Arctic National Wildlife Refuge Dispute
Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, or ANWR, is a refuge geared toward preserving national wildlife in
northeastern Alaska. ANWR is about 19 million acres, in space, and contains a potential drilling spot
for oil and petroleum. The potential drilling spot is a small area known as the 10 02 Area. It is only 1.5
million acres, or 8%, of ANWR, would even be considered for development (What is ANWR). The
controversy surrounding ANWR is whether to drill or not to drill into the 10 02 area. Some people
want to preserve the wilderness and to find more fuel efficient technologies. Others want to lower gas
prices and to create more job opportunities. If the government decides to drill for oil, it could possibly
lead to about 17 billion barrels of oil, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Drilling in ANWR could greatly benefit the United States. It could boost the economy, decrease
foreign oil trade, lower oil prices worldwide and create about 750,000 jobs, throughout the United
States. On the other hand it could ruin ecosystems and tamper with wildlife s habitats, for a less than
significant amount of oil. Either way a decision has to be made. Prudhoe Bay is steadily declining.
The question is whether the government wants to continue paying the high price of foreign imports or
drill at ANWR and potentially ruin fragile and ecologically sensitive ecosystems.

Switzerland Is A Federalist State, Where The Power Is Divided
Switzerland is a federalist state, where the power is divided between the three levels: the
Confederation, the cantons, and the communes. The way Switzerland handles matters is through the
principle of subsidiarity, where a smaller branch of the government can handle issues and solve them,
instead of having the more powerful branch of government handle those issues. In Switzerland, the
people hold the most power, which allows the people to vote on the country s issues and voice their
opinions to each of the individual parts of the political systems. The confederation, the highest of the
three political systems, handles duties relating to foreign and security policy, customs and monetary
policy, national legislation, and defence. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They both have central bank independence. The Swiss National Bank can affect money supply
through open market operations where they auction repo transactions by volume tender or by variable

changing the interest rate conditions and the price formation in Switzerland s money market by
making offers in the electronic market. This can help stabilize money market rates in the short term
(Monetary Policy Instruments).
The Swiss National Bank (SNB) is maintaining its expansionary monetary policy. Interest on sight

developments and supporting economic activity. The Swiss franc continues to be significantly
overvalued. The negative interest rate and the SNB s willingness to intervene in the foreign exchange
market are intended to make Swiss franc investments less attractive, thereby easing pressure on the
currency. The negative interest rate is suppose to induce investors to not buy investments so the Swiss
currency stabilizes (Monetary Policy Assessment of 16 March 2017).

Essay A Western Identity Crisis
This country was founded by immigrants and is known for its population from a wide array of cultural
backgrounds. Living in a westernized society that is so diverse, we are forced to choose an identity for
ourselves at one point or another in our lives. Some choose to identify by their outer qualities, while
others may identify by their inner qualities. One may identify by their looks, gender, sexuality,
political views, or their beliefs. Some may have an identity that is dynamic and ever changing
depending on the events faced in life, or some my identify by a single aspect throughout their whole
life. Some may even struggle finding an identity due to the countless influence both conscious and

According to Saenz, our identities are shaped by our surroundings. He describes a student: He did not
produce himself. He is a product. And the word product here should not be confused with victim.
Though we may all occupy different positions in the material world, we are all products of the
cumulative discourse around us (Saenz 71). We are products of our environment, and the course each
of us takes in life is dependent on how we allow the discourse to shape us and our beliefs. Choosing
an identity is necessary, and many of us are forced to have more than one identity. We have an identity
that we choose, a private identity, and are forced to also have a public identity. Our public identity is
shaped by politics and our cultural surroundings. According to Saenz, the West s obsession began with
Plato and Aristotle and was extended by (among others) Thomas Aquinas, Augustine, Descartes,
Locke, Hume, Heidegger and Marx (75). This obsession with political identity continues into present
day and the West s obsession has a great impact on our public identity. Our public identity is not one
that we may necessarily choose, but rather is forced upon us by others. While some say we are all the
same. We all love, we all hate, we all dream, we all will die. We feel. We all feel (73). There is so little
truth behind such a statement. We are not all the same, not genetically,

Memoir Of A Dog-Personal Narrative
My arms were cold as the brisk air hit me from left and right as I stood in a only a tank top and mini

What Is South Park Oxymoron
For South Park to be a cartoon and the main characters are drawn as children, its provides not on irony
but an oxymoron as well. Its purpose is to appeal male audience as well. I believe it is a balance for a
man who still loves cartoons who does not want to watch shows such as Pokemon . South Park is an
adult cartoon that caters to the inner child of older viewers who watch it.
Notable television review companies such as TV.com, IMDb, and Common Sense Media rated South

John Diefenbaker s Relationship With Cuba
Diefenbaker s Relationship with Cuba
John Diefenbaker s actions during the Cold War in the early 1960 s laid the ground work for Canada s
close relationship with Cuba that continues today. Diefenbaker refused to cut off ties with Cuba,
angering the United States President, John F. Kennedy. Diefenbaker did not support the United States
further than their NATO commitment, and did not send any troops to the Bay of Pigs Invasion. John
Diefenbaker refused to give support to the United States during the Cuban Missile Crisis, causing a
rift between Canada and the United States. Without John Diefenbaker s work during the Cold War,
Pierre Trudeau never would have been able to visit Cuba and form a close bond with Fidel Castro. It is
due to John Diefenbaker s efforts that Cuba gets along with Canada.

