What can be the consequences of a poor digital footprint?
• A 2017 survey found that up to 70% of employers now screen applicants’
social media profiles.
• Using racial slurs or inappropriate language that violates terms of service
may result in permanent bans from social media.
• Because the US generally lacks privacy laws/regulation for use of consumer
data, there is no way of knowing who can see your “private” content.
• Remember, even content that has been deleted from the internet can still
be searched, archived, and accessed; once something is out there, it is out
there for good.

Together, let’s develop a mission statement for what this group wants to
accomplish this year.
A good mission statement answers the following questions:
What do we want to do?
How are we going to do it?
What do we believe about what we are doing?

Being an Online Advocate
•Take time in smaller groups (3-4) to research a societal issue
that is important to you
•Find at least 3 non-profit organization that deal with your
issue directly and answer the following questions:
• Do those organizations have social media presences?
• If so, what kind of content do they post?

Take steps today towards producing a PSA of your own (either a :45
video, :60 radio spot, or series of infographics) about your group’s
topic.
The PSA might try to draw awareness to an issue, or prescribe a
solution for people to incorporate into their daily lives.
Design/produce a PSA that you would feel confident and
comfortable posting on your own social media. It should not feel
formal and academic, but personal and honest. It should speak
both to your issue and to your audience.

End in Mind... • We will understand and discuss digital footprints and the positive and negative consequences of our online reputations. • We will evaluate online/technology-enabled dating behaviors and determine their appropriateness. • We will create a mission statement that reflects our goals as leaders in our community and expresses a desire for positive and implementable change. • We will collaborate to research a social/technology- driven issue of importance to us and begin production on PSA content for our peers.

What’s included in our digital footprints? • What we like and share • Who we talk to • What we search for online • Which websites we browse • Our hobbies and school activities • Awards we receive • What content we watch

My Digital Footprint What can be the consequences of a poor digital footprint? • A 2017 survey found that up to 70% of employers now screen applicants’ social media profiles. • Using racial slurs or inappropriate language that violates terms of service may result in permanent bans from social media. • Because the US generally lacks privacy laws/regulation for use of consumer data, there is no way of knowing who can see your “private” content. • Remember, even content that has been deleted from the internet can still be searched, archived, and accessed; once something is out there, it is out there for good. https://www.ft.com/content/87cfe2ee-bfeb-11e8-84cd-9e601db069b8

Awards, school activities, creative projects etc. build a good digital reputation! • Think before you post.   • 13. Digital Citizenship You are here because you want to be a technology leader at your school. Together, let’s develop a mission statement for what this group wants to accomplish this year. A good mission statement answers the following questions: What do we want to do? How are we going to do it? What do we believe about what we are doing?

  • 16. Digital Citizenship: Being an Online Advocate Take steps today towards producing a PSA of your own (either a :45 video, :60 radio spot, or series of infographics) about your group’s topic. The PSA might try to draw awareness to an issue, or prescribe a solution for people to incorporate into their daily lives. Design/produce a PSA that you would feel confident and comfortable posting on your own social media. It should not feel formal and academic, but personal and honest. It should speak both to your issue and to your audience.
