Descriptive Essay On The Day
On a late night, about 10:30. I make my bed and let my dog out to go to the bathroom. After letting her
out, I lay in bed hoping to have a good dream. I take off my glasses and turn off my lamp, and turn off
my wax burner because my mini poodle does not like the light that it emits, and she likes the moon
light. I am walking down the school hall, heading from the English classroom to the library. The hall
is empty with no one in sight. I m going to the library to go print out something for english but I am
unsure of what. There is an oval object against the wall on the right, it gives off the same effect as a
heat wave on top of a car. I turn to the orb, and look at it blankly. My fingers just an inch away, about
to touch it, then I wake up. I get ready for school, wake up at 5:40, play on my phone, get dressed, let
the dogs out, eat breakfast, brush teeth, and walk out the door. The day is boring as normal. I get to
English and remember that my new copy of my I am Famous is due. I ask the teacher if it is okay to
get it printed. After a moment of contemplating in her head, she just agrees. She replies in a rushed
way Okay, go quick. I walk down the hall and look down at my phone texting my friend. Ugh, school
is so stressful. Out of the corner of my eye I see something odd, when I look up there it is, the orb
shimmering. I look around to check if anyone is around to see it. No one, not even a single soul in
sight. I take the chance, walk over to it, and stare at it

Summary Of Climate Change And Moral Judgement By Ezra...
After reading Ezra M. Markowitz Climate Change and moral Judgement I was able to look at the issue
of why most people don t understand why global warming is happening differently. I think the mane
point or question that the author Ezra M. Markowitz is trying to answer in his essay titled Climate
Change and moral Judgement is how some many people cant see the dangers of climate change even
though it is happening right in front of them. Ezra M. Markowitz makes this statement at the
beginning of his essay Converging evidence from the behavioral and brain sciences suggests that the
human moral judgement system is not well equipped to identify climate change a complex, large scale
and unintentionally caused phenomenon as an important moral ... Show more content on

Although climate change is the direct result of intentional, goal directed behavior some example of the
goal based behavior is driving everywhere when you could possibly walk to the place that you are
trying to go, another example of this kind of behavior is the amount energy that the normal person use
in order to live a modern life when they could simply cut back on this energy usage and change up
their life style but most people don t want to do that. After reading this essay couple of question come
to mind the first question that I would want to ask the author Ezra M. Markowitz is how does he think
we need to go about changing how people feel about climate change/global warming? I think Ezra M.
Markowitz would answer my question by saying that we must teach people about what happens every
time that they decide to do something that can be harmful for the environment we have to come up
with a way to educate people to make smarter decision when it comes to climate change and there day
to day activities. Another question that I would want to Ezra M. Markowitz is does he ever see a time
in the future where all humans see climate change as a problem and decided that its time to fix it
before it is to late? I think Ezra M. Markowitz would answer this question by saying no I think
humans are going to always deal with these issue because they don t want to give up some of the
things that they consider to allow them to live a simple life. I enjoyed

Narrator s Role in Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby and Kerouac s On The Road
Over the last fifty years, since the release of On The Road in 1957, it has not been uncommon for
critics to draw parallels between
Kerouac s semi autobiographical novel and Fitzgerald s The Great
Gatsby, released thirty two years previously. It is for certain that both the novels share many similar
traits, both examine concepts of
American ideals and The American Dream, both are heavily influenced by the jazz age of the time, but
nothing binds the novels closer to one another than the authors use of the first person narrative and
that narrators relationship with their leading character.
It is perhaps the most common reading to see both Jay Gatsby ... Show more content on

Nick is told of Gatsby s shady underworld connections and unhealthy obsession with a youthful love
affair, whilst Sal is aware of Dean s unstable background which saw him in and out of young offender
units as well as knowing that he is one driven by his lust for both sex and drugs. It is left to A. E.
Dyson to explain why Nick allows himself to be won over by such a character,
[Nick Caraway s] conscious moral instinct is to disapprove [of
Gatsby]: but his imagination is fascinated since perhaps here, in this extraordinary man, the romantic
promise is at last fulfilled.
With this, Dyson is suggesting that Nick is just far too captivated by
Gatsby and the world surrounding him, everything that makes him
great , to disapprove of him.
Sal s reaction to Dean is much more straight forward. It is revealed that Sal has always had an appetite
for adventure and he states that it had always been his intention to travel America but has never
experienced the guiding force to make him do it, it is easy to see from this why Sal is so mesmerised
to his hero, whose enthusiasm not only drives himself but those around him. This is a sentiment
picked up on by O. Swartz,
Dean is the novel. Sal could spend his entire life travelling across the country, but without Dean, the
travel could not be a transcendence. This is perhaps highlighted by the fact that Dean spends a lot of
time driving Sal about the

General Motors And The Affecting Factors Of Everyday Business
General Motors and the Affecting Factors of Everyday Business The company I have selected to do

perception from the loss they have incurred over the past decade. General Motors must continue to
improve on their product reliability and quality. The question comes to the mind when dealing with a
company like this, do you budget money to push, the stronger divisions of your company, or do you
try to share equal across the board. This is the deciding factor when companies decide how to use their
resources and capabilities. Using these assets to full capacity and effectively well is the common
everyday decisions a company like this has to do. GM must reposition itself as an innovative global
competitor in order to survive. The company has been continually plagued with a host of issues,
including lacking internal cost control and perpetually shortsighted strategies. The company must first
and most importantly close the gap between the perception of its product reliability and the actual
quality and innovation of its vehicles. (Internal Analysis and Recommendations) With these

