The Discovery of Antibiotics
The discovery of antibiotics in the 20th century was a major advancement in medicine. At the time of
the discovery, war was taking place, which resulted in a plethora of infected wounds. Antibiotics can
be described as a use, laboratory effect, or an action of a chemical compound (Clardy et al). Selman
Waksman first used the term in 1941 when describing the small molecules made by microorganisms
that prevent the growth of other microorganisms (Clardy et al). Antibiotics helped control the infection
which allowed many who were injured a second chance to live. The antibiotic that was first
discovered and used to cure war infections was penicillin. Since the discovery of antibiotics,
controlling infections and diseases became easier, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The peptidoglycan coat in bacterial cells is formed by a crystal lattice structure that forms linear
chains from a pair of alternating amino acids. The cross linking of peptidoglycan strands by the
transpeptidase enzyme forms an uneven cell wall. Antibiotics, notably penicillin, interfere with this
cross linking, which destroys the bacteria cell wall. More specifically, antibiotics work by attaching to
specific sites on the ribosome, which affects with the bacteria s function during protein synthesis. The
small or 30S ribosomal subunit has binding sites for tRNA molecules. These sites are known as the
aminoacyl (A), peptidyl (P), and exit (E) sites. The process known as decoding oversees base pairing
between the codon of mRNA and the anticodon of tRNA at the A site, allowing the 30S subunit to
distinguish between the similarities of the tRNAs (Brodersen et al). Because most antibiotics bind to
ribosomes, its main target is the rRNA, which results in most of the binding sites being near the
mRNA and the tRNA binding sites, or at sites that undergo structural rearrangements during the
processes of decoding or translocation (Dallas et al). In all, the antibiotic prevents the bacterium from
creating its cell wall, which essentially kills the bacterium (Brodersen et al).
The appearance and spreading of antibiotic resistant pathogens have given rise to many studies
involving the genetic

The Similarities and Differences between Buddhism, Jainism...
Upon reading about the historical and religious background of Ancient India, one can clearly assume
that the country was strongly influenced by three main religious teachings: Hinduism, Jainism and
Buddhism. These three sects in religious thinking have many similarities as all recognize the life cycle
and the need of liberation, they worship one central deity that used to be a human who gained
enlightenment and they all recognize the existence of the eternal soul and after death re incarnation.
However, they also share a lot of differences that mark the underlying principles of practicing them. I
will identify the scope of differences and similarities in these ancient religions in an attempt to
understand why each attracted followers, why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Buddhism teaches people to live honorably and follow the Eightfold Path to reach release from the
state of infinite re incarnation and reach nirvana, which means the end of the life cycle by living a life
full of dignity and refuse from all other attachments causing their desires and strifes McKay et al.,
2008)
Jainism treats the issue of life and death in a very similar way. Followers believe that living a non
violent life and respecting the sacred life existing around people (according to the Jains, everything in
the world, including the inanimate, has a soul) may release the human being from the vicious circle of
re incarnation. Jains also recognize the eternal nature of the human soul and believe it exists as
enmeshed in the human s or object s body during a whole life. However, Jainism assumes that the soul
parts from the body when it does to be re incarnated into something (or somebody) else, which means
Jains do not recognize the unity of soul and body. This is actually the principle of all three religions
they pose little value to the human life because all followers believe that the soul will still remain in
the human world, but will only change its appearance once re incarnated into some other being or
object. (McKay et al., 2008)
Hinduism fully shares the idea of the life cycle and re incarnation, as all were essentially derived from
the Brahman tradition. People should spend their life in search of unity with Brahman, following the
teaching of Vedas and

Impressionism Research Paper
Behind every piece of artwork is a story. The era of impressionism stands out because of its technique
and use of vibrant color. I enjoy the soft look and feel the paintings usually have which is why I have
decided to discuss this artistic movement in my paper. Furthermore I will touch upon the birth of
impressionism and its contributors.
Since the 18th century, paintings were classified by the genre they fit in. History paintings were
viewed to be superior, followed by portraits, landscape, genre scenes, and still life. The upcoming
style to break this hierarchy would be Impressionism. Impressionism started around 1869 and would
soon birth a variety of incredible artists still acknowledged today. Now let s start to break down what
defines this new style called impressionism. The term Impressionism developed from a scolding
critique by Lewis Lee rod where he described a painting as just a minor impression. This ... Show

Renoir had moved to Paris in order to study art, which is were he met Claude Monet, and other great
impressionist painters. Renoir shared Monet s interests yet regularly liked to catch manufactured light
in spaces like dance halls and focused on the female frame, as opposed to landscape. He was also the
first Impressionist to detach from the movement s ultramodern direction but his excitement for
painting was evident to all who met him and watched his work. A master at depicting facial
expressions, Renoir tended to paint youthful portraits of his associates, most of whom were artists and
writers. His early art works captured real life scenarios and his themes were always pleasant and non
serious.Taking enormous pleasure in his craft, Renoir drew inspiration from a variety of sources and
experimented with new techniques all throughout his vocation. Renoir s exotic works, for example,

Social Anxiety Disorder And Social Depression
Social Anxiety Disorder
Social anxiety disorder it s an intense worry or fear of social situations that involve interactions with
others. It is categorized as a Phobia a persistent and irrational fear of a specific object, situation, or
activity. This leads to feelings of inadequacy, self consciousness, and depression. The person suffering
of social anxiety disorder may believe that all eyes are on them at all times, fear of being judge by
others, and have a strong fear of embarrassing themselves. Social anxiety is the third largest mental
health case issue in the world, and it can affect 10% of the population at any given time. Social
Anxiety disorder usually begins in childhood or adolescence. Is more prevalent among women than
men.
Everyone can relate to feeling anxious before giving a presentation, but those with social anxiety
disorder experience an intense fear of being looked at closely and negatively evaluated by others in
social or performance situations. Some literally feel sick from fear in nonthreatening situations. Some
may become anxious during routine activities such as starting a conversation with a stranger,
participating in class, dating and attending parties. Physical symptoms of social anxiety disorder may
include blushing, profuse sweating, trembling, nausea, rapid heartbeat, and shortness of breath,
dizziness or lightheadedness, headaches and feeling of detachment and loss of self control.
Psychological symptoms of social anxiety disorder may include

Was Unrestricted Submarine Warfare By Germany The...
A: Identification and Evaluation of Sources
To what extent was unrestricted submarine warfare by Germany the principle reason for United States
involvement in the First World War? Germany was the main culprit of using submarines in order to
threaten ships of other countries and their main target Great Britain. In 1915 when Germany released a
policy called Unrestricted submarine warfare , this would give Germany the right to attack ships that
would cross the war zone. This would later on lead to attacks that would kill many from neutral
countries and this would later on lead to the Declaration of War on Germany by the United States.
Learning more about this topic would give the opportunity to understand why the United States joined
the First World War and how this affected the United States later on. Published in 1918, German
Submarine Warfare; a Study of Its Methods and Spirit serves as an analysis of how the German
Warfare affected the War and it explains the relationships between Germany and the United States.
While the perspective of this book is from an American Author, Wesley Frost, who served as a
coordinator for relief operations for the survivors of the Lusitania attack this book tackles not only the
feelings of Allied countries but also of how Germany felt and what were their motives. Both a strength
and limitation of this source is that it is written from one author s perspective. Due to the fact that it is

