Overview and Challenges of Indian Gaming in San Diego
The history of Native American tribes is a long, complicated, and more often than not, a sad one.
Today, thanks to efforts to help tribes preserve their identity, culture and numbers by means of
reservations, many Native Americans not only survive, but also thrive. Indian gaming is one means
that has been a source of great income and prosperity for Native American tribes in the San Diego
region. Although the economic impact of gaming has been very positive, critics of legalizing and
regulating such casinos have expressed concerns regarding potentially negative impacts. While Indian
gaming in San Diego has positive impacts for the economy and upliftment of Indian tribes, negative
impacts could relate to industry monopolization. According to the National Gambling Impact Study
Commission Report (n.d.), large scale Indian casino gambling had its origins in 1987. During this
year, the Supreme Court found hat the state of California had no authority over gambling activities
within Indian reservations. The Court also recognized the need for regulation, however, and Congress
passed the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (AGRA) in 1988. One of the provisions of the act requires
that revenues from gambling be used for the economic development and welfare of Indian tribes in
their region. This has been one of the primary advantages of Indian gaming in California in general
and in San Diego specifically. This is evident in the Barona reservation, where gaming has had
significant impacts

Changes in Policy after School Shootings
Policies have changed since the shooting happened in Littleton, Colorado. Before Columbine the
primary goal of law enforcement officers before and during a shooting was to set up a perimeter and
await arrival of SWAT members (Erickson, 2001). This policy has changed in many states including
Pennsylvania where police had been preparing for active shooters with local schools. Police are not
able to wait the twenty minutes to an hour for SWAT to arrive at a scene which is why the state
mandated that local police receive active shooting training (Coughlin, 2012). This response and a
brochure that the Department of Homeland Security came out with are allowing schools a better
chance of eliminating a shooter with less causalities and injuries. This brochure goes into to profile of
an active shooter, how to respond to an active shooter, how to respond when law enforcement arrives,
training staff for an active shooter, preparing for and managing an active shooter situation, recognizing
workplace violence, managing the consequences of an active shooter, and lessons learned (DHS,
2008). Recommendations were made following the shooting to implement a command center with
personnel able to take command at the beginning of a crisis, control assembled personnel, and to
communicate objectives clearly (Erickson, 2001). This came after the failure of law enforcement to set
up a successful command center whereas Fire and EMS successfully instituted an incident command
center based on

Creating a Sustainable Food Program For Hughson High School If campuses over forty two years old
are not considered a green campus, then what does that make Hughson High School at one hundred
and four years old? For the three years that we have been at Hughson High School, we have witnessed
resources from the school s cafeteria being wasted and pollution increasing daily. Hughson High
School has the opportunity to become a sustainable campus by having the dining services and school
farm promote more sustainable food, yet resources are squandered and the expenses are rising. Taking

the school were to serve freshly grown fruits and vegetables from the school s ag. department and
from farms located in hughson in the cafeteria, would you be more open and willing to eat in the
school s cafeteria? One hundred and ninety students answered Yes while nine students answered No.
The students who answered yes were, without a doubt, in agreement and happily welcomed the idea of
fresh food served in our school s cafeteria. The students who answered no were the ones who will

idea, bringing in our freshly grown crops into the cafeteria would benefit

Good Reputation Research Paper
A reputation is the recognition or impression of a person without getting the chance to meet who it is.
Reputations are important because it shows the respect others have for someone whether that is a
stranger or a friend. It also affects how an individual is judged through first impressions. Overall, a
reputation is an expectation of what a person is known to be, and how one opinion can have a drastic
effect on someone else s life.
To me, reputations are people s expectation of what an individual is as a whole. Whether the
characteristic a person embodies is good or bad, others are quick to judge. For example, I have the
reputation of being responsible. To most of my friends, I m known for getting my work done on time
while getting a good night s rest. What they don t know, I m scrambling to get my work done because
of procrastination, to go to bed at a reasonable hour. Therefore proving, people expect me to be a
certain way when they don t know the whole truth. Overall, a reputation is a way to see how ... Show

Socrates, the famous Greek philosopher, said, The way to gain a good reputation is to endeavor to be
what you desire to appear . In other words, a person receives a good reputation by searching a way to
feel comfortable with how they want others to perceive them. Yet, another s judgment can affect the
outcome of how someone wants their reputation to be. Without the respect of others, a person can be
in solitude, shying away from social contact.
Therefore, a reputation is just an opinion of what someone is supposed to be and the effect their
respect can have on another person. I believe a reputation is just a way to file someone under a
category to distinguish who that person is as a whole. Along with that, the respect or opinion to an
individual has the ability to change how others perceive them. Although reputations aren t reputable
themselves, they can affect lives for better or

Anne Bradstreet Tone
It is not a secret that women in the seventeenth century were oppressed. Puritan society deemed
women to be useful mainly within the household. It was very uncommon for women to be respected
as authors or even be educated enough to do so. Anne Bradstreet s The Prologue was a controversial
work for a woman in Puritan society, as it challenged men to share the literary world with women.
Through heavy sarcasm and self deprecation, Bradstreet defends women writers from the criticism of
men. The sarcastic tone of the poem starts right at the first stanza. The speaker begins the poem by
stating that she will not be writing about wars or kings. She finds that poets and historians, or rather
men, are better equipped to handle such topics than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the self deprecating tone she has been carrying is not yet put to rest. She writes, Men can do
best, and Women know it well, which makes the poem a bit less scandalous, but to some may seem to
be thickly laced with sarcasm (37). She tells the readers that men were, by nature, given the tools to
succeed rather than women, yet still manages to demand that men acknowledge that women are
capable writers as well with Yet grant some small acknowledgement of ours (42). The concluding
stanza also attempts to earn women the right to play the same game as men, while also trying not to
make the men feel threatened. Bradstreet writes that the men can keep the bays of a great poet, her
speaker would rather have a wreath made out of typical cooking spices. This relates back to the
domestic duties women were expected to perform in Puritan society. She tries to make her male
readers more accepting with the final two line of the poem: This mean and unrefined ore of mine/Will
make your glist ring gold but more to shine (47 8). Bradstreet argues that if women were given the
same respect in terms of writing as men, it wouldn t take from the male writers. In fact, it would make
the men seem even more talented than they already are when compared to women

