Media And The Media Bias
The commencement of mass media has allowed the world to incorporate politics in their daily lives
from television, newspapers, radio stations, and social media. Media is a powerful tool used to get
information out to the public especially in the United States and can influence the opinions of the
public on any issue. Media bias is when any mass media puts their own opinion in the news to
influence Americans and mostly uneducated voters to believe one side of a story they hear. The vast
amount of unreliable information available on the Internet, and its potential for misleading consumers,
has also been noted (Aliprandini, Isadora). Proving that the media does have a huge role in providing
misleading information to the public. When Americans automatically assume the information they
hear or see is correct, it becomes severely controversial to party polarization depending on
conservative or liberal views incorporated in the media. Not only is the media bias and misleading, the
media also wants to maximize its viewers and base their discussions and reports off of people s
interests by reporting what people want to hear, rather than giving all news equal amount of airtime so
they won t lose viewers and can profit more from the viewers interests. What Americans watch, read
or listen to everyday are bias on both sides of politics and allows reporters and media owners to slant
news stories in favor of particular groups or interests (Aliprandini,Isadora). The media is, indeed,

Uncle Tom s Cabin Analysis
The book Uncle Tom s Cabin is set in the 19th century in the deep south. As most people may know,
in the 19th century states in the deep south used to have many black African slaves. These states
included Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, and more. Slaves in the south where typically put to
work as servants or on a plantation. At the time, many white Americans saw slaves as animals that
were not to be compared with white people. Slaves were treated like animals due to them being black
and classified as pieces of property. Being classified as a piece of property meant that slave owners
had total control of their slave or slaves. Some slave owners would treat their slaves with respect;
however, many slave owners would whip, torture, rape, and even kill their slaves as a form of
punishment. Due to slaves being classified as a piece of property, many of these illegal acts were
never brought into a courtroom. In Uncle Tom s Cabin, these methods of punishment and
discrimination are seen as evil. Evil is present quite often in Uncle Tom s Cabin. With this being said,
this essay is for the sole purpose of discussing the presence of evil in Uncle Tom s Cabin. In the
beginning of Uncle Tom s Cabin, it is obvious that Mr. Shelby wife if very sad about Eliza s son and
Tom being sold to Hayley. Mrs. Shelby feels ashamed of herself for owning slaves with the laws that
are currently present at the time and even calls it a deadly evil (pg.30). The slaves being sold to

Stress as a Social Determinant of Health Essay
A) Can stress ever be a positive social determinant of health?
Stress a term used to describe the human response to pressure when faced with challenges or even
dangerous situations, resulting in an increase in our energy and alertness, a prolonged exposure to
stressful stimuli can lead to harmful effect on health, a functional definition of stress may be hard to
establish, the research of stress probably started with Selye Hans (1956) using the term stress in his
book the stress of life referring to stress as the unpleasant environmental events and the physiological
reaction toward it, examining the effect of anxious but different physical and emotional stimuli on
laboratory animals, suggesting that persistence exposure to stress ... Show more content on

to generate the good stress at work in order to achieve better employees performance.
The pressure and challenge of writing an essay or going through examination, is a good example of
eustress in daily life, the stress generating from these experiences motivates us to prepare ourselves
for the big moment, were the adrenaline rushes through our system generating extra energy and
alertness, same situation can be observed in a dangerous situation, when you are suddenly surprised,
your body will activate the fight or flight response, triggering the adrenal medulla to initiate the
secretion of hormones that results in the production of epinephrine and norepinephrine allowing you
to access extra energy to overcome the stressor, when the situation is successfully resolved, a feeling
of confident, accomplishment is developed, increasing the person satisfaction and self esteem, the
simple daily running and exercising habits, generates eustress as well, putting some degree of pressure
on your body, and then successfully managing that pressure will result in the same process. While
eustress has appositive effect on our physical activities and excitement, it also support our motivation
and inspiration.

Military Technology Technology in the military has greatly increased strength and eased the ranking

Technology is a very important part of warfare. Technology is driven by the military. The army s race

They were built strongly and carried cannons capable of destroying enemy ships. In today s age, the
aircraft carrier and battleships are the rulers of the sea.
Aircraft carriers were first developed in WWII along with planes. Conventional naval guns were
limited to a range of about 20 miles, but by World War II the aircraft carrier, a ship capable of
launching, recovering, and storing aircraft that could themselves destroy ships had extended the battle
range of surface fleets by as much as 300 miles. In doing so, it had a profound effect on naval warfare.
The airplane had just begun to go to sea on the eve of World War I. In November 1910 the American
scout cruiser USS Birmingham launched the first airplane ever to take off from a ship, and two
months later a plane was landed on an improvised flight deck built onto the armored cruiser USS
Pennsylvania. In 1913 a British cruiser, HMS Hermes, was converted to carry aircraft. In 1916, flying
off decks were built aboard several British ships, and by 1918 the Royal Navy had a converted
passenger liner, HMS Argus, that could land and launch planes on a flight deck extending from bow to
stern. The Argus was the world s first true through deck aircraft carrier and was thus the prototype for
all later carriers. (Britannica).
Aircraft carriers carry a crew of 5500 men along with lots of state of the art technology. From tracking

Character Analysis Of Mice And Men
John Steinbeck sets the scene of his novella, Of Mice and Men, in the Salinas River Valley, a few
miles south of Soledad. The time period of the novella is the 1930 s during the Great Depression. The
Great Depression began in 1929 after the U.S. had a major financial crisis. People lost all of their
money and their homes when the stock market crashed. Many men became migrant farm workers who
would travel from farm to farm, working for just enough money for food and a few belongings. John
Steinbeck grew up in the Salinas River Valley during the Depression. In his novella, of Mice and Men,
Steinbeck uses the characters Candy, Curley s wife, and Crooks to prove people will do anything to
stop being lonely.

Furthermore, Steinbeck uses Curley s wife to show how people will do anything to not be lonely. Even

expensive clothes. His father is the boss on the farm and has a lot of money. Curley s wife tries to talk
to the boys but they don t trust her. She says, Why can t I talk to you? I never get to talk to nobody. I
get awful lonely (Steinbeck 86). This quote shows that no one ever tries or wants to talk to her. Curley
s wife complains to Lennie about how lonely she is and that she just wants to talk to people. As the
book continues, she explains to Lennie why she never gets to talk to anyone. She says, You can talk to
people, but I can t talk to nobody but Curley. Else he gets mad (Steinbeck 87). This quote shows that
Curley is very controlling over his wife and only lets her talk to him. Curley s wife talks to Lennie
even though he is very intimidating. She is desperate to talk to anyone so she flirts with Lennie and
the other men to get their attention.
Lastly, Steinbeck uses Crooks to show the things people are willing to do to not be lonely. Crooks is
the black crippled stable buck who works on the farm. He is the only black man for miles and has no
one to talk with, or to be his friend. Crooks tells Lennie, A guy needs somebody to be near him . . . A
guy goes nuts if he

