Analysis Of George Bernard Shaw Declares s There Is No...
George Bernard Shaw declares there is no love sincerer than the love of food. However, with the
love of food, there generally appear desires for an accommodation of a satisfying environment for
further appreciation of the food. For those seeking such sorts, Harry s, a locally owned restaurant in
Moss Bluff, deserves recommendation on account of the comfortable atmosphere, pleasant food
served, and the friendly staff. The restaurant building rests in the same concrete lot as a Five
Star Quick Stop convenience store off of highway 171 of Moss Bluff. To the right of the
convenience store is Joe Miller Road. To the left of Five Star is Harry s and it connects directly
to a casino. The casino and the restaurant are owned by the same people. The white tin like roof
on the building provides a contrast to three maroon signs separated by two green signs propped
adjacent to them, capturing the attention of those passing by. Wrapping around the red bricked
restaurant and casino are several yellow lines that fill with a variety of vehicles. Four blacked out
windows situated directly under the large maroon sign displaying Harry s Restaurant in a creamy
white font decorate the building s face. Approximately two feet of bricks separate the windows and
the black glass door entrance. Upon entering the restaurant stands a brown booth on the left. From
behind the booth a rather youthful and welcoming female greets guests walking in through the
glass doors. Despite the somewhat tight

People s Understanding Of Food
People s understanding of food is shaped by many different things. For example, a Wendy s
Power Mediterranean Chicken Salad, Half sized would be viewed differently by what a person
considers healthy , how they want their body to look like, where they come from, their income
level, and whether they are male or female. Wendy s description of its salad says Here s the
nutrient rich, protein packed fuel you need to power through your day. Always fresh grilled
chicken teams up with a savory ensemble of feta cheese, hummus, and sundried tomato quinoa
blend to take this salad to the next level. This product is available at participating locations. It
has 230 calories, 5 grams of fiber, and 20 grams of protein. When it comes to health and the
Wendy s salad I view it as a healthier option compared to the rest of the menu. I would pick this
when I feel like eating something that I would consider is good for me and giving me
nutrients. It would make me feel better about myself if I eat the salad over a cheesburger or
chicken nuggets. Someone like Michael Pollan would view this salad as a healthier option than
anything else on the Wendy s menu since it is more plant based with the lettuce, but he probably
still would not recommend it. In his 9 pieces of advice he claims Avoid even those food products
that come bearing health claims (Pollan 13). In the wendy s description it includes many health
claims like nutrient rich , Always fresh , and low amount of calories. Pollan

Common, and well known disasters include hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, and tornadoes. In
Louisiana, it is essential to prepare for a natural disaster, because it can happen anytime and
anywhere. As stated in www.redfin.com, many people do this by getting a disaster kit which
includes many crucial materials that can help you stay alive. You also want to plan ahead by
going over escape routes, having plenty of food and water, and by having extra clothes and jackets.
Due to these many harmful natural disasters, many houses and buildings have been torn down, and
many people have been killed. The biggest disaster that has ever hit Louisiana is Hurricane Katrina,

Faith And Conflict In Elie Wiesel s Night
In Night, Wiesel shows that while faith may not solve everyone s problems, it does however have
the power to reduce conflict and act to protect a person s humanity, when it s being challenged by
impossible circumstances.
This story portrays the harsh reality about the events that had happened during the Holocaust,
Wiesel who was a young boy living in Sighet, Transylvania, during the World War II. Wiesel even
though young was known to be very religious, and was one who during prayer would cry. During
this time Wiesel was wanting begin his study of Jewish mysticism, however his Father, Chlomo
Wiesel who was a prominent leader in the Jewish community believed that his son was still too
young. Aware of his father s thoughts, Wiesel didn t let them hold him back and he began his
studies of with man named Moche the Beadle, who was known within in the community to be a

Comparing Reverend Parris And Reverend Hale In The...
The Salem Witch Trials caused imperative rulings on the lives of multiple people back in the late
1600s. In The Crucible we learn of several characters causing these crucial events to unfold.
Reverend Parris and Reverend Hale may share similar titles, but do not let the titles deceive about
this character duo. Despite the great likeness between the two in the opening act as the story
progresses things differentiate from the beginning any multiple ways. Reverend Parris and
Reverend Hale undoubtedly have similar and different things between them throughout the story in
the aspects of their traits, motives and goals within the context of the play. The traits between the
two characters appear similar in the beginning, but despite this their traits... Show more content on

In the beginning they both attempt to expose the witchcraft. In act 3 Hale s motive influences
his goal to give the truth. Opposing this, Parris s goal is also influenced by his motive, to save
his name. Then act 4 comes, despite the huge dramatic court scene before this, both Reverends
attempt to get those found guilty to admit they participated in witchcraft. Hale tells them that life
is God s most important thing, he says God would rather the accused lie then be stubborn with
their pride and tell the real truth. Parris must feel guilt towards the accused persons and therefore
he tries getting them to save themselves by admitting. Obviously Parris s guilt is not enough to
get him to override his lies about the supposed witches, but it is enough to try to get them to
admit to the charges and save themselves. A great quote by Hale in this act is Life, woman, life is
God s most precious gift; no principle, however glorious, may justify the taking of it. This really
intensifies the scene and shows Hale s perspective of

Moscow Metro Escalator Accident ( 1982 )
Moscow Metro Escalator Accident (1982)
Peter Brearley 5 December, 2016
Fig.1
1
1 Introduction
Aviamotornaya is a metro station situated in Moscow, Russia. On February 17, 1982, only three
years after the opening of the station, an escalator caused a significant disaster that killed 8 people
and injured at least 30. It is said to be the largest escalator accident to date. This report is going to
assess the causation of the disaster, looking at the human and mechanical faults. It will then discuss
how regulations attempt to minimise occurrences such as this, before discussing how Soviet
secrecy has influenced aftermath, and the consequential impact on engineering development.
2 Summary of Events
Just as rush hour was getting underway at about 4:30pm, escalator number 4 was switched on.
A single step on the escalator came loose. The step remained loose for approximately half an
hour, completing many complete cycles of the escalator in this time. Ultimately, the loose step
got caught in the upper mechanism of the escalator. As a result, the step deformed the working
gears and drive mechanism. The gearing is responsible for regulating the speed of the escalator;
once it was mangled and no longer working the escalator picked up a lot of speed due to the
weight of the many passengers currently riding it. The nervous passengers were then traveling
down the metro at worrying speeds, still accelerating. Ordinarily, this would not be a problem, as
escalators are fitted with safety

White Trash Primer Analysis
Lacy M. Johnson and Amy Tan came from two entirely different backgrounds. Johnson had come
from a southern, rural family, while Tan had come from a Chinese family living in America.
Johnson wrote the short story White Trash Primer, which is from the book Trespasses: A Memoir,
and Tan s Two Kinds is an excerpt from her book The Joy Luck Club
. Even though these authors
are entirely different, they share similar qualities in their writing styles such as language,
imagery and symbolism. They also share a connected message which is that whatever you do,
no matter if it is something hard or if you are going through hard times, as long as you try your
best you will be able to achieve your goal. In Johnson s White Trash Primer, Johnson tells the
story of living on a farm, growing up in a poor family and going through hard times. Johnson tells
how she overcomes the obstacles that she had to deal with in her life. This leaves the reader with
the message that, no matter how hard life is, as long as you push through you will be able to do
anything you set your mind to. The line You hide that you are poor (Johnson... Show more content

In Two Kinds Tan compares herself to Christ, when dreaming of the idea of becoming a prodigy
child. I was like the Christ child lifted out of the straw manger, crying with holy indignity (Tan

merely makes a visual reference about how religion is in the south. The line You attend second
service every Sunday since the day you are born and Brother Dan or Brother Darrell preach
about the glory and grace of Jesus Christ and you accept him as your Lord and Savior or you burn
in hell and this is why you ve been baptized twice and saved exactly twenty seven times (Johnson

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Judges
When judges are spoken of as a group, they are referred to as the judiciary. There are many
different levels of judges, but the basic function is the same at all levels: judges are there to
adjudicate on disputes in a fair, unbiased way, applying the legal rules of England and Wales.
There is no clear cut division between civil and criminal judges, as many judges at the various
levels are required to sit for both types of case. This in itself causes problem as, before their
appointment, most judges will have specialised in one area of law. The head of the judiciary is
the Lord Chief Justice. When considering judges the first point is that there is a marked difference
between what are we called superior judges and inferior judges. Superior... Show more content on

