America The Land Of Opportunity Analysis
Imagine that you re in restaurant and the restaurant has a set dish that everyone gets or they had an
option of a buffet that has foods from every culture and many different options. You would probably
choose the buffet right? The buffet is actually what America represents as a whole. It has people and
religions from all over the world and it all seems to go together well. Also people have a choice in
how they want to lead their life and what changes will happen to them. America is often called, The
land of opportunity and that s is completely correct. Personally I was born in Korea and was adopted
and now live in America. I have found that in America you have to pave your own path to make what
you want of yourself. You can start from almost

Turning Point Of The Civil War Essay
People believe several different reasons led to the South s loss of the Civil War. However, I believe the
main reasons were lack of sufficient assets in comparison to the North, low morale, and lack of strong
military commanders. In the beginning of the Civil War, it may have been perceived as leaning in
favor of the Confederates. However, it was very obvious in the second half of the war that the Union
was in favor due to the incomparable counterparts. The assets of the North outweighed the assets of
the South. The North was more abundant in their resources, had twice the mileage of railroad tracks,
and five times the number of factories. The North imposed a blockade on the South and overtime it
closed most southern ports to major imports ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By late 1864, Richmond records said that the South had just over 400,000 soldiers and of that total,
only 196,000 were counted as present and ready for duty. The battle of Gettysburg and the battle of
Vicksburg is what I consider the major turning point of the Civil War. Gen. Robert E. Lee s defeat by
the Army of the Potomac forced his Confederate forces to retreat and they never recovered. The battle
of Gettysburg was a decisive point; Lee lost thousands of soldiers and officers he could not replace.
Union casualties in the battle numbered 23,000, while the Confederates had lost some 28,000 men
more than a third of Lee s army. The North rejoiced while the South mourned, its hopes for foreign
recognition of the Confederacy diminished. The loss of Vicksburg split the Confederacy. This resulted
in the inability to control the Mississippi River and prevented passage of supplies. President Abraham
Lincoln knew why the battle of Vicksburg was extremely important when he told his subordinate
leaders: See what a lot of land these fellows hold, of which Vicksburg is the key! The war can never
be brought to a close until that key is in our pocket...We can take all the northern ports of the
Confederacy, and they can defy us from Vicksburg. The Civil War continued for two more years. The
South would win some battles but General Ulysses S. Grant was much more willing to take risks
against Lee, which was not done before.

Essay on Japanese Economic Developent Post World War II
World War II left many powerful nations in smoke and rubble. The deconstruction of many countries
gave them the chance to rebuild their cities and economies. No country took more advantage of this
opportunity than Japan. Japan was a huge militaristic power in World War
II . Their aggressive behavior caused them to be stripped of their military and their power for self rule.
The demilitarization of Japan changed the country s focus from world militaristic domination to world
economic domination. The country established free trade, manufactured goods, and improved and
invented technology, making themselves one of the largest economic superpowers in the world.

were killed; others lay withering on the ground, screaming in agony
from the intolerable pain of their burns. Everything standing upright in
the way of the blast, wall, houses, factories, and other buildings, was
annihilated (Beck et al p.841).
That day 73,000 of 365,000 died in the city of Hiroshima (Samurai and Swastika). Three days after
Hiroshima the U.S. dropped a second atomic bomb over Japan. This time the bomb dropped on the
city of Nagasaki. The bomb killed 37,500 instantly; the radiation later killed more. The two bombs
devastated Japan.
The nation of Japan was torn between wanting to continue the war and wanting to surrender. The
Japanese government finally agreed to the surrender terms from the United States.
The Japanese Emperor urged the Japanese to lay down their weapons. They surrendered to
General Douglas MacArthur of the United States on September 2, 1945. The surrender took place
aboard the United States battleship Missouri in Tokyo Bay (Beck et al p.841). The surrender was first
signed by the Japanese foreign minister and then by General Umezu Yoshijiro.

Business Information Analysis
As technology is continously changing so is the amount of information produced as well. The way
organizations store this information and how its accessible is crucial for the company. Managing such
information can make the difference of the company survival and also to be able to stay abeast in its
market. According to Lohrey, Jackie (2017) Information is a critical business resource and like any
other critical resource must be properly managed. Constantly evolving technology, however, is
changing the way even very small businesses manage vital business information. Organizations have

take into consideration and monitor if any external issues arise. With case sensitive information being
accessible all precautions of to be taken and others actions are accountable. Another issue that could
arise for an organization is privacy. As technology evolves companies have access and gain
information on consumers and even employees that a concern of privacy could arise. Information on
consumers is gathered to understand how to market to consumers, and also to build brand awareness.
For numerous organizations privacy has became a concern which resulted in the company changing its

Martin Luther Purgatory Beliefs
Martin Luther, like most traditional Christians, believed that this life was simply a pilgrimage, a
journey toward our destination. That destination was an eternity spent either in heaven or in hell.
There was nothing one could do to earn a spot in heaven God freely forgave the sins of some, and they
could enter heaven. Luther disagreed strongly with the Roman Catholic teaching that there is also a
place called purgatory, because purgatory is not explicitly mentioned in the Bible. The belief in
purgatory developed over the course of the middle Ages, driven by the logic of the Catholic system of
sanctification. Those who were baptized and thus cleansed of the stain of original sin still had to pay
the debt for the offense of sin to a perfect God. In addition, any additional sins must be paid for. You
earned merits toward the debt by performing works, especially the sacraments. Lutheranism believe
that people are saved by God s mercy and forgiveness and not by righteousness for our past or even by
a personal action of deciding to following Jesus. Believing this Lutherans coined the phrase By Faith
Alone

Analysis Of Poetry By Marianne Moore Poetry
Poetry has been an form of lyrical expression for centuries. Poems have a way of invoking a multitude
of emotions in readers. Generally, if a poem is well received by the reader/readers, it can give them a
sense of intense importance or emotional attachment to the poem. However, bad poetry can have the
opposite effect on a reader, and completely turn them away from poetry all together. Twenty century
poet, Marianne Moore, challenges this response to poetry in her poem Poetry . Moore discusses the
ideas of bad poetry and its conciscuses with distinctive word choice, and a descending stepped like
structure to create a excellent poem herself. To understand Moores interpretation of what bad poetry is
one needs to look at how she presents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator then goes on to comparing the attempt to understanding these imitative poetry to animals
and how its just like trying to understand some of the nonsensical nature of animals. It dumbs one
down to the level of idiocy like a a wild horse taking a roll, a tireless/ wolf under/ a tree, the
immovable critic twinkling his skin like a horse/ that feels a flea, it s funny. Next, at the end of the
third stanza and beginning of the fourth, the narrator quotes a russian write, Leo Tolstoy, whom states
that poetry must have verses and that free verse is not poetry. Therefore, the narrator claims nor is it
valid/ to discriminate against business documents and/ school books ; all these phenomena are
important. One must/ make a distinction/ however: when dragged into prominence by half poets,/the
result is not poetry, essentially contradicting Leo Tolstoy s view on what poetry, and that just because
one is famous does not make them a poet. The narrator then goes on to reinforce this idea more.
Then, in the finally stanza the narrator claims that to write good poetry that isn t mindless
interpretations or claims to be poetry just because of the author by saying it must have imagination
and realness, imaginary gardens with real toads in them,/shall we have/it. The narrator states that if the
poem is presented in all of its rawness then the reader will genuinely be interested in the poem.
In conclusion, Moore states that as long as a poem is imaginative, and raw

