Road accidents are a major epidemic in Bangladesh, with an annual fatality rate of 85.6 deaths per 10,000 vehicles, compared to under 3 per 10,000 in most developed countries. On average, 8 people die every day from road accidents in Bangladesh, with over 5,000 total deaths and 12,000 injuries annually. The routes with the highest rates of fatal accidents are Dhaka-Chittagong-Cox's Bazaar, Bugra-Rangpur-Dinajpur-Banglabandha, and Dhaka-Sylhet highways. Common causes of accidents include reckless driving, speeding, drug and alcohol use, unqualified drivers, poor road design and construction, lack of