Brave Men And Women Of This Great Nation
Brave men and women of this great nation choose to make what many have referred to as the
ultimate sacrifice by answering our nation s call to serve as a member of the United States
Armed Forces. Most have no clue of how these individuals manage to tolerate the rigors of highly
intensive, extended training days for months at a time. The idea of maintaining mental, physical,
and spiritual resilience throughout lengthy combat deployments to the middle east and other
tormented nations abroad all while having to uphold a long distance relationship with your
significant other, children, and family is mind boggling. Statistics have proven that the job of
United States military personnel to be one of the most stressful professions in today s job
market. Most people refer to the these audacious men and women as heroes for the selfless act of
enlisting to serve their country. Others believe that the one percent of those daring enough to sign
their lives away to Uncle Sam are terribly insane or just plain mad even. Once your time has been
completed as an active service member, drilling reservist or guardsmen, or a member of the active
guard and reserve (AGR), it is customarily assumed that these doughty individuals would be able to
collect on an insurmountable debt from this great nation but the majority of them never have the
chance to even cash on a fraction of what is justifiably due to them. The United States Department

My Sister Marriage And My Sister Marriage By Cynthia...
Men
Everyone have their own distinct characteristic that make them who they are. Being able relate to
others from our common interest and how our personality compliments each other. We can be
charming , likeable, and other times personalities has it s flaws. Blake in The Five Forty Three by
John Cheever and Dr. Landis in My sister Marriage by Cynthia Marshall Rich are two individual
that has their own character traits, their relationship with others and theme of the story.
Dr. Landis is a widowed man with two daughters Olive and Sarah Ann. Dr. Landis daughter
described him as a gentlemen, that is intelligent , well respected, and great at giving advice. He
went to Harvard and that is one reason he is different from the other men around here. He is a
scholar and not bound to provincial ideas. People here respect him and come to him for advice
(Rich 203). Dr. Landis is a well known man due to his statues but he also has his own flaws. He
can be manipulative towards his daughters. He does not want secrets between his daughter and him
and will do everything to make them feel ashamed by not being open. When Dr. Landis seen Sarah
Ann shove the paper under the blotter he insisted that she showed him the letter, but Sarah Ann
explained that it was private and silly but in Dr. Landis eyes nothing is silly.
Then he was all sad and hurt and said this wasnt a family where we keep things
hidden and there I was hiding this from him. I

The Constructivist Theory and Brain Development Essay
The idea of epigenesis has become well known as an integral part of the constructivist theory which
states that neural activity within the brain is largely spontaneous, driven by genetic and molecular
instances (Mareschal, D., Johnson, M.H., Grayson, A., 2004). However, after birth, the neural
activity is influenced by sensory and motor experience and the outside environment (Mareschal et
al, 2004). Epigenesis is what the constructivist theory is about, the interaction between genes and
the environment. A study done by Petersen et al used PET, or positron emission tomography, to
understand the responses of native English adult speakers to written stimuli in the form of English
words, pseudowords or words that had no meaning but could... Show more content on

During development, the temporal lobe is most responsible for responding to auditory (hearing)
information, however for those who cannot hear, this section was used for a different sense
(Mareschal et al, 2004). This shows that the temporal lobe in the brain, although genetically made
to hear, had used the child s sensory experience to become prominently involved with visual
processing, or in other words, adapted to the environment that the child was in. If the brain was
already made for development and not influenced by the outside world and environment, it
would seem to be nearly impossible for a hearing part of the brain to adapt to only visual
processing. Lastly, there was a study done by Mills that tested language acquisition in children,
which also showed a link to epigenesis in development. This study concluded that with
experience, certain types of processing in the brain are performed by more localised regions of the
cortex (Mills, D.M, Coffey, S.A, Neville, H.J., 1993). The researchers collected data from ERPs
that suggested processing of small words and control stimuli is spread over a large area of the
cortex at first, however, this processing narrows to an area over the left temporal lobe only when
the child s vocabulary reaches about 200 words, regardless of the child s age (Mareschal et al,
2004). One could argue that if this narrowing of processing of words happens at a particular age,
then that area of the

Portrayal of Women in Rap and Music Videos Essay
Misogyny and degradation of women is present in almost every genre of music, yet the one
genre that completely revolves around demeaning women is rap. Over the years rap and rap
music videos have continually become more sexual and degrading towards women. Rap has been
criticized numerous times for this reason, and that is because rap is one of the most popular
genres of music for the younger generations. It is more than a genre of music, it is a complete
industry filled with clothing and other merchandise. The reason this constant demeaning of women
exists is because rap as a genre that rewards the objectification of women. The excuses used to
justify the misogyny in rap are incomplete and lack accurate support. The most effective way...

A rapper couldn t use a line describing what she did in the movie, let alone film it in a video,
without getting heat for it (Keyes 256). While some may choose to side with this argument, rap
truly takes sexual portrayal of women in both music videos and songs to the next level. In rap
music videos, diamond covered rappers stand next to cars as scantily dressed women dance
around them. This is the premise of the majority of rap music videos and both young girls and
boys all over the world see the constant objectification of women in these videos. Naturally this
concerns the parents of these kids, and many critics believes that the images kids see on T.V
directly correlate to their development and thinking: exposure to rap music videos, which is
explicit about sex and violence and rarely shows the potential long term adverse effects of risky
behavior, may influence adolescents by modeling thee unhealthy practices (Thrash). Parents should
become more aware of these videos, and make sure that their young daughters are not watching
them. Yet, once they get to the age where they could be recruited for these videos it is important
that they are educated about this industry. This education should come from the home, but I think
it would also be important to provide workshops for girls about this issue. Since anorexia is such a
problem among girls many companies and organizations put together workshops to educate young
girls. One example of this is Dove s Self Esteem

The Ethnic Groups in Malaysia and Its Culture
The Ethnic Relation and Culture in Malaysia. By just looking at the title above, you know what I
am going to talk about. Yes, you are right, the culture of our magnificent country. Our country is
actually envied by many foreigners. Why? Well, one of the main reasons is because of how we
Malaysians can live in harmony for many years, even though we consist of many different races and
ethnic groups. The culture of our country started out with the unique combination and amount of
ethnic groups in our country. Let s understand more of our country s ethnic group before we go on
shall we?

and the Indians. Firstly, the Malays, also known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Sabah and Sarawak, they consists a large number of ethnic groups even I never heard of!
Although living in the same country, I still do not know much of my people; it is a shame for
many young people nowadays too, all they know are mainly the three main ethnic groups. Besides
that, another we must not forget about is that many foreigners, or shall I say legal immigrants came
to our country live as citizens of Malaysia. For example, the Koreans, Japanese, Filipinos,
Indonesians, etc because of the way we live.
Being a Malaysian, we are very lucky. We live in a place where there are no serious and deadly
problems like natural disasters or war. Besides that, the pace of how we live is very slow, carefree
and we don t have much stress compare to other country. Studies show that the Koreans and
Japanese in the country came because they wanted to live the Malaysian way.
The main question our country s people are asking is, why Malaysia? Of all countries, why pick
Malaysia? Why does so many people from the outside wants to come to our country while we,
people of Malaysia wants to migrate to other people s country? Maybe one day, Malaysia s three
major ethnic groups are Malays, Japanese and Koreans. It would be very weird. Malaysia will not
be Malaysia anymore.
Ethnic relations go way back into our country s history. They are not just the natural consequences
of the differences between cultures. Due to peninsular Malaysia s strategic

In The Diagnostic And Statistical Manual Of Mental...
In the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed.; DSM 5) there are a number
of disorders that are proposed as conditions for further study, including nonsuicidal self injury
(NSSI) disorder (American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013). According to the proposed
diagnostic criteria, an individual must have engaged in self injury behavior (e.g., cutting, burning,
scraping) on the surface of their body, at least five times over the last year, without suicidal intent.
Additionally, the self injury is done with the intent of gaining relief from negative emotions and the
individual experiences excessive thoughts about self injury in the period of time before the act

Additionally, this study emphasized the importance of further study, especially in regards to the
link between NSSI and suicidal ideation. Looking at four population samples, Klonsky, May and
Glenn, further looked at the relation between NSSI and suicide attempts. They found that NSSI
predicted future suicide attempts more than any other risk factor, except for suicidal ideation. This
shows that NSSI is a serious risk factor for suicide and shows an individual s increased capability
for harming oneself, which needs to be taken into consideration when looking at suicide prevention
(Klonsky, May, Glenn, 2013). They also found, amongst the four populations, that amongst
adolescent females, NSSI is significantly more common than with adolescent males, compared to
the college and adult populations, where neither females nor males significantly engaged in NSSI
more than the other (Klonsky et al., 2013). Another study looked at implicit attitudes between
adolescents who engaged in either NSSI or had a suicide attempt (Dickstein et al., 2015). The main
purpose of this study was to see how NSSI and suicide attempts can be understood distinctly and
uncorrelated. They found that adolescents who had NSSI had a stronger association with cutting as
well as with thinking about death, while adolescents who had attempted suicide only had
associations with death (Dickstein et al., 2015). This was important due to the association that
NSSI had with death, even if they had never

