Social networking is on the rise and study found that 22% of teenagers log onto their favorite social media sites more than 10 times a day. To connect effectively with your children or younger siblings, you have to learn more about the different social media platforms that they are on, understand how each platform work, communicate in their lingo and be seen as a ‘cool’ parent.
The increased level of social engagement also saw the rise of cyberbullying, “Facebook depression” (a new phenomenon where “de-friending” and online bullying lead to symptoms of depression) and exposure to inappropriate content for our young ones.

“To be integrated is to feel secure, to feel connected.” The views and experi...AJHSSR Journal
ABSTRACT: Although a significant amount of literature exists on Morocco's migration policies and their
successes and failures since their implementation in 2014, there is limited research on the integration of subSaharan African children into schools. This paperis part of a Ph.D. research project that aims to fill this gap. It
reports the main findings of a study conducted with migrant children enrolled in two public schools in Rabat,
Morocco, exploring how integration is defined by the children themselves and identifying the obstacles that they
have encountered thus far. The following paper uses an inductive approach and primarily focuses on the
relationships of children with their teachers and peers as a key aspect of integration for students with a migration
background. The study has led to several crucial findings. It emphasizes the significance of speaking Colloquial
Moroccan Arabic (Darija) and being part of a community for effective integration. Moreover, it reveals that the
use of Modern Standard Arabic as the language of instruction in schools is a source of frustration for students,
indicating the need for language policy reform. The study underlines the importanceof considering the
children‟s agency when being integrated into mainstream public schools.

Improving Workplace Safety Performance in Malaysian SMEs: The Role of Safety ...AJHSSR Journal
ABSTRACT: In the Malaysian context, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) experience a significant
burden of workplace accidents. A consensus among scholars attributes a substantial portion of these incidents to
human factors, particularly unsafe behaviors. This study, conducted in Malaysia's northern region, specifically
targeted Safety and Health/Human Resource professionals within the manufacturing sector of SMEs. We
gathered a robust dataset comprising 107 responses through a meticulously designed self-administered
questionnaire. Employing advanced partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) techniques
with SmartPLS 3.2.9, we rigorously analyzed the data to scrutinize the intricate relationship between safety
behavior and safety performance. The research findings unequivocally underscore the palpable and
consequential impact of safety behavior variables, namely safety compliance and safety participation, on
improving safety performance indicators such as accidents, injuries, and property damages. These results
strongly validate research hypotheses. Consequently, this study highlights the pivotal significance of cultivating
safety behavior among employees, particularly in resource-constrained SME settings, as an essential step toward
enhancing workplace safety performance.

The Power of

6. The World is a
DIFFERENT
Place today …
in some ways
“Our youth now love luxury. They have
bad manners, contempt for authority;
they show disrespect for their elders
and love chatter in place of exercise;
they no longer rise when elders enter
the room; they contradict their parents,
chatter before company; gobble up
their food and tyrannize their teachers.”
~ 410 BC … attributed to Socrates by Plato
7. CONNECTED
CULTURE
• Cell phones and smart phones are the primary
devices used to go online
• Online life is increasingly social
• 7 of the top 10 websites for young people allow
users to post and share information and content
(Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram,
Hotmail, Minecraft)
8. In their
OWN words
… teens tell us
• Need for independence
• Know that they are going to make
mistakes
• Keep us safe, but let us go
• Maybe adults can’t stop it, but instead
try teaching us the skills and strategies
to deal with it and develop ways to
cope.
• Help us to develop our self confidence
and self esteem so that these
behaviours will not impact us so much.
9. WHY DO YOU NEED

