Essay On Black Loyalists
Who were African American Loyalists?
Black loyalists were African Americans who helped fight for Britain during the revolutionary war in
return for their promise of freedom after the war was over. There were two declarations authorized by
Britain encouraging African American slaves to escape from slavery, leave their masters, and come
over to Britain to fight. There were over 100,000 slaves that escaped from slavery in order for their
chance to gain freedom.
African American Loyalists Groups
There were two main groups of African Americans that fought the loyalist side: the black brigade and
the black pioneers. There were also other, smaller groups that black loyalists served in. These included

The free blacks among all of these white loyalists made their own town know as Birchtown. This
became the largest free black settlement in North America.
Colonel Tye
There were many African American people that worked hard during the war, and became well known
because of this. One person was Colonel Tye. He grew up as a slave but later escaped. He then went
on to lead the Black Brigade. Tye was one of the most feared loyalist in New Jersey. As he was
fighting, he was able to gain revenge against old Patriot friends and masters. The first battle he fought
in was the Battle of Monmouth. During this battle, he freed slaves, captured prisoners, and took
supplies. The cause of his death later on was a wound he got during battle.
Thomas Peters
Thomas Peters was born in West Africa. When he was around 25, he was captured and brought to the
colonies where he became a slave. One day he escaped from slavery and went to New York. Here he
became a member of the Black Pioneers. After a long time of working for the Black Pioneers, people

Black Madonna Of Czestochowa Research Paper
On July 23rd, 2016 my mother and I took a trip to Doylestown, Pa to visit the National Shrine of Our
Lady of Czetochowa. When we arrived at the shrine we were in awe at how much ground there was to
the shrine and how beautiful the shrine was. Each year millions of people visit the shrine from
countries all around the world. It s amazing how this polish shrine attracts so many people of faith
from all over. In 1951 a priest in the Pauline Order from Poland named Father Michael M. Zambrzuski
came to America. He was missionary traveling at many Polish parishes in Canada and the United
States. However, during this time he saw a need for something that would be faith enriching and

As you walk up the grand staircase of the Shrine s Main Church, you come to the tallest and heaviest
doors you may have ever seen. As you step inside you enter a now serene and quiet holy place. Once
you open the second set of doors you enter a huge chapel with a magnificent altar. Above that altar
you see a copy of the Our Lady of Czestochowa painting that was blessed by Pope John XXIII on
February 10th,1962. Also, as you travel to below the shrine church you ll find another copy of the
Black Madonna. However, this time it is signed and blessed by Pope John Paul II on August 2,1980.
In addition, there are 4 other chapels in the lower level of the shrine church including, Chapel of Mary
of Nazareth, Chapel of Divine Mercy, Chapel of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and Chapel of St.Paul, First
Hermit. Behind the Main Church you can find the serene St. Anne s Chapel. Outside, you can find the
Rosary Garden and the cemetery. In the cemetery there is a 45 foot cross that is tribute to the victims
of 9/11. For those who seek a even more spiritual enriched experience there is the Ava Maria Retreat
House. Also, there is a visitor center that includes a cafeteria, exhibition hall, religious articles center,
meeting room ,chapel , shrine offices, and a gift shop. At the gift shop you can find anything from
religious medals to polish candies.

Communication And Interviewing Skills Are Important For...
University Preparation According to Akers and Yahr (2005, p. 1), communication and interviewing
skills are important for entry level accountants. Accountants must gather data, interview employees of
the client s organization, and interact with members of the audit team. Universities, for the most part,
are preparing students to interact and work collaboratively within group settings. Many courses assign
projects which require students to work together culling information for the given topic, write reports
outlining their findings, and then present the results or information to their respective class. These are

interviewing in their courses. MSUD s Fraud Awareness (ACCM 5600) course offers an overview of

Additionally, in Sheri Betzer s Legal Elements of Fraud (ACCM 5650) course at MSUD, not only is
class time dedicated to the introduction of interviewing, but the course has a practical exercise for the
students. The practical exercise includes conducting four separate interviews of individuals related to
an accounting litigation scenario. Over the course of those interviews, not all the individuals contacted

Aspect Perception And Aspect Dawning
Aspect Perception and Aspect Dawning: A Normative Reading of Wittgenstein By chiefly drawing on
part II of Ludwig Wittgenstein s Philosophical Investigations (PI), I will advance the claim that his
concepts of aspect perception and aspect dawning have ethical implications. These ethical
implications are minimally worth considering, or maximally something that holds value. This paper is
divided into three sections. Section one begins by defining aspect perception and aspect dawning, and
then proceeds to distinguish ordinary perceptions of seeing from visual perceptions of seeing as .
Section two starts by citing relevant passages where Wittgenstein alludes to possible examples of
aspect perception and aspect dawning. By building on these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As he states, [one can see it as] a glass cube, there an upturned open box, there a wire frame of that
shape, the three boards forming a solid angle [...] we can also see the illustration now as one thing,
now as another. So we interpret it, and see it as we interpret it (PI II). (3) In §118, Wittgenstein alludes
to a diagram (derived from Jastrow, depicted below) of what one may ordinarily interpret as a duck or
a rabbit. This section demonstrates that one may see an ambiguous picture in one way (e.g., seeing the
duck), and then the aspect dawns on them that the picture could be otherwise (e.g., it could be a
rabbit). (PI II, §118). (4) In §141, Wittgenstein continues the discourse on aspects dawning (or aspects
lighting up ) by pointing to an example in which one suddenly recognizes a familiar aspect of an
object by placing the object in an unusual position or lighting (PI II). §143 similarly discusses the
dawning of an aspect, when one comes to notice an old acquaintance they had not seen in years
because they come to recognize the former face in the altered one

Reflection Paper On Leadership
Leadership Paper
What defines leadership? There are a number of definitions of the meaning of leadership including but
not limited to the theories of leadership and how leadership should work. In my opinion, every
individual has different ways of confronting situations and there is not one leadership style or theory
that will be flawless for any given situation. However, to be a successful educational leader, it is
crucial to understand and be familiar with the various theories and styles of leadership as well as our
personal tendencies to nurture a personal leadership style. Despite the method used to confront a
situation, it s the outcome of success that will determine which leadership style or theory should be
used. The following ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Driverless Car Ethical Dilemmas
Autonomous vehicles are on the verge of drastically changing transportation. They potentially can
save millions of dollars in damages and fuel efficiency as well as countless lives. However, the
development of driverless cars pose serious ethical problems for software engineers. For instance, the
millions of people who earn their living driving trucks or cabs would lose their jobs as they get
replaced by computer programs. Another issue is transparency because the driving software needs to
be very high quality to increase safety. Company designers and researchers tend to work secretly, so
others can t steal their progress but this close mindedness closes off extra ideas and criticism. Finally,
the need for safe code delves into morality. An autonomous car will have to make life and death ...

