DEFENDANT`S MEMORANDUM
Defendant, by counsel, respectfully submits its memorandum in the case:
The Case
The prosecution, through the undersigned Public Prosecutor, charges Romulo Takad with the crime of
violation of R.A. 6539 (Anti Carnapping Act) by alledging that the accused, with intent to gain and

He could have very well meant that kung makikita ko `yan sa Pasig, idedemanda ko kayo ng
carnapping dahil wala kayong karapatang kunin ang tricycle sa amin . She was not even present at the
carnapping incident and merely relied on the communication to her by Parlade in the morning. With
the foregoing, Aguirre could not solely base the accusation by mere suppositions and presumptions in
order to incriminate Takad.
II. CREDIBILITY OF THE EYEWITNESSES
First. Zenny, on her testimony, stated that she knew of the incident when Parlade told her about it at
7:00 in the morning while Parlade alledged that after he ran to chase the tricycle which was then
driven by the carnapper and he failed to catch up with it, he and Zenny looked for the tricycle the
whole night.
Second. The tricycle was stolen in the early morning of November 21, and Parlade gave his statement
to the police in the afternoon of the same day as supported by his affidavit which was timed 1:30pm.
Third. Parlade said he was 5 meters away and so somewhat near from the tricycle when it was stolen
which was against his sworn statement wherein he stated medyo malayo . And when he shouted, the
carnapper looked back but suddenly started the motor. From that Parlade said he recognized the
carnapper whose purpose was to flee and so merely glanced back. This was incoherent with his
testimony in the witness stand that the man looked backed at him in the terms medyo matagal po .

Urban Geography And The Human Agency
With the sources provided it is evident how influential the social structure is on urban geography and
the human agency in the continuum of the socio spatial dialect. The talk by Wilkinson outlines social
problems that correlate to inequality that is widening throughout developed countries. The Figures
provide statistics of the inequality within Canada and the patterns that are not temporary but also not
inevitable as discussed in the article about the Three Cities of Toronto. The article analyses the social
and geographic transformation that has occurred in Toronto through the past 35 years by looking at
census tracts and illustrating the disparities that are occurring and will continue to without a change of
policy. Together, the sources ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sweden who has a fairly equal society had low results for social problems. Wilkinson also made a
point to state that national income and economic growth had no correlation to life expectancy in the
developed world anymore. Wilkinson goes on to state that the bigger the income gaps within societies
lead to a deteriation of these social problems within societies. The difference when comparing
societies and looking within societies was income only made a difference when looking within
societies. This is a result of an idiographic approach where we look at the relative income within a
specific society to understand the social status patterns that s occurring. It links to the idea talked
about in class about scale and comparing information from the blockface data versus the census tract.
The blockface data has extreme detail (or spatial variation) and the census tract does not have as much
information (reduces variability). In this analogy, societies would be the blockface data and different
countries would be the census tract. Turning our attention specifically on Canada, we can examine
Figure A and see the inequality that has been rising to an unprecedented high of income inequality.
Although we are see that through taxation this inequality has been reduced, the problem still remains
significant as we can see the household inequality is drastically rising in all the major metropolitans in
Canada especially from 2000 2005. This is

A Tree Grows In Brooklyn Analysis
Tenacity: A Tree Grows In Brooklyn A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith, is a novel that
showcases the lives of a poor family living in Brooklyn and the people that are connected to them. The
story revolves around a young girl Francie and about the different hardships her family and she goes
through. The main theme of this book is tenacity and is shown by the many ways the Nolans find
happiness. The word tenacity means determination, which is a quality the Nolans exhibit throughout
the story. In the book they are faced with many hardships, yet they always find a way to tread around a
problem when they are with each other. At one point, Francie explains, People always think that
happiness is a faraway thing, thought Francie, something

How To Write A Reflective Essay On Report Card
For some students a report card is an accurate reflection of their abilities, aspirations, and future work
habits. Many friends of mine have flawless, or near flawless, report cards. Straight A s and weighted
GPA s well over 4.0 grace their every progress report, and I am certain they will continue this streak of
academic excellence well into the future. For others, C s, D s and fail s are a normal occurrence, and
much like the straight A students, I have no doubt that they will continue down this path. But for some
students, like myself, a report card is not an accurate picture of academic ability. I am not afraid to
admit to friends, family, or schools I intend to apply to that my grades aren t good. I haven t had a

To this day I still enjoy programming, and what some see as homework, I see as a good way to spend
a Saturday. On the other hand, I struggle to find value in classes such as Literature or History. While
there are aspects of both subjects that I enjoy, I don t believe they have any place in a required
curriculum for a high school student who knows what he wants to do. This admittedly pessimistic
view of many of my classes has led to bad work habits, and subsequently to bad grades, yet my drive
in classes that do interest me, and that I know I will one day find value in, has produced B s or even A
s for the first time in years. For instance, once I recognized the potential of math in computer
programming, even including concepts I never thought I d use(such as imaginary numbers), my grades
in my math classes skyrocketed. I brought a C in mathematical analysis up to a B, and this year in AP
Calculus I ve started the year well with an A in the first semester. Yet another example of my success
in subject areas I care about is my time spent in the Academic Decathlon program. I had heard about
this team and their many successes even before entering high school, but when my grades started to
slip I figured I had no chance at joining. However, the Academic Decathlon program accepts students
with a variety of GPA s who make up three different teams accordingly. I found my niche on the
Varsity, or C Team, and right from

Magical Realism In Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Kids taken from mothers, people stripped of their cultures, and families separated. Latin American
people have gone through burdens unimaginable to other, more developed, countries around the
world. Latin America has a very distinct culture, but that culture was stripped from the people and
replaced with another culture. Latin America s diverse culture shows in its use of magical realism and
their intriguing ways of telling history. Magical realism is used to represent the mistreated figures and
atrocious leaders in their literature. One of these writers is Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Born in
Aracataca, Colombia this latino writer used magical realism in his stories to represent the conditions
in Latin America. He uses characters in his stories to represent Latin America and how the countries
people are treated. Gabriel originally went to school to be a lawyer, but later gave that up to be a
journalist. His short stories and inspirational speeches were awarded the Nobel Prize of Literature and
the International Literature Award. Although Latin America was beaten down, they still persevered.
They gained their independence and started to become the great country they once were. Like Gabriel
said in his speech, The Solitude of Latin America, Nevertheless, in the face of oppression, pillage, and
abandonment, our reply is life. This tells us that Latin America, in the face of defeat, rises and comes
back twice as strong. The constant oppression of their people and the suffering

