IT Management Capability Essay
2.2Effect of IT management s capability on non financial firm performance
IT management capabilities are defined as the ability of an organization s IT and management
staff to administer IT resources and transform them for the creation of business value (Peppard J. ,
2007). IT function is typically portrayed as an island, separated from the rest of the organization.
IT is usually seen as a resource that can be managed from within a box on the organizations map.
Yet research clearly indicates otherwise; Peppard (2007) is quoted as saying, IT cannot be managed
as an island but must be fully integrated with the mainland . In his paper examining the Conundrum
of IT management, he uses this analogy to show how firms neglect the IT function ... Show more

Bhatt Grover, 2005; using the well known edicts of RBV empirically assess distinct IT capabilities
and their relationship with competitive advantage of a firm. Their study attempts to distinguish
between a number of IT capabilities. They uncover that managerial skills is among the valuable
(i.e., have an effect on performance), heterogeneously distributed across companies (i.e., are not
the same across companies), and imperfectly mobile (i.e., are difficult to acquire in resource
markets or develop internally) resources in firms. A similar position is affirmed by (Dehning
Stratopoulos, 2003) that uses secondary data from Computerworld to assess IT capabilities and
competitive advantage. The study assesses managerial skills and technical skills and discovers that
managerial skills are positively related to the duration of competitive advantage.
Evidence deduced from prior literature show that I.T management is manifested by the collection of
IT processes in the areas of planning, investment decision making, coordination, and control.
(Peppard J. , 2007) Intimates that IT management capability is generally reflected by the level at
which such processes are structured in formal and informal practices.
This study will review literature each of the process of IT management identified, in an attempt to
draw a better understanding:

Jonathon Swift Misogyny
Jonathon Swift steps into risky territory as he addresses misogyny in the invasive, satirical way
he does in his (year) controversial poem The Lady s Dressing Room. Perhaps not surprisingly,
Lady Montagu takes advantage of her literary pull and writes a satirical response, clearly
offended by the misogynist message she assumed the poem to have. While Swift s poem gives a
significant amount of evidence to justify Montagu s retort, there is perhaps a deeper amount of
evidence that suggests she missed Swift s point. Each poem has a satiric closure at its end, but
Swift s choice of words lean towards a position of commentary on misogynyrather than a position
supporting it. In contrast, the last line of Montagu s poem pins Swift down as a staunch... Show

After their beauty has been brought to life from the dung in which they were planted in, women
become gaudy tulips (). Understandably, one can see how Lady Montagu may have danced over
this image with the stench lingering from the final word she read. Had she taken the time to
analyze this phrase, she may not have been so harsh in her action. To begin, one must start with
gaudy, simply because of its modern connotation to mean something is showy, or tasteless in its
ornateness. In the context of this poem, this word did not have such a connotation, so as it appears
to mean, simply, luxurious (Oxford English Dictionary). Keeping this is in mind as one looks at
the context of the tulip at this time, it is clear that this simple comparison to a flower actually as
much more meaning to it than at first glance. Just before swift s time the tulip caused a financial
crisis because of how desired it was (Donatini). This being said, the tulip had not only visual
beauty but historical extravagance. Knowing the background on both gaudy and tulip, it is easy to
see that Lady Montagu failed to see the rich beauty Swift truly was emphasizing that is found
within women, a beauty that is truly dependent upon, not despite, their dung like qualities. [This
imagery paints an incredible picture of the idea that beauty can, and traditionally does, come from
forth from unexpected places. This is true especially when one takes the image further in terms of
the seed of the tulip having contained within it all the beauty it will possess when it becomes a full
flower, thus needing the rich dung to encourage that beauty to blossom.] It is evident that Montagu
missed all this image has to offer a woman judging by the harsh, though clever, final line in her

A research specialist for the CDC, Dr. James Curran, stated in July of 1981 that no cases have
been reported to date outside the homosexual community or in women (Altman, 1981). That may
have been the case in that moment of time, but much changed over the course of only a few
months. Between July and December of 1981, another population was identified as suffering
from the illness that had no name. This was the population of injecting drug users (IDU) and it
was no longer limited to the United States, as Great Britain had its first reported case in that
same month (AVERT, 2015). With the HIV/AIDS outbreak achieving a trans continental status,
efforts were ramped up to identify the source of transmission. By the end of 1982, reports of
cases with similar symptoms were coming from several European countries, Uganda, and Haiti
which reflected the widespread nature of the situation (AVERT, 2015). In just one year, the
number of cases reported in the United States alone went from 41 to 452 and from just 2 states
affected to 23 (CDC, 2015). It became a global health concern due to the wasting effects and
rapidity of onset to death. Finally identified as being a blood borne pathogen, AIDS became the
name and transmission linked to exposure to blood by sexual relations, needle sharing, and even
blood transfusion. By October 1983, the World Health

A Scrutiny of Othello s Character as a Tragic Hero
In Othello, the Moor of Venice, the titular character, Othello, is the protagonist and subject to
scrutiny as to whether or not he is a tragic hero in the conventional Aristotelian definition of the
term. Aristotle believed a tragedy served to exercise the mature citizen s moral sensibilities
(Ferrari, 1999, p. 181). There are several different components of Aristotle s definition of a tragic
hero, which essentially serve as a set of criteria to determine whether or not Othellotruly is a tragic
hero and, by extension, determine whether or not this play is a conventional Aristotelian tragedy. A
thorough analysis of Aristotle s definition of the term when applied to Othello, however, reveals
that his characterization is not congruent with that of a tragic hero since he displays a number of
characteristics that are ill befitting of such figures which means this play is not an Aristotelian
tragedy. One of the primary facets of the definition of a tragic hero is that he or she is not an
ordinary person, but rather an extraordinary one due, in no small part, to his or her noble birth.
As such, tragedies depict good men (Reeves, 1952, p.172). Othello, however, does not hail from
such a noble lineage, which the reader knows due to the fact that he is a Moor employed in the
Venetian military. Although Othello is a fairly high ranking general in this army, he does not
descend from a noble birth and earned his ranking from sheer hard work and through many trials in
service. The

James Baldwin s Remember This House By James Baldwin
James baldwin was an American novelist, essayist, playwright, poet, and social critic. His essays
were mostly of racial, sexual, and class distinctions in Western societies, mostly in mid 20th
century America. Some of Baldwin s essays are book length, for instance The Fire Next Time
(1963), No Name in the Street (1972), and The Devil Finds Work (1976). An unfinished manuscript,
Remember This House, was expanded upon and adapted for cinema as the Academy Award
nominated documentary film I Am Not Your Negro. Writer and playwright James Baldwin
was born
August 2, 1924, in Harlem, New York. One of the 20th century s greatest writers, Baldwin broke
new literary ground with the exploration of racial and social issues in his many works. He was
especially well known for his essays on the black experience in America.
Baldwin was born to a young single mother, Emma Jones, at Harlem Hospital. She reportedly
never told him the name of his biological father. Jones married a Baptist minister named David
Baldwin when James was about three years old. Despite their strained relationship, he followed in
his stepfather s footsteps who he always referred to as his father during his early teen years. He
served as a youth minister in a Harlem Pentecostal church from the ages of 14 to 16.
Baldwin developed a passion for reading at an early age, and demonstrated a gift for writing during
his school years. He attended DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx, where he worked on the

Becoming A Knight In The Middle Ages
In the middle ages a young boys dream was to become a knight, but there were many
requirements you needed in order to become a knight. One requirement is that you need to have
the money to pay for the armor, war house and weapons because these things are not cheap. Only
very rich people could afford this. These people were normally from the noble or the aristocratic
classes.
If you or your parents were to decide that you wanted to be a knight when you are seven you must
go live in a knight s home. In this knight s house you would learn how to become a knight. The
boy would then basically become the knight s servant. By living with the knight the boy would
learn good manners and how to behave. With the knight the boy would train to fight.