The Rise Of Silas Lapham
Realism is the theory of writing in which the ordinary, familiar, or dull traits of life are portrayed in a
straight forward manner that reflects life as it actually is. Multiple works of literature show some type
of Realism. Realism started its rise in the United States in 1865 and ended in the early 1900 s.
Realistic writers would set their stories in specific American regions trying to capture the local
traditions before they would be forgotten. They wrote about the grim realities of everyday life. These
grim realities are shown in Mark Twain s The War Prayer. Twain exhibits the truth about warfare and
all the chaos that happens while fighting. Mark Twain was not blind when it came to the realities of
war in the United States. Mark Twain was not the only great Realist of his time. William Dean
Howells, Henry James, and George Eliot were other successful Realist writers during the 19th
Century. Howells was an early advocate of Realism. Howells wrote The Rise of Silas Lapham, which
was about how a farm boy became a millionaire but all of it ended in a financial crash. George Eliot
was another successful Realist writer. Eliot believed that Realism was the writer s presentation of the
commonplace. Eliot was also the author of Middlemarch which was another literary work of Realism.
Henry James believed that Realism is a part ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Telemachus Treatment Of Women In The Odyssey
In Homer s The Odyssey Penelope is shown to uphold the patriarchal Greek societal values. Penelope,
Odysseus wife and the queen of Ithaca, is often overshadowed and ruled by people that have less
authority. In the beginning, there is a gathering at the palace. A bard begins to sing and Penelope starts
to sob after being reminded of Troy. Telemachus immediately steps in and orders his mother to go up
to her room and tells her that he is the man of the house now, saying, So mother, go back to your
quarters, tend to your own tasks...I hold the reigns of power in this house (Homer 89). When
Telemachus says I hold the reins of power in this house Homer is revealing that Telemachus has the
power in the house, over his mother, and over all of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Telemachus exclaims that he has the power, he further illustrates how he has power over his mother
because he is a male in a male dominated society. Additionally, he has direct control over his mother
despite the fact that she is older. Penelope is cast aside and dominated by her son and conforms to the
patriarchal values, despite plotting schemes against some of the men. She upholds the Greek values, as
her role as a woman is clearly defined, as shown through how she does what Telemachus tells her to
do and does not come between the males problems and affairs. Another instance in which Penelope
upholds the patriarchal Greek values is in The Penelopiad, an account of The Odyssey, which shows
the events of The Odyssey in the eyes of Penelope. In the beginning, Odysseus and Telemachus kill
the maids, Penelope was mentioned to had slept through the mayhem because she had been given a
drug by Eurycleia to keep her out of the action and stop her from interfering. To further ensure that
Penelope does not get in the way of the killing of the maids, Odysseus made sure that all the women
were locked securely into the women s quarter , including Penelope.

How Nurturing Shapes The Hero
How Nurturing Shapes the Hero
The topic of human morality has been debated by great thinkers throughout human history. And
human nature too is like the water: it doesn t chose between good and evil any more than water
chooses between east and west. (Austin 79) In fact, it can be argued that what constitutes an
immutable form of good vs. evil has been at the source of debates in both religious morality and a
broader philosophical understanding of what these forms represent. Furthermore, morality has been
fluid over time, changing to reflect the cultural mores of society; given enough time, even perception
of previously taboo practices has changed in response to changes in culture as well as the proliferation
and recession of religion. As ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Proponents of an absolute definition of morals suggest that there is a defined right and wrong and that
acting in a way that is virtuous or immoral, respectively, determines one s fate in the afterlife. This is
not universal, as the behaviors deemed as moral depend on religious custom, and both the benefits and
penalties of adhering to them require a shared belief. One such scholar, Immanuel Kant believed the
moral law must carry with it absolute necessity (Kant 2). A contemporary Christian viewpoint is that a
practicing Christian is inherently sinful and must find salvation through belief, this presupposes that
man is immoral from birth.
While this a working definition of morality for those who share his beliefs, as he states we can
reasonably hope to find true happiness only after death, as a reward granted by God (Lenoir 16). Kant
s philosophical stance depends on religious belief in both God and an afterlife as key conceptual
features of morality. In Kant s view, God has defined morals through scripture, and adherence to God s
moral authority secures the benefits of acting morally in the form of true happiness and continuity
beyond the veil of death. Therefore, Kant s moral concept does not explain morality at the least for
polytheists, but also those who seek to act morally but are

The first crusade started in 1096 B.C. when Pope Urban II called for the for a holy war. This was the
beginning of the first crusade. What originally was supposed to be the taking back of Jerusalem led to
the death of thousands of Jewish people. This with previous persecution of the Jews, by Christians, led
to even more persecution of Jews. Pope Urban II called for a holy war in 1095. Urban wanted the
Christians to take over the holy city of Jerusalem. He also said the Islamic people committed crimes
against Christendom. When he called for this crusade he expected to have trained soldiers partake in
the war and taking over of Jerusalem. What he didn t expect were thousands of untrained peasants, but

but specifically the one which is of most interest to us is related to HR practices: how to act when we
manage data, how to collect this information and how to store the documents.
One of the reasons why an organisation needs to collect and record HR data is to drive future business
decisions within a company. Everything is based on the data and directly affects the company s
strategy and the company s needs.
Another reason to collect and record data is to comply with legal requirements and legislation, for
example the principle of equality. If we have in our HR department adequate personnel records, we

