Freedom Of African American Freedom
The fight for freedom is like drowning. Some people have been under the water for so long they are
no longer conscious of their surroundings. Others try to resurface. Once we do resurface, we must
never stop swimming or we will be dragged back under the dark, devastating water. The freedom we
create for ourselves may change our lives, but there is always room for improvement in this ever
changing world. In order to make the best for ourselves and our families, we need to liberate ourselves
from these forces repeatedly as the pressure the controlling forces put on us becomes too much.
Throughout history, different groups of people have been mistreated due to stereotypes. One minority
group is the African American population in our country. For hundreds of years, America has limited
the freedom of African Americans.
In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, African Americans were made slaves, because the
Caucasian people who lived here thought of them as less of people than they were. In the Three Fifths
Compromise , when deciding how many representatives should be for each state, they decided slaves
were counted as three fifths of a person, an extremely insulting fraction. African American slaves
suffered for centuries enduring hard labor and abuse in return for no money. This treatment was
unbearable and some decided to try to escape. Using the Underground Railroad, a system of safe
houses for slaves escaping the dangerous south to come to the north, people such as

the call of the wild Essay
The Call of the Wild, on the surface, is a story about Buck, a four year old dog that is part Shepherd
and part St. Bernard. More importantly, it is a naturalistic tale about the survival of the fittest in
nature. Throughout the novel, Buck proves that he is fit and can endure the law of the club, the law of
the fang, and the laws of nature.
Buck had been raised in California, on the ranch of Judge Miller. There he had the run of the place and
was loved and pampered by all. Unfortunately, one of the judge s workers had a gambling problem
and stole Buck to sell him for fifty dollars. Buck fights being tied, caged, and beaten, but his efforts
only frustrate him. He is put on a train and a boat, being shipped to Alaska to be used as a ... Show

Most of the other dogs stay away from Buck because of his size and strength, but Spitz becomes his
constant enemy, from whom he learns an important lesson. Spitz fights with Curly, one of the dogs
that is friendly to Buck. Buck watches as all the other dogs attack and kill Curly once he is down.
Buck is determined he will never be put in the same position. He will fight to the death if necessary.
Spitz constantly picks on Buck, wanting to get in a fight with him; Buck, however, resists the
challenges from Spitz. Then one time he steals the resting place that Buck has created for himself.
Buck has had enough and attacks Spitz with a vengeance. Francois and Perrault have to separate the
two dogs. Although the fight is stopped, the animosity continues, and the two enemies are always in a
skirmish. Then one day when Spitz prematurely kills a rabbit that all the dogs have been chasing,
Buck attacks again. The battle is fierce, and Buck is losing. He then calls upon his intelligence and
imagination to defeat Spitz. Instead of going for his throat, Buck attacks Spitz s front legs, breaking
both of them. Once he is down, the other dogs come in for the kill.
Now that Spitz has been eliminated, Buck is determined to become the leader of the dog sled team.
When Francois and Perrault harness Sol leks at the front of the team instead of Buck, he refuses to fall
into his place. When the drivers try to catch him, Buck runs out of reach. The quot;game quot; of tag

Bortons Reflective Framework Model
Using Bortons (1970) reflective framework model, I am going to reflect on an experience I have had
whilst out in practice with the community mental health team in the North of England. Whilst on
placement I noticed there were numerous referrals of individuals with personality disorder. Whilst in
multi disciplinary meeting when we used to get these referrals I would very often hear people say
typical PD or well there is nothing our service can do for them . At these times, I was concerned for
the individual s welfare and when speaking to the services users myself, I found it difficult due to me
having limited experiencing working with individuals who have a diagnosis of personality disorder
(PD). Because of this, I have decided to look up possible research ideas regarding PD. To see if there
was a different type of medications, therapies and other services which are available to individuals
with varied diagnosis of PD. From my experience and observations of working on acute wards, I
found that health care professionals aren t sure how to treat or mange service users with PD
sometimes. According to the American Psychiatric Association (2001) the primary treatment for
personality disorders is psychotherapy, complemented by pharmacotherapy to treat symptoms during
periods of acute decompensation. Therefore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Political Involvement os Power of the Public
Political Involvement
The primary reason for political involvement in government intervention is the power of public
opinion. When the people collectively begin to aggressively voice their concerns for a certain action to
take place, it forces the hand of the government to act in response to that distress (Kraft and Furlong,
2013). There are currently nineteen states that offer a higher minimum wage than the federal mandate.
Thirteen states raised their minimum wage levels on January 1, 2014, increasing the purchasing power
of the lowest paid workers in each respective state, some of the increases were under fifteen cents
(United States Department of Labor).
It is projected that minimum wage increases will drive consumer spending; and ... Show more content

The winners in this case would be the workforce earning another $.10 $.25 per hour and this calculates
to an additional $10.00 per week or $520.00 per year with a quarter per hour. However, this can add
up very fast when this is required for hundreds of employees for big businesses (Miller, 2013). It has
to be decided what regulation will do the most common good in the long run, and this never been a
popular assessment to be required to undertake. The benefits such as educational assistance, life
insurance, or travel accident insurance are generally a matter of agreement between an employer and
an employee. In return for the increased wages some employers have opted to drop insurance
coverage plans or lay off workers to help and compensate for some of their losses (United States
Department of Labor).
Theoretical Model
Elite Theory
There are several different theories and models used in general politics and the creation of public
policies. These models and theories help to simplify the understanding of how some things work
(Kraft and Furlong, 2013). According to the Elite Theory perception the general public has little to no
impact on the regulation of public policies. All of the policy changing authority is within the elite
population. The elite theory stresses the fact that partiality is given to the governing body of elites
(Kraft and Furlong, 2013). The policy players in this group include financial