Character of Stanley Kowalski in Tennessee Williams A...
The Character of Stanley in A Streetcar Named Desire
Animals are, by nature, passionately instinctive; that is, when reacting to a situation, they do so
forcefully and spontaneously. Therefore, we can think of passionate instinct as an intense, innate
reaction to a particular situation. Animals also lack what we call inhibition the suppression of a
natural drive, instinct or feeling. For instance, when a skunk senses danger, it will not restrain its
natural, defensive reaction and will not hesitate to spray a foul smelling substance in the direction
of the danger for self protection. When cattle sense a threat to their environment, they do not try to
rationalize their way to safety they stampede. If a bull s passions are ... Show more content on

Stanley seems to be what we would consider a typical man: he works to support his wife, whom
he loves dearly; he gets together with his friends to play cards or go bowling, and he seems to
think of himself as the king of his castle . However, he is also seen as being animalistic in nature,
as he, too, is ruled by passionate instinct. We can think of him as being animalistic because his
reaction to various situations for instance, his reaction when Stella breaks up his card game (I, iii,
57) is often intense, violent, and very instinctive in nature.
However, animals also become threatened and often react in a savage, violent way in order to
defend themselves. When Stanley learns of his wife s loss of Belle Reve, he reacts in the same
way that an animal would when a threat to its family is sensed; Stanley reacts with growing
hostility and violent, uncivilized behavior. He instantly believes that Blanche, his sister in law, has
swindled his wife, Stella. Since he thinks that Stella has been swindled, he feels that he, too, has
been swindled. When Stella tells him not to question Blanche about Belle Reve, we can clearly see
that he has become hostile towards Blanche: So that s the deal, huh? Sister Blanche cannot be
annoyed with business details right now (I, ii, 34). He then becomes defensive, searching through
Blanche s property, becoming angry towards

Untranslatability from English to Romanian
INTRODUCTION The need for translation has always existed since the appearance of the human
being on the Earth. Translation is not only a way to explain what a language said to another, it is
also a way to present one culture to another. As to the notion of culture, Edward Burnett Tylor
considers that , culture...is that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, morals, law,
customs and many other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society . This
definition covers almost every aspect of human s life and lays at the basis of most modern
anthropological conceptions of culture. Putting it simply, culture is rooted in history, it represents
all the main peculiarities of a certain group of people, it is defined by language, religion, cuisine,
social habits, music and arts. In the process of translationculture cannot be ignored. Each culture is
unique, as a result, its language is also unique, so when translating from one language into another
we come across unique problems. It is commonly considered that understanding the culture of a
country is only by understanding what people of that country are saying or writing. However, in
practice, the fact that language is rooted in culture is often forgotten. The bigger the cultural
difference, the more difficult is to translate the culture bound concepts. Dealing with untranslatable
terms is not an easy task at all, it requires a lot of knowledge, professionalism and even

Pictures version of the famous Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice directed by Joe Wright and

The trailer for Pride and Prejudice made it seem as though this was just going to be a love story
between a rich man named Darcy, played by Matthew MacFadyen and a poor girl named Elizabeth
Bennet, played by Keira Knightley, but overall it wasn t just that. Under that story lies an
overwhelming amount of social conflict, ideas spreading from the feminist theory, to marriage, to
most importantly social class. The story looks into the Bennet family and their situation. They are
about to lose all their land, and society in their time is patriarchal based in that only eldest son
receives entailment to their real estate. However, the real problem comes from the fact that Mr.
Bennett has five daughters! Mr. and Mrs. Bennett marry their daughters off to men with power and
money so they can ensure that they are financially secured. In this era women had no choice but to
marry young, dues to the face they didn t have as many job opportunities. On top of that if they
hadn t been married they would have been mocked.

What Is The Tone Of The Scarlet Letter By Hester Prynne
D.H Lawrence a British writer critiques the novel s Scarlet Letters heroine and gives his opinions
on her in a persuasive, argumentative manner in his critical essay called On The Scarlet Letter. He
believes that the heroine of the novel is not the beloved character readers believe she is. Using
literary techniques like an ironclad tone, abrupt syntax and biblical allusions Lawrence convince s
people that the beloved American heroine Hester Prynneis truly a conniving adulteress who thrives
off of stealing a man s purity and possibly his soul.

Harsh and abrupt syntax shoots literary bullets at Hester Prynne s character and rips holes into it
that has not been seen before and Nathaniel Hawthorne in Lawrence s assessment of the Scarlet
Letter. Bullets get his point across accurately and properly. The sentences are written in a bullet
point format which launches his opinions with rigor. Lawrence s pinpointed syntax with line by
line criticism leaves no room for the reader to ponder what he is saying. This makes the writer and
the audience connect and believe what that Hester is longer a victim but, the antagonist. What
Lawrence is saying through his exact and precise structure comes through seamlessly to the
audience without a doubt. Consequently, he uses short and to the point sentences like A.The
Scarlet Letter. Adulteress! The great Alpha. Alpha! Alpha! Adulteress! to get his points across and
tear apart Hester Prynne (Lawrence). Lawrence wants his audience to see that Hester herself is the
Scarlet Letter and the Scarlet Letter is also Hester. The abrupt, harsh, and disruptive syntax is used
to persuade the audience into seeing the truth behind the curtain that is Hester Prynne while, she is
being ripped from limb to limb with the bullets Lawrence is throwing . He does his best to make
his sentences spew at the reader in an organized pattern that allows his thoughts to be conveyed
exactly the way he wants.

Congestion and Traffic Pollution in New York City Essay
Congestion and traffic pollution has been a major problem in New York City for years. There
have been many laws, tolls, and fines implemented over the past few decades to try and fix the
problem. Yet, congestion still exists. Congestion occurs when there is overcrowding on roadways
that s causes traffic jams. There are several reasons for the severity of this issue. Congestion
causes a lot of delays in the city. It is unlikely that people are on time for anything, even if they
planned ahead. With traffic in the city the way it is, you can t blame them. The indirect effect of
congestion is traffic pollution. Traffic pollution is polluting of the environment caused by harmful
toxins and gases given released by cars. The amount of pollution... Show more content on

This pollution increases health risks by introducing people to harmful toxins released by cars,
specifically in the asthmatic population. Hence, one can see the problems associated with traffic
congestion and pollution. There are several ways to counteract the problem of traffic congestion
and pollution. Firstly, the most practical solution to New York Citys congestion problem is to
decrease the number of cars on the road. One plausible way would be to promote and offer
alternative methods of transportation such as buses, subways, and taxis. If people used more
public transportation there would be fewer cars on the road, less congestion, and less traffic
pollution. Another alternative would be to increase toll prices. By increasing tolls on bridges
and tunnels, people would be much less inclined to drive to the city and as a result there would
be less traffic congestion and pollution. Gridlock is a major cause of traffic problems in
Manhattan. If we were to implement more severe fines for blocking intersections, people would
not try to beat the light, in effect decreasing overall congestion. A third approach to try and
resolve this issue would be to change some one way streets to two way streets. Doing this would
allow easier access to destinations and would eliminate indirect route taking. As a result, overall
pollution would decrease. These are some of the methods that would be viable in decreasing

A Paper On The Genus Hominins Essay
This is going to be a paper on the genus Hominins. Hominins are early human ancestors the first
being Sahelanthropus Tchadensis and ends with Homo Sapiens. A specie is a group of similar
animals, or plants and in our case homo, paranthropus and australopithecus that can interbreed
between each other and have a direct connection in lineage.A genus is a grouping of alike and
related species that all share in many traits. It is an overview of species that are different enough
to be put in one group but similar to be put under an umbrella term. In this paper it will take about
the later half of the hominin genus, from Homo rudolfensis to Homo sapiens. We will be taking a
look into how they are connected if they are, why I did not connect others and the culture behind it
all.
Homo rudolfensis was found in 1986 by V.P. Alexeev . 2.4 1.8 Million years ago. Rudolfensis
maybe one of the first Homo Species and can maybe be traced back to kenyanthropus platyops.
Many believed at first glance Homo erectus was close to Homo habilis because they shared many
of the same features, were found near each other and dated to around the same time to 2.4 to 1.8
million years ago for habilis 2.3 to 1.5 million years ago for rudolfensis. Both are put under scrutiny
because many believe that due to the case of them having longer faces and bigger molars that they
are from Australopithecus and should be placed with them.Making them an australopithecus would