Hedge s Use Of Artifice In Politics
The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who stand by and do nothing.
Albert Einstein Based on Hedge s iconic statement that the most essential skill... is artifice , one can
infer that politicians use narrative as a strategy to increase their following. This causes controversy
among the audience who may only decide their candidate through a subliminal message therefore
empathizing with the candidate rather than voting based on their intellect and opinions. While it may
seem as regular propaganda, it is a tool to deceive the viewer. Although it may be a compelling
strategy, artifice creates a barrier between the politician and the audience making the politician unable
to connect with his followers. To begin with, the passage strikes at the qualities that define a politician.
Hedges valiantly indicates that ...Political leaders no longer need to be competent, sincere or honest....
More specifically, the author writes that those are the only qualities they need, consequently ... Show

Subsequently, Hedges adds ...The consistency and emotional appeal of the story are paramount... thus
emphasizing the importance of a personal narrative. Paramount meaning that the reactions are endless
and will help the candidate obtain their goal because the opinion of the public is of utmost importance.
In order to appeal to the public, convincing them to choose a leader must be gained through emotional
manipulation. Pathological thinking is done often throughout this process as the candidates let the
citizens hear what they want to hear, not what they need to hear. Essentially, the candidates will go to
the ends of the earth to gain empathy from the audience because that is the key to winning as
explained by Chris Hedges. Entertaining them and keeping their trust is part of the political

Quest For An Earthly Paradise And The Anticipation Of A...
Lamentation and Hope in the Depiction of Paradise
The quest for an earthly paradise and the anticipation of a heavenly one is a drive that has always
prevailed in humankind s search for God and redemption from the original sin. The desire for a
terrestrial manifestation of paradise, a so called lost origin is predominantly reflected in writers
depictions of the fall of man. This can be seen in Milton s Paradise Lost and Lucy Hutchinson s Order
and Disorder. Both these epic poems at times magnify the sadness and gravity of the loss of a
paradisal home in which Adam and Eve as our fore parents dwelt under God s close guidance and
love. The fascination with Eden s bliss is manifested in Adam and Eve s admiration, however it also
extends to Satan s various instances of questioning his own actions in the shadow of such beauty.
Perhaps crucial to both interpretations of the fall of man is that the knowledge gained from the
forbidden fruit is the realization of loss, the sudden true appreciation of the beauty of a paradise that is
now lost. On the other hand the promise of redemption is provided through God s mercy in Death,
thus allowing for a hope and anticipation of a heavenly paradise. This portrayal of a merciful God in
Paradise Lost and Order and Disorder, grows out of man s search for redemption and a desire to be
united with God in a heavenly paradise. Nostalgia and anticipation of paradise thus manifest through
the lamentations of loss and mercy in death

Use Of Phase Of Building A Largest Stage That Impacts...
Use phase of building is the largest stage that impacts environment during the life cycle, so require

Product Declaration (EPD), this declaration will serve as a business and marketing communication
product sustainability information, greatly enhance the green building(products) influence in the
consumers. In today with increasing serious energy and environmental issues, using green building
instead of traditional high energy building has become a trend. Life cycle thinking and ways can
facilitate the development of the green building process, and help us to make more environmentally
friendly choices for building design and material selection, especially as consumers we need to follow.

How The Godfather refines female roles
Masculinity in The Godfather
Thesis
The Godfather is a depiction of the stereotypical divide between male dominance and female
submissive nature.
Introduction
The Godfather is a film made by Francis Ford Coppola in 1972 and it is a depiction of a used world
where men are responsible for making all important decisions and women are excluded from any
knowledge of anything going on.
Male masculinity
How The Godfather portrays men? It is a series of movies where men are shown romantically with a
comparison to the culture. This movie shows vengeance and the males are obsessed with figures of
power and authority and the society is divided into hierarchies that show dominance over women. The
film examines the issue of masculinity in a complex manner.
The difference between women s roles and men roles in the movie.

The Human Nervous System Essay
The Human Nervous System
The nervous system is the most complex part of the body, as they govern our thoughts, feelings, and
bodily functions. It is an important factor in science because it can lead to new discoveries for cures or
diseases. The studies of the nervous system helped lower death rates from heart disease, stroke,
accidents, etc. The nervous system is a network of neurons (nerve cells that sends information to the
brain to be analyzed.
Neurons live both in and outside the central nervous system. Understanding how the neurons work is
vital to understanding the nervous system.
The neuron has two important structures called the dendrite and axon, also called nerve fibers. The
dendrites are like tentacles that sprout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The impulse is then sent to another neuron, and the process repeats until the nerves are at rest. The
effect of the signals depends on what the target is. If the target of the signal is a muscle cell, the effect
might be a muscle contraction. The speed of the electrical impulse depends on the size of the nerve
fiber. In small nerves, the rate it transmits impulses is from a half to two meters a second. The larger
the diameter of the nerve fiber, the higher rate of conducting impulses. There is less electrical
resistance in thick fibers. When nerve impulse jumps from one node (gaps in nerve fibers) to the next,
it is called saltatory conduction. Saltatory conduction conducts faster because it contains an insulator
that prevents leakage of currents. The rate of conduction is 2 to 120 meters a second. Not all nerves
conduct impulse electrochemically. Some impulses jump from nerve to nerve, bypassing the synapse.
Unlike other cells, once neurons are lost, they can t be regenerated. Fortunately, there are about 10
billion neurons and they have other cells to aid them in carrying messages to other nerves. But if
nerves are severed, the nerve fibers can regenerate if the two ends are reattached precisely. However,
restored functions may produce different actions because the nerves might not be connected to the
right channel.
There are three main parts of the nervous system: the central, peripheral, and autonomic

Definition Of Attempt Crime

them. The assassin pulls the trigger. The victim carries on, unaware that a defective riffle has saved

as the corresponding completed crime? Most legal theorist would answer: Yes.
The definition for attempt crimes would depend on the state however generally attempt crimes occur
when an individual has actual/specific intent to commit a crime (Reuters, T 2012). According to the
Criminal Attempts Act, 1981 a person can be found guilty of an attempt if with intent to commit and
an offence, a person does an act which is more than merely preparatory to the commission of the

Summary Of Matthew Restall s Seven Myths Of The Spanish...
Matthew Restall s influential monograph, Seven Myths of the Spanish Conquest, successfully
illustrated several inconsistencies pertaining to interpretations of Conquest history from the nineteenth
century to the present. For example, since the 1840 s, the single most influential and widely cited
works concerning the conquests of Mexico and Peru were the narrative histories of William H.
Prescott. His epics, The Conquest of Mexico and The History of Conquest of Peru, originally
published in 1843 and 1847 respectively, brought the story of the conquest out of los archivos de

military action, invasion, massacre, or occupation, even when attempting to discern and contextualize
their authentic contributions, simply exacerbate the obfuscation of characteristics with the highest
potential for a conquering action s influence. To overcome this obstacle, we must alter our perception
of the Spanish Conquests in order to identify precipitating factors among the indigenous, or the
Spanish, and arrive at a conclusion that better explains contributions and outcomes with implications
upon future events. My contention is that if we disregard militaristic paradigms and view the Conquest
in a disaster context, akin to a people s actions before, during, and after a tornado or hurricane,
through a sociological lens, the story of conquest becomes more

