Ballad Of Birmingham Essay
Dudley Randall s poem, Ballad of Birmingham, takes the reader to its dilemma and environment
leading to the death of an innocent little girl. The poet guides his audience through the struggles,
hardships, and surroundings that his protagonist faced in Birmingham. The reader learns who or what
is the antagonist in this piece of literature that leads to the problem of the poem. Randall demonstrates
his thought of racial violence that is shown in the setting and situation of his poem, Ballad of
Birmingham. The poem is based on true events. On September 15, 1963, a church was bombed in the
city of Birmingham. The city got a nickname, Bombingham because of the bombing occurrences that
happened often by the KKK. This is why the poet, Dudley Randall, wrote a poem about this tragic
event because he had a strong feeling about people being mistreated for their color of skin. They
suffered and wanted to put an end to racism and segregation. This is what influenced them to march
and protest. In the poem, the little girl is asking her mother if she can go and march for their freedom
but the mother says no because it is too dangerous for her to go. She rather have her child go to church
and be safe than be in danger, but it turned out to be a tragic accident taking her daughter to church.
No, baby, no, you may not go,
For I fear those guns will fire.
But you may go to church instead
And sing in the children s choir. (Randall 13 16)
As a result, the poem is a ballad. A ballad is a form of poetry that is written as a song. It is meant to
sound like a nursery rhyme. Since it sounds very child like, it is easy to understand. The poem, Ballad
of Birmingham is telling a story about a little girl who wants to join the civil rights movement march
in Birmingham, but her mother does not let her attend which turns out to be a tragic ending. It makes a
reader surprised when they read the last stanzas because no one would have thought the little girl
would ve died because of how the poem is written in a song like structure.
By introducing the poem, the protagonist asks her mother a question:
Mother dear, may I go downtown
Instead of out to play,
And march the streets of Birmingham
In a Freedom March today? (Randall 1 4)

ABSTRACT
After reviewing the literature relevant to the business strategies and more specifically business
strategies adopted by UK retailors over the time, and their impact on the performance of UK retail
sector, this thesis restrains its research to a case study of the impacts of business strategies on
performance management in UK retail (A Case Study Of Tesco Plc.).
In doing so, the researcher has compared the data from 2009 to 2012 and after reviewing the
performance of Tesco Plc. and comparing it with some of its like for like rivals in UK retail sector in

Self Actualization In Hamlet
According to Maslow s hierarchy of needs, basic necessities, such as food, water, and shelter must be
obtained before beginning the process of self actualization. Self actualization is a hard concept to
explain, especially if one has not experienced it. Throughout his life, the intelligent reader must
distinguish what self actualization is, as well as how to actively engage in it. This involves asking
oneself questions, such as Who am I? or Why am I here? , and not responding with a rehearsed
interview answer that everyone has prepared at some point in their life. The process of self
actualization involves thinking about what happens, if anything, after death. Is there an afterlife, or are

In the beginning of the story, Meursault is unnerved by his mother s death and quickly moves along in
his life. In fact, Meursault seems unemotional during most of the book. The existentialist part of
Meursault finds it difficult to know what love is. For example, when Marie asks if Meursault loves
her, he replies that [love] didn t mean anything but that [he] didn t [think] so (Camus 35). This lends
itself to the question of what love actually is. Is love spending time with people you care about, or is it
a myth that society has taught us to believe in? Meursault would argue the latter as his relationships
with both his mother and Marie don t involve much emotion. Another instance in which Meursault
exhibits existentialist behavior is when he shoots the Arab on the beach. What drives Meursault to
shoot is not the Arab drawing his knife, but rather the intense sun and the sweat running down his
face. During the days after the shooting, Monsieur Meursault doesn t understand why he needs an
attorney. It is easy for him to understand; he commits a murder, and he is ready to face the
consequences for his actions. There s a lot of meaning hidden in the novel s title. Part of the
existentialist attitude is the idea of alienation, and Meursault is essentially a stranger to the world
around him. He never truly has a solid relationship, whether it be with his family, his

IT security
Introduction
Information Technology security is vital for the success of any organization. As such, companies are
supposed to put in place proper security to prevent external attacks as well as proper internal
operations. For this reason, ZXY needs to have proper threat vulnerability assessment and risk
likelihood determination in order to come up with proper plans to secure the company s infrastructure
and internal operations.

Critique Of The Christmas Angel
Fifty seven year old Landon Carter narrates the novel, reflecting on events from 40 years in the past.
In the prologue of this novel, in which the older Landon, living in the same North Carolina town as he
did when he was 17 years old, stands near the Baptist church that figures prominently in the novel and
gets himself in the mindset of his 17 year old self. The story begins in 1958 and is, Landon tells us,
both joyful and sad.
Seventeen year old Landon is a senior at Beaufort High School, which collaborates each year with
Southern Baptist Church on a Christmas play called The Christmas Angel, written by Reverend
Hegbert Sullivan, the minister of the church. This play tells the story of a man who is so grief stricken
over the death of his wife while giving birth to their only child that he is not much of a father to his
child. An angel appears to the man, and she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Landon reluctantly agrees. The two begin spending time together although Landon does so only out of
obligation but in the course of their conversations, Landon discovers that Jamie s only goal in life is to
get married with a church full of people in attendance, an unlikely occurrence given Jamie s social
status.
The play is a great success, and in a pivotal scene, in which the father is supposed to notice the
ravishing beauty of the angel, Landon is shocked by how beautiful Jamie looks in her white dress; she
is wearing a touch of makeup and has taken her long hair out of a bun and let it fall past her shoulders.
The other students in the school are as surprised by Jamie s appearance as Landon.
Jamie asks Landon to help her collect the bottles and cans she set out in a donation drive to buy
presents for the orphans. Astonished by the paltry donations, Landon empties his own bank account
and adds those funds to the collection without telling anyone what he has