Personal Narrative On Independence
About seven months ago tax season was upon us. The time people either rejoice in receiving a fair

Why do we have pain?
A girl stubs her toe Ouch, she exclaims that hurts. This is what everybody calls pain; a physical thing
that is very unpleasant. Everyone, of the billions or even trillions of people on earth go through it. A
person is probably going through it right now and nobody except the people around that person know
about it. Pain is common though no one wants to figure out the simplest questions. For example why
do we have pain and other questions related to it. Though now people can finally get answers. It is
important to understand what causes pain to know the reason behind it, the different varieties, and
what a person experiences.
Pain, everybody want to know what causes it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though not always are the reactions better for us, there are better responses than ones that can harm a
person s body even more. For example, in the article A Path Out of Pain it tells others some reactions
people go through, some reactions for people is they tense up and that person then holds that person s
breath, freeze and/or ar frantic, or even make noises. It just all depends on the person. ( n.p.). This can
tell people what kind of reactions that a person does and then learn, as well as try not to do it for it
harms the body more than helps it. This is important for it then shows people that even a person s
reaction will not always help the situation at hand. More evidence says, in A Path Out of Pain this
Instead of reacting you could choose to respond. For example: instead of tensing up you could relax;
instead of holding your breath you could breath gently; instead of changing your position constantly
you could let yourself be still; and instead of making faces, holding, yourself or sighing, you could let
the experience in and let pain be. ( n.p.). This demonstrates that people should do the things listed
above so that anybody who is hurt does not harm the body part even more. This is significant because
it can help people respond different than be angry. A person can feel calmer and at least a little relaxed
for that person knows what to do. This tells people that how you react can hurt more, but some of the
responses that were listed could help a person get through the pain that will come in the

Fahrenheit 451 And Tobias Wolfr Swot Analysis
Many people have important jobs because they are trustworthy, they have great ideas, and they know
how to take control of different situations. On the other hand, some people in charge are not worthy of
their spot and do not always do or say what is right. In In Pharaoh s Army, Tobias Wolff shows that the
authorities are not always in the right place to make a decision. In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury has a
different way of showing that the authorities aren t always right. In Fahrenheit 451, the authorities
often lie to make their new reality easier for the community or people to cope with the situation.
Tobias Wolff and Ray Bradbury both have a very different way of portraying thoughts, but they both
give the same message when the authorities are not always right. Pete Landon is a Foreign Service
Officer and he does not always do what is right, especially to the people around him. Pete started off
pretty tough in Vietnam, starting out as a translator. He has progressed through the years and moved
up ranks. He enjoys his life in Vietnam and actually is in favor of the war. Pete has one of the nicest
houses in Vietnam for an American. He often has no work anymore and just travels around visiting
people. He also always has very fancy and elegant dinners consisting of Filet mignon and wine.
Everyone loves Pete and they almost think of him as a celebrity. If Pete likes you, you re cool. When
Tobias and Pete were hanging out, Pete said Tobias did not have a real job in the war.

Effect of Antiseptic Handwashing vs Alcohol Hand Sanitizer
Effect of Antiseptic Handwashing vs Alcohol Sanitizer on Health Care Associated Infections in
Neonatal Intensive Care Units
Introduction
This article seeks to determine if alcohol hand sanitizers are as effective as
antiseptic handwashing at reducing or eliminating health care associated infections in a
neonatal intensive care unit. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta,
GA, recommends use of waterless alcohol hand products in lieu of traditional
handwashing for patient care, but there is little data demonstrating the impact of this
recommendation on health associated infections.

* Measurements of nurses skin condition and microbial density on hands compared using t test data
obtained via crossover studies. Hand hygiene practices were reported on nurse diary cards and quality
scores from direct observation were compared between products (ALC hand sanitizer containing 61%
ethanol and emollients or CHG antiseptic detergent containing 2% chlorhexidine gluconate) with
10,000 patient days of follow up and overall infection rate of 14 per 1,000 patient days. * The study
had more than 90% power to detect a risk ratio between the two treatment groups of 1.6. For
bloodstream infections with 5500 catheter days of follow up and a rate of 17.5 per 1000 catheter days,
we had 90% power to detect a risk ratio of 1.5. Additionally, with 1500 infants, the study had 90%

Findings/Interpretation
Numerous studies have confirmed the efficacy of alcohol based products, reported
microbicidal effects of hand sanitizer containing 61% ethanol and emollients (ALC) as
good or superior to those of other antiseptics. Several studies have shown better removal
of methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus or vancomycin resistant enterococci from
the hands of health care workers by ALC when compared with antiseptic detergent
containing 2% chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG). A recent study by Pittet,, J.M., showed

The Cruelty Of Animals And Animals
Tons of people in the world that love animals and enjoy having their company. This is why most
people have pets around their household. With these pets we often train them to do special tricks for
example with dogs, the classic shake or rollover is something owners love seeing. With every new
trick that they learn, we give them treats and lots of love. With the treat and love that we give our pets,
they feel loved and happy, maintaining their health and happiness and that also makes the owners
happy. Unfortunately for other animals across the world, they are abused constantly to be fit enough to
do special tricks to entertain people. Many people enjoy seeing animals doing tricks and stunts,
especially animals that are rare to be seen by the human population. But what they don t know is how
harmful it is to the animals. From the constant abuse, these animals life span are shortened and more
are getting hurt daily. These animals aren t actors yet thousands of these animals are forced to perform
meaningless tricks under physical punishment. With places like SeaWorld and circuses, human
trainers and performers choose to be there and entertain people while the animals that are used in their
facility have no choice and are forced to perform. While there are some laws and organizations that

