Flower Ornament Sutra Vs Buddhism Essay
Buddhism, on the other hand, understands the psychological nature of humans very deeply and
develops effective treatment methods. As revealed in the Flower Ornament Sutra [Avatamsaka Sutra],
Our perception Three Kingdoms arise from the mind, so do Twelve Links of Dependent Origination;
birth and death come from the mind, which are extinguished when the mind is put to rest . If we view
Buddhism in this lens, itself in conglomeration with psychology has much to reveal about both
practices (Williams Oerberg, Elizabeth, 2012).
The journey home that Buddhists refer to as the privilege of enlightenment, the ultimate truth, is called
the paramattha. The Paramattha is not the same journey as other faiths profess, because other faiths,
like the science known as psychology, emphasize outside influence, in one way or another, in the
ancient long search for understanding. Understanding life, afterlife, existence, thought, personality,
behavior, and the unknown. These latter truth seekers have overlapping roads of distinction on their
charted course that is not an essential part of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Buddhist path is more personal. It combines the participation of both the researcher and that
whom which is being researched, to come together within the body, mind, spirit exchange of one
individual...the seeker. The Buddhist, unlike the psychologist, has a condition of established
foundation which is impossible to invade or ascertain in a scientific environment of practitioners, that
is a knowing and following of spiritual awakening. The Buddhists quest begins with this necessary
desire, Bodhi, which means awakening. It is a long journey home because I am now realizing that I
may have spent my 22 years on the earth being asleep, and I too, want to be truly alive and truly

Anatomy And Physiology Study Guide
1. Distinguish between anatomy and physiology
Anatomy is the study of the structure and shape for the body and its parts and their relationship to one
another. Anatomy is most commonly related to gross anatomical studies because in these studies
preserved animals and their organs are dissected and examined. And microscopic anatomy is the study
of body structures that can only be seen through a microscope. Physiology is the study of how the
body and its parts work or function. Physiology is similar to anatomy in a way that they have many
subdivisions. Physiology has; neurophysiology which explain the function of the nervous system. It

The War Of The Vietnam War
Between 1964 and 1975 the heightened tensions over the Vietnam war caused many americans to
become divided on the actions taken by the government across seas. Americans questioned whether
the government could be trusted. The feeling of betrayal and government secrecy created the
Credibility Gap, in which many americans believed that the government no longer was for the people,
but for anything else that would benefit the government. The Vietnam War exacerbated the gap
between the pro war traditionalists and anti war liberals along with an increase in military action,
causing controversy over government spending; as a whole these factors established a sense of distrust
between the American government and its people. The Credibility Gap expanded during the Vietnam
War causing citizens to question the truthfulness of president Johnson s administration and the reports
on events that were occurring overseas in Vietnam. When Daniel Ellsberg released the Pentagon
Papers to the media in 1971 he increased the public s distrust in the American government. The
pentagon papers, originally named Report of the Office of the Secretary of Defense Vietnam Task
Force by Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, contained secret government reports detailing the
decisions made in the Vietnam War under the Kennedy and Johnson administration. Also written
within the report was a detailed layout of operation Rolling Thunder, in which the United States
strategically bombed north Vietnam from

Write An Essay On Coqui Frog
Invasive and Dangerous: The Coqui Frog Recently, an invasive and lilliputian frog has had a
detrimental effect on the Hawaiian environment. Originally from Puerto Rico, the amphibian arrived
in Hawaii and spread like a plague. Such a small frog cannot have that big of an impact, right? Wrong.
The Coqui frog is a damaging invasive species of the Hawaiian islands due to its lack of natural
predators and adaptability, dangerous eating habits, and its easy distribution among the state. One
reason the Coqui Frog is especially harmful to Hawaii s many ecosystems is because they are
adaptable and have no natural predators. For example, the Hawaii Invasive Species Council states the
frog has No natural predators to keep populations in check (and no natural competitors), populations
have reached 55,000 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the Hawaii Invasive Species Council, Coqui frogs do not travel very far on their own,
but when given the chance to hop on a nursery plant, flowers, or vehicle, they can quickly spread.
Most coqui arrive on new islands through infested nursery plants and flowers. Intra island, coqui
travel by the movement of plants by humans and may hitch a ride on vehicles (Coqui). In other words,
the frog will latch on to a variety of human transportations and expand their boundaries. Furthermore,
Coquis are nocturnal, so the dissemination of the frogs is partially affiliated with the motion and
relocation of various house plants (Plant). Residents of Hawaii are evidently a large reason the frog
has the ability to grow in numbers and located across the state. Some people when coming across the
frog relocate and release it, spreading the frog an even farther distance (which it is illegal to provide
transportation to the amphibians) (Plant). Consequently, the frog populations are growing and will
continue, unless residents of Hawaii are cooperative in reducing the spread of the

Sarojini Naidu Essay
Poetry is a pleasure giving medium. This medium is handled by different poets in the world. Most of
the poets in India present their poetry in their mother tongue only. Those who present poetry in
languages other their own have not succeeded so well as Sarojini Naidu.
There are not many in India who have written poetry in English. Among them, Sarojini Naidu stands
first. Her poems are praised not only in India, but all over the world.
Though she has written poems on religion, country, women s freedom, etc., her poems on nature
occupy the first place in her poetry. Even in sorrow, her nature poems glow with a touch of her
suffering.
Sarojini Naidu was a distinguished poet, renowned freedom fighter and one of the great orators of her
time. She was famously known as Bharatiya Kokila (The Nightingale of India). Sarojini Naidu was
the first Indian woman to become the President of the Indian National Congress and the first woman
to become the governor of a state in India.

Yes, Uber has many different divisions, that allow for the organization to best meet the needs for the
market. By having definite divisions, it allows Uber to specifically state the roles of that division.
Therefore, it allows for accountability to be taken by each division. Responsibility can be taken by
that area. Relating to organization culture, it allows for Uber to create subcultures internally that
allows that division to best reach their goals. Most importantly, it allows for organizational efficiency.
By having so many divisions, Uber can quickly reach the needs of the internal and external
stakeholders.
According to the textbook, a core competency is a manager s skills and abilities in value creation
activities such as manufacturing, R D, managing new technology and organizational design and
change. (pg.12) These core competencies cause a competitive advantage which is the ability of one
company to outperform another because its managers are able to create more value from the resources
at their disposal (pg. 12). Uber s core competency is creating a customer user face that is universally
functional. Their applications allow for access to both high and low end services that are reliable such
UberX and UberBlack. Also, the overall business operation is capable for their services and competent
in their management relationships. Another core competency is the way in which Uber delivers its ride