The Anzacs And The Development Of Nationalism In Australia...
The ANZACs were a significant influence in the development of nationalism in Australia during
World War One (WWI). Throughout WWI, Australian formed the fundamentals of the now universally
recognised Australian identity. The ANZACs played a crucial role in the establishment of a mixture of
both cultural and triumphal nationalism as Australia s exposure to other cultures during WWI saw
them no longer recognised as an extension of Britain but an independent group of competent men and
women that could equal their Commonwealth forefathers in the war effort. Thus, forming a distinct
identity and sense of nationalism that s significance, decades after WWI, remained strongly associated
with the WWI ANZACs.
Nationalism is seen to have two origins. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poem On the landing of Our Troops at Gallipoli by Joan Torrace, composed after the end WWI,
demonstrated a sense of nationalism when reflecting upon Australia equalling its forefather in the war
effort: Australia! ... all nations hail thee now . The poem depicts the British and Australia flags both of
equal size and focus. The poem states: hoist the ... union Jack ... and let the Southern Flag wave gaily
side by side. This poem show the authors connection between the events of WWI and seeing Australia
as an equivalent individual to Britain supporting the impact on WWI on Australia s nationalism. A
photograph depicts the Queen among her family commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Gallipoli
landing in the ANZAC parade demonstrating the British leaders respect for Australia fuelled by the
devotion of ANZACs in WWI. Finally, nationalism is still minutely evident in modern society on
cultural outlets. The popular song, We Didn t Start The Fire by Billy Joel devotes a sizeable proportion
of lyrics to American achievements, successful sportsmen, political leaders and references to mores
negative events of other countries. For example the song mentions America s first women in space:
sally ride, the American discovery of the polio vaccine and the violent and devastating separation of
north and South Korea.

objective of humanitarian intervention is to prevent mass violation of human rights and human dignity.
It has remained a compelling issue in international affairs because of its controversial character.
Although sovereignty has formed the basis of international relations since the Treaty of Westphalia,
events in the 1990s raised the impetus of the international community to place the protection of

Unlocking The Vault Summary
In the magazine, I read Unlocking the Vault an article by Carlin Flora. She depicts that people are
hiding secrets from others and most of all, themselves. Not all secrets are necessarily bad things such
as cheating, but could be information that the person can use as leverage. We keep secrets because of
shame and to avoid hurting others. Keeping secrets can be a destructive act towards not only you, but
of others as well. I believe this article definitely appeals to all modes of persuasion because it is
something that everyone has or will deal with some time in their lives. With ethos, people will look
over their values. Some will keep their secret from others because they value the relationship with
those group or people. Then you have

Descriptive Essay About Concert
Over the last four years, I ve gone to over thirty concerts for artists whose genres range from pop, rap,
and alternative. Since I m experienced with them, I m aware of the different price ranges and the stage
performances. After my first concert, I started working so that I could afford to have concerts as a
hobby. Even though I have gone to many different types of concerts, like pop, rap, and alternative, my
favorite kind to experience are alternative concerts.
My first concert was also my first time seeing a pop band. Every teenager loved One Direction,
including me, and dreamed of seeing them live one day. This experience meant a lot to me since it was
a band that I had loved for a very long time. The tickets were a gift from my mother, Melissa, and I
went with my sister, Melisvette. During that, I realized how happy concerts made me and got a job so
that I could continue experiencing moments like these. What I didn t want to experience, though, was
the price it was to go to pop concerts.
I wasn t worried about the price of tickets until I started paying for them myself. As a kid, I didn t
contemplate the cost since my mother bought them as a present, but then I started to realize how
ludicrous the prices could be. At the time, I was really into popular bands and artist, so the concerts
were always expensive. I bought tickets to see popular artists like Demi Lovato, Fifth Harmony, and
Twenty One Pilots, twice. These were the ones I spent the most money on and the seating was just not
worth it.
In 2014, I traveled to Cleveland, Ohio, to go to a Demi Lovato concert. This was the second pop
concert I ve been to and the first time I traveled a few hours for a concert. At the time, I was still new
to concerts, but I started to see a theme with pop concerts. They were always the most expensive
compared to others and the seats were never that great. For Demi, I spent over $150 to sit in a seat that
wasn t even close to her. Even though her concert meant a lot to me, because I looked up to Demi
Lovato, I just found it unfair how expensive these kinds of concerts were. Compared to other concerts
I ve been to; the popular artists were always the ones to put the least amount of effort into their
performances. Their

The Rights Of Women And Education
A sufficient education is something that Westerner s like myself, have taken for granted for a long
time. It s easy to, in all honesty, because we have been raised in a society in which education has been
held at the utmost importance. In the United States women are held at an equal level with men, we ve
fought for this sense of equality for several years and unfortunately, not all women across the world
have had that same success. Women from other countries do not have half of the rights that we do here
in the United States, and this is something that we seem to never really think about. Saudi Arabia is
just one of the many countries around the world in which the women do not have as many rights as
men do. Being a feminist at heart with a hunger for education, it piqued my interest to research the
rights of women and education in Saudi Arabia. If I m being honest, I had expected it to be much
worse than it is, yet it could be so much better at the same time. Saudi women should have every right
to educate themselves in any aspect they want, and though they have fought their way to gaining some
leverage, there are still necessary steps that need to be taken. Saudi Arabia is a country in Southeast
Asia with a population of approximately twenty seven million people. Of that twenty seven million
people, it is estimated that 30% of them are migrant workers. ( Saudi Arabia Demographics Profile
2014. ) The sex ratio of this country is about 1.21 men for every 1 woman, with the

Emergency Evacuation Planning
ABSTRACT:
Emergency evacuation is movement of people away from the place of accident/hazard immediately to
a safer place. This results in confusion and commotion causing more harm to people in and around the
place of accident/hazard. Thus, planning an emergency evacuation is a complex procedure which
includes routing evacuees, identifying shelters and exits, and designing traffic control. During such
catastrophic events, the evacuation routing models are vital to the evacuation planning problems.
Since, transportation infrastructure is a limited resource both in terms of directional accessibility and
capacity, it is worthy of well planning evacuation routes in advance so as to ensure a safe evacuee
routing decision and efficient utilization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When a disaster or incident occurs, evacuees start to panic in general and may compete for the egress
routes without considering others if no proper evacuation routes are planned. Movement of evacuees
may cause congestion on road networks in large scale evacuations. However, considering roadway
capacities may severely limit the efficiency of the evacuation, which will naturally force motorists
find ways to divert around the disaster event. People are constrained during an evacuation by the
capacity of the road network, which in turn dictates evacuation times. Evacuation planning therefore
becomes critically important and essential to foster emergency evacuation strategies in defining
feasible evacuation routes and their traffic impact on the existing roadway network for varied
scenarios of disaster events. Without it, an effective evaluation practice would be unlikely. Such an
evacuation planning modelling is a complex problem with routing evacuee behavioral and
management facets, identifying shelters and exits, and designing traffic control. The evacuees must be
routed to safety under dynamic hazard and traffic conditions. Any number of transportation problems
can arise during an evacuation. A central challenge in managing a regional evacuation is routing
people to safety. An efficient routing plan is valuable because evacuations routinely result in travel
demand that exceeds the available network capacity. In emergency planning, GIS is valuable to
provide the data required by the evacuation models. On the other hand, traffic simulation models have
been developed for simulating traveler behavior and vehicle movement process. Thus this learning
module explains the integrity between the GIS and Transportation Engineering in the real life