Abstract: A mechanism of the initiated nonbranched chain process of forming 1,2 alkanediols and
carbonyl compounds in alcohol formaldehyde systems is suggested. The quasi steady state treatment
is used to obtain kinetic equations that can describe the nonmonotonic (with a maximum) dependences
of the formation rates of the products on the concentration of free unsolvated formaldehyde. The
experimental concentration of the free unsolvated form of formaldehyde are given at the different
temperatures, solvent permittivity, and total concentrations of formaldehyde in water and alcohols.
An empirical equation for calculating the free formaldehyde concentration in alcohol formaldehyde
(including water/ethanediol formaldehyde) systems at various temperatures and total formaldehyde
concentrations and an equation for evaluating solvent concentrations in these systems were derived.
Keywords: nonbranched chain process, free formaldehyde, 1 hydroxyalkyl radical, formyl radical,

Kingdom of Heaven what s True from False
The movie Kingdom of Heaven took place during medieval times. The movie is some what factual but
certain parts of the movie are based on false elements. The movie s factual elements began with the
first crusades, which began in 1144 and ended in 1149. The fight between the Muslims and Christians
over the Holy land Jerusalem ended with the Christians giving the Holy Land to the Muslims. The
Kingdom of Heaven is a good movie but, not historically correct . It explains what happens during the
first crusade but, they were inaccurate with the characters. This film is not as historically correct as
other movies could be, but has a good understanding in some areas.
There are many accurate characters in this film. Balian is a great character, but is not truly portrayed
by Hollywood. Balian never was a blacksmith, and his wife never committed suicide, he also knew his
father, but was legitimate to him. Balian and Sibylla never were never involved with one another but,
his brother Baldwin , had some love interests. Balian also never traveled to Jerusalem, he was already
there as nobility. Sibylla also died during the battle unlike the movie, where it had her ride off with
Balian and not be a queen. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

improve their letter formation of capital letters with use of the IPad application program for
Handwriting Without Tears (HWT). I plan to implement the IPad app with points given for each
successful formation of letters. I will apply this intervention using an Multiple baseline design.

Students will use their index finger or stylus for creating letters on the IPad screen. Each student will
participate in the intervention alone in class while others attend speech services.
Measurement: Frequency/Count My paraprofessional and I will take turns measuring baseline data
daily at 2:00 p.m.,2:15 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. during the designated writing period for each student. We
will use a point data collection sheet and make note of points earned (0 1) for each attempted letter.
How this single case design study will proceed: The introduction of the HWT intervention will be
staggered across different points in time for each student. Starting with Students 1, 2 and 3, baseline
data (A) will be collected throughout the entire intervention process. For Student 1 baseline will be
collected a minimum of 5 consecutive data points or until baseline indicates a steady/stable rate before
introduction of the intervention. When baseline is stable we will then initiate the intervention phase
(B). Once the intervention indicates a steady increase of performance we will begin the same process
for Student 2 and then Student 3 with indicated stable/steady baselines before implementation of the
intervention phase. The dependent variable will be measure though all six phases of the multiple
baseline design.
How this single case design study meets standards set forth by Kratochwill, et al. (2010):
The use of HWT IPad application will be systematically

Barak Lost Link With The Natural World
During a world literature class, we watched a film called Baraka, which was cinematically beautiful
and restored within me this lost link with the natural world. It was a compilation of footage of people
and places all over the world, spliced together to form this story of the lives we lead in this modern
world. The film juxtaposed the hectic environment of the machinery that drives the mass production
of consumer goods with footage of serene Japanese snow monkeys relaxing in hot spring baths. This
to me represented how unnatural the world filled with technology and mass consumption in which we
live really is and how it fares poorly when compared with the natural world. It caught my eye that too
often as human beings we are caught up in the motions of life. As I was watching, I was undergoing a
self realization that we forget that we have some other purpose in life besides our monotonous
routines. We aren t just some specks under the sprawling skyscrapers and cities, we must retain our
bond with nature.
Baraka presented these subliminal images that I could easily develop into connections to my life. The
film illustrated the being of nature that exists around us and how indiscreetly we human beings are
becoming forgetful of it. Images of parents driving their children in different countries to school, to
me was a metaphor of delivering them to this promised future of success. In the film this was
juxtaposed to a scene where an innocent child confined to poverty is looking

Benefits Of Roundabouts In The City Of Yucaipa
In the city of Yucaipa, back in 2014, a plan was approved for the city to make several roundabouts to
replace stop lights and stop signs along residential areas. They made a plan that would place 5 of these
roundabouts along Avenue E and a few along Yucaipa Blvd. the plan would, in the end, cost them
around $2.3 million (according to a 2013 estimate). Now Calimesa wants to follow in its footsteps and
build 6 new roundabouts along County Line Rd. along with a road restoration project that will cost
well over $16.4 million to complete. The city is calling for Yucaipa to contribute almost $2 million,
while also receiving an $11 million grant from the federal TIGER program. The city will still have to
contribute about $3.7 million to cover ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The city is making a mistake. If they can t afford it, then they need to invest more to bring businesses
and services for the people. That way, they can afford to make such a huge project plan. The mentality
that roundabouts would attract tourists is the wrong one to have. They would not earn back the money
that they cost the city. And while they lessen the impact of car accidents on the road, they cause more
accidents as people are unfamiliar on how to enter or go through a roundabout. And they are
inconvenient or maybe even intimidating for pedestrians with their design. On top of that, they are
disadvantages with the many blind spots that are created, either from the driver s focus or the
inconvenient decorative islands in the center of the intersection. Why are we even making
roundabouts then? I don t know. Well actually I do have an idea why, but it just seems illogical to me.
Possible solution number 1) Just don t build the roundabouts. Simple. Well, not really, the leftover
funds need to go somewhere after all. There is a call to improve the roads in this small town in
Calimesa, and after the last sudden burst of rainfall we received recently, the roads are in some really
bad shape. The funds would be better used to repair the existing roads, and it would likely be less
costly and would require no land