The Effects Of Antibiotic Resistance On Infectious Diseases
Introduction
Using antibiotics to treat infectious diseases as a result of bacteria has added 20 years to our lifespan,
but the rapid emergence of antibiotic resistance is hindering their effectiveness. Cutting edge
antibiotics are required, but they have not been developed in the last 25 years (WHO, 2016). One class
of antibiotics are beta lactams, which are sub divided into four different groups of antimicrobial
agents, as shown in Figure 1.
Carbapenems such as imipenem and meropenem are unique because they have a remarkably broad
spectrum of activities due to being resistant against hydrolysis by most beta lactamases, which are
enzymes that hydrolyse the beta lactam ring in some antibiotics (O Toole, 2013). This gives
carbapenems greater success against gram positive and gram negative bacteria. The key difference
between these two types of microorganisms is that gram negative bacteria have a double membrane
making them more resistant to antibiotics (Kaplan, 2000). For the reasons explained, carbapenems are
treated as last line agents or antibiotics of last resort when the health of patients with infections
deteriorates or they are hosting resistant bacteria (Papp Wallace, et al, 2011).
Gram negative bacteria such as carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) are worthy of being
called killer bacteria due to the mortality rate of those infected being as high as 50%. Overuse of
carbapenems endangers their vital role in rendering bacteria harmless. Some strains of

Essay on A Storm of Emotion in Kate Chopin s The Storm
The Storm of Emotion
Usually a storm creeps upon us, hits a luminous climax, and then fades away into nothingness. In The
Storm, Kate Chopin develops a parallel between a rainstorm and an emotional storm in a woman s
life. Chopin uses symbolism to depict the feelings of relationships that are as unpredictable as that of a
raging storm.
In the time frame that this story is set, many major life decisions things are made taking into account
one s duty to family including the selection of a husband or wife. It is possible that each of these
couples may not have been in love, when their vows were stated. They have a duty to society; they
must not marry outside of their social class. They have a duty to their family; ... Show more content on

When Alcee rides up at the beginning of the storm Calixta gathers her husband s Sunday clothes in
order to remember her sense of duty and loyalty to her husband. Respecting social graces, Alcee tries
to stay outside, but the storm drives him into the house. Inside Calixta s home Alcee can see into her
dim and mysterious bedroom, this foreshadows the forbidden relationship that takes place.
As the storm intensifies so does the physical relationship between these twomarried people. The
incessant lightening is the nagging desire between this man and woman. As the storm begins to fade
and the thunder to growl from a distance, these two lovers are reminded of their forbidden love (668).
The glistening green of the world is the happiness of a fulfilled and closed relationship that allows life
to continue (668).
It is interesting how Ms. Chopin uses the thunderstorm to parallel with theintensity of the relationship
between Alcee and Calixta. Ms. Chopin creatively parallels the development of the thunderstorm to
that of the physical development between Calixta and Alcee. In the beginning, the rain slowly begins
to fall as the emotions between the two past loves are starting to rekindle. Then, as the storm proceeds
to intensify, Alcee is forced inside the house, alone with the woman of his desire. When the lightening

Centrally Planned Economy Essay
Discuss the extent to which a country moving from a centrally planned economy to a more market
driven economy is in the interest of both consumers and producers .
A transitional economy is an economy which has previously had a centrally planned economic system
of resource allocation and is now allowing market forces, such as demand, supply, price and free
enterprise to operate in at least parts of the economy. A centrally planned economy, that is also called
command economy, is an economic system in where the country s government operates production
facilities. Free market economy is an economic system where prices and wages are set by unrestricted
competition between businesses, without government regulation or fear of monopolies. Countries like:
Poland, Vietnam, Albania, Czech Republic, China and most of CIS countries that used to be a part of
communism area can be taken as an example of countries that have moved from centrally planned
economy to a more market driven economy.
This essay is going to focus mainly on China, where both consumers and producers gain some benefits
from a transitional economy. China s transition from central planning has assumed a trajectory quite
different from that of Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. The idea of this transition is that prices
will regulate themselves. Supply and demand will reach the point of equilibrium where the most
money will be made. However, what is good for businesses not always good for customers. The main

Question #1 The first primary genetic consideration is that the risk for ovarian cancer is 8% 24% for

Chapter 5 Normalization of Database Tables Discussion Focus Why are some table structures
considered to be bad and others good and how do you recognize the difference between good and bad
structures? From an information management point of view, possibly the most vexing and destructive
problems are created through uncontrolled data redundancies. Such redundancies produce update and
delete anomalies that create data integrity problems. The loss of data integrity can destroy the
usefulness of the data within the database. (If necessary, review Chapter 1, Section 1.4.4, Data
Redundancy , to make sure that your students understand the terminology and that they appreciate the
dangers of data redundancy.) Table structures are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Guilt in Fifth Business by Robertson Davies
Guilt is the regret one experiences when they realise their action was not appropriate according to a
lawful or moral standard. In Fifth Business, by Robertson Davies, guilt was a major theme and was
essential throughout the novel. Davies used the three main characters, Dunstan Ramsay, Boy Staunton,
and Paul Dempster to illustrate the different effects of Mrs. Dempster s incident. The way one is
raised, the key disciplines they have developed and their way of thinking reflects how they deal with
guilt.
Boy Staunton was illustrated to have an interesting attitude. Through the lack of his morals and
principles he felt no guilt after the incident. I threw a snowball at you, and I guess it gave you a good
smack (Robertson Davies, pg. 27.) Boy took no responsibility over his action and blatantly denied the
guilt. Another example that displayed Boy s insensitiveness was when he was involved in a sexual act
with Mabel, a student at his school, at a time period when he was in a relationship with Leola. His
father played a major role in that situation as he bribed Mabel s mother to not involve the authorities.
Boy never apologized or showed discomfort in any way. Lastly, he cheated on Leola, after their
marriage. Leola found a note from one of his admirers and in return Boy stated, There s no reason to
carry on like that, but if you think I intend to be tied down to this sort of thing, you can think again
(pg.178.) Boy was illustrated as quite successful wealth wise, however

