right to do so, kids
will come into contact with words like that again and they cannot be protected forever. For example,
Huckleberry Finn has been banned in schools nationwide for using the word nigger two hundred and
nineteen times over the course of the novel. (News, CBS) Many people have backed up and valid
arguments for banning the book and they are entitled to their opinions. Some parents do not wish for
their children to be exposed to the content in the story at the age of the child when the book is
introduced. Violence and sexual themes in all forms of media have found their ways to today s youth.
In just the 32 years Banned Books week has been acknowledged, over 11,000 books have been
challenged. (Leigh, Punchnels) The presence of witchcraft, encouragement of damaging lifestyles,
violence, and negativity are all reasons that books have been challenged in the United States. All
schools and educational institutions of any sort have a policy regarding the selection of instructional
materials. The Denali Borough School District in Alaska is a school system that opened up to talk
about their policy. Alaska is one of the few states in the United States that allows schools to more or
less govern themselves, giving them soft standards

Gangsta s Paradise Gcse Analysis
The song itself is accessible in terms of the sound it is definitely not tough and dirty rap for only Hip
Hop biggest and the most dedicated fans but pop music enthusiasts would also like the track. The
melody is very catchy and easy to remember. However, the situation is absolutely different in terms of
lyrics. Gangsta s Paradise is the example of dark rap about the unreal lifestyle of the young criminals
from poor districts of the United States1. The video starts with the picture of school corridor but this
one is extremely unfriendly. There are few pupils who are definitely not looking like teenagers; person

who is the lead voice in the chorus. Coolio has black dreadlocks, black big jacket and black glasses
with which he is playing around when he is rapping. The atmosphere is very serious and stuffy.
Coolio, while explaining the helpless situation of those young people, is walking around with the one
single candle. Symbol of hope? Does not seem so because in the video only the very last scene
presents one fragment from the movie which is optimistic: Michelle Pfeiffer and her students
laughing, dancing clearly to Hip Hop, having fun. The rest of the video is very dark. Scenes selected
from the movie are focused on the aggressive behavior of school kids and vulnerable teachers who
gave up on them. Abandoned buildings with graffiti on the walls, very simple classrooms, fights and
the police who is not asking questions this is the world of black young people3. Gangsta s Paradise is
the song with the very important social message telling about problems which young people from the
poorest districts of the United States were facing every day. It is about being helpless and about
indifference from the white community and

Harry Potter Hero Essay
In the book and movie series Harry Potter, the famous boy wizard goes through his many years of
schooling at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, making new friends like his best friends,
Ron and Hermione, as well as creating enemies like Draco Malfoy. Along with his friends Ron and
Hermione, Harry continuously puts an end to the many different forms of the evil Lord Voldemort that
tries to attack Harry each year. It is later on in the series when the interactions with Lord Voldemort
become more frequent and more deadly. This is when Albus Dumbledore, the famous Headmaster of
Hogwarts, teaches, instructs, and guides Harry to his ultimate goal of defeating Lord Voldemort,
finally bringing peace to their world once again. In relation to the Jungian Literary Archetypes, Harry
Potter represents the Hero, Albus Dumbledore represents the Wise Old Man, and Lord Voldemort
represents the Witch or Sorceress.
Harry Potter is the main character of all seven stories in the series, he represents a hero in many
different ways. When he was born, Lord Voldemort went to his home and tried to murder him. Harry s
parents defended against Voldemort, but they didn t stand a chance. It was because of Harry s mother s
love that saved his life when she cast herself in between Voldemort and Harry. This unusual ... Show

10 Days That Changed America
10 Days That Unexpectedly Changed America (book) Throughout the narration of America, they have
been numerous factors that shaped the history of the country. Although, the history of America lies
well beyond 10 important days or events, historians worldwide unanimously came to the final
conclusion that these 10 days/events changed America: the massacre at Mystic on May 26, 1637,
Daniel Shays rebellion on January 25, 1787, the start of the Gold Rush on January 24,1848, the Battle
of Antietam on September 17, 1862, the Homestead Strike on July 6, 1892, the assassination of
President McKinley on September 6, 1901, the Scopes Trial on July 21, 1925, Einstein s Letter on July
16, 1939, Elvis Presley s appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show on September 9, 1956, and Freedom
Summer Tragedy on July 21, 1964. The Mystic Massacre, May 26, 1637, started the first of the days.

The Left And The Right Wing
The left and the right wing are always being compared to each other. It s always been the battle
between the opinions and the views of the far right and the far left. Even to this day, they are separated
and always put in situations where they bounce ideas back and forth. Now, what this essay will focus
on is not the differences between both sides but the differences and similarities within the far right, as
well as the far left. We will not be comparing the right and the left, but rather the right to the right.
Reactionaries and traditional conservatives, they are both in the far right but they are from different
era s. Would they still have the same point of views or are they slightly different? How exaggerated
will their ideas be considering that both ideologies were influenced by the same principles. Would
they have the same methods and goals? Are they all the same, that there s no point in finding the
differences between a traditional conservatives and a reactionary? Or are they simply contradicting
themselves?
Looking at the radical side of the political spectrum we are faced with the theories of Karl Marx, who
rejected the idea of a capitalist form of government due to the inequalities that it comes with. He
believed in scientific socialism, and published the Communist Manifesto in 1848. Which lays out his
theories of social and economic principles, along with how to approach the conflict between class
struggle. He believed that workers, especially those who work

Mixture Of Unidentified Organic Compounds Lab Report
A couple of mixtures of unidentified organic compounds (a mixture of two liquids and another
mixture of two solid compounds) were obtained, and the compounds of each mixture were then
separated, isolated, and purified. The compounds of the liquid liquid mixture were isolated by simple
distillation, and the compounds in the mixture of solids were extracted by liquid liquid extraction, and
later purified through recrystallization. Physical properties such as boiling points, melting points, and
densities were used to identify each isolated compound. After analysis, the first liquid was identified
by a boiling range of 81.0°C 81.3°C and a density of 0.7882g/mL, and the second liquid was
identified by a boiling range of 91.7°C 91.9°C and a density of 0.8578 g/mL. The crude solid products
were purified and recrystallized, providing a white crystalline solid (MP = 35.2 37.8 °C) in 46.9%
yield, and a white powdery solid (MP = 121.9 122.1 °C) in 2.40% yield.

