The Fairy Tales Bear Negative And Repulsive Traits, Such...
The stepmother s in fairy tales bear negative and repulsive traits, such as vanity, jealousy and pride.
The character of the wicked stepmother has gained notoriety as one of the evilest villains found in
fairy tales, often set up as a foil to the innocent and virtuous stepdaughter whom she mistreats and
who ultimately gains victory over her. Combined with these traits are their knowledge of magicand
sorcery. Despite her knowledge of the supernatural, her beauty is a fading trait. Stepmothers are
comparable to wild animals and supernatural beings that treat children wickedly. In the past, the
stepmother s role was to replace the child s biological mother who had died. Many of these bad
examples are seen in such stories as Cinderella ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gilbert and Gubar argue that the stepmother in Snow White is indeed driven by want of an
unfeminine life of stories and story telling ; each of her three attempts on life become three tales or
plots which she invents, and through such subversive story telling , she attempts to control the
narrative of her own life. Therefore, through their overwhelming influence on the plot of the tales,
these women show again their strength and power and pit themselves against the fragile, passive
heroines. Another way in which the Brothers Grimm emphasize the evil nature of the stepmother is
through her association with witchcraft. The Brothers Grimm played a great part in contributing to
the construction of the evil stepmother character in fairy tales. Through the editorial changes they
made, and their emphasis on the monstrous, cruel and unnatural aspects of her character, they
transformed the figure of the stepmother into the ultimate fairy tale villain whose legacy continues
to this day. , the stepmother has also become a scapegoat, a terrifying figure who goes against all
the expectations of women and motherhood, but who is nevertheless herself a victim of the
situation and the society she finds herself in.
Most of the children literature deal with the fight between good and evil. with constantly supporting

MONTGOMERY GI BILLIN
The Montgomery GI Bill had to be proclaimed as one of the greatest important pieces of
legislation ever enacted by our government, the GI Bill impacted the U.S. socially, and
economically. But this bill almost didn t even pass.
They called it the Service Member Readjustment Act of 1944 at that time it was more commonly
known as the GI Bill of Rights it was delayed in Congress, where members of the Senate and the
House argued over specifications over this controversial bill. Some members of the House and
Senate rejected the thought of paying Veterans twenty dollars a week in unemployment, they
thought it would give Veterans a reason not to look for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From 1944 to 1952 the VA supported almost 2.4 million home loans for WWII Veterans. Many
Vets used the education and home loan benefits, very few Vets participated in one of the bill s
most debated obligations the unemployment pay. No more than 20 percent of funds set aside for
Veterans were ever used.
Former Mississippi Congressman Gillespie V. Montgomery ended up revamped the bill in 1984.
The GI Bill will now be known as the Montgomery GI Bill , ensuring that the remainder of the
original GI Bill would live on, as VA home loan guarantee and education programs continue to work
for the Soldiers, Sailors. Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guard.
The Montgomery GI Bill was looked at once again in 2008 and was then updated. The new GI
Bill know allows Veterans who served on or after September 11th 2001 which included improved
benefits for education, benefits that cover more educational expenses, provide a monthly housing
stipend, book allowance, but the biggest change was the ability of the Veteran to transfer all or

What Is The Meaning Of The Literary Analysis Of Psalm 42
Not only did psalm 42 stand out immediately to me for its literary elements within the first verse,
but for its poetic style and language as well. This psalm is a lyrical one with plenty of emotion
and literary figures. The latter ranges from similes to parallelism and everything in between, all
accumulating to form the psalm s meaning. To begin with, I will point out that the psalm is told
through first person point of view. The speaker or persona is presentthroughout the entire psalm,
using I and my to describe his thoughts, feelings, and memories. One instance is in the beginning
stanzawhere he asks himself, [when] shall I come and behold the face of God? (Ps. 42.2).
Already this tells the reader that this will be a very personal psalm, allowing insight into the
speaker s mind. The speaker is filled with anguish, but also strongly desires God s presence in his
life. The setting of this psalm takes place in both the past and present. In the past, the speaker
mentions how I went with the throng and led them in procession to the house of God (Ps.42.4).
The footnotes provide information about how the speaker recollects his memories of the Temple,
seemingly homesick for its protection. The present location for the speaker is from the land of
Jordan and of Hermon, from Mount Mizar (Ps.42.6). As the footnotes point out, this is far from
Jerusalem. God is addressed directly in the psalm as the speaker declares that his soullongs for you,
O God, (Ps.42.1).

Lewd Behavior During Mardi Gras
Individuals behavior during Mardi Gras is more focused on informal social control theory than
formal social control. Informal social control basically referred to our conformity to the normals
and values of the society and adoption of a particular belief system, which we learn through the
process of socialization . In other words, it norms and values learn from the people around us like
our parents, community, and society. People during the Mardi Gras conduct lewd behavior in
which is sexual behavior that is not appropriate. As mentioned in Testing informal social control
theory: examining lewd behavior during mardi gras by David Redmon, Lewd conduct at Mardi
Gras is defined as the exposure of one s genitals, anus, vulva, or female breast

Essay on Democracy in America
Democracy is a unique type of government, and the purpose of this essay is to illustrate the
strengths and weaknesses that a democratic government provides. I will detail that many
components of this type of society are both strengths and weakness as each component has
beneficial aspects as well as unavoidable pitfalls. A democracy is a government by the people, in
which the power is vested in the people themselves. The people then elect representatives who
conduct their power in a free electoral system. The Declaration of Independence, which says that
all men are created equal, was written on the premise of a democracy. According to John Locke,
who wrote The Social Contract, before acknowledging that an individual is part of a... Show more

The laws of society are applied equally to everyone, but equitable to the circumstances. The same
holds true for taxes: those with higher incomes pay a larger percentage of their income in taxes
than those in lower tax brackets. Although not equally applied, the tax laws are equitable.
Democratic laws are written in such a way as to allow interpretation depending upon
circumstances. A thousand circumstances, independent of the will of man, facilitate the
maintenance of a democratic republic in the United States Initially, laws are difficult to design
because lawmakers can t think of every possibility, every scenario, and every obstacle that may
present itself in the democracy. Despite these difficulties, laws keep society together and provide
unity for the citizens. Advantages for creating laws, include, but are not limited to, providing
direction for the collection of taxes, declaring clear expectations for compliance and punishment
of citizens and elimination of chaos. A weakness of democracy is the Tyranny of the Majority .
This is an inevitable pitfall, because in a democracy, the power is vested foremost in the people the
constituting the society itself. Alexis de Tocqueville wrote on this concept: Democratic laws
generally tend to promote the welfare of the greatest possible number; for they emanate from the
majority of the citizens, who are subject to error, but who cannot have an interest opposed to

The Battle of Midway Essay
The Battle of Midway dealt a devastating catastrophe for the Japanese naval and air capabilities
with destroying four carriers, one heavy cruiser, 248 aircraft, and 3,057 personnel. The
Americans lost one aircraft carrier, one destroyer, 150 aircraft, and 307 personnel. Historically,
Midway has been considered the turning point in the Pacific theater of World War II. Japan s
shipbuilding and pilot training programs were unable to keep pace in replacing their losses, while
the U.S. steadily increased its output in both areas that inevitably led denying Japan the ability to
achieve its limited policy objective: to destroy the American carrier force in the Pacific and use the
Aleutians and Midway Island as stepping stones for a Japanese... Show more content on

This intelligence allowed Nimitz to avoid a secondary naval battle and concentrate a surprise
attack unforeseen by the Japanese at Midway. Nimitz was able to position the fleet out of the
Japanese carrier s striking range and hide fall under the protection of land based air at Midway.
Aligning the three carriers and land based air power was instrumental in matching and defeating
the larger and more competent Japanese fleet. On the Japanese side of intelligence, Yamamoto
believed to have the element of surprise at Midway, which was thought to draw the Americans out
of Pearl Harbor. Yamamoto had numerical naval superiority in the Pacific to defeat the Americans
at sea but remained unaware that the code breakers ascertained its operational and strategic plan
to attack at Midway. Spector argues that Japanese submarines knew the American forces were
planning something at Pearl Harbor, but the intelligence was never passed on to Yamamoto.
Additionally, Yamamoto believed that two of the American carriers were sunk at Coral Sea,
which the Yorktown was hastily being repaired in Pearl Harbor. In reality, the Japanese had no
idea where the American fleet or carriers were leading up to the Battle of Midway.
Additionally, Yamamoto was deceived by American intelligence on the location of the other two
active carriers, which he thought were still in the South Pacific. Inevitably, Yamamoto proceeded to
attack Midway while Nimitz

Native American Art Research Paper
Many people collect Native American art today. To what factors do you attribute this popularity?
On the great plains of North America, heroes were born and legends were created. The Native
American tribes left an indelible mark on world history and continue to be a source of inspiration,
guidance, and reverence in today s world. One of the most important ways which the values and
wisdom of Native American tribes convey their message is through art.
Today, interest in studying and collecting Native American art is steadily rising. In response to the
demand for knowledge about the subject, a new website, native american art.org, has risen to the