Essay on Advertisings Subliminal Message
Fallacious reasoning is the act of forming strong one sided opinions based on one s perceptions in
regards to marketing. Sometimes the reasoning can present a strong message; such as that from a
dogmatic viewpoint where only one true choice exist within the mind of the observer. Though not
always disagreeable such as the fallacious reasoning dogmatism; fallacious reasoning is used a lot in
today s advertising to influence people in society s thinking, social atmospheres, and outlooks. The

The following advertising controversially displays a symbol of dogmatism. Eerily similar to the pasta
noodles package American Beauty one would see in their local supermarket. Dogmatism is
exemplified on this movie soundtrack cover as it is exposes the observer to first a highlighted Warhol
tinged title. One fact that contradicts this hidden reasoning is there is more than one America, and the
Americas are indigenous to many races and cultures. An additional example of the one sided attitude
marketers had towards the promotion of this advertisement is its stereotypical image of how many
people in the world perceives North American women to be. This title plays upon all people wanting
to fit in of the idea of what they perceive beauty to be. As it also echoes the sexist fifties symbols of
pinup girls. Underneath it seems like this image is the just choice for what an American beauty can be.
A blond, petite, woman whose body looks so flawless it only needs to be adorned in roses. In this
image it seems that roses can be smelt as well as draw upon other senses. This ad unwillingly touches
the inner emotions in all who view it. It also devalues the principles America is known for, not only
the melting pot of the world, but a place where women have fought for liberties greater than this single
sided image.

Characters Depicted In John Green s Paper Towns
Although someone may know another person very well, they most likely don t know who they really
are on the inside. In John Green s book, Paper Towns, the theme is shown through many different
characters, but Margo mostly shows it. Some points describing the theme are that Quentin and his
friends realize what kind of person Margo is, and how many different ways there could be of viewing
someone, and Quentin coming up to a realization of the value of accepting other s flaws. In Green s
book, all the characters eventually accept other s values. When Quentin and his friends went searching
for Margo, they came across places that helped them understand what kind of person Margo really is.

was a time of culture deterioration. Throughout this period it wasn t known for it s food or good diet.
In medieval times, most people only ate two or three types of food. After the agricultural revolution,
peasants did not have a lot of access to a variety of food. They grew what they ate, which was also
collected for a tax. Peasants typically grow things like potatoes, corn, leeks, barley, rye and wheat.

Comparing Havisham And Valentine
Havisham and Valentine are both poems written by Carol Ann Duffy. They both develop the idea of
what love is really about, while being two completely different interpretations about love. The poet
reveals the link between the two poems using a variety of techniques; Duffy expresses the reality of
love in Valentine in contrast to the exaggeration that love is a thing of hate in Havisham .
Valentine directly tells the reader what love really is, Not a red rose or a satin heart / not a cute car or a
kissogram. Duffy takes away the materialistic side of love on Valentines Day, and looks at it
realistically, using an onion as a gift, instead. Imagery is used effectively in Valentine to develop the
key idea. I give you an onion. It is a moon... this metaphor is used to express the idea of a gift larger
than what it appears to be. The poet reveals the truth about love: It s fierce kiss will stay on your lips,
possessive and faithful. In effect this shows that love can be controlling. This strong use of
personification connects the onion to the lover highlighting the imagery constructed in this poem
about reality; and that love is hard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

violent feelings that disturb her could be a driving force of murder for her. The violent imagery that is

Narrative Designer Paul Crocker s First Entry In The Arkham
Taking it one step further with Batman Arkham City
When Arkham City was released on October 11th, 2011 for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and the PC, it
was to a different climate than Arkham Asylum, with gamers everywhere highly anticipating the
sequel. Arkham City marks the first Arkham game to be released on a Nintendo platform, as the
Armored Edition arrived on the WiiU in 2012. Warner Bros. Montreal ported it to the WiiU, and we
will take a closer look at them later in this article. Paul Dini returns to pen Arkham City s story,
however, Game Director Sefton Hill became increasingly more involved in the writing process. In
addition, Lead Narrative Designer Paul Crocker joined them, and the trio had big plans for the sequel
with big being the operative word. Arkham City features a bigger roster of enemies, and unshackles
the game from the confines of the Asylum, setting Batman free in an expansive open world. As a
result, the influences of Metroid and Zelda became more diluted. In my opinion, Arkham City is the
first entry in the Arkham series as we have come to think of it. ... Show more content on

Neuron Research Paper
Neuron
Anything we do as humans such as thinking, feeling, and hearing would not happen without the
neuron. The neuron sends messages throughout the body when the body is in trouble or pain. The
neuron is a part of the nervous system which makes the body move. There are only three structures to
the neuron; cell body, dendrite, and the axon. With these structures come functions to help the body
think, feel, and hear. When these functions don t work they can cause diseases in which the body
needs to be healthy to work. These are the reasons the neuron is important.
The neuron cell is a part of the nervous system. The nervous system is what makes the body think,
move, or feel pain. Functions within the nervous system are that it receives information, responds to
information, and maintains homeostasis. Homeostasis is when the body is stable. Through the nervous
system the body will receive information like what happens around the environment and it will check
what s going on inside the body. The Stimulus is any change or signal in the environment that can
make an organism react like when somebody scares you (Hall 177). The nervous system will analyze
this stimulus which will cause a response. When the nervous system gets this response it ... Show