Hume s Problem Of Induction Essay
Hume provided an integral philosophical question analyzing the problems of causality and of
induction. Following Hume s claims, Kant offered his attempt to solve Hume s problem (or, more
broadly, the problems that empiricism faced). By carefully explaining what the problem is that Kant is
attempting to solve, then explaining vigilantly how Kant tries to solve it. Thus leading to a concluding
critical examination to Kant s solution, indicating whether it s successful and why or why not that s so.
Hume asserts that there is no form of good reasoning that leads to the conclusion that the future will
resemble the past, or that similar causes will lead to similar effects. Hume dedicated his philosophical
work trying to uncover the problem of induction, and his skepticism of causality. Hume s claims stem
from separating two asserts of knowledge as relations of ideas priori, meaning that they are certain and
it is impossible to imagine them to be false, they tell you about the meaning of words, knowledge of
truths and facts and matters of fact much of what the scientific community uses, there are craters on

Lifetime Bans Should Be Utilized in the NHL
For any professional athlete, there is a natural assumption of risk to one s physical well being. Players
are constantly honing their bodies in the weight room not just to become faster and stronger than their
competition, but also to protect against the injuries that can ruin a season (Barrabi). The National
Hockey League (NHL) was one of the last professional sports organizations to issue sanctions against
players who cause concussions and head injuries. Just in the past season alone, there have been a total
of 44 suspensions in the NHL (TSN.com). Many of these suspensions were assessed due to dangerous,
and sometimes intentional, behavior. To many people, these 44 suspensions occurring in the past
season may seem too excessive; compared to 2004, it is. However, the frequency of behavior resulting
in suspensions has increased over the past several years due to rule changes and a new disciplinary
council assessing said suspensions. Despite the change in rules, some still intentionally commit acts of
violence against opposing players. These players defense is that they are trying to preserve the
tradition and respect of the game by humbling new, arrogant players who unnecessarily show off or
target star players (Jones). Although preserving this tradition is expected and necessary due to the
violent nature of the game, many players let their tempers get out of control. Because of various

The Invasion Of Undo-Europeans In Ancient India
ndo Europeans in Ancient India About 1500 BC, India was invaded by Indo European people. These
people came from the area between the Black Sea and the Caspian sea. Between 2500 and 2000 BC,
many Indo Europeans migrated all over Eurasia. Some went to Europe and became the Romans and
the Greeks, some settled in Turkey and became the Hittites. Others migrated south east instead. Some
of them stopped in Iran, while others continued south east to Pakistan and India. The slow migration
did not arrive in northern India until about 1500 BC. In India, the Indo Europeans are usually called

Catherine Mcauley s House Of Mercy
Good morning Sister Barbara, Miss Danovich, faculty, families, and my Merion sisters. We are
gathered here today to celebrate the class of 2016, the last class to ever graduate in this gym. On the
precipice of such great change, I thought that nothing could be more appropriate than to look
backwards. When Catherine McAuley established her House of Mercy in 1827, the streets of Dublin
were stricken with illness and poverty. But I have always found it striking that there in the city, where
merely feeding the poor posed enough of a challenge, Catherine felt so strongly compelled to establish
a place of learning. Catherine once wrote: No work of charity can be more productive of good to
society than the careful instruction of women, because whatever ... Show more content on

We took them with our teachers, our parents, our friends and our mentors all of those people who we

How Does Mercury Energy Affect Ethical Behavior
The power disconnection by Mercury Energy resulted to the premature death of Mrs. Muliaga.
Though health specialists assigned to Mrs. Muliaga had only given her 1 3 years of life, she had defied
the odds and lived for over five years. When the news of Mercury Energy participation reached the
public, the media become awash with accusations of how the state owned Mercury Energy victimizes
its customers. Mercury Energy was accused on implementing capitalist principles in its operations.
Capitalism in business means that a company is driven to make profits. Mercury Energy disconnected
the Muliaga s power supply without determining the underlying issues that could have caused the
delay in payment. Mercury Energy was accused of ethical misbehavior by failing to overlook their
disconnection policy based on the patient s need for an operational oxygen machine.
The executives and management of Mercury Energy also came off as contemptuous, having
vehemently denied responsibility for the premature death of their customer. Mercury Energy as a
brand name suffered severely with the news of its involvement with the death of Mrs. Muliaga. As a

Scarecrow In The Wizard Of Oz
In the movie The Wizard of Oz, the scarecrow already had a brain, but he didn t know it yet. First off,
the scarecrow could talk, and to be able to talk, you have to have a brain. For example, the first time
the scarecrow appeared in the story he talked. He was still hanging in the corn field on his stick, and
he told Dorothy which way to go. She did not know who was talking because she could see no one.
This alone is a big reason. It is physically impossible for someone to talk without a brain because the
brain is what sends out the signals to tell your body to talk. Next, the scarecrow could skip and walk,
which is also impossible without a brain. In one particular scene from the movie, Dorothy, the Tin
Man, the Scarecrow, and the cowardly