The Effects of Exercise on Mental Health Essay

Alleles Lab Report
The Effect of Regularity of Environmental Disasters on Allele Frequencies in a Moth Population
The purpose of this experiment was to determine how changing environmental factors would affect
the allele frequencies in a population of white, brown, and black moths. More specifically, the aim
was to see if final allele frequencies would coincide with the Hardy Weinberg theory of evolution, or
if genetic drift, amplified by environmental disasters, would play a significant role in the outcome of
the experiment.
The results of the experiment were analyzed using a Chi squared test. Expected results were calculated
for a hypothetical situation where the population of moths corresponded with the Hardy Weinberg
theory, and these expected results ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(4) When a population changes (either increases or decreases) for seemingly no reason, genetic drift is
most often to blame. (1) Frequencies of alleles available in the gene pool for that population are
subject to change when evolution takes place, and one or more alleles can sometimes vanish.
Populations with fewer organisms often experience more substantial genetic drift, due to the fact that
if there is less of an allele in a gene pool during a generation, there is a higher risk that a large amount
of that allele will be removed just due to random chance genetic drift. (4) It is important to note that
the final population during the frequent disasters trial became 243 from an original 4000 when one of
the alleles ( a ) was lost. This is considered a population bottleneck (4) where the population decreased
by a significant amount. In a situation like this, there are fewer alleles available in the gene pool of
that population for that generation, so there is a bigger chance that genetic drift will accidently cause
the loss of a substantial portion of one of the alleles, driving it to discontinuation.

Tips When Driving While Driving Research Paper
It s still wintertime in Abbotsford! That means you need to take extra precautions when driving on
slick and icy roads. It also means that you should have your Subaru serviced regularly, in order to
prevent any unnecessary mishaps while you re out on the road. When you take your vehicle to Collins
Automotive in Abbotsford, you ll know that your car is getting the best possible care so you and your
passengers can feel secure in your vehicle.
Take Your Car in for Maintenance and Repairs
One of the top tips for keeping your car winter ready is to take it in for a service check. If a part needs
to be replaced, you should have it done before you find yourself stranded by the side of the road. Your
vehicle may need new brake pads, spark plugs, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They need to be inspected for proper pressure, so you can drive without experiencing an avoidable
blowout. If you must swerve to avoid a patch of ice or implement any other type of emergency
maneuver, the tires may not perform as they should if they don t have the right amount of pressure.
You might also want to have winter tires installed on your vehicle such tires offer better traction on icy
roads.
Windshield Wiper Maintenance
A clear line of vision is critical when driving conditions are challenging. This is why it is essential to
have your windshield wipers replaced if they need to be. You will also want to ensure that you have
enough wiper fluid available. This task sometimes gets overlooked when people do maintenance
themselves, but a technician will likely replace the wipers and fill the fluid during a service check if
those things need to be done. It may seem like a minor detail, but when you need to see in a
snowstorm or when it s raining, you ll want to be able to wipe the windshield quickly and easily.
Winter driving presents its own kinds of challenges, but a well prepared vehicle should serve you well.

Ethics
Initially, my personal values distracted from my ability to sympathize with Bernard Ebbers conviction.
His defense team argued that the trial judge wrongly instructed the jury that it could convict Mr.
Ebbers on the basis that he engaged in conscious avoidance of the fraud at WorldCom. It is evident
that Ebbers took a blind eye to any consideration to analyze the good stuff from the bad stuff in this
situation. He failed to calculate the considerations of utility and as a result he is paying the
consequences through a substantial decrease in his quality of life. Currently he is serving a 25 year
sentence as inmate #56022 054 for 25 years in the Oakdale Federal Correctional Complex in

Deception, whether intentional or not, did occur. The shareholders had a right to know the financial
state of WorldCom. In Ebber s defense, he had unscrupulous bed fellows on this board. Their
intentions are also at question especially regarding their eagerness to grant Mr. Ebbers a breathtaking
loan for $341 million dollar at an interest rate of 2% to shield the instability of the company s financial
situation from shareholders. There were also some concerns whether such loans were ethical from the
Security Exchange Commission Enforcement official Seth Taube. He stated that large loans to senior
executives are commonly sweetheart deals involving interest rates that constitute a poor return on
company assets. Federal prosecutors in New York cited Ebbers s expensive lifestyle, and his
overspending, as a motive to hide WorldCom s mounting financial troubles. The impropriety
associated with the largest loan any publicly traded company has lent to one of its officers in recent
memory is evident. Unfortunately, if Ebbers had pressed the matter and sold his stock, he would have
escaped the bankruptcy financially whole, but Ebbers honestly thought WorldCom would recover. The
series of clever manipulations to bury almost $4 billion in misallocated expenses and phony account
entries discovered by Cynthia Copper s team threw open Pandora s box. Ms. Cooper, a senior line

Summary Of Brunelleschi s Dome
Throughout the book Brunelleschi s Dome, Filippo has to overcome others to make his ideas become
a reality. First he loses the bronze door competition to his competition Lorenzo. Then he has to fight
against the Opera del Duomo to allow his model to be used for the Dome. He continued to fight for he
designs with trying to flood Lucca, and building II Badalone, both being fails. After those fails, and
the Domes set backs, the Opera began to lose faith in Filippo, but that wouldn t stop him. He
continued to be in charge of building the Dome, and later designing the lanterns after having Antonio
steal his ideas. Filippo had a problem with communicating to others. He feared that they would steal
his ideas and claim them as their own, so he never told anyone anything. He keeps all his notes coded
and only shared the very minimal with his friends. This allowed him an upper hand above his
competition. It made it difficult for others to reproduce his work, let alone understand how he came up
with the ideas he had, making much of his work a mystery.
The authors aims were to educate the reader upon the history of the Dome and to show how it was
built, why it was an amazing feat, and why Filippo was an ingenious architecture. King achieved his
aims very well. Through out the book, he expressed the importance of Filippo and everything that he
did. King tells about how Filippo built and designed the Dome. He supported the claim that Filippo
was before his time, and that no one could duplicate his work; A proud Florentine, Michelangelo
claimed that he could equal it, Filippo s dome but never surprises it. In fact, he did not even equal it...
(Page 163)
King s writing was both fair and accurate. He seemed to have done lots of research, and written only
the facts that had been proven. When he did write anything that seemed a little exaggerated, he would
always source the statement making sure the reader knew that he was only stating what someone else
said, not the complete truth. King also shows both sides of the story. He gives all characters an equal
chance to prove themselves. As seen best with Lorenzo, King praises him first with Lorenzo s doors,
but then he expresses Lorenzo s incompetence towards the wooden

Corr, C. A., Corr, D. M., Bordere, T. C. (2013). Death dying, life living. Belmont, CA: Wadsworth,
Cengage Learning.
According to Corr, Corr, and Bordere (2013), death is a term that is used to indicate one s end of life,
while dying is the process that one undergoes before he or she loses his or her life. The author talks
the reader the numerous aspects of death and dying, as well as bereavement. This book incorporates
classical and modern material, contemporary task based methods for a person or family coping with
death. The article is divided into sub sections including introduction chapters and conclusion chapters,
which revolve around the subject of death and how people, including relatives of the deceased,
survive. There are four chapters in this book which explain how children, teenagers, young, and
middle aged adults cope with death. From this point of view, it is clear that this book discusses various
aspects of religious and cultural perspective that affects one s understanding as well as the practices
associated with death.
Even though death is inevitable, it is quite clear that people can devise methods under which they can
cope with the loss of their loved ones; for instance, their immediate relatives if not friends. Drawing
practical guidelines from this book, one can constructively come up with communication strategies
that may have encouragement to those who have lost their loved ones. This initiative encourages