The Pros And Cons Of Violence
Violence is all around us, and sometimes it s right in front of you. The violence in my life is in front of
me. This violence isn t physical, but instead verbal and through social media s. The violence happens
at my lunch table and online like Instagram or texting.
I think violence is wrong and hurtful because it can make people cry or think badly of themselves. I
have seen some of my friends cry, and I do my best to help them and tell them that the person being
rude to them is insecure. The situation was, let s call her X, got mad at my friend and started texting
her long and hateful texts. I do think it s wrong, because when they say I was just upset or I was
joking it can affect the victim s life. They could have taken it serious and hurt themselves. The girl
doing this is extremely rude to others when she does not get her way or misunderstands. Anyone who
tries to stand up to her is shot down. I think that she is rude to others, because I don t think she is very
secure of herself. The verbal violence at my lunch table is towards my group of friends, and has
affected their lives by splitting from our group and becoming distant. It s also affected my life because
of the constant drama and fighting. My best friend has shown me all the hateful texts that X has sent,
and it is truly shocking. Later she X apologized, but she still continues to be set off by the smallest
things. To stop X, I could explain to her what she is doing is wrong and that she needs to stop.

Toxic Shock Syndrome Research Paper
Toxic shock syndrome is a rare, life threatening complication that is the outcome of certain types of
bacterial infections. It is caused by the release of poisonous substances due to an overgrowth of the
bacteria Streptococcus aureus, or strep, which is found in the bodies of most women. Toxic shock
syndrome has historically been associated primarily with the use of superabsorbent tampons.
However, due to this fact most manufacturers have pulled certain types of tampons off the market;
which has caused the incidence of toxic shock syndrome in menstruating women to decline. Toxic
shock syndrome can also affect men, children, and postmenopausal women. Risk factors for toxic
shock syndrome include skin wounds and may even lead to surgery. If there is someone at risk for
toxic shock syndrome they must look out for the symptoms so they can get immediate medical care. ...

and headaches. If you have signs or symptoms of toxic shock syndrome call your doctor immediately.
This is especially important if you ve use of tampons or if you have a skin or wound infection. Toxic
shock has been associated with using contraceptive sponges, diaphragms or superabsorbent tampons,

Binary Trading And Binary Derivatives
In this paper, you will learn about binary Trading. I will discuss what is binary trading, and how it s
done. How it differs from regular stock market trading. The technological aspect of it. Then lastly
where it s at now.
Binary Trading is the trading of Binary Options. Binary Options are a type option where the payoff
depends on both the price levels of the strike and the underlying asset, like standard options. If you
have a Binary Option contract you are saying that the market price of the item you are investing in is
higher than the strike price, and the market price does go above the strike price. Then you are in the
money or True . The buyer of the contract would receive a fixed payout amount per contract. If it does

Binary Options are so much different than day trading on the stock market. It offers flexibility. The
three primary differences are expiration time, payout, and how it is executed.
First , the expiration time is a big difference. Binary options can be made to be short term as short as a
one hour expiration time. This means that with multiple expiration times investors can make an instant
profit on their binary options and can become more flexible in their option investments. The
expiration times can be weekly, monthly,or even longer terms.
Secondly, the payouts are different than day trading. With regular day trading, an investor pays per
contract. Subsequently, the investor will profit or lose an amount depending on the number of points
difference between the expiration level and the strike price. In binary options the win or lose outcome
is set ahead of time. The investor knows how much he or she is going to win or lose before they enter
the trade. This can be a serious edge in regular day trading.
Third, expiration is different between binary options and regular day trading. The investor has to hold
onto his binary option until the agreed upon expiration time. This means that when looking and
purchasing options contracts he cannot sell them once they are purchased. Although there are some
brokers who do allow the selling of contracts once they have been purchased.

Do We Write the Text We Read by Reed Way Dasenbrock
Reed Way Dasenbrock s Do We Write the Text We Read? focuses on how the reader s thoughts about
a novel originate with pre existing theories and how those theories can be altered and revised as the
text permits. Dasenbrock argues that through this passing theory, readers develop a sense of value for
the literary work and can progress their own learning capabilities. Dasenbrock utilizes other theorists
to make this point, specifically Stanley Fish who postulates that individuals read texts differently
because they interpret differently. He explains that interpretations of the reader are created through
their beliefs and furthermore, that because people have such different interpretations, they are able to
bring many different concepts to a community of readers. That community is built by the common
assumptions of the members of the community. Dasenbrock adds to this theory by mentioning the
importance of the dynamic evolution of texts that happen across time. Fish, as Dasenbrock points out,
states that the certain interpretations we hold are of the only truth we should accept and that all other
sources, due to their difference, register as false. He disproves Fish s argument by bringing forth the
idea that to say another individual s beliefs are different than our own is to say that we understand
their beliefs completely. He suggests that, moreover, we can imply similar things by saying different
words. There exists many differing ways to observe, to interpret, and to

The Molecular Docking Method Essay
In silico methods became widely used in the fields of structural molecular biology and structure based
drug design with the rapid increase in computational power. Molecular docking [2 4] is one of these in
silico techniques.
Docking is a method which predicts preferred orientation (on the basis of binding energy) of one
molecule to the second to form a stable complex. In the field of drug design, first molecule is usually
protein/enzyme/DNA and the second one is small organic molecule/small peptides as potential drug
candidate.
Knowledge of preferred orientation of ligand and protein used to predict binding affinity and to
discriminate high affinity drug candidates from the low affinity compounds. 2.6.1Lock and key