Companies work very hard to keep their code from the public to protect their ideas but this also
protects any accidental or faulty code from the public. For example, Volkswagen designed its vehicles
to produce lower emissions when being tested, but during regular driving, vehicles produced more
emissions. This was discovered when people measured the emissions from the tail pipe without
hooking it up to a computer. This kind of conspiracy would never have worked if companies had to
disclose their data. Another benefit could be greater detection of bugs. The runaway cars of Toyota
may have been caused by erroneous code, and widespread access to it may have helped identify the
error if there was one. Of course companies shouldn t fully disclose their information, but their
engineers and researchers should strive for greater collaboration between companies and universities.
Autonomous automobiles are the future of transportation but engineers face ethical problems to its
implementation. Engineers will have to work with ethicists to design morally responsible self driving
cars and encourage participation from a wide variety of

Compare and contrast the birth stories in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. How do the differences
set up distinct theological emphases in each Gospel?
The foundation of the Christian faith is cradled within truth of the virgin birth, life, and resurrection of
Jesus Christ. As diverse as the world wide Christian culture is, the truth in the birth and life of Jesus
stands without border and language limitations. Just as each individual life story can be adapted to be
relevant for a variety of audiences, the birth story of the Messiah was also. The Gospels of Matthew

s narration spoke to the history of the Jewish people and Luke presented to the citizen of Rome.
In the Gospel of Matthew, the focus on the Jewish genealogy of Jesus played a significant role in the
birth story. To fully understand Jesus, it was imperative to first acknowledge who Jesus was within
Jewish ancestry and his subsequent position as King of the Jews. Jewish tradition passed down the
oral and written story of Messianic prophecies for generations. To provide the correlation between the
anticipated Messiah and the fulfillment through Jesus, Matthew affirmed prophecies throughout the
birth story with two significant fulfillments Abraham s promised seed [offspring] and the virgin birth.

Research Paper first draft
16th Nov 2011
In a Dark Night, I Find My Answers. The two poems Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening and
Acquainted with the Night written by Robert Frost are very similar to each other because of the
simplistic form of language used and the uses of metaphors. When we first read the poem, it looks like
an ordinary poem but once we go in depth and understand the meaning, it becomes so much more.
Both of the poem has a very dark, gloomy and lonely setting with a really mysterious tone. There are

I have walked out in rain and back in rain. from Acquainted with the Night shows the depression of
the character because most of us relate to rain as an emotional moment and makes us feel vulnerable.
When it rains, the whole atmosphere becomes very gloomy and sad, and the author is trying to express
the characters sadness.
The character in Stopping by Woods in a Snowy Evening is a very old fashioned person because he is
with a horse and rides his horse through the woods. My little horse must think it queer. To stop
without a farmhouse near Between the woods and frozen lake shows how even his horse is surprised
to be stopping in the middle of the woods where there is no livelihood. It is very unusual even for the
horse to stop at this hour of the night because they should be trying to get home as soon as possible
since it is already dark. He gives his harness bells a shake. To ask if there is some mistake. express
how the horse is also very attentive about what is going on around him and his master s unusual
behavior. The horse tries to confirm with the character whether or not they have stopped in the right
place.
I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet. When far away an interrupted cry. Came over houses

Tragic Hero In Macbeth Essay
For a writer to take a good, noble man and destroy him is no easy task. To do
this while maintaining the reader s sympathy for the character is even harder. In
Macbeth, this is exactly the task writer William Shakespeare chose to do. Macbeth is
a play depicting the downfall of an honorable man named Macbeth. Shakespeare
creates a tragic hero in Macbeth, even though the task is hard. Although Macbeth s
downfall is gradual, the majority of the decisions he has to make to go down his path

How Does Stalin Deserve The Great Purges
During the 1930 s, Stalin ordered large scale purges, targeting anyone who displayed even the slightest
sign of being a threat to the government. The government was able to identify these people through
family members or close friends who informed on them. With this, people no longer expressed their
true opinions and instead conformed with the government s ideas in fear of persecution ( Purges and
Praises ). About 20 million people that were suspected of performing anti Soviet activities were
executed, sent to Gulag labor camps, or forced them to take part in a show trial, where they would be
forced plead guilty publicly to inconceivable crimes that they had never committed (Gracheva). Many
officials and military leaders were also executed after being convicted of treason. It is estimated that
one thirds of the Communist Party s three million members were put to death during the Great Purge.
However, the traces of the people that were murdered were eliminated after the government rewrote
history books and doctored photographs to exclude them. Additionally, members of the NKVD, the
Soviet secret police, were killed at the end of the Great Purges, so that the people that had known too

A Long Day s Journey Into The Night
Women are often perceived as mother figures who stand by their husbands no matter what type of
situation they encounter. They are expected to give a perfect image to society and do not get the
greater say. Eugene O Neill s play, A Long Day s Journey into the Night (1940), gives the reader a
representation of a woman who is still influenced by these standard societal expectations. The
character, Mary Tyrone, depends greatly of her husband and will not leave him even if she wanted to.
In The Awakening (1899) by Kate Chopin, the reader is introduced to Edna Pontellier who is the
complete opposite. She exposes the dissatisfaction that women feel and decides to act upon it. These
two characters feel that they do not belong in the lifestyle they are given. They struggle with their
identity due to their husbands lack of affection. As a result, marriage becomes a barrier to their
happiness and individual fulfillment. The sense of displacement, marital dissatisfaction, and loss and
gain of identity pushes both Mary and Edna to take major decisions in order to deal with their pain and
desires. Mary deals with the sense of displacement because of the absence of a stable home. Since her
husband, James, was an actor, the family would have to move around depending on his schedule.
Leaving Mary and her children on cheap hotel room. Mary was not a fan of this, she never had a place
to call home. She fondly remembers her ideal childhood home, and contrasts it with her present

use of some imperfect individuals to accomplish His purpose for Israel. There are twelve books
exactly that deal with the history of the nation of Israel and how God accomplished His goals. These
twelve books are Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1st and 2nd Samuel, 1st and 2nd Kings, 1st and 2nd
Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther. These books share a prophetic view of history describing
how the obedience or disobedience of God s people is directly tied to the blessings and curses of the
covenant. The first of these books is Joshua. In this book, the possession of the land by the nation is
the main point. It tells us the story of Israel s arrival at Canaan, otherwise known as the Promise Land,
while under the leadership of Joshua. God appoints Joshua as a leader and that he will never leave him
or forsake him. Joshua stood strong in his faith, his obedience to God, and he was courageous. So
although Joshua was one out of many men that were not apparently flawed, this book is a foundation
for all that was to come. The second book of history was Judges. The Book of Judges is