Environmental Effects Of Mercury Pollution
1 1. Introduction Mercury pollution is omnipresent in marine ecosystems, and is present in water
column, as well in benthic sediment. Mercury dispersal is a natural process, where mercury
compounds are released from Earths crust by volcano activity or by weathering the rocks (Ebinghaus
et al, 1999). However, the concentration of mercury in the environment, both in air and water
ecosystems, has risen dramatically after 1950 when intensified industrialisation occurred after World
War II. This hazardous element, after being released from industrial plants, diffuses in rivers and
eventually pollutes the oceans (EPA, Unites States Environmental Protection Agency, 2017). Once in
the water, mercury ends to be bioaccumulated in tissue of marine organisms, where the intoxication
from mercury in small or large doses provokes severe damages, particularly affecting central nervous
system and induce chromosomal aberrations (Porto et al, 2005; Zahir et al, 2005). This prolonged
exposure to mercury is more evident in animals placed higher in food chains, due to mercury
biomagnification effect (Wyn,et al, 2009; Al Reasi et al, 2007). Humans are especially sensitive to
mercury toxic effects, being on the top of food webs (Barbaros et al, 2003; Lavoie et al, 2013). A wide
range of industries use mercury or produce mercury waste during the manufacturing processes,
however the major polluter are industry branches related to the production of gold (mining activities),
fossils combustion, but

The Symbolic Meaning of the Radio in The Enormous Radio...
The Symbolic Meaning of the Radio in The Enormous Radio
Many authors use the personification of inanimate objects to symbolize the feelings and expressions
of their characters. One example of this is in John Cheever s short story, The Enormous Radio.
Although critics argue that the characteristics of the radio are the opposite of those of Jim and Irene
Westcott, the radio actually reflects the couple s life.
Even though in the beginning of the story the Westcotts old radio is outdated and constantly
malfunctioning, it has the same innocence and simplicity as the couple. The radio, being an old
instrument (817), and the couple, resembling statistical reports in college alumni bulletins (817), are
both average and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Westcotts and the new radio are physically similar to each other. Jim and Irene appear to all who
know them as the perfect couple with the American dream lifestyle, but beneath the smooth exterior of
their lives lurk serious problems (O Hara 35). This is similar to the radio which appeared normal on
the outside, but on the inside contained violent forces (818). Another problem the Westcotts and the
radio share is increased chaos. The more the couple listens to the radio the more the instrument
develops a mistaken sensitivity to discord (818). This coincides with the couple s increased fighting
and with their memories of their tarnished past. The most noticeable example of the similarities is not
between the couple and the radio, but between Irene and the radio. Irene felt like the new radio stood
among her intimate possessions like an aggressive intruder (817); it ironic Irene should feel that way
since she too has become an aggressive intruder in the lives of her friends and neighbors.
In the third portion of the story the radio is repaired, and the couple s relationship also seems to return
to its normal state. For example, all the story s altercations become fixed, although none are actually
solved. Jim couldn t get rid of the noises, so he turned the radio off (818) and eventually had it
repaired. This is the same as the couple s inability to change their problems, so instead they just ignore
them. After the radio is repaired the household

Analysis Of The Centntaur By May Swenson
In May Swenson s poem The Centaur, she talks about a little girl that uses her enormous mind to
imagine herself transforming into a horse. The girl is in a whole new world of her imagination as she
rides through the hills of her backyard. Swenson allows readers to take part in the transformation from
human to horse that the adolescent girl described undergoes, thus emphasizing the importance of
childhood and imagination on the woman s identity and how strong and intelligent they could be.
In the poem, May uses the Greek mythological creature, the Centaur, as a symbol of the girl
pretending to ride the horse and then became the horse himself. A centaur is a half man half horse
creature. Centaurs are strong creatures they stand for being strong, brave, and they have a hard identity
which reflects the girl s identity of having all these characteristics. Swenson makes it seem as though
the girl herself is a Centaur. Words and phrases like: my hair flopped to the side like the mane of a
horse (line 29 to 30), I shied and skittered and reared (line 33), I was the horse and the rider (line 38),
spanked my own behind (line 40 ), and my two hoofs beat a gallop along the bank (line 41 to 42 ) . All
these symbolize that the girl is imagining being a horse and a human at the same time like a centaur. At
the end when her mother said: why is your mouth all green ? (line 71 ) it shows how the girl has a very
high level of imagination that while she was imagining to be a horse she

Sherman Alexie
How Does Sherman Alexie Engage readers in The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part Time Indian. In
the moving young adult novel, The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part Time Indian, The audience is
instantly engaged from the first chapter alone. The author, Sherman Alexie, writes loosely about his
own life on the Spokane Reservation and all the issues Native Americans face on a daily basis. The
novel is created in such a way that it seems it is a diary, belonging to a teenage boy named Arnold
Junior Spirit. This means that it includes typical adolescent humour, problems and more. Alexie also
uses cartoons to better enhance and portray the meaning of the novel. To begin with, Alexie writes as

Although almost all teenagers try to find their identity it is even more so with Native Americans, this
is because many of them want to change their families and get out of poverty, but they do not think
that they have the capabilities. One way Junior sets his character is with cartoons. His cartoons are
almost on every page and often help to further explain the feelings he has. The cartoons are something
that he and Rowdy used to laugh at with each other, but when Junior and Rowdy weren t friends,
Junior would sometimes go to Rowdy s house and give him a new cartoon, just to make sure that
Rowdy still cared. Another part of Junior s identity is that he is the only one left on the rez with hope .
A really fine example of this is when he relates his dreams about how he hopes to leave the reservation
and do something that will make him

