Occupational Therapy Self
The use of therapeutic use of self is engrained throughout the philosophies of occupational therapy.
It becomes an integral part of the therapist. Semour (2012) explains it as planned and deliberate
interactions with a client. It is a multifaceted approach involving the building of rapport to establish
the relationship with the client, being sensitive to a clients personal experiences and ensuring the
therapist practices remain client centred (Semour, 2012). The therapist needs to understand the
clients story and show personal sensitivity, respect and trust of the clients own experiences.
(Taylor, 2008) I strongly value the importance of the therapeutic use of self and the effects it has
on the clients we work with. I got to experiences

Diabetes Affects The Body
Diabetes is a disease that affects the use of insulin in the body. According to the Merriam Webster
Online Dictionary diabetes mellitus is a disorder of carbohydrate metabolism caused by a
combination of hereditary and environmental factors and usually characterized by inadequate
secretion or utilization of insulin, by excessive urine production, by excessive amounts of sugar in
the blood and urine, and by thirst, hunger, and loss of weight ( Diabetes Mellitus). This disease not
only impacts the amounts of sugar in the blood, it also has lasting effects on the rest of the body.
Diabetes impacts the body and its systems negatively if the body s blood sugarlevels are not treated
or maintained properly.
In the body there are twelve different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Type one is characterized as an autoimmune disease, because the body targets it s own beta cells
in the pancreas. The beta cells are cells that produce insulin for the entire body. The body stops
making insulin, causing people to become insulin dependent. An insulin dependent person would
use insulin injections or an insulin pump ordinarily to manage their sugar levels. Type two
diabetes is different. The body of a type two diabetic no longer responds to the body made insulin.
Beta cells destroy themselves from the overproduction of insulin because the cells themselves try
to compensate for the deficiency of insulin. Type two is either treated without medications like
exercise and diet or with insulin tablets. But, there are some occurrences in which insulin injections
would be needed ( Differences Between Type 1 and Type 2 ). Both types are dangerous if not
monitored, and cause the circulatory system to

From Working Poor For Elite Scholar Essay
4 SAMPLE GRADUATE SCHOOL ESSAYS
#1. From Working Poor to Elite Scholar
One of the proudest accomplishments of my life was earning my college degree, despite the fact
that my early adulthood pointed in the opposite direction, beginning with my marriage at the age of
19. Throughout the 1990s I lived as one of the
working poor, someone who slipped through the cracks of supposedly historic prosperity. By the
age of 25 I was divorced and frustrated with menial, low paying jobs: clerk, receptionist, and
housecleaner. There is nothing like scrubbing someone else s toilet to inspire one with
determination toward obtaining an education. Because of my absolute commitment toward earning
my degree, I got a flexible shift at a retail warehouse which enabled me to acquire my degree while
supporting myself financially.
Enrolled at the local community college, I experienced a different world opening up to me; excited
by a new encouraging environment, I excelled academically. I learned that if I tried hard, I could
succeed; if I wanted something badly enough, I possessed the ability to take advantage of these
opportunities. I worked a minimum 35 hour workweek for five years to put myself through school
without succumbing to the temptation of a student loan. I paid tuition up front with the money I
earned.
It was the example of my mother, a Puerto Rican immigrant working diligently to provide for her
family, who instilled a work ethic into me that has stood me in good stead.

Federal Income Tax Vs. Flat Tax
There has always been a large amount of discussion on the topic of the federal income tax.
Specifically, the discussions have revolved around how exactly the people should be taxed. There
are several ways in which tax rates can be determined, and all of them have some form of a strong
argument behind them. The flat taxis the best option as, by nature, it is the most fair. Tax rates are
measured by percentages, and when taxes are collected by percentages, the wealthy are already
paying more money than the poor. For example, if a flat tax rate of 20% is in place, and one
person has an annual income of $150,000 while another person has an annual income of $40,000.
The person who has the income of $150,000 is paying $30,000 in taxes while... Show more content

This tax is called sin tax, and it is a tax that is levied on items that are considered hazardous and
/or unhealthy, such as cigarettes and alcohol. It is also proven that the lower class, specifically
the lowest quintile in the U.S., spends a higher percentage of their income on alcohol and
tobacco than the upper classes. This is most likely due to the fact that the poorer people actually
purchase more alcohol and tobacco than the average person in the higher classes. The cause of
this is most probably early formations of addictions, which quite possibly ruined careers. People
who fall under this category most likely became addicted to alcohol and/or tobacco early on in
their lives, which put a financial strain on them earlier on in their careers, or even before their
careers even started, therefore hindering their ability to move up in their jobs or find better

Devious Deception In Macbeth By William Shakespeare
Devious Deception (A Discussion of the Themes of Deception in Acts 1 and 2 of Macbeth)
William Shakespeare is the most celebrated author of all time. Throughout his lifetime, he wrote
numerous texts that would go to be the most loved pieces of writing among abounding
generations. His plays have been performed millions of times and all of the world has heard of
them, even decades after his time. His writings contain divers elements of comedy and sadness. In
the particular tragedy called Macbeth, Shakespeare adds deception to his acts to get the viewers
thinking. This play is full of madness, including the main characters losing their minds. These
themes of deception in acts 1 and 2 of Macbeth are evident through Lady Macbeth pressuring her
husband, the manner in which Macbeth acts around the king, and the way Lady Macbeth and
Macbeth commit the crime of killing Duncan... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This goes to show how much of an influence a woman can have on her man. In the play, Macbeth
wants to kill king Duncan, but starts to have second thoughts about it. He thinks of how Duncan
has been such a dear friend to him and how he has never done him wrong. However, Lady
Macbeth tells him he needs to stop that by joking about his manhood. She truly influences him
and uses deception to make him kill the king. In Scene 7 of act 1 on line 47, Lady Macbeth says:
What beast was t then that made you break this enterprise to me? When you durst do it, then you

Through out the course of history, America has seen great Presidents. These men all exhibited

support and confidence in the hearts of those who listened. One can see how these feelings might
come about in this quote by the President in 1963. quot; What kind of peace do we seek? Not a
Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not a peace of the grave or
the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on