St. Manuel Bueno
Miguel de Unamuno s novel Saint Manuel Bueno, Martyr, arguably considered the masterpiece of his
literary career, challenges the reader to consider questions of immortality and truth. To answer who
should have access to the truth of life after death, Unamuno presents an intriguing relationship
between authority and freedom. I argue that the role of authority and authority figures involves
possessing truth, and deceiving the masses from this truth by providing false consolation and denying
the immortality of the soul. In contrast, freedom is limited to this earthly life, where people cannot
rebel against authority or have a concept of faith, and are convinced by the church authorities actions.
The Church authorities in Saint Manuel are miserable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of leading people to likewise question the immortality of life, he instead uses his authority so
that the townspeople of Valverde de Lucerna never question life after death. While this consoles both
Don Manuel and the townspeople, it is ultimately a false freedom. The people are trapped within the
freedom of an earthly life, cannot rebel against the Church authority, and have a concept of faith that
rests on outward appearances and comfort rather than truth. However, this is in direct contrast with
how Unamuno himself lived his life. Unamuno often used socialist tactics to bring the people in his
town of Salamanca to consider life after death (Nozick 25). The freedom Don Manuel constructs also
contrasts with Unamuno s own ideal about freedom. Unamuno advocated a religious individualism
that seeks eternal life, while Don Manuel represents a worldly freedom that lives for comfort. In
conclusion, Unamuno in Saint Manuel uses Don Manuel as a contrasting figure to his own ideals, in
order to show the reader the reality of a life that does not strive for the end of eternal

Physics of an Acoustic Guitar Essay
Physics of an Acoustic Guitar
I have been watching my husband play the guitar in a band for five years and he has made it look so
easy to make such beautiful music. Most guitar players have progressed with the technology of
electric guitars, but when my husband picks up an acoustic guitar and starts to play a song for just me,
I hear his love for me in the sounds that he produces. Imagine my surprise when a physics class
conveyed to me that there was much more to his playing than I had imagined.
The sound that a guitar makes is easily recognizable to many people because the physics of the
acoustic guitar is mostly universal. The noticeable distinctions are the result of various wavelengths
and the harmonics that are created by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An antinode is present at the furthest amplitude above the string and at the furthest amplitude below
the wave. A full wavelength has two nodes and two antinodes. On a fixed string, nodes are created at
both ends, so the fundamental, or longest, wavelength that could be produced, would be twice the
length of the guitar string. Harmonics are determined by whole number multiples of the fundamental
wavelength. 3 They can vary in speed and have any number of wavelengths that can be generated with
nodes at both ends. For example, the first harmonic would be a full wavelength and have two nodes
and two antinodes. Each additional harmonic would add an additional half of a wavelength to the
string.
The relationship between the wavelength and the speed of the wave creates different frequencies from
the guitar. The frequency is the number of wavelengths that occur per second. The equation is set up
as the frequency equals the speed of the waves divided by the wavelength, or f = u § l . Frequency is
measured in Hertz (Hz) and humans can generally hear between 20Hz and 20,000Hz, depending on
the individual.
The various frequencies formed on a guitar are attributed to the difference in the strings on the guitar.
The strings, in order from the bottom to the top, are: E, B, G, D, A, and E. Their fundamental
frequencies are listed respectively as: 329.6Hz, 246.9Hz, 196Hz, 146.8Hz, 110Hz, and

Evaluation Of A Quantitative Correlational Research Design
Methodology
Design Overview
A quantitative correlational research design was used to measure the effect that living
situations/familial support has on student s GPAs. An online survey (Appendix 2) was used to collect
data on independent and dependent variables. The independent variables included living situation (e.g.
living with parents, spouse/significant other, spouse and kids, friends/roommates, alone, or with
grandparents), support systems available to the students in the DSN program, interruptions that were
experienced by the students, the students preferred location to study, and how many hours a week was
spent studying. The independent variables were factors that were considered to have a possible effect
on GPA. The primary dependent variable was GPA; though how many hours a week spent studying
was also used as a dependent variable against the independent variable of familial support.
Sample and Testing
An online survey consisting of ten questions was sent out to all students enrolled at DSN. A total of
638 students were invited to participate in the study. Students from the DSN Bachelor of Science in
Nursing (BSN) completion program, BSN first degree program, Associate Degree of Nursing (AND)
program, and Licensed Practicing Nurse (LPN) to ADN program participated in the survey resulting in
a total sample size of 100 students.

Occupiers Liability from the Common Law
The first point to note when analysing occupiers liability is that originally it was separate to the
general principles of negligence which were outlined in Donoghue v Stevenson .The reason for this

This was evident in the case of Rooney v Connolly where liability was imposed on a priest when a girl
that he had encouraged to visit the local church injured herself stretching over lighted candles. The
permission to enter the land as a licensee may be expressed or implied. An issue arises when the
permission is implied. Often children entered premises without the permission of the landowner
without the objection of the landlord. But did this make them a licensee or a trespasser? Fitzgibbon J
put it eloquently in Kenny v ESB An open gate or an unfenced field does not amount to an invitation
or licence urbi et orbi to enter upon private property Often the courts would have to interpret
particularly in cases involving minors whether tolerance could be implied as amounting to permission
to enter the land. The courts would often analyse the tolerance issue in deciding cases as best to
deliver justice in cases where there was no clear outcome.
The fourth category is that of a trespasser. This category has radically developed in the last thirty
years. Originally a trespasser was owed a very limited duty of care. The duty owed to a trespasser was
that they could not be injured intentionally and not to act with reckless disregard to their person or
property . The idea behind such a narrow duty was that a trespasser was illegal on the property and
that the occupier should owe little

Symbolic Role Played by Cosmic Imagery in Romeo and Juliet Cosmic imagery and allusions to stars
have been used for centuries to describe divine and supernatural events on earth. In the play Romeo
and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, cosmic references are used to amplify the deep emotions of love
Romeo and Juliet feel for each other. Vivid cosmic imagery intensifies emotions of love and hate,
bringing the play to life. Cosmic references include the idea of fate written in the stars, Romeo and
Juliet s blossoming love revolving around stars and the ironic role played by celestial objects, leading

Their abandonment of stars leads to their early demise as they attempted to control their own lives.
Stars are known for their beauty and dazzling effect which is related to fate as well. This idea of fate
enhances their love for each other and the cosmic imagery adds a beautiful touch.
Later, Romeo foreshadows his untimely demise in Act 1 when he claims Some consequence yet
hanging in the stars/ shall begin his fearful date. (1.4.107 108). Romeo knows that it is fate who
directs his sail, but his trust in the stars quickly diminishes throughout the play, although his frequent
references to cosmic objects remain. They both believe in fate, but as trouble arises from their
relationship, they lose hope and deny the stars as guides. Cosmic imagery is used by Romeo and Juliet
to describe each other, adding a sense of unique intimacy to their love. But the stars never fated for
them to be together for eternity, ruining their majestic love story. Throughout Romeo and Juliet s
flourishing relationship, celestial imagery is used when talking about each other and bringing out the
pure love they have for one another. Through a combination of metaphors, personification, poetry,
similes, and allusions, their emotions for each other are shown with celestial imagery being the center
theme of their love. Romeo speaks delicately about Juliet s eyes when he acclaims Two of the fairest
stars in all the heaven, (2.2.15) Romeo refers