Five Factor Personality Test Scores
Five Factor Personality Test Scores
I was excited to take The Five Factor Personality Test, since I have taken it before and would like to
see if there were any significant changes within my personality traits. After finding my results, it
concluded no significant change. My extraversion score was a 42, which is relatively high. My
agreeableness score was a high of 33. My conscientiousness score was 35, which is an average score.
My neuroticism score was a 30 and my openness score was a 29, both relatively high. I truly believe
this assessment is a good predictor of my personality (Buchanan, n.d.).
Accuracy of The Five Factor Personality Test I have to agree my assessment results are congruent
with my personality. As an extravert, I am extremely talkative and social. I enjoy interacting with
individuals on a daily basis and being able to communicate through speech. It was no surprise when I
saw my extraversion score at a high level. I tend to be a very agreeable person. I am always helping
others and putting their needs before my own. Sympathy and caring are personality traits learned over
the last few years in my life. I am an extremely conscientious person, who is always controlling my
surrounding environments. I rely heavily on myself and am determined to achieve my life goals. I
figured my neuroticism score would be high, since I am filled with anxiety, depression, and fear. My
ability to adjust to change is not the greatest, which affects my emotional stability. The

Have you ever had a Family member that has been impacted or hurt in war? I am lucky enough to not
have one but there are many people who do. If you have a family member that is mentally hurt or
physically hurt wouldn t you want to get them help? The wounded warrior project helps out warriors
who have been injured in war and helps them recover from everything that has happened to them. I
would want to join this organization more than any other one. I want to help out people who have
risked their lives and helped our country grow.
War is not something most people want to go into, but sometimes people don t have much of a choice.

we should give them something in return. Well the WWP helps out by raising money to be able to give

Overall I believe that the Wounded Warrior Project is by far one of the best charity s at the moment.
Just the feeling of helping out people who have helped out our country so much, seeing how happy the

Justice Systems And The Justice System Of Other Nations
There are numerous things that have been and will be discussed concerning our justice system and the
justice system of other nations. Contrarily there are varying types of courts all throughout these other
nations as well. Similarly, all nations have criminal sanctions, sentencing practices, and types of
punishment, death penalties, and imprisonments. The question I present is what about all those who
have been unlawfully convicted, sentenced and then later on exonerated centered upon DNA or

The U.S. Constitution is supposed to guarantee the protection of those rights. This is why we go
through countless lengths of looking for evidence and testimonies in our courts of law. Regardless of
who the person is or what they may have done, discretion should always be used because the evidence
will in many cases set the path for the sentence. If all the components are brought properly to the case,
then the investigations should work accordingly and as follows from courts to sentencing.
Nevertheless, those that are given a guilty verdict are not always the truly guilty defendants, many
innocent people have been led to prison and there is where their nightmare begins in living color.
When an innocent individual is incarcerated, it is an injustice to the individual being sentenced, the
relatives of the sentenced, and the criminal justice system altogether. Years may pass and new
evidence will be presented such as DNA testing and it will have confirmed that individual as innocent
exonerated of their crimes. The challenge of being incarcerated is for the individual to make a change
into a normal life which many times can be hard. Not only should our society do its part to improve
the criminal justice system but also to support the responsibility in restoring those who have served
their time under a wrong conviction. If there is anything we as a society should also provide to these

Analysis Of The Movie Amazing Grace At A Rally
Maggie Lauterer was an everyday (wo)man and Democrat from North Carolina who ran for Congress
in 1994. She was the first woman to run for Congress from her district. In her town she was a well
known newscaster. She was asked to run by democratic leaders in her district. They wanted to use her
popularity to get into Congress. The video contains many of what seem to be her campaign videos,
which were taken from her home with her family or while she was doing regular household chores,
while talking about her political views. It also includes her talking to the citizens about issues like gun
control. She also sings Amazing Grace at a rally. A good deal of the video consist of Maggie talking
about how she wants to campaign, her beliefs, and her strategies. There are also interviews from her
campaign manager talking about the crazy things she keeps doing and how the people are reacting to
her. Lastly, citizens are interviewed on their opinions of Maggie. Maggie s competition, Charles
Taylor, has already been in Congress two years as a Republican. He outs out smear videos about
Maggie, telling how she is pro abortion and wants the government to control everything. Unlike
Taylor, Maggie had no political experience. As outsider in the political world, Maggie uses her
heritage, her family having lived in the North Carolina Mountains for seven generations, as a big part
of her campaign. Maggie has a hard time getting money for her campaign. She starts by calling

What Is Ernest Hemingway Code Hero
Each person has their own perception of what a hero is. Ernest Hemingway has a specific set of
guidelines to identify who is a hero and who isn t: Code Hero. Hemingway s code entails following
the ideals of honor, courage and endurance in a world that is sometimes chaotic, often stressful, and
always painful. Two characters, each written by Ernest Hemingway and John Steinbeck, respectively,
both demonstrate and fall short of Hemingway s standard. Santiago, of Ernest Hemingway s Old Man

The Effects Of Music On Deaf People
INTRODUCTION : Ever wonder if deaf people can listen to music and enjoy it as much as hearing
people do? Well the outcome is certainly surprising, as deaf people cannot listen but perceive music in
much more deeper and meaningful ways because they can feel the core vibrations, hence allowing
them to feel the rhythm of music and enjoy it just like hearing people do. The perception of the
musical vibrations by the Deaf is likely every bit as real as the equivalent sounds, since they are
ultimately processed in the same part of the brain (WebMD). In today s world, majority of people are
creatures of sound, and most of them are always accompanied by their best friend; their music player,
which has taken the shape of many different devices such as iPods, phones, mp3 players, laptops and
many others, they would rarely be unaccompanied by their headphones, having constant access to the
Radio or a personal music library. Walking down the street, you come across many people who
practically walk into telephone booths, electric polls and sign boards as they are too busy paying
attention to the noises and sounds emanating from their headphones, making them visually oblivious
to the world around them. This essay will focus on how the deaf perceive music and how the music
industry has progressed in serving the deaf so that they can also enjoy and experience music the same
way as hearing people do. It has therefore been spectacularly enlightening to discover that people