How Do Heroes Contribute To Society
Many people have been to a Feed my Starving Children, or a place like it. Even those who haven

there are many things that heroes bring to society three of them are giving hope during difficult

heroes bring an immeasurable amount of help to society.
One thing that heroes bring to society, is giving hope during difficult times or events. First of

To start, heroes will save others even if it means possibly injuring themselves. For example,
everyday thousands for firefighters risk their lives saving others. They know that becoming a
firefighter meant facing risks and even death, yet they did it to help others. Secondly, heroes use
their own money to support the needs of others. For example, Bill and Melinda Gates created a
foundation with their own money which has donated billions of dollars globally to support
people and other organizations. Bill and Melinda have pledged to give away the majority of their
money and keep doing that out of generosity. Lastly, heroes will sacrifice time and effort in the
service of others. For example, anyone who has volunteered at a food donation service like Feed

In conclusion, sacrifice for the sake of others is another important thing that heroes bring to

efficient lignin degrading microorganisms studied. It has been reported that lignin degrading fungi
secreted enzymes collectively termed ligninases (Figure 2). These include two ligninolytic
families; phenol oxidases (laccases) and peroxidases [lignin peroxidase (LiP), manganese
peroxidase (MnP) and versatile peroxidase (VP)]. In delignification process, ligninolytic enzymes
have been applied in different methods as fungal delignification, enzymatic delignification, laccase
mediator system (LMS), and integrated fungal fermentation (IFF) (Angel, 2002; Martin, 2002;

Lignolytic peroxydases
LiP (EC 1.11.1.14) catalyzes the H2O2 dependent oxidative depolymeriza¬tion of lignin. It was

chrysosporium and other white rot fungi such as Phanerochaete sordida, T. versicolor, Phlebia

Commercials Of Kobe Bryant
Did you see that man Kobe Bryant last night? He put the team on his back! This is what
everyone at school was saying during the 2009 NBA finals. At the time I was in the seventh
grade and had no idea what was going on, although it interested me since all my friends knew
about this event. After school that day, I saw a commercial on ESPN advertising all basketball
fans to watch, Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakerstake on the Orlando Magic tonight at 6 pm.
The commercial informed me with the following information, it was Game 5 of a 7 game series
and the Lakers were up 3 1 and the Lakers needed to win one more game to become a 16 time
NBA Championship franchise. Kobe Bryant was the team captain who lead his team into the finals

Watching Kobe Bryant s story influenced me to become just like him. Basketball has impacted

student just getting by in the class. Before basketball I was nowhere near the smartest student in
my classes and after not making my eighth grade basketball team that motivated me to assign my
education as the highest priority so that I could play basketball. I ended up playing basketball all
four years in high school and averaged a 4.0 academically with perfect attendance. It s a humbling
experience how the conversations at school and the first basketball commercial I watched about the
NBA finals lead me to play a sport that I

Downsizing Healthcare
Downsizing Medical Care in the United States
Mary Carnahan
HA 303: Public Policy in Health Care
August 5, 2015
Introduction For one reason or another hospitals are closing their doors. In this paper we will look
at how the downsizing of hospitals is affecting medical care in the United States. Why have some
of these hospitals closed?
High Point Community Hospital Closing I personally haven t seen or heard of any hospitals
closing down in my area recently but I do remember back in 1985 High Point Community
Hospital, now High Point Regional (since 1996) closed their doors only to move next door to the
new hospital which offered 351 private beds, in 1985 the hospital had only had 100 private beds.

In my community High Point Regional went from a hospital with room for 12 patients and
employed four nurses and a housekeeper. The cost of a week s hospitalization was between $10
and $15 (High Point Regional 2015), in 1904 to 351 private beds for medical and surgical patients
serving over 120,000 patients each year, and 15 operating rooms. So I think in this case High Point
Regional is growing with the community.
Is Downsizing of Hospitals Affecting Medical Care in the United States? I also think a lot of
these community hospitals are downsizing and/ or closing is because with the new technologies
coming across the board, the smaller hospitals cannot afford the upgrades like the hospitals in
the big cities. Case in point, I use to live in Pennsylvania and in the county I lived in there are a
lot of very small towns. The hospital that was in our town Spangler Memorial was what everyone
call a Band Aid hospital because they were not equip for major surgeries or baby

How Did The Revolutionary War Start
Corey G Reason why The Revolutionary War started Some people might wonder how The
Revolutionary War was started. The revolutionary war was started from both sides. The
colonists did somethings to cause the war to start as well as the British. Some reason why the
war was started was because of taxes, The events the colonists started and The Intolerable act.
One great reason the war was started was because of taxes. One thing that caused a lot of of taxes
was because of The Stamp Act, this act angered the colonists and caused a lot of protests in the
colonies. Another huge tax was the Declaratory Act, which allowed the british to tax them and the
british took advantage the act because they then made the townshend act which taxed the colonies
for many things. The last tax was the tea tax. The tea tax was a tax on tea which made the colonist
furious which led to one of the biggest events in history. If the colonists never taxed the colonists as

Supernatural in Shakespeare s Macbeth
The Witches and Lady Macbeth Cause the Downfall of Macbeth William Shakespeare s tragic
play, Macbeth shows the gradual descent of the character Macbeth into the moral abyss. Macbeth s
yearning for power draws him to the murder of King Duncan, Banquo, and Macduff s family. It is
difficult to understand how a courageous, gentle man such as Macbeth, could be involved in such
villainous activities. In truth, it was the witches and Lady Macbeth that transformed into evil
Macbeth s natural desire for control and authority. The play, Macbeth clearly illustrates that wicked
intention must, in the end, produce wicked action. Shakespeare focuses on Macbeth s courage early
in the play. For example, Duncan and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor!/ All hail, Macbeth! That shalt be King hereafter (I.iii.52 57)
When Macbeth hears this prophecy, many questions instantly run through his head. He begins to
wonder, What are they talking about and how will I become king? Macbeth does not entirely
trust the witches, for he does identify them with evil. The foretelling of the witches sparks the
plot of the murder. The sparks burst into flame when Lady Macbeth hears of the prophecy. Lady
Macbeth is canny and masterful as she propels Macbeth to kill Duncan. She binds Macbeth s
attention to the throne of Scotland, but never to the severity of the crime. Lady Macbeth is clever
when she constantly urges Macbeth to forget about his torments and the brutal death he has
caused. Before the actual murder, Macbeth is shrouded with fear; Banquo can see it on his face.
Although Banquo does not know about the planned murder, he asks, Good sir, why do you start,
and seem to fear/ Things that do sound so fair (I.iii.58 59)? Macbeth ponders what would happen if
the murder scheme fails, and discusses this possibility with his wife. As Macbeth struggles with
fear in the presence of Lady Macbeth, she constantly reassures him that there is nothing to fear and
that the murder will be for the better. This fear demonstrates that Macbeth realizes the difference
between right and wrong, good and evil, and the consequences thereof. However, the

Racism is one of the world s major issues today. Many people are not aware of how much racism
still exists in our schools, at work, and anywhere else where social lives are happening. In the
story, A Party Down at the Square demonstrates how white folks are rank the highest in their
hierarchy and the way they treat the blacks as if they were less than a human being. Judging
someone by the color of their skin and ethnicity is ignorant. No human raceis superior; no religious

