Writing an essay on the subject of same-sex marriages presents a unique set of challenges, rooted
in the diverse perspectives and deeply ingrained societal beliefs surrounding this topic. Crafting
a comprehensive and well-argued essay requires navigating through a complex web of cultural,
religious, legal, and ethical considerations.
The intricacy of the issue lies in the fact that opinions on same-sex marriages vary widely, often
stemming from deeply held personal beliefs and convictions. As a writer, one must be adept at
presenting a balanced overview of these diverse viewpoints while also providing a nuanced
analysis that goes beyond mere surface-level arguments.
Moreover, delving into the historical context and legal frameworks surrounding same-sex
marriages adds an additional layer of complexity. Legal perspectives can differ drastically across
different jurisdictions, and understanding the evolution of laws pertaining to this issue is crucial
for providing a comprehensive view.
Furthermore, the emotional aspect of the topic cannot be overlooked. Same-sex marriages often
evoke strong emotions, both positive and negative. Addressing these emotions with sensitivity
and empathy is essential for fostering a respectful and constructive dialogue within the essay.
Researching and synthesizing relevant data, statistics, and scholarly articles is a time-consuming
process, as the landscape of opinions and legal standings is continually evolving. Staying up-to-

complex interplay of cultural, religious, legal, and emotional factors. Successfully tackling this

2. The Sharing Wisdom With African American Gentlemen
In today s society some people opprobrious African Americans especially, African
American males. Black men are defined as a threat to society and by the negative
images conveyed in media today. Black children, particularly black males, are being
raised in a world where there is a high probability of not graduating, being
unemployed, arrested, or dead. We can minimize this epidemic by enhancing the lives
of today s youth. In society parents and guardians are usually responsible for
accentuating the importance of values, morals, and ethics to our black children.
However, children will deeply discern these ideologies if they are clearly perpetrated
throughout the community. There are many community organizations using the

The mission of the Sharing Wisdom with African AmericanGentlemen program is
to extend resources and information specifically geared to uplift, educate, and
empower African American males. Most importantly, we want to share the
experiences of those who have prospered through difficulties to reach their success.
If African American males are able to see a role model, especially someone they can
relate to, they too, are more likely to long for success.
The only time some African Americans hear about African American history is inside
school, and usually the African American race are not the ones being adulated.
Learning about African American history is important because a lot of the issues we
faced in the past are repeating. In the past, black people could not drink from the
same fountain, use the same bathroom, or sit in the same seats. For many years,
black people were not worthy of the lifestyle that was offered to others. They were
considered less than human and so they were involved in intense labor and
experienced sexual racism. Some people use the Pathological Approach to explain
these hardships and how these issues could have contributed to instability and
disruption in African American families. The SWAAG program will educate our
males about the past. We will enhance their knowledge by teaching them quotes
written and said by African Americans, titles of books written by African Americans,
and the biographies of
3. Mayan Male Workers Case Study
Maya male immigrants were able to benefit from both strong and weak ties because
of the encargado system. The encargado holds a supervisory position among
coethnics in each of the stores employing men. According to Hagen s reading, Juan is
encargado and he is able to offer maintenance jobs to his ethnic men, kin, and friends
from his home town. The ethnic men, kin, and friends having a strong tie with Juan
can benefit from their cultural affinity, from which they developed the encargado
system to control and restrcture the social organization of the work process. They
benefit from working in a growing retail chain that provides opportunities for
promotion, rising wages, and benefit packages. They also benefit from resources and

abusive relationships with the Maya female partners. Besides the strong tie, Maya
women cannot response to the legalization well because of weak tie. Being
confined to an employer s house and being paid in cash for domestic work, women
are hard to obtain the documentation for their application. Also, when the women

from only one person, the female employer, who in most cases refused to provide

employer did not pay social security for the female workers and are afraid to be

The Impact of Urban Legends Throughout History and Around the World
Urban legends have always intrigued me. I am unsure if it is the scare factor that
intrigues me, the way in which some of them are told, or some of the lessons that are
supposed to be taken from them but one thing I know for sure is that I do not stand
alone in this belief. In fact urban legends are told all over the world, even in
countries that many have never heard of before. Many people of all backgrounds
find them to be mystifying and sometimes even alarming. It seems as if urban
legends have the ability to draw any person in ranging from a young child to the
typical adult male. Whether or not you believe these incredible tales is almost
irrelevant in many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With all of this information collected, I was able to begin to analyze my notes and
findings. While conducting my research, I found that urban legends have existed
since the beginning of time in all different kinds of cultures and societies around
the world. One example of this would be the Incas. The idea of urban legends in
Inca society played a key role throughout many people s lives. Legends of early
rulers in Inca society were some of the most common this clearly reflecting how
important the rule of some of these leaders initially were. In fact it has been
observed that these urban legends reflect many of the preoccupations of the Incas
wars and alliances, imperial expansion and dynastic succession (Cavendish 347).
Other early legends originated in the West in classical Greek and Roman society. It
has been said that when interpreting legends, Greeks themselves valued them not
only as entertaining stories, but on one level at least, as examples of the heights and
depths at which human nature is capable of reaching (Cavendish 154). A good
example of this would be the Odyssey of Odysseus. In his search for a homeland,
Odysseus encountered many obstacles that

