The Public Platform Address System Essay
During the Fire:
Staff who had a good knowledge of the available communications systems failed to make use of it or
make its presence known. Upon the discovery of the fire, staff failed to promptly call the Fire Brigade,
inform the station manager or line controller.
The public platform address system was not utilised, despite being fully functional. It would have
enabled staff to inform passengers during the emergency. It could be operated locally on each
platform, in the line controller s offices and in the ticket hall.
The only other means of communication for staff was the telephone or word of mouth. The LFB and
British Transport Police at the scene had handheld radios, which did not work between the surface and
underground. Radios could only be used underground if they were in the line of sight.
The Police requested that trains were not to stop at the station. Underground failed to promptly pass
on the message, consequently, trains with passengers were still passing through and stopping at the
station during the emergency. There was a major breakdown of communication between London
Underground and the LFB. There was no liaison or assistance from London Underground to the LFB
until 21.15 pm. The station layout plans were not recovered by the Brigade until 1 hour after arrival,
existing plans were misleading and inaccurate.
There was a breakdown in communications at command level between the emergency services. Each
performed their own duties in isolation of the

Precious Movie Essay
In this tragic tale, a young black woman grew up in a sexually, emotionally, and physically abusive
household without the support a stable adult. Precious grew up in the ghetto of Harlem, New York city
with her unemployed Mother. Her Mother was envious of Precious because her husband favored his
own daughter over his wife. In short, her mother s insecurities allowed her to be impregnated not once
but twice with her husband. While she was a mother she was also a target into bullying for her weight.
During all the abuse Precious felt a loss of control in her daily life. To put her mind at ease she
indulged in compulsive eating, and escaping into fantasy fascinations. These self destructive habits
gave her a short term satisfaction that she needed to survive. The movie presents a common theme:

mother allowed her to be sexually molested which is completely of Precious control. On top of this
she is also verbally abused which in the long term takes a toll on her self confidence. Daily, she is
criticized by her family, peers about her skin color and her weight. A common effect of being abused

society she sees beyond this. She is amused by sexuality and takes advantage of the opportunity Ms.
Rain gives her. The opportunity to heal from her abuse and become the person she is capable

Japanese Culture Shock Stereotypes Essay
Culture shock stereotypes I feel that coming to Japan helped break a lot of assumptions about
Japanese culture and also confirm knowledge I knew only from textbooks. The trip also made me
experience some culture shock but if anything it made the trip more interesting. I appreciated the irony
that was ever present. There were many customs both old and new I appreciated on the trip and helped
open my eyes to new experiences, observations, and interactions with people I normally would never
have a chance to meet. The Japanese people truly took elements of western culture and made it their
own.
One of my most memorable experiences was on the second night of Japan when we went to a baseball
game and the customs there are crazy Both teams were really into the game even when losing they d
chant wave their flags and dance or clap their hands. They blew up balloons we thought until they
burst but it was actually to let them go to make noise to cheer their team on. They dance and click

The better team both cheering and playing wise. However, I like rooting for the marine because they
were the underdogs. It was a great experience that helped me bond with other people in the group and
also let meet to know the Japanese people better than observing them in the daytime where they were
quieter and hurrying off to places and were generally reserved. They made sports games their

Cide In The Rocide Genocide
genocide the deliberate killing to eliminate of a group of people of the same race, religion or ethnicity.
This word is derived from a combination of a Greek word genos ( race or tribe ) and a Latin word cide
( killing ). In 1994, in the beginning of April, the same has happened in Rwanda. A genocide.
Before the colonial period in Rwanda, there were three classifications of people. Hutus, who made up
the majority of the population 84%, Tutsi who were only 17% and Twa who only made up 1%. Hutus
were from less privileged families and were cultivators, Tutsis were cattle herders and from rich
families, and Twa were potters and were outshined by the other groups (Stapleton 28). However, these
classifications were based on the number of cattle people owned. People who owned 10 cows or more
were considered Tutsi and people with less than 10 cows were considered Hutu. People could shift
from being a Hutu to a Tutsi or vice versa depending on the number of cattle they had. Before
colonization Tutsis and Hutus lived peacefully (Warren 19).
During the colonial period tensions from all corners, politically, educationally and socially were
created such that hatred and violence was harbored in Hutus and they decided to eliminate fellow
Rwandese, Tutsis. The existence of ethnicities itself did not lead to the Tutsi Genocide since they
existed even before the colonial era.
In 1914 after Germany lost all its colonies, Rwanda which was also one of Germany colonies was

Women In Medieval Europe
The Middle East consisted of Islam and Medieval Europe was Christian and both societies were
dominated by a powerful religious head. Medieval Europe had less intellectual achievements than that
of the Abbasids, whose dynasty was founded by his descendants. Yet Christianity was more
centralized than the Islamic. There are many comparisons and contrasts among both Islamic and
Medieval Europe societies in there statuses, genders, religions, and wealth.
First off, Medieval Europe had less achievements than those in Islam. Since philosophy was the
biggest intellectual achievement for Medieval Europe it mainly applied logic to the problems of
theology. Because of this achievement, it was important for which they established universities in

