The Christian Faith Since The Reformation Of Luther
Spener, like Luther, saw a need to reform what was there in the way of religious faiths. And like
Luther, his intentions were not to remake the faith but to simply bring it back to where it belonged.
Unlike the reformation of Luther, which failed to reform the Catholic Church and ended up splitting
into the Protestant Church, Spener spent his time within the Protestant Church to reform the way
people lived and thought. Arguably, the Pia Desidria that Spener wrote turned out to be the greatest
paper to further the Christian faith since the Bible itself. Pietism is a movement that happened in the
seventeenth and eighteenth century within Protestantism. By the end of the seventeenth century
Protestantism had fallen away from its focus on Christ and a person s walk with Him and had fully
submersed itself in to religious dogma. The movement started with one man, Philip Spener, growing
up with a strong religious background and the writings of Johann Arndt, Spener went to the University
of Strassburg. While attending school at Strassburg, he was taught by professors that justification by
faith was more than just a doctrine but a spiritual rebirth. After spending three years in a pastorate at
Strassburg, Spener went to Frankfort. Upon his arrival, he was shocked by the conditions of the town
and abandoned traditional doctrine and started preaching from the entire Bible. After he preached from
the Sermon on the Mount in 1669, the response from the people was very surprising. People

The Youth Justice And Other Legislation Act 2014
In 2014, the Government initiated the Youth Justice and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2014. This
act introduced new changes that were made to provide fair outcomes and reasonable punishments.
This assignment will focus on four of the changes made to the act and evaluate how the introduction
of the Youth Justice and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2014 has impacted on consequences for
youth in the youth justice system. Recommendations for changes the government could make will also
be stated.
Part 4 Division 2 of the Children s Court Act 2000 states that the Childrens Court will now be an open
court for repeat offenders (Department of Justice and Attorney General, 2014). The Court has the

(Queensland Law Society 2014). This quote shows that, even after going to court once, children will
repeat offences and opening the Childrens Court will not help the rehabilitation of these repeat
offenders. However, the public is let in to see the cases and will learn about the court processes,
providing a better understanding, and if the case is of a sexual nature, the victim will feel much more
comfortable with the court being closed, and will be able to easily tell the complete truth.
The Youth Justice and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2014 gives the media the authorisation to
publish identifying information of a repeat offender at any stage during a court proceeding.
(Department of Justice and Attorney General, 2014). A first time offender is anyone who has not been
found guilty, at any time throughout a proceeding. First time offenders being named publicly remains
prohibited by section 301. (Department of Justice and Attorney General, 2014). However, Ian Brown,
President of The Queensland Law Society, states that he strongly believes that publicly naming a child
coming before the courts should be prohibited. He believes letting the media broadcast classified
information of repeat offenders could become a major difficulty in terms of getting the repeat offender
back on the right track. (Department of Justice and Attorney General, 2014). The publishing of a
repeat offender s name during a proceeding could

Style Analysis Of Tim Burton s Corpse Bride And Edward...
Style Analysis Essay We do not fear the unknown. We fear what we think about the unknown. Is a
quote from Teal Swan. This idea is incorporated into a lot of director s movies, however Tim Burton, a
creator of many famous movies, would probably have one of the best understandings of this idea. This
is because Burton tends to use ideas about the unknown in many of his films. However, these ideas of
fearing the unknown and curiosity of the unknown are especially prominent in Burton s films such as
The Corpse Bride and Edward Scissorhands. Burton typically uses techniques such as some sort of
misfit protagonist that is different than most people and a judgmental society that treats said
protagonist in terrible ways to convey to the audience that society wrongly teaches people to fear the
unknown.
Burton typically has the misfit protagonist deemed an outcast by their society or the society they enter.
For instance, in The Corpse Bride the protagonist, Victor Van Dort, is a sort of clumsy and, quite
frankly, normal character. Yet despite how normal Victor is, his society, or more specifically, his
parents and soon to be in laws, expect him to be this perfect person and, inevitably, fails to do so at his
wedding rehearsal, because of this he is deemed an outcast by his parents and soon to be in laws.
Eventually Victor runs away from his town and finds himself in an unknown place. Being in this place
made Victor realize that he had no reason to fear the dead in the sort of

Persuasive Essay About Legalizing Marijuana
In a survey of more than 216,000 teens, results indicated that marijuana use is drastically falling.
Along with this, the number of pot related problems is going down with it. It s possible that this is just
one of the many positive effects of legalization but maybe kids these days have certain distractions to
curb their drug appetite. VR porn might be the culprit.
MORE MARIJUANA LESS PROBLEMS
A wise prophet once said mo money, mo problems . That phrase turns out to be rather interchangeable
suggesting the more one has of anything, the more conflict it creates. An outlier to this theory is
medical marijuana. Opposers thought that an increase in legal marijuana would lead to in influx in
drug use among adolescents and adults. They got half of that right. Despite numerous states legalizing
and decriminalizing pot, use by young people is falling at record rates while the number of adults
using the drug has increased.

them? We are in an age where the firmness of virtual tits can be customized. VR porn is new and way
more arousing than watching Cheech and Chong for the 3rd time in a row. Drug use in teens is
declining because they ve simply swapped out one addiction for another. VR porn is what everyone
will be talking about in the locker room someday. Teens will sneak out of class to take part in virtual

one full of virtual pornography. As far as the negative effect of that addiction, well, society will have

The Themes Of Discovery In The Discovery, By Michael Gow
Discovery comprises the understanding of uncovering something for the first time or refinding
something that has been forgotten or something has not yet been explored. Disclosures can be
provoking and confronting. The impact can be transformative. They are able to lead us to new worlds
and values, venture new thoughts, and allow us to gamble about future possibilities. Their effect can
be life changing for the individual and for a broader community. discovery may be interrogated or
confronted when viewed from different aspects and their value may be reconsidered over time.
The play Away by Michael Gow and the poem The discovery by Gwendolyn MacEwan, both texts
consists of the themes about discovery. Away by Michael Gow is a play in a play. It is about three
Australian families who went on holidays in mid summer up the coast where they were driven
together by the storm. The storm leads the families to discover new people, places and has renewed
understandings of themselves and others. In the play, Gow explores the themes of suffering,
regeneration, grief, and the healing effects that can have on an individual. And, The discovery by
MacEwan is a poem about constant exploration and how nothing can ever fully be understood.
MacEwan in her poem explains about how nothing can ever fully be understood by telling us that
there is always another thing that you may not be aware of and that must be taken into account.
Firstly, In the play Away , Tom (who is the protagonists

