Decline And Rise Of Traditional Medicine
The Decline and Rise of Traditional Medicine
In his book The Inconvenient Indian, Thomas King makes reference to the greatly reduced
populations of the indigenous population caused by the arrival of western diseases. In this essay I
intend to explore the ways in which the trajectory of the first nation s community was forever changed
not just by the effects of land appropriation but also by other side effects of colonisation. I want to
review how the traditional methods of health care, which had serviced the indigenous population for
centuries, were challenged by the onslaught of new diseases and later pushed underground by the
government s assimilation attempts and how they have survived these challenges to meet the needs of
modern day indigenous Canadians.
In an early copy of The Scientific Monthly, Dr. Hrdlicka of the Smithsonian Institute, was quoted as
saying that before its discovery by Columbus, America was one of the most healthful of continents, if
not the most so. This health status could be attributed to the lifestyle of the indigenous people, their
food varying according to the locality where they lived, was meat, fish, vegetables (often eaten raw),
nuts, seeds and fruits. Few areas had all these possibilities but, since Indians ate every part of an
animal and every edible plant in their locality, they came close an optimal diet. Traditional healers or
medicine men as they became known to non indigenous people were an integral part of the indigenous

ISSUE: Should LOI recognize an asset retirement obligation for each of the categories of warehouses
with asbestos?
BRIEF BACKGROUND OF COMPANY
Lack of Information (LOI) owns and operates 50 warehouses throughout the country. As part of LOI s
efforts to identify potential asset retirement obligations, LOI s internal audit group held interviews
with all 50 of the warehouse managers and also performed site visits at each of the 50 locations.
KEY CONSIDERATIONS INVOLVED IN THE ACCOUNTING QUESTIONS
1. Should LOI recognize an asset retirement obligation for the two warehouses in states with special
asbestos handling and disposal laws?
2. Should LOI recognize an asset retirement obligation for the ten warehouses that will likely be sold
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The state laws requiring the removal of the asbestos upon significant renovation or demolition of the
warehouses and the contracts requiring removal of the asbestos at the option of the buyer do not relate
to the other than normal operation of the warehouses. As such, these requirements represent
obligations that are within the scope of Subtopic. Recognition of an asset retirement obligation under
ASC 410 20 requires an entity to be able to reasonably estimate the fair value of the obligation. Per
ASC 410 20 25 4: An entity shall recognize the fair value of a liability for an asset retirement
obligation in the period in which it is incurred if a reasonable estimate of fair value can be made.
QUESTION 2
The state laws requiring LOI to remove the asbestos create an obligation to remove the asbestos under
ASC 410 20 15 2a for the ten warehouses that LOI will sell within five years. ASC 410 20 25 8b
indicates that an asset retirement obligation is estimable if all of the following exist:
The settlement date or the range of potential settlement dates
The method of settlement or potential methods of settlement (The term potential methods of
settlement refers to methods of settling the obligation that are currently available to the entity.
Therefore, uncertainty about future methods yet to be developed would not prevent the entity from

The Definition Of Piety In Plato s Euthyphro
In this essay I will discuss Plato s Euthyphro. I will discuss the dialogue that happens between the
characters in the text. In the text both characters struggle to come to an agreement as to what the
definition of piety is. I will give a few examples of the definitions Euthyphro offers Socrates. Socrates
rejected some of Euthyphro s definitions for piety. I will explain why Socrates rejected some of the
definitions. I will analyze Socrates understanding of morality based upon his conversation with
Euthyphro. I will decide whether or not his theory is subjective or objective. I will also determine
what the foundation of morality in his theory is.
The Euthyphro begins with Euthyphro and Socrates. There is a dialogue between the two of them. ...

Socrates ask what is the pious (Socrates 5). Euthyphro offers his first definition of piety. He basically
says that what he is doing is pious. It is pious to prosecute the wrong doers and it is impious not to.
Socrates rejects his definition by saying that the definition that Euthyphro offered is an example rather
than a definition. Euthyphro then offers his second definition of piety. Euthyphro then states What is
dear to the Gods is pious, what is not dear to the Gods is impious ( Euthyphro 6). Socrates rejects this
definition by basically saying that all the Gods won t approve of what is pious and impious. Euthyphro
offers the next definition which basically says that if all of the Gods think it is pious then it is pious
and all of Gods don t think it is pious then it is impious. Socrates rejects this idea by basically saying
that it can not be a definition because it still does not give an essence of what piety is. sEuthyphro
offers many more definitions of what piety could be. Socrates and Euthyphro can not come to an
agreement as to what the definition of piety is. In the end of the dialogue Euthyphro has an angrier
tone of voice. You can conclude that he was starting to get annoyed with Socrates constant questions.
He then tells Socrates that he is in a rush and he has to leave. The dialogue ends with no true
definition of what piety

Weather In The Great Gatsby
Weather in the book is used to convey a multitude of things, but rain in particular symbolizes some
sort of melancholy. Each time rain appears throughout the book, it sets the scene and adds to the mood
of the situation, recurring numerous times in order to solidify that symbolic relationship. One time
when the rain is prevalent is when Daisy and Gatsby first reunite. Their initial meeting is awkward
and forced, thus the rain was falling. This allows the reader to not only understand the predicament to
a greater extent, but also to visualize it. It had been five years since they were last together, and in that,
the rain represents the despair left over from their time apart. After they became more comfortable

How The Supply Chain Has Evolved Over The Years
The supply chain has evolved over the years. With new businesses that are on the rise in the
competitive world it is important to stay on top. Different merchants create better deals that cause
relationships between the suppliers and their customers to the end. I wanted to explore those
relationships and research the history of the supply chain . I wanted to know how things were ran and
how they are able to sustain business when the economy changes.
How supply chain management has evolved In the 1940s and 1950s, the focus of logistics research
was on how to use mechanization (e.g., pallets and pallet lifts) to improve the very labor intensive
processes of material handling and how to take better advantage of space using racking and better
warehouse design and layout. The unit load concept gained popularity and the use of pallets became
widespread. In the mid 1950s, this concept was extended to transportation management with the
development of inter modal containers together with ships, trains, and trucks to handle these
containers. By the 1960s, a clear trend had developed in shifting more time dependent freight
transportation to truck rather than rail. This led to the need for joint consideration of warehousing,
material handling, and freight transportation, which emerged under the label of Physical Distribution.
Since the 1980s, computer technology has advanced at such a phenomenal rate that it is currently far
ahead of the ability of the supply and logistics field

Riding The City Bus Essay
Getting Around the GSO: Riding the City Bus in Greensboro
Typical, it is 7:31 am Monday morning and I am running late. Knowing it will take approximately
twenty minutes for me to make it to 8:00 am lecture on time, I grab my book bag hastily lock my
apartment door and fly down the slightly stained cement stairs. In less than sixty seconds, I
miraculously made it from the third to the first floor without falling. I congratulate myself and hop in
my old reliable dusty gray, 2011 Toyota. At last, I arrive to campus just in time to park in the closest
lot near the School of Nursing building making it to my first lecture of the day with ten minutes to
spare. This seems like a small and normal morning routine for some, for others who do not have ...