Medieval Europe was Christian and the Middle East consisted of Islam, both societies religion would

successor to the founder of Islam, Muhammad. Christianity s religious leader was and is the Pope,
who influences kings in the name of God. The Abbasid Dynasty was less centralized than Christianity
because the Arab clans (Sunnis and Shi A) could not agree on the rightful successor to Muhammad.
The church s hierarchy made Christianity more centralized and because the Pope was the leading
figure and under him were bishops that headed regional churches for the Pope. Yet again Christianity
was move involved with politic because they were not the only ones who appointed bishops but kings
were often appointing them as well. The Pope was a political power for kings because he was able to
influence many people from different kingdoms and united them. Although Islam s women were put
apart from being in the same service as men, in Christianity, women were allowed to take a part as a

The Critical And Conceptual Inquiry
In the early 1950 s, Ludwig Wittgenstein (1953) openly condemned psychology as a discipline
plagued with conceptual confusion, and rife with experimental methods that are often completely
irrelevant to the problems they set out to solve. Although written over half a century ago, Wittgenstein
s criticism actively reflects the distinct conundrum of modern day psychology, in which expeditious
empirical expansion is coupled with conceptual and theoretical turmoil (Hacker, 2007). Despite this
ambiguity, the advancement of contemporary experimental techniques continues to cultivate a naïve,
unjustified assurance in the status of psychology as a physical science. Openly condemning
metatheoretical psychologists , the proposition under scrutiny is directly representative of the common
neglect of philosophical investigation within the scope of contemporary psychological research. Irony
lies in the fact the critical and conceptual inquiry undertaken by such philosophical types is imperative
in the formation of factual, scientific theories (Boag, 2011). In this sense, I will argue that to label
metatheoretical psychologists as cowboy builders is absurd. They do not tear down edifices in the lust
for destruction as suggested by the premise at hand, instead, they play a much more important role by
providing conceptual critique in the hope of theoretical improvement and stability (Noaparast, 1995).
Abstract analysis such as this can prove helpful in exposing conceptual

Gatt And Its Eventual Development
Founded in 1995, the World Trade Organization (WTO) formally known as the General Agreement on
Tariffs and Trade (GATT) would officially commence in the late 20th century with more than 123
nations taking part. The intergovernmental organization, which was established to regulate
international trade, replaced GATT as of April 15th, 1994 following the signing of the Marrakesh
Agreement by more than 120 global nations, and was officially legitimized more than 20 years ago on
January 1st 1995 following GATTS s unsuccessful attempt in creating an International Trade
Organization in 1948 (WTO, 2016). It is of vital importance to understand the history of GATT and its
eventual development into what is known today as the World Trade ... Show more content on

It must be noted that GATT is not an organization, but rather an agreement among multilateral nations
eager to take part in global trade. GATT strived to remove the many boundaries and tariffs that
restricted nationals from trading. The smaller number of tariffs there were, the more trade would
occur; the more trade taking place between nations, the stronger a country would be. Though
originally intended to serve as a subsidy of the United Nations in 1947 during the UN Conference on
Trade and Employment in Havana, Cuba and as the primary regulator of multi national trade, the ITO
failed final support and approval particularly from the US Government. In 1950, the United States
Government Announced that it would not seek Congressional ratification of the Havana Charter, and
the ITO was effectively dead (WTO, 2016). This left GATT the sole multilateral institution to govern
world trade for half a century.
The General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade was negotiated and signed by 23 nations at the Palais
Des Nation in Geneva on October 30, 1947. GATT would officially legitimize on January 1st of 1948
and its founding members contracting parties included: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Burma, Canada,
Ceylon, Chile, China, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, France, India, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New
Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, Southern

Breast Augmentation Campaign
The 2015 National Clearinghouse of Plastic Surgery Statistics Report states that of the nearly 2
million plastic surgery procedures performed in 2015, almost 300,000 were breast implant surgeries
(breast augmentations). Dr. Farbod Esmailian frequently performs breast enhancement procedures,
including breast augmentations, for women residing in and around Orange County. In fact, many of
his patients reside in the city of Irvine.
WHY WOMEN UNDERGO AN AUGMENTATION MAMMAPLASTY IN ORANGE COUNTY,

This allows the implant to move around, which helps the breast look and feel more natural. After
creation of the pocket, Dr. Esmailian uses a special device (Keller Funnel) to insert the breast implant.
The Keller Funnel minimizes the strain and friction that occurs between the incision and the implant;
thus, improving the safety of this procedure even more.
Following breast implant insertion (and fill, when applicable), Dr. Esmailian will use sutures to close
the tissue that leads to the pocket holding the implant. He will then close the outer incision. His
experience allows him to use precise suture techniques that are designed to minimize scarring. Once
closure is complete, the breast augmentation surgery is over.
RECOVERING AFTER BREAST IMPLANT SURGERY NEAR IRVINE
Patients will experience some inflammation, bruising and discomfort. These symptoms usually
subside several days after surgery. As each patient is unique, specific recovery times and limitations
vary.