Effects Of Hawaiian Tourism
Hawaii s beautiful terrain, clear ocean waters, and year around tropical climate temperatures,
combined with the people s Aloha and welcoming spirit has made the islands one of the most
attractive location in the world to visit. In 1997, 158,000 individuals visited Hawaii each day, and
the annual tourist arrival count was 6.8 million. (Luciano). Although Hawaiis tourismbusiness has
improved the socio economic condition for many that has made Hawaii their home, there have been
negative impacts to Native Hawaiianswith second and third order effects that go unseen behind the
ocean front hotels, luaus, and tourist attractions. Hawaii has become a major tourist destination that
receives over six million visitors per year. One of a major contributor to the Hawaiian economy, so
much that it generates 10 billion dollars per year to the economy. (Lukasz). Because of tourism, the
negative impact on the Native Hawaiians has been eye opening for the economic effects and even
globalization. At home, specific negative effects include overbuilding to accommodate increased
population densities, low income jobs, and mistreatment from tourists.
Visitor expenditures in 1980 made up 24% of the Gross State Product. In 1988, this figure had
increased to 43%. (Patterson). The growth of Hawaii s domestic product has come from an increase

The Reinvention Of Retail Through Iot
The Reinvention of Retail through IoT
By Noopur Sane, Vishranth Chandrashekar and Aditya Lahoti
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a term used to describe the growing number of smart and
connected products. It consists of physical things such as sensors which have the ability to collect
and share data. Predictions suggest that over 30 billion smart and connected devices will be in use
in the year 2020.
What are the avenues broadly where IoT could transform the retail sphere?
Inventory: Technology can undoubtedly revolutionize the retail backdrop. There are technologies
that can save any retailers from theft, cheating and evade inventory dysfunction.
Supply Chain: IoT related devices can resolve and troubleshoot supply chain issues. By ... Show

For example, by analyzing video feeds Marketers can use visualizations to understand the impact of
different promotional displays or promotional signage and get a sense of how that s affecting
customer behavior in the store.
Applications of IoT is countless when devices, processes and people are integrated to form a
complete picture. Shoppers receive offers on their smartphones after communicating with beacons
(a low cost piece of hardware used to transmit messages or prompt to a smartphone or tablet), while
manufacturers and distributors receive alarms at dock doors when outgoing shipments are
incorrect, based on RFID readings.
Let us take a look at some of the industry use cases of application of IoT in retail:
Disney has RFID enabled MagicBand wristbands that provide theme park access, entry access for
guest hotel rooms, and cash and card free payment food and merchandise. All the activity in the
park is also tracked data that helps build a better picture of how guests use Disney services.
Online retailing giant Amazon is once again disrupting bricks and mortar retailing with the Dash
Button, a WiFi enabled device that is mapped to specific consumer packaged goods products like
laundry detergent. All that a consumer needs to do when the current supply is running low is to tap
the button stuck to the washing machine which generates an order, transaction and delivery of a
fresh supply of detergent.

What rituals are involved?
Learning the Basics
Considering the number of rituals and the depth of history and beliefs that come with them, it

Government Over Regulation Of The United States

Government Over Regulation The United States has slowly conformed to the new ways of the
Western policy of democratic socialism in order to achieve equality in the eyes of the law, but
with this the necessary regulatory compliance of all citizens must be provided. If all American
citizens do agree to abide by the rules implemented by the United States, the freedom that they
came here for would be nonexistent, and they would no longer have the ability to truly live the
infamous American dream . The economy is also beginning to move away from the capitalist ways
and move toward an ideology of equality among the wealth and incomes of the people, and the only

Where government has gone beyond its limits is in deciding to protect us from ourselves (Tanner
1). Joseph Stiglitz, a Nobel Prize winner, Chief Economist at Roosevelt Institute, best selling
author, and a professor at Columbia University explains the problems with the current economy in
the United States in his book Rewriting the Rules of the American Economy. He explains that
even though the one percent of the United States population is living a prosperous life, the
remaining ninety nine percent are being hurt by this reality (Stiglitz 8). From this it can be
concluded that the regulations currently being pressed upon the majority of the population are
hurting more than benefitting. Capitalism is defined as an economic and political system in
which a country s trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by
the state (Oxford Dictionary 1). There has been a longing to find a balance between this and
socialism. The laissez faire is the commonly known economic idea of a government refraining
from interfering in the free market in order to allow the people to control their own means of
production and selling of goods. This seems to be ruined by the over regulation of the economy by
the government because much of the US economic benefits rely on the free market. Also,
capitalism allows for people to voluntarily take part in making their own wealth. Without this,

General Aviation And A Business Jet
General Aviation Value Analysis The Comparison This General Aviation Value Analysis will

comparison a short distance and a long distance trip will be used. Both trips will be a business trip

12th. The departure location is Seattle, WA to Boise, ID (short trip) and Seattle, WA to Houston,
TX (long trip). The analysis can then be used by the business to compare and contrast the best
solution.
Commercial Air Travel
The commercial airline selected for the business trip is Alaska Airlines. The airline is the ideal
carrier because Seattle is Alaska Airline s hub, making it the best choice for both trips. It s
important to point put today that commercial airlines face an overwhelming high volume of
travelers. With more and more passengers traveling via commercial airlines, one of challenges
business travelers face today is the longer wait times through the TSA security check point, delayed

The Russian Revolutions of 1917 Essay
The Russian Revolutions of 1917 There were two revolutions that occurred in Russia in 1917. The
first one, in February, overthrew the Russian monarchy. The second one, in October, created the
world s first Communist state.
The Russian revolutions of 1917 involved a series of uprisings by workers and peasants
throughout the country and by soldiers, who were predominantly of peasant origin, in the Russian
army. Many of the uprisings were organized and led by democratically elected councils called
soviets. The soviets originated as strike committees and were basically a form of local self

Known as the October Revolution or the Bolshevik Revolution, it was led by a group of
revolutionary socialists called Bolsheviks. It brushed aside the Provisional Government. The
Bolsheviks hoped that their revolution would result in more fundamental changes to carry out
socialist revolutions.
The Provisional Government was made up of liberal leaders, and as well as some moderate
socialists. The Prime minister, Lvov, was a wealthy landowner, who favored an immediate
constitutional monarchy and ultimately a republic. Lvov was the outstanding personality in the
Provisional Government. The most famous of the moderate socialists was Aleksndr Kerensky,
the minister of justice. The collapse of the tsarist regime thus left in its wake two centers of
political authority: (1) the traditional politicians of the Provisional Government, who had little
control over the people, and (2) the democratically elected soviets, which exercised more
political power owing to support from the great majority of workers and soldiers. This system of
dual power proved to be unstable. The instability grew as the moderate politicians proved
increasingly unable to meet the rising expectations of the laboring masses. The Provisional
Government declared an end to tsarist repression and established full civil liberties. It also

Comparison and Analysis of the Influence the Characters of...
Sexual tension leads to a highly charged, dramatic demise for Blanche and Eddie
The characters of Blanche and Eddie are closely linked by several factors, including the reasons
behind their cantankerous endings in the plays A Streetcar Named Desire and A View from the
Bridge . Williams and Miller characterize Blanche and Eddie through their sexuality, which is a very
important theme in both plays.
Both characters show traces of mental instability; Blanche perhaps more so than Eddie, as
throughout the play there are constant reminders to the audience that Blanche s already feeble
mental state is deteriorating. For example, when Blanche recalls the death of her young husband ,
Tennessee Williams cleverly has the music of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately as they are both strong characters, one of the two has to come out a victor of their
rivalry. Stanley is strong but Blanche successfully establishes a foothold in his house during the
first third of the play and even shames him into acting somewhat sheepishly by the end of scene
one. However, Blanche s ascendancy does not last long and eventually we see Stanley regain his
primitive masculine supremacy. This then progresses towards the end of the play, to complete
lack of respect for Blanche herself, as in scene ten a drunk Stanley rapes her while her sister is in
hospital; an unpleasant victory over a weakened Blanche is the very peak of tension between the
two.
The main tension experienced in A View from the Bridge is due to the great contrast between how
Eddie sees Catherine, and how she sees him. In Eddie s world, he imagines protecting Catherine
from marriage or any male relationship and wants her for himself. While Eddie wavers and
switches between communal and state laws and cultures to discriminate against Rodolpho, his
motivations do not change, regardless of the fact it is often at the expense of others. Throughout the
play, Miller creates uncomfortable situations for the reader/viewer, caused by the emergence of
Eddie s unusual love for Catherine. This is shown in particular in act one, when Catherine