American Higher Education Of The Deaf And Dumb At Columbia...
Abstract
Since the establishment of the division for the deaf and dumb at Columbia University in 1864.
American Higher education has been influenced and responsive to changes in federal civil rights
protections for students with disabilities while facing both internal and external pressures on how to
deal with persons with disabilities. The establishment of students with disabilities in an American
higher education context found its start with the admission of students with sensory disabilities,
primarily deaf and blind students. Changes because of the world wars poured federal funding into
programs to assist veterans with acquired disabilities return to the workforce. The rise of the disability
rights movement resulted in the passage of federal protects that mandate the creation of disability
support services and bared institutional discrimination at all institutions. These changes saw students
with disabilities and the services to support them move from marginalized, and often experimental,
into the mainstream of student affairs and higher education.
First Research Essay for American Higher Education
Many historical studies of American higher education cover the development of academia as well the
development of the institutions themselves. Further, in recent years historical scholars have introduced
the development of previously underserved student communities in higher education such as Women

Figurative Language And Appreciation Of The Jade Flower...
Ashley Wisniewski Mrs. Synder English III 17 November 2017 Flower Jade Palace Famous Chinese
Poet, Tu Fu advocates appreciating the loveliness one could be surrounded by while it exists because
he believes beauty may not earn its deserved value. The poet was born into a life of wealth and
familial connections until his life was changed by a rebellion in 755. When the T ang dynasty s days
of glory came to an end, the artist spent his days on the road. Towards the end of his life, Tu Fu was in
poor health and suffering from many hardships. Tu Fu s poems reflected his life; he did not appreciate
the luscious life he had until it was gone, and Tu Fu s work was not appreciated until he passed away
(Elements of Literature 873). Tu Fu s Jade Flower Palace utilizes figurative language and sound
devices to portray his negative feelings of uncertainty about the future. In one of Tu Fu s younger
works, Jade Flower Palace, the poem goes into the deeper meaning of appreciating beauty and how
important it is to cherish loveliness during its lifespan. Tu Fu is standing in the ruins of a palace,
observing what is left of the destroyed and no longer stunning building. The artist believes the palace
was not appreciated for its charm while it was standing in one piece. Tu Fu s wish is that the lovely
surroundings could be truly valued because one can not determine what can happen to elegance in the
future. The poet s work has a deeper meaning than what it originally displays,

and more. Based upon a typical Middle Ages romantic story, the 2001 movie Shrek, directed by
Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, Shrek is a children s classic that contains a mixture of crude
humor and innuendos. The movie Shrek fits the genre of Middle Ages romance, though slightly
altered for contemporary humor, as it contains the elements such as; a near perfect hero, supernatural
elements, and female figures who are maidens in need of rescue. Starting with the near perfect hero,
who the character Shrek resembles, appears to be the cliché, unlikely hero. As the hero, Shrek, who is

How To Write An Essay On The Cardiovascular System
Cardiovascular System
April 18th, 2016 Cade.S Matthew.B
Have you ever wondered how the heart transports blood to the whole body? Did you know that the
circulatory system can also be called the cardiovascular or vascular system? This is the most important
system of the 11 major organ systems because this system controls the heart and the veins throughout
the body. There are also at least 5 major functions of the cardiovascular system.
Some of the major functions of the cardiovascular system are transporting hormones and fighting off
diseases. Other functions include transporting the nutrients and removing the waste from the body.
The cardiovascular system can also regulate your body temperature. Some of these functions are not
as important as transporting oxygen to the heart and removing the carbon dioxide from the heart.

One significant disease is the coronary artery disease. The coronary artery disease, also known as
CDA, is the most common of the heart diseases. CDA is the leading cause of death in the U.S. in both
men and women. CDA is known to cause the heart muscle to become narrow and hardened. These
symptoms could lead to chest pain (angina) or a heart attack. Over time, this could lead up to the heart
weakening and can cause heart failure arrhythmias.
Another disease that interacts with the cardiovascular system is rheumatic heart disease which can
also be called RHD. This disease is the most acquired heart disease for people under 15 years of age in
many countries around the world, especially in developing countries. RHD is a chronic heart condition
caused by a rheumatic fever that can be controlled and prevented. Rheumatic fever is caused by a

Three principal elements required to create a MATLAB Graphical User Interface. The elements are
components, figures, callbacks.
1. Components
Each item on a GUI is a graphical component. The types of components include graphical controls
(pushbuttons, radio buttons, edit boxes, lists, sliders, etc.), static elements (frames and text strings),
menus, and axes. Graphical controls and static elements are created by the functions and axes are used
to display graphical data which is created by the function axes.
2. Figures
The components of a GUI must be arranged within a figure, which is a window on the computer
screen.
3. Callbacks
Finally, there must be some way to perform an action if a user clicks on a button. A mouse click or a
key press is an event, and the MATLAB program must respond to each event if the program is to
perform its function. The code executed in response to an event is known as a call back. There must be

