Market Potential Indicator
Market Potential Indicator
Purpose of Indicator
As the name states, it is a measure of the market potential of a country using several dimensions,
ratings, indexes and percentages. Currently, emerging economies comprise more than half of the world
s population, account for a large share of world output and have very high growth rates, which mean
an enormous market potential. With global marketing becoming more important, companies and
marketers are attempting to determine which international markets they would like to penetrate and
the appropriate marketing strategy.
Using the market potential indicator countries are distinguished by the recent progress they have made
in economic liberalization using eight dimensions. Each dimension is ... Show more content on

agricultural exports dropped from 31% to 14% and on industrial products from 25% to 9%.
‱ They pursued policies to foster the rapid development of foreign invested factories, which assemble
imported components into consumer goods for export, and liberalizing trading rights. China is now

Examples Of Internal Conflict In The Blind Side
A. Michael Oher is a complex character, this is mostly due to the fact that he speaks very little, and so
in order to understand him better we must look at his actions. In the movie After watching the movie
The Blind Side it is easy for one to see that at the beginning of the film Michael struggles with internal
conflict, specifically about school and his living arrangement with the Touy family. The first time we
see Michael really open up about his internal conflicts is when we hear his poem entitled White Walls
, in this poem Michael talks about how he does not want to listen to the teachers and that he feels out
of place in this new school. With the Touy s Michael also feels out of place, this is shown the first
night he stays with them, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Equality can be defined as equal opportunity for all, but more often than not there are people in life
who have more or less opportunities than others. Michael comes from a different culture than the Touy
s, as he was raised in the projects where there is more gang violence, more poverty, and a lower
standard of education. The Touy s on the other hand live in what can be considered the wealthy part of
town, they live in a big home and the children attend a high class private school. To each of them the
way they live is their cultural norm, but to the other it s unconventional. Michael was raised at a
disadvantage compared to the Touy s because of the culture he grew up in. One key moment we find
out the Michael has a clear disadvantage is when we find out that all of his past teachers have just
given him passing grades, so that they did not have to deal with him anymore, if he had the same
cultural background as the Touy s, or even just gone to better school s there would have been someone
to help him rather than just pass him along to the next person. Michael did not grow up with the same
opportunities as the Touy s or even as the rest of the kids at his new school, because of the cultural
differences in their

Bolshevik Collectivism In Mayakovsky
A work of art is so often, from its inception, a personal creation; and something which is created from
the artist s perception often inevitably becomes a meditation on his inescapable selfhood. Following
the revolution, Russia was marked by a burgeoning utilitarian ideal and a collectivism which
proclaimed, one for all. The 1920s Bolshevik leadership sought to reemploy the avant garde artists
with the aims of instilling the masses with a proletarian mentality. A conflict between the individual
identity and the Bolshevik collectivism threatened to compromise the artist s values and unique
aesthetic aims.
A prime example of this internal discord is illustrated in the works of Mayakovsky. At the outset of
post revolutionary Russia, the poet voices his annoyance at having to make propagandistic posters in
his 1920 poem An Extraordinary Adventure . Ultimately, however, he discovers the merits of this
seemingly uninspiring task by the end of the poem.
These agitprop posters were one of the most ubiquitous resources the government used to educate and
culture the masses. At this point the Bolsheviks were convinced that the values inherent in science and
the arts were congenial to the principles of socialism. Culture was to be a helpmate in the building of
socialism (Kenez, 65). The posters were extremely effective, for they spoke even to the illiterate. Their
content educated, while their modernist style cultured.
Several years later, however, Mayakovsky seems to revert

The History and Production of Yummy Jelly Beans Essay
Jelly Beans
Around the world small, sweet, sugar filled candies bring enjoyment to those who consume them.
What are these tiny, pleasure inducing sweets? The answer is jelly beans. Jelly beans are produced in
numerous varieties and flavors; therefore, their story is just as diverse and colorful as they are.
The History of Jelly Beans Initially, the first jelly bean was created in the early 1800s by an unknown
American candy maker. However, one can trace back the beginnings of their production process to
17th century France. The French made Jordan Almonds, sugar glazed almonds, by a process called
panning, which is now used to make the hard sugar coating on jelly beans. Panning is the rocking of a
desired item in a container filled with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then the trays are coated with a light layer of cornstarch, which is then left to dry overnight. The next
day, the cornstarch layer is removed, the middles are put through a moisture steam bath, and are
finally sprayed with sugar and left to sit for another twenty four to forty eight hours. Next, is the
panning process where the centers of the bean are set in a rotating drum, called an engrossing pan.
While the center is rotating, sugar is added gradually to build the hard outer shell. During this time,
colors and flavors are also added to get the unique look and taste of the bean. Once finished,
confectioner s glaze is added to give the beans a shiny, smooth, and silky appearance. After the beans
have been polished (a process that can take two to four days) they are ready to be shipped to
companies and stores. Overall, the whole process can take between seven to twenty one days
depending on the manufacturer. Consumers can find jelly beans in most candy shops, mini marts, and
grocery stores. If interested in specifically buying Jelly Belly brand, consumers can go to the Jelly
Belly website to make their specialized orders.
Flavors To begin with, there were only a few flavors of jelly beans; however, today there are many
brands all with their own unique renditions on numerous flavors. The Jelly Belly Company is known
for its wide and unusual range of flavors. Their most popular has changed throughout the years, but

The Importance Of A Training Program For An Obstacle Race
If you re thinking about your first obstacle race like the Tough Mudder or the Spartan Race, you know
it ll involve a unique training program. Even if you re a fit athlete, you need to prepare yourself for the
challenges, which are unlike other types of races.
First, think about the kind of race you ll be doing. There will be mud, cold water as well as chances
for climbing, crawling and jumping. It s a strain on the body and the mind. It ll test your endurance
and your mental fortitude. Most of those reasons are why people want to participate in an obstacle
race, but that means it takes a different kind of workout routine and training in the weeks before the
race. You can t expect to jump into the course and complete it because you ve been running regular
races.
The most fit athlete should still allow 4 to 6 weeks of training before jumping into their first obstacle
course race.
Endurance Building
Whether you re a runner or not, you should be building up your endurance before the race. Instead of
running a few miles each day on a treadmill, you ll need to challenge yourself to uneven terrain. It ll
create a fatigue, which you won t experience on a treadmill. Your aerobic endurance will be tested
during the race. It might seem like it ll be less work because you ll be running between obstacles, but
it s combined with other tasks, so it can still be a few miles of race.
Example Exercises: Non stop intervals on the treadmill Take the hill work

Pi Sigma Research Paper
Phi sigma sigma began when their founders went to the Dean of Women at Hunter College in New
York City with a plan. They wanted to begin a sorority that would be open to all women. On
November 26, 1913 Phi Sigma Sigma started. It was the first nonsectarian sorority, began under Fay
Chertkoff. Their Alpha Chapter was at Hunter College.
In 1913, in New York City, Phi Sigma Sigma was incorporated. Originally under Phi Sigma Omega,
their founders learned that another society were already using the name, so they chose the letters they
still use today. Their symbol is the sphinx, Shirley Cohen decided on this symbol because of the
mythological importance to women, and because it represented mystery and secrecy.