Diverty And Poverty In Haiti
UCI Haiti Manje? Manje? With empty, open hands and pleading eyes, I am asked by a five year old
Haitian if I have any food. His rounded stomach is malnourished from eating mud pies. It is mid
morning, when this child should be in school, but instead he is at home. In the background, his mom
and three siblings outside their one room house with mud floors and walls, a thatch roof, and open
windows. The poverty level in Haiti is at a heartbreaking high which can be lessened by becoming
educated and acting on the problem so Haitians in need can reap major benefits. Hunger,
homelessness, poverty, and lack of education grip the entire country of Haiti. More than two million
Haitians are homeless. That number significantly rose when an earthquake struck the island in 2010.
Because so many people lost their homes in the earthquake, IDP (internally displaced people) camps
were set up for those who did not have adequate shelter. (Last two sentences: Amnesty.org) However,
IDP camps are randomly evacuated, leaving thousands of people instantly homeless and on their own.
Most of the population lives in rural areas. A majority of the houses are two room huts with mud walls
and floors. The roofs are thatched with grasses and palm leaves or covered with sheet metal if it can be
afforded. The lack of housing or quality of housing leads to many grumbling stomachs. Many Haitians
are malnourished and starving. It is reported that over 100,000 children under the age of five suffer

Association between Air Polluiton and Lung Cancer
Many epidemiologic studies have found an association between ambient air pollution and lung cancer.
This evidence lead the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) to report air pollution as
a category 1 or definite cause of cancer. The IARC reviewed over 1000 studies from five continents
and covering many different scientific fields. They concluded that air pollution is linked to increased
cancer incidence, with lung cancer being the most prevalent (Pope, 2013).
Air pollution occurs when the air is contaminated by foreign substances. These substances can be
liquid or solid and they are small enough that they remain suspended in the air. Some of the substances
can be toxic chemicals which can include sulphur dioxide (SO2), oxides of nitrogen (NOx), ozone
(O3), volatile organic compounds and suspended particulate matter (PM).
When talking about air pollution we categorize the particles with the term particulate matter (PM).
Suspended particulate matter (PM) is divided into three groups based on the diameter of the particle.
PM2.5 refers to particles with a diameter less that 2.5 micrometers (µm), PM10 classifies particles
with a diameter between 2.5 and 10 µm, and PM10 defines particles with a diameter greater than 10
µm. The relative risk of developing cancer as a result of exposure to air pollution is generally small,
but the attributable risk (relative risk multiplied by the number of exposed people) is high. Because
exposure is so high ambient air pollution

Beauty As A Standard Of Beauty Analysis
Given the societal view of whiteness as a standard of beauty, both Maureen Peal and Pecola Breedlove
struggle with distorted self perceptions and self hatred. Ultimately able to project both her hatred and
her insecurities elsewhere, Maureen is able to bloom despite adversity. Pecola, however, internalizes
the hatred at the hands of others and is left only to wither. Despite her efforts to beautify her
appearance through the use of expensive attire, Maureen Peal is unable to change the color of her skin.
Consequently, she is unable to live up to society s standard of beauty, defined by whiteness. A young
girl with a light dark complexion, Maureen Peal adopts a distorted self perception from an early age,
as she has been conditioned by society to view her blackness as inferiority. Wearing expensive
clothing, Maureen tries to compensate for what society perceives as a lack of beauty, Fluffy sweaters
the color of lemon drops tucked into skirts with pleats so orderly they astounded us. Brightly colored
knee socks with white borders, a brown velvet coat trimmed in white rabbit fur, and a matching muff
(62). Wearing brightly colored clothing, Maureen reminds her classmates of springtime. Adorned in
vibrant knee socks and fluffy sweaters, Maureen is admired by her peers. Her clothing is orderly,
establishing a sense of control that her classmates can only dream of. However, not even Maureen s
expensive clothing can change the fact that her skin is black. From the very first

Norwegian Whaling Essay
Norwegian Whaling
Modern commercial whaling is continuously being over exploited as whaling companies strive to
maximize their profits despite international protest and a ban by the International Commission. Many
various species of whales have been extinct, and the relatively few whales that remain are extremely
vulnerable, and the factors that led to their over exploitation in the past have not changed. Norway,
one of the several countries involved in illegal whaling, has again refused to accept the international
moratorium on whaling and has announced that its catch quotas for whales have risen. In 1995
Norwegian whales caught 217 whales out of a quota of 232. In 1996 the quota was 425. Now, on May
27, 1997 the whaling season will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Several justifications that Norway and Japan have for the endless massacre of these innocent whales
are: it is a long established Norwegian tradition of whaling, Japan hunts whales under scientific
research , and Both countries argue that minke whales are not endangered and that an uncontrolled
population of the whales would threaten valuable fish stocks.
However, none of this arguments use scientific evidence to justify the killings of these whales. In fact
the cloak of tradition in Norway is being used to disguise the fact that the price of whale meat is $290
a kilogram, which is a very lucrative profit. Japan s excuse for scientific research is a poor one,
considering money is made when the whale meat is sold to restaurants and wholesalers after the so
called scientific research is completed. In addition, the relationship between fish stocks and whales
need not be questioned. The fishery is a commercial industry, not a subsistence way of life. Minke
whales are not participating in a commercial industry.
The unreasonable justifications for murder cannot be accepted by any decent human being because
whales are mammals, not fish, but they have been historically treated as fish by the commercial
whaling industry. A great number of fish species reproduce by laying an enormous quantity of eggs
into the sea for fertilization by males. Even though only a small percentage

