The Handmaid
This prayvanganza is a group wedding. Twenty men known as Angels are to be married, and twenty
white veiled girls enter. They are the daughters of the Wives. The marriages are all arranged. They are
married to the angels. People in the whole districts had come to attend this ceremony including the
Econowives, the Marthas, the Hanmaids and the Wives. Their seats are arranged according to their
rankings. The area for the Handmaids is separated by ropes: our area is cordoned off with a silky
twisted scarlet rope, this rope segregate us, marks us off, keeps the others from contamination by us,
makes us a corral or pen; so into it we go, arranging ourselves in rows, which we know very well how
to do, kneeling then on the floor. (247) This visually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ofglen and Offed position themselves to the back of the group so that they can more freely whisper to
each other. Once placed Ofglen reveals that the baby of Janine, Angela, was a shredder : It was no
good, you know, Ofglen says near the side of my head. It was a shredder after all. (248) By shredder,
in my opinion, it implies that something went wrong about the baby and the baby did not make it or it
is deformed and not sufficient enough for the society. It was hard to say whether Offred feels remorse
or triumph for Janine. Offred started to think about Janine s shoes: that s terrible, I say. It s like Janine
though to take it upon herself, to decide the baby s flaws were due to her alone. But people will do
anything rather than admit that their lives have no meaning. (249) Both Janine and Offred are
handmaids, after all, and giving birth to an healthy child is the same wish of them. Offred seems to
find in Janine an object of both pity and revulsion. While she is in the same position as the other
women at the Center, she seems to crave attention and behave differently from the others: she had
another child, once, I know that from the Center, when she used to cry about it at night, like the rest of
us only more noisily (144). Janine seems to cry more noisily than the other mothers who have lost
children as if to outdo them, as if her grief is more real or important. But now she had just lost her
newborn child and lost her glow of pregnant and anything she

Viva La Vida And The Count Of Monte Cristo
While each piece of literature is completely different, some of them have similar patterns and ideas.
One of these ideas would be human nature. Human nature is anything that is natural for a human to do
and can not be stopped easily. Things like greed and too much power can change someone greatly.
This can be the cause of many problems and can make someone who is a good person into a bad
person. In Viva La Vida and The Count of Monte Cristo, the writers use of allusions and metaphors
convey the idea that human nature can be the cause of misfortune.
The story of Viva La Vida, by Coldplay, is about a king who has too much power and ends up being
overthrown from people in his kingdom. Coldplay expresses this story in metaphors.
I used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This king had the key to the castle, meaning that he knew what the people wanted. The way Coldplay
explains this story makes it seem like the people living in the king s castle turned on him, hence the
reference to the walls closing in on himself. This king must have been hated for something he did,
then again, every human makes mistakes. Although, this must not have been the first time because he
lost his whole castle just from a mistake. Then he starts to realize why he was wrong. The downfall of
this king could have been from bragging about his power too much since it is human nature to brag.
Or possibly being overwhelmed with too much power giving his enemies a chance to attack. Another
metaphor with the same meaning can be found in The Count of Monte Cristo. The same thing that
happened to Brutus the night before the Battle of Philippi: I saw a ghost. And that ghost told me I have
lived long enough (Dumas 381). At this moment in the story, the count is preparing for his duel with
Albert. He then tells Maximilien that he plans on dying during the duel and leaving Maximilien his
will. Maximilien is shocked and asks the count why he would ever do such a thing. The count
responds with the above quote. This quote is a metaphor and shows how it is in a human s nature to
want to forget the people who you don t like. This quote uses the example of Mercedes since she was
the ghost that came to Dantes the night before the duel and begged him not to kill her son. Dantes
responds by saying that he can not live with the dishonor of backing away from a duel, so he agreed to
let Albert

Analyzing Maus A Survivor s Tale
Art Spiegelman s Maus II A Survivor s Tale, is a well known graphic novel that depicted the
holocaust. Rewriting a story about the holocaust in the form of a graphic novel or comic as some
might describe it, probably seemed unusual and childish. Comics and graphic novels were seen as
lacking the educational equivalent people would refer to when researching or reading about that
specific point in history. Having a large amount of books relating to the holocaust over the years has
only made it repetitive because we are aware of Auschwitz and its terrible events. Art Spiegelman did
a fantastic job in retelling the story of his father s survival in Auschwitz. He also shows the reader his
unique relationship with his father. Maus not only shares ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spiegelman helped portray Vladek s experience with diagrams of the camps, crematorium plans, an
actual photo of Vladek and a manual for repairing shoes. By using these visual aids in the novel, it
helped the reader to have a better historical understanding of the context and a face to his father s
name. It also assisted the reader in imagining a setting where this all took place. For example, in
chapter two, page 60 we see the diagram of Vladek explaining to the readers how he fixed boots and
considered himself a shoemaker. Here we can see the quick thinking that he used to get himself out a
situation that could have turned sour for the most part. He used his judgement and resourcefulness to
assist him against the German soldiers and turned himself into an asset for them. On page 61 on the
bottom right corner we see how his talents in repairing shoes also rewarded him with food. On page
64 in the top middle panel, shows us the diagram of what types of things Vladek would save to trade
for food or vodka. He explains to Art that he would save his cigarettes to trade for one portion of day s
bread in order to send it to his mother Anja to keep her alive. Vladek also worked with a number of his
fellow Jews in order to survive. Without the support of each other, very few wouldn t have endured
Auschwitz and the holocaust. In chapter three, page 86 we are shown the Jews packed into a

INTRODUCTION
According to Beilby, Apologetics is, in its simplest possible terms, the attempt to defend a particular
belief or system of beliefs against objections. Caner considers experiential apologetics one of the five
traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The entire concept of sharing one s testimony is subjective. A believer can tell someone about their
horrible past, but if they did not know the believer before they were a believer, the testimony could
fall flat. Additionally, it is an non provable method, since it is a personal feeling or experience the
person is describing, not concrete proof. Finally, there is an issue with duplication by other religions,
meaning that other religious believers have a testimony and experience to share, as well. Relying
solely on the experiential apologetics leaves the apologist open to a myriad of problems with proof
and deniability of their testimony.
CONCLUSION
Experiential apologetics proposes that knowledge of God and his grace has to come from a personal
experience which then leads to acceptance of God s truth expressed in the Scriptures. This personal
experience may come from a testimony of a believer to an unbeliever, or through direct experience of
a non believer causing them to become a believer. While several proponents of this method have
developed different interpretations of the form over time, the basic principle still remains valid that a
shared experience can help to save a lost soul. Although experiential apologetics are considered one of
the personal and intimate forms of apologetics, it is also considered one of the weakest forms due to

Mark Twain s Cannibalism In The Cars
Mark Twain is one of Americas most humorous writers, stories of his such as; How To Tell a Story
(Source A) and Cannibalism In the Cars (Source B) are both great examples of how he creates such
humor in his writing. Twain uses a wide variety of devices in his stories, such as apostrophe,
hypophora, and personification. Here are some examples of how Twain integrates these devices into
his writing, and how they create such a humorous effect. In the short story Cannibalism In the Cars ,
Twain describes a group of politicians that are trapped inside a train. As the story progresses, they eat
each other off one by one, symbolizing how men in high power resort to eating each other alive rather
than find a solution that could save them all. To go along with this satirical piece, Twain throws in
some well played rhetorical devices as well; one of such being personification. Twain describes how
the snow starts piling up and how it ...extended its depressing influence over every spirit (Source B),
until eventually ...every soul leaped (Source B). This device goes hand in hand with Twains rule that a
humorous story is told ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After several days without food on the train, the men become ravishingly hungry, until one brave soul
asks the audience which of us shall die to furnish food for the rest! (Source B). With this question,
another question emerges. The reader might ask what does he mean by that? or wonder if he means
who will go out and find food for the rest . Even when the speaker describes something Lean , Tough
along with the speaker saying he was very tough (Source B). This also brings the reader to ask what
the speaker means by that. From this device, Twain is able to string incongruities and absurdities
together (Source A), without giving anything away. This device brings up questions the next device

