College Accreditation Research Paper

Accreditation Research Project
April 25, 2011
Being accredited is how an institution is recognized as a university having a legitimate degree
program. The value of the degree you receive is based upon accreditation, college ranking, and the
perception of the institutions image in organizations and society. As my problem statement I would
like to find out what the value of accreditation is, what it takes to become accredited, maintain
accreditation, and why some degrees from accredited institutions are not recognized by other
institutions and business organizations. Some research objectives I would like to achieve would be to
find out if the loss of credits in the transfer from school to school is due to different ... Show more

According to an article written in the New York Times, and quoted in a higher education watchdog
website, scores of students are dropping out of the University of Phoenix, the largest chain of for
profit colleges in the country, fed up because their academic experiences bear no resemblance to the
promises that were made to them by duplicitous recruiters. Most of these students are leaving hugely
indebted. Contributing to the poor graduation rate, current and former students who studied at
University of Phoenix campuses or online complained of instructional shortcuts, unqualified
professors, and recruiting abuses (Burd, 1). There are some business organizations that do not
recognize them as a credible education system. For example, I worked for the insurance company
Geico, and they offered tuition reimbursement if you attend an accredited university. However
because of their unorthodox style of teaching, and not being a traditional four year university, they did
not recognize them as a legitimate university and would not reimburse any tuition.
All of the accrediting organizations are overseen by an organization called CHEA, the Council for
Higher Education Accreditation. CHEA ensures that all the regulations and standards are uniform
throughout the agencies, and based on their definition, all the organizations should

Case Study Of Allianz
International Orientation
The question of internationalization is crucial in an industry where size is critical. Ever since the
second part of the 20th century, insurance companies have been facing market pressures, increasing
costs reducing profit margins and an increasing amount of regulations. To face these changing market
dynamics, the industry has been consolidating, following a big fish eat the small fish logic.
Allianz is the perfect illustration of that model. The company is based in Germany but has extended its
roots all over Europe, like most of its European competitors. However, it appears slightly more
internationalized than its competitors: 44,3% of the firm s 2013 non life revenues come from outside
Europe compared to an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Allianz is pursuing opportunities in Central Eastern European countries where penetration of non life
insurance remains low. Still, the company s strategic objectives are focused on foreign growing
markets with untapped potential. Although fast growing economies like Asia and Latin America don t
account for the biggest part in revenue yet, they represent the main hope for groups like Allianz to
generate premiums. The growth in GDP and the low penetration rate of these countries is very
promising. There is a 3% of insurance penetration rate in China versus 8% in the United States. We
witness top growth in non life insurance in Asia. In a decade, China should have become the largest
market for non life insurance with a forecasted premium of over $360

William Shakespeare And Tolstoy s War And Peace
The historical fiction genre is more popular than ever, with masses of television programmes, motion
pictures and novels being written around the subject. This influx has brought a new reception to the
many time periods of history that had otherwise been forgotten and abandoned, and also to many that
are heavily documented but rarely looked upon. However, with the need for a fascinating story to sell
to the audiences some of the historical fact is being obscured in the process, thus causing a lack of
respect between authors and historians. In this essay, I will be exploring the relationship to literature
from both historians and authors, also examining their own beliefs on what defines a historical novel
and whether or not these authors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some pieces of literature even began to reflect in the modern day, with Miller s The Crucible making a
statement about the MccArthy Movement by using the historic witch trials of Salem. It is clear indeed
that historical fiction has attained a new sense of urgency. It is far from being seen as mere
entertainment, it is something more: a statement about our past and the way it influences our present,
an effort to unravel something about the past that we have not yet been able to see, or, even, an
opportunity to give us a different past and to grasp one s identity in a completely different way. In this
sense, historical fiction could be defined as escapism more than ever.
Assuming that historical fiction and history are both intended to tell a reader facts, then one could
argue that historical fiction is damaging to the world. However, when one changes the purpose of both
genres then the whole concept of historical fiction changes, According to Andrew M Greeley, the
purpose of history is to narrate events as accurately as one can. The purpose of historical fiction is to
enable a reader through the perspective of characters in the story to feel that he or she is present at the
events. In this case, it is only fair that a modification of the events is needed in order to reach that
goal. Many historians turn to write historical fiction in order

Being A Youth Mentor, Future Social Worker, And Concerned...
I choose to research representations of insecure attachments in children of incarcerated mothers. This
is an issue of both personal and societal important to me as a youth mentor, future social worker, and
concerned citizen. Since 2014, I have worked worked as a summer camp counselor of children aged
five to 13 in my hometown of New Kensington. The summer camp is organized by a non profit to
facilitate conflict resolution skills in children who are aggressive or anti social in school and other
settings. These children have multiple odds stacked against them: race (most are African American),
economic status, and unstable surrounding all contribute to their life experiences. I was taken aback
when I discovered how many of the campers had an incarcerated mother, father, or both. Along with
displaying aggressive behavior, most of the campers had difficulty bonding with their peers,
caregivers, and camp counselors. In the fields of psychology and social work, these are textbook signs
of insecure attachment. Much of my time as a camp counselor was spent working to foster acceptance
and affection in children who often don t receive any at home. Beyond anecdotal evidence, the role of
an absent mother in insecure attachments has been explored extensively by researchers. The research I
reviewed can be categorized as initial research on insecure attachments and their implications, and
more specific to the population I researched, insecure attachments in the children of incarcerated

Making Sense of White Working Class Educational Underachievement
Summary
The article Making sense of white working class underachievement by Diane Raey (2009) In the K. P.
Sveimsson (ed) Who Cares about the White Working Class? , Published by The Runnymeade Trust, is
important in indicating the weaknesses of the education system in the United Kingdom today.
According to this article, the White working class children do not perform well in academic
performance. This issue is the centre stage for a tug of war among the parents, teachers, the
government and the wealthy and middle class people within this jurisdiction. As it emerges, the issue
is more complex than it seems and includes historical perspectives, the perceptions towards the ...