A music genre is a category of pieces of music that share a certain style or basic musical language
(van der Merwe 1989, p.3). The two articles that I will be comparing are Genres, Subgenres, Sub
Subgenres and More by Kembrew McLeod (2001) and On the Value of Popular Music by S. Firth
(1996). Categorizing music is especially challenging when it comes to fitting it into sub genres. As we
move through the ages, and technology and communication becomes more complex, newer and
unique genres are emerging. At first glance the more specific subgenres cause dispute and thoughts of
hipster emerge. Nonetheless, upon further inquiry, each of them makes cultural sense to be part of our

This creates bias, as it is not the same with male artists. Nevertheless, he discusses it is not definite
and that valid decisions in relation to popular music can be confusing as preferences are subject to

value, which determine the aptness of different sorts of judgment which determine the competence of

individual notions.
McLeod, Kembrew (2001) in his article Genres, Subgenres, Sub Subgenres and More identifies Firth s
opinion on how popular music and genres being constructed must be viewed with a
commercial/cultural process . McLeod focusing mainly on the Electronic/Dance genre, makes an
adamant claim that introduction of new subgenre names into electronic/dance music communities is
equalled by no other type of music thus that genre has been the biggest growing. Like Firth (1996),
McLeod projects the idea of gender in music implying women as the minority relative to genre. The
overwhelming majority of musical artists in the electronic/dance music scenes in the late 1980s and
the 1990s were male. Men have been in important positions

After a stretch of silence, Yuan said, May I take you somewhere, Your Highness?

Five Lessons Learned from “the Ugly American”
Introduction
There are tens of thousands of how to books, but The Ugly American is unique in that it s actually a
how not to book. Published in 1958, the action takes place in the early 1950s at the height of the Cold
War between the Soviet Union and the United States of America. Set primarily in the fictional Asian
country of Sarkhan, the struggle between Russian Communists and American Foreign Service
personnel plays out battle by battle through examples of military and political events riddled with
Ugly American social faux pas.
In Lederer s and Burdick s book, the day by day business of American policy implementation and
foreign aid to other countries is described. Central to The Ugly American is the historical reality of ...

It is interesting to see how foreign culture is seen through different eyes in each of the personal mini
stories that comprise this book.
Issue No. 3
Just as the character of Louis Krupitzyn takes many smart and savvy actions in The Ugly American,
he takes many unethical actions too. The one that stood out the most was when he changes the
wording on the labels of bags of American aid rice to read Gift of Russia in other words, he takes
credit for aid that isn t Russia s.
Almost everybody does his or her job with a goal in mind, and in a very tangible way, Krupitzyn s
action helped him get closer to his goal. But that doesn t make it right. Simply because his main goal
was to spread communism to Sarkhan within 30 months, taking credit for work that isn t yours is
unacceptable, even if it furthers your agenda. The ends do not justify the means.
Issue No. 4
One of the books most obvious arguments is that we spend billions on the wrong aid projects while
overlooking the almost costless and far more helpful ones. Sears undermines a Wisconsin dairyman s
self started project to raise nutrition levels in the Sarkhan country
side, thwarts a band of anti
Communist irregulars formed by a militant Massachusetts priest, and orchestrates the dismissal of his
more capable successor, who fails to convince Washington of an impending coup. He does this all
because these efforts get in the way of his big, self serving plans that do not benefit

The Lucky Luciano s History
Lucky Luciano
Lucky Luciano made the modern mafia. In 1931 he cut New York into five slices and served the
rackets up in a form that still exists today. He had his fingers in every slice of the metaphoric mince
meat pie that was America in the first half of the twentieth century, and then spent his remaining years
ruling the underworld from afar. In the history of organized crime, there has never been a more
powerful boss, and unless there is a drastic change in American law enforcement, no one person will
ever be able to consolidate so much criminal power again.
In 20 years, with the help of the 18th amendment, Charles Luciano went from being an average pimp

Still Pimpin
Luciano was on top of the world by 1936. He had a different woman every night, a habit he had
picked up early on. By 1936, his empire of whores caught up with him. The state of New York had
amassed enough evidence and testimony to put Luciano in jail for pimping by years end.
Thomas Dewey, special prosecutor in the case, paraded a near endless stream of witnesses before the
jury. Over 28 of them were hookers, and Luciano was incensed by this fact. He claimed that the
government had coerced the testimony of these whores by offering them free trips to Europe and a
steady supply of drugs. One of these hookers was permitted by the judge to take a shot of bourbon
while on the stand to help keep the morphine shakes off long enough to finger Luciano. Initially, most
people believed Luciano was grasping at straws, but some documents from Deweys offices confirm
that a large number of tickets to Europe were purchased by the office in the same year as the trial.
Luciano was sentenced to 30 years in jail for his alleged masterminding of the New York flesh trade.
Prison didn t dwindle Luciano s influence. He remained firmly in charge, even under lock down. So

talent level of the defense as an entirety. It is hardly advertised that of the six teams that Michigan
State has played this year, not one, but two, Oregon and Air Force, are ranked in the top 6 of overall
rush offense, according to the official website of the NCAA. To Oregon, who is averaging 318.7 rush
yards per game, Michigan State ceded only 123 rush yards on 43 attempts. The Spartan team was
similarly able to only allow Oregon one rushing touchdown, which is two scores less than their per
game average. However, if you were to eliminate the Michigan State game rushing stats and only
conduct rushing stats for Oregon s other 5 games, they would be averaging 357.8 yards per game
which would rank them second in the country. While air force did manage to obtain a value closer to
their yards per game average of 335.4 yards per game falling 57 yards shy. While this does not seem
all that impressive, it is imperative to realize that with the triple option scheme that Air Force runs a
lot of rushing yards are going to be given up, what was vital was to limit the touchdowns allowed

Analysis Of Home Life In Colonial Days
The colonization in the new continent took place in the sixteenth century after many failed attempts. It
is thanks to the first European settlers that the United States of America was later formed. As
colonizers left their homelands and traveled across the Atlantic ocean in hopes of finding fortune and a
better life, they were faced with the opposite. Although after some time they soon started considering
the New World and the colonies formed as their new homes. In spite of the first travellers to arrive
being simply men, women started arriving slowly to the new discovered land as Tobacco Wives. They
were sent so the settlers could start families and procreate. As time progressed more and more families
of different social statues and religious groups arrived to the unknown land. The history behind the
colonization is very known although many times the acute details of the home life are not spoken of.
Thanks to the book Home Life in Colonial Days written by Alice Morse Earle, one becomes aware of
the settlers day to day life.
In the book, Alice Morse Earle writes about all characteristics in regards to the life of the colonist in
the new land. Every part of the life of colonists including the struggles they faced, type of homes that
were built, how they looked inside and the way individuals ate and served the food are mentioned as
well as the occupation each member of the household had and the popular fashion attire at the time. In