Native American art history expressed in jewelry, quillwork, beading, and creation of items for
everyday living are replete in symbolism incorporating precious and semi precious stones.
Every piece of work created by these incredible people indicated workmanship, pride, and cultural

focal point in the development of the country in its infancy. Native American art history combines
the cultural intricacy of belief systems and practicality of objects designed for everyday use.
Native American Art History suggests the indigenous tribal peoples did not experiment with
various art forms until the advent of the colonial presence . It was through the social and cultural
interaction with Europeans that the tribal peoples were exposed to materials that were different
from those common to their understanding, such as beads.
Soon American Indian peoples mastered the art of beadwork and produced breathtaking artwork.
Highly complex beadwork was created by tribes according to practical appeal, beauty, and cultural
statement. Native American art history can be found at every place in America, each with its unique

Mia Ham In Soccer
There have been many influential women in the history of soccer. For example, Abby Wambach,
Mia Hamm, and Alex Morgan are just some of the many influential female soccer players.
Through all of them, Mia Hamm stands out the most. Mia Hamm is influential because she was
the founder of a bone marrow research foundation, she wrote a kids book to encourage them not
to quit even if they don t win, and she is an inspiration to girls who want to play soccer or any
other sports. First, she was the founder the Mia Hamm Foundation (a bone marrow research

Winners Never Quit! / Mia Hamm (Book) says The world s top goal scorer and three time
Olympian offers a soccer tale, putatively autobiographical, about a little girl whose tendency to
stomp off the field when frustrated prompts her teammates to teach her a lesson. The text
perfectly reflects a competitive child s rage when things don t go as desired. The book could be
an influence to kids to show them the importance of having good sportsmanship and not being
too hard on yourself when you don t win. Next, it says Mia learns quickly that there will be
times when she will score a goal and those when she will not, but playing the game is the most
fun of all. This quote supports that her book is one of the reasons she is influential because it
comes from her point of view so it s easy for kids who have had the same attitude when they don
t win to relate to. Last, Winners Never Quit! says, Mia Hamm, American soccer champion and
best selling author of Go for the Goal, tells a true life inspired story of learning that winning and
losing aren t as important as being part of a team. When kids (or really anyone) reads this, they
could learn the lesson that Mia learns, winning is not as important as being part of a team. Mia

While leaving a child unattended may be culturally correct in some countries, it is not appropriate
everywhere. Whether a Scandinavian is visiting and treats America as Scandinavia, leaving a child
unattended or whether it be an American engaging in this same practice, wrong is wrong. There
are many factors that should be taken into consideration all regarding the safety of the child, and I
believe in America a child should never be left unattended. It puts the child in harm s way, and
there is lack of supervision hence, is it Child neglect, which is Child abuse and should not happen. If
this should take place in America, no matter what the culture, I believe that it should be handled
accordingly meaning it should be reported to the proper authorities. Action means change!

The Increase of Chemical Suicide in United States and Its...
Chemical suicide is a growing problem all around the world. This form of suicide was created in
Japan, but now it is growing rapidly across the United States in recent years. People committing
this type of suicide are looking to kill themselves, and also may want to harm or kill first
responders in the process as well. This puts a large amount of people in danger in the immediate
area where the chemicals are located. These situations might not be clear to first responders upon
arrival and could cause injury or deathif they are not wearing proper personal protective equipment.
Chemical suicides became prevalent in the United States around 2008. Since then, the number of

These situations are dangerous and have to be treated with extreme caution. When first responders
are responding to a call of possible chemical suicide, they have to approach it with extreme caution
and be very aware of the situation. Most of the time at these situations, the person attempting to
use these chemicals to commit suicide will post some kind of warning for first responders as
well as other people. For example, a situation of chemical suicide in a car, the person might post
a sign in the window of the car as a warning to people and first responders on scene.
(FEMA.Gov). Although leaving a note or sign to warn people might happen, it is not always the
case. Some chemical suicides will not be as noticeable as others. A chemical suicide in a car can
produce levels of 8,000 parts per million in that car. Unless the responder is aware of the danger
and is wearing breathing apparatus when the door is opened, they may easily be killed with the
first breath they take. (Rowley). When approaching the scene, take time to do a full size up of
the scene and look inside the car through the window. You might be able to see and buckets or
cans that could have possibly been where the chemicals were mixed. (Oreshan III/Stevens, 2011).
This is something that is simple that first responders can and should do but it is easily overlooked
as well. There are other ways to tell if someone committed suicide with chemicals. For example, a
car could

Beowulf Christian Beliefs
The epic poem of Beowulf is one of the most well known stories in European history. The poem,
believed to be first written in 1000 CE, though probably around at least 300 years older, is a
story of a Geatish hero by the name of Beowulf who travels to the Danes to earn valor and
heroism for his name. In the epic there are many examples of what Thomas Hill refers to as
peculiar spiritual atmosphere , this is the combination of both pagan and Christian beliefs and
values in the epic. While many other early medieval texts are either emphatically and militantly
Christian or unapologetically pagan or secular, in their viewpoint Beowulfis neither (Hill 198 199).

They are considered to be Noachites, that is, gentiles who share the religious heritage and
knowledge of Noah and his sons without having access to the revealed knowledge of God which
was granted to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob a tradition culminate by the revelation of the Law to
Moses and continued by the charismatic tradition of prophecy in Israel. Every reference in the
poem which touches on religion can be understood in these terms except for one lines 179 83 in
which the poet apparently condemns Hrothgar and the Danes for idol worship (Hill 202). The
epic holds the values of Pagan ancestors and their Christian beliefs to be values that should be
upheld in their most important traditions. Even if their ancestors weren t Christian, they still
followed their value system. Many of the characters in the epic seem to talk in a monotheistic
perspective that the Germanic warriors of the time would not have used. This shows evidence
that the epic was recorded by a monk who held strong Christian values. For example, after the
warriors finished their sea voyage to the Danes, they praised God for giving them safe journey,
while the warriors of the time would have been more likely to praise either Thor or Odin, gods of
the religion practiced at the time in that area. Also, the condemnation of idol worship, when
Beowulf condemned the idol worship

Joint Light Tactical Vehicle ( Jltv )
Introduction
The joint light tactical vehicle (JLTV) is being destined to initiate a new era of the U.S. military
tactical vehicle that is designed to meet universal requirements for the future warfare and in hostile
environments. Thus, at the same time, Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) has been offering
fruitful case study for the assessment on its program management and procurement processes.
Therefore, this paper will briefly provide fundamental assessment on the JLTV program from the
requirement development through its current state including budgeting, acquisition process and
some challenges faced in the requirements. In addition, it will also highlight some observations on

In addition, enhanced survivability and both strategic and operational transportability by sea and
air are also crucial for the JLTV project requirements. The primary mission of the Joint Light
Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) is to provide protected, sustained, and networked light tactical mobility to
the Joint forces, capable of worldwide deployment across the full spectrum of military operations
and mission profiles under all weather and terrain conditions.
In addition, it has been designed that the JLTV would support C3 in both immobile and mobile
modes, various wider ranges in complex and dynamic operational environments.
Nevertheless, initial concept composed of three variants based on different payload capabilities,
four passenger Combat Tactical Vehicle (CTV) and a two passenger Combat Support Vehicle
(CSV) variants were survived as a final choice. The Joint Requirements Oversight Council (JROC)
of the DoD that provides a close oversight to joint acquisition programs and makes
recommendations to the Defense Acquisition Board has approved the JLTV program which would
be led by the Army in November 2006.
It was notable that, even though, joint Army/Marine Corps had intended to issue a Request for
Proposal (RFP) for Technology Development Phase by October 2007, the Pentagon s acquisition
executive, John Young disapproved the issuance of the RFP due to deep concern on funding
adequacy, technical maturity, and shifting requirements.

A Series for All Lovers of Fantasy
For centuries, humans have loved stories, particularly ones they can either relate to, or ones that are
plain exciting. A story of adventure, mystery, and the honest against the malevolent... the book
series The Castaways of the Flying Dutchman had all of this. Brian Jacques wrote the series, with
the first book published in 2001 and the last one in 2006, spanning over a three book series. The
first one is the one that named the series, the second book called The Angel s Command, and the
author named the final installment The Voyage of Slaves. The series follows two characters, a

Also, the author based the legend in the story off of a real sailor s tale. As previously stated, the
legend this uses features the ghost ship The Flying Dutchman, a name that people have used
over and over again. Although Jacques changed parts of the legend a bit to fit the series, it
introduces the reader to a whole new world of stories. Adapting a legend adds a whole new depth
to the story, as it makes the narrative so appealing. Personally, I had never heard of this legend
before, but the first novel actually made me want to learn more about that time period and the
legends mariners would tell of the mysteries of the sea. Known for his skill in writing the Redwall
books, Brian Jacques carried this style over into the Castaways series. He uses vivid figurative
language, exquisite vocabulary, exceptional dialogue techniques, and creates memorable characters
all throughout the whole series. In The Angel s Command, the very first sentence of the book
reads, Great and golden, like an enormous, newly minted doubloon, the Caribbean sun presided
over the waterfront. From merely the first sentence, the reader can see how amazing Jacques
writes, using similes and excellent vocabulary. Yet he doesn t write with words that no one can
even read, let alone understand. Jacques does a fine job writing with words that are the slightest bit
complex that it increases the reader s vocabulary, yet they know what they are reading.