Children from the white working families do not feature anywhere in class or in administration due
process. School administration and teachers want nothing to do with them. It is also important to note
that in most cases, the wealthy make policies of any govern sector including schools as Diane points
out.
For the white working families children to do well in education and perform well, they would have to
change. However, changing is somehow risky and even limited. After all, the students may change to
defy all odds but they do not have an effect on the policy making process which is for the middle class
and the wealthy. At the same time, it would be extremely challenging to go above the perceptions in
the society. The middle class and the wealthy also need to change. Change in this case is acceptance of
the white working class families as they are and work together to address the problem together.
However, this seems to be just an illusion basing on the perceptions the middle class and the wealthy
have towards the white working class group.
Strengths and Weaknesses
The article by Diane Raey (2009) titled Making sense of white working class underachievement
provides a lot of information on the problems leading to low academic performance of the white
working class children. The article has well articulated sections and topics, which describe the
problem well. In each section, the author provides all the necessary information

Who Is Mending Wall, And Stopping By The Woods On A Snowy...
In the poems by Robert frost, Mending Wall , The Road Not Taken , and Stopping by the Woods on a
Snowy Evening . As we take a broad view, we see a correlation of the theme from all three poems.
Consisting of either an outdoor setting or nature setting
2. In The Road Not Taken , we see the narrator, Robert Frost, comes upon a fork in the road while
walking through the yellow wood. He takes a while and thinks about both paths and decides that each
path is equally often taken and they both catch his attention. After choosing one of the roads, the
narrator tells himself that he will come back to this fork one day to try the other road. But, he realizes
that this is highly unlikely that he will ever will come back to this specific point ... Show more content

A few moments later, he decides to continue his trail ride.
5. This poem is somewhat, very complex. As we look at the first, second, and fourth line rhyme,
(Know, though, and snow.) while the third line rhymes with them as well, but in the sense of, (here,
queer, near, and year.) Iambic meter, four stanzas with them each having four stressed syllables. He
also repeats the final line twice, that he would like to stay more but must move on with life. The poem
also gives off a hint of him wanting to express adventure, and experiences of new things perhaps.
6. In his piece, Mending Wall , it seems to talk about two neighbors meeting to repair a wall that
divides their property. The narrator is skeptical, he does not seem to understand the need for a wall
when there is no livestock to be contained or anything of the sorts, only an apple and pine tree. He
does not believe that a wall should exist simply for it just to be there. He cannot help but come to
notice that many people out in the world, or their area does not seem to like the wall as much as hi=e
does not like the wall. Then, gaps begin to appear in the wall out of nowhere, boulders fall for no
reason. The neighbor, proclaims that the wall is crucial to maintaining their relationship, ultimately
stating, Good fences make good neighbors.
7. We can see from the way this poem is set up, the narrator has no real set or meter of this poem. It s
like a blank verse type deal. The narrator seems

Pain And Nociception Research Paper
Introduction
Pain is an adaptive mechanism which helps us learn to avoid dangers, it used to be believed that pain
was an emotional state caused by intense stimuli and for 300 years people operated on Descartes
single wire theory, that pain is a disturbance passed along nerve fibres to the brain, however, recent
research into pain has come up with a more complex theory of nociception and pain. Nociception is a
sensory process that provides the signals that trigger pain, whereas pain is the feeling of something
unpleasant or an unbearable sensation arising from a part of the body. it is possible to have pain
without nociception and nociception without pain, for example, back pain with no tissue damage is
pain with no nociception and finding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first stage of nociception is transduction, this is the perception of a noxious (damaging) stimulus,
which activates high threshold nociceptors through multiple mechanisms, such as, thermal (heat),
mechanical (ligaments being stretched) and chemical. With chemical activation, infection creates
inflammation around the wound to promote healing, some chemicals produced trigger nociceptors
(sometimes constantly) and some lower threshold of activation for other nociceptors (Basbaument et
al 2009) meaning a person can often feel more pain. The second stage of nociception is transmission;
this is where the information detected is sent to brain by specialised nerve pathways. Aδ fibres are fast
and specific, due to them being myelinated and unimodal (they respond to a specific type of pain per
fibre) and C fibres conduct slow sensation as they are unmyelinated and polymodal (responding to
multiple types of pain per fibre). The final stage of nociception is interpretation, this is where the brain
processes painful stimuli and decides if it should be acted on (if there is a danger). It is only at this
point that pain can be felt. Nociceptors do not send a pain signal but instead alert the brain to

Famine, Affluence, and Morality
Peter Singer
Jimmy carter once said, We know that a peaceful world cannot long exist, one third rich and two thirds
hungry. With the world now more interconnected than ever there might be a solution to world hunger
by distribution of wealth. Peter Singer, in his article titled, Famine, Affluence, and Morality, takes this
concept of unity that we have on a global scale and tries to tackle the issue of world hunger. Before we
dive into the article we will focus on utilitarianism to help us understand his perspective better.
Following, we will analyze Singer and his theory, by strongly arguing that famine should be given
moral worth. A stance is made that if you are aware of suffering that is going on elsewhere than it is
your responsibility to do something about it. He points out that it doesn t matter if anyone else is
helping nor does it matter the distance. Singer does make some good points, however, these do not
come without objections. Let s start by gaining an understanding of what utilitarianism means. The
definition given to us earlier in our textbook, Exploring Ethics, in the article, Strengths and
Weaknesses of Utilitarianism, it defines act utilities as an act that, is right if and only if it results in as
much good as any available alternative . This goes back to the tedious task of trying to analyze
countless number of alternatives and figure out which one brings about the most