Being considerate toward everybody and everything is the ideal goal that everybody hopes to achieve.
Though the idea of being considerate is different depending on the person so reaching that point in the

what that could be. Some people see being considerate as being thoughtful of other people but others
will see it as a deeper meaning with being courteous toward all living things on Earth and their

This is after he just gets done about talking about his own thoughts on the lobsters and how it is alright

sensory details that the reader can feel such as the noise of the scuttling against the boiling pot with
the lobster in it. He does this on purpose to bring to light something you may not think about or brush

they relate to each other is eternal and also unchangeable. The Trinity has always been, and will

Stepping out onto Canadian soil is the dream of any new immigrant coming to create a new life for a
fresh start. The strong images of digging, logging, and construction are just some of the rough edged
images that many do not consider when imagining the Canadian Dream. The Canadian Dream in the
minds of workers in Michael Ondaatje s, In the Skin of a Lion, is labouring to create life for
themselves and working towards a steady future. Abbott describes the masterplot as stories that we tell
over and over in myriad forms and that connect vitally with our deepest values, wishes, and fears.
(Abbott 46). Ondaatje s emphasis on labour reminds readers of the difficult work that individuals
endured in the early foundational days of Toronto. The Canadian masterplot of labour in early Toronto
can be initially thought of as a sparkling dream, when in reality it was harsh work that often went
unrecognized. The less educated, along with immigrants were considered lower class and were placed
in positions of difficult work and limited pay. Historically, it may be a preconceived notion that
Canada was built with ease and peace, but in truth, weathered men and women were the backbone that
built the nation. The individuals who built the infrastructure of Toronto endured the most difficult
work yet were hidden in the darkness. They experienced the most dangerous labor yet they were
recognized the least because of the negative connotations of the job. In this essay I will be outlining

Themes Of Kipling
Orwell and the Underlying Themes of Kipling In an assessment of Rudyard Kipling s work, George
Orwell claims Kipling is is a jingo imperialist, he is morally insensitive and aesthetically disgusting.
Orwell assesses Kipling s work as being outdated from a nineteenth century imperialist outlook that is
no longer applicable to modern society. He disclosed Kipling s lack of knowledge on economic forces
giving reason behind Kipling s stories not syncing with the natural history that took place after. He
exposes Kipling s weaknesses as only being able to write about things that have already happened,
confining Kipling as only a writer of his time. Orwell compares Kipling to a shameful pleasure, like
the taste for cheap sweets that some people secretly carry into middle life. Orwell is not completely
critical of Kipling. For example, he believes Kipling appeals to audiences by communicating as the
voice of the common man. He writes from the heart and appeals to audiences, not financially, but
emotionally. Orwell also finds Kipling s realistic vision of war to be impressive, since he had not
physically been in battle. Furthermore, Orwell defends Kipling against the false allegations of being a
Fascist. Orwell claims He [Kipling] was further from being one than the most humane or the most
progressive person is able to be nowadays. Though it is evident that Kipling s imperialist viewpoint
heavily influences his writing, Orwell s interpretations of The White Seal and

The media was a crucial control tactic and influential method of spreading news and opinions in the
USSR and Russia. Depending on who had the monopoly, state or private parties, resulted in the
control of the transitioning state. Those who were in charge of the message of the media, were also in
charge of the country. In this case, the transmitters of the media were able to design the government
and just as quickly lose its control over it. When free press was established under Yeltsin s presidency
and the collapse of the Soviet Union, journalists received privileges of influencing the country. The

In the first days of Putin s presidency, he made state media and private owned broadcast media under
Kremlin surveillance, to filter what the Russian citizens are watching and perceiving. He began by

Ostrovsky comments, Tempting though it may be to portray NTV journalists as altruistic defenders of
freedom and speech, this would be misleading as presenting their opponents as stewards of justice.
Many of the journalists, spoiled and compromised by their inflated status and their own cynicism,
which they had seen as an asset when they were in power, now invoked moral values in their time of

Therefore, the media influence began to self destruct. Putin then begins to utilise his control panel, by