President Kennedy was a natural leader. This was noted by Admiral W.F. Halsey. Saying, quot; His

The Impact of Digital Technology on Today s Children
In a world dominated by technology, it is appropriate for adults to have concerns about the impact
it is having on children. While most of this concern does stem from the experiences of their own
childhood when there was less technology, more play time outside, and life was just simply much
easier, the fact of the matter is that the children today and the future generations to come are going
to grow up in a technological realm. Today, children as young as four years old, are regularly using
digital technology on multiple different platforms such as the Internet, mobile devices, and
gaming consoles. A 2013 Nielsen Connected Devices report found that in households that have a
tablet and/or computer and with children under 12 years of age, 70% of the children used the
tablet; 70% of those children used it for entertainment purposes, and 57% used the tablet for
educational purposes. The report, of course, raises the obvious question of rather or not early
exposure of digital technology can have negative effects on child development especially regarding
their brains. In truth, there is no easy answer because like most things in life, there are both good
and bad attributes to it and the exact same thing can be applied in this situation. For instance, while
technology can be used for positive educational purposes, there are also serious psychological
concerns.

an enhanced version was released after a successful kickstarter campaign. The game has underwent
quite the graphical overhaul in this enhanced release, however most of the original concepts remain
intact.
And that is a good thing, because Leisure Suit Larry is a hilarious game. Al Lowe has created a
game with a juvenile sense of humor that dares you keep a straight face. The, quite frankly,
ridiculous situations Larry stumbles into sticks with you after finishing the game. The puzzles are
excellently rooted in reality. Larry needs wine and condoms for

The Contract Agreement Is Enforceable And Binds The Parties
Having concluded that the July 7, 2009 settlement agreement is enforceable and binds the parties,
we must then interpret the terms of that agreement. Settlement agreements are enforceable as
independent contracts, subject to the same general rules of construction that apply to other
contracts. Maslow v. Vanguri, 168 Md. App. 298, 316 (2006). We begin by observing that the
interpretation of a contract is a question of law subject to de novo review. Spacesaver Sys., Inc. v.

Problem Solving Instruction Questionnaire BFP2 Task 1 Bridget Clark August 21, 2016 A Written
Project Presented to the Faculty of the Teachers College of Western Governors University
Introduction Within mathematics instruction, strategies for solving basic operations are strong and
systemic. However, students in the intermediate grades struggle with finding and using reliable
strategies for solving word problems. The complexity of language that s used in a mathematical
context makes it difficult for students to have a confident approach. Therefore, research is being
conducted on how reading comprehension can be dove tailed with word problem solving in an
elementary classroom. The Problem Solving Instruction Questionnaire was designed to collect data
from a range of teachers to learn about math problem solving instruction in a variety of classrooms.
This helped identify effective approaches in teaching, to verify poor performance and lack of
strategies with students, and collect any other various input. The data would guide the mathematics
intervention to be used and planned. Research Topic A majority of current and incoming fourth
grade students struggle with solving word problems accurately. Students have difficulty with word
problems mostly based on lack of reliable strategies and poor language interpretation. While fact
fluency may be present, the ability to interpret vocabulary to guide computation leaves many
students unable to construct

Characteristics Of Jainism In Ahimsa
The general idea of Ahimsa is concentrated on nonviolence and to abstain from any type of violent
behavior and any form of injury to all living things. They do not wish any harm on others. Ahimsa
is derived from the Indian religion of Jainism which is one of the most ancient religions in India.
One of the primary focal points of Jainismis that live human beings relationships and soul with
other human beings bring about the natural revelation of Ahimsa as the justification of the
religion. Ahimsa s focus is non violence, peaceful harmony with all things, and love. A Jain lives
in Ahimsa by practicing these similar characteristics because Jainism is the world s most peaceful
religion. Jainism is a religion that believes in non violence and the proper treatment of everything
on this earth. Jains believe that just thinking thoughts of another person is considered violence.
Jains should not use words that could injure or give unhappiness to one another. Jains will walk
on sidewalk and sweep as their walking to avoid killing an ant or some sort of bug, they are also
taught to let animals live and die a natural death. Even though they know nonviolence cannot be
perfectly practiced they try their best to live it. Each Jain is responsible for its own salvation.
Aparigraha is one of the fundamental doctrines of Jainism, somewhat like Ahimsa and Anekantvad
derived from Sanskrit. Aparigraha stands for non possession, non attachment, and non greed.

It can be easier for parents to exercise their control over children if they are watching a movie at
home. If a movie scene is not appropriate for a child, then they have the choice of fast forwarding
it or stopping the movie whereas one does not have that choice in the theater. Movie theaters
make it more difficult on parent s pockets by having a huge variety and display of goodies for
children. The food items are overly priced in a theater and that could be a big dent in the pocket if
added on to the price of entrance ticket.
Some theaters give people and option to go movie hopping where one can see as many movies
with one theater entrance purchase. This is very economical for people who wait for all their
favorite movies to accumulate and watch all of them together in day. This is difficult to do if one
wants to wait for the television channels to telecast them.
There is a broad variety of types of theaters available conventional theaters, IMAX and drive in s.
Going to a theater is a good change for a person in contrast to watching it at home. Theaters are a
popular dating spot for person any age. One can choose between the types of theater one wants to
go to and what suits their needs, but a home television might not be able to give you all these
options. One does not even have to spend extra money on special glasses or other accessories

The Role Of Imperialism In Ancient Rome

risen above the rest and then declined down to nothing. The idea that has stuck with man was the
idea to conquer and build and build a utopian city. The birth of imperialistic nations that grew from

The aqueducts were gravity fed. Meaning that they had a slight downward slope in them to
allow the water to slide down towards Rome. When the aqueduct was checked by a surveyor
every so often. The surveyor would use a tool called a chorobates to make sure the slope contains
its consistent five percent to a two percent gradient. The structure of the aqueducts was
revolutionary in architecture in those times because according to David Macauley When the
keystone was inserted in the center, the arch was complete this was essential because the keystone
allowed the weight to be evenly distributed along an arch. This means the Romans would have
saved more time and effort building arches rather than complete wall like bridges. The Romans
knew that these pipelines would be an easy target for any invaders trying to cause Rome to fall.
They build these water bridges at variable heights, but approximately around thirty meters high. So
Rome had these massive and long aqueducts running through Italy, which is kind of amazing, but
what really is astonishing his how they built the bridge to go through hills. They had these hills
traveling through the hills for primarily two reasons. First, they already had the bridge started and