Evaluation Of Huawei s Expansion Strategy
Option on Future Operations
In consideration of Huawei s expansion strategy in Canada over the last six years, Huawei has a high
competitive strength within the nation and Canada is high in attractiveness to continued operations
(Celly et al., 2015, p. 28; Daniels et al., 2015, p. 597). However, Huawei s globalization strategy
remains under pressure from the adverse effects of the U.S., Australian and Indian governments
exclusion of Huawei from government procurement (Celly et al., 2015, p. 1). Therefore, Huawei must
leverage the positive relationships and image it has built within Canada to negate the spread of the
negative brand image perpetuated by the U.S. Congress report. As such, two options are presented to
further bolster the positive image of Huawei within Canada and abroad.
The first option is to create a joint venture with Ericsson to collaborate on enterprise solutions
(Daniels et al., 2015, p. 592). Considering both organizations enterprise solutions business segments
are a relatively small portion of the businesses, it would stand to assume that together, both businesses
could develop an enterprise solutions industry through collaborative research and development (Celly
et al., 2015, pp. 19 26; Daniels et al., 2015, p. 583). This is strategically attractive, as Ericsson is the
preferred vendor of Canada s largest telecom operator, Rogers (Celly et al. 2015, pp. 24 25). This
strategic alliance would open Huawei to Rogers for future business, lending to

large and massive demands of oil (Iron Mountain, 2016). However, the above challenges can be
addressed in the following ways: Pipelines used in the transportation of crude oil should be correctly
placed (Iron Mountain, 2016). This requires good planning to be done by the local authorities to
ensure that the pipelines are set up well. For instance, pipelines should not be closely located to the
areas where people reside or carry out their daily activities because explosions are likely to occur any

There should, therefore, be a way of letting specific responders to be aware of the train schedules and
routes. There is also a mobile app called Ask Rail, which is developed for the emergence of
responders providing access to data relating to the train with the incidents (Molinski, 2015). This gives
the responders a chance to know about the train which has had an incident and rush to rescue any
victim of the incident. This increases the safety of the railroad. Since there are no such measures that
have been put across in the tanker truck, the railroad is a better method of oil transportation. New rules
should be introduced for the use of trains in oil transportation. There has been debate over new rules
of transporting oil via the railroad. These rules require that trains be installed with new brakes that will
stop hazardous materials that are flammable (Stevens, 2015). There have been appeals to challenge the
new rules. However, the safety administration denies these calls since their aim is to reduce incidents
in the railroad during transportation of oil. This has increased concern about the transportation of oil
over the railroad (Stevens, 2015). Once the railroad has been implemented in this company, new rules
that are strict have to be set before the trains are used. Appendix

Essay about Student-Centered Learning
Student Centered Learning missing works cited
Definition(s)
There are several ways that student centered learning can be described, and they all lead back to the
same basic idea, the student. First, student centered learning can be defined as a discipline that
involves the interaction of a team of students that experience creative learning to be used in the real
world (Thornburg, 1995). Thornburg (1995) also mention that students are essential to the classroom,
just like a team member is essential to a game. He says that teachers are part of the definition of
student centered learning, but they are not the main attraction. The students are the focus, and the
teacher is the one who can assist among small groups of students. Eaton ... Show more content on

Research and development helps with predicting the cost and the effectiveness of the approach on the
system. The idea is that the research and development will increase students future accomplishment.
The first approach of student centered learning that will be discussed is a teaching method called the
Learning Cycle. A study was done with fifth grade students learning about sound. There were some
students who were taught using the Learning Cycle, and some students were taught using the textbook
approach. To see which method produced a greater understanding of sound the students were
randomly selected, and an interview method was used in both groups to see what the students
previously knew about sound. Then, in the instruction part of the procedure an instructor was used in
both methods. In the Learning Cycle approach there were three phases: exploration, concept
introduction and concept application . During these three phases the students worked together in
groups while discussing their ideas and using manipulatives to act out the concepts. Also, the teacher
would act as a facilitator, while the students discussed their ideas, and created more ideas and
situations to figure out. During the lessons, the students were in active control and they could lead the
lesson with their ideas and conclusions. The students were very excited to work together and the
groups encouraged some of the students to share their ideas more willingly (Barman, Barman 1996).

The Disintegration Of The Soviet Union
The disintegration of the Soviet Union in the winter of 1991 sparked various reactions among Soviet
citizens, government officials, Western onlookers and the rest of the world. The Soviet Union was
once one of the most powerful military empires in the world suddenly saw itself crumble to the
ground. Mikhail Gorbachev, the dynamic leader at the helm of the Communist Party of the United
Soviet Socialists Republic, (USSR), at the time, was a key contributor to its demise. Gorbachev, born
into a poor family in an agricultural community, emerged through the rankings of Soviet leadership,
finding himself at the top of the Communist Party. He established a new era and a new beginning of
reform. Although former Soviet leaders left problems with the government that set the stage for a
collapse, Mikhail Gorbachev was responsible for the final dissolution of the USSR, due to his reforms
in foreign policy, domestic policy, society and the economy of Russia. Long before Mikhail
Gorbachev was elected into power in 1985, his predecessors such as Vladimir Lenin and Joseph Stalin
formed a Communist regime that would later become a broken, unsustainable system. Both former
Soviet leaders had policies of increasing repression on their own people, which led to problems within
the political, economic and social systems of the empire. Born in 1870, Vladimir Lenin grew up to
become a huge supporter of Marxism or communism, a radical idea fashioned by the revolutionary

Essay The Music of Charles Ives
In 1894, a young, quietly colorful Charles Ives enters Yale University. He enters with a strong musical
foundation provided by his father and community and a vision of what he thinks music can be.
Horatio Parker, Ives s composition professor unashamedly informs Ives that his vision of music seems
blurry, perhaps even nauseating, to the astute, cultured musician. Ives quickly develops anger towards
Parker s traditional tutelage and rarely recognizes the positive effects Parker has on his compositions.
Here begins the battle between new and old that Ives and Parker embarked upon during Ives s college
years, however the story starts and ends far from their four short years together.

American composers, like William Billings, were able to write, for the most part, free from existing
patterns.
It wasn t until the mid 1800s that word came from Europe about these high art composers, perhaps
scaring these once free New World composers. From then on, the trend of aspiring American
composers was to make the pilgrimage to Europe for training. Composers such as George Chadwick
were some of the first to make the trip. Chadwick describes his studies abroad as having to harmonize
Bach chorales for four years . Correct voice leading and harmony was probably most accurate when
confused with that of Bach. This type of analysis and composition was brought back as a trend, just as
one might bring back the latest European fashion from Milan.
Even with composers writing one hundred years prior to the Second New England School, American
music was still in its infancy, often turning to the far more advanced European model for guidance. I
would imagine this to be similar to wanting to be taught how to hold chopsticks from someone
directly from Japan as opposed to someone from Uruguay, even though the person from Uruguay may
have better form that the person from Japan. Along with American composers traveling to Europe for
training, the New England School often sought guidance from Europeans who had emigrated to the
United States, namely those from Germany. I imagine that the Second School had full intentions of