Stephen Crane s The Open Boat
While taking a cruise to Jamaica for vacations, the ship you are at starts to sink. How do you think
people in the ship would react to this scenario? Stephen Crane, an American author, wrote the story
The Open Boat . The story is about a boat sinking in the middle of the ocean with four men. The
characters presented by Crane in the story are a cook, an oiler, a correspondent, and the captain.
Although the story is narrated from the view of the correspondent; Crane gives the reader some
particular characteristics of the captain. The goal of this paper is to interpret the character of the
captain by discussing his actions, feelings, and quotes presented by Crane. A captain is an individual
who takes leadership and responsibility in a vessel. People think that a captain can just be found in
large ships; however, captains are necessary in any kind of boat, ship, or yacht. Therefore, in the story
Crane gives the authority to the captain. The captain is the one in charge in the boat and the one that
gives directions to the other three men. Throughout the story we can see that the other three men
respected the captain and his decisions. If the three men wanted to something, they would first
consulted with the captain before doing it. After the sinking of the boat, the captain was really
devastated because it was his responsibility and he fail. In the beginning of the story Cranes defines
the captain very sad and with the impotence of not being able to do anything. (Crane, page

An Analysis Of Amy Tan s Short Story Two Kinds
The Ungrateful Underachiever
The definition of an underachiever as stated by Webster is one (such as a student) that fails to attain a
predicted level of achievement or does not do as well as expected. In the short story Two Kinds
written by Amy Tan, Ni Kan is the queen of underachievers. She determines at a young age to become
defiant to her mom. After experiencing disappointment from letting her mom down, Ni Kan
determined that she would become an underachiever and intentionally failed throughout her life.
What makes a child determine at such a young age to defy her mom on every hand for the rest of their
life? The sad realization that Ni Kan would rather see her mother angry at her than disappointed in her
became her revelation. Anger meant that she was in control and not her mom.
And then I saw what seemed to be the prodigy side of me a face I had never seen before. I looked at
my reflection, blinking so that I could see more clearly. The girl staring back at me was angry,
powerful. She and I were the same. I had new thoughts, willful thoughts or rather, thoughts filled with
lots of won ts. I won t let her change me, I promised myself. I won t be what I m not. (2)
This shows the beginning of when Ni Kan realized she was not ever going to become a child prodigy
for her mom.
During the same week when I read the Amy Tan story, I was in the midst of a conflict with my own
mother. I was trying to decide where to attend graduate school after

With all of these things our world would start to die by the minute and that s exactly what happened in

1.Hierarchical or vertical organization structure: A hierarchical organization is an organizational
structure like a pyramid one or a group of people at the top who inform employee of policies and
procedures, point out problems that need attention, and offer feedback about performance; then the
subsequent levels of people below them, who stay in the bottom of the pyramid. This is the dominant
mode of organization among large organizations; most corporations, governments, and organized
religions are hierarchical organizations with different levels of management, power or authority. In
this traditional structure, the communication process flows through layers, employees receive their
works from direct manager, who interprets orders from the higher manager and employees send
information about their work back to the direct manager. This structure makes it easy to plan and
implement business strategies, that is, if employees stick to the established patterns of communication.
2. Horizontal or flattened organizational structure: A horizontal organization is an organization that
has an organizational structure with few or no levels of middle management between staff and
executives. The idea is that well trained workers will be more productive when they are more directly
involved in the decision making process, rather than closely supervised by many layers of

Compare And Contrast Football And Baseball
America s favorite sports is defined by many as either American Football or Baseball. These sports are
highly watched by Americans across the globe. Football, a hard hitting adrenaline filled sport.
Baseball, a strategic, simple and long lasting game filled with short times of excitement. Although
these two sports are thought of as America s favorite sport, they differ tremendously in rules of the
game, season length and the playoffs. First, the rules of the game. In football the goal is to have the
ball cross the plain of the opposing team s end zone. This can be done either by passing the ball to
players designated as either receivers or running backs, or running the ball on the ground with a
running back. Baseball on the other hand has a pitcher throwing the ball across the plate with different
speeds and curves. When a batter hits the ball he runs to the provided bases in sequence. Once that
player crosses the plate again he scores. To defend this from happening, players are in the ... Show

championship. Five games are played in the divisional and conference levels, seven games are played

Americas favorite sports. On the other hand these sports are very different in the sense of rules of the
game on scoring as well as defending. Season length in both sports differs from amount of games as

A designer s perspective on the use of lighting to manipulate mood within commercial and domestic

Through my research and writing, I would like to be able to conclude various techniques used, to
manipulate mood within a space, in relation to lighting. Over the years, research has been conducted
to deduce what sort of lighting should be used in specific locations rather than others, depending on
the mood altering necessities of a space. There are many principles I had not previously considered,
that are involved in creating good lighting within a space which go beyond the actual lighting fixture

Egyptian temples are a clear indication of this manipulation of light source. Temples do not exercise a
uniform form of lighting but a decreased intensity throughout the space, allowing time for the eye to
adapt along the way. Intense beams are used to highlight spots which were considered to be more
important, such as the statue of a pharaoh or important murals. Lighting was not introduced earlier
than the 17th century as a form of illuminating a specific space. The delay in development had
everything to do with the lack of scientific advancement at that stage and the misunderstanding of the
combustion process among other things. The first source of light developed to illuminate specific
areas was a lamp constructed by Francois Argand, which would later be known as the Argand lamp.
Essentially this was an oil lamp with a tubular wick, manufactured to facilitate situations such as
evening family gathering occasions and centrally situated light sources. This device was later
developed to solve under lit area problems such as stage lighting and street lighting which required to
be lit for specific lengths of time. The first competitor to this invention was introduced in the late 18th
century, also known as a gas lamp. This