6. Benefits Of Locavorism
The Benefits of Locavorism
As Americans gain more and more options in the food industry, many are
wondering where the best place to purchase meals to put on their table. Upon
going to the supermarket they can look around not knowing which of the many
brands and types of the same product are more healthy, how long they have been
sitting out, and if they are even safe to eat. There is a very simple solution to this
problem: becoming a locavore and eating goods that are grown locally. By going to
farmer s markets a customer can be certain they know their food is fresh, help boost
their local economy by buying their groceries locally, and help prevent the air
pollution caused by carting food long distances. Communities should make the

In Maiser s weblog 10 Reasons to Eat Local Foods she claims that eating local food
pollutes less organic foods. Maiser asserts how the miles that organic food often
travels to our plate creates environmental damage that outweighs the benefit of
buying organic. (Source A) This means that organic food travels so far that it
causes more pollution than the benefit it brings using chemicals or sprays. Since
local food has less distance to travel it will not damage the environment as much as
other options. However, not everyone shares this idea. In James E. McWilliams s
article On My Mind: The Locavore Myth, he brings up a problem in how food
miles are calculated. He bring up a scenario in which a large truck carries 2000
apples over 2000 miles and writes that although it is traveling farther, it is still
emitting the same amount of emissions proportionally as a pickup traveling 50
miles with 50 apples to a farmer s market (Source C). This would be a very extreme
example, however, because even if this truck was traveling from the tip of Maine to
the most southern part of Florida, it still would only go about 1500 miles which is
much less than his hypothesized 2000. Also, something else he fails to address is the
amount of time it would take to travel that long distance. The apples that only went
50 miles would be much fresher and
7. Dolores Huerta Inspiration
Dolores Huerta has made many contributions to our society and the social work
profession. While her title is not a social worker, she presents to be one at heart.
Huerta is a union leader, civil rights activist, and lobbyist. For many years, she
worked closely with Cesar Chavez to organize farmworkers. Huerta s drive and
motivation to correct social injustice is seen in her actions and words. The reason
Huerta was selected to be have this paper written on is because the writer attended a
speech of hers in May, 2013, and found her to be a big inspiration for anybody who is
passionate about social justice. Many people have knowledge of who Cesar Chavez
is, but not as many are aware of who his partner, Dolores Huerta, is. This paper is

Her father, Juan Fernandez, was a farm worker, miner, union activist, and a state
assemblyman (Ruiz Sanchez, 2005; Dolores Huerta Foundation, 2014). Her
mother, Alicia Chavez, was a big inspiration for Huerta and one of the primary
reasons she became a feminist (Dolores Huerta Foundation, 2014). Alicia Chavez
owned a restaurant and a 70 room hotel where she welcomed low wage workers
and their families for affordable prices. Huerta and her brother worked at the
restaurant and Huerta noticed that the poor farm workers who stayed there were
working very long hours for very little pay; she got motivated to improve their
lives (Mendoza, 2004; Ruiz Sanchez, 2005). Her mother was also an active
member in the community as she was involved in numerous civic organizations and
church activities (Garcia, 2008; Dolores Huerta Foundation, 2014). Huerta s mother
encouraged diversity and made culture a big part of her upbringing (Garcia, 2008;
Dolores Huerta Foundation, 2014) Huerta was raised in Stockton, California; an
agricultural community made up of diverse working families (Garcia, 2008; Dolores
Huerta Foundation, 2014). Through participation in various school clubs and girl
scouts, Huerta reflected her mother s activism with her involvement at Stockton
High School (Dolores Huerta Foundation, 2014). After high school, Huerta
continued her education and earned a provisional teaching credential from
University of Pacific s Delta College in Stockton (Garcia, 2008; Dolores Huerta
Foundation, 2014). Teaching did not last very long for Huerta because she was
unable to continuously see kids (mostly children of farm workers) come to school
hungry and without basic necessities, such as shoes and proper clothing (Mendoza,
2004; Garcia, 2008; Dolores Huerta Foundation, 2014). This experience sparked the
activist in her and she began working towards correcting economic injustice
8. Articles Of Confederation Persuasive Essay
If I had been a U.S. citizen at the time of both the Constitutional Convention and the
state ratification debates, I would have supported the Constitutional Convention. Call
me a federalist, but the Constitution was far superior to the Articles of Confederation
for three reasons: popular sovereignty and republicanism, the ability to collect
national taxes and proportional voting. Without these things you have the articles of
confederation, a constitution that could have brought the United Statescrumbing down
if it had not been replaced with the Constitution we all abide by today.
The biggest fault in the Articles of Confederation was that it called for a confederacy,
each state retains its sovereignty, freedom, and independence, and every Power,
Jurisdiction, and right, which is not by this Confederation expressly delegated to the
United States, in Congress assembled (Articles of Confederation, 1777, p.1). This
state sovereignty went against republicanism, which is more closely associated with
popular sovereignty. The American people want the government s authority to come
from the representatives that they elect. This is easily seen as a crucial idea of the
Constitution in its preamble, We the People of the United States, in Order to form a
more perfect Union ... do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States