12. Why it’s Popular
• Teens are not using
Facebook as much anymore
– their parents are.
• People can “like” business
pages to get info and deals.
Social site where people can ‘friend’ other people, share information, pictures,
videos with contacts all over.
What parents need to know
• Privacy settings need to be locked to friends
only.
• Users are supposed to be 13, many are not.
• Teens are posting occasional items to keep
parents thinking they are using it.
• Not all kids want to friend their parents.
13. Why it’s Popular
• Teens like using it to share
quick tidbits about their lives
with friends.
• It's also great for keeping up
with what's going on in the
world -- breaking news,
celebrity gossip, etc.
Post brief, 140-character messages -- called "tweets“.
Follow other users' activities.
What parents need to know
• Public tweets are the norm for teens. Talk to
your kids about what they post and how a
post can spread far and fast.
• Updates appear immediately. Even though
you can remove tweets, your followers can
still read what you wrote until it's gone.
• Promotional tool for celebs.
• Marketing tool for business.
14. Why it’s Popular
• Unites the appealing
features of social media
sites: sharing, seeing and
commenting on photos.
• You can apply fun filters and
effects to your photos,
making them look high
quality and artistic.
Users snap, edit and share photos and 15-second videos -- either publicly or with a
network of followers.
What parents need to know
• Kids are looking for "Likes“ on their pics as
a measure of the "success" of their photos,
their self-worth.
• Public photos are the default.
• Mature content can occur. Terms of service
specify age 13 and up, not to post partially
nude or sexually suggestive photos -- but
doesn't address violence, swear words, or
drugs.
15. Why it’s Popular
• It was created to be a way
for teens to share fun, light
moments without the risk of
having them go public.
• Most use it for that - sending
goofy or embarrassing pics
to one another.
A messaging app that lets users put a time limit on the pictures and videos they send
before they disappear.
.
What parents need to know
• Many schools have yet to block it, which is one
reason why teens like it.
• It's a myth that Snapchats go away forever.
Data is data: Whenever an image is sent, it
never truly goes away. (ie. The person on the
receiving end can take a screenshot of the
image before it disappears.) Snapchats CAN BE
recovered by their url.
• It can make sexting seem OK. It seems risk-free
and that tends to encourage users to share
pictures containing inappropriate content.
16. Why it’s Popular
• They like sharing photos,
videos, musings and things
they find funny with their
friends.
• Tumblelogs with funny
memes and pics often go
viral online, kids would all
love to be the next ‘Grumpy
Cat’ video
Cross between a Blog and Twitter. A streaming scrapbook of text, photos and/or
videos and audio clips.
Users create and follow short blogs, or "tumblelogs," that can be seen by anyone
online (if made public).
What parents need to know
• Porn is easy to find -This online hangout is hip
and creative but sometimes raunchy.
• Privacy can be guarded, but through an
awkward workaround. The first profile a
member creates is public and viewable by
anyone on the Internet, for full privacy you
create a second profile, which you password
protect.
17. Why it’s Popular
• There are some friendly and
supportive interactions on
Ask.fm -- Q&As about
favorite foods or crushes, but
there are many mean
comments and some creepy
sexual posts. This iffy
content is part of the site's
appeal for teens.
Allows users to ask questions and answer ones posted by other users.
It has an anonymous option.
What parents need to know
• Bullying is a major issue. Anonymity can
encourage mean behavior.
• Anonymous answers are optional. Users can
decide whether to allow anonymous posts
and can remove their answers from streaming
to decrease their profile's visibility. Better to
turn off anonymous answers and keeping
themselves out of the live stream.
• Q&As can appear on Facebook. Syncing with
Facebook means that a much wider audience
can see those Q&As.
18. Why it’s Popular
• More ‘fun’ options than
normal texting
• No Message and character
limits and can be free
alternative for paid
messaging.
Easy messaging apps that appeal more than normal SMS Messaging (texting)
What parents need to know
• Easy to ‘copy all’’ on KIK which is how they
market to more people.
• Encourage you to invite all friends from
phone’s contacts.
• What’s App is more messaging than ‘fun’
• Some Stranger Danger in that you can enter
contests by submitting pics on KIK
• KIK also uses real names, so pick a
username that is not your full name.
19. Why it’s Popular
• Videos run from stop-motion
clips to six-second skits
• Teens usually use Vine to
create and share silly videos
of themselves and/or their
friends and family.
Lets users post and watch looping six-second video clips.
Developed a unique community of people who post videos that are often creative
and funny -- and sometimes thought-provoking.
What parents need to know
• It's full of inappropriate videos. There's a lot
of funny, clever art on Vine, but much of it
isn't appropriate for kids.
• There are significant privacy concerns. Video
are public unless you adjust privacy settings
to protect your posts; only followers will see
them, and you have to approve new
followers.
• Parents can be star performers (without
knowing). Talk about who they share in
videos online too.
20. Why it’s Popular
• Teens keep up with the latest
styles by browsing Wanelo's
"trending" feed, which shows
the most popular items.
• Can cultivate their own style
through the "My Feed"
function, which displays
content from the users,
brands and stores they follow.
WAnt, NEed, LOve - combines shopping, fashion blogging and social networking all
in one.
What parents need to know
• If you like it, you can buy it.
• Brand Names are prominent and you must
start off by following at least 3 stores and
people.
• A lot of mature clothing is shown on here.
21. Why it’s Popular
• As an "all in one" offering it
seems to be capturing teens'
attention the most.
• They like the fact that they
have more control over
ownership and copyright,
since Pheed allows its users
to watermark their original
content.
A hybrid of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube -- except that you can require
others to pay a premium to access your personal channel.
What parents need to know
• Users can make money by charging others a
subscription fee to access their content, from
$1.99 to $34.99 per view or per month. A %
of all proceeds goes to Pheed.
• Privacy updates being updated – but kids
should be aware their posts are public by
default and searchable online right now.
22. Why it’s Popular
• Live Video Chat using a
webcam.
• Instant messaging
A free (or paid) voice over the internet service that allows for instant messaging, voice
calls, and video calls as well as screen sharing. You can also send and receive files.
What parents need to know
• Profiles are searchable and people can send
contact requests.
• Real names not required.
• Virus and malware can be sent via files.
• Pedophiles love Skype
23. Why it’s Popular
• Creative tool
• Fun to play
• Kids like to play this with
friends and build together.
Minecraft is a video-game that consists of digital blocks that the player can use to create
whole new worlds. Available on a variety of platforms (iPad, iPhone, Mac, PC & Xbox 360).
What parents need to know
• Users can actively create the setting, and the world
they ‘play in’ and play with others.
• Your child can connect to a server and play with
other people (of all ages) playing Minecraft – even
with strangers.
• The game operates in four modes: Survival,
Creative, Adventure and Hardcore. For young
children, you NEED TO CHANGE the setting to
Creative!
• Some modes have lots of killing, zombies, monsters
and more graphic ‘play’
24. Now that you know
about these SOCIAL
MEDIA CHANNELS …
What can you do?
• Stay Informed and Know what to
discuss with your kids about the
accounts and apps they may have.
• Be honest as to why you are worried
• Build a way your child can feel free to
use the accounts and apps that are
appropriate with rules you both have
in place.

minutes.
How easy is it to do this?
Extremely easy, If you know where to look, it's one button to
hit download and you are done.
A CBS TV PRODUCER decided to see just how easy it really is.
She took pictures of just her face at several locations around Los
Angeles. They posted them on her Twitter account, and asked a
tech expert to figure out where she was.