Cultural Impact On Hurricane Katrina
Hurricane Katrina was one of the most devastating natural disasters on record in the United States
(Skinner, 2006) In August of 2005, Hurricane Katrina made landfall along the Gulf Coast
destroying buildings, homes and communities (Skinner, 2006). Storm surges and levee failures
resulted in an estimated $108 billion in physical property damage, specifically in the areas of
Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama (Skinner, 2006). Furthermore, Katrina proved itself to be one
of the deadliest disasters in U.S. history as it claimed the lives of more than 1,800 people (Skinner,
2006).
The impact of natural disasters is often discussed in the context of physical destruction, economic or
financial consequences, or loss of human lives. While all of these factors are certainly important in
gaining a complete understanding of the devastation caused by natural disasters, the psychological
impact these traumatic events have on survivors is often overlooked. Likewise, it is essential to
consider the impact that local culture impact the government s response to disasters such as
Hurricane Katrina in order to understand why black residents reported higher incidences of
psychological distress than any other racial group. The areas most profoundly impacted by
Hurricane Katrina have a history rooted deeply in racial discrimination and segregation (Chia Chen

The Epic Of Alexander Pope s The Rape Of The Lock
Mock epic is a narrative poem which aims at mockery and laughter by using almost all the
characteristic features of an epic but for a trivial subject. Alexander Pope s The Rape of the Lock
is a famous mock epic. In it, there is invocation to Muses, proposition of subject, battles,
supernatural machinery, journey on water, underworld journey, long speeches, feasts (coffee
house), Homeric similes and grand style but all for a simple family dispute instead of a national
struggle. The grand treatment of a low subject produces hilarious laughter and makes the story more
ridiculous.
Firstly, Paradise Lost is a long epic poem by John Milton begins with the proposition of
justification of God s way to man with nice invocation to the Muses. And another epic poem titled
The Faerie Queene by Edmund Spenser follows the same manner. The subject matters in both of
the epic poems are grand. Like the epic poems, the poem The Rape of the Lock opens with the
proposition of the subject matter and Pope s invocation to the Muses to help him compose the
literary art. Such a grand treatment of a trivial subject matter like the clipping of the lock of
Belinda provokes laughter when the poet says:
I sing this verse to Caryll, Muse! Is due:

considerable detail the armor and weaponry of the great Achilles, as well as the battlefield
trappings of other heroes. In the poem The Rape of the Lock Pope

Puritanism Vs Deism
In the mid to late 17th century, New England settlers were attempting to break away from Britain
and begin a new society. They wanted to reinvent their own culture, govern themselves, and begin
what they hoped would one day become a prosperous nation. One thing they wanted to have the
liberty of practicing was religion, and having the choice of which particular religions they wished to
follow. Puritanism and Deismwere two different religions that were practiced in 17th century New
England, and the differences between them sometimes were grounds for confrontations and
conflict. The Puritan standpoint depicted in the works of John Winthrop, Michael Wigglesworth,

This statement shows Franklin s view of our Creator, which is the belief that no evil existed in the
world, so humans were not created with the notion that they are unworthy and undeserving of God
s grace. Franklin goes on to say, And therefore every Creature must be equally esteem d by the
Creator (Franklin, 27). According to Deists, their God was not a biased God, and every human was
created equal, with no one having a better chance to make it to heaven than others.
The Puritan and Deist views on afterlife are also an area where these two religions are not in
sync with one another. Puritans believed in the concept of predestination, meaning that it was
determined whether one was going to spend afterlife in heaven or hell at the time of their
creation. In Day of Doom, Michael Wigglesworth, a minister in Massachusetts during the 17th
century, explains how there will come a day when Christ returns to earth to judge who will be
destined for heaven or doomed to hell. He writes that Christ explains to those who are being sent
to hell deserve their eternal punishment, despite the fact that it was a foregone conclusion due to
the fact that it had been predetermined. He also explains that in order to accept the offer of God s
salvation, one must be able to comprehend the meaning of such an offer. This puts certain
members of society at an obvious advantage over others. For example, a middle aged white male

Conflicting Styles Of Parenting Styles
Conflicting Styles of Parenting Parents will treat their children the way they see fit. In the
authoritarian parenting style, there is no room for freedom. In permissive parenting, there can be
more freedom than the children know what to do with. Authoritative parenting combines the gist of
both of the other styles and allows both freedom and structure. Both authoritarian and permissive
styles have components that authoritarian parents see as productive methods if used properly. Many

Chinese parents believe that their kids owe them everything (221). They do not expect their

their accomplishments as their payback. She says, Chinese children must spend their lives

Authoritarian parents want what is best for their children and they believe strict rules and harsh
consequences is the way to accomplish it. My father grew up with permissive parents. They were
not necessarily carefree, but they did not provide the structure and authority that is needed in a
household. When asking my dad about his childhood, he reminisces on many fun and reckless

America In Five Classes Essay
In the United States, people and their families are categorized in a class based on power, wealth
and occupational prestige. There are five categories in the United States that categorizes our nation
s people. The classification of our nation s status includes the poor, the near poor, the working
class, the middle class, and the upper Class.
The poor is classified when people are living below the poverty line set up by the U.S.
government. The poverty level adjusts for family size, and as of 2009 is $21,834 for a family of
two adults and two children (Brinkerhoff, Ortega, White, Weitz, 2011). The poor can be all types

The working class is labeled by blue collar industries. Occupations include truck driving,
factories, loading docks, maid services, and secretaries to name a few. The working class
income rarely increase, have a lower chance of promotion, jobs are less secure, and not as likely
to receive health insurance, benefits and pensions. Compensation varies in the working class
and can range to both the high and low spectrum of the middle class. Housing for the working
class is similar to the same as the middle class. The education level is most common as high
school graduate with little to none college. Most people in the working class are not as likely to
have benefits, health insurance or receive retirement and pensions. The birth in a working class
depends on if the mother has health insurance. Most likely health insurance is not provided to the
working class and childcare cost can be high. The care for both the mother and child would be
expensive and most working class people are not as likely to have a savings for added cost.
The middle class ranges from high school diploma to college degrees with lots of diversity. Jobs
have more security, benefits, time off paid, raises and promotions are more viable. Middle class
people are professionals could be salespersons, administrative assistants, and chefs to name a few.
Middle class people work with their children to teach values, rules, belong

The Importance Of Being A Good And Effective Leader
One very important aspect of being a good and effective leader includes valuing your employees
and being able to convey to each employee the value that they have to you and the company as an
individual. Christine Comaford wrote The Value of Valuing Employees discussing the importance
of valuing each employee and discussing six specific pitfalls leaders portray when it comes to
valuing employees. The pitfalls include, failing to respond to employee emails, failing to provide
feedback positive or negative, acknowledging people only when they make mistakes, failing to
celebrate victories, showing favoritism, and burning out employees.
Committing pitfalls in leadership The first pitfall Comaford (2013) discusses is Failing to
Respond to Employee Emails . This pitfall is essentially not making enough time to respond and

your employees email in a timely manner, or simply not responding at all makes the employees
mind panic and the employee begin to question themselves and their importance in the company. I

The Perception Of A Social Group
The ability to manipulate perception when it comes to social movements or collective action is
key. Not just for those on the outside looking in, but those who are participating as well. It not
only determines what a social group will do to invoke change, it will also affect how a society
will agree or disagree with the change. This manipulation of perception is best defined as
framing, and is more than just labeling something as good or bad. Pulling from the articles read
from this week the most convincing conceptualization of the term framing was the argument that
it consisted of three elements, with the first being the diagnosis of something as problematic and
need for alteration, followed by a proposed solution that specifies what needs to be done, and
finally a call to rational engagement in corrective action. (Snow Benford 1988) The first point
highlighted the importance of contention when it comes to collective action. Problems within any
given society are prevalent at all times, however, not until there is a call for a change does
collective action occur. Contention rests in the need for a change, whether or not opportunity is
the catalyst for contention is debatable, however the conceptualizing of framing laid out by Snow
and Benford also brings into question whether or not collective action is a choice rather than a
response. In the each of the three steps mentioned above there has to be a framing. There has to be
a framing of a situation as problematic and

Media And Corruption
Stop reading, the story ends. You go back to your life and believe whatever you want to believe.
Continue reading, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. This is
no joke, this is no movie, this is real life and you re in it. The American media system is innately
corrupt and built on the vain purposes of those who fuel it. The current mediaand journalism
deceives its viewers and manipulates them via twisting and warping topics on a historically
monumental scale causing a wide range of negative effects. The negative influences the media
has on young men and women corrodes their self image and deforms it. While attacking the
psyche of children it also promotes racism, xenophobia, and general fear in people from the
suburban level to the state level. This idea of promoting fear mongering leads to the separation of
people and country. In essence, journalism and the media as a whole have become a very
successful pro prejudice system where anything and everything is negative. In no way is it
ethically right to condone or support any media source, not for some freedom of information cause
or political agenda. The act of condoning the media and journalism admits to the legitimacy of said
media and in turn, condones such behavior. Admitting the media is a legitimate system is also