The Impact Of Eleanor Roosevelt
Some know her as the First Lady of the United States and wife to Franklin D. Roosevelt; while others
know her as a feminist who empowered others to stand up for what they believe. Despite controversies
of what others perceived of Eleanor Roosevelt, she was truly a woman who understood her power and
used it to reach and support others and to have a voice for those who lacked it. Although she had to
overcome many difficulties and tribulations, historians state that; it is difficult to overstate the impact
of Eleanor Roosevelt of the history of the twenty century women not only in America, but also the

the rights of women; after World War I, Eleanor Roosevelt realized the power and influence she
obtained as First Lady of the United States and desired to help those who were helpless. She worked
with the International Congress of Working Women and the Women s International League of Peace
and Freedom; which promoted the end to poverty and war. The friendships made through these
societies not only shaped her understanding of the importance and equality of all people, but
dramatically changed her life forever. She was fully committed to American politics and human rights
and worked with women rights groups around the nation for women to become involved and to be part
of the New Deal. Eleanor Roosevelt encouraged women to be part of the union, limited the hours and
employer forced a woman to work, and fought for the rights for women to vote. She continuously
encouraged women to stand up for their rights and stated of their capability to do the work of that men

to promote women s equality and believed that women had special qualities that made the

Richard II Dbq Analysis
Late 14th century English king Richard II lost all of his power towards the end of his reign as a result
of his exploded sense of self importance and godly association, which led to fatal opposition from
multiple prominent aristocrats and eventually England as a whole. This gradual growth of opposition
can be seen in the persecution of Richard s most favored advisors; the aftermath of fear and
apprehension that followed Richard s execution of the Lord s appellant in 1397; and his swift and
universally encouraged abdication by Henry Bolingbroke, future Henry IV. The civil turmoil, famine,
and plague that marked 14th century England was left behind by Edward the Black Prince in 1376 and

Richard... sent forward the lord [Thomas] Despencer to stir up the men of Glamorgan to his help; but

who I think were traitors... he fled in panic at midnight with only a few followers... . Defenseless,
Richard s rule was effectively at an end, and with ubiquitous encouragement from Parliament and the
commonwealth, Henry of Bolingbroke held Richard captive until he unwillingly agreed to abdicate his
crown. Richard spent the rest of his days in Pontefract castle and died from starvation. Adam of Usk
summarizes the lasting deprecating reputation of King Richard II: Wherefore of this king Richard, as
of Arthgallo, once king of Britain, it may well be said in this wise: Arthgallo debased the noble and
raised up the low, he took from every man his wealth, and gathered countless treasure ; wherefore the

The Flight Attendant Training Program
Charles Lindbergh flew the first American Airlines flight on April 15, 1926 carrying U.S. mail from
St. Louis, Missouri to Chicago, Illinois (American Airlines). American Airlines flew United States
mail routes for about eight years until C.R. Smith and Donald Douglas created the DC 3 plane that
would change the airline industry. The DC 3 flew in service from New York to Chicago (American
Airlines). Over the years the company began to grow what it is today. American Airlines grew from
engineering the DC 3 to the DC 7 and eventually created new flight planes that would be able to take
passengers all over the United States and eventually overseas. American Airlines was the first airline
to create a specialized flight attendant training program (American Airlines). The airline knew the
importance of keeping its passengers comfortable during their flight. Finally, on October 16, 2015
U.S. Airways flew its last flight and on October 17, 2015 U.S. Airways and American Airlines began
to operate under one company. The key issues that are behind the American Airlines and U.S. Airways
merger is that when it all comes down to it is that once these two companies are combines they will be
better able to offer its customers better options according to Thomas C. Lawton (2013). However,
since two companies are becoming one the critics will argue that there will be less competition in the
airline industry especially since there seem only to be four major airlines now, Delta, American

Green Light in The Great Gatsby Essay
The Green Light in The Great Gatsby
The image of the green light in the novel Great Gatsby, by F. Scott
Fitzgerald, is a significant symbol which reflects Gatsby s dream and other
aspects beyond Gatsby s longing. Throughout the novel Fitzgerald uses many
other images or symbols. At first, it may seem very basic, but when the
symbol is closely studied, one may see the deeper meaning found within it.
Fitzgerald uses these symbols to make a point across to the reader. He
then uses this point and converts it into a deeper meaning, into a myth
about America. The green light mentioned in the novel clearly represents
and is a prime example of this.

Therefore, one cannot affiliate Gatsby with Daisy. The
reader does know that Nick admires Gatsby for his dream which is some way
linked with the green light. The color green represents life, hope, and
youth. Gatsby s fantasy will live as long as long as he remains gazing at
the green light.
In chapter four of the novel, Nick finds out from Jordan that
Gatsby bought the house so that Daisy would be just across the bay. Nick
responds to this fact: Then it had not been merely the stars to which he
had aspired on that June night. He came alive to me, delivered suddenly
from the womb of his purposeless splendor.
Until this point, Gatsby was a puzzle. Nick, at this moment,
solves the puzzle: Gatsby s house and extravagant style of living is a
necessity to reaching and fulfilling his dream rather than a flamboyant
exhibit of wealth. The truth that Gatsby is yearning for Daisy is now
apparent. This is being symbolized by the green light at the end of the
dock.
Gatsby finally meets Daisy in Chapter five of the novel. The
symbol of the green light becomes very evident. It becomes so distinct
that Gatsby even shows Daisy the green light. He says, If it wasn t for
the mist we could see your home across the bay... You always have a green
light that burns all night at the end of your dock. Daisy is so

Risk Assessment and Risk Management
Risk assessment and risk management
Introduction
There are many hazards associated in an industrial workplace. With new technologies, new machinery
and constant updates with regulations it is more important now than ever before to produce efficient
risk assessments. Good risk assessments reduce hazards and fatalities in dangerous areas in the
workplace. A good risk assessment will make workers feel safer and therefore happier and promotes a
good business structure within the company. A good risk assessment will help prevent legal action
against the company therefore saving the company money.
Identifying Hazards
When looking at a general workshop there are several hazards that could potentially cause an accident.
In this section, I will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Accidents with tools
The engineers have to use tools to carry out maintenance work, tools include small pocket knives,
screwdrivers, drills, ratchet sets etc. There is the need of tools to do maintenance so the likelihood of
incidents and accidents is very likely (Frequency: 4), severity is not as bad as there are a lack of
dangerous saws and other dangerous tools etc. Cuts from electrical/ metallic equipment are also likely
as well but shouldn t be too severe (Severity: 3).
Trip/Slip Hazards
Trip hazards come from misplaced boxes, pallets and other items that have been misplaced. Slip
hazards can come from a leaky roof or spilled drink, these incidences can often occur (Frequency: 3)
but they usually don t do too much damage but on rarity can be fatal (Severity: 2).
Oxidising Hazards
There are no real chemicals within the workplace that can cause oxidising problems or need constant
ventilation, therefore any oxidising accidents should be extremely rare (frequency: 1) but if they was a
miraculous incident, it could cause an explosion (Severity: 5).
Environment Hazards
There is waste in the workshop that can be harmful to the environment, such as disposing old batteries
that have Ni Cad Acid which can harm the environment /animals. Waste and rubbish is of a high

