ROCKER BOGIE
ABSTRACT
The term “bogie” refers to the links that have a drive wheel at each end. Bogies were commonly
used as load wheels in the tracks of army tanks as idlers distributing the load over the terrain.
Bogies were also quite commonly used on the trailers of semi trailer trucks. Both applications
now prefer trailing arm suspensions.
Rovers will continue to play an important role in planetary
exploration. Plans include the use of the rocker-bogie rover configuration. Here, models of the
mechanics of this configuration are presented. Methods for solving the inverse kinematics of the
system and quasi-static force analysis are described. Experimental results confirm the validity of
the models.
Here we are providing this mechanism by providing two different angles to the four joints of
bogie, due to the structure of this project this bogie can cross any obstacles easily.
We have used acrylic material to fabricate this project and large diameter wheels with
heavy grip to travel this bogie using DC motors.

Rocker Bogie Shree Samarth project solution (9765006651) Page 1 SAMARTH PROJECT SOLUTION MECHANICAL / ELECTRONICS/ ELECTRICAL / COMPUTER / IT ENGINEERING PROJECT FOR POLYTECHNIC AND ENGINEERING STUDENTS AURANGABAD: 09765006651 / 9595897097 / 8857832351 ROCKER BOGIE ABSTRACT The term “bogie” refers to the links that have a drive wheel at each end. Bogies were commonly used as load wheels in the tracks of army tanks as idlers distributing the load over the terrain. Bogies were also quite commonly used on the trailers of semi trailer trucks. Both applications now prefer trailing arm suspensions. Rovers will continue to play an important role in planetary exploration. Plans include the use of the rocker-bogie rover configuration. Here, models of the mechanics of this configuration are presented. Methods for solving the inverse kinematics of the system and quasi-static force analysis are described. Experimental results confirm the validity of the models. Here we are providing this mechanism by providing two different angles to the four joints of bogie, due to the structure of this project this bogie can cross any obstacles easily. We have used acrylic material to fabricate this project and large diameter wheels with heavy grip to travel this bogie using DC motors.
