Joseph O Loughlin
Joseph O Loughlin is the central character in the Joseph O Loughlin series of novels authored by
popular Australian author Michael Robotham. The first novel that featured the O Loughlin character
was the 2004 title Suspect . The novels in the series are best classified as detective crime mysteries.
The best description of Joseph O Loughlin is that of a family man, a kindhearted psychologist with a
dry sense of humor and a magnificent sense of humanity. He works alongside his best friend the
former detective and hard drinking Vincent Ruiz whose personality could not be any more different.
Nonetheless, the two characters have great chemistry and complement each other in their work.
The series of novels is set in London and introduces the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and a series of brutal links where women and men have been choked conscious and left tattooed with
an A on their foreheads. But as he gets closer to the killer his fate and those of his loved ones is

Four Unifying Principles
UNIFYING PRINCIPLES OF ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR AND MANAGEMENT
ABSTRACT Theories and models of organizational behavior and management continue to increase in
number and complexity. While much of the recent research has not made its way into standard
business textbooks, these textbooks nonetheless offer a broad array of topics and concepts that can
easily overwhelm both student and practitioner. No common thread appears to link these disparate
topics, despite the fact that variations on the same theory often can be found across topics. This paper
describes four underlying principles of organizational behavior and management that distill and
synthesize essential features of many of the established theories and models. Each principle ... Show

The concepts related to each principle can be viewed, alternatively, as dichotomous (a choice among
opposites), continuous (a point along a continuum), or paradoxical (a contradiction or dialectic to be
resolved), and applied in combination to interpret and circumscribe specific theories. Finally, the
implications of these underlying principles for teaching management and organizational behavior as
well as for conducting organizational and case analyses are discussed.
THE UNIFYING PRINCIPLES There are four unifying principles presented in this paper, each
principle represented by two contrasting concepts. The principles are briefly described below, and the
application of each principle to organizational behavior and management is illustrated through several
examples. The intent of these examples is to demonstrate the range of applications for each principle,
rather than to provide an exhaustive analysis. (A more complete set of applications is available from
the author.)
INDIVIDUAL VS. COLLECTIVE
Description of the Principle
Perhaps no concepts are more central to our understanding of organizations and management than
those of the individual versus the collective. In a generic sense, the term individual means singular,
solitary, one, alone, separate, while the term collective means many, multiple, together, gathered, joint.
In human terms, these two words represent the

The Cunningic Character Traits Of Odysseus
I think the one heroic character trait that fits Odysseus best is cunning . There are many stories from
The Wanderings that shows just how cunning Odysseus is; from tricking monsters like the cyclops, to
pretending to be a beggar so he could reclaim his kingdom. Some of these stories may not sound like
much but without Odysseus s cunning trait things would have ended up completely different. If
Odysseus didn t have his cunning trait he wouldn t have been able to trick the suitors into thinking he
was a beggar, but because Odysseus is such a cunning hero he is able to have much more power than
others. One great example to show just how cunning Odysseus is, is the story about the cyclops, who
had planned to eat Odysseus and his shipmates. One of the ideas that Odysseus had to get rid of the
cyclops was to have him drink so much wine that he wouldn t be able to focus and so he could be
knocked out. Tricking the cyclops gave Odysseus and his shipmates another chance to get away from
the cyclops. A piece of evidence from the cyclops story that shows Odysseus s cunning trait is a quote
from the story, it says My moment was at hand, and I went forward holding an ivy bowl of my dark
drink, this quote shows Odysseus s idea of giving the cyclops the wine so he would be knocked out
and so Odysseus could have a better chance at killing him and getting away. Another very interesting
story that showed Odysseus s cunning trait is the story of The Cattle of the Sun God. Odysseus

The Music That Transformed A Hidden Classic Into Modern...
The Music That Transformed a Hidden Classic into Modern Culture Le Fantôme de l Opéra, a
fictional novel published in 1911, by Gaston Leroux, puts the reader right in the catacombs of the
Paris Opera House in the late 1800s (Cox: Oxford Reference). An adventure, involving tragic love and
gothic elements, surrounds a detective s search to reveal the mystery of the Phantom of the Opera .
The detective acts as the narrator who reflects on his investigations of the Paris Opera House through
allusions and the tragedies that occur throughout the novel s entirety. Leroux especially highlights the
Phantom s undying love for a woman named Christine Daae and displaying the most primitive feeling
towards another. The novel itself has inspired ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She argues that adaptations are a continuous development of culture and that with adaptations, we
seem to desire the repetition as much as the change ; however, she argues that a work is transformed
(Hutcheon 9). Her valuable points about the rationale of adaptation work is the underlying argument
in the continuation of making original works more valuable and in The Phantom of the Opera, music
does just that. When the musical was adapted from the novel, it heavily maintained the idea that music
was the central theme within the novel s allusions and metaphors. Music is an emotionally charged
realm and can evoke the most powerful of emotions if done well. The original text of the novel is
merely highlighted with the use of the composed soundtrack by Webber. Webber s adaptation of The
Phantom of the Opera is one of the most ideal examples of this phenomenal skill of leaving an original
story completely rendered into a product seeping with art. It is important to note when referencing
adaptations that the first definition that appears when one looks up adaptation into the Oxford
Reference dictionary are a variety of definitions that range from just about everything from an
adaptation of a book to an adaptation of a recipe. This being noted, one can assume that an adaptation
is any sort of adjustment to an original piece of work. However, Hutcheon references Walter
Benjamin, a German cultural critic, where he states that

Analysis Of Out Of The Attic By Briann G. Greenfield
Likewise, many historians consider the importance of studying the Colonial Revival from a material
culture lens. Alan Axelrod articulates, Objects play a central role in the processes of the Colonial
Revival. Similarly, Briann G. Greenfield s Out of the Attic: Inventing Antiques in Twentieth Century
New England, suggests an extension of this idea of the centrality of objects. It is, in effect, a
celebration of material culture as it relates to a larger historical context. Greenfield effectively
describes the evolution of historical and aesthetic use of antiques from the 1900 s onward. Acts of
collecting, selling, and displaying the antiques are points of interest in her collection of essays. She
notes t antiques as a means to define ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chapter three presents Jessie Barker Gardner and George Gardner as twentieth century antique
collectors based in Providence New England. The couple were small time, middle class antique
collectors. They were interested in the philanthropic area of collecting. The Gardner s sought to make
a connection between the collegiate space and the museum. Eventually, the Gardner s donated many
of their most prized collectables to Brown University. They implemented very crafty and effective
sales techniques. Their goal was to subvert the market and capture the antiques at bargain prices.
Though Jessie and George Gardner relished the pursuit of collecting and philanthropy, it was almost
always about the profitability. This discussion offers a connection to Thomas Denenberg s use of
Wallace Nutting. Like Nutting, the Gardner s excelled in a plethora of marketing techniques and
entrepreneurship. She further links the importance of consumer culture that Denenberg alludes too.
Chapter four is devoted Henry Flynt and his efforts in historic preservation and antiques in Deerfield,
Massachusetts. He, too, believed that historic objects reflected American patriotism. He criticized
Williamsburg and Deerfield as being restored or preserved villages.
Conversely, under his direction, Deerfield, Massachusetts became a natural preservation. This chapter

Essay on The Leisure Class
Felicia Henry Nailon
Veblen, Thorstein. (1899). The Theory of The Leisure Class. New York: The Macmillan Company.
Authors Purpose
Thorstein Veblen initiated a new approach to economic theory that took account of evolving social and
institutional contexts and considered their human implications. In his examination of the leisure class,
he looks at non economic features of their social life. In this economic analysis he probes the
beginning of time and travels down through history to discover the origin of the leisure class.
Specific Areas to Be Covered
Veblen examines the demand and consumption of the upper classes of society in terms that are not
traditionally used in economics. In using terms such as conspicuous consumption, ... Show more

The standards are determined by conspicuous waste and workmanship. These and the predatory
animus shape the standard of life. (Veblen: 105) The wider the distance between the classes and the
slower the degree of class mobility, the slower the process of change. The standards are determined by
conspicuous waste and workmanship.
Conspicuous Consumption
Veblen notes that the common element of conspicuous leisure and conspicuous consumption is waste.
Conspicuous leisure represents a waste of time and effort, whereas conspicuous consumption
represents a waste of goods. Both are methods of demonstrating the possession of wealth and the two
are usually accepted as the same. There are at least two conceptions of conspicuous consumption in
the The Theory of the Leisure Class, these are:
(1) Conspicuous consumption characterized by particular end results or as a function.
(2) Conspicuous consumption as intention, motive, or instinct.
Thorsten Veblen s conspicuous consumption stems from the division of wealth that was infinitely
more obvious a hundred years ago when the divide between the haves and have nots was easier to
establish though the divide is in actuality even wider today. Thorsten Veblen s conspicuous
consumption grew from pecuniary emulation.
In order to gain and to hold the esteem of people it is not sufficient merely to possess wealth or power.
The wealth most be evident because esteem is only awarded on evidence.