The 2nd Vatican Council Essay
The 2nd Vatican Council
Starting with the First Council of Nicaea in 325 the Catholic Church established a tradition of
ecumenical Council meetings to help decide on and shape the future of the Church. The most recent
Council, called Vatican II, is considered to be both the largest ever in scope and also the most ground
breaking in the amount of change it yielded. The changes in doctrine, dogma and procedure they
enacted had major effects both inside and outside the Catholic Church and continue to today.
Before the Vatican II the Catholic Church was an aging dinosaur, still crippled by the Reformation and
unable to relate to contemporary man. It emerged from it a modern Church, tolerant and accepting of
other religions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That alone doubled the amount of documents created by the previous twenty councils combined.
Many were concerned that when the council officially began it would be so weighed down by the
breadth of its task that the bishops would be unable to make changes significant to the contemporary
man. That concern would soon be dispelled.
In recent times, the Curia had grown very confident in their authority over the rest of the Church s
bishops since the decree of papal infallibility made at the 1st Vatican Council. They expected the rest
of the church s leaders to arrive in Rome and essentially rubber stamp their decisions. However,
despite the Curia s attempts to keep it hidden there was a great deal of discontent in the church. That
was illustrated by the thousands of submittals that were sent to the church for possible inclusion in the
council.
On the first day of meetings during the first session in October 11th 1962 it became clear that real
introspection would be inevitable and that the Curia would not be placidly followed. Cardinal Lieneat
of France and Cardinal Frings of Germany took the first step by successful challenging the pre
selection of the members of the ten committees that would be in control the council voice. Once that
happened, the assembled leaders and the world at large knew that this would be more than a rubber
stamp council.
That first session lasted until December 8th and did not end with any documents approved or
consensus found. Of

Book Thief Theme
Alexis Javier Mrs. Rosenwasser English 9H October 13, 2014 The Book Thief by Markus Zusak The
Book Thief is a text set in Germany during the time of World War II, focused on the life of the
protagonist, Liesel Meminger. Liesel, a young German girl, loses her family including her brother
Werner who died on a train on the way to Munich. She comprehends the feeling of loss and pain and
is conscious that she is existing in hard times. The narrator of the story, Death, witnesses her brother s
demise and kneels down to extract the boy s soft and cold spirit as Liesel shakes Werner in an attempt
to resuscitate him (Zusak 21). Of course, it does not work as Death questions Liesel s struggle to

However, one interesting theme is forming ties with others. In Liesel s journey, she meets many
people, exclusively through her love of books and words. For instance, Liesel and her foster father,
Hans Hubermann, did not have a strong bond with each other. It was evident that Liesel did not want
to be with Rosa and Hans Hubermann. Later on, Liesel would have to deal with the constant remarks
of Saumensch, Saukerl, or Arschloch by Rosa. On the other hand, she became more comfortable living
with them because of reading and learning words from The Grave Digger s Handbook. Hans and
Liesel establish a deeper and more involved relationship with these books. For example, Hans and
Liesel study the alphabet which shows their bond developing. [Hans] patted the girl s hair. She d fallen
into his trap. With a smile like that, you don t need eyes. He hugged her and then looked again at the
picture, with a face of warm silver. Now for T (68). Moreover, Hans gifted Liesel with books for her
birthday such as The Mud Men, which intensified their relationship even more. Based on this
evidence, it is palpable that Hans and Liesel s bond strengthened through books and words from the
moment of Liesel s arrival through the end of their

African American Literature Reflection Paper
Before starting this class, African American Literature, I wasn t too sure what to expect. I had never
taken an AFAS class before but I had heard great things from my friends so I decided to take one.
Professor Carter was an amazing professor and always sounded to extremely passionate and excited
during class which I found very admirable. The way he spoke about the different aspects of the class
and the different pieces of writing was very intriguing and always held my attention in class. We read
a variety of African American literature in this class which included novels, poems, and short stories
and each and every one of them related perfectly to what we were talking about during that time in
class. We studied different authors and their writing styles, as well as different eras including the
Harlem Renaissance.
The thing that set this class apart from the rest was the use of multimedia in the class. This included
the weekly voice threads, the live videos each class period, and the multimedia projects throughout the
semester. This was my favorite part of the class. I loved how the professor didn t just want us to
express our opinions of the literature in projects, but he wanted us to express our opinions in the most
creative ways. We were assigned weekly voice threads which allowed us to answer several questions
based off of our own opinions of the readings we read for class. Personally, I loved this because I felt
like I could proudly share what I felt about the reading

Essay on Imperialism- Conrad s Heart of Darkness
Imperialism and its oppressive processes have affected societies as well as individual lives for
centuries. In Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness, oppression through imperialism demonstrates how a
certain civilization, the Congolese, is affected negatively by imperialism. By focusing on Africa, it
allows for a graphic recount of the many years spent reigned by foreign oppressors and tyrannies. In
Heart of Darkness, the Congo is oppressed by the imperialists economically and geographically. As
well, the oppressed people are taken advantage of spiritually. Conrad describes how the ruling tyrant is
affected by the process of conquering a local people and this draws a parallel to the ruling empire.