When it comes to intervening in a dangerous situation, most people are too afraid to
stand up for what is right. There are some clear steps as to how to intervene in a
dangerous situation such as sexual assault. According to the Marine Corps
Community Service website article,( Master The Three D s To Bystander Intervention
) Bystander intervention is one of the most effective ways to preventsexual assault.
There are 3 D s that help an individual intervene in a dangerous situation. According
to the article, the three D s are To delegate, direct, and to distract.
The first step in intervening or preventing a dangerous situations is to delegate. For
example, if someone has too much to drink, let a bartender or another party goer
know that a person has had too much to drink and that they need to make sure no
one takes advantage of them. By delegated you are making sure that the intoxicated
individual is taken care of by one person or more. When you have more than one
person checking in on an individual you are ensuring that the individual is taken
care of. Sometimes delegation doesn t only just apply in dangerous situations like
sexual assault, but sometimes dangerous situations in a workplace environment. In
the medical field, nurses often delegate certain tasks within their team when a
person is coding and may die. This helps the nurse because he or she is not taking
the sole responsibility to save a person s life. The Fact of the matter is the more

On the other hand, an advantage of qualitative methodology is that it raises more
issues. Choy (2014), states that the strengths of a qualitative methodology is that, it
raises more issues through broad and open ended inquiry. A quantitative
methodology was not used as it summarises results numerically which does not link
with the research question as the research question is to review the lived
experiences of nurses, when carrying out risk assessments on patients who have

fits perfectly with the research question that was chosen, this is because qualitative
research is about experience and the research question is to review the lived
experience of nurses, when carrying out risk assessments on patients who have

to measuring the meanings of people attach to their experiences. This is important, as
the research question is to review the lived experiences of nurses, when carrying out

12. How Chickens Are Factory Farmed Is Inhumane
The most arguably abused animal in the world is the chicken. The common
commercial way of how chickens are factory farmed is inhumane to the animals,
because of the way the chickens are treated. Chickens are given insufficient living
conditions in areas that make it impossible for them to live enjoyable lives, as well
as the amount of birds contained in the buildings. The sake of the fowls health and
growth is cruelty altered, as chemicals and mutations are done to the them
throughout their time on the farms. A chicken that is hatched for the use of a
factory farm will not have the same basic quality of life of a chicken that is turned
out often; the only thing factory farmed chickens get in life is depression and
frustration. The factory farms is only seen from a profit stand point with out the
chickens well being kept in mind. Where the animalsare kept on the factory farms this
forces the animals to suffer in unbearable conditions. Often the barns are truly sheds

issues. Due to the mutations and chemicals given to cause increase growth often
major organs, such as the heart and lungs, can not handle the extra weight and fail;
another issue is the chickens legs can not support the excess weight and the animals

13. Reinforcement In Corrections
There are several departments that come to mind when thinking about corrections
such as, the police, the court system and jail or prison facilities. After a crime has
been committed, I typically think about the subsequent police detainment of the
offender. Proceeding with the arrest, I think about the trial in court that may or may
not be given based on the allegation. Based upon the verdict, the criminal is either
innocent or is sentenced to jail or prison.
I disagree with the argument that putting criminals in prison reduces crime because of
the evidence of negative reinforcement. In a society that typically focuses on
negativity, combating criminal activity becomes the main concern for law
enforcement. Therefore, ideologies of punitive ... Show more content on

prisoners, combining state and federal prison admissions. Although white females are

white female inmates. This discrepancy may be due to the higher accessibility for a
white female to appeal her sentence made possible through an attorney. Black females
may be less likely to afford paying for an attorney and heighten the chance of

14. The Ontological, Cosmological, And Design Argument
Throughout many centuries philosophers have argued over the existence of God. In
today s society many people tend to hesitate in believing in a God because of the
new scientific discoveries. For example, in the mid 1990s scientists built the Hubble
telescope which revealed that there were billions of galaxies in our universe, this
discovery led some people to question how can one divine being create so much and
yet have a personal connection with everyone in the world. Which, in result, may take
some scientific explanation to strengthen one s belief in God, but for those who
believe there is a benevolent God they do not need science to show proof that he
exists because of their morals and beliefs they have been raised to follow. In this
paper I will prove that God does exist by explaining the ontological, cosmological,
and design argument. The ontological argument was an argument created by Saint
Anselm. Anselm argued that if we thought about what God is and what he can do
then we know he must exist. What Anselm means by this is that if our minds can
think of something so great like God, we should realize that an all powerful God
must exist in reality. Anselm states that God is, that than which nothing greater can
be conceived. This quote means if we can comprehend who God is, then there has
to be a more powerful God than in our minds, in reality because if God is such a
perfect being, then this implies that he must be by definition as well.
God is independent of the
15. Historical Accuracy Of Pompeii
The movie Pompeii is based on the eruption of Mount Vesuvius that destroyed the
Roman city of Pompeii. Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79AD, destroying the city and
killing all of its inhabitants. The movie did do a fairly good job of portraying the
correct historical details of what this day in history would have actually been like.
For the opening of the movie the writings of Pliny the younger, a young man who
witnessed the eruption and wrote about the occurrences of that day, were quoted.
Although Pliny had written the description of the day many years after the eruption,
it is the best description on what actually happened. The producers of the movie also
used footage of the actual ruins of Pompeii to help recreate the city for the set and
any green screen footage. By using photos of the ruins they were able to rebuild the