Chemical Reactions And The Chemical Reaction
Introduction
Chemistry is a branch of science commonly defined as the study of the structure, properties, and
reactions of the chemical elements and the compounds they form (The American Heritage Science
Dictionary, 2002). This definition is very general and covers a range of study areas, including those
that are an asset to society. Chemical reactions are studied by many chemists as they common
occurrences in everyday life (Stewart, 2014). Without chemical reactions people would be unable to
perform simple tasks that are essential for quality of life and even life itself, such as cooking, lighting
a match and breathing (Helmenstine, 2015). A chemical reaction occurs when a chemical change takes
place, producing new substances. However, all chemical reactions are different and vary greatly in the
time it takes for them to occur (Chem4kids.com, 2015).
A Reaction rate is the speed it takes for a chemical reaction to occur. That is, how fast a reactant is
used up or a product is formed (BBC, 2014). Rates of reaction are essential in important tasks such are
medicine administration and it is therefore crucial for scientists to understand how they work and what
affects them (Lofts, 2012). The mechanics of reaction rates is based around the theory of collision,
proposed by Max Trautz and William Lewis in the early 1900 s. The theory suggests that reactant
particles must collide for a chemical reaction to occur, the more collisions that occur, the faster the
reaction rate will

The Practicality Of Network Security
Introduction: As a concept, the practicality of Network Security includes using activities designed to
protect a user s network. Specifically, the core aim for this security is to protect the usability,
reliability, integrity, and safety of data on that network. In Network Securitythere are numerous
applications and software programs that are used by individuals which perform their own roles in
securing network data. The most common and possibly the most essential application used to protect
network data is known as a firewall. A firewall is a program that is designed to act as a barrier between
an external network and the users. It is fundamentally designed to stop hackers, scammers, viruses,
worms, and essentially any unauthorised ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Looking toward the future with the exponential evolution in technology, it is key to gather a more in
depth and analytical study of the methodologies involved in firewall systems.Observing the current
direction of firewall development can provide an idea of the improvements that can be made to keep
up with an ever expanding technological society; especially as more and more people are being
exposed, uneducated, to the dangers of the internet. Aim: By taking a look at the average household or
business building, it is realised that a common aspect of their basic structure is the physical security
mechanisms in place. These are in place to protect the privacy and integrity of what the owner
possesses within. In terms of a network, this concept of preventing unauthorised access of one s
property is just as valid. However, in the situation of a network, a firewall is used as this prevention
security system. The idea is simple; a user may have stored, on their network, a certain amount of
private data that is personal to them or their business. Thus, a firewall is put in place in order to
prevent anything or anyone that does not have authorisation from accessing any of this data. If an
unknown and potentially dangerous individual were to try to get into a building complex, the physical
security appliances would react and prevent this from happening. A firewall works the same way;
however it deals with potentially harmful packets entering the network. These packets are

Id, Ego, And Superego In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
People show who they really are when there are no rules and chaos takes over. A man named Sigmund
Freud creates the idea that all people are made up three main characteristics. The fist characteristic is
the Id, wanting anything that will bring it immediate happiness. The Ego is the second characteristic,
feeding the Id in socially acceptable ways to continue getting what it wants. The final characteristic is
the Superego. The Superego is developed last and is the part of all humans that does things for the
greater good. In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, Golding uses three characters to represent the
idea of Id, Ego, and Superego. William Golding uses a character named Jack to represent the Id, doing
anything to get what he wants. Golding uses Ralph to represent the Ego, trying to get what he wants in
socially acceptable ways. Finally, a boy named Piggy is used to represent the Superego, doing things
for the greater good of the group. The three characters represent the three main characteristics that
every human has, Jack is the Id, Ralph is the Ego, and Piggy is the Superego. In Lord of the Flies by
William Golding, the character named Jack represents the Id, doing anything to get what he wants and
not stopping, no matter the consequences. This is shown when Jack gets back from a fruitless hunting
trip and talks to Ralph and Simon, explaining, I went on. I thought, by myself The madness came into

Taking a Look at Edith Cavell
Edith Cavell was born in 1865 at Swardeston in Norfolk. Her father, Frederick Cavell, was a Church
of England vicar there. Even though her family was quite poor, Edith had a good childhood memory
playing with her father, brothers and sisters. At her young age, she was taught to share what she had
with others. The family Sunday lunch was always divided in half to give for the poor villagers. Edith
and her mother also liked to visit the poor and she became a Sunday School teacher and Godmother to
some of the poorer children in her hometown.
Her interest in caring for others and belief in humanity influenced her to become a fun, smiling and
kind governess, looking after the young children in New England. Then, Edith decided to travel for a
few weeks in Austria and Bavaria where she came across a free hospital, run by a Dr. Wolfenberg. She
was so impressed by it that she donated some of her money to keep it up. That also helped her interest
in nursing aroused. When Edith returned to Swardeston to nurse her sick father, what she experienced
really convinced her to follow the nursing career in 1896.
It was interesting to know that even though nursing was a very old and necessary occupation, it was
not considered as a proper profession until the mid 19th century. It is because from medieval times,
the main source of nurses was the nuns but they were never trained professionally. At the time Edith
pursuing her career, the nursing work was very hard. The hours were as long as from

Unit 5 Health Safety and Security P2,M1
P2: Outline how legislation, policies and procedures relating to health, safety and security influence
health and social care settings.
M1: Describe how health and safety legislation, policies and procedures promote the safety of
individuals in a health or social care setting. Within health and social care there are a number of acts
and procedures set out in legislation which must be followed. These acts ad procedures influence care
settings by offering practical examples of good practice and the way that health and social care should
be delivered. They provide advice on how to comply with the law and determine what is reasonably
practicable. The acts enforce a duty of care to everyone who is involved at all levels such as the

Effects Of Parental Addiction On Children
THE EFFECTS PARENTAL ADDICTIONS HAVE ON CHILDREN
Alexis Holcomb
The cost of alcohol and substance abuse in the United States reaches heights of four hundred eighty
four billion dollars per year ( Magnitude ). That s about seven hundred eighty times the amount it cost
to diagnose and treat sexually transmitted diseases in the year 2000 (Chesson). The sole purpose of
this is not to persuade you one way or the other on this topic. Nor is the purpose to apologize for this
social issue. The purpose of this writing is to employ data showing the societal effects parental
addictions have on children, to show how this data has remained relevant in society, and to show how
it is affecting our future members of society.
In this paper, I look at forms of substance abuse and the effects on children. I will be using the
following headings to break down the different issues associated with this social problem: social
causes, phenomenon, and consequences. I hope to educate those that may be ignorant to the situation,
and help to spark a flame that can be used to not be a bystander, but a solution to the problem at hand.
Social Causes
An estimated twenty five percent of youth under eighteen are exposed to familial alcohol abuse
(Bellum). The Illinois Department of Human Services says that nearly six hundred seventy five
thousand children per year suffer serious abuse or neglect as a direct result of substance abuse (
Children ). What makes this a big problem in society?