Raphael Sanzio Essay
Raphael Sanzio
Raphael was one of the most important artists of the Italian Renaissance. Raphael painted and
designed many brilliant pieces of work and the stanzas inside the Vatican. He was a master at such
necessities of modern art such as depth and perspective and the use of light and shadow, and was the
turning point styles of paintings like the use of Madonnas in paintings. Through his short life, Raphael
would make some of the most awe inspiring, beautiful, and influential works of art during the Italian
Renaissance.
Raphael whose full name was Raphael Sanzio, (also known as Raphael Sanzi), was born on April 6th,
1483. He was born in the town of Urbino, Italy, where he would spend his childhood life until he was
11 years old. His ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Raphael created The Marriage of the Virgin before he was even 21 years old, and he was still Perugino
s apprentice. Even then, Raphael had a great understanding of depth and perspective, which he shows
well in The Marriage of the Virgin. In that piece, the background is beautifully drawn, and although
the background stands out, you can still notice the people in the foreground without being distracted
by the background. These people are shown having emotions, and instead of being motionless, some
characters are making very noticeable actions and a lot of movement, so the people do not appear
lifeless. Instead, they appear sort of realistic.
In 1504, Raphael moved to Florence. There, in Florence, some of the Italian Renaissance s biggest
names lived and worked in Florence. In Florence, Raphael studied Michelangelo s use of anatomy and
Leonardo da Vinci s use of light and shadow. He met such big names in Florence such as
Michelangelo, Leonardo, and Fra Bartolommeo, who was another painter that did such works as The
Holy Family. It was in Florence that Raphael made a name for himself as an artist.
One style of painting Raphael favored all throughout his career was that of creating Madonnas over
his short life; those are what made Raphael famous in Florence. The way Raphael created his
Madonnas, Madonna meaning Mary, the mother of Jesus, portray Mary as a loving, caring human
woman. Many other artists before Raphael portrayed Mary as an

Anthrophysiology Of Stress
Stress is what happens when the body responds to a threat. When the brain feels that the body is being
threatened or the brain feels pressure the brain causes the nervous system to release stress hormones
and awakens or alarms the body to create stress. Stress can also be explained as when you are
mentally or emotionally strained or tired from difficult or very demanding tasks. Another way to
define stress is when you feel as though something or someone is making you feel like everything is
very hard to overcome. Stress can create various threats such as raising blood pressure, can cause
stomach aches, shut down the immune system or slow it down, and it can also put you in more risk or
either having a stroke or a heart attack in a later period ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the body feels as though you are being approached with a challenging situation the adrenal gland
produces this hormone which then goes to the adrenal cortex and then that causes your brain to be
notified of this act of stress and causes your brain to react to it, this process with the adrenal gland can
react in just seconds. The adrenal glands are located in the area where the kidneys are they are actually
connected and after the Adrenal glands there is the adrenal cortex which is what makes the signal go
to your brain to make you feel stressed.
Adrenaline
Adrenaline is a hormone that is created in the adrenal glands especially in a condition of stress,
increasing the rate of the blood s circulation, breathing and is preparing the body or the bodies muscle
for exertion (exertion also known as preparing for a stressful or a very difficult decision or a difficult
task). Adrenaline may be also explained as an exhilarating feeling when you feel as though you are at
the edge often felt when either one is very happy, or a very stressed unreal feeling when you are very
tensed by a certain scenario.
What Causes Body Temperature to Change
There are many reasons why one s body temperature can either rise or decrease but some of the
reasons that have been searched for, they may be strange but true. One example is if you were to lie

Canada Swot Analysis
Following the Second World War, Canada has made various efforts to improve its peacekeeping
reputation, and beginning with them joining the United Nations (UN) after its creation in 1945, they
were mostly successful. However, not all of their efforts have been successful; they have also made
some mistakes along the way. A few examples of Canada s efforts within the last 60 years include the
Suez Crisis in 1956, the United Nations Mission for Rwanda from 1993 to 1996 and United Nations
Operation in Somalia in 1992. One of Canada s most successful peacekeeping missions was the Suez
Crisis that occurred in October 1956. The Suez Crisis was a battle for control of the Suez Canal which

Compare And Contrast Mesopotamia And Indus River Valley...
Ishaan Sarfani The two ancient river valley civilizations of Mesopotamia and the Indus River valley
civilization, prior to 600 BCE had many things that remained stagnant in terms of their cultures but
also they had just as many changes. Due to New advances and by influence from other civilizations
such as the Indus over Mesopotamia and vice versa this increased the amount of change a lot. As these
river valley civilizations grew and developed they began to gain influence from other surrounding
ones. In both societies religion played a crucial role in politics. Although there is no solid evidence to
state that there was a formal style of governance in the ancient Indus civilization it is theorized that
there was because of the mass amounts of public works that there are present which are found in the
ruins of their civilization. So it is believed that the Brahmins is had some role to play in government.
As the story goes in India there was a god named purusha who sacrificed himself in order to cease the
caste system. Purusha s mouth became the people of the top caste called the Brahmins. These people
were the priests. Next came the warriors known as Kshatriyas. They made up purusha s arms. This
system followed and continued as such all the way down to purushas legs where the artisans and
craftsman were. In Mesopotamia there was a similar system to that of the Indus civilization s the code
of Hammurabi which shows us a glimpse into the Mesopotamians version of the case

Social Anxiety Disorder ( Sad )
Social Anxiety Disorder Affecting One s Life Social anxiety disorder (SAD), also known as social
phobia, is the most common mental illness in the United States. About 40 million people suffer from
this mental disorder. Many tend to confuse this disorder with shyness and nervousness, which are not
considered a part of the phobia. Having a SAD can interfere with one s daily life cycle. People who
have SAD often starts to develop this illness during their childhood and adolescence years. Patients
are affected with this mental illness for many years before being diagnosed. Past experiences in a
person s childhood can form and shape their lives so that they may end up having social anxiety
disorder. Some past experiences like bullying, depression and low self esteem can lead to the fear of
socially interacting or communicating with other people. There are many cases of bullying that cause
people to grow this disorder. Bullying is one of the main causes of Social Anxiety Disorder. The
different types of bullying all have a different effect in the disorder, such as verbal, cyber, and physical
bullying all have different causes. Verbal bullying can cause people to start to think wrongly of
themselves. They also start to believe that the things that the people are saying could possibly be true.
This intertwines with the cyber portion of the bullying. Cyber bullying also causes people to think that
the things people are electronically saying are true. Also, just as verbal bullying,

The Palatine Chapel At Aachen
The Palatine Chapel at Aachen, Germany is an example of Early Christian medieval architecture and
one of the earliest examples of Carolingian architecture. The Palatine Chapel was contrasted between
the years of 790 and 805 by architect Odo of Metz. Metz created the chapel for Emperor
Charlemagne, who ruled during the second half of the eighth century. Charlemagne was a strong new
force that emerged on the continent, and his ruling brought out new ideas, architecture and religion to
the people under his ruling. It was under Charlemagne, that the new dynasty of Carolingian was
created, and with his expansion, he brought this dynasty to many different places around the continent.
Carolingian architecture is influenced by styles from past western capitals, this implies The Palatine
Chapel as it is influenced from past architecture as well. He admired many other architectural pieces
and used many other pieces as inspirations for one of the earliest examples of the Carolingian style. It
is noted that the chapel was a strong way to represent the religion of Christianity, however it can also
be said that the chapel was a way to represent Charlemagne and all the things he wished for the people
under his rule. The making of the chapel in more ways is strongly connected to the Christian religion.
Charlemagne was a very powerful man who first seized power when he was able to attain much of
Western Europe from the years 768 to 814. He ruled over which would be modern day Germany,

perspective called The Cult of True Womanhood, which meant a woman should be devout, unstained,
obedient and well behaved. However, men could practically be the opposite of the women and yet be
depicted as inferior to men. In addition, another historical view presented is Male Gender Role
Identity in which a man could be prosperous by being tough, suppressing emotions, avoiding feminine
actions and passions. Furthermore, a psychological test that was performed was the Attitude Interest
Analysis Survey in which resulted in masculinity and femininity as complete opposites. For example,
men are tough and independent, whereas women are weak and dependent.

