4. Riverbank erosion is an important natural and dynamic geomorphic
phenomenon, in which shorelines shift their position and bars within the
stream migrate from their original location,due to the wearing away of
the bank materials from the concave side of the bank

 Marginal embankment or Leeves:Leeves are generally earth enembankments,running
parallel to the river.These embankment-wall retain the river water to carry the bank soil
with the river.
 Guidebanks:The guide banks are generally provided across a river as toen sure not only
as a feand expeditious disposal of water but also toen sure apermanent reasonable width
of the water way for the river flow.Symmetric a land parallel guide banks are usually
adopted.
 Groynesor Spurs:Groynes are the embankment type structures,constructed transverse to
the river flow to protect the bank by deflecting the current away from the bank.As the
water is unable to take as harp embankment,the bank gets protected.