Weinstein Feminist Theory
Men are considered to be the dominant gender in basically every industry. This heavily applies to the
Hollywood film industry, where most films are directed, produced and/or written by men. With this, it
s no doubt that these men have a sense of power over everything, since they are in charge.
Unfortunately, some men take this power a little too far. Over the years, various male celebrities have
been accused of sexual abuse and harassment towards their female co stars, assistants etc. The most
recent example of this is the various allegations against one of the biggest film producer in
Hollywood, Harvey Weinstein. Since the allegations have come out, a bunch of female celebrities
have lent their support towards the victims of Weinstein and some even shared their own experiences
with the disgraced producer. However, not many male celebrities have come out to condemn
Weinstein s actions. In fact, The Guardian, a British news agency released an article stating that they
asked over 20 male celebrities who worked closely with the producer, and none of them returned their
calls at the time (Wong and Levin,2017). To explain the event and why Weinstein and these male
celebrities acted the way they did in this situation, I decided to use the classical theory Conflict Theory
and the contemporary theory Feminist Theory. After looking at both theories, I have decided that
Conflict Theory is the best way to explain this situation due to the power status Weinstein and the men

Celebrities And Consumer Culture Of Citizens
Celebrities and consumers alike have evolved thoroughly throughout the years, which has led to them
overlapping quite exponentially. Personalities are interlinked majorly with consumers since without
the other; the other would cease to exist. This is evident as celebrities livelihood relies completely
upon the consumer culture of citizens, which is what makes them famous, and gives them that
celebrity role. Whilst this is apparent, the links involve
As stated by Graeme Turner in Understanding Celebrity, the contemporary celebrity will usually have
emerged from the sports or entertainment industries; they will be highly visible through the media;
and their private lives will attract greater public interest than their professional lives which is quite an
accurate statement. A majority of the public believes that celebrities exist for the publics sake and
combined with the statement without us they are nobody it sort of correlates. But when you think
about the fact that these are people too with feelings, families and private lives, not so much. The
introduction of social media allowing everyday people to intrude on celebrities lives also breaks the
barrier marginally. This allows for another level of interaction for personalities to reach out to the
public and therefore can have massive impacts on their stardom. The function of celebrity is to be the
super human . In fashion industries enormous pressure is put on models to remain skinny and
attractive . This is where

Drunk Driving Thesis
Essay 1 If you want a job or want to go anywhere, you re going to need a driver s license. Whether it
is school, work, shopping, or just hanging out with friends, you will need a driver s license. Or maybe
even the necessary places like, the grocery, or work. Most states allow people to receive a license at
the age of sixteen. The driving test teens have to take to receive their license is different in every state.
Some states are harder on their drivers than other states are. Teen drivers have a history of being
unsafe drivers, but precautions have been made to limit wrecks that involve them. Sixteen is the
general age you have to be to earn a license. But, is that too young? There are some shocking facts
about these young drivers being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The graduated license is a prime example of this. This system is a licensing process used in thirty
seven different states. They all follow the same basic plan though. The first step is not being able to
drive without a licensed driver in the vehicle. Then, they can drive alone, but on a limited time and a
limited number of passengers in the car. Finally, the final stage is a completely unrestricted license.
But, there is a downside to that system. Many teens feel as if that system penalizes all teens including
the ones that drive safely. However, despite these claims, states have found that graduated licensing
has, indeed, reduced the number of teen accidents. (Teen Drivers par 7). There are many other actions
to increase driving safety. Such as taking a driver s education course. Or maybe even limiting the
number of passengers allowed in your car. There are many ways to make driving safer.
Driving can be full of danger. Whether you re sixteen or fifty six, you always need to be cautious.
Sixteen to nineteen is the general danger age of driving teens. You need to be very mature and
responsible to be a safe driver. Decrease the risks by being safe. Watch your time limit and number of
passengers in your car. Just be safe and responsible, and you will be just fine. Teen drivers can be
dangerous, but there are ways to prevent the dangers from

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Swot
Strengths One of CanGo s major strengths is that roughly 80 percent of their sales come from Just In
Time (JIT) inventory ( Financial Information, n.d.). Having such a high percentage of their sales
coming from JIT inventory allows CanGo to keep their overhead expenses low while still ensuring
their products are still available. One of the ways that this lowers their overhead is by reducing the
warehouse space needed. Since most of the inventory arrives just in time to be shipped, there is no
need to have a place to store it. Keeping their JIT inventory at roughly 80 percent also helps CanGo to
serve their customers faster and more efficiently by giving them more control over the manufacturing
process. This control makes it easier to quickly respond to any changes in the customer s needs
(Conrad, n.d.). Another one of their strengths is that they have positive sales for all their divisions. The
assumptions statement on their financial statement says that their online book sales division is their
only profitable division. However, their financial statements show that their MP3/CD/DVD division
had a 233.3 percent increase from to 2008 to 2009 with an additional 8 million dollars in inventory left
over, while the Books division only had a 114.3 percent increase over the same time frame. Since

job market in Hospitality Industry. With the promotion of wine tourism, F B service professionals with
right skills are needed to deliver required service. In the current scenario where people have started to
use spare money and time, there is a wide scope of introduction of wine as a drink with food in
general masses. As we have burgeoning middle class with spare money and time, there is big market
to cater at home front.
The process of preparation, production, storing and service of wines itself involves lots of
employment opportunities and economic potential. With cheap labour in India we can do lot more
than developed countries of west and give good competition in quality and price for the production
and preparation of quality wines. India can certainly be favourite outsourced destination for
production of quality grapes for wine production and even become producers of finest wines.
As vinification requires professionals to prepare wine hence promoting vinification will enhance many
outlets for source of wine as a drink along with dinner, rather than spirits. Once the difference of
spirits and wine is established, we will see a lot of demand for wines.
Hence viticulture vinification can bring International recognition to Indian wines and due to cheap
labour India will see a boom in wine tourism. At the same time we will require

Benefits During Middle Childhood
During middle childhood, being a good parent requires the ability to adjust to your child s fluctuating
needs with as little conflict as possible (Eccles, 1999, p. 40). Children at this age are looking to gain
independence while still needing the stability of home (Eccles, 1999, p. 40). Because of this, if a

middle childhood a child benefits from knowing that there is an adult who loves them, that can handle

I used many different sources of information such as internet websites, videos, articles etc and the non

easier to look for any wanted information as it was a lot quicker and I was able to personalise the type
of search that I wanted to conduct. I also had the facility to screen print, copy the main points and get
the images instantly so that I could show it as my reference. Non internet sources was also very useful
to find the information but I had to spend more time while researching as I had to flick through many
pages just to find the article about the laptops and the information that I gained were all very limited.
The possible improvement would be that if I tried researching more using the non internet sources by
talking with the technology experts etc. There were many dates that I had come across during the
research of the pull out section. In order to check that if the dates were correct I looked into many
different search engines which showed that the dated that I obtained were accurate. To check the
reliability of the results in the search engines I researched typed Osborne 1 in Google, Bing, Yahoo
and Dogpile.
Even if I used four different search engines the results that I found were very similar

In the last few years, Tesla Motors, Inc. is growing rapidly. Tesla has more than three thousand
employees in December, 2012. [3] And the number has been increased to six thousand in January,
2014. However, the relatively high price of Tesla electric cars cannot be ignored. Average customers
cannot afford such a car that is priced more that $70,000. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Motors, Inc.,
gave the opinion that Tesla is trying to eventually offer electric vehicles that are affordable to most
consumers. [4][5] A mature model under $40,000 is expected by 2017. [6][7]
Under such cases, some research on the famous Tesla Motors, Inc. and its electric vehicles will be
conducted in the paper. The study mainly focuses on whether the electric vehicles made by Tesla is

use? Although many people assume such electric cars can pollute less, a few people have another
theory that such kind of vehicles isn?t as environmentally friendly as what people expected. In a way,