What Is My Greatest Accomplishments
From the first taste of accomplishment we go on to set new goals, and the goals we set aren t only for
the accomplishments and accolades that come with them but most importantly for self contention to be
the best we can be, to be great. Well my first taste of accomplishment came from an orange sphere and
a hoop as a child. On my 5th birthday, my old man brought home a basketball hoop, not knowing what
it was, I was intrigued at first sight. Looking back, as an avid sports lover now, I can tell you that
whether it had been a basketball, soccer ball, baseball, lacrosse ball, football, a punching bag, a pool,
or a track, the first taste of accomplishment comes from the first pass, shot, goal, touchdown, hit, run,
or leap, and from there you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We lead through the first half of play 35 25, I had only scored 5 points but my team was winning and
that was most important. We found ourselves in the fourth quarter up by two points, with 1min
30seconds to go I had 20 of our team s points. Norristown was on a role scoring 10 unanswered points
to put themselves back in the game. Our coach called a time out with one minute left. The plan was to
get me the ball, for an open shot, coach drew up the play and we tried to carry it out. Our plan didn t
fall through and Norristown got the defensive rebound, going down the court to score 2 points on a
toughly contested mid range shot. It was our ball with 35 seconds on the clock. We tried to chew the
clock and get a good shot off, and we did just that. I scored the record breaking basket with 7 seconds
left. Norristown had the ball down two with very little time on the clock. We knew we just needed one
stop. One stop and we d become state champions forever. Norristown inbounded the ball and drove
down court, we played them tight trying not to give up a three pointer. No points we we re champions,
2pts would tie it and take us to overtime, 3points... well, 3pts would end our season, and we d come up
short on being the best. Only two seconds to go, the ball went up, off a deep three pointer. The hearts

Humanitarian Intervention Essay
The key objections to humanitarian intervention include the conflict of interests with the self
interested state and sovereignty, the difficulty of internal legitimacy, the problematical Responsibility
to Protect (R2P) doctrine, and the debate over legality of intervention. The issue of morality stands as
an overarching issue which touches on all of these. Overall, one finds that despite a moral imperative
to intervene, humanitarian intervention should not occur but is perhaps the lesser of a series of evils.
In realist theory, states are self interested in that their own relative gains are favoured over absolute
gains (i.e. gains for the entire society of states). This raises questions of motive and the potential for
abuse in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it can be argued that the motives behind intervention are not as important as the
interventions themselves the moral function of humanitarian intervention is to save lives and this can
be achieved with or without altruistic motives. To this a possible reply is that seemingly unjust
intervention may aggravate the receiving state, more so perhaps in military interventions than
economic, political or social. A threatened state is arguably more likely to initiate a backlash.
However, such an argument cannot be made against a UN sanctioned intervention, where it can be
agreed that the intervention is legitimate and in the interests of the global community. The issue of
marginalising state sovereignty completely ignores the fact that sovereignty is granted by the
international community , . The arguments that states such as China may put forward, that state
sovereignty is absolute and deserving of unadulterated respect, rests on the idea that states grant
themselves sovereignty, which upon reflection, one finds to be untrue. State sovereignty can only be
realised if it is acknowledged by the global society of states. To this a realist might argue that
theoretical sovereignty is separate from actual sovereignty, and that states will defend their
sovereignty regardless of its

Toad Revisited Larkin
This poem is Larkin s monologue about work. Larking walks through a park and even though he finds
it an appealing and pleasurable sight, he would rather like to keep himself busy with work. He does
not want to be lazy like the people at the park but would rather like to perform his duties meticulously
so that when he dies he can have the satisfaction of having worked so hard. Toad Revisited is Larkin s
mental debate in which he weighs the advantages and disadvantages of work and of leisure; and
comes to the definite conclusion that work is preferable to sloth or to leisure unlike the people around
him. Toad work refers to the easy work that people do that does not need much intelligence or skills.
Their jobs are easy which therefore, in Larkin s view, makes them lazy. He is the opposite of these
people as he is intelligent and educated which is why he needs a break and walks through the park
unlike the rest of them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Work, which the people he sees in the park avoid by being lazy. He is saying, although work is still
unpleasant (like a toad), it is something that gives him a sense of purpose. It s something that will help
him in life and he will do it until the end of his life. He has accepted the fact that working for him is
preferable to not working, and he actually asks the toad (work) to help him through the rest of his life
as he walks down Cemetery road, which is a place of death. Larkin means he is going to work at his
current job that he might not necessarily like until he dies, which gives us a sense that he is at ease
with doing so he sees that the alternative is far worse (the alternative being the people at the park).
There is therefore an acceptance of the toad work as being not only necessary but also

Case Study Summary of Zara and Oxford Industries
Summary of Zara
Zara specializes in inexpensive fashions for women and men between the ages of 16 and 35. In
keeping with the spirit of that demographic, Zara moves quickly. Like many apparel retailers, it has
two seasons fall/winter and spring/summer but selections change frequently within those periods.
Items spend no more than two weeks on the shelf before making way for new merchandise, and stores
are replenished twice a week.
With annual growth of around 20 percent in both sales and number of stores, Zara was finding that
strategy increasingly difficult to execute. Part of the Inditex group of fashion distributors, it currently
has more than 1,100 stores in 68 countries. With so much volume flowing through the supply chain,

As part of this transformation, the Atlanta based company embraced a brand focused business strategy.
In 2003, Oxford acquired the island inspired Tommy Bahama operations, followed by the 2004
acquisition of Ben Sherman a well known London based brand made famous by the popularity of its
shirts among British rock stars.
Oxford s legacy business units, Lanier Clothes and Oxford Apparel, also evolved. As one of the
leading suppliers of men s tailored clothing to retailers, Lanier Clothes designs and markets suits,
sports coats, suit separates and dress slacks. While continuing to sell these under private labels, it also
has licensed a number of well known brands, including Geoffrey Beene, Kenneth Cole and Dockers.
These products span a wide price range and are sold at national chains, department stores, specialty
stores and discount retailers throughout the United States. Oxford Apparel s products range from dress
shirts and western wear to suit separates and golf apparel, designed mostly for private label customers
like Lands End, Federated Department Stores and Men s Wearhouse.
Oxford Industries also sells through 55 of its own stores. In the late 1980s, early in its transformation
process and prior to the acquisition of Tommy Bahama and Ben Sherman, Oxford realized that it
needed to bring its business divisions up to speed with more robust information technology. After

Analysis Of The Turning By Tim Winton
Throughout the 17 short stories in Tim Winton s novella The Turning , there are a number of different
language techniques that Winton has used to enhance the central theme. Some of the main techniques
that Winton had used include; colloquial language, inclusive language and intertextuality. Winton had
used these language techniques across two stories, Damaged Goods and Long Clear View to make the
audience feel/think/ a certain emotion or thought.
The first major language technique that Winton used throughout the short stories Damaged Goods and
Long Clear View is colloquial language. In the short story Damaged Goods Winton uses Australian
colloquial language such as he went to parties and got smashed on Brandovino and blackberry nip ...