Already, marijuana is the second leading substance for which people receive drug treatment,
and a major cause for visits to hospital emergency rooms (Please Vote No). It has only been four
years since the legalization of recreational use of marijuana, and it is far too early to determine if
we should be the next experiment. Once the decision is made there would be no turning back,
and one wrong move is all that it takes to turn Arizona into a disaster like Colorado. The safest
course of action is to wait and watch. Before long, we will know the full range of impacts in
states such as Colorado and Washington that have already legalized recreational marijuana and
Arizona voters will have the ability to make a fully informed decision (Please Vote No). Voting
against proposition 205 will benefit Arizona, because of its negative impact on children, increase
rate of traffic fatalities, and the untruthful promise to provide tax money for

A Report On Telus Corporation
This first work term was done at Telus Corporation (also known as TELUS), one of the three major
telecommunications companies operating in Canada. The duration of the work term was spent
working in the Enterprise Architecture department as a Technology Architecture Assistant, and
working with the Wireless Development team as a temporary Software Tester. Working as a
Technology Architecture Assistant, main responsibilities included the managing of the content
within an internal department SharePoint site, aiding with the relaunching of a database
synchronization process, and the updating of charts report documents for the end of the first
quarter. First, the co op student was required to familiarize themselves with all the documents and
lists present on the internal department SharePoint site, and propose content which should be
deleted or archived due to no longer being relevant. By the end of the term, a means of identifying
content to clean up was derived, and the actual action of deletion and archiving was carried out.
Secondly, the student was required to studying a pre existing synchronization process that
previously took place in Microsoft Access which synchronized the contents of an external database
with a list in SharePoint. Since the synchronization process had stopped working prior to the
arrival of the co op student, the student was required to find a means to reproduce a working
version of the process. The third major task, the updating of charts and reports,

Write An Essay On Planarians
Planarians are bilaterally symmetric metazoans of the phylum Platyhelminthes usually found in
freshwater streams and ponds. Planarians have the ability to regenerate large regions of missing
structures and are useful for the investigation of anterior posterior (AP) polarity in occurrence with
molecular and cellular mechanisms. Regeneration involves integration of newly made self
assembled tissue into older pre existing tissues (Alvarado 2006). Adult somatic stem cells called
neoblasts that are distributed throughout the planarian body (Reddien and Alvarado 2004) allow for
the regeneration of individuals from minute fragments. Neoblasts are the only mitotically active
cells in planarians (Newmark and Alvarado 2000), and can generate any of the... Show more content

Three replicates of three specimens produced 18 separate fragments. However, only 6 anterior
fragments and 7 posterior fragments survived. Pairing is necessary for analysis of the anterior
versus posterior ratios to standardize the measurements. The planarians were kept in petri dishes
with water that was not changed from the day of the cut to the final measurements a week later,
and there was no feeding. Growth was measured using image J and key structures. The key
structure looked at for the anterior fragments was the point of the tail indicating that the wound
was healed. The key structures looked at for the posterior fragments were ocilli (eyespots), a
pharynx and auricles (sensory lobes). The tail will regenerate more quickly on the anterior fragment
than the head and the anterior trunk will on the posterior fragment, as fewer neoblasts will be
needed to regenerate the tail, and the latter fragment will contain less neoblasts to divide and create
the more complex structures of the head and the pharynx. If complexity slows the regeneration rate,
then the head and the anterior trunk will grow more slowly than the

Allen Ginsberg s Relationship With The Beat Movement
The Beat poets, in exploring the limits of the human experience and pushing the boundaries of
literature, often found themselves in stark opposition with the legal system. The poets explored the
boundaries of society, participating in illicit drug use, sexual expression, and other alternative ways
of life. This made the authors targets of the projection of unconstitutional laws based on the
conservative opinions of officials. Allen Ginsbergin particular experienced a arc of respect and
conformity with the law that often left his work the target of obscenity trials. As he grew older
Allen Ginsberg s relationship with the law evolved, taking larger and larger risks, and his
indoctrination with the Beat Movement caused increased confrontation... Show more content on

The work was met with huge praise from those in attendance and among his cohort. The piece
was originally intended to be a personal piece, not for public consumption. Ginsberg correctly
foreshadowed the backlash that occured after publishing due to the explicit nature of the
content and phrasing (Schumacher). However, Lawrence Ferlinghetti successfully published
the work in 1956. Early the next year, copies of the work were seized for the graphic content.
Allen Ginsberg s Howl was subjected to censorship trials shortly after its publishing. While
Ginsberg himself was not charged, the trial was an attack of his work and morals as a beat poet
and had the trial been successful, would have stifled Ginsberg s platform. The trial transcript
reveals that while Howl pushed the boundaries of American society, the work did not bear
content to be legally defined as unfit for publishing, but fell victim to the conservative views of
law enforcement officials (Morgan). Howl was prosecuted in 1957 for obscenity involving
discussions of homosexual and heterosexual sex, illegal drugs, and other Beat topics. Lines such a
who let themselves be fucked in the ass by saintly motorcyclists, and screamed with joy were
called out to be damaging to society (Ginsberg). Book sellers and Lawrence Ferlinghetti were
arrested for the distribution of obscene literature. The American Civil Liberties Union provided

Active Portfolio Management Strategy
Definition: In an active portfolio strategy, a manager uses financial and economic indicators along
with various other tools to forecast the market and achieve higher gains than a buy and hold
(passive) portfolio.
Tracking error is a measure of how closely a portfolio follows the index to which it is
benchmarked. The most common measure is the root mean square of the difference between the
portfolio and index returns.
Many portfolios are managed to a benchmark, normally an index. Some portfolios are expected to
replicate, before trading and other costs, the returns of an index exactly (an index fund), while
others are expected to actively manage the portfolio by deviating slightly from the index in order to
generate active returns or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thereafter, the investor would either choose a value based or growth based approach.
Active strategies require major adjustments to portfolios, trading to take advantage of interest rate
fluctuations, etc. There are five major active bond portfolio management strategies: 1. Interest rate
anticipation 2. Valuation analysis 3. Credit analysis 4. Yield spread analysis 5. bond swaps
In each strategy, the manager hops to outperform the buy and hold policy by using acumen, skill,
etc.
Interest Rate Anticipation
This is the riskiest strategy because the investor must act on uncertain forecasts of future interest
rates. The strategy is designed to preserve capital (lose as little as possible) when interest rates rise
(and bond prices drop) and to receive as much capital appreciation as possible when interest rates
drop (and bond prices rise).
These objectives can be obtained by altering the maturity or duration of their portfolios. Longer
maturity, or longer duration, portfolios will benefit the most from an interest rate decrease and vice
versa. Thus, if a manager expects an increase in interest rates, they would structure portfolio to have
the lowest possible duration.
The problem faced with this type of strategy is the risk of mis estimating interest rate movements. It

Blood Diamonds Sierra Leone Essay
Blood Diamonds Sierra Leone It is common to hear about war, terror, death and poverty, it is
common knowledge to know their meanings, but what right does one have to say they know the
reality of the words if they have never experienced it themselves, what does it really means to see
the death of someone in a war; to know the terror of not knowing if you are to live to see another
sunrise? Most do not know and are ignorant of the fact situations like this happens all around us;
happening now even in different countries. More and more death, destruction and human rights
being violated are happening in Sierra Leone because of its poor economic situation and the civil

There were no jobs even if you were educated, a 32 year old male ex combatant said (Archibald

and it is to run away from everything. Though, the choice is a poor decision, and now, instead of
a semi stable life, they lead a life of fighting and violence. Now, the women of Sierra Leone are
kept at the bottom of the social ladder by customary law (Archibald and Richards 10). To be kept
at the bottom because of being a different gender is belittling; barely being counted as a human
being with not even a third of the rights one should have. The population of both youth and
women seem to be in a process of characterized as the invention of human rights from below

community could intervene and help the youth and women, but it will not (Gordon 1). No one
would come to aid these people, to help them through the rough patches in their society, and, in
all, they were left to solve their own problems. Life in Sierra Leone was not close to being at a

Age Of Exploration During The Commercial Revolution
Age of Exploration (1350 1550) (Call to Freedom CTF)
The Commercial Revolution changed Europe by changing the way people did business in the
1200s. On page 33 in CTF, the second paragraph states During the Commercial Revolution,
however, merchants and craftspeople became more aggressive about making a profit. Many
Landlords wanted farmers to grow crops to be sold on their rented land. Cities grew rich from
specific things such as dying cloth in Florence and glassmaking in Venice. They also brought rare
goods from far away making many cities have rich trading centers. Not everybody could afford a
business because people were too obsessed with making money. Instead, they created joint stock
companies just in case their business didn t work out as planned. People opened banks to earn
capital from interest such as the Medici family. Europe reached a high point where many people
were wealthy and gained more power changing rising Europe s economy and power causing
many monopolies. There was also great growth in the merchant s class and towns/urban centers
(Page 33, CTF). The Commercial Revolution was greatly based off trade (CTF, PG. 35,
Paragraph 3 6) and many things were traveled via the Silk Road. When trading with other places,
people became interested in where these things were from so the explored and looked for these
places. Another reason for people exploring was that they wanted to spread Christianity.
The Renaissance changed Europe by giving motivation to learn