Complications Of The French Revolution
The French Revolution (1789 1799) had significant, far reaching implications. In Britain it permeated
every level of society. Not only did politicians change their allegiances, but moderate reformers were
radicalised, and British society was completely divided into supporters and detractors of the
Revolution. It also resulted in a drastic politicisation of Ireland, changing the nature of politics
completely. The British government was threatened by the French Revolution because they saw what
was happening in France and saw the beginnings of the process in their own country. The prospect of
a revolution of that scale in Britain was unthinkable and something had to be done.
The initial reaction to the French Revolution in Britain was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The ideological issues raised by the French Revolution served as a catalyst for British domestic
politics subsequently leading to the development of a Tory Party in Britain as those who followed
Burke followed him to William Pitt the Younger who established the first Tory government. Pitt s
initial lacklustre reaction to the Revolution had changed rapidly with the growth of radicalism in
Britain, especially after Thomas Paine published his Rights of Man in 1791, condemning it as a
monstrous doctrine . This new Tory government that had been established was much less tolerant of
reformers in a time where radical reformers were far more common and were feeding off the energy of
the French Revolution.
In the 1770s, a movement for parliamentary reform began in Britain under the leadership of middle
class men such as John Cartwright and Christopher Wyvill. When the Revolution in France began in
1789 this movement began to grow rapidly, and an atmosphere of revolutionary fervour spread across
Britain, inspiring reformers. In many ways the French Revolution acted as a template of reform to
radicals and reformers across Britain and Europe. When the propaganda of the French Revolution
began to reach the masses of Britain in 1792 the situation worsened for the British government as
interest in radical societies spiked. At times during the 1790s, there were incidents of rebellion that
were of a similar degree of

What Are The Benefits Of Factory Farming
Factory Farming Has to Go Twenty decades ago, livestock farmers used to breed their animals in the
traditional way where their farm animals were let loose over a large area of farm and allowed to
reproduce naturally. Over recent years, a new system of rearing livestock has come into existence
which is more popularly known as Factory Farming. Factory Farming makes use of extremely
intensive procedures through the use of which poultry, cattle and other livestock are kept indoors
under rigid controlled settings. Since this technique has gained much popularity into how food is
being produced in America, it is also one of the most debated and controversial concepts. While it is
true that using this modern method to produce meat and dairy one can expect greater productivity at a
swifter rate, the question still remains at what cost? Food manufacturers in America claim that Factory
Farming is a much cheaper way of processing meat and other food items where they are able to
increase their margins as well as provide the consumers with cheaper food. However, current research
on the effects of factory farming suggests that the method is one of the best examples of animal
cruelty (Park). The conditions that the animals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the primary cons of factory farming is that the breeding of cattle in unnatural, unsanitary and
artificial settings along with the injection of additives and antibiotics, greatly lessens the quality of the
food produced. The antibiotics can even harm the human body as the body learns to produces
antibiotic resistant cells (Miller). Harm to human health has time and time again been stressed as an
effect of factory farming. The cattle and poultry can breed diseases staying in a small and filthy space
which has a high chance of being passed on and contaminating

Food Productivity And Its Impact On The United States Essay
Meanwhile, another 3 billion people are going to need somewhere to live. By 2050, 70% of us are
going to be living in cities. This century will see the rapid expansion of cities, as well as the
emergence of entirely new cities that do not yet exist. It s worth mentioning that of the 19 Brazilian
cities that have doubled in population in the past decade, 10 are in the Amazon. All this is going to use
yet more land.
We currently have no known means of being able to feed 10 billion of us at our current rate of
consumption and with our current agricultural system. Indeed, simply to feed ourselves in the next 40
years, we will need to produce more food than the entire agricultural output of the past 10,000 years
combined. Yet food productivity is set to decline, possibly very sharply, over the coming decades due
to climate change; soil degradation and desertification, both of which are increasing rapidly in many
parts of the world; and water stress. By the end of this century, large parts of the planet will not have
any usable water.
At the same time, the global shipping and airline sectors are projected to continue to expand rapidly
every year, transporting more of us, and more of the stuff we want to consume, around the planet year
on year. That is going to cause enormous problems for us in terms of more CO2 emissions, more black
carbon, and more pollution from mining and processing to make all this stuff.
But think about this. In transporting us and our stuff all over the

Factors Of The Force Reduction Factor From The Statistical...
4.6.2 Krawinkler and Nassar (1992)
A relationship was developed for the force reduction factor derived from the statistical analysis of 15
western USA ground motions with magnitude between 5.7 and
7.7 (Krawinkler and Nassar, 1992).
C is constant which is dependent on period (T) and α which is the strain hardening parameter of the
hysteretic model and a and b are regression constants.
4.6.3 Miranda and Bertero (1994)
The equation for reduction factor introduced by Miranda and Bertero (1994) was obtained from a
study of 124 ground motions recorded on a wide range of soil conditions. The soil conditions were
classified as rock, alluvium and very soft sites 41 characterized by low shear wave velocity. A 5% of
critical damping was assumed. The expressions for the period dependent force reduction factors Rµ
are given by

There Is No Me Without You Tone
A person s capability is often limitless when his or her heart is drawn towards a certain matter. In her
memoir, There is No Me Without You, novelist and journalist, Melissa Fay Greene gives a candid
insight on one woman s odyssey to rescue Africa s children. Greene successfully creates a sympathetic
tone in order to stress the urgencies of the conditions for children in Africa living with AIDs and the
difficult lives that they face through the usage of rhetorical questions and pathos. Similarly, irony is
used to emphasize the ingratitude of the children despite Haregewoin s best efforts take care of them.

As the children grow, they become more demanding and expectant of Haregewoin, who had become
the maternal figure in their life and lose the grateful heart they once had. Despite everything
Haregewoin has done for these children, [t]hey say, Haregewoin does not help us. (332). It is ironic
that the children express so much ungratefulness after all the sacrifices and efforts that Haregewoin
has made to ensure that the African orphans have a better life. The insistence of Haregewoin s children
conveys a dramatic change in tone as the story transitions from an aspect of positivity and hope in
Haregewoin s journey to save the orphaned children to Harwegewoin s desperate attempt to win back
the hearts of the African children. Greene reveals an unlikely outcome of the years of sacrifice made
by Haregewoin to protect and love the ungrateful children through the abruptly ungrateful attitudes of
the orphans towards the only mother they have ever known.
Throughout Melissa Fay Greene s memoir, There is No Me Without You, feelings of sympathy are
invoked which in effect, causes readers to appreciate what they have, and are educated on a world
beyond their capacity. Rhetorical questions and pathos is used to stir sympathy within readers for the
African orphans with AIDs while irony is used to contradict the efforts and sacrifices of Haregewoin
for the children. Greene successfully creates a tone of sympathy and compels readers during her
memoir of a journey to save the orphans of

Coming Of Age Story Analysis
The stories the Rocking Horse Winner and Araby are an example of coming of age. The Araby story
was from a narrator that used his childhood experience while he is growing up and falling in love
Mangans sister. The narrator grew up in a quiet neighborhood And attended a Christian Brothers
school. The boy lived with his aunt and uncle. In the house they lived in, their was a priest that had
passed away in one of the rooms. One of the narrators favorite experiences was when he would scram
through things that had been left behind in the house. This story was a coming of age story not really
because he went from a young boy to a growing adult, but because the maturity in the story. He grew

unpleasant reality life of Paul. Paul has always presumed he could predict the racehorse winners
which he thought brought him great luck. As Paul starts making money off of what he is doing, he gets
into some fame, and his luck starts to run out, and literally starts to kill him. The family then is left
with all the money. Honestly, is money ever worth more then someone s life? This was also a coming
of age story because it expresses the tension on what we think and how we feel, which comes with the
maturity of the story. Paul of the prominence of the coming of age is the success Paul attained. The

What Is The Estimation Of The Forest Femining Methods
With increase in the amount, quality and accessibility of the remote sensing data on one hand, and
advancement, ease of use and capability of the open source machine learning and statistical tools, on
the other hand, machine learning approaches have become very popular and powerful methods for
estimation of the forest biomass in the recent years. cite{Iftikhar}
By far, linear regression is the most well understood algorithm in statistics and machine learning
compared to any other machine learning tools. Table 2 summarizes the studies that has been done on
estimation of the biomass using LiDAR techniques.