A Good Man Is Hard And Find By Flannery O Connor The...
In the short fiction A good man is hard to find written by Flannery O connor The family goes on a
road trip to Florida, and the grandmother doesn t want to go because there is an escaped murderer who
is told to be headed to Florida. There are many different views of the story, but most of them revolve
around the underlying religious message. The author uses foreshadowing, and irony to show what this
story portrays. O connor is from the south and is catholic. The grandmother in the story is a big
believer in god, and talks about him a lot throughout. John Desmond says how the title reminds him of
a story in the Bible when Christ rebukes Peter when he tried to call him good , and Jesus says that no
one should be called good, and how in the story the grandmother continues to call the misfit good

reason, other than that they recognized him as the escapee.
The grandmother has a strong faith in God and it affects every aspect of her life. The misfit doesn t
believe in Jesus and that he threw everything off balance when he claimed to raise the dead. He doesn
t believe that Jesus was real because he says that he wasn t there to see Jesus raise the dead, so
because of this he has no faith. This totally contradicts the grandmother s beliefs. Even though

Romanticism is British Literature was never a real movement and was a word used to put the most
distinctive writers who thrived in the last years of the 18th century and the first decades of the 19th
centuries into a group. The term Romantic literature was actually a little bit misleading since there
were no movements of romanticism back then. The writers back in that period did not call themselves
Romantic writers, not until August Wilhelm von Schlegel s Vienna lectures of 1808 through 1809
showed a vague difference between Classicism and Romanticism.
The examples of the French Revolution had an impact on the Romantic Movement in other ways.
Romanticism elevated the achievements of what it perceived as misunderstood heroic individuals and
artists that altered society and legitimized the individual imagination as a critical authority which
permitted freedom from classical notions of form in art. Other aspects of romanticism were
intertwined with Emotion, Lyric Poetry, and Self. Increased activity from the imagination was
achieved by more importance of the instincts and feelings of the authors. They generally called more
attention towards the emotion as it was a necessary add on to make logic and reason. When this
emphasis was added to the establishment of poetry, a very important transformation of focus
happened. Wordsworth s definition of all good poetry as the spontaneous overflow of powerful
feelings marks a turning point in literary history. By finding the best

Comparing Cosmogirl and Cosmopolitan Essay
Comparing Cosmogirl and Cosmopolitan
A comparison between Cosmogirl and Cosmopolitan . Two successful magazines. One woman s and
one teenage.
Would you read the same magazines as your daughter? Would you expect the contents in a magazine
aimed at women to be diversely different from a magazine aimed at teenagers?
I think that because teenagers are at very different stages of their lives to adults and therefore have
different concerns, issues and perspectives on life, they should have separate influences such as
magazines. Magazines portray a fantasy lifestyle for many people and so they are attracted to, and
influenced by, them.
I am going to investigate the differences and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Cosmo part of the title is in the same font as Cosmopolitan . This links it to the successful, well
loved, parent magazine. This automatically gives it credibility and attracts younger audiences who
want to be like the women in Cosmopolitan when they grow up. The girl part in the title obviously
suggests the target audience and the fact that it differs from Cosmopolitan . It could also appeal to a
younger audience because Cosmopolitan is abbreviated to Cosmo for this title and abbreviating words
is a trend amongst young people.
Secondly I am going to look at the next thing you would see after the title, the models. Both models
on Cosmopolitan and Cosmogirl are female because the audience is female and want a magazine that
can tell them how to look and act and the models are examples. They are around the expected age of
the readers and are maybe what the magazines editors picture as their ideal reader. They reflect what
the magazine stands for and the position of that age group at the time. For example, a magazine aimed
at eleven to twelve year olds would have a younger model on the cover and it would be girlier than a
magazine aimed at teenagers aged fifteen to seventeen.
In the case of my magazines the cover girls are very attractive but in different ways. The model for
Cosmopolitan is aged around twenty whereas the model for

Dore s Play Observation
The child s play session involved playing with several toys. One toy in particular was a shape sorting
game. Through his interaction with this toy the child exhibited trial and error operation as he figured
out the proper orientation to get each shape into the container. This behavior is characteristic of Stage
II of Westby Play Scale. The toddler s play attached language was focused on the labeling objects. He
produced the word /tɹʌk/ several times throughout the play session in referring to his toy cars.
Additionally, the child was able to make a request to his mother. While playing with his cars on a track
the child stopped and handed the toy to his mother. In doing so, the toddler made a nonlinguistic
request for action as termed in Dore s

Why Is Summer Homework Essay
Argument Essay
Have you ever wondered why we have summer homework when we should be having fun during our
summer break? Every year when we get out of school we come home with more homework to help us
try to not forget what we learned in the past year. What if I told you summer homework could be
harmful to us. It could be and here s why. There s not enough book to choose from, never learned the
work, and it stresses everyone out. So summer homework may need to be rethought.
We all know the feeling when you pick up a book and can t put it down. Sometimes that s not the case
with summer reading books. Your assigned with a book or two that you have to read and do a report
on. Sometimes you love it, sometimes you don t. If you love it great, you can easily finish it and do a
book report on it. But what if you don t like it? Well either way you still have to read it. But if you don
t like it it s a dread to go on. If you don t like it you won t pay attention as much and might get lost and
can t follow the story. Once you start your book report you have no idea what you re talking about.
Than what happens? You get a bad grade. About 78% of people don t do well on a book ... Show more

You just came back from vacation and then you remember, you have summer work. You race to get it
done before school. You stay up late to get it done. Parents try to help, but kids under pressure turn
them away. This is one of the biggest problems of summer homework. It stresses not only the kids out,
but the parents too. Parents try to help all they can, but kids yell at the and tell them to go away. You
also mostly think of getting it done, not getting a good grade. Kids alo try to get it done in the middle
of the summer, but kids have sports. When kids try to do summer work and not play sports, it s taking
time away from the kids to exercise and socialize. If there is no summer work it will let kid and
parents relax and have fun with their kids during the long summer

Critical Appraisal Byrne , C., (2012), Jeesis is alive! He is the King of Australia: segregated religious
instruction, child identity and exclusion. British Journal of Religious Education. 34 (3) pp. 317 331.
This paper outlines a critical appraisal for a research paper conducted by Cathy Byrne (2012). Byrnes
paper is an exploratory case study into the impact of segregated religious instruction in public schools.
She argues that segregated religious instruction influences identity development and may lead to
exclusionary behaviours in students. This essay argues that Byrnes use of an exploratory research
design is an appropriate and useful approach as this method provides the researcher with a greater
understanding of the topic and allows the researcher to gain clarity in defining the nature of the
research problem (Manerika Manerika , 2014, p.95). It also helps Byrne define a problem statement
for her future research. However, the nature of this approach is associated with significant limitations,
which in Byrnes paper, were coupled with problems in the research title and method that affected the
believability and validity of the study. There are also issues with the overall argument of the paper
which is based on the assumption that Special Religious Education in Australian schools are
segregated without defining segregation or adequately proving that grouping students by religious
identity for religious

The Charter Of The United Nations
Chapter I | United Nations. UN News Center. UN, n.d. Web. 21 Mar. 2016. This article was a posting
of the first chapter of the Charter of the United Nations. In it, it details the purposes and principles of
the United Nations thus allowing me to have a better understanding of why the United nations was
created. It was created for the purpose of maintaining international peace and security, and to that end:
to take effective collective measures for the prevention and removal of threats to the peace, and for the
suppression of acts of aggression or other breaches of the peace, and to bring about by peaceful
means, and in conformity with the principles of justice and international law, adjustment or settlement
of international disputes or situations which might lead to a breach of the peace. Overall, the
organization is meant to maintain peaceful relations and create peaceful resolutions to conflicts. The
source is reliable as it was written by the United Nations, the organization it is describing, and their
was no extra writing added to it, it was just the charter itself.