How To Write A Critique Of Favorite Kjv Text
(A Critique of Favorite KJV Text in Textbook) In our English class we study a multitude of texts
which slightly link together forming a chain that carries us throughout the year studying texts. After
only a few months into our year, we have started to study the King James Version of the Bible that was
written in 1611. When we study texts we don t just read them once. Instead, we deeply analyze line by
line and, sometimes, word by word. The fact that the textbook company included a few Psalms and
some stories from the book of Mathew and Luke, makes me proud that we can appreciate such works
without taking it too far. After analyzing the four excerpts from the King James Version of the Bible, I
took an admiration for the clipping of The Sermon on the Mount.
First of all, The Sermon on the Mount, found in Mathew 6:24 30, begins by giving some instruction or
guidance on how to perceive God. Many would argue that it is controversial as to how God wants to
be admired and how someone can show him their admiration. There is one simple verse which tells
how to do so while being short and sweet. No man can serve two masters: for either he ... Show more

I learned that this technique is used for the first time in the KJV to help teach the concepts. This is an
example of something that I wouldn t have picked up on if I didn t study the text in a more fluent
manner. Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet
your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye no much better than they? (page 301, verse 26) In this
quote, Jesus makes a statement and then questions the hierarchy that humans have held themselves to.
This helps the reader to step back and look at themselves in a different perspective. Having the
audience question the way they ve done things is an aspect of The Sermon on the Mount that I found

The s Complete Specification For Its Patent
Question 1 The Workmate s complete specification for its patent was published on 15th March 1972.
In order for an invention, such as the workmate, to be patentable it must have certain features present.
The invention must be a completely new idea and have no relation to any other patented material. The
invention, if an adaption to an already known product, must be non obvious. Meaning that if an
ordinary person working in the specific industry deems the adaption as obvious, then the patent will
not be granted. Lastly the invention must be useful, and able to execute a result that is beneficial. The
main feature of the Workmate that differentiates it from previously available workbenches is its
unique clamping system. Traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are attached to two clamps, on either side, which can be operated separately. This allows
tapered pieces to be clamped together without any specialised jigs. Due to its reduced size, lightweight
and uniquely designed clamps the Workmate redesigned the way tradesmen worked. The Workmate
patent covers a few other features, these are covered by the claims. It states that the two clamp
segments are wooden and that one side will be operable while the other is static. Thus allowing for
tapered sections to be clamped together. These wooden segments then form the work surface of the
bench. The bench is held in the upright position by using H frames. In order for the Workmate to be
foldable, one of these frames has a hinge slightly higher than that to its counterpart. The base of the
bench has a larger area than the work surface. It comprises of a flat horizontal component which sits
directly on the floor when the Workmate is erected. By having a larger base section, it creates a sturdy
work area which allows extra support. Its secondary purpose is to allow an individual to stand on the
base, so they are beside one of the clamp members. By adding one s weight, it can create a more rigid
structure if required. Since the workmate patent has now lapsed, new workbenches have been
designed for the market. This is an opportunity for designers to improve the original idea of the
workmate by using new materials and techniques that are available. One way of doing

Destructors By Graham Greene
Class, After reading Destructors by Graham Greene I am convinced to believe this statement fits very
well with the story. I had to reread this short story, because I missed important pieces the first time.
The reason the gang wants to hurt Thomas or Old Misery is because he gave the gang what he said
was chocolate, and in reality it was not. This made the gang think Thomas was trying to be smart with
them, and the gang said they would get even. The gang then chose to do this by destroying the man s
house. Not just breaking a few things, but tearing the house completely down. Emotions were shifted
throughout the book, and I believe that played an important role in grabbing the reader s attention and
keeping them guessing what will happen

Microbial life can be found everywhere like oceans, soil and buried deeply under the earth or even
inside our body. This micro organism are very tiny and can barely see with our naked eye. Microbes
can have a negative and positive impacts in the society. First example is Bacteria a tiny and millions
creatures alive and can be found anywhere and could be dangerous if spread badly and got infected.
Sometimes we are scared or paranoid about bacteria or germ because it can give us illness or can spoil
our food. Other example after eating a contaminated food we get sick is just because we had eaten a
little bit of bacteria but if not cure this bacteria can multiply a million times inside our body because
our body is warm and moist that bacteria perfect place to multiply. But not all bacteria are harmful in
(Stanford University School of Medicine) some bacteria are used to make medicine, a specially
modified bacteria or transgenic bacteria. These bacteria have a foreign genes along with their DNA
they live and reproduce just like any other bacteria and they help by producing human protein that use
in vaccines and medicines. Others put inside the capsules for us to take to fight the bad bacteria inside
our body that capsules coated with protective often slimy coating to protect the bacteria inside. Second
example is Virus a tiny piece of infectious and smaller than bacteria and need living organism just to
reproduce. And can infect any alive micro organism such us animal, plants and even bacteria and
algae. Virus exists for the reason is to reproduce and if landed into appropriate cell they start to action.
Other people said ones man cold could be other people nightmares. (Bhagirath Singh of director of

long term chronic disease and it can be fatal for human. According to (Food and

Social Comparison In The Classroom
Most of us are guilty of comparing ourselves to other people. It happens all the time in so many
different situations and environments. Social comparisons take place in the workplace, at school,
within friend groups and many other areas. The social comparison theory may give us more
knowledge about why and how we perform these comparisons. Leon Festinger was the psychologist
who first brought up the idea of the social comparison theory. According to the theory, there exists two
types of comparisons upward and downward. The upward comparisons involve comparing ourselves
to other people who we believe hold an advantage in some way. Upward comparisons may cause
people to want to change themselves to be on par with those of their comparisons. ... Show more

For example, students may look upward to students who are performing better and then try to increase
their own performance to match the others. Social comparisons may hold negative or positive effects
on self esteem for students. Upward comparisons generally hold a negative effect, while downward
comparisons often have a positive effect. This is not true all the time. Environmental context plays a
huge role in the social comparisons of the classroom. The environment of the classroom creates a very
competitive atmosphere unlike any other. Everything including the grade system, participation,
presentations causes students to compare themselves to others. Students, all the time, ask each other
what grade did you get on that? in order to see where they stand. Social comparison can be seen all the
time and even has a major presence in movies, television and mass media. The movie Pursuit of
Happiness includes a major example of the upward comparison. Will Smith s character, Chris Gardner
is in deep financial trouble after a bad investment in medical technology equipment. One day, while
walking on the streets of San Francisco, he notices a Ferrari pull up to the curb, and starts a very
friendly conversation with the owner. Chris finds out that the owner is a stockbroker. After the ferrari s
owner walks away, Chris takes a look around the Pacific stock exchange and notices the smiles on
everyone s faces. He then says

The Quaternary Period and Other Periods
Cambrian:
This period started 540 million years ago and ended 500 million years ago.
There was a very mild climate. The supercontinent Rodinia began to break into smaller parts, or
continents. Lots of glaciation occurred so many animal families went extinct.
All phyla develop during this time period. Many marine animals, shell fish, echinoderms, and some of
the earliest fish appear.
Lots of glaciation occurred wiping out many animal families marking the end of the Cambrian period.
Ordovician:
This period started 505 million years ago and ended 438 million years ago.
Many primitive plants appeared on land and some of the first corals. Primitive fish and fungi also
make an appearance. High sea levels occur at fist but lower as global cooling, glaciation and
volcanism increase.
Plants, fungi and primitive fish are on land during this time period.
Glaciation marked the end of the Ordovician period.
Silurian:
This period started 438 million years ago and ended 408 million years ago.
The first vascular plants appear on land (plants with water conducting tissue). High seas spread
worldwide, brachiopods, crinoids and corals also make an appearance.
The first fish with jaws appeared during this time period along with insects, centipedes and millipedes.