The economic and geographic domination of an area for the benefit of another people directly affects
those already inhabiting the region. The conquering of a place and its people does not just affect the
land and its resources; it also affects those inhabiting it. Marlow describes the Congolese s spirituality
being oppressed, The conquest of the earth, which mostly means the taking is away from those who
have a different complexion of slightly flatter noses than ourselves, is not a pretty thing when you
look into it too much. (Conrad, 69). Marlow discusses his aunt s thoughts on the process, She talked
about weaning those ignorant millions from their horrid ways. He watches the Europeans using their
own laws to control and oppress the people of the Congo, for example, he sees an ugly chain gang at
the first station, which does not seem as though they are criminals. Nevertheless, the European law
had decided for the natives, Marlow describes, like shells from the man of war, like an insoluble
mystery from the sea. (Conrad, 12). The Congolese appointed to work on his ship, he describes as,
still belonging, to the beginnings of time, but as long as there was a piece of paper written over in
accordance with some farcical law or other made down the river, it didn t enter anybody s head to
trouble how they would live. (Conrad, 33 34). Skulls of then men judged by the European law were

Wachowiak Observation Report
On Tuesday, January 30th, Matt Wachowiak from Yale University gave a seminar on functional
imaging of the olfactory bulb in mice. He uses a fluorescent calcium sensitive dye to label the receptor
neurons in the nose; the dye is then transported to the terminals of those neurons in the olfactory bulb.
All of the receptor neurons that express receptors for a certain type of odor molecule send their axons
to the same localized structure within the olfactory bulb, called a glomerulus. By removing the skin
and bone above the olfactory bulb, he can use a sensitive camera to record real time changes in
fluorescence in particular glomeruli that correspond to activation of different receptor neuron types in
response to different odors. Dr. Wachowiak began these studies in turtles, ... Show more content on

Although an individual glomerulus may be activated by several odors, the relative levels of activation
of several glomeruli differ between odorants. As the concentration of the odorant increases, more
glomeruli are recruited to respond; however, the relative pattern of activation is usually maintained for
each odorant. Dr. Wachowiak also showed that there is a topographical map in the olfactory bulb such
that odorants belonging to a certain class of molecules tend to activate glomeruli in the same area of
the bulb, and this map is consistent across animals. Thus, it is possible to study the response to many
odor molecules in a large number of animals and collapse the data across subjects to obtain more
statistical power. In conclusion, this is an interesting technique that can be used to understand the
detailed mechanisms of first order olfactory perception in live animals. Dr. Wachowiak hopes to
continue this research by conducting psychophysical experiments to determine how well the mice
discriminate between odors, using genetically encoded probes of neural activity to selectively image
certain populations of glomeruli, and studying further steps of processing within the

Overview
GWL Roofing Limited (GWL) manufactures roofing materials, and installs and services roofs for
industrial, commercial, and investment (ICI) properties. GWL s head office and sole manufacturing
facility are located in eastern Quebec. In addition, GWL has distribution facilities located across
eastern Canada and the northeastern United States. The U.S. location houses the administrative
functions of GWL s wholly owned U.S. subsidiary, GWL Roofing U.S. Limited (GWL US).

In addition, GWL claims that its products are specifically designed to meet the demands of the harsh
winters experienced in Canada and in the northern United States. As a result, GWL s products tend to
be more expensive to manufacture than those produced by its competitors. GWL s roofs are
guaranteed against defects in materials for a period of 15 years by its warranty program.
GWL markets itself as a provider of roof management solutions. The cost of a roof over its useful life
of about 20 years can be quite substantial for ICI properties. Maintaining a high quality roof is
essential to the value of the property, as well as to the continuity of the operations housed by the
property. However, most maintenance managers employed to manage ICI properties by property
managers, manufacturers, and other organizations are generalists, and typically don t have extensive
knowledge of roofing problems and proper roofing maintenance procedures. GWL not only sells the
physical roof itself, but also offers its customers worry free roofing solutions.
In order to meet the growing demand for expertise in roof maintenance, in 1998, GWL began offering
its customers a Roof Management Program with respect to the roofs that it installs. According to this
program, the customer enters into a long term maintenance and servicing contract with GWL. The
customer makes an annual maintenance payment, and GWL takes care of all matters pertaining to the
customer s roof. The annual