Why Does Jane Austen Use Of The Gothic
Explore How Austen Makes Use of the Gothic in the Novel
Throughout Northanger Abbey Jane Austen uses gothic horror to describe main events that highly
influence the outcome of the novel. The book bases its whole plot around gothic horror but it s not
really a gothic horror but more of parody of a gothic horror.
At the very start of the book (pages 3 4) Austen introduces the character of Catherine. She uses
stereotypical characteristics from a normal Gothic Horror novel to somewhat tell the reader that
Catherine is remarkably none of these things. As the reader this tells you Austen portrays her as a plain
and unaccountable character with a very unremarkable life, not that of stereotypical heroine from a
gothic horror novel. She tells ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

writing a typical gothic horror story when she describes Catherin s apartment as altogether far from
uncheerful compared to Tilney s description with gloomy passages.
Whilst at Northanger Catherine discovers a high old fashioned black cabinet within her room a
rousing curiosity rouses within her and she investigates the contents of it. This is Austen once again
using the plot of something from within your average gothic horror story to manipulate Catherine s

How Did The Gold Rushes Affect Australia s Economy
Introduction
The gold rushes was a major event in Australian history. The gold rushes were important because it
shaped Australia s economy. The gold rushes started in 1851 when Edward/William Hammond
Hargreaves discovered gold in the New South Wales colony on the 12th of February. The gold rushes
made people quit their jobs with hope that they would find gold and become rich. In 1852 the gold

Homosexuality In F. Scott Fitzgerald s Benjamin Button
From Shakespeare s Hamlet, and predating further to Sophocles Peleus, the theme of a person being a
man once and twice a child is often explored in literature. This idea of infancy being repeated during
senility is consistently seen in F. Scott Fitzgerald s short story, Benjamin Button, as seen through the
protagonist s life. Unconventionally, the story begins with the birth of Benjamin Button as an old man
of around seventy as he is partly crammed into one of the cribs (Fitzgerald 2). This beginning of his
life is mirrored with his end, where he resided in a white crib once again (unable to come out),
creating a circular return of senile infancy to infancy (14). Button, as an old man, speaks to his father
in a series of cries to have his needs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an elder, Button is reliant on and under the instruction of his father, where he begins by [taking his

The effectiveness of banana stem juice as a natural coagulant for treatment of turbid water was
investigated. The main parameter studied was Turbidity. Coagulation experiments using jar test was
performed with a flocculation system where the effects of Turbid Water pH, Retention time as well as
Dosage of Banana Stem Juice on coagulation was examined. A Three Level Factorial Design in
Response Surface Methodology (RSM) using Design Expert software was applied in the model
analysis. Consequently, most of the actual and predicted values closely agreed with various regression
coefficients. The characteristics of the Turbid water was determined with TSS at 222 mg/L, turbidity
at 143 NTU and COD at 89.36 mg/L, BOD at 44.68 mg/L, DO1 at 11.7 mg/L, DO5 at 6.93 mg/L, pH
at 7, Temperature at 27.3°C. Turbidity reduction using Banana Stem Juice was achieved at pH 6.5

Cymothoa Exigua Research Paper
Cymothoa exigua is slowly becoming a widely known crustacean like parasite. Most people tend to
refer to this parasite as the tongue eating louse due to its evasion and reproduction mechanisms. This
parasite is only attracted to fish but most importantly the snapper fish. Cymothoa exigua is known as
protandric hermaphrodites because they begin as males and later in their life cycle they end up
switching sexes. When Cymothoa exigua causes the fish to lose its tongue, it does not entirely affect
the fish in any other way.
Life Cycle/ Reproduction
The life cycle of Cymothoa exigua is unknown but one thing for sure is that they undergo sexual
reproduction. Scientists believe that when the juvenile parasite first attaches to the fish s gills, they

Toni Cade Bambara’s Black Female Champions Essay
Toni Cade Bambara s Black Female Champions
It is well known from historical accounts, novels, poems, movies, and other sources that blacks have
been abused, neglected, and mistreated in American society. In addition, a great deal has been written
about the lives, hardships, and obstacles of black men.
Black women, however, have long been relegated to subordinate societal roles in relation to white
men and women and black men. Black women have been viewed as monsters and suffered distortions
of their image. Toni Cade Bambara, in her writings, has helped to change the image of black women.
Bambara presents a very descriptive picture of what life was like for blacks, particularly women, in

The following statistics illustrate Ms. Lincoln s point. According to the Statistical Abstract of the
United States: 1996, in 1983, 512,000 individuals were employed as cleaners and servants. Of that
total, 95.8% were female. Black females comprised 42.4% of the total of all females working in those
occupations (407). In the category of maids and housemen, in 1983, 531,000 individuals provided
these services. Females made up 83.1% of the total. Black females comprised 32.3% of the total of all
females working as maids (407).
Toni Cade Bambara was very aware of the black environment and of black female experiences. In the
foreword to the book Black Women Writers at Work, Tillie Olsen states that black women writers,
such as Toni Cade Bambara, make us profoundly conscious of what harms, degrades, denies
development, destroys; of how much is unrealized, unlived; instead of oppressed victims, they tell of
the ways of resistances, resiliences (x xi).

a teacher, lecturer, and political activist ( Bambara, Toni Cade ). In an interview with Beverly Guy