Women During The Greek Period
Women during The Greek Period and Now Art and sculptures have been created since the beginning
of mankind in order to express themselves and demonstrate human potential. From simple carvings on
a rock walls to magnificent works of art, such as the sixteenth chapel, art has continued to progress
throughout time and it continues to progresses even further. There are many different types of art to
depict different things the artist wants to transfer to his viewers if not created for himself. Since works
of art are made to express aspects within life, it creates symbolics meanings the vary on the message
the artist wants to give out. Besides symbolic meanings, a work of art can notify the viewer of the
history during the time period it was created, roles within society, the way people lived during the time
it was made, how society functioned, what they believed in, and many more things about life that are
uncountable. Women were among one of the things artist painted and sculpted about. They did this
and continue to do this in order to show what women meant to people during that time. Comparing an
old painting with a contemporary painting we can see how some aspects, techniques, and styles within
the art have changed and how women s roles have become different in society over the course of time.
We can also see what artistic aspects, techniques, and style have remained the same, and what we can
see what has remained the same about women today. We can view this when we

Analysis Of Do The Right Thing
There are many films in this world that tackle the topic of race. It is an unfortunate truth that leads to
many options when choosing a film to show to the students of Coe College. With a large majority of
the students at Coe being white, choosing a film that addresses the themes of racism in the 20th
century is something that can be a sensitive subject. It is the reason that a film that addresses tension
among different race on a block in Bed Sty is the most appropriate for the audience at Coe College.
The film Do The Right Thing, directed by Spike Lee, challenges the characters in the film, along with
the audience viewing the film to form opinions on sensitive subjects and to do the right thing in a
difficult situation.Spike Lee uses the film, Do The Right Thing, to address racial tension in the 20th
century through his use of color, camera framing and narrative. One of the most striking scenes begins
in the first forty minutes of the film. The scene starts off with the music becoming slow and haunting,
a difference from the high beat music that was playing before, while a police car slowly drives down
the street in the neighborhood of mostly people of color. The camera then cuts to the three black men
who sit on the corner, Sweet Dick Willie, Coconut Sid, and ML. The camera pans across the three
faces, all showing critical glares at the police car. The policeman in the passenger seat is then shown,
displaying a similar glare to the black men. The tension can be felt in

Cause And Effect Of Bullying
The Effects of Bullying
Nerd, ugly, stupid, creep, loser: these are just a few of the hurtful words that school bullies and other
students direct towards their excluded, vulnerable peers in schools around the U.S. Bullying is a
familiar word often heard in schools, workplaces and now on the internet. It can occur in the form of
physical, mental or emotional abuse. In general, bullying has been perceived as aggressive behavior
that is intentional, harassment, and an imbalance of power with the result of inflicting pain or
discomfort on others ( Bullying ). Thousands of children in the United States are affected every day by
bullying. This kind of behavior is detrimental to all involved and should not be allowed in any school
system as it can quickly affect an individual beyond anyone s imagination. In some cases, bullying can
undermine the self esteem of the victims which can force them to take extreme measures dangerous to
them and others. The experience of school bullying can end up causing enduring damage to both
victims and bullies. The effects of school bullying include decreased academic achievement,
depression and anxiety and high risk of self destructive behaviors. According to a study done by Gary
Ladd, a psychology professor at Arizona State University, 24 percent of children in the study suffered
chronic bullying throughout their school years, which was related to lower academic performance and
less engagement in school. Decreased academic achievement is a

The Individual in Chains of Illusion”
Two distinct ways that identifies one s lifestyle is attributed to the concept of necrophilia and
biophilia. Necrophilia can be defined as the love of death and biophilia can be defined as the love of
life. Human character is dominated by both forces, but it is important to identify which of these forces
plays a dominant role. The dominant role dictates the relational life one has with the world. The class
of people one can associate with necrophiliacs are members of violent gangs. Members of violent
gangs thrive on the love of death, and this poses a great threat to a human society that strives to be
good. Gangs are built on the basis of loyalty. Membership in violent gang hinges on one commonality,
that is, lack of positive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fromm sees the perfect individual through his personal experiences. Fromm believed that the world
wars were manipulated by political leaders to rob individual of his ability to think for himself. (
Fromm, 329) The main problem with Fromm is that his emphasis to attain nature of conformity is
accomplished through physical acts. For example, Fromm shows this logic in his essay Individual in
the chains of illusion. In this essay, he iterates his problem with the United Nations and how this
organization leads him to think about the concept of one world. Fromm explains that he actually sees a
unified individual who transcends the limits of one s nation and treats every human beings as a
neighbor. Fromm sees non conformity in a person who accomplishes individuality through his
singularity in behavior and thought. However, the similarities outweigh the differences in both
ideologies. Fromm and Emerson both advocate that the individual is a conformist when one is
subsumed under a organization. They claim that the role of an non conformist is to clash with society
and their rules. Fromm and Emerson were fascinated by thinkers who freed themselves from
organized societies . The main problem with their philosophy is that if all of human race was non
conforming to society, the world would be destroyed. Laws were created to promote order and create a
balance for the non conformer. If there was no balance in the

How Phobias Affect People And How Can Overcome Their Phobia
Purpose: At the end of my speech, the audience will know how phobias affect people and how to
overcome their phobia.
I. Introduction
a. Imagine being so afraid of something that you try everything in your power to avoid it. For
example, someone who fears spiders is not going to walk that trail that leads into a wooded area and
you can almost guarantee that the person who isn t too fond of heights isn t going to walk across that
tall bridge. If you ask these people why they won t partake in these activates, they would probably
respond with I don t want to or I m afraid to . Sure most, if not all, of us are afraid of something. I m
not thrilled to be standing up in front of everyone giving a speech, but here I stand.
b. If your fear prevents you from doing certain activates, then it isn t just a fear, it is actually a phobia.
In 2013, Patterson wrote that, A phobia is described as a chronic and extreme fear of an object or
situation out of proportion to the danger actually presented by the feared thing. (p. 58).
c. I find this description to be most accurate because I, at one point in my life, had a phobia. The
phobia I had is called coasterphobia and if the name isn t a dead giveaway, it is the fear of
rollercoasters. At that time, you could have offered me five hundred dollars to get on a rollercoaster
and I would have turned it down without hesitation. It wasn t until about three years ago that I
overcame my phobia and now I absolutely love roller coasters.