Analysis Of The Sum Of Our Follies
The Sum of Our Follies (2014) is a recent Malaysian fictional work written by Shih Li Kow. It is a
regional piece a addressing the most conspicuous thrillers of place s meaning and literary imagination.
The story hinges upon several episodes in a small town called Lubok Sayong and other replaces.
Furthermore, the plot includes a number of perennial actions which perpetuate the token of proximity
shared by the lives of Lubok Sayong s inhabitants who reciprocate their visions in an agnate
perspective on life. It is an inherent call for the common sense of human individuality in a collective
place uniting different ways of life. These people are the authentic human phenomenon in a fictional
setting. In fact, the story depicts real life images, such as contemporary Malaysian peripheries; and
challenged once again by socio cultural apathy, the specter of the story s fictional pluralism and the
affectionate buoyancy of Shih Li Kow who seems particularly instructive (Cross, 2006: 49).
The novel tells the story of a middle aged man called Auyong, or the narrator, and an orphan girl Mary

Albany Plan was a plan to create a unified government for the Thirteen Colonies. It was proposed by

Bowen Family Systems Theory for Differentiated Evaluatoin
Bowen incorporated a theoretical scale for differentiation evaluation. A person with a lesser degree of
undifferentiation has a weak identity or weak sense of self (Fritzlan, 1990). The larger amount of
undifferentiation or differentiated, a person is more fused with others and has a common sense of self.
An example is a person with a strong sense of themselves has the ability to express themselves clearly,
which Bowen calls the solid self (Fritzlan, 1990). Bowen indicates this type of person will not
compromise their self or beliefs for their family or other people. A person on the low end of scale

A conscious level can be teaching other family member whereas an unconscious level is emotional
behaviors or reactions (Bowen Theory, 2014). Parents actively shape their children while children
respond to their parent attitudes, moods and actions. The consequence of parents shaping their
children is parents cause their children to have the same level of differentiation as the parents. The
children may then seek out mates with the same level of differentiation as mentioned in nuclear family
emotional process. The levels of differentiation becomes more distinct over multigenerational as the
differentiation is repeated through generations (Bowen Theory, 2014). The different levels of
differentiation can affect the whole life functions of a multigenerational family from marital stability,
longevity, health, reproduction, educational success or failure, and occupational success (Bowen
Theory, 2014). The transmission occurring through multigenerational not only affect an individual s
sense of self but how the interact with other people.
Triangles
The concept of triangles is the central part of Bowen s family theory. The theory of triangles means a
three person relationship and is considered the smallest established relationship (Brown, 2014). The
two person relationship is considered unstable because it endures only a small amount of tension
before a third individual becomes involved in the relationship (Bowen Theory, 2014). Triangling

Why Is Summer Homework Essay
Argument Essay
Have you ever wondered why we have summer homework when we should be having fun during our
summer break? Every year when we get out of school we come home with more homework to help us
try to not forget what we learned in the past year. What if I told you summer homework could be
harmful to us. It could be and here s why. There s not enough book to choose from, never learned the
work, and it stresses everyone out. So summer homework may need to be rethought.
We all know the feeling when you pick up a book and can t put it down. Sometimes that s not the case
with summer reading books. Your assigned with a book or two that you have to read and do a report
on. Sometimes you love it, sometimes you don t. If you love it great, you can easily finish it and do a
book report on it. But what if you don t like it? Well either way you still have to read it. But if you don
t like it it s a dread to go on. If you don t like it you won t pay attention as much and might get lost and
can t follow the story. Once you start your book report you have no idea what you re talking about.
Than what happens? You get a bad grade. About 78% of people don t do well on a book ... Show more

You just came back from vacation and then you remember, you have summer work. You race to get it
done before school. You stay up late to get it done. Parents try to help, but kids under pressure turn
them away. This is one of the biggest problems of summer homework. It stresses not only the kids out,
but the parents too. Parents try to help all they can, but kids yell at the and tell them to go away. You
also mostly think of getting it done, not getting a good grade. Kids alo try to get it done in the middle
of the summer, but kids have sports. When kids try to do summer work and not play sports, it s taking
time away from the kids to exercise and socialize. If there is no summer work it will let kid and
parents relax and have fun with their kids during the long summer

Obstacles In The Odyssey
In The Odyssey, Odysseus was one of Greek s greatest and most popular heroes. He was faced with
many obstacles throughout the story in which he had to overcome. He was not the strong man , such
as Achilles. He was more of a man of thought, patience, and clever tricks. Three instances in which
Odysseus used his intelligence to overcome the obstacles he faced were when he tricked the Cyclops
into getting drunk, got past the Sirens, and got Circe to turn his men back into humans. To begin with,
Odysseus used his intelligence to convince Circe to turn his men back into humans. Odysseus traveled
to Aeaea with his men, the home of Circe. Circe drugged some of Odysseus men and has locked your

Odysseus entered the land of the Cyclopes, where his men had spotted a cave with sheep, milk, and
cheese. Odysseus men told him to get some of the food and quickly leave, but they decided to stay
awhile. The Cyclops Polyphemus, Poseidon s son, returned to his cave. He showed the men hospitality
at first, but soon turned dangerous and ate two of Odysseus men and trapped Odysseus and the
remainder of his men to devour later. Odysseus then used his intelligence to strategize and execute his
plan. While the Cyclops was busy, Odysseus found a wooden stake and hardens it. He then was able to
convince Polyphemus to get drunk using the wine he had brought from the ship. When the Cyclops
asked Odysseus what his name was, Odysseus replied Cyclops, you ask me for my noted name; I ll
tell it to you if in recompense you keep your promise and I get that present. My name is No one; No
one so I m called by both my mother and my father, and all my comrades. (Mandelbaum 180) The
Cyclops fell to the ground, and Odysseus and a few of his crew struck the Cyclops in the eye with the
wooden stake. When asked what was wrong, Polyphemus yelled out that No one was stabbing him.

The Pros And Cons Of Haiti
Since 1994, Haiti has experienced seven major military and humanitarian interventions undertaken by
the United States of America (USA) and the United Nations (UN). These interventions are thought to
have helped Haiti develop economically and politically, but has this been the case? Despite the many
interventions, or perhaps because of them, Haiti is still the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere
and one of the poorest countries in the world. The country is overwhelmed with corruption, high
unemployment, high crime levels, and miserable economic prospects for its citizens. Looking at the
advantages and disadvantages of the interventions gives us a clearer picture of why Haiti is in such a
dismal state today.
Interventions brought thousands of foreign troops to Haiti, but also brought several benefits. For

Comparison Of Watson And Winslow Homer Portrayed In The...
The works of art, that John Singleton Copley portrayed in Watson and the Shark and Winslow Homer
portrayed in The Fog Warning, strike a sense of mystery and fear into the heart of the viewer. With
The Fog Warning, I wonder if the fisherman will meet his destination at the large vessel before the
looming ominous fog swallows him up. If the fisherman does not arrive at the large vessel within the
given time, he may be lost at sea forever. When I admire Watson and the Shark, I contemplate if the
blood running from the mouth of the shark (where it presumably previously attacked Watson) and also
pouring into the water (where Watson seems to have lost the bottom portion of his leg in an attack)
will be the final blood shared amongst the two. Will the sailors save Watson from the ferociousness of
the mighty beast or will he suffer a terrible fate and perish at sea? While both compositions allow for
mystery and contain a quite eerie sense of doom, the artists portrayed these stories through painting
them in quite opposite directions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Importance Of Birth Control
Louise Slaughter, a New York congresswoman, once wrote, for most women, including women who
want to have children, contraception, is not an option, it is a basic health care necessity . In other
words, Slaughter believes that for many women, no matter their decision on child bearing,
contraceptives are are essential to their health. In short, contraception is just as important as a routine
check up with a primary doctor. Furthermore, birth control serves more than one purpose;
contraception controls if or when women reproduce but is also used to treat medical conditions, such
as, endometriosis, and irregular menstruation. Although, the first birth control clinic was opened in
Brooklyn, New York in 1916 by Margaret Sanger, the fight for reproductive freedom and the complete
legalization of contraception would not end until the 1960s. Merely ten days after opening the clinic,
Sanger and employees were arrested for breaking the Comstock Law. The Comstock Law, which was
passed in 1873, prohibited and restricted advertisements and sales of information, and materials, that
could be used as contraception. Although the odds were against her in the fight for legal birth control,
Sanger reopened the clinic; however, Sanger was arrested a second time and was charged with
maintaining a public nuisance according to the Margaret Sanger Paper Project. Regardless of being
arrested twice before, Sanger reopened the clinic a third time. Consequently, the police forced Sanger

blacks, white, and Asians, but rather, the women and men. In the film, The Great Debaters, its central
claim is equality. The movie is not only a common metaphorical situation all Africans had to face

History of Special Needs Ireland
History of Special Needs Provision In Ireland
Special needs provision in Ireland has evolved since the founding of the state in 1919. Until the early
1990s practically all education and care of children were carried out by the religious orders in Ireland.
The government therefore had little need for policies or legislation surrounding education and care.
Ireland established its education system in 1831 while under English rule. This made it mandatory for
children between the ages of six and fourteen to attend school. The Department of Education was
established in 1924. However, the government did not consider that the education of children with
special needs was necessary as their needs were seen as purely medical. It was considered more ...