There are several ways to select the best features. cite{Thomas}. Also, it has been shown that
selection of the number of the features for classification, neighbors and the predictors are very
deterministic in the quality of the classification cite{NLi}.
Random Forest (RF) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) are two machine learning approaches that
has been successfully implemented in several studies and resulted in the significantly better results
compared to KNN or other regression models. For example, in the study by Fassnacht et
al.cite{Fassnacht 2014} using LiDAR and Hyperspectral data, it has been shown that RF model
produce a better forest aboveground biomass prediction compared to other tested methods.
RF is the ensemble classification technique based on the many random decision trees classifiers.
Decision tree is the classification approach that relate the target point to the predictor based on the
simple decision criteria. Decision tree can easily become unstable and result in the very complex
decision boundaries, therefore Random forests are used to improve the accuracy of the prediction and
also controls the over fitting cite{Thomas}. It has been shown that a large number of features can be
handled by RF cite{Liai}. RF also, has been reported to have higher accuracy in predicting biomass

the pixel domain. Detection of the watermark can be done by correlating the pixels values with
expected pixel values. The drawbacks of this technique is limited information embedded, less resistant
to noise and compression and less robust to geometric attacks. These techniques are abandoned
recently[17]. Some common spatial domain algorithms include Least Significant
Bit(LSB)Modification, Patchwork, Texture Block Coding, Correlation based, SSM modulation based
etc. The most commonly used algorithm is LSB.
1) Least Significant bit(LSB)
LSB which replaces the least significant bits of pixels selected to hide the information. In this example
only the least significant bit of each pixel will be used for embedding information. If the pixel ... Show

A remarkable feature of this technique is the high robustness to any kind of distortion, since both
image areas are distorted in a similar way, which means that the watermark recovery by
autocorrelation still works [23].
B. Transform domain
Transform domain method takes advantage of properties of alternate domains by modifying transform
coefficients to support additional features. Transform domain method is divided into frequency
domain and wavelet domain.
1) Frequency domain
In frequency domain, we insert watermark into the coefficients of a transformed image[24] and then
watermarked image is inverted to obtain image in spatial domain.[24] The approaches used in
frequency domain are JPEGbased[ 25],spread spectrum [26],[27] and content based approaches
[28].Frequency image transformations include the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT), Discrete Cosine
Transform (DCT) and others.
a) Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT)
Fourier transform is a powerful tool for analyzing the components of a stationary signal (signal in
which there is no change in the properties of signal) [29]. It is a powerful tool for processing signals
that are composed of some combination of sine and cosine signals (sinusoids) [30]. Fourier
coefficients have two components phase and magnitude[31]. One of the main advantage of DFT is that
it is rotation, Translation and scaling invariant which helps it in recovering from geometrical
distortions. Licks algorithm [32] is one example.

Being a freshman at Regis is not easy, due to are already at a disadvantage of not having your car on
campus; thus, a reliable source of transportation is a losing battle. Although we have a shuttle that
brings us to and from Riverside and the Natick Mall the scheduled times are not beneficial. Regis
should have the shuttle be more accessible to students more frequently. As a freshman who is not
allowed to have a car on campus I find it inconvenient that the shuttle to the Natick Mall comes every
three to five hours.
A major aspect of a college education is students learning independence and freedom; therefore
creating a schedule at the students disposal will allow them to learn that independence and gain that
freedom.

As stated, Framingham State has shuttles that stop at multiple locations, which allows students to
explore their surrounding community. Besides going to Natick Mall and Riverside Train Station, the
Regis shuttle should include AMC Theater, Shopper s World, and Target. Many would argue that
AMC Theater is very close in distance to the Natick Mall, and may ask why the passengers of the
shuttle cannot walk to the theater? An intersection similar to the one behind the mall can get busy and
is very dangerous at night if one is not careful. Adding Shopper s World being added as a destination
shuttle s route would be beneficial to the students taking it because there are so many stores in the
shopping area. Therefore, it would limit the amount of time and money a student will spend on going
to multiple stores via uber or public transportation. Another location that the shuttle should go to is
Target; target is a store that every college student should have at their disposal, since it is a store that
has everything a college student uses in their daily lives. Another flaw in Regis transportation system
is that the shuttle does not come to and from Regis frequent enough. Although Framingham State has
a bigger population, their shuttle comes frequent enough to support all of its students. The
inconvenient times our Regis shuttle is available is at times where it is difficult for students to enjoy a

Metaphors Of Ephesians 1
In Ephesians 1 verse 11 it means that if you are a believer, God has assigned you to His chosen life.
That we have been chosen as Gods portion and He has appointed you to Himself. It also means that
God has chosen us as His inheritance. This is one of the many blessings which we have as believers.
God does this according to His purpose and His will. God is never forced by anyone or anything
outside of Him. Everything is under His control and is part of His plan. Every flower and plant God
controls its birth, it s growth and its death. Laws such as gravity and physics are under His control.
God never makes mistakes! He is in control of all creation and nothing is by chance. There is nothing
outside of His control. When I read this verse, it means to me that I was planned to be on this Earth,
by God. I was thought about even before my mom and dad were born. That God picked my mom and
dad just for me. God has a plan for my life and I should be looking for His will in my life and to live
it. God controls everything that happens to me and will happen to me. God knows my future and my
destiny. Ephesians 1 verse 12 talks about Gods work of the Father. God does everything for a purpose
and to glorify Himself. God does this so that all created beings and events will bring him glory. God is

Ambiguity In Shakespeare s Julius Caesar
Introduction
Overall, the main character, Julius Caesar is a character that readers are often very ambiguous about.
On one hand, it is said that Julius Caesar would likely become a tyrant if he was crowned king. On the
other hand, Julius Caesar is made out to be a great hero. Therefore, readers are faced with a dilemma
about who they should side with in this story. By having many of the supporting characters going
against the decision to crown Julius Caesar king, this creates an even larger dilemma for readers. If a
man s own friends are against him, is there any way that he could good? By creating these scenes of
ambiguity in Julius Caesar, Shakespeare is able to lead readers to feel indifferent about the main
character in the story as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The oblivious nature of Julius Caesar during these exchanges adds to the ambiguity of the event by
hinting that he is unaware that all of his conspirators are against him. Right before his murder, Julius
Caesar says: I could be well moved, if I were as you: If I could pray to move, prayers would move me:
But I am constant as the norther star, Of whose true fix d and resting quality There is no fellow in this
firmament. The skies are painted with unnumber d sparks, They are all fire and every one doth shine,
But there s but one in all doth hold his place: So in the world; tis furnish d well with men, And men
are flesh and blood, and apprehensive; Yet in the number I do know but one That unassailable holds
on his rank, Unshaked of motion: and that I am he, Let me a little show it, even in this; That I was
constant Cimber should be banish d, And constant do remain to keep him so (III.i.1263 78)
This speech helps erase some of the ambiguity from the scene and cements the idea that Caesar must
be assassinated, because there is no other way he is going to go. He spends all of these lines saying
that he basically sticks to his guns and will not change his mind about the banishment. This displays
some of his dictator like tendencies. Saying these lines clearly did not help his cause and likely
confirmed that the conspirators must do what they have to do.

Analysis Of Literary Modernism
Literary modernism was a reaction against realism which was developed to depict real rural life
(Campbell, 2017). As people begun to relocate to city areas many writers and artist took to redefining
the meaning of a realistic life. It was believed that one way of life no longer fit for everyone and
modernism introduced literature and art that began to question and show various perspectives of life.
Peter Childs explains that modernist writing plunges the reader into confusing and difficult mental
landscape which cannot be immediately understood... (Childs 15). Uncommon poetry and prose
stemmed from this modernist development. A popular one being Nella Larsen s Passing, which

As there was a rapid change in normal modernist literature searched for new realities and discerned
what was unreal within them. The novel Passing serves as an example that encompasses and illustrates
what Childs refers to as the modernist creation of the tradition of the new . Nella Larsen s Passing was
published in 1929, it was narrated by Irene Redfield as she reunites with a childhood acquaintance that
is African American but passes as a white woman in all areas of her life. Clare, Irene s acquaintance,
who passes as white explores the uncertainty of reality as she steps into the lifestyles of an African
American during the Harlem Renaissance, and Irene also explores her own uncertainty. Though many
critics have stated that race in the novel is mainly to serve as a source of suspense. I agree with
Jennifer Brody the author of Clare Kendry s True Colors, that race is the forefront issue within the
story and it is related to issues of class and sexuality (1). Passing erupted a fascination of the realities
of passing characters both in black and white characters. Revealing the interest of ambiguity that
many African Americans faced during this time period. The author of Nella Larsen s biography argues
that the main characters are not completely opposite but are especially meant to be developed as

David s Bridal Beaded Lace Night
When you immerse yourself in the world of wedding dress styles, it s unlikely that you really grasped
the difference between mermaid silhouettes and trumpet. The difference is so subtle, that unless you re
a dress designer, you might not know. That s completely understandable, and we re here to educate
you! Mermaid dresses are tight throughout the bodice, down the the hips and the thighs. The dress
begins to flare below the knees. If you think of a mermaid and her fins, you ll get the basic shape. The
trumpet dress is tight down to the middle of the thighs. The dress can flare around the hip, below the
crease of the buttocks, or around mid thigh. It really is such a subtle difference in silhouettes that we ll
forgive you for not knowing.

