The Life and Work of Confucius Philosophy Essay Confucius
The Life And Work Of Confucius Philosophy Essay
Confucius (551 479 BCE), was a thinker, political figure, educator and founder of the Ru School
of Chinese thought. Confucius was born at Shang ping, in the country of Lu. His given name was
Kong, but his disciples called him Kong fu tse, (i.e. Kong the Master, or Teacher.) His father
passed away when he was only three years old. Confucius mother Yan she raised him. During his
younger years Confucius showed a love of learning, and an expression of awe for the ancient laws
of his country.
Confucius was only nineteen years old when he married, but he divorced his wife after only four
years of marriage so that he could have more time for his study and the performance of his public
duties. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some have argued that, because of the text s inconsistencies and incompatibilities of thought, there
is much in the Analects that is non Confucian and should be discarded as a basis for understanding
the thought of Confucius. Benjamin Schwartz cautions us against such radical measures.
While textual criticism based on rigorous philological and historic analysis is crucial, and while the
later sections [of the Analects] do contain late materials, the type of textual criticism that is based
on considerations of alleged logical inconsistencies and incompatibilities of thought must be viewed
with great suspicion. . . . While none of us comes to such an enterprise without deep laid
assumptions about necessary logical relations and compatibilities, we should at least hold before
ourselves the constant injunction to mistrust all our unexamined preconceptions on these matters
when dealing with comparative thought. (The World of Thought in Ancient China, p. 61)
Confucius philosophy was predominately a moral and political one. It was founded on the belief
that heaven and earth coexist in harmony and balanced strength while maintaining a perpetual
dynamism. Human beings, he taught, are sustained by these conditions and must strive to emulate
the cosmic model.
The Doctrine of the Mean is the elaboration of the way of

Stravinsky Influence On Society
Stravinsky is undoubtedly now one of the most influential pioneers due to his musical
innovations in new music at the beginning of the 20th Century. Stravinsky was born in 1882,
into the privileged society of pre revolutionary Russia. In his early years, he was raised strictly
under the faith of the Russian Orthodox Church, which is said to have led on to have a large
impression on his compositional styles. At the tender age of 9, Stravinsky s talent in keyboard
improvisation had become apparent at this stage being influence by composers like Glinka and
Tchaikovsky. During his early 20 s, although studying law at university, he began private lessons in
composition from Rimsky Korsakov. It was during this time that Stravinsky began some of his well
known works, such as Fireworks and a symphony, in which the talented young... Show more content

Subsequent to this Stravinsky s career took another turn, into the ballet. During this time some of
his most famous ballet works produced The Firebird and Petrushka. These ballets began to
demonstrate the immense skill in Stravinsky s bold and audacious orchestral writing.
The Rite of Spring
In 1913, Stravinsky premiered his arguably most famous and influential work The Rite of Spring.
This ballet ended up to potentially be a very controversial work, pioneering new ideas in both the
music and the choreography. This was Stravinsky s third ballet for Diaghilev s company, the Ballet
Russes, who primarily performed Russian themes. The Rite of Spring acts as a turning point in
Stravinsky s career, spurring revolutionary techniques to be

1.0 Introduction
According to Stephen P. Robbins and Mary Coulter in their book titled Management, bureaucracy
can be defined as a form of organisation characterised by division of labour, a clearly defined
hierarchy, detailed rules and regulations, and impersonal relationship.
Bureaucracy usually gives a negative meaning in life. When it comes to bureaucracy, automatically
people would imagine things like red tape, filled form with too many information and too detail,
small problems become complicated because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It means, there must be no individual objectives are allowed. All people must follow the
organization objectives. In other word, staff members are free of any external responsibilities and
constraints so that they are able to attend to their duties in a fair and objective way. For example,
work is separated from residence in order to separate personal duty and objective of the
organization.
2.0.6 Lifelong Career Commitment Weber stressed that employment in the organization should be
seen as a career for officials. An official is a full time employee, and anticipate a lifelong career.
After an introduction period, the employee is given tenure, which protects the employee from
arbitrary dismissal. The organization should create a better working scheme such as clear
promotion route and good remuneration scheme. Max Weber viewed these bureaucratic elements
as solutions to problems or defects within earlier and more traditional administrative systems.
Likewise, he viewed these elements as parts of a total system, which, combined and instituted
effectively, would increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the administrative structure.
3.0 Critics toward Max Weber Theories of Bureaucracy There are various critics from public
administration philosophers toward bureaucracy theory generated by max Weber.

Taking a Look at Greek, Chinese and Indian Civilizations
Every single civilization, past or present, had different types of achievements. These achievements
such as cultural, mathematical, scientific, etc. help define how successful that civilization was.
There were always scientific and mathematical achievements of different magnitudes in every
civilization. The three civilizations that really stand out in their mathematical and scientific
achievements are the Greek, Chinese, and Indian civilizations. Ancient India began around 2600
B.C. and ended around 500 A.D. The civilization flourished around the Indus River, which is one of
the greatest rivers in Asia. They were a well organized and farming people. They had so many
natural boundaries that protected them, so they didn t have to take time to create a military, which
let them prosper and have very important achievements. Ancient Chinabegan around 2205 B.C. and
really ends around 256 B.C. Ancient China was a very large, long, and powerful empire. They
were the longest civilization and they are still around today, and still use the beliefs of the ancient
times. In China, people farmed, people were warriors, people were merchants, etc. There was
really no preferred job in Ancient China. The abundance of the variety of jobs led to the
discoveries of many different achievements. Ancient Greece began around 700 B.C. and ended
around 146 B.C. Its geography was mainly mountainous and only twenty percent of the land was
suitable for farming. The lack of farmland and isolation from

Summary OfBring Back Flogging By Jeff Jacoby
Flogging in Modern Society In Bring Back Flogging, Jeff Jacoby made unique, interesting
arguments about the ways to punish criminals. Jacoby describes how the Puritans punished
criminals in demeaning manners, which was quite interesting to me since I do not know much
about Puritans. I could see that their punishmentby opening criminals to public could force
criminals to be humiliated and be done instantly. However, I do not see any reasoning, which
should explain the reason why the Puritan ways could work better in our modern society than
imprisonment, in his description.
Jacoby s main argument is that some of imprisonment sentences can be replaced to more
inexpensive ways, corporal punishments like a public whipping, since giving imprisonment
sentence to petty offenders is not efficient due to its costs. He refers to Puritan s time so that he can
let readers imagine how their punishments were done instantly and did not require costs to keep
inmates in prison. However, even though he presents specific numerical information to show that
the criminal justice system is not only ineffective but also expensive, I still stay skeptical of his
idea since he significantly lacks the explanation why Puritan s ways are better in a qualitative
manner and assumption of the different backgrounds between now and past. First, Jacoby
emphasizes the present number of criminals to state that the criminal justice system has not been
working well. Some 1.6 million Americans are behind bars

Bartleby, the Scrivener the Lady with the Dog Essay
A number of the stories studied this semester explore the conflict between social restraint and inner
compulsion. Discuss at least two of the stories in the light of this.
Through an exploration of the boundaries between social constraint and inner compulsion,
Melville and Chekov reveal the restrictions forced upon one s personal desires as they struggle to
find a balance between conflicting values and social norms. Anna and Gurov in The Lady with the
Dog are restrained by the socially expected conventions in their marriages, inhibiting their ability to
express their inner compulsion of desire. Chekov reveals their yearning to escape their individual
lives as they cope with personal troubles by distancing themselves from marriage ... Show more