However separate schools continued throughout the 70s and 80s.
In 1971 the primary curriculum was introduced. This led to most special schools and classes providing
a modified curriculum for their students. The Department of Education developed Curriculum
Guidelines for Schools for the Moderately Handicapped. One important principle of these guidelines
was that children have needs as children that have to be satisfied at school as well as their needs as
future adults.
The notion of integration began to appear in the mid eighties with the idea that special classes could
be part of mainstream schools and also from parents who were not availing of special education. In a
report on the training and education of severely and profound mentally handicapped children in
Ireland 1983 it was recognized that these children should also be entitled to education. Teachers were
to be trained to educate such children in special classes within mainstream education. By 1993 over
2000 pupils were being educated in such a way.
In 1993 the report of the Special Education Review Committee (SERC) was published. This report
dealt comprehensively with the educational implications of special needs. It provided a definition of
special needs which included those with severe and profound difficulties through to those who were
exceptionally able and included both physical and mental disabilities. It recognized that the desire of
the majority of parents of children with

Cubism Movement In Diego Rivera
Cubism, a short lived, though massively influential visual art movement began in the early 20th
century created by Pablo Picasso and Geroges Barque in Paris. The term cubism was coined around by
its styled and various viewpoints in its one chaotic composition that withheld simplistic geometric
shapes and interlocking planes. The main purpose of cubistic art was to generically simplify nature
and its representation in emphasis of the two dimensionality by reducing and fracturing objects into
geometric forms and then realign these within shallow space. However, the Cubist painters rejected
the inherited concept that art should replicate nature, or adopt traditional techniques of perspective,
modeling, and even foreshortening. There is no doubt that the cubism movement held numerous artist
alike Cezanne, Chagall, Klee and more; however, Rivera found unique sense into Cubism that
provoked contextual messages through murals and canvases while powdering uniqueness within his
work in a different place.
Diego Rivera, one of the most prominent and controversial Mexican artists of the twentieth century,
gained international acclaim as a leader of the Mexican mural movement that sought to bring art to the
masses through large scale work on public walls. Rivera s accessibility to grandiose surfaces let him
tackle the grand themes of the history and future of humanity; concerning himself primarily with the

Respiratory Failure Essay
This form of respiratory distress is commonly seen in premature newborns because their lungs are
immature and do not have enough surfactant to keep the lungs open. It is seen almost immediately
after birth or in the few hours following birth.
Cause
This decrease in surfactant causes the infant work harder to draw air into the lungs, which leads to low
oxygenation to the rest of the body s organs. The more premature the infant, the greater the chance of
developing RDS; other factors include previous baby s with RDS, a mother with diabetes, C section or
early delivery, a fast labor, a multiple fetus pregnancy and/or any problems that would reduce or
disrupt blood flow to the infant through the placenta.

They are also given supplemental warm, humidified oxygen but must be closely watched to avoid
toxicity. The doctor may also chose to use a CPAP machine to force air into the baby s nose, or a
mechanical ventilator if the infant is unable to breathe on its own.
Nursing Intervention
1. Monitor infant VS, note respiration rate, depth, lung sounds.
2. Administer supplemental oxygen as ordered.
3. Keep infant warm because premature infants are unable to regulate body temp
4. Administer IV fluids
5. Assess need for suction to clear mouth, nose, throat of mucus.
6. Monitor arterial blood gas
Nursing Diagnosis
1. Impaired gas exchange related to immature lungs
2. Ineffective breathing pattern
3. Impaired spontaneous ventilation
4. Risk for unstable blood glucose
Long Term RDS worsens from days 2 7 (Neonatal) and if an infant dies from the complication it is
usually during this time period. Other long term problems include bleeding into the lungs or brain,
issues with the development of the lungs, blood clots, mental disability due to lack of oxygen, and
possible blindness or eye

Sadducees And Herodians Essay
Three classes of Jews were considered political and religious leaders during the time of Jesus: the
Sadducees, the Pharisees, and the Herodians. They were often referred as the ruling council at that
time. The Sadducees were aristocrats which were wealthy and held powerful positions and were often
called the liberal scholars of Christ s day . They were the ones who controlled the state locally, spoke
to the state universally, directed relations with the Romans, participated in the Sanhedrin, prepared and
drove the army, and gathered taxes. They did not relate well with the common man, nor did the
common man hold them in high opinion. In comparison to the Sadducees, the Pharisees were mostly

A striking similarity was that they all were against Jesus and His teachings. Those three most
overwhelming, political, and religious gatherings wanted to kill Him. So they all joined efforts to do
everything needed to reach their goal. They place all they trust in what each of them accepted as
reality, insulting the critical fact that the main teachings was from God, through His Son, Jesus Christ.
This work has revealed one customary conviction about these three religious groups their solid lack of
regard for Jesus. Their unbelief drove them to impact God s people to have confidence in their
conviction rather than the truth that lays in Christ alone. Perhaps the best lesson that can be learned
from those three religious gatherings is to believe everything the Bible says, including the miraculous
and the afterlife unlike the Sadducees. One should not treat traditions as having equal authority as
Scripture, and not allow our relationship with God to be reduced to a legalistic list of rules and rituals
unlike the Pharisees. Romans 14:12 says, So then, each one will give an account of himself to God.
The Pharisees, Sadducees, and Herodians drove the all inclusive community of God into ungodly and
religious beliefs. One day they will be judge according to what they did and each individuals will have

Perfection In Dead Poets Society
Did you know, in today s society, everyone suffers. Why? Because of the idea that there is a perfect
way to be a human. The three stories, Dead Poets Society, A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings ,
and Those Who Walk Away from Omelas show how the ideas of perfection create suffering in society.
In Dead Poets Society, Neil, one of the main characters, is stuck between meeting his father s
standards of life, and doing what he wants to do. Neil s father wants him to become a doctor, or a
lawyer, or have a professional career. He basically forces Neil to do this, so Neil doesn t have any
freedom. Because of this, Neil commits suicide. The ideas of perfection are kind of like what Neil s
father does in this story. The ideas cage a person, forcing them to be perfect, even though it is
something they can never do. When someone isn t perfect, and is different than society s standards of

Everyone in the city is happy, and nothing can go wrong in their lives. But one child, who is trapped in
a closet underneath the city is unlike the people above. The child is malnourished, feeble minded, and
in poor shape overall. People from above come down to the closet once in awhile just to look at the
poor child. Some kick and abuse the child, while others reluctantly feed it. After the visit, some of the
people are angry, and confused about why this child has to suffer, and a few leave the city because of
the treatment of the child. The child could symbolize the people who are different than the majority of
society. Because of the difference between the majority and minority, the minority is treated terribly.
Since being different is detrimental to society s ideals of perfection, Society will treat the people who
are different badly. A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings , by Gabriel Marquez, also shows this idea
of how society treats people who a different in a negative

Analysis Of Ben Haggerty s White Privilege II
Ben Haggerty, more familiarly known by his stage name Macklemore, frequently addresses today s
issues in his music. With his Billboard hit Same Love, he strived to make marriage equality more
understandable to the mainstream audiences. In his most recent track, White Privilege II, he talks
about his involvement in the Black Lives Matter movement and the perspectives of others concerning
it. Last summer, shortly after his child s birth, Haggerty released one of the most personal and heartfelt
songs he s created to which he dedicated to his newborn daughter, Sloan. Growing Up is an honest
open letter addressing the fear of becoming a new father, experiential advice for his new child, and the
demanding pressure of his career.
They say boys don t cry / But your dad has shed a lot of tears / They say I should be a strong man /
But baby, I m still filled with fear. Starting with the opening lines in the first verse, Haggerty takes a
stance on gender roles and stereotypes, while also indirectly mentioning his struggles with addiction.

aspects of his life, and trying to find his life s purpose. He also doesn t want his struggles or addictions