They also elected their first council, and elected their first grand archon. The council served for two
years until 1920.
Phi Mu began in 1852 at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. Their founders were Mary A. Lines,
Mary E. Daniels, and Martha B. Redding. It was at first called the Philomathean society. It was a
literary society and is the second oldest secret society of woman. In 1904 it became known as Phi Mu.
Phi Mu joined the NPC or National Panhellenic Conference in 1905, taking the letters Phi Mu. Beta
chapter was soon established in Hollins College in Hollins, Virginia. Alpha Delta Theta from
Transylvania University merged with Phi Mu in 1939.
Their colors are Rose and White. This choice was made when it was still known as the Philomathean
Society and was most likely made by the charter members. Their coat of arms was designed in 1904
by Annie L. Mallory, assisted by Louise Monning.
Their flower is the pink carnation. The pink carnation in the language of flowers refers to women s
love and sisterhood, Lillian Estes, Grand Historian 1907 1908, wrote that pink carnations are, and

The Island At The End Of The World Analysis
The Islands At The End of The World by Austin Aslan Love is a powerful drug. Love can compel a
person to do things one would never imagine doing such as the impossible. The Islands At the End of
The World, a book written by Austin Aslan demonstrates the incredible and unbelievable forces of
love. The story is narrated by one of the two protagonist named Leilani which is a name of Hawaiian
origin and stands for Flower of Heaven. Leilani is a sixteen year old girl who was born in California.
She lives in Hilo located in The Big Island called Hawaii, with her amazing family of five. The second
protagonist is Leilani s father, Mike, with whom she shares a very close and unbreakable bond. Leilani
and her father, who is white, are considered outsiders. Throughout the story Leilani struggles with the
idea of being epileptic, half white, and half Hawaiian. The major conflict that the two protagonist must
overcome is finding a way back home while staying alive. After technology begins to fail all forms of
transportation are ceased. Leilani and her father are stranded on an island with no possible way out.

Women s Rights For Women In The Russian Revolution
Before the times of the revolution, women in Russia had no say about their lives. They were forced to
tend to the home their husband provided for them, and many grew up illiterate. The homes they were
forced to tend to were full of aggression and constant abuse from their husband or father; male
dominance in Russia thrived before the revolution. Women in that time were not emotionally strong
enough to take a stand for their equality. The thought of a woman working outside of their home
disgusted many men living during that time. The Russian Revolution created a gateway for women to
take an active role in a once anti women s rights society. When the revolution began on March 8,
1917, education in Russia became a new priority (Figes). Women living in poverty prior to the
revolution were given no opportunities to become educated. Only women with a wealthy husband
gained access to very limited schooling; those who did not marry rich were left with no access to
obtain an education (McElvanney). Often times at the age of ten or twelve, girls began working; they
were lucky to be exposed to one complete year of education (Frederiksen). A mere 13.1% of the
female population in Russia was considered literate prior to the revolution (Frederiksen). The
revolution allowed women to take a stand to their right to a proper education. Riots that formed during
the revolution paved a pathway for free education to become mandatory for all children. Along with
their children, women gained

The Physics Of Atomic Theory
Science would not be where it is today if not for those who have devoted a great deal of their life to
making new discoveries and figuring different aspects of the universe. Over 30 different scientists
have added on the development of atomic theory, and made science changing discoveries that are still
today quite impressive, even in comparison to modern day scientists. There are countless scientists
involved in the evolution of atomic theory, but less than 50 have majorly impacted the way we view
atomic theory today.
Discovery and experimentation on the atom first began in the Greek Era with scientists as old as
Democritus and Aristotle. Democritus was believed to be the first person to touch on the atomic
theory. He stated that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also published a table of atomic weights. In 1869, Dmitri Mendeleev created one of the most
important tables in the history atomic development. He arranged the atoms into 7 groups with similar
properties, and published his first periodic table of elements. Not only did it organize things
tremendously, but also allowed Mendeleev to predict new elements. After him in 1873, came James
Clerk Maxwell who proposed that electric and magnetic fields filled the void. Six years later in 1879,
Sir William Crookes made an enormous discovery... He studies the effects of sending and electric
current through a gas in a sealed tube. This electrode was called a cathode and the particles were
cathode rays. He discovered that cathode rays travel in straight lines from the cathode; cause glass to
fluoresce; are deflected by electric fields and magnets to suggest a possible negative charge; cause
pinwheels in their path to spin showing they have mass. In 1896 while studying the effect of x rays on
photographic film, Henri Becquerel discovered some chemicals spontaneously decompose and give
off very penetrating rays. He exposed potassium uranyl sulfate to sunlight, believing that uranium
absorbed the sun s energy and emitted it as x rays. This hypothesis was considered to be a failure
because it was overcast in Paris, however Becquerel developed his plates anyways and the images
were still clear! This proved

Stereotypes In Billy Elliot
In the film Billy Elliot directed by Stephen Daldry, Michael is a thought provoking character because
he is portrayed as both gay and a cross dresser. With the film being set during the 1984 1985 coal
miners strike. Michael lives in Everington, Durham, a small town in north eastern England where you
re either a straight girl or a straight man and the community is very black and white and there is no
grey area in between area for people like Michael.
In the film Billy Elliot Michael is seen to be interested in cross dressing and frequently dresses up in
his sister s dresses and puts on his mother s makeup (most notably her lipstick). The long shot of him

Along with the struggles of growing up in a community where he doesn t fit the expected norm for
male behaviour, Michael has an alcoholic and abusive father who believes heavily in the gender
stereotypes perpetuated throughout the film and disapproves heavily of Michael s behaviour. All this
strain on Michael makes it hard for him to have a normal childhood as he struggles with the
challenges of growing up in a community where you don t fit the mold of what a man should be like.
This is shown in the scene when he and Billy are wearing tutus and dancing in the boxing hall and get
caught by two angry parents who then proceed to call them both poofs and sissies for dancing
together. Michael is also seen at the end of the film to have his male partner sitting next to him. This
relates to the audience because at some point in their life everyone feels like they don t fit in with the
majority of their community, whether it is a small difference or a large one people are all unique but
sometimes can feel like they are the only one fighting against the world. In Michael s case he has to
grow up hiding his true self and not being able to express his feelings as the community he lives in is
heavily embedded in traditional gender roles and stereotypes and does not accept people who don t fit
within the black and white

on three readings, these questions will be answered:
1. What are the personal qualities of Cyrus and T ai tsung? What is it about these personal qualities
that made them successful rulers?
2. How does Machiavelli portray the Duke of Valentine and Agathocles? Does he consider them good
or bad rulers? Why?