I Work For A Great Company
I work for a great company. Malarkey Roofing Products has been in the roofing products business for
over 60 years, both manufacturing and distributing quality roofing materials. We have a sales force of
over 60 sales representatives, three manufacturing plants, and a few hundred administrative and union
workers. Our products are distributed globally and we continue to expand into new markets; which
makes it imperative that our company run like a well oiled machine. A company this size requires a lot
of teamwork between individuals, departments and management. But, as we continue to grow, I am
seeing divisions in all of these areas, which makes it difficult to operate on a day to day basis.
When I began reading The Five Dysfunctions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If that is the case, the overall goals should be readdressed and more specific. But I digress. The true
issue is the lack of a common company goal or vision and determining where that comes from.
One of the major areas I see my team struggle with is this idea of the fourth dysfunction, which is the
avoidance of accountability. This can be seen when an employee can give you departmental goals, but
not necessarily the company s goals or visions. Up until recently, our company operated under a silo
mentality . In other words, each department was operating independently of each other, with no regard
to what the other departments were doing. Nobody knew what anyone else was responsible for, or
how our departments worked together, thereby eliminating the ability to hold each other accountable.
Brent Gleeson points out that this concept is not healthy for any business. This type of mentality will
reduce efficiency in the overall operation, reduce morale, and may contribute to the demise of a
productive company culture (Gleeson Rozo, 2013, para. 1) When we cannot hold each other
accountable, we cannot reach a common goal. We begin to operate without a vision or operate with
very limited vision, placing the overall goals of the company as more of a suggestion than a goal.
My department (a team of five people) struggled with our

Oklahoma Abortion Debate
Why the Oklahoma Abortion Bill is Unethical
Women, for centuries, have not been allowed to make decisions regarding their bodies. Finally, when
the end of the fight is within reach, steps backward are taken. Oklahoma recently passed a bill
requiring the father to approve an abortion procedure, the only time that the father s permission is not
required is in rape cases, and fetuses that have been diagnosed with down syndrome cannot be
aborted. When asked about the bill, Oklahoma Rep. Justin Humphrey stated:
I believe one of the breakdowns in our society is that we have excluded the man out of all of these
types of decisions, I understand that they feel like that is their body, I feel like it is a separate what I

76% of the turnaways ended up on unemployment benefits, as opposed to the 44% of women who had
abortions. ( Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health , 2014) The same study found that
women unable to obtain abortions were more likely to stay in a relationship with an abusive partner
than women who had an abortion, and were more than twice as likely to become victims of domestic
violence (Annalee Newitz). Turning away women that cannot get their husbands or boyfriends to give
their approval for a safe abortion is unfair in every aspect.
A woman could do everything in her power to not get pregnant and still end up with a child, but there
are not many preventative matters on the guy s end. The Oklahoma Abortion Bill was put into place
because they wanted to bring men back into the decision making
Two committees were paying close attention to the study, and they realized that a lot of guys were
dropping out because they were experiencing side effects. The most common side effect was acne, and
sometimes that acne was pretty severe. Some men also developed mood swings and in some cases
those mood swings got pretty bad. One man developed severe depression, and another tried to commit
suicide. Because of that, they cut the study short (NPR

What Are The Similarities Between The Scottsboro Trials...
I think that Harper Lee was inspired by the events of the Scottsboro Boys to write To Kill a

very similar to people that were involved in the Scottsboro Boys trials. The setting in a small Alabama
town are similar and that both of the accoused rapes are both under similar circumstances that a black
man was accused by a white women. This essay will be comparing characters from the book to real
people from the Scottsboro Boys trials. Including Haywood Patterson, Tom Robinson, Victoria Price,

At one point in the trial they brought in a model train and told her to tell them where she was sitting
on the train compared to the boys that she said raped her. She said that she wasn t on that train and she
was on the bigger train that looked like that one. This shows that she was very uneducated just like
Mayella Ewell. During most of the trials Victoria would normally make a lot of jokes about things that
everyone was asking her. Mayella Ewell Was very afraid when she testified and basically just said
what her father said and was very hesitant and glanced over at her father before she answered any of
Atticus s questions. You learned that she had a very sad life and was a 19 year old girl who didn t have
any friends and claimed that Atticus was making fun of her when he asked if she had any friends or
addressed her as Ms. Mayella or ma am. Near the end of the testimony she broke her oath to tell the
truth when she just stopped talking to all of them and run of the witness stand, down to her spot next
to her father. After hearing both of them testify you start to notice that there are some blank spaces
between their stories that don t make any sense. For example Victoria said that she was on the train
when she was raped but later said that they put her on the gravel and there wasn t any gravel on the
train. Or

The Values Of Michelangelo Buonarroti s Reputance
Reputation is an opinion about entity (a person, a social group, an organization), typically a result of
social evaluation on a set of criteria. Also, reputation may be considered as a component of identity as
defined by others [ ]. This essay will talk about a very famous Italian Renaissance artist, considering
the circumstances in which such artist had established his reputation. The essay intends to explain the
values of the Renaissance era and their qualities, and then to apply this knowledge specifically to the
reputation of Michelangelo Buonarroti, the Italian sculptor, painter, architect and poet.
The essay first describes the qualities of the Renaissance values in question, then focuses on the
specific effects they had on Michelangelo. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His work received traditional criticism as irreligious in terms of its emphasis on the naked human
body; since it is presented not as a religious figure but as a real human. His frescos and paintings
contained many completely naked characters. In response to such uncommon arts, Roman Catholic
Cardinal accused him of immorality and obscenity. The extreme concern for preserving morals led the
Cardinal to call for a campaign to have the work removed or censored. Michelangelo was also
criticized for his artistic choices, including his emphasis on the physical rather than the spiritual
element.
In many ways, the Michelangelo style was considered by others frivolous because instead of the focus
on religion or the social concerns, the subjects were often contemporaries exploring humanism which
was not accepted in Italy at that time. In fact, most of his paintings including David were considered
antithetical to the classical tradition of