He uses his employment as a means of escaping social conventions through his monotonous
statement I would prefer not (Melville 1998, p. 198), living a life of choice and preference in a
world where preference is non existent. Bartleby represents a new form of humanity where an
individual has the right to choice rather than living a life of routine through social constraints,
defying all forms of society s restrictions in order to reveal his true desires.
Chekhov explores this concept of conflict through Anna and Gurov s relationship in The Lady
with the Dog as he reveals a need to defy social restraints in order to escape their marriages as
this restricts them from fully embracing their desires. The image of the long grey fence adorned
with nails (Chekhov 1998, p. 371), symbolises the confines of marriage keeping them apart, unable
to be free from social restraint. Creating an air of seclusion and limitations, this depiction appears
to be fending off Gurov, producing a feeling of entrapment and isolation as it separates their
love. The image of an old woman, a beggar and a dog walking in and out of the fence freely
further emphasises this lack of freedom they have in their lives; the portrayal of a beggar being the
most illuminating aspect of this passage. Even what is considered as the lowest form of humanity,
appears to show more freedom then what they can as they cannot pass this

How Did Gandhi Support The Human Rights Movement
At different times in history, individuals have defended human rights using a variety of methods.
Their efforts have met with varying degrees of success. One leader was Gandhi. There were many
causes for India s independence movement was when India gained independence from Britain. One
was British disrespected indian cultures. They outlawed sati. Which was when a wife burns herself

was sepoy mutiny. This was when indian soldiers who worked for British revolted against the

independence after Amritsar Massacre. He follows hinduism but uses ideas from all religions.
He asked the Indians to follow civil disobedience , which is refusal to obey laws. His idea was to
use passive resistance, or non violence. One movement was The Homespun Movement. The
Indians boycotted British cloth. They decided to weave their own cloth at home. Next was The
Salt March. It was a peaceful protest British tax on salt. The Indians could only buy salt from the
British and had to pay taxes on it. Gandhi and his followers protested by walking 240 miles to the
coast to make their own salt. Newspapers across the world spread the news. Gandhi gained
worldwide support. Eventually 60,000 Indians were arrested. Last was The Quit India Movement.
Gandhi s calls for Britain to give India immediate independence by asking all indians to leave jobs.
Indians refused to fight in WWII, teachers stopped teaching, other Indians left their jobs. This
movement was successful. There were many effects of the indian independence

Analysis Of The Persistence Of Memory By Salvador Dali
Surrealism is a 20th century art and literature movement that pursued the creative potential of the
unconscious mind. Surrealism has been around for over a hundred years and the movement
consisted of many talented artists that are still relevant today. One of the most mysterious, yet
talented, surrealist painters of the 20th century was Salvador Dali. He was known for his bizarre
paintings during his time as an artist. Dali s most famous work of art was created in 1931 and
called The Persistence of Memory. This painting uses components such as color, contrast of light
and dark, composition, background, repetition, and symbolism to create a compelling and deeper
meaning within the artwork. The Persistence of Memory depicts a dream state... Show more content

The hidden meaning of color is an essential element of art. Simple principals involving color can
be applied to art and cause an impact on how a viewer sees it. Color has been used to evoke
certain emotions or create a specific message in art for centuries. Different colors convey
different moods; cool colors can bring the mind a calming effect while warm colors can bring
the mind a feeling of happiness. Dali used color as a tool in all of his art to either artistically
show his emotions or allow his viewers to feel a specific mood. In the painting The Persistence
of Memory, Dali used a faint light blue color and a pale yellow to create the horizon of the
painting. While painting this horizon, Dali s target was to convey a calm yet joyful mood. The
yellow undertones represent light. It creates a feeling of hope and happiness in the painting. The
light hearted feeling the color gives off resembles the feeling of optimism and mellowness one
feels within a pleasant dream. While dreaming, colors subconsciously having a meaning behind
them. The faint yellow and blue colors in the painting seem unreal as they blend with the ground,
but they give the viewer, or the dreamer, a feeling of comfort. Dark and light have always
represented two differing forces of nature, whether it is moral and unmoral, happiness and despair,
or love and hate. Light is an energy that

Why Education Matter To Health
Having more education can result into positive things. When people get higher education they
have more opportunities in life. To support this idea I interviewed an educator and she explained
how education can be very important. She stated, Having little education limits people s choices.
They may not be able to enter a profession or trade they would like to (Kummerow). This
exemplifies the idea that more opportunities are open for people that get more education. For
instance, a person can have a better job. This is beneficial because it will result in more money
and it will also increase the chance for people to get a job they actually like and want. Also, people
that have a lower income usually can t afford living in a nice neighborhood.... Show more content

crop yields. In the article The benefits of education it shows the different ways that education is
helpful. It says, Wages, agricultural income and productivity are higher where women involved in
agriculture receive a better education (Global Partnership for education). This indicates that
agriculture it s mostly impacted positively when a women has a better education. Therefore, it is

William Shakespeare and Macbeth
The Fall of Man
The ancient Greek notion of tragedy concerned the fall of a great man, such as a king, from a
position of superiority to a position of humility on account of his ambitious pride, or hubris. To
the Greeks, such arrogance in human behavior was punishable by terrible vengeance. The tragic
hero was to be pitied in his fallen plight but not necessarily forgiven: Greek tragedy frequently has
a bleak outcome. Christian drama, on the other hand, always offers a ray of hope; hence, Macbeth
ends with the coronation of Malcolm, a new leader who exhibits all the correct virtues for a king.
Macbeth exhibits elements that reflect the greatest Christian tragedy of all: the Fall of Man. In the
Genesis story, it is the weakness of Adam,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shakespeare s Macbeth remains one of his most popular plays, both for classroom study and
performance, and with good reason. Here we have the playwright s shortest play, but arguably his
most intense, in terms both of its action and its portrayal of human relationships. The butcher and
his fiend like queen are among the most attractive villains in stage history, and the profound
psychology with which Shakespeare imbues them is deliciously pleasurable for theater audience
and student alike.
Macbeth was a real king of eleventh century Scotland, whose history Shakespeare had read in
several sources, principally theChronicles of Holinshed, to which he referred for many of his
other historical dramas. In Holinshed s account, Banquo and Macbeth combine to kill King
Duncan after winning his favor in a battle against the Danes. The original story is full of
wonderful details that show the cunning of the Scots and Macbeth, who slaughtered an entire
Danish army not by brute force, but by cunning: first mixing a sleeping potion and sending it, like
the Trojan horse, as a gift to the enemy army. Once they were asleep, Macbeth was able to kill
them easily. Presumably from this incident, Shakespeare derived his idea of having Lady Macbeth
administer a sleeping potion to the guards of King Duncan s chamber.
In Holinshed s account, however, although we learn that Macbeth s wife is ambitious to become
queen, Lady Macbeth does not feature as an accomplice. Instead, Banquo joins

Discuss The Nature Of Evil In The Minister s Black Veil
Additionally, Hawthorne s use of the motif the nature of evil aids to convey the negative effects
of guilt and sin in both The Scarlet Letter and The Minister s Black Veil. In The Scarlet Letter,
when Chillingworth finds out about Hester s affair, his temperament immediately changes.
Hawthorne describes this as, Calm, gentle, passionless, as he appeared, there was yet, we fear, a
quiet depth of malice, hitherto latent, but active now, in this unfortunate old man, which led him to
imagine a more intimate revenge than any mortal had ever wreaked upon an enemy (209).
Although the people of the town view Hester s sins as evil, Chillingworth is actually the most evil
of all. He is willing to do anything for revenge, due to the sin Hester committed by having an affair

Chillingworth becomes so obsessed with the idea exposing Dimmesdale for his sins, he actually
ends up turning evil himself. Chillingworth displays the nature of evil by plotting against
Dimmesdale and dedicating his entire existence towards revenge, eventually driving him mad.
Comparatively, Hawthorne also uses the motif of evil in The Minister s Black Veil to display
the negative effects of guilt and sin. In The Minister s Black Veil, Reverend Hooper wears the
veil to take on the evil nature all of humanity possesses. In doing so, he begins to change as a
person. People no longer want him at their funerals or weddings, and he begins to reflect evil
wherever he goes. This is shown at a wedding,