  • 2. Descriptive Essay On The Day On a late night, about 10:30. I make my bed and let my dog out to go to the bathroom. After letting her out, I lay in bed hoping to have a good dream. I take off my glasses and turn off my lamp, and turn off my wax burner because my mini poodle does not like the light that it emits, and she likes the moon light. I am walking down the school hall, heading from the English classroom to the library. The hall is empty with no one in sight. I m going to the library to go print out something for english but I am unsure of what. There is an oval object against the wall on the right, it gives off the same effect as a heat wave on top of a car. I turn to the orb, and look at it blankly. My fingers just an inch away, about to touch it, then I wake up. I get ready for school, wake up at 5:40, play on my phone, get dressed, let the dogs out, eat breakfast, brush teeth, and walk out the door. The day is boring as normal. I get to English and remember that my new copy of my I am Famous is due. I ask the teacher if it is okay to get it printed. After a moment of contemplating in her head, she just agrees. She replies in a rushed way Okay, go quick. I walk down the hall and look down at my phone texting my friend. Ugh, school is so stressful. Out of the corner of my eye I see something odd, when I look up there it is, the orb shimmering. I look around to check if anyone is around to see it. No one, not even a single soul in sight. I take the chance, walk over to it, and stare at it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Summary Of Climate Change And Moral Judgement By Ezra... After reading Ezra M. Markowitz Climate Change and moral Judgement I was able to look at the issue of why most people don t understand why global warming is happening differently. I think the mane point or question that the author Ezra M. Markowitz is trying to answer in his essay titled Climate Change and moral Judgement is how some many people cant see the dangers of climate change even though it is happening right in front of them. Ezra M. Markowitz makes this statement at the beginning of his essay Converging evidence from the behavioral and brain sciences suggests that the human moral judgement system is not well equipped to identify climate change a complex, large scale and unintentionally caused phenomenon as an important moral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although climate change is the direct result of intentional, goal directed behavior some example of the goal based behavior is driving everywhere when you could possibly walk to the place that you are trying to go, another example of this kind of behavior is the amount energy that the normal person use in order to live a modern life when they could simply cut back on this energy usage and change up their life style but most people don t want to do that. After reading this essay couple of question come to mind the first question that I would want to ask the author Ezra M. Markowitz is how does he think we need to go about changing how people feel about climate change/global warming? I think Ezra M. Markowitz would answer my question by saying that we must teach people about what happens every time that they decide to do something that can be harmful for the environment we have to come up with a way to educate people to make smarter decision when it comes to climate change and there day to day activities. Another question that I would want to Ezra M. Markowitz is does he ever see a time in the future where all humans see climate change as a problem and decided that its time to fix it before it is to late? I think Ezra M. Markowitz would answer this question by saying no I think humans are going to always deal with these issue because they don t want to give up some of the things that they consider to allow them to live a simple life. • 4. Narrator s Role in Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby and... Narrator s Role in Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby and Kerouac s On The Road Over the last fifty years, since the release of On The Road in 1957, it has not been uncommon for critics to draw parallels between Kerouac s semi autobiographical novel and Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, released thirty two years previously. It is for certain that both the novels share many similar traits, both examine concepts of American ideals and The American Dream, both are heavily influenced by the jazz age of the time, but nothing binds the novels closer to one another than the authors use of the first person narrative and that narrators relationship with their leading character. It is perhaps the most common reading to see both Jay Gatsby ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nick is told of Gatsby s shady underworld connections and unhealthy obsession with a youthful love affair, whilst Sal is aware of Dean s unstable background which saw him in and out of young offender units as well as knowing that he is one driven by his lust for both sex and drugs. It is left to A. E. Dyson to explain why Nick allows himself to be won over by such a character, [Nick Caraway s] conscious moral instinct is to disapprove [of Gatsby]: but his imagination is fascinated since perhaps here, in this extraordinary man, the romantic promise is at last fulfilled. With this, Dyson is suggesting that Nick is just far too captivated by Gatsby and the world surrounding him, everything that makes him great , to disapprove of him. Sal s reaction to Dean is much more straight forward. It is revealed that Sal has always had an appetite for adventure and he states that it had always been his intention to travel America but has never experienced the guiding force to make him do it, it is easy to see from this why Sal is so mesmerised to his hero, whose enthusiasm not only drives himself but those around him. This is a sentiment picked up on by O. Swartz, Dean is the novel. Sal could spend his entire life travelling across the country, but without Dean, the travel could not be a transcendence. This is perhaps highlighted by the fact that Dean spends a lot of time driving Sal about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