Zeus Role In Greek Society
Throughout Greek myths, Zeus plays a highly important role because he is the king of the gods,
involved in many mortals lives, and continually effects these mortals lives. This effect mirrors many
norms within Ancient Greek society which was highly focused on male figures who dictated the
decisions of families and individuals and their choices were often not questioned or change by others.
This presents a difference from many aspects of modern society, and at times, this difference shocks
modern audiences interacting with Greek myth. Specifically, one can find actions and characteristics
of the god Zeus by examining his role in the myths of the Rape of Persephone, Io, and Heracles that
would shock modern audiences.
A well known myth involving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This myth details the capture of Persephone, the daughter of Demeter and Zeus, by the god Hades, the
brother of Zeus. Three specific details about this myth are of interest when examining the character of
Zeus. First, the traditional Greek version of this myth uses verbiage meaning the violent seizing and
carrying off of someone or something to describe Hades taking Persephone (DeBloois, 1997). This
detail becomes important in the context of the actions taken by Zeus throughout the myth. Hades is
given Zeus s permission to create a trap to distract and capture Persephone (Morford, 2013, p. 339
340). Zeus allows for this in order to appease Hades, assumedly because Hades is confined to the
Underworld. This does demonstrate a peacemaker aspect of Zeus s character, specifically a
peacemaker among the gods. The second detail from this myth that further supports this characteristic
of Zeus is his actions after Persephone has been captured. Zeus ignores Persephone s cries for help as
Hades is taking her to the Underworld (Morford, 2013, p. 340). Ignoring her cries reinforces this
peacemaker idea because he does not act against Hades or take back his previous approval, despite the
audible cries from his daughter. These actions, despite being

Amanda Knox Metamorphosis
The Metamorphosis is a novella written by Franz Kafka and was published in October of 1915. It is
about a traveling salesman named Gregor whose life changed drastically after turning into a
cockroach. There are many other difficult situations people go through that are similar to Gregor s, but
that can happen in real life. For example, Gregor faces isolation while being a cockroach, and
someone who is blind or has autism may also feel isolated. Amanda Knox and Gregor s situations
compare and contrast in several ways. Amanda Knox was wrongfully convicted for murdering her
roommate and faced time in prison because of it. Although Gregor and Amanda both didn t turn into
an insect, they were both living normal lives until one day something happened that completely
changed the way they lived.
Amanda Knox and Gregor encounter some of the same experiences when dealing with their situations.
First, they both didn t have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author, Franz Kafka struggled with being accepted and he didn t have a good relationship with his
parents. On the other hand, Amanda does have a good relationship with her parents but some people

Comparing fiction and nonfiction enhances a story because it shows that the content in fiction and
nonfiction can be the same but the characters can still be different. An advantage of this would be that
an event can become more interesting by including fictional characters. For example, a story can be
about a family getting into a really bad car accident and the father dies but the characters in the fiction
story can be rabbits and the characters in nonfiction would be humans. I think nonfiction is more
interesting because I know that the piece of literature written is based on true events, so it s cool to
know that it actually

Comparing Wide Sargasso Sea and Jane Eyre Essay
Authors, Jean Rhys and Charlotte Bronte constructed their novels in completely different time periods
and came from different influences in writing. Jean Rhys s fiction book, Wide Sargasso Sea is an
interesting relation to Jane Eyre. The female character of Jane Eyre forms into a furiously, passionate,
independent young woman. The female character of Jean Rhys s illustration is a character that Jane
will know further on as Rochester s crazy wife who is bolted in an attic. Jean Rhys further studies this
character, where as Charlotte Bronte approved that it was left explained (Thorpe 175). Antoinette,
considerably like Jane, evolves in a world with minimal amount of love to offer. Both these women
are taken cared of as children by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These two novels are both feminist works, although each book leads to feminist problems somewhat
differently. Jane has a strong foundation in what woman deserve, as well as achieve specific goals for
how she portrays her spot in society being a woman; Antoinette has no knowledge where to start to
change herself. In Wide Sargasso Sea, Rhys poses the likelihood that maybe; the gap between women
and men can t be penetrated. Possibly, the unbalance is so great that Antoinette cannot have a feeling
of cheerfulness and pleasure that Jane discovers near the end of the novel. Wide Sargasso Sea portrays
the fluctuating position of woman in the twentieth century. Wide Sargasso Sea and Jane Eyre can
single handedly be looked at as signs of feminist texts, however, Wide Sargasso Sea presents itself
with more description on post modern shape of feminism.
An interesting insight into grasping the un similarities of how Antoinette and Jane portray their roles
as woman are by noticing their spiritual beliefs. Growing up, Jane would often show signs where she
would leave her insecurity in the faith and power of religion.

The Rising House Costs On New Zealand
The rising house costs in New Zealand specific in Auckland are empowering more young experts to
search elsewhere for a stable job with higher wages. Conversely, we are losing highly skilled
Aucklanders to other regions in the country to pursue a better work life balance. The major concern
for the unaffordability of housing is creating a big issue to all Auckland based businesses as talented
employees moved away from the city to escape from the increasing cost of living. This will threaten
the vitality of many businesses or local organizations that rely on upon their talent. So because of this
house costs are moving up faster than the wages of employees therefore this implies that housing is
turning out to be less affordable. As indicated in an article by Nichol states that three quarters said
they had lost employees to other locations in New Zealand or overseas, nearly half of them moved to
Christchurch or Tauranga. Also many highly skilled people won t move or come to Auckland because
they won t able to afford living here (Nichol, 2016). The housing cost in Auckland was extremely
deterred in drawing in the middle income workers to Auckland city.
While on the opposite side of the scale a few organizations will wind up paying rewards to their staffs
so as to hold on to their employees from moving. A large portion of these organizations won t have the
capacity to offer flexible part time or full time employment because of the time it takes to commute

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Rspberry Pi
Visually impaired people face a lot of problems in their daily life. In order to make them live
confidentially without the need of others we develop an assistive technology. We propose a camera

propose image capturing method that is usually a camera used to capture the object whose label is to

certain feature extraction algorithms like gradient conversion, sobel edge detection, canny edge
detection etc. Histogram might be applied to extract the image features. Finally speech output the

started to make towns and people wanted the gold. They started to fight and it became kaos. After
people moved in to the gold land people were charging 19 million to live there. But people did not like
the cost to live there. So they went somewhere eventually they found gold. About 1 year later it was a
ghost town(a ghost is a town is a town that had a lot of people but now they all leave). In Helena
people found gold in 1864. People went nuts and wanted that gold. So they went to Helena and got all
that gold and went a way. A few years later they found gold in grasshopper creek. In conclusion I think