For instance the wife of the mayor was shown as having more power in the
business of the city, but during the times of the Roman Empire she would not have
held any real power. Also, the destruction of the city did not match the real
accounts of what had happened in order to dramatize the story more. In the
description left by Pliny, the city would be covered in up to sixteen feet of ash and
would have more molten lava flowing toward the city. In the movie it showed large
fireballs flying toward the city and not as much ash falling over the city. At the end
of the movie is where the ash begins to take affect, but it is shown as just a giant

The Evolution of Reggae Music
Reggae has sustained the test of time and remains one of the world s last genuine
folk music. The evolution of Reggae music can be traced back to the early 1900 s
with Mento , which is a simple music art form of Jamaican folk music with strong
African roots. Reggae music is protest songs against racism, corruption and injustice.
It has close links with a religion based around the Bible that is re interpreted from a
black s perspective, Rastafarianism .
The key features of Reggae music are the 4/4 time signatures, the emphasised beats 2

The first ever reggae tune was Nanny Goat , by Larry and Alvin. Millie Small, and
her debut single My Boy Lollipop was the perfect example of the success that this

Lollipop was the song responsible for creating a massive explosion of Reggae music
in the local industry. During the Reggae era, artists like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and
Bunny Wailer, Jimmy Cliff, King Stich and Burning Spear started to emerge and
incorporate the offbeat syncopated music style of Reggae into their songs,
transforming the songs into popular hits. Bob Marley was born in 1945 and he
first joined Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer to form The Wailers . Then he produced
his own soul, rock steady (romantic soul), ska and close harmony doo wop style
songs, for example Catch a fire and I shot the Sheriff .
With the war era of the 60 s approaching, reggae finally took form with a mellow
beat, conscious and emotional lyrics and bands that spoke the words of the people.
The spiritual influence of reggae captured fans worldwide and for the first time

produced songs of hope and freedom that related to the wars happening between
Vietnam. The song War by Bob Marley and the Wailers impacted the world. These

17. Sartre
Jean Paul Sartre was an existentialist French philosopher. In Being and Nothingness,
he writes that Man is a useless passion. Sartre reaches this conclusion because man
loses himself as man in order that God may be born. But the idea of God is
contradictory and we lose ourselves in vain. Sartre is saying that, through the
invention of God, man surrenders his freedom and individuality, and therefore, his
humanity. In Existentialismis a Humanism, Sartre elaborates on this by claiming that
humanity has no purpose and that there is no such thing as a human nature. In his
rejection of a perfect God, Sartre raises the significance of the imperfect individual
up to the empty space left in the absence of a divine master. Sartre asserts that... Show