Members of the community may need to walk a longer distance if they stay in an area that is not near
a bus route. The neighborhood I stay in has about six bus stops, all within a five to ten minute walk
from my apartment. The bus stops offer little protection from adverse weather or even a bench to sit
on while waiting for the bus. I can image the difficulties a person in poor health, a person caring for
small children, or an older adult may have while waiting on a bus. According to the GTA website, only
the most frequently used bus stops will have a bench and shelter for those waiting (Greensboro Transit
Authority, 2017). While some stops are not the most accommodating, the bus does have a high tech
feature that lowers the bus closer to the ground for the passengers that need extra assistance, and the
front of the bus reserve seats for handicap passengers. The availability of the GTA buses depends on
the time, location, and day of the week. For instance, the route one, Bridford Place Stop, is available
from 5:15 am to 11:58 pm, Monday through Friday (Greensboro Transit Authority, 2017). On
Saturdays the bus is available from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. Bus routes on Sunday are limited to 6:00 am

Nancy in Charles Dickens Oliver Twist Essay
Nancy in Charles Dickens Oliver Twist
London in the 19th century was a heavily packed city where the rich and poor rubbed shoulders daily.
Charles Dickens lived there most of his life, growing from a poor child to a publicly famous, but often
privately troubled, writer. The city shaped his life it also patterns his work in complex and fascinating
ways. The novels picture this great city vividly. It can also be seen to be used as a symbolic map
through which human relationships of all kinds are explored.
This description of Oliver Twist may also capture the haunting childhood of its author, Charles
Dickens. Feeling alone in the world at the age of 12, Dickens saw firsthand the horrors Victorian ...

The Impact of Recording Technology on Music Essay
The Impact of Recording Technology on Music
Most successful musicians know a hidden art carried out by the work of a good sound engineer; it is
essential for a magnificent album. For the rest of us novice listeners and fans, we believe what we hear
through our speakers or played over the radio are the true skilled professional musicians, soaring at
their craft. Most contemporary music, from pop to R B and acid jazz to the sophisticated realm of
orchestral film scores, has been modernized by several inventions encased within the studio. The art of
audio engineering has taken on new forms, from the nuts and bolts, plug it in, and see if it works era

This eliminated the need for highly skilled professional musicians to back up tunes in the studio.
Musicians are expensive as is studio time, so methods were created to save cost while producing the
most equivalent replica of the missing instrumentalists. In addition to cost, another factor that
computers introduced was a faster pace of life. Faster forms of media birthed the creation of T. V.
networks such as MTV and VH1 to carry popular music at an incredible rate to viewers. A majority of
pop music artists in the last decade have one thing in common: their fame rose and declined faster
than high school relationships. Faster life means a demand to have better quality music, with low cost,
with people who were not focusing on music as an art, but as a way to get thousands of teen females
screaming their name. Musicians have to export larger quantities of music which is current and within
the boundaries of trends. The perfect solution came around the late 1970s in a format known as MIDI
(Musical Instrument Digital Interface). In a simple explanation, a MIDI file is a blueprint, which is
sent to a reading machine. This machine has various spectrum data programmed corresponding to
different instruments. The rather small MIDI file is then read, and interpreted to match the desired
synthesized sound. The quality of the sound produced depends on the

Essay on The Second Industrial Revolution
By the time of the Civil War, the technologies upon which the First Industrial Revolution was based
were established in the United States. In the years following the war, the nation s industrial energies
were focused on completing the railroad and telegraph networks of the North, rebuilding those of the
South, and expanding those of the West. Once the devastating depression of the 1870 s depleted, the
stage was set for the Second Industrial Revolution.
New inventions came about to ease the production of goods that were being supplied. The creation of
factories emerged by retailers who were struggling to meet the requirements of the masses
surrounding them. The formation of power driven machinery was initiated in order to compete with ...

In the late 19 th century, many new immigrants came to America with hopes to escape religious and
political persecution, to find better employment opportunities, for more freedoms, and a chance to
start over again. The immigrant work force grew fast as the demand for factory labor grew. These
immigrants were important to industrialization in the United States. They were willing to work in
unsanitary work conditions for little pay. Because of this, American industries were able to hire more
of these types of workers. Although they were unskilled, the type of jobs they were required to do
were jobs that didn t demand much knowledge.
Workers during the Industrial Revolution had hoped for benefits, such as health, cleaner working
conditions, better pay, and less working hours. Industrial workers often felt overworked because of the
long, stressful hours placed upon them by their employers. Labor unions began to emerge as a result
of the long hours and awful working conditions. These workers were locked up all day in factories
that were eight stories high. They were given absolutely no relaxation until the heavy engine stopped.
After leaving work, they would go home to get refreshed for the next day. This left these industrial
workers with no time for association with their families.

Analyzing Aldous Huxley s Brave New World
1.If there is any special language used (dialects, foreign words, slang, etc.) give examples and explain
its use and purpose. What is its effect?
In Brave New World, the author uses many slangs to help the reader imagine what the he is trying to
portray (uses particular slangs that fit the context). For example the Bokanovsky process, and Bottling.
The Bokanovsky process is to genetically produce identical human beings (genetic copies of people).
Bottling is another term used in the novel, it is when embryos and newborn babies are grown in bottles
for 9 months rather in (a real mother s) womb. Brave New World takes place in the future, therefore
the author introduces these fictional processes to fit the setting of the book. This process also supports
the author s theme in the novel (technology is taking over). The humans in the World State are copied
and born identical to 96 other people. This society is boring and repetitive. People are genetically
made and are identical to one another, being unique in this community is rare. As the author
introduces these slangs, the readers get an idea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

things that we use everyday, it makes us happy. However, too much of a good thing can be bad. As

the adolescents have smartphones: apple, samsung, HTC. Personally, I cannot function through the

of our lives. Kids are becoming anti social, which often leads to depression. As a result. suicide rates

stepped in at the helm of this company and continued to take it in the right direction by quadrupling
sales and profits from 1987 to 1993. The main problem they now face is how to sustain their

Though supplier power is high in the retail discounting industry, Wal*Mart changed the game with
their two step hub and spoke distribution network. Though building 1,000,000 square foot distribution

cost and deliver to their stores with 48 hours, sometimes even 24 hours. The network s become so
effective that 80% of their inventory comes directly from these 27 centers. In contrast, Kmart has only
50% of their products coming from distribution centers with a full half being shipped directly from

restocking costs. Another decision that demonstrates Wal*Mart s commitment to the future is their
unyielding emphasis on superior information technology. Beginning in 1983 and standard by 1988,
electronic scanning of Uniform Product Codes was installed in Wal*Mart stores. This and similar
programs were effective in ensuring accurate pricing and reducing shrinkage, yet Kmart recognized its

Barry Goldwater Conservatism
Barry Goldwater is considered the biggest loser in American history. In his presidential run, his
opponent, Lyndon B. Johnson, won more of the popular vote than any man before. But Goldwater s
run sparked a great movement through America; the rise of conservatism. Goldwater was considered
an extremist conservative, even dubbed Mr. Conservative, as he believed the true western ideals of
individualism. He was a fair and strong political competitor, but his views were not totally agreed with
at the time of his presidential race. Yet he was such a convincing man, that his ideas took root within
the young people of the country. Throughout Barry Goldwater s presidential run, conservatism became
more popular and a rightward shift began to take place, but both parties grew stronger and more
people became interested in politics due to his his time invested in politics. Even before his election,
Goldwater was planting the seeds of a conservative in young people s minds. When people tried to
elect him for the vice president nominee in 1960, he declined the offer, but used the moment in the
spotlight to start a movement. He urged the people who wanted to elect him to have conservatives take
back the Republican party, starting the movement he would further in 1964. Goldwater was a brilliant
political figure as he was not singularly trying to implement change, he was trying to advocate for the
rise of conservatives. He had strong beliefs and followed through on them, inspiring people no