Larkspur Middle School Research Paper
Do you remember the pep rallies from sixth grade? Remember how we sixth graders could not
wait until seventh grade to sit on the bleachers instead of the gym floor? Back in 2013, Larkspur
Middle School got rid of pep rallies since it was a safety hazard to have too many people in the
gym at the same time. Instead, they replaced pep rallies with spirit parades, so teams parade
around the school for about fifteen minutes and basically back up the whole school day. I think
the best way to bring school spirit back at Larkspur is to get rid of spirit parades, bring pep
rallies back, and hold them outside. First of all, spirit parades take too long and the hallway gets
crowded quickly. When all the classes were lined up along the lockers, it always got hot so fast.
We had to stand up for about fifteen minutes while being squished together. For example, it took
a while for it to start, and it only lasted for about five minutes. Spirit parades effected teachers,
too. These parades cut into valuable class time. Plus, teachers had to wait for their students who
were in the parade to come back. Spirit parades were probably worst for elective teachers and eight
grade students and teachers. First elective classes like academic support,... Show more content on

The main reason why Larkspur had to get rid of pep rallies was because the gym was too
packed. There were not enough seats in the gym, so sixth graders had to sit on the floor, while

an effect on the departure of leaving the gym. All the classes had to leave one by one through
the maze of all the students. This led to the fire department safety rule of only having a certain
number or people in one place at one time since it is a fire hazard. If a fire were to occur in the
gym, then there would only be about seven exits. These exits would not be easy to access since
the pep rallies were only on one side of the

The National Cemetery Administration ( Nca )
Throughout history, many monumental events led to the development of the National Cemetery
Administration (NCA). Ricketts (2014) notes that the mission of the NCA is to provide Veterans
with an honorary burial space in national cemeteries. They place a heavy significance on paying
tribute to the Veteran s services and sacrifices. In order to better understand the efforts carried out
by the NCA, it is beneficial to review its history and development. According to the U.S.
Department of Veteran Affairs ( History and development of the national cemeteryadministration ,
2015), the origin of National cemeteries began during the Civil War. Prior to the establishment of
such places, fallen soldiers were often buried on battlefields, nearby campsites, or taken to the
families chosen cemetery. However as the war progressed, the chaos and limited land titles led to
quick and inadequate burials. Neither the Union nor the Confederacy were equipped with the
awareness and resources to properly bury their soldiers . In 1861, Congress provided the Union
with benefits by appointing the Army s Quartermaster General as a conductor of burial
responsibilities. This order worked to ensure that there would be a record of all burials. It also
stated that a graveshould be marked with the placement of a wooden headboard. Although these
painted headboards resembled a memorial of the fallen soldier, they quickly succumbed to
environmental elements ( History and development of the

Analysis of †Patterns’ Written by Amy Lowell Essay
Amy Lowell is an American imagist poet who uses descriptive language to create specific
images in a readers mind. Set in the Victorian era (1800 s,) the dramatic monologue Patterns
explores the restrictions of unmarried women in society and the desire for freedom. My view of
these issues is that of a feminist reader living in a democratic modern day society, where men and
women live in a state of equality and have the right to express their opinions. A feminist reading
focuses on the specific treatment of women. Through Lowell s wondrous use of the poetic
techniques, primarily visual imagery (symbolism, repetition, contrasts) and poetic voice (persona
and tone,) a modern day feminist reader s negative views of the restricted lifestyles... Show more

This develops the idea that her future with this man as a married woman provided a stable
lifestyle where she would not have to live by the rigid patterns of society, reinforcing a modern day
feminist reader s view of the expectations and restrictions placed on unmarried women during the
Victorian era.
There is a distinct contrast between appearance and reality, which works to reinforce the idea of
confining individualistic behaviours to retain the pattern of society. In stanza two, she says that
tripping by in high heeled, ribboned shoes/ (there is) not a softness anywhere about (her) (lines
16 and 17) when she s wearing only whalebone and brocade (line 18.) The term whalebone refers
to a whalebone corset, which is a very hard material that is restrictive to movement. By
describing her actions as tripping, a modern day feminist reader is reinforced that she is not
coping in her current lifestyle where she is limited to living in a strict manner. In the next
stanza, she says that underneath (her) stiffened gown/ Is the softness of a woman (lines 32 and
33.) This develops the idea that the way she dresses is a deceiving appearance, because she is not
as stiff and stable on the inside as she comes across on the outside. Deep down she is soft and sad,
in mourning of the loss of her lover, yet she cannot express these emotions due to the expectations
and restrictions of women during the Victorian era.

The Importance Of Parent Adolescent Sexual Communication
Let s Talk About Sex: The Importance of Parent Adolescent Sexual Communication Communication
between parents and adolescents is important when educating teens on how to practice safer sex.
Roni Caryn Rabin in her article, Why Parents Should Have the Sex Talk With Their Children,
provides evidence as to how and why these conversations are important for healthy adolescent
sexual development. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 60 percent of
sexually active high school students did not use any birth controlthe last time they had intercourse.
This article emphasizes that these numbers can be reduced if parents simply engage in a
conversation with their teens about sex. Furthermore, factors such as being uncomfortable or
nervous about talking to their parents and fears that parents will over react play a key role in why
parents and their children do not have a safe sextalk (Rabin, 2015). Over all, Rabin stresses that
this topic is important to address regularly in order to promote safe sex and healthy relationships
in teens. However, after reviewing this article, there are four aspects that must be acknowledged in
order to educate parents on how to engage in conversations about sex in the most effective way.
First and foremost, Rabin (2015) states in her article that teens who communicated with their
parents about sex were more likely to communicate with their sexual partners and more likely to
delay sexual activity. However, in a 2007

The Effects of the Affair of Caesar and Cleopatra on Calpurnia
Introduction
After Hatshepsut, Cleopatra was the only Queen of Egypt who was seriously referred to as
Pharaoh . The torrid love affair between one of the highest regarded Queens in history and that of
the phenomenal Julius Caesar is considered to be one of the most romantic and grand ones in the
world. Cecil B. Demille seems to agree in the trailer to his 1934 film Cleopatra . Maybe this
notion is true after all, but when falling head over heels with the idea of this romance, one tends to
overlook many disreputable components of the affair. One of those elements if ... Show more

An 1898 performance of Julius Caesar at Her Majesty s Theatre was reviewed by Percy Simpson
who described Calpurnia as a tragic character in her own right, a Cassandra like figure who
clearly foresees approaching disaster, but is powerless to prevent it. (2) Simpson further
described her performance; To her horror, Caesar demands his robe, Calpurnia kneels protesting,
but to no avail. For the remainder of the scene she sits in the chair at LC, a terrified witness to her
husband s folly. (3) Once again, Calpurnia is portrayed as a woman who experiences an inner
languish caused by being a witness to the torment her husband is made to go through.
Adrien Bonjour in his book The Structure of Julius Caesar, gives credit to Calpurnia for her
skill in not only trying to save Caesar, but in stopping him from losing his respect in from of his
fellow senators. Bonjour writes, Caesar has declared himself immovable. But Calpurnia, knowing
her lord, offers him a way out: call it my fear that keeps you in this house , suggests the tactful
wife, and Caesar complies immediately. (4) This is evidence of Calpurnia s willing submission of
insult being caused to her own reputation in order to preserve that of her husband.
It is sometimes disputed that the way Cleopatra s attraction towards Caesar was fueled by self

The Witches Have The Most Power In Macbeth
In Shakespeare s play The Tragedy of Macbeth, the witches held the most power when it came to
influencing others actions. The three repulsive ladies (witches) crossed paths with Macbeth and
manipulated him into believing a prophecy which caused the huge mess of this play. The prophecy
was that Macbethwould be king but so would Duncan s kids.
One reason the witches have the most power is because Macbeth went on this journey of self
destruction making him contemplate committing murder and treason. If it were done when tis
done, then twere well it were done quickly (l, 7, 1). This shows how Macbeth was thinking about
murdering Duncan. If th assassination could trammel up the consequence and catch with his

A Short Note On Clinical Mental Health Counseling
Sherene Phinizy
535 Excelsior Avenue
Croydon Pa 19021
I am applying to the MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am a good listener as well as an
overall thinker. I normally have a knack for taking a problem, looking at it then figuring out the
best way to solve it. My goal is to enter into a field that would enhance those skills as well as help
others. I would like to assist others in working out their issues so that they can move on from any
situation with a successful mindset. I do believe that others need help working through things that
hinder or cause a disruption in their daily functions. I am a cancer survivor and when I was in
the hospital I could not do a thing for myself. I was bedridden for a month. A social worker came
in the door and sat with me to figure out the best way to help me. I then realized two things. The
first one was that people sometimes need help to solve their problems and I needed a job that
was not too physical. Help is not a bad thing to need especially if it is done in a way to help you
better yourself. A human being needs someone to talk to or show them a way that they cannot see
at the time.
I was greatly influenced by my battle with cancer. I was very young at the time and my life was
just beginning. I had only been out of high school for a year. I would have never have thought I
would need my mother as much as I did. I was at the age when I was supposed to be finding
myself and my independence. At nineteen I was as helpless as a