This is despair, or a lack of hope. To hope would be pointless, because any factor
outside of the individual s own influence should not be of concern. There is no
God in Sartre s world, so there is no greater being that possesses the power to
influence these factors. Because of this, Sartre adopts a stance similar to that of
Epictetus, that one should only concern themselves with what is within his power to
influence. As Sartre writes that things will be what men have chosen them to be.
(Sartre, p 36). In this statement, Sartre both assigns responsibility to the human race
for its actions and the choices made each individual human and raises another
issue. If whatever will happen will happen, what is the purpose of trying to change
that which is within our power? Sartre recognizes this problem and addresses it
immediately by answering Man is nothing other than his own project. He exists only
in so far as he realizes himself, therefore he is nothing more than the sum of his
actions, nothing more than his life. (Sartre, p 37). In other words, action is the only
way for an individual to truly exist. If one submits himself to quietism and
complacency, he surrenders his humanity because he is surrendering his individuality
and the ownership of his thoughts to more powerful people. This is exactly the same
reason Sartre rejects the existence of a God and moves that man
18. Injutice Injustice
The fact that crimes, drugs, and criminals have increased in America, is part of the
reason why I am afraid to live in Sacramento. It is really hard to trust anyone or
depend on the criminal justice system. There are even bad cops in America who
have not been convicted for their wrongdoings. Many individuals get away with
their actions because either are financially privileged, or have plenty of connections
in the law enforcement. Those who are defined as middle class or poor do not have
the ability to bribe others to receive what they want, or have the power to relinquish
themselves out of trouble. Injustice is something that has always been relevant; a
problem in American history and a problem today. In the textbook, Give me Liberty
by Eric Foner, he uncovers the story on the trial of Anne Hutchinson. This trial was
brought to my attention because what had happened to her was unethical. Hutchinson
was charged with sedition which is the action by encouraging others to rebel against
the authority. She also held meetings after church to talk about the bible. Anne
Hutchinson announces her own point of views that are above the human law and
church teachings. For example, Her meetings, said Governor Winthrop, were neither
comely in the sight of God, nor fitting to your sex (Foner 74). We were all born with
the ability to speak upon our own judgments and because she was educated and had
her own logical opinions that other women did not have, she was on trial for that.
19. Summary Of Convergence Of The Twain
Convergence of the Twain
The Titanic, born from human greed and wed to fate s punishment, is a modern icon
of decadence. However, Hardy re imagines this icon in his poem The Convergence of
the Twain. Instead of an explicit critique of the ship s ostentatious vanity, Hardy sees
The Titanic s sinking as the judgment for its vaingloriousness and a product of the
ship s conception, development, and wedding to fate.
The poem s organization emphasizes a contrast between different states of the ship s
existence. In fact, the author answers how the ship came to being sunk as the poem
progresses. The ship, which came Deep from human vanity/ And the pride of Life that
planned her , falls out of grace In a solitude of the sea . After the source of its
vitality is engulfed by death ( Steel chambers, late the pyres/ Of her salamandrine
fires ) , the ship finds itself in an underwater hell where Cold currents thrid, and turn
to rhythmic tidal lyres , and grotesque, slimed, dumb, indifferent creatures profanate
what were once Jewels in joy designed . An inhabitant of this hellish habitat, seeing
this gloriousness in vain in such a deprecated state, asks: What is this doing here?
The speaker answers this question by describing how destiny prepared a sinister
mate... A shape of Ice, for the time far and dissociate and how In shadowy silent
distance grew the Iceberg too... as the smart ship grew In stature, grace, and hue .
Then, the ship and the iceberg finally converge being anon twin halves of one
august event at the discretion of destiny, also known as The Spinner of the Years .
The organization of the poem implies a metaphysical statement; fate is the master of
all, and servant of none. It doesn t matter how Deep from human vanity or how
many Jewels in joy designed characterize mankind s power; It is all under the
jurisdiction of fate.
Imagery provides Hardy a vehicle to define essential aspects of the relationship
between mankind and nature. The author argues that fate works beyond the authority
of mortals; Only it decides to match the ship and [The] shape of Ice in an ... intimate
welding of their later history . In fact, The convergence of the twain comes only Till
the Spinner of
20. Theories Of Law And Justice
Essay #1
Theories of law and justice answers the questions on how/ why in society a person
behavior could be seen or handle as a criminal (Akers Sellers, 2009). Also the
theory helps explain why a certain behavior is consider illegal and what punishment
needs to be taken for that behavior/conduct. To answer these questions, the theory
looks at the variables which are social, economic, and economic which has it affects
on law and justice (Akers Sellers, 2009). For theories of crime and criminal behavior
it tries to answer the question of why there is a difference of group rating on crime
and deviance. Also, why are some people able to commit criminal verses others
(Akers Sellers, 2009)? The first question is Macro level, so it looks at if social,
economics, cultural factors, structures, and factors affects it. Then the second
question that was mention is micro level because instead of looking at a group it is
looking at a individual and its interactions/intrapersonal factors (Howell Chapter 1
slides, 2015).
For social structure theories it is crime that looks at the group difference which is
Macro level. The predictors are societal forces and cultural factors (Howell Chapter
1 slides, 2015). In this theory people are in different groups and so is the crime rate
that is different in these groups. The differences is due to the predictors that affects
it. Process theory is the micro level that focus on the individual behavior. Even

I Spy Racial Inequity
The children s activity I Spy assists participants in identifying objects in their world.
While practicing awareness of the world is a vital lesson, do participants lack deeper
levels of mindfulness? For example, people pinpoint objects in their physical
environment with I Spy, but they may not notice how their cultural socialization
promotes social stratification. Tracy Ore (2014) states that society socializes its
members through their interpersonal interactions and society s institutions (pp. 8 9).
As I have progressed in my social work studies, I realize the educational and family
institutions have given me an implicit knowledge that being white is superior to
being a minority.
The Influence of my Educational Institution Education is a beneficial tool because
knowledge of different subject areas can create opportunities for children. Schools
additionally teach students where they belong in a stratified, limiting society in
indirect ways. Throughout my history courses, I learned that explorers and settlers
enculturated the savage Indians. Textbooks emphasized how whites built their
wonderful communities after ridding the land of Native American influence. I now
know this story is not accurate. In Occupied America: A History of Chicanos,
Chicano Studies professor Rodolfo AcuГ±a (2015) notes that Western thinkers

The Change in Resistance of a Carbon Paper
Introduction
The aim of this experiment is to see how the resistance of a carbon coated piece of
paper changes when the different variables change.
Variables
A variable is a change in an experiment that could alter the outcome/results of that
experiment, and for this experiment the main variables are type of paper, width of
paper, length of paper, and temperature.
We are going to be studying how changing the width of the paper affects the
resistance, and so to ensure a fair test we will have to keep all of the other variables
constant, as if they were also changing the results could be affected and the
experiment would not be of any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Preliminary Experiment
The purpose of the preliminary experiment was to decide on an appropriate length to
keep the paper constant at, and an appropriate shunt for the ammeter. The layout and
format is the same as the main experiment (see later).
We tested the various ammeter shunts, and decided to use the 10mA shunt, as it gave a
reading in the middle of the scale, whereas the other shunts had given readings off or
almost off the scale.
We also found that 32.5cm was the optimum length for the paper, as it puts the
reading at about 10 on the scale, which is a good as it ensures that as we decrease
the width (hence decreasing the amperes), the readomg will not go off the scale as
it was high to start with if we had started with a length that put it at something lower
like 3 to start with, it could have gone off the bottom of the scale and we would have
to start over.