Descriptive Essay About School
After that the seats were all full except the two near my desk, a guy walked past me and then backed
up and smiled at me and asked, Do you mind? I don t know anybody in this class and it looks like I
could get to know you. I smiled and responded with a chuckle, I don t own these desks sit wherever
you like. He took a seat next to me and introduced himself (let s keep in mind that I was looking at the
floor the entire time.) He waited for my response and I asked him to repeat his name. The words hit

said, Wow! Deja Vu. He asked, Why deja vu? I grinned and looked at him a bit offended and said, You
don t remember me? To think after taking a girl to the police station you d at least remember her face.
His eyes opened wide and he examined my snarky face and said, It s you? really loudly he practically
yelled it and everyone was staring at us. I looked at him and laughed sarcastically and responded,
Wow, what a great way to introduce yourself to the class. He snickered and gave me a annoyed face
and said, Yeah I have a funny way of meeting people, don t you agree? I looked at him for a minute or
two and then lowered my head in agreement soon after class started and the teacher took his time to
introduce himself, the course, and other students. The class was a bore the entire time Jessie and me
were passing notes and asking each other silly questions to get to know each other. The period is
almost over and by the end of the period I realized how attractive Jessie is and that shook me I couldn
t think of any love interests or stupid crushes. I must stayed focused on why I came here grades and
tests and big projects due at insane times. My goal is to pass high school and be valedictorian if I can
be and have really good grades and have every option of colleges or universities. Jessie kicked me and
said, Hey umm, do you have anywhere to eat or sit at lunch because I have a seat for you, if you d

Theme Of Weather In Catcher In The Rye
We wake up everyday to different weather, either good or bad, however our emotions are depended
upon it. One September day arose, rain was falling and so were my emotions. I felt sad for no reason, I
should have felt happy because it was Saturday, but no matter what happened, I was down. In the
Catcher in the Rye, J.D. Salinger uses weather to exploit emotion. As rain approaches many people
start to feel depressed, but also content. Holden explains why he believes people are crazy for leaving
the cemetery just because of the rain. He starts to talk about what the scenery looks like, and how he
feels. Holden states It rained on his lousy tombstone, and it rained on the grass on his stomach. All the
visitors that were visiting the cemetery started running like hell over their cars. That s what really
drove me crazy (172). Holden becomes sad as he sees everyone leave just because of the rain, he feels
depressed that people would just leave their loved ones alone. Holden s emotions are depressing, but
he will also show a sign of joy due to the weather. Holden changes to a happy state of mind as he sees
the many parents hide under the carousel for cover. He talks about feeling happy as he views Phoebe
going around and around on the carousel. He states It began to rain like a bastard. All the parents and
mothers and everybody went over and stood right under the roof of the carousel. I felt so damn happy
all of the sudden, the way Phoebe was going around and around and around (233). Holden will not let
the rain change her happiness, he consumes happiness and feels like he may cry. Overall, rain has
played a key role in showing emotion, but the snow seems to take a different turn on things. Salinger
shows that the cold can pick up emotions to make people feel despondent and lonely. Holden
describes a time in the city when he felt like he had vanished from life. He talks about crossing the
road, but then everytime he would cross he would feel gone. He projects It was kind of a crazy
afternoon, terrifically cold, and no sun out or anything, you would feel like you were disappearing
every time you crossed a road (8). When Holden says he feels like he is disappearing, he is saying that
his emotion is lonely and

Motorking Corporation
Motorking Corporation New Gas Extender
As Motorking Corporation considers introducing its now gas extender product into the market, the
management must consider various factors to determine if this is a good financial move. The
production manager needs to determine if the product will generate a profit for the corporation, how
much product is expected to sell to determine how much to produce and how much to outsource.
The first thing that the production manager must consider is the optimal quantity of cases that can be
produced. The marketing manager has indicated that if the economy is strong then Motorking will sell
100,000 cases. If the economy is moderate Motorking will sell 70,000 cases, and if the economy is

Motorking Corporation must also determine whether or not to sign a contract with DSI to conduct the
survey. Based on the forecasted profits, a decision tree was constructed using the past market research
study conducted by DSI to provide a graphical representation of the decision making process. It shows
the natural or logical progression that will occur over time.
For the Motorking Corporation, the DSI tree estimates a profit of $1,885,137.50 in a strong economy
and after subtracting the DSI fee of $20,000 leaves the corporation with $1,865,137.50 which is
greater than $1,577,291 (This is Motorking s Expected Value for Perfect Information). This proves
that the Motorking should hire DSI to conduct a market survey.
The expected value approach is used to determine the expected value with perfect information (EVPI).
The EVPI is obtained by subtracting the expected value without perfect information (EMV) from the
EVPI.
The maximum payment that Motorking Corporation should pay for perfect information is $56,672.
Maximum payment for DSI services should be $327,846.88 ($1,885,137.50 $1,577,291)

Restricting Communism with the Marshall Plan
The source in question is an extract from the United States Secretary of State George C. Marshall s
commencement speech for receiving an honorary degree from Harvard University; it was delivered on
the 5th of June, 1947 at Harvard University.
The speech was created primarily Charles Bohlen, a Soviet expert and Marshall s special assistant, and
later revised by Marshall. Department officials, including George Kennan and William Clayton saw
the Marshall Plan as a way of restricting Communist growth in Europe, by strengthening the
struggling democratic European nations . After the end of WWII in 1945, the majority of Europe was
in ruins; over a third of the European industry was destroyed by the war, resulting in weak economies,
and millions of people unemployed and starving, causing low morale. As economies were not
improving at a rapid enough pace, combined with high unemployment and a hungry population,
people started to look for change. Communism began to look promising, and was becoming
increasingly popular in Europe through rebels and partisans. In an attempt confine the spread of
Communism, Marshall was sent to Moscow to negotiate with Stalin. Initially, Stalin welcomed the
possibility of Soviet participation in a U.S funded European reconstruction program. However, Stalin
opposed the idea of a coordinated multilateral aid programme, which was seen to threaten the Soviet
political and economic position in Eastern Europe , and withdrew all support and insisted that

The Brazilian National Standards Organization
Corruption in Brazil reduces the financial resources that the government makes available to food
service units (FSUs) and the general public. Before going into its implication, let s start by defining
what food safety is. Then, we will look at the legislations put in place by the government to regulate
food distribution in order to protect the population. The Brazilian National Standards Organization
created ISO 22000:2006, where food safety is described as the indication that the food will not cause
harm to the consumer if it is prepared and/or consumed as intended (Food Safety in Feeding Services:
A Requirement in Brazil, 2013).
The Brazilian government has put in place a number of regulations in order to address the food safety
issues such as the technical regulation of good manufacturing practices for food service units, which
are characterized as places where activities of handling, preparation, fractioning, storage, distribution,
transportation, sale display, and delivery of food prepared for consumption are carried out (conformity
of food services units with legislation, 2015). The main tools of the regulation along the food chain are
Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and
technical/sequential instructions , which are the framework presented in the Brazilian legislation RDC
216/2004 (conformity of food services units with legislation, 2015). The Safety Food Program, which

Pros And Cons Of 3 Day Week
Don t you just love three day weekends? Getting more time off from school and having more time to
spend with friends and family. Studies have shown that four day weeks can improve the work
environment, from helping save money, to people getting better health. Although some people may
say that it is taking time away from learning, work, and other things, the pros are much greater than
the cons; therefore, every week should be a three day weekend. One reason why we should have 3 day
weekends every weekend is because it can save money. With four days, the work environment will be
cutting back on electricity. For example, lights, heating, cooling, etc. Furthermore, with a four day
school week, studies found that attendance went up for both students and teachers. Now schools are
only spending one third of what they were on substitute teachers. Also since 2007, the number of
school districts in colorado that chose to adopt a four day school week to save money rose by 30
percent! In the next 10 years, we may save up to 60 percent of our money. Finally, with less days of
the week, we won t have to pay for food for lunch, buses to get kids to get and from school, and clean
drinking water for the kids to stay hydrated. Another reason why switching to a 4 day week is because
it improves academic and morale performances. According to a paper, a fourth grade math scores went
up over the course of a 4 day school week. Also, work employees morale goes up because they get to