Those of us who brought India food from home all sat at the same table in the cafeteria. Boys
would wander by our table and sing, shiiit. I smell shiiit. They would lean over our shoulders,

them not only by color, but by the things they do, like: the food they eat, the way they practice
their religions, and crimes committed by certain racial group, etc. They think Indian s food
smells disgusting. When Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom came out: the movie shows

Drone surveying is the operation of finding contour, dimension, position or other particulars of the
earths surface by using remote controlled aircraft. A drone is basically an unmanned aircraft. It is
also called an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) or a flying robot. It can be remotely controlled or
fly by itself through flight plans that are software controlled. Such flight plans are in their
embedded system that works with GPS. Drones are known to be used for military purposes, but
they are also used in different activities like traffic monitoring, weather monitoring, surveillance,
fire fighting, search and rescue, film making, recreational activities, etc. It is also used in surveying,

There are no two diets that are the exact same and nor are there any two diets that work the same
way for every person. There are a few common diets that people tend to consider and they are the
USDA food patterns, DASH eating plan and the Mediterranean style eating pattern. While they are
all a type of diet or lifestyle change they do share some common factors but on the other hand they
do all have some differences. The end result for them all though is to help people live a healthier
lifestyle. When looking at these different dietsthe main similarity is that they all want you to enjoy

At the Time of the Louisville Flood Essay
The image I have chosen is one by Margaret Bourke White, titled At the Time of the Louisville
Flood . Margaret Bourke White was born on June 14, 1904. She first gained recognition as an
industrial photographer based in Cleveland, Ohio and worked for the magazine company known
as Fortune. She then became one of the founding member for the magazine LIFE, having shot the
very first cover of their magazine. Margaret s name became world famous for her amazing

Having this photography in black and white makes the subject
Furthermore, this photograph is more powerful in black and white rather than in color because the
contrast between the main subjects is more obvious. It is taken from an ordinary perspective and
angle which draws the viewers in easily. The picture is therefore divided into two parts supplement
to each other from this point of view.
This is an effective and influential piece due to the issue brought up by the irony. Through her
photograph, Margaret Bourke White successfully depicted the living standard of African
Americans in reality back in the 1930 s compared to the so called American dream. This is one of
my favorite photographs because of the truthfulness it represents. This image not only brings the
suffering of the flood victims to the viewers but also demonstrates the mock made by the billboard
toward the victims.
If this photograph is presented without any descriptions and title, it would make little sense to the
spectators. Without showing the very front of the bread line, it would be hard for viewers to know
who are the people

Summary Of Srinivasha RamaanujanBy John Keats
collaborated on several ground breaking papers. But in 1917, as a result of the climate and a poor
diet, Ramanujan contracted tuberculosis. A well known story tells Hardy visiting him in hospital;
unable to think what to say.
Placing Ramanujan along side John Keats may seem a bit paradoxical as he former belonging to
Mahemtics the latter to English Literature. Moreover, Ramanujan has never been marked having an
interest in English language nor in literature. But the juxtaposition is apt and appropriate in the
sense that both the heroes of respective faculties are te best examples of the proverb, Men live in
deeds not in years . John Keats lived for only twenty sic years. In his short span of life granted to
him, he dived deep into the ocean of literature and gave many precious verses that are peculiar
and unique. He left an everlasting imprint on the body of English literature by devoting his life to
the service of English Literarure. He lived through many odds in life. Miseries dominated in his
life. He died of tuberculosis. He stands no way less than the other poets, some were fortunate even
to spend enough to a century.
Likewise, Srinivasha Ramanujan lived only thirty three years. For him also, life was not a bed of

mathematical passion notching up several milestones in his short life span. Even though he had

Absolute Value Of Being A Real Estate Agent
Absolute value can be used in a variety of ways in real life occupations like a real estate agent.
Absolute value is important because if a number does not work because it s negative, absolute
value is used to make the number positive. Out of many job possibilities, I chose a real estate agent
because it uses absolute value the most in the job with things like measuring distances and financial
transactions. A real estateagent, by definition, is a person who sells and rents out buildings and
land for clients This job is important because real estate agents are the reason something has an
address and people have ever rented, bought, or sold homes. The following essay will discuss how
being a real estate agent is important to everyday life and uses... Show more content on

The first way is that they need to know measuring distances. Real estate agents need this for
tasks like placing for sale or open house signs in the perfect spot, taking pictures to make the
house look appealing to a buyer, measuring the rooms of home, and to know how far away the
house is from main places like a school. The last reason math is needed is for financial transactions.
This task is a necessity for selling, buying, or renting a house, or estimating costs of a home,
renovations or updates, and furniture.
To be a real estate agent, you have to have loads of requirements. One essential education
requirement is at least a high school diploma. So, no college is required but you probably have a
better chance at the job with college. Also, a real estate agent needs to have licenses for the state
they work in. Your state requires a specific number of hours of coursework or written or hands on
work in order to get your license.
Real estate agents are needed and can be quite helpful when in the market for a new home or trying
to sell yours. In all, this occupation is very useful and without it, the property market would be a

Elements Of A Short Story
Short stories can be bland and boring. As you read some of them, you can feel emotion or just read
a boring story about how something changed their life, but these three stories are interesting
because they develop horror. These short stories use different elements to create horror. The Tell
Tale Heart, A Rose for Emily, , and The Lottery develop horror/gothic elements.
First, The Tell Tale Heart develops horror by having an unreliable crazy narrator. For example, we
see his psyche in the introduction of Edgar Allan Poe s short story. I heard all things in the heaven
and earth. I heard many things in hell. How, then, am I mad? (par. 1). This gives the audience the
insight into the narrator s mind; therefore, the narrator has some sort of schizophrenia that causes
him to not hear, think, or behave correctly. As the narrator talks to the reader he thinks he is not
crazy and that his thoughts are normal. Next, the short story is written in first person point of
view which makes the story way more interesting and you see how mad this character is. I grew
furious as I gazed upon it (par. 9). In first person point of view the reader can almost imagine the
whole situation as the narrator is in the old man s room looking at his vulture eye. Plus, the narrator
killing the old man was premeditated, and that the narrator was in the man s house to murder him
due to his mental health issues. The psycho narrator in The Tell Tale Heart develops horror in this
short story.

Introduction Of Sudden Cardiac Death
Introduction
Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is the leading cause of death in exercising young athletes. 1 Current
estimates of the incidence of SCD in athletes range from almost one in a million to 1:23,000
athletes per year, while some subpopulations of athletes are reported at even higher risk with an
incidence of 1 in 3,000. 2 Such deaths often receive more attention because of the youth of the
victims and the perception that physically trained athletes are healthy. 3 SCD is often a result of
structural cardiac abnormalities that can be detected through the use of pre participation physicals.
1 Pre participation cardiovascular screening is the systematic practice of medically evaluating
large, general populations of athletes before participation to eliminate risk of SCD. 3 The National
Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) requires BOC (Board of Certification) certified athletic
trainers to be educated, trained, and evaluated in six major practice domains. 4 Prevention and
clinical evaluation are two of the six domains. The American Heart Association suggests that pre
screening athletes can improve the detection of cardiac abnormalities. 5 Athletic Trainers are
increasingly required to be the health care professionals administering pre participation physicals.
Athletic trainers need to have clinical competence such as knowledge and skill, and confidence in
performing cardiac auscultations to effectively detect cardiac abnormalities in athletes. The purpose

Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee And Manifest Destiny
Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee and Manifest Destiny Amanda Grav Manifest Destiny could be
described as the European White Man s belief that they were destined to settle the land that now
accounts for America. In Dee Brown s telling, he describes the relationships of the Native
Americans, the settlers of the states, and the United States government in a factual, yet
emotional description. In Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, his stance is explained, as well as
the background for his story. Accounts of life have been retold thousands of times from the
perspective of traders, ranchers, wagon trains and gold seekers; the story that oftentimes fails to
be told, is that of the American Indian. Brown s outline of the position of diverse western tribes
in 1860 does not include a description of their fates thirty years later. However, by focusing not
on the steady growth of white civilization westward from the Atlantic Coast but on the equally
steady decline of Indian civilization, Brown signals his intent to make his history of the West
tragic rather than celebratory. This focus on the fate of the Indians of the West was very unusual;
Brown s book was one of the first histories of the West to give its readers the American Indians
perspective on how the West was won or, as he would probably say, how the West was lost.
Readers learn of General Carleton s ferocity against the Indians and his great hunger for tribal land
and the minerals found on it. This, together with the settling of