Time to Reduce Nuclear Dangers by Garwin and Gronlund
According to the Arms Control Association, as of 2013 there was roughly 15,494 deployed and
non deployed nuclear warheads between the five nuclear weapon states. The argument of
whether or not nuclear weapons should be reduced in the United States is starting to arise.
Nuclear weapons have the power to kill millions of people and lots of land. This is an issue that
can t be ignored. Nuclear weapons should be reduced in the United States because it s a danger to
the world and could ruin this Earth and eventually its people.
The United States can have fewer nuclear weapons without putting our nations security in
jeopardy. If we have just a little less nuclear power we could still have power over other
countries but not too much power. However, some may argue that having a lot of nuclear
weapons on and keeps the United States safe from harm. Robert Spalding said, The U.S. nuclear
force exists to keep a threshold on the level of violence. While nuclear weapons are a useful source
of defense, it s still overdone to the point where it s too much. The Pentagon, the headquarters of the
United States defense, even thinks the nation should reduce its nuclear weapon number. Garwin
and Gronlund said in their article, According to news reports, the Pentagon has concluded that the
United States can meet its security needs with fewer deployed weapons perhaps 1,000. If our
country isn t using our extra nuclear weapons, we could afford to get rid of only 1,000 of them. As
of November,

Cell-Free Dna Blood Testing Research Paper
This paper will discuss the reasons why it is beneficial to the mother, fetus, and the couple to have
prenatal testing done. Specifically, this paper will look at ultrasound, amniocentesis, and cell free
DNA blood testing. Also, the paper will show why the benefits outweigh the negative outcomes of
having these kinds of testing done. With any pregnancythe risk of a child having a chromosomal
abnormality is increased the later the mother conceives. Women over the age of 35 have been
shown to have a higher rate of children who were born with a chromosomal disease (The Gale
Encyclopedia of Genetic Disorders, 2010, 98). Some chromosomal abnormalities are more common
within this specific age group. They are Down Syndrome (trisomy 21),... Show more content on

Genetic amniocentesis is performed with the intention of testing for chromosomal abnormalities.
During this the loose skin cells that are floating around in the amniotic fluid are collected, then
sent to a lab, and from there they will be grown or cultured for a few weeks. After the skin cells
have had a chance to grow to a respectable size, the lab will test for chromosomal issues. For this
particular type of amniocentesis, the procedure is done while the woman is between her 15th and
19th week of pregnancy. Maturity amniocentesis is done on the amniotic fluid to test for the
maturity of the fetus lungs and whether they will be able to function during birth. Maturity is done
during the 32nd and 39th week of pregnancy when the doctor has concerned about the women being
able to carry to term (Harms, 2004). Other reasons amniocentesis may be used during the third
trimester is your healthcare provider may recommend the procedure if your membranes have
ruptured prematurely to assess for uterine infections. Amniocentesis may also help determine the
severity of fetal anemia in babies with Rh disease and assist your physician determine whether the
fetus requires life saving blood transfusions (American Pregnancy Association,

Essay about First Time Homebuyers
First Time Homebuyers
LAS 30012
Ms. James Etta Goodloe
5/23/13
Abstract
There is always the common question what does it take to get a first time home buyers loan?
And the answer is there is so much that goes into the process of getting a home loan. You have to
find out if there is a down payment and what percentage the seller wants for a down payment. Is
the seller going to pay the closing costs or does that come out of your pocket? All these questions
and more are what go into getting a home loan.
First Time Homebuyer
No one really realizes the time and patience it takes to get a first time home buyers loan. The first
and most critical step in homeownership is getting the right mindset. This principally involves ...

Well, that depends on a number of factors, including the cost of the house and the type of mortgage
you get. In general, you need to come up with enough money to cover three costs: earnest money
the deposit you make on the home when you submit your offer, to prove to the seller that you are
serious about wanting to buy the house; the down payment, a percentage of the cost of the home
that you must pay when you go to settlement; and closing costs, the costs associated with
processing the paperwork to buy a house. When you make an offer on a home, your real estate
broker will put your earnest money into an escrow account. If the offer is accepted, your earnest
money will be applied to the down payment or closing costs. If your offer is not accepted, your
money will be returned to you. The amount of your earnest money varies. If you buy a HUD
home, for example, your deposit generally will range from $500 $2,000. The more money you can
put into your down payment, the lower your mortgage payments will be. Generally most banks
will want a 10% to 20% payment to put down towards your loan. The more money you can put into
your down payment, the lower your mortgage payments will be.
New loan offerings make it easier to buy a home, but harder to pick which mortgage is right for
you. The standard 30 year fixed rate mortgage allows predictable payments. If you re planning on
moving quickly, consider an adjustable rate mortgage, which has low