The Types Of Support That An End User May Require
Chapter 2: Literature Review
The four types of support that an end user may require are general support, functional support, data
support, and purchasing support. General support includes networks, software, hardware, and other
training related support (Govindarajulu, 2014). General Support is the only form of support that will
be included in this study. A university will on average work only with general support for their users.
While some authors (Gibson, 2014, for example) focus on a general overview of help desk
requirements, others PChelps (2008) look more closely at different aspects including costs, where
users get their support (Govindarajulu, 2014), and how to evaluate a help desk (Sheehan, 2007). This
case study will take a quantitative approach to evaluation of a help desk instead of a qualitative as
other researchers have conducted. This literature review will discuss how the help desk affects a
company s reputation, the costs it has to a company, how a help desk can be evaluated, and how to
improve a help desk s customer service.
Purpose of Help Desk
The purpose of a help desk is to provide internal users (employees or students) and external users with
technical support. This support is optimizing computer software, network troubleshooting, virus
removal, password resets, and any other types of computer related problems that the user may
encounter (Gibson, 2014). The help desk staff is generally the most likely to be contacted by users,

Asian Cultural Identity
Growing up as an Asian American, I often struggle to identify my own cultural identity. Being the first
generation of both my mother and father s side of the family, I more than often get confused between
American and Asian culture when applying them to society or at home. While being raised at home, I
am largely influenced by culture and traditions from Asian parents and relatives. However, when I go
to school or someplace else, I am heavily judged for practicing part of my Asian culture because it is
entirely different than western or American. With that being noted, I began to learn and adapt to the
western culture in hopes of fitting with society as well of trying to keep my Asian culture intact. As
can be seen, this situation I dealt with is the same problem the whole Asian American community
faces. Mainly focusing on younger generations like me for example, the Asian American community
struggles to adapt to the western culture because they were raised with an Asian influence. Wishing to
fit in society and be part of the social norms, the Asian Americans community faces issues that
identify their cultural identity.
A child growing up in a certain environment is influenced on how he or she takes action in a society.

Importance Of Numeracy Skills In Business
Numeracy is not a skill or fixed entity that can be earned. Instead, people s skills are situated along a
continuum of different purposes and levels of accomplishment with numbers (Steen, L.A. Numeracy.
1990). Good numeracy is a skill that has in my opinion diminished generation by generation due to
advancement of computers and systems that aid in daily life. However, it is still a skill that is still
needed in daily life and is essential in business. Therefore, business managers with poor numeracy
skills would suffer a lack of success and advancement in addition to such negative effects on the
business world and its employees. I will discuss the importance of having good numeracy skills for
business managers including the fact that Good numeracy skills can lead to improved customer
relations and communication, improved workplace performance, increased opportunities for internal
promotion, increased opportunities for multi skilling of staff and enhanced team building and
performance (The benefits of improving essential skills, by Llywodraeth Cymru Welsh Government)
are clear positives of having good numeracy skills, therefore improving output for the company and its
managers. However, there are clear benefits that arise from having good numeracy skills for
employees in general including: More confidence in employee s ability to take on new challenges,
Improved communication and problem solving skills, Increased motivation and Improved confidence.

Now, it is time to expand our business and become part of a successful, elite international company.
Based on my research and my experience, Canada should be the country to begin our global
expansion.
Problem
Although we are still making profits and leading the industry in the United States with our products,
our company is currently at a stale point in the market. The problem is we need to find a new market
to enter into in order to stay competitive in the industry. We need a diverse workforce to assist in
bringing new ideas to increase our company s competitiveness. Solution
The solution is to conduct business in Canada to increase income, gain international experience, and
obtain international relationships. This will be an opportunity for our company to increase profits and
open into a new era of growth. Our company can and will be profitable if the most effective area is
chosen.
Conclusion
From my research and experience, Canada is the most prominent selection for many reasons, but
mostly because of the availability of multiple global opportunities. Understanding the culture,
interactions, and they way they do business will allow us to be successful in beginning our

Tuberculosis And Its Effects On The Lungs Essay
Description
March 24, 1882 was a very special day that started the evolutional study of Tuberculosis. A German
physician and scientist named Robert Koch was the first to publish work on tubercle bacillus. In 1890,
Koch isolated a substance from tubercle bacillus that could render harmless pathogenic bacteria. After
his findings, he created an injection, which he later called tuberculin. Koch injected himself with the
concentrated tuberculin. While observing himself he found that the bacteria violently attacks the body
and raised the body s temperature. Because of his findings, other scientist could take a lead in the
study and could other research with this bacteria m. tuberculosis (Daniel, 2006).
Tuberculosis is a disease derived from a bacterium called Mycobacterium. Microorganism such as
mycobacteria are participates in nature s recycling program. The wall of the membrane of the
bacterium contains abnormally high levels of lipids but since M.tuberculosis lacks an outer membrane
so it s classified as both gram positives and gram negative. There are two types of tuberculosis
infections pulmonary and extra pulmonary. Pulmonary tuberculosis affects the lungs. Extra pulmonary
affects different parts of the body except the lungs. Since tuberculosis is an airborne so many can get it
from shaking hands or touching public objects.

The objective of this lab was to separate a mixture that consisted of elements and compounds. There
are seven ways to separate a mixture which included paper chromatography, filtration, evaporation,
simple distillation, fractional distillation, magnetism, and separating funnel. The only methods used in
this lab were filtration, evaporation, magnetism, and separating funnel. The method of magnetism was
used when the magnet was moved under the mixture to separate the iron. The process of filtration
involved the use of a filter paper placed in a filter funnel. The funnel was placed in a beaker and the
mixture of water, sand, and sodium chloride was poured into the funnel. The liquid part drained
through the filter paper into the beaker, leaving the solid sand particles trapped on the filter. After the
water and sodium chloride were in a beaker, the process of evaporation was used. The compound was

This separation was pretty successful, considering the difficulty getting every single piece of iron

substances that had a 100 percent yield. Both were very easy to disconnect because of the separation
methods used. Since sand had the highest percent yield, filtration was the best separation method in

Dreyfus was not directly advocating for political, economic, cultural, social, or military change, his
attempts to advocate for his innocence led to a political and cultural divide in France. The Dreyfus
Affair was a main cause of the tremendous unrest in France. It unleased a strong anti Semitism
movement in France because of a perceived failure of the justice system (Fischel 119). It deeply
divided France in politics, religion, and national identity. The acquittal of Alfred Dreyfus gave justice
to him and marked a turning point in history, in which it was a magnificent step forward in an era of
progress for ideas of liberty, of justice, and of social solidarity (Dreyfus 241).
Although Alfred Dreyfus was not directly advocating for political, economic, cultural, social, or
military change, the primary source, an open letter by Emile Zola J accuse advocated for these things.
J accuse was published in defense of Alfred Dreyfus in L Aurore, a popular French newspaper. The
French press both helped to convict and acquit Alfred Dreyfus to Devil s Island; during the

Onboarding Research Paper
Effective Onboarding Orientation and onboarding are crucial when training and developing new
employees. Both are gateways into high work performance, a closer work environment, and
encourages employee retention. Orientation is the process of familiarizing new employees with the
organization, their jobs, and their work units. It influences the employee s attitude about their role,
responsibilities, job related tasks, and explains the organization s rules. Onboarding is the process of
socializing the new employees to help integrate them into the organization. New hires are at a higher
rate of quitting, the usage of onboarding is what many companies today have neglected. According to
Sujan Patel, the author of: How to Create an Effective Onboarding ... Show more content on