General Motors And The Affecting Factors Of Everyday Business General Motors and the Affecting Factors of Everyday Business The company I have selected to do my individual paper on is General Motors. General motors is the second largest auto manufacturer globally, manufacturing cars and trucks in 34 companies. General Motors are headquartered in Detroit, Michigan and employs two hundred and sixty six thousand people. General Motors has many different branches, all vehicle manufacturing branches including, Chevy, Hummer, Saturn, and SAAB to name a few. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While keeping their original brand of manufacturing (OBM) and their original design manufacturing (ODM) General Motors needs to work on their value chain in order to get the perception they want to gain from their customers. (SWOT Analysis) Right now General Motors is fighting a poor quality perception from the loss they have incurred over the past decade. General Motors must continue to improve on their product reliability and quality. The question comes to the mind when dealing with a company like this, do you budget money to push, the stronger divisions of your company, or do you try to share equal across the board. This is the deciding factor when companies decide how to use their resources and capabilities. Using these assets to full capacity and effectively well is the common everyday decisions a company like this has to do. GM must reposition itself as an innovative global competitor in order to survive. The company has been continually plagued with a host of issues, including lacking internal cost control and perpetually shortsighted strategies. The company must first and most importantly close the gap between the perception of its product reliability and the actual quality and innovation of its vehicles. (Internal Analysis and Recommendations) With these companies always going to be a factor in our lives not only from the consumer market, but also the market share it holds itself in today s economy. • 6. The Rise Of Silas Lapham Realism is the theory of writing in which the ordinary, familiar, or dull traits of life are portrayed in a straight forward manner that reflects life as it actually is. Multiple works of literature show some type of Realism. Realism started its rise in the United States in 1865 and ended in the early 1900 s. Realistic writers would set their stories in specific American regions trying to capture the local traditions before they would be forgotten. They wrote about the grim realities of everyday life. These grim realities are shown in Mark Twain s The War Prayer. Twain exhibits the truth about warfare and all the chaos that happens while fighting. Mark Twain was not blind when it came to the realities of war in the United States. Mark Twain was not the only great Realist of his time. William Dean Howells, Henry James, and George Eliot were other successful Realist writers during the 19th Century. Howells was an early advocate of Realism. Howells wrote The Rise of Silas Lapham, which was about how a farm boy became a millionaire but all of it ended in a financial crash. George Eliot was another successful Realist writer. Eliot believed that Realism was the writer s presentation of the commonplace. Eliot was also the author of Middlemarch which was another literary work of Realism. • 7. Telemachus Treatment Of Women In The Odyssey In Homer s The Odyssey Penelope is shown to uphold the patriarchal Greek societal values. Penelope, Odysseus wife and the queen of Ithaca, is often overshadowed and ruled by people that have less authority. In the beginning, there is a gathering at the palace. A bard begins to sing and Penelope starts to sob after being reminded of Troy. Telemachus immediately steps in and orders his mother to go up to her room and tells her that he is the man of the house now, saying, So mother, go back to your quarters, tend to your own tasks...I hold the reigns of power in this house (Homer 89). Additionally, he has direct control over his mother despite the fact that she is older. Penelope is cast aside and dominated by her son and conforms to the patriarchal values, despite plotting schemes against some of the men. She upholds the Greek values, as her role as a woman is clearly defined, as shown through how she does what Telemachus tells her to do and does not come between the males problems and affairs. Another instance in which Penelope upholds the patriarchal Greek values is in The Penelopiad, an account of The Odyssey, which shows the events of The Odyssey in the eyes of Penelope. In the beginning, Odysseus and Telemachus kill the maids, Penelope was mentioned to had slept through the mayhem because she had been given a drug by Eurycleia to keep her out of the action and stop her from interfering. To further ensure that Penelope does not get in the way of the killing of the maids, Odysseus made sure that all the women were locked securely into the women s quarter , including Penelope. ... And human nature too is like the water: it doesn t chose between good and evil any more than water chooses between east and west. (Austin 79) In fact, it can be argued that what constitutes an immutable form of good vs. evil has been at the source of debates in both religious morality and a broader philosophical understanding of what these forms represent. Furthermore, morality has been fluid over time, changing to reflect the cultural mores of society; given enough time, even perception of previously taboo practices has changed in response to changes in culture as well as the proliferation and recession of religion. As ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Proponents of an absolute definition of morals suggest that there is a defined right and wrong and that acting in a way that is virtuous or immoral, respectively, determines one s fate in the afterlife. This is not universal, as the behaviors deemed as moral depend on religious custom, and both the benefits and penalties of adhering to them require a shared belief. One such scholar, Immanuel Kant believed the moral law must carry with it absolute necessity (Kant 2). A contemporary Christian viewpoint is that a practicing Christian is inherently sinful and must find salvation through belief, this presupposes that man is immoral from birth. While this a working definition of morality for those who share his beliefs, as he states we can reasonably hope to find true happiness only after death, as a reward granted by God (Lenoir 16). Kant s philosophical stance depends on religious belief in both God and an afterlife as key conceptual features of morality. In Kant s view, God has defined morals through scripture, and adherence to God s moral authority secures the benefits of acting morally in the form of true happiness and continuity beyond the veil of death. Therefore, Kant s moral concept does not explain morality at the least for polytheists, but also those who seek to act morally but are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. The Effects Of Antibiotic Resistance On Infectious Diseases Introduction Using antibiotics to treat infectious diseases as a result of bacteria has added 20 years to our lifespan, but the rapid emergence of antibiotic resistance is hindering their effectiveness. Cutting edge antibiotics are required, but they have not been developed in the last 25 years (WHO, 2016). One class of antibiotics are beta lactams, which are sub divided into four different groups of antimicrobial agents, as shown in Figure 1. Carbapenems such as imipenem and meropenem are unique because they have a remarkably broad spectrum of activities due to being resistant against hydrolysis by most beta lactamases, which are enzymes that hydrolyse the beta lactam ring in some antibiotics (O Toole, 2013). This gives carbapenems greater success against gram positive and gram negative bacteria. The key difference between these two types of microorganisms is that gram negative bacteria have a double membrane making them more resistant to antibiotics (Kaplan, 2000). For the reasons explained, carbapenems are treated as last line agents or antibiotics of last resort when the health of patients with infections deteriorates or they are hosting resistant bacteria (Papp Wallace, et al, 2011). Gram negative bacteria such as carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) are worthy of being called killer bacteria due to the mortality rate of those infected being as high as 50%. Overuse of carbapenems endangers their vital role in rendering bacteria harmless. Some strains of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the time frame that this story is set, many major life decisions things are made taking into account one s duty to family including the selection of a husband or wife. As the storm begins to fade and the thunder