25. The Mamluk Military, Ottoman Military And Gunpowder
Weapons
Mamluk military, Ottoman military, and firearms Military, the Mamluks were a
professional force recruited as young Turkish, then increasingly as Circassian slaves
who endured rigorous training and were disinclined to adopt firearms. The Mamluk
s disinclination appears partly motivated by prior success, as the Mamluks were able
to effectively use heavy cavalrywith horse archer capabilities to successfully defeat
the Crusader armies and vanquish the Mongols at the Battle of Ain Jalut. The
Mamluks were also opposed to firearms from a cultural standpoint, viewing them as
un masculine, refusing to train with them, and believing their martial qualities and
dedication, honed through years of training, could overcome any technological
advances. Mamluk military manuals like an 16th century publication titled Arab
Archery reiterate the Mamluks were dedicated to the concept of holy war and
invested heavily in the use of cavalry tactics and the compound bow, tactics which
required years of rigorous training to master and as alluded to previously, secured the
Mamluks multiple military successes since the founding of the Sultanate. Granted,
more practical concerns may have influenced the Mamluks disinclination to adopt
gunpowder weapons. The Mamluks, heavily invested in cavalry tactics, would have
found limited use for firearms as wheel lock firearms which could be utilized by
cavalry first appeared in 1520 and did not reach the Ottomans until 1543.

Being There by Jerzy Kosinski is an allegorical tale about a man named Chance
whose experience of the world is limited to his work as a gardener and what he has

27. Literary Analysis Of The Dogs Could Teach Me By Gary
Paulsen
Out of the three stories, The Dogs Could Teach Me, The Sniper, and The Flowers,
The Dogs Could Teach Me by Gary Paulsen best demonstrates description. This
proves to be true through Paulsen s consistency of descriptions throughout the
entire story, unlike The Sniper. The Dogs Could Teach Me begins with, There was
a point where an old logging trail went through a small, sharp sided gully a tiny
canyon . . . It might have been a game trail that was slightly widened or an old foot
trail that had not caved in. Likewise, Liam O Flaherty starts out The Sniper by
writing, Dublin lay enveloped in darkness but for the dim light of the moon that
shone through fleecy clouds, casting a pale light as of approaching dawn over the
streets . . . However, by the third paragraph of The Sniper O Flaherty scrivens, He
was eating a sandwich hungrily. He had eaten nothing since morning. He had been
too excited to eat, while Paulsen continues the same pattern of writing saying,
Later I saw the beauty of it, the falling lobes of blue ice that had grown as the water
froze and refroze, layering on itself. Even though the very beginning of The Sniper
collates with the beginning of The Dogs Could Teach Me, in the sense that both
writers start out with very strong descriptions, Paulsen s portrayals become more
powerful because of how consistent they are. Between Paulsen and O Flaherty s
pieces of writing above, the reader gains a clearer picture of the ambience
surrounding Paulsen in The Dogs Could Teach Me than of O Flaherty s character
eating a sandwich due to the shift of focus O Flaherty decides to take. Paulsen s
main goal out of the two examples above was very evidently to describe these
situations, howbeit, O Flaherty s was not. Since the author of The Sniper decides to
turn to action based writing instead of creating vivid pictures in the third paragraph,
it causes The Dogs Could Teach Me to become a better example of descriptionthan
The Sniper.
Paulsen also chooses to incorporate a variety of figurative language into the short
story The Dogs Could Teach Me, whereas the author of The Flowers does not, taking
Paulsen s descriptions to the next level . For instance, a simile that appears in

several hours. Replace the cap, test again with the voltmeter, and a more healthy

MN502: Theoretical Foundations of Advanced Nursing
Dr. Phelps Introduction
Concepts are ideas that can assist nurses with understanding various situations. This
enables researchers seeking scientific theories in order to identify and measure theory
components. It is best to have clear concepts in order to prevent misunderstandings.
Confusion can hinder patient s knowledge when providing patient education. Poor
communication can lead to unintentional non compliance and delay recovery
processes (Stewart, Schofield, Elliott, Torrance, Leveille, 2014).
Pain
Young, old, male, female, we all feel degrees of pain for a variety of reasons. Pain
is real and it is different for everyone. Pain can hold a magnitude of negative effects
for all. Medication and non medication interventions are approaches that can lessen
pain. To understand pain, and how to manage pain, one should explore the true
concept of pain.
Pain can refer to an emotional, psychological, or spiritual state; also, pain may
result from a physical condition. The purpose of this paper is to study the concept of
pain and to comprehend the pathophysiology of physical pain. Physical pain can be
acute or chronic, mild or severe, dull or sharp, and in a precise location or referred
(Mosby s Dictionary of Medicine, Nursing Health Professions, 2006). Through
understanding this concept, nurses can initiate interventions that will ease the

Poor Nicaraguans have worse social indicators when it comes to education than
those at a higher income bracket. Quit ironic in a sense, but in Nicaragua access to
education is universal, school is free for everyone, but many economic and social
berries block the path to education. As a result, many of the poor children do not
even complete primary school due to late entrance to school, high repetition of
classes, and the low quality of the schools. Another key factor that has lead to the
poverty and suffering of the people is the Nicaraguan health system. The Nicaraguan
Health system has been moving from a socialist system to a more modularized
system inching towards universal health care for its people. The total population is
covered by a social health program. In January 2007, the government introduced the