The Short Story Of Richard Van Camp
A tragedy in its own right must evoke emotion and a response from the audience through effective
use of several elements evident in Shakespeare s and Aristotle s style of tragic writing. The plot
progression of a tragedy should be rather specific under the idea which leads, ultimately, to the
downfall of the protagonist. Despite the sorrowful story behind Richard Van Camp s short story
Mermaids, the exclusion of several core elements from both styles of writing prevent this piece
from being classified a tragedy. Mermaids lacked the development of a tragic flaw in the main
character, Torchy, and furthermore did not lead the character to their tragic demise, Van Camp
also excluded the idea of isolating him over time and rather brought him closer to those around
him to get over his inner conflict, which is unlike a tragedy. A central character in a tragic piece
of writing should develop in a way where they are lead [ushered] to their demise due to a critical
flaw, which is caused by the inability to solve an inner conflict. Torchy was found to be at a
rather low point in his life evident by his use of drugs and his gambling issues. Despite these
vices, he does not allow it to destroy him. His relationship with the young girl, Stephanie, who
was neglected by her parents, allowed him to reflect on his past particularly after his brother s
death. [M]y daddy s gone, she says... I ll be your sister... if you ll be my brother ... I start to cry

Symptoms And Treatment Of Arthritis Essay
While everyone wishes to live to advanced age, it is not always that old age is enjoyable. Living
to see own children bring up their children is gratifying too. Many old consider age is also a
blessing but it also comes with a cost and arthritis is one of the big costs that the aged continue to

joints. It is characterized by symmetric, chronic and deforming polyarthritis that results in long term
joint disability especially in the aged.

most common disease in the developed world and manifests itself in three forms of arthritis;
rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and gout. All forms of arthritis can be detected with constant
joint pains, joint swelling and stiffness, warmth in joints and movement problems. There are many
people who are at risk of contacting arthritis but are ignorant of its symptoms. For example, women
who are above the age of sixty are more likely to have arthritis than men. There is also genetically
inherited arthritis that can run in family lines. However, arthritis can be increased due to joint

What Is The Relationship Between The Bolshevik And Mensheviks
The Bolsheviks (lit. one for the majority ) were a Russian political party that was founded in

Essay on Nonhuman Animal Rights
In regards to animals, the issue of rights and whether they exist becomes a touchy subject. In the
essay, Nonhuman Animal Rights: Sorely Neglected, author Tom Regan asserts that animals have
rights based upon inherent value of experiencing subjects of a life. Regan s argument will first be
expressed, later explained, and evaluated in further detail. Lastly, that fact that Regan thinks rights
are harbored under the circumstance of being an experiencing subject of a life will also be
discussed in terms of the incapacitated, etc. Regan positively argues that both human and
nonhuman individuals are experiencing subjects of a life. Experiencing subjects of a life have an
inherent value, which is nevertheless, equal among the populace. One s... Show more content on

It is as if one says a human who is an experiencing subject of a life must be able to understand and
communicate its thoughts. Where do animals fit in? Do we discount them because they do not
speak our language and we cannot understand theirs? Experiencing subjects of a life, in the eyes of
Regan, are argued to have an inherent value, a basic right that is equal amongst individuals. Regan
believes that because an individual is a subject experiencing life, said subject has an inherent value.
Regan notes that critics argue that only humans have inherent value, but if such delegation of
species takes place, speciesism, a form of discrimination, the fact of the matter becomes essentially
immoral. The reduction of a subject s inherent value based on grouping of species is indeed a form
of inequality...of speciesism. He argues that in order for inherent value to be portrayed equally,
discrimination of the sort cannot be morally acceptable, nor tolerated. Regan accepts that simply
saying that humans have more inherent value than animals is not a rational justification. One can
say that an individual s mother has more worth than a dog s mother; however, on what grounds
does this argument lie? This is merely an irrational and immoral statement that degrades an
individual. In turn, the justification of which individual has more

The Portrayal Of African Americans Essay
How has the image of Africans develop from being savages to being portrayed as more human
individuals? In other words, in what ways has the roles of African reversed over time? Refer to
five or more of the assigned readings to support your assertions.
A stereotype can be defined as a representational practice that categorizes and segregates an
individual or group of individuals based on their differences, often associating him/her with a
positive or negative label, such as, by outcasting an individual based on their racial and ethnic
backgrounds (Hall 225). The image of Africans as savages is a common stereotype seen in
American and European films that show Africans as barbaric and primitive creatures.
Specifically in these films, a savage is an African who is constantly portrayed and characterized
as a worthless, lazy, blood thirsty, cannibalistic beast who probably deserves to die (158). This is
because Africans don t fit the stereotypical cookie cutter mold of what the directors consider
normal (i.e. being a great white hunter), and therefore, they are immediately seen as insignificant
and worthless individuals (158). Over time, as African produced films start forming an appearance
in Hollywood, the perception of Africans slowly changes. In part because African directors
represent their race as lead characters who are independent and smart. Africans are no longer seen
as savage creatures, but instead, as actual human beings who crave to have their voice heard in the

Did The Nomadic Lifestyle Affect The Pre-Islamic Culture...
Tribal societies in Islam lived a nomadic life, with their environment consisting of a harsh, vast
desert oases. The intense sun and cold nights did not provide many resources over the infinite
desert; using trading methods, Nomadic warriors key craft was the use of fabric, which was
used to make tents that were woven from animal hair. Fabric was essential for life in the desert,
as it was a breathable material that was light enough to travel with. They used this material to
create tents for themselves; the geometric forms of the tent blocked out the shade and wind,
making it an efficient design. Fabric was also used as a tool to pray on, as it was considered pure.

Persuasive Effect On Plastic Surgery
Everyone at one point thinks about going under the knife, there was an 80% increase in the number
of girls 18 and younger receiving genital plastic surgery, according to the American Society for
Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (Simmons, 2016,para.3). Male and female teens, form ranges thirteen to
nineteen years of age, have thought or actually had done a plastic surgeryon their bodies. Even
though this procedure is overpriced and the recovery time takes long, at the end many patients

Many girls have low self esteem during their teen years when they start to grow into their

Explain The Extent Of Normal Hair Growth
The extent of normal hair growth differs between people, families, and races. It is somewhat
extensive in the Mediterranean and some Asian subcontinent populations. Too much facial or body
hair growth in a woman is known as hirsutism. There is no absolute margin between the normal
hair growth and hirsutism. Usually, sex hormones affect the hair growth in the moustache, beard,
breast, chest, armpit, the midline of the abdomen, genital area, and the thighs. A type of soft hair
(vellus hair), which is normally present all over the body, is not affected by the sex hormones. If a
woman has excess hair growth over the regions, which contain the sex hormone dependent hair, it
shows increased male hormone (androgen) production in the ovaries and adrenal glands. This
process commonly occurs due to polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS) but occasionally other rarer
conditions. Other conditions include an abnormal growth of adrenal glands (congenital adrenal
hyperplasia), Cushing s syndrome, and tumours of the ovary and the adrenal gland.
Androgens are normally known as male hormones. However, both males and females produce
androgens. Men produce androgens in larger amounts compared to women. There are few male
hormones, of which testosterone is the well known one. Hirsutism can occur due to increased levels
of androgens or raised sensitivity of the hair follicles to normal male hormone levels.
A few women with hirsutism produce excessive androgens. Sometimes, this is because of a medical

The Negative Effects Of The Industrial Revolution

Industrial Revolution Essay
The Industrial Revolution which began in Britain in 1750 because the earliest inventors and
engineers were from Britain. With the Industrial Revolution, urban societies grew. This caused
people to work in factories instead of on their farms. They began to work for the same amount of
time every day and used machinery instead of making things by hand. This allowed goods to be
mass produced cheaply and efficiently. In short the Industrial Revolutionwas a dramatic change in
all aspects of work. As competition increased for companies factories and other employers desire
for money also grew so to the population and demand for industrialization. This new kind of work