Patel explains the first mistake is lack of structure. By that he means onboarding is not a one size fits
all process. It differs business to business, so he suggests to learn from mistakes and adapt the
onboarding program through trial and error. This can be done by taking notes and adjusting
accordingly. Drafts of what was done and how it went should be kept documented so they can be
changed and/or referenced to. Another mistake Patel points out is the lack of focus on culture.
Company culture is just as important as paperwork and job responsibilities. On the job success comes
from the interaction between employees and the building of their relationships within the company s
culture. Placing the newcomer with other employees that fit their personality is highly recommended.
The employee will feel more comfortable and other employees will be more accepting. Socialization
among the employees increase productivity, because the employees are happier and healthier
relationship wise. This creates overall more motivation in the workplace. Another practice companies
that use onboarding fall into, is having too high expectations. When employing a new employee,
employers tend to get much too eager and stressed on hurrying up the acclimation process during
onboarding. rushing this process can shortcut the training and overload the newcomer with too much
responsibility without the knowhow on where to start or who to go to. This can lead to overly stressed
employees, poor work quality, and a low retention rate. It is best to match the quality of work the
employer expects with the amount of training that will be given to the employee. If an employee is not
keeping up with production the employer will be able to monitor that and deal with it

Using Raw Data From Oil Fields
Problem Statement
We want to try and develop a material balance equation that tries to give an accurate estimate of the
original gas in place in a coalbed methane reservoir considering the absorbed gases, free gases, rock
compressibility and certain factors that have strong effect on the original gas in place.
Considering so many MBE equations that have been presented by different researchers, we are going
to be using raw data from oil fields to with researchers developed material balance equation to
calculate the OGIP in the reservoir and compare the results to various simulation results to see the
similarities and differences between them.
Methodology
We will be considering G.R king (1993) MBE and E. Firanda Material balance equations and doing
our calculations based on their developed equations. We would be comparing these results with the
result gotten from the finite difference simulator mentioned in king s paper so validate and see the
viability of applying this MBE s to actual reservoirs.
We used the parameters for a 6ft coalbed reservoir stated in kings (1993) and E. Firanda (2011) paper.
List of Input Parameters for sensitivity of MBE

Growth Disorder Analysis
Growth disorder affects thousands of people across the world. Some are diagnosed with excessive
tallness while others are diagnosed with familial short stature (Peak 6). In one case a boy was
diagnosed at eleven years old, and he had to inject himself with a biosynthetic growth hormone
everyday (Torres 25). He grew up and became the highest goalscorer in Barcelona s history, Leo
Messi (Caioli 34).
There are many details on growth disorder. For instance, people with growth disorder face many
physical challenges. One example is, it interferes with normal activities. It would be very hard for a
person with growth disorder to go grocery shopping, drive a car, or turn on lights. Another example is,
society is designed for average height (Peak 61). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance he has won dozens of awards, and he keeps on breaking records. Therefore, he has won
the Golden Shoe for being the top scorer in the FIFA World Youth Championship. He also became the
first player ever to win the Ballon d Or, an award for the Soccer Player of the Year, four times in a row
(Torres 36). Leo won a golden medal for Argentina s men s soccer team in the 2008 Olympics, and he
won the Copa del Rey Top Goalscorer in 2010 and 2011 (45). Although Leo has received many
awards, he has also accomplished a lot. For example, he makes $128,000 a day (Prayank). Leo was
also debuted on La Liga, and his #10 jersey has become the world s best selling (Morreale 21). Leo
has made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for the most goals scored in one year (41).When
Leo was first signed to Barcelona, his contract was on a napkin (Torres 29).
Leo has many influences and inspirations. For instance Diego Maradona, a former great Argentinian
soccer player, is a big inspiration to Leo (Logothetis 7). Another inspiration is Leo s grandmother
Celia. She put Leo in his first youth soccer club when he was only five years old (Morreale 9). Every
time Leo scores a goal, he puts two fingers to the sky in honor of his grandmother (37).
In conclusion, growth disorder affects many people, but Leo Messi did not let that stop him from
becoming one of the greatest soccer players in history. Leo wants to give back, not only to those who
helped him,

Terrorism Vs Domestic Terrorism Essay
What seperates domestic terrorism from mass killings? The United States have a long history of
terrorism, mass terrorism and mass killings. Most of these happened in the open public and targeted a
number of population to execute. Among these incidents are the bombing of twin towers in 9/11. The
Oklahoma City Bombing, The Wisconsin Sikh Killings, the shooting of Congresswoman Giffors and
others in Arizona, the Virginia Tech shootings, the cinema shooting during the filimng of Batman and
recently the mass shooting at a church in Charleston, South Carolina. What drives the motivation to do
such crime? Is It a mass spree killings or an act of domestic terrorism? In this essay we are going to
analyze the whether it is a mass spree killing or domestic terrorism. These mass killings can be linked
to one of the theory that can explain why these crimes occurred. According to Borgeson, Kevin and ...

Is this a form of terrorism of just another separate issue? According to German (2012), By conjuring
the notion of a Black Separatist movement from the unconnected activities of different groups with
disparate views and goals, the FBI creates a false justification for aggressive enforcement operations
against any group to which it gives this label, essentially using race and ideology as proxies for
evidence of violence . We can agree easily that this is just another crime and this time it has a racial
motive. Race and ideology is not the motive that drives the terrorist to do such harm to a mass
population. This is just another misconception the Federal Beurue of Investigation has not proven

Interracial Marriage In The 19th Century
Interracial Marriage In today s society interracial marriage is not something that many people oppose,
but perhaps they encourage it. Interracial marriage is when two people from different racial or ethnic
groups join in marriage. In the 19th century people did not marry outside of their own race. It was
prohibited. I will be comparing and contrasting interracial marriage from the 19th century to the 21st
century,to explain that love sees no color, the effect on their children, and the beauty of joined ethnic
groups.
Over time, people have been discouraged about who they love and the color of their skin. Today
blacks are with white, Chinese are with Germans, etc. and our society is starting to accept that. The

The Basic Model Of Visual Cryptography And The Extended Model
Abstract
Visual Cryptography is a type of cryptographic scheme used to encode a secret image into shadow
images called shares or layers such that it can t be decrypted using the human visual system unless
certain qualified subsets of the shares are used. The secret image is encoded without the use of any
cryptographic computations. In this paper we will discuss the basic model of visual cryptography and
the extended model; using the k out of n scheme.
Keywords: Visual Cryptography, Extended Visual Cryptography. 1. Introduction
Secret sharing is a scheme that permits a secret message to be shared among a set P of n participants.
The secret is shared in such a way that only qualified subsets of P can recover the secret, any
nonqualified subset has no information on the secret. We take into consideration, the problem of
encrypting pictures and printed texts such that it is perfectly secure without the hassle of using
cryptographic computations. In 1979, Shamir [7] and Blakley [8] introduced the concept of a
threshold scheme. A (k, n) threshold scheme is a method whereby n pieces of information of a secret
key k, called shares are distributed among n participants so that the k cannot be re constructed from
the knowledge of fewer than k shares. In 1995 Naor and Shamir [1] proposed a new type of
cryptographic scheme, which could encode and decode secret images without any cryptographic
computations. The reason this scheme was considered remarkable was that the secret message