2.6.3 Search algorithms
The search space which the docking software should take into account theoretically consists of every
possible conformation and orientation of the receptor and ligand. While it is impossible to
exhaustively explore this search space, efficient search algorithm is able to explore its large portion
and identify global extrema (i.e. minima in the energy corresponding to the preferred conformations)
[22]. The docking problem can be handled manually with help of interactive computer graphics. This
solution may work, if we have a good idea of the binding mode of a similar ligand. Automatic
software will be however less biased than a human and will consider many more possibilities in much
shorter time frame.
2.6.4 Genetic algorithms
Genetic algorithms [25] are search methods that mimic the process of evolution by incorporation of
techniques inspired by natural evolution, such as inheritance, mutation or crossover. In genetic
algorithm, an initial population of one dimensional strings (called chromosomes), which encode
candidate solutions (individuals) evolves toward better solutions. In case of a molecular docking, each
individual may represent one possible system configuration and each string may contain information
about its conformation (e.g. values of angles of rotatable bonds). At the beginning,

Films often explore themes surrounding issues commonly seen in the community, issues that may be
worldwide dialogue, like sexuality and gender. In addition, they may look into ideological
controversies and with the use of cinematic elements like Mise en Scène, Photography, and Movement
to imply the director s viewpoint on different issues. Some movies, take a liberal side on issues like
sexual freedom, expressing how they believe individuals should not be judged for personal decisions,
who they are, who they are with, or what they do. Along with the idea that everyone ought to be free
to make their own choices, who they want to start a family with, whom they want to be in a
relationship with, and who they want to be. Being in a relationship, like sexual decisions, ought to be
mutual decisions, without the influence of a third party having an impact or being an obstacle, an
individual can choose who to be in a relation with and when; as revealed in the films Wondrous
Boccaccio, Seven Samurai, and All About My Mother. The film Wondrous Boccaccio, explores sexual
freedom through religious ideology. Religious individuals, in this case nuns, are known to have
religious morality and are expected follow certain values. In the movie, the nun Isabetta and the

Where Your Future Can Lie With Graphic Design
Where Your Future Can Lie with Graphic design
Graphic designers create visual concepts to communicate ideas to inspire, inform, and captivate
consumers. They develop the overall layout and production for various occupations such as
advertisements, brochures, magazines, and corporate reports. The program requires a bachelor s
degree and once enrolled in a certain business or form, the median annual pay can rage from $45,900
$70,000. They combine art and technology to develop graphics for product illustrations, logos, and
websites (US Bureau, 1).

The first job is simply an extension of your education, and what you learn from it will lead to your
next job, and may lay the foundation for your Roy 2 professional habits. It s not a prize to win, but
rather a relationship to cultivate and learn from ( Who becomes a graphic designer? , 1). Getting the
first job in the industry is far more important than where it may be. Having experience somewhere is
better than having none at all. No matter who the client is, it s the designers chance to put their ideas
and creativities into action. The design thinking and crafting must be shown in everything you do.
Even if it s as small as a business card or PowerPoint presentation. Your first job may not be the job
pictured when first starting out. One of the greatest things about being a designer is that even at the
highest levels, they work in a variety of contexts. May be working in house on a design team, for
yourself, for someone who runs their own business, in partnership with another designer, for a large
advertising industry, small branding firm, large design studio, small design studio, and everything in
between (How to find your first design job, 2). It s completely plausible for a designer to work for a
design studio, go into private practice, join a team at an advertising agency, and then partner with a
friend there to start a new studio all in the span of a few years.

Lúthien Foil
Going along with an expanded life span, Galadriel also had to deal with grief for a long and probably
distressingly painful amount of time. Throughout her prolonged life she dealt with whatever came her
way in a stern yet passive way, rarely actually taking action from what Tolkien shows us. However,
the movie adaptations do give her more of an active life. Lúthien in this regard is almost a foil to
Galadriel because she was all about action. When her true love was being held captive by Sauron she
sprang into action saving him from immeasurable pain and suffering. From there if Beren went
somewhere she went too, never backing away from a fight. She truly was an elf maiden of action,
even at one point begging Mandos for the life of Beren, Lúthien cared more for personal relationships
that gaining wisdom. It is uncertain whether Galadriel would have attempted these same actions or
rather just accept her faith. Nether option is wrong or right, just different sides to the same coin. ...

and eventual destiny, but in basic personality they were not as similar. Arwen was gentle and reserved,
she positively was the ideal elf maiden, reflecting the beauty of the night and wielding wisdom as her
primary weapon. And wise Arwen was, after spending many years under the tutelage of Galadriel she

John Locke s The Second Treatise Of Government
Classical liberalism values the rights and freedoms of the individual, as well as the ability to have
limited government. John Locke s The Second Treatise of Government embraces fundamental parts of
the ideology, including self interest, consent of the governed, as well as equality between citizens.
With these principles being demonstrated, it allows Locke to be seen as the father of Classical
Liberalism. Self interest is one of the most important factors of classical liberalism, and within the
Second Treatise we are shown this through Locke s views on private property. The purpose of
conforming to a society as opposed to staying in the peaceful state of nature, is to make laws...
regulating and preserving property, employing the force of the community in the execution of such
laws, and in the defense of the commonwealth from foreign injury, and all this for the public good. (pg