Child Sexual Abuse (ASA)
Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) and Adolescent Sexual Abuse (ASA) basically encompasses the
involvement of a child in sexual behaviors or activities that the child is neither physically nor mentally
prepared to initiate or to get involved into. It includes all the cases of victims who lack the capacity to
consent, as well as the legal standards specific to each country. Of the different forms of child abuse,
CSA and ASA is linked to severe injury. Numerous empirical studies have established a relationship
among CSA, ASA and psychological injuries such as Major Depressive Disorder, Dysthymia,
Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Phobic Disorders, which may become manifest in the short term or
become chronic. In order to assess the effects of child and adolescent ... Show more content on

This meta analysis necessitates, certain limitations that should be fetched in our conscience when
elucidating the data. The ground truth of the primary studies for the classification of abuse generally
rests on self reports of a retrospective nature, that relies on individual memory capabilities, and are
related to false positives or false alarms. Victims self reports of sexual abuse may bias the results
towards concealing them (false negatives), in particular for males. Primary studies assume that injury
to mental health is ramifying to abuse, without gauging other possible causes (cause effect
relationship). The effect of the variables under analysis in primary studies was not completely isolated
as in many studies victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect, and other categories appear under
the same umbrella. And as some studies had no control group, the normative population was taken as
the contrast group, or it was not equivalent to the experimental one with the subsequent potential for
distortion in the calculated effect sizes. Alternatively, the results of the meta analysis were subject to
little variability, that is, Ns 400 and a large k were highly generalizable (entirely for the female
population, and for males with the exception of the diagnosis of a disorder and the general measure of
anxiety for the male population), whereas 93 studies with no significant results would be required to
annul the evidence supporting the claim that CSA and ASA leads to mental health injuries. Further
research is required to determine which moderators inhibit the generalization of the effects in the
general measure of anxiety in the male population and in the diagnosis of depression and

Psychological Research And Its Impact On Society
Drawing on examples from chapters 3, 4 and 8 of Investigating Psychology, examine and assess the
extent to which psychological research is of value to society. Psychological research describes
investigations psychologists undertake in order to review and analyse a specific hypothesis, (a theory
about the relationship between defined variables). Research allows theories to be confirmed, amended
or rejected and often leads to further research as requirements evolve. Psychological research can take
many forms, from laboratory based experiments to non invasive viewing of subjects in their own
environment. This research can take place using human or non human subjects and the analysed
results applied to human behaviour or experience within many disciplines including, education, legal
or occupational. Psychological research may be undertaken on a subset of society; however the
importance of the results may have an effect way beyond the group tested. The value of psychological
research varies and the same results can be used in different ways by different groups of society. I will
be looking at three areas of psychological research that affect the way we interact with and can be
affected by technological advances. These pieces of research were not undertaken as a result of current
hypotheses, but were the early examples of research within their areas and led onto further research. I
will be showing how psychological research can provide awareness, can be used to manipulate

Obesity in Australian culture and society
Obesity in Today s Australian Culture and Society
Introduction Obesity is best referred to as the red alert health zone . The thing that makes obesity that
dangerous is the fact that today s society does not view obesity as a serious threat. It is important to
understand the fact that obesity is not just being fat or having a BMI i.e. Body Mass Index greater than
that of an overweight person. Obesity is a serious problem that can fatally damage the physical as well
as mental health of a person. While all of us understand how obesity can affect the physical health, a
few of us know how mental health is affected due to obesity. A person suffering from obesity is
termed as obese. Such a person is usually a victim of mockery and insult due to his appearance. No
matter how educated we are we as a society have failed to keep in account the fact that obese people
are also humans and deserve to be treated normally. The unequal treatment for the obese along with
the comments consisting of insults and mockery combined together to form a state of mental
instability in the obese person. This results in a higher rate of anxiety and depression in the obese. The
severity of depression is sometimes so high that it results in suicide attempts. Obese people are
generally viewed by the others as the annoyed people. The reason for that is the fact that due to the
alienated treatment from the normal people, they are likely to have emotional instability which results
in severe mood

An Experiment On The Organic Effect Essay
The Organic Effect is a video that conduct an experiment on a family for two weeks. The video was
promoted by an organic food store The Coop grocery in Sweden and the Swedish Environmental
Research Institute ( Hall ). In this video a family of five switched from conventional food to organic
for two weeks. Before beginning the experiment urine samples were taken and analyzed for
conventional pesticides food. It turned out that they had different insecticides, fungicides, and plant
growth regulators inside their bodies. The experiment began and everything in the kitchen was
replaced from conventional to organic food only ( Hall ). Then Another sample of urine was taken and
almost all the pesticides disappeared; the level dropped drastically ( Hall ). At the beginning of the
video the mother explained why her family chose to eat conventional food, and it was because it s less
expensive for her big family. However, at the end of the experiment she said that she was reevaluating
her decision because of her children ( Hall ).
Kavin Senapathy wrote an article based on the video because the advertisements mislead the public,
and they didn t offer the whole story to the audience (Senapathy ). She explained that the study was
done in only one family and they just analyzed the urine for pesticide used on conventional food only
and most people didn t realize that organic agriculture uses pesticides too (Hall ). The company is

Analysis Of My Pen Writes In Blue And White By Vincent...
In his essay, My Pen Writes in Blue and White Vincent Cremona writes on how his two distinct styles
of writing and communication are influenced by the manner in which his parents communicated. He
implants the idea in the reader s mind that the influences of those one is raised by help shape an
individual s unique style of communication. In the essay, Cremona describes how communicating in
blue means he uses a practical, basic, and straight to the point manner of delivering information which
he adopted from his father; communicating in white means a more formal, detail oriented approach to
delivering information in which he learned from his mother. He also describes how he adapts his style
of writing depending on the situation and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was raised by two very straight to the point parents who almost wholeheartedly exclude any detail
from their sentences and that is very similar to how I communicate today. This concept applies more
to just the mannerisms of one s writing and those one is raised by have a large impact on a large
variety of an individual s personality traits. According to Diana Baumrind(1991) there are three
distinct parenting styles, but we will only be observing two of them: authoritarian, and authoritative
parenting. Authoritarian parents are strict and place on emphasis on following rule and assume the
child is not very competent. Authoritative parents are very involved in the child s life and set
reasonable rules, and have faith in the child s competence. A common example of this is the
differences between kids who are raised with authoritarian parenting styles are more likely to end up
experimenting with drugs and alcohol, engaging in illegal activities, and develop symptoms of
depression or anxiety. Meanwhile kids who are raised with authoritative parenting styles typically
adopt healthy habits and end up doing better in school, while also engaging in extracurricular
activities. A person s early life experiences, especially the examples and style of parenting set by those
who raised them, can significantly influence nearly every minute aspect of an individual s life and
Cremona s essay embodies that idea. I certainly never considered this until reading his work and
reflecting on my own experience in how my parents raised me influenced not only how I act, perform
at work and school, but also the manner in which I communicate with other people on an everyday

Operation Cerberus also known as Channel Dash took place during World War II when a German
squadron consisting of two battleships and a heavy cruiser ran through a British blockade to further
their reach form British air attacks. The objective was to sail from Brest in Brittany through the
English Channel and then to home bases in Germany. This would also put them further north giving
them the advantage to intercept North Atlantic convoys in support of the Soviet Union efforts. The
German battleships arrived in Brest on March 22, 1941 after taking part in sinking 22 merchant ships
in the Atlantic making them a high priority target. Then on June 1, a heavy cruiser arrived to join the
battleships. Brest was a good location for the