Woman Hollering Creek By Sandra Cisneros Analysis
Fierce Woman
Sandra Cisneros said, I have to say that the traditional role is kind of a myth, I think the traditional
Mexican woman is a fierce woman. If I compare this quote with my mother, I would have to say that
Cisneros knew my mother and she was talking about her. Since I have use of reason, there s not a day
that goes by that I don t see my mother fighting for a better future for us. When my mother was
younger she faced really hard situations that made her a better woman and she was gifted with a
blessing. Woman Hollering Creek , is a story that every Mexican woman could relate to, when I read
it, I pictured my mom in my mind. Being a single mother was never an obstacle for my mother to

was supposed to take. On the other hand, my mother didn t beg him to stay with us and she became a

to my mother I have to admit that food has been always in my mouth and shoes on my feet. My
mother became a single mother and she confronted the world with her daughter, she was proud to have
me and would stand tall when they would ask her about me. The older I get, the more I see the efforts
my mom has made to see me happy, my mother is the type of women that would do anything to keep
me safe, just like Cleofila, she decided that the best for her babies was to leave her husband and start a
future by herself. I relate Juan Pedro, Cleofila s husband to my father, because he didn t fight for his
kids, he would treat woman very badly, he was teaching his kid to be a bad person and to not respect
others. Juan Pedro never actually cared about his family, just like my father, but who needs a father
when you have a mother like mine? I asked my mom once why didn t she stayed with my father and
she responded firmly, I didn t wanted to depend on a man, I am a woman that didn t had a career back
then and with you, it would be hard

Design And Hermeneutic Phenomenology Research Paradigm Has...
10.4.5 Critique
The critique of this model derives principally from the criticisms that can be levelled at the research
methodology, particularly its non positivist approach, although a rationale for the single case study
design and hermeneutic phenomenology research paradigm has been made above (Ch 5,6).
Within its own epistemological terms a legitimate criticism of such a model of management might
derive more generally from its potential irrefutability, following Popper s criticism of the
pseudosciences , where a counter example is re interpreted within the frame of the model so as not to
contradict it, for example a non charismatic leader s behaviour might be reinterpreted as having
elements of the charismatic process, although they not being obvious.
A second critique might be made building on the assumption that managerial effectiveness within an
organisation in predicated on their ability to lead, mobilise and direct subordinates. As a result, it
might be argued that the model covers a very small element of the overall leadership and management
process, focussing exclusively on the manager s activity and leadership with their own subordinate
team, and missing the larger organisational function of the leader, their entrepreneurial activity, and
engagement with supraordinate managers. This is an acknowledged failing, based upon Parson s
collectivist notion of power (@@@@ above), and there are some speculations and proposals for
further research noted below.

A Communication Analysis Of The Waterview Connection...
Have the Right Actions been Taken?
A Communication Analysis of the Waterview Connection Development
Introduction
Grunig (2013) sees public relations and communication management as fundamental to the
achievement of organisational goals. A major road and tunnelling project in West Auckland, has
required considerable planning and communication alongside its publics. The Waterview Connection
Development (WCD) is a motorway connection between State Highways 16 and 20, which, in part,
runs as tunnels. The WCD links between the central business district and the airport, and an alternative
to State Highway 1.
This essay critically assesses how the New Zealand Transport Authority (NZTA) has communicated
with publics throughout the WCD. It analyses the communication activity, and applies public relations
theory.
Key Publics
Major publics with a distinct interest include residents with properties affected by the noise and
possible shifts of land, road users who may experience delays during building, and businesses that
may lose of revenue if customers find it difficult to access them. Mehta and Xavier (2009) note
engagement relationship strategies used with various publics may be different to each other and during
different parts of the project. Managers will need to negotiate with residents, road users and business
owners to minimise disruptions.
All affected sections of Auckland s multicultural population should be included in the organisation s
publics. The diversity

Spanish Moss Essay
Spanish moss, Tillandsia usneoides L, is not a moss, but a flowering and fruiting aerial epiphytic
bromeliad. It is one of nine Tillandsia species typically living in warm, humid climates on trees or
other supporting structures such as fences and power cables (Billings 1904; Garth 1964; Callaway, et
al. 2002). This epiphyte is distributed between 38°N and 38°S latitude, up to 3300 meters above sea
level (Garth,1964 and Gentry,1987), and is native to Mexico, Central America, South America and the
Caribbean. It grows from Texas to Virginia in the United States (Barve, 2015).
Tillansia usneoides does not require a specific host tree and so are considered generalists (Ackerman

2012 and Norquay, 2010). In contrast, seminole bats (Lasiurus seminolus) and evening bats
(Nycticeius humeralis) take advantage of the insulatory properties of the bromeliad in pine trees
(Hein, et al. 2008 and Jennings, 1958). Spanish moss maternity roosts are open and clear from below,
allowing for easy entry/exit by multiple family members, as well as providing protection from storms,
which can knock bat pups to the ground, endangering their survival. Bats are able to drink water off
the epiphyte leaves and eat insects which take refuge in the branches. Many, especially juveniles, can
become ensnared in epiphyte festoons , the hanging stem s classical descriptive term. The occurrence
of bat and bird entrapment and mortality in areas heavily infested with Tillandria is unknown, but
most likely infrequent (Norquay, et al. 2010). Southern flying squirrels (Glaucomys volans) are known
to nest within Tillandria streamers, adding hair, wool, feathers, lichens, pine straw and grass (Prange,
2006). The eastern rat snake (Pantherophis alleghaniensis), gray rat snake (P. spiloides), and red corn
snake (P. gutatta) have also been recorded nesting and foraging within the tangles of Spanish moss,
both in trees and on the ground. Likewise, Cuban tree frogs and green anole lizards have been known