Locke pursues the idea that we are born with the choice to adhere to a government, and also the extent
to which the government can interfere. Since power is only legitimate with consent, the laws are the
same. People cannot be bound by any laws but such as are enacted by those whom they have chosen
and authorized to make laws for them. (pg 66) Absolute monarchs are not appointed by the citizens,
but instead inherit their position. Therefore, monarchies should have no control over the citizens. Also,
laws are not to abolish or restrain, but to preserve and enlarge freedom... for liberty is to be free from
restraint and violence of others; which cannot be where there is no law. (pg 25) By allowing a
government, it protects the individual and allows government interference only when absolutely
necessary. Liberalism has to do with remaining as free as possible, so there is limited government to

society rely on using force to achieve what is necessary. Robert states, I don t know. He didn t say. He

savage mentality simply for his own benefit of being viewed as powerful. His civilization revolves
around killing and threatening, forcing the boys into the group and making them pay in their own

Human Relationships and Happiness
Human Relationships and Happiness Happiness is only experienced when you share it with others
around you. Your friends, family, significant others, peers, and books all show a person how it is better
to share your happiness with others than to experience it by yourself. In songs the artists always sing
about how they are happier with people and how it is hard to share things by being alone. Although
being alone can be nice and it gives you a feeling of serenity, it isn t the same as it would be with
someone else because you are able to share it with family, friends, significant others, and books. All of
these factors help with how you experience your own happiness. Family is a key part to a person s
happiness. Your mother and father ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By getting help from friends and people that you love it helps you grow as a person and it makes you
stronger. When you don t have friends like this it is hard to feel happy and to share that happiness
which makes these relationships more meaningful than being alone and not being able to have those
laughs with others. After reading so many books I have come to realize that the only time a character
is sad or upset about something is because they aren t able to share something that has happened in
their life. For example, in the book Beastly the main character is popular and has everything he wants
but isn t able to share the fact that he won class president because his father isn t ever there for him.
But because he is so selfish he is turned into a beast and the only way to change back is to have
someone fall in love with him not by looks but what is on the inside. He was always sad and depressed
because he wasn t able to find someone that would love him for who he really is, but when he finds
someone he shares a connection with her and begins to express happiness. This book is a perfect
example as to why human relationships equal happiness. Happiness is only experienced when you
share it with others around you. You re family, friends, significant others, and even in books, show
how happiness can only be achieved when you share it. Like Chris

The Things They Carried Literary Analysis
In The Things They Carried Tim O Brien relies heavily on lists as a literary device. O Brien focuses
on three distinct types of lists. These lists include military equipment, personal items and emotional or
psychological strain. The lists serve a higher purpose, O Brien uses these lists to introduce each
character in the story and give the reader insight into what mattered most to each of the men. O Brien
s use of lists as a means of character development then as a way to counteract the chaos and
uncertainty of war sets The Things They Carried apart from other war literature. @ The first of these

Lieutenant Cross uses Martha as an escape from the reality of the war. Lieutenant Cross fantasizes
about romantic trips with Martha to beautiful places as he trudged through swamps and forests. In, the
evening Cross reads letters from Martha and contemplates her feelings for him. The thought of Martha
is so prevalent in Lieutenant Cross s head, the war is hardly mentioned in the first few pages of the
story. Even when Ted Lavender dies, it only takes up one sentence, before transitioning back to
Martha. Even though she fills him with doubt, worry, love and longing; Lieutenant Cross would rather
focus on Martha than the possibility of death. Martha is representative of the emotional baggage
soldiers carry, To carry something was to hump it, as when Lieutenant Jimmy Cross humped his love
for Marth up the hills and through the swamps (O Brien 5). O Brien, is showing readers that
Lieutenant Cross is not only carrying the weight of his gear, but also the weight of his love for Martha.
His love for Martha weighs heavy on his heart, and his thoughts about her seems to become an
obsession. @ After Lavender s death, Lieutenant Cross struggles with guilt and his sense of reality.

Flat Characters
In this article, Clay compares the iconic works of Charles Dickens David Copperfield, Leo Tolstoy s
War and Peace, and Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice in order to argue for the vitality of flat
characters. Through the use of these extremely contrasting novels, Clay contends that when used
correctly, flat characters can be as memorable and impactful as seen in the likes of Pride and
Prejudice. The vitality of flat characters is a pushing point of both Elizabeth s lack of a hero s journey
and proving Austen s literary ability; thereby allowing this article to have dual uses. Had Jane Austen
not made her flat characters as impactful as she did, Elizabeth may have been able to experience a
complete hero s journey. However, seeing as how Austen has expertly utilized her flat characters, as
proved by this article, Elizabeth has yet to complete her hero s journey. This article was
multitudinously helpful to us as it added as extremely important point to our IOP topic to which we

This article is especially interesting as it takes a semi controversial stance, saying that Elizabeth is in
fact not a feminist. Such is an interestingly unique approach and is one that is rarely brought up; much
like our own topic. Such an article was useful in the defending of our IOP in the sense that Francis
brings about fine points in regards to the lack of pure feminism within Pride and Prejudice. Since
feminism would be an ideal result of a hero s journey on Elizabeth s part, and such is lacking from the
novel, the points that Francis bring up to prove such a lack are relevant to our point as