Western Religion Essay
Throughout this semester we focused on numerous different religious practices and traditions.
Focusing now on these new religious ideals and practices has provided many different suggestions
towards spirituality: Spirituality is personal, unique, self validating, authentic, and authoritative,
whereas religion is institutional, bureaucratic, social, inflexible hierarchical, and authoritarian
(Anderson and Young 295). Many of these new practices involve women, healing methods, and
alternative divine figures. Overall, it is a common theme from many of these spiritual practices to not
have a set textual religious book such as a Bible or Torah. In addition, they do not look up to a
spiritual figure, or have set rituals or practices: New Age ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In specific, with the Wiccan women: Wiccans are cautious about their relationships with others and
especially cognizant of their relationship with the earth (Anderson and Young 307). Along with this,
they believe: What you do, whether for good or for ill, returns to you (Anderson and Young 307). This
practice is stemmed from their Rule of Three. This rule is generalized as: being careful for the things
we wish for in life, as well as how actions can create consequences. These consequences in large can
create a chain reaction in consequences broadly on the world. Along with this, magic or magick is an
important aspect of Wiccans: Magic usually refers to the ability to affect the outcomes of events
through communal or individual thought and ritual action (Anderson and Young 309). In correlation to
the magic aspect of the Wiccan spirituality, many members call themselves witches. With this title,
many cast spells and use the magic to work through the conscience of members. However this specific
practice of spell work is not required. As many people believe magic to be a sinister act or something
out of a fictional story, that speculation can be reflected on to this Wiccan act: Magic is usually
contrasted with religion: magic is seen as a way of manipulating the universe by using specific spells,
whereas religion does not use the universe as ultimately manipulable in this way (Anderson and
Young 309). However the Wiccan s loophole to this statement refers to the fact that their magic is less
about manipulation and more about using the power to evoke positive changes to the world. This
magical practice gives rise and support to the enchanted world they believe to live in rather than the
cold world. Diving deeper into this spiritual practice brought some confusion and questionability to
mind. Although I believe there could be many

The Importance Of Environment On The Environment
The environment has a major influence in the personal health of a child and many of them are not
aware of how it affects them drastically. Various health conditions are either caused or aggravated by
environmental factors. One of the major health causing hazards is air pollution which can results in
asthma, cancer, and other severe respiratory conditions of which, many of these children are naïve
about how to protect themselves from these diseases. Students from the grades four through sixth need
to be educated about the health hazards resulting from air pollution and learn practices at school that
will help lessen air pollutants for their overall health and for future generations as well. Applications
such as riding your bike and walking to school, and creating your own garden, will help promote good
health for children as it will help improve air quality for them.
Education
Educating students on environmental hazard, specifically air pollution, at a young age can help
prevent premature respiratory conditions and so, teachers must find creative ways for students to
understand how much air quality can affect them. To begin one of these activities, teachers will
provide background information about common issues that are affecting the environment both
globally and locally then provide an activity that will get students engaged as to understanding why
and how these issues came to be. Students in grades four through six should be able to understand the
characteristics of organisms and their environment, and so teachers will focus on the latter of this
topic. One of the lessons would be teaching what is environmentalism, by stating that, everything that
we do in our daily lives affects this interrelationship [ecology] as the earth is always changing. Today
people are changing the earth faster than any forces of nature. We have created many problems like
landfills, oil spills, and nuclear disasters (Norwood 1996). Once understanding the facts, students will
record a weeks worth of visible pollution by spreading a thin layer of Vaseline on one side of several 3
by 5 index cards then placing the cards in a variety of places where they will be undisturbed for one
week. At the end of the week collect all the

In the play a Midsummer Night s Dream, Helena states that, Though she be but little, she is fierce!

The height margin today is not as great as it was,. This is true as well, many people don t see the big
parts in little people. Although people aren t seen for their great abilities at first; they will soon be

shorter people make an impact. In this world people do not realize how much people make an impact.

Rhetorical Theory Of Identification And Hillary Clinton s...
Rhetorical Theories of Persuasion:
Theory of Identification and Hillary Clinton s 2016 Campaign Video
The theory of identification is one of the rhetorical theories of persuasion. Under the theory of
identifications, there are several key assumptions. One assumption is that the speaker has at least one
quality that is similar to one of the qualities of the audience. At the least, the speaker must have the
ability to make it appear to the audience that they have one similar characteristic. Another assumption
is that being able to identify with the traits of the speaker can persuade the audience to agree with the
speaker s argument. This means that the audience is receptive to the speaker s portrayals of his or her
traits. In all of these, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, identification comes in full circle when the audience members are able to relate with the
projected qualities or beliefs (Burke and Zappen 336). This relational process is contingent on whether
the projected qualities or beliefs are similar or the same with the qualities or beliefs that the audience
members possess. In other words, audience members must have a prior understanding of their own
qualities and beliefs.
Symbolism is another concept in the theory of identification. In a nutshell, symbolism, as its name
suggests, uses symbols in order to represent ideas or values. In theory of identification, symbols are
used in order to compel the audience to identify with the values or ideas that the symbols stand for
(Taboada and Mann 571). In a sense, the meaning of symbols may vary from one person to another.
Nevertheless, given the proper context, the meaning of certain symbols may be established with more
clarity. This implies that symbols are also able to project certain identities. For example, a monument
may elicit upon the viewer the memories of a bitter event in a particular community and the lessons
that the event continue to bring to the same community. When applied to a larger group, symbols may
induce cooperation among their intended audience (Taboada and Mann 575). In other words, the
audience members are not only able to identify with the symbol but also with one another. Indeed,

Gender and Power Relations in Browning’s Porphria’s Lover...
Gender and Power Relations in Browning s Porphria s Lover and My Last Duchess
Robert Browning provides a critical view of gender and power relations in his dramatic monologues
Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess. The dramatic monologue, as S.S. Curry has written, reveals
the struggle in the depths of the soul (11). Browning delves into the minds of characters to show their
conceptions of women and ideas of power. He explores the mental processes of the characters, and
invites readers to question societal ideas of power and gender. The mental pathologies of the speakers
is emphasized, which forces readers to examine the sanity of their own notions of gender dynamics.
In the Victorian age, the idea of separate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In men, in general, sexual desire is inherent and spontaneous whereas in the other sex, the desire is
dormant, if not non existent, till excited (457). Greg s terminology is extremely power laden.
Spontaneous has the connotation of energy and activity, whereas dormant and victim imply inactivity.
An important concept is the assumption that men, the coarser sex, act on women, the weaker sex
(457).
Like prostitutes, the women in Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess also violate traditional gender
roles. For that reason, the men take it upon themselves to bring the power relation back to that of
convention, where men are bearers of power and have control in relationships. The means by which
this power reversion is accomplished, however, are subject to examination.
Foucault s theories are helpful in understanding Porphyria s Lover. In the poem, the male character,
who is the narrator, perceives himself to elicit a confession from the woman. Inherent in the idea of
confession are power dynamics. Confession is ...a ritual that unfolds within a power relationship, for
one does not confess without the presence (or virtual presence) of a partner who is not simply the
interlocutor but the authority who requires the confession... (Foucault 61). Confession is a socially
constructed process in which it is necessary to have a mediator as well as a confessor.