Why New Zealand Is Not A Classless Society Essay
Social class, is a highly controversial topic and is one of the most debated topics amongst sociologists,
with many different theorists claiming it entails different things. There has been much debate between
sociologists whether or not New Zealand is a classless society, and I am here today to argue against
this view, stating my reasons as to why New Zealand is not a classless society and in fact never has
been. I will argue this by looking at the social stratification of New Zealand throughout time, dating
back to Traditional Maori in the early nineteenth century, through to the contemporary society we see
today. In order to argue this point, it is first necessary to define what class is. Class refers to a form of
stratification: the process by which human society rank and evaluate themselves into a hierarchical
order (Spoonley et al. 1990) and according to Marxist theory, exists in two distinctive categories: the
bourgeoisie: those who own and control production and the proletariat: the working class that provides
the labour for production (McLennan, Ryan and Spoonley, 2004). Weber s analysis of class is similar
to Marx s, but in contrast he discusses class in the context of social stratification more generally.
Weber s sociological perspective puts emphasis on status and power rather than materialism, arguing
class arose through competition for economic resources, social prestige and political influence
(Richard Bedggood, 1980) At a more basic level when sociologists

Pablo Picasso Guernica Essay
Guernica is another perfect example of Picasso exhibiting history in his work. The mural sized oil
painting on canvas was painted by Pablo Picasso in 1937. It is painted in a palette of grey, black and
white and is regarded by many as modern art s most powerful antiwar statement . The mural exhibits
suffering people and animals wrenched by violence and chaos. A gored horse, a bull and flames are
prominent features of the artwork. Guernica displays the tragedies of war and the suffering it imposes
on individuals, specifically innocent civilians. The lack of colour intensifies the chaos and the tragedy.
Guernica is a town in the province of Biscay in Basque Country. On Monday 26th April 1937,
warplanes of the German Condor Legion bombed Guernica for two hours. At the time. Picasso was
working on a mural for the Paris Exhibition that was to be held in the summer of 1937. On May 1st,

Key figures such as the bull, the agonized horse and a woman with outstretched arms were perfected
in sketch after sketch before being transferred onto the canvas. A painting is not thought out and
settled in advance, Picasso said. While it is being done, it changes as one s thoughts change. And
when it is finished, it goes on changing, according to the state of mind of whoever is looking at it. The
bull and the horse are both important characters in Spanish culture. The rampaging bull is thought to
represent the onslaught of Fascism. Picasso said the bull meant brutality and darkness while the horse
represented the people of Guernica. The painting was at first overwhelmingly criticised as Cubism
was still a fairly new concept at this time. Picasso continued producing work and was eventually a

Reflection Paper On Golf Carts
As a teenager, hearing our parents tell us no to doing something enjoyable due to it being unsafe is a
huge heartbreaker . We seem to think we are invincible and that our parents know absolutely nothing.
January 1st of 2015, I learned that maybe, just maybe, our parents are actually looking out for us. We
should probably listen to them when they tell us to not ride a golf cart at 1 A.M. on a freezing cold
winter night. My day started off just as it usually does, I wake up and go straight to the kitchen for my
morning cup of hot chocolate. I knew that this day was going to be fun, it was New Year s eve. My
grandparents were having a family party that night. I have a very close relationship with all of my
family so seeing everyone together again was extremely exciting. We got to my grandparents house
around 7 P.M. Most of my family arrived earlier so, I went off to see what my cousins were doing. I
found them in the backyard driving rampant on my grandfather s new golf cart. I probably should
have taken this as a sign to not get on, but everyone else was doing it so I decided I should just do it
too. Our parents eventually told us it was getting too late and to come inside. After watching the ball
drop, My cousins and I decided to take my grandfather s golf cart for one more ride. Our parents told
us that it was too late, too cold, and we shouldn t be going. We had the bright idea to go against what
our parents had just told us and told them we were going outside to play basketball. We got outside to
find that the keys were still in the ignition from the excitement we experienced earlier that day. My
cousins, Blake and Hannah, got in the front seat while I got in the backseat along with my other cousin
Hillary. We started our ride off with a trip down the driveway and quickly picked up speed, way faster
than we expected. As we got towards the end of the driveway, Blake decided it would be a good idea
to make a sharp left turn. This caused the golf cart to flip. As we were flipping, I could see Blake and
Hillary jump off while Hannah and I were somehow thrown under the golf cart. Hannah ended up
getting lucky, only her ankle was caught under a metal bar and she was able to easily get out. On the

Character, Morals, Integrity Essay
Character, Morals, Integrity
Morals, character, integrity, what do these words mean....actually, the question is, do you have them. A
man named Dwight Moody once said, Character is what you are in the dark. You cannot see your
morals, character, or integrity, these are only shown as your values. Someone could only show their
own values, which are very important to themselves and everyone else. Integrity is the firm adherence
to a code of especially moral or artistic values. The way you show your integrity, character, and
morals or how they are effect you in either a negative or positive way. There are many causes to how
your values are. So as you know, integrity is very important and it is important to have it.
First of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Laura stated, integrity effects you by either being honest or not. If you are honest, then you have
integrity. People who say that they are going to do something do it. You can now see that character,
morals, and integrity are very important.
Secondly, people may think that their values may not affect them, but they re wrong, they affect them
a lot. Since character describes how you are and what your moral strengths are, having bad character
could make people dislike you because of how you are. On the other hand, if you have good character,
then more people would see how good of a person you are and even more people would like you.
Morals sort of describe the way you make decisions, so having bad morals could guide your life down
the drain, while having good morals could guide your life minute by minute toward noble goals.
Integrity is also very important. Having bad integrity could make you very non trustworthy to others.
Having good integrity would make you very trustworthy to others. Knowing how important they are,
you should always have good or even better character, morals, and integrity.
Also, there are many causes for how your character, morals, and integrity are. One cause could of
course be yourself. By hanging out with the right people and making good decisions, you could have
good values. Yet hanging out with the wrong people and making bad decisions would be having bad
values. Another cause may