Advertisements Exploiting Children
Are current practises of advertising to children exploitative? What restrictions should be placed on
advertising to children?
Up until recently, parents had been the intended target audience for advertising efforts aimed for
children of young age groups. However it is now the children who have become the main focus. The
growth in advertising channels reaching children and the privatisation of children s media use have
resulted in a dramatic increase in advertising directly intended for the eyes and ears of children
(Wilcox et al. 2004). It is estimated that advertisers spend more than $12 billion a year on the youth
market with more than 40,000 commercials each year. The current practises of advertising to young
children definitely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore research on the language of advertisements, while used to promote products, may be
purposefully constructed to confuse younger children at lower levels of cognitive development.
Simple correlation research in the US indicates that children typically aged 2 6 years who view more
television advertising request more products from their parents. This is known as pester power. It has
been found that parents are more likely to buy products when kids ask for them in the shop (nag
factor). As children age, they develop the cognitive capacity to contextualise and act critically on the
observations made, reducing the amount of requests for products (Australian Communications and
Media Authority, 2007). Children who are exposed to TV commercials for toys not only develop the
initial idea for the toy but repeatedly pester their parents to buy it. This is exploitation on the parents
behalf as it often causes parent child conflict when the parents deny their children the product (Wilcox
et al. 2004).
Another troubling issue relating to child advertising exploitation is in reference to food ads. Half of
the advertisements in the UK directed at children concern food. There are little ads emphasising
healthy eating and since the start of television advertising, the largest proportion of ads aimed at
children has always been unhealthy food products (Gunter, Oates amp; Blades 2005). The Australian

It was released in the year 1993, covering the period of the Chinese social upheavals between the

homosexuality in the most painful period of the traditional Chinese history, for the Chinese and
Western viewers (Lau 1995, 22). Despite that, China holds a strong homosexual stigma within the
twentieth century. According to Lau, this film was an opportunity to stimulate the inherent of the

the historical and political brutality in Chinese history (Zhang 1999, 101). The film attempts to
illustrate that the Chinese cultural connections and homosexuality cannot coexist. The main

Fourteenth Amendment, which says that no state shall deprive any person of liberty (pg. 7). The
Justices, who decided this case, interpreted the terms liberty and unborn in certain ways that favored
their ruling in Roe v. Wade. According to Forsythe, the Justices first interpreted liberty to include a

thing goes for the higher up courts. The federal court hearings went along without looking into any

Serial Killer Effects On American Culture Essay
According to Wikipedia, serial killing could be defined as the unlawful encounters of more than two
victims by the same person over a period of more than 30 days. It s a term that American society has
become quite familiar with. Basically a serial Killer s motivation for assassinating is typically based
on psychological satisfaction. Most people do not understand what causes a person wants to murder
people without having a reason behind it, besides gaining such pleasure. In the past thirty years, there
were numerous serial killers having all horrific and filthy ways to eliminate victims including raping,
poisoning, burning, drinking their blood etc. Based on the research, serial killers have had a negative

Candide Theme Essay
Themes of Philosophy and Religion in Voltaire s Candide
Philosophy and religion are two themes consistently satirized throughout Voltaire s Candide. Voltaire
tells the story of a naïve young man, Candide, hopelessly in love with the selfish and vain Cunégonde.
Candide s quest to reconnect with Cunégonde is accompanied by various misfortunes that counter his
personal optimistic belief that everything is for the best . Candide s encounters force him to reconsider
his optimistic views in order to gain a better understanding of the world surrounding him. Voltaire not
only uses the story of Candide to reveal the folly of continuously relying on vague philosophies rather
than acknowledge the tangible world, but exposes the hypocrisy of religion ... Show more content on

Religious men and leaders place emphasis on worldly ideas rather than genuine faith. In chapter three,
Candide comes across a protestant orator giving a speech on charity. When he asks the orator for
bread, he asks Candide if he believes the Pope is the antichrist. Candide tells the man he is unsure and
that his own answer does not belittle the fact he is hungry. The orator, despite having just finished
speaking on charity, turns Candide away for his beliefs. In this scene, Voltaire is ridiculing the extreme
Protestant sects of his time that were consumed by their hatred of Catholicism and Rome. Religion is
further satirized by the auto da fé, or act of faith, the learned men of Lisbon perform. The men blame
the sins of Candide and Pangloss for the devastating earthquake and punish them via hanging and
flogging. During the punishments, a sermon and religious concert are given. The beautiful religious
music accompanying the horrifying punishments emphasize the hypocrisy of the church s appearance
of holiness and the terrible events it oversees. Shortly after the punishment is carried out, another
earthquake occurs dislodging the rationalization of religion and exemplifying that the sins of man, in
this case Candide and Pangloss, are not the cause of disastrous

Functionalism In New York City
New York City can be described as an infrastructural flux, a back and forth conflict between its
modern day technological advancements and its architectural remnants. Its modern day infrastructure
a fusion that bridges together different eras of technological innovations plays an important role as a
physical record, or contextualization, of how New York City developed into the iconic metropolis it is
today. Kate Ascher s The Works: Anatomy of a City uses the idea of functionalism to explain the
complexity and intrinsic design of New York City s infrastructure, especially the function of streets as
the foundation for the rest of the city s buildings and infrastructure and protection for underground
facilities, such as New York City s plumbing and electrical systems, and the subway system. An
inconspicuous, but crucial infrastructure that supports everyday life in New York City is its simplistic,
grid pattern streets. Streets not only provide a clear separation for pedestrian traffic, or sidewalks, and
the rest of the city s traffic, or roads, but they also, through the Grid Plan, create a systemized map of
New York City. With each street and avenue numbered or named, the distinction between streets
allows traveling from one location to another to not only be convenient, but also highly systemized to
reduce confusion. For example, walking northward, or in the direction of increasing street number, on