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with the treatment of misaligned jaws and teeth.
They use pressure to move your teeth and arches into the proper position. Although Orthodontics

The Advertisements For Gucci s Perfume And Calvin Klein
According to Miya Yamanouchi, the author of Embrace Your Sexual Self, Both men and women
experience pressure to conform to social standards of attractiveness. Men to look strong and be
tough, women to look pretty and soft. Stereotypes affect every gender in the society because
people have a prejudice on themselves and others. In Men s Men and Women s Women, written by
Steve Craig, addresses the expectations that the society places on men and women. For instance,
men must be masculine and wealthy and women must have a perfect body shape with beautiful
facial features to be considered as attractive. Nowadays, the advertisements are taking advantage of
such a social norm to lure consumers to purchase their goods. The advertisements for Gucci s
perfume and Calvin Klein s cologne are especially good examples to demonstrate such pressure and
reflect the consumers psychological behavior. The advertisements highlight genderstereotypes
through utilizing the impression of opposite sex and incorporate an underlying sense of sexism
through the designs of the backgrounds, the purpose of wearing fragrances and the reinforcements
on Women s Men and Men s Men; these advertisements contribute to the consumers perception of
their physical appearance by delivering a fraudulent image of perfection through their models.

Archetypes Of A Mentor In Edward Bloor s Tangerine
Everyone has had someone block them from gaining success. The person writing this has, and
so have the readers. But, everyone has had a mentor, or a role model, once in their life. A
mentor, in literature, is a mythological archetype. In Edward Bloor s novel, Tangerine, Antoine
Thomas and Luis Cruz fit as the mythological archetype of the mentor. Antoine and Luis are
mentors to Paul, who is the hero, because they are both positive figures, who motivate Paul. For
instance, when Paul was over at Tino s house working on the science project, he was told that
Luis used to play soccer, too. Luis was also handicapped so he didn t understand how. Tino then
told Paul that Luis had to be the goalie. Paul thought Tino was trying to make fun of him, but he
wasn t. The text states, I looked at Tino to see if he was mocking me. He wasn t. He was just
making conversation (Bloor 175). In other words, Paul really thought that Tino was making fun
of him. This conversation helped Paul realize that he could still play soccer with his loss of
eyesight if Luis can play with a knee injury. The word mocking adds a negative tone to this quote,
but it also helps show how this helps Paul. In addition to Luis, Antoine helps motivate Paul, too.
For example, Paul had gotten a call from Joey, Paul s best friend, saying that Antoine was at Mr.
Donnelly s, a newspaper journalist, house. Paul rode down to see what was happening. When he

How do you consider the lobster? David Foster Wallace wrote the essay Consider the Lobster. After
the reading, the essay for the first time the thoughts that went through my head consisted of how the
lobsters were treated and what Wallace thought of the lobsters. The lobsters are chosen out of
usually a pot or a giant tank and then boiled to death. They are placed into a pot of boiling hot
water and the saying that the lobsters are screaming in the pot comes to be true. Some people find
it disturbing to listen to the sound while others cover the pot and not let it bother them. Also, from
the first reading I thought that Wallace was being somewhat hypocritical because I got the idea that
it was acceptable for him to eat and coo ketch lobsters but seeing it done in the setting of a
restaurant, in a larger quantity makes it worse. Gathering all this information again had made me
rethink the essay and look towards the deeper meaning. Wallace committed suicidein 2008 due to
mental illness. So, when we consider the lobster does it mean that to be considerate of it? Another
point I came to was about was mental illness and how in 2008 Wallace committed suicide. When
lobsters are chosen and boiled to eat, those people are sending them to their grave . So, what does
being considerate consist of when discussing a lobster, a dead body and the food we are about to
eat?

In these case, unlike the theory of Warren Bennis, mechanical base management, which includes
lots of bureaucratic structures, control and rigid authority over employees and vertical
communication lines, becomes necessary. The reason is, while making decisons during the
change process, consultation takes time since there is high possibility of different ideas and
solutions to occur by each employee. Also, in order to consult employees, using the methods like
surveys, focus groups interviews and hiring an expert in this area would cost to a company.
Nevertheless, is it really make sense to avoid employee consultation just because it requires money
and time? Wouldn t the results of ignoring the human side of change cost more to an organisation
in long term? For instance, a change can be easily placed in an organisation structure theoretically
in a cost and time efficient way, however when it s comes to practice, these changes might backfire
because employees may not be able to see the real reason of these changes and they can assess them
as a treat for their current wealth. Moreover , being aware of the fact that organisational changes are
being applied without consultation, employees might feel unvaluable which in return causes the
decay of commitment, loyalty and diligence. In severe cases, they might

Credit Cards And Credit Card Debt
In today s world most people have a credit card by the time they turn eighteen years old. Nerd
Walt, a financial website, stated Average credit card debt in 2013 reached $15,480 per household
in the United States . (Bower) The average household credit card debt has probably increase since
the 2013 study. Overall U.S. National debtis rapidly approaching $18 trillion (Bower). 20% of
credit cardusers often pay off monthly balances on two or more credit cards according to a study
(Bower). In today s society it is normal to swipe a credit card to buy your children Christmas,
because credit card companies now offer rewards where an individual receives moneyback or
maybe even a discount flight. People used to not want to buy their children s Christmas on
credit, but rather work a little harder and save up the money to buy it. Children now days see
their parents buying them stuff on credit card, so when they become teenagers they expect to
receive everything they want even if their parents cannot afford it. When the child becomes a
teenager, and they are finally old enough to get a credit card they take advantage of the credit
card. Young adults should learn to spend their money wisely and efficiently at that age. Most
young adults my age have a credit card and take advantage of it. I have been eighteen now for a
year, and I have been attending college for six months now, and I still don t have a credit card.