  • 2. Decline And Rise Of Traditional Medicine The Decline and Rise of Traditional Medicine In his book The Inconvenient Indian, Thomas King makes reference to the greatly reduced populations of the indigenous population caused by the arrival of western diseases. In this essay I intend to explore the ways in which the trajectory of the first nation s community was forever changed not just by the effects of land appropriation but also by other side effects of colonisation. I want to review how the traditional methods of health care, which had serviced the indigenous population for centuries, were challenged by the onslaught of new diseases and later pushed underground by the government s assimilation attempts and how they have survived these challenges to meet the needs of modern day indigenous Canadians. In an early copy of The Scientific Monthly, Dr. Hrdlicka of the Smithsonian Institute, was quoted as saying that before its discovery by Columbus, America was one of the most healthful of continents, if not the most so. This health status could be attributed to the lifestyle of the indigenous people, their food varying according to the locality where they lived, was meat, fish, vegetables (often eaten raw), nuts, seeds and fruits. Few areas had all these possibilities but, since Indians ate every part of an animal and every edible plant in their locality, they came close an optimal diet. Traditional healers or medicine men as they became known to non indigenous people were an integral part of the indigenous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The state laws requiring the removal of the asbestos upon significant renovation or demolition of the warehouses and the contracts requiring removal of the asbestos at the option of the buyer do not relate to the other than normal operation of the warehouses. As such, these requirements represent obligations that are within the scope of Subtopic. Recognition of an asset retirement obligation under ASC 410 20 requires an entity to be able to reasonably estimate the fair value of the obligation. Per ASC 410 20 25 4: An entity shall recognize the fair value of a liability for an asset retirement obligation in the period in which it is incurred if a reasonable estimate of fair value can be made. QUESTION 2 The state laws requiring LOI to remove the asbestos create an obligation to remove the asbestos under ASC 410 20 15 2a for the ten warehouses that LOI will sell within five years. ASC 410 20 25 8b indicates that an asset retirement obligation is estimable if all of the following exist: The settlement date or the range of potential settlement dates The method of settlement or potential methods of settlement (The term potential methods of settlement refers to methods of settling the obligation that are currently available to the entity. • 4. The Definition Of Piety In Plato s Euthyphro In this essay I will discuss Plato s Euthyphro. I will discuss the dialogue that happens between the characters in the text. In the text both characters struggle to come to an agreement as to what the definition of piety is. I will give a few examples of the definitions Euthyphro offers Socrates. Socrates rejected some of Euthyphro s definitions for piety. I will explain why Socrates rejected some of the definitions. I will analyze Socrates understanding of morality based upon his conversation with Euthyphro. I will decide whether or not his theory is subjective or objective. I will also determine what the foundation of morality in his theory is. The Euthyphro begins with Euthyphro and Socrates. There is a dialogue between the two of them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Socrates ask what is the pious (Socrates 5). Euthyphro offers his first definition of piety. He basically says that what he is doing is pious. It is pious to prosecute the wrong doers and it is impious not to. Socrates rejects his definition by saying that the definition that Euthyphro offered is an example rather than a definition. Euthyphro then offers his second definition of piety. Euthyphro then states What is dear to the Gods is pious, what is not dear to the Gods is impious ( Euthyphro 6). Socrates rejects this definition by basically saying that all the Gods won t approve of what is pious and impious. Euthyphro offers the next definition which basically says that if all of the Gods think it is pious then it is pious and all of Gods don t think it is pious then it is impious. Socrates rejects this idea by basically saying that it can not be a definition because it still does not give an essence of what piety is. sEuthyphro offers many more definitions of what piety could be. Socrates and Euthyphro can not come to an agreement as to what the definition of piety is. In the end of the dialogue Euthyphro has an angrier tone of voice. You can conclude that he was starting to get annoyed with Socrates constant questions. He then tells Socrates that he is in a rush and he has to leave. • 9. How The Supply Chain Has Evolved Over The Years The supply chain has evolved over the years. With new businesses that are on the rise in the competitive world it is important to stay on top. Different merchants create better deals that cause relationships between the suppliers and their customers to the end. I wanted to explore those relationships and research the history of the supply chain . I wanted to know how things were ran and how they are able to sustain business when the economy changes. How supply chain management has evolved In the 1940s and 1950s, the focus of logistics research was on how to use mechanization (e.g., pallets and pallet lifts) to improve the very labor intensive processes of material handling and how to take better advantage of space using racking and better warehouse design and layout. The unit load concept gained popularity and the use of pallets became widespread. In the mid 1950s, this concept was extended to transportation management with the development of inter modal containers together with ships, trains, and trucks to handle these containers. By the 1960s, a clear trend had developed in shifting more time dependent freight transportation to truck rather than rail. This led to the need for joint consideration of warehousing, material handling, and freight transportation, which emerged under the label of Physical Distribution. Since the 1980s, computer technology has advanced at such a phenomenal rate that it is currently far ahead of the ability of the supply and logistics field ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Members of the community may need to walk a longer distance if they stay in an area that is not near a bus route. The neighborhood I stay in has about six bus stops, all within a five to ten minute walk from my apartment. The bus stops offer little protection from adverse weather or even a bench to sit on while waiting for the bus. I can image the difficulties a person in poor health, a person caring for small children, or an older adult may have while waiting on a bus. According to the GTA website, only the most frequently used bus stops will have a bench and shelter for those waiting (Greensboro Transit Authority, 2017). While some stops are not the most accommodating, the bus does have a high tech feature that lowers the bus closer to the ground for the passengers that need extra assistance, and the front of the bus reserve seats for handicap passengers. The availability of the GTA buses depends on the time, location, and day of the week. For instance, the route one, Bridford Place Stop, is available from 5:15 am to 11:58 pm, Monday through Friday (Greensboro Transit Authority, 2017). On Saturdays the bus is available from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. Bus routes on Sunday are limited to 6:00 am to 6:00 pm and only routes 21 to 27 are operational (Greensboro Transit Authority, 2017). Most contemporary music, from pop to R B and acid jazz to the sophisticated realm of orchestral film scores, has been modernized by several inventions encased within the studio. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This eliminated the need for highly skilled professional musicians to back up tunes in the studio. Musicians are expensive as is studio time, so methods were created to save cost while producing the most equivalent replica of the missing instrumentalists. In addition to cost, another factor that computers introduced was a faster pace of life. Faster forms of media birthed the creation of T. V. networks such as MTV and VH1 to carry popular music at an incredible rate to viewers. A majority of pop music artists in the last decade have one thing in common: their fame rose and declined faster than high school relationships. Faster life means a demand to have better quality music, with low cost, with people who were not focusing on music as an art, but as a way to get thousands of teen females screaming their name. Musicians have to export larger quantities of music which is current and within the boundaries of trends. The perfect solution came around the late 1970s in a format known as MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface). In a simple explanation, a MIDI file is a blueprint, which is sent to a reading machine. This machine has various spectrum data programmed corresponding to different instruments. The rather small MIDI file is then read, and interpreted to match the desired synthesized sound. The quality of the sound produced depends on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The immigrant work force grew fast as the demand for factory labor grew. These immigrants were important to industrialization in the United States. They were willing to work in unsanitary work conditions for little pay. Because of this, American industries were able to hire more of these types of workers. Although they were unskilled, the type of jobs they were required to do were jobs that didn t demand much knowledge. Workers during the Industrial Revolution had hoped for benefits, such as health, cleaner working conditions, better pay, and less working hours. Industrial workers often felt overworked because of the long, stressful hours placed upon them by their employers. Labor unions began to emerge as a result of the long hours and awful working conditions. These workers were locked up all day in factories that were eight stories high. In Brave New World, the author uses many slangs to help the reader imagine what the he is trying to portray (uses particular slangs that fit the context). For example the Bokanovsky process, and Bottling. The Bokanovsky process is to genetically produce identical human beings (genetic copies of people). Bottling is another term used in the novel, it is when embryos and newborn babies are grown in bottles for 9 months rather in (a real mother s) womb. Brave New World takes place in the future, therefore the author introduces these fictional processes to fit the setting of the book. This process also supports the author s theme in the novel (technology is taking over). The humans in the World State are copied and born identical to 96 other people. This society is boring and repetitive. People are genetically made and are identical to one another, being unique in this community is rare. Furthermore, CEO Glass and COO Soderquist have stepped in at the helm of this company and continued to take it in the right direction by quadrupling sales and profits from 1987 to 1993. The main problem they now face is how to sustain their phenomenal performance, and becoming number one has magnified this issue. Though building 1,000,000 square foot distribution centers seems costly, it allows Wal*Mart to purchase from their suppliers at a significantly reduced cost and deliver to their stores with 48 hours, sometimes even 24 hours. The network s become so effective that 80% of their inventory comes directly from these 27 centers. In contrast, Kmart has only 50% of their products coming from distribution centers with a full half being shipped directly from suppliers into their stores, thus raising costs to Kmart and their customers. Systems such as cross docking are also aiding Wal*Mart in their fight to