Leasing A Piece Of Machinery Or Property
Leasing a piece of machinery or property can be beneficial for a company or individual rather than a
straight out purchase. This report will define a lease, the types, and benefits. While illustrating the
difference between a lessee and the lessor, showing the implantations of tax benefits each party will be
able to partake in. The third aspect that will be covered is the written agreement between the parties,
and how these terms can be self defining as to what type of lease in which the parties are agreeing to.
A lease is a legal document outlining the terms under which one party agrees to rent property from
another party. A lease guarantees the lessee (the renter) use of an asset and guarantees the lessor (the
property owner) regular payments from the lessee for a specified number of months or years. Both the
lessee and the lessor must uphold the terms of the contract for the lease to remain valid. (Investopedia)
With in the contracts the details of the agreement are laid out, for both the lessee and lessor. Within
these documents and who they are written can determine what type of lease they are.
Lease Types
There are in general two types of leases. The first would be a capital lease which is a lease in which
the lessor only finances the leased asset, and all other rights of the ownership transfer to the lessee
(Accounting Tools). Within the parameters of the capital lease the lessor can only record the interest
on the lease as an expense, while the asset itself

Horror Film History
According to Prince (2004), horror films today are more disturbing than those produced during the
genres establishment. During the classical Hollywood era, horror films were located in distant places,
in the woods or abandoned territories. The films would mostly show a group of people going to a
camp where the horror would then take place, or while on a trip, the vehicle would stop halfway in an
unknown place, and the horror would also begin. All scenes would then take place in that abandoned
place chosen by the film. At the end of the film, monsters were killed by the hero. The hero would
then go on to live his live normal, after returning safely to his hometown where it was safe (Prince
2004). The sense of horror taking place in unknown places,

Cold Blood Is A Book By Truman Capote
In Cold Blood is a book written by Truman Capote. It s a non fictional book written in the style of a
creative fictional book. The story follows two criminals, Dick and Perry, after they ve murdered four
members of the Clutter family. The already experienced murderers make sure to leave no evidence,
clues, or traces to them in the crime scene. As investigators attempt to figure out the mystery of the
Clutter family murders, Dick and Perry make their way to Mexico until they get found out and get
taken to prison. After several years and trials, the duo are given the ultimate punishment. Because this
novel is a real story, Capote has to make sure the readers get all the details from the actual event. Just
like any other journalism from the newspaper or the TV news report, these details can get tedious and
boring. When writing this book, Capote had the intention of giving the story a creative style that
would capture the reader as any fictional book would. And so, the challenge for Capote would be how
to mix his writing style between realistic and at the same time creatively intriguing. At the start of the
story, Truman Capote has the intention to make sure the reader gets deeply invested into the
environment of the story. He wants us to feel the realistic tone of the story that it s following. In order
to do so, he creates a lot of buildup to the scenery before any major events crop up. Before the main
murder of the Clutter family occurs, Capote spends a decent amount of

Bruce And Johnston Retirement Case Summary
Bruce and Faith Johnston are 64 and 58 respectively and plan to retire within the next 2 years. They
have a combined net worth of $456,990 and if they accomplish their goals of paying off their
outstanding debt and their mortgage, their net worth will increase. Their current monthly income sums
to $5,666 and their total monthly expenses totals to around $4,500 with $1,000 of it as expenses for
subsidizing living expenses for their two children as a result of a late parenthood . With the idea of
retiring within the next two years, their main source of income following retirement is the $235,000 in
Bruce s company profit sharing plan, and the potential inheritance of $150,000 from Faith s father.
Their monthly household expenses include $850 for their mortgage, which has nine years of payments
remaining, $400 for property taxes, $300 for utilities, $250 for insurance, and $278 for their new car
that still has 48 payments left. With their monthly income totaling $5,666, that leaves only $1,166 a
month for various expenses that might pop up and for further investments into Bruce s profit sharing
plan. They do not have any cash assets, which is a negative about their financial situation. They also
have numerous debts which include their $75,000 mortgage, $13,344 for a car loan, ... Show more

does not have disability insurance and at this stage in their life they might not need it. They also do not
have an umbrella insurance policy to cover all of their belongings, which I would recommend them

The Influence of George Frideric Handel on Music
Introduction
Over time, the world has seen many outstanding musicians, and so much fantastic music. Each highly
remembered composer or musician changed the way we think and see the world. They give us new
ideas, and music is a wonderful way to convey moods and emotions. Each also slightly changed music
itself. Handel was one of the greatest of these people. He was a superior composer who largely
influenced and expanded music.
Background
George Frideric Handel was born in Germany, but found his future in England as a composer. Stanley
states that: Handel was by training and temperament a composer... Like Mozart he possessed in the
highest degree the supreme attributes of the musical dramatist (105 106). The surprising thing is

England loved Handel dearly. He was famous all over. He wrote different genres, and for many
occasions, so many people were familiar with him, one way or another.
The musical history of England is greatly dependent on Handel. He was, undoubtedly, one of their
most honored composers.
To George Frederik Handel we own our prestige as a musical nation; to his inimitable genius and
mighty intellect we are indebted ... [Handel s operas] have served as a model for the formation of our
national style; his individual idiosyncrasies have become the accepted formulae of sacred musical
utterance, and the purity of his themes and major proportions of his style have given at once the
example, and the spirit of emulation to succeeding generations of native musicians! (Qtd in. Parker)
He gave England its reputation in music, providing the foundation for many fantastic composers after
him. Handel notably impacted the writings of future composers. Langlois evaluates Handel s influence
in many of Mozart s pieces. These are in pieces such as The Solemn Vespers, or C Minor Mass. He
also tells of Handel s influence on Beethoven. There can be found a certain Handelian influence in
Beethoven s music. Many of Beethoven s grand themes sound as if they could have been written by