The inclusive language that has been used by Winton in these two texts makes the reader feel closer to
the story and feel as if they are part of the story. The frequent use of words like you or your shows that
inclusive language is used as a language technique throughout the short stories and help enhance the
central theme by making the audience feel included and make the texts more relatable to the audience.
The last major language technique used by Winton in the short stories Damaged Goods and Long
Clear View is intertextuality. Throughout both of the two short stories there are characters such as Vic
Lang and Strawberry Alison that have been mentioned, in both stories Damaged Goods and Long
Clear View, Vic Lang is the main character. This is known due to the reference in Damaged goods, it
is assumed that the same Vic is the main character of this story too, this is because on pg 55 when the
main character is first referred to as Vic Vic refuses to visit the home town he grew up in . In Long
Clear View, Remember, Vic you re responsible (pg 203), this is the first indication that the reader gets
that both main characters are the same Vic. On pg 58 of Damaged Goods, the narrator states that her

Rites of Passage
Rites of passage, the journeys that dot the edges of our ultimate quest through life. They are the
universal changes that can be as insignificant as a first kiss but with everlasting effects on our
perspective on life. Stand By Me is a movie that was first released in 1986 from the studios of
Director Robert Reiner. It details the story of four pre adolescent teens, Gordie, Chris, Teddy and Vern
who embark upon a quest to find the dead body of Ray Brower, a kid also around their age that had

These are just some examples of how the characters change throughout the movie, however there are
specific scenes where this takes place quite obviously.
The first scene that demonstrates these things really well is the scene where Chris finally comes out of
his tough guy shell and pours his heart out to Gordie. This scene is very important because it signifies
the real start of Chris and Gordie s brotherly relationship, the one that would effectively replace
Gordie s lost brother and allow him to move on. This is a major rite of passage because it signifies a
new beginning for the both of them, along with the fact that for Gordie this is the first time he s
stepped up to fulfill the leadership qualities that he possesses but tends to refrain from using for fear of
being brought down by others. Both the filmic codes and narrative conventions are heavily apparent in
this scene. Just some symbolism can be seen through aspects in the scene such as Gordie s arm over
Chris, the visible sign of their brotherly relationship. This combined with the fact that throughout the
scene both Chris and Gordie are level in their height and position and screen, showing that after
breaking out of his tough guy shell Chris is really on the same level as Gordie. The main audio code
here was the crackling of the fire in the background that signifies the warmth and love in the newly
forming relationship. Combined again with technical medium shots of Gordie and Chris

too afraid to talk and interact with people. I feel anxious when around with new people, for fear of
making a mistake and looking stupid. I also never thought, I was so dependent on my two best friends.
It s like all my life, I never thought I was so clingy and I depend on what others to say and never make

Inter Country Adoption Is Becoming More Prevalent Among...
Inter country adoption is becoming more prevalent amongst American citizens. The process of
adopting a child from another country can be tedious, but the very particular precautionary measures
and steps are set in place to ensure not only that the child s best interest are at the center of the
adoption but to also ensure that the adoption is legitimate in both the country of origin and in America.
The process of adopting from countries that have ratified The Hague and non Hague countries are
different and will be outlined below.
The Hague was ratified in 2007 in the United States and outlines the procedure for inter country
adoption for citizens of countries that have adopted it. Before an adoption can take place, it must be
established that the child is adoptable, meaning that the proper authorities have made efforts in pursuit
for the child to be adopted within the country and that the child does not have a suitable family to care
for him. (Article 4) After the child is deemed adoptable, with the child s best interest always at the
forefront, one needs to attain consent in writing from the birth mother and the proper authorities, it is
forbidden for such consent to be induced by payment of any sort. (Article 4) Also, after weighing the
factors of the child s age and maturity, the child needs to be counseled, his wishes and opinions need
to be considered, and only after he has freely consented without any form of bribe, then the process
can continue. (Article 4)

Early American Values
Early American values shaped the United States and have set ground rules for how Americans should

Analysis Of The Poem An Unplugged Proposal
Anjali Devakumar Mrs. Martin AP English 12 November 14, 2014 An Unplugged Proposal Molly
Wood was a wonderful, happy girl who loved climbing trees and playing tennis as a child. But
everything changed when she received her first iPhone at the age of thirteen. Now, Molly, a shadow of
her former cheerful self, stays confined to her room in an almost vegetative state, as her brain is only
able to comprehend texting and her speech is limited to 140 characters or less (bathos). Molly s
condition has escalated to the point where she must be dragged from her room to be driven to school.
Molly is a victim of technology; instead of being able to play freely outside like her six year old
brother and enjoy life, she lays trapped in a virtual world of social media with no escape (pathos).
Oliver and Angelica Wood, Molly s parents, are deeply saddened by what their daughter has become.
She s lost all basic functions. All she ever does is swipe her thumb across her screen and roll her eyes
when I speak to her! Angelica says tearfully. We just need to have hope that the real Molly is still in
there somewhere, Oliver says, embracing his sobbing wife. Slowly, mobile devices and other forms of
technology seem to be destroying basic human interaction, disconnecting people from the outside
world. Technology is dominating society, and now it is imperative to find a solution to end our
addiction before it completely destroys our lives. Therefore, for our world to progress, it is necessary

Slow To Remove Stigma Frank Haynie
Haynie believes the cause of this distorted reporting is due to three main problems: money, The
Bedford Guide for College Writers, 10th edition, includes the article: As Attitudes Shift on PTSD,
Media Slow to Remove Stigma, by Mike Haynie. Haynie, a U.S. Air Force veteran, is also the founder
and executive director of the Institute for Veterans and Military Families, at Syracuse University
(546). In the article, Haynie theorizes some in the media continue to perpetuate a stigma linking
military service to mental illness and violence (547). He reiterates President Bill Clinton s imperative
that Mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of. In Haynie s view, the inevitable financially driven
media outlets are the main cause of the continued stigma casting military veterans as criminally
unstable. He views some outlets reporting as being biased toward paper selling. Haynie points out, this