Chimney Sweeper By William Blake Analysis
Sociologist Max Weber recognized that, as technology expands, as does the gap between the lower
class and rich. His studies came from watching the Industrial Revolution take place and the social
system change from feudalism to capitalism. Similarly, William Blake, who lived in Industrial
Revolution era England, witnessed this widening gap firsthand. Commenting on the inhumane labor
practices common to the poor in 19th century England, he wrote 2 versions of a poem called The
Chimney Sweeper in different collections Songs of Innocence (1789) and Songs of Experience (1794).
With these poems, Blake comments on the practice of using small children as chimney sweepers,
drawing attention to the inhumanity and immorality of the practice and the way it s overlooked. In the
Songs of Innocence version, Blake writes a narrative from the point of view of a child laborer. The
tone is full of youthful innocence, which harshly contrasts the somber truth of the speaker s situation.
The speaker is a young child, as implied in clever onomatopoeia in line 4, Could scarcely cry weep!
weep! weep! weep! In these lines, the speaker means both literally a weep, as well as the word sweep,
which, if said by a young child, may sound like weep. With this clever word choice, Blake invites
readers to profoundly pity the poor child, as he is so young that he cannot even speak properly, yet
sent to his death anyway. The child s innocence continues to be of presence, shaping the poem. In later

The Buildings In Ancient Greece
The buildings in Ancient Greece had many different uses during that era. From religious, domestic,
funerary to civic and recreational, they all had specific purposes. Various materials were used
throughout Greek architecture depending on what the building was used for. For example, limestone
and marble would be used for the walls and columns on public buildings. On the other hand, they
would use wood for roof beams and unbaked brick for walls in homes and terra cotta for roof tiles.
The details located on buildings would usually be bronze metal material. The golden section was

was used in most architectural buildings. Many people believe

Technology s presence in the classroom is marked by a TV and DVD player that are mounted in the

Relationship Between Burnout And Work Engagement
Relationship between Burnout and Work Engagement
A significant negative relationship with Emotional Exhaustion was found for engagement (r= 0.35, p
0.01) based on the above results. From the results, academics who reported a lesser degree of
engagement in their work are the ones who are more emotionally exhausted. Here, burnout shows a
moderate inverse relationship with engagement, in that the higher degree of burnout reported the
lesser the engagement. This result supported the first hypothesis presented in the study, i.e. burnout is
negatively correlated with work engagement.
Relationship between Burnout and Pressure to Publish
In Table 6 above, results show Pressure to Publish to have a significant and positive relationship with
that of Emotional Exhaustion (r = 0.36, p 0.01) indicating that academics who reported higher feelings
of being under pressure to publish displayed higher levels of Emotional Exhaustion than those who
reported lower feelings of being under pressure. Or in other words, as an academic s perceived
Pressure to Publish increased, so did their levels of Emotional Exhaustion. According to this result,
academics levels of burnout is indeed affected by their perceived feelings of pressure to publish
supporting the second hypothesis of the study.
Relationship between Burnout and Resilience
In regards to Emotional Exhaustion and Resilience, a significant negative relationship was found (r =

The Beet Queen by Louise Erdrich is a story based on the time that the dust bowl was happening in
the year of 1932 which was the year where 14 dust storms were recorded. In the first chapter called
The Branch we have an introduction of the characters. In the first chapter Erdrich uses a
compassionate tone as well as being very descriptive all through the chapter. These two things made
the reader be able to picture everything in their head as they read the passage causing them to have a
better image of what was going on in that chapter. Erdrich uses a compassionate tone all throughout
this chapter. Knowing that the story is based in the time of the great depression and the dust bowl we
already get a depressing vibe from reading the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When describing Karl and his younger sister Mary she put in a lot of effort, adding in words one hasn
t read as a way to describe someone. The boy was a tall fourteen, hunched with his sudden growth and
very pale. His mouth was sweetly curved, his skin fine and girlish. His sister was only eleven years
old, but already she was so short and ordinary that it was obvious she would be this way all her life.
Her name was square and practical as the rest of her. Mary. (13 19). With his type of description the
reader can clearly picture both of the kids knowing how different they are from one another. Erdrich
uses the word sweetly to describe the curve that karl s lips had, something that is unusual to find in a
description of a person. In the opposite direction Mary is described as being an ordinary girl. His
cheeks went pink, he stretched his arms out like a sleepwalker, and in one long transfixed motion he
floated to the tree and buried his face in the white petals. (46 49). In this sentence, which describes the
way Karl was hypnotized by the tree, Erdrich describes Karl behaving like a sleepwalker something
we could clearly picture in our heads. We can see how Karl fell in love with the tree by the way that
scene was described, in many cartoon one has seen these things happen to a character when they fall
in love making this

Taking a Look at Ulysses S. Grant
Ulysses S. Grant Ulysses S. Grant, the eighteenth president of the United States, was a man of many
notions. Grant endured a long journey from horseman to general. This journey continued all the way
to President of the Unites States. From being born in a small white cottage, all the way to piecing
together the Union, Grant has done it all. In the sixty three years that Grant was alive, he made many
positive impacts and shaped our country for the better. Born Ulysses Hiram Grant, on April 27, 1822,
Grant was the son of Jesse Root Grant and Hannah Simpson (Ulysses S. Grant). Soon after Ulysses
turned of age, with the help of local congressman, his father enrolled him into the West Point Military
Academy (Williams, Jean Kinney). Grant had to abandon his life of tannery and horsemanship, and
move from Ohio to West Point, New York (Humanist Profile). Upon graduation from West Point in
1843, he was admitted into the U.S Army as a second lieutenant. He was sent to post in St Louis, and
he met Julia Dent, his future spouse. Under the Polk administration, Grant was sent to Texas to serve
under General Zachary Taylor in the Mexican War (Williams, Jean Kinney). After resigning from the
army, he returned to Julia in 1854 (Ulysses S. Grant). Grant was living a rough life after the Mexican
War, but once the Civil War began, Grant enlisted for the Union Army (Williams, Jean Kinney). Upon
Grant s return to the army, his prior experience and credentials granted him the position of

The Use Of Anabolic Steroids
Picture yourself being the best athlete in the world and in your sport. After you picture that imagine
how you would feel if you were caught with steroids and banned. Your reputation is tarnished and
everything you have done has gone to waste. This is what has happened to past athletes and is still
happening to present athletes. Athletes have been using steroids since the 70 s and use quickly
ascended in the 80 s and so forth into the early 2000 s. Steroids should not be able to be used by
Athletes. It not only gives athletes an unfair advantage but it also hurts their body and gives long term
effects. When leagues ban steroids they aren t just trying to stop cheating, they are trying to help
athletes have better and healthier bodies later ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some will argue that they are beneficial to the body and others will say they harm the body in a big
way. If each of us ought to be free to assume risks that we think are worth taking, shouldn t athletes
have the same freedom as anyone else?(Simon, 1). This was said by a professor at hamilton college.
He suggests that people take their own risks and thinks that if athletes take steroids it s at their own
use. There are several reasons to ban performance enhancing drugs: respect for the rules of sports,
recognition that natural talents and their perfection are the point of sports, and the prospect of an arms
race in athletic performance.(Murray,6). President of Hastings center Thomas Murray thinks PED s
should be banned. He says athletes disrespect the sport while using drugs. He also says that taking
drugs destroys the description of sports and that is natural talent and perfection. He finally ends it by
saying drugs destroy the competitive nature of all sports and turns it into a game of

