Resistors are used in electric circuits to oppose electric current and are measured in ohms. They have two main characteristics - resistance value and power dissipation capacity. Resistors come in various resistance values and tolerances, and are used for purposes like heating and current limiting. They can be fixed or variable, and fixed resistors include carbon composition, metalized, and wire wound types. Variable resistors have three leads - two fixed and one movable - to allow adjustment of resistance while connected to a circuit.

Lesson Contents:
A resistor is a passive two-terminal electrical component that implements electrical resistance as a
circuit element. Resistors act to reduce current flow, and, at the same time, act to lower voltage levels
within circuits. In electronic circuits, resistors are used to limit current flow, to adjust signal
levels, bias active elements, and terminate transmission lines among other uses.
The attached narrated power point presentation explains the constructional features of different types of resistors, their specifications and applications. The material will be useful for KTU first year B Tech students who prepare for the subject EST 130, Part B, Basic Electronics Engineering.
Voltage multipliers are AC-to-DC power conversion devices, comprised of diodes and capacitors, that produce a high potential DC voltage from a lower voltage AC source. Multipliers are made up of multiple stages. Each stage is comprised of one diode and one capacitor.
During the growth of a competitive global environment, there is considerable pressure on most organisations to make their operational, tactical, and strategic process more efficient and effective.
An information system (IS) is a group of components which can increase the competitiveness and gain better information for decision making. Consequently, many organisations decide to implement IS in order to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of their organisations
Information systems have become a major function area of business administration. The systems, nowadays, plays a vital role in the e-business and e-commerce operations, enterprise collaboration and management, and strategic success of the business
Introducing higher dielectric constant (k > 10) insulators [mainly transition metal (TM) oxides] is therefore indispensable for the 70 nm technology node and beyond
TM silicates such as HfSiOx have been preferred because they have better thermal stability compared to their oxides. The dielectric constant of TM silicates is less than TM oxides but higher than silicon oxide.
Because thought underlies many human actions and interactions, understanding its physical and metaphysical origins, processes, and effects has been a longstanding goal of many academic disciplines including artificial intelligence, biology, philosophy, psychology, and sociology.
Our whole world is a reflection of our thought.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

2. What is a resistance?
• The property of a substance, which opposes
the flow of an electric current through it is
called a resistance. Its is measured in ohms
and is represented by letter ‘R’.
3. Each resistor has two main
characteristics.
• 1) Its resistance value in ohms and
• 2) its power dissipating capacity in watts
4. • Resistors are employed for many purposes such as
electric heaters, telephone equipments, electric and
electronic circuit elements and in current limiting
devices. As resistors are used in wide applications
there values like power rating, R value, tolerance
etc vary. Resistors of resistance value ranging
from .1ohms to many mega ohms are
manufactured. Acceptable tolerance levels range
from +/- 20% to as low as +/-.001%. The power
rating may be as low as 1/10 watts and can be in
several hundred watts. These all vary in range and
type of application a particular resistor is used.
5. • Classification of Resistors:
• From operating conditions
point of view, resistors can be
classified into two.
1) Fixed resistors
7. Fixed resistors are further
classified into
• a) Carbon composition type resistors
• b) Metalized type resistors
• c) Wire wound type resistors
8. a) Carbon composition type resistors
• This is the most common type of low
wattage resistor. The resistive material is
of carbon-clay composition and the leads
are made of tinned copper. These resistors
are cheap and reliable and stability is
high.
9. b)Wire wound resistors
• These resistors are a length of wire wound an
insulating cylindrical core. Usually wires of
material such as constantan (60% copper and
40% nickel) and manganin which have high
resistivity`s and low temperature coefficients
are employed. The completed wire wound
resistor is coated with an insulating material
such as baked enamel
10. c) Metalized resistors
• It is constructed using film deposition
techniques of depositing a thick film of
resistive material onto an insulating
substrate. Only approximate values of
resistance can be had by this method.
11. 2) Variable resistors
• For circuits requiring a resistance that can
be adjusted while it remains connected in
the circuit(for eg: volume control on
radio), variable resistors are required.
They usually have 3 lead two fixed and
one movable.