The plunging v neck bodice with wide straps is covered in stunning lace details that bring an elegance

Rather, a Gantt chart treats each activity as if it were independent of the others, which of course is not
really the case. For this reason, Gantt charts are better suited for systems implementation projects that
are not complex and have relatively few interrelationships among implementation activities. (p.436)
It helps to look at the software as a framework that can be modified in hundreds of different ways to
support your organization s culture. If you have a disciplined organization with projects that are well
defined and stable, you can implement many system capabilities relatively quickly to streamline and
simplify formerly manual processes. However, if your organization is new to the field of project
management, you might have to introduce system features in several phases so that the learning curve
is not too steep. Another factor, which could be considered in planning the scope and phasing of your
implementation are the history and type of project. (informit.com) There are so many different types
of project management software that runs on desktop or notebook computers can perform these tasks
easily and quickly, can enable a project leader to plan and control implementation tasks, and can help
a team install a new system on time and within budget. Examples of project management software

Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia Essay
Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia (WM), also known as lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma, is a type of
low grade non Hodgkin lymphoma characterized by bone marrow infiltration with lymphomasmacytic
cells. WM was named after Jan Waldenstrom, a Swedish doctor who came across the disease and
labeled the disorder in 1944. It is an incurable, rare disease affecting 1 in 3 million people with a
medial life span of 5 9 years after it is diagnosed. The cause of this disease is unknown but recent
indications and research show that the cause can be due to changes in the DNA. Age and gender are
the main factors with most occurrences in men over 50. WM s cancer cells are similar to multiple
myeloma except that WM has lymphocyte features that are not present in multiple ... Show more

Prognosis is influenced by factors such as how advanced the disease is at diagnosis, and how rapidly it
is advancing. Effective treatments are traditional chemotherapy agents such as chlorambucil,
cyclophosphamide and melphalan. These can be given as a single agent or combination with others
such as rituximab. This monoclonal antibody has been found to be effective. Because WM is a rare
disease, there are minimal research trials to support this disease. But none the less, there are clinical
trials available. Ongoing research has introduced new therapies including inhibitors and alkylating
agents. These ongoing clinical trials have shown that when compared to conventional chemotherapy
agents, can not only treat the symptoms of the disease, but also continue to further medicine s
knowledge as to patient s prognosis while providing patients increased therapeutic efficacy, longer
remissions and most important, a better quality of life. Stem cell transplant is also an option. This
process involves removal of blood forming stem cells which are restored to the patient following
chemotherapy treatment while the transplanted cells return to the bone marrow and produce new
blood cells. Another option for patients with a swollen spleen is the removal of the spleen. This would

Athletes Use Drugs For A Variety Of Reasons
Athletes use drugs for a variety of reasons, such as coping with stress or to enhance their quality of
performance, and the effects of using performance enhancing drugs can have long term effects on an
individual s life.
A commonly used drug in athletes goes by the name of anabolic steroids. The best way to help clarify
your understanding of the importance of anabolic steroids is to define these steroids as a synthetic way
to acquire the male sex hormone testosterone. The proper name for these steroids are anabolic
androgenic steroids of which anabolic refers to muscle building and androgenic refers to increasing
male sex characteristics. In sports, athletes use anabolic steroids to assist them in performing with
more speed and strength, and endure more pain than normal. The way in which anabolic steroids build
muscle strength is by entering into muscle cells and shifting on the genes that assemble muscle
proteins.
In connection to the history of anabolic steroids, androgenic agents, or drugs of resemblance, weren t
recently discovered. Performance enhancing drugs in sports date back to BC 776, Greek Olympians.
As the world and technology progress, performance enhancing drugs have become more efficient,
which has increased the use of these drugs and the results of using anabolic steroids have increased.

The Role Of Resocialization In An Ember In The Ashes
Erving Goffman created the idea of a total institution and the degradation ceremony. This is something
that is often seen in societies to resocialize people. In the book An Ember in the Ashes, there will be
many examples of how the total institution and the process of resocialization work. Replacing one s
sense of self with something different, is an example of resocialization. This is done through the work
of a total institution. A total institution is, an institution that regulates all aspects of a person s life,
under a single authority... (Schaefer, 86) In the book An Ember in the Ashes, by Sabaa Tahir explains
what it s like to live in a total institution and what it does to your sense of self. Erving Goffman coined
the term total institution. (Schaefer, 86) There are also four rules of total institutions. The first rule is,
All aspects of life are conducted I the same place under the control of a single authority. An Ember in
the Ashes, takes place at an academy called Blackcliff, where students are trained to become killers
and the police of the nation. This all falls under the rule of the Commandant. This is the single
authority that Goffman explains must be essential to a total institution. We don t hear the Commandant
of Blackcliff Military Academy approach; we feel her, the way you feel a storm coming. (Tahir, 27)

second aspect of a total institution is, any

Hallucinations can be auditory. The types of auditory hallucinations that people experience vary. Some
people can hear mean voices one telling them to do something wrong and the other telling them not

participant in what you are hearing. Another auditory hallucination that is very common is hearing
music and it can be any kind of music. People that experience these types of hallucinations are normal
people like you and me. There are many theories as to why people experience auditory hallucinations
such as a greater activation in the primary auditory cortex, or some think it because we can t recognize
the auditory hallucination as our own.

Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome Research Paper
Abstract Thiamine is an essential vitamin needed by all cells in the body. When the body lacks
thiamine for an extended period of time, many problems arise, mainly in the brain and heart.
Alcoholism and malnourishment are two of the leading causes of thiamine deficiency. Although fairly
rare, Wernicke Korsakoff syndrome (WKS) can be a severe consequence of thiamine shortage. WKS
is a neurodegenerative disease that affects the brain and disrupts the neuronal signaling. Not only does
it make daily life very difficult, it can become life threatening and cause permanent damage. The lack
of thiamine interrupts many biochemical pathways in the body, including the pentose phosphate
pathway, glycolysis, and the Citric Acid cycle. Disrupting these pathways causes WKS to present
along with multiple other complications.
Introduction
WKS is actually a combination of two different diseases. Wernicke s Encephalopathy is the first to
appear. It is a short lived, but life threatening mental condition. It causes ocular disturbances, mental
state variation, and unsteady movements and stance (Thomson, 2009). Wernicke s Encephalopathy is
mainly seen in alcoholics, but has been observed in non alcoholics as well. Korsakoff s syndrome is
the second illness to present. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, if caught early enough, the less likely there will be residual brain damage and memory
impairment. Treatment for WKS is immediate administration of thiamine. Thiamine doses differ from
patient to patient depending on severity of the WKS. Oral thiamine supplements are not effective in
severe cases because of the liver damage and disrupted thiamine metabolism. It usually is
administered intramuscularly. Taking the thiamine may not completely reverse all damage, but can
prevent the progression of the disease. Also, a few lifestyle changes should be made, including a
complete diet and refraining from heavy

