INTRODUCTION
A ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT (RTA) CAN BE DEFINED AS, AN EVENT THAT OCCURS ON A WAY OR STREET OPEN TO
PUBLIC TRAFFIC RESULTING IN ONE OR MORE PERSONS BEING INJURIED OR KILLED, WHERE AT LEAST ONE MOVING
VEHICLE IS INVOLVED.
APPROXIMATELY 1.24 MILLION PEOPLE DIE EVERY YEAR ON THE WORLD’S ROADS AND 20 TO 50 MILLION PEOPLE
SUSTAIN NONFATAL INJURIES.
ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT IS THE CURRENT SERIOUS PUBLIC HEALTH PROBLEM ESPECIALLY TO MIDDLE AND LOW-
INCOME COUNTRIES.
THE INCREASED RATE OF FATAL ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT IS DUE TO INCREASED MOTORIZATION.

WHO (WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION) REPORT THE NUMBER OF DEATHS IN CRASHES CONTINUES TO CLIMB ACROSS THE WORLD REACHING
1.35 MILLION IN 2016.AT THIS RATE THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDG) TARGET 3.6 ROAD TRAFFIC DEATHS BY 2020.
ACCORDING TO THE LATEST WHO REPORT THAT EUROPE HAD THE LOWEST ROAD TRAFFIC DEATHS RATE.THE DEATH RATE IN EUROPE
WAS 9.3 PER 100,000 PEOPLE MUCH LOWER THAN AFRICA WHICH HAD THE HIGHEST RATE AT 26.6.
IN GERMANY THE RATE WAS BELOW THE EUROPEAN AVERAGE WITH 4.1 PER 100,000 PEOPLE.

ON AVERAGE 12000 LIVES ANUALLY AND LEAD TO ABOUT 35000 INJURIES.
ACCORDING TO WORLD BANK STATISTICS ANNUAL FATALITY RATE FROM ROAD ACCIDENTS IS FOUND TO BE 85.6