So the health and physical condition of the workers were deteriorating. Peter Gaskill, a medical
examiner saw these things happening in the factories. He wrote about how the factories had no
ventilation making it really hot, especially when the workers had to work for hours at a stretch
without moving. The children working in the factories in London, England 1930 would barely
get any exercise and this would disrupt their growth and development ( The Life. ) The chimney
sweepers regulation bill was rejected in 1819. It required the use of machines to clean chimneys.
Young boys were going up chimneys to clean them and the machines that were used in the
factories could have done this dangerous task for them but even after Parliament s debate on
march 8th, 1819 the bill was never passed and those boys had to continue sweeping chimneys
without the aid of machines used in factories. The health of these boys were not taken care of by
the employers and all they wanted was to make profit even if it made others suffer ( Opposition. )
Some argue that the Industrial Revolution was a positive development because new inventions and
forms of technology made the work in the factories more cheap and efficient. Such as the sewing
machine which was invented in 1844. Even though less workers were needed in the

what their Constitution and leading politicians claim. Furthermore, Morocco is currently 0.01%
evangelized overall. It is in desperate need of evangelism. There are over 13 million people in
Morocco that need to hear about Jesus Christ. That would be the equivalent of all of Illinois and
Vermont being completely unreached. This paper will attempt to outline a strategy of beginning a
church planting movement that reaches the rural Arab, Moroccan s and more specifically, the
Arabized Berber ethnic group that are primarily farmers and small villagers, through practical
means of farming techniques and livestock care that will establish relationships. In order to
accomplish this, this paper will first attempt to give a brief background of the Arabized Berbers by
highlighting their history, culture, language and religion. Second, this paper will survey the work
of current missionaries among them that explores the history of missions, the status of the church
today and the strategies being employed. Finally, this paper will offer a proposal for a strategy to
reach the Arabized Berbers that involves prayer, financial support, partnering with indigenous
churches, believers and other organizations and tent making skills that encourage self support.

The Tragic Heroes Of Hamlet And Oedipus
The Tragic Heroes Hamlet and Oedipus
A hero in a drama is the focus point throughout the story, someone who technically saves life s
and carries pride within them. In Hamlet by Shakespeare and Oedipus Rex by Sophocles they
simply create a tragic hero due to their stories having a twist in what a hero turns out to be at the
end of the dramatic stories. They have similar issues as well as they have their differences in their
stories. Shakespeare and Sophocles create a similar touch to their dramatic heroes, and not only do
they write those type of stories but they also create different characteristics to them and defining
them in other ways that can be entertaining. Even though in both Hamlet, and Oedipus contain
tragic endings, both main characters were viewed as heroes at one point in the story, however the
authors did not create a same character each main character has their own characteristics and each
author had their way of writing a drama. Shakespeare and Sophocles wrote different things and as
well as Shakespeare is known for his poems, he is also known for his dramatic stories with a tragic
ending.

For example, parents who grew up in the south and learned racism disowned their daughter
because she was dating a black boy. This is an extreme case in how racism among generations can
ruin a family, but sadly, this is something that happens all the time. Another example of differing
viewpoints by generation in a family can be seen in Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer when Chris
McCandless strongly disagrees about what the meaning of life is; his father believes it s all
about the material goods and having money but Chris believes that it s about finding peace with
yourself without the outside influence of media or society. A more specific example of this is
when Chris father offered to buy Chris a new car but he did not want it because he already had a
car that worked perfectly fine (Krakauer 20). Millennials are more open to equality and

ideas and information instantaneously. This is a great way to spread culture and beliefs. By

Variation Of Duration And Fundamental Frequency
Variation in duration and fundamental frequency and assimilation in different segmental contexts
This paper will examine two things. The first is the way duration and fundamental frequency vary
according to phrasal position. The second is how F2 transitions for /d/ and /g/ change according to
adjacent segmental context. From this, I will determine whether categorical assimilation has
occurred in fad bag and fag bag. 1. Introduction 1.1 Duration Much research has been carried out
concerning the duration of sentences. One of the main findings is that there is a lengthening effect
in the rhyme of the final syllable (Wightman et al., 1992). There are many other factors that
contribute to duration, but this is the most prominent effect. According to Wightman, this effect is
caused by preboundary lengthening. This is the lengthening of segments prior to a prosodic
boundary. Another cue is the insertion of a pause at major boundaries (Wightman et al., 1992).
Alternative research, carried out by Lehiste in 1974, concerned the rate of speech when phrases
contain a larger number of words. Lehiste found out that the duration of words in the sentence

No man in our time aroused fear and hatred in the white man as did Malcolm, because in him the
white man sense an implacable foe who could not be had for any price a man unreservedly

Why would anyone feel comfortable living in a society integrated with the people who instilled in
them the belief that they were subpar and actually taught them to hate themselves?
Hardships can pull people apart, but Malcolm found that common factor that unified people to come

and that is what brought them together. The only thing that all blacks in America had in common

General Positivism And The Interpretive Paradigm
Part 1: Purpose
a)Social Science Research Paradigm
The social science paradigm also known as Post positivism consists of testing hypothesis and
research questions that are developed through reasoning. This is done through measurements and
observation. Social scientists aspire to science and they seek to study human behaviour, interaction
and thought in an organized way; which we can then measure, generalize and replicate. Like any
research, post positivism needs to be backed up by evidence. When a social science research sets
out a research project, it is their goal to find evidence that can either agree or disagree with the
hypothesis or theories. Post positivism, compared to positivism allows more interaction with the
participants of the research project and seeks to highlight the relationship between universal
properties between the variables. The best way to understand post positivism is by comparing it to
positivism and the interpretive paradigm. Compared to positivism, post positivism is more tolerant
for value based information, however is not focused on qualitative information like the interpretive
paradigm, instead the research is mainly focused on quantitative data.

Making the right choice and acting on it when faced with an ethical question can be difficult.
Sometimes, it means standing your ground and telling your supervisor you think their wrong. If
you think an order is illegal, first be sure that you understand both the details of the order and its
original intent.
With all these things in consideration it is clear that being a non commissioned officer is a job that
holds absolute importance in the army. In a field environment the job of a non commissioned
officer is to lead their soldiers into combat and issue orders commanding their team, squad or
platoon. A team leader in specific is tasked with possibly the most difficult job in the army. They

more so than any other non commissioned officer job in the Army. Although it is the most
junior position as a non commission officer it holds the most difficult task which does a lot to
break in a new non commissioned officer. If a team leader fails to do his job its will usually hold
the biggest consequences. If a team leader fails his soldiers in a combat situation soldiers can be
wounded or killed. Although this is the most extreme outcome a team leader must work hard to
learn his position and embrace his duties as quickly and responsibly as possible. Being a team
leader in a garrison environment is also very difficult but also a very good