Workplace Discrimination At The Eden Prairie, Minnesota...
Workplace discrimination takes place when an employee is hostilely discriminated against for one or
more reasons, including gender, religion, age, sexual orientation, ethnicity or race. Per the Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission, racial discrimination comprises of treating a job candidate or
employee negatively because they are of a certain ethnicity or because of particular features linked
with their race, such as hair texture, facial features or skin color. While the law forbids workplace
harassment and discrimination in all facets of employment, from hiring and training to raises and
layoffs, the EEOC still reports thousands of claims a year. One such claim was filed by the EEOC in
the U.S. District Court of Minnesota against Alliant Techsystems (ATK), on behalf of Tyeastia Green.
EEOC v. Alliant Systems In 2012 Tyeastia Green applied for a job at the Eden Prairie, Minnesota site
of Alliant Techsystems. An IT professional, Tyeastia hoped to provide technical support for executives
of the aerospace and defense manufacturing corporation. Tyeastia was initially told from an ATK
recruiter that she had been chosen for the position, only to find out that she had been rejected after her
offer was withdrawn and given to a Caucasian man. Fearing that she had become the victim of racial
discrimination, Tyeastia Green contacted the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, who are in
control of imposing federal laws barring employment discrimination. The EEOC agreed with Ms.

The Effects Of High Compliance Rate On Municipal City Of...
Research Design and Methodology
4.1Introduction
The purpose of this study is to find out what are the causes of the high compliance rate in property
taxes in the municipal city of Portmore, Jamaica. Taxes are of essential importance to small
developing countries as they do not have much needed resources. As further developments takes place
in the municipal city property values will increase, hence the amount of property tax collected by the
Portmore municipal council will also increase. This increase however, is not a guarantee that the tax
collection will be sufficient in the maintenance of the community due to the rising cost of goods and
services. Hence continuous voluntary compliance is essential and important as it most efficient for
both the tax payer and the tax authorities.
This section gives the hypothesis or research perspectives, the design of the research and the methods
that were used to gather the data.
4.2 Hypotheses/ Research Perspectives
My research perspective on the Municipal City of Portmore attaining the highest compliance rate
property tax collections in Jamaica are:
That the tax payers have recognised the need and importance of property tax to the community.
The taxpayers are knowledgeable about property tax and the consequences if not paid.
The local authorities are ensuring that the community is well maintained by effectively and efficiently
using the tax collecting in providing services such as timely collection of garbage, maintaining and

Child Custody Battles
Custody battles over the child or children can bring the worse out of the mother and father but the
parents do not have to be the biological parent to get custody of that child. Fighting custody over a
child could cause a lot of tension between the parents but some custody battles can be beneficial for
the child if the child is getting abused mentally, physically or verbally. From my research when
dealing with child custody there are four different types of issues and those four have incommon is
that it s a custody battle over a child or children. The first type is legal custody where the parent has
the right to make decisions about the child s upbringing, The second type is physical custody where

money. Sadly they feel that the other parent does not do anything for the child so by awarding that
person in child support is a way of making them pay or and sometime the mom or dad wants to live
out off child support and because of that they most likely don t have a job. I feel that parents should
not have to go that far when it comes to custody battles because at the end of all the fighting there s a
child or children to think about and how the custody battles are usually never easy on a child or
childre. This is because the custody battle can create emotional conflict, academic stress, and other
social related stress factors for the child. When it comes to a custody battle, parents need to learn to

Children Need a Healthy Breakfast
How Not Having a Healthy Meal in the Morning affects Children America is often referred to as the
most developed country worldwide where everything is easily accessible to residents. Recent research
has shown that 50 million Americans lack access to safe and nutritious food in the home, 17 million of
which are children. A perfect example of this can be seen in the recent film, A Place at the Table
where. Rosie, an 8 year old girl living in Colorado expressed the difficulty that she finds in
concentrating in school due to stomach discomfort. According to Rosie she spends most of her time in
class fighting her cravings while uncontrollably thinking of apples, oranges and bananas. Rosie is just
one of the 17 million children who does not have desert at nights. Most times when you picture a
starving child, America is the last place to come to mind. Being one of the most economically
advanced countries in the world, America is said to be the land of dreams and opportunities and the
home of proud citizens. However, in the recent film A Place at the Table , this idea was tarnished. The
film sought to expose the presence of hunger in the United States through the documentation of the
life of Americans who are unable to afford food. Jeff Bridges took on the role of a devoted advocate in
the battle against starvation in America. The US Department of Agriculture s statistical findings

Summary Of Why I Travel By Alain De Botton
The short story by Alain de Botton, from 2002, takes place on the outskirts of Paris.
Firstly we are being presented to an elder French Duc, des Esseintes, who is our main and only
character. Des Esseintes lives by himself in a villa, and prefers to be alone rather than among others.
He rarely moves outside in public. Not since he once, in his younger days, went to a nearby village
which only made him detest people even more. Since then he has always been at his home. Until one
morning.
One day while reading a book by Dickens, the duc felt an intense desire to travel to London. He was
inspired by the book because it showed visions of the English life, which he wished to see and

Abraham Lincoln Freedman
Have you ever heard of Abraham Lincoln? Most Americans have, because he was one of the most
loved, and most hated presidents we ever had. He didn t start that way though. He was born in
Kentucky, in a one room, one window, hard packed dirt floor log cabin. He worked hard and was
ambitious, and over time he became one of the most well known presidents of the United States.
According to Russell Freedman, Lincoln was very ambitious and eager to prove himself.
In Lincoln: a Photobiography Russell Freedman claims that Lincoln was ambitious. Lincoln s family
was poor, so he tried to help them earn money. Then, when he was 17 years old, he got hired by a rich
old man to row his son down the river, On a twelve hundred mile flat boat voyage to New Orleans.
Lincoln earned 24 dollars for the three month voyage, which was a lot of money at the time. He must

it would take. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

English and grammar. Turning him from a boy who had a country accent to a man who could grab
your thoughts and turn them toward what he thought. This also opened him to the idea of being a
lawyer.
Lincoln was ambitious according to Russell Freedman. Lincoln became a lawyer in 1830, then he
joined Congress 17 years later in 1847. He was quickly rising out of the poor shop keeper business
into the political business. This reminds me of President Trump, a businessman with no political