Elizabethan Pirates Essay
Elizabethan Pirates
Did you ever think that some pirates fought for their country? Contrary to what some might believe,
Elizabethan pirates, or privateers, fought for Queen Elizabeth of England. Also, for various reasons
they were called sea dogs and buccaneers. The privateers were actually encouraged by the government
to pillage their enemies. Elizabethan privateers were enlisted and licensed by the government, were
unified in their cause, focused more on capturing than destroying enemy ships, and were made famous
through their victories.
In the Elizabethan Era, England and Spain were in conflict due to their differences in religion. With
the arrival of Queen Elizabeth, the official religion of England changed to Protestant (Religion ...

These pirates then became known as privateers because of their new alliances. A pirate will attack
anybody, regardless of nationality, whereas a privateer has a license and will attack only the enemies
of his/her country (Elizabeth s Sea Dogs).
Another interesting fact about privateers is that they were unified in their cause. Regular pirates have
little to no affiliation with each other, whereas all the privateers that Queen Elizabeth hired worked
together to achieve the same goal. Because of this, they accomplished very large feats. If they hadn t
worked together, winning the war would have been extremely difficult. The teamwork of the
privateers is what intimidated the King of Spain and allowed them to severely damage the Armada
(Sir Francis Drake). The unity of the privateers with the Royal English Navy also had a large impact
on the war. If England was to win, teamwork between the Navy and the privateers was very important.
If they hadn t gotten along, several battles could have been lost just because of arguments.
Elizabethan privateers focused on capturing ships rather than destroying them. This way, they and
Queen Elizabeth could profit from their victories. If the privateers had destroyed the ships, there
would have been no gain at all for the English. By capturing the ships, they acquired the loot and the

Essay on Robert Nozick´s Happiness and the Experience Machine
Robert Nozick s Happiness
Many theorist believe that happiness is the only important in people s life, and all that should matter to
a person is being happy. The standard of assessing a good life is how much or quantity of happiness it
contains. This openness of happiness, its generosity of spirit and width of appreciation, gets warped
and constricted by the claim pretending to be its greatest friend that only happiness matters, nothing
else. Robert Nozick does not on the side of hedonistic utilitarianism, he gives several examples to
show that there are other elements of reality we may strive for, even at the expense of pleasure. In this
essay, I will focus on Nozick s opinion of the direction of happiness and the experience ... Show more

Nozick briefly discusses the nature of pleasure, as it is clearly an important element of happiness.
There are pleasures of the body and mind, as well as pleasures of the emotion. They are all valued for
their felt quality that what they have in common That is what a pleasure is, and is different from
something like Equality, which is not valued for good feelings , but pleasure is something valued for
its felt qualities.
The experience machine is one of Nozick s best known arguments . The experience machine is a
thought experiment which posits the existence of a device that can give its user any experience
desired. When one placed in an experience machine , it can program any experience, such as traveling
to the moon. The experience machine is supposed to allow someone to have all and any of the
pleasures in the world. However, Nozick states that even though if such machine exits no one would
use it, which shows that there are more important things than pleasure.
What Nozick suggests is that we would not use such a machine. Here are some arguments from
Nozick.
1) if the only thing that mattered to us was pleasure, then we would plug ourselves into a machine that
could any simulate experiences we desired.
2) Even if the machine existed, we would not plug ourselves into it for three reasons:
 What we want not just experience them, but actually do certain things
 We want to

Observation of Sub-Atomic Particles
1. A) Part of the wave might penetrate it or it might not. This would be random and would depend on
the energy of the electron attempting to penetrate.
B) The pattern that initially seemed random would begin to acquire uniformity. Half of the electrons
would transmit and half would reflect and go back. Each of the electrons that transmitted would carry
its complete charge and mass.
C) One cannot say where the electron really is, whether a given electron will transmit or reflect. It is
only possible to state the probability of electrons actions. For example, one may say that the
probability is one in five that the electron will transmit and four out of five that it will be reflected
back.
D) Some physicists find the result difficult to accept because they perceive it as what Einstein called
God playing dice with the universe . The unpredictability inherent with this result and the fact that it
seems to contradict both Newtonian physics as well as reality, make it a less than ideal paradigm for
many physicists.
E) David Hume would have vehemently objected to my answer on part C). Hume s word view was

A Brief Look at Quantum Optics
Quantum optics tells us that left (l) and right (r) circularly polarized (CP) photon conveys integer spin
angular momentum, +ℏ and ℏ, respectively, although photon is massless elemental particle. The nature
of integer spin obeying Bose Einstein statics makes plural spins confine in an ultrasmall
temporalspace with the same quantum state, meanwhile, half integer spin like electron denies to share
the same quantum state in a molecular space, well known as Pauli exclusion principle. Intense CP
photon acts as an energy source that preferentially generate optically active substance from prochiral
substances and/or to preferentially decompose one enantiomer from racemic mixtures. On the other
hand, weak CP photon is used as a probe to detect substance chirality in the ground and photoexcited
states, known as circular dichroism (CD), optical rotation dispersion (ORD) and circularly polarized
luminescence (CPL) spectroscopy.1 Knowledge and understanding an efficient generation and
reversibility of optically active substances from achiral precursors in the absence of chiral chemical
influence has long been a challenging subject among chemists and scientists. This approach called
absolute asymmetric synthesis (AAS) is beneficial to avoid multiple step synthesis that often require
designed catalysts and specific chiral chemical sources with high ee.2 So far, several AASs have been
employed, including spontaneous symmetry breaking crystallization, vortex stirring,3f 3h