Overcoming Adversity In A Trip For Mrs. Taylor
Everyone has experienced adversity at one point in their life, whether it be a final exam or
staying strong while you re going through a rough time. As for many, they assume that running
from their problems is the easy way out when in fact running from your problems may seem
easy at the time, but is a race that can never be won. Instead, we need to face our problems
straight on, because the feeling of conquering a challenge gives us an unexplainable feeling of
success. Through the character Mrs. Taylor, Author Hugh Garner depicts how facing hardships
head on, leads to the feeling of accomplishment in his story, A Trip For Mrs. Taylor . Based on
the story and a personal example it s evident that when an individual faces adversity, they strive
to overcome challenges which leads to the rush of success. In the short story, A Trip for Mrs.
Taylor, author Hugh Garner uses Mrs. Taylor to demonstrate when Mrs. taylor is lonely, how
going on a trip helps her to overcome adversity through the smallest interactions with others
which brings upon Mrs. Taylor the feeling of success. From the start, a reader can infer that Mrs.
Taylor feels lonely and goes on a trip to fill the void of solitude. On the way to the cathedral like
station concourse, a young soldier sympathetically helps Mrs. Taylor with her bags. The soldier
was the first person outside of Mrs. Connell and the man at the grocery store, that she had spoke to
all week (Garner3) inferring that Mrs. Taylor is isolated and

The Value Of The Jaguar Essay
The jaguar is a highly known animal with notable affiliation in the Pre Columbian
Mesoamerican societies and belief systems. All major Mesoamerican cultures proudly presented
a jaguar god. Jaguars are known for their power and aggressive strength. They are great hunters
and one of the big cats that can tolerate water. Most information that is known about Mayan
culture and Mesoamerican societies comes from the countless and scrupulous findings on stone
monuments, murals, documents, adorned vases, and conventional sources, where we can
survey that the Maya carried out religious exercises with most of these objects. This is evident of
the Mayan jaguar lidded vessel from the Fresno Art Museum. Vessels are vases that were used
not for just funerary purposes, but also for rituals, offerings, and a plethora of other daily
activities. Other important details about jaguar symbolism in Mesoamerican cultures include the
fact that the word for jaguar, bahlam, appears in many of the names of Mayan kings than any
other animals. This is not surprising since the jaguar is the mighty emperor of crafty force.
Andrea Stone and Marc Zender state in their book, Reading Maya Art: A Hieroglyphic Guide to
Ancient Maya Paintings and Sculptures, that, The jaguars ferocity made it an ideal insignia of
warriors who wore jaguar parts to wear it like a badge of honor, whether it was the head, skin, tail,

The Benefits Of Peaceful Protest
Peacefully protesting to show support of a cause is not harmful to society. In the past, it has been a
technique simply to show you feel that your situation, a law or a proposition is not justified, in your
eyes. Protesting in that way does not damage society, however protests too often escalate to anger
and violence, diminishing the validity of the cause being demonstrated.
Peaceful protest can be an effective and beneficial way to make a point about how many in a
population feel strongly about an issue, yet many protests do not go as intended. The idea is to
calmly make your opinion known, to get noticed and to demonstrate the sheer mass of opposition
to a particular topic. Peaceful protest alone is not harmful, it is simply a group of people ... Show

Violent protest is divisive it turns citizens away from seeing reason in your stance, costs taxpayers
money for police protection and control and drives people strongly to one side or the other of the
issues protested. The reason that protests are often seen as dangerous is because they can turn sour
as the result of people using this power and ability to demonstrate as a reason to injure and destroy,
often without any connection to the original protested topic. Protesters have been known to break
shop windows, throw bricks at cars and even injure or kill one another in extreme situations.
Peacekeepers attempting to protect the citizens and prevent escalation are often vilified and
presented as brutalizing peaceful protesters.

Essay about Determining Assessable Income
Introduction.
Individuals thrive off producing income in order to meet their day to day needs and wants. Tax is
imposed on these income producing activities to provide the government revenue. This involves
identifying the various ranges of assessable income. The legal question which must be addressed is
any of the income that was earned by these individuals assessable income under the Australian
income tax assessment act? To answer this question, we must determine if a nexus exists between
Australia and the person(s) being taxed by applying the concepts of Residency, Source and
Derivation.

Residency is important because it is the basis as to how the government will tax individuals.

the Cold War, been widely regarded as the two countries most likely to become involved in a nuclear

very deep seated. The long and contested border, frequent armed conflict and mutual distrust result
in an inherently unstable situation between the two nuclear armed rivals. This study will

Cultural Difference Argument Is Not A Sound One
In this paper I will discuss Cultural Relativism and argue that the cultural difference argument is
not a sound one, because its premise does not prove or disprove its conclusion. Further, I will use
this to prove that morals can be objectively true and do not have to change on a culture to culture
basis. Cultural Relativismtheorizes the nature of moralityand whether moral truths are correct even
if they are not agreed on across all cultures. The outline of the Cultural Differences Argument is that
we argue from facts about the differences between cultural outlooks and then we conclude
something about the status of morality from this argument . Overall each of these moral arguments

This argument claims that we are not allowed to condemn another culture just because it is
different from our own. While it is an interesting idea to be tolerant and accepting of all choices
from other cultures, it is just not plausible. It is an acceptance which leads to no growth in
society and results in the inability to also criticize the negative aspects of a society. For example,
if we agreed that each culture has the right to believe and do as they please without outside
interference, then we would not be able to criticize slavery or anti semitism because they are just
the thoughts of that culture. If we were unable to criticize these fundamentally wrong ideas then
there would be no growth in culture since we would be unable to disconnect our society from
morally incorrect thoughts and move them on to better ideas. This thought that one s culture is
always correct in its opinions not only makes it impossible for one to criticize another culture, but
it also makes it impossible for one to criticize their own