Compromises Of 1850
The 1850s were a time of attempted compromise when compromise was no longer possible. The
Union was becoming divided through many events in the time leading into the Civil War. The North
and South had too many hostilities to account for. Socially, the North and the South could not stand
what the other would do or say with anything. Politically, the government was completely divided and
undecided. And economically, the South began to prosper as the North began to struggle. Thus, during
the 1850s, socially, politically, and economically there was not any compromise that could fix the
problems beginning to occur. In the 1850s, the North and South could not agree on anything and were
in constant disagreements. In 1850, Henry Clay created ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This made the south feel that slavery was okay since they took care of their slaves providing them

humanely correct. It would create a more difficult way to compromise since they all knew it was
wrong, but there were also rights of it. The literature made the compromise almost impossible to be
agreed upon since the reasons were so indecisive towards if slavery was correct or wrong. Another
issue also created stir in the country and that was Harper s Ferry. Harper s Ferry was when John
Brown captured an idea of arming and freeing slaves. He thought slaves would help, but he was
wrong. He fought with the army, captured, tried, and hung. The North condemned the violence but the
South did not believe them and saw Brown s raids as final proof the North s true intentions, to use
slave revolts to destroy the south. This showed that there would not be any more compromise to go
over since the South felt they knew exactly what was happening and wouldn t take anything for an
answer. The countries people were fighting and there was nothing to do. On the other hand, politicians
were in an uproar on what should be done and could not come to a solution for anything. The
government had become divided into two over the problems that were being started in the country.

Didrikson. Have you ever heard of her? Well, Babe didrikson was the world s greatest woman athlete
alive, playing golf, track and field, tennis, and basketball. Everyone wondered how she had so much
talent but no one ever understood.
Babe was born with the talents to be an amazing athlete. She was born on June 26th, 1911 in Port
Arthur, Texas. Her name wasn t actually Babe, it was Mildred. They began calling her Babe after she
hit 5 homeruns in her 1st game. She had 6 siblings, Dora, Esther Nancy, Ole jr, Louis, Lillie, and
Arthur. Babe was the 4th oldest out of them all. When she was a teenager she made the basketball
team her freshman year, but not her sophomore because she was too small. In her junior year, and still
no more than 5 feet tall, she made the varsity squad and became the star on the team. After one of her
basketball games, she was offered to play on a big time basketball team for the Employers Casualty
Insurance Company. She left school in February of 1929 to go play play basketball with them, and
returned in June to take her graduation exams ( Schoor 11 33).

Horrifying, simply horrifying. The reading was difficult. I must say I was not surprised by it though.

The people of Christmas Island live what I would call a modernized Victorian lifestyle in that woman

discrimination in the workplace and that causes difficulty for women when they are looking for work.
In this country, men complete all the work while women stay home, tending to the family and their

Marriage is still arranged in Christmas Island, although in the more urban areas of the island, love
matches are becoming more accepted. Virginity tests are still performed on brides, although the church

not a very common practice in this country.
It is uncommon on the island to make direct eye contact with another person, as well as it is for one to

Qualities Of Women In Beowulf
Supernatural Dangerous Women
Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight are both Anglo Saxon poems that share a male
dominated world with few female characters who have supernatural qualities. While the men in both
stories have noble qualities, the women are portrayed adversely; they are disregarded even though
they play an essential part to the story as either peace weavers or goaders to exert some sort of power.
In Beowulf there are three main women: Wealhtheow, Grendel s mother, and Hildeburh. These women
would amuse, bring contentment, or counteract their society s expectations of women in general.
While the common role of a woman in this story is depicted as feeble and is dismissively mentioned,
the Monster s mom (who is intentionally nameless to mirror the idea of a male dominated civilization)
fights like a male warrior, claiming her position as a goader; one who provokes, annoys, or stimulates

In contrast, the beginning of Like Water for Chocolate barely mentions men in leadership roles. Tita s
father, who remains unnamed throughout the novel, is dead. Because he is an unnamed dead man he
foreshadows the insignificance of the men in this novel. He is honestly better off dead than being
emasculated by Mama Elena, or even Tita later in the novel. The only other men mentioned in the first
chapter are Pedro and his father. Their encounter with Mama Elena was demeaning in itself. They
were denied Tita s hand in marriage and manipulated by Mama Elena into marrying Pedro and
Rosaura. Power in this novel is clearly, from the very beginning, in the hands of Mama Elena, a
woman. Will that power remain with her up until her death or does Tita, by staying in her place
cooking and nurturing, hold the power all along?
The structure of Like Water for Chocolate is permeated in feministic tendencies. The subtitle reads, A

Rapper s Charm Analysis

Eyewitness Identification, Criminal, And Criminal Law Essay
Imagine being at home with your family, when a knock comes at the door. You go to answer the door
and you are promptly arrested and taken away from your family. Why, because you have been
identified by someone as the perpetrator of a crime you have never heard of. Since you know that you
are innocent you don t worry, until you get to the sentencing. Once you are sentenced for 50 years
without parole, reality takes hold. You may think this cannot happen to you, but until we fix some
major flaws with law enforcement, prosecution deals, and an overloaded system: This could happen to
anyone. State prosecutors should not be able to convict anyone on eyewitness testimony only, without
any other physical or forensic evidence.
In eyewitness identification, in criminal law, evidence is received from a witness who has actually
seen an event and can so testify in court. (Law.com Legal Online Dictionary) While this could be an
important piece of the investigation, it can never take the place of DNA, or forensic evidence.
Unfortunately, that happens all too much, with our overburdened legal and criminal justice systems.
Eyewitness misidentification is widely recognized as the leading cause of wrongful conviction in the
U.S., accounting for more wrongful convictions than all other cause combined. (Boston College