Three different pieces of aluminum foil were used for three different trials in order to determine
the thickness. Data was then collected by using an electric balance for mass and a standard ruler
for length and width. The formulas used were area = length * width, volume = length * width *
height, and density = mass / volume. Thickness (height) was found simply by dividing mass by
density, width, and length. The average of our three trials was not only calculated, but also found
via the graph and slope.. A graph of area vs. mass was made with data points from our three trials.
Using linear fit, the graph showed that the slope, which was then divided by the density. This
calculation isolated the height in centimeters. The slope of the graph was 0.004181 g/cm2. This
value shows the relationship between the area of the aluminum foil and its mass. The values plotted
in this graph were used to calculate the thickness of the aluminum foil via an alternative method.
Additionally, the graph had a correlation value of 1.00. This means that area and mass have a
strong, direct relationship. According to pure calculations based upon the data alone, the thickness
of the aluminum foil was 0.0016 cm. This is identical to the value of thickness provided by the

while others believe that having a tattoomakes you uneducated and a delinquent. Whatever the
case is tattoos have a bad reputation in America. However people with tattoos should be treated
with the same respect and should be able to have the same opportunities as their peers. Having
tattoos gives you less options for work and other career aspirations. Many employers will not hire
people with body art, in fact a study showed that 58 percent of employers said that they would be
less likely to hire an employee with with a body modification(Sawyer [page 62]). An individual
with tattoos can have the same qualifications as someone without however when given a picture
of a potential employee with and without tattoos, the person with tattoos was constantly ranked
lower ( Ink blots ). Even if someone with tattoos does get hired they may be asked to cover them
up by wearing long sleeves and/or pants. This happened to policeman Michael Riggs, who had
tattoos from his time serving in the US army. He was required to wear a long sleeves shirt and
long pants to cover up his tattoos in the heat

Feminism in Gibson s Neuromancer
Feminism in Gibson s Neuromancer
Regarded as the beginning of the cyberpunk movement, William Gibson s classic novel
Neuromancer, confronts the pronounced societal issues of feminism of the time. By distorting the
female traits of his characters, Gibson illustrates that gender equality is only achieved when the
female persona is able to transform away from both the desired and rejected feminist attributes
imposed by societies fixed gender roles.
Although the Cyberpunks are almost always male, Gibson s portrayal of the female character,
Molly, is quite rare and illustrates the perceptions of women during the time. Quite opposite to the
soft and gentle woman Case marries and settles down with, Molly is depicted as a hard ... Show

It returned, but he still couldn t read the features (Gibson 18). In the final scenes, Neuromancer
comments on Case s visual failure by saying he never saw Molly again (Gibson 271).This final
commentary is critical because it reveals that though intimate with Molly, Case is only able to
see the outline of her existence, but never expose her actual being hidden behind her lenses.
However, it is during the simstim scenes, that Case s ocular frustration becomes truly visible. In
one scene Molly was moving through a crowded street, past stalls vending discount software...
For a few frightened seconds he fought helplessly to control her body (Gibson 56). Though Case
is able to see through Molly s eyes he is still unable to control her, rather she controls him by
exposing his vulnerability as a result of only allowing only her view not what he chooses. This
represents that though forced to become the embodiment of a male, Molly is able to utilize her
female strengths to maintain control though physically sacrificed to the opposing sex. Later, Case
comments on her control by saying, he began to find the passivity of the situation irritating (Gibson
56). Cases mirrors Rivera s feeling of being threatened when in simstim scene because though
experiencing through Molly, Case is unable to suppress her mind or control her body, taking away
his masculine empowerment. In both cases, Gibson illustrates that it through the

Plato s Phaedo For The Immortality Of The Soul
Plato s final argument in Phaedo for the immortality of the soul is one of the most interesting
topics of all time. The argument of whether the soul exists has been debated for years and even
today. It goes hand to hand with the application of the theory of forms to the question of the soul s
immortality, as Plato constantly reminds us, the theory of forms is the most certain of all his
theories. The Phaedo is Plato s attempt to convince us of the immortality of the soulby using several
main arguments. These include the argument of forms and the law of opposites. In the final
passage of the Phaedo, Plato provides his final proof, although it may be his last attempt to give his
reasoning, it is not very convincing. Plato has some good points and reasoning to believe in the
immortality of the soul, but his arguments often seem to make large assumptions without any
concrete evidence. Is the argument valid? In this essay I will attempt to expose some flaws in Plato
s argument while showing how the conclusion can still be convincing for some.
According to Plato talking through Socrates, whenever a soul occupies a body, it always brings
life with it. This means that the soul is connected with life, and so cannot admit its opposite which
is death. If it does not admit the form of evenness and is uneven, according to Socrates, then it
follows that the soul, which does not admit of death, cannot die. It must either withdraw or
disappear at the approach of death. If the soul is

Tim Lincecum Case Study
Former Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum wants to come back to baseball, and the Cincinnati
Reds should pay attention. Lincecum did not pitch at all in 2017 and had a 9.16 ERA in 38.1

retirement. He descended into cryptid like status (https://nypost.com/2017/09/26/no one seems to

My Favorite Sports In The Rocky Movie
For the people who know me know that I that I am a diehard baseball fan, basketball fan, and
football fan. However, one of my favorite sports to watch is boxing. I started to enjoy the sport of
boxing after I saw the first Rocky movie. The Rocky movie was my first introduction to the sport
of boxing. Even though Rocky is the fictional character he is one of the most iconic boxingfigures in
the sport. Sure, there are boxing legends like Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather, and
Oscar de la Hoya. But for some reason, Rocky Balboa is the reason that I am a fan of the sport of
boxing. As much I loved to talk about the Rocky movies or the other boxing legends that I
mention above fights this is not what this paper is about. This paper is about the sport of boxing at
the international level. In this paper, I will be going over boxing at the history, rules/regulations,
and how it impacts society.
There are five organizations that are involved with international boxing and they are the World
Boxing Association (WBA), International Federation of Boxing (IFB), the World Boxing
Organization (WBO), International Boxing Organization (IBO), and the World Boxing Council
(WBC). All of these organizations promote fighters here in the United States and overseas.
However, since there are a lot of international boxing organizations and a lot of them have a similar
history, rules, and regulations. Which has led me to decide that I am just going to go over one of
these organizations in

The Airlines And The Airline Industry
The airline industry has been around for years, it has suffered its ups and downs due to attacks
such as the one that occurred in September 11, and even most recent as the Paris attack that
occurred this past year. Major Airlines have suffered a decline in their profitability which has
forced many airlines to file for bankruptcy. However, when bad times hit an industry some
companies are forced to quit, while others are forced to change their strategy and continue moving
forward.
In the airline industry, we have two major industries classified as the traditional airlines and the
budget airlines. Traditional airlines have vertically integrated services and purchase their aircrafts
directly from their manufacturer. On the other hand, budget airlines lease their aircrafts in order to
source their fleet and provide cheaper flights. These cheap flights are supported by the subsidiaries
in the secondary airports they flight in and out of.
Secondary airports are a great way for budget airlines to provide a faster turnaround due to the
fewer flights that go in and out of these secondary airports. With budget Airlines there is also no in
flight service, the low cost the customer pays includes nothing but the flight itself. There is limited
aircrew, which is responsible for cleaning the aircrafts and tickets are strictly sold online. Their
advertising money is spent mostly in advertising heavily on popular social media sites.
Whether a customer decides to flight on a budget airline