37. Innovation In Child Care Essay
This research expects to identify a process of innovation suitable for individuals in a
community context. In this process, this study will examine various psychological
and social issues having profound influences on people to be innovative. However, an
issue related to the understanding of the meaning of innovationwon t be overlooked,
which remains vague and ambiguous. The latter will help to gain philosophical
insights of the concept, and will contribute to developing a generalized definition of
innovation. The former will enhance individuals dexterity in the processof achieving
innovation.
The concept of innovation originates in Greece during the fifth century BC with a

However, the process of innovation is closely linked to the understanding of
innovation whether it is an act of bringing changes or consequence of an action
which represents changes. It is easily understandable that any particular action does
not ensure the same outcome but may bring changes, and all changes are not
considered innovation. So, it is imperative to develop a clear understanding of the
concept for proposing a generalized process of innovation.
The contextual focus of this study will contribute to bringing innovation in child
care services by assisting child care workers to be innovative, which will reduce the
gap between the services offered by child care workers and the services expected by
other stakeholder groups.
Academically, this study will contribute to resolving a century old puzzle associated
with the research on innovation. An adequate and generalized understanding of
innovation and the process of innovation appears eminent for satisfying the

40. The Role Of Hardware And Software Improved Over Time
Since the release of Donkey Kong in 1981, platforming based video games have
been concerned with reaching a goal. From the early 1980s to the late 1990s,
obtaining the objective fell under a linear, two point process. For example, in
Super Mario Bros, the player must guide the plumber to a flagpole in order to
complete a level. Once the player completes the thirty second stage, he achieves the
substantial goal of saving the princess. In contrast to the Mega Man series, the hero
must annihilate eight robot masters before defeating a diabolical, mad scientist.
Essentially, the player is tasked to complete an underlying objective before moving
to the ultimate goal. However, as the aspects of hardware and software improved
over time, game... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film is broken down into three attempts. While the events in the plot changes
in each run, the two point process is still embedded with the same exact goal. Lola
must obtain the money (the preliminary goal) and deliver it to Manni (the ultimate
goal¬). In order to explain what I mean, I will break down the first run followed
by a summary of the second run. In the first run, Lola starts by running out of her
apartment building via an animated sequence, passing a man and his dog. Then,
the film transitions back to live action, where Lola is sprinting on the streets.
Suddenly, she bumps into a woman and her baby carriage. After a rushed apology,
Lola runs along the side of a bicyclist who attempts to sell his bike to the
protagonist. She refuses and keeps sprinting. As she gets closer to her bank (in
hopes of accomplishing the preliminary goal), she nearly gets hit by a car, causing
a crash due to distracted driving. While Lola rushes into the bank, her father asks a
mistress if he wants to have a baby with him. Suddenly, and to her father s surprise,
Lola enters her father s office and asks for one hundred thousand German marks.
However, in this one scene alone, Lola meets the mistress, learns that the mistress is
pregnant, and finally knows that her father is not biologically related to her and that
he plans to elope with the mistress. Lola s emotions
41. The Niger Delta And The Oil Companies
The Niger Delta is a region of Nigeria that is very rich in crude oil and gas. Crude
oil and gas make up 70% of the country s revenue and 95% of it s export earnings
(Ezekoli, 5608). Those percentages are incredibly high and represents large
amounts of money that can be found in the region. However, the people of the
Niger Delta never see the wealth that comes from their natural resources. The wealth
instead goes to the oil companies set up in the area as well as the pockets of a few
elite government officials. The disconnect between the people of Nigeriaand the oil
companies and governments is incredible (Ezekoli, 5609). The effects are slum
turned neighborhoods, increased poverty, and job loss. In order to improve the
conflict in the Niger Delta, the government and oil companies need to allow more
involvement of women and people as voters and elected officials, and create or
adhere a sustainable environmental regulations plan. The poor relationship
between the oil companies and the communities in the Niger Delta is not sudden,
it s historical context dates back to as early as the 1930 s and 1950 s. It was 1937
when two British oil companies merged into what today is known as Shell. Shell
replaced the initial German oil company in the area from 1908 (Umejesi, 117). Shell
set up impressive human and material forces and conducted their first drilled oil well
in 1951 in the city of Iho. Worry quickly struck everyone in Nigeria. Shell worried
they would not find