Ecological Study Of The Honey Bees And The Flowers
Ecology is the scientific study of the relationships between organisms, the interactions between
organisms and their environment, and the processes involved in the distribution of organisms. Flowers
pollinated by honey bees in the middle of a field can be studied ecologically. For instance: the species
of honey bee inhabiting this field of flowers can be analyzed, the amount of honey bees of this
particular species found on this field can be calculated, and the factors affecting the honey bee
population can be investigated. This form of ecological study is called population ecology as it studies
a single species population in a given area. Studying the interaction between the honey bees and the
flowers, instead, goes to a different category of ecology called community ecology. Community
ecology studies the relationships and interactions between different populations in a given location.
Studying a broader scope like the structure and functions of all the biotic and abiotic factors of the
field, including the honey bees and the flowers, dives into a different category of ecology which is
called ecosystem ecology. This category looks into all the interactions going on in the system and
where the energy is flowing, which is a cycle that always starts from the producers of the system to
the consumers of the system.
Population ecology studies the factors that affect the population size of one species in a certain
geographical area. Four factors affect population

diameter of subject B left eye decreased from 2.0mm to 1.5mm. After 35 minutes, the pupil diameter
of the subject s left eye remained at 1.5mm until 90th minute. As for the right eye of subject B, subject
B was required to take four baseline readings for the 1st 15 minutes before one drop of 0.9% saline

Philosophy of Literacy Instruction
Literacy Defined
Literacy embraces reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Integrating all of these into a literacy
program is key. Teachers must provide endless and ongoing opportunities for their student to read,
write, listen, and speak.
There are many components that make up literacy. In order to effectively teach students these
components the teacher must model the concept for the students. As teachers, we can t expect or
assume that the student already knows what we expect of them. Modeling gives students a basis of
what to go by. Modeling is the first and most important step in order for the students to gain mastery
of a concept. A teacher must also undergo guided practice with the students. A teacher should always

For every area of development that I need to address with a student I will make sure that I have at least
two positives to go along with it. This will not bring a child down.
Another important part of my literacy program will be communication with home. I will send home
newsletters and have school meetings where the parents are invited to attend. I will always keep the
parents/guardians informed on everything we are doing in class. I will send home praise notes rather
than just negative notes on students.
In my classroom I will have a specific outline as to what a literacy lesson will look like. Each lesson
will focus on reading, writing, speaking, and listening. I will have a set behavior management plan
that will be followed at all times. I will always introduce a lesson by activating prior knowledge,
motivating the student, and by stating the objectives. I will always model for the students what it is
that they are expected to do. The students will always undergo guided practice before they set off on
their own to do something. Then when I am sure that the students understand I will have them
independently practice. Once the concept is mastered I will assess each student to be sure that they can
apply what they have learned.
When my students pick up a book they will automatically know what to do. I will teach the students to
always predict before they read. I will have the students look at the title and the picture on the

Applying Criminological Theory to Solve the Murder of...
Applying criminological theory to a suspect s anecdotal evidence can help to distinguish which
suspect could be the possible offender. In this certain case, poor Tigger has been murdered and there
are 3 possible suspects. Merton s Anomie Theory will be applied to suspect number 1: Winnie The
Pooh. Eysenck s Theory will be applied to suspect number 2: Piglet and Social Bond Theory will be
applied to suspect number 3: Eeyore. Merton s Anomie theory works around the theory that a society
or culture inadvertently bring out offending behavior through pressure between the social norms and
the compulsion to achieve them (Thio, 1975). There are 5 aspects of social structure that associate
with this theory (Merton, 1938). Conformity, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Psychoticism relates to certain personality traits such as being impulsive, hostile and aggressive
(Eysenck, 1992). This theory is relatively consistent with the anecdotal evidence about Piglet, but has
more evidence that suggests that Piglet was not the murderer. The anecdotal evidence states that Piglet
has a Generalized Anxiety disorder which ties in with Neuroticism (Cattell and Scheier 1961).
Eysenck and Gudjonsson (1989) had found offenders tend to score high on both Psychoticism and
Neuroticism, (Lykken, 1990) which Piglet does not. He is often described as a generous animal, which
does not tie in with the aggressive, non empathetic, and anti social nature of Psychoticism (Woody and
Claridge 1977). Hirschi s Social Bond Theory is a theory that instead of being based on why people in
society commit offences, it is based on why people in society do not commit offences (Hirschi, 2002).
Hirschi (2002) identifies 4 main social bonds that can be used to determine the individual s likelihood
to become involved in deviant crimes. These 4 social bonds are attachment, commitment, involvement
and belief (Roland 1971). Altogether these social bonds are what make up the average mindset and
behavior of a non criminal (Gundy Yoder, 2007). So if a person was not to have a strong presence of
these bonds, it would then indicate deviant or offending behavior, and this is the case of Eeyore. The
first of these 4 social

Essay on Dracula and the Modern Vampire
His skin is pale, with slicked back hair, lips blood red, and his pearly white teeth sharp; he s Dracula,
the original vampire. Bram Stoker s famous novel Dracula, which was written in 1897, started the
vampire craze that still lasts today. It has sparked numerous novels, movies, and songs across the
world through the year, and its popularity is still growing. As times have changed, so have Dracula
and his predecessors. Dracula is about Count Dracula meeting this human Jonathan Harker for
business and Jonathan along with his friends learn that Count Dracula is a vampire. In the end Count
Dracula is killed before he can reach the safety of Transylvania. Bram Stoker s novel Dracula is the
pinnacle of all modern concepts of vampires; however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But there was no reflection of him in the mirror...I saw the cut had bled...When the Count saw my
face, his eyes blazed with a sort of demoniac fury, and he suddenly made a grab at my throat...his hand
touched the string of beads which held the crucifix...the fury passed. (Stoker 21) Though all vampires
have originated from Dracula; they have become more involved, complex, and overall superior
because of their abilities. There have been major changes to the vampire character, but nothing too
radical all at once like completely changing the vampire characteristics so much that it does not
resemble Dracula. Instead, the change has been gradual, to suit people s demands (Deggans). True
Blood, Twilight, and The Vampire Diaries are all examples of modern concepts of Dracula. Though
they are all vampire stories, the vampires no longer play by the same rules as Count Dracula. Some
can walk in daylight with the help of magic, some can control minds, but none can shape shift
(Jackson; Deggans). They appear in mirrors, unlike Count Dracula and their eyes change color in most
modern vampire novels instead of staying red. Just as Count Dracula they all drink blood staying to
the true vampire characteristic. These modern vampires are superior because of their greater abilities
compared to their ancestor Dracula. Modern writers have gotten inspiration from Dracula, but they
have also had other writers to use, and

Being A Loyalist Essay
As proved today, we should clearly stay under Britain s rule. Let s not forget that being a loyalist was
very risky and unsafe. Whenever someone was a loyalist they were put into danger because patriots
were known to overreact. For example, when Thomas Hutchinson revealed he was a loyalist, patriots
burnt down his house instead of being civilized. Also, you could be imprisoned by the patriots just for
being a loyalist. The patriots felt that being a loyalist was wrong and would imprison you just for
having that opinion. Along with being imprisoned, you had to pay a huge amount of money to get out.
This goes to show that many people were afraid to be loyalists because of the consequences and how
violent the patriots were. This also shows that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They protested for taxation without representation simply because they didn t want to pay taxes, and
the protests weren t peaceful. One example of their violence is the Boston Tea Party and The Boston
Massacre. The Boston Massacre wasn t even a massacre despite the name. This was when some
patriots started throwing snowballs at soldiers and the soldiers had to defend themselves from the
patriots, so the patriots were shot. The Boston Tea Party was when a very small tax was placed on tea
and the patriots weren t happy about that. So instead of paying the very small tax, they went onto the
tea ships and dumped the tea into the ocean. The taxes would overall help us in the end, because they
also helped with protection and a better military. For their protests on Taxation without representation
, they were protesting something that wasn t completely true. Actually, it was false because there was
representation. Each colony had someone that could go to Parliament and speak on the colony s
behalf. As for the taxes, they were placed on all of Britain, not just the colonies, yet the patriots were
not satisfied and decided not to pay the taxes even though they were cheaper than what Britain had to
pay. May I remind you that the taxes were being placed because of the land we have. The patriots
want to go to war again which would not only result in an estimated

Roman Senate Structure
Structure of the Senate In this simulation, each delegate will represent a leading figure in the Roman
Senate. The rules of the senate will still apply for the most part. A more complete list of the rules and
procedures of the senate may be found later on in this package. Due to lack of records, many senators
are represented with fictitious names. However, what is more important is the profile of the individual.
Within the senate existed two significant factions: the populists and the conservatives. The populists
believed in the people s rights and attempted to serve the public first and foremost, often