The Sports And Public Relations Essay
Public relations and public relations practitioners focus heavily on maintaining mutually beneficially
relationships. Through these relationships, public relations allow companies and products to gain
exposure and public acknowledgement, without the need to pay for advertising. This paper will focus
on the sports industry in Australia, specifically focusing on the illegal drug use in the Essendon
Football Club that came to the medias attention in late 2011. Due to the severity of the doping
occurring within the club, sponsorships were lost and most recently, players and staff were banned
from the game they love. The media follows the Australian Football League (AFL) with great priority
during the playing season. Without public relations, clubs would not be able to relay information such
as player injury updates, team statistics and club news to the public. Through discussing the drug
scandal within the Essendon Football Club, the way in which public relations deals with crisis within
professional sport will also be reviewed. In doing this, theories; framing and relationship management
will also be demonstrated and appropriately discussed in relation to how the above case study was
handled by the public relations team.
Sport is one of the greatest mediums followed by the media, especially in Australia. The Australian
press covers all sports ranging from cycling to tennis to football and all of these are covered through a
variety of channels. These channels include

been a big part of my life. When I was a young child, I was always being read to, and when I could
finally read myself, my family could not ever get me to stop. Through this, I have picked up the skill
of coming up with storylines and writing prompts very quickly. At the age of two, I was enrolled into
Calera Dance Academy, where I have remained for the past 12 years. I have also gained the ability to
follow choreographers easily and pick up routines as well. My lifestyle goals include graduating

Isolation In Ender s Game, By Orson Scott Card
In the novel Ender s Game, Orson Scott Card illustrates how the adults test Ender s intelligence and
ingenuity through isolation and with no morality. Ender is born into a family where he is an outcast
known as a third. In this military paradigm, a third born child is looked upon in disgust and hatred.
This means that Ender is isolated even before he is brought into the world. This is one of the many
elements of isolation Card uses to bring the reader further into Ender s struggle throughout the story.
He has created a paradigm in which the adults use no morality while training Ender. The adults
manipulate him without any compassion because that is how they are supposed to train the students.
Isolation is one of the most powerful tools that the adults use for Ender s improvement.
In Ender s Game, Orson Scott Card illustrates isolation, the most powerful tool the military uses to
manipulate individuals. It makes it impossible for an individual to depend on others, and that is why
Ender must develop his own resources. Graff talks about Enders isolation and says to one of his

member suggested that each member select a question they felt comfortable answering and presenting
in class. The group members also agreed a deadline as to when everyone needed to write up their part
of the presentation and turn it in to one members of a group who would gather the data and enter it
into a power point presentation format. Everyone in the group agreed that they would email me their
written part of the presentation. Prior to the classroom presentation, the group reviewed the data
entered in the power point, edited it and agreed as to the order of the information that would be
presented in class. Finally, the group gathered prior to the presentation and made last minute edits to
slides. The group agreed that there were too many slides and agreed to reduced them to a minimal
amount. After agreeing to the final PowerPoint presentation the group rehearsed the information to be
presented prior to the class meeting. This group did not experience the storming effect. No one in the
group believed that they were being judged and everyone was able to share their opinion and views.
As one member of the group stated that this was one of the easiest group she had ever been in because
everyone got along and no arguments over the project emerged.

The Hitchhiker s Guide On The Galaxy Single Handedly Answers
The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy single handedly answers the question to the meaning of life in a

impossible to know what the question itself entails. For, according to Douglas Adams, if any one
person knows the meaning of the question and the answer at the same time, the Universe will start
over and become even weirder than it already is. His theory may seem irrational, but just wait, it gets
even better. Imagine going on a crazy, wild interstellar adventure with the threat of death around every

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is known for its blend of satire, deadpan humor, and absurdity,
(Swann). It is understandable that initially, the primary readership following mainly consisted of
college kids. The book quickly grew in popularity after readers began to rave about it. Adams s unique
writing style changed literature and led to a new era of science fiction. Douglas Adams had a lot of
time to hone his skills as a writer because he started his career at a very early age. Twelve years. For
some, this is only enough time to realize finally that puberty is just a part of growing up. For others, it
may be the first time that they discover that members of the opposite sex do not have the inoperable

think about stepping foot in the kiddy section of their local Wal Mart. But it was exactly at twelve
years old that Adams had the self assurance and realization to know already what he wanted to do with
his life. Shortly after getting a good grade on a book that he had written in his class, he decided to
share his brilliance with the rest of the world. He went on to publish it, starting his career earlier than
most before becoming a teenager. His book is titled Dan Dare

The French Occupation Of Spain During The Peninsular War
Francisco Goya was a Spanish painter and printmaker, especially known for his works depicting and
commenting on the horrors of the French Occupation of Spain during the Peninsular War, in the early
1800 s. The Third of May , an oil on canvas painting created in 1814 by Goya, illustrates the mass
executions of innocent Spanish civilians, in response to the uprising of civilians against the French
military the previous day. Saturn Devouring his son , another oil on canvas masterpiece by Goya,
depicts the mythological, gruesome figure of the god Saturn, who, based upon the fear of a prophecy,
ate each one of his own children.
The Third of May depicts a pitch black sky, looming over crowds of people below, dimly lit by
geometric lanterns nearby. The focus of the scene involves two separate groups the faceless,
practically identical French military, aiming their guns towards the direction of a group of petrified
civilians, making various different positions. Around the civilians are lifeless bodies, coated in their
own blood. As many of the civilians turn away, one figure is prominent in the centre. The man s arms
are outstretched in a seemingly surrendering manner, as he kneels upon the ground, waiting to be shot.
Unlike the other people, whose clothes are a sea of dark blues, greens and browns, the man wears
bright white and yellow clothing, emphasised through the illuminating light of the lantern which is
cast in his direction. If examined closely, the man also appears

Although there were no historical events at the time the film was released, it was the end of the
millennium and a new generation was able to learn about the Holocaust through this film. In regard to
the director and producers influencing the film, it is important to know that this film was based off of
the novel written by Jane Yolen. Yolen was raised by two Jewish parents, had Jewish ancestors, and
grew up learning the Jewish traditions. At the time, Donna Deitch, the director, realized that children
and teenagers knew hardly anything about the Holocaust because they were not being educated about
it in school. Her goal when making this film was to educate the children about the terrible times of the
Holocaust. One of the producers, Murray Schisgal, was born and raised by Jewish ancestors giving
him a direct insight on the Holocaust. Throughout the film, the perspective is seen through the eyes of
Hannah Stern. Hannah and Rivkah are the two main characters. During the flashback when Hannah
and Rivkah first met, they were cousins. But in modern day, Hannah is Rivkah s niece. Both Hannah
and Rivkah are portrayed as young Jewish woman around the age of eighteen. In the beginning of the

Property Crime And Property Crimes
A crime occurs when someone breaks the law by an overt act, omission or neglect that can result in
punishment. A person who has violated a law, or has breached a rule, is said to have committed a
criminal offense.
There are two main categories of crime: property crime and violent crime:
PROPERTY CRIMES
A property crime is committed when someone damages, destroys or steals someone else s property,
such as stealing a car or vandalizing a building.
Property crimes are by far the most commonly committed crime in the United States.
VIOLENT CRIMES
A violent crime occurs when someone harms, attempts to harm, threatens to harm or even conspires to
harm someone else. Violent crimes are offenses which involve force or threat of force, such as rape,
robbery or homicide.
Some crimes can be both property crimes and violent at the same time, for example carjacking
someone s vehicle at gunpoint or robbing a convenience store with a handgun.
OMISSION CAN BE A CRIME
But there are also crimes that are neither violent nor involve property damage. Running a stop sign is a
crime, because it puts the public in danger, even though no one is injured and no property is damaged.
If the law is not obeyed, there could be injury and damage.
Some crimes can involve no action at all, but rather inaction. Withholding medication or neglecting
someone who needs medical care or attention can be considered a crime.