COMANCHE INDIANS
The Comanches, exceptional horsemen who dominated the Southern Plains, played a prominent role
in Texas frontier history throughout much of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Anthropological
evidence indicates that they were originally a mountain tribe, a branch of the Northern Shoshones,
who roamed the Great Basin region of the western United States as crudely equipped hunters and
gatherers. Both cultural and linguistic similarities confirm the Comanches Shoshone origins. The
Comanche language is derived from the Uto Aztecan linguistic family and is virtually identical to the
language of the Northern Shoshones. Sometime during the late seventeenth century, the Comanches

the Edwards Plateau to the headwaters of the Central Texas rivers. Because of their location, the
Penatekas played the most prominent role in Texas history. North Of Penateka, country was the habitat
of the band called Nokoni, or quot; Those Who Turn Back. quot; The Nokonis roamed from the Cross
Timbers region of North Texas to the mountains of New Mexico. Two smaller bands, the Tanima (
quot;Liver Eaters quot;) and the Tenawa ( quot; Those Who Stay Downstream quot;), shared the range
of the Nokonis. These three divisions are sometimes referred to collectively as Middle Comanches.
Still farther north was the range of the Kotsotekas, or quot;Buffalo Eaters. quot; Their territory
covered what is now western Oklahoma, where they often camped along the Canadian River. The
northernmost band was known as the Yamparikas, or quot;Yap Eaters, quot; a name derived from that

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)
Important Reminders When Getting Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy [PART I]
Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) also known as natural hormone therapy works
when Bioidentical hormones act in the body just like the hormones we produce. It is primarily used to
reduce the symptoms of menopause. Today, it is also used for clinical testing of blood and saliva, for
anti aging purposes, and overall improving the quality of life for women who have symptoms of
menopause.
Bioidentical hormones have the exact molecular structure of those endogenous or natural hormones in
a person s body and produce the same physiochemical responses. However, only a few women
understand the importance of bioidentical hormones because they are mostly focused on the source of
the hormones rather than the effects produced. If BHRT is not given appropriately, it may lead to

The angles that women should know are these three (3) important reminders, especially when talking
about covering hormone supplementation.
Reminder #1 Choose BHRT when you are truly deficient with hormones
This is common sense. You should not take insulin when you still have enough. Some women get
paranoid over the notion that they are reaching 40 and that means menopause and menopause mean
you become estrogen deficient. Yes, we understand that you do not want them to leave the building.
But BHRT is for people who have the hormone deficiency.
The typical assumption of the conventional medicine is that women after menopause become deficient
with estrogen; however, this assumption is false. However, all credible experts agree that over 66% of
women ages 80 and up still continue to make all the estrogen they need. Because of an aromatase
enzyme, women still make estrogen even with the ovaries removed.
You would know that you have enough estrogen in the body when:

The Degree Of Mba Degree
There is controversy in the added value a student gets out of a degree in Masters of Business
Administration (MBA). Experts outside of the field argue that the MBA degree program provides
courses for students, but that the courses are not teaching the students skills that they need for the
field. Chris Roebuck says that MBA School graduates educated bad leaders, (62). Jeffrey Pfeffer; a
professor of organizational behavior says that not all successful business leaders have an MBA degree
(12). Supporting professor Pfeffer, Charles Haddad mentions that successful businessmen have made a
career without a degree in MBA. For example, Bill Gates and Ted Turner say they didn t bother with
the degree because over a span of years the degree lessens in value (12). Attaining an MBA degree has
better benefits than those who don t because a degree ensures that you are qualified and skillful in
doing your job. Having an MBA degree enhances management practice because it gives you tools that
prepare you for the field, a broader perspective on how business is run, and enriches your learning
experience by networking with peers of various disciplines. MBA programs are designed to prepare,
and enhance managers for difficulties they might find in the field. Having an MBA gives the manager
a broader perspective on the business as a whole, and allows more strategic decisions that will
ultimately impact the bottom line. Studies suggest that for most managers, the MBA program was seen

The Classical Music And Jazz

ILAC Pathway 3
25 September 2015 Classical music and Jazz
What people come up with when they hear the words classical music is a big concert hall, while what
people come up with is a small bar or something when they hear jazz . It seems they are different as
they are named differently, but are they really different? Also, given that the mainstream in the music
industry is popular music, both classical music and jazz are not appreciated by many people, but how
have these two music survived up until today?
Firstly, it is necessary to look back into their histories in order to understand how they have developed.
Classical music dates back more than one thousand years ago, which is called Medieval era and was
succeeded by Renaissance era. And then when it entered Baroque era, where the father of music
Johann Sebastian Bach thrived, there were the forms of classical music that are similar to something
which is often heard today. However, in these old eras, classical music was a liturgical music. It was
played mostly in a church. Also, it was favored by royals or aristocrats. Even Bach was hired by some
aristocrats and composed great works for them. When it reached the eighteenth century, although
classical music was still ecclesiastical music, classical music became popularized due to concerts and
recitals. And then it entered Impressionist era, suggestion and atmosphere came to the foreground as
important factors. The word