43. Why Did Julius Caesar Join The Conspiracy
With Brutus joining the conspiracy it will greatly increase the popularity of the
group. The more people that they can get to dislike Caesar the better. Since Brutus
is well known and his popularity is high he can influence the people to join and
make them think that Caesar is bad for them. If they all gain hatred for the new
ruler than the people can easily get him killed so they senators can be back in
power. However, Brutus can do things that would be terrible and frowned upon by
other citizens, so the conspiracy can use that to their advantage and gain more and
more power to defeat Caesar with. This is especially a pro because of just that fact
alone. If Brutus can get a whole city on your side then he would be a great addition
to the conspiracy.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the word gets out and rumors get spread then things could fall apart. Brutus s
popularity could spike others attentions about the conspiracy and attract the wrong
kind of people. With the conspiracy trying to get Brutus to join he may not want to
or he may find out that it wasn t the citizens who wrote the letters and was the
conspiracy instead. That would lead to a big fight and disrupt everything the
conspiracy has up to this point. Other than those few reasons there does not seem
to be too many negative reasons on getting Brutus to join. I think that the pros
really weigh out the cons by so much that the cons don t even seem to be in part of
the question. The plan that they have to incorporate Brutus into their group seems
like a really viable option to them. If they can get him to join I don t see why it
would be bad due to all of the people he could get to join which would be the biggest
help the conspiracy needs, someone who is powerful enough to control the
44. Extrinsic Analysis Of Mythologies By R. L. Futrell
Introduction
The flash fiction selection I chose for my performance is the story Mythologies
written by R. L. Futrell. I chose this story initially because of the title, having an
interest in most cultures mythologies and stories I started to read the story.
However, upon reading the story I was drawn in by the world surrounding the text.
A single paragraph of context is all that is given about why the story is being told.
The rest is dedicated to a boring drive to West Virginia and the trivialities of the
expedition and the sights, smells, and sounds of the world around them. The
apparent lack of a central message is what really drew me towards the story.
Extrinsic Analysis
R. L. Futrell is an author who lives in Xenia, Ohio is known for his works Virginia
Adversaria, Zone 3, Harpur Palate, The Cresset Review, Flights!, Poetry Motel,
Square Lake, The Tar Wolf Review, and 88: A Journal of Literature and Fine Arts.
He also teaches creative writing Cedarville University. In his story he mentions the
two stories The Five Ages of Man and the Flood and Prometheus, which are quite
telling of the meaning of the story. As with the story the area around the road they
are driving on is flooding, not with water however but with rocks and guilt. The
Iron age of man, the worst age, according to The Five Ages of Man and the Flood
was what Zeus decided to destroy and it is the mobile homes, rusted swing sets and
cars that are being destroyed by a group who is not gods but higher on
45. Chemical Castration and Physical Castration Essay
A Critical Analysis of the Effects of Chemical Castration and Physical Castration on
the Recidivism Rates of Sex Offenders
Introduction
This paper examines the effects of chemical castration and physical castration on the
recidivism rates of sex offenders.
Using theory integration or the multifactor approach, the findings reveal there are
several factors influencing sex offender recidivism. Both chemical castration and
physical castration have the potential to reduce the recidivism rates of sex offenders
by lowering testosterone levels, diminishing sexual urges, and making sexual urges
more controllable if the sexual urges are motivated by increased testosterone levels.
Based on theory integration, most sex offences are not ... Show more content on

44% of rape victims are children under the age of eighteen.
Unfortunately, only one out of sixteen rapists will ever get convicted and serve jail
time; the other fifteen will walk free (RAINN Statistics, 2003). There is debate
about what to do with the small percentage of sex offenders who do wind up in
prison. Some states and criminal justice agencies are experimenting with new
methods of dealing with paroled sex offenders, namely chemical castration and
physical castration, in order to curb sex offender recidivism.
Laws were first passed in the United States in 1996 allowing for the chemical
castration of sex offenders. Chemical castration is the medicinal treatment of deviant
sexual behavior by reducing testosterone secretion in order to diminish sexual
preoccupation and urges, making self control easier (Treatment of Men with
Paraphilia, 1998). Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone acetate) is named as the
legally mandated drug of choice for chemical castration (Castration and Drug
Therapy, 1999). The drug is administered by injection.
California was the first state to enact legislation in support of chemical castration.
According to the California Board of Prison Terms (2003) any person guilty of a
first conviction of specified sex offenses, where the victim is under 13 years of age,
may be required to receive medroxyprogesterone acetate treatment upon parole, and
any person convicted of two such
46. Wilbur Unisex Research Paper
In a small, sleepy town in upstate New York, a devastating crime has been
committed. Dr. Andreas Poppy was known to be a bit of a lazy doctor when
making house calls. He would leave a pill and a bill and leave the rest up to fate.
This earned him a few enemies along the way, but no one thought that he would
ever be kidnapped and used for his access to prescription drugs. When Wilbur
Unisex came upon the scene he was able to deduce that four men had been waiting
to kidnap Dr. Poppy, take him, his drugs, and his prescription pad, and make a
break for the Canadian border. The evidence in the room that Wilbur Unisex came
upon points to four men as the culprits. First, the shelves along the wall held items
that would indicate four people had been using the cabin. There were four sets of
dishes and cups stacked on the shelves and there were large containers of food,
which would indicate that more than one person was using the cabin. Another piece
of evidence that suggest that four people were present was the arrangement of the
room itself. There is evidence that there were three men playing cards at the table.

One can conclude that the men were from Canada from the coins they were using
to gamble with. They left behind several Canadian coins on the table, which is a
clear indication that they men were not from upstate New York. Another clue was
left behind to tell police where they were planning on taking Dr. Poppy. A small
map with an X marking a spot in Canada was lying carelessly on the floor by the
door. There is also evidence that Dr. Poppy was taken, and not killed. Next to the
map is what appears to be tape and rope. This would suggest that the men bound the
doctor and took him with them on their trip back up to Canada. In Canada, the men
hope to use Dr. Poppy to secure more prescription