How Does Rap Music Affect Society
American Rappers have been perceived as artists who cannot do any good to society, because of their
lyrics or the music videos that they make, but that is only one small group of individual rappers.
Generalizing has never been a good thing, and that is exactly what these people do all the time putting
all rappers in the same category. How can some people be so ignorant and not recognize the excellent
music that has saved people from themselves? Out there right now there are a lot of rappers that are
always making beautiful music and this type of rap music has been made since Hip Hop s beginnings.
Making people believe that rap music is the worst thing that has ever happened just makes the society
unknowledgeable and doesn t allow that the good rap music that has already inspired a lot of people to

like the music that makes youth act recklessly, and for that reason rappers are often seen as just as bad

Cooperative learning is now the most recognized instructional models in education worldwide

Essay on Traditional African Music
Traditional African Music
An attempt to pin down a single meaning for the word traditional, presents a problem in many ways.
The implications of the word are many, and are tied to various connotations. Some people, Westerners
in particular, may actually shun the traditional, as they feel that it implies a resistance to modernity.
This view is incorrect, and there exists an ethnocentric double standard when Westerners consider
their tradition versus African tradition. Others focus on tradition as that which has always been done,
for whatever reason, and that it must be continued to maintain the community, a universal balance, a
relationship with the gods, or some other goal. Africa and its people have experienced many hardships

and the extent to which tradition is acceptable varies within societies, based particularly on the
importance of tradition in music, a societal perception of time, and the junction of maintaining
tradition yet still managing to progress.
?Out with the old and in with the new,? and ?new and improved,? are just two phrases that express the
Western view of the ancient or already existing as needing improvement or change. Alan Merriam?s
description of the Western perception of tradition seems to encapsulate the essence of Western life.
Rather than taking time to enjoy the moment and the current situation, or to relish the beauty of the
arts, there is always an agenda, a purpose, a final goal. There seems to be no such idea of the present
as a time in which to take a break and relax. Instead of ?projecting our future out in front of us as a
possible horizon of action, thus throwing a perspective on our past as presently experienced,?
Westerners experience the present as that which is already past, and choose to focus on the future.i
The future represents a time when everything can be faster, better, stronger, more efficient, more high
tech, in other words, continually moving away from tradition, when it is defined as the old. In a
strange way, this goal oriented way of experiencing life is itself becoming tradition. With
industrialization and modernization, the desire for all aspects of life to be superlative

Garden Of Eden Research Paper
The Jewish people believe that the current world is a place to prepare oneself for Olam Ha Ba, the
World to Come. According to the Talmud, all of Israel has a share in the World to Come, but it is not
equal. A righteous person will have a greater share than that of an ordinary person. The place of
spiritual reward for the righteous is known as Gan Eden, the Garden of Eden. This is not the same

Jewish tradition states, For when a man departs from this world... [he] meets Adam, the first man,
witting at the gate of Gan Eden, ready to welcome with joy all those who have observed the
commands of their Master. Round him are many righteous men, those who in this life have kept clear
of the path to Gehinnom and followed the part of Gan Eden. Upon arriving in Gan Eden, souls
encounter the light of Gan Eden through the River of Light. Tradition states that the river is created
from perspiration that flows from the heavenly hosts as they fervently sing glory to the Highest. The
river serves the purpose of purification so that one may emerge and come before the Master of the
Universe in a completely pure state. Within Gan Eden, there is a lower and an upper level. Lower Gan
Eden serves as a transit between She ol and Upper Gan Eden. In Lower Gan Eden souls continue to
prepare for entry into the Upper Gan Eden. The Zohar, a work from within the Kabbalah, states that
upper Gan Eden is reserved for the pious of a higher grade. Upon entering upper Gan Eden, the soul is
once again purified in the River of Light. The second purification heals the soul of any remaining
defilements. Upper Gan Eden is said to consist of celestial music and organized schools for
continuous learning of the Torah. Within the upper level, there are many other levels

they made their way through and he couldn t believe that they got away with it but they did.
A renowned writer named Matthew Smith writes in his book JFK: The Second Plot that Lee Harvey
Oswald was serving in Marines when he was recruited as a CIA agent. A former CIA man, Wilcott
claimed that Oswald had been recruited from the military for the express purpose of becoming a
double agent assignment. Oswald was under very little freedom under the soviets and soviets were

The Philosophical Evolution Of Metaphysics Essay
The Philosophical Evolution of Metaphysics: The Influence of Metaphysics on Poets and How It
Pertains to Today Society.
Imagine, the year is 2150 and a student is sitting at her desk looking within at latest technology, she
thinks about lost poets that history books have shunned for the significance of more famous poets. As
a child in modern society, the importance of lesser known poets, such as Thomas Traherne and George
Herbert, are considered valuable for their philosophical influence in poetry. Over the course of time
literature has become a melting pot of ideas borrowed from other poets and literary works, which are
coagulated into one another to make a new idea. People in modern society need to understand the
importance of remembrance in the similarities in the backgrounds, metaphysical influences, and
written works of Thomas Traherne and George Herbert.
It is astonishing how both poets have similar upbringings with almost a 100 year gap between them.
The background of Thomas Traherne presented by Richard Firth has stated that Thomas Traherne was
born within the wall of Hereford City in 1637 (page 1). At the age of five, the British Civil War
marched into his town where they beheaded King Charles I. Later that year, Treharne left to attend the
Hereford Cathedral School. After graduation, he then attended Brasenose College in Oxford, earning
his BA (Bachelor of the Arts) in 1656. During the years of 1657 1660, he wrote his first complete
work titled, Select

The War Of The Radio Building
Dominik stood in front of the Czechoslovak Radio building. He perspired uncontrollably and his
heartbeat could have been heard from three blocks away. Soldiers marched through the streets of
Prauge, followed by what must have been thousands of tanks and armored vehicles. Thinking like the
journalist he was, he imagined how he would portray the event, provided that he lives to tell about it:
August 20, 1968: Soviets Invade Prauge, Democracy Comes to an End . The last part, Democracy
Comes to an End, was particularly disturbing to him. With a sudden burst of courage, he resolved that
it would not happen before he draws his last breath. When Dominik heard the low rumble of a diesel
engine growing louder, he did not run and hide. Instead, he clenched his fists, looking left and right at
the approximately twenty other journalists determined to defend the radio building. A Soviet personnel
carrier came to a stop in front of them. Eight men stepped out, and demanded to access to the radio
building. Dominik replied, in Russian, over my dead body . The Soviet reached for his pistol, and with
a single shot, fulfilled that condition.
Throughout the Cold War, both the United States and the Soviet Union spread their influence by either
invading or inciting regime change in countries that refused to cooperate with them. In Chile and Iran,
among other countries, the United States helped stage a coup d état to prevent the country from
adopting communism, but the CIA conducted the