  • 2. Analysis Of George Bernard Shaw Declares s There Is No... George Bernard Shaw declares there is no love sincerer than the love of food. However, with the love of food, there generally appear desires for an accommodation of a satisfying environment for further appreciation of the food. For those seeking such sorts, Harry s, a locally owned restaurant in Moss Bluff, deserves recommendation on account of the comfortable atmosphere, pleasant food served, and the friendly staff. The restaurant building rests in the same concrete lot as a Five Star Quick Stop convenience store off of highway 171 of Moss Bluff. To the right of the convenience store is Joe Miller Road. To the left of Five Star is Harry s and it connects directly to a casino. The casino and the restaurant are owned by the same people. The white tin like roof on the building provides a contrast to three maroon signs separated by two green signs propped adjacent to them, capturing the attention of those passing by. Wrapping around the red bricked restaurant and casino are several yellow lines that fill with a variety of vehicles. Four blacked out windows situated directly under the large maroon sign displaying Harry s Restaurant in a creamy white font decorate the building s face. Approximately two feet of bricks separate the windows and the black glass door entrance. Upon entering the restaurant stands a brown booth on the left. From behind the booth a rather youthful and welcoming female greets guests walking in through the glass doors. Despite the somewhat tight ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. People s Understanding Of Food People s understanding of food is shaped by many different things. For example, a Wendy s Power Mediterranean Chicken Salad, Half sized would be viewed differently by what a person considers healthy , how they want their body to look like, where they come from, their income level, and whether they are male or female. Wendy s description of its salad says Here s the nutrient rich, protein packed fuel you need to power through your day. Always fresh grilled chicken teams up with a savory ensemble of feta cheese, hummus, and sundried tomato quinoa blend to take this salad to the next level. This product is available at participating locations. It has 230 calories, 5 grams of fiber, and 20 grams of protein. When it comes to health and the Wendy s salad I view it as a healthier option compared to the rest of the menu. I would pick this when I feel like eating something that I would consider is good for me and giving me nutrients. It would make me feel better about myself if I eat the salad over a cheesburger or chicken nuggets. Someone like Michael Pollan would view this salad as a healthier option than anything else on the Wendy s menu since it is more plant based with the lettuce, but he probably still would not recommend it. In his 9 pieces of advice he claims Avoid even those food products that come bearing health claims (Pollan 13). In the wendy s description it includes many health claims like nutrient rich , Always fresh , and low amount of calories. Pollan ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In The Crucible we learn of several characters causing these crucial events to unfold. In the beginning they both attempt to expose the witchcraft. In act 3 Hale s motive influences his goal to give the truth. Opposing this, Parris s goal is also influenced by his motive, to save his name. Hale tells them that life is God s most important thing, he says God would rather the accused lie then be stubborn with their pride and tell the real truth. Parris must feel guilt towards the accused persons and therefore he tries getting them to save themselves by admitting. Obviously Parris s guilt is not enough to get him to override his lies about the supposed witches, but it is enough to try to get them to admit to the charges and save themselves. Moscow Metro Escalator Accident ( 1982 ) Moscow Metro Escalator Accident (1982) Peter Brearley 5 December, 2016 Fig.1 1 1 Introduction Aviamotornaya is a metro station situated in Moscow, Russia. On February 17, 1982, only three years after the opening of the station, an escalator caused a significant disaster that killed 8 people and injured at least 30. It is said to be the largest escalator accident to date. This report is going to assess the causation of the disaster, looking at the human and mechanical faults. It will then discuss how regulations attempt to minimise occurrences such as this, before discussing how Soviet secrecy has influenced aftermath, and the consequential impact on engineering development. 2 Summary of Events Just as rush hour was getting underway at about 4:30pm, escalator number 4 was switched on. A single step on the escalator came loose. The step remained loose for approximately half an hour, completing many complete cycles of the escalator in this time. Ultimately, the loose step got caught in the upper mechanism of the escalator. As a result, the step deformed the working gears and drive mechanism. The gearing is responsible for regulating the speed of the escalator; once it was mangled and no longer working the escalator picked up a lot of speed due to the weight of the many passengers currently riding it. The nervous passengers were then traveling down the metro at worrying speeds, still accelerating. Ordinarily, this would not be a problem, as escalators are fitted with safety ... Johnson had come from a southern, rural family, while Tan had come from a Chinese family living in America. Johnson wrote the short story White Trash Primer, which is from the book Trespasses: A Memoir, and Tan s Two Kinds is an excerpt from her book The Joy Luck Club . Even though these authors are entirely different, they share similar qualities in their writing styles such as language, imagery and symbolism. They also share a connected message which is that whatever you do, no matter if it is something hard or if you are going through hard times, as long as you try your best you will be able to achieve your goal. In Johnson s White Trash Primer, Johnson tells the story of living on a farm, growing up in a poor family and going through hard times. Johnson tells how she overcomes the obstacles that she had to deal with in her life. • 13. The Constructivist Theory and Brain Development Essay The idea of epigenesis has become well known as an integral part of the constructivist theory which states that neural activity within the brain is largely spontaneous, driven by genetic and molecular instances (Mareschal, D., Johnson, M.H., Grayson, A., 2004). However, after birth, the neural activity is influenced by sensory and motor experience and the outside environment (Mareschal et al, 2004). Epigenesis is what the constructivist theory is about, the interaction between genes and the environment. A study done by Petersen et al used PET, or positron emission tomography, to understand the responses of native English adult speakers to written stimuli in the form of English words, pseudowords or words that had no meaning but could... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During development, the temporal lobe is most responsible for responding to auditory (hearing) information, however for those who cannot hear, this section was used for a different sense (Mareschal et al, 2004). This shows that the temporal lobe in the brain, although genetically made to hear, had used the child s sensory experience to become prominently involved with visual processing, or in other words, adapted to the environment that the child was in. If the brain was already made for development and not influenced by the outside world and environment, it would seem to be nearly impossible for a hearing part of the brain to adapt to only visual processing. Lastly, there was a study done by Mills that tested language acquisition in children, which also showed a link to epigenesis in development. This study concluded that with experience, certain types of processing in the brain are performed by more localised regions of the cortex (Mills, D.M, Coffey, S.A, Neville, H.J., 1993). The researchers collected data from ERPs that suggested processing of small words and control stimuli is spread over a large area of the cortex at first, however, this processing narrows to an area over the left temporal lobe only when the child s vocabulary reaches about 200 words, regardless of the child s age (Mareschal et al, 2004). One could argue that if this narrowing of processing of words happens at a particular age, then that area of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Portrayal of Women in Rap and Music Videos Essay Misogyny and degradation of women is present in almost every genre of music, yet the one genre that completely revolves around demeaning women is rap. Over the years rap and rap music videos have continually become more sexual and degrading towards women. Rap has been criticized numerous times for this reason, and that is because rap is one of the most popular genres of music for the younger generations. It is more than a genre of music, it is a complete industry filled with clothing and other merchandise. The reason this constant demeaning of women exists is because rap as a genre that rewards the objectification of women. A rapper couldn t use a line describing what she did in the movie, let alone film it in a video, without getting heat for it (Keyes 256). While some may choose to side with this argument, rap truly takes sexual portrayal of women in both music videos and songs to the next level. In rap music videos, diamond covered rappers stand next to cars as scantily dressed women dance around them. This is the premise of the majority of rap music videos and both young girls and boys all over the world see the constant objectification of women in these videos. Naturally this concerns the parents of these kids, and many critics believes that the images kids see on T.V directly correlate to their development and thinking: exposure to rap music videos, which is explicit about sex and violence and rarely shows the potential long term adverse effects of risky behavior, may influence adolescents by modeling thee unhealthy practices (Thrash). Parents should become more aware of these videos, and make sure that their young daughters are not watching them. Yet, once they get to the age where they could be recruited for these videos it is important that they are educated about this industry. Looking at four population samples, Klonsky, May and Glenn, further looked at the relation between NSSI and suicide attempts. They found that NSSI predicted future suicide attempts more than any other risk factor, except for suicidal ideation. This shows that NSSI is a serious risk factor for suicide and shows an individual s increased capability for harming oneself, which needs to be taken into consideration when looking at suicide prevention (Klonsky, May, Glenn, 2013). They also found, amongst the four populations, that amongst adolescent females, NSSI is significantly more common than with adolescent males, compared to the college and adult populations, where neither females nor males significantly engaged in NSSI more than the other (Klonsky et al., 2013). Another study looked at implicit attitudes between adolescents who engaged in either NSSI or had a suicide attempt (Dickstein et al., 2015). The main purpose of this study was to see how NSSI and suicide attempts can be understood distinctly and uncorrelated. They found that adolescents who had NSSI had a stronger association with cutting as well as with thinking about death, while adolescents who had attempted suicide only had associations with death (Dickstein et al., 2015). John Bott, the vice president of sales disagreed with the budget allocation and noted that sales expenses and administration cost were projected to be $65,000 in 2008. This led him to believe that an additional sales representative would be needed to service company accounts because 50 were being added. Therefore he estimated this addition would cost at least $70,000 including salary and expenses in 2008. Bott also stated that That s about $135,000 in additional sales expense that have to be added to our promotional budget for 2008 My recommendation is that they do not invest the additional $225,000 in consumer advertising. If all American citizens do agree to abide by the rules implemented by the United States, the freedom that they came here for would be nonexistent, and they would no longer have the ability to truly live the infamous American dream . He explains that even though the one percent of the United States population is living a prosperous life, the remaining ninety nine percent are being hurt by this reality (Stiglitz 8). From this it can be concluded that the regulations currently being pressed upon the majority of the population are hurting more than benefitting. Capitalism is defined as an economic and political system in which a country s trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state (Oxford Dictionary 1). There has been a longing to find a balance between this and socialism. The laissez faire is the commonly known economic idea of a government refraining from interfering in the free market in order to allow the people to control their own means of production and selling of goods. Williams and Miller characterize Blanche and Eddie through their sexuality, which is a very important theme in both plays. The main tension experienced in A View from the Bridge is due to the great contrast between how Eddie sees Catherine, and how she sees him. Alexander Pope s The Rape of the Lock is a famous mock epic. In it, there is invocation to Muses, proposition of subject, battles, supernatural machinery, journey on water, underworld journey, long speeches, feasts (coffee house), Homeric similes and grand style but all for a simple family dispute instead of a national struggle. The grand treatment of a low subject produces hilarious laughter and makes the story more ridiculous. Firstly, Paradise Lost is a long epic poem by John Milton begins with the proposition of justification of God s way to man with nice invocation to the Muses. And another epic poem titled The Faerie Queene by Edmund Spenser follows the same manner. The subject matters in both of the epic poems are grand. Like the epic poems, the poem The Rape of the Lock opens with the proposition of the subject matter and Pope s invocation to the Muses to help him compose the literary art. Not just for those on the outside looking in, but those who are participating as well. It not only determines what a social group will do to invoke change, it will also affect how a