The Pros And Cons Of Counterfeiting
If you have ever traveled to another country, you have probably seen vendors on the sidewalks or
streets, selling designer brand goods at a really cheap price. You may have even purchased something
from them. The fashion industry is a 1.2 trillion dollar global industry and employs 1.9 million people
in the United States alone (Maloney, 2015). There is one market that is proving to be detrimental to
this powerhouse industry. The black market of fashion, which produces counterfeit goods that are
being sold at a fraction of the price of the originals.
Whatever the reason a consumer has for purchasing a counterfeit product, that sale will still influence
the global economy. Counterfeiting leads to huge losses for not only the industry, but also a loss of tax
revenue for governments. It is estimated that counterfeiting consists of 5% to 7% of world trade and
produces profits of over 650 billion dollars annually ( Challenges of Selling , 2008). Not only does
counterfeiting steal profits from legitimate retailers, but it also causes loss of jobs, other, more violent
crimes, supports child labor, and puts consumers health at risk (Bell, 2016). Since most illegal
counterfeiting operations are run by organized crime rings, no taxes are paid, and the profits from
selling these goods are often used to support other crimes such as drug and human trafficking, money
laundering and even terrorism. Counterfeit sales in the United States have been directly related to the
killing

left at somebody s doorstep without a note. He later goes on to say how the human race was gifted our
sense of pattern recognition, passed down to us by our ancestors. This sense was essential to our
survival, as our ancestors used the stars that would tell them when seasons would be coming and when
they should set up camp or leave. They also noticed comets in the night sky and almost every ancient

Vinyl Deck Research Paper
Considering A New Vinyl Deck? You ll Love The Low Maintenance Required One of the main
benefits of choosing vinyl as the building material for your new deck is that it requires very little

to do to a vinyl deck is keep it clean. Here are a few things you need to know about caring for vinyl
decking. Keep The Deck Dry Rain should drain from your deck so it stays dry most of the time. Mold

If it doesn t accumulate a lot of dirt and debris, you may be able to go several months between
cleanings. Even if your deck doesn t look dirty, you should still wash it down occasionally to keep
organic matter and mold spores from attaching to the surface. If you use a power washer, wash one
board at a time following the length of the board rather than washing across the width. This keeps you
from forcing water between the boards. You can use a soapy solution made from dish soap or just
plain water if your deck isn t too dirty. If you use soap or a deck cleaning solution, wet the boards
first, and use the product early in the morning or late in the evening. If you apply cleansers during the
heat of the day, they may evaporate before they can be rinsed off, and then they ll leave a cloudy
residue behind. Look for stains as you wash, and if you find some, use a cleaner that s made for vinyl
decking to get rid of them. You can buy deck cleaner at a hardware store for this purpose. Plus, it s
always good to have the cleaner on hand so you can quickly clean up spills before they stain. Use a
nonabrasive stiff brush to help break up the stain if necessary. Use plenty of water to thoroughly rinse
off any cleaning products you use. Remove Snow And

The Cranberries Pros And Cons
The Cranberries The cranberries originally started out at The Cranberry Saw Us. Based out of
Limerick Ireland. After their original singer left the band put out an ad in 1990 for a female singer.
Dolores O Riordan responded and after coming up with a rough draft of the song Linger was hired

After this the band decided to shorten its name to The Cranberries. The band consisted of vocalist
Dolores O Riordan, Noel Hogan as guitarist, Mike Hogan as the bassist and Fergal Lawler as the

My Experience In College Students, Being A College Student
Being a college student who is taking 18 credits this semester as well as working 15 hours a week, I
experience multiple stressors every week that I try my best to deal with. Two stressors I have dealt
with the past two weeks are struggling to manage my time and arguing with my boyfriend. The past
two weeks I had a lot of assignments due as well as a major test and a quiz. I realized it was a stressor
when I got assigned our extra credit paper that was due the day before my major exam. I was already
thinking of how I was going to spend the rest of the week and the weekend to study for my exam and
quiz, prepare for my presentation, keep up with the chapters my classes are reviewing, and work.
When we got assigned the extra credit paper, I panicked a little and realized trying to figure out how to
fit all of it into my schedule was a stressor. I noticed that my heart rate slightly increased from
panicking a little and I got antsy, as in I could not sit still. I have confronted managing my time before,
when I first got my job this semester. Like I said, I am taking 18 credits, so adding working 15 hours a
week took away a lot of study time that I had to figure out how to make up. It actually cuts into my
social life a decent amount, but I live with all of my closest friends and study with them, so I see them
a decent amount. What I typically do when I freak out about how much stuff I have to do and how
little time I have, I start to plan out my days by hour in my planner. I

Evaluation Of A Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist
Summary: Michele Habich works for Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois, as a Pediatric
Clinical Nurse Specialist. Mari Jo Letizia works for the Loyola University Chicago School of Nursing
in Chicago, Illinois, as a Professor and Associate Dean. In this article, they conducted an experiment
that examined the efficiency of pediatric pain assessment. To investigate this problem, they used an
education program and examined the pediatric protocol in a community hospital. Children are taken to
the emergency department for various reasons, but pain is one of the most common. Habich and
Letizia state, Despite the high frequency of pain, pediatric patients are often not appropriately assessed
for pain. Nurses and other medical personnel failing to properly assess the pain in the emergency
department is a problem that needs to be fixed. To resolve this problem, Habich and Letizia decided to
conduct an evidence based protocol to review what ways the program needed to review. They started
by getting an overview of what was already being done to assess pain. Only 60% of patients (n=923)
were evaluated by a nurse using an accepted pain scale during their visit. Surprised by the lack of pain

Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl Analysis
Cracker( person would whip slaves) , Flogging( the beating of someone with a stick or whip for
punishment), are horrible concepts that depict the laments of chattel slavery in the United States. The
gory nature of slavery depicted through most testimonies involve one of these horrific concepts.
However, the book, Incidents in the Life Of a Slave Girl , show the lesser talked about psychological
anguish Blacks would experience. In the Book we see Linda Brent (the protagonist) mental agony as
she progressives through her narrative. Women that helped her mature life would be Mrs Flint, Aunty
Nancy, and the mistress of her friend Betty. The order in which they impacted, is Mrs Flint gave her a
more open minded perspective on chattel slavery, Aunt nancy is the inspiration for Lindas escape, and
Betty provides emotional support.
Mrs Flint is the wife of Dr Flint( the antagonist of the book) and through her horrific treatment of

affect the main race perpetuating it negatively as well. Sexual abuse of blacks through a perceived
sense of inferiority was seen as arguably crimless since they were not seen as equals to their white
counterparts. Lindas abuse can be compared to another character like maya in the book I know why

Lower Athabasca River System
The Lower Athabasca River (LAR), in northern Alberta, Canada, begins north of Fort McMurray and
flows to the Athabasca Delta and Lake Athabasca. Throughout its course, the river cuts through
natural bitumen deposits, (Conly et al. 2002) and runs adjacent to the Oil Sands developments. Fine
cohesive sediments and associated chemical constituents such as metals and polycyclic aromatic
hydrocarbons (PAHs) play an important role in the LAR ecosystem (Ghosh et al. 2000, Garcia Aragon

The proposed numerical frame work for the study is summarized in Figure 1. A one dimensional (1D)
model is used for large scale long term simulation of flow hydrodynamics and sediment transport
patterns in the LAR. Furthermore, a 1D ice model is used to predict the winter ice coverage and its
effect on the river flow characteristics; however, other ice processes (such as ice breakup) are not
taken into account. The results of the ice model are used to modify the sediment transport and
hydrodynamic models to account for the effect of winter ice cover. The sediment transport simulations

Franklin D Roosevelt Argumentative Essay
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the 32nd president of the United States and ended up serving 12 years
from 1933 until his death in 1945. He was born on January 30, 1882 in the state of New York as the
only child of the marriage between James Roosevelt, 54, and Sara Delano Roosevelt, 22 (Pearce, 2).
His mother was extremely protective of her only child, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt received no
formal education until he was age 14 (Pearce, 6) when he attended the Groton School (Pearce, 15),
which was a boarding school for boys of well off families who were being set up to go off to elite
colleges such as Harvard, where Franklin Delano Roosevelt would ultimately attend college (Pearce,

Literature Review On Sparse Group Lasso
b. Sparse Group Lasso
The sparse group lasso is also known as a special case of group lasso that place an additional penalty 1
norm of the coefficient vector. The sparse group lasso allows the overlaps in the groups. The sparse set
of group is generated by group lasso. The models in the group if included then all the variables in the
group become non zero. Sometimes we like to have both the sparsity of group and within each group,
i.e. between and within the group. Such as example, in genes expression we like to identify particular
useful genes among the number of genes, this is the focus of sparse group lasso. The sparsity in sparse
group lasso is exists in two types, first is group wise sparsity and the other is within group sparsity.

V. CONCLUSION. Feature selection is a step that finds the subset from the original feature set to
some criteria of instance importance. In this paper the concept of group feature selection is review that
specifies different approaches in this ground. This literature review examines the recent work of
feature selection where feature posses certain group structure. The methods found for group feature
selection have discussed here. The general approaches of group feature selection such as group lasso
and sparse group lasso are described. The group lasso is an extension of Standard lasso which tend to
perform group selection, if the group of features is selected then all the features in the groups are
selected. Sparse group lasso takes the advantage of group lasso and produces an efficient solution with
simultaneous between and within group. The group feature selection tries to minimize the redundant
and irrelevant features from the group to decreases the computational time. The above dimensional

The Revolution in the English Textile Industry
The hidden story is like a seed of single cotton, hidden inside its soft fluffiness. The truth is clinged
into the historical facts, through books, media, or other sources, and you have to work it this way and
that. It s almost as if the various facts want to hold on to it and keep it hidden. And the history of
cotton is too long and complicate, in a certain way, is the story about of cotton and people in America
that found the Industrial Revolution in America. Expressing the outstanding development, Karl Marx
wrote in 1846 that without cotton you have no modern industry. For Marx, the relationship between
cotton and slavery was similarly unambiguous: Without slavery, you have no cotton. (1)
Cotton came to America from England industrial development. Cotton, a shrubby plant, thrives in
warm climates just suitable for South regions and couldn t be grown in the North, because the climate
was too cold. (2) Early in the seventeenth century, agriculture in the American South was dominated
by staples or money crops products (tobacco, then rice, indigo, and sugar) that fetched a high price in
the marketplaces of Europe; finally came cotton, the king of them all. (3) By 1860, cotton dominated
the American economy. The South exported 66 percent of the world s supply, and cotton made up
more than half of the supply with almost 90 percent of cotton grown in the South. Much of Southern
society had become dependent upon a cotton culture and the institution of slavery. (4)

Before the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reformed the executive compensation
disclosure requirements regarding inside debt in 2006, it is very difficult to find out information
related to the deferred compensation. Therefore, following Sundaram and Yermack (2007), the data set
used in this paper for the period before 2006 consists of the pension data only, and ignores the
minority of the cases for which deferred compensation data are available. Sundaram and Yermack

They calculated the actuarial present value of a CEO s pension by using the following formula
∑_(n=max⁡

Where X is the annual pension amount, R is the minimum retirement age, A is the CEO s current age,

female CEOs from the actuarial tables published by the U.S Social Security Administration, d is the

pension data following the above procedure is time consuming. It involves checking each company s
proxy statement, and identifying the disclosed annual pension payments in matrix form, as required by
the SEC.