  • 3. Turning Point Of The Civil War Essay People believe several different reasons led to the South s loss of the Civil War. However, I believe the main reasons were lack of sufficient assets in comparison to the North, low morale, and lack of strong military commanders. In the beginning of the Civil War, it may have been perceived as leaning in favor of the Confederates. However, it was very obvious in the second half of the war that the Union was in favor due to the incomparable counterparts. The assets of the North outweighed the assets of the South. The North was more abundant in their resources, had twice the mileage of railroad tracks, and five times the number of factories. The North imposed a blockade on the South and overtime it closed most southern ports to major imports ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By late 1864, Richmond records said that the South had just over 400,000 soldiers and of that total, only 196,000 were counted as present and ready for duty. The battle of Gettysburg and the battle of Vicksburg is what I consider the major turning point of the Civil War. Gen. Robert E. Lee s defeat by the Army of the Potomac forced his Confederate forces to retreat and they never recovered. The battle of Gettysburg was a decisive point; Lee lost thousands of soldiers and officers he could not replace. Union casualties in the battle numbered 23,000, while the Confederates had lost some 28,000 men more than a third of Lee s army. The North rejoiced while the South mourned, its hopes for foreign recognition of the Confederacy diminished. The loss of Vicksburg split the Confederacy. This resulted in the inability to control the Mississippi River and prevented passage of supplies. President Abraham Lincoln knew why the battle of Vicksburg was extremely important when he told his subordinate leaders: See what a lot of land these fellows hold, of which Vicksburg is the key! The war can never be brought to a close until that key is in our pocket...We can take all the northern ports of the Confederacy, and they can defy us from Vicksburg. The Civil War continued for two more years. The South would win some battles but General Ulysses S. Grant was much more willing to take risks against Lee, which was not done before. ... • 4. Essay on Japanese Economic Developent Post World War II World War II left many powerful nations in smoke and rubble. The deconstruction of many countries gave them the chance to rebuild their cities and economies. No country took more advantage of this opportunity than Japan. Japan was a huge militaristic power in World War II . Their aggressive behavior caused them to be stripped of their military and their power for self rule. The demilitarization of Japan changed the country s focus from world militaristic domination to world economic domination. The country established free trade, manufactured goods, and improved and invented technology, making themselves one of the largest economic superpowers in the world. World War II ... Everything standing upright in the way of the blast, wall, houses, factories, and other buildings, was annihilated (Beck et al p.841). That day 73,000 of 365,000 died in the city of Hiroshima (Samurai and Swastika). Three days after Hiroshima the U.S. dropped a second atomic bomb over Japan. This time the bomb dropped on the city of Nagasaki. The bomb killed 37,500 instantly; the radiation later killed more. The two bombs devastated Japan. The nation of Japan was torn between wanting to continue the war and wanting to surrender. The Japanese government finally agreed to the surrender terms from the United States. The Japanese Emperor urged the Japanese to lay down their weapons. They surrendered to General Douglas MacArthur of the United States on September 2, 1945. The surrender took place aboard the United States battleship Missouri in Tokyo Bay (Beck et al p.841). The way organizations store this information and how its accessible is crucial for the company. Managing such information can make the difference of the company survival and also to be able to stay abeast in its market. According to Lohrey, Jackie (2017) Information is a critical business resource and like any other critical resource must be properly managed. • 6. Martin Luther Purgatory Beliefs Martin Luther, like most traditional Christians, believed that this life was simply a pilgrimage, a journey toward our destination. That destination was an eternity spent either in heaven or in hell. There was nothing one could do to earn a spot in heaven God freely forgave the sins of some, and they could enter heaven. Luther disagreed strongly with the Roman Catholic teaching that there is also a place called purgatory, because purgatory is not explicitly mentioned in the Bible. The belief in purgatory developed over the course of the middle Ages, driven by the logic of the Catholic system of sanctification. Those who were baptized and thus cleansed of the stain of original sin still had to pay the debt for the offense of sin to a perfect God. In addition, any additional sins must be paid for. You earned merits toward the debt by performing works, especially the sacraments. Lutheranism believe that people are saved by God s mercy and forgiveness and not by righteousness for our past or even by a personal action of deciding to following Jesus. • 7. Analysis Of Poetry By Marianne Moore Poetry Poetry has been an form of lyrical expression for centuries. Poems have a way of invoking a multitude of emotions in readers. Generally, if a poem is well received by the reader/readers, it can give them a sense of intense importance or emotional attachment to the poem. However, bad poetry can have the opposite effect on a reader, and completely turn them away from poetry all together. Twenty century poet, Marianne Moore, challenges this response to poetry in her poem Poetry . Moore discusses the ideas of bad poetry and its conciscuses with distinctive word choice, and a descending stepped like structure to create a excellent poem herself. Next, at the end of the third stanza and beginning of the fourth, the narrator quotes a russian write, Leo Tolstoy, whom states that poetry must have verses and that free verse is not poetry. Therefore, the narrator claims nor is it valid/ to discriminate against business documents and/ school books ; all these phenomena are important. One must/ make a distinction/ however: when dragged into prominence by half poets,/the result is not poetry, essentially contradicting Leo Tolstoy s view on what poetry, and that just because one is famous does not make them a poet. The narrator then goes on to reinforce this idea more. Then, in the finally stanza the narrator claims that to write good poetry that isn t mindless interpretations or claims to be poetry just because of the author by saying it must have imagination and realness, imaginary gardens with real toads in them,/shall we have/it. The narrator states that if the poem is presented in all of its rawness then the reader will genuinely be interested in the poem. • 9. Richard II Dbq Analysis Late 14th century English king Richard II lost all of his power towards the end of his reign as a result of his exploded sense of self importance and godly association, which led to fatal opposition from multiple prominent aristocrats and eventually England as a whole. This gradual growth of opposition can be seen in the persecution of Richard s most favored advisors; the aftermath of fear and apprehension that followed Richard s execution of the Lord s appellant in 1397; and his swift and universally encouraged abdication by Henry Bolingbroke, future Henry IV. The civil turmoil, famine, and plague that marked 14th century England was left behind by Edward the Black Prince in 1376 and entrusted in the hopeful 10 year old king Richard II in ... Defenseless, Richard s rule was effectively at an end, and with ubiquitous encouragement from Parliament and the commonwealth, Henry of Bolingbroke held Richard captive until he unwillingly agreed to abdicate his crown. Richard spent the rest of his days in Pontefract castle and died from starvation. Adam of Usk summarizes the lasting deprecating reputation of King Richard II: Wherefore of this king Richard, as of Arthgallo, once king of Britain, it may well be said in this wise: Arthgallo debased the noble and raised up the low, he took from every man his wealth, and gathered countless treasure ; wherefore the chiefs of the land, unable longer to bear such great wrongs, revolting against him, put him aside and set up his brother to be ... The Flight Attendant Training Program Charles Lindbergh flew the first American Airlines flight on April 15, 1926 carrying U.S. mail from St. Louis, Missouri to Chicago, Illinois (American Airlines). American Airlines flew United States mail routes for about eight years until C.R. Smith and Donald Douglas created the DC 3 plane that would change the airline industry. The DC 3 flew in service from New York to Chicago (American Airlines). Over the years the company began to grow what it is today. American Airlines grew from engineering the DC 3 to the DC 7 and eventually created new flight planes that would be able to take passengers all over the United States and eventually overseas. American Airlines was the first airline to create a specialized flight attendant training program (American Airlines). The airline knew the importance of keeping its passengers comfortable during their flight. Finally, on October 16, 2015 U.S. Airways flew its last flight and on October 17, 2015 U.S. Airways and American Airlines began to operate under one company. The key issues that are behind the American Airlines and U.S. Airways merger is that when it all comes down to it is that once these two companies are combines they will be better able to offer its customers better options according to Thomas C. Lawton (2013). Scott Fitzgerald, is a significant symbol which reflects Gatsby s dream and other aspects beyond Gatsby s longing. Throughout the novel Fitzgerald uses many other images or symbols. At first, it may seem very basic, but when the symbol is closely studied, one may see the deeper meaning found within it. Fitzgerald uses these symbols to make a point across to the reader. • 19. Chemical Reactions And The Chemical Reaction Introduction Chemistry is a branch of science commonly defined as the study of the structure, properties, and reactions of the chemical elements and the compounds