Europeans In 19th Century Americans
In chapter one I was intrigued to learn about the Europeans. Edwin Gaustad and Leigh Schmidt stated
that learning about the inhabitants of what we referred to as the New World , the Europeans would
romanticize and idealize themselves as symbols. The Europeans were symbolic in their way of
innocence, they were the true inheritors of the Garden of Eden before the fall. Exploring deeper into
the Europeans symbolic meaning, I discovered that the tendency of Europeans to sentimentalize the
earliest Americans were always correlated by a tendency to be brutal and exploit them. During the
nineteenth century, a period of a rapid European sweep across the North American continent, racial
stereotypes of white men verse red man became more intense. During

The Pros And Cons Of Human Conservation Hunting

Elephant one of the most significant creatures which symbolizes strength and power. Now imagine
yourself as an elephant running for your life because a couple poacher is trying to shoot you in the
head just so they can get a hold of your beautiful ivory or tusk. The IUCN [International Union for
Conservation of Nature] Red List is a list of precise criteria that evaluates the extinction risk of
thousands of species and subspecies all over the world. It is also a powerful tool for pushing the

Of course, there are some humans who see hunting as the natural way for survival, but again, they use
unhealthy methods of the animals to gain more meat and murder them inhumanely. Some of the ways
we see this so called conservation hunting are either on social media like on Instagram or on
Facebook, recently on President Trump s sons, but mostly on animal rights group websites like PETA
and One Green Plant. In 2015 Alexander Lerche, a journalist from the Daily Mail in Turnberry,
Scotland, published an article discussing the chaos about captured photos of Donald Trump s sons
posing with dead animals from their hunting trip. While giving a press conference in Scotland, Trump
spoke for 30 minutes giving an insight into his future diplomacy skills but disregarded questions about
his sons hunting activities claiming his sons love to hunt and are proud members of the NRA while
stating he is a big believer in the Second Amendment (Daily Mail, par 4). Garett Hardin states In a
crowded world of less than perfect human beings, mutual ruin is inevitable if there are no controls
(Life Boat Ethics, par 10). This means that if there are no public policies or laws defending animal
wildlife then humans will sometimes seek destruction in getting whatever they

My First Experience At Giving Birth
My First Experience at Giving Birth
Life seemed to have ended just as it was starting. One of my greatest wishes in life was to become a
mother, a nurturing, caring, patient, self gratifying responsibility. Every time I interacted with people
and every time I saw other ladies with their sons and daughters, I admired to be like them because I
love children.
However, I did not know the kind of journey that was ahead of me because I thought giving birth was
just an easy task. And before realizing that I was pregnant, I was so nervous because I thought
something might have been seriously wrong with me. For days I had been throwing up and I couldn t

Although it was a hard decision to make I knew in my heart I was doing the right thing.
During my pregnancy I felt like a queen and everyone in my family was very supportive. However,
my joy suddenly turned into sadness as time elapsed and my expected delivery date was drawing near.
During pregnancy, I was very careful in everything I did to protect my unborn infant. I kept imagine
the kind of joy my unborn child would bring me and my child s father after giving birth. I even visited
a nutritionist for advice on the type of diet I should intake because I did not want to compromise the
delivery of my unborn child in any way. So I followed the doctors orders which was to take my
prenatal vitamins every day as well as my iron pills three times a day and avoid any strenuous activity
such as exercising / lifting anything heavy. I also became more cautious in the things that I ate because
some of the fish that I was eating contained mercury which could have be harmful to my unborn child,
and eating hot sauce was giving me heart burn and indigestion. Besides that, all sweets that I had been
eating was making me gain and excessive amount of weight which was causing my ankles to swell. So
I cut out all the unhealthy food that I was eating because my aimed was to make sure that nothing
would prevent me from having a safe delivery.
At the time I tried not thinking about having my first child at seventeen