Foreshadowing in Three Dirges Essay
Foreshadowing In Three Dirges
A sense of ominous foreboding permeates the woeful passage from Three Dirges. The conflict is
immediately apparent
: Don Lazaro, you ve got five boys in Comitan teaching the campesinos how to read. That s
subversive. That s communist. So tonight, you have to kill them. Don Lazaro, the mayor of the war
torn village, San Martin Comitan, seems to have no choice but to carry out this heartless command.
His response is indicative of a desperate man searching for answers, yet already resigned to carrying
out the task at hand. What can I say? you tell me! cries an anguished Don Lazaro to the villagers. Is he
pleading for their understanding, or asking for a miraculous solution that would alter the path ... Show

The feeling of fear and sadness is further portrayed by the crying of the village women, . . . a woman s
anguish pierced the still, early morning, followed by yet a duet of wails, and then a full chorus of
cries. Clearly, these women intuitively or otherwise , know of wrenching torment awaiting the village.
The somber mood continues with the procession of religious officials making their way to the same
destination as the wailing women. In contrast, however, the religious principales have assumed a
formation of some sort; marching in six files, two abreast, ceremoniously fulfilling their obligation as
if all hope had already eroded.
That hope further dissipated when the young men, now being led each by an older man, made their
way to the cemetery. The cemetery was an eery prediction of what was surely now about to happen.
Don Lazaro has protested so much that there is nothing he can do, it now borders on the pathetic. Does
he know of some additional harm that would befall him if he doesn t carry out this sinister plan? The
young men, now willing to sacrifice their lives, and resigned to doing so, bravely meet their fate. The
five young men, each escorted now by an older man, followed the cofrades over the ridge of the hill
and dropped down on the other side just out of sight. Certainly the reader can see that, with the
movement of the young men out of sight, the terrible command is surely about to be carried out. Still
there may be time to

A Critical Examination of the Factors behind the Resilience of Human Trafficking in the World Today
Abstract
This study set out to examine the factors behind the resilience of human trafficking in the world today;
with specific reference to the experience of the United States. The study was informed by the key
assumption that the US cannot fight human trafficking human trafficking in isolation of the rest of the
world, and that there is a need to for governments, intergovernmental and non governmental
organizations to work together towards addressing the vice. Many international legal instruments have
been out in place to address the vice but factors such as profitability, incapacity of many states to

Nonetheless, the 19th century brought with it many changes that challenged some of these older
practices and increasingly criminalizing them. The Anti Slavery Act in the United Kingdom in the
1830s; the Emancipation of Slaves in the United States in the 1860s; and the campaign against the
Slave Trade in parts of Africa by the in coming colonial powers in the late 1800s all introduced
phenomenal changes in as far as these old practices were concerned and began to put an end to the
older forms or classical setting (so to say) of what is today known as human trafficking (Louise,
2010).
Further, the many important phenomenal changes came with the 20th Century. The International
Labour Organization Convention (also known as the ILO Convention) of 1919 did handle the
questions of forced labor, servitude and under age work among other areas. In similar fashion, the UN
Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) as well as the Convention Against
Torture and All Forms of Inhumane and Degrading Punishment (CAT of 1984) is yet another
instrument that in one way or another (at least indirectly) touched on the issue of human trafficking as
it is known today. Nonetheless it was only

The European Immigration And The New World
In fourteen hundred and ninety two, Columbus sailed the ocean blue. So begins the European
immigration to the New World. Native American people would be forever changed by these
immigrants to their culture. The European immigrants were mostly Judeo Christians while the Native
Americans had their own belief system. These two cultures each have creation stories that are
somewhat similar and yet still different.
Judeo Christian beliefs hold that, in the first chapter of Genesis, God created the world in six days,
while resting on the seventh. One the first day God created the heavens and the earth, the day and the
night, and a dome separating the earth from the sky. On the second day, God created the land and the
seas. On the third day, He created the plants that bear seeds and fruit that bears fruit with seeds in it.
On the fourth day, He created the sun and the moon and the stars. On the fifth day, God created
animals to inhabit the water and birds to fly beneath the dome, blessing them to be fruitful and
multiply in the water and under the dome. On the sixth day, God created wild animals and tame
animals and crawling things to inhabit the earth. He also created human beings, both male and female,
in His image. On the seventh day, he rested.
In the second chapter of Genesis, it tells of how God created the heavens and the earth. God then
formed man out of the dust of the ground and blew into his nostrils the breath of life. Then He created
the trees, the rivers, the animals

Poem Analysis- Robert Fross; Robert Browning; Anne Bradstreet
Robert Frost, Out,Out
1. In line 15, Frost describes the saw as being sinister. He infers that the saw has a mind of its own, by
stating that the saw jumped out of the boy s hand and cut the boy s hand terribly. Frost also makes it
seem as if the saw is in a way, like a friend. He does this by demonstrating that using the saw is an
advantage for the boy because it is making his job ten times easier. Without the saw, the boy would
spend hours cutting through the wood. 2. In Frost s poem, the people that surround the boy must be his
family. It could also very much be friends, or members of his community, along with the doctor and
nurses working on his injury. The tone of the poem leads me to conclude that the they in the poem ...

In other words, he, the Duke, controls the Duchess; or he wishes to control his Duchess. The Duke
wouldn t want anyone to see the portrait of his Duchess, with her blushed cheeks, unless he was there.
The same can be inferred from the last few lines of the poem, line 54 55, Notice Neptune,
though,/Taming a sea horse, thought a rarity,/ Which Claus of Innsbruck cast in bronze for me! The
Duke is implying, that he himself is Neptune, and his last Duchess is the sea horse. No one could have

Adrienne Rich, Aunt Jennifer s Tigers,
In her poem, Aunt Jennifer s Tigers, Adrienne is describing the protagonist s feelings towards her
marriage. In lines 9 10, the protagonist feels that she is a prisoner of her marriage, and will only be set

first stanza of the poem, Adrienne describes the tigers as being un fearful of the men. A trait she
wishes she possessed.