Consequently it was said that Cyrus got the best officers for any kind of job (Xenophon, 41). He was

Essay On Timers
The use of counters and timers in PLCs has helped increase the efficiency of manufacturing and been
of great importance. Timers and counters have been used outside plcs for a long time have shown
themselves to be of great help. There use inside plcs has helped reduce space and the many of the
complications of hardwiring. First, let s start out with the Ton timer. Ton timers were first used in plcs
in the slc 500s. For all timers, there are three bits. The enabled bit, timer timing bit, and the done bit.
On a Ton timer, the enable bit activated when there is a path of true conditions energizing the timer.
The timer timing bit is activated when the timer is energized, and the timer is timing up to the preset.
Lastly, the done bit energizes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What has changed greatly is when the timer timing and down bits energize and de energize. The timer
timing bit for an TOF timer energizes when the timer loses a path of true conditions. This can be
useful for if this timer is put in parallel with a load and you want a device to run for a set amount of
time after the load has de energized. With there use the allow for the simplifying of a program and
more ease of understanding. Furthermore, the done bit energizes as soon as the timer energizes. When
the timers accumulative value reaches its preset the done bit de energizes opposite of the TON and the
RTO. Next, there are counters and their functions. There are two types of counters the count up and
the count down. Like timers, they have a done bit. It works exactly the same as it did when used in
timers. Unlike timers though counters also have count up and count down bits. When the counter is
energized, depending on which counter is being activated, the counter will add or deduct one number
from the accumulative value. It will only add one number for each false to true transition. Count up
timers can be used to reach a specific amount of material or objects. Using a count down and a count
up timer together in a program with the same address is very useful. One counter will count during a
certain set of conditions up and the other down with its

Balcony Scnece in William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet
The balcony scene in and Romeo and Juliet is the most iconic and recognised scene, because it
represents young love, and symbolises the power of youth, as Romeo and Juliet try to put right the
mistakes of their elders. The scene shows how their love over comes their difficulties. Romeo wooing
Juliet at the balcony is a ideal romantic situation, as it is still relevant today. There is also a little
sexual tension between them.
The balcony scene is very simple but effective. There are only two characters, and the nurse s voice,

Even though both their families are at war, it does not mean that, that should get in the way of their

The 16th century scene is still relevant today as it was then. The Romeo and Juliet situation n could be
created by divided society e.g. people from opposite sides of a war, falling in love, for example
Northern Ireland or Israel.
There is a sense of physical longing between the characters in the scene. Romeo and Juliet long for
each other, there is a sexual tension running through the scene. This shown in their vows to each other:
such as when Romeo asks he: What shall I swear by? And she replies: Do not swear at all; or, if
though wilt, swear by thy gracious self. Swearing by yourself was meant Juliet trusted Romeo very
much. The vow guaranteed that they would both see each other again. Romeo s observation: O that I
were a glove upon that Hand, That I might touch that cheek, shows Romeo s physical longing for
Juliet. And his demand at the end of the scene: O, wilt though leave me so unsatisfied? followed by
her reply: What satisfaction canst though have to night? This is another example of the couple s sexual
tension.

My proposal to revitalize the block of abandoned houses at 8 20 Oakmount Road, 1834 1844 Bloor

friendly and where people can come buy fresh produce, learn about eco friendliness, admire the plants

This space could do so much for the community, instead of having a block of houses that benefit no
one. Here is a little history of the area of the houses. I was unable to find physical proof or any source
to back this statement up but, according to Mrs. Zubkewych, her 102 year old neighbor that passed

Mathematical Theory Of Mathematics And Mathematics
In Mathematics, it is rare that a new branch of mathematics is introduced. That means that even
branches of math that have been around for hundreds of years are still technically new, or at least
relatively new. One such branch of mathematics is probability. Probability is only three hundred to
four hundred years old, so it easily falls into this category when compared to branches of mathematics
such as Geometry which dates back all the way to ancient Egypt in around 2900 BC, when it first
became important when an Egyptian pharaoh wanted to tax farmers who raised crops along the Nile
River. To compute the correct amount of tax, the pharaoh s agents had to be able to measure the
amount of land being cultivated. Later it was used to build the pyramids.
Probability s beginning happened because of recreational circumstances. A gambler s dispute in 1654
led to the creation of the mathematical theory of probability by two famous French mathematicians,
Blaise Pascal and Pierre de Fermat. Antoine Gombaud, Chevalier de Méré, a French nobleman with an
interest in gaming and gambling questions, called Pascal s attention to an apparent contradiction
concerning a popular dice game. The game consisted in throwing a pair of dice 24 times; the problem
was to decide whether or not to bet even money on the occurrence of at least one double six during the
24 throws. A seemingly well established gambling rule led de Méré to believe that betting on a double
six in 24 throws would

Zone Of Proximal Development Essay
Zone of proximal development and Scaffolding learning
The main contents of sociocultural theory include: mediation, zone of proximal development, private
and inner speech as well as activity theory. And the zone of proximal development(ZPD) which was
first put forward by Lev Vygotsky was considered as an another major concept in this theory. It is
actually the gap between actual competence level (what problem level a child is able to independently
solve), and the potential development level (what problem level could a child solve with guidance
from a tutor). In Vygotsky s view, learning is an interactive, interpersonal activity. The learner can
continue expose to knowledge through the social interaction and internalize the external knowledge.
Based on the above ideological foundation, the concept of scaffolding Instruction was put forward.
Cognitive development in the zone of proximal development stresses the role of a social partner of the
student (a teacher or a more skilled person). The instructor becomes a supportive tool for the student
to set up their own structure of knowledge by instructive language. And the knowledge of language in

some experiments were lack of long term study. The last thing, the sociocultural theory was rarely