Leibniz Evil
The Problem of Evil
When talking about the existence of God there is always this problem of evil in the world. The people
who already believe tend to not answer the question with anything very satisfying for a nonbeliever. In
Leibnizs God, Evil and The Best of All Possible Worlds it is best addressed that there are the question
of why God is allowing such evil in the world. Where as Saint Anselm doesn t even acknowledge that
God is anything but great. However, both of their arguments are still not to par for anyone looking for
answers to the question of Evil.
Anselm s Ontological Argument has five parts to explain why someone should believe in god. None of

For someone to believe in god he has to already believe in god. The argument is not convincing. When
Gotteried Leibniz makes his argument about god he at least acknowledges the evil in the world. He
gives reasoning and answers to the questions people have with the evil in the world. This problem of
evil is hard to get through for anyone who has experienced hardship or pain. The omnipotent god that
is referred to is one who is all knowing, powerful and good yet he made a world without those
qualities. His answer was that evil is accompanied by a greater good. (pg.89) the second part of his
argument discusses the amount of evil in the world. His answer to this was god in infinite and so is his
goodness whereas evil in finite and will not carry into our after life. (pg.90)
For him to say that there could possibly be more good than evil in absurd because how could he know
this. Then to assume that the goodness will be infinite we have to assume there is an afterlife that we
will be conscious for. These arguments are based on the fact that someone already believes in god so
they do work in favor of the argument he is trying to provide. Both Leibniz and Anselm offer
arguments that only work if you already believe and do nothing for people who do not believe in the

fruits, vegetables, plants, flowers, or trees. When most people think of horticulture, they simply think
of gardening or farming. Most people do not associate horticulture with culture itself or how

(Carvalho et al. 1989:239) The Yanomamo Indians of the Amazon rain forest are organized by

tale was that of King Agamemnon, who was also fighting in the Trojan War and wanted to see his wife
Clytemnestra. However, when he returned Agamemnon might have found himself in a position that he
shouldn t have returned home to. Both of these stories tell tales about the epic war for the city of Troy,
however the fate of these two great leaders was vastly different when they returned home. The Trojan
War began when the Trojan Prince Paris stole the heart of Helen, the wife of King Menelaus of Sparta,
and the two of them returned back to try to be married. Menelaus was not going to take this act of

brother of Menelaus and the two of them formed an alliance against the people and leaders of Troy.
When the dust settled many familiar faces were dead including Achilles, Ajax, and Paris. King