Happiness and Epicurus Essay examples
Epicureanism is a philosophy developed the teachings and ideals of a man named Epicurus.
Epicureanism is defined by Epicurus as the pleasure for the end of all morality and that real pleasure is
attained through a life of prudence, honor, and justice. Epicurus introduced this philosophy around
322 B.C, and two schools established in Athens. Epicurus taught the ethics of his philosophy in his
school, that a person should live by the art of making life happy , and that prudence is the noblest part
of philosophy (newadvent.org). Epicurus ideals for life intrigued people and they began to think that
perhaps the ethics of Epicureanism had some truth behind it; a person should live his/her life to the

to see that Epicureanism, in fact, can be put into the context of life without really thinking about the
philosophy. The history of Epicureanism is important for people because his teachings are simple
enough to live by, without submitting. The ethics behind Epicureanism are very simple. Epicurus
demonstrates that experience shows happiness is not best attained by directly seeking it. The selfish
are not more happy but less so than the unselfish. This statement is very powerful for the simple
person. Epicurus proves that if a person seeks to be happy he/she usually won t be able to find true
happiness.
Epicurus states
Thus although virtue is inseparable from pleasure and necessary if we are to be happy, it is to be
chosen not for its own sake but for the sake of pleasure. Beauty and the virtues and the like are to be
honored if they provide pleasure, but, if they do not, we must say goodbye to them.(Intro. Epicurus,

I Hear The Cry Of My Life
I hear the cry. Of course it is four thirty in the morning and my little boy is ready for his middle of the
night feeding. This is the everyday life of a mother of two. I wrap my bundle of joy up and feed him.
While this usually isn t a normal time for people to think about their hopes and dreams it tends to be
mine. At the age of sixteen, I moved with my husband to Norman and realized that the best
opportunities for my family s future would be to pursue a professional degree. My college experience
began the summer after I graduated a year early from high school. This definitely left me clueless at
answering the dreaded question, What are you going to do for the rest of your life? But the one thing I
had set in stone was being in the medical field. After picking the wrong major over and over, I felt
passionate and committed to follow a career in medical imaging.
When I think about a sonographer s job the first thing that comes to mind is a computer. Recently, I
had multiple ultrasounds during my second pregnancy. Every time I stepped into the perinatal center I
got excited. While I was thrilled to see my little boy swimming around I couldn t help but be excited
to see the ultrasound preformed. When we were let back into the room I couldn t resist trying to read
all the buttons on the computer and try to figure out how to work the machine. In high school, I joined
the bot ball team. Botball is a program that engages middle and high school students in a team

Age Of Enlightenment Research Paper
The Late 17th and 18th century was a time of many changes. With the new era becoming the Age of
Enlightenment, creative ways of thinking and ideas began to emerge. The main philosophers consisted
of John Locke, Voltaire, Adam Smith and Mary Wollstonecraft. These thinkers (Philosophers) had
many general ideas in common but all had unique ideas. With so many philosophers in the 17th
century, the period began to be known as The Age of Enlightenment. Quickly the years passed, thus
having more and more ideas. The philosophers created new ideas and addressed many problems such
as equality and government values. Overall, the philosophers of The Age of Enlightenment helped

All of the philosophers in general believed in freedom and choice and equality. For example, Mary
Wollstonecraft and John Locke all believed in equality and choice but in different ways. John Locke
believed that the government should be run by the people s freedom of choice and their reasoning.
Mary Wollstonecraft still believed in the same ideas as Locke, just in different ways. She believed that
women should be equal to men and education should be for everyone . As a whole, the three believed
in many ideas that could be considered the main ideas of the Enlightenment. Overall, the Philosophers

Legalizing Marijuana in the United States Essay
Legalizing Marijuana Debate
Marijuana, also known as Cannabis is the third most well liked recreational drug, which only falls
behind alcohol and tobacco, in the United States (The Whitehouse, n.d.). Marijuana is made up of
dried leaves, plants, stalks, and pits from the hemp plant Cannabis Sativa, which comprises of the
mind altering compound delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), in addition to other associated
compounds. This plant substance can correspondingly be converged in a resin called hashish or an
adhesive black fluid called hash oil. Efforts to legalize marijuana for medication treatment and
recreational use in the United States have grown in current years. The Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) states that marijuana may perhaps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The United States has been involved in a failing battle versus marijuana since the execution of the
Uniform Narcotic Act in the 1930 s. Americans are not only squandering almost eight billion a year,
Americans are losing probable income. Americans could be in a position to gain a profit of a
significant amount of revenues if marijuana were to be legal and structured by the Department of
Agriculture (Norml, 2014). Revenue from the tax system of marijuana purchases would extend from
about two and a half billion for each year if marijuana were taxed like conventional inventory
products to six billion if it were taxed like tobacco or alcohol.
Marijuana is a contrast to tobacco and alcohol when addiction characteristics do not show with the use
of marijuana while addiction shows with legal tobacco and alcohol. It shows that less than one in ten
marijuana smokers convert to consistent consumers of the drug, and most intentionally terminate their
use after age 34, by comparison, 15 percent of alcohol users and 32 percent of tobacco smokers
display indicators of drug dependency. Cannabis withdrawal indicators are uncommon and do not
need replacement medication to stop the habit. When smoking marijuana comes to an end of an intake,
the vast majority of smokers do not feel subjected to uncomfortable withdrawal indicators
commanding restarting the use of marijuana. The authority of marijuana is much more profound than
plain human physiology; it is a

New Soviet Man Essay
During the formation of the Soviet Union, leaders such as Stalin not only wanted to attain all
authoritarian and political based rule, but also wanted to attain and achieve a much more complicated
task. Several Soviet Union leaders wanted to attain what was known as the New Soviet Man . This
meant that all forms of society and communities would detach from their former ideals and fully take
on being a soviet and acknowledging the culture in a religious manner. This meant the eradication of
culture and all other religions Stalin disapproved of, and the formation and practice of one religion.
This also meant the disintegration of ethnic communities, and the detachment of religion, such as
islam. The acknowledgement of cultural diversity did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Soviet Union hope to attain the New Soviet Man , but in their attempts only made their state
situation much more dreadful by causing severe fragmentation within several ethnic groups, politics,
as well as the army. This cast upon the Soviets a very bad image, which when the Soviet Union
applied more tension, made their situation only worse. The Soviet Union became such a fragmented
Union that Gorbachev could no longer control the power of the population and was forced to resign,
and hence the fall of the Soviet Union. Political and Ethnic fragmentation contributed to the
disintegration of the Soviet Union by causing division in leadership, This division within the Soviet
leadership weakened its ability to respond to centrifugal forces and contributed to the central
authorities erratic response to them (Hunter et.al, 212), as well as prove that the New Soviet Man was
socially untenable, The notion that nationalities would willingly give up their cultural identities for the
common good, and that a unique soviet man would emerge was socially untenable. (Xenakis,