Beautiful people use their looks to gain better job prospects however the argument is, is it really
on their attractiveness, weather it being their looks or how they come across. There is an old
saying that no matter what people look like its how a person presents them self s, this however
shows how peoples perception is caused by the Halo effect, this is a cognitive bias of ones
impression on that person. This bias can influences the individual s behaviour and cause judgments
taken apron that person. Also known as the physical attractivenessstereotype and the what is
beautiful is good . The halo effect refers to how people are rated by their attractiveness of
individuals more for their personality and their traits and characteristics. The Halo effect is also
used to describe an impression of a person and see s their likeable personality, and their success,
which is caused by creating a biased judgment therefor, the effect can have a influence how
people are treated. The halo effect as a huge impact on job applicants as the employer is looking
at their appearance and weather there attractiveness would fit in before they look at their

The most important aspect of college is your academics. Getting straight A s or relative to that
will get you far in life. Adding academic studies with binge drinking can give you an unpleasant
surprise. After a wild night of drinking and partying leaves you with a hangover the next day. Of
all college students 32 44% reporting binge drinking. Not surprisingly, 60 75% of college
students experience at least one hangover a year, 27% report one to two hangovers and 34%

college students have multiple hangovers which indicates that they are probably the binge drinkers.
With all this information we can conclude that binge drinking does have an affect on college
students academic levels, but then again it depends on the student itself. It also depends how many
drinks the student has consumed, how much alcohol the body can obtain until drunk, and how well
the student functions after the hangover. We do not conclude, however, that excessive drinking is
not a risk factor for academic problems. It is possible that a higher alcohol dose would have
affected next day academic test scores. (Howland,

The Sexual Orientation Of Parents
The sexual orientation of parents, once having a child, does not negatively affect the
development of their children. In order to first be a parent, one must obtain a child. However, in
Florida, gay foster parents were not allowed to adopt the children they fostered due to the Gay
Adoption Ban (Goldberg). Homosexuals were not legally able to adopt a child at all until the
forty year old ban was lifted July, 2015 by Governor Rick Scott (Associated Press). Prior to the
lifting of the gay adoption ban, female same sex couples could build their families via DI, as
opposed to male couples, whose reproductive options were more limited... surrogacy is very
expensive (Goldberg 117). Adoption is usually a first option for gay couples due to the inability
to reproduce through traditional means. The second, and much more expensive options are
insemination for women, and surrogacy for men. Without the option of adoption, many gay
couples are not able to have the right to raise a child. Furthermore, the difficulties homosexual
couples have to acquire a child make it almost impossible to exercise that right. However, once
having a child, he or she is cared for just as any other heterosexual couple would care for a child.
The development of children raised by homosexual couples is not significantly different from that
raised by heterosexual couples. Children whose parents are gay or lesbian have no more problems

Hans Albert Einstein And The Life Of Albert Einstein
Albert Einstein was born to secular Jewish family in Ulm, Germany on March 14, 1879. Einstein is
best known for the development of the theory of relativity, a major structure of physics. However,
before he became this revered figure in science, Einstein worked at a patent office in Bern,
Switzerland where he developed his first scientific theories. Much of his work at the patent office
presented questions about transmission of electric signals and electrical mechanical
synchronization of time, two technical problems that eventually led Einstein to his revolutionary
conclusions about the nature of light and the fundamental connection between space and time.
While attending college at the Swiss Federal Polytechnic, Einstein met Mileva Maric, with whom
he developed a close relationship with. In January 1903, Einstein married Maric, and they later had

Mass communication may be interpreted differently to a number of people. Many relate the
method to the shear number of people engaging in the type of communication, the mass of the
people or size of the audience. However others may focus of the second part of the word,
communication and think of mass communication in the traditional sense that it was based of the
idea of exchange (Chafee Metzger, 2001, pp. 355 356). Until recently, mass communication was
the idea of connecting with a large audience and a vast demographic, however that no longer
applies due to the arrival of media channels. The number of radio and television channels has

Empty Nest Syndrome Analysis
I chose the link attached because the article is based on a study on parental health and well being in
relation to empty nest transition. When I read the article all that I can think of is my mother how
she felt when I left home. The study touches quite a bit of everything related to empty nest
syndrome: cultural differences, the type of relationship between parentand child, parents who
works vice staying at home mom (or dad) and off time launches and violation of social schedule
expectations (Mitchell Lovegreen, 2006). It would give a different perspective on my classmates
on probable health issues on parents when a child leaves home.
In 1983 I really did not have any thought on how my mother must have felt when I left home. I
was happy, I found myself a job away from home. By reading the chapter and the link that I have
attached on this subject, it gave me a different perspective on how my mother must have felt when
I left home and why she became very depressed. Unknown to me back then, she was grieving and
was unable to cope with her loneliness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My decision to leave home was very abrupt and I did not have a care in the world on what I was
leaving behind. I was determined that it was time for me to leave the nest and experience life.
Settersten, (2003B) wrote that thus, expectations and meanings about the timing of, and reasons
for, home leaving are important factors in shaping how parents respond to their children s leaving
home. The failure to comply or cope effectively with these normative demands may produce
negative social and psychological outcomes for young adults as well for their parents (Mitchell

Utopia Vs Dystopian Society
As time goes on, attempts at a utopian society have failed and that means that not only have
utopias been created but that dystopias have arrised. Each one is set and planned to be a utopia
that only ends up taking another course and turning into a dystopian society. Utopia simply means
an ideal place or state , where as a dystopiais the opposite ( utopia). Dystopias is a society
characterized by humanmisery, as squalor, oppression, disease, and overcrowding ( dystopia ).
Utopias usually end up becoming dystopias because everyone has their own vision of what they
want their perfect place to be. Somebody s perfect form of life is different than another person s