Women Are Not Objects For Women
Women are NOT Objects For as long as many can remember, women have had a difficult time dealing
with things that men have been able to do with ease. For example, throughout history, it has always
been said that men were the only ones allowed to vote for their future president, whereas women were
not. Another example was back in the 60 s when women were advertised with sexist jobs such as
being house wives while men were to be treated courteously (Sex Appeals in Advertising). With that
said, when women were getting noticed a lot more, many men found it difficult to accept that since
men basically ruled over women. However, currently, the laws and regulations that women have are
completely different than how they were before but women are still fighting a common trend that
occurs throughout the entire world. Women are seen as sexual objects to men when they desire
pleasure which allows for men to control the situation. Therefore, should women be objectified as
sexual objects and caregivers whereas males not so much? I will be answering that throughout this
essay.
With that said, I will be arguing two things; the first being that women are not intended to be a sexual
object to bring a certain pleasure to men, and secondly the Catholic Church should not have to justify
that a woman s purpose in life is only to procreate a future life. With that said, I will be focusing on
two main authors. The first author goes by the name of Miguel De La Torre and his book is called

Ballad Of Birmingham Analysis
On the surface level Dudley Randall s Ballad of Birmingham, is of a tragic event that has
misfortunately happened. A bombing on a church that has led to the loss of life. Looking at it s history
however, Randall forefronts all the emotions from the speaker with chilling diction and a rhythmic
pattern of rhyming the second and fourth line of each stanza. It brings to life a darker truth, one that
has yet to end. The poem begins first with a conversation between a mother and her daughter Mother
dear, may I go downtown instead of out to play, and march the streets of Birmingham in a Freedom
March today? This conversation occurred in 1963 Birmingham, Alabama at the height of the Civil
Rights era with Martin Luther King Jr. leading marchers advocating for equality in one of the most
racist places. The daughter asks her mother for permission to be a part of the movement but the
mother denies her as she fears for her safety No, baby, no, you may not go, for the dogs are fierce and
wild, and clubs and hoses, guns and jails aren t good for a little child. The mother is aware that black
people are not treated fairly in society but is also aware of how those that try to retaliate against it are
beaten near death or are seriously injured by dogs or pressurized hoses. She does not want her
daughter to be hurt or killed. Despite so, the daughter tries to convince her mother to let her go, But

Macbeth who committed a sin by murdering King Duncan and taking the throne gets overwhelmed

form of killing. By seeing the ghost of Banquo and hiding the death of King Duncan makes Macbeth

Using One-Stage Cluster Sampling
In cluster sampling, instead of selecting all the subjects from the entire population right off, the
researcher must take several steps in order to gather his or her sample population.
First, the researcher must select various groups or clusters, and then from each cluster, the researcher
begins to choose the individual subjects by either simple random or systematic random sampling. The
researcher can even opt to include the entire cluster and not just a subset from it depending on the
design study they have chosen.
For my particular study, I have chosen to use a simple random control trial, which is pretty common
for the testing of behavioral sciences. I have also chosen to use one stage cluster sample, this sample
includes all of the children with PTSD and severe forms of trauma that were picked from all the
randomly selected clusters in the sample set. I did this to keep my internal validity high and avoid

Pacific Coast Clemens
The San Francisco agents of this book give notice that, though some unavoidable delays have
occurred, this volume is now ready for delivery to subscribers. As to the work itself, it is well
described by the author, as being without a motive, a moral, or a plot. The only reason to be, as the
French say, is probably that the author thought he could make some money by publishing a book of
some kind, and here it is such as it is. It is apparent, as the art critics say, a pot boiler in its baldest
form. As a picture of life in the Southwest, however, there is little to be said in the book s favor,
though there are several passages which are drawn with much ability, with occasionally a touch of a
sort of grotesque pathos which greatly interests the reader. As to the rest, it is very much of the same
character as many of the author s Pacific Coast sketches, in the utter absence of truth and being unlike
anything that ever existed on the earth, above the earth, or in the waters under the earth. Some twenty
two years since, when Mr. Clemens was working as a reporter for the Territorial Enterprise, published

students, some have more emotional connect with the traditional books while others learn better with e

In this report, we are further going to discuss about the main part in which we will look at the ways
that gives the more edge to printed books in comparison to e books for student learning. According to
a new study, 92% of college students would rather do their reading the old fashioned way, with pages
and not pixels. The finding comes from American University linguistics professor Naomi S. Baron,
author of the book Words Onscreen: The Fate of Reading in a Digital World. Baron led a team that
asked 300 college students in the United States, Slovakia, Japan and Germany how they preferred to

electronic devices . (Schaub, 2016)

when it comes to online learning tools like textbooks, he wrote in an op ed for his student newspaper.

Essay on Congenital Neonatal Infections in Vertical HIV
Congenital Human Immunodeficiency Virus, also called Vertical HIV, is a serious epidemic arising
from passage of the virus to an infant from a maternal infection. The disease can have severe
symptoms for the infected newborn and is almost always fatal to the child. The fetus has a 25%
chance of infection while in utero and a 20% 50% ( depending of the country) chance of infection
during the birthing process although a cesarean birth significantly lowers the probability of neonatal
infection. The severity of the mothers HIV infection determines the chances of a fetal infection

The juxtapositional co receptor attachment to the host membrane encourages the GP41 protein to
initiate fusion by collapsing into a hairpin loop structure bringing the two membranes in close
proximity. The virus then injects the contents of the virion including machinery enzymes and the RNA
genome into the host cell where a dsDNA molecule is made and integrated into the host. The reverse
transcription process has a high mutation rate because the viral reverse transcriptase enzyme is unable
to detect or repair any mistakes as it forms the dsDNA. After the new dsDNA molecule is made it is
transported to the nucleus of the host and integrated into the host genome. The HIV genome will either
remain in a lysogenic state within the host or if actively stimulated new HIV viruses will be
constructed and released to infect neighboring cells. The ability of the virus to choose its co receptor is
called viral tropism and determines its virulence and disease progression rate. If the virus binds with
the co receptor CCR5 it is called macrophage tropic (M tropic) and characterizes most HIV infections.
The M tropic variant is regarded as less virulent because it is nonsyncytial. Some mutations of the
CCR5 gene lead to a partial immunity to the virus and can slow the disease and in some cases prevent
infection of the M tropic HIV varient. Also patients with high levels of CCR5 soluble chemokines are
more resistant to the virus. The CXCR4 chemokine co receptor is

2015 Hill Lancet Summary
The 2015 Hill Lancet study was based on concerns about the increased costs and length of stay
associated with falls during hospital stays. Specifically, the study investigated the effectiveness of
individualized falls prevention education for patients at the ward level of a hospital, backed up by
training and feedback for staff. The following is a critique of this study using the Riegelman MAARIE
framework.
Method: The study question investigated was; what impact will individualized fall prevention
education, supported by training and feedback for staff reduce have on the number of falls during
hospital stays? The study was a pragmatic study of patients admitted to one of 8 rehabilitation units in
general hospitals that were over sixty years old, with a projected hospital stay of at least three days,
and had basic cognitive functioning. 3,606 patients admitted were admitted to the eight units during
the study period, with 1,983 in the control group and 1623 in the intervention group. The pragmatic
nature of the study is a strength given the nature of the intervention. However, the investigators do not
explain the logic of limiting the study to patients over age 60, with a length of stay of at least three
days, and this restricts the extrapolation of the results to these groups.
Assignment: The study ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

statistical significance. Also, lending to the statistical significance was the fact that additional
statistical testing was performed to account for the nature of the cluster randomization. These tests