The Rise Of The Chinese Economy
Throughout the world, there are many nations and regions that have undergone immense changes to
reach their modern positions in the international economy. One such location is China, which
experienced a major shift from a society revolved around independent sustenance in the agricultural
industry into a society revolved around socialism, direct funding for the Chinese government through
the Chinese people, and the mass production of goods with high demand in the global market by co
operatives. Of course, the changes in the workings of the Chinese economy developed from the
changes in the politics of China. On the 1st of October 1949, The People s Republic of China was
founded in Beijing. The founding of the party both marked the end of what is today considered by
historians the most profound revolutionary upheaval in modern history, in which the Guomindang
Party rose to power in China, issued many different currencies, and was unable to control inflation,
food shortages, and exponentially occurring price fixations; as well as the beginning of the tides of
socialism in China in the 20th century, which caused the contemporary Chinese economic
transformation. The Chinese economic transition from a centrally planned economy and agrarian
society to a market economy and unified, socialist society was ultimately caused by the three Five
Year Plans adopted by the growing Chinese Communist Party, which were stable and beneficial
outlines for the Chinese regime because they developed

However, that should not be applicable for these corporations to neglect the recycling process.
Pollution is increasing and coffee shops are held accountable for that by selling those cups. Other
stakeholders such as NGOs feel that these shops are obligated to provide solutions and be more
regulated. NGOs are very important stakeholders because they can put pressure on governments to
change policies resulting in more difficult business regulations. So, it is better for them to regulate
their paper cup recycling themselves than for the government doing it for them. Finally, addressing
social problems can become financial opportunities such as charging an additional fee for every paper
cup purchased to cover up the extra cost of recycling.
Ultimately, the recycling of paper cups should be more regulated and that is due to the CSR that each
organization should have. By doing so, the pollution would decrease and other stakeholders will be
satisfied.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Data Collection In Research
When carrying out research it is possible that more than one data collection method may be used in
carrying out the research in order to obtain relevant and reliable conclusions and this is the approach
that was used by the researcher and the research gurus call this triangulation. The data collected on the
project is thus a blend of primary and secondary data. According to Blaxter et al. (2001) primary data
is original data that is collected at source, such as, survey data or experimental data whereas secondary
data is existing data set that presents interpretations, conclusions or knowledge additional to, or
different from that presented in the original data source. In this section we look at the detailed
procedures which were used by the researcher to gather the data. Primary data Thorndike, (1997)

The main source of secondary data used for this research project will be documentary data. This will

the use of documentary evidence when carrying out a research. One of the advantages according to
Blaxter et al (2001) is that documentary data can be obtained very cheaply. Blaxter et al (2001) further
argued that if such data were collected originally then it would be time consuming and expensive for
the researcher. Moreover, Cresswell (2003) contended that another advantage with documentary data
is that the researcher can access the information at a time convenient to them. On the same note, Bell
(1999) argued that the analysis of documentary data is used to supplement information obtained from
other methods (such as interviews and questionnaires) and this therefore strengthens the credibility of

The British Voting System, Undemocratic
This essay will be dealing with the question how the British voting system tends to be undemocratic in
comparison with two other European voting systems the French and German. The United Kingdom
counts five distinct types of elections: UK general elections, elections to national/regional parliaments
and assemblies, elections to the European Parliament, local elections and mayoral elections.
(wikipedia, 2008).According to the facts and in comparison with the French and German systems, the
British voting system might be undemocratic. Held generally each four years ( in the UK, Ireland,
Norway) or five years( in France), elections suppose a certain democracy. But what is a democracy?

Whoever comes in the government reflects the majority s desire. In this point, this system tends to be
more democratic than the First Past the Post system in the UK and the voters are encouraged to vote
with their hearts in the first round and then vote with their heads . ( European Politics, pp 134) There
is in this system more place and chance for big and small parties.
The Federal Republic of Germany, a federal parliamentary republic of sixteen states uses a mixed
system. In this system, voters are given two votes. One to vote for a candidate in their local
constituency or district; the other to vote for a list in a multimember constituency. (European Politics,
pp 135). The benefit or advantage of this system is that it ensures, whatever the results of the
constituency, the overall result of the election in a more or less proportionally way. For this reason this
list, the list in a multimember constituency, is a compensatory one. As has been demonstrated, voters
in Germany even get 2 votes, which makes this system more democratic than any other. The voters
really have the feeling that their voices are important, that they can decide who they want in the
government and there is no feeling of wasted voices. Besides, a chance is also given to all parties and
the fight for power is not only in the hands of a few groups. In this option, the mixed system seems
also more democratic than the British one.
Initially, one of the most widely used system, the

The correlation between the bold flavor with low calories and the manliness ensued is one of

Literature Review Of Stirling Engine
Literature Review Stirling engines were invented in the early 1800 s and since then there have been
major changes to the design to adjust to certain criteria. In the early stages of the engine the ability to
create highly efficient engines became limited due to technology and materials available. All the
sources sampled agree on what a Stirling engine was and what characteristics make them different. A
Stirling engine is a heat engine that has the heating and cooling of the gas which then applies pressure
on the piston heads thus moving both the gases and the pistons creating energy (American Stirling
Company, n.d). Other articles on Stirling engines agree, saying Stirling engines are machines that
operate in a closed regenerative thermodynamic cycle. The use of Stirling engines is based off the
Stirling engine cycle of power (Asnaghi, Ladjevardi, Izadkhast, Kashani, 2012). Other respected
articles agree with this basic definition of the engine saying that applying an external heat source to a
closed cylinder where the cyclical expansion and compression of air inside the cylinder drives the
pistons up and down (Helman, 2015) and because the engine is a closed system the expansion of gases
cause the pistons to move (Saab, 2015). An introduction to a 2010 study points out that there are more
concepts to the Stirling engine then just mechanics saying, The Stirling engine is based on the
materials, development, and design of the engine to determine how well it works

Quiet American Imperialism
Everyone is born under different circumstances, different experiences, and develop different positions.
Although gender allows our existence to flourish, females were and are still discriminated against.
Similar to those people who experienced the dismantle of their culture and people, imperialism seeks
people who are different. They observe the differences of language, culture, and even physical
appearances. In Heart of Darkness and The Quiet American, the treatment of women and victims of
imperialism are almost indistinguishable. Joseph Conrad and Graham Greene were both aware of the
constraints women in the 19th and 20th century faced for simply being rational and intelligent.