Female Characters In And Then There Were None
Women. They are a complete mystery, said the revolutionary physicist Stephen Hawking. In the novel
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, it is apparent that the female characters are portrayed
in a manner that is both derogatory and stereotypical. Whether the incidents include a fellow character
or the author directly using offensive insults, portrayals of hysteria or weakness compared to the
males, or downright treating the female protagonists like objects or things, they are sometimes cruel
and unnecessary. Throughout And Then There Were None, the female characters are described through
hurtful stereotypes, objectification, and psychotic behaviors that may not be appropriate for
impressionable young minds to be reading about, despite others suggesting otherwise. One of the
largest problems with And Then There Were None is the use of offensive and hurtful stereotypes while
referring to the women in the novel, as well as indirectly stating that all women should be
homemakers who cook and clean. With a pioneering female writer such as Agatha Christie, you would
not necessarily expect such blaring misogyny, but it remains all the same. On a broader note, the three
main female characters are each stereotypes of the crazy woman one following under her husband
even for cruelty, one being bible crazy, and one being so in love she is willing to literally kill anyone
who stands in her way. More specifically, when William Blore is analyzing the death of Mrs. Rogers,

How Glaciers Can Alter The Shape Of A Valley
1. Explain how glaciers can alter the shape of a valley in terms of how the valley looks before and
after the effects of the glacier.
Many locations around the world in places where its snows throughout the year temperature stays cold
and frosty. This will cause snow not to melt but sometimes creates a firn. When the snow gets
suppressed deeper in the snowpack it can turn in to a glacier ice. Glacier is massive, long lasting,
moving mass of ice compacted snow and ice (Thompson, 2007). These gigantic moving mass can only
be made on land where the quantity of snow is more abundant than the snow that had previously
melted in the summer. Glaciers are influenced by geologic forces, temperature changes, and snowfall
(RioLearn, 2016). There are two types of glaciers the first type is an alpine glacier and the ... Show

For example the Colorado Plateau which covers a large area of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and
Utah. This region consist of sediments that have mounted up to form what are now sedimentary rocks.
Deeply formed rocks were uplifted, eroded, and exposed for eons. By 600 million years ago North
America had been beveled off to a remarkably smooth surface. It is on this crystalline rock surface
that the younger, more familiar layered rocks of the Colorado Plateau were deposited (Geologic,
2014). Death Valley is part of a percentage of the Great Basin, desert streams to some extent erode the
surrounding mountains and deposited. When faulting does not end it makes the valley deeper but at
the same moment streams can fill them with sediment. Another process is when tectonic forces create
mountains. Prevailing winds, warm moist air rises, rising air generates low pressure, which leads to
precipitation and dry air descends, creating high pressure zone creates a rain shadow desert.

Uptown Brewery is to be upheld by several state regulations. To qualify as a brewery, you must
complete and submit to TTB (Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau) the appropriate forms along with any
other required documentation. TTB will then complete the screening and processing within two
months of receipt of a completed Brewers Notice packet. If Uptown Brewery was to engage in
business of importing alcoholic beverages overseas, they must apply to the Federal Alcohol

It is important for Breweries to develop employee policies and procedures that communicate
appropriate expectations to the employees. In the state of North Carolina, breweries must follow the
Wisconsin Fair Employment Act, The Americans Disabilities Act, Age Discrimination in Employment
Act, and Family and Medical Leave Act. Claiming the right insurance is a risk that our brewery must
face. Failing to remit correct taxes to correct agencies at the right times could turn into fines or audits.
According to Chris Crowell from Craft Brewing Business, OSHA is becoming more aggressive in
setting and enforcing new safety and health requirements. And not to say that you, craft brewer, are

Reflection Paper On Understanding My Life
Understanding My Life
We all have a life full of stories with good and bad moments, many of which we are proud of and
others we wish we could erase. Something we all have the potential to do but not everyone can is not
let mistakes or obstacles break us. We have obstacles since the moment we take our first breath but we
also have the ability to defeat them. The turning point in my life was recovering after my anxiety
attacks had taken the best of me.
Ever since I was born I ve had heart problems but, they were able to be maintained under control.
Unfortunately two years ago I was told my heart murmur was becoming a problem but with the
correct medication, everything would be okay. I tried to pretend nothing was wrong and I wanted to
continue following my regular schedule but I ended up overworking myself. Even though after
following up with my cardiologist and being told I was okay I didn t feel right.
There were times when I would try to breathe but no matter how hard I tried it felt like I was standing
in a room with no oxygen. My chest pain reached a point to where I was feeling as if I had been
stabbed. There was nothing I could do but cry. I went to the doctor but there was nothing wrong, my
heart problems were under control but my body made it seem like they weren t.
A major factor for my anxiety was the pressure I felt from the judgment of other people. Growing up I
didn t exactly have the best experience with other kids. I would get judged because of my weight all

On Pale Green Walls
On Pale Green Walls
Growing up in a safe home with sweet and supportive parents is vital for your life as an adult.
On Pale Green Walls is a short store written by Clare Wigfall and it explores some important aspects
of growing up. It explores the curiosity of a child and the relationship between adult and child. For
example the importance of a good relationship between your parents, and the misunderstandings and
disappointments if you do not. The main character in this short story, Violet, is forced to realise this at
a very early age.
The story starts in media res, at Christmas day. It is about a mute girl called Violet who lives in a very
religious home with her parents. She begins to see Virgin Mary everywhere and gets jealous at ...

I think the main theme in this story is the relationship between kids and their parents. The embryo
Violet finds can be compared to her own relationship with her mother. Violet wants to take care of it,
like she wants her mother to take care of her. Violet is an innocent child, and does not know what she
is doing are wrong. First time she sees Virgin Mary, she is lighten up by candles, which symbolizes
hope. Next time she goes to the church, there is no candles lit, which could symbolize that the hope is
gone. Instead, she sees a faded painting on the pale green wall. The painting shows black tribesmen,
and the white people. Violet feels like the tribesmen, as if she does not fit in and look like the white.
Also at the end were Violet eats the piece of newspaper, the painting smashes to the ground. It
symbolizes that she cannot be converted the same way as the tribesmen could.
Understanding parents is very important for your childhood. We have sympathy for Violet, because we
can see, that s she is being misunderstood. There is a big difference between being a child and a grown
up. You see the world from two different perspectives. They need to test their limits and find out what
is right and wrong. Her parents seems to be pretty clueless about that period in her