Analysis Of The Poem Snake
Upon reading and reflecting on the poem Snake by D.H. Lawrence, I couldn t help but feel like the
poem hearkens back to Emily Dickinson s poems A Narrow Fellow in the Grass and even A Bird,
Came Down the Walk. Like Dickinson s poems there is a recognition of not only the beauty and
majesty that is in nature but also the danger that lurks in the unknown. Lawrence s Snake , like
Dickinson s poems, utilizes personification, not only to connect humankind to nature, but also to
elevate the serpent to an almost human level. I will focus on the poem Snake by D.H Lawrence and
explore the ways the speaker in the poem uses this personification, sound devices, allusion, language
and even structure to convey the speakers reverence and fear of nature, more specifically the snake or
subject in the natural realm. As Snake begins we are introduced to the speaker encountering this
element of the wild, the snake. Early in the poem, the language utilizes the use of sound devices that
not only immerse the reader in the scenario, but also the speaker at the level of the snake. Lines 4 13
simulate a snake s hiss by employing words beginning with S, such as strange scented shade (4), steps
(5), slackness soft (9), stone (8 9), and He sipped with his straight mouth/ Softly drank through his
straight gums, into his slack long body/ Silently (11 13). This poetic device is used later in the poem,
however it not only simulates the hiss, but also the slither, And slowly

Chronological Resumes
Resumes are important in telling a potential employees story in a condensed version of their
educational and employment history. Employers generally prefer single page resumes; however, often
a two page resume is acceptable (Cardon, 2013). Moreover, including too much information
contributes to confusion or jumbled messages and in contrast may actually take away from the
important qualifications and abilities that are displayed. According to Cardon (2013), chronological
resumes are the most common and are preferred 75% of the time. Accordingly, chronological resumes
are designed in reverse order with the most recent work history and education listed first (Gantner,
2010). Chronological resumes are beneficial in displaying a strong work history. Consequently, these
resumes are preferred when there are no gaps in one s work history. In addition, chronological
resumes are also best in displaying a young professional s education and skills (Cardon, 2013). Key

Importance is placed on drawing attention to key skills and qualifications that an employee possesses
(Gantner, 2010). Potential employees that have gaps in their work history use functional resumes to
showcase potential skills while relating experiences using those skills as an advantage in gaining
employment. According to Cardon (2013), professionals with more than 15 years of experience or
potential employees with little work experience benefit most by creating functional resumes.
Components of functional resumes are the name block, summary of qualifications or career summary,

employees with a vast amount of work experience, even individuals with key skills from school,
community, or volunteer activities may benefit from this resume

of gravel/sandy soils, full sun, arid conditions in course soil, disturbed areas, and is tolerant to nutrient
poor soils (Montana Weed Control Association (MTWEED), n.d.). The SKCP broke the river down
into three sections, all have the same spotted knapweed concerns and goals, but have slightly different
soil ecosystems. The first section starts at the headwaters and runs to Nye, MT (See Attachment 6)
about river mile 35; this stretch contains faster moving stretches of rapids, but also areas that are very
slow moving and slough. The higher river banks in the faster moving areas have rockier soil, and more
drastic soil erosion caused by spotted knapweed. The slow areas and sloughs, like near Lake Sioux
Charley (See Attachment 7), the largest moving slough, have moist, less rocky soil, and not as
conducive growing environment for spotted knapweed. This area is primarily back country, already
designated trails, and is deeply wooded in some areas, but is the least of the SKCP concern. The
second section runs from Nye, MT to the Rosebud River, about river mile 12. The calmer, clearer
water, with more gradual river banks, significantly more arid gravel bars, open sunny landscape, are
all prime growing areas for spotted knapweed and the highest area of concern. It is also considered
outstanding fly fishing waters, which creates more foot traffic on the river banks, creating more
disturbed areas. The last section, runs from Rosebud River to the Yellowstone River, river mile 0. This
section has significantly more rapids (famous area for whitewater rafting) and higher river banks, with
the largest amount of private property along the river. The soil in this section is rocky and has
primarily open sunny landscape, both are great growing environment for spotted knapweed. This area
also receives the water from the Rosebud River, creating a larger amount of

The Theme Of Perfection In The Birth-Mark By Nathaniel...
Hawthorne illustrates an awe inspiring example of how human imperfection is natural and the way we
are created is how we shall remain, perfectly imperfect. It is difficult not to consider the world today
and how much plastic surgeons profit and customers pay, just to reflect an ideal image. This story is
published in the eighteenth century, which depicts a mad scientist (Aylmer) who claims to have the
ability to create perfection in the imperfect, Godly creation of his wife (Georgiana). The marriage
union is without happiness because of a small birthmark on Georgiana s cheek, which Aylmer aspires
to eliminate with his impeccable scientific expertise. In his short story The Birth Mark, Nathaniel
Hawthorne illustrates how an obsession ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Georgiana s birth mark is also crimson, Hawthorne foreshadows the danger in relation to the
disappearance or elimination of the specific color. For Aylmer, the obsessive need to remove the
specifically colored mark ends the life of his wife; For Hawthorne and Sophia, the loss of the exact
color presents apprehension and the end of life as they know it.
When the desire for perfection becomes more important than life itself, this proves a greater flaw
within character. Aylmer has a dream of removing the mark, which leads to the death of Georgiana, his
wife. In Aylmer s mind, the mark represents his wife s liability to sin, sorrow, decay and death
(Hawthorne 341). For this reason, he feels the urge to remove it immediately. As time passes,
Georgiana begins to shudder at his gaze (341). She grows to hate the mark that she once felt brought
her beauty and charm. Georgiana s eagerness to eliminate the mark grows stronger than Aylmer s
because she yearns for him to look at her with adoration rather than disgust. The dream, which Aylmer
pays little mind, foreshadows the end result s reality. Aylmer does indeed kill his wife by removal of
the birth mark. He causes the mark to vanish, but as it fades, so does her life. In essence, the goal to
possess other worldly perfection is impossible and not human, in an attempt to create this type of
perfection, life can be

Praxis And Girls On The Run
Throughout this course, I have always come back to the same idea: praxis. It was a difficult concept
for me to initially understand. I blindly believed that those who are protesting and trying to bring
about change are already educated. I had a blanket understanding of the idea of praxis, but it was not
until we started the praxis assignment that it made sense. Going into it, I believed that what we were
doing was truly intersectional; after all, we were providing transportation so more young girls could
have access to Girls on the Run. But reflecting on my experience now that I have learned more about
intersectionality, I look at this experience as only a starting point. I can now reflect on the fact that the
program is only beginning to make efforts to become more intersectional and has a lot to improve
upon. Once I applied the concepts from class to the work I was doing, I finally understood what praxis
meant. I have learned that praxis is constantly evolving, and as it does, it is important to reevaluate the
initial objective and make efforts to improve and expand it. Low income families experience unique
challenges. They often do not have access to necessities, let alone their wants. Programs like Girls on
the Run are great and could really help these low income girls, but these are the girls who are likely
unable to participate in the program. Although the walking school bus is a step in the right direction, it

of students, leaned in to hear as the voices of the City Council members faded in and out of the
faltering sound system. The six City Council members and the mayor sat along a bench as if they were
the judges at a hearing. Because of the ongoing discussions and the crowd, I thought I had arrived a