Jon Snow And Frank Gallagher
Jon Snow and Frank Gallagher are two very different individuals as they reside on opposite ends of
the spectrum in terms of morals. But one thing is for sure, they both know how to put themselves and
others around them in danger. That and their amount of near death experiences are most likely their
only major similarities, although Jon s are from battle and Frank s are from alcohol poisoning. Frank
Gallagher is the father of a lower class, dysfunctional family in the Showtime series Shameless. The
biggest standout of Frank s behavior would probably have to be how drunk he is at all times. He has
been qualified as the most impressive case of alcoholism by a renowned doctor. This causes him to be
a horrible father who fails to connect with and provide for his family due to his alcoholism and
unemployment. As a result, the eldest sister of the family had to step up as the main provider. Frank
exhibits many odd behaviors while intoxicated, he frequently finds himself waking up in strange
places with no memory of how he arrived there, these places can range from his house kitchen in
Philly to a random sidewalk bench in Toronto. But interestingly enough, his oddest behavior, at least
from the perspective of his kids, comes from when he is not inebriated. This is difficult to see because
Frank is always drunk, but in one episode he gets offered $3000 if he can remain sober for two weeks
for a scientific study. His soberness changed everything. Instead of the kids having to

Essay Theme Analysis of Killings by Andre Dubus
Killings , written by Andre Dubus in 1979, involves several aspects such as revenge, morality, and
murder. Elements, such as the story s title, the order of events, and the development of the characters,
are very unique. It successfully evokes emotion and suspense as the plot unfolds in sequence. Though
it seems easily overlooked, the title Killings is very important due to the fact that the thrill of suspense
is left in the mind of the reader. The title encourages readers to question who and what. It is also an
intricate setting for the plot s mood. It implies that a murder has taken place, but that is all the reader
knows. The chronology of the story uses a style called in media res , a term used to describe the

Strout may have been a killer, but he was still a human being, knowledge that Matt forced himself to
forget. Matt begins to identify with the forces that took his son s life murder. He and Trottier planned
and executed the murder of Strout not only to avenge Frank s death, but also to protect his family.
Dubus tells the readers how Ruth suffered every time she went into town and would see Strout on the
streets or in a store. He wrote, Ruth sees him... She can t even go out for cigarettes and aspirin. It s
killing her. (108) and It s the trial. We can t go through that, my wife and me... (116). Ruth s suffering
was Matt s motivation to protect his family. Matt could no longer handle seeing Ruth s life become
shattered by Frank s murder and her inability to deal with the loss. This was Matt s final deciding
factor to bring forth an end to their suffering by killing Strout. There is no doubt in the readers minds
that Strout is guilty of murdering Frank Fowler, but that does not change the overwhelming anguish
and guilt that is felt by Matt after he shoots Strout. As Matt had led Strout through his house and into
the bedroom, he could not help but notice the neatness of the house or the picture of Mary Ann and the
boys on the wall down the hallway. Matt began to make a brief connection to the person who was

Themes Of Violence In Dante In Love, Dante Alighieri
Introduction
According to English writer, A. N. Wilson, in Dante in Love , Dante Alighieri,
A.N. Wilson s perspective of Dante Alighieri as a poet, as well as a madman
According to (Wilson 2011), Dante Alighieri, author of the Divine Comedy, is a man whom resembled
both a poet and a madman. Wilson briefly emphasises in, Dante in Love , the two contrasting
depictions from Leonardo Bruni and Giovanni Boccaccio, of whom Dante was with regards to the role
that he played within the Florentine society and how it influenced him as a poet in his work. (Sayers
1949), asserts that the Divine Comedy is an allegorical poem, influenced by, Dante s theological,

Comedy (Sayers, Dante The Divine Comedy 1: Hell 1949).
The relationship between violence and Dante as a poet
The violence portrayed in the poem
The relationship between violence and madness
In accordance with the scenes of violence found in Dante s Inferno, a link can be found in Wilson s
argument that violent scenes within the poem can justify the possibility of Dante being both a poet, as
well as a madman. Dante s Inferno, as emphasised by A. N. Wilson, is a popular and exciting read not
only from the unpredictability of order of events (Dante wrote Inferno without have a clear vision of
how the poem will end), but for the poem s, sheer brilliance and beauty of its words, its music , as well
as for its, unforgettable characterization (Wilson 2011).

The Effects Of Video Games On The Video Game Industry Essay
2. Briefly, what are the network effects in the video game industry? The network effects in the video
game industry are derived from the console system that is sold to consumers. If a company is able to
increase penetration in this arena, though at cost/ below cost pricing or pull created through the
development of desirable content, it can potentially lock in the added value of the video games sold
for the system. Which is to say, the console locks in the network effects in the industry and the games
serve to reap the profits. The video games, however, may present something of a challenge in that they
can be somewhat easily replicated by competitors. Nintendo used an encrypted chip system to reduce
this possibility. 3. Describe and evaluate Nintendo s strategy in each of the following areas. Why did
Nintendo take the actions it did? How did these affect the value created by the industry? How did they
affect the portion of that value Nintendo was able to capture? a. Pricing of consoles and games
Nintendo s strategy for pricing of consoles and games was to lock in the network effects consoles
offered by pricing them at or below cost and reaping profits by pricing video games at significant
margin. Nintendo took these actions because it knew that if consumers used the NES/ Famicom
console, they would be a captive audience for its higher margin video games which were necessarily
more perishable from a consumer taste perspective. This affected the value created by

components have many different qualities that can ultimately be very beneficial for businesses or quite

Study Of Reaction Parameters And Temperature And Mass...
The purpose of this study is to produce succinic acid from glycerol residue through anaerobic
fermentation process. The study of reaction parameters (pH, temperature and mass substrate) was
performed by using expert design software in glycerol recovery process. One factor at one time
(OFAT) method was performed as preliminary studies for selection of parameters range and
subsequently determine its optimum condition using response surface methodology (RSM). The
concentration of glycerol and succinic acid were determined using HPLC analysis. The FTIR
spectrometry was applied to examine the adsorption of organic element. Statistical optimization
(Respond Surface design Methodology) showed that optimal conditions were at pH, 2, temperature 35
0C and substrate 110.36 gram. At this optimum, 159.312 g/L was recovery of glycerol was obtained.
Succinic acid was produced via fermentation process by using Escherichia coli type k 12 under 19.67
g/L initial glycerol concentration, 200 rpm rotation speed and at temperature 37 0C. The work resulted
0.66983 g/L succinic acid been produced. The study also investigated succinic acid production from
commercial glycerol and its resulted about 0.73337 g/L. Overall, this research showed that the
glycerol waste can be used as a carbon sources to produce succinic acid via fermentation process by
using Escherichia coli type k 12. From the fermentation process, the succinic acid production does not