Disaster Disasters And Its Impact On A Population
Disasters, at their most basic, arise when hazards have a significant impact on a population. A 7.0
magnitude earthquake that would be a devastating disaster in a densely populated and vulnerable city,
may be a relatively insignificant geologic occurrence when it strikes an unoccupied island chain. Risk
of a disaster is more traditionally calculated by identification of the potential hazard, assess in relation
of likelihood of an event as it relates to the potential impact severity or risk = probability x
impact/loss. (Smith 2013). For preparedness, risk formulas are insufficient in the absence of context
and consideration for social vulnerability, Birkmann (2007) encourages us to shift away from viewing
disasters as large scale events ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initial results of the digital search showed a predominance of earthquake information (90%), very few
addressing fire (7%) and even fewer addressing both (3%) Additionally, only 8 % of web and mobile
apps allowed for user interaction. (Fagg, Verucci Rickles 2015). The paper based advice we reviewed
varied widely in quality, detail, and accessibility, but most focused on raising awareness of the hazard
and general home based actions for general or single hazard preparedness specifically; minor
acknowledgements of the potential for a subsequent and arising additional hazard (e.g. post
earthquake shut off of gas if there is leak to prevent fire), but none noted the significant link between
the two hazards. There is a further leap between the small fixes that can be enacted by individuals and
those that are more significant or structural changes. These initial findings show a gap that our
research might address.
Yet, despite all of the information that exists, it has been noted that neither public perception of risk
nor perceived knowledge of the hazard and government response arrangements alone are necessarily
correlated to preparedness action either in intention to adopt mitigation measures or in their actual
uptake (Lindell Whitney 2000). Some

Analysis Of Kill A Mockingbird By Harper Lee
Social Inequality is an issue that the American society has been struggling to solve for generations.
Though we would like to say that this problem has been solved throughout time, it sadly has not
gotten much better. In the classic novel To Kill A Mockingbird, author Harper Lee takes us back in
time to when this issue was more commonly known, the 1930 s. The Finch family had lived in the
town of Maycomb for generations and throughout the book it was clearly shown and stated how both
women and blacks were seen differently because of their race or gender. After taking a closer look at
Lee s symbolism, characterization and foreshadowing used to describe the rough times that both
women and African Americans had to go through. One very common literary device that was shown
throughout the novel was Lee s use of symbolism. The references to mockingbirds throughout the
book played a huge role in showing social inequality at its finest. An example of this device being
used is when Miss Maudie Atkinson refers to mockingbirds when having a conversation with Scout.
Mockingbirds don t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don t eat up people s gardens,
don t nest in corn cribs, they don t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That is why its a sin to
kill a mockingbird. (Lee 119). When first reading this it is not very clear what the author is trying to
say, but, it is actually showing symbolism towards social inequality in the strongest ways. Just like

Scholars have dedicated their time and attention to furthering the discipline of African American

Final Paper
Death and life threatening illnesses is not a subject that one likes to talk about. It is more complex,
when the subject of wills and end of life desires arise. In this paper, I will be discussing ethical
situations that arise when dealing with this specific problem.
I will be talking about the potential consequences that the deceased family must deal with when a will
has not either been formed or performed properly. Next, I will be looking at the differences between
palliative and recuperative care; I will also give my view on who should be included in the decision to
alter care from recuperative to palliative. My next topic will be deliberating the issue of end of life ...

If one fails to execute a living will, a person might opt not to establish a power of attorney. This also
leads to difficulty for one to control the kind of medical treatment to adapt. Whenever an estate hits
intestate situation, the court will take responsibility and pay outstanding debts and expenses before
distribution the property takes place. When the court has to take the decision of the distribution of
property it will only take into consideration the family members on the deceased.
Question #2 www.nationalsensusproject.org, says that palliative care stands for patient and family
focused care that optimizes the quality of life anticipating, treating suffering, preventing. Palliative
care means continues continuum of illness that includes addressing physical, social, and emotional,
spirituals and intellectual needs and facilitation of autonomy. We can say palliative care is used to
explain pain management when individuals are either healthy or when individuals are in their process
of dying. Palliative care leads to the easing of suffering in physical and mental health without really
curing it. Health resources and service administrations define recuperative care as a short term medical
care, and the type of management offered to people who

Pan s Labyrinth As A Fairy Tale
Pan s Labyrinth was a fairytale that took place during the Spanish Civil war. This movie was a good
example of a fairytale for many different reasons. One reason why Pan s Labyrinth is a good example
of a fairy tale is because of the use of the fairytale characters: faun, fairy, and evil human eating
monster. In a fairytale is usually has unexpected monsters or creatures and this movie has a bunch of
mythical creatures. Another example of how Pan s Labyrinth is a good example of a fairytale is
because of the way the story goes. In this film is has an evil leader and his army with his beliefs, and it
also has the side against him from accomplishing his evil plans. The last reason why this is a good
example of fairy tale is because of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a fairytale, they usually have some evil being with some extent of power to inflict pain, torture,
confuse, etc. others that the evil person would like to influence in a negative way. In this movie, the
evil person is the Spanish army s leader, and the Spanish army s power is his massive army that will
obey his every command with no revolution because if they do, they will be killed. For example, he
found out a doctor was on the other side, he put the doctor in a room with the army leader and the
doctor alone. Interrogated him, and eventually killed him for doing so anyways. This evil Spanish
leader, had not only power but authority already made in a conference room with other leaders and
branches from the Spanish government. The last part that makes this movie a fairytale is the items that
are used throughout the movie to change or alter the outcome of events. In the beginning a stone was
missing an eye, eventually the little girl found the missing piece of the stone and put it back in the spot
where it was supposed to go. After she had put the eye back in the stone, a big praying mantis looking
insect had sprouted out of the mouth that was wide open. The girl nearly instantly said Are you a
fairy? somehow the girl knew it was a fairy, but it hadn t shown its true form till later in the movie
when the girl and her mom are lying in bed and she tells the insect, You re a fairy , the insect changes
into its fairy form. In another scene of the movie the faun

Types Of Personality Tests Exist Today
ISFJ Personality Type Many types of personality tests exist today. The Meyers Briggs test has been
proven valid and reliable by hundreds of studies over the past 40 years (MBTI Basics). My personality
type is ISFJ which stands for Introverted, Sensing, Feeling and Judging. Learning about my
personality type has helped me realize which careers that would be good, the best way for to study, my
ability to successfully work on a team and even how my personality type impacts my personal
relationships. The description of this personality type seems to be an accurate assessment of my
personality The ISFJ personality type is described as a person who is quiet, loyal, cares about how
others feel and does not like turmoil. My job history is a very short list with my shortest time of
employment being six years. I have been close friends with all of my supervisors. I often think about
how a decision will affect those around me before I take any actions on them. The careers examples
listed for the ISFJ personality type include positions that interact with people due to the ability to pick
up on how others are feeling. The career choice that caught my eye first was administrative assistants.
I have been in this career for 20 years and I do love it. I have always said that I am good at this job.
The Myers Briggs test helps me understand why. A couple other career choices that was mentioned
were nursing and dental assistants. I am currently working on changing careers to dental

Analysis Of The Novel A Short Story
Short stories often present the single experience of a character or set of characters where its climax is
marked by a moment of crisis, either in a literal or more emotional and spiritual sense. Unlike the
novel, a short story does not provide the full details of the circumstances or backstory of the situation
at hand, nor does it allow the reader to develop an in depth relationship with these characters. Despite
its condensed form, the short story can possess layers of subtexts and a sort of narrative ambiguity
where pressure is placed on the reader to make something of these literary texts. To make sense of
these subtexts, the reader should pay particular attention to the narrative voice being utilized because
the narrator has the ability to influence how a reader may respond to a literary text by setting up a
perspective from which the reader sees it. To get a thorough analysis of a short story, the reader must
analyze its narrator because the text s character is developed from the degree to which and the manner
in which that identity is indicated in the text, and the choices that are implied (Bal 19). Evidence
suggests that the experience a reader may get from a short story is mostly dependent upon how that
story is presented. Mieke Bal refers to this as focalization, where the relation between who perceives
and what is perceived colors the story with subjectivity (8). For instance, the psychology behind the
supposed lovers behavior in D.H. Lawrence s

Allusions In The Rocket Man
In The Rocket Man by Ray Bradbury, the main character Doug s father, clearly drove his rocket ship
into the sun intentionally, because throughout the story he talked a lot about death and his unhappy
lifestyle. The night before Doug s father left for what he said would be his last trip to space, he and
Doug had a deep one on one conversation about being a rocket man, and the dangers of space. Doug
asked if it was easy to die in space and instantly his dad listed many ways to die in space, The meteors
hit you. The air goes out of your rocket. Or comments take you with them. Concussion. Strangulation.