Then another Council member would second the movement if they agreed. Following the movement
being seconded a vote would follow to confirm if the movement was confirmed or denied.
Several local business owners stood up throughout the meeting asking for variances in local laws for
construction on their buildings. One requested to not be required to add parking spaces despite the fact
that he was adding square footage to his restaurant. The Dahlonega City laws determine the number of
required parking spaces for a business by square footage. However what the business owner was
adding, an indoor stairway and a landing for the hostess to greet in, would not affect the number of
people that could be seated in the building. The council ultimately said that he could only put in half
the number of required spots. Another business owner stood and requested a similar variance in the
law but was adding office space to the rear of their building instead of a stairway and landing. Again
he wanted to not have to provide extra parking for the space since it was not going to be used
commercially, but because he mentioned a function that was not stated on the original business plan,
the request was tabled.
Following the portion of the meeting where the public could bring things to the table, the Council
continued with its agenda. Multiple departments came and gave reports on what they were doing and

Why Tattoos Should Be Allowed In The Military
Tattoos are a growing trend that continues to become more popular as the years go by. However, the
trend does not stop the rules and regulations that are set in the U.S. military. The paper examines the
reasons why tattoos should be allowed in the U.S. military. The history of tattoos date back to the
pyramid times and they have also been a longstanding tradition in the military. Tattoos are a form of
art, which express a significant meaning. The artwork reflects a positive image of individuality and
self expression for people. Tattoos are a lifelong commitment. People who view the art of tattoos as
trashy can be quick to judge others who have tattoos. However, it is impossible to know the true colors
of a person based on their tattoos. As long as the tattoos are not offensive to anyone, service members
should be allowed to have them in the U.S. military. Tattoo Policies in the U.S. Military It is inevitable
that tattoos are becoming more popular as time goes by. There are more people today with tattoos than
there were years ago. Before it was only common for bikers and servicemen to have tattoos. Now it is
one of the most cultural trends out there. Some call them trashy, rebellious, and unprofessional when
others would disagree stating that they are pieces of art and beautiful. There are troops that sacrifice
their lives for our country that have been involved in many combat operations that are denied re

The Importance Of Foreign Language In Schools
In the nineteenth century, the United States set the precedence for racism. While the problems may
appear consummated, the people of today know that is not totally the case. With the amount of cultural
presence continuously growing, the ubiquity of foreign language should be taken more seriously. One
reason to learn them [foreign languages] is because they are tickets to being able to participate in the
culture of the people who speak them, just by virtue of the fact that it is their code, begins McWhorter
of TED (McWhorter, 2016). Consequently, schools should offer foreign language classes sooner in a
child s life than freshman year of high school because this type of learning introduces them to cultural
differences, increases their learning abilities and helps them understand learning styles of varying
levels.
Throughout the years, U.S. citizens have viewed the United States as the dominant country. When
discussing the topic of languages, many are quick to reply with English, and some even fight for
countless hours over the legality of English becoming the universal language. However, while a large
amount of the people in the United States speak American English, the government cannot calibrate
the official language of the United States today (Constitution, 2017). Many people who speak a
second language also learn English, so they can cater to the needs of those in America. Now,
Mandarin Chinese is spoken by more people, but more Chinese people are learning English

A seemingly innocent family vacation can turn into a disaster if the members of the family only care

Grandmother, too consumed with her own opinions, fails to address the views, feelings and overall
well being of others. Her family is not much different in their self interested ways. This leads them

According to Freud, the unconscious [mind] continues to influence our behavior and experience, even
though we are unaware of these underlying influences (Cherry). So, because of this, he sacrifices
humanity to deal with the pain and thinks nothing of it. Another reason for killing his father could be
he was suffering from the Oedipal Complex. The Misfit says, God never made a finer woman than my
mother (O Connor). The Oedipal Complex would refer that the Misfit has, fallen in love with one
parent and developed hatred for the other (Gill). His desire for his mother drove him to eliminate his
father. Unlike the Grandmother, religion was not a factor for the Misfit. He thought God, shown

this one of the Misfit s greatest faults. To Summarize, the Misfit s experiences and religious disbelief

Relational Power Effect
Suppose you plan to customize a chocolate box for your significant other as a birthday gift, perhaps
with some rough ideas about the types of chocolate he/she likes. How much variety will you choose
for this assortment? If you happen to feel powerful or powerless when you make the choice, will your
desire for variety be affected by the incidental power feelings? By contrast, if you need to customize
the chocolate box for your family and friends instead of romantic partners, will your preference for
variety be also influenced by the power feelings?
Power defined as having control over resources and people has been found to influence consumer
choices made for self to a large extent (Fiske, 1993; Keltner, Gruenfeld, Anderson, 2003; Rucker
Galinsky, 2008; Torelli Shavitt, 2010; for a review, sees Rucker, Galinsky, Dubois, 2012). Yet, despite
power is relational in nature, considerably less is known about how power influences decisions made

My Personal Experience with iPod Touch
I have decided to write about the iPod Touch, a product I purchased last year when my old iPod died. I
had determined that I wanted to upgrade from the old product, and saw an opportunity to do so. I had
to put together a list of criteria, because the purchase decision was not entirely easy. The iPod Touch
has a fairly high price point, so I had to choose between a range of iPods and smartphones. The
criteria, in list form, included price, memory size, features, Wifi, phone capabilities, and operating
system.
I used a combination of talking to friends and Internet research to come to my purchase decision. It is
worth pointing out that at the beginning of the process, I had a top three list of desired qualities that
would change over the course of the research. At the outset, the first quality was memory size, since
my old iPod was a healthy 64gb. The second quality was price and the third was features. I felt that by
combining these three elements, I would be able to meet all of my needs. Not only did I want to
replace my old iPod, but I wanted better functionality, so I could do more and be more efficient.
My Internet research showed that smartphones double as mp3 players and many of them have a decent
amount of memory. This opened things up a bit. One option was that I could upgrade my phone.
Another reality that this research finding showed was that I did not have to buy an Apple product. My
first iPod of course was Apple, and I was happy with it, but there are

to them. This is unethical and very dangerous for the people. There also have been different guidelines
and codes for human experimentation, such as the Nuremberg Code and the Declaration of Helsinki.
An example of such unethical human experimentation is The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment. This
happened in Alabama and was performed by the U.S government in 1932. The men that were in the
trial were given free health care, meals and burial insurance. 399 men had syphilis beforehand and 201
did not. Funding was cut for the experiments but they still continued to study these men even though
the antibiotic penicillin had come out in 1947. They told the men that they had something called bad
blood and they refused to tell the men that they had syphilis. This trial was continued until 1972 when

The Global Positioning System (Gps)
Introduction:
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite based navigation system made up of a network of
24 satellites placed into orbit by the U.S. Department of Defense. GPS was originally intended for
military applications, but in the 1980s, the government made the system available for civilian use.
GPS works in any weather conditions, anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day. There are no
subscription fees or setup charges to use GPS.
The GPS is made up of three parts: satellites orbiting the Earth; control and monitoring stations on
Earth; and the GPS receivers owned by users. GPS satellites broadcast signals from space that are
picked up and identified by GPS receivers. Each GPS receiver then provides three dimensional ...