streamline every process by reducing inventory and restocking costs. Another decision that demonstrates Wal*Mart s commitment to the future is their unyielding emphasis on superior information technology. Beginning in 1983 and standard by 1988, electronic scanning of Uniform Product Codes was installed in Wal*Mart stores. This and similar programs were effective in ensuring accurate pricing and reducing shrinkage, yet Kmart recognized its importance as well, and by 1990, had similar systems in place in its stores as well. One September day arose, rain was falling and so were my emotions. I felt sad for no reason, I should have felt happy because it was Saturday, but no matter what happened, I was down. In the Catcher in the Rye, J.D. Salinger uses weather to exploit emotion. As rain approaches many people start to feel depressed, but also content. Holden explains why he believes people are crazy for leaving the cemetery just because of the rain. He starts to talk about what the scenery looks like, and how he feels. Holden states It rained on his lousy tombstone, and it rained on the grass on his stomach. All the visitors that were visiting the cemetery started running like hell over their cars. That s what really drove me crazy (172). Holden becomes sad as he sees everyone leave just because of the rain, he feels depressed that people would just leave their loved ones alone. Holden s emotions are depressing, but he will also show a sign of joy due to the weather. Holden changes to a happy state of mind as he sees the many parents hide under the carousel for cover. He talks about feeling happy as he views Phoebe going around and around on the carousel. He states It began to rain like a bastard. All the parents and mothers and everybody went over and stood right under the roof of the carousel. I felt so damn happy all of the sudden, the way Phoebe was going around and around and around (233). Holden will not let the rain change her happiness, he consumes happiness and feels like he may cry. Overall, rain has played a key role in showing emotion, but the snow seems to take a different turn on things. Salinger shows that the cold can pick up emotions to make people feel despondent and lonely. Holden describes a time in the city when he felt like he had vanished from life. He talks about crossing the road, but then everytime he would cross he would feel gone. He projects It was kind of a crazy afternoon, terrifically cold, and no sun out or anything, you would feel like you were disappearing every time you crossed a road (8). Marshall s commencement speech for receiving an honorary degree from Harvard University; it was delivered on the 5th of June, 1947 at Harvard University. The speech was created primarily Charles Bohlen, a Soviet expert and Marshall s special assistant, and later revised by Marshall. Department officials, including George Kennan and William Clayton saw the Marshall Plan as a way of restricting Communist growth in Europe, by strengthening the struggling democratic European nations . After the end of WWII in 1945, the majority of Europe was in ruins; over a third of the European industry was destroyed by the war, resulting in weak economies, and millions of people unemployed and starving, causing low morale. As economies were not improving at a rapid enough pace, combined with high unemployment and a hungry population, people started to look for change. Communism began to look promising, and was becoming increasingly popular in Europe through rebels and partisans. In an attempt confine the spread of Communism, Marshall was sent to Moscow to negotiate with Stalin. Before going into its implication, let s start by defining what food safety is. The Brazilian National Standards Organization created ISO 22000:2006, where food safety is described as the indication that the food will not cause harm to the consumer if it is prepared and/or consumed as intended (Food Safety in Feeding Services: A Requirement in Brazil, 2013). The main tools of the regulation along the food chain are Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and technical/sequential instructions , which are the framework presented in the Brazilian legislation RDC 216/2004 (conformity of food services units with legislation, 2015). Studies have shown that four day weeks can improve the work environment, from helping save money, to people getting better health. Although some people may say that it is taking time away from learning, work, and other things, the pros are much greater than the cons; therefore, every week should be a three day weekend. One reason why we should have 3 day weekends every weekend is because it can save money. With four days, the work environment will be cutting back on electricity. For example, lights, heating, cooling, etc. Furthermore, with a four day school week, studies found that attendance went up for both students and teachers. Now schools are only spending one third of what they were on substitute teachers. Also since 2007, the number of school districts in colorado that chose to adopt a four day school week to save money rose by 30 percent! In the next 10 years, we may save up to 60 percent of our money. Finally, with less days of the week, we won t have to pay for food for lunch, buses to get kids to get and from school, and clean drinking water for the kids to stay hydrated. A German physician and scientist named Robert Koch was the first to publish work on tubercle bacillus. In 1890, Koch isolated a substance from tubercle bacillus that could render harmless pathogenic bacteria. After his findings, he created an injection, which he later called tuberculin. Koch injected himself with the concentrated tuberculin. While observing himself he found that the bacteria violently attacks the body and raised the body s temperature. Because of his findings, other scientist could take a lead in the study and could other research with this bacteria m. tuberculosis (Daniel, 2006). There are seven ways to separate a mixture which included paper chromatography, filtration, evaporation, simple distillation, fractional distillation, magnetism, and separating funnel. The only methods used in this lab were filtration, evaporation, magnetism, and separating funnel. The method of magnetism was used when the magnet was moved under the mixture to separate the iron. The process of filtration involved the use of a filter paper placed in a filter funnel. The funnel was placed in a beaker and the mixture of water, sand, and sodium chloride was poured into the funnel. Both are gateways into high work performance, a closer work environment, and encourages employee retention. Orientation is the process of familiarizing new employees with the organization, their jobs, and their work units. It influences the employee s attitude about their role, responsibilities, job related tasks, and explains the organization s rules. Onboarding is the process of socializing the new employees to help integrate them into the organization. New hires are at a higher rate of quitting, the usage of onboarding is what many companies today have neglected. According to Sujan Patel, the author of: How to Create an Effective Onboarding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Patel explains the first mistake is lack of structure. By that he means onboarding is not a one size fits all process. It differs business to business, so he suggests to learn from mistakes and adapt the onboarding program through trial and error. This can be done by taking notes and adjusting accordingly. Drafts of what was done and how it went should be kept documented so they can be changed and/or referenced to. Another mistake Patel points out is the lack of focus on culture. Company culture is just as important as paperwork and job responsibilities. On the job success comes from the interaction between employees and the building of their relationships within the company s culture. Placing the newcomer with other employees that fit their personality is highly recommended. The employee will feel more comfortable and other employees will be more accepting. Socialization among the employees increase productivity, because the employees are happier and healthier relationship wise. This creates overall more motivation in the workplace. Another practice companies that use onboarding fall into, is having too high expectations. When employing a new employee, employers tend to get much too eager and stressed on hurrying up the acclimation process during onboarding. rushing this process can shortcut the training and overload the newcomer with too much responsibility without the knowhow on where to start or who to go to. This can lead to overly stressed employees, poor work quality, and a low retention rate. It is best to match the quality of work the employer expects with the amount of training that will be given to the employee. If an employee is not keeping up with production the employer will be able to monitor that and deal with it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Basic Model Of Visual Cryptography And The Extended Model Abstract Visual Cryptography is a type of cryptographic scheme used to encode a secret image into shadow images called shares or layers such that it can t be decrypted using the human visual system unless certain qualified subsets of the shares are used. The secret image is encoded without the use of any cryptographic computations. In this paper we will discuss the basic model of visual cryptography and the extended model; using the k out of n scheme. Keywords: Visual Cryptography, Extended Visual Cryptography. 1. Introduction Secret sharing is a scheme that permits a secret message to be shared among a set P of n participants. The secret is shared in such a way that only qualified subsets of P can recover the secret, any nonqualified subset has no information on the secret. We take into consideration, the problem of encrypting pictures and printed texts such that it is perfectly secure without the hassle of using cryptographic computations. In 1979, Shamir [7] and Blakley [8] introduced the concept of a threshold scheme. A (k, n) threshold scheme is a method whereby n pieces of information of a secret key k, called shares are distributed among n participants so that the k cannot be re constructed from the knowledge of fewer than k shares. In 1995 Naor and Shamir [1] proposed a new type of cryptographic scheme, which could encode and decode secret images without any cryptographic computations. Design And Hermeneutic Phenomenology Research Paradigm Has... 10.4.5 Critique The critique of this model derives principally from the criticisms that can be levelled at the research methodology, particularly its non positivist approach, although a rationale for the single case study design and hermeneutic phenomenology research paradigm has been made above (Ch 5,6). Within its own epistemological terms a legitimate criticism of such a model of management might derive more generally from its potential irrefutability, following Popper s criticism of the pseudosciences , where a counter example is re interpreted within the frame of the model so as not to contradict it, for example a non charismatic leader s behaviour might be reinterpreted as having elements of the charismatic process, although they not being obvious. A second critique might be made building on the assumption that managerial effectiveness within an organisation in predicated on their ability to lead, mobilise and direct subordinates. As a result, it might be argued that the model covers a very small element of the overall leadership and management process, focussing exclusively on the manager s activity and leadership with their own subordinate team, and missing the larger organisational function of the leader, their entrepreneurial activity, and engagement with supraordinate managers. This is an acknowledged failing, based upon Parson s collectivist notion of power (@@@@ above), and there are some speculations and proposals for further research noted below. ... The Waterview Connection Development (WCD) is a motorway connection between State Highways 16 and 20, which, in part, runs as tunnels.