The True Cost Of High School Dropouts Summary
What is the True Cost: High School Dropouts and their Effect
In today s society it has become even more crucial to obtain knowledge and graduate from high
school. In the article The True Cost of High School Dropouts Henry M. Levin and Cecilia E.
Rouse explain that the dropout rate imposes a heavy cost on the economy. Henry M. Levin is a
professor of economics and education at Columbia University. Cecilia E. Rouse is a professor of
economics and public affairs at Princeton University. She also was a member of President
Obama s Council of Economic Advisers from 2009 to 2011. This article was found on The New
York Times and was published Jan. 25th, 2012. They begin with stating the facts and giving
sources to build credibility. They then go into what is being done wrong and what needs to be
done in order to improve.
In their article, Levin and Rouse say that in the United states the dropout rate has fallen since the
1970s. They state that programs should be enforced to promote dropout prevention. While these
programs may be expensive, more high school graduates benefit the economy in the long run.
Throughout their article, statistics are given. This shows that Levin and Rouse have researched the
topic. For example, they state that only 21 states make it mandatory for students to attend high
school until they graduate or turn 18. Also, they say that only 7 out of 10 freshman will get high
school diplomas. This is shocking, being that an education is the foundation of

found in the home environment and its surroundings. It will define what is meant by the word risk
and it will describe how one is identified. In the essay, three risks from within the home will be
examined and there will be a discussion as to how frequently these risks occur. Penultimately, this

Finally, it will suggest useful means of crime prevention before concluding that suitable methods of

Gately et al. (2014) state that many offenders would not attempt to carry out a burglary on a house
which looked reasonably secure . This suggests that security cameras may be seen as a deterrence
to criminals.
It is also notable that victims of burglary often experience repeat victimisation. This is when the
same location, business, vehicle or household suffers more than one crime event over a specified
time period. The offence may be the same or a contrasting type (McLaughlin Muncie 2013, p.377).
One reason for this is because offenders know that victims will often replace what has been taken
by an insurance claim.
Strain theory could provide an explanation as to why an individual may carry out a burglary. The
theory developed by Robert Merton in 1968 presents that humans are relatively good. However,
certain situations drive an individual into doing bad things. Merton, (1968) argues that people who
cannot achieve socially approved goals through legitimate means will do so illegitimately because
of the strain that they feel. Merton, (1968) uses the American Dream to illustrate this. The
American Dream emphasises money, as well as success and individuals, are expected to achieve
this through education and hard work. Although, poverty and discrimination are factors which

Compare And Contrast The Blind Side Movie And Movie
It all depends on who you are, where you come from. The Blind Side is a film based on true
events about a boy named Michael who had a bad family life and nowhere to go. He was
discriminated against because of who he was, the color of his skin and what type of family he
had come from. The Tuohy family picked him up off the streets and took them in as their own. He
was then apart of their family and sent to school. In the film, The Blind Side, the director John Lee
Hancock kept some events the same as the historical event but changed a few details that had
occurred in real life in order to add excitement to the story.
In the story The Blind Side, many of the scenes from the movie are very similar to the happenings
in the historical event. One thing that was similar between the movie and the event was the fact
someone at Briarcrest High School talked people into letting Michel into the school. According to
the article The Blind Side (2009) , the football coach at Briarcrest, Hugh Freeze (referred to as
Burt Cotton in the movie), did encourage his colleagues to accept Michael s application. .
Additionally, the man who played Michael Oher and the actual Michael Oher himself were very
similar characters. In reality, Aaron, who plays him, has an appealing gentle giant presence.
(Gleiberman). In both the movie and real life both men seem to have a gentle, kind personality
making each of their appearances extremely similar. As you can see, both the real events and the

Pope Vs. Illinois Case Study
For this weeks discussion post I chose the Supreme Court case of Pope v. Illinois (1987). This
case has several values that make it significant in the field of obscenity and the First Amendment.
Referring back to Miller v. California and how it set the standard for identifying obscene material
not protected by the First Amendment, some portions are a bit more obscure than others. Take the
third or value prong of the three part test to determine whether the work, taken as a whole, lacks
serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value. Prior to this case it was unclear how to exactly
assess whether a work lacked serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value, but when two
attendants at adult bookstores were charged with obscenity under Illinois law by selling certain
magazines to undercover police, they moved to dismiss on grounds that the then current version of
the Illinois obscenity statute violated the First and Fourteenth Amendments. The judgein both trials
instructed the jury that in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This again reverts back to the First and Fourteenth Amendments, and a violation of non bias
objective judgement. This most certainly is a content based restriction, as the stat of Illinois was
claiming that the clerk violated a state criminal statute prohibiting the sale of obscene magazines.
This case would be considered a valid restriction of speech under Illinois state law because they
claim it unnecessary and of no interest for the general public, or community standard, to perches the
magazines. The irony in it all is that the Supreme Court overturned the initial ruling that the
community standard was inappropriate for determining whether a work had value . Another twist
is that this is considered symbolic speech as the clerks are expressing their political opinions of
freedom of speech by selling what would be considered obscene

An Analysis of Aldous Huxley s Brave New World
Is texting contemporary soma?: Teens and distracted driving Aldous Huxley s Brave New
World portrays a future dystopia in which all the inhabitants merely live for pleasure. All of the
characters focus on enjoying things in the moment rather than allow themselves to experience
unpleasant truths regarding the past or future. The society even denies death and encourages
children to laugh and play around dying people to desensitize the next generation. However, as
awful as Huxley s vision may be, some of the warped thinking of the characters in the book can
be paralleled with the real life mentality of teens who engage in distracted driving. Teens who
text while driving are solely focused upon their own pleasure, and show no concern for the
needs of others. They do not show care, compassion and concern for other drivers on the road,
but are solely obsessed with their own needs. They believe that their need to know about what
the cute guy in Latin class said is more important than sparing the person s life in the car in front
of them. Nearly nine in 10 teenage drivers have engaged in distracted driving behaviors such as
texting or talking on a cellphone although most of them know that their actions increase their risk
of crashing (Copeland 2010). Nearly one in four crashes involve cell phone conversations, and
texting drivers contribute to more than 100,000 crashes each year overall ( Takata joins forces,
2011). Most teens who engage in distracted driving do not

downfall arises as he decides to conspire on his own in order to kill Claudius: My thoughts be

proves his own incapability of being rational while interacting with his uncle. Moreover, he also
condemns his own inability of taking action as he constantly fails to take neither moral nor
immoral actions. Hamlets words are similar to his words after the ghost informs him of his uncle s
treason, which questions Hamlet s willingness to kill his uncle. Hamlet is stuck between extreme
emotions of grief and desires for revenge which clearly shackle him and leave him enable to
execute any actual plan to murder Claudius. Furthermore, Hamlet hanging in between his

The main purpose of a tragedy is to provoke pity or fear in the reader or audience, then a kommos

or purge from those feelings of pity or fear, as the characterwhom faces tragedyfrom their faulty,

Aristotle also expresses the fact that the tragic act that occurs is best to occur in a family to

seen in Medea, King Lear, and All My Sons. In the tragedy Medea, Jason is faced with realization
of the death of his twin sons who were killed by their, mother, Medea; he falls into agony as he
laments, inspiring a katharsis in the reader. Jason cheated on Medea, assuming that it was okay
with her, saying, ...I/ Grew tired of your bed and felt the need for a new bride (18). Jason desired
a bride of title so that his current children and future children could be brought up worthily (26).
He betrayed his family and Medea s love for another woman, causing Medea began to seek
revenge. She decides to do two acts: kill her husband s fiancГ©e and kill her own sons. ...I shall

Britain’s Support for Widening but NOT Deepening the...
Over the last 30 years Britain has consistently supported the enlargement of the European Union
(EU). Both the former Conservative, and the current Labour governments have always presented
favourable rhetoric for the widening of the EU. This apparent consensus on European policy belies
the fractious nature of opinions in Britain over the future of Europe. The rough undercurrents of
Britain s contingent support for the intergovernmental vision of the EU reflects just how complex
and protracted the political discourse on Europe has become. We often refer to Britain as a single
actor, but references to Britain are simply a convenient abbreviation used to represent the dominant
political discourse of the elites, such as the political... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the central themes of the EU debate revolves around the issue of national sovereignty. The
European project has always involved, to a certain extent, the relinquishing of some national
sovereignty, but in trying to persuade Europe s established nations to cede powers to a European
centre, often without the consultation of the general public, has created a growing eurosceptic
backlash, a narrative that has been well received in Britain.
Many of Europe s founding fathers (such as Monnet and Schumann) shared a federalist vision for
Europe. They hoped for a European polity which would cooperate for the greater good, above the
national divisions that had caused such calamity in the recent past. Convinced in that a strong
supranational body, with the ability to make executive decisions, was vital for peace and prosperity
that goes beyond what can be achieved with treaties between nations (Ash 2005). The eurosceptics
agree about the value of cooperation in many areas, but see this best achieved through
intergovernmental decision making, with governments from various nations negotiating in their
own country s interest. They are sceptical about a supranational style organisation, often because
they see this as an intrusion into a nation states sovereignty (Ash 2005). British Sovereignty has
always been a touchstone issue and has often made the language of the debate

The Evolution Of Hockey Sticks
Hockey sticks are definitely the most important part of any player s equipment. The long history
of hockey sticks have undergone much evolution. At the beginning they were simple wooden
branches, but in present day they range from fiberglass to composite. Most hockey sticks
nowadays range from $100 200. There are four different sizes of hockey sticks, youth, junior,
intermediate, and senior. There are also many different blade patterns, coming from different
brands sponsors. Blade patterns also key into different brands, the four main hockey stick brands
include Bauer, CCM, Reebok, and Warrior. There are also a few other brands such as STX, Graf,
and Easton. The sticks I would recommend are the Bauer Supreme MX3, the CCM RBZ stage 2,