The Five Main Geographic Regions
There are five distinct geographic regions, also known as physiographic provinces, in Virginia that
each carry its own physiography and background in the underline geology. Among these five main
geographic regions of Virginia, the Valley and Ridge of Virginia plays an important role in the geology
of Virginia starting from its Proterozoic period that dates back to 600 Ma through Cenozoic period in
0 Ma. The significant activities during the Silurian period as far as sediment deposition is concerned
include erosion of Taconic Mountains and deposition of clastic wedge, such as Juniata Formation and
Tuscarora Formation; and as far as carbonate deposition is concerned, these activities included

Consecutively, the Taconic and Acadian mountain building occurrences took place, pressing and
adding new land to the margin of North America. Although Acadian orogeny was a bigger mountain
building event as compared to other periods events, around 250 to 300 million years ago during the
Pennsylvanian and Permian periods, the ultimate mountain building event took place as ancestral
North America collided with Ancestral Africa which had already joined the continents as Gondwana.
As a result of this collision, the central and southern Appalachians were created. Sediment from the
Iapetus ocean basin and the continental shelf and slope of North America was pushed upwards and
pressed along with the crust; this mountain building event has been known as the Alleghenian
Orogeny. However the Acadian orogeny primarily formed the northern Appalachian Mountains, the
Alleghenian orogeny did the ultimate pressing to the margin of the continent which form today s
Appalachian Mountains. The Alleghenian mountain building events, just like other mountain building
events, deformed, folded, uplifted, faulted, introduced, and pressed the crust of the Easter margin of
North America. The affected rocks are comprised of sediments deposited in the inland ocean
throughout the period of Paleozoic. They also include Iapetus and Avalon rocks; these rocks were
added to North America from the Ordovician through the Devonian. In the meantime, as the
Appalachian basin was filled with sediment produced as a result of eroding Appalachian Mountains,
the inland ocean that existed west of the Taconic and Acadian Mountains started to recede slowly. The
collision resulted in the rocks along the eastern margin getting compressed westward similar to a
collapsing telescope. Crust slices were also pushed westward along faults such as the Brevard Zone
that runs alongside the eastern edge of

Big Bang Light Elements
Elements are substances that cannot be separated into smaller substances and are made up entirely of
one type of atom. Naturally existing elements can be categorized as either light elements or heavy
elements. During the Big Bang light elements were formed such as hydrogen, lithium, lithium and
deuterium. The heavy elements originated from Stellar Nucleosynthesis. Heavy elements, however,
are formed such as uranium and iron are formed through Stellar Nucleosynthesis while materials
heavier than this are formed through a supernova.
Soon after the big bang the cosmic dust as well as gases combined and cooled off together to form
stars. The nuclear fusion in stars converts hydrogen into helium and is a continuous process in the
stars until hydrogen runs out at the core of the star. When hydrogen runs out, helium atoms fuse to
form carbon atoms. Massive stars can synthesize heavier elements such as ... Show more content on

Ionic bonds, on the other hand, occur when two metals completely transfer electrons between them.
Hydrogen has only one electron that goes to the lowest energy orbital hence its electronic structure is
1s1. Carbon, on the other hand, has six electrons hence the electronic structure is 1s22s22px12py1.
Alkanes are formed through atomic bonds formed between carbon and hydrogen. For example,
methane, CH4 has a tetrahedral shape based on the four atoms bonding with the central carbon atom.
Each hydrogen atom contributes one electron equivalent to one C H bond but still, there are still 2p
orbitals in the carbon atom with unpaired electrons. Four equivalent bonds are needed so the atomic
wave functions for the 2s and three 2porbitals come together to form new molecular wave functions
and new molecular orbitals. These molecular orbitals produce hybrid orbitals called sp3

and Schmid, A. 2008). In contrast, the United States established the Affordable Care Act (ACA),
which was implemented to improve access to health, improve quality of health, and make health care
more affordable. Historically, Americans were treated with medicinal herbs and anecdotal information
in their homes. Doctors were sole decision makers about admissions, length of stay, resource use, and
referrals. The U.S health care system changed by having hospital fiscal penalties for lengths of stay,
admissions require payer approval, and readmissions carry penalties. As well as, people are getting
treated in hospitals, primary care office, and rehabs, instead of their homes. Having access to
hospitals, and getting treated with these new drugs and new technologies, one would think that
everyone would get the same kind of health care. However, gender and ethnic disparities contribute to
many individuals having access to health care. Access to health is the determinant factor of the health
disparities. In the United States disparities are well documented in minority populations such as
African Americans, Native Americans, Asian Americans and Hispanics, all of which constitute twenty
eight percent of the population (McHenry, G.). Ethnic disparities, indicators include social justice,
economic realities, shifting census, and disease burden. Latinos tend to have low access to care and
language barriers effecting both access and quality care. Studies show that

The Payday Loan Information System
As soon as the information for the project was given to us, as a group, we took the initiative to gather
the information as soon as possible. The play we went to gather our payday loan information was from
Approved Money Center that is located on 700 S 14th Street, Suite B Kingsville, Texas 78363. The
number to Approved Money Center is (361) 592 8300 and we spoke with Courtney Candelara,
Associate, who has been working there for a year. This is her first time working at this type of
business. She is 24 years old and is form Annaville, Texas which is located in Corpus Christi. This
was all the information we could grab at the moment because she was busy and allowed us to take a
picture of the different types of loans they offered and it contained all the information we needed.
The payday loans available include: A 14 day term payday loan. This means that the loan is repayable
after a period of 14 days. At the end of 14 days, the borrower is considered to have default on the loan
and subsequent charges come along with default. Default for less than 10 days upon the end of the 14
days incurs charges that amount to no less than 5% of the loan. If the default is more than 10 days, the
borrower will have to pay an interest amount equivalent to $7.50.
At a bank the 14 day pay term period is also eligible to pay a fine of $30 for dishonoring the time
frame set to settle payment of automated clearing house debit. Upon of a guaranteed loan, the