This style is constant in their music and became a popular taste among the young. This style inspired
many to create faster and increasingly vulgar display of music. Creating a new culture of loyal fans
and followers. Iron Maiden brought new things to the table as often as they could introducing the use
of keyboards and new technologies being used at the time in their music. Iron maiden had a huge
impact on what was known heavy metal in 1980s. Their mascot Eddie the Head became an iconic
symbol associated to heavy metal. Even inspiring new artist to create mascots of their own. The font
used to write their band logo is often used as well as a pop culture icon when referring to things heavy

their iconic headbanging motion when listening to rhythmic and fast paced music. This movement of
headbangers created a culture of Metal fans wearing vulgar clothes and violent shirts to create a sense
of intimidation. The rise of headbangers lead to the making of faster tempo music. One trying to top

The Ass, The Witch, And The Roman Empire
The Ass, the Witch, and the Roman Empire: Roman Society in The Golden Ass Apuleius The Golden
Ass is the oldest Latin novel from around the era of the Roman Empire to survive in its entirety.
Because of this fact, it means that this novel is a source of great insight into a first hand account, albeit
with fictional prose, of Roman society through the eyes of a well endowed male, Lucius, the narrator
of the novel. Through his travels and his various encounters along the way, both as a man and an ass
(not mutually exclusive) we get to experience the many aspects of Roman society and culture.
Through the novel, we get to experience their societal attitudes concerning gender, sexuality, and
violence. Although, The Golden Ass is written as a fictional prose, for example there s no historical
evidence of bestial transformations in the Roman Empire, the base of the storytelling in which
Apuleius writes from can be seen as a semi realistic representation and accounts of Roman society at
its peak and give us insight into their views on sexuality and gender.
In Roman society males dominated and had almost complete control over the entirety of their families.
Everyone s life was on a string and the patriarch of the household held the scissors that could easily
cut that string. Almost from the start of the novel we get painted an accurate portrayal of this clear cut
gender division and misogyny evident in Roman society. Lucius enters a relationship with Photis, a

The Reflection Of Social Status In African Art
The Reflection of Social Status in African Art The attachment of labels to particular groups of people
is something society just can t stop doing. Categorizing brings comfort in a world that can often be
very brutal and chaotic. Most people s first thoughts when looking at or meeting someone are along
the lines of trying to guess what kind of person they are based on how they look, to get a better
understanding of their social status. This idea is reflected within the arts as well, such as in the use of
distinguishing factors to discern a leader or deity from mere mortals. In African culture, people of
higher status often employed the fine arts in combination with other methods, to embed their absolute
power into the minds of their normal counterparts. Hierarchical scale is a favorite among ancient
artists when creating works featuring a high ranking member of society, be it a god or a mortal king.
People in power want to remain relevant to the people they serve, and this relevance is often reiterated
through forms of political propaganda that make them appear more menacing or divine. One of the
more blatant examples of art indicating and reinforcing social status is the Altar to the Hand and Arm
(Kleiner 402 403). Upon first glance, the most important figure can be picked out of the other figures
being depicted in this piece. Ancient African artists had a solid grasp on proportion, but they often
honored their leaders by giving them larger heads to represent the endless

Essay On Gorilla
I was teleported to another world. Something that I wanted to happen. Earth was boring for me. It was
either me being teleported to another world or a fantasy apocalypse happening on earth. You know,

would have been fine, I didn t mind being in another body but.
Why a monkey? I mean it s not even a giant gorilla like a King Kong. No. It s a ten inch monkey.
White fur and blue skin and blue eyes. My teeth are sharp with two vampiric like fangs.
I know it s much better than other things that I could have become, like ants. But, a ten inch monkey

The Cold War was a Big Chicken Match
The cold war was a long war lasting 45 years but was never actually any fighting. The war was
between two national super powers the United States and the Soviet Union. The war was one big
chicken match seeing who could build the biggest bomb the fastest. The big argument was between
communism and democracy. The USA supported Democracy and its freedoms. Democracy is
basically freedom, you may do as you please and make your own decisions. You can be a bartender or
a CEO your fate lies in your hands and not the governments. Also the biggest perk to democracy is the
right to vote. You can vote on you countries leader vs. a king or a prime minister. The people of
democracy have a say in the government. The USSR supports Communism. Communism is led by a
prime minister and gives the people no choices. You may not choose who leads your country. The
government decides your future you have no say in your job or your pay. Everything is decided for
you like you re a toddler. Most of the world today in democratic (including the USSR) and
communism is dying out. Both of these supper powers used the Domino Effect to spread their choice
of government. The domino effect is the belief that if one country switches to democracy or
communism all surrounding countries will follow. Wisconsin Senator McCarthy thought there were
many communists in the USA government. McCarthyism is how the senator wrote down 205 names
of possible communists in the government and drove all around the country

Mcdonald s A Competitive Advantage
SYNOPSIS
In the United States, the fast food market provides consumers quick meals at a reasonable cost. It has
grown significantly in recent years with an 8.7% average annual growth rate throughout the 1980 s.
The concept of the industry, providing healthy alternatives to traditional fast food and being
environmentally sound is the latest example how consumers affect the industry. The companies must
be able to change very quickly in order to meet these customer demands and the changing
environment while still conforming to its strategy. For an example, consider McDonald s Corporation;
it is a company that has been able to remain true to its philosophy and still be able to adapt to the
market situation. The resources and capabilities the company has assembled has allowed it to be a
consistent top performer even in a market that is competitive. This paper discusses several capabilities
and resources that provided McDonald s a competitive advantage: food innovations, customer
satisfaction, regulatory standards, intensive training program, quality products, franchisee
relationships, and supplier relations. By applying the VRIO theory to the information discovered in
the case, it was determined that the resources and capabilities that McDonald s possessed in the 1990 s
allowed it to gain a sustainable competitive advantage which lead to industry success throughout the
years.

The Business Environment At Canadian Shield Insurance
The business environment at Canadian Shield Insurance suggests that it belongs to the Responsive

rapid rate of change and competitive advantage derived from operational efficiency. The insurance
industry constantly has to adjust to new government regulations and stipulations that affect many
business processes and systems. One major issue with the current ALPHA system is the complexity
involved in making modifications to the system whenever new regulations were put into place. In
addition, the sustainability for Canadian insurance companies [is] greatly depended on investments in
projects that increased customer service and improved operational efficiency (Stacey). Insurance
companies can gain competitive advantages over others by being efficiently superior, having a lower
cost structure, and providing better service to customers. Seamus believes that a new information
system will be essential to helping the company achieve this. Unfortunately, the new internal
information system, ISS, had already consumed an immense amount of time and money, making
decisions going forward that much more challenging. Decision Rights Seamus holds some of