Functionalist Perspective on Dating, Courting, and Other...
Dating, courting, and other pre marriage arrangements are practices that are influenced by the time
period, social conditions and constructs, biology, cultural norms, and institutional structures that
surround people. Dating has changed a lot in the past century. In the 1920 s to 1940 s, dating
involved a more informal dating. For the first time there were no chaperones on dates between
males and females. The dates required no formal commitment to each other and there was more
freedom. Previously the community and church established the dating rules, but now peers institute
the rules. Instead of the man coming to the women s house, They went out where it required money.
It is said that there was a control issue surrounding the change... Show more content on

To understand dating, courting, and other pre marriage arrangements we must look at a particular
time and place to understand the ways in which a society works and therefore how the people in
that society go about activities like dating. In modern America, dating has emerged as an activity
that is not often regulated by adults as it once had been. There are many explanations for this
change including the change in lifestyle that industry and technological advances have brought
about. Sociologists point out that the idea of romantic love did not even exist prior to the industrial
revolution. Marriage was an institution that allowed a man and woman to enhance their chances
of survival and quality of life with one another. Romantic love as we now know it did not exist
as a concept. After the industrial revolution when people did not depend on each other as much to
survive, the idea of romantic love first appeared. After this time some feminists and sociologists
point out that marriage and motherhood was used to subjugate women to men and to keep them
out of the work force. Dating at a young age is characterized as fun and is done for
companionship rather than as a serious activity for the purpose of finding a lifelong mate. Group
dating is a way in which students have been able to move away from traditional, two person dating
which implies intimacy to them. Doing things in groups saves

Small Business Idea Paper There are numerous factors affecting the type of business organizations
that an owner should form, so that it is most beneficial for him and the product or services
provided. In this paper, the four business structures are evaluated and the association of the legal,
tax and accounting implications with the different structures are also discussed. Suppose that the
government has released funds to set up small businesses, I would set up a language services
company. The services will include translation, transcription, interpretation, copywriting and

It is, therefore, subjected to double taxation , which means that profits are taxed and shareholders
are taxed on the dividends that are paid on the stock they own and any profits they receive on
shares of stock that they sell (Tiwary, 2008).
The ownership claim in corporations is defined by the amount of shares owned and can be easily
transferred by selling off the shares. Because individual share can be easily bought, raising capital
is easier for a corporation than the other business structures, particularly in S corporations. In
corporations, the stockholders are protected from the liabilities and debts of the company, although
they pay higher taxes on the dividends received from the company. A corporation also ensures the
continuity of life if one owner dies. A corporation has more legal issues to handle than the other
business structures because it is large and publicly traded. Everything needs to be documented and
filed and general meetings must be held at least per annum. All actions affecting the operations of
the company, such as mergers and establishing new business ventures, must be discussed, recorded
and filed. This also means that because corporations trade publicly, they are required to provide
extensive financial statements such as the balance sheets, income statement, cash flow statement
and retained earnings statement. They need these statements to attract more investors and increase
capital. Corporations are also liable to the SOX

Creon as the Hero of Sophocles Antigone Essay
Creon as the Hero of Antigone
The dilemma of identifying the true hero, or heroine, of Sophocles Antigone has tortured
students for years. It is indeed a difficult decision to make. The basis for this decision is what the
reader perceives to be Sophocles dramatic issue in this play. The dramatic issue of the play is
twofold: Antigone is a fanatic who is driven by her religious fever to bury the body of her criminal
brother, Polyneices, against the edict of Creon. In the second part, Sophocles shows how the new
King Creon s refusal to change his decision in the face of adversity is admirable, but at the same
time his political morals end up destroying his family. His fall from grace is tragic, whereas
Antigone s fall is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It will be good to die, so doing (burying Polyneices). I shall lie by his side, loving him as he has
loved me; I shall be a criminal but a religious one (Soph. Ant. 82 85), she confides to Ismene, her
sister. This is her attitude throughout the play: bravado in the face of the death sentence she
brought upon herself, unreasonably enthusiastic about the prospect of her own death. Even at
the ultimate moment, she has no fear of what death will bring. When I come to that other world
my hope is strong that my coming will be a welcome to my father, and dear to you, my mother,
and dear to you, my brother deeply loved (Soph. Ant. 951 955). According to Jebb, she is
possessed by a burning indignation (Jebb 1902 p.12) and it is this passion which clouds her
vision. Antigone s defense that she is acting in the name of the gods has no basis in the reality of
the play because there is no evidence of the gods taking part in the underlying actions of the play.
Antigone s zealous behavior is the antithesis of Creon s logical arguments. When Antigone is
arrested and brought before Creon, her statements allude to a conspiracy set up against her:
Antigone: I know that I will die of course I do even if you had not doomed me by proclamation.
(Here she believes that Creon

The Benefits of Chain Stores Explained in In Virginia...
Every couple of months, I go to Trader Joe s. I enjoy their organic products and the prices as
well. Trader Joe s is not in Augusta, but in Columbia, SC. I really like Trader Joe s, and like me,
consumers do not mind traveling far to their favorite chain stores. In Virginia Postrel s essay, In
Praise of Chain Stores, she lists the pros and cons of chain stores. I believe chain stores help the
city of Augusta. Chain stores have turned Augusta into an exciting place by bringing many
products to consumers, making visitors feel at home, and helping the economy. First of all, Chain
stores give consumers an array an options. Postrel mentions in her essay, Chain stores do more
than bargain down prices from suppliers or divide fixed costs... Show more content on

These stores bring the soldiers from different areas, by reminding them of their favorite stores.
When my family came from New York, they talked about the food down here. One of the places
that was mentioned was Huddle House. Huddle House is a diner that serves breakfast, lunch and
dinner all day. Eating there reminded my cousin of growing up in Alabama. Being able to shop at
chain stores, helps tourists enjoy their favorite product or food. Thirdly, chain stores help the
economy. The author says that, Chains let people in a city of 250,000 enjoy retail amenities once
available to a huge metropolitan center. Costco is a warehouse that has members like Sam s Club.
When Costco opened in Augusta in 2011, the community was excited. Selling discounted item like
tires, cars, and bulk food items. Costco stays packed with customers. The Augusta Chronicle
reported that by having a Costco in the area, people are traveling from Columbia, SC and other
places that are much smaller than Augusta. The Augusta Chronicle also reported that a Costco
employee earns twelve dollars an hour. This is great with minimum wage being seven dollars and
twenty five cents an hour. Chain stores usually are very popular and keep customers coming back.
The more people that shop, the more employees need to be hired. Jobs are created when these big
retail stores open. Discounts are given to employees which can benefit both parties. In conclusion,

Everyone Focused On Zuckerberg s Hoodie
Designer clothing, luxury cars, flashy handbags. These are just a few of the status symbols that
differentiate the rich from the poor. These items are often used to determine the who s who in
today s society by showing off wealth and status. Although others should not be based solely on
their income, this judgement is sadly commonplace. The rich and the poor are segregated both
by accident and on purpose in many situations and the lower class is the one that deals with the
brunt of that discrimination. As the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, the upper class loses
familiarity with the problems that typical Americans face (Palacios). Two articles that highlight
this issue are Why is Everyone Focused on Zuckerberg s Hoodie by Somini Sengupta and The
Logic of Stupid Poor People by Tressie McMillan Cottom. In Sengupta s article she discusses the
simple, yet iconic hoodie often worn by Mark Zuckerberg and why it is so much more than it
seems. She goes into the many theories why he may wear it and has a twist ending by alluding it to
the shooting of Trayvon Martin (230). In Cottom s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

personable and relatable to the reader. Some examples of this is when she explains that
Respectability rewards are a crap shoot (1013) or when she starts the essay by declaring We
hates us some poor people (1011). By using casual language and slang speech such as this, it
makes Cottom seem like any normal, everyday person you would have a conversation with at the
mall or in line at the grocery store. The realism portrayed by her speech is an effective way of
communicating her story of growing up in a poor family. Although in many parts of her essay she
does use advanced and technical vocabulary, the intermittent casual talk really helps keep the
audience focused on the issue at

Virtue And Justice In The Persian Letters By Montesquieu
The Persian Letters by Montesquieu describe the travels to France done by Persian noblemen,
Uzbec and Rica, in search of wisdom. The letters that they write back to their home in Persia,
discuss the European way of life in comparison to their own culture. Montesquieu uses the two
travelers disorienting view of European culture as a way to criticize aspects of his own nation at
the time. A major conflict in the book is how Uzbec s strong admiration for virtue and justice can
be hypocritical and lead to destructive outcomes. Uzbec s virtue and justice is shown to be
hypocritical through his actions. He goes on a trip to hide from his problems leaving his wives
behind and forcing them to stay virtuous to him. He constantly refers to their virtue... Show more

Uzbec is assured of his youngest wife Roxane s virtue, I cannot, Roxane, doubt that you love me
(Montesquieu 1973, 35). Yet it turns out that she is the instigator of the unrest back at home.
She is the one who betrayed Uzbec. The wife whose virtue he believed in the most is the one
who had deceived him from the beginning. Yes, I have deceived you; I have bribed your
eunuchs, I have played upon your jealousy, and I have managed to make of your dreadful
seraglio an abode of delights and pleasures (Montesquieu 1973, 212). This declaration showed a
glimpse into the true feelings of Roxane. Roxane in the end commits suicide in the last chapter
and writes her last letter to Uzbec, And you, who seem born only to deny all your senses and to
resent your very desires, eternal victims of modesty and decorum, why cannot I have you
brought in great numbers to this unhappy seraglio, so that I may witness your terror at all the
blood I am about to spill here! (Montesquieu 1973, 225) In her last letter, she explains her reason
in committing suicide is to spite Uzbec. That was a devastating event to happen and yet Uzbec
was too far away to do anything about it, virtue was not able to save his wives. It only brought