China’s New Nationalism Essay
No one can deny from recent news that there has been a strong surge of Chinese nationalism, and that
this nationalism has turned heads in the international community. The nationalism that the CCP has
affected is taking on a life of its own. In its strategy of pragmatic nationalism, the CCP tried to blur the
lines between love of country with love of the state and governing body. What has resulted is a whole
new breed of nationalism that is very much independent of the Chinese Communist Party and in fact
has caused the CCP great concern. This new form of nationalism is much more vibrant, passionate,
virulent and uncontrollable than the government had intended with its post 1989 strategy of obtaining
legitimacy through nationalism. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The I am Chinese program was launched at Universities to make people proud of being Chinese and
also, of the Communist Party that was portrayed as the governing body that has contributed greatly to
the people of China. One experience so far in China that left a strong impression on my mind was a
visit to the Shaanxi museum of history. Our tour guide was a locally educated young woman in her
twenties. As she took us through the different periods of Chinese history, at every exhibit showing
some sort of tool or mechanistic contraption she would turn and say as you can see, the Chinese
people are very smart! She also recounted a story in which she was very offended that an American
made a comment that Chinese people are short, to which she replied yes, we are, but we have five
thousand years of history and culture! Both the richness and vastness of Chinese history was a huge
source of pride for her, as her slightly illogical response to the American s comment shows. In
retrospect, her age denotes that she grew up on the government s campaign in the 1990s to educated
students about China s greatness, to foster pride. At the same time however, China s battered history
with the West since the Opium war of the mid 19th century was emphasized to demonstrate how
Chinese has been constantly abused and mistreated by the imperialist powers. The CCP was portrayed

Who Is Victor Frankenstein A Hero
Would you classify Victor Frankenstein as a hero? No, no I would not. Frankenstein did some terrible
tasks to make the creation of the monster. In the end Victor doesn t like the outcome of the monster, so
he abandons it. Dr. Frankenstein was unable to actually tell the truth to save the life of his brother s
nanny when she is accused of a murder that the monster actually committed. The whole reason behind
Frankenstein creating the monster was to close the gap in his life from losing Elizabeth, but it didn t
make him a hero at all.
First off, Frankenstein is no way a hero, Victor could have treated the monster way differently than he
did. He could have made the monster feel equal and have some relevance to matter. Instead Victor
choose to treat it poorly, the monster did not asked to be created, he didn t choose it. It was not fair
that victor treat the monster as poorly as he did. Dr. Frankenstein is a man ... Show more content on

But he was only acting negatively because all of society was rejecting him, calling him names,
screaming and running away from him. How would that make you feel? Because being treated like
that can not make you feel better of yourself. Except when the monster meets the old blind man, that
man is the only one who doesn t run from and scream from him. Which is good, because even if you
are ugly on the outside, it s what matters on the inside.
Next, Frankenstein is not a hero because after creating the monster, he wants to destroy it because it
has taken so much from him as revenge. Frankenstein is unable to kill his creation and dies after his
life is destroyed completely. Why would Victor want to live his life trying to kill off something that he
made? Because the monster he created was not what he wanted it to be. Why would he want to create
life? Because he was mourning the loss of his wife to be. Frankenstein was overall a good man, he just

The potential profession I am going to pursue is Radiology. Radiology deals with taking x rays of the
body and diagnosing what you find wrong. How the radiology unit works is getting a patient and
having the radiologist technician take images of the body by using machines. Different types of
machines such as, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), and positron
emission tomography (PET), identify all the images being taken of the human body (Phillip Costello,

The radiologist technician takes the x ray of a certain part of the body needed for the radiologist to
interpret. The technician can write side notes about the patient while taking the x ray. After it is taken
they are given to the radiologist to interpret. The radiologist will then write a report or diagnosis of
what the x ray shows of the patient. These can show tumors, blood flow, and inflammation. The
radiologist writes this interpretation for physicians to read. They often give the patient a diagnosis.
After interviewing Dr. Clyde Helms who had worked at Duke Hospital of Radiology Medicine we
discussed how writing is important, what the diagnosis of x rays are mostly about and how long they
are. The most common topic is variable ranging from fractures to cancer. (Helms, 2014) The writing
of the interpretation can be multiple pages but is usually short. It is important for the radiologist to be
specific because the physician will diagnose the patient. During the day radiologists will have to
interpret a lot of scans of different parts of the body. Today technology helps speed up the process for
radiologists so they do not have to write, instead they talk into a microphone that recognizes their
voice and writes the information in the computer for them. The microphone isn t as efficient as the
radiologists want to be but it still helps in the end. The microphone isn t as efficient because it doesn t

John Winthrop And John Adams
John Winthrop and John Adams and their respective works were heavily influenced by their times.
Winthrop was a devout Puritan Christian that was escaping a persecuting king in the early to mid
seventeenth century. As a learned and religious man, he came to be the leader of this puritan sect that
was to establish a society unlike any other, free from religious corruption that his fellow people saw in
the Church of England, that would be a model community much like the Citty upon a Hill described in
the bible. On the other hand, John Adams experienced the tyranny of the British monarchy in a
contrasting way. This era was marked with worsened conditions for American colonists in terms of
economic and social taxations. Their literary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Winthrop s political theory developed from an early age. As a religious man, one would expect him to
be a preacher, but he found his calling through law and leadership. Because he was such a devout
Puritan, he was chosen to spearhead the project of establishing the Massachusetts Bay Colony, which
was originally purposed for economic uses. This changed when the group elected him as governor,
which altered the purpose of the colony to be more religious in nature. As a result, this group of
Christians made an exodus from the old world with the mindset of establishing a true Christian society
, much like the Jews fleeing from Egypt, as described in the first testament, book of Exodus in the
Bible. They felt it was not only a privilege but a duty of God, and as the metaphorical and literal hands
of God, to uphold the values of a true Puritan society. This cemented in him a purpose to erect a
community that would be that Citty on a Hill that is so famously quoted.
In his address upon the Arabella, Winthrop reasoned that a society cannot have liberty without certain
guidelines. Although similar to the social contract theory of Hobbes, who argued for a strong central
government to prevent the evils that humanity naturally expresses, Winthrop argued for a strong
government that would not only prevent the sinful ways of people, but to create an environment that
Christians could fulfill their godly purposes it its