  • 2. The Capital Structure Decision Of Firms With Powerful Ceos Methodology This study looks for evidence that the capital structure decision of firms with powerful CEOs has a negative effect of corporate performance. Ho: CEO power and Leverage have no effect on performance. Ha: CEO power and Leverage have an effect on performance. In order to test this hypothesis, an OLS regression model is used, where the dependent variable is performance and the independent variables include: (1) the existence of powerful CEOs, (2) leverage, (3) the relationship between these two and (4) some control variables. Table 1 summarises all variables included in the regression function and the rationale behind the selection of each one of them. Dependent Variables Empirical researchers use a variety of performance measurements among which stands out the accounting ratio of ROA. Additionally, as the firms objective is increasing value in benefit of its owners, the Tobin s Q ratio is also used as a measure of market value of the firm, following the approach of Morck, Shleifer and Vishny (1988) and Gompers, Ishii and Metrick (2003). Independent Variables Leverage is measured by the ratio of total debt to total asset, and the CEO dominance is accounted by a proxy which is a binary variable that takes the value of 1 when the CEO was also the chairman of the board in of the 7 years from 2008 and 2014 and 0 otherwise. Power under this settings comes from the fact that there would be little to no oversight of the CEO s management, hence, exercising limitless ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Charles Dickens s Dickens Does One s Environment Have the Ability to Blacken the Soul? With difficulty, on her knees, drew from her bosom a white handkerchief Rose May lie s own and holding it up, in her folded hands, as high towards Heaven as her feeble strength would allow, breathed one [last] prayer for mercy towards her Maker (Oliver Twist, Dickens 302 revised). Throughout Oliver Twist, Charles Dickens uses his characters and props to symbolize purity, even though the environment would seem to denote everything and everyone. Incontro vertibly, some certainly conform to their environment; for example, as part of the lower class, Fagin and Sikes turn to thieving, lying, and even murder, instead of earning an honest living. Throughout the first half of the book, Dickens leads one to believe Nancy follows the same pat tern. However, as the plot develops, the reader s theories and opinions transform. Continuing on, the reader will find the answer to the dispute Dickens constantly toys with; does one s environ ment have the ability to blacken the soul and affect one s choices? Charles Dickens was born in Portsmouth, on the Southern coast of England. He was brought up in a poor household so indebted that his father, John Dickens, was sent to jail. In 1827, at the age of 15, Dickens was working, attending the theater, and taking acting lessons. In 1836 (age 24), Dickens published his very first book entitled Sketches by Boz. This was the be ginning. Dickens flourished in his new writing career ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn By Samuel Langhorne... Alexis Timm Mrs. Mirosh 1st hour English 11 21 February 2017 To Read or Not To Read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a novel published by Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known by his pen name as Mark Twain, in 1884. The story is more than just a story however as many adults, parents, and educators believe that this book is unfit for a classroom setting. What they are unable or (unwilling) to see are the benefits of reading and analyzing this story. It allows students to understand history in context as well as understanding the vernacular of the time, it also allows opportunities for discussing conflicting views and controversial issues in a safe and controlled environment. History can be a vague concept to study and understand. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Leigh, Punchnels) While that is alright for a school to do that, and they have every right to do so, kids will come into contact with words like that again and they cannot be protected forever. For example, Huckleberry Finn has been banned in schools nationwide for using the word nigger two hundred and nineteen times over the course of the novel. (News, CBS) Many people have backed up and valid arguments for banning the book and they are entitled to their opinions. Some parents do not wish for their children to be exposed to the content in the story at the age of the child when the book is introduced. Violence and sexual themes in all forms of media have found their ways to today s youth. In just the 32 years Banned Books week has been acknowledged, over 11,000 books have been challenged. (Leigh, Punchnels) The presence of witchcraft, encouragement of damaging lifestyles, violence, and negativity are all reasons that books have been challenged in the United States. All schools and educational institutions of any sort have a policy regarding the selection of instructional materials. The Denali Borough School District in Alaska is a school system that opened up to talk about their policy. Alaska is one of the few states in the United States that allows schools to more or less govern themselves, giving them soft standards ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Gangsta s Paradise Gcse Analysis The song itself is accessible in terms of the sound it is definitely not tough and dirty rap for only Hip Hop biggest and the most dedicated fans but pop music enthusiasts would also like the track. The melody is very catchy and easy to remember. However, the situation is absolutely different in terms of lyrics. Gangsta s Paradise is the example of dark rap about the unreal lifestyle of the young criminals from poor districts of the United States1. The video starts with the picture of school corridor but this one is extremely unfriendly. There are few pupils who are definitely not looking like teenagers; person in the middle is working out it seems that in their violent world trained muscles will be more useful than the trained brain. Michelle Pfeiffer is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... who is the lead voice in the chorus. Coolio has black dreadlocks, black big jacket and black glasses with which he is playing around when he is rapping. The atmosphere is very serious and stuffy. Coolio, while explaining the helpless situation of those young people, is walking around with the one single candle. Symbol of hope? Does not seem so because in the video only the very last scene presents one fragment from the movie which is optimistic: Michelle Pfeiffer and her students laughing, dancing clearly to Hip Hop, having fun. The rest of the video is very dark. Scenes selected from the movie are focused on the aggressive behavior of school kids and vulnerable teachers who gave up on them. Abandoned buildings with graffiti on the walls, very simple classrooms, fights and the police who is not asking questions this is the world of black young people3. Gangsta s Paradise is the song with the very important social message telling about problems which young people from the poorest districts of the United States were facing every day. It is about being helpless and about indifference from the white community and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Harry Potter Hero Essay In the book and movie series Harry Potter, the famous boy wizard goes through his many years of schooling at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, making new friends like his best friends, Ron and Hermione, as well as creating enemies like Draco Malfoy. It s always been the battle between the opinions and the views of the far right and the far left. Even to this day, they are separated and always put in situations where they bounce ideas back and forth. Now, what this essay will focus on is not the differences between both sides but the differences and similarities within the far right, as well as the far left. We will not be comparing the right and the left, but rather the right to the