How Is Gabriel Conroy Presented In The Dead
1. James Joyce s short story, The Dead depicts characters that all are seemingly alive, yet, on the
inside, are very much dead. The main character, Gabriel Conroy, is more concerned with himself and
how he is perceived than anyone else. His conceited nature plays a major role in his epiphany at the
end of the story. After his wife, Gretta, divulges her childhood to Gabriel and the first young man who
ever loved her, Gabriel come to the realization that he had never felt like that himself towards any
woman but he knew that feeling must be love (p. 628). With Gabriel s sudden epiphany, the issue the
readers knew, but he did not, surfaced. Gabriel was dead inside and only cared about himself. Any
form of love he ever gave was to himself to boost his own egotistical personality. 2. Pathetic Fallacy is
a literary technique used in the setting to reflect the feelings for the characters. In terms of Helena
Maria Viramontes s short story, The Moths, this technique is used to reflect Abuelita s character. In the
beginning, Abuelita s house was full of life, having a garden full of avocados, sweet potatoes, and
chayotes. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alphonse Daudet s short story, A Game of Billiards, is a satire on war and everyone involved in it. It
mocks the folly of the soldiers on the battlefield. They sit and wait for their Marshal to give direct
orders to attack and fight the incoming militants. Even as the opposing military approached, they do
not move and allow themselves to me ruthlessly murdered, they await orders from headquarters, but
none come (p. 31). Their Marshal is ignoring their many attempts to contact him, simply because he
wants to win a game of billiards. He allows his entire regime to be murdered for his own mistakes.
The entire idea of war, on the other hand, is seen as a vice. Men huddle in close quarters in order to
take the lives of other men. Innocent people are mercilessly killed for something that, in the grand
scheme of life, is

Persuasive Essay On Donald Trumps
There are any reasons why hillary clinton should have won. Im am going to state only a few reasons
why donald trump should have lost. Hillary even won the popular vote and still lost the election to a
rapist a sexist and a racist. And the many other horrible things that donald trump is. Donald trump
violates a lot of the constitution not letting people have the same rights. Deporting people who are
citizens just because they look wrong to him. He s a jerk and bully he doesn t care what other people
want just what he wants. When he says he will make america great again no it should be he will make
america bad again . All he ever does is criticize people around him. He doesn t care what they think all
he cares about is himself. He goin got cause a war with someone (most likely iraq).
He s a horrible person and i don t know how he is president. Another reason that donald trump should
have won is the fact the hillary won the popular vote is crazy. That has only happened 5 times in the
entire history of the constitution. Everyone agrees that he is a gigantic asshole. Thousands of people
protest trump being president to this very day because they think he is a threat to this country. Many of
the facts that donald trump states are complete nonsense or utter lunacy is said by many ... Show more

screwed into a nuclear war. Im my opinion hillary should have won because the fact we have the
electoral college is the only reason he won. Also he supports only 2 of the 27 amendments and
disregards all the other ones. He wants to deport people out of the united states just because of their
religion and race or color. donald trump only cares about himself and he want people who don t look