Snout s On Patrol Analysis
Snout s on Patrol Did you know there are pigs that work at airports? I m one. My name is Snout. I m
an airport pest control pig. I look for birds that are living in the tall grass and bushes near the runways
at the airport. Birds can cause problems for planes. If they come too close to one, they can run into it
or fly into the engines. I help keep people and birds safe. I have a fabulous sense of smell, and I m
very smart. I can figure out where the birds are from their scent. Here s what happened today. 8:30
a.m. to 12:00 p.m. My trainer Joe and I patrolled the grass and bushes along runways 1 through 5.
Many birds come to these brushy areas to build their nests, and also because there are seeds, insects,

Key Elements For Tissue And Organ Regeneration
Introduction Tissue engineering is an interdisciplinary approach that basically replaces, restore the
function and regenerate the damaged cell or tissue using biological substitutes. Succinctly,
extracellular matrix (ECM) in human tissue is a key element for tissue and organ regeneration. It
provides a convenient environment for the cellular attachment, growth and migration stimulate by
specific signals. This solid matrix has a complex mixture of structural and functional proteins that
serve as a reliable source of nutrient for the cells. ECM also associated with the cell behaviour, tissue
differentiation, organisation and neovascularisation. In tissue engineering, the suitable scaffolds are
use to act as an ECM analogue (1). The various roles and complicated composition of ECM become a
great challenge for the scaffolds to mimic the native ECM in repairing the diseased or damaged tissue.
Thus, it is important to develop the ideal scaffolds with optimal properties and architecture since its
mechanical characteristics will greatly affect the activity of cell adhesion, proliferation and
differentiation. Apparently, the biomaterial used in fabrication of scaffolds may influence its
significant features, such as biodegradability, bioactivity and porosity. The bioactivity, including cell
adhesion, cell alignment and interaction between scaffolds and cellular components could be enhanced
by adding the biological cues onto the biomaterials. Besides that, it is also important for

Audre Lorde s The New Misandry
When I first started to read The New Misandry I thought I was not going to like it. I was immediately
turned off by the use of this word because it has such a powerful social stigma. As I read more closely
I appreciated her message a great deal more. I particularly liked the section where she argues that
...hurting people makes them angry, anger turns to hate when the anger is chronic and accompanied by
helplessness, and although you can bully or shame people into not showing their anger, the only way
to stop the anger is to stop the hurt (Russ 169). This reminded me of The Uses of Anger by Audre
Lorde. Tactically, I do think angry can be tool for change, but I disagree that Misandry could be a
productive label to use. I can see why some people would hate men, but that does not mean I think it is
healthy the person harboring all of that hatred. I want to turn to the idea of hating Patriarchy, but I m
not sure if I am simply falling into the trap that Russ talks about at the end. Am I accepting the idea of
oppression only on the condition that the real ugly effects are ignored (Russ 170)? This is possibly ...

that it has become normalized? Or perhaps it is because people are socially conditioned ignore the
signs of misogyny in everyday life and any non normative misandrist behavior challenges this. It
almost seems like the act of calling out misogyny makes women and queer individuals automatically
at risk for being called a misandrist. This is very backward. Yet even as I see the hypocrisy here, I do

Examples Of Conflict In Father And Son
The clash between ideas of one generation and the ideas of the next creates conflicts between parents
and children. In this case, between fathers and sons. For example in Ivan Turgenev s novel Father and
Sons (1862), the central conflict is depicted through the motif of generational differences, which are
revealed through the portrayal of each character and his or her relationship to others.
In Father and Sons, Turgenev reveals this conflict between the traditionalists Pavel in contrast to the
modernist, Bazarov. This conflict is raised because of each characters generation and belief. For
example Pavel is from an older generation who follows an old traditional Russian ideology. However,
Bazarov rejects the old traditional Russian ideologies and concentrate on the modern thinking of
Nihilism. Because of the two very different ideologies and beliefs, it is inevitable that there will be a
sense of tension and hatred building between the two characters which will eventually lead to climax
when one of the characters goes overboard, which is shown during the duel of Bazarov and Pavel.

period like the traditionalist Pavel and children are from a modern time period like the Nihilist

day because of their different beliefs. Parents don t like it when their children are on their phone

Abstinence-Only Education In Texas
Abstinence only education . Every person has the right of balanced sex education, if they want.
Abstinence only education is not the correct approach in Texas, because the programs ignore youth s
basic human right and the fundamental public health principle of accurate information, they advocate
contraceptive use and does not emphasize their failure rates, and virginity pledges do not delay the
beginning of sexual activity. American birth rates are lower than ever, unless you re in Texas. The state
s high teen birthrate has sparked debate about sex education in state, because observers believe that
the high teenage birthrate is an indication that the states abstinence only approach to sex education ...

The constant pressure that the Texas government apply on the teenage population about sex before
marriage makes them think that their only solution when a teenage girl gets pregnant is abortion.
Abortion is legal and accessible in Texas, and the majority of Texas metropolitan areas have abortion
clinics. This kind of education would work better if the state chooses to teach about contraception
methods, and the importance of abstinence. The only proven method for reducing pregnancy and
sexually transmitted disease, the studies say, is to combine the abstinence message with one that
teaches young people how to protect themselves against pregnancy and disease . However, the state
opposes to teach about contraception because they do not want to give the impression that the state
supports premarital sex. This conclusion from the Texas government is completely awful, because if
the state teaches the teenage population about the importance and usage of contraception methods
many teenage pregnancies could be prevented. Contraception can be extremely effective at preventing
unwanted pregnancies when it is used consistently and correctly. Abstinence only is not a realistic
approach for everyone, because what about those teenagers that have been sexually assaulted

Heat Loss Investigation Essay
Heat Loss Investigation
Introduction ============
In this investigation I will investigate heat loss and heat transfer in different materials and I will also
investigate which materials are the best insulators. A material that prevents this heat loss is called an
insulator and this helps to keep the object that is being insulated warmer for, longer. Heat is generally
transferred in three different methods:
Conduction
Convection
Radiation
Conduction is energy transferred from the hotter part of a solid to the colder part of conduction. It is
transferred by the particles in the material the particles in the hot part are vibrating more. These
vibrations are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The particles that escape are those with higher than average energy otherwise they would not have
enough energy to escape. Because the liquid loses its higher energy particles, the liquid that is left has
less energy, so it becomes cooler.
I will test two types of insulation to see which is the best at preventing heat loss I will use black card,
and tin foil to insulate the beaker filled with water. I will also do this twice one in a small beaker and
once in a larger beaker. I will investigate also if I use more water will this affect the heat loss. If I use
more water will this hold insulate the water more? So overall I will have four sets of results.
Factors of the experiment =========================
In this experiment there are many different factors that could affect my experiment and the results I
achieve, the factors are:
The amount of water used in each experiment If I use a large of amount of water this will mean that
the water will cool down slower and therefore stay warmer for longer. So the more water I use the
longer the water will stay warm, so if I use a small amount of water it will cool down quick.
Type of Insulation I will use This will change the amount of heat loss significantly. Different types of
material insulate differently depending on how efficiently the material