Personal Narrative-Mother-Daughter Relationship
for the past three years, my uncle began to fight for custody and then the mom did not allow the
child any visiting. There are many reasons why he chose to fight for his daughter and they were
personal, but definitely reasonable. At first the daughter still agreed to come back for the summer
and always enjoyed her time. She would see her sibling, and enjoy camping. She never wanted to
go back to her mom and always cried when she had to leave. Recently, the mom began
brainwashing their daughter. The mom is extremely unhealthy and has chosen to do many
inappropriate things which my uncle has proof of. The mom always tells the little girl to be nasty
towards her father when they talk on the phone. She verbally spouts off words that an eleven year
old should not even know, while my uncle can hear the motherin the background telling hear what

Shock, Hemorrhagic And Non Hemorrhagic
Shock is described as a state of hypoperfusion of the organs and tissues, which results in cellular
dysfunction and cell death. There are many varieties of shock, but for the purpose of this essay I
will focus on hypovolemic shock. The term hypovolemic means low volume; this term in and of
itself tells us what the root cause of this form of shock is, low bloodvolume. There are two
different types of hypovolemic shock, hemorrhagic and non hemorrhagic. I will be discussing the
possible causes, signs, symptoms, and treatment options for the hemorrhagic type. I will also
explain what health care providers in the field should be looking for to determine whether the
patient is in a state of compensated or decompensating shock. Compensated shock is when the body
is using all of it s resources to maintain perfusion but in the later stages of shock the patient will
decompensate, this is when the body s attempts at maintaining perfusion are beginning to fail.
Recognizing the signs and symptoms of hypovolemic shock early is vitally important! The first
thing that emergency medical providers should remember is that just because you can t see bleeding
does not mean it is not there. Hemorrhagic shock can be missed if the care provider is
hyperfocused on symptoms like low blood pressure, which only becomes evident after the patient
has already started de compensating. A symptom that can be seen earlier on, while the patient is
still in a compensated state is decreased

House Of The Scorpion Character Analysis
In the story House of the Scorpion, written by Nancy Farmer, the main character is Matt Alacran.
The main setting is in the future in the opium fields and Atlzan. In the beginning of the story, we
meet Matt in Celia s house. The main conflict in the book is Matt being a clone, the whole entire
book Matt worries about being a cloneand that peoplewill know and what they will do. The
solution to the conflict is that all the Alacran died and he is now a real person since El Patron died.
In the story Tam Lin was a huge impact in Matt s life. Tam Lin was a kind hearted person to
because he was the only grownup male in the whole book that treated Matt like a regular human.
Also he cared and protected him unlike anyone else in the book. Tam Lin also was a father
figure to Matt because Matt is a clone and has no mom or dad, but Celia brought him up, so he
thinks of her as his mom, and Tam Lin was with Matt for around ten years and he defended him
from the Alacran and protected him from El Patron, he even saved him when Matt was supposed
to die and helped him get to Atlzan. Although Tam Lin was a nice and kind person, he was a
murder, terrorist, and a horrible person when he worked for El Patron. I know this because farm
patrol talked about him about how he killed 20 little kids while trying to kill the prime minister of
Scotland, also Tam Lin admitted that he couldn t remember how many people he killed.
A major event in Matt s life that changed his life forever was that he