Essentially, the GPS receiver compares the time a signal was transmitted by a satellite with the time it
was received. The time difference tells the GPS receiver how far away the satellite is. Now, with
distance measurements from a few more satellites, the receiver can determine the user s position and
display it on the unit s electronic map. Figure: Working module.
A GPS receiver must be locked on to the signal of at least three satellites to calculate a 2D position
(latitude and longitude) and track movement. With four or more satellites in view, the receiver can
determine the user s 3D position (latitude, longitude and altitude). Once the user s position has been
determined, the GPS unit can calculate other information, such as speed, bearing, track, trip distance,
distance to destination, sunrise and sunset time and more.
When people talk about a GPS, they usually mean a GPS receiver. The Global Positioning System
(GPS) is actually a constellation of 27 Earth orbiting satellites (24 in operation and three extras in case
one fails). The U.S. military developed and implemented this satellite network as a military navigation
system, but soon opened it up to everybody else. Figure: NAVSTAR GPS satellite
Each of these 3,000 to 4,000 pound solar powered satellites circles the globe at about 12,000 miles
(19,300 km), making two complete rotations every day. The orbits are arranged so that at

The Magna Carta
Nathanael Sterner
Mr. Whitaker
HIST 102
November 22, 2017
The Signing of the Magna Carta Those in our country that teach about the United States government
will at one point bring up the signing of the Magna Carta as a pivotal point in the establishing the
principle of the government is accountable to the laws of the common man. Before this point the king
sat on high and dictated how people were to live there lives alongside the church while not being held
accountable to the laws that he made. This lead to great resentment when a king was seen as
tyrannical. So the Magna Carta or the Great Charter was created to help curb the King John II of
England when he wanted to continue the war with France, set boundaries on what the king could do
without the consent of the council , and bind the ruler of the land to his subjects in such a way that he
had to obey his own rules. In the time leading up to the signing of the Great Charter King John had
lost his holdings in France after several unsuccessful military endeavors. To help reclaim these
holdings King John demanded that his barons provide him with more men and money to take the land
back. However he did this without forewarning his barons about the increasing demand that he was
placing on taxes and levies. The barons then thought that they were being wronged by the feudal
system and that the king was not upholding his end of the deal. In addition to this when King John
could not get his money he cracked down on

special interest in integration and dealing with irregular immigration, through intensive partnerships

