Sarcoidosis is a multisystem granulomatous disorder primarily affecting the lungs and is characterized by non-caseating granulomas. It can present acutely, sub-acutely, or chronically, with a peak incidence in individuals aged 20 to 40 and varying involvement across different racial and ethnic groups. The disease's cause is unknown, although genetic and environmental factors, along with possible infectious agents, may play a role in its development.