Descriptive Writing A Beautiful Girl
Beautiful Girl Ding dong! The bell rang a couple of times. I got up from bed. After the third
time, I went downstairs and peeked through the small hole on the door. There was a man in a
gray suit and a package resting on the ground. I opened the door and felt that I had a wild look.
He did not even look up and he handed me the clipboard. He muttered about being late to his next
route. I took the package from him and he finally looked up at me. When he saw me, he stared at
me for quite a while. It was very awkward. I handed him the clipboard and he continued to stare
at me. It was getting very creepy. I closed the door and went to my room. I looked through the
bedroom to find him walking down the narrow path lined with flowers. He greeted a person
wearing a fedora and a long tan coat. I caught the person s face when he looked up at the window.
My heart missed a beat as I thought about him seeing me. I thought he could see, but realized that
he could not. My heart was beating faster than before. The mysterious person went to the left and
the deliveryman went to the right. I closed the blinds and opened the package. I was excited
when I saw the teal notebook that I have been trying to look for. It is teal and made out of leather.
It is an expensive notebook. My friend had one and she noticed how much I loved journaling. She
showed me where to buy it, but they decided to sell it online only. I had the frustrations trying to
find the notebook. I finally got the notebook. I

The WTO Secretariat report, along with a policy statement by the Government of Bangladesh,
will serve as a basis for the trade policy review of Bangladesh that will take place on 2 and 4 May
2000 in the Trade Policy Review Body of the WTO. The report also notes that in the face of
severe political difficulties and civil unrest, the government of Bangladesh seems to have lost its
impetus for structural reforms. Moreover, devastating floods, combined with infrastructural
failings such as power shortages, inadequate port facilities and insufficient energy supplies, led to
a sharp drop in export growth from 17.1% in 1997/98 to 2.9% in 1998/99. The report says that
textiles, and particularly clothing, have dominated Bangladesh s exports, with their combined share
growing from 70.4% in 1992 to 83.5% in 1998. These exports have been a principal source of
Bangladesh s economic growth in the 1990s. The exports are destined mostly for the U.S. and
European Union markets, to which Bangladesh has privileged access. The report notes that such
heavy dependence on a limited number of products makes the Bangladesh economy vulnerable to
increased competition from other Asian countries that produce labour intensive garments, as these
countries recover from the recent economic crisis with substantially depreciated currencies.
Moreover, the phasing out of preferential access to these

Causes And Consequences Of Untreated Mental Illness
In a given year, one out of every four American adults will suffer from a mental illness.
Therefore, it would be logical to hypothesize that you or someone you love may be affected by
mental illness at some point in your or his or her lifetime. A meta synthesis of 144 quantitative and
qualitative studies consisting of 90,189 participants highlighted that 52% 74% of Americans and
Europeans with mental disorders do not receive treatment. This is problematic for many reasons,
as untreated mental illness has devastating and even deadly consequences. A 2014 study
conducted by the RAND Cooperation found that approximately 90% of subjects with mental
disordered reported being stigmatized and discriminated against in the past year. A 2014 World
Health Organization study relived that every 40 second someone commits suicide, which amounts
to over a staggering 800,000 suicides every year. Now, take into consideration the families,
friends, and loved one s who suffer the devastating loss of their loved ones whose death could
have certainly been prevented. The harsh reality is mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, husbands and
wives take their life every single day. My research question is why are the mentally ill stigmatized?
Does gender affect attitudes towards mental illness? I am studying the effect gender has on views
towards mental illness. My dependent variable is attitudes towards mental illness and my
independent variable is gender. My supporting independent variables