to growl from a distance, these two lovers are reminded of their forbidden love (668). The glistening green of the world is the happiness of a fulfilled and closed relationship that allows life to continue (668). • 29. Neuron Research Paper Neuron Anything we do as humans such as thinking, feeling, and hearing would not happen without the neuron. The neuron sends messages throughout the body when the body is in trouble or pain. The neuron is a part of the nervous system which makes the body move. There are only three structures to the neuron; cell body, dendrite, and the axon. With these structures come functions to help the body think, feel, and hear. When these functions don t work they can cause diseases in which the body needs to be healthy to work. These are the reasons the neuron is important. The neuron cell is a part of the nervous system. The nervous system is what makes the body think, move, or feel pain. Functions within the nervous system are that it receives information, responds to information, and maintains homeostasis. Homeostasis is when the body is stable. Through the nervous system the body will receive information like what happens around the environment and it will check what s going on inside the body. The Stimulus is any change or signal in the environment that can make an organism react like when somebody scares you (Hall 177). The nervous system will analyze this stimulus which will cause a response. When the nervous system gets this response it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 30. David Foster Wallace, Jessica Mittford s Essay Being considerate toward everybody and everything is the ideal goal that everybody hopes to achieve. Though the idea of being considerate is different depending on the person so reaching that point in the world is impossible to achieve since there is no baseline for that, we have many competing ideas as to what that could be. Some people see being considerate as being thoughtful of other people but others will see it as a deeper meaning with being courteous toward all living things on Earth and their belongings. There are so many different ways to be considerate and the readings of David Foster Wallace, Jessica Mittford, and Caitlin Doughty all have underlying messages of how people need to be more aware of what they are doing. Each piece ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is after he just gets done about talking about his own thoughts on the lobsters and how it is alright if people keep eating it. Now if he is fine with people eating lobsters and wants to keep eating animals on his own time why does he spend time writing this entire essay? This essay is filled with so many sensory details that the reader can feel such as the noise of the scuttling against the boiling pot with the lobster in it. He does this on purpose to bring to light something you may not think about or brush off as nothing is actually going against your morals. Wallace poses an interesting question in the conclusion of his essay by saying, Do you think much about the (possible) moral status and (probable) suffering of the animals involved? If you do, what ethical convictions have you worked out that permit you not just to eat but to savor and enjoy flesh based viands (510). This is his whole purpose of writing this essay since this question alone brings you back through his entire essay and all the insignificant details he talked about and made you realize how significant they are in the amount of harm you may be bringing to the animal. This whole idea of awareness and making sure your actions line up with your morales is echoed in the writings of Jessica Mittford in her story The American Way of Death Revisited. Mittford opens the eyes of the reader to see what American s see as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Key Concepts Of The Trinity The Trinity is the word that we use to describe the nature of God. God consists of three simultaneous, eternal persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God being simultaneous or existing at the exact same time as three different entities is one of the key concepts of the Trinity. These three Persons not only exist as one in the present moment, but will continue to do so with no end. The way they relate to each other is eternal and also unchangeable. The Trinity has always been, and will always be. The Trinity has no beginning nor an end. All three Persons in the Trinity are the same in nature, as well as being completely divine with equal attributes. Although the three persons in the Godhead are one in the same, they do perform ... • 32. The Canadian Dream In Michael Ondaatje s In The Skin Of A... Stepping out onto Canadian soil is the dream of any new immigrant coming to create a new life for a fresh start. The strong images of digging, logging, and construction are just some of the rough edged images that many do not consider when imagining the Canadian Dream. The Canadian Dream in the minds of workers in Michael Ondaatje s, In the Skin of a Lion, is labouring to create life for themselves and working towards a steady future. Abbott describes the masterplot as stories that we tell over and over in myriad forms and that connect vitally with our deepest values, wishes, and fears. (Abbott 46). Ondaatje s emphasis on labour reminds readers of the difficult work that individuals endured in the early foundational days of Toronto. The Canadian masterplot of labour in early Toronto can be initially thought of as a sparkling dream, when in reality it was harsh work that often went unrecognized. The less educated, along with immigrants were considered lower class and were placed in positions of difficult work and limited pay. Historically, it may be a preconceived notion that Canada was built with ease and peace, but in truth, weathered men and women were the backbone that built the nation. The individuals who built the infrastructure of Toronto endured the most difficult work yet were hidden in the darkness. They experienced the most dangerous labor yet they were recognized the least because of the negative connotations of the job. In this essay I will be outlining the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Themes Of Kipling Orwell and the Underlying Themes of Kipling In an assessment of Rudyard Kipling s work, George Orwell claims Kipling is is a jingo imperialist, he is morally insensitive and aesthetically disgusting. Orwell assesses Kipling s work as being outdated from a nineteenth century imperialist outlook that is no longer applicable to modern society. He disclosed Kipling s lack of knowledge on economic forces giving reason behind Kipling s stories not syncing with the natural history that took place after. He exposes Kipling s weaknesses as only being able to write about things that have already happened, confining Kipling as only a writer of his time. Orwell compares Kipling to a shameful pleasure, like the taste for cheap sweets that some people secretly carry into middle life. Orwell is not completely critical of Kipling. For example, he believes Kipling appeals to audiences by communicating as the voice of the common man. He writes from the heart and appeals to audiences, not financially, but emotionally. Orwell also finds Kipling s realistic vision of war to be impressive, since he had not physically been in battle. Furthermore, Orwell defends Kipling against the false allegations of being a Fascist. Orwell claims He [Kipling] was further from being one than the most humane or the most progressive person is able to be nowadays. Though it is evident that Kipling s imperialist viewpoint heavily influences his writing, Orwell s interpretations of The White Seal and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Depending on who had the monopoly, state or private parties, resulted in the control of the transitioning state. In this case, the transmitters of the media were able to design the government and just as quickly lose its control over it. He began by destroying the NTV news, as the president of the station Dobrodeev was expelled from his position. Ostrovsky comments, Tempting though it may be to portray NTV journalists as altruistic defenders of freedom and speech, this would be misleading as presenting their opponents as stewards of justice. Many of the journalists, spoiled and compromised by their inflated status and their own cynicism, which they had seen as an asset when they were in power, now invoked moral values in their time of need. 282. Furthermore, Putin begins his widespread propaganda movements with his now state controlled media. The bombing of the apartments in Moscow by the alleged Chechen terrorists, instills fear in citizens as they realize the print and television towers will not protect them from danger. Therefore, the media influence began to self destruct.