  • 2. Flower Ornament Sutra Vs Buddhism Essay Buddhism, on the other hand, understands the psychological nature of humans very deeply and develops effective treatment methods. As revealed in the Flower Ornament Sutra [Avatamsaka Sutra], Our perception Three Kingdoms arise from the mind, so do Twelve Links of Dependent Origination; birth and death come from the mind, which are extinguished when the mind is put to rest . If we view Buddhism in this lens, itself in conglomeration with psychology has much to reveal about both practices (Williams Oerberg, Elizabeth, 2012). The journey home that Buddhists refer to as the privilege of enlightenment, the ultimate truth, is called the paramattha. The Paramattha is not the same journey as other faiths profess, because other faiths, like the science known as psychology, emphasize outside influence, in one way or another, in the ancient long search for understanding. Understanding life, afterlife, existence, thought, personality, behavior, and the unknown. These latter truth seekers have overlapping roads of distinction on their charted course that is not an essential part of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. The War Of The Vietnam War Between 1964 and 1975 the heightened tensions over the Vietnam war caused many americans to become divided on the actions taken by the government across seas. Americans questioned whether the government could be trusted. The feeling of betrayal and government secrecy created the Credibility Gap, in which many americans believed that the government no longer was for the people, but for anything else that would benefit the government. The Vietnam War exacerbated the gap between the pro war traditionalists and anti war liberals along with an increase in military action, causing controversy over government spending; as a whole these factors established a sense of distrust between the American government and its people. The Credibility Gap expanded during the Vietnam War causing citizens to question the truthfulness of president Johnson s administration and the reports on events that were occurring overseas in Vietnam. When Daniel Ellsberg released the Pentagon Papers to the media in 1971 he increased the public s distrust in the American government. The pentagon papers, originally named Report of the Office of the Secretary of Defense Vietnam Task Force by Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, contained secret government reports detailing the decisions made in the Vietnam War under the Kennedy and Johnson administration. Originally from Puerto Rico, the amphibian arrived in Hawaii and spread like a plague. Such a small frog cannot have that big of an impact, right? Wrong. The Coqui frog is a damaging invasive species of the Hawaiian islands due to its lack of natural predators and adaptability, dangerous eating habits, and its easy distribution among the state. One reason the Coqui Frog is especially harmful to Hawaii s many ecosystems is because they are adaptable and have no natural predators. For example, the Hawaii Invasive Species Council states the frog has No natural predators to keep populations in check (and no natural competitors), populations have reached 55,000 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the Hawaii Invasive Species Council, Coqui frogs do not travel very far on their own, but when given the chance to hop on a nursery plant, flowers, or vehicle, they can quickly spread. Most coqui arrive on new islands through infested nursery plants and flowers. Intra island, coqui travel by the movement of plants by humans and may hitch a ride on vehicles (Coqui). In other words, the frog will latch on to a variety of human transportations and expand their boundaries. Furthermore, Coquis are nocturnal, so the dissemination of the frogs is partially affiliated with the motion and relocation of various house plants (Plant). Residents of Hawaii are evidently a large reason the frog has the ability to grow in numbers and located across the state. Some people when coming across the frog relocate and release it, spreading the frog an even farther distance (which it is illegal to provide transportation to the amphibians) (Plant). Those who present poetry in languages other their own have not succeeded so well as Sarojini Naidu. There are not many in India who have written poetry in English. St. Manuel Bueno Miguel de Unamuno s novel Saint Manuel Bueno, Martyr, arguably considered the masterpiece of his literary career, challenges the reader to consider questions of immortality and truth. To answer who should have access to the truth of life after death, Unamuno presents an intriguing relationship between authority and freedom. I argue that the role of authority and authority figures involves possessing truth, and deceiving the masses from this truth by providing false consolation and denying the immortality of the soul. In contrast, freedom is limited to this earthly life, where people cannot rebel against authority or have a concept of faith, and are convinced by the church authorities actions. Instead of leading people to likewise question the immortality of life, he instead uses his authority so that the townspeople of Valverde de Lucerna never question life after death. The people are trapped within the freedom of an earthly life, cannot rebel against the Church authority, and have a concept of faith that rests on outward appearances and comfort rather than truth. However, this is in direct contrast with how Unamuno himself lived his life. Unamuno often used socialist tactics to bring the people in his town of Salamanca to consider life after death (Nozick 25). The freedom Don Manuel constructs also contrasts with Unamuno s own ideal about freedom. Unamuno advocated a religious individualism that seeks eternal life, while Don Manuel represents a worldly freedom that lives for comfort. Most guitar players have progressed with the technology of electric guitars, but when my husband picks up an acoustic guitar and starts to play a song for just me, I hear his love for me in the sounds that he produces. Imagine my surprise when a physics class conveyed to me that there was much more to his playing than I had imagined. An antinode is present at the furthest amplitude above the string and at the furthest amplitude below the wave. A full wavelength has two nodes and two antinodes. On a fixed string, nodes are created at both ends, so the fundamental, or longest, wavelength that could be produced, would be twice the length of the guitar string. Harmonics are determined by whole number multiples of the fundamental wavelength. 3 They can vary in speed and have any number of wavelengths that can be generated with nodes at both ends. For example, the first harmonic would be a full wavelength and have two nodes and two antinodes. Each additional harmonic would add an additional half of a wavelength to the string. The relationship between the wavelength and the speed of the wave creates different frequencies from the guitar. The frequency is the number of wavelengths that occur per second. The equation is set up as the frequency equals the speed of the waves divided by the wavelength, or f = u § l . Frequency is measured in Hertz (Hz) and humans can generally hear between 20Hz and 20,000Hz, depending on the individual. The various frequencies formed on a guitar are attributed to the difference in the strings on the guitar. The strings, in order from the bottom to the top, are: E, B, G, D, A, and E. This evidence lead the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) to report air pollution as a category 1 or definite cause of cancer. The IARC reviewed over 1000 studies from five continents and covering many different scientific fields. They concluded that air pollution is linked to increased cancer incidence, with lung cancer being the most prevalent (Pope, 2013). Air pollution occurs when the air is contaminated by foreign substances. These substances can be liquid or solid and they are small enough that they remain suspended in the air. Some of the substances can be toxic chemicals which can include sulphur dioxide (SO2), oxides of nitrogen (NOx), ozone (O3), volatile organic compounds and suspended particulate matter (PM). When talking about air pollution we categorize the particles with the term particulate matter (PM). Suspended particulate matter (PM) is divided into three groups based on the diameter of the particle. PM2.5 refers to particles with a diameter less that 2.5 micrometers (µm), PM10 classifies particles with a diameter between 2.5 and 10 µm, and PM10 defines particles with a diameter greater than 10 µm. Norway, one of the several countries involved in illegal whaling, has again refused to accept the international moratorium on whaling and has announced that its catch quotas for whales have risen. In 1995 Norwegian whales caught 217 whales out of a quota of 232. In 1996 the quota was 425. Now, on May 27, 1997 the whaling season will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Several justifications that Norway and Japan have for the endless massacre of these innocent whales are: it is a long established Norwegian tradition of whaling, Japan hunts whales under scientific research , and Both countries argue that minke whales are not endangered and that an uncontrolled population of the whales would threaten valuable fish stocks. However, none of this arguments use scientific evidence to justify the killings of these whales. In fact the cloak of tradition in Norway is being used to disguise the fact that the price of whale meat is $290 a kilogram, which is a very lucrative profit. Japan s excuse for scientific research is a poor one, considering money is made when the whale meat is sold to restaurants and wholesalers after the so called scientific research is completed. In addition, the relationship between fish stocks and whales need not be questioned. The fishery is a commercial industry, not a subsistence way of life. Minke whales are not participating in a commercial industry. The unreasonable justifications for murder cannot be accepted by any decent human being because whales are mammals, not fish, but they have been historically treated as fish by the commercial whaling industry. A great number of fish species reproduce by laying an enormous quantity of eggs into the sea for fertilization by males. Even though only a small percentage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Evaluation Of Huawei s Expansion Strategy Option on Future Operations In consideration of Huawei s expansion strategy in Canada over the last six years, Huawei has a high competitive strength within the nation and Canada is high in attractiveness to continued operations (Celly et al., 2015, p. 28; Daniels et al., 2015, p. 597). However, Huawei s globalization strategy remains