Final Reflection On Food Nourishment
ACE 435
Final Reflection
Jon and Rachel are awesome! Thank you all for a wonderful class!
1. Which guest speaker hosted in class this semester had the greatest impact on you? What did you
learn from him/her and how might it affect your future? The topic that had the greatest impact on me
is about food security by professor Michelson. In the lecture, we discussed the importance of food
security, the trends of rising global food demand, factors that drives the expected demand increase,
and also the relationship between income and food. The first question she came up with is why food
security became such a major challenge worldwide? In my point of view, one of the simple reason is
that everybody needs food. By answering this question, she introduced the definition of food security,
and three hierarchical pillars. I learned that population growth, climate change, and water scarcity are
some of the factor that cause food security became a problem. Also, as people become more affluent
they start to change their tastes. For example, meat consumption in both developed and developing
countries predict to increase while their income rise. Then we analyzed couple graph and table. In the
over nourishment map, we found out that Europe, North America and Oceania seems waste the most
food. In the map of meat demand driver, I learned that since two third of meat Chinese consume is
pork, China actually consumes more total meat calories than US. Last but not least, professor
Michelson introduced Engel s law and Bennett s law. Engel s law stated that as income increase, the
portion of income spent on food falls, but the amount of money that expend on food might increase.
Bennett s law stated that as income rises, the portion of starchy food in the diet falls. One of the
interesting things I found out in her presentation is that if an average individual has an intake calories
below 1690 1930 kcal per day, he or she is undernourished. I was shock by this information because I
used to take around 1400 kcal per day, and I am actually undernourished if by this definition. After
listened to professor Michelson s speech, I realized that feeding the people is one of the greatest
challenged worldwide. The challenge is not only

horrible, but the only reason why it wants to kill is because it can t feel any emotion, so it tries to feel

character, Sans, is a pun telling skeleton who is always unhappy for knowing about timelines and how

market. In the years between 1917 and 1927 the silent film reached the peak of its development.
United States had the largest film industry and American films dominated the international market.
Germany and Japan still had some movie industries but mostly left to domestic. Many nations found
film production as a matter of importance to national culture, sometimes by limiting on film imports.

Lee De Forest, who exhibited brief sound films to the public in 1923, pioneered both of these
developments. Although the public failed to respond to De Forest s sound films, electronics
manufacturers continued to experiment with both sound on film and phonograph discs synchronized
with film. In 1926, Warner Brothers released a program using synchronized discs; it included short
talking and musical films and a silent feature, Don Juan , with a synchronized accompaniment.
William Fox in 1927, and later that year he also released the first sound newsreels released a short
sound on film comedy with spoken dialogue. Public acceptance of sound came on Oct. 6, 1927, when
Warner Brothers presented Al Jolson singing and saying a few words in The Jazz Singer . The first full
length all sound film was The Lights of New York , issued by Warner Brothers in 1928. The success of
sound revolutionized the film industry. Theaters had to install sound projection equipment, and film
studios had to find methods of soundproofing cameras and stages. Movement in most of the early
sound films appeared static, because cameras had to be enclosed in soundproof boxes that were
difficult to move. Eventually cameras with noiseless gears were developed; microphones were put on
booms, or poles, which could be extended as needed. Early

Brian s plane crashes on his way to see his father in Canada, the pilot has a heart attack and eventually
the plane goes down, leaving him stranded in the wild all alone. Being raised in a city, Brian has very

Eventually, the pilot makes an attempt to radio for help, but fails as he has a heart attack and falls back
in his seat. Brian sits in shock for some time before realizing he has to come up with a solution. He
makes the decision to try and land the plane in a lake as it runs out of fuel. Eventually the plane begins
to go down, and he barely makes it to the lake which, in time, will become his camp. Suffering only
minor injuries from the crash , Brian makes it to shore. The first few days he was relying heavily on
the hope that he would be rescued within a few days. As time went on, his hopes of being found

he learns how to hunt fish, find good firewood, and make fires. He creates a spear for jabbing fish, a

Analysis Of Hamlet And King Lear
The social tolerance of these plays goes hand in hand with their exploration of human psychology. The
hallmark examples of Shakespeare s penetration into the human psyche are Hamlet and King Lear. In
the former, Shakespeare explores the state of melancholia in the young prince of Denmark. Even after
the play is finished the audience is still left pondering whether or not Hamlet is truly sane. Bloom
writes: the question of Hamlet always must be Hamlet himself, for Shakespeare created him to be as
ambivalent and divided a consciousness as a coherent drama could sustain (387). Further, in his
analysis of the character, Bloom asserts that Hamlet transcends his play (385). Running with this
notion, it is possible to suggest that, in the character of Hamlet, Shakespeare explores the psychology
of morality in and of itself. Shakespeare critic Richard Hilliard asserts that in Hamlet s makeup is one
of an adept moral consciousness; He writes:
What should be clear...is that, until the tragic catastrophe, Hamlet is a moral dynamo, systematically
interrogating every echelon of Claudius s crooked court, flashing mirrors of folly and vice into blind
eyes... (Hilliard).
This perspective positions Hamlet as transcendently aware of the multiple moral consequences he
faces in his act of revenge. Consequently, without absolute certainty, Hamlet hesitates to act. In
Hamlet s soliloquies lie the most profound insights of psychological deliberation and ruminations on
human existence. The famous to be or not to be soliloquy highlights the confliction of the mind that
Hamlet, and doubtless every viewer or reader, has encountered when faced with a decision that will
leave them scathed. Furthermore, Hamlet s reaction, when faced with the skull of his former jester,
Yorick, uncovers, in the most poignant way, the fragility of human existence and the psyche s
contemplation of death:
Alas, poor / Yorick! I knew him...a fellow of infinite / jest, of most excellent fancy. He hath borne me
on / his back a thousand times. And now how abhorred / in my imagination it is! My gorge rises at it.

Culture at Enron Organizational culture is defined as a cognitive system of beliefs, attitudes, values,

Guys in the Room researched, chronicled, and explained the culture and collapse of Enron
Corporation, an American energy, commodities, and services company. The organizational culture of
Enron was extremely multifaceted and comprised of many aspects. According to Schein s three levels
of organizational culture, such aspects were expressed by means of manifest articles such as heroes
and language, which were linked to espoused organizational values, and then connected to basic
assumptions about the company and what was deemed important there. Manifest artifacts are things
that are characteristic of the organizational structure and processes. Espoused values are the standards
that define and are defined by culture, and by which organization members judge what is good and
desirable. Basic assumptions are the deepest level, which include the beliefs, perception, and emotions
of organization members that are often not expressed and unconscious. This paper will analyze the

can be assumed about the cultural beliefs, perceptions, thoughts, and feelings at Enron. The culture at

3rd Writing Assignment
At the end of the 19th century, fin de siècle did not just indicate the end of one century: it indicated the
collapse of language and a way of thinking. This idea was illustrated by works such as von
Hofmannstahl s Lord Chandos Letter and Schnitzler s Dream Story, which seem to argue that a new
mode of thinking was necessary for a new age. Indeed, Freud s writings and Trakl s poems offered this
new mode of thinking by challenging the border between what is real and what is imaginary through
their works. In music and art, a similar trend was taking place: late 19th century works offered the
audience a window into the artist s emotions, experiences, and desires. This idea is seen in Gustav
Mahler s 1st Symphony and Egon Schiele s Seated Male Nude, in which both artists channel their
experiences and emotions to release suppressed elements of their psyches. However, the purpose for
their expressivity is different: Mahler s expressivity stems from a desire to find relief from mental
stress stemming from his turbulent life, Schiele s from a desire to explore new ways of conveying the
self.
Mahler s 1st Symphony holds an intimate relationship with his childhood and upbringing; the music
reflects and reveals Mahler s experiences and desires for what his future will look like. From the
beginning of his 1st Symphony, Mahler paints a vast, open space with the string s sustained, unison A.