The Confederate Wins and Losses
On April 12,1865 Confederate warships bombed the union at Fort Sumter in South Carolina and this
marked the beginning of one of the worst and deadliest wars fought in the world. It was a war that
only lasted around four years but yet took 620,000 of our brothers, sisters, and children with it.
Families were torn apart, sons had lost their fathers, mothers lost their sons, and whole towns lost
every man they had to give. A war that we fought on our land, a war that made brother fight brother,
killed almost as many men as every war America has fought since combined. At First the Union
believed they were going to fight at least a couple battles and it would all be over with, but oh was the
Union wrong. They under estimated the wholeheartedly fighting Confederate soldiers, the
Confederates were not going to give up that easily what they needed, what they wanted, and their way
of life. Between the battle of Fort Sumter a Confederate victory and the First battle of Bull Run anther
Confederate victory, there were nine other smaller battles many not large enough to truly be called a
battle. Of those nine battles three were won by the Confederates and two were inconclusive. At the
first battle of Bull Run, the Union still believed that this is going to be a very short war, they believed
it so much that spectators came and lined the sides of the battlefield to watch the Union smash the
Confederate Army. Of the spectators most we re just common folk or people near that community, but

How Leisure Reading Does More Harm Than Good Essay
Over the decades people have used leisure reading as a form of escapism, however people have
constantly debated whether or not such a method should be allowed. There are other ways one can
release tension and stress, and thus some people feel that such a practice can lead to faulty outcomes.
However, while some believe that it can cause more harm than good, experts have proven that leisure
reading is in fact beneficial. As such it, helps individuals to gain a sense of morality, strengthens one s
vocabulary, provides an easy way to release stress, learn new ideas and concepts, as well as connect
with characters.
In an article, Locked in Literacy: Why Reading isn t Always Good for you, Leo Robson explains how
leisure reading does more harm than good. While leisure reading may be seen as a form of escape into
another dimension, it in actuality could become more of a prison, designed to keep the mind trapped in
between the pages of a fictional world. There are other ways one could spend their time, for example,
there are talents to learn, and skills to develop. And even though reading has its uses gaining more
information on specific topics, scientific research, and cultural backgrounds it shouldn t be used as a
method to understand life. In fact, life should be the way to understand reading as writing stems from
the experience of others. Reading for pleasure should not be encouraged, as reading should only be
used to acquire information no matter how boring or uninteresting

Enlightenment Influence On The French Revolution
The French Revolution was a period of far reaching social and political change in France that lasted
from 1789 to 1799. Before the revolution there was a period of time called the Enlightenment. The
Enlightenment was a philosophical movement in which followers considered that human reason
brought a move from theory to practice and criticism to reforming education, household
administration, social reactions and politics. Voltaire, a French philosopher and contributor to the Age
of Enlightenment, expressed these ideas utilizing his intelligence, wit and style to mark his name as
one of France s greatest writers. The Enlightenment influenced the French Revolution to a great extent
by introducing new ideas that encouraged questioning of authority and religion, advancing people s
outlook on commodities, and forcing citizens to compare their need with the Republic s needs. This
further brought an uprising of people wanting more such as equality and civil rights. In the process to
do so there were 250,000 casualties in the Reign of Terror followed the Thermidorian Reaction which
implemented an oligarchy government called the Directory. Royalist riots prompted the Coup d etat of
Fructidor which brought Napoleon into Directory which he later overthrows and creates an
Authoritarian Republic. The ideas of equality and rights to men which were stressed by Enlightenment
philosophers are all incorporated into documents 1,4 and 5. Society before the French revolution was

Who is the Mockingbird? There are many ideas on who could be the mockingbird in the novel, To Kill

the so called mockingbird in the novel. Boo Radley is nothing other than a resident of Maycomb who

This quote is trying to say that when Jem went back for his pants they were fixed and folded neatly on

quote is when Jem is peeking into a tree he says, Tin foil was sticking out of a knothole just above my

often intimidated by the presence of critters and other creatures in the water. Remember that they
appear just because they are already scared by the way the area of their floating is disturbed, triggered
by the start of a mass open water swim. So, these creatures are trying to hide themselves in panic and
have neither the intention nor the power to cause you any harm

Salina Health Care Center ( Sfhc )
Introduction
Salina Health Education Foundation, founded in 1979 and Salina Care founded in 1991, merged in
2004 to form Salina Family Health Care Center (SFHC). Since the inception the clinic has served
Saline County with health and dental care for uninsured and low income residents. In addition the
clinic has provided residency programs for family medicine physicians for future roles as providers to
rural Kansas towns. In December of 2004 SHEF became a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC).
Following in 2009, SHEF transformed the practice into a patient centered healthcare home. Through
this work, SHEF redefined its mission to: provide excellent healthcare in a patient centered setting that
fosters education, all in a positive work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The following questions were answered in line with the 2013 CLAS Standards.
The Principal Standard: Provide effective, equitable, understandable, and respectful quality care and
services that are responsive to diverse cultural health beliefs and practices, preferred languages, health
literacy, and other communication needs.
Mrs. Mack replied this standard was a broad standard and went on to address each aspect of the
standard in great detail.
The effectiveness of the health care we provide at Salina Family Health Care is measured routinely.
For example, there is a health care plan that encompasses 16 different aspects of health care that we ve
determined to be important to our patient population. For these 16 goals we have 34 specific
interventions we ve implemented to help us achieve these goals. We receive a monthly report of our
progress toward meeting these goals which might include getting blood pressure readings below
140/90, catching women up who need a pap smear or encouraging smoking cessation in persons who
smoke. This health care plan drives our practice and the feedback we receive for our efforts guide our
practice daily.
The care we provide at Salina Family Health Care I would consider to be equitable. We provide
services to anyone who is alive, very simply put. We do not discriminate on the basis of gender, color,
nationality, residency status, ability or disability, or whether or not they can pay for

The Equality Act and Employment Detriment
The EAT demonstrates, that a worker is designated to deliver a claim against his current employer
claiming that s/he had experienced a detriment for whistleblowing, even though s/he was not an
employee of the employer at the time when s/he made the protected disclosure. The EAT takes a
prudent approach, asserting that the Employment Rights Act 1996 is competent of this analysis.
Detriment of disclosure to ex employer In the case of BP Plc v Elstone and Anor E worked as a senior
operations manager for BP for 25 years, left to work for P Ltd who had a number of contracts with E s
previous employer BP. While at P, E made a number of disclosures to BP managers relating to health
and safety concerns. E was dismissed by P on the grounds of having disclosed confidential
information. E was rehired by his previous employer BP but after finding out the reason he was
dismissed by P Ltd, BP told E that they would not engage with him at all. E claimed to have suffered
detriment as a result of making protected disclosures, opposing to Section 47B ERA BP claimed that E
s claim was not a legitimate action as he was not employed by BP at the specific time disclosures. E s
counter argument was that he could be a worker of any employee within reason, not just an employee
of the employer who caused the alleged detriment. It was concluded by the Employment Tribunal that
the employee has to be employed by the employer of the date the disclosure took place. This is a
reflection of the