right. Reactionaries and traditional conservatives, they are both in the far right but they are from different era s. Would they still have the same point of views or are they slightly different? How exaggerated will their ideas be considering that both ideologies were influenced by the same principles. Would they have the same methods and goals? Are they all the same, that there s no point in finding the differences between a traditional conservatives and a reactionary? Or are they simply contradicting themselves? Looking at the radical side of the political spectrum we are faced with the theories of Karl Marx, who rejected the idea of a capitalist form of government due to the inequalities that it comes with. It can occur in the form of physical, mental or emotional abuse. In general, bullying has been perceived as aggressive behavior that is intentional, harassment, and an imbalance of power with the result of inflicting pain or discomfort on others ( Bullying ). Thousands of children in the United States are affected every day by bullying. This kind of behavior is detrimental to all involved and should not be allowed in any school system as it can quickly affect an individual beyond anyone s imagination. For example, someone who fears spiders is not going to walk that trail that leads into a wooded area and you can almost guarantee that the person who isn t too fond of heights isn t going to walk across that tall bridge. If you ask these people why they won t partake in these activates, they would probably respond with I don t want to or I m afraid to . Sure most, if not all, of us are afraid of something. I m not thrilled to be standing up in front of everyone giving a speech, but here I stand. b. If your fear prevents you from doing certain activates, then it isn t just a fear, it is actually a phobia. In 2013, Patterson wrote that, A phobia is described as a chronic and extreme fear of an object or situation out of proportion to the danger actually presented by the feared thing. (p. 58). c. I find this description to be most accurate because I, at one point in my life, had a phobia. The phobia I had is called coasterphobia and if the name isn t a dead giveaway, it is the fear of rollercoasters. The Pros And Cons Of Counterfeiting If you have ever traveled to another country, you have probably seen vendors on the sidewalks or streets, selling designer brand goods at a really cheap price. You may have even purchased something from them. The fashion industry is a 1.2 trillion dollar global industry and employs 1.9 million people in the United States alone (Maloney, 2015). There is one market that is proving to be detrimental to this powerhouse industry. The black market of fashion, which produces counterfeit goods that are being sold at a fraction of the price of the originals. Whatever the reason a consumer has for purchasing a counterfeit product, that sale will still influence the global economy. Counterfeiting leads to huge losses for not only the industry, but also a loss of tax revenue for governments. It is estimated that counterfeiting consists of 5% to 7% of world trade and produces profits of over 650 billion dollars annually ( Challenges of Selling , 2008). Not only does counterfeiting steal profits from legitimate retailers, but it also causes loss of jobs, other, more violent crimes, supports child labor, and puts consumers health at risk (Bell, 2016). Since most illegal counterfeiting operations are run by organized crime rings, no taxes are paid, and the profits from selling these goods are often used to support other crimes such as drug and human trafficking, money laundering and even terrorism. Feature selection is a step that finds the subset from the original feature set to some criteria of instance importance. In this paper the concept of group feature selection is review that specifies different approaches in this ground. This literature review examines the recent work of feature selection where feature posses certain group structure. The methods found for group feature selection have discussed here. The general approaches of group feature selection such as group lasso and sparse group lasso are described. The group lasso is an extension of Standard lasso which tend to perform group selection, if the group of features is selected then all the features in the groups are selected. Sparse group lasso takes the advantage of group lasso and produces an efficient solution with simultaneous between and within group. The group feature selection tries to minimize the redundant and irrelevant features from the group to decreases the computational time. The truth is clinged into the historical facts, through books, media, or other sources, and you have to work it this way and that. It s almost as if the various facts want to hold on to it and keep it hidden. And the history of cotton is too long and complicate, in a certain way, is the story about of cotton and people in America that found the Industrial Revolution in America. Expressing the outstanding development, Karl Marx wrote in 1846 that without cotton you have no modern industry. For Marx, the relationship between cotton and slavery was similarly unambiguous: Without slavery, you have no cotton. (1) Cotton came to America from England industrial development. Cotton, a shrubby plant, thrives in warm climates just suitable for South regions and couldn t be grown in the North, because the climate was too cold. (2) Early in the seventeenth century, agriculture in the American South was dominated by staples or money crops products (tobacco, then rice, indigo, and sugar) that fetched a high price in the marketplaces of Europe; finally came cotton, the king of them all. (3) By 1860, cotton dominated the American economy. The South exported 66 percent of the world s supply, and cotton made up more than half of the supply with almost 90 percent of cotton grown in the South. Much of Southern society had become dependent upon a cotton culture and the institution of slavery. (4) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Variable measurement and sample selection Before the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reformed the executive compensation disclosure requirements regarding inside debt in 2006, it is very difficult to find out information related to the deferred compensation. Therefore, following Sundaram and Yermack (2007), the data set used in this paper for the period before 2006 consists of the pension data only, and ignores the minority of the cases for which deferred compensation data are available. Sundaram and Yermack (2007) calculate the actuarial present values of each CEO s pension at the end of each fiscal year. They calculated the actuarial present value of a CEO s pension by using the following formula ∑_(n=max⁡ (0,R A))^(K A)▒p(n)X/〖(1+d)〗^n Where X is the annual pension amount, R is the minimum retirement age, A is the CEO s current age, p(n) is the probability that the CEO is alive n years in the future, collected separately for male and female CEOs from the actuarial tables published by the U.S Social Security Administration, d is the cost of long term debt, and K is the terminal year of the pension (maximum is set 120). • 32. Women Are Not Objects For Women Women are NOT Objects For as long as many can remember, women have had a difficult time dealing with things that men have been able to do with ease. For example, throughout history, it has always been said that men were the only ones allowed to vote for their future president, whereas women were not. Another example was back in the 60 s when women were advertised with sexist jobs such as being house wives while men were to be treated courteously (Sex Appeals in Advertising). With that said, when women were getting noticed a lot more, many men found it difficult to accept that since men basically ruled over women. However, currently, the laws and regulations that women have are completely different than how they were before but women are still fighting a common trend that occurs throughout the entire world. Women are seen as sexual objects to men when they desire pleasure which allows for men to control