The Effects Of Religion On Athletic Performance
Introduction
Many athletes are superstitious, or go through the same series of progressions or habits before
competition, because they believe it gives them luck or a better chance to perform optimally. Some of
these habits, may include praying. The act of praying is a way for an athlete to think they can attain an
edge, so they can compete better. During my time as an intern with Fordham Athletics, I was given
many opportunities to spend time with athletes from a variety of sports. My interactions with these
athletes, as well as my own experience as a college athlete who prayed before competitions, triggered
my interest in the relationship between prayer, and athletic performance. Does prayer before
competition affect the overall performance of an athlete? In this paper I will examine the effects of
religion and prayer on an athlete going into competition, as well as how it affects an athlete s overall
performance.
Literature Review
There has been scarce documentation covering the effects of religion on athletic performance. Up until
two decades ago, articles and research consisted largely of people saying an athletes religious beliefs
had no effect on their overall performance. We have all heard questions asking if it s necessary for a
player to thank God after hitting a homerun, or taking a knee before the game and praying. These
articles were mostly based on the opinion of the author, and not backed by empirical data. More recent
research on this topic, includes a

The Novel American Pastoral By Philip Roth
A novelist incorporates three crucial elements when writing a novel. The first element is the ability for
the author to draw from his or her own experiences. A novelist will paint an issue, usually political or
social, on the canvas of the pages in the book. He or she draw from experiences, what they remember
from the event taking place, locations, dates, and use a splash of fiction to blend the perfect color for
the novel. The author will mainly stick to the color coated facts to give the reader an authentic feel for
the story, but gracefully integrates fiction to in essence portray the spin to the truth they desire. A
novel is also driven by the desire to understand others, often in a sympathetic light. And last, but not

Roth uses Nathan to reincarnate the protagonist in the novel, Seymour
Swede Levov, as Swede s life is retold through the accounts of Zuckerman.
The story of Swede s life in the novel is translucent. It is only semi clear in nature as the narrator
gathers the preponderance of information second hand through the tales from characters that knew
Swede. Much of the minutiae of Swede s life were a reconstruction of the character through the
imagination of how it would have occurred in Zuckerman s head.
Nathan Zuckerman had an indescribable fascination for Swede from the very conception of the novel.
He was his hero, idol, and a hometown legend. Nathan grew up in the Jewish community with Swede
in Newark, New Jersey. Swede was someone to look up to for Nathan and many others. He was

river miles and has a watershed area of 8770 square miles. Uniquely, this river is the second
southernmost trout habitat in the United States. It is also the most heavily used surface water body in
Georgia. Seventy percent of metro Atlanta s drinking water comes from the Chattahoochee. In fact,
there are thirteen dams along the river. However, the Chattahoochee is also very polluted. Polluted
storm water is the primary cause of water quality problems. There are around 500 industrial sites not
complying with clean water laws along the river. As aforementioned, the Flint River and
Chattahoochee River both deposit into Lake Seminole. These two rivers leave the lake as one new

He Who Dares Wear Essay
It all started with detachment The S.A.S was officially founded during World War II by a man named
David Stirling. David created the so called L Detachment, Special Air Service brigade. He created this
brigade to help infiltrate North Africa. Despite the name having people infer that many people were in
this unit, there were little people in the unit. They had less paratroopers for a reason, and his reason
was to throw off the Axis and make them believe they had more men than they actually had. After
World War II the S.A.S was closed because Britain didn t feel a need for them anymore, but two years
after the war a new S.A.S regiment was created. The S.A.S deal with counter terrorism, covert
reconnaissance, direct action and hostages. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

3. They even have a game based on CTU s
Have you ever heard of Tom Clancy s Rainbow Six Siege? This game created by Ubisoft has been out
for almost three years and has a growing fan base. What does this have to do with CTU s you re most
likely thinking. Well this game uses attack/defense rounds in it and the players get to choose
characters from various CTU s for example you can play as the GSG9, the SAS, the Navy Seals and
the FBI SWAT. This is only a small list of playable characters, but Ubisoft went to the next level by
having each CTU have realistic weapons and gadgets that the CTU would use in real life. For example
one of the SAS characters Smoke uses toxin releasing smoke grenades, and something the SAS are
known for is their use of smokes and wearing gas masks to protect from their toxins.

Dolores Huerta Research Paper
Dolores Huerta
Imagine a world where the social and economic conditions for the farm workers and immigrants get
worst year by year, where the discrimination among these people growth and never decline. What
would happen to farm workers if Dolores Huerta shouldn t have made any action to change their
situation? This same question should be in the mind of many Americans who don t appreciate all the
effort and work that Huerta put in to change our nation. Persistent, powerful, brave, strong, simply a
heroin are the best words to describe Dolores Huerta, who is one of the most important women who
contributed to the creation of an equal and fair society in the United States because, she founded the
Agricultural Workers Association (AWA) and also she helped create the National United Farm
Workers Association (UFWA) with Cesar Chavez, she helped organize a nationwide boycott of
abusive grape growers, and she founded the Dolores Huerta Foundation.
Dolores primarily fought for the right treatment that farm workers ... Show more content on

In September 1965, she and Cesar Chavez led a national boycott of abusive grape growers. During
this boycott over five thousand Filipino American grape pickers protest against the low wages and the
long hours of work. The protest is best known as the Delano Grape Strike, and Huerta helped organize
a large scale boycott of California grapes. According to the book Dolores Huerta: Labor Leader, by
Debra A. Miller, ...Dolores Huerta basically sent representatives to big cities like Chicago and Boston
to make even larger the boycott. The work of these representatives was to convince people to buy
wine only if it had a union label... By 1970, grape growers agreed to accept contracts which unionized
most of the industry, adding 50,000 UFW members. It became the most ever represented by a union in
California agriculture. Even though it was difficult to accomplish, Huerta never back down and