Application Of An Android App
Introduction In order to fulfil the task presented, which was to create an android app which displays a
university campus map with clickable buildings showing the available computers in the building while
also having buttons for reserving a computer. In addition to being able to cancel a reservation, and
alter the number of computers available dependant on reserving or cancelling reservations. To do this I
have to plan the procedure I will take while coding it using the AppInventor program. First of all I
need to gather all of the required pre requisites to the task, such as the university campus map. Next I
need to design the graphical user interface (GUI) of the program, this includes the sizes of the buttons,
arrangement of components ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I implemented this into my app in order to make the UI more organised like this: After this, I needed
to find a method of displaying an image as I needed to display a campus map image for task 2. I found
a YouTube video3 showing this. The steps taken were to upload an image file using the upload file
button, place a canvas and re arrange the size, then change the background image to the uploaded
photo in the properties tab. My end product looked like this: In order to complete task 2 I would need
to find a suitable method for interacting with the image, resulting in specific behaviour when an area
of the image is pressed. This would have been needed as the specification for the app would be the
user touching the building desired, then the computers available would be displayed. My first place to
look for a solution was by browsing the appinventor documentation4 . In the documentation I found
the description of a ball , described as A round sprite that can be placed on a Canvas, where it can
react to touches and drags interact with other sprites . This suited my requirements and so I had to find
out how to use this sprite. By simply searching in the designer I found the location of the ball sprite,
however I could not place it. After re reading the MIT documentation I discovered it had to be placed
over an image sprite, and so I placed an image sprite and then after a ball, and it placed. Once

My Experience In College Students, Being A College Student
Being a college student who is taking 18 credits this semester as well as working 15 hours a week, I
experience multiple stressors every week that I try my best to deal with. Two stressors I have dealt
with the past two weeks are struggling to manage my time and arguing with my boyfriend. The past
two weeks I had a lot of assignments due as well as a major test and a quiz. I realized it was a stressor
when I got assigned our extra credit paper that was due the day before my major exam. I was already
thinking of how I was going to spend the rest of the week and the weekend to study for my exam and
quiz, prepare for my presentation, keep up with the chapters my classes are reviewing, and work.
When we got assigned the extra credit paper, I panicked a little and realized trying to figure out how to
fit all of it into my schedule was a stressor. I noticed that my heart rate slightly increased from
panicking a little and I got antsy, as in I could not sit still. I have confronted managing my time before,
when I first got my job this semester. Like I said, I am taking 18 credits, so adding working 15 hours a
week took away a lot of study time that I had to figure out how to make up. It actually cuts into my
social life a decent amount, but I live with all of my closest friends and study with them, so I see them
a decent amount. What I typically do when I freak out about how much stuff I have to do and how
little time I have, I start to plan out my days by hour in my planner. I

The Characteristics Of A Serial Killer And The Zodiac Killer
In this paper, I will describe who the Zodiac Killer was, but also how a serial killer is different from a
normal homicide suspect. In addition, I will explain if the Zodiac Killer had specific criteria when he
selected his victims and whether a forensic psychologist or criminal profiler provided input in this
case. Finally, I will express my thoughts on why the Zodiac Killer was never captured and what else,
if anything could have been done to help find the infamous Zodiac Killer.
In order to explain how a serial killer is different than a normal homicide is to first understand how a
serial killer operates. On December 20, 1968, in the sleepy town of Benecia, California the murders of
a teenage couple were discovered in an area called lover s lane off Lake Herman Road. The victims,
Betty Lou Jensen and David Faraday, were shot while parked in their car around 11:10pm.
Investigators collected shell casings and other evidence from the scene, but after several months they
still did not have any witnesses or suspects. Then on July 4, 1969, a second young couple were
attacked by a gunman while in their car parked at Blue Rock Springs Park in Vallejo; about 10 miles
northwest of the Benecia murders. The female victim Darlene Ferrin died from her wounds, but
Michael Mageau who was shot in the leg, neck and jaw survived and was able to tell the police what
had occurred, along with a brief description of the gunman. Later, the gunman phoned the Vallejo
Police Department