the situation. Therefore, should women be objectified as sexual objects and caregivers whereas males not so much? I will be answering that throughout this essay. With that said, I will be arguing two things; the first being that women are not intended to be a sexual object to bring a certain pleasure to men, and secondly the Catholic Church should not have to justify that a woman s purpose in life is only to procreate a future life. With that said, I will be focusing on two main authors. The first author goes by the name of Miguel De La Torre and his book is called Doing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Ballad Of Birmingham Analysis On the surface level Dudley Randall s Ballad of Birmingham, is of a tragic event that has misfortunately happened. A bombing on a church that has led to the loss of life. Looking at it s history however, Randall forefronts all the emotions from the speaker with chilling diction and a rhythmic pattern of rhyming the second and fourth line of each stanza. It brings to life a darker truth, one that has yet to end. The poem begins first with a conversation between a mother and her daughter Mother dear, may I go downtown instead of out to play, and march the streets of Birmingham in a Freedom March today? This conversation occurred in 1963 Birmingham, Alabama at the height of the Civil Rights era with Martin Luther King Jr. leading marchers advocating for equality in one of the most racist places. The daughter asks her mother for permission to be a part of the movement but the mother denies her as she fears for her safety No, baby, no, you may not go, for the dogs are fierce and wild, and clubs and hoses, guns and jails aren t good for a little child. The mother is aware that black people are not treated fairly in society but is also aware of how those that try to retaliate against it are beaten near death or are seriously injured by dogs or pressurized hoses. • 35. Using One-Stage Cluster Sampling In cluster sampling, instead of selecting all the subjects from the entire population right off, the researcher must take several steps in order to gather his or her sample population. First, the researcher must select various groups or clusters, and then from each cluster, the researcher begins to choose the individual subjects by either simple random or systematic random sampling. The researcher can even opt to include the entire cluster and not just a subset from it depending on the design study they have chosen. For my particular study, I have chosen to use a simple random control trial, which is pretty common for the testing of behavioral sciences. I have also chosen to use one stage cluster sample, this sample includes all of the children with PTSD and severe forms of trauma that were picked from all the randomly selected clusters in the sample set. • 36. Pacific Coast Clemens The San Francisco agents of this book give notice that, though some unavoidable delays have occurred, this volume is now ready for delivery to subscribers. As to the work itself, it is well described by the author, as being without a motive, a moral, or a plot. The only reason to be, as the French say, is probably that the author thought he could make some money by publishing a book of some kind, and here it is such as it is. It is apparent, as the art critics say, a pot boiler in its baldest form. As a picture of life in the Southwest, however, there is little to be said in the book s favor, though there are several passages which are drawn with much ability, with occasionally a touch of a sort of grotesque pathos which greatly interests the reader. As to the rest, it is very much of the same character as many of the author s Pacific Coast sketches, in the utter absence of truth and being unlike anything that ever existed on the earth, above the earth, or in the waters under the earth. Some twenty two years since, when Mr. Clemens was working as a reporter for the Territorial Enterprise, published in Virginia City, Nevada, he signalized his career by getting up a series of startling stories, the most prominent feature of which was the lack of a grain of fact. According to a new study, 92% of college students would rather do their reading the old fashioned way, with pages and not pixels. The finding comes from American University linguistics professor Naomi S. Baron, author of the book Words Onscreen: The Fate of Reading in a Digital World. Baron led a team that asked 300 college students in the United States, Slovakia, Japan and Germany how they preferred to read. Physical books were the choice of 92% of the respondents, who selected paper over an array of electronic devices . Essay on Congenital Neonatal Infections in Vertical HIV Congenital Human Immunodeficiency Virus, also called Vertical HIV, is a serious epidemic arising from passage of the virus to an infant from a maternal infection. The disease can have severe symptoms for the infected newborn and is almost always fatal to the child. The fetus has a 25% chance of infection while in utero and a 20% 50% ( depending of the country) chance of infection during the birthing process although a cesarean birth significantly lowers the probability of neonatal infection. The severity of the mothers HIV infection determines the chances of a fetal infection meaning the more advance the disease in the mother the high the possibility of transmission through placental cord blood. Infection can also occur from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The juxtapositional co receptor attachment to the host membrane encourages the GP41 protein to initiate fusion by collapsing into a hairpin loop structure bringing the two membranes in close proximity. The virus then injects the contents of the virion including machinery enzymes and the RNA genome into the host cell where a dsDNA molecule is made and integrated into the host. The reverse transcription process has a high mutation rate because the viral reverse transcriptase enzyme is unable to detect or repair any mistakes as it forms the dsDNA. After the new dsDNA molecule is made it is transported to the nucleus of the host and integrated into the host genome. The HIV genome will either remain in a lysogenic state within the host or if actively stimulated new HIV viruses will be constructed and released to infect neighboring cells. The ability of the virus to choose its co receptor is called viral tropism and determines its virulence and disease progression rate. If the virus binds with the co receptor CCR5 it is called macrophage tropic (M tropic) and characterizes most HIV infections. The M tropic variant is regarded as less virulent because it is nonsyncytial. Some mutations of the CCR5 gene lead to a partial immunity to the virus and can slow the disease and in some cases prevent infection of the M tropic HIV varient. Also patients with high levels of CCR5 soluble chemokines are more resistant to the virus. The CXCR4 chemokine co receptor is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Specifically, the study investigated the effectiveness of individualized falls prevention education for patients at the ward level of a hospital, backed up by training and feedback for staff. The following is a critique of this study using the Riegelman MAARIE framework. Method: The study question investigated was; what impact will individualized fall prevention education, supported by training and feedback for staff reduce have on the number of falls during hospital stays? The study was a pragmatic study of patients admitted to one of 8 rehabilitation units in general hospitals that were over sixty years old, with a projected hospital stay of at least three days, and had basic cognitive functioning. 3,606 patients admitted were admitted to the eight units during the study period, with 1,983 in the control group and 1623 in the intervention group. The pragmatic nature of the study is a strength given the nature of the intervention. However, the investigators do not explain the logic of limiting the study to patients over age 60, with a length of stay of at least three days, and this restricts the extrapolation of the results to these groups.