Relationship Between Relationships And Family Structures
Relationships can either be monogamous or non monogamous in nature and its definitions and
functions can vary. A monogamous relationship is traditionally characterised by two individuals
who have dependent children or also as a nuclear family. Monogamy is a hetero normative practice
that involves two individuals in a relationship; the couple is not engaged in extramarital intimacy.
Nuclear families also fall under this practice. Polyamoryis a non monogamous practice that refers to
multiple intimate partners and experiences. However, some scholars argue that if, or when one
individual engages in infidelity, Polyamory is a viable option to sustain the relationship. Academic
research positions Polyamory as an option that may successfully... Show more content on

underpins marriage in many Western and some non Western countries. Scholars have continued to
argue the success of monogamous relationships. Harville Hendrix (1990) explains that monogamy
is a healing practice. Partners in monogamous relationships go through many stages and struggles as
a committed couple. Through struggle, partners act as healers that help to work through each other
s suffering (Hendrix 1990). Hendrix (1990) believes individuals choose their partners to work
through the pain together and help them grow through life. Monogamous marriage is a spiritual
path to happiness and commitment between two individuals (Hendrix 1990). A committed
relationship requires monogamy, and Hendrix (1990) contends that healthy and spiritual
commitments encourage the sustainability of monogamous relationships. Although Hendrix (1990)
contends that monogamy is an effective practice, research has largely built a case around the
consequences of monogamous relationships.
Debates have circled around the experiences within nuclear families and monogamous
relationships, and Stelbourn (1999) proclaims it is a largely patriarchal practice. Stelbourn (1999)
uses Engel s work during the eighteenth century, to explain the still existent contemporary debate
around the consequences of monogamy. The work of Friedrich Engels (Stelbourn 1999) focused
on the division between mothers as housewives, and fathers as workers in nuclear families. Women
were reduced in power and

The Main Events And Struggles Of The War With Mexico
The Main Events and struggles of The War with Mexico in 1846 1848
Andrew Windham
Central High School
November 9 15
5th Period Abstract An abstract paragraph is a summary of the impact of your research on your
topic. It is not an introductory paragraph. It should be three to four sentences in length.
The Main Events and struggles of The War with Mexicoin 1846 1848
Your introductory paragraph starts here. It is an explanation of what or who your subject is. We
will also talk about what events led to the war. We will talk about the after effects and the main
events that occurred during the war. It will include important dates, documents, people, and battles
throughout the paper.
The war with Mexico was the first American war fought on foreign soil. In order to fight against
Mexico we had to build a strong Army as well as a strong Navy. The war was fought between a
really unprepared military Mexico and James K. Polk (United States President). James believed
the United States had a Manifest Destiny (A belief that the expansion of the United States from
one ocean to the ocean on the other side of the United States was justified and inevitable). A
border skirmish on the Rio Grande started off the war and a lot of American victories followed
behind it. When it was all over Mexico had lost about a third of its territory, including New Mexico,
Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and California.
The Manifest Destiny was believed not only by Polk but also by many American citizens. It was

Purification of lactate Dehydrogenase
Purification of Lactate Dehydrogenase
Results and Discussion
Monitoring Assays Enzyme activity assay and Bradford dye binding protein assay was used.
Ammonium Sulfate Fractionation In order to isolate and purify Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH),
we first extracted LDH from bovine muscle tissue. We minced 8 grams of meat and homogenized
using blender. The homogenate was centrifuged and the pellet consisting of membranes,
organelles, cytoskeletal components and structural fragments was discarded. The crude extract
was subjected to 40% (NH4)2SO4 fractionation. The purpose of this is to remove molecules of
lesser solubility than LDH like lipids, fats and low soluble proteins. For this, 9.24 g of was slowly
added to crude extract while stirring reaching final solution saturation of 40%. The mixture was
then centrifuged and the pellet consisting the contaminants was discarded. From table I, the data
indicate that the yield for this was 88% with purification factor of 1.5. The total protein in 40%
supernatant was 121 mg which decreased from 210 mg present in crude extract while retaining
88% of LDH suggesting some contaminant proteins were removed. Due to some discrepancies in
protein data for crude extract and 40% supernatant, we re assayed these. Even though week 3 data
may not be very reliable, the crude extract assay from week 2 and 40% supernatant assay from
week 3 gave the most appropriate data with least error. The 40% supernatant was then subjected to

Tomorrow And Tomorrow Or The Terror Dream Essay
1.The following three images are relevant to either Tomorrow and Tomorrow or The Terror
Dream. Close read and rhetorically analyze one of the images and discuss how it is thematically
relevant to Tomorrow and Tomorrow or The Terror Dream. This image depicts President George
Bush, embracing and comforting the daughter of one of the victims of 9/11. President Bush is
being depicted as a place and symbol of safety, security and strength. He resembles a comforting
father figure, to a poor, emotional, victimized little girl. This image is directly related to the
discussion of 9/11 and the public response to it, as discussed in the beginning of The Terror
Dream. This image is a direct result of 9/11. As Faludi discussed, the media and the... Show more

What might Sweterlitsch be suggesting about social media, technology, and oppression? Cite at
least one specific example from the novel. Technology in Tomorrow and Tomorrow is depicted
in a futuristic, almost dystopian manner. The tech is something that runs, defines, and sometimes
even confines society. Which, is sadly something that can be scene in our own reality. However,
the role and influence of technology is more extreme in Tomorrow and Tomorrow. Their biggest
form of technology is surgically implanted in their head. Nowadays, we like to joke that our
youth and current generations and their technology are inseparable, but it pales in comparison to
this sort of immediacy they are quite literally always plugged in. In Tomorrow and Tomorrow,
technology is more obviously corrupt and dark. It is apparently utilized for political and social
manipulation, and is a driving force behind the sexual terrorism industry an industry that feeds on
the objectification, manipulation, degradation and abuse of women. This contrast with how our
own reality struggles with this ideal, but also likes to believe that technology is more of a tool for
positive connectivity, information, and social improvements. So, perhaps we are hopeful? Or just
naive? Perhaps Sweterlish is suggesting that social media and technology is a breeding ground for
the oppression of women. It serves as a platform from which we judge, objectify and abuse women.

Xbox Vs Pc Minecraft Research Paper
Xbox vs Pc Minecraft
Minecraft has become very popular during the day and made people have great laughs and
many great times. But each of us must have started off minecraft from a certain console. 2 of
most popular consoles is xbox and PC minecraft. But did you know that they have many
differences? Today you will wonder no longer because you will finally know the differences
between Xbox Minecraft and PC Minecraft. If you played PC minecraft before any other version
of minecraft, you know when you spawn in a world and you look around in creative mode, you
realize the world is endless. But it would be pretty hard to find your home if you get lost. But in
xbox version when you spawn in a new world and you realize the world isn t ... Show more content

It is hard to decide, but most of us argue that the PC is not better than Xbox version minecraft. But
let s talk about why PC minecraft is better than xbox. The most biggest difference for xbox is that it
doesn t have the huge multiplayer option and Minecraft Realm option. In the PC version in
multiplayer you can join minecraft servers where you can play games like sg, skywars,
Factions, and much more games. Another cool thing about multiplayer is that you can get to
know some good online friends and in this server called Mineplex you can do /friend to friend
people so if they re on at some point, you can teleport to them and play with them. Minecraft
realms is where you can do survival or creative or do minigames, and much more cool stuff.
What s even cooler if you get your own minecraft realm you can invite as many people as you
want and you can get to play with them. Xbox multiplayer is up to 4 people and the more people
you have, the shorter each of your screens is and the more lag you get. But if you do online
multiplayer on one of your xbox worlds you can only invite up to 8 people. Xbox is awesome, but
PC minecraft has way more options than

Living In Suburban Nation
In the communities I grew up in, there were frequent changing circumstances that actually left
my family not really as part of the community. From dingy, cheap and tiny places for rent, there
has been significant points brought to the attention of the reader in this book that could attribute
to the failure and success of neighborhoods. In Suburban Nation, the opening pages give a lot of
insight on the issues that can come from these big and fancy, new housing developments.
Looking into the first relative community destroying idea, the reading focuses on how roads and
droning subdivisions can make it not worth living in these places. On the note of how roads
affect our community, it says that One s role in this environment is primarily as a motorist
competing for asphalt (41). In this opening, it really proved true to the circumstances I have
experienced. Living in Tampa, all I remember is how much time we spent in a car or not outside
because it wasn t safe to really walk anywhere around us so we were... Show more content on