However, to be a successful educational leader, it is crucial to understand and be familiar with the various theories and styles of leadership as well as our personal tendencies to nurture a personal leadership style. In The Awakening (1899) by Kate Chopin, the reader is introduced to Edna Pontellier who is the complete opposite. She exposes the dissatisfaction that women feel and decides to act upon it. These two characters feel that they do not belong in the lifestyle they are given. They struggle with their identity due to their husbands lack of affection. As a result, marriage becomes a barrier to their happiness and individual fulfillment. The sense of displacement, marital dissatisfaction, and loss and gain of identity pushes both Mary and Edna to take major decisions in order to deal with their pain and desires. Mary deals with the sense of displacement because of the absence of a stable home. Since her husband, James, was an actor, the family would have to move around depending on his schedule. With God s love and perfection He is able to use us, the imperfect, to carry out His will. We have all sinned and continue to ask for forgiveness when needed. Although we are not perfect, God still has a plan for our lives and it is our duty to follow out His will. In the Old Testament there are books of history, which discuss God s use of some imperfect individuals to accomplish His purpose for Israel. There are twelve books exactly that deal with the history of the nation of Israel and how God accomplished His goals. These twelve books are Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1st and 2nd Samuel, 1st and 2nd Kings, 1st and 2nd Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther. These books share a prophetic view of history describing how the obedience or disobedience of God s people is directly tied to the blessings and curses of the covenant. The first of these books is Joshua. In this book, the possession of the land by the nation is the main point. It tells us the story of Israel s arrival at Canaan, otherwise known as the Promise Land, while under the leadership of Joshua. God appoints Joshua as a leader and that he will never leave him or forsake him. Joshua stood strong in his faith, his obedience to God, and he was courageous. So although Joshua was one out of many men that were not apparently flawed, this book is a foundation for all that was to come. The second book of history was Judges. The Book of Judges is ... • 29. The Effects Of Music On Deaf People INTRODUCTION : Ever wonder if deaf people can listen to music and enjoy it as much as hearing people do? Well the outcome is certainly surprising, as deaf people cannot listen but perceive music in much more deeper and meaningful ways because they can feel the core vibrations, hence allowing them to feel the rhythm of music and enjoy it just like hearing people do. The perception of the musical vibrations by the Deaf is likely every bit as real as the equivalent sounds, since they are ultimately processed in the same part of the brain (WebMD). In today s world, majority of people are creatures of sound, and most of them are always accompanied by their best friend; their music player, which has taken the shape of many different devices such as iPods, phones, mp3 players, laptops and many others, they would rarely be unaccompanied by their headphones, having constant access to the Radio or a personal music library. Walking down the street, you come across many people who practically walk into telephone booths, electric polls and sign boards as they are too busy paying attention to the noises and sounds emanating from their headphones, making them visually oblivious to the world around them. This essay will focus on how the deaf perceive music and how the music industry has progressed in serving the deaf so that they can also enjoy and experience music the same way as hearing people do. Elizabethan privateers were enlisted and licensed by the government, were unified in their cause, focused more on capturing than destroying enemy ships, and were made famous through their victories. These pirates then became known as privateers because of their new alliances. A pirate will attack anybody, regardless of nationality, whereas a privateer has a license and will attack only the enemies of his/her country (Elizabeth s Sea Dogs). Another interesting fact about privateers is that they were unified in their cause. Regular pirates have little to no affiliation with each other, whereas all the privateers that Queen Elizabeth hired worked together to achieve the same goal. Because of this, they accomplished very large feats. If they hadn t worked together, winning the war would have been extremely difficult. The teamwork of the privateers is what intimidated the King of Spain and allowed them to severely damage the Armada (Sir Francis Drake). The unity of the privateers with the Royal English Navy also had a large impact on the war. If England was to win, teamwork between the Navy and the privateers was very important. If they hadn t gotten along, several battles could have been lost just because of arguments. Elizabethan privateers focused on capturing ships rather than destroying them. This way, they and Queen Elizabeth could profit from their victories. If the privateers had destroyed the ships, there would have been no gain at all for the English. The experience machine is supposed to allow someone to have all and any of the pleasures in the world. Each of the electrons that transmitted would carry its complete charge and mass. C) One cannot say where the electron really is, whether a given electron will transmit or reflect. The nature of integer spin obeying Bose Einstein statics makes plural spins confine in an ultrasmall temporalspace with the same quantum state, meanwhile, half integer spin like electron denies to share the same quantum state in a molecular space, well known as Pauli exclusion principle. Intense CP photon acts as an energy source that preferentially generate optically active substance from prochiral substances and/or to preferentially decompose one enantiomer from racemic mixtures. On the other hand, weak CP photon is used as a probe to detect substance chirality in the ground and photoexcited states, known as circular dichroism (CD), optical rotation dispersion (ORD) and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) spectroscopy.1 Knowledge and understanding an efficient generation and reversibility of optically active substances from achiral precursors in the absence of chiral chemical influence has long been a challenging subject among chemists and scientists. This approach called absolute asymmetric synthesis (AAS) is beneficial to avoid multiple step synthesis that often require designed catalysts and specific chiral chemical sources with high ee.2 So far, several AASs have been employed, including spontaneous symmetry breaking crystallization, vortex stirring,3f 3h ... • 41. Happiness and Epicurus Essay examples Epicureanism is a philosophy developed the teachings and ideals of a man named Epicurus. Epicureanism is defined by Epicurus as the pleasure for the end of all morality and that real pleasure is attained through a life of prudence, honor, and justice. Epicurus introduced this philosophy around 322 B.C, and two schools established in Athens. Epicurus taught the ethics of his philosophy in his school, that a person should live by the art of making life happy , and that prudence is the noblest part of philosophy (newadvent.org). Epicurus ideals for life intrigued people and they began to think that perhaps the ethics of Epicureanism had some truth behind it; a person should live his/her life to the fullest in order to become happy. Thomas Jefferson, during the history of America, admitted that the teachings of Epicureanism, by saying this quote, Epicureanism and Epicurus give laws for governing ourselves, Jesus a supplement of the duties and charities we owe to others, (epicurus.net). Through the eyes of the beholder a person can be able to see that Epicureanism, in fact, can be put into the context of life without really thinking about the philosophy. The history of Epicureanism is important for people because his teachings are simple enough to live by, without submitting. The ethics behind Epicureanism are very simple. Epicurus demonstrates that experience shows happiness is not best attained by directly seeking it. The selfish are not more happy but less so than the unselfish. This statement is very powerful for the simple person. Epicurus proves that if a person seeks to be happy he/she usually won t be able to find true happiness. Epicurus states Thus although virtue is inseparable from pleasure and necessary if we are to be happy, it is to be chosen not for its own sake but for the sake of pleasure. Beauty and the virtues and the like are to be honored if they provide pleasure, but, if they do not, we must say goodbye to them.