society will agree or disagree with the change. This manipulation of perception is best defined as framing, and is more than just labeling something as good or bad. Pulling from the articles read from this week the most convincing conceptualization of the term framing was the argument that it consisted of three elements, with the first being the diagnosis of something as problematic and need for alteration, followed by a proposed solution that specifies what needs to be done, and finally a call to rational engagement in corrective action. (Snow Benford 1988) The first point highlighted the importance of contention when it comes to collective action. Problems within any given society are prevalent at all times, however, not until there is a call for a change does collective action occur. Contention rests in the need for a change, whether or not opportunity is the catalyst for contention is debatable, however the conceptualizing of framing laid out by Snow and Benford also brings into question whether or not collective action is a choice rather than a response. It has only been four years since the legalization of recreational use of marijuana, and it is far too early to determine if we should be the next experiment. Once the decision is made there would be no turning back, and one wrong move is all that it takes to turn Arizona into a disaster like Colorado. The safest course of action is to wait and watch. Before long, we will know the full range of impacts in states such as Colorado and Washington that have already legalized recreational marijuana and Arizona voters will have the ability to make a fully informed decision (Please Vote No). • 40. A Report On Telus Corporation This first work term was done at Telus Corporation (also known as TELUS), one of the three major telecommunications companies operating in Canada. The duration of the work term was spent working in the Enterprise Architecture department as a Technology Architecture Assistant, and working with the Wireless Development team as a temporary Software Tester. Working as a Technology Architecture Assistant, main responsibilities included the managing of the content within an internal department SharePoint site, aiding with the relaunching of a database synchronization process, and the updating of charts report documents for the end of the first quarter. First, the co op student was required to familiarize themselves with all the documents and lists present on the internal department SharePoint site, and propose content which should be deleted or archived due to no longer being relevant. By the end of the term, a means of identifying content to clean up was derived, and the actual action of deletion and archiving was carried out. Secondly, the student was required to studying a pre existing synchronization process that previously took place in Microsoft Access which synchronized the contents of an external database with a list in SharePoint. Since the synchronization process had stopped working prior to the arrival of the co op student, the student was required to find a means to reproduce a working version of the process. • 42. Write An Essay On Planarians Planarians are bilaterally symmetric metazoans of the phylum Platyhelminthes usually found in freshwater streams and ponds. Planarians have the ability to regenerate large regions of missing structures and are useful for the investigation of anterior posterior (AP) polarity in occurrence with molecular and cellular mechanisms. Regeneration involves integration of newly made self assembled tissue into older pre existing tissues (Alvarado 2006). Adult somatic stem cells called neoblasts that are distributed throughout the planarian body (Reddien and Alvarado 2004) allow for the regeneration of individuals from minute fragments. Neoblasts are the only mitotically active cells in planarians (Newmark and Alvarado 2000), and can generate any of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Three replicates of three specimens produced 18 separate fragments. However, only 6 anterior fragments and 7 posterior fragments survived. Pairing is necessary for analysis of the anterior versus posterior ratios to standardize the measurements. The planarians were kept in petri dishes with water that was not changed from the day of the cut to the final measurements a week later, and there was no feeding. Growth was measured using image J and key structures. The key structure looked at for the anterior fragments was the point of the tail indicating that the wound was healed. The key structures looked at for the posterior fragments were ocilli (eyespots), a pharynx and auricles (sensory lobes). The tail will regenerate more quickly on the anterior fragment than the head and the anterior trunk will on the posterior fragment, as fewer neoblasts will be needed to regenerate the tail, and the latter fragment will contain less neoblasts to divide and create the more complex structures of the head and the pharynx. If complexity slows the regeneration rate, then the head and the anterior trunk will grow more slowly than the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Allen Ginsberg s Relationship With The Beat Movement The Beat poets, in exploring the limits of the human experience and pushing the boundaries of literature, often found themselves in stark opposition with the legal system. The poets explored the boundaries of society, participating in illicit drug use, sexual expression, and other alternative ways of life. This made the authors targets of the projection of unconstitutional laws based on the conservative opinions of officials. Allen Ginsbergin particular experienced a arc of respect and conformity with the law that often left his work the target of obscenity trials. As he grew older Allen Ginsberg s relationship with the law evolved, taking larger and larger risks, and his indoctrination with the Beat Movement caused increased confrontation... The piece was originally intended to be a personal piece, not for public consumption. Ginsberg correctly foreshadowed the backlash that occured after publishing due to the explicit nature of the content and phrasing (Schumacher). However, Lawrence Ferlinghetti successfully published the work in 1956. Early the next year, copies of the work were seized for the graphic content. Allen Ginsberg s Howl was subjected to censorship trials shortly after its publishing. While Ginsberg himself was not charged, the trial was an attack of his work and morals as a beat poet and had the trial been successful, would have stifled Ginsberg s platform. The trial transcript reveals that while Howl pushed the boundaries of American society, the work did not bear content to be legally defined as unfit for publishing, but fell victim to the conservative views of law enforcement officials (Morgan). Howl was prosecuted in 1957 for obscenity involving discussions of homosexual and heterosexual sex, illegal drugs, and other Beat topics. • 44. Active Portfolio Management Strategy Definition: In an active portfolio strategy, a manager uses financial and economic indicators along with various other tools to forecast the market and achieve higher gains than a buy and hold (passive) portfolio. Tracking error is a measure of how closely a portfolio follows the index to which it is benchmarked. The most common measure is the root mean square of the difference between the portfolio and index returns. Many portfolios are managed to a benchmark, normally an index. Some portfolios are expected to replicate, before trading and other costs, the returns of an index exactly (an index fund), while others are expected to actively manage the portfolio by deviating slightly from the index in order to generate active returns or ... Active strategies require major adjustments to portfolios, trading to take advantage of interest rate fluctuations, etc. There are five major active bond portfolio management strategies: 1. Interest rate anticipation 2. Valuation analysis 3. Credit analysis 4. Yield spread analysis 5. bond swaps In each strategy, the manager hops to outperform the buy and hold policy by using acumen, skill, etc. Interest Rate Anticipation This is the riskiest strategy because the investor must act on uncertain forecasts of future interest rates. The strategy is designed to preserve capital (lose as little as possible) when interest rates rise (and bond prices drop) and to receive as much capital appreciation as possible when interest rates drop (and bond prices rise). These objectives can be obtained by altering the maturity or duration of their portfolios. Longer maturity, or longer duration, portfolios will benefit the most from an interest rate decrease and vice versa. Thus, if a manager expects an increase in interest rates, they would structure portfolio to have the lowest possible duration. The problem faced with this type of strategy is the risk of mis estimating interest rate movements. It is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Age Of Exploration During The Commercial Revolution Age of Exploration (1350 1550) (Call to Freedom CTF) The Commercial Revolution changed Europe by changing the way people did business in the 1200s. On page 33 in CTF, the second paragraph states During the Commercial Revolution, however, merchants and craftspeople became more aggressive about making a profit. Many Landlords wanted farmers to grow crops to be sold on their rented land. Cities grew rich from specific things such as dying cloth in Florence and glassmaking in Venice. They also brought rare goods from far away making many cities have rich trading centers. Not everybody could afford a business because people were too obsessed with making money. Instead, they created joint stock companies just in case their business didn t work out as planned. People opened banks to earn capital from interest such as the Medici family. Europe reached a high point where many people were wealthy and gained more power changing rising Europe s economy and power causing many monopolies. There was also great growth in the merchant s class and towns/urban centers (Page 33, CTF). The Commercial Revolution was greatly based off trade (CTF, PG. 35, Paragraph 3 6) and many things were traveled via the Silk Road. When trading with other places, people became interested in where these things were from so the explored and looked for these places. • 49. Time to Reduce Nuclear Dangers by Garwin and Gronlund According to the Arms Control Association, as of 2013 there was roughly 15,494 deployed and non deployed nuclear warheads between the five nuclear weapon states. The argument of whether or not nuclear weapons should be reduced in the United States is starting to arise. Nuclear weapons have the power to kill millions of people and lots of land. This is an issue that can t be ignored. Nuclear weapons should be reduced in the United States because it s a danger to the world and could ruin this Earth and eventually its people. The United States can have fewer nuclear weapons without putting our nations security in jeopardy. If we have just a little less nuclear power we could still have power over other countries but not too much power. However, some may argue that having a lot of nuclear weapons on and keeps the United States safe from harm. Robert Spalding said, The U.S. nuclear force exists to keep a threshold on the level of violence. While nuclear weapons are a useful source of defense, it s still overdone to the point where it s too much. The Pentagon, the headquarters of the United States defense, even thinks the nation should reduce its nuclear weapon number. Garwin and Gronlund said in their article, According to news reports, the Pentagon has concluded that the United States can meet its security needs with fewer deployed weapons perhaps 1,000. If our country isn t using our extra nuclear weapons, we could afford to get rid of only 1,000 of them. As of November, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Specifically, this paper will look at ultrasound, amniocentesis, and cell free DNA blood testing. Also, the paper will show why the benefits outweigh the negative outcomes of having these kinds of testing done. With any pregnancythe risk of a child having a chromosomal abnormality is increased the later the mother conceives. Women over the age of 35 have been shown to have a higher rate of children who were born with a chromosomal disease (The Gale Encyclopedia of Genetic Disorders, 2010, 98). During this the loose skin cells that are floating around in the amniotic fluid are collected, then sent to a lab, and from there they will be grown or cultured for a few weeks. After the skin cells have had a chance to grow to a respectable size, the lab will test for chromosomal issues. For this particular type of amniocentesis, the procedure is done while the woman is between her 15th and 19th week of pregnancy. Maturity amniocentesis is done on the amniotic fluid to test for the maturity of the fetus lungs and whether they will be able to function during birth. Maturity is done during the 32nd and 39th week of pregnancy when the doctor has concerned about the women being able to carry to term (Harms, 2004). Is the seller going to pay the closing costs or does that come out of your pocket? All these questions and more are what go into getting a home loan. This principally involves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Well, that depends on a number of factors, including the cost of the house and the type of mortgage you get. In general, you need to come up with enough money to cover three costs: earnest money the deposit you make on the home when you submit your offer, to prove to the seller that you are serious about wanting to buy the house; the down payment, a percentage of the cost of the home that you must pay when you go to settlement; and closing costs, the costs associated with processing the paperwork to buy a house. When you make an offer on a home, your real estate broker will put your earnest money into an escrow account. If the offer is accepted, your earnest money will be applied to the down payment or closing costs. If your offer is not accepted, your money will be returned to you. The amount of your earnest money varies. If you buy a HUD home, for example, your deposit generally will range from $500 $2,000. The more money you can put into your down payment, the lower your mortgage payments will be. Generally most banks will want a 10% to 20% payment to put down towards your loan. The more money you can put into your down payment, the lower your mortgage payments will be. New loan offerings make it easier to buy a home, but harder to pick which mortgage is right for you.