A section reads that in the absence of walkable public places... people of diverse ages, races, and
beliefs are unlikely to meet and talk (60). In my neighborhood, the only place anyone could
really go was the park but people mostly drove. The Florida heat and careless drivers made a lot
of people avoid walking at all costs, but depending on the area we were in it changed. On the
street of my neighborhood, no one even really acknowledged anyone else. In the nearby parks or
amusement places, people were a lot more willing to interact with one another because they all
wanted to be there and felt comfortable. In creating a safer, more pleasant environment for
pedestrians, people s willingness to interact with people they normally wouldn t was significantly

  • 2. The Life and Work of Confucius Philosophy Essay Confucius The Life And Work Of Confucius Philosophy Essay Confucius (551 479 BCE), was a thinker, political figure, educator and founder of the Ru School of Chinese thought. Confucius was born at Shang ping, in the country of Lu. His given name was Kong, but his disciples called him Kong fu tse, (i.e. Kong the Master, or Teacher.) His father passed away when he was only three years old. Confucius mother Yan she raised him. During his younger years Confucius showed a love of learning, and an expression of awe for the ancient laws of his country. Confucius was only nineteen years old when he married, but he divorced his wife after only four years of marriage so that he could have more time for his study and the performance of his public duties. ... Some have argued that, because of the text s inconsistencies and incompatibilities of thought, there is much in the Analects that is non Confucian and should be discarded as a basis for understanding the thought of Confucius. Benjamin Schwartz cautions us against such radical measures. While textual criticism based on rigorous philological and historic analysis is crucial, and while the later sections [of the Analects] do contain late materials, the type of textual criticism that is based on considerations of alleged logical inconsistencies and incompatibilities of thought must be viewed with great suspicion. . . . While none of us comes to such an enterprise without deep laid assumptions about necessary logical relations and compatibilities, we should at least hold before ourselves the constant injunction to mistrust all our unexamined preconceptions on these matters when dealing with comparative thought. (The World of Thought in Ancient China, p. 61) Confucius philosophy was predominately a moral and political one. It was founded on the belief that heaven and earth coexist in harmony and balanced strength while maintaining a perpetual dynamism. Human beings, he taught, are sustained by these conditions and must strive to emulate the cosmic model. The Doctrine of the Mean is the elaboration of the way of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Stravinsky Influence On Society Stravinsky is undoubtedly now one of the most influential pioneers due to his musical innovations in new music at the beginning of the 20th Century. Stravinsky was born in 1882, into the privileged society of pre revolutionary Russia. In his early years, he was raised strictly under the faith of the Russian Orthodox Church, which is said to have led on to have a large impression on his compositional styles. At the tender age of 9, Stravinsky s talent in keyboard improvisation had become apparent at this stage being influence by composers like Glinka and Tchaikovsky. During his early 20 s, although studying law at university, he began private lessons in composition from Rimsky Korsakov. The Rite of Spring In 1913, Stravinsky premiered his arguably most famous and influential work The Rite of Spring. This ballet ended up to potentially be a very controversial work, pioneering new ideas in both the music and the choreography. Bureaucracy and Max Weber CONTENT INTRODUCTION2 CHARACTERISTICS OF MAX WEBER THEORY OF BUREAUCRACY2 CRITICS TOWARDS MAX WEBER S THEORY5 ADVANTAGES OF MAX WEBER THEORIES6 CONCLUSION7 BIBLIOGRAPHY8 1.0 Introduction According to Stephen P. Robbins and Mary Coulter in their book titled Management, bureaucracy can be defined as a form of organisation characterised by division of labour, a clearly defined hierarchy, detailed rules and regulations, and impersonal relationship. Bureaucracy usually gives a negative meaning in life. When it comes to bureaucracy, automatically people would imagine things like red tape, filled form with too many information and too detail, small problems become complicated because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It means, there must be no individual objectives are allowed. All people must follow the organization objectives. In other word, staff members are free of any external responsibilities and constraints so that they are able to attend to their duties in a fair and objective way. For example, work is separated from residence in order to separate personal duty and objective of the organization. 2.0.6 Lifelong Career Commitment Weber stressed that employment in the organization should be seen as a career for officials. An official is a full time employee, and anticipate a lifelong career. After an introduction period, the employee is given tenure, which protects the employee from arbitrary dismissal. The organization should create a better working scheme such as clear promotion route and good remuneration scheme. Max Weber viewed these bureaucratic elements as solutions to problems or defects within earlier and more traditional administrative systems. Likewise, he viewed these elements as parts of a total system, which, combined and instituted effectively, would increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the administrative structure. 3.0 Critics toward Max Weber Theories of Bureaucracy There are various critics from public administration philosophers toward bureaucracy theory generated by max Weber. 3.0.1 Rigid Rules and Uncreative Weber lined out that the characteristics of his theory on bureaucracy ... These achievements such as cultural, mathematical, scientific, etc. help define how successful that civilization was. There were always scientific and mathematical achievements of different magnitudes in every civilization. The three civilizations that really stand out in their mathematical and scientific achievements are the Greek, Chinese, and Indian civilizations. Ancient India began around 2600 B.C. and ended around 500 A.D. The civilization flourished around the Indus River, which is one of the greatest rivers in Asia. They were a well organized and farming people. They had so many natural boundaries that protected them, so they didn t have to take time to create a military, which let them prosper and have very important achievements. Ancient Chinabegan around 2205 B.C. and really ends around 256 B.C. Ancient China was a very large, long, and powerful empire. They were the longest civilization and they are still around today, and still use the beliefs of the ancient times. In China, people farmed, people were warriors, people were merchants, etc. There was really no preferred job in Ancient China. The abundance of the variety of jobs led to the discoveries of many different achievements. Ancient Greece began around 700 B.C. and ended around 146 B.C. • 7. Summary OfBring Back Flogging By Jeff Jacoby Flogging in Modern Society In Bring Back Flogging, Jeff Jacoby made unique, interesting arguments about the ways to punish criminals. Jacoby describes how the Puritans punished criminals in demeaning manners, which was quite interesting to me since I do not know much about Puritans. I could see that their punishmentby opening criminals to public could force criminals to be humiliated and be done instantly. However, I do not see any reasoning, which should explain the reason why the Puritan ways could work better in our modern society than imprisonment, in his description. Jacoby s main argument is that some of imprisonment sentences can be replaced to more inexpensive ways, corporal punishments like a public whipping, since giving imprisonment sentence to petty offenders is not efficient due to its costs. He refers to Puritan s time so that he can let readers imagine how their punishments were done instantly and did not require costs to keep inmates in prison. However, even though he presents specific numerical information to show that the criminal justice system is not only ineffective but also expensive, I still stay skeptical of his idea since he significantly lacks the explanation why Puritan s ways are better in a qualitative manner and assumption of the different backgrounds between now and past. First, Jacoby emphasizes the present number of criminals to state that the criminal justice system has not been working well. Some 1.6 million Americans are behind bars ... • 8. Bartleby, the Scrivener the Lady with the Dog Essay A number of the stories studied this semester explore the conflict between social restraint and inner compulsion. Discuss at least two of the stories in the light of this. Through an exploration of the boundaries between social constraint and inner compulsion, Melville and Chekov reveal the restrictions forced upon one s personal desires as they struggle to find a balance between conflicting values and social norms. Anna and Gurov in The Lady with the Dog are restrained by the socially expected conventions in their marriages, inhibiting their ability to express their inner compulsion of desire. Chekov reveals their yearning to escape their individual lives as they cope with personal troubles by distancing themselves from marriage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He uses his employment as a means of escaping social conventions through his monotonous statement I would prefer not (Melville 1998, p. 198), living a life of choice and preference in a world where preference is non existent. Bartleby represents a new form of humanity where an individual has the right to choice rather than living a life of routine through social constraints, defying all forms of society s restrictions in order to reveal his true desires. Chekhov explores this concept of conflict