they form (The American Heritage Science Dictionary, 2002). This definition is very general and covers a range of study areas, including those that are an asset to society. Chemical reactions are studied by many chemists as they common occurrences in everyday life (Stewart, 2014). Without chemical reactions people would be unable to perform simple tasks that are essential for quality of life and even life itself, such as cooking, lighting a match and breathing (Helmenstine, 2015). A chemical reaction occurs when a chemical change takes place, producing new substances. However, all chemical reactions are different and vary greatly in the time it takes for them to occur (Chem4kids.com, 2015). A Reaction rate is the speed it takes for a chemical reaction to occur. That is, how fast a reactant is used up or a product is formed (BBC, 2014). Rates of reaction are essential in important tasks such are medicine administration and it is therefore crucial for scientists to understand how they work and what affects them (Lofts, 2012). The mechanics of reaction rates is based around the theory of collision, proposed by Max Trautz and William Lewis in the early 1900 s. The theory suggests that reactant particles must collide for a chemical reaction to occur, the more collisions that occur, the faster the reaction rate will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. The Practicality Of Network Security Introduction: As a concept, the practicality of Network Security includes using activities designed to protect a user s network. Specifically, the core aim for this security is to protect the usability, reliability, integrity, and safety of data on that network. In Network Securitythere are numerous applications and software programs that are used by individuals which perform their own roles in securing network data. The most common and possibly the most essential application used to protect network data is known as a firewall. A firewall is a program that is designed to act as a barrier between an external network and the users. It is fundamentally designed to stop hackers, scammers, viruses, worms, and essentially any unauthorised ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Looking toward the future with the exponential evolution in technology, it is key to gather a more in depth and analytical study of the methodologies involved in firewall systems.Observing the current direction of firewall development can provide an idea of the improvements that can be made to keep up with an ever expanding technological society; especially as more and more people are being exposed, uneducated, to the dangers of the internet. Aim: By taking a look at the average household or business building, it is realised that a common aspect of their basic structure is the physical security mechanisms in place. These are in place to protect the privacy and integrity of what the owner possesses within. In terms of a network, this concept of preventing unauthorised access of one s property is just as valid. However, in the situation of a network, a firewall is used as this prevention security system. The idea is simple; a user may have stored, on their network, a certain amount of private data that is personal to them or their business. Thus, a firewall is put in place in order to prevent anything or anyone that does not have authorisation from accessing any of this data. If an unknown and potentially dangerous individual were to try to get into a building complex, the physical security appliances would react and prevent this from happening. A firewall works the same way; however it deals with potentially harmful packets entering the network. These packets are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Id, Ego, And Superego In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies People show who they really are when there are no rules and chaos takes over. A man named Sigmund Freud creates the idea that all people are made up three main characteristics. The fist characteristic is the Id, wanting anything that will bring it immediate happiness. The Ego is the second characteristic, feeding the Id in socially acceptable ways to continue getting what it wants. The final characteristic is the Superego. The Superego is developed last and is the part of all humans that does things for the greater good. In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, Golding uses three characters to represent the idea of Id, Ego, and Superego. William Golding uses a character named Jack to represent the Id, doing anything to get what he wants. Golding uses Ralph to represent the Ego, trying to get what he wants in socially acceptable ways. Finally, a boy named Piggy is used to represent the Superego, doing things for the greater good of the group. The three characters represent the three main characteristics that every human has, Jack is the Id, Ralph is the Ego, and Piggy is the Superego. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the character named Jack represents the Id, doing anything to get what he wants and not stopping, no matter the consequences. • 22. Taking a Look at Edith Cavell Edith Cavell was born in 1865 at Swardeston in Norfolk. Her father, Frederick Cavell, was a Church of England vicar there. Even though her family was quite poor, Edith had a good childhood memory playing with her father, brothers and sisters. At her young age, she was taught to share what she had with others. The family Sunday lunch was always divided in half to give for the poor villagers. Edith and her mother also liked to visit the poor and she became a Sunday School teacher and Godmother to some of the poorer children in her hometown. Her interest in caring for others and belief in humanity influenced her to become a fun, smiling and kind governess, looking after the young children in New England. Then, Edith decided to travel for a few weeks in Austria and Bavaria where she came across a free hospital, run by a Dr. Wolfenberg. She was so impressed by it that she donated some of her money to keep it up. That also helped her interest in nursing aroused. When Edith returned to Swardeston to nurse her sick father, what she experienced really convinced her to follow the nursing career in 1896. It was interesting to know that even though nursing was a very old and necessary occupation, it was not considered as a proper profession until the mid 19th century. It is because from medieval times, the main source of nurses was the nuns but they were never trained professionally. At the time Edith pursuing her career, the nursing work was very hard. Effects Of Parental Addiction On Children THE EFFECTS PARENTAL ADDICTIONS HAVE ON CHILDREN Alexis Holcomb The cost of alcohol and substance abuse in the United States reaches heights of four hundred eighty four billion dollars per year ( Magnitude ). That s about seven hundred eighty times the amount it cost to diagnose and treat sexually transmitted diseases in the year 2000 (Chesson). The sole purpose of this is not to persuade you one way or the other on this topic. Nor is the purpose to apologize for this social issue. The purpose of this writing is to employ data showing the societal effects parental addictions have on children, to show how this data has remained relevant in society, and to show how it is affecting our future members of society. In this paper, I look at forms of substance abuse and the effects on children. I will be using the following headings to break down the different issues associated with this social problem: social causes, phenomenon, and consequences. I hope to educate those that may be ignorant to the situation, and help to spark a flame that can be used to not be a bystander, but a solution to the problem at hand. Social Causes An estimated twenty five percent of youth under eighteen are exposed to familial alcohol abuse (Bellum). The Illinois Department of Human Services says that nearly six hundred seventy five thousand children per year suffer serious abuse or neglect as a direct result of substance abuse ( Children ). Of the different forms of child abuse, CSA and ASA is linked to severe injury. This meta analysis necessitates, certain limitations that should be fetched in our conscience when elucidating the data. The ground truth of the primary studies for the classification of abuse generally rests on self reports of a retrospective nature, that relies on individual memory capabilities, and are related to false positives or false alarms. Victims self reports of sexual abuse may bias the results towards concealing them (false negatives), in particular for males. Primary studies assume that injury to mental health is ramifying to abuse, without gauging other possible causes (cause effect relationship). The effect of the variables under analysis in primary studies was not completely isolated as in many studies victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect, and other categories appear under the same umbrella. And as some studies had no control group, the normative population was taken as the contrast group, or it was not equivalent to the experimental one with the subsequent potential for distortion in the calculated effect sizes. Alternatively, the results of the meta analysis were subject to little variability, that is, Ns 400 and a large k were highly generalizable (entirely for the female population, and for males with the exception of the diagnosis of a disorder and the general measure of anxiety for the male population), whereas 93 studies with no significant results would be required to annul the evidence supporting the claim that CSA and ASA leads to mental health injuries. Psychological Research And Its Impact On Society Drawing on examples from chapters 3, 4 and 8 of Investigating Psychology, examine and assess the extent to which psychological research is of value to society. Psychological research describes investigations psychologists undertake in order to review and analyse a specific hypothesis, (a theory about the relationship between defined variables). Research allows theories to be confirmed, amended or rejected and often leads to further research as requirements evolve. Psychological research can take many forms, from laboratory based experiments to non invasive viewing of subjects in their own environment. This research can take place using human or non human subjects and the analysed results applied to human behaviour or experience within many