Theda Bara, Mortica Addams
Throughout modern history there have been certain characters that personify the very essence
of Goth, for instance Theda Bara [1885 1995], Mortica Addams in the 1960s TV series The
Addams Family, Italian heiress Marchesa Luisa Casati [1881 1957], to more recent iconic Goths
like Helena Bonham Carter and maverick dresser Daphne McGuinness, which has helped inspire
individuals and the movement, to create their own persona and sense of the gothic style. The
Goth subculture can be broadly divided into various subsets which have there own unique
characteristics for instance Cyber Goth, Gothic Lolita and Fetish Goth. In the early days of the
movement in the 1980s and 1990s, the Goth subculture fashion drawing heavily on the early
fetish, bondage and S M style for example straps, buckles, zips, waistcoats, frock coats, corsets,
gowns, thigh high stiletto boots and hairstyles like backcombing and the Deathawk, take some
influence from the punk movement. Ian Astbury 1997 describes the early fashion characteristics
for the beginning of the Goth culture in the eighties and nineties; For the male ... black spiky hair
and a black leather jacket. For the women ... black fishnets, black leather thigh high boots ... dark
makeup and the big black spiky hair (History of Goth:2016). The traditional materials for the
Gothic style includes lace, brocade, leather, velvet, however modern Goths within the various
subsets have created new materials such as rubber and PVC to create their own version of the
aesthetics. It could be said Gothic punks like Siouxsie Sioux, Joy Dividson, Peter Murphy, Sid
Vicious and bands from the eighties and nineties... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. IT Management Capability Essay 2.2Effect of IT management s capability on non financial firm performance IT management capabilities are defined as the ability of an organization s IT and management staff to administer IT resources and transform them for the creation of business value (Peppard J. , 2007). IT function is typically portrayed as an island, separated from the rest of the organization. IT is usually seen as a resource that can be managed from within a box on the organizations map. Yet research clearly indicates otherwise; Peppard (2007) is quoted as saying, IT cannot be managed as an island but must be fully integrated with the mainland . In his paper examining the Conundrum of IT management, he uses this analogy to show how firms neglect the IT function ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bhatt Grover, 2005; using the well known edicts of RBV empirically assess distinct IT capabilities and their relationship with competitive advantage of a firm. Their study attempts to distinguish between a number of IT capabilities. They uncover that managerial skills is among the valuable (i.e., have an effect on performance), heterogeneously distributed across companies (i.e., are not the same across companies), and imperfectly mobile (i.e., are difficult to acquire in resource markets or develop internally) resources in firms. A similar position is affirmed by (Dehning Stratopoulos, 2003) that uses secondary data from Computerworld to assess IT capabilities and competitive advantage. The study assesses managerial skills and technical skills and discovers that managerial skills are positively related to the duration of competitive advantage. Evidence deduced from prior literature show that I.T management is manifested by the collection of IT processes in the areas of planning, investment decision making, coordination, and control. (Peppard J. , 2007) Intimates that IT management capability is generally reflected by the level at which such processes are structured in formal and informal practices. This study will review literature each of the process of IT management identified, in an attempt to draw a better understanding: 2.2.1 IT Planning (Kim G. , Shin, Kim, Ho, 2011) Highlight the fact that that IT planning focuses on ... • 3. Jonathon Swift Misogyny Jonathon Swift steps into risky territory as he addresses misogyny in the invasive, satirical way he does in his (year) controversial poem The Lady s Dressing Room. Perhaps not surprisingly, Lady Montagu takes advantage of her literary pull and writes a satirical response, clearly offended by the misogynist message she assumed the poem to have. While Swift s poem gives a significant amount of evidence to justify Montagu s retort, there is perhaps a deeper amount of evidence that suggests she missed Swift s point. Each poem has a satiric closure at its end, but Swift s choice of words lean towards a position of commentary on misogynyrather than a position supporting it. In contrast, the last line of Montagu s poem pins Swift down as a staunch... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After their beauty has been brought to life from the dung in which they were planted in, women become gaudy tulips (). Understandably, one can see how Lady Montagu may have danced over this image with the stench lingering from the final word she read. Had she taken the time to analyze this phrase, she may not have been so harsh in her action. To begin, one must start with gaudy, simply because of its modern connotation to mean something is showy, or tasteless in its ornateness. In the context of this poem, this word did not have such a connotation, so as it appears to mean, simply, luxurious (Oxford English Dictionary). Keeping this is in mind as one looks at the context of the tulip at this time, it is clear that this simple comparison to a flower actually as much more meaning to it than at first glance. Just before swift s time the tulip caused a financial crisis because of how desired it was (Donatini). This being said, the tulip had not only visual beauty but historical extravagance. Knowing the background on both gaudy and tulip, it is easy to see that Lady Montagu failed to see the rich beauty Swift truly was emphasizing that is found within women, a beauty that is truly dependent upon, not despite, their dung like qualities. [This imagery paints an incredible picture of the idea that beauty can, and traditionally does, come from forth from unexpected places. This is true especially when one takes the image further in terms of the seed of the tulip having contained within it all the beauty it will possess when it becomes a full flower, thus needing the rich dung to encourage that beauty to blossom.] It is evident that Montagu missed all this image has to offer a woman judging by the harsh, though clever, final line in her poetic ... Between July and December of 1981, another population was identified as suffering from the illness that had no name. • 5. A Scrutiny of Othello s Character as a Tragic Hero In Othello, the Moor of Venice, the titular character, Othello, is the protagonist and subject to scrutiny as to whether or not he is a tragic hero in the conventional Aristotelian definition of the term. Aristotle believed a tragedy served to exercise the mature citizen s moral sensibilities (Ferrari, 1999, p. 181). There are several different components of Aristotle s definition of a tragic hero, which essentially serve as a set of criteria to determine whether or not Othellotruly is a tragic hero and, by extension, determine whether or not this play is a conventional Aristotelian tragedy. A thorough analysis of Aristotle s definition of the term when applied to Othello, however, reveals that his characterization is not congruent with that of a tragic hero since he displays a number of characteristics that are ill befitting of such figures which means this play is not an Aristotelian tragedy. One of the primary facets of the definition of a tragic hero is that he or she is not an ordinary person, but rather an extraordinary one due, in no small part, to his or her noble birth. As such, tragedies depict good men (Reeves, 1952, p.172). Othello, however, does not hail from such a noble lineage, which the reader knows due to the fact that he is a Moor employed in the Venetian military. Although Othello is a fairly high ranking general in this army, he does not descend from a noble birth and earned his ranking from sheer hard work and through many trials in service. The ... The Character of Stanley in A Streetcar Named Desire Animals are, by nature, passionately instinctive; that is, when reacting to a situation, they do so forcefully and spontaneously. Therefore, we can think of passionate instinct as an intense, innate reaction to a particular situation. Animals also lack what we call inhibition the suppression of a natural drive, instinct or feeling. For instance, when a skunk senses danger, it will not restrain its natural, defensive reaction and will not hesitate to spray a foul smelling substance in the direction of the danger for self protection. We can think of him as being animalistic because his reaction to various situations for instance, his reaction when Stella breaks up his card game (I, iii, 57) is often intense, violent, and very instinctive in nature. However, animals also become threatened and often react in a savage, violent way in order to defend themselves. When Stanley learns of his wife s loss of Belle Reve, he reacts in the same way that an animal would when a threat to its family is sensed; Stanley reacts with growing hostility and violent, uncivilized behavior. He instantly believes that Blanche, his sister in law, has swindled his wife, Stella. Since he thinks that Stella has been swindled, he feels that he, too, has been swindled. When Stella tells him not to question Blanche about Belle Reve, we can clearly see that he has become hostile towards Blanche: So that s the deal, huh? • 9. Untranslatability from English to Romanian INTRODUCTION The need for translation has always existed since the appearance of the human being on the Earth. Translation is not only a way to explain what a language said to another, it is also a way to present one culture to another. As to the notion of culture, Edward Burnett Tylor considers that , culture...is that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, morals, law, customs and many other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society . This definition covers almost every aspect of human s life and lays at the basis of most modern anthropological conceptions of culture. Putting it simply, culture is rooted in history, it represents all the main peculiarities of a certain group of people, it is defined by language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts. In the process of translationculture cannot be ignored. Each culture is unique, as a result, its language is also unique, so when translating from one language into another we come across unique problems. It is commonly considered that understanding the culture of a country is only by understanding what people of that country are saying or writing. However, in practice, the fact that language is rooted in culture is often forgotten. The bigger the cultural difference, the more difficult is to translate the culture bound concepts. There have been many laws, tolls, and fines implemented over the past few decades to try and fix the problem. Yet, congestion still exists. Congestion occurs when there is overcrowding on roadways that s causes traffic jams. There are several reasons for the severity of this issue. Congestion causes a lot of delays in the city. It is unlikely that people are on time for anything, even if they planned ahead. With traffic in the city the way it is, you can t blame them. The indirect effect of congestion is traffic pollution. This pollution increases health risks by introducing people to harmful toxins released by cars, specifically in the asthmatic population. Hence, one can see the problems associated with traffic congestion and pollution. There are several ways to counteract the problem of traffic congestion and pollution. Firstly, the most practical solution to New York Citys congestion problem is to decrease the number of cars on the road. One plausible way would be to promote and offer alternative methods of transportation such as buses, subways, and taxis. If people used more public transportation there would be fewer cars on the road, less congestion, and less traffic pollution. Another alternative would be to increase toll prices. By increasing tolls on bridges and tunnels, people would be much less inclined to drive to the city and as a result there would be less traffic congestion and pollution. Gridlock is a major cause of traffic problems in Manhattan. If we were to implement more severe fines for blocking intersections, people would not try to beat the light, in effect decreasing overall congestion. A third approach to try and resolve this issue would be to change some one way streets to two way streets. Doing this would allow easier access to destinations and would eliminate indirect route taking. As a result, overall pollution would decrease. Supernatural in Shakespeare s Macbeth The Witches and Lady Macbeth Cause the Downfall of Macbeth William Shakespeare s tragic