  • 3. Examples Of Internal Conflict In The Blind Side A. Michael Oher is a complex character, this is mostly due to the fact that he speaks very little, and so in order to understand him better we must look at his actions. In the movie After watching the movie The Blind Side it is easy for one to see that at the beginning of the film Michael struggles with internal conflict, specifically about school and his living arrangement with the Touy family. The first time we see Michael really open up about his internal conflicts is when we hear his poem entitled White Walls , in this poem Michael talks about how he does not want to listen to the teachers and that he feels out of place in this new school. With the Touy s Michael also feels out of place, this is shown the first night he stays with them, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Equality can be defined as equal opportunity for all, but more often than not there are people in life who have more or less opportunities than others. Michael comes from a different culture than the Touy s, as he was raised in the projects where there is more gang violence, more poverty, and a lower standard of education. The Touy s on the other hand live in what can be considered the wealthy part of town, they live in a big home and the children attend a high class private school. To each of them the way they live is their cultural norm, but to the other it s unconventional. Michael was raised at a disadvantage compared to the Touy s because of the culture he grew up in. One key moment we find out the Michael has a clear disadvantage is when we find out that all of his past teachers have just given him passing grades, so that they did not have to deal with him anymore, if he had the same cultural background as the Touy s, or even just gone to better school s there would have been someone to help him rather than just pass him along to the next person. Michael did not grow up with the same opportunities as the Touy s or even as the rest of the kids at his new school, because of the cultural differences in their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Bolshevik Collectivism In Mayakovsky A work of art is so often, from its inception, a personal creation; and something which is created from the artist s perception often inevitably becomes a meditation on his inescapable selfhood. Following the revolution, Russia was marked by a burgeoning utilitarian ideal and a collectivism which proclaimed, one for all. The 1920s Bolshevik leadership sought to reemploy the avant garde artists with the aims of instilling the masses with a proletarian mentality. A conflict between the individual identity and the Bolshevik collectivism threatened to compromise the artist s values and unique aesthetic aims. A prime example of this internal discord is illustrated in the works of Mayakovsky. At the outset of post revolutionary Russia, the poet voices his annoyance at having to make propagandistic posters in his 1920 poem An Extraordinary Adventure . Ultimately, however, he discovers the merits of this seemingly uninspiring task by the end of the poem. These agitprop posters were one of the most ubiquitous resources the government used to educate and culture the masses. At this point the Bolsheviks were convinced that the values inherent in science and the arts were congenial to the principles of socialism. Culture was to be a helpmate in the building of socialism (Kenez, 65). The posters were extremely effective, for they spoke even to the illiterate. Their content educated, while their modernist style cultured. Several years later, however, Mayakovsky seems to revert ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What are these tiny, pleasure inducing sweets? The answer is jelly beans. Jelly beans are produced in numerous varieties and flavors; therefore, their story is just as diverse and colorful as they are. The History of Jelly Beans Initially, the first jelly bean was created in the early 1800s by an unknown American candy maker. However, one can trace back the beginnings of their production process to 17th century France. The French made Jordan Almonds, sugar glazed almonds, by a process called panning, which is now used to make the hard sugar coating on jelly beans. The next day, the cornstarch layer is removed, the middles are put through a moisture steam bath, and are finally sprayed with sugar and left to sit for another twenty four to forty eight hours. Next, is the panning process where the centers of the bean are set in a rotating drum, called an engrossing pan. While the center is rotating, sugar is added gradually to build the hard outer shell. During this time, colors and flavors are also added to get the unique look and taste of the bean. Once finished, confectioner s glaze is added to give the beans a shiny, smooth, and silky appearance. After the beans have been polished (a process that can take two to four days) they are ready to be shipped to companies and stores. Overall, the whole process can take between seven to twenty one days depending on the manufacturer. Consumers can find jelly beans in most candy shops, mini marts, and grocery stores. If interested in specifically buying Jelly Belly brand, consumers can go to the Jelly Belly website to make their specialized orders. The Importance Of A Training Program For An Obstacle Race If you re thinking about your first obstacle race like the Tough Mudder or the Spartan Race, you know it ll involve a unique training program. Even if you re a fit athlete, you need to prepare yourself for the challenges, which are unlike other types of races. First, think about the kind of race you ll be doing. There will be mud, cold water as well as chances for climbing, crawling and jumping. It s a strain on the body and the mind. It ll test your endurance and your mental fortitude. Most of those reasons are why people want to participate in an obstacle race, but that means it takes a different kind of workout routine and training in the weeks before the race. You can t expect to jump into the course and complete it because you ve been running regular races. The most fit athlete should still allow 4 to 6 weeks of training before jumping into their first obstacle course race. Endurance Building Whether you re a runner or not, you should be building up your endurance before the race. Instead of running a few miles each day on a treadmill, you ll need to challenge yourself to uneven terrain. It ll create a fatigue, which you won t experience on a treadmill. Your aerobic endurance will be tested during the race. It might seem like it ll be less work because you ll be running between obstacles, but it s combined with other tasks, so it can still be a few miles of race. • 9. Women s Rights For Women In The Russian Revolution Before the times of the revolution, women in Russia had no say about their lives. They were forced to tend to the home their husband provided for them, and many grew up illiterate. The homes they were forced to tend to were full of aggression and constant abuse from their husband or father; male dominance in Russia thrived before the revolution. Women in that time were not emotionally strong enough to take a stand for their equality. The thought of a woman working outside of their home disgusted many men living during that time. The Russian Revolution created a gateway for women to take an active role in a once anti women s rights society. When the revolution began on March 8, 1917, education in Russia became a new priority (Figes). Women living in poverty prior to the revolution were given no opportunities to become educated. Only women with a wealthy husband gained access to very limited schooling; those who did not marry rich were left with no access to obtain an education (McElvanney). Often times at the age of ten or twelve, girls began working; they were lucky to be exposed to one complete year of education (Frederiksen). A mere 13.1% of the female population in Russia was considered literate prior to the revolution (Frederiksen). The revolution allowed women to take a stand to their right to a proper education. Riots that formed during the revolution paved a pathway for free education to become mandatory for all children. Along with their children, women gained ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After him in 1873, came James Clerk Maxwell who proposed that electric and magnetic fields filled the void. Six years later in 1879, Sir William Crookes made an enormous discovery... He studies the effects of sending and electric current through a gas in a sealed tube. This electrode was called a cathode and the particles were cathode rays. He discovered that cathode rays travel in straight lines from the cathode; cause glass to fluoresce; are deflected by electric fields and magnets to suggest a possible negative charge; cause pinwheels in their path to spin showing they have mass. In 1896 while studying the effect of x rays on photographic film, Henri Becquerel discovered some chemicals spontaneously decompose and give off very penetrating rays. He exposed potassium uranyl sulfate to sunlight, believing that uranium absorbed the sun s energy and emitted it as x rays. According to Mrs. Zubkewych Ms. Irwin told her that the block of houses at 8 20 Oakmount road, 1834 1844 Bloor street west, 3 17 Pacific avenue were built over 100 years ago, she said before they were houses the whole block used to be owned be a doctor who made it into farm land. So therefore we know the soil is non toxic. The reason the houses were recently torn down is because the owner was trying to get the permits to build but was unable to so he sold the land to a development company. This ties into science because we now know that the soil is not toxic or acidic (since plants can t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Mathematical Theory Of Mathematics And Mathematics In Mathematics, it is rare that a new branch of mathematics is introduced. That means that even branches of math that have been around for hundreds of years are still technically new, or at least relatively new. One such branch of mathematics is probability. Probability is only three hundred to four hundred years old, so it easily falls into this category when compared to branches of mathematics such as Geometry which dates back all the way to ancient Egypt in around 2900 BC, when it first became important when an Egyptian pharaoh wanted to tax farmers who raised crops along the Nile River. To compute the correct amount of tax, the pharaoh s agents had to be able to measure the amount of land being cultivated. Later it was used to build the pyramids. Probability s beginning happened because of recreational circumstances. A gambler s dispute in 1654 led to the creation of the mathematical theory of probability by two famous French mathematicians, Blaise Pascal and Pierre de Fermat. Antoine Gombaud, Chevalier de MĂ©rĂ©, a French nobleman with an interest in gaming and gambling questions, called Pascal s attention to an apparent contradiction concerning a popular dice game. The game consisted in throwing a pair of dice 24 times; the problem was to decide whether or not to bet even money on the occurrence of at least one double six during the 24 throws. A seemingly well established gambling rule led de MĂ©rĂ© to believe that betting on a double six in 24 throws would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Zone Of Proximal Development Essay Zone of proximal