They believe that their life is fine and there is nothing that they should worry about in Oceania.
A little farther into the book Orwell mentions, If you want to keep a secret, you must also hide it
from yourself (Orwell). This tells us that even if the citizens of Oceania even tried to think of a
way to rebel against Big Brother it would not work. By the time they finished their plan they
would execute in order to take back control of their society the Thought Police would have already
caught them and they would be in prison or a camp for thought crime. The people are under so
much control that they think it would be better off if they don t rebel. They care content and
perfectly fine with the way they live because they know if they do rebel then it won t turn out very
well. We see that the government controls them with slogans and doublespeak. The proles are
content with life and that s how Big Brother wants it to be. If they stay content and ignorant then
the government already has full control over them and they are certain that everything is amazing.
Oceania depicts traits of a dystopia by keeping constant surveillance on their citizens and
destroying free thought. Winston informs us, It was terribly dangerous to let your thoughts wander
when you were in any public place or within range of a telescreen. The smallest thing could give
you away. A nervous tic, an unconscious look of

1870 Education Case Study
To provide education nationwide, the British government had to ensure that there would be a
school available for each child in Great Britain. Throughout Great Britain, many children in the
working class were not receiving an education either because there was no school where they lived,
or they simply could not afford it. In response to this, in 1870 William Forster got Parliament to
pass the 1870 Elementary EducationAct. This act required every schooldistrict to have adequate
public schools for children aged 5 to 13 and established school boards in every district to oversee
and manage these schools for the poor. The school boards, each made of roughly 55 members,
would pay for new schools out of the local fund, pay the cost for a child

Unequal Rights For Women And Gender Inequality
Unequal rights for women and gender inequality have been a plague across European society since
the dawn of time. It was not until the late eighteenth century that women s rights activists, such as
Mary Wollstonecraft, began to take action against this inequality. Through the perseverance of these
activists, major reforms for equality began to arise during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries,
both being time periods that marked a profound era for women and the progression of women s
rights. During this time women s rights expanded greatly into the social, economic, and political
fields of society. Women finally started to become a man s equal rather than his lesser and the
patriarchal society that once had dominated western civilization had started to diminish. During
revolutionary times like these, people often turned towards art to exemplify and portray their
society. Art can be an influential force to help illustrate what changes are occurring in one s society,
or what changes need to occur. The progression of women s rights throughout the nineteenth and
twentieth century was reflected throughout society by works of art such as Original Costumes for
the Velocipede Race in Bordeaux, The Greatest Mother in the World, and France: Women s Fashion
in 1927. During the late nineteenth and early twentieth century the second industrial revolution was
underway which allowed for the mass production of various items, such as the bicycle. Mass
production permitted items like the

Process Of Buying A Home
Prepare Before Purchasing
Excitement abounds, for the day has come for you to fulfill your dream of owning your own
home! This is a wonderful time but it can also be a very stressful time in your life. It s easy to get
overwhelmed and confused in the tumultuous sea of paperwork, hidden details, and legalese that is
the process of buying a home. Fortunately, there are professionals to help you through this process,
but here s a quick and dirty guide to getting yourself ready for buying a home.
First and foremost, take your time. A lot of home buyers will spot a home they like and feel like
they have to make an offer right away. Do not fall into this trap! This is a major, life changing
decision and probably the biggest financial investment you ll ever make in your entire life. Sit
down, lean back, relax, and take your time. Shop around, look at other houses, look at mortgages
and homeowner s insurance. Never make any hasty decision when it comes to real estate. ... Show

later, and what things you really don t need. Buying a single family home, you ll need to
remember to leave a little room to grow to accommodate the growing family. If you have or want
pets, particularly a dog, consider a fenced in yard. If you have a cat, a yard s not so important,
unless it s something you want for yourself. Write up a list and really get into the nitty gritty of
what you really need your home to have, not just right now, but in five years or

Stars Always Shining Summary
As one reaches adulthood, one reaches a level of sense of self identity and understanding of their
status in society that one will come into agreement with. In Stars Always Shining, the author Rick
Rivera explores the idea of belonging in society through the use of the characters and the influences
of the environment. The main character, Placido along with his assisting characters, Michelle and
Salvador, struggle with finding their place amongst society along with their relationships amongst
each other and their bosses, Jacqueline and Mickey. In the beginning, we are shown how
confrontational Mitchell, or Mitch, and Jacqueline are as they first get to know each other.
Although Mitch tries to impress the owners with her vast knowledge she comes off as knowing
more than the owners.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Pg 182) We can see the first revelation this interview yielded was that Jacqueline did not like
Michelle s confidence. (Pg 195) Nevertheless, Mitch and Placido, or Place, being mere
employees seeking for work, are needed to be reminded by Jacqueline and Mickey constantly
throughout the story, that they, being the owners of the ranch and the ones investing into
StarRidge Ranch, are the ultimate decision makers. As we move along in the plot, we verge on
the realizations of the internal struggles many of the characters are dealing with to figure out
where they belong in their relationships and with society around them. Mitch attempts to leave
the world of law, she first believed she wanted, but struggles to get back to the world she grew
up with, caring for the animals and the earth. Place comes to realize that he doesn t know if he
fits in society as a Chicano American or a Mexican. He grew up a field worker with his family,
but lost that part of his life and culture as he grew up and studied in college. He isn t able to
express himself freely as an American to Jacqueline and Mickey but also has troubles
understanding much of what Salvador has to say about the Mexican life and

part of an everyday battles that Peoples Temple were prepared to battle (History Channel)
inequality was one of the main goals of Peoples Temple but when the group evolved into what it
became into, people stayed because they still wanted to be a part of something that was bigger then
them in pursuit of a greater cause. He had marched with Martin Luther King and once believed that
the Peoples Templewould fulfill his dream of integration and racial equality.(The belief was
trampled when he realize that Jones rarely allowed blacks to assume positions of authority within
the temple.) (Harary) Jim Joneshad so many people fooled into believing that his cult was actually
a movement for good and positivity. When in reality those who followed Jim Jones soon
realized that his true nature towards other beliefs were smaller and less significant compared to
his own. If you did it selfishly, by yourself, you d revert 5,000 years to the Stone Age. But killing
yourself for and with the father, that would be a glorious protest against repression. (Harary)
being a part of a protest against repression through suicide and hurting others was a motive to
leave yet only few stood up and left the madness of what Peoples Temple was becoming.
Coming from diverse backgrounds with personal problems and multiple unfortunate circumstances