I don t know why the alpha wanted me I was 5 5 and had brown hair with blonde highlights when out in the sun for long. It came to about my shoulders and would be longer if it wasn t curly. I had blue eyes and an average face. My best quality is my lips, they are full and pink. Howls encircled me as a black wolf jumped in front of me. He had a predatory look in his eyes but he didn t scare me. As I studied his features he just stood there looking back at me with his piercing blue eyes almost ice blue. He was mostly black with his toes on his left front and back, feet were white and his right front and back, feet had socks. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though not always are the reactions better for us, there are better responses than ones that can harm a person s body even more. For example, in the article A Path Out of Pain it tells others some reactions people go through, some reactions for people is they tense up and that person then holds that person s breath, freeze and/or ar frantic, or even make noises. It just all depends on the person. ( n.p.). This can tell people what kind of reactions that a person does and then learn, as well as try not to do it for it harms the body more than helps it. This is important for it then shows people that even a person s reaction will not always help the situation at hand. More evidence says, in A Path Out of Pain this Instead of reacting you could choose to respond. For example: instead of tensing up you could relax; instead of holding your breath you could breath gently; instead of changing your position constantly you could let yourself be still; and instead of making faces, holding, yourself or sighing, you could let the experience in and let pain be. ( n.p.). This demonstrates that people should do the things listed above so that anybody who is hurt does not harm the body part even more. This is significant because it can help people respond different than be angry. A person can feel calmer and at least a little relaxed for that person knows what to do. This tells people that how you react can hurt more, but some of the responses that were listed could help a person get through the pain that will come in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In In Pharaoh s Army, Tobias Wolff shows that the authorities are not always in the right place to make a decision. In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury has a different way of showing that the authorities aren t always right. In Fahrenheit 451, the authorities often lie to make their new reality easier for the community or people to cope with the situation. The quasi steady state treatment is used to obtain kinetic equations that can describe the nonmonotonic (with a maximum) dependences of the formation rates of the products on the concentration of free unsolvated formaldehyde. The experimental concentration of the free unsolvated form of formaldehyde are given at the different temperatures, solvent permittivity, and total concentrations of formaldehyde in water and alcohols. An empirical equation for calculating the free formaldehyde concentration in alcohol formaldehyde (including water/ethanediol formaldehyde) systems at various temperatures and total formaldehyde concentrations and an equation for evaluating solvent concentrations in these systems were derived. Barak Lost Link With The Natural World During a world literature class, we watched a film called Baraka, which was cinematically beautiful and restored within me this lost link with the natural world. It was a compilation of footage of people and places all over the world, spliced together to form this story of the lives we lead in this modern world. The film juxtaposed the hectic environment of the machinery that drives the mass production of consumer goods with footage of serene Japanese snow monkeys relaxing in hot spring baths. This to me represented how unnatural the world filled with technology and mass consumption in which we live really is and how it fares poorly when compared with the natural world. It caught my eye that too often as human beings we are caught up in the motions of life. As I was watching, I was undergoing a self realization that we forget that we have some other purpose in life besides our monotonous routines. We aren t just some specks under the sprawling skyscrapers and cities, we must retain our bond with nature. Baraka presented these subliminal images that I could easily develop into connections to my life. The film illustrated the being of nature that exists around us and how indiscreetly we human beings are becoming forgetful of it. Ashley Wisniewski Mrs. Synder English III 17 November 2017 Flower Jade Palace Famous Chinese Poet, Tu Fu advocates appreciating the loveliness one could be surrounded by while it exists because he believes beauty may not earn its deserved value. The poet was born into a life of wealth and familial connections until his life was changed by a rebellion in 755. When the T ang dynasty s days of glory came to an end, the artist spent his days on the road. Towards the end of his life, Tu Fu was in poor health and suffering from many hardships. Tu Fu s poems reflected his life; he did not appreciate the luscious life he had until it was gone, and Tu Fu s work was not appreciated until he passed away (Elements of Literature 873). Three principal elements required to create a MATLAB Graphical User Interface. The elements are components, figures, callbacks. 1. Components Each item on a GUI is a graphical component. The types of components include graphical controls (pushbuttons, radio buttons, edit boxes, lists, sliders, etc.), static elements (frames and text strings), menus, and axes. Graphical controls and static elements are created by the functions and axes are used to display graphical data which is created by the function axes. 2. Figures The components of a GUI must be arranged within a figure, which is a window on the computer screen. 3. Callbacks Finally, there must be some way to perform an action if a user clicks on a button. A mouse click or a key press is an event, and the MATLAB program must respond to each event if the program is to perform its function. The code executed in response to an event is known as a call back. There must be a callback to implement the function of each graphical component on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. The 2nd Vatican Council Essay The 2nd Vatican Council Starting with the First Council of Nicaea in 325 the Catholic Church established a tradition of ecumenical Council meetings to help decide on and shape the future of the Church. The most recent Council, called Vatican II, is considered to be both the largest ever in scope and also the most ground breaking in the amount of change it yielded. The changes in doctrine, dogma and procedure they enacted had major effects both inside and outside the Catholic Church and continue to today. Before the Vatican II the Catholic Church was an aging dinosaur, still crippled by the Reformation and unable to relate to contemporary man. It emerged from it a modern Church, tolerant and accepting of other religions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That alone doubled the amount of documents created by the previous twenty councils combined. Many were concerned that when the council officially began it would be so weighed down by the breadth of its task that the bishops would be unable to make changes significant to the contemporary man. That concern would soon be dispelled. In recent times, the Curia had grown very confident in their authority over the rest of the Church s bishops since the decree of papal infallibility made at the 1st Vatican Council. They expected the rest of the church s leaders to arrive in Rome and essentially rubber stamp their decisions. However, despite the Curia s attempts to keep it hidden there was a great deal of discontent in the church. That was illustrated by the thousands of submittals that were sent to the church for possible inclusion in the council. On the first day of meetings during the first session in October 11th 1962 it became clear that real introspection would be inevitable and that the Curia would not be placidly followed. Cardinal Lieneat of France and Cardinal Frings of Germany took the first step by successful challenging the pre selection of the members of the ten committees that would be in control the council voice. Once