The parallelism between female suppression and the conquest of the natives are functioning
simultaneously in Conrad s novel. Women are too, those being victimized. They are similar to the
natives who were objectified and perceived to be uncivilized and ultimately unable to handle
responsibility. They are lied to, promised things, and bound by a traditional institution rather than
love. Conrad, therefore acknowledges this misconstruction of gender equality, by becoming aware of
its biasness.
It is also argued that Conrad had racist tendencies in Heart of Darkness because he refrains from
giving a voice to the Africans. He does this as well with women, refraining from much dialogue within
the text several times. But does this truly make him a racist or a sexist, for that matter? Readers look at
these examples as a cut and clear indication that Conrad had no regard for these groups of people,
without a full examination of his intentions. I believe the evolution of Marlow as a character
represents Conrad s true intention. Marlow right off the start of the novel can be seen as a sexist,
maybe because of the lack of a female character in his life. He feels embarrassed that he has to go to
his aunt for a job, but he does acknowledge her pull to get him an opportunity to travel the Congo. I
believe Conrad was being satirical when he presented this view of Marlow on women. Marlow
describes women as living, in a world of their own, and there has never been anything like

With the foregoing, Aguirre could not solely base the accusation by mere suppositions and presumptions in order to incriminate Takad. II. CREDIBILITY OF THE EYEWITNESSES First. Zenny, on her testimony, stated that she knew of the incident when Parlade told her about it at 7:00 in the morning while Parlade alledged that after he ran to chase the tricycle which was then driven by the carnapper and he failed to catch up with it, he and Zenny looked for the tricycle the whole night. Urban Geography And The Human Agency With the sources provided it is evident how influential the social structure is on urban geography and the human agency in the continuum of the socio spatial dialect. The talk by Wilkinson outlines social problems that correlate to inequality that is widening throughout developed countries. The Figures provide statistics of the inequality within Canada and the patterns that are not temporary but also not inevitable as discussed in the article about the Three Cities of Toronto. The article analyses the social and geographic transformation that has occurred in Toronto through the past 35 years by looking at census tracts and illustrating the disparities that are occurring and will continue to without a change of policy. Together, the sources ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sweden who has a fairly equal society had low results for social problems. Wilkinson also made a point to state that national income and economic growth had no correlation to life expectancy in the developed world anymore. Wilkinson goes on to state that the bigger the income gaps within societies lead to a deteriation of these social problems within societies. The difference when comparing societies and looking within societies was income only made a difference when looking within societies. This is a result of an idiographic approach where we look at the relative income within a specific society to understand the social status patterns that s occurring. It links to the idea talked about in class about scale and comparing information from the blockface data versus the census tract. The blockface data has extreme detail (or spatial variation) and the census tract does not have as much information (reduces variability). In this analogy, societies would be the blockface data and different countries would be the census tract. Turning our attention specifically on Canada, we can examine Figure A and see the inequality that has been rising to an unprecedented high of income inequality. Although we are see that through taxation this inequality has been reduced, the problem still remains significant as we can see the household inequality is drastically rising in all the major metropolitans in Canada especially from 2000 2005. • 6. How To Write A Reflective Essay On Report Card For some students a report card is an accurate reflection of their abilities, aspirations, and future work habits. Many friends of mine have flawless, or near flawless, report cards. Straight A s and weighted GPA s well over 4.0 grace their every progress report, and I am certain they will continue this streak of academic excellence well into the future. For others, C s, D s and fail s are a normal occurrence, and much like the straight A students, I have no doubt that they will continue down this path. But for some students, like myself, a report card is not an accurate picture of academic ability. I am not afraid to admit to friends, family, or schools I intend to apply to that my grades aren t good. I haven t had a GPA anywhere near ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To this day I still enjoy programming, and what some see as homework, I see as a good way to spend a Saturday. On the other hand, I struggle to find value in classes such as Literature or History. While there are aspects of both subjects that I enjoy, I don t believe they have any place in a required curriculum for a high school student who knows what he wants to do. This admittedly pessimistic view of many of my classes has led to bad work habits, and subsequently to bad grades, yet my drive in classes that do interest me, and that I know I will one day find value in, has produced B s or even A s for the first time in years. For instance, once I recognized the potential of math in computer programming, even including concepts I never thought I d use(such as imaginary numbers), my grades in my math classes skyrocketed. I brought a C in mathematical analysis up to a B, and this year in AP Calculus I ve started the year well with an A in the first semester. Yet another example of my success in subject areas I care about is my time spent in the Academic Decathlon program. I had heard about this team and their many successes even before entering high school, but when my grades started to slip I figured I had no chance at joining. However, the Academic Decathlon program accepts students with a variety of GPA s who make up three different teams accordingly. I found my niche on the Varsity, or C Team, and right from ... • 7. Magical Realism In Gabriel Garcia Marquez Kids taken from mothers, people stripped of their cultures, and families separated. Latin American people have gone through burdens unimaginable to other, more developed, countries around the world. Latin America has a very distinct culture, but that culture was stripped from the people and replaced with another culture. Latin America s diverse culture shows in its use of magical realism and their intriguing ways of telling history. Magical realism is used to represent the mistreated figures and atrocious leaders in their literature. One of these writers is Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Born in Aracataca, Colombia this latino writer used magical realism in his stories to represent the conditions in Latin America. He uses characters in his stories to represent Latin America and how the countries people are treated. Gabriel originally went to school to be a lawyer, but later gave that up to be a journalist. His short stories and inspirational speeches were awarded the Nobel Prize of Literature and the International Literature Award. Although Latin America was beaten down, they still persevered. They gained their independence and started to become the great country they once were. Like Gabriel said in his speech, The Solitude of Latin America, Nevertheless, in the face of oppression, pillage, and abandonment, our reply is life. This tells us that Latin America, in the face of defeat, rises and comes back twice as strong. The constant oppression of their people and the suffering ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Environmental Effects Of Mercury Pollution 1 1. Introduction Mercury pollution is omnipresent in marine ecosystems, and is present in water column, as well in benthic sediment. Mercury dispersal is a natural process, where mercury compounds are released from Earths crust by volcano activity or by weathering the rocks (Ebinghaus et al, 1999). However, the concentration of mercury in the environment, both in air and water ecosystems, has risen dramatically