Upon the discovery of the fire, staff failed to promptly call the Fire Brigade, inform the station manager or line controller. The public platform address system was not utilised, despite being fully functional. It would have enabled staff to inform passengers during the emergency. It could be operated locally on each platform, in the line controller s offices and in the ticket hall. The only other means of communication for staff was the telephone or word of mouth. The LFB and British Transport Police at the scene had handheld radios, which did not work between the surface and underground. Radios could only be used underground if they were in the line of sight. The Police requested that trains were not to stop at the station. Underground failed to promptly pass on the message, consequently, trains with passengers were still passing through and stopping at the station during the emergency. There was a major breakdown of communication between London Underground and the LFB. There was no liaison or assistance from London Underground to the LFB until 21.15 pm. The station layout plans were not recovered by the Brigade until 1 hour after arrival, existing plans were misleading and inaccurate. On top of this she is also verbally abused which in the long term takes a toll on her self confidence. Daily, she is criticized by her family, peers about her skin color and her weight. A common effect of being abused is a term called learned helplessness which the victim believes they have no power in any given situation. • 4. Japanese Culture Shock Stereotypes Essay Culture shock stereotypes I feel that coming to Japan helped break a lot of assumptions about Japanese culture and also confirm knowledge I knew only from textbooks. The trip also made me experience some culture shock but if anything it made the trip more interesting. I appreciated the irony that was ever present. There were many customs both old and new I appreciated on the trip and helped open my eyes to new experiences, observations, and interactions with people I normally would never have a chance to meet. The Japanese people truly took elements of western culture and made it their own. One of my most memorable experiences was on the second night of Japan when we went to a baseball game and the customs there are crazy Both teams were really into the game even when losing they d chant wave their flags and dance or clap their hands. They blew up balloons we thought until they burst but it was actually to let them go to make noise to cheer their team on. They dance and click sticks together in time to rally their teams fighting spirit. It was Tiger s vs Marines and the Tigers were The better team both cheering and playing wise. However, I like rooting for the marine because they were the underdogs. It was a great experience that helped me bond with other people in the group and also let meet to know the Japanese people better than observing them in the daytime where they were quieter and hurrying off to places and were generally reserved. This word is derived from a combination of a Greek word genos ( race or tribe ) and a Latin word cide ( killing ). In 1994, in the beginning of April, the same has happened in Rwanda. A genocide. Before the colonial period in Rwanda, there were three classifications of people. Hutus, who made up the majority of the population 84%, Tutsi who were only 17% and Twa who only made up 1%. Hutus were from less privileged families and were cultivators, Tutsis were cattle herders and from rich families, and Twa were potters and were outshined by the other groups (Stapleton 28). However, these classifications were based on the number of cattle people owned. People who owned 10 cows or more were considered Tutsi and people with less than 10 cows were considered Hutu. People could shift from being a Hutu to a Tutsi or vice versa depending on the number of cattle they had. Before colonization Tutsis and Hutus lived peacefully (Warren 19). During the colonial period tensions from all corners, politically, educationally and socially were created such that hatred and violence was harbored in Hutus and they decided to eliminate fellow Rwandese, Tutsis. The existence of ethnicities itself did not lead to the Tutsi Genocide since they existed even before the colonial era. • 7. The Critical And Conceptual Inquiry In the early 1950 s, Ludwig Wittgenstein (1953) openly condemned psychology as a discipline plagued with conceptual confusion, and rife with experimental methods that are often completely irrelevant to the problems they set out to solve. Although written over half a century ago, Wittgenstein s criticism actively reflects the distinct conundrum of modern day psychology, in which expeditious empirical expansion is coupled with conceptual and theoretical turmoil (Hacker, 2007). Despite this ambiguity, the advancement of contemporary experimental techniques continues to cultivate a naïve, unjustified assurance in the status of psychology as a physical science. Openly condemning metatheoretical psychologists , the proposition under scrutiny is directly representative of the common neglect of philosophical investigation within the scope of contemporary psychological research. Irony lies in the fact the critical and conceptual inquiry undertaken by such philosophical types is imperative in the formation of factual, scientific theories (Boag, 2011). In this sense, I will argue that to label metatheoretical psychologists as cowboy builders is absurd. They do not tear down edifices in the lust for destruction as suggested by the premise at hand, instead, they play a much more important role by providing conceptual critique in the hope of theoretical improvement and stability (Noaparast, 1995). It must be noted that GATT is not an organization, but rather an agreement among multilateral nations eager to take part in global trade. GATT strived to remove the many boundaries and tariffs that restricted nationals from trading. The smaller number of tariffs there were, the more trade would occur; the more trade taking place between nations, the stronger a country would be. Though originally intended to serve as a subsidy of the United Nations in 1947 during the UN Conference on Trade and Employment in Havana, Cuba and as the primary regulator of multi national trade, the ITO failed final support and approval particularly from the US Government. In 1950, the United States Government Announced that it would not seek Congressional ratification of the Havana Charter, and the ITO was effectively dead (WTO, 2016). What makes a child determine at such a young age to defy her mom on every hand for the rest of their life? The sad realization that Ni Kan would rather see her mother angry at her than disappointed in her became her revelation. Anger meant that she was in control and not her mom. The effectiveness of banana stem juice as a natural coagulant for treatment of turbid water was investigated. The main parameter studied was Turbidity. Coagulation experiments using jar test was performed with a flocculation system where the effects of Turbid Water pH, Retention time as well as Dosage of Banana Stem Juice on coagulation was examined. A Three Level Factorial Design in Response Surface Methodology (RSM) using Design Expert software was applied in the model analysis. Consequently, most of the actual and predicted values closely agreed with various regression coefficients. The characteristics of the Turbid water was determined with TSS at 222 mg/L, turbidity at 143 NTU and COD at 89.36 mg/L, BOD at 44.68 mg/L, DO1 at 11.7 mg/L, DO5 at 6.93 mg/L, pH at 7, Temperature at 27.3°C. • 27. Cymothoa Exigua Research Paper Cymothoa exigua is slowly becoming a widely known crustacean like parasite. Most people tend to refer to this parasite as the tongue eating louse due to its evasion and reproduction mechanisms. This parasite is only attracted to fish but most importantly the snapper fish. Cymothoa exigua is known as protandric hermaphrodites because they begin as males and later in their life cycle they end up switching sexes. When Cymothoa exigua causes the fish to lose its tongue, it does not entirely affect the fish in any other way. Life Cycle/ Reproduction The life cycle of Cymothoa exigua is unknown but one thing for sure is that they undergo sexual reproduction. In addition, a great deal has been written about the lives, hardships, and obstacles of black men. Black women, however, have long been relegated to subordinate societal roles in relation to white men and women and black men. Black women have been viewed as monsters and suffered distortions of their image. Toni Cade Bambara, in her writings, has helped to change the image of black women. Workplace discrimination takes place when an employee is hostilely discriminated against for one or more reasons, including gender, religion, age, sexual orientation, ethnicity or race. Research Design and Methodology 4.1Introduction The purpose of this study is to find out what are the causes of the high compliance rate in property taxes in the municipal city of Portmore, Jamaica. Taxes are of essential importance to small developing countries as they do not have much needed resources. As further developments takes place in the municipal city property values will increase, hence the amount of property tax collected by the Portmore municipal council will also increase. This increase however, is not a guarantee that the tax collection will be sufficient in the maintenance of the community due to the rising cost of goods and services. Hence continuous voluntary compliance is essential and important as it most efficient for both the tax payer and the tax authorities. This section gives the hypothesis or research perspectives, the design of the research and the methods that were used to gather the data. 4.2 Hypotheses/ Research Perspectives My research perspective on the Municipal City of Portmore attaining the highest compliance rate property tax collections in Jamaica are: That the tax payers have recognised the need and importance of property tax to the community. The taxpayers are knowledgeable about property tax and the consequences if not paid. The local authorities are ensuring that the community is well maintained by effectively and efficiently using the tax collecting in providing services such as timely collection of garbage, maintaining and ...