  • 2. Joseph O Loughlin Joseph O Loughlin is the central character in the Joseph O Loughlin series of novels authored by popular Australian author Michael Robotham. The first novel that featured the O Loughlin character was the 2004 title Suspect . The novels in the series are best classified as detective crime mysteries. The best description of Joseph O Loughlin is that of a family man, a kindhearted psychologist with a dry sense of humor and a magnificent sense of humanity. He works alongside his best friend the former detective and hard drinking Vincent Ruiz whose personality could not be any more different. Nonetheless, the two characters have great chemistry and complement each other in their work. The series of novels is set in London and introduces the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Four Unifying Principles UNIFYING PRINCIPLES OF ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR AND MANAGEMENT ABSTRACT Theories and models of organizational behavior and management continue to increase in number and complexity. While much of the recent research has not made its way into standard business textbooks, these textbooks nonetheless offer a broad array of topics and concepts that can easily overwhelm both student and practitioner. No common thread appears to link these disparate topics, despite the fact that variations on the same theory often can be found across topics. This paper describes four underlying principles of organizational behavior and management that distill and synthesize essential features of many of the established theories and models. Each principle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The concepts related to each principle can be viewed, alternatively, as dichotomous (a choice among opposites), continuous (a point along a continuum), or paradoxical (a contradiction or dialectic to be resolved), and applied in combination to interpret and circumscribe specific theories. Finally, the implications of these underlying principles for teaching management and organizational behavior as well as for conducting organizational and case analyses are discussed. THE UNIFYING PRINCIPLES There are four unifying principles presented in this paper, each principle represented by two contrasting concepts. The principles are briefly described below, and the application of each principle to organizational behavior and management is illustrated through several examples. The intent of these examples is to demonstrate the range of applications for each principle, rather than to provide an exhaustive analysis. (A more complete set of applications is available from the author.) INDIVIDUAL VS. COLLECTIVE Description of the Principle Perhaps no concepts are more central to our understanding of organizations and management than those of the individual versus the collective. In a generic sense, the term individual means singular, solitary, one, alone, separate, while the term collective means many, multiple, together, gathered, joint. In human terms, these two words represent the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Cunningic Character Traits Of Odysseus I think the one heroic character trait that fits Odysseus best is cunning . There are many stories from The Wanderings that shows just how cunning Odysseus is; from tricking monsters like the cyclops, to pretending to be a beggar so he could reclaim his kingdom. Some of these stories may not sound like much but without Odysseus s cunning trait things would have ended up completely different. If Odysseus didn t have his cunning trait he wouldn t have been able to trick the suitors into thinking he was a beggar, but because Odysseus is such a cunning hero he is able to have much more power than others. One great example to show just how cunning Odysseus is, is the story about the cyclops, who had planned to eat Odysseus and his shipmates. One of the ideas that Odysseus had to get rid of the cyclops was to have him drink so much wine that he wouldn t be able to focus and so he could be knocked out. Tricking the cyclops gave Odysseus and his shipmates another chance to get away from the cyclops. A piece of evidence from the cyclops story that shows Odysseus s cunning trait is a quote from the story, it says My moment was at hand, and I went forward holding an ivy bowl of my dark drink, this quote shows Odysseus s idea of giving the cyclops the wine so he would be knocked out and so Odysseus could have a better chance at killing him and getting away. Another very interesting story that showed Odysseus s cunning trait is the story of The Cattle of the Sun God. Odysseus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Music That Transformed a Hidden Classic into Modern Culture Le Fantôme de l Opéra, a fictional novel published in 1911, by Gaston Leroux, puts the reader right in the catacombs of the Paris Opera House in the late 1800s (Cox: Oxford Reference). An adventure, involving tragic love and gothic elements, surrounds a detective s search to reveal the mystery of the Phantom of the Opera . The detective acts as the narrator who reflects on his investigations of the Paris Opera House through allusions and the tragedies that occur throughout the novel s entirety. Leroux especially highlights the Phantom s undying love for a woman named Christine Daae and displaying the most primitive feeling towards another. The novel itself has inspired ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She argues that adaptations are a continuous development of culture and that with adaptations, we seem to desire the repetition as much as the change ; however, she argues that a work is transformed (Hutcheon 9). Her valuable points about the rationale of adaptation work is the underlying argument in the continuation of making original works more valuable and in The Phantom of the Opera, music does just that. When the musical was adapted from the novel, it heavily maintained the idea that music was the central theme within the novel s allusions and metaphors. Music is an emotionally charged realm and can evoke the most powerful of emotions if done well. The original text of the novel is merely highlighted with the use of the composed soundtrack by Webber. Webber s adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera is one of the most ideal examples of this phenomenal skill of leaving an original story completely rendered into a product seeping with art. It is important to note when referencing adaptations that the first definition that appears when one looks up adaptation into the Oxford Reference dictionary are a variety of definitions that range from just about everything from an adaptation of a book to an adaptation of a recipe. This being noted, one can assume that an adaptation is any sort of adjustment to an original piece of work. • 7. Analysis Of Out Of The Attic By Briann G. Greenfield Likewise, many historians consider the importance of studying the Colonial Revival from a material culture lens. Alan Axelrod articulates, Objects play a central role in the processes of the Colonial Revival. Similarly, Briann G. Greenfield s Out of the Attic: Inventing Antiques in Twentieth Century New England, suggests an extension of this idea of the centrality of objects. It is, in effect, a celebration of material culture as it relates to a larger historical context. Greenfield effectively describes the evolution of historical and aesthetic use of antiques from the 1900 s onward. Acts of collecting, selling, and displaying the antiques are points of interest in her collection of essays. She notes t antiques as a means to define ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chapter three presents Jessie Barker Gardner and George Gardner as twentieth century antique collectors based in Providence New England. The couple were small time, middle class antique collectors. They were interested in the philanthropic area of collecting. The Gardner s sought to make a connection between the collegiate space and the museum. Eventually, the Gardner s donated many of their most prized collectables to Brown University. They implemented very crafty and effective sales techniques. Their goal was to subvert the market and capture the antiques at bargain prices. Though Jessie and George Gardner relished the pursuit of collecting and philanthropy, it was almost always about the profitability. This discussion offers a connection to Thomas Denenberg s use of Wallace Nutting. Like Nutting, the Gardner s excelled in a plethora of marketing techniques and entrepreneurship. She further links the importance of consumer culture that Denenberg alludes too. Chapter four is devoted Henry Flynt and his efforts in historic preservation and antiques in Deerfield, Massachusetts. Conversely, under his direction, Deerfield, Massachusetts became a natural preservation. This chapter further mentions companies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Essay on The Leisure Class Felicia Henry Nailon Veblen, Thorstein. (1899). The Theory of The Leisure Class. New York: The Macmillan Company. Authors Purpose Thorstein Veblen initiated a new approach to economic theory that took account of evolving social and institutional contexts and considered their human implications. In his examination of the leisure class, he looks at non economic features of their social life. In this economic analysis he probes the beginning of time and travels down through history to discover the origin of the leisure class. Specific Areas to Be Covered Veblen examines the demand and consumption of the upper classes of society in terms that are not traditionally used in economics. In using terms such as conspicuous consumption, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The standards are determined by conspicuous waste and workmanship. These and the predatory animus shape the standard of life. (Veblen: 105) The wider the distance between the classes and the slower the degree of class mobility, the slower the process of change. The standards are determined by conspicuous waste and workmanship. Conspicuous Consumption Veblen notes that the common element of conspicuous leisure and conspicuous consumption is waste. Conspicuous leisure represents a waste of time and effort, whereas conspicuous consumption represents a waste of goods. Both are methods of demonstrating the possession of wealth and the two are usually accepted as the same. There are at least two conceptions of conspicuous consumption in the The Theory of the Leisure Class, these are: (1) Conspicuous consumption characterized by particular end results or as a function. (2) Conspicuous consumption as intention, motive, or instinct. Thorsten Veblen s conspicuous consumption stems from the division of wealth that was infinitely more obvious a hundred years ago when the divide between the haves and have nots was easier to establish though the divide is in actuality even wider today. Thorsten Veblen s conspicuous consumption grew from pecuniary emulation. In order to gain and to hold the esteem of people it is not sufficient merely to possess wealth or power. The wealth most be evident because esteem is only awarded on evidence.