Factors That Influence The Development Of Cerebral Palsy
Purpose The purpose of this article is to explore and gain an understanding of the factors that
influence the development of cerebral palsy in infants born prematurely and at term. Description This
article explores a number of factors that have been identified as well as what still needs to be done in
regards to establishing the etiology of cerebral palsy (CP). The author notes that there is still little
research (as of 2008) in regards of the environmental influence on the development of CP. The
research for CP in obstetrics has been led by Eastman and DeLeon since the mid 1950s. Their study
had 5 major findings that have been the basis for more current research. Their findings were that
although prematurity is a risk factor, the majority of CP develops in infants were born at term.
Secondly, placental abruption and cord prolapse, while dangerous to the fetus and uncommon, do not
contribute a major share to CP. Thirdly, while in the delivery room, half of the term infants that were
deemed in good health then later developed CP. Fourth, congenital anomalies can be attributed as a
cause of CP. Lastly, mothers who were febrile during labor increased the chances of their children
developing CP. The author goes onto to talk about how we (as doctors and researchers) know what we
know about CP. Nelson cites the development of neuroimaging technologies, helping with the
discovery of brain malformations as a contributing cause of CP. The author then delves into the

Homage To My Hips Analysis
Black women have played a vital role in society for centuries but rarely get credit for their actions.
Dating back to Ancient Africa, there were African queens like Amina, Hatshepsut, Makeda, and
Nefertiti who led their countries, combatted in war, left legacies with their kingdom, and most can
only be remembered for their looks as if their hard work were irrelevant. In the 19th century, there
were influential black women like Harriet Tubman, Ida B. Wells, Sojourner Truth, Mary McCloud
Bethune, and many more who helped fight the injustices of racism done unto their families
communities whether it was up to them freeing slaves, participating in marches and protests, or using
their knowledge to help educate the generation below them; the majority of society during that time
could not get over the fact that they were black women. Black women aren t supposed to be more than
their appearance.
Lucille Clifton, Black female poet, detests the previous statement with her powerful poem titled,
homage to my hips. Through the use of the title, the speaker, and symbol, Clifton expresses ... Show

She serves as a contender of black women excellence for using her voice to speak out on the
misogyny and dehumanization of black women in American society. In Words of Fire: An Anthology
of African American Feminist Thought, Guy Sheftall explains that there are five premises of black
feminism, included is the number one point: Black women experience a special kind of oppression
and suffering in this country which is racist, sexist, and classist because of their dual racial and gender
identity and their limited access to economic resources. Voices like Clifton can uplift and inspire the
black woman community to continue to fight for their dignity and humanity as the older generation of
powerful black women

Modern Day Self-Portrait
We started the day off by showing the students the slideshow on what is a self portrait. They were
extremely engaged answering questions as we moved through the slides. I started off asking them
questions about the first slide. Is there any artist they recognized? I snuck in one of my own self
portraits on the first slide to see if they could guess it was actually one I had painted. In addition, some
of the students were able to guess Van Gogh, Picasso, and Frida Kahlo. One of the students pointed to
my portrait and said it looked like me. It was fun because I replied back, yes it was me. We then went
into a discussion on what makes up a self portrait and how one could express themselves through a
self portrait. As we further discussed the self portrait I continued through my slideshow. One of the
topics was the difference between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the selfie, photos and Facebook photos, etc. We went over art elements and what specific
elements could we see in the self portraits represented on the slideshow. We continued to discuss how
the artists expressed who they were through their self portraits. Next the students and I talked about
how in order to improve on their artwork they would need to practice, practice, practice. I showed
them a self portrait I drew at their age and then one I painted not too long ago. During this
presentation, even though students were very engaged and surprisingly expressive with their answers,
I felt they were a little restless. I asked the students what could I improve upon with the lesson and
they suggested a worksheet they could use to follow along and remember the artists. The approach I
took by engaging the students in their educational environment is known as, progressive education.
According to Sadker and Zittleman (2012), The role of the teacher is to identify student needs and
interests and provide an educational environment that builds on them (p.

Theories Of The Utimatum Game
We consider a two player game, where one player (the proposer) makes an offer to split an
endowment/an amount of money between the two players and the other player (the responder) can
accept or reject the offer in an ultimatum game (but has no choice in the dictator game).
In an ultimatum game, if the other player accepts, the money is split according to the proposal and if
the other player rejects, neither player receives anything. As suggested by game theory, the only sub
game perfect Nash equilibrium of the game is the strategy pair in which player one offers zero and
player 2 accepts all offers. Rational responders should accept even the smallest positive offer, since
the alternative is getting nothing. In a large number of human studies, ... Show more content on

As per what the theory predicts (based on non cooperative game theory), the dictator will allocate
nothing to the receiver in a simple dictator game. When property rights are introduced in the dictator
game, dictator earnings treatment , we expect dictators to produce as much wealth as possible and give
nothing to the receiver and in the receiver earnings treatment, we expect individuals in group Y to
produce the lowest earnings level possible and the proposer to offer a higher share. (Spraggon, 2008).
Thus, this theory will be validated if we observe in the experiment that the give rate of the participants
fall in the dictator game when property rights are given to proposers. In that case, we will accept the
hypothesis.
In the ultimatum game, the responder will not be willing to accept low offers if he/she has earned the
money and the dictator will not be expected give zero amount knowing this. If the property rights are
with the proposer, then too, he will give be expected to give more to the responder than in a dictator
game, fearing that very low offers will make the partner reject his/her proposal. If we observe such a
behavior, then the expected theory is