  • 2. College Accreditation Research Paper Marketing Research Accreditation Research Project April 25, 2011 Being accredited is how an institution is recognized as a university having a legitimate degree program. The value of the degree you receive is based upon accreditation, college ranking, and the perception of the institutions image in organizations and society. As my problem statement I would like to find out what the value of accreditation is, what it takes to become accredited, maintain accreditation, and why some degrees from accredited institutions are not recognized by other institutions and business organizations. Some research objectives I would like to achieve would be to find out if the loss of credits in the transfer from school to school is due to different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to an article written in the New York Times, and quoted in a higher education watchdog website, scores of students are dropping out of the University of Phoenix, the largest chain of for profit colleges in the country, fed up because their academic experiences bear no resemblance to the promises that were made to them by duplicitous recruiters. Most of these students are leaving hugely indebted. Contributing to the poor graduation rate, current and former students who studied at University of Phoenix campuses or online complained of instructional shortcuts, unqualified professors, and recruiting abuses (Burd, 1). There are some business organizations that do not recognize them as a credible education system. For example, I worked for the insurance company Geico, and they offered tuition reimbursement if you attend an accredited university. However because of their unorthodox style of teaching, and not being a traditional four year university, they did not recognize them as a legitimate university and would not reimburse any tuition. All of the accrediting organizations are overseen by an organization called CHEA, the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. CHEA ensures that all the regulations and standards are uniform throughout the agencies, and based on their definition, all the organizations should ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ever since the second part of the 20th century, insurance companies have been facing market pressures, increasing costs reducing profit margins and an increasing amount of regulations. To face these changing market dynamics, the industry has been consolidating, following a big fish eat the small fish logic. Allianz is the perfect illustration of that model. The company is based in Germany but has extended its roots all over Europe, like most of its European competitors. However, it appears slightly more internationalized than its competitors: 44,3% of the firm s 2013 non life revenues come from outside Europe compared to an ... Still, the company s strategic objectives are focused on foreign growing markets with untapped potential. The growth in GDP and the low penetration rate of these countries is very promising. There is a 3% of insurance penetration rate in China versus 8% in the United States. • 5. William Shakespeare And Tolstoy s War And Peace The historical fiction genre is more popular than ever, with masses of television programmes, motion pictures and novels being written around the subject. This influx has brought a new reception to the many time periods of history that had otherwise been forgotten and abandoned, and also to many that are heavily documented but rarely looked upon. However, with the need for a fascinating story to sell to the audiences some of the historical fact is being obscured in the process, thus causing a lack of respect between authors and historians. In this essay, I will be exploring the relationship to literature from both historians and authors, also examining their own beliefs on what defines a historical novel and whether or not these authors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some pieces of literature even began to reflect in the modern day, with Miller s The Crucible making a statement about the MccArthy Movement by using the historic witch trials of Salem. It is clear indeed that historical fiction has attained a new sense of urgency. It is far from being seen as mere entertainment, it is something more: a statement about our past and the way it influences our present, an effort to unravel something about the past that we have not yet been able to see, or, even, an opportunity to give us a different past and to grasp one s identity in a completely different way. In this sense, historical fiction could be defined as escapism more than ever. Assuming that historical fiction and history are both intended to tell a reader facts, then one could argue that historical fiction is damaging to the world. However, when one changes the purpose of both genres then the whole concept of historical fiction changes, According to Andrew M Greeley, the purpose of history is to narrate events as accurately as one can. The purpose of historical fiction is to enable a reader through the perspective of characters in the story to feel that he or she is present at the events. In this case, it is only fair that a modification of the events is needed in order to reach that goal. Many historians turn to write historical fiction in order ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Being A Youth Mentor, Future Social Worker, And Concerned... I choose to research representations of insecure attachments in children of incarcerated mothers. This is an issue of both personal and societal important to me as a youth mentor, future social worker, and concerned citizen. Since 2014, I have worked worked as a summer camp counselor of children aged five to 13 in my hometown of New Kensington. The summer camp is organized by a non profit to facilitate conflict resolution skills in children who are aggressive or anti social in school and other settings. These children have multiple odds stacked against them: race (most are African American), economic status, and unstable surrounding all contribute to their life experiences. I was taken aback when I discovered how many of the campers had an incarcerated mother, father, or both. Along with displaying aggressive behavior, most of the campers had difficulty bonding with their peers, caregivers, and camp counselors. In the fields of psychology and social work, these are textbook signs of insecure attachment. Much of my time as a camp counselor was spent working to foster acceptance and affection in children who often don t receive any at home. Beyond anecdotal evidence, the role of an absent mother in insecure attachments has been explored extensively by researchers. The research I reviewed can be categorized as initial research on insecure attachments and their implications, and more specific to the population I researched, insecure attachments in the children of incarcerated ... Sveimsson (ed) Who Cares about the White Working Class? , Published by The Runnymeade Trust, is important in indicating the weaknesses of the education system in the United Kingdom today. According to this article, the White working class children do not perform well in academic performance. Children from the white working families do not feature anywhere in class or in administration due process. School administration and teachers want nothing to do with them. It is also important to note that in most cases, the wealthy make policies of any govern sector including schools as Diane points out. For the white working families children to do well in education and perform well, they would have to change. However, changing is somehow risky and even limited. After all, the students may change to defy all odds but they do not have an effect on the policy making process which is for the middle class and the wealthy. At the same time, it would be extremely challenging to go above the perceptions in the society. The middle class and the wealthy also need to change. Change in this case is acceptance of the white working class families as they are and work together to address the problem together. However, this seems to be just an illusion basing on the perceptions the middle class and the wealthy have towards the white working class group. Strengths and Weaknesses The article by Diane Raey (2009) titled Making sense of white working class underachievement provides a lot of information on the problems leading to low academic performance of the white working class children. The poem also gives off a hint of him wanting to express adventure, and experiences of new things perhaps. 