under pressure from the adverse effects of the U.S., Australian and Indian governments exclusion of Huawei from government procurement (Celly et al., 2015, p. 1). Therefore, Huawei must leverage the positive relationships and image it has built within Canada to negate the spread of the negative brand image perpetuated by the U.S. Congress report. As such, two options are presented to further bolster the positive image of Huawei within Canada and abroad. The first option is to create a joint venture with Ericsson to collaborate on enterprise solutions (Daniels et al., 2015, p. 592). Considering both organizations enterprise solutions business segments are a relatively small portion of the businesses, it would stand to assume that together, both businesses could develop an enterprise solutions industry through collaborative research and development (Celly et al., 2015, pp. 19 26; Daniels et al., 2015, p. 583). This is strategically attractive, as Ericsson is the preferred vendor of Canada s largest telecom operator, Rogers (Celly et al. 2015, pp. 24 25). However, the above challenges can be addressed in the following ways: Pipelines used in the transportation of crude oil should be correctly placed (Iron Mountain, 2016). This requires good planning to be done by the local authorities to ensure that the pipelines are set up well. For instance, pipelines should not be closely located to the areas where people reside or carry out their daily activities because explosions are likely to occur any time. There should, therefore, be a way of letting specific responders to be aware of the train schedules and routes. There is also a mobile app called Ask Rail, which is developed for the emergence of responders providing access to data relating to the train with the incidents (Molinski, 2015). This gives the responders a chance to know about the train which has had an incident and rush to rescue any victim of the incident. This increases the safety of the railroad. Since there are no such measures that have been put across in the tanker truck, the railroad is a better method of oil transportation. New rules should be introduced for the use of trains in oil transportation. There has been debate over new rules of transporting oil via the railroad. These rules require that trains be installed with new brakes that will stop hazardous materials that are flammable (Stevens, 2015). There have been appeals to challenge the new rules. However, the safety administration denies these calls since their aim is to reduce incidents in the railroad during transportation of oil. This has increased concern about the transportation of oil over the railroad (Stevens, 2015). Once the railroad has been implemented in this company, new rules that are strict have to be set before the trains are used. Appendix Background Information This proposal is written ... • 31. Essay about Student-Centered Learning Student Centered Learning missing works cited Definition(s) There are several ways that student centered learning can be described, and they all lead back to the same basic idea, the student. First, student centered learning can be defined as a discipline that involves the interaction of a team of students that experience creative learning to be used in the real world (Thornburg, 1995). Thornburg (1995) also mention that students are essential to the classroom, just like a team member is essential to a game. He says that teachers are part of the definition of student centered learning, but they are not the main attraction. The students are the focus, and the teacher is the one who can assist among small groups of students. Eaton ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research and development helps with predicting the cost and the effectiveness of the approach on the system. The idea is that the research and development will increase students future accomplishment. The first approach of student centered learning that will be discussed is a teaching method called the Learning Cycle. A study was done with fifth grade students learning about sound. There were some students who were taught using the Learning Cycle, and some students were taught using the textbook approach. To see which method produced a greater understanding of sound the students were randomly selected, and an interview method was used in both groups to see what the students previously knew about sound. Then, in the instruction part of the procedure an instructor was used in both methods. In the Learning Cycle approach there were three phases: exploration, concept introduction and concept application . During these three phases the students worked together in groups while discussing their ideas and using manipulatives to act out the concepts. Also, the teacher would act as a facilitator, while the students discussed their ideas, and created more ideas and situations to figure out. During the lessons, the students were in active control and they could lead the lesson with their ideas and conclusions. The students were very excited to work together and the groups encouraged some of the students to share their ideas more willingly (Barman, Barman 1996). Dinan ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Disintegration Of The Soviet Union The disintegration of the Soviet Union in the winter of 1991 sparked various reactions among Soviet citizens, government officials, Western onlookers and the rest of the world. The Soviet Union was once one of the most powerful military empires in the world suddenly saw itself crumble to the ground. Mikhail Gorbachev, the dynamic leader at the helm of the Communist Party of the United Soviet Socialists Republic, (USSR), at the time, was a key contributor to its demise. Gorbachev, born into a poor family in an agricultural community, emerged through the rankings of Soviet leadership, finding himself at the top of the Communist Party. He established a new era and a new beginning of reform. Although former Soviet leaders left problems with the government that set the stage for a collapse, Mikhail Gorbachev was responsible for the final dissolution of the USSR, due to his reforms in foreign policy, domestic policy, society and the economy of Russia. Long before Mikhail Gorbachev was elected into power in 1985, his predecessors such as Vladimir Lenin and Joseph Stalin formed a Communist regime that would later become a broken, unsustainable system. Both former Soviet leaders had policies of increasing repression on their own people, which led to problems within the political, economic and social systems of the empire. American composers, like William Billings, were able to write, for the most part, free from existing patterns. It wasn t until the mid 1800s that word came from Europe about these high art composers, perhaps scaring these once free New World composers. From then on, the trend of aspiring American composers was to make the pilgrimage to Europe for training. Composers such as George Chadwick were some of the first to make the trip. Chadwick describes his studies abroad as having to harmonize Bach chorales for four years . Correct voice leading and harmony was probably most accurate when confused with that of Bach. This type of analysis and composition was brought back as a trend, just as one might bring back the latest European fashion from Milan. Even with composers writing one hundred years prior to the Second New England School, American music was still in its infancy, often turning to the far more advanced European model for guidance. I would imagine this to be similar to wanting to be taught how to hold chopsticks from someone directly from Japan as opposed to someone from Uruguay, even though the person from Uruguay may have better form that the person from Japan. Along with American composers traveling to Europe for training, the New England School often sought guidance from Europeans who had emigrated to the United States, namely those from Germany. • 34. Chimney Sweeper By William Blake Analysis Sociologist Max Weber recognized that, as technology expands, as does the gap between the lower class and rich. His studies came from watching the Industrial Revolution take place and the social system change from feudalism to capitalism. Similarly, William Blake, who lived in Industrial Revolution era England, witnessed this widening gap firsthand. Commenting on the inhumane labor practices common to the poor in 19th century England, he wrote 2 versions of a poem called The Chimney Sweeper in different collections Songs of Innocence (1789) and Songs of Experience (1794). With these poems, Blake comments on the practice of using small children as chimney sweepers, drawing attention to the inhumanity and immorality of the practice and the way it s overlooked. In the Songs of Innocence version, Blake writes a narrative from the point of view of a child laborer. The tone is full of youthful innocence, which harshly contrasts the somber truth of the speaker s situation. The speaker is a young child, as implied in clever onomatopoeia in line 4, Could scarcely cry weep! weep! weep! weep! In these lines, the speaker means both literally a weep, as well as the word sweep, which, if said by a young child, may sound like weep. With this clever word choice, Blake invites readers to profoundly pity the poor child, as he is so young that he cannot even speak properly, yet sent to his death anyway. The child s innocence continues to be of presence, shaping the poem. In later ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Relationship Between Burnout And Work Engagement Relationship between Burnout and Work Engagement A significant negative relationship with Emotional Exhaustion was found for engagement (r= 0.35, p 0.01) based on the above results. From the results, academics who reported a lesser degree of engagement in their work are the ones who are more emotionally exhausted. Here, burnout shows a moderate inverse relationship with engagement, in that the higher degree of burnout reported the lesser the engagement. This result supported the first hypothesis presented in the study, i.e. burnout is negatively correlated with work engagement. Relationship between Burnout and Pressure to Publish In Table 6 above, results show Pressure to Publish to have a significant and positive relationship with that of Emotional Exhaustion (r = 0.36, p 0.01) indicating that academics who reported higher feelings of being under pressure to publish displayed higher levels of Emotional Exhaustion than those who reported lower feelings of being under pressure. Or in other words, as an academic s perceived Pressure to Publish increased, so did their levels of Emotional Exhaustion. According to this result, academics levels of burnout is indeed affected by their perceived feelings of pressure to publish supporting the second hypothesis of the study.