Santa Clause Argument
Santa Claus
This passage presents a discussion about arguments concerning the existence of Santa Claus. This is
an important debate for children everywhere because of the Christmas spirit that Santa Claus instills in
them. The two positions argue whether or not Santa Claus exists or not. Both viewpoints have valid
claims warranting consideration. For example, evidence indicates that Santa Claus is only imaginary.
In contrast, opposing evidence suggests that he is real. While both sides of the issue have valid points,
the claim that Santa Claus exists is the stronger supported, the position supported by a preponderance
of the evidence cited in the passages. The most convincing and forceful reasons in support of this
position are that he lives in a unseeable world, he is what brings joy to Christmas, and those who do
not believe in him are only skeptics. Accordingly, these reasons and opposing viewpoints will be
discussed next. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In support of this point, a great amount of the universe cannot be seen, and because of this, it is likely
that Santa Claus lives in that portion of the universe. In addition, if this part of the universe is
invisible, then there is no clout to the claim that he does not exist only because he cannot be seen.
Consequently, this is evidence in support of the case that there is a Santa Claus. The second relevant
point to make is support of the claim that Santa Claus does indeed exist is that he is what brings joy to
Christmas. For example, if there were no Santa Clause, Christmas would be as normal a time of year
as any. But, since Christmas is the most joyous and happy time of year, it proves that there is a
difference here. Additionally, there would be a far less joy at Christmas if there was no Santa Claus. In
short, the joy and festiveness of Christmas proves that there is a Santa

History of Management Theory----Human Relations Movement

Human relations movement emerged around the beginning of twenty century. It is defined as ¡°a

The relation of communication is just a way to contact and know employees; actually, the real goal of
management is to know and understand the employees¡¯ wants and needs. (Samson, D., Daft, R.

The Iron Giant Character Analysis

Christian Beliefs
15 November 2017
The Iron Giant was a movie that I believe had many different theological theme. But for me the one
theme that stuck out the most was of Christ and his sacrifice for us. Just like Christ sacrificed his life
for us The Iron Giant sacrificed himself for the people of Rockwell. In this paper we are going to look
at how The Iron Giant and the journey Jesus Christ and his sacrifice for us are similar, we will also
look at how we are supposed to live life like a child.
In order for us to look at this movie theologically we have to know what happened. In this movie a 50
foot tall robot crash lands on earth. He is later found by Hogarth Hough and they become friends and
they do a lot of stuff together. Eventually the army gets called and they try and destroy this monster
but this just made the giant mad and he began defending himself. At the end of the movie and bomb is
launched at the giant that will kill everyone. The Iron Giant decides to sacrifice himself for his friend
and the people of Rockwell.

them. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0129167/quotes)

Puritans Influence On Society
Certain Puritan ideals and values strongly impacted the people and places it has spread to and
continues to influence major societies today. Politically, the Puritans introduced the idea of a
representative government which gave a voice to any white male who was a good standing member of
the church. This was considered one of the first steps toward representative democracy which will
later be implemented by the United States as a base to the modern day government. Economically,
Puritans believed that the key to economic prosperity would result from piety and good doings.
Socially, the Puritans left a lasting influence on both religion and education. The Puritan ideals and
values therefore strongly influenced New England s political, economic, and social development
between 1630 and 1660. Multiple Puritan ideals and values had significant impacts on the political
development of the New England colonies. The idea of a representative government originated from
Puritan ideals; They believed that governmental power should be centered around the people. The
early establishment of a representative government in the Massachusetts Bay Colony was due to the
fact that it was a charter colony, which therefore allowed it to be self governing and gave it the fuel to

In the winter league, the Cangrejeros was a team made up of many future stars like Willie Mays. That
season Roberto Clemente hit an amazing .344 that season. That team demolished almost every team
they played. They won the Caribbean world series and had many nicknames like Death Row. They are
still considered the best Caribbean team ever created.
In his first season in Canada, he did not play very much. This is true because the Dodgers wanted to
keep him a secret from other teams. They did this by benching him when every he was good. They
had trouble with this because he was a great player, and got benched almost every game. This did not
work because Clemente got benched so many times he wanted to quit. Fortunately for him, the owner
of the Dodgers Branch Rickey resigned and then became the owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates. He then
knowing how good Clemente was, gave him an offer. Clemente then signed the offer and became a
Pittsburgh Pirate. Clemente was in Puerto Rico at the time and admitted to not knowing where
Pittsburgh was. Clemente almost never had been to the U.S. and did not know how many racial
barriers he had to conquer in order to become successful. The press was making fun of him and hated
him just because he was Spanish and African American. Some examples of what the press would do
were that they would make fun of his heavy Latin accent and they quoted him by