6. The narrator is skeptical, he does not seem to understand the need for a wall when there is no livestock to be contained or anything of the sorts, only an apple and pine tree. He does not believe that a wall should exist simply for it just to be there. He cannot help but come to notice that many people out in the world, or their area does not seem to like the wall as much as hi=e does not like the wall. Then, gaps begin to appear in the wall out of nowhere, boulders fall for no reason. The neighbor, proclaims that the wall is crucial to maintaining their relationship, ultimately stating, Good fences make good neighbors. 7. • 13. Pain And Nociception Research Paper Introduction Pain is an adaptive mechanism which helps us learn to avoid dangers, it used to be believed that pain was an emotional state caused by intense stimuli and for 300 years people operated on Descartes single wire theory, that pain is a disturbance passed along nerve fibres to the brain, however, recent research into pain has come up with a more complex theory of nociception and pain. Nociception is a sensory process that provides the signals that trigger pain, whereas pain is the feeling of something unpleasant or an unbearable sensation arising from a part of the body. it is possible to have pain without nociception and nociception without pain, for example, back pain with no tissue damage is pain with no nociception and finding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first stage of nociception is transduction, this is the perception of a noxious (damaging) stimulus, which activates high threshold nociceptors through multiple mechanisms, such as, thermal (heat), mechanical (ligaments being stretched) and chemical. With chemical activation, infection creates inflammation around the wound to promote healing, some chemicals produced trigger nociceptors (sometimes constantly) and some lower threshold of activation for other nociceptors (Basbaument et al 2009) meaning a person can often feel more pain. The second stage of nociception is transmission; this is where the information detected is sent to brain by specialised nerve pathways. Aδ fibres are fast and specific, due to them being myelinated and unimodal (they respond to a specific type of pain per fibre) and C fibres conduct slow sensation as they are unmyelinated and polymodal (responding to multiple types of pain per fibre). The final stage of nociception is interpretation, this is where the brain processes painful stimuli and decides if it should be acted on (if there is a danger). It is only at this point that pain can be felt. Nociceptors do not send a pain signal but instead alert the brain to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With the world now more interconnected than ever there might be a solution to world hunger by distribution of wealth. Peter Singer, in his article titled, Famine, Affluence, and Morality, takes this concept of unity that we have on a global scale and tries to tackle the issue of world hunger. Before we dive into the article we will focus on utilitarianism to help us understand his perspective better. Following, we will analyze Singer and his theory, by strongly arguing that famine should be given moral worth. A stance is made that if you are aware of suffering that is going on elsewhere than it is your responsibility to do something about it. He points out that it doesn t matter if anyone else is helping nor does it matter the distance. Singer does make some good points, however, these do not come without objections. Let s start by gaining an understanding of what utilitarianism means. The definition given to us earlier in our textbook, Exploring Ethics, in the article, Strengths and Weaknesses of Utilitarianism, it defines act utilities as an act that, is right if and only if it results in as much good as any available alternative . Up until recently, parents had been the intended target audience for advertising efforts aimed for children of young age groups. However it is now the children who have become the main focus. The growth in advertising channels reaching children and the privatisation of children s media use have resulted in a dramatic increase in advertising directly intended for the eyes and ears of children (Wilcox et al. 2004). It is estimated that advertisers spend more than $12 billion a year on the youth market with more than 40,000 commercials each year. Furthermore research on the language of advertisements, while used to promote products, may be purposefully constructed to confuse younger children at lower levels of cognitive development. Simple correlation research in the US indicates that children typically aged 2 6 years who view more television advertising request more products from their parents. This is known as pester power. It has been found that parents are more likely to buy products when kids ask for them in the shop (nag factor). As children age, they develop the cognitive capacity to contextualise and act critically on the observations made, reducing the amount of requests for products (Australian Communications and Media Authority, 2007). Children who are exposed to TV commercials for toys not only develop the initial idea for the toy but repeatedly pester their parents to buy it. This is exploitation on the parents behalf as it often causes parent child conflict when the parents deny their children the product (Wilcox et al. 2004). Another troubling issue relating to child advertising exploitation is in reference to food ads. Half of the advertisements in the UK directed at children concern food. There are little ads emphasising healthy eating and since the start of television advertising, the largest proportion of ads aimed at children has always been unhealthy food products (Gunter, Oates amp; Blades 2005). Its modern day infrastructure a fusion that bridges together different eras of technological innovations plays an important role as a physical record, or contextualization, of how New York City developed into the iconic metropolis it is today. In this country, men complete all the work while women stay home, tending to the family and their home. Marriage is still arranged in Christmas Island, although in the more urban areas of the island, love matches are becoming more accepted. Virginity tests are still performed on brides, although the church frowns down upon them. The people of Christmas Island hold high importance in family, so divorce is not a very common practice in this country. It is uncommon on the island to make direct eye contact with another person, as well as it is for one to look at a person of high status or cut between the gaze of talking individuals. Making direct eye contact in this country, oddly enough, is a sign of disrespect. Parents also do not allow their children to cry or have temper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Qualities Of Women In Beowulf Supernatural Dangerous Women Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight are both Anglo Saxon poems that share a male dominated world with few female characters who have supernatural qualities. While the men in both stories have noble qualities, the women are portrayed