  • 2. Media And The Media Bias The commencement of mass media has allowed the world to incorporate politics in their daily lives from television, newspapers, radio stations, and social media. Media is a powerful tool used to get information out to the public especially in the United States and can influence the opinions of the public on any issue. Media bias is when any mass media puts their own opinion in the news to influence Americans and mostly uneducated voters to believe one side of a story they hear. The vast amount of unreliable information available on the Internet, and its potential for misleading consumers, has also been noted (Aliprandini, Isadora). Proving that the media does have a huge role in providing misleading information to the public. When Americans automatically assume the information they hear or see is correct, it becomes severely controversial to party polarization depending on conservative or liberal views incorporated in the media. Not only is the media bias and misleading, the media also wants to maximize its viewers and base their discussions and reports off of people s interests by reporting what people want to hear, rather than giving all news equal amount of airtime so they won t lose viewers and can profit more from the viewers interests. What Americans watch, read or listen to everyday are bias on both sides of politics and allows reporters and media owners to slant news stories in favor of particular groups or interests (Aliprandini,Isadora). • 3. Uncle Tom s Cabin Analysis The book Uncle Tom s Cabin is set in the 19th century in the deep south. As most people may know, in the 19th century states in the deep south used to have many black African slaves. These states included Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, and more. Slaves in the south where typically put to work as servants or on a plantation. At the time, many white Americans saw slaves as animals that were not to be compared with white people. Slaves were treated like animals due to them being black and classified as pieces of property. Being classified as a piece of property meant that slave owners had total control of their slave or slaves. Some slave owners would treat their slaves with respect; however, many slave owners would whip, torture, rape, and even kill their slaves as a form of punishment. Due to slaves being classified as a piece of property, many of these illegal acts were never brought into a courtroom. In Uncle Tom s Cabin, these methods of punishment and discrimination are seen as evil. Evil is present quite often in Uncle Tom s Cabin. With this being said, this essay is for the sole purpose of discussing the presence of evil in Uncle Tom s Cabin. In the beginning of Uncle Tom s Cabin, it is obvious that Mr. Shelby wife if very sad about Eliza s son and Tom being sold to Hayley. Mrs. Shelby feels ashamed of herself for owning slaves with the laws that are currently present at the time and even calls it a deadly evil (pg.30). The slaves being sold to Hayley is seen a ... They were built strongly and carried cannons capable of destroying enemy ships. In today s age, the aircraft carrier and battleships are the rulers of the sea. Aircraft carriers were first developed in WWII along with planes. Conventional naval guns were limited to a range of about 20 miles, but by World War II the aircraft carrier, a ship capable of launching, recovering, and storing aircraft that could themselves destroy ships had extended the battle range of surface fleets by as much as 300 miles. In doing so, it had a profound effect on naval warfare. The airplane had just begun to go to sea on the eve of World War I. In November 1910 the American scout cruiser USS Birmingham launched the first airplane ever to take off from a ship, and two months later a plane was landed on an improvised flight deck built onto the armored cruiser USS Pennsylvania. In 1913 a British cruiser, HMS Hermes, was converted to carry aircraft. In 1916, flying off decks were built aboard several British ships, and by 1918 the Royal Navy had a converted passenger liner, HMS Argus, that could land and launch planes on a flight deck extending from bow to stern. • 6. Character Analysis Of Mice And Men John Steinbeck sets the scene of his novella, Of Mice and Men, in the Salinas River Valley, a few miles south of Soledad. The time period of the novella is the 1930 s during the Great Depression. The Great Depression began in 1929 after the U.S. had a major financial crisis. People lost all of their money and their homes when the stock market crashed. Many men became migrant farm workers who would travel from farm to farm, working for just enough money for food and a few belongings. Curley s wife tries to talk to the boys but they don t trust her. She says, Why can t I talk to you? I never get to talk to nobody. I get awful lonely (Steinbeck 86). This quote shows that no one ever tries or wants to talk to her. Curley s wife complains to Lennie about how lonely she is and that she just wants to talk to people. As the book continues, she explains to Lennie why she never gets to talk to anyone. She says, You can talk to people, but I can t talk to nobody but Curley. Else he gets mad (Steinbeck 87). This quote shows that Curley is very controlling over his wife and only lets her talk to him. Curley s wife talks to Lennie even though he is very intimidating. She is desperate to talk to anyone so she flirts with Lennie and the other men to get their attention. Lastly, Steinbeck uses Crooks to show the things people are willing to do to not be lonely. • 7. Hedge s Use Of Artifice In Politics The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who stand by and do nothing. Albert Einstein Based on Hedge s iconic statement that the most essential skill... is artifice , one can infer that politicians use narrative as a strategy to increase their following. This causes controversy among the audience who may only decide their candidate through a subliminal message therefore empathizing with the candidate rather than voting based on their intellect and opinions. While it may seem as regular propaganda, it is a tool to deceive the viewer. Although it may be a compelling strategy, artifice creates a barrier between the politician and the audience making the politician unable to connect with his followers. Pathological thinking is done often throughout this process as the candidates let the citizens hear what they want to hear, not what they need to hear. • 10. Quest For An Earthly Paradise And The Anticipation Of A... Lamentation and Hope in the Depiction of Paradise The quest for an earthly paradise and the anticipation of a heavenly one is a drive that has always prevailed in humankind s search for God and redemption from the original sin. The desire for a terrestrial manifestation of paradise, a so called lost origin is predominantly reflected in writers depictions of the fall of man. This can be seen in Milton s Paradise Lost and Lucy Hutchinson s Order and Disorder. Both these epic poems at times magnify the sadness and gravity of the loss of a paradisal home in which Adam and Eve as our fore parents dwelt under God s close guidance and love. The fascination with Eden s bliss is manifested in Adam and Eve s admiration, however it also extends to Satan s various instances of questioning his own actions in the shadow of such beauty. Perhaps crucial to both interpretations of the fall of man is that the knowledge gained from the forbidden fruit is the realization of loss, the sudden true appreciation of the beauty of a paradise that is now lost. On the other hand the promise of redemption is provided through God s mercy in Death, thus allowing for a hope and anticipation of a heavenly paradise. This portrayal of a merciful God in Paradise Lost and Order and Disorder, grows out of man s search for redemption and a desire to be united with God in a heavenly paradise. It is an important factor in science because it can lead to new discoveries for cures or diseases. The studies of the nervous system helped lower death rates from heart disease, stroke, accidents, etc. The nervous system is a network of neurons (nerve cells that sends information to the brain to be analyzed. The impulse is then sent to another neuron, and the process repeats until the nerves are at rest. The effect of the signals depends on what the target is. If the target of the signal is a muscle cell, the effect might be a muscle contraction. The speed of the electrical impulse depends on the size of the nerve fiber. In small nerves, the rate it transmits impulses is from a half to two meters a second. The larger the diameter of the nerve fiber, the higher rate of conducting impulses. There is less electrical resistance in thick fibers. When nerve impulse jumps from one node (gaps in nerve fibers) to the next, it is called saltatory conduction. Saltatory conduction conducts faster because it contains an insulator that prevents leakage of currents. The rate of conduction is 2 to 120 meters a second. Not all nerves conduct impulse electrochemically. Some impulses jump from nerve to nerve, bypassing the synapse. Unlike other cells, once neurons are lost, they can t be regenerated. Fortunately, there are about 10 billion neurons and they have other cells to aid them in carrying messages to other nerves. But if nerves are severed, the nerve fibers can regenerate if the two ends are reattached precisely. However, restored functions may produce different actions because the nerves might not be connected to the right channel. Matthew Restall s influential monograph, Seven Myths of the Spanish Conquest, successfully illustrated several inconsistencies pertaining to interpretations of Conquest history from the nineteenth century to the present. For example, since the 1840 s, the single most influential and widely cited works concerning the conquests of Mexico and Peru were the narrative histories of William H. Prescott. His epics, The Conquest of Mexico and The History of Conquest of Peru, originally published in 1843 and 1847 respectively, brought the story of the conquest out of los archivos de España, [the archives of Spain], and portrayed a heroic tale of extraordinary warriors triumphing over insurmountable adversities via the application of superior ... The Effects of Exercise on Mental Health Essay Some hypothesize that moderate levels of exercise will decrease the symptoms of mental health conditions (Blumenthal et al., 2007; Diaz Motta, 2008; Motta, Kuligowski, Marino, 2010; Rosenbaum, Nguyen, Lenehan, Tiedemann, van der Ploeg, Sherrington, 2011) and therefore be used as an alternative or complimentary treatment option for mental health (Libby, Pilver, Desai, 2012). Alleles Lab Report The Effect of Regularity of Environmental Disasters on Allele Frequencies in a Moth Population The purpose of this experiment was to determine how changing environmental factors would affect the allele frequencies in a population of white, brown, and black moths. More specifically, the aim was to see if final allele frequencies would coincide with the Hardy Weinberg theory of evolution, or if genetic drift, amplified by environmental disasters, would play a significant role in the outcome of the experiment. The results of the experiment were analyzed using a Chi squared test. Expected results were calculated for a hypothetical situation where the population of moths corresponded with the Hardy Weinberg theory, and these expected results ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (4) When a population changes (either increases or decreases) for