disciplines including, education, legal or occupational. Psychological research may be undertaken on a subset of society; however the importance of the results may have an effect way beyond the group tested. The value of psychological research varies and the same results can be used in different ways by different groups of society. I will be looking at three areas of psychological research that affect the way we interact with and can be affected by technological advances. • 28. Obesity in Australian culture and society Obesity in Today s Australian Culture and Society Introduction Obesity is best referred to as the red alert health zone . The thing that makes obesity that dangerous is the fact that today s society does not view obesity as a serious threat. It is important to understand the fact that obesity is not just being fat or having a BMI i.e. Body Mass Index greater than that of an overweight person. Obesity is a serious problem that can fatally damage the physical as well as mental health of a person. While all of us understand how obesity can affect the physical health, a few of us know how mental health is affected due to obesity. A person suffering from obesity is termed as obese. Such a person is usually a victim of mockery and insult due to his appearance. No matter how educated we are we as a society have failed to keep in account the fact that obese people are also humans and deserve to be treated normally. The unequal treatment for the obese along with the comments consisting of insults and mockery combined together to form a state of mental instability in the obese person. This results in a higher rate of anxiety and depression in the obese. The severity of depression is sometimes so high that it results in suicide attempts. Obese people are generally viewed by the others as the annoyed people. The reason for that is the fact that due to the alienated treatment from the normal people, they are likely to have emotional instability which results in severe mood ... In the essay, Cremona describes how communicating in blue means he uses a practical, basic, and straight to the point manner of delivering information which he adopted from his father; communicating in white means a more formal, detail oriented approach to delivering information in which he learned from his mother. This concept applies more to just the mannerisms of one s writing and those one is raised by have a large impact on a large variety of an individual s personality traits. According to Diana Baumrind(1991) there are three distinct parenting styles, but we will only be observing two of them: authoritarian, and authoritative parenting. Authoritarian parents are strict and place on emphasis on following rule and assume the child is not very competent. Authoritative parents are very involved in the child s life and set reasonable rules, and have faith in the child s competence. A common example of this is the differences between kids who are raised with authoritarian parenting styles are more likely to end up experimenting with drugs and alcohol, engaging in illegal activities, and develop symptoms of depression or anxiety. Meanwhile kids who are raised with authoritative parenting styles typically adopt healthy habits and end up doing better in school, while also engaging in extracurricular activities. A person s early life experiences, especially the examples and style of parenting set by those who raised them, can significantly influence nearly every minute aspect of an individual s life and Cremona s essay embodies that idea. Focusing now on these new religious ideals and practices has provided many different suggestions towards spirituality: Spirituality is personal, unique, self validating, authentic, and authoritative, whereas religion is institutional, bureaucratic, social, inflexible hierarchical, and authoritarian (Anderson and Young 295). Many of these new practices involve women, healing methods, and alternative divine figures. Overall, it is a common theme from many of these spiritual practices to not have a set textual religious book such as a Bible or Torah. Along with this, they believe: What you do, whether for good or for ill, returns to you (Anderson and Young 307). This practice is stemmed from their Rule of Three. This rule is generalized as: being careful for the things we wish for in life, as well as how actions can create consequences. These consequences in large can create a chain reaction in consequences broadly on the world. Along with this, magic or magick is an important aspect of Wiccans: Magic usually refers to the ability to affect the outcomes of events through communal or individual thought and ritual action (Anderson and Young 309). In correlation to the magic aspect of the Wiccan spirituality, many members call themselves witches. With this title, many cast spells and use the magic to work through the conscience of members. However this specific practice of spell work is not required. As many people believe magic to be a sinister act or something out of a fictional story, that speculation can be reflected on to this Wiccan act: Magic is usually contrasted with religion: magic is seen as a way of manipulating the universe by using specific spells, whereas religion does not use the universe as ultimately manipulable in this way (Anderson and Young 309). However the Wiccan s loophole to this statement refers to the fact that their magic is less about manipulation and more about using the power to evoke positive changes to the world. This magical practice gives rise and support to the enchanted world they believe to live in rather than the cold world. Diving deeper into this spiritual practice brought some confusion and questionability to mind. Although I believe there could be many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Importance Of Environment On The Environment The environment has a major influence in the personal health of a child and many of them are not aware of how it affects them drastically. Various health conditions are either caused or aggravated by environmental factors. One of the major health causing hazards is air pollution which can results in asthma, cancer, and other severe respiratory conditions of which, many of these children are naïve about how to protect themselves from these diseases. Students from the grades four through sixth need to be educated about the health hazards resulting from air pollution and learn practices at school that will help lessen air pollutants for their overall health and for future generations as well. Applications such as riding your bike and walking to school, and creating your own garden, will help promote good health for children as it will help improve air quality for them. Education Educating students on environmental hazard, specifically air pollution, at a young age can help prevent premature respiratory conditions and so, teachers must find creative ways for students to understand how much air quality can affect them. To begin one of these activities, teachers will provide background information about common issues that are affecting the environment both globally and locally then provide an activity that will get students engaged as to understanding why and how these issues came to be. Students in grades four through six should be able to understand the characteristics of organisms and their environment, and so teachers will focus on the latter of this topic. One of the lessons would be teaching what is environmentalism, by stating that, everything that we do in our daily lives affects this interrelationship [ecology] as the earth is always changing. Today people are changing the earth faster than any forces of nature. We have created many problems like landfills, oil spills, and nuclear disasters (Norwood 1996). Once understanding the facts, students will record a weeks worth of visible pollution by spreading a thin layer of Vaseline on one side of several 3 by 5 index cards then placing the cards in a variety of places where they will be undisturbed for one week. Rhetorical Theories of Persuasion: Theory of Identification and Hillary Clinton s 2016 Campaign Video The theory of identification is one of the rhetorical theories of persuasion. Under the theory of identifications, there are several key assumptions. One assumption is that the speaker has at least one quality that is similar to one of the qualities of the audience. At the least, the speaker must have the ability to make it appear to the audience that they have one similar characteristic. Another assumption is that being able to identify with the traits of the speaker can persuade the audience to agree with the speaker s argument. This means that the audience is receptive to the speaker s portrayals of his or her traits. In all of these, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words, audience members must have a prior understanding of their own qualities and beliefs. Symbolism is another concept in the theory of identification. In a nutshell, symbolism, as its name suggests, uses symbols in order to represent ideas or values. In theory of identification, symbols are used in order to compel the audience to identify with the values or ideas that the symbols stand for (Taboada and Mann 571). In a sense, the meaning of symbols may vary from one person to another. Nevertheless, given the proper context, the meaning of certain symbols may be established with more clarity. This implies that symbols are also able to project certain identities. For example, a monument may elicit upon the viewer the memories of a bitter event in a particular community and the lessons that the event continue to bring to the same community. When applied to a larger group, symbols may induce cooperation among their intended audience (Taboada and Mann 575). Browning delves into the minds of characters to show their conceptions of women and ideas of power. An important concept is the assumption that men, the coarser sex, act on women, the weaker sex (457). Like prostitutes, the women in Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess also violate traditional gender roles. For that reason, the men take it upon themselves to bring the power relation back to that of convention, where men are bearers of power and have control in relationships. The means by which this power reversion is accomplished, however, are subject to examination. Foucault s theories are helpful in understanding Porphyria s Lover.