The Arizona v. Fulminante Case
The center of a circle can never be located with only one line running through the shape. There must
be multiple lines, each one making it more clear where the center of the circle is. Analogously, the
murderer of a case can never be indicted with only one piece of evidence pointing at them. There must
be multiples indications, each one making it more clear who the murderer is. When Oreste Fulminante
confessed to the first degree murder of his stepdaughter, Jeneane Fulminante, the trial court used his
confession as evidence to sentence him to death. However, since his confession was coerced , the

The constitutional issue later appealed to the United States Supreme Court, where they discussed the
case s two separate issues, a voluntariness issue regarding a confession and a harmless error issue, as
stated by Mr. Jarrett during the trial at the United States Supreme Court ( Arizona v. Fulminante.

Court s decision: Fulminante would receive a new trial and the confession would not be allowed; this
would be for future law reference. The Supreme Court, profoundly, ruled that a coerced confession

Arizona v. Fulminante was one of the few cases in law history with justices shifting from the majority

The Inhumanity Of Animal Testing
Would you like to see animals suffer everyday because of a lab test? Just imagine seeing pictures and
videos of harmless animals being tested and tortured for human benefits. A research by Cruelty Free
International and Dr. Hadwen Trust estimates about 115 million animals are being used in experiments
all around the world each year. Animal testing should be prohibited and not be used for research. The
reasons are that the method of animal testing is very cruel and inhumane. Also most experiments that
scientists conduct, do not work and the life of an animal is wasted.
The method of using animals for lab testing is very cruel and inhumane. Studies show that when an
animal is in a laboratory, it feels lonely, trapped, isolated, and the animal is in complete misery. One
shocking fact is that the U.S law allows animals to be tortured and killed. They allow scientists to do
whatever they want to the animal to reach their goal. The scientists force the animals to drink
chemicals and many other things that can be harmful to them and that later ends up damaging many
parts of the animal s body. Even after the animals endure all the pain, they get put back into their cage
without having anything to stop the pain. Many animals are in danger of losing their lives due to the
cruelty and inhumanity of animal testing in labs.
Most of these experiments performed on animals do not work and their life is wasted. Dr. Michael

The Function Of Sleep Behavior
Across species, animals spend a substantial minority of their lives sleeping. In fact, humans spend on
average approximately one third of their lives asleep (Colten and Altevogt, 2006). With such devotion
of time resources and the his tells us, from an evolutionary standpoint, that sleep is an important part
of the success of an animal. But what fitness does sleep confer to an organism? Although sleep occurs
across many species of animals, the function of sleep behavior is not fully understood. Studies might
suggest that this behavior might play a role in several important processes, such as the regeneration of
tissue and energy management (Sara, 2017, Rasch and Born, 2013). Recent work in the field suggests
slow wave sleep may fulfill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As early as the 1950s, scientists have parsed the main stages of sleep. In one such study, eye
movements, recorded by electrooculograms (EOG) correlated with the brain activity in
electroencephalograms(EEGs) as well as respiratory rate, indicating the existence of distinct sleep
states which were not randomly generated (Aserinsky and Klietman, 1953). The discovery of distinct
states showed sleep was not just a passive behavior. Instead, it consists of three to four distinct states
as well as REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, each with their own unique brain activity.
While REM sleep has been in the scientific spotlight since its discovery for its role in consolidation of
emotional memory (Sara, 2017), recently more studies have begun to focus on the role of slow wave
sleep. Slow wave sleep (SWS) encompasses the stage 3 4 subset of non REM sleep and is
characterized by delta waves that consist of slow oscillations of activity. This type of sleep occurs
primarily at the onset of sleep and time spent in SWS declines in humans as aging occurs. SWS seems
to be most important in the consolidation phase, though the mechanisms of this consolidation are still
being explored in the scientific community. However, the method of this memory consolidation is
currently a subject of hot debate. What caused scientists to link memory and sleep, particularly SWS?
Research as early as 1914 began to point to a decrease in memory capacity capabilities

Anion Of An Aldol Reaction In Which An Enolate Ion Formed By
An aldol reaction is an addition reaction in which an aldehyde or ketone is attacked by an enolate ion
of the same compound (Klein, 2015), but can also be an enolate ion of another compound. The enolate
ion formed is due to an anion coming in to deprotonate the alpha carbon of a carbonyl compound
(Klein, 2015). The general result of an aldol addition is always a β hydroxy aldehyde or ketone, but
can also undergo condensation as it sometimes loses a small molecule or water or an alcohol group
which will produce a different product altogether. This reaction can also serve as a chain elongation as
it forms a new C C bond (Mayo, Pike, Forbes, 2015). The hypothesis for this aldol reaction was to
yield dibenzalacetone, a bright yellow precipitate, with a 1:2 molar ration of acetone and
benzaldehyde (Handayani Arty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the stepwise mechanism, as shown in figure 1, an enolate is formed in the acetone compound when
a hydroxide ion deprotonates its alpha carbon due to benzaldehyde s absence of an alpha carbon with
any available protons. The carbon anion then proceeds to attack the carbonyl carbon on the
benzaldehyde carbon, which then results in a chain elongation as well as the oxygen receiving its lone
pair of electrons causing an instability issue. The oxygen then attacks a water molecule, taking a
hydrogen atom to produce an alcohol group. This is the general condition of a simple aldol reaction
(Klein, 2015). However, another hydroxide ion deprotonates the alpha carbon which is centered
between the alcohol and carbonyl groups, creating another

Justice And Injustice In Criminal Justice
For the past decade justice and injustice have made headlines on social media, news report, and in our
community. The current criminal justice system believe criminals should be punish and that the
punishment fit the crime innocent until proven guilty in the court of law. Moreover, many people like
myself justice means fairness and treating people fairly, without bias or partiality. However,
Nowadays as I ve observed justice seem to only be served to the wealthy, famous, and well liked. It
seems like regardless of whether they are wrong they still get away with crimes that others are
severing time in prison for.
Every year the imprisonment amount in the United State raises and so does questions about alternate
to the disciplinary practice.