  • 2. Freedom Of African American Freedom The fight for freedom is like drowning. Some people have been under the water for so long they are no longer conscious of their surroundings. Others try to resurface. Once we do resurface, we must never stop swimming or we will be dragged back under the dark, devastating water. The freedom we create for ourselves may change our lives, but there is always room for improvement in this ever changing world. In order to make the best for ourselves and our families, we need to liberate ourselves from these forces repeatedly as the pressure the controlling forces put on us becomes too much. Throughout history, different groups of people have been mistreated due to stereotypes. One minority group is the African American population in our country. For hundreds of years, America has limited the freedom of African Americans. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, African Americans were made slaves, because the Caucasian people who lived here thought of them as less of people than they were. In the Three Fifths Compromise , when deciding how many representatives should be for each state, they decided slaves were counted as three fifths of a person, an extremely insulting fraction. Buck has had enough and attacks Spitz with a vengeance. Francois and Perrault have to separate the two dogs. Although the fight is stopped, the animosity continues, and the two enemies are always in a skirmish. Then one day when Spitz prematurely kills a rabbit that all the dogs have been chasing, Buck attacks again. The battle is fierce, and Buck is losing. He then calls upon his intelligence and imagination to defeat Spitz. Instead of going for his throat, Buck attacks Spitz s front legs, breaking both of them. Once he is down, the other dogs come in for the kill. Now that Spitz has been eliminated, Buck is determined to become the leader of the dog sled team. Bortons Reflective Framework Model Using Bortons (1970) reflective framework model, I am going to reflect on an experience I have had whilst out in practice with the community mental health team in the North of England. Whilst on placement I noticed there were numerous referrals of individuals with personality disorder. Whilst in multi disciplinary meeting when we used to get these referrals I would very often hear people say typical PD or well there is nothing our service can do for them . At these times, I was concerned for the individual s welfare and when speaking to the services users myself, I found it difficult due to me having limited experiencing working with individuals who have a diagnosis of personality disorder (PD). Because of this, I have decided to look up possible research ideas regarding PD. To see if there was a different type of medications, therapies and other services which are available to individuals with varied diagnosis of PD. From my experience and observations of working on acute wards, I found that health care professionals aren t sure how to treat or mange service users with PD sometimes. Throughout WWI, Australian formed the fundamentals of the now universally recognised Australian identity. The ANZACs played a crucial role in the establishment of a mixture of both cultural and triumphal nationalism as Australia s exposure to other cultures during WWI saw them no longer recognised as an extension of Britain but an independent group of competent men and women that could equal their Commonwealth forefathers in the war effort. Even though I have gone to many different types of concerts, like pop, rap, and alternative, my favorite kind to experience are alternative concerts. My first concert was also my first time seeing a pop band. Every teenager loved One Direction, including me, and dreamed of seeing them live one day. This experience meant a lot to me since it was a band that I had loved for a very long time. The tickets were a gift from my mother, Melissa, and I went with my sister, Melisvette. During that, I realized how happy concerts made me and got a job so that I could continue experiencing moments like these. What I didn t want to experience, though, was the price it was to go to pop concerts. I wasn t worried about the price of tickets until I started paying for them myself. As a kid, I didn t contemplate the cost since my mother bought them as a present, but then I started to realize how ludicrous the prices could be. At the time, I was really into popular bands and artist, so the concerts were always expensive. I bought tickets to see popular artists like Demi Lovato, Fifth Harmony, and Twenty One Pilots, twice. These were the ones I spent the most money on and the seating was just not worth it. In 2014, I traveled to Cleveland, Ohio, to go to a Demi Lovato concert. This was the second pop concert I ve been to and the first time I traveled a few hours for a concert. At the time, I was still new to concerts, but I started to see a theme with pop concerts. Women from other countries do not have half of the rights that we do here in the United States, and this is something that we seem to never really think about. This results in confusion and commotion causing more harm to people in and around the place of accident/hazard. Thus, planning an emergency evacuation is a complex procedure which includes routing evacuees, identifying shelters and exits, and designing traffic control. During such catastrophic events, the evacuation routing models are vital to the evacuation planning problems. Since, transportation infrastructure is a limited resource both in terms of directional accessibility and capacity, it is worthy of well planning evacuation routes in advance so as to ensure a safe evacuee routing decision and efficient utilization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When a disaster or incident occurs, evacuees start to panic in general and may compete for the egress routes without considering others if no proper evacuation routes are planned. Movement of evacuees may cause congestion on road networks in large scale evacuations. However, considering roadway capacities may severely limit the efficiency of the evacuation, which will naturally force motorists find ways to divert around the disaster event. People are constrained during an evacuation by the capacity of the road network, which in turn dictates evacuation times. Evacuation planning therefore becomes critically important and essential to foster emergency evacuation strategies in defining feasible evacuation routes and their traffic impact on the existing roadway network for varied scenarios of disaster events. Without it, an effective evaluation practice would be unlikely. Such an evacuation planning modelling is a complex problem with routing evacuee behavioral and management facets, identifying shelters and exits, and designing traffic control. The evacuees must be routed to safety under dynamic hazard and traffic conditions. Any number of transportation problems can arise during an evacuation. A central challenge in managing a regional evacuation is routing people to safety. An efficient routing plan is valuable because evacuations routinely result in travel demand that exceeds the available network capacity. He was still hanging in the corn field on his stick, and he told Dorothy which way to go. She did not know who was talking because she could see no one. This alone is a big reason. It is physically impossible for someone to talk without a brain because the brain is what sends out the signals to tell your body to talk. China’s New Nationalism Essay No one can deny from recent news that there has been a strong surge of Chinese nationalism, and that this nationalism has turned heads in the international community. The nationalism that the CCP has affected is taking on a life of its own. In its strategy of pragmatic nationalism, the CCP tried to blur the lines between love of country with love of the state and governing body. What has resulted is a whole new breed of nationalism that is very much independent of the Chinese Communist Party and in fact has caused the CCP great concern. One experience so far in China that left a strong impression on my mind was a visit to the Shaanxi museum of history. Our tour guide was a locally educated young woman in her twenties. As she took us through the different periods of Chinese history, at every exhibit showing some sort of tool or mechanistic contraption she would turn and say as you can see, the Chinese people are very smart! She also recounted a story in which she was very offended that an American made a comment that Chinese people are short, to which she replied yes, we are, but we have five thousand years of history and culture! Both the richness and vastness of Chinese history was a huge source of pride for her, as her slightly illogical response to