after 1950 when intensified industrialisation occurred after World War II. This hazardous element, after being released from industrial plants, diffuses in rivers and eventually pollutes the oceans (EPA, Unites States Environmental Protection Agency, 2017). Once in the water, mercury ends to be bioaccumulated in tissue of marine organisms, where the intoxication from mercury in small or large doses provokes severe damages, particularly affecting central nervous system and induce chromosomal aberrations (Porto et al, 2005; Zahir et al, 2005). This prolonged exposure to mercury is more evident in animals placed higher in food chains, due to mercury biomagnification effect (Wyn,et al, 2009; Al Reasi et al, 2007). Humans are especially sensitive to mercury toxic effects, being on the top of food webs (Barbaros et al, 2003; Lavoie et al, 2013). A wide range of industries use mercury or produce mercury waste during the manufacturing processes, however the major polluter are industry branches related to the production of gold (mining activities), fossils combustion, but ... • 9. The Symbolic Meaning of the Radio in The Enormous Radio... The Symbolic Meaning of the Radio in The Enormous Radio Many authors use the personification of inanimate objects to symbolize the feelings and expressions of their characters. One example of this is in John Cheever s short story, The Enormous Radio. Although critics argue that the characteristics of the radio are the opposite of those of Jim and Irene Westcott, the radio actually reflects the couple s life. Even though in the beginning of the story the Westcotts old radio is outdated and constantly malfunctioning, it has the same innocence and simplicity as the couple. The radio, being an old instrument (817), and the couple, resembling statistical reports in college alumni bulletins (817), are both average and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Westcotts and the new radio are physically similar to each other. Jim and Irene appear to all who know them as the perfect couple with the American dream lifestyle, but beneath the smooth exterior of their lives lurk serious problems (O Hara 35). This is similar to the radio which appeared normal on the outside, but on the inside contained violent forces (818). Another problem the Westcotts and the radio share is increased chaos. The more the couple listens to the radio the more the instrument develops a mistaken sensitivity to discord (818). This coincides with the couple s increased fighting and with their memories of their tarnished past. The most noticeable example of the similarities is not between the couple and the radio, but between Irene and the radio. Irene felt like the new radio stood among her intimate possessions like an aggressive intruder (817); it ironic Irene should feel that way since she too has become an aggressive intruder in the lives of her friends and neighbors. In the third portion of the story the radio is repaired, and the couple s relationship also seems to return to its normal state. For example, all the story s altercations become fixed, although none are actually solved. Jim couldn t get rid of the noises, so he turned the radio off (818) and eventually had it repaired. This is the same as the couple s inability to change their problems, so instead they just ignore them. After the radio is repaired the household ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Analysis Of The Centntaur By May Swenson In May Swenson s poem The Centaur, she talks about a little girl that uses her enormous mind to imagine herself transforming into a horse. The girl is in a whole new world of her imagination as she rides through the hills of her backyard. Swenson allows readers to take part in the transformation from human to horse that the adolescent girl described undergoes, thus emphasizing the importance of childhood and imagination on the woman s identity and how strong and intelligent they could be. In the poem, May uses the Greek mythological creature, the Centaur, as a symbol of the girl pretending to ride the horse and then became the horse himself. A centaur is a half man half horse creature. Centaurs are strong creatures they stand for being strong, brave, and they have a hard identity which reflects the girl s identity of having all these characteristics. Swenson makes it seem as though the girl herself is a Centaur. Words and phrases like: my hair flopped to the side like the mane of a horse (line 29 to 30), I shied and skittered and reared (line 33), I was the horse and the rider (line 38), spanked my own behind (line 40 ), and my two hoofs beat a gallop along the bank (line 41 to 42 ) . All these symbolize that the girl is imagining being a horse and a human at the same time like a centaur. At the end when her mother said: why is your mouth all green ? (line 71 ) it shows how the girl has a very high level of imagination that while she was imagining to be a horse she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the moving young adult novel, The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part Time Indian, The audience is instantly engaged from the first chapter alone. The author, Sherman Alexie, writes loosely about his own life on the Spokane Reservation and all the issues Native Americans face on a daily basis. The novel is created in such a way that it seems it is a diary, belonging to a teenage boy named Arnold Junior Spirit. This means that it includes typical adolescent humour, problems and more. Alexie also uses cartoons to better enhance and portray the meaning of the novel. To begin with, Alexie writes as if he himself is a teenage boy, putting all his thoughts ... The cartoons are something that he and Rowdy used to laugh at with each other, but when Junior and Rowdy weren t friends, Junior would sometimes go to Rowdy s house and give him a new cartoon, just to make sure that Rowdy still cared. What Is My Greatest Accomplishments From the first taste of accomplishment we go on to set new goals, and the goals we set aren t only for the accomplishments and accolades that come with them but most importantly for self contention to be the best we can be, to be great. Well my first taste of accomplishment came from an orange sphere and a hoop as a child. On my 5th birthday, my old man brought home a basketball hoop, not knowing what it was, I was intrigued at first sight. Looking back, as an avid sports lover now, I can tell you that whether it had been a basketball, soccer ball, baseball, lacrosse ball, football, a punching bag, a pool, or a track, the first taste of accomplishment comes from the first pass, shot, goal, touchdown, hit, run, or leap, and from there you ... Norristown was on a role scoring 10 unanswered points to put themselves back in the game. Our coach called a time out with one minute left. The plan was to get me the ball, for an open shot, coach drew up the play and we tried to carry it out. Our plan didn t fall through and Norristown got the defensive rebound, going down the court to score 2 points on a toughly contested mid range shot. It was our ball with 35 seconds on the clock. We tried to chew the clock and get a good shot off, and we did just that. I scored the record breaking basket with 7 seconds left. Norristown had the ball down two with very little time on the clock. We knew we just needed one stop. One stop and we d become state champions forever. Norristown inbounded the ball and drove down court, we played them tight trying not to give up a three pointer. No points we we re champions, 2pts would tie it and take us to overtime, 3points... well, 3pts would end our season, and we d come up short on being the best. Only two seconds to go, the ball went up, off a deep three pointer. The hearts under every jersey, shirt and tie, and striped polo stopped for those two seconds. • 15. Humanitarian Intervention Essay The key objections to humanitarian intervention include the conflict of interests with the self interested state and sovereignty, the difficulty of internal legitimacy, the problematical Responsibility to Protect (R2P) doctrine, and the debate over legality of intervention. The issue of morality stands as an overarching issue which touches on all of these. Overall, one finds that despite a moral imperative to intervene, humanitarian intervention should not occur but is perhaps the lesser of a series of evils. In realist theory, states are self interested in that their own relative gains are favoured over absolute gains (i.e. gains for the entire society of states). This raises questions of