  • 2. The Christian Faith Since The Reformation Of Luther Spener, like Luther, saw a need to reform what was there in the way of religious faiths. And like Luther, his intentions were not to remake the faith but to simply bring it back to where it belonged. Unlike the reformation of Luther, which failed to reform the Catholic Church and ended up splitting into the Protestant Church, Spener spent his time within the Protestant Church to reform the way people lived and thought. Arguably, the Pia Desidria that Spener wrote turned out to be the greatest paper to further the Christian faith since the Bible itself. Pietism is a movement that happened in the seventeenth and eighteenth century within Protestantism. By the end of the seventeenth century Protestantism had fallen away from its focus on Christ and a person s walk with Him and had fully submersed itself in to religious dogma. The movement started with one man, Philip Spener, growing up with a strong religious background and the writings of Johann Arndt, Spener went to the University of Strassburg. While attending school at Strassburg, he was taught by professors that justification by faith was more than just a doctrine but a spiritual rebirth. After spending three years in a pastorate at Strassburg, Spener went to Frankfort. Upon his arrival, he was shocked by the conditions of the town and abandoned traditional doctrine and started preaching from the entire Bible. • 4. Style Analysis Of Tim Burton s Corpse Bride And Edward... Style Analysis Essay We do not fear the unknown. We fear what we think about the unknown. Is a quote from Teal Swan. This idea is incorporated into a lot of director s movies, however Tim Burton, a creator of many famous movies, would probably have one of the best understandings of this idea. This is because Burton tends to use ideas about the unknown in many of his films. However, these ideas of fearing the unknown and curiosity of the unknown are especially prominent in Burton s films such as The Corpse Bride and Edward Scissorhands. Burton typically uses techniques such as some sort of misfit protagonist that is different than most people and a judgmental society that treats said protagonist in terrible ways to convey to the audience that society wrongly teaches people to fear the unknown. Burton typically has the misfit protagonist deemed an outcast by their society or the society they enter. For instance, in The Corpse Bride the protagonist, Victor Van Dort, is a sort of clumsy and, quite frankly, normal character. Yet despite how normal Victor is, his society, or more specifically, his parents and soon to be in laws, expect him to be this perfect person and, inevitably, fails to do so at his wedding rehearsal, because of this he is deemed an outcast by his parents and soon to be in laws. Eventually Victor runs away from his town and finds himself in an unknown place. Being in this place made Victor realize that he had no reason to fear the dead in the sort of ... MORE MARIJUANA LESS PROBLEMS A wise prophet once said mo money, mo problems . That phrase turns out to be rather interchangeable suggesting the more one has of anything, the more conflict it creates. An outlier to this theory is medical marijuana. Opposers thought that an increase in legal marijuana would lead to in influx in drug use among adolescents and adults. They got half of that right. How To Write A Critique Of Favorite Kjv Text (A Critique of Favorite KJV Text in Textbook) In our English class we study a multitude of texts which slightly link together forming a chain that carries us throughout the year studying texts. After only a few months into our year, we have started to study the King James Version of the Bible that was written in 1611. When we study texts we don t just read them once. Instead, we deeply analyze line by line and, sometimes, word by word. The fact that the textbook company included a few Psalms and some stories from the book of Mathew and Luke, makes me proud that we can appreciate such works without taking it too far. After analyzing the four excerpts from the King James Version of the Bible, I took an admiration for the clipping of The Sermon on the Mount. First of all, The Sermon on the Mount, found in Mathew 6:24 30, begins by giving some instruction or guidance on how to perceive God. Many would argue that it is controversial as to how God wants to be admired and how someone can show him their admiration. In order for an invention, such as the workmate, to be patentable it must have certain features present. The invention must be a completely new idea and have no relation to any other patented material. The invention, if an adaption to an already known product, must be non obvious. Meaning that if an ordinary person working in the specific industry deems the adaption as obvious, then the patent will not be granted. It states that the two clamp segments are wooden and that one side will be operable while the other is static. Thus allowing for tapered sections to be clamped together. These wooden segments then form the work surface of the bench. The bench is held in the upright position by using H frames. In order for the Workmate to be foldable, one of these frames has a hinge slightly higher than that to its counterpart. The base of the bench has a larger area than the work surface. It comprises of a flat horizontal component which sits directly on the floor when the Workmate is erected. By having a larger base section, it creates a sturdy work area which allows extra support. Its secondary purpose is to allow an individual to stand on the base, so they are beside one of the clamp members. By adding one s weight, it can create a more rigid structure if required. Social comparisons take place in the workplace, at school, within friend groups and many other areas. The social comparison theory may give us more knowledge about why and how we perform these comparisons. Leon Festinger was the psychologist who first brought up the idea of the social comparison theory. According to the theory, there exists two types of comparisons upward and downward. The somber mood continues with the procession of religious officials making their way to the same destination as the wailing women. Because of this fact, it means that this novel is a source of great insight into a first hand account, albeit with fictional prose, of Roman society through the eyes of a well endowed male, Lucius, the narrator of the novel. Through his travels and his various encounters along the way, both as a man and an ass (not mutually exclusive) we get to experience the many aspects of Roman society and culture. Through the novel, we get to experience their societal attitudes concerning gender, sexuality, and violence. Although, The Golden Ass is written as a fictional prose, for example there s no historical evidence of bestial transformations in the Roman Empire, the base of the storytelling in which Apuleius writes from can be seen as a semi realistic representation and accounts of Roman society at its peak and give us insight into their views on sexuality and gender. The Reflection Of Social Status In African Art The Reflection of Social Status in African Art The attachment of labels to particular groups of people is something society just can t stop doing. Categorizing brings comfort in a world that can often be very brutal and chaotic. Most people s first thoughts when looking at or meeting someone are along the lines of trying to guess what kind of person they are based on how they look, to get a better understanding of their social status. This idea is reflected within the arts as well, such as in the use of distinguishing factors to discern a leader or deity from mere mortals. In African culture, people of higher status often employed the fine arts in combination with other methods, to embed their absolute power into the minds of their normal counterparts. Hierarchical scale is a favorite among ancient artists when creating works featuring a high ranking member of society, be it a god or a mortal king. People in power want to remain relevant to the people they serve, and this relevance is often reiterated through forms of political propaganda that make them appear more menacing or divine. One of the more blatant examples of art indicating and reinforcing social status is the Altar to the Hand and Arm (Kleiner 402 403). Upon first glance, the most important figure can be picked out of the other figures being depicted in this piece. The war was between two national super powers the United States and the Soviet Union. The war was one big chicken match seeing who could build the biggest bomb the fastest. The big argument was between communism and democracy. The USA supported Democracy and its freedoms. Democracy is basically freedom, you may do as you please and make your own decisions. You can be a bartender or a CEO your fate lies in your hands and not the governments. Also the biggest perk to democracy is the right to vote. You can vote on you countries leader vs. a king or a prime minister. The people of democracy have a say in the government. The USSR supports Communism. Communism is led by a prime minister and gives the people no choices. You may not choose who leads your country. The government decides your future you have no say in your job or your pay. Everything is decided for you like you re a toddler. Most of the world today in democratic (including the USSR) and communism is dying