Sebastian Bach Biography
Johann Sebastian Bach once said, The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the
glory of God and the refreshment of the soul. It is known that Bach is classified as a musical genius

discovered during his early childhood brought him much success throughout the Baroque Era
allowing him to write over one thousand compositions. An exploration of his youth, his trials and
struggles, and writing techniques will help outsiders gain a better understanding of the magnificent
mind of J.S. Bach. On March 21, 1685, the legendary Johann Sebastian Bachwas born in Eisenach,

such an important influence on the younger generation it is important for all of this information to

Semour (2012) explains it as planned and deliberate interactions with a client. It is a multifaceted approach involving the building of rapport to establish the relationship with the client, being sensitive to a clients personal experiences and ensuring the therapist practices remain client centred (Semour, 2012). The therapist needs to understand the clients story and show personal sensitivity, respect and trust of the clients own experiences. The beta cells are cells that produce insulin for the entire body. The body stops making insulin, causing people to become insulin dependent. An insulin dependent person would use insulin injections or an insulin pump ordinarily to manage their sugar levels. Type two diabetes is different. The body of a type two diabetic no longer responds to the body made insulin. Beta cells destroy themselves from the overproduction of insulin because the cells themselves try to compensate for the deficiency of insulin. Type two is either treated without medications like exercise and diet or with insulin tablets. • 4. From Working Poor For Elite Scholar Essay 4 SAMPLE GRADUATE SCHOOL ESSAYS #1. From Working Poor to Elite Scholar One of the proudest accomplishments of my life was earning my college degree, despite the fact that my early adulthood pointed in the opposite direction, beginning with my marriage at the age of 19. Throughout the 1990s I lived as one of the working poor, someone who slipped through the cracks of supposedly historic prosperity. By the age of 25 I was divorced and frustrated with menial, low paying jobs: clerk, receptionist, and housecleaner. There is nothing like scrubbing someone else s toilet to inspire one with determination toward obtaining an education. Because of my absolute commitment toward earning my degree, I got a flexible shift at a retail warehouse which enabled me to acquire my degree while supporting myself financially. Enrolled at the local community college, I experienced a different world opening up to me; excited by a new encouraging environment, I excelled academically. I learned that if I tried hard, I could succeed; if I wanted something badly enough, I possessed the ability to take advantage of these opportunities. I worked a minimum 35 hour workweek for five years to put myself through school without succumbing to the temptation of a student loan. I paid tuition up front with the money I earned. It was the example of my mother, a Puerto Rican immigrant working diligently to provide for her family, who instilled a work ethic into me that has stood me in good stead. With a ... • 5. Federal Income Tax Vs. Flat Tax There has always been a large amount of discussion on the topic of the federal income tax. Specifically, the discussions have revolved around how exactly the people should be taxed. There are several ways in which tax rates can be determined, and all of them have some form of a strong argument behind them. The flat taxis the best option as, by nature, it is the most fair. Tax rates are measured by percentages, and when taxes are collected by percentages, the wealthy are already paying more money than the poor. For example, if a flat tax rate of 20% is in place, and one person has an annual income of $150,000 while another person has an annual income of $40,000. It is also proven that the lower class, specifically the lowest quintile in the U.S., spends a higher percentage of their income on alcohol and tobacco than the upper classes. This is most likely due to the fact that the poorer people actually purchase more alcohol and tobacco than the average person in the higher classes. The cause of this is most probably early formations of addictions, which quite possibly ruined careers. People who fall under this category most likely became addicted to alcohol and/or tobacco early on in their lives, which put a financial strain on them earlier on in their careers, or even before their careers even started, therefore hindering their ability to move up in their jobs or find better ... • 8. Impact Of Digital Technology On Children Lunar Singsomphone English 105 014 Fall 2017 The Impact of Digital Technology on Today s Children In a world dominated by technology, it is appropriate for adults to have concerns about the impact it is having on children. While most of this concern does stem from the experiences of their own childhood when there was less technology, more play time outside, and life was just simply much easier, the fact of the matter is that the children today and the future generations to come are going to grow up in a technological realm. Today, children as young as four years old, are regularly using digital technology on multiple different platforms such as the Internet, mobile devices, and gaming consoles. A 2013 Nielsen Connected Devices report found that in households that have a tablet and/or computer and with children under 12 years of age, 70% of the children used the tablet; 70% of those children used it for entertainment purposes, and 57% used the tablet for educational purposes. The report, of course, raises the obvious question of rather or not early exposure of digital technology can have negative effects on child development especially regarding their brains. In truth, there is no easy answer because like most things in life, there are both good and bad attributes to it and the exact same thing can be applied in this situation. For instance, while technology can be used for positive educational purposes, there are also serious psychological concerns. The digital technology ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Edward Bloor s novel, Tangerine, Antoine Thomas and Luis Cruz fit as the mythological archetype of the mentor. Antoine and Luis are mentors to Paul, who is the hero, because they are both positive figures, who motivate Paul. For instance, when Paul was over at Tino s house working on the science project, he was told that Luis used to play soccer, too. Luis was also handicapped so he didn t understand how. Tino then told Paul that Luis had to be the goalie. Paul thought Tino was trying to make fun of him, but he wasn t. The text states, I looked at Tino to see if he was mocking me. He wasn t. He was just making conversation (Bloor 175). In other words, Paul really thought that Tino was making fun of him. This conversation helped Paul realize that he could still play soccer with his loss of eyesight if Luis can play with a knee injury. The word mocking adds a negative tone to this quote, but it also helps show how this helps Paul. In addition to Luis, Antoine helps motivate Paul, too. • 22. Analysis Of Consider The Lobster Consideration: thoughtful of the rights and feelings of others How do you consider the lobster? David Foster Wallace wrote the essay Consider the Lobster. After the reading, the essay for the first time the thoughts that went through my head consisted of how the lobsters were treated and what Wallace thought of the lobsters. The lobsters are chosen out of usually a pot or a giant tank and then boiled to death. They are placed into a pot of boiling hot water and the saying that the lobsters are screaming in the pot comes to be true. Some people find it disturbing to listen to the sound while others cover the pot and not let it bother them. Also, from the first reading I thought that Wallace was being somewhat hypocritical because I got the idea that it was acceptable for him to eat and coo ketch lobsters but seeing it done in the setting of a restaurant, in a larger quantity makes