motive and the potential for abuse in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it can be argued that the motives behind intervention are not as important as the interventions themselves the moral function of humanitarian intervention is to save lives and this can be achieved with or without altruistic motives. To this a possible reply is that seemingly unjust intervention may aggravate the receiving state, more so perhaps in military interventions than economic, political or social. A threatened state is arguably more likely to initiate a backlash. However, such an argument cannot be made against a UN sanctioned intervention, where it can be agreed that the intervention is legitimate and in the interests of the global community. The issue of marginalising state sovereignty completely ignores the fact that sovereignty is granted by the international community , . The arguments that states such as China may put forward, that state sovereignty is absolute and deserving of unadulterated respect, rests on the idea that states grant themselves sovereignty, which upon reflection, one finds to be untrue. State sovereignty can only be realised if it is acknowledged by the global society of states. To this a realist might argue that theoretical sovereignty is separate from actual sovereignty, and that states will defend their sovereignty regardless of its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Toad Revisited Larkin This poem is Larkin s monologue about work. Larking walks through a park and even though he finds it an appealing and pleasurable sight, he would rather like to keep himself busy with work. He does not want to be lazy like the people at the park but would rather like to perform his duties meticulously so that when he dies he can have the satisfaction of having worked so hard. Toad Revisited is Larkin s mental debate in which he weighs the advantages and disadvantages of work and of leisure; and comes to the definite conclusion that work is preferable to sloth or to leisure unlike the people around him. Toad work refers to the easy work that people do that does not need much intelligence or skills. Their jobs are easy which therefore, in Larkin s view, makes them lazy. He is the opposite of these people as he is intelligent and educated which is why he needs a break and walks through the park unlike the rest of them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He has accepted the fact that working for him is preferable to not working, and he actually asks the toad (work) to help him through the rest of his life as he walks down Cemetery road, which is a place of death. Larkin means he is going to work at his current job that he might not necessarily like until he dies, which gives us a sense that he is at ease with doing so he sees that the alternative is far worse (the alternative being the people at the park). In keeping with the spirit of that demographic, Zara moves quickly. Like many apparel retailers, it has two seasons fall/winter and spring/summer but selections change frequently within those periods. Items spend no more than two weeks on the shelf before making way for new merchandise, and stores are replenished twice a week. With annual growth of around 20 percent in both sales and number of stores, Zara was finding that strategy increasingly difficult to execute. These are just some examples of how the characters change throughout the movie, however there are specific scenes where this takes place quite obviously. The first scene that demonstrates these things really well is the scene where Chris finally comes out of his tough guy shell and pours his heart out to Gordie. This scene is very important because it signifies the real start of Chris and Gordie s brotherly relationship, the one that would effectively replace Gordie s lost brother and allow him to move on. This is a major rite of passage because it signifies a new beginning for the both of them, along with the fact that for Gordie this is the first time he s stepped up to fulfill the leadership qualities that he possesses but tends to refrain from using for fear of being brought down by others. Both the filmic codes and narrative conventions are heavily apparent in this scene. Just some symbolism can be seen through aspects in the scene such as Gordie s arm over Chris, the visible sign of their brotherly relationship. This combined with the fact that throughout the scene both Chris and Gordie are level in their height and position and screen, showing that after breaking out of his tough guy shell Chris is really on the same level as Gordie. The Federal Republic of Germany, a federal parliamentary republic of sixteen states uses a mixed system. In this system, voters are given two votes. Literature Review Of Stirling Engine Literature Review Stirling engines were invented in the early 1800 s and since then there have been major changes to the design to adjust to certain criteria. In the early stages of the engine the ability to create highly efficient engines became limited due to technology and materials available. All the sources sampled agree on what a Stirling engine was and what characteristics make them different. A Stirling engine is a heat engine that has the heating and cooling of the gas which then applies pressure on the piston heads thus moving both the gases and the pistons creating energy (American Stirling Company, n.d). Other articles on Stirling engines agree, saying Stirling engines are machines that operate in a closed regenerative thermodynamic cycle. The use of Stirling engines is based off the Stirling engine cycle of power (Asnaghi, Ladjevardi, Izadkhast, Kashani, 2012). Other respected articles agree with this basic definition of the engine saying that applying an external heat source to a closed cylinder where the cyclical expansion and compression of air inside the cylinder drives the pistons up and down (Helman, 2015) and because the engine is a closed system the expansion of gases cause the pistons to move (Saab, 2015). An introduction to a 2010 study points out that there are more concepts to the Stirling engine then just mechanics saying, The Stirling engine is based on the materials, development, and design of the engine to determine how well it works ... • 40. Quiet American Imperialism Everyone is born under different circumstances, different experiences, and develop different positions. Although gender allows our existence to flourish, females were and are still discriminated against. Similar to those people who experienced the dismantle of their culture and people, imperialism seeks people who are different. They observe the differences of language, culture, and even physical appearances. In Heart of Darkness and The Quiet American, the treatment of women and victims of imperialism are almost indistinguishable. Joseph Conrad and Graham Greene were both aware of the constraints women in the 19th and 20th century faced for simply being rational and intelligent. Women were objectified and a straightjacket of propriety, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The parallelism between female suppression and the conquest of the natives are functioning simultaneously in Conrad s novel. Women are too, those being victimized. They are similar to the natives who were objectified and perceived to be uncivilized and ultimately unable to handle responsibility. They are lied to, promised things, and bound by a traditional institution rather than love. Conrad, therefore acknowledges this misconstruction of gender equality, by becoming aware of its biasness. It is also argued that Conrad had racist tendencies in Heart of Darkness because he refrains from giving a voice to the Africans. He does this as well with women, refraining from much dialogue within the text several times. But does this truly make him a racist or a sexist, for that matter? Readers look at these examples as a cut and clear indication that Conrad had no regard for these groups of people, without a full examination of his intentions. I believe the evolution of Marlow as a character represents Conrad s true intention. Marlow right off the start of the novel can be seen as a sexist, maybe because of the lack of a female character in his life. He feels embarrassed that he has to go to his aunt for a job, but he does acknowledge her pull to get him an opportunity to travel the Congo. I believe Conrad was being satirical when he presented this view of Marlow on women. Marlow describes women as living, in a world of their own, and there has never been anything like ...