  • 10. Weinstein Feminist Theory Men are considered to be the dominant gender in basically every industry. This heavily applies to the Hollywood film industry, where most films are directed, produced and/or written by men. With this, it s no doubt that these men have a sense of power over everything, since they are in charge. Unfortunately, some men take this power a little too far. Over the years, various male celebrities have been accused of sexual abuse and harassment towards their female co stars, assistants etc. The most recent example of this is the various allegations against one of the biggest film producer in Hollywood, Harvey Weinstein. Since the allegations have come out, a bunch of female celebrities have lent their support towards the victims of Weinstein and some even shared their own experiences with the disgraced producer. However, not many male celebrities have come out to condemn Weinstein s actions. In fact, The Guardian, a British news agency released an article stating that they asked over 20 male celebrities who worked closely with the producer, and none of them returned their calls at the time (Wong and Levin,2017). To explain the event and why Weinstein and these male celebrities acted the way they did in this situation, I decided to use the classical theory Conflict Theory and the contemporary theory Feminist Theory. After looking at both theories, I have decided that Conflict Theory is the best way to explain this situation due to the power status Weinstein and the men have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Personalities are interlinked majorly with consumers since without the other; the other would cease to exist. This is evident as celebrities livelihood relies completely upon the consumer culture of citizens, which is what makes them famous, and gives them that celebrity role. Whilst this is apparent, the links involve As stated by Graeme Turner in Understanding Celebrity, the contemporary celebrity will usually have emerged from the sports or entertainment industries; they will be highly visible through the media; and their private lives will attract greater public interest than their professional lives which is quite an accurate statement. A majority of the public believes that celebrities exist for the publics sake and combined with the statement without us they are nobody it sort of correlates. But when you think about the fact that these are people too with feelings, families and private lives, not so much. The introduction of social media allowing everyday people to intrude on celebrities lives also breaks the barrier marginally. This allows for another level of interaction for personalities to reach out to the public and therefore can have massive impacts on their stardom. The function of celebrity is to be the super human . Most states allow people to receive a license at the age of sixteen. The driving test teens have to take to receive their license is different in every state. Some states are harder on their drivers than other states are. Teen drivers have a history of being unsafe drivers, but precautions have been made to limit wrecks that involve them. The graduated license is a prime example of this. This system is a licensing process used in thirty seven different states. They all follow the same basic plan though. The first step is not being able to drive without a licensed driver in the vehicle. Then, they can drive alone, but on a limited time and a limited number of passengers in the car. Finally, the final stage is a completely unrestricted license. But, there is a downside to that system. Many teens feel as if that system penalizes all teens including the ones that drive safely. However, despite these claims, states have found that graduated licensing has, indeed, reduced the number of teen accidents. (Teen Drivers par 7). There are many other actions to increase driving safety. Such as taking a driver s education course. Or maybe even limiting the number of passengers allowed in your car. • 15. Strengths And Weaknesses Of Swot Strengths One of CanGo s major strengths is that roughly 80 percent of their sales come from Just In Time (JIT) inventory ( Financial Information, n.d.). Having such a high percentage of their sales coming from JIT inventory allows CanGo to keep their overhead expenses low while still ensuring their products are still available. One of the ways that this lowers their overhead is by reducing the warehouse space needed. Since most of the inventory arrives just in time to be shipped, there is no need to have a place to store it. Keeping their JIT inventory at roughly 80 percent also helps CanGo to serve their customers faster and more efficiently by giving them more control over the manufacturing process. This control makes it easier to quickly respond to any changes in the customer s needs (Conrad, n.d.). Another one of their strengths is that they have positive sales for all their divisions. The assumptions statement on their financial statement says that their online book sales division is their only profitable division. However, their financial statements show that their MP3/CD/DVD division had a 233.3 percent increase from to 2008 to 2009 with an additional 8 million dollars in inventory left over, while the Books division only had a 114.3 percent increase over the same time frame. Because of this, if a parent is trying to be their child s friend, there may not be a positive outcome for the parent or the child. Being a child s friend puts you emotionally on the same level with them; however, during middle childhood a child benefits from knowing that there is an adult who loves them, that can handle the tough times and decisions in life, can give them instruction, and can set clear rules (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], ... The possible improvement would be that if I tried researching more using the non internet sources by talking with the technology experts etc. There were many dates that I had come across during the research of the pull out section. In order to check that if the dates were correct I looked into many different search engines which showed that the dated that I obtained were accurate. Romans 14:12 says, So then, each one will give an account of himself to God. The Pharisees, Sadducees, and Herodians drove the all inclusive community of God into ungodly and religious beliefs. One day they will be judge according to what they did and each individuals will have to give an account of himself to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Perfection In Dead Poets Society Did you know, in today s society, everyone suffers. Why? Because of the idea that there is a perfect way to be a human. The three stories, Dead Poets Society, A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings , and Those Who Walk Away from Omelas show how the ideas of perfection create suffering in society. In Dead Poets Society, Neil, one of the main characters, is stuck between meeting his father s standards of life, and doing what he wants to do. Neil s father wants him to become a doctor, or a lawyer, or have a professional career. He basically forces Neil to do this, so Neil doesn t have any freedom. Because of this, Neil commits suicide. The ideas of perfection are kind of like what Neil s father does in this story. The ideas cage a person, forcing them to be perfect, even though it is something they can never do. When someone isn t perfect, and is different than society s standards of a human, terrible things can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The child is malnourished, feeble minded, and in poor shape overall. People from above come down to the closet once in awhile just to look at the poor child. Some kick and abuse the child, while others reluctantly feed it. After the visit, some of the people are angry, and confused about why this child has to suffer, and a few leave the city because of the treatment of the child. The child could symbolize the people who are different than the majority of society. Because of the difference between the majority and minority, the minority is treated terribly. Since being different is detrimental to society s ideals of perfection, Society will treat the people who are different badly. With his Billboard hit Same Love, he strived to make marriage equality more understandable to the mainstream audiences. In his most recent track, White Privilege II, he talks about his involvement in the Black Lives Matter movement and the perspectives of others concerning it. Last summer, shortly after his child s birth, Haggerty released one of the most personal and heartfelt songs he s created to which he dedicated to his newborn daughter, Sloan. Growing Up is an honest open letter addressing the fear of becoming a new father, experiential advice for his new child, and the demanding pressure of his career. They say boys don t cry / But your dad has shed a lot of tears / They say I should be a strong man / But baby, I m still filled with fear. Starting with the opening lines in the first verse, Haggerty takes a stance on gender roles and stereotypes, while also indirectly mentioning his struggles with addiction. He isn t afraid of what other people are going to think about him, and he is going to raise his daughter to believe in that same idea. Sometimes I don t know who I am / Sometimes I question why I m here / I just wanna be a good dad / Will I be? I have no idea. • 40. Ecological Study Of The Honey Bees And The Flowers Ecology is the scientific study of the relationships between organisms, the interactions between organisms and their environment, and the processes involved in the distribution of organisms. Flowers pollinated by honey bees in the middle of a field can be studied ecologically. For instance: the species of honey bee inhabiting this field of flowers can be analyzed, the amount of honey bees of this particular species found on this field can be calculated, and the factors affecting the honey bee population can be investigated. This form of ecological study is called population ecology as it studies a single species population in a given area. Studying the interaction between the honey bees and the flowers, instead, goes to a different category of ecology called community ecology. Community ecology studies the relationships and interactions between different populations in a given location. Studying a broader scope like the structure and functions of all the biotic and abiotic factors of the field, including the honey bees and the flowers, dives into a different category of ecology which is called ecosystem ecology. This category looks into all the interactions going on in the system and where the energy is flowing, which is a cycle that always starts from the producers of the system to the consumers of the system. Population ecology studies the factors that affect the population size of one species in a certain geographical area. Four factors affect population ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this certain case, poor Tigger has been murdered and there are 3 possible suspects. Merton s Anomie Theory will be applied to suspect number 1: Winnie The Pooh. Eysenck s Theory will be applied to suspect number 2: Piglet and Social Bond Theory will be applied to suspect number 3: Eeyore. Merton s Anomie theory works around the theory that a society or culture inadvertently bring out offending behavior through pressure between the social norms and the compulsion to achieve them (Thio, 1975). There are 5 aspects of social structure that associate with this theory (Merton, 1938). Conformity, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Psychoticism relates to certain personality traits such as being impulsive, hostile and aggressive (Eysenck, 1992). This theory is relatively consistent with the anecdotal evidence about Piglet, but has more evidence that suggests that Piglet was not the murderer. The anecdotal evidence states that Piglet has a Generalized Anxiety disorder which ties in with Neuroticism (Cattell and Scheier 1961). Eysenck and Gudjonsson (1989) had found offenders tend to score high on both Psychoticism and Neuroticism, (Lykken, 1990) which Piglet does not. He is often described as a generous animal, which does not tie in with the aggressive, non empathetic, and anti social nature of Psychoticism (Woody and Claridge 1977). Hirschi s Social Bond Theory is a theory that instead of being based on why people in society commit offences, it is based on why people in society do not commit offences (Hirschi, 2002). Hirschi (2002) identifies 4 main social bonds that can be used to determine the individual s likelihood to become involved in deviant crimes. These 4 social bonds are attachment, commitment, involvement and belief (Roland 1971). Altogether these social bonds are what make up the average mindset and behavior of a non criminal (Gundy Yoder, 2007). Whenever someone was a loyalist they were put into danger because patriots were known to overreact. The patriots felt that being a loyalist was wrong and would imprison you just for having that opinion. Along with being imprisoned, you had to pay a huge amount of money to get out. • 47. Female Characters In And Then There Were None Women. They are a complete mystery, said the revolutionary physicist Stephen Hawking. In the novel And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, it is apparent that the female characters are portrayed in a manner that is both derogatory and stereotypical. Whether the incidents include a fellow character or the author directly using offensive insults, portrayals of hysteria or weakness compared to the males, or downright treating the female protagonists like objects or things, they are sometimes cruel and unnecessary. Throughout And Then There Were None, the female characters are described through hurtful stereotypes, objectification, and psychotic behaviors that may not be appropriate for impressionable young minds to be reading about, despite others suggesting otherwise. One of the largest problems with And Then There Were None is the use of offensive and hurtful stereotypes while referring to the women in the novel, as well as indirectly stating that all women should be homemakers who cook and clean. With a pioneering female writer such as Agatha Christie, you would not necessarily expect such blaring misogyny, but it remains all the same. On a broader note, the three main female characters are each stereotypes of the crazy woman one following under her husband even for cruelty, one being bible crazy, and one being so in love she is willing to literally kill anyone who stands in her way. When the snow gets suppressed deeper in the snowpack it can turn in to a glacier ice. Glacier is massive, long lasting, moving mass of ice compacted snow and ice (Thompson, 2007).