  • 2. The Fairy Tales Bear Negative And Repulsive Traits, Such... The stepmother s in fairy tales bear negative and repulsive traits, such as vanity, jealousy and pride. The character of the wicked stepmother has gained notoriety as one of the evilest villains found in fairy tales, often set up as a foil to the innocent and virtuous stepdaughter whom she mistreats and who ultimately gains victory over her. Combined with these traits are their knowledge of magicand sorcery. Despite her knowledge of the supernatural, her beauty is a fading trait. Stepmothers are comparable to wild animals and supernatural beings that treat children wickedly. In the past, the stepmother s role was to replace the child s biological mother who had died. Many of these bad examples are seen in such stories as Cinderella ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gilbert and Gubar argue that the stepmother in Snow White is indeed driven by want of an unfeminine life of stories and story telling ; each of her three attempts on life become three tales or plots which she invents, and through such subversive story telling , she attempts to control the narrative of her own life. Therefore, through their overwhelming influence on the plot of the tales, these women show again their strength and power and pit themselves against the fragile, passive heroines. Another way in which the Brothers Grimm emphasize the evil nature of the stepmother is through her association with witchcraft. The Brothers Grimm played a great part in contributing to the construction of the evil stepmother character in fairy tales. Through the editorial changes they made, and their emphasis on the monstrous, cruel and unnatural aspects of her character, they transformed the figure of the stepmother into the ultimate fairy tale villain whose legacy continues to this day. , the stepmother has also become a scapegoat, a terrifying figure who goes against all the expectations of women and motherhood, but who is nevertheless herself a victim of the situation and the society she finds herself in. • 4. What Is The Meaning Of The Literary Analysis Of Psalm 42 Not only did psalm 42 stand out immediately to me for its literary elements within the first verse, but for its poetic style and language as well. This psalm is a lyrical one with plenty of emotion and literary figures. The latter ranges from similes to parallelism and everything in between, all accumulating to form the psalm s meaning. To begin with, I will point out that the psalm is told through first person point of view. The speaker or persona is presentthroughout the entire psalm, using I and my to describe his thoughts, feelings, and memories. One instance is in the beginning stanzawhere he asks himself, [when] shall I come and behold the face of God? (Ps. 42.2). Already this tells the reader that this will be a very personal psalm, allowing insight into the speaker s mind. The speaker is filled with anguish, but also strongly desires God s presence in his life. The setting of this psalm takes place in both the past and present. In the past, the speaker mentions how I went with the throng and led them in procession to the house of God (Ps.42.4). The footnotes provide information about how the speaker recollects his memories of the Temple, seemingly homesick for its protection. The present location for the speaker is from the land of Jordan and of Hermon, from Mount Mizar (Ps.42.6). As the footnotes point out, this is far from Jerusalem. God is addressed directly in the psalm as the speaker declares that his soullongs for you, O God, (Ps.42.1). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Informal social control basically referred to our conformity to the normals and values of the society and adoption of a particular belief system, which we learn through the process of socialization . • 6. Essay on Democracy in America Democracy is a unique type of government, and the purpose of this essay is to illustrate the strengths and weaknesses that a democratic government provides. I will detail that many components of this type of society are both strengths and weakness as each component has beneficial aspects as well as unavoidable pitfalls. A democracy is a government by the people, in which the power is vested in the people themselves. The people then elect representatives who conduct their power in a free electoral system. The Declaration of Independence, which says that all men are created equal, was written on the premise of a democracy. According to John Locke, who wrote The Social Contract, before acknowledging that an individual is part of a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The laws of society are applied equally to everyone, but equitable to the circumstances. The same holds true for taxes: those with higher incomes pay a larger percentage of their income in taxes than those in lower tax brackets. Although not equally applied, the tax laws are equitable. Democratic laws are written in such a way as to allow interpretation depending upon circumstances. A thousand circumstances, independent of the will of man, facilitate the maintenance of a democratic republic in the United States Initially, laws are difficult to design because lawmakers can t think of every possibility, every scenario, and every obstacle that may present itself in the democracy. Despite these difficulties, laws keep society together and provide unity for the citizens. Advantages for creating laws, include, but are not limited to, providing direction for the collection of taxes, declaring clear expectations for compliance and punishment of citizens and elimination of chaos. A weakness of democracy is the Tyranny of the Majority . This is an inevitable pitfall, because in a democracy, the power is vested foremost in the people the constituting the society itself. Alexis de Tocqueville wrote on this concept: Democratic laws generally tend to promote the welfare of the greatest possible number; for they emanate from the majority of the citizens, who are subject to error, but who cannot have an interest opposed to ... The Americans lost one aircraft carrier, one destroyer, 150 aircraft, and 307 personnel. Historically, Midway has been considered the turning point in the Pacific theater of World War II. Japan s shipbuilding and pilot training programs were unable to keep pace in replacing their losses, while the U.S. steadily increased its output in both areas that inevitably led denying Japan the ability to achieve its limited policy objective: to destroy the American carrier force in the Pacific and use the Aleutians and Midway Island as stepping stones for a Japanese... Nimitz was able to position the fleet out of the Japanese carrier s striking range and hide fall under the protection of land based air at Midway. On the Japanese side of intelligence, Yamamoto believed to have the element of surprise at Midway, which was thought to draw the Americans out of Pearl Harbor. Yamamoto had numerical naval superiority in the Pacific to defeat the Americans at sea but remained unaware that the code breakers ascertained its operational and strategic plan to attack at Midway. Additionally, Yamamoto believed that two of the American carriers were sunk at Coral Sea, which the Yorktown was hastily being repaired in Pearl Harbor. The book could be an influence to kids to show them the importance of having good sportsmanship and not being too hard on yourself when you don t win. Next, it says Mia learns quickly that there will be times when she will score a goal and those when she will not, but playing the game is the most fun of all. When first responders are responding to a call of possible chemical suicide, they have to approach it with extreme caution and be very aware of the situation. For example, a situation of chemical suicide in a car, the person might post a sign in the window of the car as a warning to people and first responders on scene. (FEMA.Gov). The poem, believed to be first written in 1000 CE, though probably around at least 300 years older, is a story of a Geatish hero by the name of Beowulf who travels to the Danes to earn valor and heroism for his name. In the epic there are many examples of what Thomas Hill refers to as peculiar spiritual atmosphere , this is the combination of both pagan and Christian beliefs and values in the epic. Every reference in the poem which touches on religion can be understood in these terms except for one lines 179 83 in which the poet apparently condemns Hrothgar and the Danes for idol worship (Hill 202). The epic holds the values of Pagan ancestors and their Christian beliefs to be values that should be upheld in their most important traditions. Even if their ancestors weren t Christian, they still followed their value system. Many of the characters in the epic seem to talk in a monotheistic perspective that the Germanic warriors of the time would not have used. This shows evidence that the epic was recorded by a monk who held strong Christian values. For example, after the warriors finished their sea voyage to the Danes, they praised God for giving them safe journey, while the warriors of the time would have been more likely to praise either Thor or Odin, gods of the religion practiced at the time in that area. A story of adventure, mystery, and the honest against the malevolent... the book series The Castaways of the Flying Dutchman had all of this. Brian Jacques wrote the series, with the first book published in 2001 and the last one in 2006, spanning over a three book series. The first one is the one that named the series, the second book called The Angel s Command, and the author named the final installment The Voyage of Slaves. The series follows two characters, a boy named Ben and his dog, Ned, as they travel through the world on land and sea, facing diabolical people and plans. The two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, the author based the legend in the story off of a real sailor s tale. As previously stated, the legend this uses features the ghost ship The Flying Dutchman, a name that people have used over and over again. Although Jacques changed parts of the legend a bit to fit the series, it introduces the reader to a whole new world of stories. Adapting a legend adds a whole new depth to the story, as it makes the narrative so appealing. Personally, I had never heard of this legend before, but the first novel actually made me want to learn more about that time period and the legends mariners would tell of the mysteries of the sea. Known for his skill in writing the Redwall books, Brian Jacques carried this style over into the Castaways series. He uses vivid figurative language, exquisite vocabulary, exceptional dialogue techniques, and creates memorable characters all throughout the whole series. In The Angel s Command, the very first sentence of the book reads, Great and golden, like an enormous, newly minted doubloon, the Caribbean sun presided over the waterfront. From merely the first sentence, the reader can see how amazing Jacques writes, using similes and excellent vocabulary. Yet he doesn t write with words that no one can even read, let alone understand. Jacques does a fine job writing with words that are the slightest bit complex that it increases the reader s vocabulary, yet they know what they are reading. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Larkspur Middle School Research Paper Do you remember the pep rallies from sixth grade? Remember how we sixth graders could not wait until seventh grade to sit on the bleachers instead of the gym floor? Back in 2013, Larkspur Middle School got rid of pep rallies since it was a safety hazard to have too many people in the gym at the same time. Instead, they replaced pep rallies with spirit parades, so teams parade around the school for about fifteen minutes and basically back up the whole school day. I think the best way to bring school spirit back at Larkspur is to get rid of spirit parades, bring pep rallies back, and hold them outside. First of all, spirit parades take too long and the hallway gets crowded quickly. When all the classes were lined up along the lockers, it always got hot so fast. We had to stand up for about fifteen minutes while being squished together. For example, it took a while for it to start, and it only lasted for about five minutes. Spirit parades effected teachers, too. These parades cut into valuable class time. Plus, teachers had to wait for their students who were in the parade to come back. Spirit parades were probably worst for elective teachers and eight grade students and teachers. First elective classes like academic support,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main reason why Larkspur had to get rid of pep rallies was because the gym was too packed. There were not enough seats in the gym, so sixth graders had to sit on the floor, while seventh and eighth graders had to sit on the bleachers. The crowdedness of the gym really had an effect on the departure of leaving the gym. All the classes had to leave one by one through the maze of all the students. This led to the fire department safety rule of only having a certain number or people in one place at one time since it is a fire hazard. If a fire were to occur in the gym, then there would only be about seven exits. These exits would not be easy to access since the pep rallies were only on one side of the ... • 21. The National Cemetery Administration ( Nca ) Throughout history, many monumental events led to the development of the National Cemetery Administration (NCA). Ricketts (2014) notes that the mission of the NCA is to provide Veterans with an honorary burial space in national cemeteries. They place a heavy significance on paying tribute to the Veteran s services and sacrifices. In order to better understand the efforts carried out by the NCA, it is beneficial to review its history and development. According to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs ( History and development of the national cemeteryadministration , 2015), the origin of National cemeteries began during the Civil War. Prior to the establishment of such places, fallen soldiers were often buried on battlefields, nearby campsites, or taken to the families chosen cemetery. However as the war progressed, the chaos and limited land titles led to quick and inadequate burials. Neither the Union nor the Confederacy were equipped with the awareness and resources to properly bury their soldiers . In 1861, Congress provided the Union with benefits by appointing the Army s Quartermaster General as a conductor of burial responsibilities. This order worked to ensure that there would be a record of all burials. It also stated that a graveshould be marked with the placement of a wooden headboard. Although these painted headboards resembled a memorial of the fallen soldier, they quickly succumbed to environmental elements ( History and development of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Analysis of †Patterns’ Written by Amy Lowell Essay Amy Lowell is an American imagist poet who uses descriptive language to create specific images in a readers mind. Set in the Victorian era (1800 s,) the dramatic monologue Patterns explores the restrictions of unmarried women in society and the desire for freedom. My view of these issues is that of a feminist reader living in a democratic modern day society, where men and women live in a state of equality and have the right to express their opinions. A feminist reading focuses on the specific treatment of women. Through Lowell s wondrous use of the poetic techniques, primarily visual imagery (symbolism, repetition, contrasts) and poetic voice (persona and tone,) a modern day feminist reader s negative views of the restricted lifestyles... This develops the idea that her future with this man as a married woman provided a stable lifestyle where she would not have to live by the rigid patterns of society, reinforcing a modern day feminist reader s view of the expectations and restrictions placed on unmarried women during the Victorian era. There is a distinct contrast between appearance and reality, which works to reinforce the idea of confining individualistic behaviours to retain the pattern of society. In stanza two, she says that tripping by in high heeled, ribboned shoes/ (there is) not a softness anywhere about (her) (lines 16 and 17) when she s wearing only whalebone and brocade (line 18.) The term whalebone refers to a whalebone corset, which is a very hard material that is restrictive to movement. By describing her actions as tripping, a modern day feminist reader is reinforced that she is not coping in her current lifestyle where she is limited to living in a strict manner. In the next stanza, she says that underneath (her) stiffened gown/ Is the softness of a woman (lines 32 and 33.) This develops the idea that the way she dresses is a deceiving appearance, because she is not as stiff and stable on the inside as she comes across on the outside. Deep down she is soft and sad, in mourning of the loss of her lover, yet she cannot express these emotions due to the expectations and restrictions of women during the Victorian era. ... The Importance Of Parent Adolescent Sexual Communication Let s Talk About Sex: The Importance of Parent Adolescent Sexual Communication Communication between parents and adolescents is important when educating teens on how to practice safer sex. Roni Caryn Rabin in her article, Why Parents Should Have the Sex Talk With Their Children, provides evidence as to how and why these conversations are important for healthy adolescent sexual development. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 60 percent of sexually active high school students did not use any birth controlthe last time they had intercourse. This article emphasizes that these numbers can be reduced if parents simply engage in a conversation with their teens about sex. Furthermore, factors such as being uncomfortable or nervous about talking to their parents and fears that parents will over react play a key role in why parents and their children do not have a safe sextalk (Rabin, 2015). Over all, Rabin stresses that this topic is important to address regularly in order to promote safe sex and healthy relationships in teens. However, after reviewing this article, there are four aspects that must be acknowledged in order to educate parents on how to engage in conversations about sex in the most effective way. First and foremost, Rabin (2015) states in her article that teens who communicated with their parents about sex were more likely to communicate with their sexual partners and more likely to delay sexual activity. My goal is to enter into a field that would enhance those skills as well as help others. I would like to assist others in working out their issues so that they can move on from any situation with a successful mindset. I do believe that others need help working through things that hinder or cause a disruption in their daily functions. I am a cancer survivor and when I was in the hospital I could not do a thing for myself. I was bedridden for a month. A social worker came in the door and sat with me to figure out the best way to help me. I then realized two things. The first one was that people sometimes need help to solve their problems and I needed a job that was not too physical. Help is not a bad thing to need especially if it is done in a way to help you better yourself. A human being needs someone to talk to or show them a way that they cannot see at the time. I was greatly influenced by my battle with cancer. I was very young at the time and my life was just beginning. I had only been out of high school for a year. While these programs may be expensive, more high school graduates benefit the economy in the long run. Throughout their article, statistics are given. This shows that Levin and Rouse have researched the topic. For example, they state that only 21 states make it mandatory for students to attend high school until they graduate or turn 18. (2014) state that many offenders would not attempt to carry out a burglary on a house which looked reasonably secure . This suggests that security cameras may be seen as a deterrence to criminals. It is also notable that victims of burglary often experience repeat victimisation. This is when the same location, business, vehicle or household suffers more than one crime event over a specified time period. The offence may be the same or a contrasting type (McLaughlin Muncie 2013, p.377). One reason for this is because offenders know that victims will often replace what has been taken by an insurance claim. Strain theory could provide an explanation as to why an individual may carry out a burglary. The theory developed by Robert Merton in 1968 presents that humans are relatively good. However, certain situations drive an individual into doing bad things. Merton, (1968) argues that people who cannot achieve socially approved goals through legitimate means will do so illegitimately because of the strain that they feel. The Blind Side is a film based on true events about a boy named Michael who had a bad family life and nowhere to go. He was discriminated against because of who he was, the color of his skin and what type of family he had come from. The Tuohy family picked him up off the streets and took them in as their own. He was then apart of their family and sent to school. In the film, The Blind Side, the director John Lee Hancock kept some events the same as the historical event but changed a few details that had occurred in real life in order to add excitement to the story. In the story The Blind Side, many of the scenes from the movie are very similar to the happenings in the historical event. One thing that was similar between the movie and the event was the fact someone at Briarcrest High School talked people into letting Michel into the school. According to the article The Blind Side (2009) , the football coach at Briarcrest, Hugh Freeze (referred to as Burt Cotton in the movie), did encourage his colleagues to accept Michael s application. . This case has several values that make it significant in the field of obscenity and the First Amendment. Referring back to Miller v. California and how it set the standard for identifying obscene material not protected by the First Amendment, some portions are a bit more obscure than others. Take the third or value prong of the three part test to determine whether the work, taken as a whole, lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value. Prior to this case it was unclear how to exactly assess whether a work lacked serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value, but when two attendants at adult bookstores were charged with obscenity under Illinois law by selling certain magazines to undercover police, they moved to dismiss on grounds that the then current version of the Illinois obscenity statute violated the First and Fourteenth Amendments. An Analysis of Aldous Huxley s Brave New World Is texting contemporary soma?: Teens and distracted driving Aldous Huxley s Brave New World portrays a future dystopia in which all the inhabitants merely live for pleasure. All of the characters focus on enjoying things in the moment rather than allow themselves to experience unpleasant truths regarding the past or future. The society even denies death and encourages children to laugh and play around dying people to desensitize the next generation. However, as awful as Huxley s vision may be, some of the warped thinking of the characters in the book can be paralleled with the real life mentality of teens who engage in distracted driving. Teens who text while driving are solely focused upon their own pleasure, and show no concern for the needs of others. They do not show care, compassion and concern for other drivers on the road, but are solely obsessed with their own needs. They believe that their need to know about what the cute guy in Latin class said is more important than sparing the person s life in the car in front of them. This is due to the fact that it allowed the larger components to be removed from the mixture first. In removing the largest components of the mixture first, it allowed more ease when applying the other three methods of separation to the mixture. This is due to the fact that the larger component, in this case rocks, were not in the way of separating smaller components such as the iron filings and sand from the mixture. In the future, in order to improve this study, one could attempt to separate a mixture consisting of more than four different components. This would improve the study seeing as one would have a larger variety of components and therefore a larger variety of methods which could be used to separate the mixture. This would also help one to understand how the physical and chemical properties of the components in a mixture affect a larger variety of separation methods, not just those tested in this experiment. Another way in which this study could be improved is by experimenting more with the different states of matter. In this experiment, two of the three states of matter were experimented with. These states being solids and liquids. In the future, however, one should attempt to separate a mixture containing gases as well. Both the former Conservative, and the current Labour governments have always presented favourable rhetoric for the widening of the EU. This apparent consensus on European policy belies the fractious nature of opinions in Britain over the future of Europe. The rough undercurrents of Britain s contingent support for the intergovernmental vision of the EU reflects just how complex and protracted the political discourse on Europe has become. We often refer to Britain as a single actor, but references to Britain are simply a convenient abbreviation used to represent the dominant political discourse of the elites, such as the political... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the central themes of the EU debate revolves around the issue of national sovereignty. The European project has always involved, to a certain extent, the relinquishing of some national sovereignty, but in trying to persuade Europe s established nations to cede powers to a European centre, often without the consultation of the general public, has created a growing eurosceptic backlash, a narrative that has been well received in Britain. Many of Europe s founding fathers (such as Monnet and Schumann) shared a federalist vision for Europe. They hoped for a European polity which would cooperate for the greater good, above the national divisions that had caused such calamity in the recent past. Convinced in that a strong supranational body, with the ability to make executive decisions, was vital for peace and prosperity that goes beyond what can be achieved with treaties between nations (Ash 2005). The eurosceptics agree about the value of cooperation in many areas, but see this best achieved through intergovernmental decision making, with governments from various nations negotiating in their own country s interest. They are sceptical about a supranational style organisation, often because they see this as an intrusion into a nation states sovereignty (Ash 2005). Dating, courting, and other pre marriage arrangements are practices that are influenced by the time period, social conditions and constructs, biology, cultural norms, and institutional structures that surround people. Dating has changed a lot in the past century. In the 1920 s to 1940 s, dating involved a more informal dating. For the first time there were no chaperones on dates between males and females. The dates required no formal commitment to each other and there was more freedom. Previously the community and church established the dating rules, but now peers institute the rules. To understand dating, courting, and other pre marriage arrangements we must look at a particular time and place to understand the ways in which a society works and therefore how the people in that society go about activities like dating. In modern America, dating has emerged as an activity that is not often regulated by adults as it once had been. There are many explanations for this change including the change in lifestyle that industry and technological advances have brought about. Sociologists point out that the idea of romantic love did not even exist prior to the industrial revolution. Marriage was an institution that allowed a man and woman to enhance their chances of survival and quality of life with one another. Romantic love as we now know it did not exist as a concept. After the industrial revolution when people did not depend on each other as much to survive, the idea of romantic love first appeared. After this time some feminists and sociologists point out that marriage and motherhood was used to subjugate women to men and to keep them out of the work force. Dating at a young age is characterized as fun and is done for companionship rather than as a serious activity for the purpose of finding a lifelong mate. Group dating is a way in which students have been able to move away from traditional, two person dating which implies intimacy to them. Doing things in groups saves ... It is indeed a difficult decision to make. The basis for this decision is what the reader perceives to be Sophocles dramatic issue in this play. The dramatic issue of the play is twofold: Antigone is a fanatic who is driven by her religious fever to bury the body of her criminal brother, Polyneices, against the edict of Creon. In the second part, Sophocles shows how the new King Creon s refusal to change his decision in the face of adversity is admirable, but at the same time his political morals end up destroying his family. I shall lie by his side, loving him as he has loved me; I shall be a criminal but a religious one (Soph. Ant. 82 85), she confides to Ismene, her sister. This is her attitude throughout the play: bravado in the face of the death sentence she brought upon herself, unreasonably enthusiastic about the prospect of her own death. Even at the ultimate moment, she has no fear of what death will bring. When I come to that other world my hope is strong that my coming will be a welcome to my father, and dear to you, my mother, and dear to you, my brother deeply loved (Soph. Ant. 951 955). According to Jebb, she is possessed by a burning indignation (Jebb 1902 p.12) and it is this passion which clouds her vision. Antigone s defense that she is acting in the name of the gods has no basis in the reality of the play because there is no evidence of the gods taking part in the underlying actions of the play. Antigone s zealous behavior is the antithesis of Creon s logical arguments. These items are often used to determine the who s who in today s society by showing off wealth and status. Although others should not be based solely on their income, this judgement is sadly commonplace. The rich and the poor are segregated both by accident and on purpose in many situations and the lower class is the one that deals with the brunt of that discrimination. As the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, the upper class loses familiarity with the problems that typical Americans face (Palacios). • 48. Virtue And Justice In The Persian Letters By Montesquieu The Persian Letters by Montesquieu describe the travels to France done by Persian noblemen, Uzbec and Rica, in search of wisdom. The letters that they write back to their home in Persia, discuss the European way of life in comparison to their own culture. Montesquieu uses the two travelers disorienting view of European culture as a way to criticize aspects of his own nation at the time. A major conflict in the book is how Uzbec s strong admiration for virtue and justice can be hypocritical and lead to destructive outcomes. There are many varieties of shock, but for the purpose of this essay I will focus on hypovolemic shock. The term hypovolemic means low volume; this term in and of itself tells us what the root cause of this form of shock is, low bloodvolume. There are two different types of hypovolemic shock, hemorrhagic and non hemorrhagic. I will be discussing the possible causes, signs, symptoms, and treatment options for the hemorrhagic type. I will also explain what health care providers in the field should be looking for to determine whether the patient is in a state of compensated or decompensating shock. Compensated shock is when the body is using all of it s resources to maintain perfusion but in the later stages of shock the patient will decompensate, this is when the body s attempts at maintaining perfusion are beginning to fail. Recognizing the signs and symptoms of hypovolemic shock early is vitally important! The first thing that emergency medical providers should remember is that just because you can t see bleeding does not mean it is not there. Hemorrhagic shock can be missed if the care provider is hyperfocused on symptoms like low blood pressure, which only becomes evident after the patient has already started de compensating. A symptom that can be seen earlier on, while the patient is still in a compensated state is decreased ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
