This technical white paper provides an overview of Long Term Evolution (LTE):
1) LTE is being developed as the latest mobile network technology by 3GPP to improve end user throughput and latency. 2) LTE uses a new Evolved Packet Core network architecture and Evolved UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network, separating control plane and user plane functions. 3) LTE aims to provide downlink peak rates of 100Mbps and uplink of 50Mbps, low latency, and improved spectrum flexibility.
1) The document discusses GSM transport evolution and solutions to optimize transport of data over the Abis interface between radio base stations and the base station controller.
2) Ericsson's Packet Abis solution transmits all traffic in packets over Abis with minimal reformatting to efficiently transport bursty data. This can quadruple EGPRS performance without adding transmission capacity.
3) The solution provides methods for synchronizing radio base stations when using IP transport, including a highly stable oscillator calibrated over the packet network, to ensure stable frequency requirements of the air interface are met.
Time is everywhere but it's implementation in #5G is not easy. Unlike #4G, #TDD is more common in 5G especially in mid-bands [ #3.5Ghz (CBRS) and #Sub6Ghz ] to higher bands (as in mmWave) spectrums and also in spectrum overlays. TDD provides #spectrum efficiency but requires precision time synchronization.

8T8R antenna technology can help address challenges for LTE TDD deployment, such as higher propagation loss at higher frequencies and high indoor loss. 8T8R uses 8 transmit and 8 receive antennas to provide improved coverage and capacity over 4T4R. It can boost cell capacity by up to 40% and improve indoor coverage. Huawei's new 8T8R antenna solution supports frequencies from 2300MHz to 2600MHz and 3300MHz to 3800MHz, enabling flexible network configuration through soft split and beamforming functions.
Presented virtually by Andy Sutton, Principal Network Architect, BT Technology on 06 Aug 2020.
Andy provides an update and review of the transformational plans, capabilities and outcomes from 5G deployments in the UK. 5G networks are already enabling a step change in the range and capability of innovative applications from IoT to robotics. That pace of change is due to accelerate as 5G moves from its initial enhanced mobile broadband phase to deliver ultra-reliable and low latency communications along with massive machine type connectivity.

Technologies for future mobile transport networksITU
This presentation presents several technologies for future mobile transport networks using the seamless convergence of fiber and wireless access networks. We first present a flexible and efficient mobile fronthaul system for ultra-dense small cells using a convergence of fiber and millimeter-wave systems. We then present a simple and low cost optical system for simultaneous transmission of multiple heterogeneous wireless signals, such as multi-RATs, operators, mobile signals and fronthaul/backhaul signals, using subcarrier multiplexing intermediate frequency over fiber system and efficient data mapping and de-mapping algorithms. Finally, we present an efficient solution to provide high-speed communications to high-speed trains using a seamless convergence of wavelength-division multiplexing radio-over-fiber and linearly located linear cell systems.

I great privilege to end Ampleon Technical Conference 2021 (Nijmegen, Netherlands) with a keynote contribution on what makes Telco tick and more on what to expect from real 5G. It was as well more than 20 years since I had seen many of my old Philips colleagues (now Ampleon) which made this event very special for me as well. Of course, also super cool to see the innovation level and relevance to our deployed RAN infrastructure.
Microwave radio technology offers various configuration options that can impact key factors like capacity, reliability, and cost. All-indoor radios typically provide the highest reliability due to faster repair times, but they may have higher initial costs. Split mount configurations combine indoor and outdoor units, balancing reliability with lower costs. The best configuration depends on specific needs and factors like frequency band, distances, capacity demands, and whether indoor space is available. Higher power radios can reduce total cost of ownership over time regardless of configuration.
The document provides a technical overview of 3GPP LTE (Long Term Evolution), including:

IRJET - Display for Crew Station of Next Generation Main Battle TankIRJET Journal
This document describes a proposed display system for the crew station of a next generation main battle tank. The system aims to make battlefield surveillance unmanned by installing multiple cameras on the tank's turret and transmitting the video to a display unit in the hull. A Raspberry Pi is used to capture video from the cameras and transmit the data to a Smart Display Unit via Ethernet. This allows surveillance of the battlefield without crew in the turret, reducing risks. The single Smart Display Unit replaces multiple displays, addressing space constraints in the tank. Experimental results found that transmitting compressed video from the Raspberry Pi to the display unit in real-time via Ethernet is feasible for unmanned battlefield surveillance.

The MR58 is a three-radio, 802.11n access point designed to provide high-speed wireless coverage over large indoor and outdoor areas. Example deployments include corporate and educational campuses,
business districts, industrial areas, and public spaces.
One of the keys to the MR58’s high performance is the use of three
separate 802.11n radios, each operating concurrently on a separate frequency band. The MR58 also uses advanced radio techniques like MIMO, beam forming, multiple ratio combining, and expanded channel widths to increase performance.
Ulrich Kohn discusses small cell backhauling and synchronization. Small cells improve coverage and bandwidth by supplementing macro cells. Fronthaul networks digitally transport small cell signals over fiber. Emerging architectures use centralized baseband units pooled in a data center and remote radio heads at antenna sites. Synchronization is critical and can be enabled through boundary clocks, transparent transport, and co-located boundary clocks and transport controllers. ADVA Optical Networks provides solutions for fronthaul networks, carrier Ethernet backhaul, synchronization, and assurance to support small cell deployments.
This document summarizes SAT4M2M, a company developing an ultra-wide area network for IoT devices using a low-power satellite constellation. Key points include that SAT4M2M's network offers secure, global coverage with the lowest energy consumption and cost for massive IoT deployments. The network utilizes a proprietary satellite system and telematic units that can operate for over 6 years on limited power. Compared to alternatives like Sigfox and NB-IoT, SAT4M2M's network has a much wider coverage range of up to 1600km using licensed frequencies. The company is currently in the development phase with plans to deploy the first phase of the network starting in 2016.
LTE and Satellite: Solutions for Rural and Public Safety NetworkingSmall Cell Forum
This document discusses using LTE and satellite solutions for rural and public safety networking. It provides an overview of why LTE is better than 3G for rural areas due to its wider coverage using low frequency spectrum and consistent backhaul technology. LTE is also driving adoption for public safety needs due to requirements for data, uplink speeds, ubiquitous coverage, and satellite backup. The document then summarizes iDirect's SatHaul solution for optimizing LTE over satellite backhaul through features that improve user experience and bandwidth efficiency while maintaining security and compliance with 3GPP standards.
