What is Research Design?
Generally ‘Research Design’ means the preparation of the
design of the research project. But the definition of
Research Design is
“A research design is the arrangement of conditions for
collection and analysis of data in a manner that aims to
combine relevance to the research purpose with
economy in procedure”
Need for Research Design
• It reduces inaccuracy;
• Helps to get maximum efficiency and reliability;
• Eliminates bias and marginal errors;
• Minimizes wastage of time;
• Helpful for collecting research materials;
• Helpful for testing of hypothesis;
• Guides the research in the right direction.
Features of a good Design
1. The means of obtaining information;
2. The availability and skills of the researcher;
3. The objective of the problem to be studied;
4. The nature of the problem to be studied; and
5. The availability of time and money for the research work.
Planning of Research
So, we have an idea of what we want to research, which
is one of the first and biggest hurdles to get over. Now, we
have to figure out how to research what we have thought
up. This lesson will explore the decision process on how to
decide the research design.
Procedures
The first step in research is figuring out the steps to complete what
we're doing. This is called the procedures, which are a written plan
of what will happen to participants, in the sequential order of how
it will occur. Like a recipe.
We have to keep in mind, each research idea is unique.
Participants
Now that we know how we're going to collect our data, we have to
consider whom we will be studying. A participant is an individual
who takes part in a study.
Participants are a lot like the ingredients that we need to bake
something.
Materials
Materials are any script survey or any other item in the process of
collecting data. This can be thing like paper and pencil surveys,
computer program to contact participants or devices used in the
experiments.
The tools to get finished the project.
Conclusion
And finally we can say that a Research Design is needed as
the framework or blueprint of a research project. It details
the procedures necessary for obtaining the information
needed to structure or solve research problems. In simple
words it is the general plan of how we will go about our
research.
Thank you
