The Renaissance was a period between 1300-1600 that saw the rebirth of ideas and values from ancient Greece and Rome. Medieval ideas were rejected in favor of embracing classical traditions, especially in art, science, and literature. Renaissance art focused on realistic depictions of everyday life and the human body using techniques like perspective, light and shadow, inspired by classical Greek and Roman models. Science during the Renaissance was characterized by careful observation of the natural world and a willingness to question accepted beliefs. Literature drew from Greek and Roman influences and humanist ideas that emphasized human potential and achievements in the present. The Renaissance began in Italy and later spread throughout Europe, taking on local characteristics as it reached Northern Europe.