that happened, the assembled leaders and the world at large knew that this would be more than a rubber stamp council. That first session lasted until December 8th and did not end with any documents approved or consensus found. Of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Book Thief Theme Alexis Javier Mrs. Rosenwasser English 9H October 13, 2014 The Book Thief by Markus Zusak The Book Thief is a text set in Germany during the time of World War II, focused on the life of the protagonist, Liesel Meminger. Liesel, a young German girl, loses her family including her brother Werner who died on a train on the way to Munich. She comprehends the feeling of loss and pain and is conscious that she is existing in hard times. The narrator of the story, Death, witnesses her brother s demise and kneels down to extract the boy s soft and cold spirit as Liesel shakes Werner in an attempt to resuscitate him (Zusak 21). However, one interesting theme is forming ties with others. In Liesel s journey, she meets many people, exclusively through her love of books and words. For instance, Liesel and her foster father, Hans Hubermann, did not have a strong bond with each other. It was evident that Liesel did not want to be with Rosa and Hans Hubermann. Later on, Liesel would have to deal with the constant remarks of Saumensch, Saukerl, or Arschloch by Rosa. On the other hand, she became more comfortable living with them because of reading and learning words from The Grave Digger s Handbook. Hans and Liesel establish a deeper and more involved relationship with these books. For example, Hans and Liesel study the alphabet which shows their bond developing. [Hans] patted the girl s hair. She d fallen into his trap. With a smile like that, you don t need eyes. He hugged her and then looked again at the picture, with a face of warm silver. Now for T (68). Moreover, Hans gifted Liesel with books for her birthday such as The Mud Men, which intensified their relationship even more. Based on this evidence, it is palpable that Hans and Liesel s bond strengthened through books and words from the moment of Liesel s arrival through the end of their ... • 33. African American Literature Reflection Paper Before starting this class, African American Literature, I wasn t too sure what to expect. I had never taken an AFAS class before but I had heard great things from my friends so I decided to take one. Professor Carter was an amazing professor and always sounded to extremely passionate and excited during class which I found very admirable. The way he spoke about the different aspects of the class and the different pieces of writing was very intriguing and always held my attention in class. We read a variety of African American literature in this class which included novels, poems, and short stories and each and every one of them related perfectly to what we were talking about during that time in class. We studied different authors and their writing styles, as well as different eras including the Harlem Renaissance. The thing that set this class apart from the rest was the use of multimedia in the class. This included the weekly voice threads, the live videos each class period, and the multimedia projects throughout the semester. This was my favorite part of the class. I loved how the professor didn t just want us to express our opinions of the literature in projects, but he wanted us to express our opinions in the most creative ways. We were assigned weekly voice threads which allowed us to answer several questions based off of our own opinions of the readings we read for class. Personally, I loved this because I felt like I could proudly share what I felt about the reading ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Essay on Imperialism- Conrad s Heart of Darkness Imperialism and its oppressive processes have affected societies as well as individual lives for centuries. In Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness, oppression through imperialism demonstrates how a certain civilization, the Congolese, is affected negatively by imperialism. By focusing on Africa, it allows for a graphic recount of the many years spent reigned by foreign oppressors and tyrannies. In Heart of Darkness, the Congo is oppressed by the imperialists economically and geographically. As well, the oppressed people are taken advantage of spiritually. Conrad describes how the ruling tyrant is affected by the process of conquering a local people and this draws a parallel to the ruling empire. Conrad, through his novel, attempts to ... The conquering of a place and its people does not just affect the land and its resources; it also affects those inhabiting it. Marlow describes the Congolese s spirituality being oppressed, The conquest of the earth, which mostly means the taking is away from those who have a different complexion of slightly flatter noses than ourselves, is not a pretty thing when you look into it too much. (Conrad, 69). Marlow discusses his aunt s thoughts on the process, She talked about weaning those ignorant millions from their horrid ways. He watches the Europeans using their own laws to control and oppress the people of the Congo, for example, he sees an ugly chain gang at the first station, which does not seem as though they are criminals. Nevertheless, the European law had decided for the natives, Marlow describes, like shells from the man of war, like an insoluble mystery from the sea. (Conrad, 12). The Congolese appointed to work on his ship, he describes as, still belonging, to the beginnings of time, but as long as there was a piece of paper written over in accordance with some farcical law or other made down the river, it didn t enter anybody s head to trouble how they would live. It s location is further south than the more urban suburbs allowing drivers to pass by Reagan Airport, Alexandria neighborhoods, and Arlington, America s most commuter friendly suburb, en route to this destination. Silver Spring is a great test market for Destinations because of its proximity to Reagan and BWI, and the majority of commuters (47.9%) who travel to DC and back. • 36. Wachowiak Observation Report On Tuesday, January 30th, Matt Wachowiak from Yale University gave a seminar on functional imaging of the olfactory bulb in mice. He uses a fluorescent calcium sensitive dye to label the receptor neurons in the nose; the dye is then transported to the terminals of those neurons in the olfactory bulb. All of the receptor neurons that express receptors for a certain type of odor molecule send their axons to the same localized structure within the olfactory bulb, called a glomerulus. By removing the skin and bone above the olfactory bulb, he can use a sensitive camera to record real time changes in fluorescence in particular glomeruli that correspond to activation of different receptor neuron types in response to different odors. Dr. Wachowiak began these studies in turtles, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although an individual glomerulus may be activated by several odors, the relative levels of activation of several glomeruli differ between odorants. As the concentration of the odorant increases, more glomeruli are recruited to respond; however, the relative pattern of activation is usually maintained for each odorant. Dr. Wachowiak also showed that there is a topographical map in the olfactory bulb such that odorants belonging to a certain class of molecules tend to activate glomeruli in the same area of the bulb, and this map is consistent across animals. Thus, it is possible to study the response to many odor molecules in a large number of animals and collapse the data across subjects to obtain more statistical power. In conclusion, this is an interesting technique that can be used to understand the detailed mechanisms of first order olfactory perception in live animals. Dr. Wachowiak hopes to continue this research by conducting psychophysical experiments to determine how well the mice discriminate between odors, using genetically encoded probes of neural activity to selectively image certain populations of glomeruli, and studying further steps of processing within the ... GWL s roofs are guaranteed against defects in materials for a period of 15 years by its warranty program. GWL markets itself as a provider of roof management solutions. The cost of a roof over its useful life of about 20 years can be quite substantial for ICI properties.