No Left Hand Rule In Guatemalan Essay
I m from Senegal, a country in West Africa, located in the westernmost point of the continent, and as
we may know, Africa is a land of culture and diversity. To that adds ethnic, religious and superstitious
beliefs. There are many things unique to the heritage of Senegal. One of the most important one is the
no left hand rule , a superstition strongly influenced by religion.
The Senegalese people are very superstitious. As the vast majority of the population in Senegal is
Muslim, this means that traditional Islamic rules, lifestyles and beliefs are followed by many people.
Of these rules, it is considered very disrespectful and rude to use your left hand to eat or even greet
anyone with. For example, in a conventional Senegalese household, people share food on one big
bowl because they believe it betters the relationships of the ones eating it. However, the people eating
will feel very offended if anyone puts there left hand in the bowl and might refuse to keep eating due
to the negativity they believe it might bring. To them the left hand doesn t represent anything positive;
hence you shouldn t eat, drink or greet people with your left hand. Even when cooking, it s advised to
limit the use of the left hand. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also the left hand is used in the toilet to wipe oneself, therefore making it unholy and unclean in
Islamic related cultures. The left hand is not used is many different cases due to the various stigmas it
carries. That particular superstition comes from religion as it states in the Holy Quran that the prophet
said: O young boy, say the name of Allah and eat with your right hand, and eat from what is nearest to
you . Nevertheless, eating with your left hand might not be considered bad or unholy in these
following cases: not being able to use your right hand after an injury or when you re

Two things are certain in life taxes and death. However, we can deal with taxes, but losing a loved one
is the most painful feeling in the world. Death is not a topic we spend too much time thinking about,
because of which, when the inevitable strikes to our loved ones, we find ourselves with not having
enough cash for the funeral arrangement. Funeral cover, also called funeral insurance, are designed to
offer your family with money to pay for the funeral arrangements. As the cost of funeral arrangements
is going up every year, buying a funeral cover is the obvious and best choice. But still funeral cover is
not a widely known concept. Not to worry, here are some of the benefits of purchasing a funeral cover.

Fallacies In Calloway
In spite of Calloway, Lepore, and Stavans desiring for good history to be written and valued by society
at large, the suggested alternative forms of writing and producing history are liable to the same human
fallacies and errors faced within the standard historical evidence. As Calloway notes, all historical
records need critical consideration. This is due to various factors like bias, fallible memory, and
audience that colors these sources. How we discern fact from fiction is still unresolved. Ultimately, the
truth is relative for everyone. Yet, all three authors are often desiring inclusiveness of things left out in
the mainstream in order for society to find the truth. Calloway espouses attention towards Native