through Anna and Gurov s relationship in The Lady with the Dog as he reveals a need to defy social restraints in order to escape their marriages as this restricts them from fully embracing their desires. The image of the long grey fence adorned with nails (Chekhov 1998, p. 371), symbolises the confines of marriage keeping them apart, unable to be free from social restraint. Creating an air of seclusion and limitations, this depiction appears to be fending off Gurov, producing a feeling of entrapment and isolation as it separates their love. The image of an old woman, a beggar and a dog walking in and out of the fence freely further emphasises this lack of freedom they have in their lives; the portrayal of a beggar being the most illuminating aspect of this passage. Even what is considered as the lowest form of humanity, appears to show more freedom then what they can as they cannot pass this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Analysis Of The Persistence Of Memory By Salvador Dali Surrealism is a 20th century art and literature movement that pursued the creative potential of the unconscious mind. Surrealism has been around for over a hundred years and the movement consisted of many talented artists that are still relevant today. One of the most mysterious, yet talented, surrealist painters of the 20th century was Salvador Dali. He was known for his bizarre paintings during his time as an artist. Dali s most famous work of art was created in 1931 and called The Persistence of Memory. This painting uses components such as color, contrast of light and dark, composition, background, repetition, and symbolism to create a compelling and deeper meaning within the artwork. The Persistence of Memory depicts a dream state... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The hidden meaning of color is an essential element of art. Simple principals involving color can be applied to art and cause an impact on how a viewer sees it. Color has been used to evoke certain emotions or create a specific message in art for centuries. Different colors convey different moods; cool colors can bring the mind a calming effect while warm colors can bring the mind a feeling of happiness. Dali used color as a tool in all of his art to either artistically show his emotions or allow his viewers to feel a specific mood. In the painting The Persistence of Memory, Dali used a faint light blue color and a pale yellow to create the horizon of the painting. While painting this horizon, Dali s target was to convey a calm yet joyful mood. The yellow undertones represent light. It creates a feeling of hope and happiness in the painting. The light hearted feeling the color gives off resembles the feeling of optimism and mellowness one feels within a pleasant dream. While dreaming, colors subconsciously having a meaning behind them. The faint yellow and blue colors in the painting seem unreal as they blend with the ground, but they give the viewer, or the dreamer, a feeling of comfort. To support this idea I interviewed an educator and she explained how education can be very important. She stated, Having little education limits people s choices. They may not be able to enter a profession or trade they would like to (Kummerow). This exemplifies the idea that more opportunities are open for people that get more education. For instance, a person can have a better job. This is beneficial because it will result in more money and it will also increase the chance for people to get a job they actually like and want. • 13. William Shakespeare and Macbeth The Fall of Man The ancient Greek notion of tragedy concerned the fall of a great man, such as a king, from a position of superiority to a position of humility on account of his ambitious pride, or hubris. To the Greeks, such arrogance in human behavior was punishable by terrible vengeance. The tragic hero was to be pitied in his fallen plight but not necessarily forgiven: Greek tragedy frequently has a bleak outcome. Christian drama, on the other hand, always offers a ray of hope; hence, Macbeth ends with the coronation of Malcolm, a new leader who exhibits all the correct virtues for a king. Macbeth exhibits elements that reflect the greatest Christian tragedy of all: the Fall of Man. In the Genesis story, it is the weakness of Adam,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shakespeare s Macbeth remains one of his most popular plays, both for classroom study and performance, and with good reason. Here we have the playwright s shortest play, but arguably his most intense, in terms both of its action and its portrayal of human relationships. The butcher and his fiend like queen are among the most attractive villains in stage history, and the profound psychology with which Shakespeare imbues them is deliciously pleasurable for theater audience and student alike. Macbeth was a real king of eleventh century Scotland, whose history Shakespeare had read in several sources, principally theChronicles of Holinshed, to which he referred for many of his other historical dramas. In Holinshed s account, Banquo and Macbeth combine to kill King Duncan after winning his favor in a battle against the Danes. The original story is full of wonderful details that show the cunning of the Scots and Macbeth, who slaughtered an entire Danish army not by brute force, but by cunning: first mixing a sleeping potion and sending it, like the Trojan horse, as a gift to the enemy army. Once they were asleep, Macbeth was able to kill them easily. Presumably from this incident, Shakespeare derived his idea of having Lady Macbeth administer a sleeping potion to the guards of King Duncan s chamber. In Holinshed s account, however, although we learn that Macbeth s wife is ambitious to become queen, Lady Macbeth does not feature as an accomplice. Instead, Banquo joins ... • 14. Discuss The Nature Of Evil In The Minister s Black Veil Additionally, Hawthorne s use of the motif the nature of evil aids to convey the negative effects of guilt and sin in both The Scarlet Letter and The Minister s Black Veil. In The Scarlet Letter, when Chillingworth finds out about Hester s affair, his temperament immediately changes. Hawthorne describes this as, Calm, gentle, passionless, as he appeared, there was yet, we fear, a quiet depth of malice, hitherto latent, but active now, in this unfortunate old man, which led him to imagine a more intimate revenge than any mortal had ever wreaked upon an enemy (209). • 15. The Short Story Of Richard Van Camp A tragedy in its own right must evoke emotion and a response from the audience through effective use of several elements evident in Shakespeare s and Aristotle s style of tragic writing. The plot progression of a tragedy should be rather specific under the idea which leads, ultimately, to the downfall of the protagonist. Despite the sorrowful story behind Richard Van Camp s short story Mermaids, the exclusion of several core elements from both styles of writing prevent this piece from being classified a tragedy. Mermaids lacked the development of a tragic flaw in the main character, Torchy, and furthermore did not lead the character to their tragic demise, Van Camp also excluded the idea of isolating him over time and rather brought him closer to those around him to get over his inner conflict, which is unlike a tragedy. A central character in a tragic piece of writing should develop in a way where they are lead [ushered] to their demise due to a critical flaw, which is caused by the inability to solve an inner conflict. Torchy was found to be at a rather low point in his life evident by his use of drugs and his gambling issues. Despite these vices, he does not allow it to destroy him. His relationship with the young girl, Stephanie, who was neglected by her parents, allowed him to reflect on his past particularly after his brother s death. [M]y daddy s gone, she says... • 24. The Portrayal Of African Americans Essay How has the image of Africans develop from being savages to being portrayed as more human individuals? In other words, in what ways has the roles of African reversed over time? Refer to five or more of the assigned readings to support your assertions. A stereotype can be defined as a representational practice that categorizes and segregates an individual or group of individuals based on their differences, often associating him/her with a positive or negative label, such as, by outcasting an individual based on their racial and ethnic backgrounds (Hall 225). The image of Africans as savages is a common stereotype seen in American and European films that show Africans as barbaric and primitive creatures. Specifically in these films, a savage is an African who is constantly portrayed and characterized as a worthless, lazy, blood thirsty, cannibalistic beast who probably deserves to die (158). This is because Africans don t fit the stereotypical cookie cutter mold of what the directors consider normal (i.e. being a great white hunter), and therefore, they are immediately seen as insignificant and worthless individuals (158). Over time, as African produced films start forming an appearance in Hollywood, the perception of Africans slowly changes. In part because African directors represent their race as lead characters who are independent and smart. • 28. Explain The Extent Of Normal Hair Growth The extent of normal hair growth differs between people, families, and races. It is somewhat extensive in the Mediterranean and some Asian subcontinent populations. Too much facial or body hair growth in a woman is known as hirsutism. There is no absolute margin between the normal hair growth and hirsutism. Usually, sex hormones affect the hair growth in the moustache, beard, breast, chest, armpit, the midline of the abdomen, genital area, and the thighs. A type of soft hair (vellus hair), which is normally present all over the body, is not affected by the sex hormones. If a woman has excess hair growth over the regions, which contain the sex hormone dependent hair, it shows increased male hormone (androgen) production in the ovaries and adrenal glands. This process commonly occurs due to polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS) but occasionally other rarer