  • 3. Viva La Vida And The Count Of Monte Cristo While each piece of literature is completely different, some of them have similar patterns and ideas. One of these ideas would be human nature. Human nature is anything that is natural for a human to do and can not be stopped easily. Things like greed and too much power can change someone greatly. This can be the cause of many problems and can make someone who is a good person into a bad person. In Viva La Vida and The Count of Monte Cristo, the writers use of allusions and metaphors convey the idea that human nature can be the cause of misfortune. The story of Viva La Vida, by Coldplay, is about a king who has too much power and ends up being overthrown from people in his kingdom. Coldplay expresses this story in metaphors. I used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This king had the key to the castle, meaning that he knew what the people wanted. The way Coldplay explains this story makes it seem like the people living in the king s castle turned on him, hence the reference to the walls closing in on himself. This king must have been hated for something he did, then again, every human makes mistakes. Although, this must not have been the first time because he lost his whole castle just from a mistake. Then he starts to realize why he was wrong. The downfall of this king could have been from bragging about his power too much since it is human nature to brag. Or possibly being overwhelmed with too much power giving his enemies a chance to attack. Another metaphor with the same meaning can be found in The Count of Monte Cristo. The same thing that happened to Brutus the night before the Battle of Philippi: I saw a ghost. And that ghost told me I have lived long enough (Dumas 381). At this moment in the story, the count is preparing for his duel with Albert. He then tells Maximilien that he plans on dying during the duel and leaving Maximilien his will. Maximilien is shocked and asks the count why he would ever do such a thing. The count responds with the above quote. This quote is a metaphor and shows how it is in a human s nature to want to forget the people who you don t like. This quote uses the example of Mercedes since she was the ghost that came to Dantes the night before the duel and begged him not to kill her son. Dantes responds by saying that he can not live with the dishonor of backing away from a duel, so he agreed to let Albert ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rewriting a story about the holocaust in the form of a graphic novel or comic as some might describe it, probably seemed unusual and childish. Having a large amount of books relating to the holocaust over the years has only made it repetitive because we are aware of Auschwitz and its terrible events. It also assisted the reader in imagining a setting where this all took place. For example, in chapter two, page 60 we see the diagram of Vladek explaining to the readers how he fixed boots and considered himself a shoemaker. Here we can see the quick thinking that he used to get himself out a situation that could have turned sour for the most part. He used his judgement and resourcefulness to assist him against the German soldiers and turned himself into an asset for them. On page 61 on the bottom right corner we see how his talents in repairing shoes also rewarded him with food. On page 64 in the top middle panel, shows us the diagram of what types of things Vladek would save to trade for food or vodka. He explains to Art that he would save his cigarettes to trade for one portion of day s bread in order to send it to his mother Anja to keep her alive. A believer can tell someone about their horrible past, but if they did not know the believer before they were a believer, the testimony could fall flat. Additionally, it is an non provable method, since it is a personal feeling or experience the person is describing, not concrete proof. Finally, there is an issue with duplication by other religions, meaning that other religious believers have a testimony and experience to share, as well. Relying solely on the experiential apologetics leaves the apologist open to a myriad of problems with proof and deniability of their testimony. CONCLUSION Experiential apologetics proposes that knowledge of God and his grace has to come from a personal experience which then leads to acceptance of God s truth expressed in the Scriptures. This personal experience may come from a testimony of a believer to an unbeliever, or through direct experience of a non believer causing them to become a believer. While several proponents of this method have developed different interpretations of the form over time, the basic principle still remains valid that a shared experience can help to save a lost soul. Although experiential apologetics are considered one of the personal and intimate forms of apologetics, it is also considered one of the weakest forms due to