Reflection Paper On Final Thinking
Coming into this course, I really did not know what to expect. It was second class on my first day of
classes at college. I was not sure what exactly we would do and learn in class. The first thing we
talked about in this course was what kind of class do we want it to be. We gave a lot of topics to the
professor, but the one that stuck to me was the word creative. Professor Cathey told us to use our
creativity for every assignment and every discussion we will ever have in this class. The word creative
stuck to me ever since this day as I am writing to you after all the assignments and discussions we had
for this course. In my opinion, I feel like I accomplished this goal and learn even more about myself.
My final poster for this course went very well in my opinion. I tried very hard to come up with a
question that fits me and can relate to others. Some things that worked for me was actually coming up
with a question. My question, Why are new members joining fraternities knowing hazing still occurs,
was pretty tough to come up with because I had a lot of trouble pinpointing on one question for the
subject of hazing. I believe the thing that worked for me was coming up with the lenses for this
questions. There is a lot of information for hazing from many different viewpoints, so it was simple to

The Importance Of Executive Order
Trump signs executive order to keep out radical Islamic terrorists In late January 2017, President
Trump signed an executive order banning immigration from seven predominantly islamic countries.
Trump stated that the order is necessary in order to keep radical terrorists out of the United States, but
the main issue regarding this executive order is that many believe that the main cause for it is based on
bigotry and not national security. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Friday,
January 27th which called for the suspension of admission into the United States by Syrian refugees
and other refugees. This order would be carried out by extreme vetting of immigrants and the

Although the order does not specifically ban Muslims, many claim that it indeed does because the
countries that are affected are predominantly Muslim, and Christians have the upper hand in the

is: just a euphemism for discrimination against Muslims. . All in all, Trump s effort to ensure greater
national security has caused controversy between the American people.
In 1882, the Chinese Exclusion Act was passed by President Chester A. Arthur. This act was passed in
response to economic fears. Many Americans associated unemployment with the Chinese because
they believed that Chinese Immigrants were taking their jobs. This resulted in the first major law

Patriote or Traitor?
Louis Riel was born in 1844. He was captured and executed by Canadian authorities in November 16,

willing to help them in defending their rights. They chose Louis Riel as their leader. When Riel knew
how the surveyors treated his people, he and some followers quickly reacted to the threat posed by the
Canadian government. Riel formed an organization called the Comite National des Metis to defend his

Sarah Reynolds s Influence On Life
A 30 year old woman named Sarah Reynolds came to me for counseling because she believes that she

Growing up, Sarah had three siblings and two parents in her household, and her parents had a role for
each child. When Sarah was younger she was bullied in school and never felt pretty enough, but once
she got to high school she began to feel more comfortable in her own skin. She made a lot more
friends and even joined the cheerleading squad. Sarah expressed that her parents (particularly her
father) saw this change in Sarah s self confidence and began calling her the self absorbed child . Her
parents and soon after, her siblings, would say that Sarah was too into herself, and only cared to be
involved in a conversation or activity if it related to her in some way. This feeling that her family gave
her trickled into her adult life and has had an effect on the way she feels about her parenting style and
her job. Sarah expressed to me that she often lacks confidence when it comes to parenting because of
how her parent s perceived her confidence growing up. She feels as though she can t make any
mistakes for fear of judgment from her child one day. She also says she is afraid she is going to get
fired because her boss expressed to her that she lacks creativity in the office and does not express her

Egyptian Art Vs Byzantine Art
Throughout history, man has used several mediums to record the world they live in, whether it is
through writing or art. These mediums have also served not only as a way to represent the events in
history but also provide as a way to convey certain messages with hopes to teach, influence or
convince the viewers. Three periods in history, the Egyptian, the Roman, and the Byzantine, are
examples of cultures that used art as a mean to relate the earthly world with their religious beliefs.
With their art, the Egyptian aimed to paint the rulers as god kings, the Roman cultures represented
their gods and goddesses with human like actions, and lastly, the Byzantine period presented a

However, the Byzantine not only created the image of heaven in their architectural structures, but also
in their mosaic paintings. The painting of Justinian, Bishop Maximianus, and attendants, is a good

Prayer By Thomas Keating, Contemplative Prayer
Introduction
According to Thomas Keating, Contemplative prayer is a conversation initiated by God and leading, if
we consent to a divine union. It is the way to pure faith. Unlike with vocal prayers, in which we call
out to God asking for things we need, with contemplative prayer our role is to allow God to be God. In
other words, God directs Contemplative prayer, His grace opens our hearts and minds to the His
presence inside us. Consequently, contemplative prayer begins with a centering prayer, which is a
silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer. Keating noted that, Centering
prayer is an effort to renew the teaching of the Christian tradition of contemplative prayer. Similar to
other methods of prayer, the foundation of centering prayer is the Triune God. Keating noted that, The
practice is based on the wisdom saying of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. The scripture reads, But
when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door and pray to your Father in secret. And your
Father, who sees in secret, will reward you (Matt. 6:6). Practicing contemplative prayer will
strengthen our spiritual commitment and enrich our personal lives. I will discuss the origin, methods
and benefits of contemplative prayer.
Origin of Contemplative Prayer For centuries, the definition for contemplation evolved. According to
Keating, Gnosis was used by St. Paul in the Epistles to represent the knowledge of God proper to
those who

How do both nature and nurture interact in the promotion of language development in young children?
The debate between many researchers is the argument of whether nature or nurture play a more
important role in development. In this essay I will be looking into both aspects of nature and nurture
focusing specifically on their influence towards language development in children. A main
controversial question I will be looking into is the question of whether are we born already equipped
with mechanisms which help us to learn language, or is language learned throughout a child s
environment by, for example, imitation and repetition? Studies done by some opposing researchers