out. Both of these supper powers used the Domino Effect to spread their choice of government. • 25. Mcdonald s A Competitive Advantage SYNOPSIS In the United States, the fast food market provides consumers quick meals at a reasonable cost. It has grown significantly in recent years with an 8.7% average annual growth rate throughout the 1980 s. The concept of the industry, providing healthy alternatives to traditional fast food and being environmentally sound is the latest example how consumers affect the industry. The companies must be able to change very quickly in order to meet these customer demands and the changing environment while still conforming to its strategy. For an example, consider McDonald s Corporation; it is a company that has been able to remain true to its philosophy and still be able to adapt to the market situation. The resources and capabilities the company has assembled has allowed it to be a consistent top performer even in a market that is competitive. This paper discusses several capabilities and resources that provided McDonald s a competitive advantage: food innovations, customer satisfaction, regulatory standards, intensive training program, quality products, franchisee relationships, and supplier relations. By applying the VRIO theory to the information discovered in the case, it was determined that the resources and capabilities that McDonald s possessed in the 1990 s allowed it to gain a sustainable competitive advantage which lead to industry success throughout the years. • 27. Final Reflection On Food Nourishment ACE 435 Final Reflection Jon and Rachel are awesome! Thank you all for a wonderful class! 1. Which guest speaker hosted in class this semester had the greatest impact on you? What did you learn from him/her and how might it affect your future? The topic that had the greatest impact on me is about food security by professor Michelson. In the lecture, we discussed the importance of food security, the trends of rising global food demand, factors that drives the expected demand increase, and also the relationship between income and food. The first question she came up with is why food security became such a major challenge worldwide? In my point of view, one of the simple reason is that everybody needs food. By answering this question, she introduced the definition of food security, and three hierarchical pillars. I learned that population growth, climate change, and water scarcity are some of the factor that cause food security became a problem. Also, as people become more affluent they start to change their tastes. For example, meat consumption in both developed and developing countries predict to increase while their income rise. Then we analyzed couple graph and table. In the over nourishment map, we found out that Europe, North America and Oceania seems waste the most food. In the map of meat demand driver, I learned that since two third of meat Chinese consume is pork, China actually consumes more total meat calories than US. Last but not least, professor Michelson introduced Engel s law and Bennett s law. Engel s law stated that as income increase, the portion of income spent on food falls, but the amount of money that expend on food might increase. Bennett s law stated that as income rises, the portion of starchy food in the diet falls. One of the interesting things I found out in her presentation is that if an average individual has an intake calories below 1690 1930 kcal per day, he or she is undernourished. I was shock by this information because I used to take around 1400 kcal per day, and I am actually undernourished if by this definition. After listened to professor Michelson s speech, I realized that feeding the people is one of the greatest challenged worldwide. The challenge is not only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Analysis Of Hamlet And King Lear The social tolerance of these plays goes hand in hand with their exploration of human psychology. The hallmark examples of Shakespeare s penetration into the human psyche are Hamlet and King Lear. In the former, Shakespeare explores the state of melancholia in the young prince of Denmark. Even after the play is finished the audience is still left pondering whether or not Hamlet is truly sane. Bloom writes: the question of Hamlet always must be Hamlet himself, for Shakespeare created him to be as ambivalent and divided a consciousness as a coherent drama could sustain (387). Further, in his analysis of the character, Bloom asserts that Hamlet transcends his play (385). Running with this notion, it is possible to suggest that, in the character of Hamlet, Shakespeare explores the psychology of morality in and of itself. Shakespeare critic Richard Hilliard asserts that in Hamlet s makeup is one of an adept moral consciousness; He writes: What should be clear...is that, until the tragic catastrophe, Hamlet is a moral dynamo, systematically interrogating every echelon of Claudius s crooked court, flashing mirrors of folly and vice into blind eyes... (Hilliard). This perspective positions Hamlet as transcendently aware of the multiple moral consequences he faces in his act of revenge. Consequently, without absolute certainty, Hamlet hesitates to act. In Hamlet s soliloquies lie the most profound insights of psychological deliberation and ruminations on human existence. The famous to be or not to be soliloquy highlights the confliction of the mind that Hamlet, and doubtless every viewer or reader, has encountered when faced with a decision that will leave them scathed. Furthermore, Hamlet s reaction, when faced with the skull of his former jester, Yorick, uncovers, in the most poignant way, the fragility of human existence and the psyche s contemplation of death: Alas, poor / Yorick! I knew him...a fellow of infinite / jest, of most excellent fancy. He hath borne me on / his back a thousand times. And now how abhorred / in my imagination it is! My gorge rises at it. • 36. S 1st Symphony And Lord Chandos Letter And Schnitzler s... Jaehun Lee 12/4/17 3rd Writing Assignment At the end of the 19th century, fin de siècle did not just indicate the end of one century: it indicated the collapse of language and a way of thinking. This idea was illustrated by works such as von Hofmannstahl s Lord Chandos Letter and Schnitzler s Dream Story, which seem to argue that a new mode of thinking was necessary for a new age. Indeed, Freud s writings and Trakl s poems offered this new mode of thinking by challenging the border between what is real and what is imaginary through their works. In music and art, a similar trend was taking place: late 19th century works offered the audience a window into the artist s emotions, experiences, and desires. This idea is seen in Gustav Mahler s 1st Symphony and Egon Schiele s Seated Male Nude, in which both artists channel their experiences and emotions to release suppressed elements of their psyches. However, the purpose for their expressivity is different: Mahler s expressivity stems from a desire to find relief from mental stress stemming from his turbulent life, Schiele s from a desire to explore new ways of conveying the self. Mahler s 1st Symphony holds an intimate relationship with his childhood and upbringing; the music reflects and reveals Mahler s experiences and desires for what his future will look like. The discovery of distinct states showed sleep was not just a passive behavior. Anion Of An Aldol Reaction In Which An Enolate Ion Formed By An aldol reaction is an addition reaction in which an aldehyde or ketone is attacked by an enolate ion of the same compound (Klein, 2015), but can also be an enolate ion of another compound. The enolate ion formed is due to an anion coming in to deprotonate the alpha carbon of a carbonyl compound (Klein, 2015). The general result of an aldol addition is always a β hydroxy aldehyde or ketone, but can also undergo condensation as it sometimes loses a small molecule or water or an alcohol group which will produce a different product altogether. This reaction can also serve as a chain elongation as it forms a new C C bond (Mayo, Pike, Forbes, 2015). The hypothesis for this aldol reaction was to yield dibenzalacetone, a bright yellow precipitate, with a 1:2 molar ration of acetone and benzaldehyde (Handayani Arty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the stepwise mechanism, as shown in figure 1, an enolate is formed in the acetone compound when a hydroxide ion deprotonates its alpha carbon due to benzaldehyde s absence of an alpha carbon with any available protons. The carbon anion then proceeds to attack the carbonyl carbon on the benzaldehyde carbon, which then results in a chain elongation as well as the oxygen receiving its lone pair of electrons causing an instability issue. The oxygen then attacks a water molecule, taking a hydrogen atom to produce an alcohol group. This is the general condition of a simple aldol reaction (Klein, 2015). However, another hydroxide ion deprotonates the alpha carbon which is centered between the alcohol and carbonyl groups, creating another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Justice And Injustice In Criminal Justice For the past decade justice and injustice have made headlines on social media, news report, and in our community. The current criminal justice system believe criminals should be punish and that the punishment fit the crime innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