Mark Twain s Cannibalism In The Cars Mark Twain is one of Americas most humorous writers, stories of his such as; How To Tell a Story (Source A) and Cannibalism In the Cars (Source B) are both great examples of how he creates such humor in his writing. Twain uses a wide variety of devices in his stories, such as apostrophe, hypophora, and personification. Here are some examples of how Twain integrates these devices into his writing, and how they create such a humorous effect. In the short story Cannibalism In the Cars , Twain describes a group of politicians that are trapped inside a train. As the story progresses, they eat each other off one by one, symbolizing how men in high power resort to eating each other alive rather than find a solution that could save them all. To go along with this satirical piece, Twain throws in some well played rhetorical devices as well; one of such being personification. Twain describes how the snow starts piling up and how it ...extended its depressing influence over every spirit (Source B), until eventually ...every soul leaped (Source B). Not only did politicians change their allegiances, but moderate reformers were radicalised, and British society was completely divided into supporters and detractors of the Revolution. It also resulted in a drastic politicisation of Ireland, changing the nature of politics completely. The British government was threatened by the French Revolution because they saw what was happening in France and saw the beginnings of the process in their own country. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ideological issues raised by the French Revolution served as a catalyst for British domestic politics subsequently leading to the development of a Tory Party in Britain as those who followed Burke followed him to William Pitt the Younger who established the first Tory government. Pitt s initial lacklustre reaction to the Revolution had changed rapidly with the growth of radicalism in Britain, especially after Thomas Paine published his Rights of Man in 1791, condemning it as a monstrous doctrine . This new Tory government that had been established was much less tolerant of reformers in a time where radical reformers were far more common and were feeding off the energy of the French Revolution. In the 1770s, a movement for parliamentary reform began in Britain under the leadership of middle class men such as John Cartwright and Christopher Wyvill. When the Revolution in France began in 1789 this movement began to grow rapidly, and an atmosphere of revolutionary fervour spread across Britain, inspiring reformers. In many ways the French Revolution acted as a template of reform to radicals and reformers across Britain and Europe. When the propaganda of the French Revolution began to reach the masses of Britain in 1792 the situation worsened for the British government as interest in radical societies spiked. • 9. What Are The Benefits Of Factory Farming Factory Farming Has to Go Twenty decades ago, livestock farmers used to breed their animals in the traditional way where their farm animals were let loose over a large area of farm and allowed to reproduce naturally. Over recent years, a new system of rearing livestock has come into existence which is more popularly known as Factory Farming. Factory Farming makes use of extremely intensive procedures through the use of which poultry, cattle and other livestock are kept indoors under rigid controlled settings. Since this technique has gained much popularity into how food is being produced in America, it is also one of the most debated and controversial concepts. While it is true that using this modern method to produce meat and dairy one can expect greater productivity at a swifter rate, the question still remains at what cost? Food manufacturers in America claim that Factory Farming is a much cheaper way of processing meat and other food items where they are able to increase their margins as well as provide the consumers with cheaper food. However, current research on the effects of factory farming suggests that the method is one of the best examples of animal cruelty (Park). The conditions that the animals ... • 11. Food Productivity And Its Impact On The United States Essay Meanwhile, another 3 billion people are going to need somewhere to live. By 2050, 70% of us are going to be living in cities. This century will see the rapid expansion of cities, as well as the emergence of entirely new cities that do not yet exist. It s worth mentioning that of the 19 Brazilian cities that have doubled in population in the past decade, 10 are in the Amazon. All this is going to use yet more land. We currently have no known means of being able to feed 10 billion of us at our current rate of consumption and with our current agricultural system. Indeed, simply to feed ourselves in the next 40 years, we will need to produce more food than the entire agricultural output of the past 10,000 years combined. Yet food productivity is set to decline, possibly very sharply, over the coming decades due to climate change; soil degradation and desertification, both of which are increasing rapidly in many parts of the world; and water stress. By the end of this century, large parts of the planet will not have any usable water. At the same time, the global shipping and airline sectors are projected to continue to expand rapidly every year, transporting more of us, and more of the stuff we want to consume, around the planet year on year. It is an incurable, rare disease affecting 1 in 3 million people with a medial life span of 5 9 years after it is diagnosed. The cause of this disease is unknown but recent indications and research show that the cause can be due to changes in the DNA. The proper name for these steroids are anabolic androgenic steroids of which anabolic refers to muscle building and androgenic refers to increasing male sex characteristics. In sports, athletes use anabolic steroids to assist them in performing with more speed and strength, and endure more pain than normal. • 34. Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome Research Paper Abstract Thiamine is an essential vitamin needed by all cells in the body. When the body lacks thiamine for an extended period of time, many problems arise, mainly in the brain and heart. Alcoholism and malnourishment are two of the leading causes of thiamine deficiency. Although fairly rare, Wernicke Korsakoff syndrome (WKS) can be a severe consequence of thiamine shortage. WKS is a neurodegenerative disease that affects the brain and disrupts the neuronal signaling. Not only does it make daily life very difficult, it can become life threatening and cause permanent damage. The lack of thiamine interrupts many biochemical pathways in the body, including the pentose phosphate pathway, glycolysis, and the Citric Acid cycle. Disrupting these pathways causes WKS to present along with multiple other complications. Introduction WKS is actually a combination of two different diseases. Wernicke s Encephalopathy is the first to appear. It is a short lived, but life threatening mental condition. It causes ocular disturbances, mental state variation, and unsteady movements and stance (Thomson, 2009). A 7.0 magnitude earthquake that would be a devastating disaster in a densely populated and vulnerable city, may be a relatively insignificant geologic occurrence when it strikes an unoccupied island chain. Risk of a disaster is more traditionally calculated by identification of the potential hazard, assess in relation of likelihood of an event as it relates to the potential impact severity or risk = probability x impact/loss. The paper based advice we reviewed varied widely in quality, detail, and accessibility, but most focused on raising awareness of the hazard and general home based actions for general or single hazard preparedness specifically; minor acknowledgements of the potential for a subsequent and arising additional hazard (e.g. post earthquake shut off of gas if there is leak to prevent fire), but none noted the significant link between the two hazards. There is a further leap between the small fixes that can be enacted by individuals and those that are more significant or structural changes. These initial findings show a gap that our research might address. Though we would like to say that this problem has been solved throughout time, it sadly has not gotten much better. In the classic novel To Kill A Mockingbird, author Harper Lee takes us back in time to when this issue was more commonly known, the 1930 s. The Finch family had lived in the town of Maycomb for generations and throughout the book it was clearly shown and stated how both women and blacks were seen differently because of their race or gender. After taking a closer look at Lee s symbolism, characterization and foreshadowing used to describe the rough times that both women and African Americans had to go through. One very common literary device that was shown throughout the novel was Lee s use of symbolism. The references to mockingbirds throughout the book played a huge role in showing social inequality at its finest. An example of this device being used is when Miss Maudie Atkinson refers to mockingbirds when having a conversation with Scout. Mockingbirds don t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don t eat up people s gardens, don t nest in corn cribs, they don t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That is why its a sin to kill a mockingbird. (Lee 119). • 43. Analysis Of The Novel A Short Story Short stories often present the single experience of a character or set of characters where its climax is marked by a moment of crisis, either in a literal or more emotional and spiritual sense. Unlike the novel, a short story does not provide the full details of the circumstances or backstory of the situation at hand, nor does it allow the reader to develop an in depth relationship with these characters. Despite its condensed form, the short story can possess layers of subtexts and a sort of narrative ambiguity where pressure is placed on the reader to make something of these literary texts. To make sense of these subtexts, the reader should pay particular attention to the narrative voice being utilized because the narrator has the ability to influence how a reader may respond to a literary text by setting up a perspective from which the reader sees it. To get a thorough analysis of a short story, the reader must analyze its narrator because the text s character is developed from the degree to which and the manner in which that identity is indicated in the text, and the choices that are implied (Bal 19). Evidence suggests that the experience a reader may get from a short story is mostly dependent upon how that story is presented. Mieke Bal refers to this as focalization, where the relation between who perceives and what is perceived colors the story with subjectivity (8). It provides a convenient environment for the cellular attachment, growth and migration stimulate by specific signals. This solid matrix has a complex mixture of structural and functional proteins that serve as a reliable source of nutrient for the cells. ECM also associated with the cell behaviour, tissue differentiation, organisation and neovascularisation. In tissue engineering, the suitable scaffolds are use to act as an ECM analogue (1). The various roles and complicated composition of ECM become a great challenge for the scaffolds to mimic the native ECM in repairing the diseased or damaged tissue. Thus, it is important to develop the ideal scaffolds with optimal properties and architecture since its mechanical characteristics will greatly affect the activity of cell adhesion, proliferation and differentiation. Apparently, the biomaterial used in fabrication of scaffolds may influence its significant features, such as biodegradability, bioactivity and porosity. The bioactivity, including cell adhesion, cell alignment and interaction between scaffolds and cellular components could be enhanced by adding the biological cues onto the biomaterials. Besides that, it is also important for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Audre Lorde s The New Misandry When I first started to read The New Misandry I thought I was not going to like it. I was immediately turned off by the use of this word because it has such a powerful social stigma. As I read more closely I appreciated her message a great deal more. I particularly liked the section where she argues that ...hurting people makes them angry, anger turns to hate when the anger is chronic and accompanied by helplessness, and although you can bully or shame people into not showing their anger, the only way to stop the anger is to stop the hurt (Russ 169). This reminded me of The Uses of Anger by Audre Lorde. Tactically, I do think angry can be tool for change, but I disagree that Misandry could be a productive label to use. I can see why some people would hate men, but that does not mean I think it is healthy the person harboring all of that hatred. I want to turn to the idea of hating Patriarchy, but I m not sure if I am simply falling into the trap that Russ talks about at the end. Am I accepting the idea of oppression only on the condition that the real ugly effects are ignored (Russ 170)? This is possibly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have never openly called someone a misogynist, but I have been called a misandrist or Femin Nazi before simply for identifying as a feminist. The word misogyny calls up images of angry butch man hates, but I don t think misogynist has equivalent imagery. Is this because misogyny is so prevalent that it has become normalized? Or perhaps it is because people are socially conditioned ignore the signs of misogyny in everyday life and any non normative misandrist behavior challenges this. It almost seems like the act of calling out misogyny makes women and queer individuals automatically at risk for being called a misandrist. This is very backward. Yet even as I see the hypocrisy here, I do not wish to take on this word because I do not believe hatred can be a viable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Examples Of Conflict In Father And Son The clash between ideas of one generation and the ideas of the next creates conflicts between parents and children. In this case, between fathers and sons. For example in Ivan Turgenev s novel Father and Sons (1862), the central conflict is depicted through the motif of generational differences, which are revealed through the portrayal of each character and his or her relationship to others. In Father and Sons, Turgenev reveals this conflict between the traditionalists Pavel in contrast to the modernist, Bazarov. This conflict is raised because of each characters generation and belief. For example Pavel is from an older generation who follows an old traditional Russian ideology. However, Bazarov rejects the old traditional Russian ideologies and concentrate on the modern thinking of Nihilism. Because of the two very different ideologies and beliefs, it is inevitable that there will be a sense of tension and hatred building between the two characters which will eventually lead to climax when one of the characters goes overboard, which is shown during the duel of Bazarov and Pavel. Pavel Petrovich (Arkady s Uncle) is a true believer of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example between parents and their children. Like in the novel, the parents are from an old time period like the traditionalist Pavel and children are from a modern time period like the Nihilist Bazarov. Just like the conflict between Pavel and Bazarov, Parents and children have conflict every day because of their different beliefs. Parents don t like it when their children are on their phone because when they grew up such things did not exist. However, for children they want to be on the phone because in their generation this is a normal thing. • 49. Abstinence-Only Education In Texas Abstinence only education . Every person has the right of balanced sex education, if they want. Abstinence only education is not the correct approach in Texas, because the programs ignore youth s basic human right and the fundamental public health principle of accurate information, they advocate contraceptive use and does not emphasize their failure rates, and virginity pledges do not delay the beginning of sexual activity. American birth rates are lower than ever, unless you re in Texas. The state s high teen birthrate has sparked debate about sex education in state, because observers believe that the high teenage birthrate is an indication that the states abstinence only approach to sex education ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The constant pressure that the Texas government apply on the teenage population about sex before marriage makes them think that their only solution when a teenage girl gets pregnant is abortion. Abortion is legal and accessible in Texas, and the majority of Texas metropolitan areas have abortion clinics. This kind of education would work better if the state chooses to teach about contraception methods, and the importance of abstinence. The only proven method for reducing pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease, the studies say, is to combine the abstinence message with one that teaches young people how to protect themselves against pregnancy and disease . However, the state opposes to teach about contraception because they do not want to give the impression that the state supports premarital sex. This conclusion from the Texas government is completely awful, because if the state teaches the teenage population about the importance and usage of contraception methods many teenage pregnancies could be prevented. Contraception can be extremely effective at preventing unwanted pregnancies when it is used consistently and correctly. Abstinence only is not a realistic approach for everyone, because what about those teenagers that have been sexually assaulted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Heat Loss Investigation Essay Heat Loss Investigation Introduction ============ In this investigation I will investigate heat loss and heat transfer in different materials and I will also investigate which materials are the best insulators. A material that prevents this heat loss is called an insulator and this helps to keep the object that is being insulated warmer for, longer. Heat is generally transferred in three different methods: Conduction Convection Radiation Conduction is energy transferred from the hotter part of a solid to the colder part of conduction. It is transferred by the particles in the material the particles in the hot part are vibrating more. These vibrations are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The particles that escape are those with higher than average energy otherwise they would not have enough energy to escape. Because the liquid loses its higher energy particles, the liquid that is left has less energy, so it becomes cooler. I will test two types of insulation to see which is the best at preventing heat loss I will use black card, and tin foil to insulate the beaker filled with water. I will also do this twice one in a small beaker and once in a larger beaker. I will investigate also if I use more water will this affect the heat loss. If I use more water will this hold insulate the water more? So overall I will have four sets of results. Factors of the experiment ========================= In this experiment there are many different factors that could affect my experiment and the results I achieve, the factors are: The amount of water used in each experiment If I use a large of amount of water this will mean that the water will cool down slower and therefore stay warmer for longer. So the more water I use the longer the water will stay warm, so if I use a small amount of water it will cool down quick. Type of Insulation I will use This will change the amount of heat loss significantly. Different types of material insulate differently depending on how efficiently the material