Reflection On Micro Teaching
This essay will analyse and highlight on the fifteen minute micro teaching reflection that is vital for
the self evaluation and professional development of my teaching practice. It will further identify my
strengths and weaknesses through my peer assessment and reflect on the teaching and learning
theories, methods and strategies that are linked and practiced in my micro teach.
According to the teachers standards (DfE, 2012) teachers make the education of their learners their
first concern, keep their knowledge up to date and are self critical. Therefore, this reflection practice
will guide me towards the improvement on my lesson planning strategies and delivery. In addition, it
will also make an enormous difference in my teaching and learning practice which is vital for teacher
training.
One of the significant part of this course is micro teaching session, in this session we are required to
deliver fifteen minute planned lesson containing learning outcome. Furthermore, this session was
recorded and observed by the peers to evaluate. Due to my interest in ESOL I decided to deliver my
session on Boogle Puzzle to embed a simple literacy/numeracy activity aims to target ESOL (English
for speakers of other languages) learners. In this task, pupils are given activity to make seven ten
words in the English language from the word grid to improve word recognition and spellings.
Based on reflection of my micro teaching I provided learners with the basic instructions on Boggle
puzzle and opted for potential instruction strategy. I used present, practice and produce strategy
(English language resource, 2017) to allow pupils to practice and learn new vocabulary in co operative
way. Similarly, I used co operative learning method to encourage pupils to learn from each other and
gain interpersonal skills. According to Johnson and Johnson (1995) co operative learning method have
proven effective in increasing motivation, self esteem and problem solving. Thus, to enhance inter
dependency, the class was divided into two main groups of fours and were further divided into pairs,
to finish their task. According to Mercer (1985) effective communication is as cognitive and social
development are intertwined,

she got closer, Elizabeth realised that mansion was a more correct way to describe it. Once one got

Auntie Cockles gave Elizabeth a grand welcome, and sat her down by the kitchen fire and told her all
the latest news of the orphanage. What interested Elizabeth most was the appearance of a new

arrival. And now dear, it is time for bed. Charlotte will show you up to your dormitory, won t you
Charlotte? smiled Auntie Cockles, before giving Charlotte such a stare, that she at once stood up and
began to lead the way. During the next weeks, Elizabeth was plagued by the memories of her aunt s
face as she spoke of the missing girls, and told her friends of her suspicions, and they told her that the
cellar was supposedly haunted, and dared her to go down and talk to the ghost, or whatever was down
there. Not being one to ever back out of a dare, Elizabeth took her candle and crept down to the cellar
that night. As she opened the door, a horrible smell met her nostrils, and she recoiled from the stench,
and, breathing through her mouth, quietly stepped from step to step. As she reached the bottom, the
flame from her candle illuminated the stinking cellar. At first, she could not make out anything, but as
her eyes became accustomed to the dark, she found four bodies, all wrapped up in cloth except the
feet. Those feet were enough to put almost anyone off, but as Elizabeth could not see them properly,
she ignored them, and with what was either immense