  • 2. Overview and Challenges of Indian Gaming in San Diego The history of Native American tribes is a long, complicated, and more often than not, a sad one. Today, thanks to efforts to help tribes preserve their identity, culture and numbers by means of reservations, many Native Americans not only survive, but also thrive. Indian gaming is one means that has been a source of great income and prosperity for Native American tribes in the San Diego region. Although the economic impact of gaming has been very positive, critics of legalizing and regulating such casinos have expressed concerns regarding potentially negative impacts. While Indian gaming in San Diego has positive impacts for the economy and upliftment of Indian tribes, negative impacts could relate to industry monopolization. According to the National Gambling Impact Study Commission Report (n.d.), large scale Indian casino gambling had its origins in 1987. During this year, the Supreme Court found hat the state of California had no authority over gambling activities within Indian reservations. The Court also recognized the need for regulation, however, and Congress passed the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (AGRA) in 1988. This has been one of the primary advantages of Indian gaming in California in general and in San Diego specifically. This is evident in the Barona reservation, where gaming has had significant impacts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Changes in Policy after School Shootings Policies have changed since the shooting happened in Littleton, Colorado. Before Columbine the primary goal of law enforcement officers before and during a shooting was to set up a perimeter and await arrival of SWAT members (Erickson, 2001). This policy has changed in many states including Pennsylvania where police had been preparing for active shooters with local schools. Police are not able to wait the twenty minutes to an hour for SWAT to arrive at a scene which is why the state mandated that local police receive active shooting training (Coughlin, 2012). This response and a brochure that the Department of Homeland Security came out with are allowing schools a better chance of eliminating a shooter with less causalities and injuries. This brochure goes into to profile of an active shooter, how to respond to an active shooter, how to respond when law enforcement arrives, training staff for an active shooter, preparing for and managing an active shooter situation, recognizing workplace violence, managing the consequences of an active shooter, and lessons learned (DHS, 2008). Recommendations were made following the shooting to implement a command center with personnel able to take command at the beginning of a crisis, control assembled personnel, and to communicate objectives clearly (Erickson, 2001). This came after the failure of law enforcement to set up a successful command center whereas Fire and EMS successfully instituted an incident command center based on ... For the three years that we have been at Hughson High School, we have witnessed resources from the school s cafeteria being wasted and pollution increasing daily. • 5. Good Reputation Research Paper A reputation is the recognition or impression of a person without getting the chance to meet who it is. Reputations are important because it shows the respect others have for someone whether that is a stranger or a friend. It also affects how an individual is judged through first impressions. Overall, a reputation is an expectation of what a person is known to be, and how one opinion can have a drastic effect on someone else s life. To me, reputations are people s expectation of what an individual is as a whole. Whether the characteristic a person embodies is good or bad, others are quick to judge. For example, I have the reputation of being responsible. To most of my friends, I m known for getting my work done on time while getting a good night s rest. What they don t know, I m scrambling to get my work done because of procrastination, to go to bed at a reasonable hour. Therefore proving, people expect me to be a certain way when they don t know the whole truth. Overall, a reputation is a way to see how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet, another s judgment can affect the outcome of how someone wants their reputation to be. Without the respect of others, a person can be in solitude, shying away from social contact. Therefore, a reputation is just an opinion of what someone is supposed to be and the effect their respect can have on another person. I believe a reputation is just a way to file someone under a category to distinguish who that person is as a whole. • 6. Anne Bradstreet Tone It is not a secret that women in the seventeenth century were oppressed. Puritan society deemed women to be useful mainly within the household. It was very uncommon for women to be respected as authors or even be educated enough to do so. Anne Bradstreet s The Prologue was a controversial work for a woman in Puritan society, as it challenged men to share the literary world with women. Through heavy sarcasm and self deprecation, Bradstreet defends women writers from the criticism of men. The sarcastic tone of the poem starts right at the first stanza. The speaker begins the poem by stating that she will not be writing about wars or kings. She finds that poets and historians, or rather men, are better equipped to handle such topics than ... She writes, Men can do best, and Women know it well, which makes the poem a bit less scandalous, but to some may seem to be thickly laced with sarcasm (37). She tells the readers that men were, by nature, given the tools to succeed rather than women, yet still manages to demand that men acknowledge that women are capable writers as well with Yet grant some small acknowledgement of ours (42). The concluding stanza also attempts to earn women the right to play the same game as men, while also trying not to make the men feel threatened. Bradstreet writes that the men can keep the bays of a great poet, her speaker would rather have a wreath made out of typical cooking spices. This relates back to the domestic duties women were expected to perform in Puritan society. She tries to make her male readers more accepting with the final two line of the poem: This mean and unrefined ore of mine/Will make your glist ring gold but more to shine (47 8). Bradstreet argues that if women were given the same respect in terms of writing as men, it wouldn t take from the male writers. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If that is the case, the overall goals should be readdressed and more specific. But I digress. The true issue is the lack of a common company goal or vision and determining where that comes from. One of the major areas I see my team struggle with is this idea of the fourth dysfunction, which is the avoidance of accountability. This can be seen when an employee can give you departmental goals, but not necessarily the company s goals or visions. Up until recently, our company operated under a silo mentality . In other words, each department was operating independently of each other, with no regard to what the other departments were doing. Nobody knew what anyone else was responsible for, or how our departments worked together, thereby eliminating the ability to hold each other accountable. Brent Gleeson points out that this concept is not healthy for any business. This type of mentality will reduce efficiency in the overall operation, reduce morale, and may contribute to the demise of a productive company culture (Gleeson Rozo, 2013, para. 1) When we cannot hold each other accountable, we cannot reach a common goal. We begin to operate without a vision or operate with very limited vision, placing the overall goals of the company as more of a suggestion than a goal. • 11. Zeus Role In Greek Society Throughout Greek myths, Zeus plays a highly important role because he is the king of the gods, involved in many mortals lives, and continually effects these mortals lives. This effect mirrors many norms within Ancient Greek society which was highly focused on male figures who dictated the decisions of families and individuals and their choices were often not questioned or change by others. This presents a difference from many aspects of modern society, and at times, this difference shocks modern audiences interacting with Greek myth. Specifically, one can find actions and characteristics of the god Zeus by examining his role in the myths of the Rape of Persephone, Io, and Heracles that would shock modern audiences. A well known myth involving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This myth details the capture of Persephone, the daughter of Demeter and Zeus, by the god Hades, the brother of