conditions. Other conditions include an abnormal growth of adrenal glands (congenital adrenal hyperplasia), Cushing s syndrome, and tumours of the ovary and the adrenal gland. Androgens are normally known as male hormones. However, both males and females produce androgens. Men produce androgens in larger amounts compared to women. There are few male hormones, of which testosterone is the well known one. The first is the way duration and fundamental frequency vary according to phrasal position. The second is how F2 transitions for /d/ and /g/ change according to adjacent segmental context. From this, I will determine whether categorical assimilation has occurred in fad bag and fag bag. 1. Introduction 1.1 Duration Much research has been carried out concerning the duration of sentences. One of the main findings is that there is a lengthening effect in the rhyme of the final syllable (Wightman et al., 1992). There are many other factors that contribute to duration, but this is the most prominent effect. According to Wightman, this effect is caused by preboundary lengthening. This is the lengthening of segments prior to a prosodic boundary. Another cue is the insertion of a pause at major boundaries (Wightman et al., 1992). Alternative research, carried out by Lehiste in 1974, concerned the rate of speech when phrases contain a larger number of words. Lehiste found out that the duration of words in the sentence Say... instead was longer than the same word in the sentences Sometimes it s useful to say the word ... instead and The word ... is sometimes a useful example . In his speech The Ballot or the Bullet given on April 3, 1964 in Cleveland, OH, Malcolm explained, Now in speaking like this, it doesn t mean that we re anti white, but it does mean we re anti exploitation, we re anti degradation, we re anti oppression. And if the white man doesn t want us to be anti him, let him stop oppressing and exploiting and degrading us. Why would anyone feel comfortable living in a society integrated with the people who instilled in them the belief that they were subpar and actually taught them to hate themselves? Hardships can pull people apart, but Malcolm found that common factor that unified people to come together. He made them realize that they all came from the same place and had the same struggles, and that is what brought them together. The only thing that all blacks in America had in common was the fact that none of their black ancestors originated in the United States. They had all been brought from Africa in one way or ... • 38. General Positivism And The Interpretive Paradigm Part 1: Purpose a)Social Science Research Paradigm The social science paradigm also known as Post positivism consists of testing hypothesis and research questions that are developed through reasoning. This is done through measurements and observation. Social scientists aspire to science and they seek to study human behaviour, interaction and thought in an organized way; which we can then measure, generalize and replicate. Like any research, post positivism needs to be backed up by evidence. When a social science research sets out a research project, it is their goal to find evidence that can either agree or disagree with the hypothesis or theories. Post positivism, compared to positivism allows more interaction with the participants of the research project and seeks to highlight the relationship between universal properties between the variables. The best way to understand post positivism is by comparing it to positivism and the interpretive paradigm. Compared to positivism, post positivism is more tolerant for value based information, however is not focused on qualitative information like the interpretive paradigm, instead the research is mainly focused on quantitative data. b) Literature Review Students are now busier than ever, according to the survey conducted by the New Zealand Union of Students Association, 63% of students are working while at university, with an average of 25 hours a week (2010), this causes clashes when it comes to arranging physical group ... Making the right choice and acting on it when faced with an ethical question can be difficult. Sometimes, it means standing your ground and telling your supervisor you think their wrong. If you think an order is illegal, first be sure that you understand both the details of the order and its original intent. With all these things in consideration it is clear that being a non commissioned officer is a job that holds absolute importance in the army. In a field environment the job of a non commissioned officer is to lead their soldiers into combat and issue orders commanding their team, squad or platoon. A team leader in specific is tasked with possibly the most difficult job in the army. They deal with their small group of four or five soldiers but in the most direct hands on approach, more so than any other non commissioned officer job in the Army. Although it is the most junior position as a non commission officer it holds the most difficult task which does a lot to break in a new non commissioned officer. If a team leader fails to do his job its will usually hold the biggest consequences. If a team leader fails his soldiers in a combat situation soldiers can be wounded or killed. Although this is the most extreme outcome a team leader must work hard to learn his position and embrace his duties as quickly and responsibly as possible. Scholars have continued to argue the success of monogamous relationships. Harville Hendrix (1990) explains that monogamy is a healing practice. Partners in monogamous relationships go through many stages and struggles as a committed couple. Through struggle, partners act as healers that help to work through each other s suffering (Hendrix 1990). Hendrix (1990) believes individuals choose their partners to work through the pain together and help them grow through life. Monogamous marriage is a spiritual path to happiness and commitment between two individuals (Hendrix 1990). A committed relationship requires monogamy, and Hendrix (1990) contends that healthy and spiritual commitments encourage the sustainability of monogamous relationships. Although Hendrix (1990) contends that monogamy is an effective practice, research has largely built a case around the consequences of monogamous relationships. Debates have circled around the experiences within nuclear families and monogamous relationships, and Stelbourn (1999) proclaims it is a largely patriarchal practice. Stelbourn (1999) uses Engel s work during the eighteenth century, to explain the still existent contemporary debate around the consequences of monogamy. The work of Friedrich Engels (Stelbourn 1999) focused on the division between mothers as housewives, and fathers as workers in nuclear families. Women were reduced in power and ... In order to fight against Mexico we had to build a strong Army as well as a strong Navy. The war was fought between a really unprepared military Mexico and James K. Polk (United States President). James believed the United States had a Manifest Destiny (A belief that the expansion of the United States from one ocean to the ocean on the other side of the United States was justified and inevitable). A border skirmish on the Rio Grande started off the war and a lot of American victories followed behind it. • 45. Purification of lactate Dehydrogenase Purification of Lactate Dehydrogenase Results and Discussion Monitoring Assays Enzyme activity assay and Bradford dye binding protein assay was used. Ammonium Sulfate Fractionation In order to isolate and purify Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH), we first extracted LDH from bovine muscle tissue. We minced 8 grams of meat and homogenized using blender. The homogenate was centrifuged and the pellet consisting of membranes, organelles, cytoskeletal components and structural fragments was discarded. The crude extract was subjected to 40% (NH4)2SO4 fractionation. The purpose of this is to remove molecules of lesser solubility than LDH like lipids, fats and low soluble proteins. For this, 9.24 g of was slowly added to crude extract while stirring reaching final solution saturation of 40%. The mixture was then centrifuged and the pellet consisting the contaminants was discarded. From table I, the data indicate that the yield for this was 88% with purification factor of 1.5. The total protein in 40% supernatant was 121 mg which decreased from 210 mg present in crude extract while retaining 88% of LDH suggesting some contaminant proteins were removed. Due to some discrepancies in protein data for crude extract and 40% supernatant, we re assayed these. Even though week 3 data may not be very reliable, the crude extract assay from week 2 and 40% supernatant assay from week 3 gave the most appropriate data with least error. Cite at least one specific example from the novel. Technology in Tomorrow and Tomorrow is depicted in a futuristic, almost dystopian manner. The tech is something that runs, defines, and sometimes even confines society. Which, is sadly something that can be scene in our own reality. However, the role and influence of technology is more extreme in Tomorrow and Tomorrow. Their biggest form of technology is surgically implanted in their head. Nowadays, we like to joke that our youth and current generations and their technology are inseparable, but it pales in comparison to this sort of immediacy they are quite literally always plugged in. In Tomorrow and Tomorrow, technology is more obviously corrupt and dark. It is apparently utilized for political and social manipulation, and is a driving force behind the sexual terrorism industry an industry that feeds on the objectification, manipulation, degradation and abuse of women. This contrast with how our own reality struggles with this ideal, but also likes to believe that technology is more of a tool for positive connectivity, information, and social improvements. So, perhaps we are hopeful? Or just naive? Perhaps Sweterlish is suggesting that social media and technology is a breeding ground for the oppression of women. It serves as a platform from which we judge, objectify and abuse women. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