  • 2. Ballad Of Birmingham Essay Dudley Randall s poem, Ballad of Birmingham, takes the reader to its dilemma and environment leading to the death of an innocent little girl. The poet guides his audience through the struggles, hardships, and surroundings that his protagonist faced in Birmingham. The reader learns who or what is the antagonist in this piece of literature that leads to the problem of the poem. Randall demonstrates his thought of racial violence that is shown in the setting and situation of his poem, Ballad of Birmingham. The poem is based on true events. On September 15, 1963, a church was bombed in the city of Birmingham. The city got a nickname, Bombingham because of the bombing occurrences that happened often by the KKK. This is why the poet, Dudley Randall, wrote a poem about this tragic event because he had a strong feeling about people being mistreated for their color of skin. They suffered and wanted to put an end to racism and segregation. This is what influenced them to march and protest. In the poem, the little girl is asking her mother if she can go and march for their freedom but the mother says no because it is too dangerous for her to go. She rather have her child go to church and be safe than be in danger, but it turned out to be a tragic accident taking her daughter to church. No, baby, no, you may not go, For I fear those guns will fire. But you may go to church instead And sing in the children s choir. (Randall 13 16) As a result, the poem is a ballad. A ballad is a form of poetry that is written as a song. It is meant to sound like a nursery rhyme. Since it sounds very child like, it is easy to understand. The poem, Ballad of Birmingham is telling a story about a little girl who wants to join the civil rights movement march in Birmingham, but her mother does not let her attend which turns out to be a tragic ending. It makes a reader surprised when they read the last stanzas because no one would have thought the little girl would ve died because of how the poem is written in a song like structure. By introducing the poem, the protagonist asks her mother a question: Mother dear, may I go downtown Instead of out to play, And march the streets of Birmingham In a Freedom March today? Throughout his life, the intelligent reader must distinguish what self actualization is, as well as how to actively engage in it. This involves asking oneself questions, such as Who am I? or Why am I here? , and not responding with a rehearsed interview answer that everyone has prepared at some point in their life. The process of self actualization involves thinking about what happens, if anything, after death. Is there an afterlife, or are we simply put on earth for 60, 70, 80 years, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the beginning of the story, Meursault is unnerved by his mother s death and quickly moves along in his life. In fact, Meursault seems unemotional during most of the book. The existentialist part of Meursault finds it difficult to know what love is. For example, when Marie asks if Meursault loves her, he replies that [love] didn t mean anything but that [he] didn t [think] so (Camus 35). This lends itself to the question of what love actually is. Is love spending time with people you care about, or is it a myth that society has taught us to believe in? Meursault would argue the latter as his relationships with both his mother and Marie don t involve much emotion. Another instance in which Meursault exhibits existentialist behavior is when he shoots the Arab on the beach. What drives Meursault to shoot is not the Arab drawing his knife, but rather the intense sun and the sweat running down his face. During the days after the shooting, Monsieur Meursault doesn t understand why he needs an attorney. It is easy for him to understand; he commits a murder, and he is ready to face the consequences for his actions. There s a lot of meaning hidden in the novel s title. Part of the existentialist attitude is the idea of alienation, and Meursault is essentially a stranger to the world around him. Binary Options are so much different than day trading on the stock market. It offers flexibility. The three primary differences are expiration time, payout, and how it is executed. First , the expiration time is a big difference. Binary options can be made to be short term as short as a one hour expiration time. This means that with multiple expiration times investors can make an instant profit on their binary options and can become more flexible in their option investments. The expiration times can be weekly, monthly,or even longer terms. Secondly, the payouts are different than day trading. With regular day trading, an investor pays per contract. Subsequently, the investor will profit or lose an amount depending on the number of points difference between the expiration level and the strike price. In binary options the win or lose outcome is set ahead of time. The investor knows how much he or she is going to win or lose before they enter the trade. This can be a serious edge in regular day trading. Third, expiration is different between binary options and regular day trading. The investor has to hold onto his binary option until the agreed upon expiration time. This means that when looking and purchasing options contracts he cannot sell them once they are purchased. Do We Write the Text We Read by Reed Way Dasenbrock Reed Way Dasenbrock s Do We Write the Text We Read? focuses on how the reader s thoughts about a novel originate with pre existing theories and how those theories can be altered and revised as the text permits. Dasenbrock argues that through this passing theory, readers develop a sense of value for the literary work and can progress their own learning capabilities. Dasenbrock utilizes other theorists to make this point, specifically Stanley Fish who postulates that individuals read texts differently because they interpret differently. He explains that interpretations of the reader are created through their beliefs and furthermore, that because people have such different interpretations, they are able to bring many different concepts to a community of readers. That community is built by the common assumptions of the members of the community. Dasenbrock adds to this theory by mentioning the importance of the dynamic evolution of texts that happen across time. Fish, as Dasenbrock points out, states that the certain interpretations we hold are of the only truth we should accept and that all other sources, due to their difference, register as false. He disproves Fish s argument by bringing forth the idea that to say another individual s beliefs are different than our own is to say that we understand their beliefs completely. He suggests that, moreover, we can imply similar things by saying different words. There exists many differing ways to observe, to interpret, and to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Molecular Docking Method Essay In silico methods became widely used in the fields of structural molecular biology and structure based drug design with the rapid increase in computational power. Molecular docking [2 4] is one of these in silico techniques. Docking is a method which predicts preferred orientation (on the basis of binding energy) of one molecule to the second to form a stable complex. In the field of drug design, first molecule is usually protein/enzyme/DNA and the second one is small organic molecule/small peptides as potential drug candidate. Knowledge of preferred orientation of ligand and protein used to predict binding affinity and to discriminate high affinity drug candidates from the low affinity compounds. 2.6.1Lock and key analogy Molecular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2.6.3 Search algorithms The search space which the docking software should take into account theoretically consists of every possible conformation and orientation of the receptor and ligand. While it is impossible to exhaustively explore this search space, efficient search algorithm is able to explore its large portion and identify global extrema (i.e. minima in the energy corresponding to the preferred conformations) [22]. The docking problem can be handled manually with help of interactive computer graphics. This solution may work, if we have a good idea of the binding mode of a similar ligand. Automatic software will be however less biased than a human and will consider many more possibilities in much shorter time frame. 2.6.4 Genetic algorithms Genetic algorithms [25] are search methods that mimic the process of evolution by incorporation of techniques inspired by natural evolution, such as inheritance, mutation or crossover. In genetic algorithm, an initial population of one dimensional strings (called chromosomes), which encode candidate solutions (individuals) evolves toward better solutions. In case of a molecular docking, each individual may represent one possible system configuration and each string may contain information about its conformation (e.g. values of angles of rotatable bonds). • 25. Jon Snow And Frank Gallagher Jon Snow and Frank Gallagher are two very different individuals as they reside on opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of morals. But one thing is for sure, they both know how to put themselves and others around them in danger. That and their amount of near death experiences are most likely their only major similarities, although Jon s are from battle and Frank s are from alcohol poisoning. Frank Gallagher is the father of a lower class, dysfunctional family in the Showtime series Shameless. The biggest standout of Frank s behavior would probably have to be how drunk he is at all times. He has been qualified as the most impressive case of alcoholism by a renowned doctor. This causes him to be a horrible father who fails to connect with and provide for his family due to his alcoholism and unemployment. As a result, the eldest sister of the family had to step up as the main provider. Frank exhibits many odd behaviors while intoxicated, he frequently finds himself waking up in strange places with no memory of how he arrived there, these places can range from his house kitchen in Philly to a random sidewalk bench in Toronto. But interestingly enough, his oddest behavior, at least from the perspective of his kids, comes from when he is not inebriated. This is difficult to see because Frank is always drunk, but in one episode he gets offered $3000 if he can remain sober for two weeks for a scientific study. His soberness changed everything. Elements, such as the story s title, the order of events, and the development of the characters, are very unique. It successfully evokes emotion and suspense as the plot unfolds in sequence. The network effects in the video game industry are derived from the console system that is sold to consumers. If a company is able to increase penetration in this arena, though at cost/ below cost pricing or pull created through the development of desirable content, it can potentially lock in the added value of the video games sold for the system. Both viewpoints have valid claims warranting consideration. For example, evidence indicates that Santa Claus is only imaginary. In contrast, opposing evidence suggests that he is real. While both sides of the issue have valid points, the claim that Santa Claus exists is the stronger supported, the position supported by a preponderance of the evidence cited in the passages. The most convincing and forceful reasons in support of this position are that he lives in a unseeable world, he is what brings joy to Christmas, and those who do not believe in him are only skeptics. Accordingly, these reasons and opposing viewpoints will be discussed next. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consequently, this is evidence in support of the case that there is a Santa Claus. The second relevant point to make is support of the claim that Santa Claus does indeed exist is that he is what brings joy to Christmas. For example, if there were no Santa Clause, Christmas would be as normal a time of year as any.