  • 2. The Discovery of Antibiotics The discovery of antibiotics in the 20th century was a major advancement in medicine. At the time of the discovery, war was taking place, which resulted in a plethora of infected wounds. Antibiotics can be described as a use, laboratory effect, or an action of a chemical compound (Clardy et al). Selman Waksman first used the term in 1941 when describing the small molecules made by microorganisms that prevent the growth of other microorganisms (Clardy et al). Antibiotics helped control the infection which allowed many who were injured a second chance to live. The antibiotic that was first discovered and used to cure war infections was penicillin. Since the discovery of antibiotics, controlling infections and diseases became easier, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The peptidoglycan coat in bacterial cells is formed by a crystal lattice structure that forms linear chains from a pair of alternating amino acids. The cross linking of peptidoglycan strands by the transpeptidase enzyme forms an uneven cell wall. Antibiotics, notably penicillin, interfere with this cross linking, which destroys the bacteria cell wall. More specifically, antibiotics work by attaching to specific sites on the ribosome, which affects with the bacteria s function during protein synthesis. The small or 30S ribosomal subunit has binding sites for tRNA molecules. These sites are known as the aminoacyl (A), peptidyl (P), and exit (E) sites. The process known as decoding oversees base pairing between the codon of mRNA and the anticodon of tRNA at the A site, allowing the 30S subunit to distinguish between the similarities of the tRNAs (Brodersen et al). Because most antibiotics bind to ribosomes, its main target is the rRNA, which results in most of the binding sites being near the mRNA and the tRNA binding sites, or at sites that undergo structural rearrangements during the processes of decoding or translocation (Dallas et al). In all, the antibiotic prevents the bacterium from creating its cell wall, which essentially kills the bacterium (Brodersen et al). The appearance and spreading of antibiotic resistant pathogens have given rise to many studies involving the genetic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Similarities and Differences between Buddhism, Jainism... Upon reading about the historical and religious background of Ancient India, one can clearly assume that the country was strongly influenced by three main religious teachings: Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism. These three sects in religious thinking have many similarities as all recognize the life cycle and the need of liberation, they worship one central deity that used to be a human who gained enlightenment and they all recognize the existence of the eternal soul and after death re incarnation. However, they also share a lot of differences that mark the underlying principles of practicing them. I will identify the scope of differences and similarities in these ancient religions in an attempt to understand why each attracted followers, why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Buddhism teaches people to live honorably and follow the Eightfold Path to reach release from the state of infinite re incarnation and reach nirvana, which means the end of the life cycle by living a life full of dignity and refuse from all other attachments causing their desires and strifes McKay et al., 2008) Jainism treats the issue of life and death in a very similar way. Followers believe that living a non violent life and respecting the sacred life existing around people (according to the Jains, everything in the world, including the inanimate, has a soul) may release the human being from the vicious circle of re incarnation. Jains also recognize the eternal nature of the human soul and believe it exists as enmeshed in the human s or object s body during a whole life. However, Jainism assumes that the soul parts from the body when it does to be re incarnated into something (or somebody) else, which means Jains do not recognize the unity of soul and body. This is actually the principle of all three religions they pose little value to the human life because all followers believe that the soul will still remain in the human world, but will only change its appearance once re incarnated into some other being or object. (McKay et al., 2008) Hinduism fully shares the idea of the life cycle and re incarnation, as all were essentially derived from the Brahman tradition. People should spend their life in search of unity with Brahman, following the teaching of Vedas and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Impressionism Research Paper Behind every piece of artwork is a story. The era of impressionism stands out because of its technique and use of vibrant color. I enjoy the soft look and feel the paintings usually have which is why I have decided to discuss this artistic movement in my paper. Furthermore I will touch upon the birth of impressionism and its contributors. Since the 18th century, paintings were classified by the genre they fit in. History paintings were viewed to be superior, followed by portraits, landscape, genre scenes, and still life. The upcoming style to break this hierarchy would be Impressionism. Impressionism started around 1869 and would soon birth a variety of incredible artists still acknowledged today. Now let s start to break down what defines this new style called impressionism. The term Impressionism developed from a scolding critique by Lewis Lee rod where he described a painting as just a minor impression. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A master at depicting facial expressions, Renoir tended to paint youthful portraits of his associates, most of whom were artists and writers. His early art works captured real life scenarios and his themes were always pleasant and non serious.Taking enormous pleasure in his craft, Renoir drew inspiration from a variety of sources and experimented with new techniques all throughout his vocation. • 7. Was Unrestricted Submarine Warfare By Germany The... A: Identification and Evaluation of Sources To what extent was unrestricted submarine warfare by Germany the principle reason for United States involvement in the First World War? Germany was the main culprit of using submarines in order to threaten ships of other countries and their main target Great Britain. In 1915 when Germany released a policy called Unrestricted submarine warfare , this would give Germany the right to attack ships that would cross the war zone. This would later on lead to attacks that would kill many from neutral countries and this would later on lead to the Declaration of War on Germany by the United States. Learning more about this topic would give the opportunity to understand why the United States joined the First World War and how this affected the United States later on. Published in 1918, German Submarine Warfare; a Study of Its Methods and Spirit serves as an analysis of how the German Warfare affected the War and it explains the relationships between Germany and the United States. While the perspective of this book is from an American Author, Wesley Frost, who served as a coordinator for relief operations for the survivors of the Lusitania attack this book tackles not only the feelings of Allied countries but also of how Germany felt and what were their motives. Raphael created The Marriage of the Virgin before he was even 21 years old, and he was still Perugino s apprentice. Even then, Raphael had a great understanding of depth and perspective, which he shows well in The Marriage of the Virgin. In that piece, the background is beautifully drawn, and although the background stands out, you can still notice the people in the foreground without being distracted by the background. These people are shown having emotions, and instead of being motionless, some characters are making very noticeable actions and a lot of movement, so the people do not appear lifeless. Instead, they appear sort of realistic. In 1504, Raphael moved to Florence. There, in Florence, some of the Italian Renaissance s biggest names lived and worked in Florence. In Florence, Raphael studied Michelangelo s use of anatomy and Leonardo da Vinci s use of light and shadow. He met such big names in Florence such as Michelangelo, Leonardo, and Fra Bartolommeo, who was another painter that did such works as The Holy Family. It was in Florence that Raphael made a name for himself as an artist. One style of painting Raphael favored all throughout his career was that of creating Madonnas over his short life; those are what made Raphael famous in Florence. The way Raphael created his Madonnas, Madonna meaning Mary, the mother of Jesus, portray Mary as a loving, caring human woman. Many other artists before Raphael portrayed Mary as an ... When the brain feels that the body is being threatened or the brain feels pressure the brain causes the nervous system to release stress hormones and awakens or alarms the body to create stress. Another way to define stress is when you feel as though something or someone is making you feel like everything is very hard to overcome. The adrenal glands are located in the area where the kidneys are they are actually connected and after the Adrenal glands there is the adrenal cortex which is what makes the signal go to your brain to make you feel stressed. • 11. Compare And Contrast Mesopotamia And Indus River Valley... Ishaan Sarfani The two ancient river valley civilizations of Mesopotamia and the Indus River valley civilization, prior to 600 BCE had many things that remained stagnant in terms of their cultures but also they had just as many changes. Due to New advances and by influence from other civilizations such as the Indus over Mesopotamia and vice versa this increased the amount of change a lot. As these river valley civilizations grew and developed they began to gain influence from other surrounding ones. In both societies religion played a crucial role in politics. Although there is no solid evidence to state that there was a formal style of governance in the ancient Indus civilization it is theorized that there was because of the mass amounts of public works that there are present which are found in the ruins of their civilization. So it is believed that the Brahmins is had some role to play in government. As the story goes in India there was a god named purusha who sacrificed himself in order to cease the caste system. Purusha s mouth became the people of the top caste called the Brahmins. These people were the priests. Next came the warriors known as Kshatriyas. They made up purusha s arms. This system followed and continued as such all the way down to purushas legs where the artisans and craftsman were. • 14. The Palatine Chapel At Aachen The Palatine Chapel at Aachen, Germany is an example of Early Christian medieval architecture and one of the earliest examples of Carolingian architecture. The Palatine Chapel was contrasted between the years of 790 and 805 by architect Odo of Metz. Metz created the chapel for Emperor Charlemagne, who ruled during the second half of the eighth century. Charlemagne was a strong new force that emerged on the continent, and his ruling brought out new ideas, architecture and religion to the people under his ruling. It was under Charlemagne, that the new dynasty of Carolingian was created, and with his expansion, he brought this dynasty to many different places around the continent. Carolingian architecture is influenced by styles from past western capitals, this implies The Palatine Chapel as it is influenced from past architecture as well. He admired many other architectural pieces and used many other pieces as inspirations for one of the earliest examples of the Carolingian style. It is noted that the chapel was a strong way to represent the religion of Christianity, however it can also be said that the chapel was a way to represent Charlemagne and all the things he wished for the people under his rule. The making of the chapel in more ways is strongly connected to the Christian religion. Charlemagne was a very powerful man who first seized power when he was able to attain much of Western Europe from the years 768 to 814. He ruled over which would be modern day Germany, ... • 15. The Cult Of True Womanhood Essay The main topic of this chapter is stereotypes specifically about masculinity and femininity. A historical perspective called The Cult of True Womanhood, which meant a woman should be devout, unstained, obedient and well behaved. However, men could practically be the opposite of the women and yet be depicted as inferior to men. In addition, another historical view presented is Male Gender Role Identity in which a man could be prosperous by being tough, suppressing emotions, avoiding feminine actions and passions. Furthermore, a psychological test that was performed was the Attitude Interest Analysis Survey in which resulted in masculinity and femininity as complete opposites. For example, men are tough and independent, whereas women are weak and dependent. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My mother is a housewife that serves and attends my brother and father. Of course, with my character I refused. I would tell my mother he has hands, he can do it himself he needs to learn to look after himself that s unfair, I m not doing it. Soon after, my mom started to accept my perspective and my brother became more independent as he grew. I genuinely believe that perspective is crippling because it does not allow a person to have character, to look after themselves and to be able to survive on their own. Andrew Cherlin describes the current thoughts of marriage of how I view it marriage should be something as a last resort for adults. Reason being people should experience their life first beforehand, gained knowledge and skills that will help them out in a long run. Thus, when marriage is becoming an option, they have plenty of experience to take them further into adulthood. This was the problem I had with my sister getting married back in May. • 17. Why New Zealand Is Not A Classless Society Essay Social class, is a highly controversial topic and is one of the most debated topics amongst sociologists, with many different theorists claiming it entails different things. There has been much debate between sociologists whether or not New Zealand is a classless society, and I am here today to argue against this view, stating my reasons as to why New Zealand is not a classless society and in fact never has been. I will argue this by looking at the social stratification of New Zealand throughout time, dating back to Traditional Maori in the early nineteenth century, through to the contemporary society we see today. In order to argue this point, it is first necessary to define what class is. Class refers to a form of stratification: the process by which human society rank and evaluate themselves into a hierarchical order (Spoonley et al. 1990) and according to Marxist theory, exists in two distinctive categories: the bourgeoisie: those who own and control production and the proletariat: the working class that provides the labour for production (McLennan, Ryan and Spoonley, 2004). Weber s analysis of class is similar to Marx s, but in contrast he discusses class in the context of social stratification more generally. Weber s sociological perspective puts emphasis on status and power rather than materialism, arguing class arose through competition for economic resources, social prestige and political influence (Richard Bedggood, 1980) At a more basic level when sociologists ... • 18. Pablo Picasso Guernica Essay Guernica is another perfect example of Picasso exhibiting history in his work. The mural sized oil painting on canvas was painted by Pablo Picasso in 1937. It is painted in a palette of grey, black and white and is regarded by many as modern art s most powerful antiwar statement . The mural exhibits suffering people and animals wrenched by violence and chaos. A gored horse, a bull and flames are prominent features of the artwork. Guernica displays the tragedies of war and the suffering it imposes on individuals, specifically innocent civilians. The lack of colour intensifies the chaos and the tragedy. Guernica is a town in the province of Biscay in Basque Country. On Monday 26th April 1937, warplanes of the German Condor Legion bombed Guernica for two hours. At the time. The rampaging bull is thought to represent the onslaught of Fascism. Picasso said the bull meant brutality and darkness while the horse represented the people of Guernica. We seem to think we are invincible and that our parents know absolutely nothing. January 1st of 2015, I learned that maybe, just maybe, our parents are actually looking out for us. We should probably listen to them when they tell us to not ride a golf cart at 1 A.M. on a freezing cold winter night. My day started off just as it usually does, I wake up and go straight to the kitchen for my morning cup of hot chocolate. I knew that this day was going to be fun, it was New Year s eve. My grandparents were having a family party that night. I have a very close relationship with all of my family so seeing everyone together again was extremely exciting. We got to my grandparents house around 7 P.M. Most of my family arrived earlier so, I went off to see what my cousins were doing. I found them in the backyard driving rampant on my grandfather s new golf cart. I probably should have taken this as a sign to not get on, but everyone else was doing it so I decided I should just do it too. Our parents eventually told us it was getting too late and to come inside. After watching the ball drop, My cousins and I decided to take my grandfather s golf cart for one more ride. Our parents told us that it was too late, too cold, and we shouldn t be going. We had the bright idea to go against what our parents had just told us and told them we were going outside to play basketball. We got outside to find that the keys were still in the ignition from the excitement we experienced earlier that day. My cousins, Blake and Hannah, got in the front seat while I got in the backseat along with my other cousin Hillary. We started our ride off with a trip down the driveway and quickly picked up speed, way faster than we expected. As we got towards the end of the driveway, Blake decided it would be a good idea to make a sharp left turn. This caused the golf cart to flip. As we were flipping, I could see Blake and Hillary jump off while Hannah and I were somehow thrown under the golf cart. Isolation In Ender s Game, By Orson Scott Card In the novel Ender s Game, Orson Scott Card illustrates how the adults test Ender s intelligence and ingenuity through isolation and with no morality. Ender is born into a family where he is an outcast known as a third. In this military paradigm, a third born child is looked upon in disgust and hatred. This means that Ender is isolated even before he is brought into the world. This is one of the many elements of isolation Card uses to bring the reader further into Ender s struggle throughout the story. He has created a paradigm in which the adults use no morality while training Ender. The adults manipulate him without any compassion because that is how they are supposed to train the students. Isolation is one of the most powerful tools that the adults use for Ender s improvement. How Does Rap Music Affect Society American Rappers have been perceived as artists who cannot do any good to society, because of their lyrics or the music videos that they make, but that is only one small group of individual rappers. Generalizing has never been a good thing, and that is exactly what these people do all the time putting all rappers in the same category. How can some people be so ignorant and not recognize the excellent music that has saved people from themselves? Out there right now there are a lot of rappers that are always making beautiful music and this type of rap music has been made since Hip Hop s beginnings. Making people believe that rap music is the worst thing that has ever happened just makes the society unknowledgeable and doesn t allow that the good rap music that has already inspired a lot of people to overcome their adversities reach and help even more people. Rap music has always been categorized like the music that makes youth act recklessly, and for that reason rappers are often seen as just as bad influence and nothing else. You want to make sure you never do a activity too advanced or not advanced enough with your students. An example of a cooperative learning activity in an elementary setting could be the Scooter Scramble . The scooter scramble is best used with grades K 2. In the scooter scramble you will need one scooter per student, four different colored pinnies, four containers marked with the colored pinnie, and any type of equipment that can be carried on a scooter for example a bean bag, balls, etc., and as many items as possible. In this activity you need to explain to the students how working together is extremely important in team sports. Once all the equipment is out and scattered across the gym you will split your class into 4 groups and the students will make a goal of how many items they can collect and bring to the garbage cans. The challenge in this activity is for the students to figure out how to carry the equipment along with scrambling around on their scooter. Once all the equipment is picked up, the students can check who has the most items in the garage cans and whoever has the most wins. Once the first task is completed you can make variations. Variations that can be made are changing the teams, specifying that you can only collect a certain object on the floor and you have to avoid all the others while on the ... The implications of the word are many, and are tied to various connotations. Some people, Westerners in particular, may actually shun the traditional, as they feel that it implies a resistance to modernity. This view is incorrect, and there exists an ethnocentric double standard when Westerners consider their tradition versus African tradition. Others focus on tradition as that which has always been done, for whatever reason, and that it must be continued to maintain the community, a universal balance, a relationship with the gods, or some other goal. Alan Merriam?s description of the Western perception of tradition seems to encapsulate the essence of Western life. Rather than taking time to enjoy the moment and the current situation, or to relish the beauty of the arts, there is always an agenda, a purpose, a final goal. There seems to be no such idea of the present as a time in which to take a break and relax. Instead of ?projecting our future out in front of us as a possible horizon of action, thus throwing a perspective on our past as presently experienced,? Westerners experience the present as that which is already past, and choose to focus on the future.i The future represents a time when everything can be faster, better, stronger, more efficient, more high tech, in other words, continually moving away from tradition, when it is defined as the old. In a strange way, this goal oriented way of experiencing life is itself becoming tradition. With industrialization and modernization, the desire for all aspects of life to be superlative ... According to the Talmud, all of Israel has a share in the World to Come, but it is not equal. A righteous person will have a greater share than that of an ordinary person. The place of spiritual reward for the righteous is known as Gan Eden, the Garden of Eden. This is not the same garden in which Adam and Eve lived. The Garden of Eden is a spiritual utopia in which only the righteous directly go to. An average person would first go to a place of punishment and/or purification, known as Gehinnom or She ol. Imagine, the year is 2150 and a student is sitting at her desk looking within at latest technology, she thinks about lost poets that history books have shunned for the significance of more famous poets. As a child in modern society, the importance of lesser known poets, such as Thomas Traherne and George Herbert, are considered valuable for their philosophical influence in poetry. Over the course of time literature has become a melting pot of ideas borrowed from other poets and literary works, which are coagulated into one another to make a new idea. People in modern society need to understand the importance of remembrance in the similarities in the backgrounds, metaphysical influences, and written works of Thomas Traherne and George Herbert. It will further identify my strengths and weaknesses through my peer assessment and reflect on the teaching and learning theories, methods and strategies that are linked and practiced in my micro teach. According to the teachers standards (DfE, 2012) teachers make the education of their learners their first concern, keep their knowledge up to date and are self critical. Therefore, this reflection practice will guide me towards the improvement on my lesson planning strategies and delivery. In addition, it will also make an enormous difference in my teaching and learning practice which is vital for teacher training. One of the significant part of this course is micro teaching session, in this session we are required to deliver fifteen minute planned lesson containing learning outcome.