it worse. Gathering all this information again had made me rethink the essay and look towards the deeper meaning. Wallace committed suicidein 2008 due to mental illness. So, when we consider the lobster does it mean that to be considerate of it? Another point I came to was about was mental illness and how in 2008 Wallace committed suicide. When lobsters are chosen and boiled to eat, those people are sending them to their grave . So, what does being considerate consist of when discussing a lobster, a dead body and the food we are about to eat? Jessica Mitford wrote the essay The Story of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Instead, we need to face our problems straight on, because the feeling of conquering a challenge gives us an unexplainable feeling of success. Through the character Mrs. Taylor, Author Hugh Garner depicts how facing hardships head on, leads to the feeling of accomplishment in his story, A Trip For Mrs. Taylor . Based on the story and a personal example it s evident that when an individual faces adversity, they strive to overcome challenges which leads to the rush of success. All major Mesoamerican cultures proudly presented a jaguar god. Jaguars are known for their power and aggressive strength. They are great hunters and one of the big cats that can tolerate water. Most information that is known about Mayan culture and Mesoamerican societies comes from the countless and scrupulous findings on stone monuments, murals, documents, adorned vases, and conventional sources, where we can survey that the Maya carried out religious exercises with most of these objects. This is evident of the Mayan jaguar lidded vessel from the Fresno Art Museum. Vessels are vases that were used not for just funerary purposes, but also for rituals, offerings, and a plethora of other daily activities. Other important details about jaguar symbolism in Mesoamerican cultures include the fact that the word for jaguar, bahlam, appears in many of the names of Mayan kings than any other animals. This is not surprising since the jaguar is the mighty emperor of crafty force. Andrea Stone and Marc Zender state in their book, Reading Maya Art: A Hieroglyphic Guide to Ancient Maya Paintings and Sculptures, that, The jaguars ferocity made it an ideal insignia of warriors who wore jaguar parts to wear it like a badge of honor, whether it was the head, skin, tail, or paws. Einstein is best known for the development of the theory of relativity, a major structure of physics. However, before he became this revered figure in science, Einstein worked at a patent office in Bern, Switzerland where he developed his first scientific theories. Much of his work at the patent office presented questions about transmission of electric signals and electrical mechanical synchronization of time, two technical problems that eventually led Einstein to his revolutionary conclusions about the nature of light and the fundamental connection between space and time. While attending college at the Swiss Federal Polytechnic, Einstein met Mileva Maric, with whom he developed a close relationship with. • 42. The Mass Of Mass Communication Essay Modern life has become accustomed to the use and influence of mass communication. The telegraph, gramophone, radio transmission, and moving images such as television are some of the earliest forms of mass communication that became entangled with various capitalist government regulations and an interpersonal mass audience. In the 1980 s a second mediarevolution began to emerge with the technological advancements of digital convergence which is the ability to access a range of multimedia content across a number media platforms with a number of devices. This essay will discuss whether due to these advancements, is it time the idea of mass communication needs to be re evaluated, and with the increasing using of multifunctional communication tools, whether or not the mass communication era has ended. Mass communication may be interpreted differently to a number of people. Many relate the method to the shear number of people engaging in the type of communication, the mass of the people or size of the audience. However others may focus of the second part of the word, communication and think of mass communication in the traditional sense that it was based of the idea of exchange (Chafee Metzger, 2001, pp. 355 356). Until recently, mass communication was the idea of connecting with a large audience and a vast demographic, however that no longer applies due to the arrival of media channels. The number of radio and television channels has dramatically risen along with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Empty Nest Syndrome Analysis I chose the link attached because the article is based on a study on parental health and well being in relation to empty nest transition. When I read the article all that I can think of is my mother how she felt when I left home. The study touches quite a bit of everything related to empty nest syndrome: cultural differences, the type of relationship between parentand child, parents who works vice staying at home mom (or dad) and off time launches and violation of social schedule expectations (Mitchell Lovegreen, 2006). It would give a different perspective on my classmates on probable health issues on parents when a child leaves home. In 1983 I really did not have any thought on how my mother must have felt when I left home. I was happy, I found myself a job away from home. By reading the chapter and the link that I have attached on this subject, it gave me a different perspective on how my mother must have felt when I left home and why she became very depressed. My decision to leave home was very abrupt and I did not have a care in the world on what I was leaving behind. I was determined that it was time for me to leave the nest and experience life. The failure to comply or cope effectively with these normative demands may produce negative social and psychological outcomes for young adults as well for their parents (Mitchell Lovegreen, ... Throughout Great Britain, many children in the working class were not receiving an education either because there was no school where they lived, or they simply could not afford it. In response to this, in 1870 William Forster got Parliament to pass the 1870 Elementary EducationAct. This act required every schooldistrict to have adequate public schools for children aged 5 to 13 and established school boards in every district to oversee and manage these schools for the poor. The school boards, each made of roughly 55 members, would pay for new schools out of the local fund, pay the cost for a child ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Unequal Rights For Women And Gender Inequality Unequal rights for women and gender inequality have been a plague across European society since the dawn of time. It was not until the late eighteenth century that women s rights activists, such as Mary Wollstonecraft, began to take action against this inequality. Through the perseverance of these activists, major reforms for equality began to arise during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, both being time periods that marked a profound era for women and the progression of women s rights. During this time women s rights expanded greatly into the social, economic, and political fields of society. Women finally started to become a man s equal rather than his lesser and the patriarchal society that once had dominated western civilization had started to diminish. During revolutionary times like these, people often turned towards art to exemplify and portray their society. Art can be an influential force to help illustrate what changes are occurring in one s society, or what changes need to occur. The progression of women s rights throughout the nineteenth and twentieth century was reflected throughout society by works of art such as Original Costumes for the Velocipede Race in Bordeaux, The Greatest Mother in the World, and France: Women s Fashion in 1927. During the late nineteenth and early twentieth century the second industrial revolution was underway which allowed for the mass production of various items, such as the bicycle.