development and Scaffolding learning The main contents of sociocultural theory include: mediation, zone of proximal development, private and inner speech as well as activity theory. And the zone of proximal development(ZPD) which was first put forward by Lev Vygotsky was considered as an another major concept in this theory. It is actually the gap between actual competence level (what problem level a child is able to independently solve), and the potential development level (what problem level could a child solve with guidance from a tutor). In Vygotsky s view, learning is an interactive, interpersonal activity. The learner can continue expose to knowledge through the social interaction and internalize the external knowledge. Based on the above ideological foundation, the concept of scaffolding Instruction was put forward. Cognitive development in the zone of proximal development stresses the role of a social partner of the student (a teacher or a more skilled person). • 24. Analysis Of The Poem Snake Upon reading and reflecting on the poem Snake by D.H. Lawrence, I couldn t help but feel like the poem hearkens back to Emily Dickinson s poems A Narrow Fellow in the Grass and even A Bird, Came Down the Walk. Like Dickinson s poems there is a recognition of not only the beauty and majesty that is in nature but also the danger that lurks in the unknown. Lawrence s Snake , like Dickinson s poems, utilizes personification, not only to connect humankind to nature, but also to elevate the serpent to an almost human level. I will focus on the poem Snake by D.H Lawrence and explore the ways the speaker in the poem uses this personification, sound devices, allusion, language and even structure to convey the speakers reverence and fear of nature, more specifically the snake or subject in the natural realm. As Snake begins we are introduced to the speaker encountering this element of the wild, the snake. Early in the poem, the language utilizes the use of sound devices that not only immerse the reader in the scenario, but also the speaker at the level of the snake. Lines 4 13 simulate a snake s hiss by employing words beginning with S, such as strange scented shade (4), steps (5), slackness soft (9), stone (8 9), and He sipped with his straight mouth/ Softly drank through his straight gums, into his slack long body/ Silently (11 13). This poetic device is used later in the poem, however it not only simulates the hiss, but also the slither, And slowly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Employers generally prefer single page resumes; however, often a two page resume is acceptable (Cardon, 2013). Moreover, including too much information contributes to confusion or jumbled messages and in contrast may actually take away from the important qualifications and abilities that are displayed. According to Cardon (2013), chronological resumes are the most common and are preferred 75% of the time. Accordingly, chronological resumes are designed in reverse order with the most recent work history and education listed first (Gantner, 2010). Chronological resumes are beneficial in displaying a strong work history. Consequently, these resumes are preferred when there are no gaps in one s work history. Hawthorne illustrates an awe inspiring example of how human imperfection is natural and the way we are created is how we shall remain, perfectly imperfect. It is difficult not to consider the world today and how much plastic surgeons profit and customers pay, just to reflect an ideal image. This story is published in the eighteenth century, which depicts a mad scientist (Aylmer) who claims to have the ability to create perfection in the imperfect, Godly creation of his wife (Georgiana). The marriage union is without happiness because of a small birthmark on Georgiana s cheek, which Aylmer aspires to eliminate with his impeccable scientific expertise. For Aylmer, the obsessive need to remove the specifically colored mark ends the life of his wife; For Hawthorne and Sophia, the loss of the exact color presents apprehension and the end of life as they know it. When the desire for perfection becomes more important than life itself, this proves a greater flaw within character. Aylmer has a dream of removing the mark, which leads to the death of Georgiana, his wife. In Aylmer s mind, the mark represents his wife s liability to sin, sorrow, decay and death (Hawthorne 341). For this reason, he feels the urge to remove it immediately. As time passes, Georgiana begins to shudder at his gaze (341). She grows to hate the mark that she once felt brought her beauty and charm. Georgiana s eagerness to eliminate the mark grows stronger than Aylmer s because she yearns for him to look at her with adoration rather than disgust. The dream, which Aylmer pays little mind, foreshadows the end result s reality. Aylmer does indeed kill his wife by removal of the birth mark. I blindly believed that those who are protesting and trying to bring about change are already educated. I had a blanket understanding of the idea of praxis, but it was not until we started the praxis assignment that it made sense. Going into it, I believed that what we were doing was truly intersectional; after all, we were providing transportation so more young girls could have access to Girls on the Run. But reflecting on my experience now that I have learned more about intersectionality, I look at this experience as only a starting point. I can now reflect on the fact that the program is only beginning to make efforts to become more intersectional and has a lot to improve upon. Once I applied the concepts from class to the work I was doing, I finally understood what praxis meant. I have learned that praxis is constantly evolving, and as it does, it is important to reevaluate the initial objective and make efforts to improve and expand it. While the problems may appear consummated, the people of today know that is not totally the case. One reason to learn them [foreign languages] is because they are tickets to being able to participate in the culture of the people who speak them, just by virtue of the fact that it is their code, begins McWhorter of TED (McWhorter, 2016). I had determined that I wanted to upgrade from the old product, and saw an opportunity to do so. I had to put together a list of criteria, because the purchase decision was not entirely easy. The iPod Touch has a fairly high price point, so I had to choose between a range of iPods and smartphones. The criteria, in list form, included price, memory size, features, Wifi, phone capabilities, and operating system. I used a combination of talking to friends and Internet research to come to my purchase decision. It is worth pointing out that at the beginning of the process, I had a top three list of desired qualities that would change over the course of the research. There should be guidelines to human experimentation. Human experimentation should only be performed on consenting adults that understand what is going to happen. In other words, the doctors should get informed consent from their patients. There have been many unethical human experimental trials performed on people that had no idea what was happening to them. This is unethical and very dangerous for the people. There also have been different guidelines and codes for human experimentation, such as the Nuremberg Code and the Declaration of Helsinki. An example of such unethical human experimentation is The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment. This happened in Alabama and was performed by the U.S government in 1932. The men that were in the trial were given free health care, meals and burial insurance. 399 men had syphilis beforehand and 201 did not. • 41. The Global Positioning System (Gps) Introduction: The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite based navigation system made up of a network of 24 satellites placed into orbit by the U.S. Department of Defense. GPS was originally intended for military applications, but in the 1980s, the government made the system available for civilian use. GPS works in any weather conditions, anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day. There are no subscription fees or setup charges to use GPS. The GPS is made up of three parts: satellites orbiting the Earth; control and monitoring stations on Earth; and the GPS receivers owned by users. GPS satellites broadcast signals from space that are picked up and identified by GPS receivers. Each GPS receiver then provides three dimensional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Essentially, the GPS receiver compares the time a signal was transmitted by a satellite with the time it was received. The time difference tells the GPS receiver how far away the satellite is. Now, with distance measurements from a few more satellites, the receiver can determine the user s position and display it on the unit s electronic map. Figure: Working module. A GPS receiver must be locked on to the signal of at least three satellites to calculate a 2D position (latitude and longitude) and track movement. With four or more satellites in view, the receiver can determine the user s 3D position (latitude, longitude and altitude). Once the user s position has been determined, the GPS unit can calculate other information, such as speed, bearing, track, trip distance, distance to destination, sunrise and sunset time and more. When people talk about a GPS, they usually mean a GPS receiver. The Global Positioning System (GPS) is actually a constellation of 27 Earth orbiting satellites (24 in operation and three extras in case one fails). The U.S. military developed and implemented this satellite network as a military navigation system, but soon opened it up to everybody else. Figure: NAVSTAR GPS satellite Each of these 3,000 to 4,000 pound solar powered satellites circles the globe at about 12,000 miles (19,300 km), making two complete rotations every day. The Magna Carta Nathanael Sterner Mr. Whitaker HIST 102 November 22, 2017 The Signing of the Magna Carta Those in our country that teach about the United States government will at one point bring up the signing of the Magna Carta as a pivotal point in the establishing the principle of the government is accountable to the laws of the common man. Before this point the king sat on high and dictated how people were to live there lives alongside the church while not being held accountable to the laws that he made. This lead to great resentment when a king was seen as tyrannical. So the Magna Carta or the Great Charter was created to help curb the King John II of England when he wanted to continue the war with France, set boundaries on what the king could do without the consent of the council , and bind the ruler of the land to his subjects in such a way that he had to obey his own rules. In the time leading up to the signing of the Great Charter King John had lost his holdings in France after several unsuccessful military endeavors. To help reclaim these holdings King John demanded that his barons provide him with more men and money to take the land back. However he did this without forewarning his barons about the increasing demand that he was placing on taxes and levies. The barons then thought that they were being wronged by the feudal system and that the king was not upholding his end of the deal. In addition to this when King John could not get his money he cracked down on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