the American s comment shows. In retrospect, her age denotes that she grew up on the government s campaign in the 1990s to educated students about China s greatness, to foster pride. At the same time however, China s battered history with the West since the Opium war of the mid 19th century was emphasized to demonstrate how Chinese has been constantly abused and mistreated by the imperialist powers. In the end Victor doesn t like the outcome of the monster, so he abandons it. The whole reason behind Frankenstein creating the monster was to close the gap in his life from losing Elizabeth, but it didn t make him a hero at all. First off, Frankenstein is no way a hero, Victor could have treated the monster way differently than he did. He could have made the monster feel equal and have some relevance to matter. Winthrop s political theory developed from an early age. As a religious man, one would expect him to be a preacher, but he found his calling through law and leadership. Because he was such a devout Puritan, he was chosen to spearhead the project of establishing the Massachusetts Bay Colony, which was originally purposed for economic uses. This changed when the group elected him as governor, which altered the purpose of the colony to be more religious in nature. As a result, this group of Christians made an exodus from the old world with the mindset of establishing a true Christian society , much like the Jews fleeing from Egypt, as described in the first testament, book of Exodus in the Bible. They felt it was not only a privilege but a duty of God, and as the metaphorical and literal hands of God, to uphold the values of a true Puritan society. This cemented in him a purpose to erect a community that would be that Citty on a Hill that is so famously quoted. In his address upon the Arabella, Winthrop reasoned that a society cannot have liberty without certain guidelines. The research for CP in obstetrics has been led by Eastman and DeLeon since the mid 1950s. Their study had 5 major findings that have been the basis for more current research. Their findings were that although prematurity is a risk factor, the majority of CP develops in infants were born at term. Secondly, placental abruption and cord prolapse, while dangerous to the fetus and uncommon, do not contribute a major share to CP. Thirdly, while in the delivery room, half of the term infants that were deemed in good health then later developed CP. Fourth, congenital anomalies can be attributed as a cause of CP. Lastly, mothers who were febrile during labor increased the chances of their children developing CP. The author goes onto to talk about how we (as doctors and researchers) know what we know about CP. Nelson cites the development of neuroimaging technologies, helping with the discovery of brain malformations as a contributing cause of CP. The author then delves into the causative ... • 45. Homage To My Hips Analysis Black women have played a vital role in society for centuries but rarely get credit for their actions. Dating back to Ancient Africa, there were African queens like Amina, Hatshepsut, Makeda, and Nefertiti who led their countries, combatted in war, left legacies with their kingdom, and most can only be remembered for their looks as if their hard work were irrelevant. In the 19th century, there were influential black women like Harriet Tubman, Ida B. Wells, Sojourner Truth, Mary McCloud Bethune, and many more who helped fight the injustices of racism done unto their families communities whether it was up to them freeing slaves, participating in marches and protests, or using their knowledge to help educate the generation below them; the majority of society during that time could not get over the fact that they were black women. Black women aren t supposed to be more than their appearance. Lucille Clifton, Black female poet, detests the previous statement with her powerful poem titled, homage to my hips. Through the use of the title, the speaker, and symbol, Clifton expresses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She serves as a contender of black women excellence for using her voice to speak out on the misogyny and dehumanization of black women in American society. In Words of Fire: An Anthology of African American Feminist Thought, Guy Sheftall explains that there are five premises of black feminism, included is the number one point: Black women experience a special kind of oppression and suffering in this country which is racist, sexist, and classist because of their dual racial and gender identity and their limited access to economic resources. Voices like Clifton can uplift and inspire the black woman community to continue to fight for their dignity and humanity as the older generation of powerful black women ... • 46. Modern Day Self-Portrait We started the day off by showing the students the slideshow on what is a self portrait. They were extremely engaged answering questions as we moved through the slides. I started off asking them questions about the first slide. Is there any artist they recognized? I snuck in one of my own self portraits on the first slide to see if they could guess it was actually one I had painted. In addition, some of the students were able to guess Van Gogh, Picasso, and Frida Kahlo. One of the students pointed to my portrait and said it looked like me. It was fun because I replied back, yes it was me. We then went into a discussion on what makes up a self portrait and how one could express themselves through a self portrait. As we further discussed the self portrait I continued through my slideshow. One of the topics was the difference between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the selfie, photos and Facebook photos, etc. We went over art elements and what specific elements could we see in the self portraits represented on the slideshow. We continued to discuss how the artists expressed who they were through their self portraits. Next the students and I talked about how in order to improve on their artwork they would need to practice, practice, practice. I showed them a self portrait I drew at their age and then one I painted not too long ago. During this presentation, even though students were very engaged and surprisingly expressive with their answers, I felt they were a little restless. I asked the students what could I improve upon with the lesson and they suggested a worksheet they could use to follow along and remember the artists. The approach I took by engaging the students in their educational environment is known as, progressive education. According to Sadker and Zittleman (2012), The role of the teacher is to identify student needs and interests and provide an educational environment that builds on them (p. ... • 47. Theories Of The Utimatum Game We consider a two player game, where one player (the proposer) makes an offer to split an endowment/an amount of money between the two players and the other player (the responder) can accept or reject the offer in an ultimatum game (but has no choice in the dictator game). In an ultimatum game, if the other player accepts, the money is split according to the proposal and if the other player rejects, neither player receives anything. As suggested by game theory, the only sub game perfect Nash equilibrium of the game is the strategy pair in which player one offers zero and player 2 accepts all offers. Rational responders should accept even the smallest positive offer, since the alternative is getting nothing. In a large number of human studies, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As per what the theory predicts (based on non cooperative game theory), the dictator will allocate nothing to the receiver in a simple dictator game. When property rights are introduced in the dictator game, dictator earnings treatment , we expect dictators to produce as much wealth as possible and give nothing to the receiver and in the receiver earnings treatment, we expect individuals in group Y to produce the lowest earnings level possible and the proposer to offer a higher share. (Spraggon, 2008). Thus, this theory will be validated if we observe in the experiment that the give rate of the participants fall in the dictator game when property rights are given to proposers. In that case, we will accept the hypothesis. In the ultimatum game, the responder will not be willing to accept low offers if he/she has earned the money and the dictator will not be expected give zero amount knowing this. If the property rights are with the proposer, then too, he will give be expected to give more to the responder than in a dictator game, fearing that very low offers will make the partner reject his/her proposal. If we observe such a behavior, then the expected theory is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