adversely; they are disregarded even though they play an essential part to the story as either peace weavers or goaders to exert some sort of power. In Beowulf there are three main women: Wealhtheow, Grendel s mother, and Hildeburh. These women would amuse, bring contentment, or counteract their society s expectations of women in general. While the common role of a woman in this story is depicted as feeble and is dismissively mentioned, the Monster s mom (who is intentionally nameless to mirror the idea of a male dominated civilization) fights like a male warrior, claiming her position as a goader; one who provokes, annoys, or stimulates an action or reaction physically. ...When the mother of Grendel Entered the folk hall; the fear was less grievous By even so much as the vigor of maidens, 35 War strength of women, by warrior is reckoned, When well carved weapon, worked with the hammer, Blade very bloody, brave with its edges, Strikes down the boar sign that stands on the helmet. • 33. Like Water For Chocolate And John Steinbeck s The Grapes... In Laura Esquivel s Like Water for Chocolate and John Steinbeck s The Grapes of Wrath, the female characters are presented in nontraditional ways for the times in which the novels are set. Each novel shows a clear distinction between the male and female characters, and it would make sense to feel a feminist vibe from the authors at certain points in the novels. In these novels, the female characters use the traditional distinction between gender roles to change the dynamics of their families and function within the novel. Before discussing the change from identifying the characters traits as female to relating their actions more to a male identity, and vice versa, the relationships between the male and female characters must be explored ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast, the beginning of Like Water for Chocolate barely mentions men in leadership roles. Tita s father, who remains unnamed throughout the novel, is dead. Because he is an unnamed dead man he foreshadows the insignificance of the men in this novel. He is honestly better off dead than being emasculated by Mama Elena, or even Tita later in the novel. The only other men mentioned in the first chapter are Pedro and his father. Their encounter with Mama Elena was demeaning in itself. They were denied Tita s hand in marriage and manipulated by Mama Elena into marrying Pedro and Rosaura. Power in this novel is clearly, from the very beginning, in the hands of Mama Elena, a woman. Will that power remain with her up until her death or does Tita, by staying in her place cooking and nurturing, hold the power all along? The structure of Like Water for Chocolate is permeated in feministic tendencies. The subtitle reads, A Novel in Monthly Installments with Recipes, Romances, and Home Remedies. Does that not ring with the familiarity of women s magazines from the 1800 s and early 1900 s like Godey s Lady s Book and McCall s Magazine? Women would use these magazines to keep up with current fashion trends and to connect and share ideas with women they otherwise would not know. Communication is a powerful tool. Rapper s Charm Analysis The starting point of this analysis begins with the 1979 single Rapper s Delight by the Sugarhill Gang, as it is the first rap song in history to peak in the Billboard Top 40 . During this time, many African Americans in the Bronx were throwing block parties, thus the need for music that would be suitable for these occasions . Hence, the theme of this hit single was on partying so it could complement another form of hip hop: breakdancing. For example, The beat starts getting into your toes. And then damn you start doing the freak uses imagery, mixed in with the positive emotions given off from the upbeat tempo to encourage the audience to dance to this song. Another example is the line, But first, I gotta bang bang the boogie to the boogie. Say up jump the boogie to the bang bang boogie , which shows us that these lyrics were meant for partying with the word boogie . Also, this song is quite materialistic in its lyrics. You go to answer the door and you are promptly arrested and taken away from your family. Why, because you have been identified by someone as the perpetrator of a crime you have never heard of. Since you know that you are innocent you don t worry, until you get to the sentencing. Once you are sentenced for 50 years without parole, reality takes hold. You may think this cannot happen to you, but until we fix some major flaws with law enforcement, prosecution deals, and an overloaded system: This could happen to anyone. State prosecutors should not be able to convict anyone on eyewitness testimony only, without any other physical or forensic evidence. In eyewitness identification, in criminal law, evidence is received from a witness who has actually seen an event and can so testify in court. (Law.com Legal Online Dictionary) While this could be an important piece of the investigation, it can never take the place of DNA, or forensic evidence. Unfortunately, that happens all too much, with our overburdened legal and criminal justice systems. Eyewitness misidentification is widely recognized as the leading cause of wrongful conviction in the U.S., accounting for more wrongful convictions than all other cause combined. • 38. The Effects Of Religion On Athletic Performance Introduction Many athletes are superstitious, or go through the same series of progressions or habits before competition, because they believe it gives them luck or a better chance to perform optimally. Some of these habits, may include praying. The act of praying is a way for an athlete to think they can attain an edge, so they can compete better. During my time as an intern with Fordham Athletics, I was given many opportunities to spend time with athletes from a variety of sports. My interactions with these athletes, as well as my own experience as a college athlete who prayed before competitions, triggered my interest in the relationship between prayer, and athletic performance. Does prayer before competition affect the overall performance of an athlete? In this paper I will examine the effects of religion and prayer on an athlete going into competition, as well as how it affects an athlete s overall performance. Literature Review There has been scarce documentation covering the effects of religion on athletic performance. Up until two decades ago, articles and research consisted largely of people saying an athletes religious beliefs had no effect on their overall performance. We have all heard questions asking if it s necessary for a player to thank God after hitting a homerun, or taking a knee before the game and praying. These articles were mostly based on the opinion of the author, and not backed by empirical data. More recent research on this topic, includes a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Novel American Pastoral By Philip Roth A novelist incorporates three crucial elements when writing a novel. The first element is the ability for the author to draw from his or her own experiences. A novelist will paint an issue, usually political or social, on the canvas of the pages in the book. He or she draw from experiences, what they remember from the event taking place, locations, dates, and use a splash of fiction to blend the perfect color for the novel. The author will mainly stick to the color coated facts to give the reader an authentic feel for the story, but gracefully integrates fiction to in essence portray the spin to the truth they desire. A novel is also driven by the desire to understand others, often in a sympathetic light. And last, but not least, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Much of the minutiae of Swede s life were a reconstruction of the character through the imagination of how it would have occurred in Zuckerman s head.