play, Macbeth shows the gradual descent of the character Macbeth into the moral abyss. Macbeth s yearning for power draws him to the murder of King Duncan, Banquo, and Macduff s family. It is difficult to understand how a courageous, gentle man such as Macbeth, could be involved in such villainous activities. In truth, it was the witches and Lady Macbeth that transformed into evil Macbeth s natural desire for control and authority. The play, Macbeth clearly illustrates that wicked intention must, in the end, produce wicked action. Shakespeare focuses on Macbeth s courage early in the play. For example, Duncan and the... That shalt be King hereafter (I.iii.52 57) When Macbeth hears this prophecy, many questions instantly run through his head. He begins to wonder, What are they talking about and how will I become king? Macbeth does not entirely trust the witches, for he does identify them with evil. The foretelling of the witches sparks the plot of the murder. The sparks burst into flame when Lady Macbeth hears of the prophecy. Lady Macbeth is canny and masterful as she propels Macbeth to kill Duncan. She binds Macbeth s attention to the throne of Scotland, but never to the severity of the crime. Lady Macbeth is clever when she constantly urges Macbeth to forget about his torments and the brutal death he has caused. Before the actual murder, Macbeth is shrouded with fear; Banquo can see it on his face. Although Banquo does not know about the planned murder, he asks, Good sir, why do you start, and seem to fear/ Things that do sound so fair (I.iii.58 59)? Macbeth ponders what would happen if the murder scheme fails, and discusses this possibility with his wife. As Macbeth struggles with fear in the presence of Lady Macbeth, she constantly reassures him that there is nothing to fear and that the murder will be for the better. As you read some of them, you can feel emotion or just read a boring story about how something changed their life, but these three stories are interesting because they develop horror. These short stories use different elements to create horror. The Tell Tale Heart, A Rose for Emily, , and The Lottery develop horror/gothic elements. First, The Tell Tale Heart develops horror by having an unreliable crazy narrator. For example, we see his psyche in the introduction of Edgar Allan Poe s short story. I heard all things in the heaven and earth. I heard many things in hell. How, then, am I mad? (par. 1). This gives the audience the insight into the narrator s mind; therefore, the narrator has some sort of schizophrenia that causes him to not hear, think, or behave correctly. As the narrator talks to the reader he thinks he is not crazy and that his thoughts are normal. Next, the short story is written in first person point of view which makes the story way more interesting and you see how mad this character is. I grew furious as I gazed upon it (par. 9). In first person point of view the reader can almost imagine the whole situation as the narrator is in the old man s room looking at his vulture eye. The American Heart Association suggests that pre screening athletes can improve the detection of cardiac abnormalities. 5 Athletic Trainers are increasingly required to be the health care professionals administering pre participation physicals. In Dee Brown s telling, he describes the relationships of the Native Americans, the settlers of the states, and the United States government in a factual, yet emotional description. In Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, his stance is explained, as well as the background for his story. Accounts of life have been retold thousands of times from the perspective of traders, ranchers, wagon trains and gold seekers; the story that oftentimes fails to be told, is that of the American Indian. Brown s outline of the position of diverse western tribes in 1860 does not include a description of their fates thirty years later. However, by focusing not on the steady growth of white civilization westward from the Atlantic Coast but on the equally steady decline of Indian civilization, Brown signals his intent to make his history of the West tragic rather than celebratory. This focus on the fate of the Indians of the West was very unusual; Brown s book was one of the first histories of the West to give its readers the American Indians perspective on how the West was won or, as he would probably say, how the West was lost. Readers learn of General Carleton s ferocity against the Indians and his great hunger for tribal land and the minerals found on it. This, together with the settling of ... The Phaedo is Plato s attempt to convince us of the immortality of the soulby using several main arguments. These include the argument of forms and the law of opposites. In the final passage of the Phaedo, Plato provides his final proof, although it may be his last attempt to give his reasoning, it is not very convincing. Plato has some good points and reasoning to believe in the immortality of the soul, but his arguments often seem to make large assumptions without any concrete evidence. Is the argument valid? In this essay I will attempt to expose some flaws in Plato s argument while showing how the conclusion can still be convincing for some. According to Plato talking through Socrates, whenever a soul occupies a body, it always brings life with it. This means that the soul is connected with life, and so cannot admit its opposite which is death. If it does not admit the form of evenness and is uneven, according to Socrates, then it follows that the soul, which does not admit of death, cannot die. It must either withdraw or disappear at the approach of death. If the soul is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. The Airlines And The Airline Industry The airline industry has been around for years, it has suffered its ups and downs due to attacks such as the one that occurred in September 11, and even most recent as the Paris attack that occurred this past year. Major Airlines have suffered a decline in their profitability which has forced many airlines to file for bankruptcy. However, when bad times hit an industry some companies are forced to quit, while others are forced to change their strategy and continue moving forward. In the airline industry, we have two major industries classified as the traditional airlines and the budget airlines. Traditional airlines have vertically integrated services and purchase their aircrafts directly from their manufacturer. On the other hand, budget airlines lease their aircrafts in order to source their fleet and provide cheaper flights. These cheap flights are supported by the subsidiaries in the secondary airports they flight in and out of. Secondary airports are a great way for budget airlines to provide a faster turnaround due to the fewer flights that go in and out of these secondary airports. With budget Airlines there is also no in flight service, the low cost the customer pays includes nothing but the flight itself. There is limited aircrew, which is responsible for cleaning the aircrafts and tickets are strictly sold online. Their advertising money is spent mostly in advertising heavily on popular social media sites. Whether a customer decides to flight on a budget airline ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Descriptive Writing A Beautiful Girl Beautiful Girl Ding dong! The bell rang a couple of times. I got up from bed. After the third time, I went downstairs and peeked through the small hole on the door. There was a man in a gray suit and a package resting on the ground. I opened the door and felt that I had a wild look. He did not even look up and he handed me the clipboard. He muttered about being late to his next route. I took the package from him and he finally looked up at me. When he saw me, he stared at me for quite a while. It was very awkward. I handed him the clipboard and he continued to stare at me. It was getting very creepy. I closed the door and went to my room. I looked through the bedroom to find him walking down the narrow path lined with flowers. He greeted a person wearing a fedora and a long tan coat. I caught the person s face when he looked up at the window. My heart missed a beat as I thought about him seeing me. I thought he could see, but realized that he could not. My heart was beating faster than before. The mysterious person went to the left and the deliveryman went to the right. I closed the blinds and opened the package. I was excited when I saw the teal notebook that I have been trying to look for. It is teal and made out of leather. It is an expensive notebook. My friend had one and she noticed how much I loved journaling. She showed me where to buy it, but they decided to sell it online only. I had the frustrations trying to find the notebook. I finally got the notebook. I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The WTO Secretariat report, along with a policy statement by the Government of Bangladesh, will serve as a basis for the trade policy review of Bangladesh that will take place on 2 and 4 May 2000 in the Trade Policy Review Body of the WTO. The report also notes that in the face of severe political difficulties and civil unrest, the government of Bangladesh seems to have lost its impetus for structural reforms. Moreover, devastating floods, combined with infrastructural failings such as power shortages, inadequate port facilities and insufficient energy supplies, led to a sharp drop in export growth from 17.1% in 1997/98 to 2.9% in 1998/99. The report says that textiles, and particularly clothing, have dominated Bangladesh s exports, with their combined share growing from 70.4% in 1992 to 83.5% in 1998. These exports have been a principal source of Bangladesh s economic growth in the 1990s. The exports are destined mostly for the U.S. and European Union markets, to which Bangladesh has privileged access. The report notes that such heavy dependence on a limited number of products makes the Bangladesh economy vulnerable to increased competition from other Asian countries that produce labour intensive garments, as these countries recover from the recent economic crisis with substantially depreciated currencies. Moreover, the phasing out of preferential access to these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Causes And Consequences Of Untreated Mental Illness In a given year, one out of every four American adults will suffer from a mental illness. Therefore, it would be logical to hypothesize that you or someone you love may be affected by mental illness at some point in your or his or her lifetime. A meta synthesis of 144 quantitative and qualitative studies consisting of 90,189 participants highlighted that 52% 74% of Americans and Europeans with mental disorders do not receive treatment. This is problematic for many reasons, as untreated mental illness has devastating and even deadly consequences. A 2014 study conducted by the RAND Cooperation found that approximately 90% of subjects with mental disordered reported being stigmatized and discriminated against in the past year. A 2014 World Health Organization study relived that every 40 second someone commits suicide, which amounts to over a staggering 800,000 suicides every year. Now, take into consideration the families, friends, and loved one s who suffer the devastating loss of their loved ones whose death could have certainly been prevented. The harsh reality is mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, husbands and wives take their life every single day. My research question is why are the mentally ill stigmatized? Does gender affect attitudes towards mental illness? I am studying the effect gender has on views towards mental illness. Theda Bara, Mortica Addams Throughout modern history there have been certain characters that personify the very essence of Goth, for instance Theda Bara [1885 1995], Mortica Addams in the 1960s TV series The Addams Family, Italian heiress Marchesa Luisa Casati [1881 1957], to more recent iconic Goths like Helena Bonham Carter and maverick dresser Daphne McGuinness, which has helped inspire individuals and the movement, to create their own persona and sense of the gothic style. The Goth subculture can be broadly divided into various subsets which have there own unique characteristics for instance Cyber Goth, Gothic Lolita and Fetish Goth. In the early days of the movement in the 1980s and 1990s, the Goth subculture fashion drawing heavily on the early fetish, bondage and S M style for example straps, buckles, zips, waistcoats, frock coats, corsets, gowns, thigh high stiletto boots and hairstyles like backcombing and the Deathawk, take some influence from the punk movement. For the women ... black fishnets, black leather thigh high boots ... dark makeup and the big black spiky hair (History of Goth:2016). The traditional materials for the Gothic style includes lace, brocade, leather, velvet, however modern Goths within the various subsets have created new materials such as rubber and PVC to create their own version of the aesthetics.