(Intro. Epicurus, 124) Happiness ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. I Hear The Cry Of My Life I hear the cry. Of course it is four thirty in the morning and my little boy is ready for his middle of the night feeding. This is the everyday life of a mother of two. I wrap my bundle of joy up and feed him. While this usually isn t a normal time for people to think about their hopes and dreams it tends to be mine. At the age of sixteen, I moved with my husband to Norman and realized that the best opportunities for my family s future would be to pursue a professional degree. My college experience began the summer after I graduated a year early from high school. This definitely left me clueless at answering the dreaded question, What are you going to do for the rest of your life? But the one thing I had set in stone was being in the medical field. After picking the wrong major over and over, I felt passionate and committed to follow a career in medical imaging. When I think about a sonographer s job the first thing that comes to mind is a computer. Recently, I had multiple ultrasounds during my second pregnancy. Every time I stepped into the perinatal center I got excited. While I was thrilled to see my little boy swimming around I couldn t help but be excited to see the ultrasound preformed. When we were let back into the room I couldn t resist trying to read all the buttons on the computer and try to figure out how to work the machine. In high school, I joined the bot ball team. Legalizing Marijuana in the United States Essay Legalizing Marijuana Debate Marijuana, also known as Cannabis is the third most well liked recreational drug, which only falls behind alcohol and tobacco, in the United States (The Whitehouse, n.d.). Marijuana is made up of dried leaves, plants, stalks, and pits from the hemp plant Cannabis Sativa, which comprises of the mind altering compound delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), in addition to other associated compounds. This plant substance can correspondingly be converged in a resin called hashish or an adhesive black fluid called hash oil. The United States has been involved in a failing battle versus marijuana since the execution of the Uniform Narcotic Act in the 1930 s. Americans are not only squandering almost eight billion a year, Americans are losing probable income. Americans could be in a position to gain a profit of a significant amount of revenues if marijuana were to be legal and structured by the Department of Agriculture (Norml, 2014). Revenue from the tax system of marijuana purchases would extend from about two and a half billion for each year if marijuana were taxed like conventional inventory products to six billion if it were taxed like tobacco or alcohol. Marijuana is a contrast to tobacco and alcohol when addiction characteristics do not show with the use of marijuana while addiction shows with legal tobacco and alcohol. It shows that less than one in ten marijuana smokers convert to consistent consumers of the drug, and most intentionally terminate their use after age 34, by comparison, 15 percent of alcohol users and 32 percent of tobacco smokers display indicators of drug dependency. Cannabis withdrawal indicators are uncommon and do not need replacement medication to stop the habit. When smoking marijuana comes to an end of an intake, the vast majority of smokers do not feel subjected to uncomfortable withdrawal indicators commanding restarting the use of marijuana. New Soviet Man Essay During the formation of the Soviet Union, leaders such as Stalin not only wanted to attain all authoritarian and political based rule, but also wanted to attain and achieve a much more complicated task. Several Soviet Union leaders wanted to attain what was known as the New Soviet Man . This meant that all forms of society and communities would detach from their former ideals and fully take on being a soviet and acknowledging the culture in a religious manner. This meant the eradication of culture and all other religions Stalin disapproved of, and the formation and practice of one religion. This also meant the disintegration of ethnic communities, and the detachment of religion, such as islam. The acknowledgement of cultural diversity did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Soviet Union hope to attain the New Soviet Man , but in their attempts only made their state situation much more dreadful by causing severe fragmentation within several ethnic groups, politics, as well as the army. This cast upon the Soviets a very bad image, which when the Soviet Union applied more tension, made their situation only worse. The Soviet Union became such a fragmented Union that Gorbachev could no longer control the power of the population and was forced to resign, and hence the fall of the Soviet Union. Political and Ethnic fragmentation contributed to the disintegration of the Soviet Union by causing division in leadership, This division within the Soviet leadership weakened its ability to respond to centrifugal forces and contributed to the central authorities erratic response to them (Hunter et.al, 212), as well as prove that the New Soviet Man was socially untenable, The notion that nationalities would willingly give up their cultural identities for the common good, and that a unique soviet man would emerge was socially untenable. • 47. Application Of An Android App Introduction In order to fulfil the task presented, which was to create an android app which displays a university campus map with clickable buildings showing the available computers in the building while also having buttons for reserving a computer. In addition to being able to cancel a reservation, and alter the number of computers available dependant on reserving or cancelling reservations. To do this I have to plan the procedure I will take while coding it using the AppInventor program. First of all I need to gather all of the required pre requisites to the task, such as the university campus map. Next I need to design the graphical user interface (GUI) of the program, this includes the sizes of the buttons, arrangement of components ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I implemented this into my app in order to make the UI more organised like this: After this, I needed to find a method of displaying an image as I needed to display a campus map image for task 2. I found a YouTube video3 showing this. The steps taken were to upload an image file using the upload file button, place a canvas and re arrange the size, then change the background image to the uploaded photo in the properties tab. My end product looked like this: In order to complete task 2 I would need to find a suitable method for interacting with the image, resulting in specific behaviour when an area of the image is pressed. This would have been needed as the specification for the app would be the user touching the building desired, then the computers available would be displayed. My first place to look for a solution was by browsing the appinventor documentation4 . In the documentation I found the description of a ball , described as A round sprite that can be placed on a Canvas, where it can react to touches and drags interact with other sprites . This suited my requirements and so I had to find out how to use this sprite. By simply searching in the designer I found the location of the ball sprite, however I could not place it. After re reading the MIT documentation I discovered it had to be placed over an image sprite, and so I placed an image sprite and then after a ball, and it placed. Once ... • 48. My Experience In College Students, Being A College Student Being a college student who is taking 18 credits this semester as well as working 15 hours a week, I experience multiple stressors every week that I try my best to deal with. Two stressors I have dealt with the past two weeks are struggling to manage my time and arguing with my boyfriend. The past two weeks I had a lot of assignments due as well as a major test and a quiz. I realized it was a stressor when I got assigned our extra credit paper that was due the day before my major exam. I was already thinking of how I was going to spend the rest of the week and the weekend to study for my exam and quiz, prepare for my presentation, keep up with the chapters my classes are reviewing, and work. When we got assigned the extra credit paper, I panicked a little and realized trying to figure out how to fit all of it into my schedule was a stressor. I noticed that my heart rate slightly increased from panicking a little and I got antsy, as in I could not sit still. I have confronted managing my time before, when I first got my job this semester. Like I said, I am taking 18 credits, so adding working 15 hours a week took away a lot of study time that I had to figure out how to make up. It actually cuts into my social life a decent amount, but I live with all of my closest friends and study with them, so I see them a decent amount. What I typically do when I freak out about how much stuff I have to do and how little time I have, I start to plan out my days by hour in my planner. I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. The Characteristics Of A Serial Killer And The Zodiac Killer In this paper, I will describe who the Zodiac Killer was, but also how a serial killer is different from a normal homicide suspect. In addition, I will explain if the Zodiac Killer had specific criteria when he selected his victims and whether a forensic psychologist or criminal profiler provided input in this case. Finally, I will express my thoughts on why the Zodiac Killer was never captured and what else, if anything could have been done to help find the infamous Zodiac Killer. In order to explain how a serial killer is different than a normal homicide is to first understand how a serial killer operates. On December 20, 1968, in the sleepy town of Benecia, California the murders of a teenage couple were discovered in an area called lover s lane off Lake Herman Road. The victims, Betty Lou Jensen and David Faraday, were shot while parked in their car around 11:10pm. Investigators collected shell casings and other evidence from the scene, but after several months they still did not have any witnesses or suspects. Then on July 4, 1969, a second young couple were attacked by a gunman while in their car parked at Blue Rock Springs Park in Vallejo; about 10 miles northwest of the Benecia murders. The female victim Darlene Ferrin died from her wounds, but Michael Mageau who was shot in the leg, neck and jaw survived and was able to tell the police what had occurred, along with a brief description of the gunman.