Zeus. Three specific details about this myth are of interest when examining the character of Zeus. First, the traditional Greek version of this myth uses verbiage meaning the violent seizing and carrying off of someone or something to describe Hades taking Persephone (DeBloois, 1997). This detail becomes important in the context of the actions taken by Zeus throughout the myth. Hades is given Zeus s permission to create a trap to distract and capture Persephone (Morford, 2013, p. 339 340). Zeus allows for this in order to appease Hades, assumedly because Hades is confined to the Underworld. This does demonstrate a peacemaker aspect of Zeus s character, specifically a peacemaker among the gods. The second detail from this myth that further supports this characteristic of Zeus is his actions after Persephone has been captured. Zeus ignores Persephone s cries for help as Hades is taking her to the Underworld (Morford, 2013, p. 340). Ignoring her cries reinforces this peacemaker idea because he does not act against Hades or take back his previous approval, despite the audible cries from his daughter. Conversely, we are losing highly skilled Aucklanders to other regions in the country to pursue a better work life balance. • 25. The Influence of George Frideric Handel on Music Introduction Over time, the world has seen many outstanding musicians, and so much fantastic music. Each highly remembered composer or musician changed the way we think and see the world. They give us new ideas, and music is a wonderful way to convey moods and emotions. Each also slightly changed music itself. Handel was one of the greatest of these people. He was a superior composer who largely influenced and expanded music. Background George Frideric Handel was born in Germany, but found his future in England as a composer. Stanley states that: Handel was by training and temperament a composer... England loved Handel dearly. He was famous all over. He wrote different genres, and for many occasions, so many people were familiar with him, one way or another. The musical history of England is greatly dependent on Handel. He was, undoubtedly, one of their most honored composers. To George Frederik Handel we own our prestige as a musical nation; to his inimitable genius and mighty intellect we are indebted ... [Handel s operas] have served as a model for the formation of our national style; his individual idiosyncrasies have become the accepted formulae of sacred musical utterance, and the purity of his themes and major proportions of his style have given at once the example, and the spirit of emulation to succeeding generations of native musicians! (Qtd in. Parker) He gave England its reputation in music, providing the foundation for many fantastic composers after him. Handel notably impacted the writings of future composers. Langlois evaluates Handel s influence in many of Mozart s pieces. These are in pieces such as The Solemn Vespers, or C Minor Mass. He also tells of Handel s influence on Beethoven. The Five Main Geographic Regions There are five distinct geographic regions, also known as physiographic provinces, in Virginia that each carry its own physiography and background in the underline geology. Among these five main geographic regions of Virginia, the Valley and Ridge of Virginia plays an important role in the geology of Virginia starting from its Proterozoic period that dates back to 600 Ma through Cenozoic period in 0 Ma. Although Acadian orogeny was a bigger mountain building event as compared to other periods events, around 250 to 300 million years ago during the Pennsylvanian and Permian periods, the ultimate mountain building event took place as ancestral North America collided with Ancestral Africa which had already joined the continents as Gondwana. As a result of this collision, the central and southern Appalachians were created. Sediment from the Iapetus ocean basin and the continental shelf and slope of North America was pushed upwards and pressed along with the crust; this mountain building event has been known as the Alleghenian Orogeny. However the Acadian orogeny primarily formed the northern Appalachian Mountains, the Alleghenian orogeny did the ultimate pressing to the margin of the continent which form today s Appalachian Mountains. The Alleghenian mountain building events, just like other mountain building events, deformed, folded, uplifted, faulted, introduced, and pressed the crust of the Easter margin of North America. The affected rocks are comprised of sediments deposited in the inland ocean throughout the period of Paleozoic. They also include Iapetus and Avalon rocks; these rocks were added to North America from the Ordovician through the Devonian. In the meantime, as the Appalachian basin was filled with sediment produced as a result of eroding Appalachian Mountains, the inland ocean that existed west of the Taconic and Acadian Mountains started to recede slowly. The collision resulted in the rocks along the eastern margin getting compressed westward similar to a collapsing telescope. Naturally existing elements can be categorized as either light elements or heavy elements. During the Big Bang light elements were formed such as hydrogen, lithium, lithium and deuterium. The heavy elements originated from Stellar Nucleosynthesis. Heavy elements, however, are formed such as uranium and iron are formed through Stellar Nucleosynthesis while materials heavier than this are formed through a supernova. Soon after the big bang the cosmic dust as well as gases combined and cooled off together to form stars. The nuclear fusion in stars converts hydrogen into helium and is a continuous process in the stars until hydrogen runs out at the core of the star. Three periods in history, the Egyptian, the Roman, and the Byzantine, are examples of cultures that used art as a mean to relate the earthly world with their religious beliefs. • 40. Prayer By Thomas Keating, Contemplative Prayer Introduction According to Thomas Keating, Contemplative prayer is a conversation initiated by God and leading, if we consent to a divine union. It is the way to pure faith. Unlike with vocal prayers, in which we call out to God asking for things we need, with contemplative prayer our role is to allow God to be God. In other words, God directs Contemplative prayer, His grace opens our hearts and minds to the His presence inside us. Consequently, contemplative prayer begins with a centering prayer, which is a silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer. Keating noted that, Centering prayer is an effort to renew the teaching of the Christian tradition of contemplative prayer. Similar to other methods of prayer, the foundation of centering prayer is the Triune God. Keating noted that, The practice is based on the wisdom saying of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. The scripture reads, But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you (Matt. 6:6). The debate between many researchers is the argument of whether nature or nurture play a more important role in development. In this essay I will be looking into both aspects of nature and nurture focusing specifically on their influence towards language development in children. A main controversial question I will be looking into is the question of whether are we born already equipped with mechanisms which help us to learn language, or is language learned throughout a child s environment by, for example, imitation and repetition? Although Jim did learn speech it became noticeably odd to others around him as he had developed his own, unique grammatical characteristics and his poor articulation meant he didn t acquire normal language skills (Sachs et al 1981). Bruner suggests that this was due to lack of social interaction in his learning of speech, which again highlights the importance of nurture in promoting a child s language development. However, it can be argued with (Bruner 1964) that social interaction doesn t explain all the complexities of language acquisition. Almost every day the language we hear is often incorrect, poorly defined, incomplete and full of hesitations, mispronunciations and other errors, and yet despite this we still learn to talk following the correct grammatical rules. Again this indicates the idea of Chomsky s (1968) LAD model that children are born hard wired with the innate knowledge of linguistic rules and so these rules help the baby make estimations and presumptions about the language it is hearing. From these estimations and presumption the child can work out grammatical sets of rules and when more language is exposed to them, the more their language develops. Even within Chomsky s (1968) LAD theory, undoubtedly he believed the role and promotion of the nature aspect is the core foundation on which language can develop.