seemingly no reason, genetic drift is most often to blame. (1) Frequencies of alleles available in the gene pool for that population are subject to change when evolution takes place, and one or more alleles can sometimes vanish. Populations with fewer organisms often experience more substantial genetic drift, due to the fact that if there is less of an allele in a gene pool during a generation, there is a higher risk that a large amount of that allele will be removed just due to random chance genetic drift. (4) It is important to note that the final population during the frequent disasters trial became 243 from an original 4000 when one of the alleles ( a ) was lost. This is considered a population bottleneck (4) where the population decreased by a significant amount. In a situation like this, there are fewer alleles available in the gene pool of that population for that generation, so there is a bigger chance that genetic drift will accidently cause the loss of a substantial portion of one of the alleles, driving it to discontinuation. ... His defense team argued that the trial judge wrongly instructed the jury that it could convict Mr. Ebbers on the basis that he engaged in conscious avoidance of the fraud at WorldCom. First he loses the bronze door competition to his competition Lorenzo. Then he has to fight against the Opera del Duomo to allow his model to be used for the Dome. He continued to fight for he designs with trying to flood Lucca, and building II Badalone, both being fails. After those fails, and the Domes set backs, the Opera began to lose faith in Filippo, but that wouldn t stop him. He continued to be in charge of building the Dome, and later designing the lanterns after having Antonio steal his ideas. Filippo had a problem with communicating to others. He feared that they would steal his ideas and claim them as their own, so he never told anyone anything. He keeps all his notes coded and only shared the very minimal with his friends. This allowed him an upper hand above his competition. It made it difficult for others to reproduce his work, let alone understand how he came up with the ideas he had, making much of his work a mystery. The authors aims were to educate the reader upon the history of the Dome and to show how it was built, why it was an amazing feat, and why Filippo was an ingenious architecture. King achieved his aims very well. Through out the book, he expressed the importance of Filippo and everything that he did. King tells about how Filippo built and designed the Dome. He supported the claim that Filippo was before his time, and that no one could duplicate his work; A proud Florentine, Michelangelo claimed that he could equal it, Filippo s dome but never surprises it. In fact, he did not even equal it... (Page 163) King s writing was both fair and accurate. He seemed to have done lots of research, and written only the facts that had been proven. When he did write anything that seemed a little exaggerated, he would always source the statement making sure the reader knew that he was only stating what someone else said, not the complete truth. King also shows both sides of the story. He gives all characters an equal chance to prove themselves. It is thanks to the first European settlers that the United States of America was later formed. Although after some time they soon started considering the New World and the colonies formed as their new homes. In spite of the first travellers to arrive being simply men, women started arriving slowly to the new discovered land as Tobacco Wives. They were sent so the settlers could start families and procreate. As time progressed more and more families of different social statues and religious groups arrived to the unknown land. The history behind the colonization is very known although many times the acute details of the home life are not spoken of. • 37. A Good Man Is Hard And Find By Flannery O Connor The... In the short fiction A good man is hard to find written by Flannery O connor The family goes on a road trip to Florida, and the grandmother doesn t want to go because there is an escaped murderer who is told to be headed to Florida. There are many different views of the story, but most of them revolve around the underlying religious message. The author uses foreshadowing, and irony to show what this story portrays. O connor is from the south and is catholic. The grandmother in the story is a big believer in god, and talks about him a lot throughout. John Desmond says how the title reminds him of a story in the Bible when Christ rebukes Peter when he tried to call him good , and Jesus says that no one should be called good, and how in the story the grandmother continues to call the misfit good (Desmond). Nome, I ain t a good man (191) He knew he wasn t the worst in the world, but he knew he wasn t good. I feel like the misfit wasn t a good man. He brutally murdered this entire family for no reason, other than that they recognized him as the escapee. The grandmother has a strong faith in God and it affects every aspect of her life. The misfit doesn t believe in Jesus and that he threw everything off balance when he claimed to raise the dead. He doesn t believe that Jesus was real because he says that he wasn t there to see Jesus raise the dead, so because of this he has no faith. This totally contradicts the grandmother s beliefs. • 40. Romanticism In British Literature Romanticism is British Literature was never a real movement and was a word used to put the most distinctive writers who thrived in the last years of the 18th century and the first decades of the 19th centuries into a group. The term Romantic literature was actually a little bit misleading since there were no movements of romanticism back then. The writers back in that period did not call themselves Romantic writers, not until August Wilhelm von Schlegel s Vienna lectures of 1808 through 1809 showed a vague difference between Classicism and Romanticism. The examples of the French Revolution had an impact on the Romantic Movement in other ways. Romanticism elevated the achievements of what it perceived as misunderstood heroic individuals and artists that altered society and legitimized the individual imagination as a critical authority which permitted freedom from classical notions of form in art. Other aspects of romanticism were intertwined with Emotion, Lyric Poetry, and Self. Increased activity from the imagination was achieved by more importance of the instincts and feelings of the authors. They generally called more attention towards the emotion as it was a necessary add on to make logic and reason. When this emphasis was added to the establishment of poetry, a very important transformation of focus happened. Wordsworth s definition of all good poetry as the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings marks a turning point in literary history. By finding the best ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Would you read the same magazines as your daughter? Would you expect the contents in a magazine aimed at women to be diversely different from a magazine aimed at teenagers? I think that because teenagers are at very different stages of their lives to adults and therefore have different concerns, issues and perspectives on life, they should have separate influences such as magazines. Magazines portray a fantasy lifestyle for many people and so they are attracted to, and influenced by, them. I am going to investigate the differences and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Cosmo part of the title is in the same font as Cosmopolitan . This links it to the successful, well loved, parent magazine. This automatically gives it credibility and attracts younger audiences who want to be like the women in Cosmopolitan when they grow up. The girl part in the title obviously suggests the target audience and the fact that it differs from Cosmopolitan . It could also appeal to a younger audience because Cosmopolitan is abbreviated to Cosmo for this title and abbreviating words is a trend amongst young people. Secondly I am going to look at the next thing you would see after the title, the models. Both models on Cosmopolitan and Cosmogirl are female because the audience is female and want a magazine that can tell them how to look and act and the models are examples. They are around the expected age of the readers and are maybe what the magazines editors picture as their ideal reader. They reflect what the magazine stands for and the position of that age group at the time. For example, a magazine aimed at eleven to twelve year olds would have a younger model on the cover and it would be girlier than a magazine aimed at teenagers aged fifteen to seventeen. In the case of my magazines the cover girls are very attractive but in different ways. The model for Cosmopolitan is aged around twenty whereas the model for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He is the King of Australia: segregated religious instruction, child identity and exclusion. British Journal of Religious Education. 34 (3) pp. 317 331. This paper outlines a critical appraisal for a research paper conducted by Cathy Byrne (2012). Byrnes paper is an exploratory case study into the impact of segregated religious instruction in public schools. She argues that segregated religious instruction influences identity development and may lead to exclusionary behaviours in students. This essay argues that Byrnes use of an exploratory research design is an appropriate and useful approach as this method provides the researcher with a greater understanding of the topic and allows the researcher to gain clarity in defining the nature of the research problem (Manerika Manerika , 2014, p.95). It also helps Byrne define a problem statement for her future research. However, the nature of this approach is associated with significant limitations, which in Byrnes paper, were coupled with problems in the research title and method that affected the believability and validity of the study. There are also issues with the overall argument of the paper which is based on the assumption that Special Religious Education in Australian schools are segregated without defining segregation or adequately proving that grouping students by religious identity for religious ... Edwin Gaustad and Leigh Schmidt stated that learning about the inhabitants of what we referred to as the New World , the Europeans would romanticize and idealize themselves as symbols. The Europeans were symbolic in their way of innocence, they were the true inheritors of the Garden of Eden before the fall. Exploring deeper into the Europeans symbolic meaning, I discovered that the tendency of Europeans to sentimentalize the earliest Americans were always correlated by a tendency to be brutal and exploit them. Some of the ways we see this so called conservation hunting are either on social media like on Instagram or on Facebook, recently on President Trump s sons, but mostly on animal rights group websites like PETA and One Green Plant. In 2015 Alexander Lerche, a journalist from the Daily Mail in Turnberry, Scotland, published an article discussing the chaos about captured photos of Donald Trump s sons posing with dead animals from their hunting trip. While giving a press conference in Scotland, Trump spoke for 30 minutes giving an insight into his future diplomacy skills but disregarded questions about his sons hunting activities claiming his sons love to hunt and are proud members of the NRA while stating he is a big believer in the Second Amendment (Daily Mail, par 4).
